Jaw stiff and sore

Cheek muscles still "swollen" after 10 months

2024.05.21 22:26 Assmodean Cheek muscles still "swollen" after 10 months

Hi everybody, I was wondering if anybody had a similar experience. All 4 wisdom teeth were removed last year and especially my lower right extraction has been really slow to heal. It has been 10 months and the symptoms have been unchanged for most of this time.
The muscles inside of the cheek (one side only) and towards the back of the jaw (pterygoid muscles, I think) feel swollen and I can feel that they are hard and protrude further into the mouth than the other side. It is not overly painful but it is annoying and slightly sore all the time. No real trismus but I can't open it quite as wide as the other side of my jaw. There is a hard "bump" where the wisdom tooth used to be, which is also not the case on the other side.
I was just at the surgeon who did the extractions and had an...interesting experience where he claimed this is completely unrelated to the extraction. Supposedly, I grind my teeth and that is the reason (which he never mentioned before and my regular dentist denies is the case. I never had any problems like that before and it appeared directly after the extraction) As you can imagine, I don't really believe him.
I have an appointment with a different surgeon in 3 weeks but wanted to ask if anybody knows what it could be.

I hate my teeth. Need advice.
I've been to two orthos now who have advised against invisalign and said I should pursue jaw surgery via our health care system (NHS). Trouble is the waiting list can be years long. I hate the look of my teeth, they're worn down from my misaligned bite, and it's now causing gum visible gum recession. I'm unsure what to do as I don't want my gums getting worse, in all honesty I'm rather insecure about my teeth. The gum is thinning on the tooth pointed out and is getting sore. Any advice?

Am I growing a second wisdom tooth in the same spot?
My lower right jaw has been a little sore for a few hours. I tried to inspect and I can see one additional spike at the back of my wisdom tooth. Am I growing my 4th molar? I drink and smoke occasionally.

2024.05.21 21:57 notoriouspig95 Tongue/Speech Update

29M. Posted here a couple times in the last few weeks. Current symptoms for the past 4 weeks.
• Tongue feels stiff at the base. Burning sensation at the tip of my tongue sometimes. I swear I’m slurring or on the verge of slurring, but no one has said anything. I focus on it all day long. I’m tongue thrusting I think. I find myself pushing on the back of my teeth. I drink/eat/swallow just fine so that’s helpful.
• Twitching in my calves, thighs, quads and biceps at rest.
• Shoulders/biceps seem to be sore quickly when I use them.
• Tired really quickly, like sleepy tired.
• I had some jaw tightness and pain a couple weeks ago but that went away for the most part.
Not sure if this sub is helping me or hurting me. I’m aware I’m hyperfocused and have some health anxiety going on, probably making it worse by reading on here all the time.
I haven’t gone to my PCP yet, and I don’t plan to right now. I went through a similar episode of body wide twitching and tongue stuff last year about this time, but it went away in about a month. My tongue stuff is different this time. I had twitching in my tongue last year (sounded like pop rocks). This year I haven’t noticed or heard any tongue twitching.
I think this all started when I was getting stressed at work, then I found out I was going to have a heart procedure to repair a PFO that’s scheduled for June, but hard to tell.
Figure this would’ve gone away by now so I’m looking for reassurance from anyone that has had some similar symptoms and how long it lasted for you. Thanks.

2024.05.21 21:02 Intelligent-Yam8298 Tongue Soreness

I had troubles with tongue positioning, because i was pushing into the front teeth and not the roof of the mouth.
Now i tried this strategy from another thread where you tilt your head back, eyes into the sky and then its easier to fully position your tongue as it should be, then i just slowly tilt my head down until my jaw can properly close without breaking the tongue posture.
The issue comes with the part that it feels like there's not enough room for the tongue to actually be there placed like that and it leads to soreness in the back of the tongue.
Is this a matter of needing to just do the movement more often to build up the strength needed or am i not correctly positioning?
For the record, it feels like you were trying to bench press and lock out your arms, but the safety bars from the squat rack are blocking the way and you can't extend anymore, That's about as accurate as i can explain it 😂

2024.05.21 20:34 Plejad BFS Vent

I feel like I could scream and cry, I’m so angry and desperate. I‘m (35 f) having my second BFS episode with twitches, jerks and for three weeks now, I’m having stiff legs and neck and sore muscles. I can’t walk well, it feels weird. I can’t sit on the floor and it’s even more painful to get up. I went to my doctor twice, but since my blood, lungs and heart seemed fine, he sent me off as healthy. He checked my knee and said, he can’t find anything and I should see an orthopedist. I tried to reach one, but I won’t be abled to see one in the next three months. I’m freaking out, cause my big, fancy wedding is in four weeks. I want to be be happy, but instead im sliding in a second episode of bfs and extreme health anxiety. Last time this happened, I had just given birth to my son and this absolutely destroyed month of my life that should have been wonderful, but I was in excruciating fear. I still can’t forgive myself for being this depressed, crazy, anxious person I was then. I don’t want to do this to my boyfriend again. I hate this, I’m scared and I feel so so let down by the medical system and by my f***** body.

Usually individuals who suffer from throat cancer develop cancer in their voice box called larynx and face problems like sore throat, swelling of the neck, and difficulty swallowing. Possibly, the sufferer may note these indications of throat cancer in the beginning, but they might get to know it when the cancer gets more advanced and they face issues with breathing or speaking. However, throat cancer symptoms may differ based on their location in your body, and if the cancerous tumors grow within the voice box, they can make you ineligible to speak. These conditions require an immediate diagnosis, and you must visit a medical expert quickly!
Common Causes
However, the exact cause of throat cancer is not known, but due to the reasons mentioned, an individual might develop this illness:
  • Can develop due to genetic changes in the cells of your throat.
  • Consuming a lot of alcohol and tobacco-based products can possibly let you develop tumors.
  • Getting human papillomavirus infection.
  • Individuals exposed to chemicals like sulfuric acid, mist nickel, etc. in the workplace are at greater risk.
Throat Cancer Signs/Symptoms
Here’s a list of some common signs that a person may face when developing throat cancer:
Voice Changes: If your voice is becominghoarse or husky or you are facing difficulty pronouncing certain sounds or words, then there might be a possibility that you are developing cancer in your larynx.
Difficulty or Pain in Swallowing: The most initial sign that you might come across would be difficulty swallowing, as you might experience burning or pain when chewing and swallowing food.
Chronic Sore Throat: Known as an early warning sign, where cancer can occur in the pharynx, causing pain in your throat, which doesn’t disappear when you swallow.
Weight loss: An unusual weight loss may occur as a common cancer symptom which can be exacerbated by swallowing problems.
Swollen Lymph Nodes Around the Neck: Swollen nodes or enlarged lymph glands around the neck can be a sign your body is developing a cancer illness, especially if it grows slowly.
Other Signs
  • trouble moving your tongue
  • white patches around tongue or mouth lining
  • coughing up blood
  • nosebleeds
  • pain in throat
Stages of Throat Cancer
Throat cancer staging can form an essential part done by your doctor to identify the stage of cancer and to analyze how far the cancer has grown and spread. Usually, these are the stages that your doctor will diagnose:
Stage 0: Denoted by the term carcinoma in situ where the throat will develop cancerous cells.
Stage I: Referred to as an early stage of cancer where the cancer is only two centimeters, limited to the throat.
Stage II: This stage forms where thetumor is usually between two-four centimeters, but yet not spread to the lymph nodes.
Stage III: Here, your throat cancer comes larger than four centimeters, or even spread to nearby lymph nodes.
Stage IV: During this, the cancer is no longer confined to the original site as it might spread to other body areas including your neck, trachea or jaw.

Throat Cancer Diagnosis

Usually the specialists follow the below mentioned methods to diagnose the throat cancer:
Physical Examination: Most initially when you see a doctor, they will usually examine your mouth, throat and neck to find any throat cancer symptom.
Larynx Endoscopy: To look for abnormalities of the throat, the doctors use an endoscope and insert it through the nose to analyze the illness.
Biopsy: The doctors do this to determine if there are cancerous cells present by taking a small sample of cells or tissue to examine using a magnifying glass.
Ultrasound: Ultrasound of the neck is utilized to detect any abnormalities present, which can subsequently be verified using CT or MRI scans.
X-rays: The doctors may opt for chest x-ray to determine the sufferer’s general health and to analyze the spread of lung cancer.
CT Scan: A radiological procedure is performed to confirm and pinpoint the presence of disease or cancer in the neck region, while also assessing any potential lymph nodes. This involves creating detailed cross-sectional images of the targeted structure from various angles.
MRI: Using radio waves and magnets, the test produces detailed images about what’s going on inside your body.
PET scan: The doctors usually inject radioactive material into the body to detect cancer cells. Treatment Options
Mentioned below are the treatment options that the experts suggest:
The order of treatment for throat cancer is especially if it’s involving voice box or adjacent structures is chemotherapy plus radiotherapy . This approach has evolved from the surgery first approach which was used few decades ago but with the principle of organ preservation and to preserve the voice of the patient .
Surgery: Your medical expert will suggest surgery depending upon the location of the cancer and the structures involved ,if erosion of the cartilages seen in the scan then surgery is the choice of treatment The surgery involves laryngectomy plus partial phryngectomy and also reconstruction of the pharynx which connects to the food pipe . However, surgery involves excision of the voice box and loss of voice but with recent development of voice prosthesis ,voice can be generated.
Laser Surgery: Another treatment option, usually opted by the medical experts in the very initial stages if the disease is limited only to the voice box that too partially .
Radiation Therapy: You may get advised by the doctor to undergo radiation therapy which is the primary treatment in some cases as these doses target the cancer cells to eliminate them.
Chemotherapy: To treat certain cancer conditions, chemotherapy may be needed, especially if the tumor is large, or if the cancer has spread into the lymph nodes as this surgery can shrink tumors possibly.
Targeted Therapy: Since this type of treatment reduces the risk of side effects, these drugs target specific cancer cells or proteins that affect the growth of cancer.
Immunotherapy: This new approach boosts the ability of the immune system to protect the body from cancer.
Prevention
  • Avoid consuming tobacco products and say no to smoking.

2024.05.21 20:13 angryvegg Headaches without elastics

So I have had TMJ issues since I was a teenager. I got elastics about 4 weeks ago, and didn’t have any trouble apart from initial discomfort and a sore jaw. Now, however, I have slipped a bit on wearing them so often and will forget to wear them for 2-3 hours sometimes after eating and I’ve noticed I’m having more pain and headaches without them in. Does anyone else experience something like this? I’m assuming it’s just my jaw doing weird shit

2024.05.21 19:18 pausantos__ Movable lump under my right jaw

I (26F) have a grape-sized lump under my right jaw and it moves when touched. I noticed this 2 months ago and it was pea-sized back then, I didnt think much of it as I was also under antibiotics that time due to a carbuncle so most likely a swollen lymph node.
Yesterday I woke up to a pain on the right side of my neck (kinda like when you have a stiff neck) when I look up. Followed by a pain at the end of my tongue near my tonsils, on the right side as well. When I looked down, this is when I noticed that the bump under my right jaw got bigger and now a size of a grape. It doesn't hurt but it moves when I touch it.
What could be the cause of this?
Just to add up: • I also woke up to a very bad cold from allergies yesterday • I'm a heavy smoker of vape • I get out of breath sometimes even at rest • I feel like choked before sleeping, feels like my shirt collar is too tight even though it isn't • I didnt get to finish taking my antibiotics 2 months ago as I ran out of it (I'm poor 🥲)
I’m going to get it checked next week but I just wanna ask and know ahead of time so that I’m ready. I’m worried because this might be something serious.

2024.05.21 18:26 WeeklyFact Recent microdysectomy

Hi all,
Was hoping to hear from others that have had this procedure. I am 1 week post op at the L4,L5 and happy to report no more sciatic pain/tension in my legs. Right now I am not bending, lifting or twisting. Very Very stiff, walking but walking slow and I find myself after a bit of standing getting sore and needing to lay down. Sitting in chairs feels uncomfortable and I find myself wanting to get up after a few minutes. How long was it until you found that you were able to stand and sit normally? Any tips/insight is appreciated

2024.05.21 17:24 Professional_Prune11 Escape From Heavalun Section Three: Doctoral Dread

Whats up my dudes, we are back at it with another chapter for you all. We are getting the swing of things and have another chapter or two to start the main plot fully, we are just getting to know our leads for now. I hope you enjoy
Lets get this bread
-----
The movement from the nightclub to Stitch’s clinic was grueling. Typically lugging a passed-out HVI or some other sod halfway across the city's district would not be a challenge. With his cybernetics, Conor was in decent enough shape and could sprint ten kilometers in full battle rattle without breaking a sweat, but Conor had pushed himself and didn’t need to wax a few Voodal in his way.
Conor had heard that Kurlatra were dense, but his assumptions about how heavy they were came nowhere close to the reality of picking one up.
Whatever this woman's name was, she likely weighed north of eighty kilograms. It was a shock because she was a meter and a half tall at most. For Urka’s sake, Conor only weighed one hundred and fifty kilograms despite being two meters tall and filled to the brim with wires.
He thought a bit about the woman's build and realized why she must weigh so much. She had hips and legs that could crush a man's skull. Along with a pair of tits just big enough that they would overflow from your hands.
Conner was made all the more well aware of those traits as he adjusted her to ensure he would not drop the little lass. Her fatty chest and plump thighs would try to swallow his hip each time he did. No sentient this small had any right being heavier than his entire breacher kit, explosives, anti-rifle armor, and all.
If not for Brakul expecting this rosey scag to be delivered to Stitch’s place, Conor would have lugged her to his safe house, which was far closer. But no, he had another job and order to follow.
The only shining light on this impromptu extraction was that the Voodal did not follow him. He had been worried about that last ganger he had shot; they had only eaten one round through the midchest. At the time, it looked like it might not have been a heart shot, and since he was picking this bimbo up at the time, he did not have a chance to ensure they were put down permanently.
Conor took a deep breath as he rounded the corner into a dirty alleyway, leaving the bustling thoroughfare behind. Thankfully, the residents of Heavalun knew better than to mess with him or anyone else who regularly did mercenary work, especially when they were carrying a body—alive or not.
Those who stopped his type tended not to live long, so he was ignored other than a few passing glances.
After traveling a few meters into the alleyway, Conor stopped and tucked behind a dumpster. His feet squelched in a puddle of rank trash water leaking from the impromptu cover. While Conor was reasonably sure no one had followed him, a quick double-check was always good for his skin.
Conor did not want to bring trouble to Stitch’s place. He did not have the slightest idea where he would find another techy who could synthesize the cocktail of stimulants Stitch made to keep his broken body held together. Pissing the tech head off was not high on his priority list.
Over the next ten minutes, the only thing his thermal vision picked up between him and the main road was a few Zlit rats scurrying atop discarded food. Their fleshy tendrils groped the garbage and pulled it into maws of razor-sharp teeth.
The sight of them sent a shiver down his spine. Those foul little mammals were high on his list of hated creatures, having been bitten by them more than once since he was a kid slinking around the gutters of Heavalun.
Pushing those memories away, Conor traveled deeper and rounded a blind corner. The sounds of the crowd's chatter entirely vanished as he entered the backstreet where Stitch’s clinic was nestled.
The rest of the journey was only a few hundred meters and only required Conor to sidestep some used needles and shit; He also had to kick one homeless bum who tried to grab the girl out of the cover of his jacket. Usually, he would have just shot the piece of hreck shit, but with his hands full, a swift boot to the jaw got the message across.
With the bum limping away, broken jaw clutched in pain, Conor hammered on the metal door; its frame and the neon sign to its side quivered under his brute strength. Then began the worst part of dealing with Stitch, waiting for the asshole to open the door.
Conor waited until ten minutes had passed and received no answer. Then he punched the door harder, his metal hand denting the surface. Several seconds later, a heavily synthesized voice echoed out of the speakers hidden around the area—speakers that Conor had never been able to locate, no matter how fervently he tried.
“What do you want, Conor?” Stitch questioned. “Did you break more of your wiring?”
Conor sighed heavily, knowing Stitch had this entire block wired with multispectrum cameras and could see him a kilometer out. If this were a visit for his wiring, Stitch would know. The man was just being paranoid and wanted Conor to state his business.
“I got a girl I need you to check up on,” Conor said, pushing his jacket slightly open and letting the girl's ref scales shine.
“What another hooker pass out on a bad trip?” Stitch chuckled cruelly. “This is the fourth this month; you are getting soft merc.”
Rolling his eyes, Conor could admit he was softer than most of the other mercenaries and gangsters in the city's neutral sections. Having seen his fair share of how bad this city can be, Conor did his best not to fuck over those who were just down on bad times and were not trying to cause him issues.
Life was arduous enough for them. So he gave back by lugging hookers and junkies to the nearest tech head and paying for their treatment or the closest Zential clinic. The Zentials were more than willing to treat the downtrodden for free, unlike the other medical services in Heavalun—stitch included.
He considered it his way of giving back and maybe finding Urka's good grace. Perhaps the god might forgive him for being a general piece of hreck shit if he continued to until he did. But he would not know until he finally kicked the bucket.
His intervention was a drop of clean water in the ocean of venom in this city. The other locals were more than willing to pick those he aided clean in minutes. They might as well be a swarm of bealit beatles eating carrion with how ravenous they were.
“It ain’t that. Just open the damn door,” Conor growled, punching the door again.
“Hold on, you greased-up cyborg,” Stitch frantically complained, worried that Conor would break his door again.
Conor smirked, glad the strange form of tolerance he and Stitch had built over the years was still strong. At this point, it was their modus operandi. Neither hated the other; no, they respected one another's role in this shithole.
Both toles put them in harm's way and brought them respect and infamy.
However, Conor found the way the denizens of Heavalun treated them funny. If you asked the average COS or GU citizen, who was more brutal: a mercenary with a pension for hyper-violence and little regard for collateral damage—-or a skeletal Itelv doctor who regularly performs life-saving surgery? They would choose Conor ten out of ten times. They did not know Stitch like Conor, Brakul, or most of the people in this city section.
They would tell you the truth of the good doctor.
They would weave you a tale of a greedy, crit-pinching asshole and that Stitch was the type of man who would stitch up for pay but would just as quickly harvest your organs for sale, or Urka forbid he would stick some experimental tech inside you and wait for your inevitable death to retrieve his property.
The door at long last opened with a vile hiss, and a gangly grey-skinned hand forced it open.
Stitch was just about as tall as Conor. But his thin grey limbs made him look one stiff breeze away from taking flight, with only his heavy artificial spider-like legs keeping him firmly on the planet.
Draped over his pencil-thin neck was a once-white apron. After years of use, it was stained with blood, oil, and hydraulic fluid.
“If she ain't one of your precious hookers, put her on the table. I will get my tool ready,” Stitch hissed, jamming his thumb over a shoulder.
“I ain’t selling this one to you either. Girlie got tagged by visage, and I need yah to treat her,” Conor replied, pushing past and laying the blonde on the recovery bed.
“You said she ain’t some hooker,” Stitch complained following, having gotten tired of Conor no longer bringing him fresh meat to sell.
Once Conor turned around and was about to explain the situation, Stitch pressed a bony finger into Conor's chest. “I told you, I'm selling the next one. She is it,”
“Can it doc. She is a client,” Conor replied. “Or are you going to explain to Brakul why you cut her up?”
Stitch clicked his tongue but did not try to move closer. His glassy, verdant eyes pulled Conor and the girl apart as he weighed the pros and cons of allying with Conor and Brakul another time.
“What is in it for me?” Stitch questioned, tapping a finger on a scalpel attached to his tool belt.
Conor sighed, realizing he should have expected this question, but he was not the broker of deals. That was Brakul’s schtick, and he was running late.
“You can take her jewelry and any credsticks you find on her. Alright?” Conor replied, knowing Brakul likely would have made a similar deal.
Stitch nodded and slinked closer to the woman. He lifted the necklace from her chest and carefully examined the jewels with a prudish eye any good businessman should have. After Stitch activated his magnified eyes, his cornea glowed gold, letting him see the atoms of the shiny trinket.
The doctor grinned cruelly, letting his crystalline teeth show proudly. The sight was unsettling and made Conor grip his pistol, fearing the doctor would flip his shit and decide it was not enough payment and try to cut the girl up.
But he did not start to slice her skin open. Instead, he sniggered nearly uncontrollably for a few moments, then spoke. “Yes, yes, yes. This will do just fine,” He sneered.
Conor was unsure what the jewels were, but they must be worth far more than he initially thought. For Urka's sake, Stitch was drooling on the necklace and the passed-out girl's chest.
“Good. So you will take care of her?” Conor questioned, needing to hear an assured answer.
Quickly slipping the jewelry into his pocket, Stitch looked back at Conor, his demeanor having done a complete one-eighty. “Of course, I always have room for paying customers.”
“Oh sweet, Conor, you handled the deal,” Brakul said, having just stepped in through the doors.
Why Brakul was allowed unfettered access to Stitch’s clinic and Conor was not something Conor had wondered for years but had accepted it as something to do with their role in the duo.
“Yeah, and he will watch the client. But we had yet to lay out the finer details,” Conor explained.
“Ah, no issue, I can take it from here,” Brakul replied.

2024.05.21 17:02 Raphiella My symptoms (It's all pointing towards Bruxism)

Just posting in case anyone has all the same symptoms. I've been in distress for about 6 weeks with all of this. Been to see a private ENT, spoken to 3 GPs and none of them have been much help sadly.
My jaw has always cracked/popped without any pain. I started noticing a bit of jaw ache but didn't think much of it.
6 weeks ago I started getting muscle spasms in my ear (fluttering sensarion) and flare up of tinnitus. Been getting a touch of sensitivity (hyperacusis) in my right ear as well. ENT said it was Middle Ear Myoclonus.
However, a few days later I'm getting the most intense neck and shoulder aches/pain I've ever had. I cannot seem to get any relief. I'm getting pain deep inside my ears, around my temples, underneath my ears and all down the sides and back of my neck. Some days I feel light headed, some days are OK. Some days I get an intense pain in one of my jaw joints and my jaw is stiff. Seems to be good days and bad days.
I also started getting more eye floaters this year which I had checked out.
After doom scrolling all my symptoms for weeks and weeks I'm pretty sure I'm clenching my teeth. My GP suggested it and has referred me to another ENT, but it's not for 3 months.
I have a dentist appointment in 2 weeks so I'm going to ask about a custom mouth guard.
I had the worst anxiety of my life at the start of this year, for no reason. It became quite hard to live with and I'm now thinking it's manifested as Bruxism.
Oh what joy... being stiff, aching and having ringing ears every day is utterly shit.
Have tried, or am taking, Magnesium, B12, Kalms, Propranolol and CBD Gummies. Have now bought some heated pads to use on my face on the bad days.
Just sharing incase anyone else needs to know they're not alone with these symptoms.

2024.05.21 16:14 Historical_Nerve_412 Not Fun.

There's been a pretty big burning/hot stiff in my neck along with waking up drenched in sweat, nausea, feeling weak in the arms and legs, chills and headaches. No cough or sore throat. I've been experiencing these symptoms for about 4-5 days. Are these just normal flu symptoms that'll just go away on its own?

2024.05.21 15:43 jeffreyaccount Mouth fills with air the past few months

I'm using nasal pillows with the P10 I believe.
I'm 5-6 years in and it's been great. However the past 4-5 months, I notice as I am falling asleep I'll get a little air bubble in my mouth.
I can just push it out easily, but will get another.
I'd been really good about keeping my mouth closed and if it does open I hear and feel it. But that's when I've been awake. I think if it'd happen while sleeping I'd hear it because it's pretty loud.
Im at 0.3-0.5 most nights. High for me is 1.1.
In my early days I did have a cloth sort of hat with a chin strap. I'm going to start using that again and see if it remedies.
I did do tape for the second half of the night, and got the little bubble a few times falling asleep again.
[Some additional context: I'd had a tremendous amount of mouth dryness all day. I considered an open mouth at night caused it—but tried stopping Famotidine that helped with acid reflux and eczema, gargling with a non alcohol mouth rinse, as well as stopping singing (and not yelling or screaming to warm up.) And my mouth dryness is a lot less, and no soreness in my throat. I also laid off meat in general and found my acid reflux and my eczema are almost in remission.]
I don't plan on using a face mask, but just wondering how that bubble now is coming up in my mouth. I have significantly relaxed my jaw over time, so I assume something like my tongue position is now letting air in since I relaxed so much more.
Anyway, I'm wondering 'why' this happens, what from a simply physical pov (like something my tongue may be doing) and have remedies of tape and the hat/strap thing—but if others have more ideas.
Besides that, I'm really jamming on sleep this past year. I fall asleep within a minute or two, and usually just get up once per night, hitting 8 hours almost exactly.

2024.05.21 14:53 moviegal828 Is this a flare up?

Quick rundown is that I’m an HLAB27+ 32yo female with family history of AS (dad and grandfather). Various symptoms for about 17 years but only recently saw a rheumy who is “highly suspicious” that I have AS but no official diagnosis yet. MRI did show some edema and inflammation in left SI joint but it was fairly minimal so not a slam dunk for diagnosis. Next step is trying a biologic (Humira) as diagnostic tool and pray it helps. Feels worth saying that I have an active lifestyle and exercise / eat well and drink minimally. I do have a stressful job as a junior executive at a movie studio but I manage the stress okay for the most part.
I’ve had increasingly bad flare up type experiences but without the official diagnosis I’m curious if this does indeed sound like an AS flare up to you all.
When I have multiple demanding days in a row - in this case it was flying from NY to Florida May 11-14 for a trip to Disney World, flying NY to LA May 16 for multiple 12 hour work days with lots of work socializing, and a day at Disneyland with my best friend on May 19 before flying back to NY on May 20 - I am absolutely physically wrecked after. On my flight back yesterday I cried almost the whole time. Everything hurts but the worst is my neck/jaw/face that is absolutely unbearable. Ears feel full and hurt, likely from the TMJ. Headaches all over. Low back and mid back also deeply aching and tight. Wrists and ankles hurt as well. IBS flares. Super stiff all around. And not dizziness but just feeling like I’m in a total blurry fog. If I were to describe it without knowing anything about AS, I would say it just feels like my whole body swells up with anger and everything hurts so much. I slept 10 hours last night and only feel worse. Honestly feeling like this makes me want to die in the moment but I know I’ll have good days again.
I typically manage my pain fairly well with exercise and a daily routine that works for me but the last 10 days have thrown me completely off. Sometimes I worry this is just what being run down feels like for anyone but I don’t think so?? If I had the clear diagnosis I’d be like okay this is a flare up, but I wonder what others of you think… does this sound like an AS flare up?

2024.05.21 14:18 TheLegitLeaffff So I had a scary sleep paralysis experience last night.

Im not new to sleep paralysis by any means, its an on going issue I’ve been dealing with for years but this is one of the experiences that stick out. So I was laying down on my back and I heard a woman’s voice ask a question (I can’t remember what was said), it felt like it was right in both of my ears. It scared me but before I could really react, I had no control over my body my mouth stretched open and my body arched it self. After I went into sleep paralysis. I tried to gain control back as I heard some of my family members talking outside my door. I was attempting to call for help but nothing was working. As soon I as was able to come out of sleep paralysis, I felt my that my jaw was sore (it’s still sore and it’s the next morning). I decided to go to bed on my side instead despite still being shaken up, I’m not sure what happened. But going to bed that way allowed me to sleep with no issues. Ive also feel like I’ve seen my sleep paralysis demon a few years ago. I woke up with sleep paralysis and I could barely make out a smiling man’s face in the dark. It was straight out of the Mandela Catalogue. It was the scariest thing. I just want to know if I’m going insane.

2024.05.21 10:59 YmeFandI Try this!!

Friends! 👋👋👋
For all of you going through having to deal with these, I'm sorry. As one who has suffered greatly for years with sores 80-90 % of the time (!), leading to fever, aches in head, jaw, face, neck as well as not being able to work, I had lost hope. Many times. People suggested and recommended but nothing worked.
I am still in a bit of shock and doubt because I'm so used to it always coming back after a little relief. But I've used a toothpaste for some months now and I ran out like two weeks ago. Bit the inside of my lips and then it was lift of. Ended up with around 7-8 painful sores right away. I was reminded how fucking painful it is and how much better I'd been since I started using it. I'm not sure it will work for everyone but I would be selfish if I didn't share this!
This is a link to the website I bought it from:
https://frontierpharm.com/products/chlorine-dioxide-toothpaste-fresh-breath?variant=813634237
It is expensive but lasts about a month. With this and frequent toothbrush change it has changed my life.
Do your own research, I'm not a medical anything.
Good luck to all❤️

2024.05.21 07:44 Remote_Match_6280 28F Swollen tongue

Swollen tongue with cold symptoms
28F, 5’8”, 145lbs. Never smoked, no drinking or drugs.
UCTD (treated as lupus) Selective IGM deficiency. daily medications: plaquenil, Keflex, and adderall.
Hi! I’m having a bit of a panic because my frequent common cold has come with a fun new symptom: swollen, sore tongue.
I catch a cold once a month, maybe every 2 months. And it’s always pretty standard. Sore throat, cough, insanely runny nose, high fever, malaise, headache. Dayquill and 2 days off takes care of me.
I started getting my normal symptoms yesterday morning, and by last night it was full blown. This morning however, I noticed my tongue doesn’t fit in my teeth anymore. Ive trained myself to rest my tongue in my lower jaw because I have an overbite and I don’t want to make it worse. But today my tongue doesn’t fit in either my upper or lower jaw. Also, the sides are very sore, like when you eat too much sour candy. It isn’t causing any difficulty breathing but i literally can’t close my teeth and it’s exacerbated my sore, dry throat.
I’ve been taking dayquill and added in naproxen when the fever stopped declining (highest has been 103.1 and won’t go lower than 101) I took a Zyrtec when it was suggested by the minute clinic that the tongue thing could be an unrelated allergy; but it hasn’t gotten any better.
I tested negative for strep, flu, and Covid.
I had an uncomplicated wisdom tooth removal 4 days ago; and have had no pain, swelling, bleeding, or sign of infection since. But I wanted to add in case that’s relevant.

2024.05.21 06:35 TozTetsu Assaulted

Tonight I was assaulted by another individual. They drove toward me on a dirt bike at approx. 50 km an hour. This is on a trail open to everything but cars. I dodged, he wiped out(narrow gravel trail, he aimed at me, missed, and then couldn't do anything but wipe), he got up and beat me fairly badly. This was just off my backyard. I got away and walked back to my house and called 911. I had gotten the bike's license plate. The police came, took my statement, they then found the individual, called me back, and explained that he had claimed i had jumped from the bushes with a knife and tried to assault him as he rode by, I didn't hear the statement. The police said it's he said, she said, so what can you do. There is a fair amount of physical evidence that would call his story into question. the individual was much larger and I never did anything but back away. I have a very sore jaw, and large welt under my eye. I think he knocked me out. The police say the only mark on him is road rash on his leg from wiping out. If he had hit me or my dog with his bike it would have badly injured or killed us. He drove by us twice almost hitting us the first time, and then coming back and aiming directly for me. He also came back and revved his engine in or near our yard like 'come out' kinda thing after I had called 911 but drove off after about 5 minutes. It happened in my backyard, he knows where I live, I don't know who he is. I have worries. That can't happen to me or anyone else again. I have kids who walk that trail, and he tried to hit me instead of slowing down and giving me time to get off the trail. I'm kinda in shock with the police, they either have a guy trying to run people over, or a guy jumping out of the bushes stabbing people, and instead of arresting us both just in case, they just shrug and drive home.
Should I do anything? When the officer said she wouldn't do anything I asked to speak to the crown who will make the determination. In the morning I'm going out to document all the physical evidence. Advice?

2024.05.21 05:27 cakebytheocean50 what i use for work

what i use for work
my go-to makeup for work
reviewing my makeup products for work as a corpo girly. i sometimes commute too, so these products were tested under the manila heat!
Products used: (Local x Int’l)
BASE 1. Skin Aqua UV Sunscreen - my 2nd tub! switched from belo dewy + tinted bc they caused milia buildup on my jaw 😔 2. Colourette’s First Base (Talisay) - been using this for 3 weeks now! Truly the most lightweight skin tint I’ve tried. (Better than Issy [Honey] and Maybelline [06] — mabigat sila sa katagalan). This one really settles into your skin. Though I find that Issy has more coverage (or i just dont put enough) 3. Saem Concealer (2.25) - 3rd tub! My go-to concealer. I just buy on the 🍊 app. So cheap but the coverage is insane. Lasts the whole day too basta set w powder!
BLUSH 1. Grwm Milktint (Honeydew) - old forma. i keep going back to this. It’s better than blk bc when you diffuse it, the pigment stays on unlike the latter. Lasts pretty long too even on its own. Tagal din maubos lol last year pa ito. 2. Ever Bilena Pillow pop (Dreamy Coral) - this is kinda mid but i just like the shade for my morena skin. It lasts long too 3. Colorpop Born to Blush Palette - the og powder blush. Just wish i had this in a diff shade it feels too peachy on my skin
LIPS 1. BLK CAOP (Reef)- I like this better on the lips. 2. Happy Skin Lip Mallow (Drip) - still the best local lip tint. So lightweight and lasts so long!! Just top it off w another lippie if you dont like reapplying. Not the best shade for my skin kaya inuubos ko lang 3. Maybelline Vinyl Ink (Punchy) - love the gloss! It lasts long too. Not drying naman for me 4. Rom&nd Juicy Tint (Dark Coconut) - not as long lasting as Maybelline, but I like the shade. I use this to retouch at the office 5. Vaseline Petroleum Jelly - the only lip moisturizer i need tbh. Dont use lip balm na, this is enough! I only apply at night 6. Ever Bilena Lip Serum (Latte) - I just use this as a topper. Mlbb shade siya and it’s rlly moisturizing too!
SETTING SPRAY & POWDER 1. Nyx Dewy Matte - Keeps my makeup in place! Also like how dewy it feels. 2. Innisfree No Sebum Mineral - thank you to this subreddit for the budol! Can confirm, it really mattifies my skin.
EYES & BROWS 1. Strokes Microblade Pen (Bauxite) - the best pen out there! Lasts the whole dayy even without the gel. 2nd tub! 2. Strokes Clear Brow Gel - LOVE THIS. Trust when I say your brows wont budge! Used this when running out & my brows did not budge. Kinda hard to work with lang since it’s kinda stiff. But i still love it since it lasts the whole day. 3. Barenbliss Magic Eyeliner (Ocular Brown) - 2nd tub! The tip’s beginner-friendly and this lasts the wholee day. Used this amid the UP campus heat in college and it survived. Still use it now when working 4. Barenbliss Mascara (not in pic) - I dont always wear mascara, but I’ve had this for so long. Keeps my lashes curled pretty decently throughout the day naman.
That’s it. I hope this helps. 🩷

2024.05.21 04:41 nun_atoll Even With a Final Breath

8 March, 1608
The patient had been mostly unconscious for nearly a full day, his breathing becoming more and more laboured. Heart rate was rather accelerated, though not to enough to be deeply worrying. Appetite was, of course, weak; only some broth and milk-ice had passed the young King's lips the previous morning. There was no fever—if anything he was perhaps too cool, in spite of the well-stoked fire and many blankets—and light perspiration. Urination and defecation were sparse, given the depressed appetite.
Just as Dr. Heilig went to again check the King's pulse, the doors of the bedchamber opened quickly, and Lord Mircescu entered, his daughter in tow. The young lady carried a bundle in her arms that Dr. Heilig well knew to be the crown prince, born in the afternoon two days previously.
Lord Mircescu brushed past and went to the bedside, kneeling and taking the King's hand.
"Majesty. Your Majesty? Vladuț?"
There was a hint of consciousness, a tightening around the patient's eyelids and twitching of the muscles around the jaw, but no other response. Standing again, Lord Mircescu went to his daughter and collected the infant in her arms.
"My lord," Dr. Heilig said, "I hope you do not intend..."
"I intend to show the prince to his father," Mircescu hissed, and again stepped past the doctor.
For some days now they had kept the patient sitting up in bed, propped with a great many cushions and pillows. This eased the breathing somewhat, particularly when alternated each hour and a half or so with helping the patient to lean forward across a rolled blanket. Currently the patient was upright, and Lord Mircescu shoved one of the cushions askew to guide the body into an ever-so-slightly reclined position.
Mihai Mircescu rushed into the chamber, Ileana behind him. He barely registered the doctor near the bed, or the apprentice and assistant in the corner; for Mihai, there was only the sight of his dear young King.
The boy was sitting up in the bed, though he was clearly in some degree asleep or otherwise unaware. Mihai went to him, kneeling and taking the poor, pale, clammy hand.
"Majesty. Your Majesty?"
No response, and so he spoke again, he voice crackling with suppressed tears.
"Vladuț?"
The King's eyelids fluttered slightly, and he seemed to try and close his mouth, perhaps to shut in the horrible gurgling rasps of his breath. That was enough sign to know he would be aware of what followed.
Mihai went and took the little crown prince in his arms, and then the doctor at last drew his attention.
"My lord, I hope you do not intend..."
"I intend to show the prince to his father!"
Moving past the man, Mihai carried the baby to the bedside and shift some of the cushions so the King was closer to lying back, though he was still in actuality sitting up.
Ileana's heart was full of fear and prayers as she followed the father to the King's chamber. She had known Vlad all of their lives, had been his playfellow and friend and even protector.
Now, there was no way for her to protect him from the illness that had been stealing him away for all of those years.
She thought of the young Queen, back in the Purple Room, lying still and sore after so recently giving birth. The poor young Queen, so recently and mother and so soon to be a widow.
She would protect the Queen, and the little Prince, as she had always tried to protect Vlad.
In the King's chamber, Ileana tried not to look at the rasping, skeletal figure on the bed. It tore at her not to look on her old friend, her King, but she wished to remember him as he had been. Never had Vlad been very healthy, but once he had seemed stronger, had been a smiling, joyful figure.
After a moment, her eyes closed in prayer, she felt her father lift the Crown Prince from her arms, heard him exchange some words with someone, and then she turned her back on the whole scene.
She opened her eyes only to gaze down at the carpet and let her tears fall.
Vlad did not know if it was very late, or very early, or no time in particular. His head swam, full of darkness and dreams and threads of thought that were impossible to catch. His mind always was so lost lately. It was so hard to breathe, and to think, and to be.
Somewhere, a great distance away, someone called to him.
"Vladuț?"
He tried to open his eyes, to call out to the person, for he was very lonely here in the dark in his own head, but it was so hard to move and to breathe.
He missed Tata, who always could help him breathe again. But Tata was gone a long time ago now. Maybe a thousand years.
Someone shouted, and Vlad turned his head a little. He hated fighting and arguments.
Then someone moved him, only a little, and he was not sitting up so much.
A weight settled on his chest—not the usual, always weight of fighting to find breath, but some small, warm, soft weight. He was aware a little of a fragrance like the sweetness of warm milk, and then a voice, familiar and beloved, was near his ear.
"You have a son, your Majesty," Lord Mircescu whispered. "A perfect son."
A son? His son? Yes, Juliana had been close to having the baby, last he remembered. Was she all right, his sweet wife? Was she safe?
Straining, Vlad opened his eyes a little as he felt his hands moved over his chest. They settled on a silky, lumpy something, and when he flicked his gaze down, he saw a puff of fine dark hair poking out from the folds of a bundled blanket.
"Mm-my ssson?" Vlad managed.
"Yes, Majesty," Mircescu said. "Your son. Your Crown Prince."
Vlad felt as though his heart, indeed his very soul, soared in that moment to the heavens. He had known he would live to see his son. He had sworn it to himself and to the unborn and to God.
"Hhh... I k-kept... Kept my promise," he sighed, and willed his right hand to gently pat his infant son's back three times.
