2024.05.22 03:17 Liratikah Let's talk about the spinning attack

Before TOTK cames out I decided to speedrun BOTW (even tho I died a lot lol) to getting used to game controls again and try to learn new mechanics and tricks to be ready for TOTK. I always loved the spin attack which is an iconic Link's attack in every Zelda games and used to use it a lot with jump attacks (when Link jump and draw his sword vertically) it was fast and efficient in older Zelda games. When BOTW cames out It was cool that the devs give the ability to disarm and send weaks opponents tumbling (well it was already the case in older game too but more highlighted in BOTW). Against BOSS you could do sick plays by attacking 3 times and spin attack to resets your attacks partern as the 4 attack strike takes longer to be executed (speedrunners were insane for that and were very entertaining to watch) same for walking guardian with 6 legs very effective we can say that in BOTW the spinning attack had his uses and refreshing in combat gameplay.
In TOTK the spinning attack got hit by the devs as you can spam less than in BOTW (about a spin every 0,5 seconds with the joystick in BOTW to 1 second in TOTK I don't have the correct values but it's very noticeable) which means that you are more vulnerable (you can cancel mid animation by dodging but the left and right are more effective as side jumps take less time to do than backflips) I don't know why it was nerfed as I've never considered that it was particulary strong since most of the combat gameplay is making perfect dodges and rewards players with flury rushes it just remove combos and make stamina less interesting in one handed weapons combat system.
I'm really surprised that nobody talked about that's the first thing I've noticed against bats in the early game. Do you still uses spinning attacks ? It still has it uses and nice mechanics ofc but less than in BOTW especially against boss they are harder to pull off and less effective.
TOTK is a great game with a lot of things to do I really liked that the enemies (especially Bokoblins feels more alive than in BOTW they can harvest plants and had like a bag to storage them this is very nice and feels very tribal with everyone having their roles for the good of all in their tribe. Thanks for reading haha.

2024.05.22 02:54 RichRuzz 36/PC/EST Looking for varied game suggestions, co-op experiences, and solid humor.

I've posted here to moderate success over the years and trying to ideally grab some cool people who are into all different genres of gaming that I can find cool games and suggestions from and/or play with in near future or currently. Only caveat I'm in/out of getting a bunch of surgery from old sports injuries and my profession so it's been a learning experience navigating gaming and trying to maintain gaming friendships during such since it's hit or miss on my pain levels and recoveries.
I have over a thousand Steam games and I play pretty much everything! (except sports games probably) Could be anything from Stardew/Roots of Pacha (Waiting on next update), FO76, Phasmophobia/Forewarned, Book of Travels (looking to get into playing again), Golf with your Friends, A Hat in Time, Helldivers 2, Ground Branch, Ready or Not, Sky Children of Light, Secret of Grindea (really looking forward to playing this after YEARS of early access it's like Zelda) and pretty much a TON of different games from Day Z, to Star Citizen to competitive, to co-op just to give ideas.
All I ask is able to communicate, have a solid sense of humooptimism, and not looking to just add people to have them sit on my friends list either and never speak to them again lol. Other than that wish you all the best in your searches, and any relevant gamer homies hit me up at RichRuzz on Steam, Discord, or PM me here as well I guess.
Have a great week!

2024.05.22 02:30 FailedState0 Ocarina of time save issue

Every time I make a save file on my Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of time and then reset, turn off, or remove the cartrage, the data is erased. Usually, it happens at random, whether I remove the cartrage or turn off the console. I've read other posts regarding this matter, but is there a more straightforward approach? without needing to swap out the entire cartrage or the battery?

2024.05.22 02:19 sombraking25 Deleted all my games 2 days ago

And found this sub.
I deleted my Emulators and roms as well. All the save files for those gone.
I'll still have my PC library, but I Uninstalled all the games I had on my gaming rig.
I did it because I was tired of always being told all I do is play games and don't take care of my responsibilities. I was tired of disappointing the few people who've given way more to me than they have any right to.
I feel like shit, because this has happened to me once before through no fault of my own when my hard drive crashed and I lost everything.
This time, I just did it. I told the people that care I'll delete them all right now. And I did.
I'm annoyed, but only because I'd just gotten some new games that I was into, but this will pass.
I guess I need to find something else to do instead.

Hi,
Cutting back on collecting and I’m selling a bunch of games! Not everything is pictured here so let me know if you need pics of an item.
I prefer PayPal friends and Family. I have many confirmed trades here.
I’m happy to provide pics for any items and detailed condition descriptions.
Shipping is free over $25, or $4 per item. (Shipping is only within the United States. No international shipping unless you are willing to pay the exact cost of shipping)
There is always room for negotiation, prices are based on market value, but there is wiggle room if you buy more than one game.
I’m also looking to buy Game Boy (DMG) loose

2024.05.22 01:57 ZealousidealCover686 Nintendo Switch Has Me Confused

So today I booted up my switch (like the 2nd time I’ve ever played it) and i made sure I was on my account and I loaded up Zelda and I didn’t have any of my progress? I had originally played Zelda on my sisters switch then I recently got one and decided to try playing where I left off on my save and I didn’t have a save or nothing.

2024.05.22 01:43 SwitchMarv 21M looking for someone that shares some of my interests.

Hey! I'm looking for someone that shares my interests in gaming, anime and custom keyboards. I'm currently playing Ghost of Tsushima for the first time on PC and I'm also playing Overwatch and Fortnite. My favorite games are Elden Ring ,Zelda totk and modded Minecraft. As for anime my interest are all over the place. I'm mostly watching seasonals and not much more since I always end up choosing too much of them but I do fit some stuff inbetween. If you want to, I can send you a link to my anime list. If any of that sounded like something you're also interested in then feel free to shoot me a message.

2024.05.22 01:01 klownbonnie1 A confusing thing I’ve noticed while collecting

I haven’t been collecting long at all. Roughly 2 years, which is a fraction of the time most people in this hobby has been collecting. Recently I’ve noticed this weird trend with pricing.
I’m not here to complain about pricing or anything. I know that’s a tired complaint in these circles.
Usually, it’s far cheaper to collect locally then buy online for these types of hobbies. Funkos, trading cards, you name it. Usually it’s always cheaper to buy from Facebook Marketplace or Goodwill. You may not always get the best condition, but usually buying locally is far cheaper than eBay or Mercari.
However, the past year, everything I find locally is twice if not more than you can buy it from eBay with shipping included.
I found Super Mario Land 2 for the Gameboy is pretty beat up condition for $55 and Michael Jackson on the Wii for $60 at Goodwill the other day. Video game stores up-charge a good 20% on even the cheap, unwanted license crap. I found Shrek 4 on the Wii at a local game store for $35. I found someone selling tons of used games on Facebook and for most of their stock they were charging an extra $10-$15. (The worst being Zelda Link To The Past for $65) On the games I found to be fairly priced, I wanted 18 of them. I asked if he’d offer a discount since I’m buying quite a few and he said no. I still bought a few from him, but still.
I’m genuinely not upset or anything. Collecting for me is about patience and trying to find the best deals. Finding a game you’ve been hunting for at a good bargain is the best feeling in this hobby. I just find it so odd. Do these games even sell for those prices? Do people not do research on the items they’re buying? Or do they prefer to pay twice as much to have the item now instead of waiting for shipping?

2024.05.22 00:54 Pastorof_Disaster [USA-NY][H] Philips Hue HDMI Sync Box and Light Bar kit, Retroid Pocket 2, Google Nest Thermostat, Sennheiser PC37X Headset [W] Paypal or Trade

Howdy!
Timestamps
Local to 10032 (North Harlem/Hamilton Heights/Sugar Hill)
Local is preferred and will be discounted 10%
Feel free to comment or DM any questions.
For Trade, my partner's apple watch 4 has been dying on her throughout the day so if anyone has a newer than the 4 apple watch in a smaller face size, I would be interested in trading for that.
Item Price Available Info
Philips Hue HDMI Sync Box and 2 Play Bar Lights $175 shipped 1 Purchased new in March 2021. Used with an LG C8 tv and various HDMI devices. It works pretty well and is nice and responsive, but it is HDMI 2.0 and not 2.1 so there is some bandwidth issues with running dolby vision + atmos. With my C8 it would sometimes introduce some audio lag, but I got around that by hooking the output of this device directly to my soundbar then the soundbar would pass video to the tv. If you have any specific usecases you want to check, feel free to message me and I can help point you in the right direction. I spent a lot of time tinkering with it so I probably have an answer.
Retroid Pocket 2 (not 2S) $40 shipped 1 I just replaced it with a retroid pocket 4. Honestly love this little handheld and if it was just a bit more powerful, I wouldn't have replaced it. I mainly used it as a pokemon/zelda device playing everything from gameboy to nintendo DS without many issues. NDS is the cap for this guy power-wise. I was able to play through all of pokemon black 2 fairly well. Had a few slow downs or audio skips here and there, but very playable. Awesome little retro gaming device.
Google Nest Thermostat $75 shipped 1 Moved into an apartment that already had a nest installed. It has been sitting in the closet for a bit, but no issues with the device will come with the wall panel as shown.
Sennheiser PC37X Massdrop Closed Back headset $70 shipped 1 Like new, used only a handful of times. I found I am not a big fan of the closed back headset and went back to an open back pair. Will come in the box of another headset, but will include all original cables.
And as always, DON'T GET ELIMINATED!!!

2024.05.22 00:35 Temporary-Cherry2928 MPFL Reconstruction Recovery

I’m 5 weeks post op from an MPFL reconstruction and the recovery has been much harder than expected. I’m particularly struggling with ROM and still haven’t hit 90 degrees in PT (last measurement was around 70). Im so stiff all the time, get random pangs of pain, and am overall just feeling really defeated, as I was a pretty active person before the surgery. Im worried I’m falling behind, does anyone have insight on this kind of recovery or suggestions of how to get through it?

2024.05.22 00:30 Zardnaar PT vs ST Hate. The Difference

45M saw the midnight screening of TPM in NZ 1999.
Online now there's been a debate around the PT hate vs ST. I was there and the reception was different vs now along with environment online.
Biggest difference is social media didn't exist as such (unless you count forums).
So in 1999 what were we doing Star Wars related? Well our group was playing Rebellion and Rogue Leader (N64 game). Somewhat recently Shadows of the Empire. They lined up for tickets I managed to score some midnight screening ones.
We didn't hate TPM. The disappointment was very real though.
The 90s were kinda rough n NZ. Our group was a mixture of welfare kids through to reasonably well off kids. We consumed a lot of what is now legends material. Games and books mostly. Comics were a bit harder to aquire in my part of NZ.
Internet was a lot less common back then no social media. A computer was around $2000 nzd in the 90s rent was cheap say $40-60 per week circa 1996-1999. I don't remember the conversion rate to usd minimum wage was around $6-8.
Buying a PC though was 6-12 months rent. I didn't own one in 1999 first used the internet 1996 to give you an idea.
I watched TPM disappointment was real but I didn't go online and slag it off. I wasn't online. There was also sobe really bad Star Wars media by tgen so it was far from the worst. That applies to Disney Star Wars now as well.
None of our group hated TPM anyway and we formed our own opinions. And those opinions were mostly self contained. Idk if there was online hate in 1999 but if there was it was easy to miss. Even if you had a PC an the net it as dial up. And you would gave to go Join a forum. 1999 was also the first year I saw a text message.
Fast forward a few years. 2001 was the first year I joined a forum. It was a D&D one but they gad another section for Star Wars RPG. My first discussions around Star Wars online were about the d20 and older D6 material. The D6 material was massively influential in early Legends material after Heir to the Empire. No one got to offended if you didn't like TPM but I don't recall people constantly dumping on it. Not saying it didn't happen but it was easy enough to miss.
Interdiction cruisers in Rebels. They are from legends and they got it from said D6 RPG materials.
Fast forward a few more ears and RotS has been released. Generally people online seemed to like that one (cf RoS). Not claiming it was universally loved but a common attitude seemed to be the PT was a bit meh except for Pt III. Once again social media didn't really exist or was in its infancy around 2005/6.
It was also a golden age for Star Wars games 2002-2008 although you could also claim 1997-2010 ymmv of course. Even if the movies were not loved there was plenty of other media to distract you. Once again there wasn't a lot of hate directed at the movies at the time. Not everyone loved them of course but the negativity was more disappointment, wish they were better, at least pt III was good.
And then social media blew up. I don't remember Twitter before 2012 and I think I used youtube for the first time 2010 late adopter.
So that's the key difference between then and now IME. Social media didn't exist, less people were online. Those that were more segregated into their own communities on forums. Most people didn't use forums or even knew what they were.
I did see my 1st meme in 1996 or 97 comparing a politician to the Nazis. Godwins law 1997.
So I'm Gen X turning into my parents lol. Never used a dating site haven't been single since 2000 and barely single since 1996. No idea where to even start if I was.
But the rise of social media has resulted in a lot of anger and confusion and flow on effects I have noticed. Another simple example is dating and expectations due to tinder and porn. Younger female friends or relatives putting pressure on themselves and guys completely clueless. We just had to deal with things like playboy. I'll admit to reading them but stopped aged 16 when one realized that girl you like probably doesn't like them.
Modern world is better in some ways worse in others compared with the 90s.

2024.05.22 00:09 Gl33p Short Explanation of How to Get PSXONPSP660.bin Working Properly on Miyoo Mini Plus/Onion OS

I kinda had a bad time with this, and thought I could offer a more direct resource for anyone else trying to get PCSX - ReARMed to detect the PSXONPSP660.bin bios.
I suspect most people are like me, and didn't realize they were supposed to have an updated official bios installed when running PSX - ReARMed. Now a whole can of worms has opened, because GameSwitcher has sorta poisoned your setup, by generating save states bound to the HLE BIOS by the time you saw this message.
So, while it is indeed as simple as dropping the bios into the BIOS folder, there are a couple things that need to happen first, and gameswitcher is going to be kind of an annoyance here.
So, the first thing you need to know, is that the save states, and saves are associated with the default HLE bios. Despite the fact that you have placed the BIOS file in the correct directory, the game will still load with the fallback HLE bios EVEN IF YOU RESET THE GAME.
First of all, I recommend downloading the file explorer from the package manager before you begin anything.
1.) Download PSXONPSP660.BIN bios from it's github.
2.) Rename PSXONPSP660.BIN to PSXONPSP660.bin (lowercase 'bin').
3.) Place PSXONPSP660.bin in the /BIOS directory at the root of your SD card
NOTICE
Gameswitcher is a headache now, because if you boot into the game, it automatically defaults to it's save states that are associated with the HLE BIOS. Yes, even if you reset the game. So we need to do some cleanup for any game that you wish to use with the new bios.
WARNING!
Proceeding with this next step is necessary to get the new bios working with any game you have previously played with the default HLE BIOS. We have to delete those save states and you WILL LOSE ANY PROGRESS made on the HLE BIOS.
4a.) It is possible that the saves will still work, so we will leave them for last, and start with the save states. From root go to /Saves/CurrentProfile/states/PCSX-ReARMed/
4b.) Inside this directory you will see all of the save states GameSwitcher has generated associated with your games. Find the game you intend to play with the new bios, and delete it's save state.
5.) Once finished deleting save states, exit file explorer. For good measure, Hover over 'Games' in the Home screen, press Select, and 'Refresh all roms'.
6.) Turn off device.
7.) Restart device.
8.) Try to start game. If you receive the bios compatibility warning again, you unfortunately have to axe everything. Also GameSwitcher became involved again, and has regenerated save states associated with the HLE bios for that game...essentially undoing everything we have done, but it was worth doing to see if your saves could be recovered, right?
Go into file explorer and perform steps 4a-4b again and move to step 9.
9.) From root go to /Saves/CurrentProfile/saves/PCSX-ReARMed/
10.) Find your game in the list, and delete it's save file
11.) Follow steps 5-7 again.
Your game is no longer associated with any save states or saves that are associated with the HLE bios. You are good to go, and running on the proper bios version to date.
You will know it worked, once you boot the game and the bios compatibility notice no longer appears.

2024.05.21 23:37 darwhyte First computer

I was a little late to the game, didn't get my first computer until 2002.
I was 36 at the time, and up until that point in my life I had never used one at my work, (I started working in the 80s), and I managed to make it all the way until 2004 with having jobs that didn't require use of a computer or knowledge HOW to use one.
When I got that first computer, barely knew how to turn it on! My GenX education back in the 70s/early 80s included no computer curriculum whatsoever, so when I got that first one, I was clueless how to use it, and learned as I went.
I had dialup internet, and when I first started using my computer I was scared about accidentally screwing up my computer from something in the internet, or that I would hit one wrong button on the keyboard and destroy the whole thing!
My first computer was an IBM with Windows XP, 128M of RAM, 1.1 GHz Celeron processor, CD ROM, floppy drive, 2 usb ports and a 40 GB hard drive.
Who remembers their first computer, its specs, and did you struggle to learn how to use it?

My issues with Link vs Tarnished

Note to keep in mind:
This is not a debunk, nor is it meant to say “I hate this matchup and you should too!”. I know this community has had an issue with debunks and I unfortunately decided to make this at a time where people are getting sick of debunks. So let me just say this is all my opinion, and that what I say is not meant to kill this matchup or debunk it. If you want to enjoy it despite what I say, all power to you. I am entitled to my opinion as much as anyone else is to theirs.
And now onto the main event and I will be talking about this with one part at a time. With the first being connections/thematics.
Part 1: The flimsy connections
Here are the most up to date and recent connections I could find. If there are better ones that I should use instead of this then feel free to tell me.
  • Heroic medieval silent fantasy protagonists of critically acclaimed massive open-world action RPG video games.
  • Both have very little memory of their pasts because of their amnesia, making their pasts all the more mysterious.
  • Guided by a maiden to help them save a decaying world (Zelda and Ranni The Witch)
  • Masterfully skilled at horse riding and mounted combat.
  • Mainly known for being master swordsman despite having a massive arsenal of both melee weapons and ranged weapons
  • Possessed a set of unique supernatural abilities (Link's Sheikah Slate/Champion Powers, and The Tarnished's Sorceries and Incantations)
  • Both heroes would use their gifts and talents to heroically help a woman with divine powers usurp control from the previous rulers who ruined said world into their hands and start a new age (Link helping Zelda stop Calamity Ganon and if you count the Age of Stars ending as the canon ending, Tarnished helps free Ranni The Witch and able to end age of evil in the Lands Between)
Now let me just say first I don’t think these are inherently wrong. This isn’t meant to be a debunk but I am going to talk about my issues with these connections as well as other aspects of this mu.
And I think from this some of you might start to see the issue. The connections have a case of being either generic as hell or interesting but still iffy. I feel this matchup tries to take a quality over quantity approach and fails at that as these connections while they do work do not go into either character at all. It doesn’t cover any of Link’s character and his struggles, drawing him to be some blank slate of a character which could not be further from the truth. And it doesn't cover any aspect of Elden Ring’s frankly amazing story. The connections you can call solid come off as stretches once you know the series and the main issue is that this doesn't at all cover Tears of the Kingdom, this matchup mainly only goes into Botw and doesn't go deeper into either of their respective characters or worlds.
It really just feels like “Oh they sure do be amnesiac swordsmen in open world fantasy games” and while this works decently as a main theme it fails to add anything of quality onto it which just leaves the connections feeling dry, even ignoring the fact that it doesn't cover Totk. And I’ve heard people say shit like “it’ll get better once Shadow of the Erdtree comes out!” but that is a huge maybe at best. And if your argument is that the connections might get better once Shadow of the Erdtree comes out then that’s not so much an argument as it is praying the DLC adds to the connections.
Part 2: The fight potential doing too much or not enough
Now I know this’ll piss some people off but I see absolutely nothing special about this fight potential. Don’t get me wrong it’s not bad so much as it’s just painfully mediocre. There are admittedly some interesting things one could do with this, and they both have 3D models that can work kinda well even if they clash a bit in art style and quality. And this can be a decent clash of weapons with some variety in it. But it really starts to fall flat once you consider their greater abilities, how these two fight, and the very existence of Totk.
These two at a base level can fight in some similar ways, but the pace of which is vastly different. A lot of the stuff that happens in botw and totk can be described as fast paced with you constantly running around and traversing the battlefield in many unique ways. Elden Ring is a fucking soulslike game and as such does not match that same level of pace you see Link at.
There can be work arounds but it usually boils down to making Link fight at a slower pace or Tarnished at a faster pace. So it’s either making Link a lot less interesting or straight up misrepresenting Tarnished. Which leads me into my next point which is that I see no way you can make this fight fluid while including everything Link gains in totk. The constructs just simply cannot play well off of anything Tarnished has and it leaves so much to be desired. Tarnished is just not that mobile, at least not enough to create a fluid animation between these two.
There are a few ways I can see this matchup working and they all has issues of its own. Here are the most notable.
  1. I’ve heard people mention you just use botw. But not only is that effectively cucking Link of a lot of his arsenal as well as half of his fucking story. But it only also leads back into my point that all this can really accomplish is some decent sword fighting with occasional weapon switches. Not bad but insanely lacking as well as failing to do Link justice.
  2. If you do use totk however then this entire matchup just turns into “Link’s matchup and also Tarnished is there I guess” and that just completely kills this matchup for me as these two are very interesting and I love both their games but they just can’t play off each other that well at all. With constructs, fuse, and the sage abilities this just makes it seem like Tarnished doesn't matter here which kills the whole point of all these matchups.
  3. “Comp them!” No… why would anyone do that? That ruins the connections and while it does help fight wise, it also shares the same issues to #2 in that it’s just Link stealing the show with Tarnished not getting much. As apart from his original game what does Tarnished have that will help with animation?
Part 3: Lack of anything meaningful character wise
Now I know this may fall into interaction and story potential in which case I know what you're thinking “Mug they're silent protagonists, that's the whole point” in which case I just ask you all to hear me out. While yes neither really talk for their own respective reasons there are still interactions one can have with silent protagonists. And I think the best example of this is any version of Link. Link the majority of the time is a bit mischievous and playful despite being a hero with nearly every iteration of him. And this Link is honestly such a great character in my eyes. But this matchup throws that out the window by having the currently best written version of Link have nothing to bounce off of character wise. But I suppose that's not an issue with the matchups quality. Just extreme missed potential.
Along with that this might just be me but I see no interesting way a fight between the two could start. To have in character reasons to want to fight does help a matchup, especially if you want to make a script or if someone animates it. But with how this matchup is I just can't see any way this can start without it just being a misunderstanding or pulling what Weiss vs Mistsuru did and have it start mid fight. And this shares the same issue I have with the rest of the mu, yeah it can technically work, but if this isn't the most boring and uninspired shit then I don’t know what is.
Part 4: The conclusion to this shit. AKA This matchup isn’t bad but man it needs work.
Let me just quickly recap my overall points. This'll be a tldr for those who don't feel like reading allat.
  1. This matchups, connections while not wrong are so uninspired and feel dry as hell. They don’t take Tears of the Kingdom into account and the connections that are of quality can even be considered stretches.
  2. The fight doesn't do what I’d like for either and to create a fluid fight you’re effectively forced to only use botw which sucks as you not only are removing Link’s most interesting arsenal and gear but it just draws this up to be a sword fight just with some more weapons added in.
  3. The lack of interactions in one of the most interesting, and entertaining versions of Link there is.
Do I think this is a bad matchup? No I don't. But I can't pretend like this isn't an incredibly mediocre matchup that does nothing interesting with either characters. If you want a good Hero of the Wild matchup then Aang is right there. And if you want a good Tarnished matchup… Well unfortunately I have yet to find a Tarnished matchup that has good connections. But Dark Urge is there if you want some good fight potential that portrays Tarnished in a better light. Truthfully I don't think I'll ever truly like this but if the connections got a solid revamp that'd greatly help this matchup.
I don't really know how to end this as I don't usually write this kinda stuff. So just have a good day I guess.

2024.05.21 23:19 Minute_Afternoon_444 [ALL] how long does each of link’s journeys take?

So I was playing ALTTP again and noticed the game starts at night and turns day for the remainder which got me wondering.
How long does link actually spend on each adventure? Obviously the player can explore until they’re ready to finish but in terms of time how long do you think each link take on their respective journey?
eg we know MM is 3 day cycles, let’s say it’s 4 cycles to finish the 4 dungeons, 4 cycles to unlock the dungeons and explore termina, and the final day +1 day to reach termina factoring in slowdown from the song of time.
So that’s 26 days (roughly a month) for him to save termina, 7 years + however long in ocarina plus three days for the first cycle. Hero of time was really putting in a shift!
How long do you think each Zelda game canonically takes?
