Early 1940s Roos Cedar Chest Flip
Picked up this chest from a lady who said it was her great grandmother’s originally, and then passed down through the family over the years. She had plans of fixing it up and never got around to it, ultimately selling it to me for just 75$. It was in pretty decent shape, but a lot of the veneer needed to be replaced and patched(see pics 5 and 7), as well as a lot of scratches and dents that needed to be filled(see pic 6). The entire thing took me about a week, working on it after my 9-5. Once everything was sanded and smooth I stained it in a walnut color, and then a matte poly finish. For the inside I just did a quick light sanding, and coated with cedar oil to bring back the cedar aroma. I’m quite happy with how it came out.

On Sunday we had some family and friends over and the driveway had 4 vehicles in it. My son tried to get his bike between the vehicles and scratched the hell out of my friends truck. He didn't say anything until I asked him about it on Monday. Thankfully the scratch buffed out...mostly.
I want to use this as a teaching opportunity, what can I do? I felt like making him pay some money out of his piggy bank because I've expressed several times how expensive scratches, dents and dings are on cars. How do I get it through to him that this kinda suff hurts us all? I need something that makes an impact, something he can remember.

I’m not entirely sure what to do, I bought a good condition DSi and the device that came had screen damage and the LCDs appear to be dying, and there’s scratches everywhere and dents.
I mentioned it to DKOldies and they’re offering to replace it. I’m not sure if I should take it or not because I wouldn’t be seeing the console and scared I’ll just get an even worse condition. So I come to ask: Would you get the replacement or just request for a refund if you were in my situation.
(Yes, I knew about the issues with DKOldies. But I was stupid and didn’t think.)

Hi, so I was an idiot today and accidentally backed into my mailbox.. we have narrow driveway with lots of cars so while avoiding the other parked cars I somehow managed to hit my mailbox, I know. Idiot. I have full coverage and it’s a 2021 330i. Should I just go through insurance and pay my $500 deductible or try to fix this out of pocket? The dent is pretty gnarly, it cracked my tail light and left some nasty ass scratches.
Also, since I have full coverage insurance, would they cover this? Thank you.

New car, noticed this?
Just got a dodge charger 20k miles. Before buying I did an in depth look at the car. Inside and out. I’ve had the car for less than a week. Today I came outside and noticed this mark on my hood that was not there before (looked at pictures from yesterday)
I cannot figure out what would have caused this. I thought somebody keyed my car but there isn’t any scratching in the passing. I closed the hood a few times gently, and did a self car wash yesterday but didn’t use the washer to close. When I run my fingers over the mark it doesn’t feel like a dent. Any ideas? And on how much to fix it?

So I work at target. I park in the employee section of the lot and my car has gotten hit twice now. I don’t know if I should ask to see security tapes or not. I’ll try to add pics in the comments but I don’t know if I can or not. But the thing is, it’s not huge problems, just more minor things like someone hitting my car with their car door. But it’s big enough where the entire side of my car is dented and scratched. But it’s only cosmetic damage. Do I ask to see security footage of the parking lot?

Hey yall, I got the opportunity to buy a 2018 cbr600rr dirt cheap basically $3000. Guys got the title but missing the keys and it's been sitting for about 3 years, inside its been sitting outside for a few months uncovered recently. Obviously it'll need fluids gone over and replaced and the battery changed and new chain, ignition and gas cap. I was wondering what else should I be looking for that would need replaced or fixed? This will be my first street bike, I've rode them before and just never had an opportunity fall in my lap like this. The guy it's a coworker of my friend and just recently had a baby so he's not go plans or sight of fixing it, riding it, or anything and wants it gone haha. There's not a dent or scratch on it. Unsure of the mileage but as I said, it's been sitting. I definitely plan to have it serviced at a honda dealer and gone over by the "professionals"

Hi everyone so I passed my test nearly 2 weeks ago, was doing absolutely fine been practising in my own car doing small trips. I decided to bite the bullet and go further to the next town over and ended up hitting a lorry🤦🏻‍♀️ everyone was fine, lorry had no damage but my car had to spend a few days at the body shop due to quite bad dents/scratches.
Now, I have severe driving anxiety🫣 I’m always so paranoid I’m going to hit something, I’m too close to something ect and I just generally don’t want to drive. How can I get over this? I really want to be out and enjoying my car but I’m too scared to drive it😬

⚠️ Lengthy post incoming ⚠️
Last week I rented a car from rentnow leasing after passing my TP. I don’t see a lot of review/experience for this rental company so I thought I’d share mine here.
I actually first heard about them from carousell and after reading a lot of reviews, I decided to message them on carousell. One of their agent(?) Andy, told me to contact him on WhatsApp.
Andy’s replies were fast even when it’s late at night. Asked him a few things like what are their rates, how much is the deposit.
I was actually supposed to rent a Mazda 3 but since I’m renting for a day, I wanted to collect the car as early as possible. Andy told me Mazda 3 return time is a bit late, so he suggested Honda Fit instead for the same price.
I also told him I prefer not to make a deposit and he said they have cars that don’t require deposit so that’s a plus for me.
Breakdown of the price:
Rental duration: 1 day (24 hr)
Price (no deposit required): $85
CDW (excess $1500): $5
Total: $90
Collection of the car:
One day before the collection date, Andy whatsapped me the time that I can collect the car. I went to their office at 11am and waited for their staff to print the contract(?) for me.
The contract stated that I should take pictures (front,back,corners) of the car before I drive. And things like if I damage the tyres or have to call for tow service are under my own expense. (I’m sure those who rented cars will know these basic things?)
They will give a cashcard with zero value to exit the building. After exiting the building, I had to park the car by the roadside and return the cashcard to them before I leave so the next customer can use it. This is a slight downside for me but I’m just purely lazy lol.
About the car:
On first look, the car was of course not perfect, so I made sure to take close pictures of the areas that were already scratched to make sure I protect myself.
I think they also provide P-Plates if you don’t have one. They asked if I have my own and I told them I did.
The car felt alright, the brakes, headlights, wipers are all in good condition. There’s also a camera for when you reverse.
I could tell they sanitized the car before i collected it as the smell was very strong. My shirt even got the smell LOL. The car smelled nice too, they hung a car freshener on the mirror.
However, since I don’t know much about cars, my dad mentioned the car alignment is off. When the wheels are straight, the steering wheel is not. So that threw me off a bit bc I couldn’t practice my parking well since my parking is already bad. 😭
Returning the car:
Returning the car was also smooth. Andy was very friendly when he came out to collect the car as soon as we arrived (We didn’t meet him when we collected because he wasn’t there). He walked around the car to make sure there weren’t any dents or damage to the car.
We handed him the key and we’re off.
Overall, I would rent from them again and I also recommend to p-platers who are looking to rent a car to practice their driving or parking without having to put a deposit! The car exceeded my expectations as I thought no deposits will get me a car that’s not in a super good condition lol!
Ps: any tips on reverse parking is HIGHLY appreciated! I could not for the love of god park properly even after a good 6 hours of practice. Every time we had to park at a mall or coffee shop, my dad had to take over and park for me 🥲🥲🥲

So far the watch has served me well.
I have wore the hell out of this watch. Just as an example, went to Vegas for a week and I have adjusted the watch prior to my phones world clock to the second. In that week, I have not taken the watch off my wrist while in Vegas. I have banged it on every imaginable surface while I was intoxicated in both the day and night clubs. Every day this watch was with me in the pool and every night with me in the shower (screwed the crown down completely of course). Split drinks over it and just abused the hell out of it.
When I came back, a week later I checked to see how many seconds ahead or behind the watch was for that week, to my surprise it was only ahead by 4 seconds after the entire week of partying !
I have went to a couple of ADs in Vegas to browse for gen watches and have not gotten called out once, if anything, the fact that I had this on my wrist made the dealers more comfortable and they let me try on a bunch of expensive watches.
Lume is still decent. Some scratches and dents around the bezel from wear that may be able to even buff it out but nothing on the glass, completely scratch free.
One thing I am not sure about is it seems the world timer wheel has maybe slightly shifted a bit. When I line up the hour and minute hand to the 12 oclock position, some of the markings for the cities are not 100% lined up, almost like it is off by 10 min to one side, not sure if there is way to adjust it back without taking it apart. But for anyone considering buying it, might be a good thing to do a QC about, ask them to line up the minute and hour hand to the 12 oclock position and then see if the inner circle lines up properly with the cities. Cant tell if that got out of alignment over time or that was the issue originally that I missed.
I am still blown away and in love with this rep. Cant believe how well it is still keeping time after a year and just in general blown away with the quality overall. It is actually bitter sweet because I did plan to buy this gen version but now that I had this rep, and I have seen and held the gen version...while don't get me wrong the gen version looks nicer and I am sure the quality of the movement and everything is much better, but we are talking about 20X the price and I just don't know if I would feel comfortable wearing the gen version and doing things I have done with the rep. I have worn the hell out of the rep and I don't think that I would for example take the gen to vegas to party for a week ever. This rep has made me salty towards the gen prices even more.

I work at a restaurant on a busy road and I parked my car where I usually parked it. I left my car and four hours later when I returned to it, there was a significant dent in the trunk and paint scratched off the bumper. I immediately called the police to document the incident for insurance purposes and the officer notified me that since there aren’t any cameras in the parking lot or any good quality cameras inside the building, he didn’t have any way of finding the offender. It’s been 4 days since then and my vehicle was quoted around $3-4k in damages. I do have insurance to help pay but I was inquiring on the camera laws in Texas. I wanted to see if I could “make” my employers install camera surveillance in the parking lot. I know I can’t force them to do anything but it’s very frustrating that this happened. I just want to know if anyone had any insight on how to approach my employer on this issue. Thanks in advance to anyone that took the time to respond :)

i'm turning 18 in a month and i still feel so alone, and i feel like it's just getting worse.
currently the only two friends i have are online, and they both live near each other. they plan on moving into an apartment together as they go into college and, of course, i'm not near them.
i feel alone. i'm moving out to live by myself in a few weeks for college, and it sucks watching them hang out all of the time irl while i'm just here. by myself.
it's so hard for me to meet new people and make new friends, especially since my ex fucked me up mentally. i'm scared to go out of my circle and meet new people and trust them. i joined a club at my college that has people that share the same interest, but i feel so out of place. i had the intention of making new friends, but i feel like i just walked into a close friend group like a stranger.
im tired of feeling alone, hell, im tired of being alone. i just want to have a friend, someone in person who's there for me like i am for them. i fear it's only going to get worse for me mentally once i move out and left by myself. i wont even have my family to keep me company by then.
i dont know what to do and i just feel like crying every single day. it didnt help that the other day i accidentally crashed into a tree and fucked up my car. the drivers side window shattered, and theres a bunch of dents and scratches on that side of my car and the hood now.
im just so done with life. i dont even want to make it to 18, whats the point? im just going to be on my own even more but with the struggle of managing more fiananical issues and loneliness.

We just finished installing the NewAge Bold set. Bought directly from NewAge, on sale for a total of around $2200 (including tax), or about 30% off from the Memorial Day event. It’s a 9 piece set with bamboo worktop add on.
Our garage is small and we needed something compact for storage. The dimensions of the Bold (18” depth) is perfect for us so we can still park the car inside the garage.
The order arrived surprisingly fast, like in 1 week, I was kinda shocked. We were not super prepared and had to make a lot of trips to get tools but it was worth it since we didn’t want to pay for professional installation service (which would have been $600 extra!)
The delivery guy was nice and wheeled the pallet inside our garage. Then we spent most of the day unboxing and assembling. Hanging the small cabinets took a long time because we were struggling to find studs in the walls and worried about hitting pipes or electrical wiring. We used the pieces of styrofoam and cardboard in the packaging to hold them up. There is so much packaging waste as you unbox things, that was kind of annoying to deal with (but it would have cost extra $400 for the white glove delivery and trash haul away so obviously we didn’t want to pay for that!) We cut down all the cardboard and took that and the styrofoam to our local recycling station.
The quality of the Bold cabinets are OK… the metal is thin sheet metal and can easily be dented or scratched if you’re not careful. Doors don’t close smoothly and bang loudly. There are visible holes on the exterior sides of the cabinets (these are stamped out holes for hanging shelving) The platinum color shows dents, fingerprints and scratches really easily. Also some of the washers had rust on them, and the rods for hangers were bent on one side (it was possible to unbend them by hand to make them work).
Despite these defects the overall look is nice, and we are only using it to store some sports equipment and gardening tools, so we don’t need heavy duty cabinets (and the Pro series would have been too big to fit in our garage). Considering we saved $6000 (was quoted around $8200 for custom wood cabinets) I’m pretty happy with this solution to organize our outdoor gear!

I just purchased a refurbished iPad Pro 12.9 M2 256GB Wifi + Cellular in excellent condition. No dents on body just two minor spots of discolouration near the usb c and no scratches on the screen since the previous user had a scratchguard on from day 1. After completing my initial checks (sim, wifi, cameras, speakers, touch, ipad pencil, originality etc.) I decided to purchase. Now I am noticing the battery trickling down faster compared to my mac when I watch Netflix or Prime on wifi. This is the data extracted from the analytics file captured using a shortcut called Battery Stats. Help me understand whether the percentage is correct or the cycles is correct or whether I should wait for a few more days for the analytics to become accurate. How can 117 cycles cause 14% degradation of battery??
Otherwise the battery is holding well, just with the shortcut (and my calculations from searching the values within the analytics file) indicate that it requires a change. I got the deal for nearly $700 but the iPad is out of warranty and I’m in no mood to pay $180 right now (or sometime soon) for the fix.
