2024.05.21 22:37 markyaeger Stainless vs Carbon observations
So I’ve been using Opinels for the better part of 20 years and have knives ranging from the 1970’s onward and I’ve noticed, consistently, that their stainless steel sharpens just as easily, holds an edge longer, and can actually get noticeably sharper than the carbon blades. Not only through my sharpening, but having them “professionally” sharpened as well. Use them for cooking, carving, heavy and light duty camping etc. and it’s always been the same. Haven’t had this with other brands or steel types, it’s usually the other way around.
Wondering if anyone else has noticed this?

2024.05.21 22:07 nonamebrand0 Sick of everything costing so much money
Just venting. After 7 months of no work and scrambling for literally pennies for bus fare, I finally got a job. But if course it's costs tons of money!
Bus fare is gonna be like $80 for the first few weeks til a check comes in.
Then they need a first aid course. Of course I have to pay for it. I do not have money for this . I had to grovel to my narcissist mother for help. After hours of unbearable communication with her, I eventually got signed up for it.
Only to find out they do not supply the mandatory pocket mask...fml! So again I'm scrambling to find one. Do they have it in store at Walmart or LD? Of course not. Now I've gotta pay to ride the bus for 2 hrs to go to a local supply store to find one.
I'm just exhausted.
Every single job is like this.im already underwater with all my bills it's gonna be like a month and a half to come out from under that, but these costs keep dinging me non stop.
Other jobs it's always something, like steel toe shoes or a fancy shirt for server, or some kind of specific uniform or something...
Ok end rant.

| It reminds me of one my mom bought long before I was born. ☺️ There’s no markings and it’s not magnetic. I’m assuming it’s stainless steel but I really have no idea, lol. What really caught my attention was that it has a clasp I’ve never seen before! 2024.05.21 21:28 SavetheCarbonUnits [article] WSJ article on watches- do retired people stop wearing Rolexes?
The wristwatch of his dreams
https://stocks.apple.com/Arq_eoKl_RcihpoxtepeLBg “It was back in day of wingtip shoes, white shirts and red ties,” says Bryan Desloge, who began his career at IBM in 1984. And like many rookie employees, Desloge wanted to fit in. “I bought suits. I took my earring out. I cut my hair and I registered in the Republican Party,” he says. To complete the look, he paid over $7,000 for the wristwatch of his dreams—a Rolex Submariner. It was a hefty sum, considering he was making roughly $18,000 a year.
N ow 64 and retired, Desloge says his younger self saw the stainless-steel watch as a status symbol. “The older guys had nice dress watches already, while I wore a Casio or a Timex.” Just two years after buying the Rolex, however, Desloge realized the timepiece was impractical for him. “The Rolex is great, but I don’t want to look at a clock face,” he says, “and the glow-in-the-dark hands are hard to read at night.”
Desloge, who lives in Tallahassee, Fla., recently tried to give the Rolex to his son, who turned him down. So it remains tucked away in favor of a Garmin smartwatch, which has a fitness tracker, alerts and email, among other features. Purchased for about $500, the Garmin can multitask in ways his Rolex cannot. “I will probably wear that watch for the rest of my life,” Desloge says.

2024.05.21 21:22 Abyssofmind Looking for stainless Steel replacement head for Razorock German 37 Slant, if it exists.
So about a year and a half ago I bought a Razorock German 37 slant to replace a lightweight old (vintage?) Gilette. I used it for about 4-5 months before I started growing my beard out for about a year. I'm looking forward to shave again, but noticed the thread of the alloy head is already showing some wear already.
I liked the weight of the handle (super knurl, 2.9 oz/82 grams) and the slant head as well. Is there a stainless steel replacement head that will fit the razorock, available in Europe?
Recommendations for a slant razor with steel head are welcome as well, although I'm not looking to invest $150 into a razor. Maybe the Merkur 39C? Although, the head of the Merkur 39C seems to be the same alloy/zinc type of metal as the Razorock

2024.05.21 21:19 anab7825 Tramontina Tri-ply Clas 12pc set- Costco (China Make)
| Hi All, We moved to a new house and I want to invest in a cookware set and dispose my old nonstick pans. Through my research I figured that stainless steel clad is a good option. I bought this set from Costco, Tramontina Tri Ply Clad 12pc for 160$. I received it today and the box says 'Made in China's I've read mixed reviews about the pots pans from China vs Brazil. Confused if I should return these. (The 8" skillet & 1.5qt sauce pan are too small for me to use, like the sizes of the others) I still felt 160$ for the others is a decent price. But the 'china' reviews I read briefly are concerning. Any personal experiences against the ones made in China? Suggestions on keep or return this set? Thanks in advance.! ❤️ submitted by anab7825 to cookware [link] [comments] |
2024.05.21 21:17 blitzalchemy Requesting help for mast/mounting setup
Current placement is not great for my current set up, the trees have grown in their leaves and it's causing me issues. I am currently looking into telescoping masts and mounting supplies but I'm on a tight budget at the moment.
The current options I have found: Adjustable Mast
https://www.dxengineering.com/parts/roh-h40 top diameter is 1.25" bottom 2"
Mast/dish adapter - Issue Im running into is that the smallest recommended mast size for most of these is 1.5" but the top diameter of the mast is 1.25" Hopefully a non-issue regardless
Option 1,
Option 2,
Option 3 Guy Line
Amazon Kit, otherwise im checking home depot or something
Mounting Plate - This will be mounted to a wooden deck for the time being
Option 1 Otherwise im having trouble finding something that would work for a 2" diameter without costing an arm and a leg because it ships from overseas. I also have a roof mounted satellite tripod that i may just try to make work on a flat deck.
Any help, input, or suggestions are greatly appreciated with this. Im trying to keep this as low cost as possible at the moment.

2024.05.21 21:16 Dramatic_Place_7830 Keloid or Piercing bump?
Hello! So it’s been a month since I got my nose pierced. The original jewelry I had in was stainless steel. It was the squiggly backing. My piercing was a bit irritated for the first 3 weeks. Now for about a week I’ve had this bump where my piercing is. Not sure if this is a keloid or piercing bump. What should I do to help it go away? I’ve been consistently using saline solution to clean it. I also just switched to a titanium piercing today bc I’m thinking the steel was causing me issues. First picture is how it looked a couple of days ago. The other pictures are from today without my jewelry. I will say that 2 days ago it was bleeding a lot and some puss was coming out.

2024.05.21 21:16 Mandariish Noob with electrical safety question
Main question: I've been working for a year and a half for a city in texas that has enforced only practical electrical safety measures. now they are starting to enforce NFPA 70E and while I know I should remove all metal as part of being electrically safe in preparation to do work I have a stainless steel bracelet that lives on my left wrist that is designed not to come off ever without ruining the thing. there is no clasp, it's just loose enough to get two fingers under, will break away if pulled, and is meant to serve the same function as a semicolon tattoo. (those that know know but I am intensely phobic of needles so a tattoo was out of the question) I'm going through the book to see if there is any way I can get away with keeping this bracelet on at all times but I'm an apprentice electrician. If anyone knows where I should be looking for an acceptable alternate way of making it safe I would really appreciate any help towards that goal.
Ps new guy rant: They are making an emphatic point of telling us that these rules are not the responsibility of the employer or management but the employee who is solely responsible for their own safety but they are also saying I don't have a choice in weather or not to follow them to the letter. (ex: can't keep the bracelet even though I am aware of and accept the responsibility for the risk it adds. Must wear cat II-iv gear for routine preventative maintenance all day in direct Texas sunlight even at peak temps even if it increases the risk of heat stress more than it reduces other risks) sounds to me like they are just setting up (me) the worker to take all negative consequences for incidents while they add cumbersome paperwork and gear then crack the whip and yell mush. I'd really like to look at it from another point of view if one of you experienced folk can explain like I'm 5 and help me see it....

2024.05.21 21:08 360inMotion Found this vintage rhinestone tennis bracelet today, no markings. I’ve never seen a clasp like this before?
I’m not expecting it to be worth anything, but I don’t know much about jewelry. I’m hoping someone can give me a ballpark figure on when it might have been made? Is it likely stainless steel? Thank you for looking.
