2024.05.21 19:52 trippinonvibes i thought i’d gotten better, i was wrong.

i (20f) have had a long past few years. i’ve fought with severe depression with suicidal ideation for the greater part of the pst decade. the past couple years have been really hard for me, ending with me finding solace in drugs. last year i spent every day high out of my mind with my friends, mostly just weed, mdma, acid, and ket. (acid and ket were probably my vices and i even though it’s really not usual to get addicted to acid my friends and i would argue that we showed a lot of the typical signs of addiction/dependancy for it) we pretty much abused everything we could get our hands on.
throughout the year i lost my job, one day i just stopped showing up and i never went back (an asshole move to make i know) and i ruined almost all the friendships i had. by my birthday in october i had virtually nothing except my family and their support.
for the year i spent nearly every day with two other girls, they were my best friends. our relationship was good but over time it got shaky, especially when we weren’t high.
in june i had a spiritual journey of sorts, i did a lot of stupid things, things that im honestly suprised i walked away from alive, apparently i must have some mad guardian angel working overtime watching me. but during that time i ended up pinky promising a stranger that i wouldn’t kill myself, the topic came up randomly and he made me promise i wouldn’t. and somehow that worked, i began telling myself i couldn’t do it because you can’t break a pinky promise and slowly i started working on my mental health and got to the point where i started to want to live again.
and with that i also started to feel better, i was happier with myself and i wasn’t having depression episodes anymore so i (foolishly) thought that i must have gotten better. until one week all the feelings that id been running from hit me, (it was probably pms that brought them out but i was a wreck anyway) and i didn’t know how to handle them because id ignored all the bad things for so long. so i tried asking one of my best friends for help, i think i asked her wrong. i messed things up and she said wasn’t in the right frame to talk to me and then never spoke to me again.
i went sober nearly immediately after that, i quit everything cold turkey and haven’t touched them again for around six months. i ended up having a whole “bella swan in new moon” depression moment where i sat on the couch all day every day for a few months until my dad started to get me out the house again, my dad pulled me out of that and became my anchor.
now im here and im so mentally exhausted, i haven’t found a new job yet, honestly im too scared of how ill react when i start getting paychecks coming back in because i know i have no self control and i still have every impulse to get high again. i had to close a fictional book the other day because i was insanely jealous that they were smoking weed and i cant.
i dont know what’s next, i dont know how to process the year i just had, i am back in a depressive episode and everything is making me so emotional and i feel like im suffocating. everyone is expecting things from me but im still stuck in the past, i just dont know how to live.

2024.05.21 15:48 ihopethisworksfornow Best Allies? Worst Allies?

What are the best allies in your opinion? Can be your personal favorite, or the one with the best perks.
I really don’t have a lot, I stopped playing a few months after wastelanders and just recently came back when the show released, so I missed a lot.
From the ones I’ve met, I have two favorites.
1.) Katherine Swan really grew on me hard. I purchased her from the atom shop because her daily power (+1P, -50% energy ammo weight that stacks with Batteries included), and because she sells really good junk.
Initially she really annoyed me though, like personality wise.
Now, love her. I asked her about alien abductions and she told me that if it did happen, with her brains and my ingenuity we would be able to overpower our captors, take over the ship, and explore the galaxy.
Sign me the fuck up lady. Also when you ask her about why she studied astronomy, and recites “When I Heard the Learn’d Astronomer”, just a very beautiful little monologue she gives.
From there I saw her in a whole new light. Headstrong and smart character who doesn’t give a fuck and is absolutely down to scrap if it comes to it.
“The other day, some scavver called me "Toots." What does that even mean? I didn't even know how to respond.”
2.) Raider Punk. Maybe it’s nostalgia but he’s just my original homie, you know what I mean. Dude was in my camp day one of wastelanders.
He’s just got a pretty chill personality, gives you occasional quests, hangs out. I have a base on the hill near the ice cream parlor and orchard in the forest, with a watchtower he lives in, and he just fits with that setting so well.
Honorable mention: Settler Forager has some of the funniest voice lines in the entire game.
“Licorice tastes better now. You know, after the bombs.”

2024.05.20 22:54 That_Sleep_7146 I don't even know where the heck the idea of Bella Swan having a skater guy friend in Arizona came from...? (Mandela effect from alternative universe??)

So, i had this belief for many years, or atleast just something in my mind that i was convinced it was surely to be true but, for the life of me... I remember circa 2016 where i was talking to a cousin, hanging out, she invited me to do a movie marathon (we where at her house, in her room, on her bed with our twilight books I had taken mine out from my closet in the box where they had been stored for the last foufive years or so) and she was telling me about Bella's friends in the books vs the movies (who was the best, Angela, who was the worst, Jessica, Lauren ect) comparing the adaptations, ect, and i remember explicitly telling her out of the blue, so sure of myself "Oh, yeah, like that skater boy Bella hanged out with back in Arizona in the first one, it's strange that she doesn't write him emails like she does her mom, he seemed like a good friend for her" and let me tell you, i remember my cousin giving me this look of "Girl, ¿who?" and then i told her, "You know, the skinny boy that hanged out with bella doing tricks with his board at the curve of the neighborhood Bella lived in, the one she met in gym class..?" And she was like.. "Lo, Bella had no friends at school or out of it in Arizona, not in the books not in the movies.." and i was like. "Yeah, she did.." utterly convinced and then it took us a whole day to read the first book to prove me and my mind that there was in fact NO male skateboarder friend back at Phoenix, where did that come from??? I don't know..so, was i crazy or..? because i was sooo damned sure, like convinced to the max that Bella had a skater friend whom she hanged out with at sundown sitting on the curve of the culdesac to talk with.

2024.05.19 20:54 ambieanne Twilight-core Brandy lookbook

Twilight-core Brandy lookbook
Guess who’s procrastinating again!! Idk what inspired me to do this, but as a lifelong twilight book and movie fan who literally grew up in the Pacific Northwest with my dad due to a custody arrangement… I’d consider myself an expert. I don’t have a ton of earth toned stuff and I was kind of in a hurry so this could’ve been better but oh well!! The bonus pic at the end is me in a brandy fit on my birthday trip to Forks last year! I had just gotten back into it again.
In doing this I thought long and hard about who in the Twilight universe would wear Brandy. Certainly not Ms. practical Bella Marie Swan-Cullen. I don’t think she’d wear it even if she found it at the thrift store, but she would definitely get her picture taken by an employee and inspire the brand’s aesthetic. They already sell a floor-length khaki cargo skirt for fucks sake!!!
Alice probably shops at free people and Anthropologie when she’s not wearing designer, and Rosalie literally wouldn’t be caught dead wearing Brandy. It’s far too inexpensive. Angela might, but I’m leaning towards no.
That just leaves Jessica, and I think she would absolutely wear Brandy. She would also post Brandy collections on Depop with no intention of selling any of it back when that was a thing. She’d also make her mom driver her to Seattle on the weekends to get a massive haul and then stunt on all of Forks High School come Monday- because she’s SUCH a downtown girl. I have to go be productive now but I’ll try to upload an image with item names later tonight.
(Quick last note- I 100% understand where people are coming from with the inevitable overconsumption comments. However this is just a snapshot of my wardrobe which I assure y’all is no bigger than the average person’s. I’ve been collecting Brandy stuff on and off for 10 years and currently around half of it was obtained secondhand. I sell or donate all clothes once I’m done with them for the next person to enjoy.)

Bill would love Bella for her humanity, kindness, selflessness and courage. I could see Bill falling for Bella Swan.

2024.05.13 02:26 Tetrachrome I tallied up the amount of time HSR uses visual-novel style sequences in ALL of its story patches (and found Penacony uses it way more)

In light of recent discussions regarding the delivery of story in Penacony and how HSR is akin to a “visual novel” with narration, I thought it would be interesting to investigate how much of HSR’s story delivery actually takes place in a narrated visual novel style, since the game does feature that type of delivery, and whether or not Penacony has made any significant changes on this front. I'm tallying these because these tend to be the least interactive sequences to look at visually, leading to a heavily expository feel to the scene.
The scenes I consider a "narrated visual novel" sequence:

What I do not count as a "VN" sequence:
I’m only counting the times VN-style scenes are used in the main story quests of each patch and not any side quests, companion quests, events, or Simulated Universe.

THE TL;DR AND OVERALL CONCLUSION:

Penacony 2.1 and 2.2 has significantly more VN sequences, overwhelmingly so. I have provided a chart below depicting the number of seconds spent in VN sequences over the course of the patches. Penacony 2.2 alone has 4271 seconds (1hr 11min 11sec) of VN screentime, which eclipses that of all previous patches combined. Penacony 2.0+2.1+2.2 features 6237 seconds of VN screentime (1hr 43mins 57sec), which is 3.92x that of 1.X's VN scene usage (1590 seconds). Penacony also has more individual instances of VN segments, totaling to 27 scenes in 2.0-2.2, which is more instances than all of 1.X (18 scenes in 1.0-1.6).

However, Penacony is also a much longer story, naturally leading to more dialogue and cutscene time than in previous patches. There aren't many ways to correct for this exactly to see proportionally how long is spent in VNs, nor easily done as it would involve parsing every instance of voiced dialogue or cutscene-equivalent in the main story. If we were to take some rough numbers though, Penacony Acts 2 and 3 are roughly 10 hours long in total playtime if just doing the story, with ~1 hour 43 minutes spent in VN sequences. This equates to roughly ~17% of the runtime being visual novel narration in the past 2 patches, which is fairly significant. By comparison, all of 1.0 content (Herta Station, Belobog, Luofu Act 1) would take roughly ~15 hours to complete if ignoring side content and SU and events, with only ~17 minutes of VN time, leading to only ~1.8% of the time spent in VN sequences.
In conclusion, Penacony definitely exhibits more visual novel style than the previous patches based on the amount of time spent in visual novel-styled sequences. Moreover, the VN style variety in Penacony is more limited than in previous patches, featuring largely still shots with some particle animations and no animations in the scene actors (see my breakdown below). This leads to Penacony’s VN style feeling more static than in previous patches, with a heavier emphasis on the narration rather than the visual presentation in these types of scenes.

The Breakdown

Ok so now for the breakdown. For all this “research,” I’ve used the HSR playthrough videos by the youtube channel Rubhen925, which have cutscenes on autoplay and thus pretty good consistency in cutscene timing behavior. I have also included linked time stamps for the start of these VN sequences in the respective playthrough videos in case people want to take a closer look. I’ve also included a brief note about each VN, as there is some variation in the artstyle of these pre-drawn VN sequences.
I’ll put a disclaimer here and say that I may have missed one or two sequences, as I sifted through the footage watching the videos at 2x speed and skipping through sequences of combat or active gameplay, so there is a margin of error here. With that being said, here is the detailed breakdown, with the total time count in each header:
1.0 Herta Space Station Main Arc – 0 minutes
1.0 Belobog Main Arc – 12 minutes, 48 seconds
1.0-1.3 Xianzhou Luofu Main Arc – 4 minutes, 15 seconds
1.4 Topaz Belobog Arc – 4 minutes, 46 seconds
1.5 Huohuo and spooky Luofu arc – 2 minutes, 13 seconds
1.6 Ruan Mei and Dr. Ratio Herta Space Station arcs – 2 minutes, 28 seconds
2.0 Penacony Act 1 – 2 minutes, 12 seconds
2.1 Penacony Act 2 – 30 minutes, 34 seconds
2.2 Penacony Act 3 – 1 hour, 11 minutes, 11 seconds

Afterword

I spent way too much time on this but it was also entertaining rewatching old story :)
Edit: idk why it shows a youtube embed, reddit is weird :/
