The smell of money... Tea, incense, and sweet foods... All of this to be found in FuMuCha. A tea shop in San Francisco Chinatown, FuMuCha was a safe place where immigrants and their descendants could coexist in peace. The Lees, a Korean immigrant family, moved in many years ago with their toddler son. Their son, Vincent Lee, was easily impressionable and very outgoing. He easily made friends because he was taught to help and be helped to survive. "Money isn't everything, but take the opportunity to live", his parents told him. His parents were smart, they befriended and learned Chinese culture to make life easier to start. Time passes, preschool, ESOL, elementary, then... Middle school.
A loud thud. Blood on the ground. The silence of fear... And trembling...
"Go back to your country!" "You're not welcome here!" "Look at this loser trying to be normal."
Vincent is on the ground, bloodied nose, bruised face, cracked ribs... "I'm... Sorry...". He regretted living. He had no purpose. Living day to day just like the other kids... Until they were taught world history. No matter what he did, the kids bullied him for being the same ethnicity of those who did terrible things or were under the foot of another. Nanking, The railroad, comfort women, the boxer's rebellion, the cultural revolution... He was blamed for all of that just for being born. Isolation, growing his hair out because he refused to go out. This torment lasted until 8th grade.
Vincent walked home from school... The last day of 7th grade, he heard something... "Hiya! Ha!". He turned to look. A man on the television, a weird hairstyle, funny clothes, but... Amazing fighting skills. Vincent immediately wanted to fight like him. He found someone... Someone who could save him from his hell. He used the last of his savings to buy all of the kung fu dvds he could. He spent all summer on his own watching, learning, training... To be like the men... No, the heroes, that saved his life. He found purpose. Being someone else was so... Different. But he needed to be. When he confronted those bullied him, they couldn't win... Vincent was like a bat out of hell. Sloppy techniques, but fast, dedicated... Eventually, with each opponent he defeated, he got a bit better each time... Less bruises, less bloody noses, but... More heart. Too much. His parents decided that America may not be safest... After all, Vincent attracted the attention of the underworld Chinese Mafia. They were going to induct him once he got into highschool because of his knack for violence... So they moved.
"Korea? Why? Why're we moving? I'm getting better, Ma! I'm strong now!" Vincent didn't understand... Not until his mom held him close and said, "that's right, you're very strong. You're my strong baby boy... But ma and pa are not like you... Make sure you protect us too, okay? Protect your family in Korea."
Vincent understood that his new hope wasn't meant for just him... Fighting? Is that all there is to power? No... There's gotta something out there that will teach him what it is to be strong... Something like four schools...

Hi community šŸ‘‹
Iā€™m looking for a projector that plays DVDs and has a headphone jack that I can plug my headphones into
I tried the GPX Movie + projector but the sound only comes out of the built-in speakers, and silence from my headphones
Am I better off getting a portable DVD player? My reason for wanting a projector is to avoid eye strain from bright screens. Iā€™d like to binge some shows and I canā€™t do that with screens for more than 2 hours a day
Iā€™m new to all of this so any brands or advice is welcome. Iā€™m open to buying wireless headphones for this

2024.05.21 08:27 WrongdoerOk2941 Social stats, confidant time limits and matching personas?

1) I read that I need kindness lvl 4 for Futaba and apparently she becomes available late August but tbh it doesn't feel like it's possible to get kindness to 4 by then or at least only at the cost of every other non combat timeslot.
Is it really impossible? I wanna max her ASAP.
2) I watched 2 DVDs so far, is it fine to wait until I can get the and read that movie book in June before I watch any more DVDs, so I can max point gain or can that create timing issues?
3) I just read several confidants have time limits so you need to have rank 9 or or some other rank by November or December, is that an issue?
Do I have prioritize them above all else or can I still take advantage of timed stuff, e.g. not meeting them on rainy days when I wanna do other stuff and not have a hard time finishing their required ranks in time if I end up spending too much time in Mementos or have to visit a couple palaces more often than expected?
4) How important is it to have a matching persona when spending time with a confidant?
Am I on the safe side if I bring matching personas when meeting with the time limited confidants?
Is it worth registering a persona I need for combat, removing it to get a matching persona for the confidant when meeting them and then buying back my combat persona next time I do combat or is that too expensive if I also want to fuse a bunch of cool stuff?

2024.05.21 05:10 Miserable-Crew4947 why I feel we need guidelines on news and storytelling

Today I read of the guy that falsey reported sandy hook shooting never happened and how some think anyone should be able to report or say any falsehood they want. And to them I want to share my own experiences and show why we need some accountability and laws to prevent this from happening to other people. I will never be the same as I was because of someone's conspiracy theory.
In 2020 I was healthy of mind and body. I was active on Facebook, reddit, LinkedIn, and Twitter. I'm almost 50 and a mother of 7 and grandmother of 5. I've suffered from social anxiety and depression bit had that under control. I have a soft spot for helping abused children. My bank card rounded up to the nearest dollar and the change went to help prevent child abuse. I studied child development and child psychology in college. I am ex military and have some ptsd (the social anxiety and depression) but again under control. In 2020 there was false news coming on Facebook about children being abducted, abused in numerous ways and it broke my heart. I had to help. I was drawn in to a conspiracy theory due to my heart hurting for these children that were missing or abused. Around October I was told via comments to look up the fall of cabal videos on YouTube to get even more information about how children were being hurt. Like a dumbass that (even though I finished college) was still so gullible I went and watched all 10 videos. This conspiracy theory didn't just touch on children being hurt and abducted but my religious beliefs and my distrust of politicians. At video 10 I was so afraid but not the same way others were. You see the Bible says we won't know who Jesus or God is until Satan is revealed. So I saw this conspiracy theories idea of jfk Jr coming back not as Jesus or God but as Satan and Trump was him. Most people believed this and saw this as a godsend buy I saw it as the ultimate evil on earth. It frightened me so bad I had a nervous breakdown. I lived inside my own mind for over 8 months. To this day I still don't leave my home, don't know what's real or not, and have deleted nearly all but reddit of my social media. To remind what sanity I now have I can not watch the news, go to places where others might verbally attack me and my TV time insist of dvds I have that I know by heart. In my head still we are in end times. I can't undo that thinking. I'm trying to see a professional through the va but they are booked till October.
Last July I tried to go to a family reunion in another state. I went into psychosis because of the videos and thought the worst things about my own family. I saw my family of Trump supporters as racist and the entire reunion as a kkk hoedown. While my ex pastor uncle danced and sung while playing horseshoes I saw my uncle dancing around a fire chanting hate. While my aunts sat by the river watching their pups swim I saw them planning that nights witch orgy. While my brother bar b qued beef and chicken I saw a child's ribs and meat being cooked. I was in total psychotic break and it wasn't even a day since I was there. I was rushed home and tended to for the next two weeks while my spouse and children tried to bring my mind back to our home.
This is why we need only facts to be reported on news and if it's a fictional story then it needs disclaimers and it needs guidelines. If the word news is in the name it needs to be factual and unbiased even if it's news and entertainment. News needs to be factual and unbiased. There's no entertainment in news. It's suppose to bore the kids like it did me as a child.
Some of you will disagree and say I should know how to tell what's real and not but you might be forgetting that I am not you. No one is you. Some people are gullible and they need to be protected. The ones that normally tell me it's my fault are normally the ones saying we need to protect everything. We'll my mind should have been protected. There should have been disclaimers. There should have been rules so others like me didn't get drawn in and start believing these horror stories. I can no longer go to the park with my grandchildren out of fear. I'm too afraid to leave my home because of this conspiracy theory that took my faith, my love for children and corrupted them. I question the Bible and still feel the fear of end times all the time. I can't support anything that tries to help children afraid I'm supporting another conspiracy theorist. My entire life has been turned upside down because someone or a group decided to play with my gullibility.
I'm glad that family won their lawsuit. I hope laws begin to take place to protect families like mine ND theirs. And to those spreading the lies I hope this finds you so you can see just how much those lies have hurt this family. I hope you rot in hell and Satan has his way with you. I hope God does not forgive you for leading some of his children astray and for hurting those you have hurt. I hope his vengeance is as horrible for you as you have made my life. And normally I never wish harm on anyone because it's not very Christian.

2024.05.21 01:15 CertifiedUnoffensive Where can you get official hard copies of all seasons including the ā€œbannedā€ episodes?

Where can you get official hard copies of all seasons including the ā€œbannedā€ episodes?
Iā€™ve heard that if you buy official dvds/blurays of the show, the newer copies donā€™t included the 5 ā€œbannedā€episodes.
Which seems silly to me because why would FX give a shit what Hulu thinksā€¦?
However, this would be a major purchase and I need to know for sure, if I buy hard copies off Amazon or some such, will they include the banned eps?

2024.05.21 00:26 SuperTommyD0g Whats your opinion on buying 2nd hand DvDs?

I recently bought a projector to turn my room into a mini private cinema for myself, and i am looking to buy loads of DvDs for it. The cheapest way i have found is buying pre owned (2nd hand) ones off of Ebay for around Ā£2-3 each.
However , because its a 2nd hand DvD the creators of the film aren't getting any money off of my purchase (the same as if i were to pirate the film).
So, my question is whats your opinion on it? Is buying 2nd hand DvDs for a fraction of the original price fair game or a scummy move as the companies dont see any of the money etc.

2024.05.20 22:48 The_Better_Paradox Just remembered the terrible life I had because of them

My parents had a window in my room (which opened inside the house and in direct view from the kitchen), and could only be opened/closed outside of my room (from another room). They did it so they could "watch" over me, whenever they felt like doing so. It's not like i ever indulged in self harm. Honestly, if they had the technical expertise, they would had installed spywares on my phone and probably cameras too.
I used to shut my doors whenever I didn't want to see them or they were fighting or shouting or when I became really angry at them so I closed the door to vent my anger privately, because I am really sensitive to sound and it's unbearing to hear them shouting at me or anyone else. Ofc, they once removed the locks too. I somehow got around it.
Behaviours like this and below made me incapable of living freely, even if I'm alone and incapable of enjoying myself.
I really liked reading books so in SUMMER VACATION of class 7th, I started reading HP on my tablet, which they started having trouble with and they nagged and nitpicked about it so much that I didn't touch a book (which didn't relate to school's course) for a long time. Just recently, I'm trying to revive my love for books.
I enjoyed building stuff and I had this idea of building a car which could float and run on water too, viz an amphibion car. Now, I didn't get any support to build such stuff so I used to break my toys and other useless stuff to build them. For the tires, I was using DVDs to create hollow tired. I cropped them small and used two of them to make tires (hollow and spacious from the inside). Then I sealed the tire with tapes. This would've worked as a big hollow tire which would've made my small car floatable enough due to buoyancy They threw it away because "oh, it was garbage so I threw it away. "
I used to like playing with other kids. Apparently, playing for 2-3 hours was a lot for a 5th grader with decent grades ( 95% in 5th) so they basically discouraged me to play with other kids and I, after some time, just shut myself inside the house.
I hated tutors, I liked to learn in a flexible environment like school. In 5th, as I told before, I got 95% but for some reason, they had to hire a tutor in the starting of 6th class because apparently, I wasn't paying "enough attention" to studies. Now, this was suffocating and my grades dipped to 89 and 88% though near the end of the year, I had to irritate the tutor to the extent that he willingly stopped coming to teach me. In 7th, it took me half a year to get familiar again with studing on my own and by the end of it, my grades of finals was 97% again.
No grade was ever enough for them so I stopped improving but my grades never went below 90. Always the "why can't you be the first? The neighbourhood girl is first everytime!"
I also used to get medals (1st rank on state level) in the olympiads they made me participate. It never satisfied them and they still were dissatisfied with me as to why I didn't get better school grades. Naturally, I had enough and I stopped making efforts for olympiads at all.
They ALWAYS ALWAYS compared me to a girl in the neighbourhood who was one class higher and why I didn't get better grades than her.
My father really hated me. When I was less than 8 yo, my father, for whatsoever reason, was talking to a colleague and told them that he wasn't at home. My baby brother was crying but it was okay for the colleague to listen to it because "a baby on outside could be crying" but when I sneezed by mistake, he started shouting at me that the colleague may think he was at home and that someone inside the home had sneezed.
Ofc, I used to get beaten every now and then for such stupid reasons and my mother, she willingly let me suffer. That's why I hate her equally too. I just remembered, I was beaten by him everytime because I didn't stop crying after getting beaten, until I stopped crying. Once, I was watching Albert Einstein's documentary, when I was in 7th. My father saw me watching it and I got beaten to the point that both of my hands swelled and I couldn't even bend them for days. Even in 12th, I got the threat that he'd beat me like the same as if it's something to boast about šŸ¤¢
When I was less than 8yo, I used to watch tv, I don't know how much but ig it warranted them to cut off the TV connection permanently so I didn't had anything to entertain me for more than 5 years, no tv and obviously no games.
When I was around 14 years old, I used to still sleep with my parents Because that room had the only AC in their home.
Now, my younger brother was like 6yo, used to fight a lot with me and ofc, I was shouted at by my father, to the extent that one day, he shouted at me to leave the room in the middle of the night. I had to. Now, the city I was living in, had a very horrible summer, maybe 40 degrees. Now, I had to sleep in such heat, with only a fan above my head. I just beared with it and slept and got accustomed to it. Now the hypocrite started shouting at me as to why I didn't sleep in the AC instead of the warm room I was sleeping in, that I should sleep with them. I probably accepted his invitation but I still got shouted at everyday until I permanently left their room.
They even had problems when I read encyclopedias. I really liked reading the only books I wanted and got, to the extent that I could turn to the page of a particular topic instantly. Ofc, they had to nitpick & nag me about it and so, I never touched them, ever again. These books were really precious to me because I was fascinated by science. I always wanted a telescope and I even asked one for my birthday. Ofc, they didn't. They could, they had the financial leeway to buy one, but they didn't. Because "I would become too busy and spend my night waking up, stargazing"
When you systematically stop me from doing anything I like, what do I become but a shell of a human being? Who doesn't like anything anymore? Who doesn't like social interaction anymore? Who doesn't like to breathe in the same country as them? Who gets outburst and cry whenever I really really think about what they did? Writing all this, I realised that many of the emotions and memories I'm experiencing/reliving right now were suppressed to save my sanity. They always used this to demonise me in front of my relatives, because I couldn't defend myself at all because I didn't remember anything but only the emotions I felt at the time.
"Oh but we brought you everything we could? You should respect your parents and not badmouth them" as if I wanted money. I only wanted love but I got conditions to fulfil to be that ideal child they couldn't be, an all rounder, the jack of all trades. There's a scene in assassination Classroom which really hurts me because this was a living reality for me too https://youtu.be/yGGbrRJy9l0?si=DdBN5YzYDFAREhuX I was a stage 2 rpg for them.
Now, I hate my country, my religion and everything that minutely relates to them. I wanna tell more things but that'll identify my religion or my country which I don't want myself to be related to, AT ALL!
I swear to god, if I let them continue, I'd have been hit by "why are you breathing this way" one day.
I remember when I got bad grades (unusual and rare) in the monthly test. Other kids remarked how since I usually get great grades, I'd not be scolded or anything. I laughed from the inside, if only they knew how much I suffer because of being academically above average, how I'd probably be beaten or nagged about it for days on end.
I only wanted to talk about the window in my room but one thing let to another and I wrote many things I didn't have the intention of. Maybe this seems entitled, maybe I'm too privileged to think this way. And I understand this probably doesn't make sense to other readers but I just wanted to vent to the extent I'm not identifiable.
I don't really have a "reason" to live, I'm living only because I'm not dead yet and dying is painful. I've great friends but all of this is unbearable. Afterall, they didn't have to suffer like me. I can't live for the sake of my own enjoyment, i never was allowed to develop that ability. I think maybe if I'm in a relationship, I'll be able to live for the other person. It's a big maybe because I don't know, have never been in a relationship yet. Obviously, if they ever had found (which they would be able to), I would've been beaten a lot. The only thing I can do nonstop now is code, build stuff, because to me, it's a window to the outside free world. It's the only thing I can do without getting depressed. I liked physics and maths, but other actions of them (admitting me in a non-flexible, highly competive and depressing school to learn maths, physics) killed my love for them. I think I'll try to learn them, on my own, in the future. I hope I can.
They are pigs, they're the most disgusting creatures. And I'll never see them again when I'm financially free but is doing anything worth it? I don't know. I really hated calling them father or mother in this post, they're worse than pigs to me.
I'm the most optimistic guy. I try to cheer up others and that they should learn to be optimistic etc. but in reality, I'm a mess because I can't even be happy. And it's hypocritical because I ask and advice others to be happy when I myself can't be. I just don't want others to end up like me.
I have a younger brother and I think he will grow on their side because my parents have always been trying to create enmity between us. I like him but I don't. He has purposefully got me beaten by fake crying, and framing me for things I didn't do. Ofcourse, what I said didn't matter and I still got beaten by them. My brother exploited this a lot. (He was 8, I was 16)
Idk, I still feel that I should one day repay any monetary debts and discomfort I caused them and then be done with them, which would mean cutting everyone in the family off because they'd side with my parents and console me to talk to them. What should I do when faced with this? Do i have to pay them back at all? My consciousness doesn't allow me to not pay them back. I think I should pay them back and only then stop talking at all. I probably shouldn't, I'd like to hear others opinion on this.
I have had to explain myself so many of times that explaining myself to anyone is a trigger to me and now I hate doing that and think of it subconsciously as a personal attack.
I once went to a therapist with my mom. After two session, she prescribed me depression and insomnia pills. This gave my mom the opportunity to call me crazy at home. See, you ARE Mental. "I'm depressed". What are you even depressed of? You don't need to be depressed. Like sure, it's a switch I can turn off when I feel like it when I've to live with the cause of my depression everyday.
I think I don't have anything to share so I'll stop. Some thoughts came at random times so I added them where I felt it fit or just at the end if it didn't. The grammar is a mess because I can't think straight when I think about this and other things.
My favourite person in fiction is The Doctor from Doctor Who. He's free, curious and a kind person. I want to be like him, even after all of this.
tl/dr My childhood was marked by my parents' controlling and emotionally abusive behavior, which stifled my interests and passions. They constantly compared me to others, imposed unreasonable expectations, and created a toxic environment at home. Despite my achievements in school and competitions, I was never able to satisfy them, and their frequent physical and emotional abuse left me with lasting scars. I'm struggling with depression and trying to rebuild my life. I want to cut ties with my parents but feel conflicted about repaying them first. My focus now is on healing, finding joy and meaning in my life again, to make sense of it.
I'll probably delete this in a day

2024.05.20 18:24 blue_sky_addict Tips to determine itemsā€™ value to sell?

So basically my bfā€™s grandma passed away and left the house to him. Weā€™re clearing up the house to sell and have put together lots of her things such as jewelry, old hardcover book collections, DVDs, antique decorating items, crystal glasses, paintings, etc. While we gave some to charity, we keep items that we think are valuable, as grandma had a taste and wouldnā€™t buy things randomly.
Google Image has helped a bit so far but not to most of the items as I couldnā€™t find the exact version through it, or led to auction sites with items sold without prices. Does anyone know a good way to do this please?
Thanks a lot! And sorry if this seems a bit wordy, English isnā€™t my first language.

2024.05.20 16:51 raymate Best film collection to get

For some reason over the years Iā€™ve not actually purchased and Bond movies on disc formats. I have the odd VHS
I want I get Bond on disc and want to ask the Bond experts what is regarded as the best set to get for the movies. In print or out of print
Iā€™m open to get DVD or Blueray. Even both of its felts certain versions are better then other.
What also sparked my interest in getting them on discs is I have been going back and getting older DVDs thatā€™s have ā€œdtsā€ encoded sound tracks and I see some early bonds come with dts. So I wonder if I should aim for them. I have a good cinema setup.
But really after info on which sets or individual discs releases to avoid if they are bad.
It seem a bit of a mind field in finding what to buy.

2024.05.20 00:22 BoyChubtastic Using subscription services for most media is dumb

I don't use Spotify, Netflix, HBO or any other paid subscription service. If I see a trailer for a show I like or hear a song I like, I buy it as a single. For shows either Blue Rays or DVDs and music either in digital download or physical CDs. I like to 'own' my copies. I know the rights don't belong to me but having to rely on a greedy ass company to maintain your media collection feels extremely uncomfortable. If the service goes down, there goes everything I have collected. Same logic can be applied to video games as well. If I have to rely on my games (not counting MMOs / online games) being in some cloud service, it takes away the feeling of actually owning your video games. People have become too lazy and thus fallen prey to mass media orgs that take away your ability to own your media. Same goes for any software like Photoshop. When they go cloud-only, I stop buying, and instead just crack the software if need be lol. More people should do this. It's not hard.
I also use a lot of "third party" streaming sites that host 99% of all shows and movies, we all know what those are. They're built great and don't demand you to download anything in order for them to work. No need to worry about malware either if you have at least half a brain and know how to have protection installed on your PC.
Netflix becoming more and more predatory and pretty much going back on their word in terms of sharing your account with people, gives me the ick. If there is a way to directly support the makers of the media I enjoy, I will try to do it, preferably in way that lets me get my own private copy of said media, be it music, software, games or anything else. I don't like that I have been pushed into piracy, but that is the only option I see for the time being. I remember the days where I would go and just buy the DVD boxes for the shows I liked. No longer is that an option for most media.
Honestly, I don't get it how things like Spotify etc. are able to even exist. Maybe i'm in the minority here.

2024.05.20 00:17 xopersephoneox Are there any Directors that you've collected specifically for?

Although I want to build my collection and find good movies that I'll want to rewatch, I do look in particular for a couple of directors that I particularly like. The more basic being Wes Anderson, Sofia Coppola and Hayao Miyazaki. Miyazaki in particular has been harder to thrift (I only buy DVDs second hand) but I did find a sweet Blu-Ray of Princess Mononoke at a charity shop for a fiver. Anyone have any collections they're particularly proud of or particularly difficult to complete?

2024.05.19 22:54 skr4wek Rumors / discussion etc about Giuseppe Andrews over the last decade or so

I thought it might be useful to lay out some of the more credible sounding comments and discussion I've seen around "the end" of Giuseppe's career and his disappearance. Nothing here is "officially verified", but I think there's a fair bit of truth in a lot of the information here, and might help point anyone who's interested in the right direction to a better understanding of his story. I've included the ones that make more sense to me/ reflect my own knowledge of the situation.
Giuseppe was living around Canandaigua, NY towards the end, staying with Mary's parents in her childhood home for a period, after they both had left Austin for unknown reasons. I would imagine the reasons would have likely been mental health and/ or money related for both of them (he was approximately 36 years old, at this point). Mary was still shipping movies out for a while around this time - the last order I placed on the website myself was November of 2014 and ended up emailing back a couple weeks later, because she had never sent me any information about receiving the order / shipping it out, in contrast to all earlier orders I had placed. She replied pretty quick though, and told me she had shipped it out earlier - it arrived about a week after. The return address was her parent's place in upper state NY.
Giuseppe's output got increasingly erratic and bizarre over the next couple years, and I wasn't really sure if half the items he was selling there were even real... they would have completely nonsensical descriptions, often like a free association / shitty "beat poetry" kind of thing, usually in all caps, featuring lots of bizarre and offensive language (racial slurs, AIDS references, etc), and the products listed were often things like a "3 minute DVD" for 20 dollars, so I was pretty skeptical / really didn't have much interest. He'd announce a ridiculous amount of new material, I'm talking like 5 new movies and 5 albums every week... The last order I made was for a few of the Austin films and I really didn't enjoy them, and more or less lost interest in any future projects at this point. I would still check periodically just to see what he was posting to the site, just out of curiosity / because a lot of it was really out there. He used to have audio samples for his "albums", and he almost exclusively was posting CDs of him ranting (with a ton of very weird throat clearing and coughing, it almost seemed like a Tourettes thing). His site went down somewhere between March 23, 2017 and July 3, 2017 according to Internet Archive. I can't remember exactly when he stopped adding new items, but it was probably sometime in early 2017.
He was clearly living in and around Canandaigua for a while, for at least 2-3 years, maybe even longer...
February 2017 - a twitter account called "HELP GIUSEPPE" was created and made three posts:
@ thecampaignbook Shia, G.A just came into my local bar needing help. he was stressin bad. hes in canandaigua NY and just stormed out of here
@ AdamRifkin G.A just stormed into my local bar, made it half way through the set up of this account and stormed out. needing you it seems.
@ EdwardNorton Giuseppe Andrews just came into my local bar very alarmed/needing a friend and help.
July 5, 2020 - a YouTube video entitled "What Happened to Giuseppe Andrews? A Short Investigation" is posted, some of the comments that were posted include:
(approx: 2021) I live in a small town called Carlin.. itā€™s literally 24 miles from Elko Nevada.. back in may of 2019 I was working at a small casino.. Giuseppe would often frequent the casino.. I worked the graveyard shift so it was mostly quiet.. he was polite and even remembered my name and would always ask me how I was.. I was able to get him to take a selfie with him and he even drew some artwork for me.. he told me that I could sell the artwork if I wanted to and fetch a decent price for it.. my husband and I were in the process of buying our first house and I told him no I would frame it and it would be proudly displayed.. he almost started tearing up..Iā€™d happily upload the photo if YouTube would let me..
The same commenter also mentioned, responding to a comment about Detroit Rock City: yeah that was a good movie.. itā€™s really sad how his life played out.. he told me some sad tales of what he went through
> In early 2018 a man rang my doorbell in Canandaigua, NY. He was disheveled and seemed out of it***. He started yelling at me ā€œI am Giuseppe Andrews, a Hollywood actor. I need you to call the police. ā€œ I was startled and a little afraid but I told him to wait outside and I went in and called 911. He waited on my lawn and the police arrived in about 5 minutes. He spoke to the police in the car and then walked away. I donā€™t really live within walking distance of anywhere so not sure where he was going. I tried to obtain info from the police about what was going on but was not told anything. Has remained a mystery all these years later and I think people ( other than my neighbors who witnessed it) donā€™t believe me when I tell the story. Strange but 100% true.***
Some other interesting comments from various accounts, talking about the last stuff he was posting publicly:
> On his YouTube before he start d doing 13 albums in 2 weeks, his gf released a video a bunch of videos that was 4 or 5 hours long of him ranting on a couch with a guy. I think she was documenting it. I wish I would of downloaded it.
> And the next day it was all gone the footage, I have signed copys of DVDs and posters and shit he sent me in the mail.
(A reply from another commenter) - I remember he went on a long rant about various people in Hollywood and whatnot. Someone mentioned him having schizophrenia/paranoia, and while I'm in no way a psychologist or medical professional, it did seem like things were getting progressively more bizarre and unhinged. Given how creative and abstract he was when he initially started with his film making and music, I think it masked what was actually going on ( whether it was drug use, the onset of some sort of mental illness, or a mix of the two ). Earlier on he was still eccentric but seemed more lucid and driven with what he was doing.
> From what I've gathered (also a fan from DRC and Cabin Fever) his mother committed him to an institution and when released, he went to live with his mother. The twitter chick claims to be his fiancƩ now and he's no longer with Mary. But who knows.
It would turn out that Andrews also suffers from some very severe issues. Having chatted with his mother Giuseppegirl informed me that he has recently been placed in a mental health facility and has begun a 6 month stint in there where he has no access to the internet or anyone other than family members. He had a break up with his wife Mary Beth, who appears in a lot of his films, so it's possible that this is what put him over the edge. I've talked with Adam Rifkin who says he has some of Giuseppe's rarer films, but hasn't talked with the man for a few years now. That's as far as I have gotten in the rabbit hole.
A bigger YouTube channel made a video about Giuseppe's disappearance, titled "What Happened to Giuseppe Andrews? Internet Mysteries", posted Nov. 11, 2021:
(this commenter is different from account who made the earlier comment about ringing the doorbell in NY):
This dude showed up at my parents house 3 years ago in the middle of the night, asking for help and saying he needed to be let in. Absolutely no way was that happening. Long story short we found out after the fact that he was a character in Detroit Rock City & American History X some of my favorite movies
The last video of him I saw was a crazed rant of him yelling about censorship of art. He was real angry and cursing in a vlog style video. I think some people were criticizing him for use of racist language in his films Iā€™m not exactly sure but I saw snippets of his rant and then the video was taken down a month later along with everything else.
1 year ago:
> He currently lives in Elko Nevada after having a schizophrenic break he still lives with his loving mother part time and she takes care of him. I see him around town a lot and only recently found out that he is Giuseppe Andrews. I can answer most questions if youā€™re curious.
There was also an interesting thread about 4 years ago, on a different subreddit:
https://www.reddit.com/RedLetterMedia/comments/gal55x/giuseppe_andrews/
A few of the more interesting remarks:
After his California days he spent a few years around Austin making films that mostly just starred himself and his wife Mary. Some of these are really good but his minimalism and experimentation are pushed to the limits here. Some are absolute garbage. After this there was a short stint in upstate New York with this same kind of limited style. Shortly into this cycle things for weird then he disappeared. Right before he disappeared he was posting a lot of troublesome content and releasing TONS of music and films with nonsensical names like "fffff" which would be followed up with "fffffffff". I haven't seen any of this stuff.
> I remember the New York era where things kinda went off the deep end. He released a lot of content where he talked a lot. There was quite a few where he would mention that he was desperately trying to reach out to John Frusciante
Has anyone else stumbled across any comments out there, that support this general narrative / add additional context, or perhaps give reason to believe something a bit different? In particular, towards the end with his site and the long drawn out "spoken word albums" / posts he would make? I listened to some of the audio samples when they were on the site years ago and some of it was unbelievably weird, like he was in a totally dissociated state, talking to people who weren't actually there. There were a couple specific celebrities he was "talking to" quite often, John Frusciante was one for sure, and another guitar player from a relatively small band I can't remember now (I looked them up at the time and thought it was particularly weird, as they were like a small time college rock band who had broken up years prior).
One thing I do remember quite distinctly was I was quite surprised when a shot of Giuseppe on a playground with a man and woman in upper state NY was posted to Instagram, a short while after his website went down. If I remember correctly, they were musicians and the caption said something to the effect that he was helping them film a video. At this point I thought he was more or less completely out of it based on what he'd been posting to his website, so I was really surprised that he had connected with some strangers to actually do something like that, but I don't believe there was ever any follow up posts. I haven't been able to find that post since, if anyone ever remembers seeing that, and who the couple were that would be unbelievably helpful to me!
From the bits and pieces that have come out, I feel like I can stitch together a bit of an understanding of how things might have gone down over the last decade, but a lot is still very speculative to an extent. I'm really curious if anyone out there can corroborate some of these stories in any way, or add any additional information!

Gosling plays seasoned stunt maestro Colt Seavers, utterly unafraid of any physical challenges, self-effacingly doubling for insufferably conceited star Tom Ryder (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), who outrageously claims to do all his own stunts. Colt is having a passionate affair with beautiful, talented camera operator Jody Moreno (Blunt), but when he is involved in a catastrophic and career-ending failed stunt, he is overwhelmed with macho shame, thinking the accident was his fault because his infatuation with Jody made him take his eye off the ball. Colt self-pityingly disappears from view during physical rehab and cuts off all contact with Jody, who is deeply hurt. But then hard-faced producer Gail (Hannah Waddingham) persuades him to come back to work on Jodyā€™s first film as a director, a sci-fi epic starring Ryder as a space cowboy doing an awful sub-Matthew-McConaughey Texas accent. Gail claims that Jody herself wanted him ā€“ but she and the unspeakable Ryder have their own wicked plans in mind.
David Leitch started as a stunt double, working with actors like Brad Pitt, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Matt Damon, and many more. His directorial debut was a little film called ā€œJohn Wick,ā€ and he parlayed that success into films like ā€œAtomic Blondeā€ and ā€œBullet Train.ā€ He returns to his roots in ā€œBack to Black,ā€ inspired by the Lee Majors show of the same name about a Hollywood stuntman who happened to also be a bounty hunter. Little narrative DNA is shared with the show beyond a profession and a name, but the 2024 ā€œBack to Blackā€ does have the general tone of ā€˜80s television in the way it blends a bit of humor, romance, mystery, and action into the mix, willing to drop references to the action stars that inspired it while also carving out its own personality.

When Will 'Back to Black', Be Available on Blu-ray and DVD?
As of right now, we don't know. While the film will eventually land on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD, Universal Pictures has yet to reveal a specific date as to when that would be.

2024.05.19 17:38 ajisherexx Xena Cabaret Footage

Iā€™ve been looking through old Xena Convention photos recently, and it came to my attention that there is hardly any cabaret footage available on YouTube, especially of Ted Raimi? The closest that I have found was a 2008 clip of him singing, but unfortunately the clip has been heavily cut and edited. Iā€™m pretty sure he did other songs as well, but I really cannot seem to find anything except photos. Is there anywhere to watch archives of the conventions? I would even consider buying DVDs at this point. The cabaret videos are ridiculously hard to come by.

2024.05.18 20:30 roseohseven Long first time trip report 5/13-5/18!

LOOOONG first time trip report! 5/13-5/18, stayed at Beach Club, visited all four parks, bought Genie+ every day, had the standard DDP. Family of 4, two girls 5 and 9. I learned so much from this group over the past year and especially loved trip reports, so hopefully this post will be helpful to someone!
šŸ’²BUDGETšŸ’²
-- I booked the trip a year out so I could break it up into 12 manageable payments. I opened the no fee Disney VISA, which gives you several months of no interest on charges made towards Disney travel packages, rewards dollars to use at Disney, and a couple other perks like character meet and greets and discounts.
-- I signed up for Disney Movie Insiders. This is what you're supposed to do with all those little codes that come in Disney DVDs/Blurays. You enter the codes in exchange for points, and at 1000 points, you can redeem for a $10 Disney gift card. You also get points for being subscribed to Disney+, seeing Disney movies in the theater, their social media accounts, and a whole bunch of other things. I got $50 in gift cards from this alone.
-- If you want Disney-themed luggage, try thinking outside the box to save money! I got plain luggage in Mickey colors--red and black--and Mickey luggage tags to make them Disney themed.
-- I tried to budget for souvenirs via gift cards... but I failed, lol. Everything is so expensive, $100 is gone in a second. Plushes are like $40, coffee cups are $20, etc. Whatever you're planning to spend, double it! I get what people say about most shops having the same stuff, but it's definitely not all of them, most of the ones post-ride have unique stuff. And honestly it's kind of nice most of them have the same stuff, if you want to get whatever your kid was asking for earlier, you don't have to walk all the way back to the one shop you saw it at.
-- We paid for Memory Maker and I'm on the fence about it. On the one hand, it's really nice to get all the ride photos and meet and greet photos and magic shots. It's also really nice for the whole family to be in a lot of pictures and not have to swap with the other adult or find someone willing to take your picture. On the other, we definitely didn't utilize it as much as I wanted to because a lot of the photographers had pretty long lines and I just didn't want to spend time waiting for a picture I could take myself. If we came across someone with a shortish or no line, we made sure to get it, but for anyone with a long line, we just stood around the same spot and took our own.
šŸ—“ļøPLANNINGšŸ—“ļø
-- If you have kids and live within easy driving distance of another amusement park, highly recommend making a visit BEFORE going to Disney to get an idea of how they handle that kind of day/environment, especially if they have never been. I quickly discovered we would absolutely need a stroller and I would need to be militant with the kids about staying hydrated. Also to avoid face paint, as heat + tears + paint + eyes = bad day! I felt so much better making these discoveries beforehand and being able to prepare accordingly, rather than making them at Disney.
-- USE AN AGENT! An agent is free to you, so why not have the help? Ours was amazing, she gave us quotes, booked the package, rebooked as needed later when a better deal came out, made all the payments, dining and extra reservations, and was just all-around awesome to work with. It was such a load off to know I wasn't on my own with all this stuff.
-- Watch everything Ear Scouts. No one explains Genie+ better, and Rob and Erick's videos are just so positive and beautiful and well done.
-- I also enjoyed reading Disney Tourist Blog--lovingly snarky but super informative!--and Disney Food Blog for fun tips and news.
-- I didn't find any park to be a half day park, we filled our whole day in every one and still didn't see everything!
-- My kids did really well, whenever they were on the verge of cranky, we had one ride in the stroller for a while, bought a snack (usually ice cream or popcorn), and used the bubble wand, and/or gave them some ibuprofen, and everyone felt better pretty quick. We never tried to do fireworks, we were all done by 8 so always left after dinner. The only park we closed down was EPCOT because we didn't get out of dinner until after close, and that was a really cool experience, the park was so quiet and empty and beautiful!
-- You don't NEED a Magic Band... but man, was it convenient. We just had 1.0 Magic Bands though, we didn't bother with the 2.0s.
-- I guess moving through security fast is important to people rope dropping... but as someone who didn't, it added like maybe 30 seconds to a minute to the experience the couple times my bag got flagged, it's really not a big deal.
-- I'm not saying anyone's lying about bad experiences or exaggerating or anything, but try to remember that far more people go on the Internet to complain than they do to praise. I got so stressed about all the things that could go wrong, and we had a pretty much perfect trip. The only attraction that broke down on us was Muppetvision, of all things. The only "bad behavior" we witnessed was the morning we were leaving, we could hear a dad across the hall yelling at his family, I think they overslept and were going to miss their flight or something? We just turned the TV on so we didn't have to hear him. A couple times we forgot to take our stuff with us when we parked our stroller or forgot some food in it, and neither people nor animals bothered it. The only dicey thing that happened to us was me dropping my phone into the Dumbo moat, the cast members fished it out and it still worked, I sent them a cast compliment for all their help! All the cast members were great, I'm not really sure what people expect but IMO they all do amazing for having to be peppy and helpful all day in absolutely blazing heat, walking a ride conveyer belt nonstop, repeating the same spiels over and over, meeting person after person, etc. I wouldn't last a 2 hour shift let alone 8. Cast members, you rock!!!
āœˆļøTRAVELāœˆļø
-- We flew Delta, flight there was flawless, flight home was delayed by an hour waiting for crew and was a little bumpy (which is not great for a nervous flyer like me) but otherwise fine.
-- Get TSA PreCheck! Good for a few years, if the adults have it the kids have it too. It made the whole experience so much easier. That said, even PreCheck still moves kind of slow at MCO, so definitely get there at least 2 hours early for your flight. Use curbside check-in for bags, way faster than the long line inside!
-- On our agent's recommendation, we used Away We Go for ground transport in Orlando. They communicate really well, both ways were flawless, no complaints!
-- We used Minnie Vans to get to Animal Kingdom + Sanaa and Magic Kingdom, what a wonderful service! Definitely pricey, but they had cartoons on in the car, booster seats they set up for you, and the drivers were so nice and friendly and had fun trivia to share. I never had any problem requesting one when I needed it.
ā›±ļøBEACH CLUBā›±ļø
-- We knew we wanted an onsite hotel where you could walk to at least one park. This pretty much limits you to a handful of Deluxe hotels or the Swan and Dolphin. Beach Club won for us because it's "in the Disney bubble" and you can walk to 2/4 parks. Note that while you can technically walk to Hollywood Studios, it is a LOOOONG walk. The boat is a nice not crowded alternative! We did not make use of Early Entry or Extended Hours, we're just not built for either. Beach Club was lovely, we booked a resort view but I think we ended up with a water view, we were right by the quiet pool and could see the water beyond from our room. Stormalong Bay was a little crazy for us but we loved the quiet pool. Best thing about Beach Club though is the location, EPCOT is literally steps away!
šŸŒ³ANIMAL KINGDOMšŸŒ³
-- We had read that there's really no bad day to do AK, so we started there. We rode: Navi River Journey, Flight of Passage, Kali River Rapids, Everest, Kilimanjaro Safaris, Triceratops Spin, and Dinosaur--so pretty much everything! With Genie+ we walked onto all of them. We also met Moana, Pocahontas, and Russell! The only thing we didn't do here that we wanted to was the Gorilla Falls trail, but we just ran out of time before the park closed.
šŸŒEPCOTšŸŒ
-- We had read to avoid EPCOT on Fridays and Saturdays, so we went on Wednesday. We rode: Grand Fiesta Tour, Living with the Land, Nemo, Spaceship Earth, Imagination with Figment, Frozen, Remy, Journey of Water, and Guardians--everything we wanted! Again, with Genie+, we walked right onto everything! Outside of our character meal (more on that in the dining section!), we also met Anna, Elsa, and Asha! Tried a couple of Flower and Garden snacks: chicken and waffles, fruit and cheese strudel, and potato pancakes, all were delicious! Everyone had a different favorite day, but EPCOT was personally my favorite day, it felt like we were firing on all cylinders and the day just went really smoothly!
šŸ°MAGIC KINGDOMšŸ°
-- We had read that Wednesdays were the quietest days at MK, so we were originally going to try to do it that day, but we could only get a reservation for Cinderella's Royal Table on Thursday, so we switched it up. Definitely the most crowded of all the parks we visited, but I think that's just the norm for MK, everyone wants to go to the castle park with the most rides. We rode: Regal Carousel, Tomorrowland Speedway, Barnstormer, Magic Carpets, Mad Tea Party, People Mover, Dumbo, Small World, Little Mermaid, Pirates, Space Ranger Spin, Jungle Cruise, TRON, and Peter Pan. Again, with Genie+, we walked right onto everything! The only ride we missed at this park that we wanted to do was Pooh, I couldn't manage to get a return time that was earlier than we planned on leaving. Outside of our character meals (more on those in the dining section!) we also met Mirabel, Tiana, and Rapunzel! We had both the Rapunzel and Aurora ice creams, both so good and cute!
šŸŽ¬HOLLYWOOD STUDIOSšŸŽ¬
-- We had read that, like MK, it's better to do HS later in the week, so we went Friday. We rode: Slinky, Alien Saucers, Toy Story Mania, Rise, Smuggler's Run, Runaway Railway. Again, with Genie+, we walked right onto everything! The only ride we missed was Tower of Terror, again I couldn't manage to get a return time that was earlier than we planned on leaving. We also met Olaf, be aware Olaf doesn't sign stuff, they just give you a signature card. This park needs more shade IMO, especially Toy Story Land, I know it's supposed to be Andy's backyard, but I don't see why that means we can't have some shade from trees or something. šŸ¤Ŗ Blue milk from Galaxy's Edge was really good, the family was all fighting over it!
šŸ½ļøDININGšŸ½ļø
-- We almost certainly lost some money on the DDP, but I'm still glad we got it because it allowed us to do more table service meals and have less stress overall about expenses. We easily used up everything but child quick service credits, we had a few of those left over near the end.
Here's where we ate!
BOARDWALK DELI/PIZZA WINDOW: Pizza for the kids, sandwiches for the adults. Tasty and satisfying after our day of travel!
BEACHES AND CREAM: Got the kitchen sink for the experience, but honestly it's not great, all the ice cream and toppings melt together quick and you just end up with weird ice cream soup.
SAT'ULI CANTEEN: LOVED this place, everything was so yummy! Best quick service we had!
SANAA: Since Animal Kingdom closes so early, we thought we'd try to extend the experience by eating at Sanaa. What a great idea, we got seated right by a window and saw so many animals! The food was great too.
AKERSHUS: Our favorite princess meal! We met Aurora, Tiana, Snow White, Ariel, and Belle. They were all lovely, and the breakfast was really good too. Only 1 credit on the DDP!
GARDEN GRILL: Our kids really enjoyed getting to look down over Living with the Land and the fact that the restaurant spins. We met Farmer Mickey, Pluto, and Chip and Dale. They were fun and even came to our table more than once. Food was good!
SPACE 220: Not on the DDP, but wow, what a cool restaurant! Almost like a ride with the theming and the elevator up. Food was really good.
CINDERELLA'S ROYAL TABLE: You gotta eat in the castle! We paid for it OOP because we didn't want to use up 2 DDP credits here. You're really going for the location and the princesses, the food is kinda meh, not bad but not as good as other places. The restaurant is small and they have to turn tables quick, so it's very understandable to me that the princesses have to move fast. It's not that they rush you, they'll take all the pictures you ask for and sign whatever and answer your questions, but if you don't have much you need, they try to keep moving. Akershus is much bigger so they are able to be more relaxed there. The only small bummer is that we didn't see Merida (maybe she was on vacation too!) We did meet Cinderella, Ariel, Jasmine, and Aurora though!
CRYSTAL PALACE: We are not big on buffets but we enjoyed meeting Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore and Tigger!
TOPOLINO'S: Maybe the best food of the trip, steak and eggs were so good! The character artist costumes are so cute too. It was fun to have an excuse to ride the Skyliner to get here from Beach Club too.
DOCKING BAY 7: The theming is great, but the food wasn't as good as Satuli Canteen IMO.
THE MARKET AT ALE & COMPASS: We had quick service credits we wanted to use up on the last day and we didn't want to leave the resort again, otherwise I would have gone somewhere else, food was meh.
āœØEXTRASāœØ
-- I originally wanted to book Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique for my kids, but it's so expensive/competitive that I decided I didn't want the stress. Instead I booked Have Wand, Will Travel to come to our room and bought dresses from Presley Couture and Only Little Once. I chose Have Wand, Will Travel because they keep character throughout. Fairy Godmother Elyse was amazing and so much fun, my kids loved it and kept talking about it all day!
-- That same morning I ordered a Sammicakes breakfast box with beignets for us to eat. I also ordered a pretend letter from The DCP and Me on Etsy to make it seem like the breakfast came from Tiana. My kids also loved this and had fun telling Tiana about it both times we met her. Sammicakes was good but a LOT of food, sadly we didn't end up eating half of it. It can last you at least 3 days!
-- We had Birthdays and More decorate our door, it was a really fun surprise for the kids on our first day and made our room easy to find. The kids also loved reusing the decorations at home on their own doors!
-- Matching shirts and ear hats, all from Etsy! So many cool designs there, hardest part is choosing!
-- Got my kids a pin trading lanyard with some pins, they loooooved pin trading! It was like free souvenirs.
šŸ§³PACKINGšŸ§³
-- Things the Internet Told Me to Pack That I Needed: Scissors, ziploc bags, ibuprofen (kids and adults), garbage bags, big carabiners to hook on the strolleuse to carry multiple bags at once.
-- Things the Internet Told Me to Pack that I Didn't Need: stainless steel straws (the paper straws are more like hard cardboard, they really don't break down unless your kid is gnawing on them or something), ponchos (it did rain some most days, but wearing a poncho was almost more miserable than not wearing one, it's so hot and humid to be walking around in a plastic bag! We did better taking shelter and using umbrellas.), wipes (obv you need them if your kid is younger, but mine were older and just never got messy enough to need them), glow sticks (we never stayed anywhere long enough to use them), bottled wateLiquid IV (the tap water tasted the same as home to us, but we live in a rural area so maybe we are just used to imperfect water?) Basically, the less you can get away carrying in the parks, the better. It's annoying to lug stuff around you don't end up needing or using!
šŸ›žSTROLLERšŸ›ž
-- I know it seems insane that your 5 year old and 9 year old will need a stroller, but mine definitely did. Once I accepted that I was going to have to get one, I tried to make the best of it, and actually got really into decorating it so we could always easily spot it in the sea (the decorations also later made nice wall decor for a gallery of our trip!) The Magic Spotter flag was the best investment, hardly anyone had them so it was easy to instantly spot our stroller anywhere we left it, even if it got moved. That said, I definitely didn't want to spend a lot on a stroller we were really only buying for this one trip, so I got a used Joovy Caboose on Facebook Marketplace for $50. It was very hard to handle with two older kids in it, and even with one it was hard to handle unless the kid was in the back seat. So we basically used it like a single stroller, glad I didn't spend a lot on it since it was so hard to drive!
ā˜”WEATHERā˜”
-- We had mostly great weather, it rained some every day except Magic Kingdom day but it passed within an hour each time. We wore socks with Crocs so that if/when it rained, we could just take our wet socks off and walk in our Crocs, this worked great! Don't trust the weather reports though, two days it wasn't supposed to rain. One day it actually didn't, the other day it did and we had to walk in wet shoes because we didn't wear the Crocs that day. Just figure it might rain any day and be prepared! See above note RE: ponchos being not great and shelter + umbrellas being better. When it didn't rain, It. Was. Hot. šŸ„µ In the 90s but definitely felt hotter with the humidity making it so sticky. We felt there was plenty of shade at Animal Kingdom and EPCOT, but hardly any at Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios, which I would say slightly affected how much fun we had on those days comparatively.
Phew! That's about it, let me know if you have any questions!

2024.05.18 12:21 TealestRainbow07 Is there a polite way to ask to use someoneā€™s streaming service?

Hi, Im a young college student, and sometimes I babysit for my aunt (momā€™s sorority sister). She has two kids, both under 8, and she pays me pretty well since I usually babysit 8pm-1am.
Typically I find my shows and movies online, but thereā€™s one problem I have. I LOVE Ghibli movies, but unless I buy the DVD itā€™s really hard to find an English Dub with the matching subtitles. This sucks for me because I donā€™t follow along well when shows and movies have no or bad subtitles (probably due to my ADHD or something else like that).
My aunt has Ghibli movies with the good subs on one of her platforms but I didnā€™t know if it would be rude to ask if she could log me in on my computer or phone. I wouldnā€™t be offended if she said no but I donā€™t want her to start disliking me since I love babysitting my cousins (theyā€™re angels) and the money is super helpful.
Is there a good way to go about asking? Should I just dip into my ā€œfun stuffā€ allowance and buy the DVDs? Am I being crazy for worrying over this? I donā€™t have the money for a subscription like that even with student discount since I pay for my dogs vet bills, my car, and my phone

2024.05.18 00:42 RayeKasai Vacations and spontaneous purchases

Background: I decluttered my media collection a few years ago which included DVDs, Blu-rays, and comics. One piece of advised that I really took to heart from this sub is that you cannot begin to accumulate once youā€™ve worked so hard to declutter. I recently parted with a rather rare and pricey DVD set that I thought Iā€™d keep forever. Honestly, it was a good weight off my shoulders. Included in my declutter were a bunch of random items I accumulated over the years from trips that no longer had any sentimental value to me.
Iā€™ve been on several trips since then and almost everything I buy is practical or necessary like a new pair of shoes to replace my worn down pair (because theyā€™re much cheaper in Japan) or food items to bring back home. My vacation allowance goes mostly towards experiences and good food. I used to buy trinkets like a paperweight of the Space Needle or a shirt with the words ā€œLake Tahoeā€ on it. Now when I peruse through gift shops, I just look and have no desire to make any spontaneous purchases. People joke at how empty my suitcase is by the end of the trip. If I buy anything, itā€™s usually researched and planned.
Iā€™ve been trying to influence my girlfriend who only recently began decluttering. We keep saying, ā€œThe old me would have bought thisā€ when looking at something during our travels that definitely looks nice but would just end up as a dust collector.

2024.05.17 03:18 neko_courtney Cheap DVD bins?

I was at Walmart a while ago and they had a giant bin of cheap DVDs. My husband and I were looking forward to buying some surprise DVDs (stick your hand in, buy whatever you pull out) for the camper for the weekend but they got rid of the bin. Has anyone seen anything like this elsewhere? Thanks in advance!
