Upped my Negroni game
(Repost because my first post was taken down. Didn’t include the recipe as a comment.)
Upped my Negroni game
I have been making Negronis with equal parts using Bombay Sapphire, Martini & Rossi, and Campari for the the last year or so. I finally decided to try and elevate it. Switched to Tanqueray, Carpano Antica, and Campari for the first time and WOW. What a huge improvement. I can’t believe the depth of flavor this has now. Can wait to use the Carpano in a Manhattan next. It was well worth the cost.
What other gin should I try in this? I heard Tanqueray 10 might be even better?

2024.05.01 15:28 eZGjBw1Z New and Changed Products - May 2024 (More price increases than decreases)

Usually around the first of the month we have a batch of price changes. According to the "How to Become a Contract Liquor Agent" document, "The Agent must also complete price changes that occur at the first of the month..."
I plan to use this post to capture other smaller changes that happen during the rest of the month before the big change next month.
Counts for 5/1/24:
For each category I've sorted by the amount of the price increase or decrease. New products are shown first, then price decreases are shown in decreasing order followed by price increases in increasing order. At the end are products with other changes unrelated to price.
Here's a link to what changed last month in April, 2024.
Current product status is indicated on each line as follows. OHLQ hasn't publicly explained what these things mean but I've included my best guess below.

American Whiskey

Brandy

Canadian Whiskey

Cordial

Gin

Irish Whisky

Japanese Whiskey

Rum

Scotch

Tequila

Vodka

2024.05.01 00:11 Phased5ek Thoughts on Silver Sea Martini and Fiery Mustafarian

Thoughts on Silver Sea Martini and Fiery Mustafarian
https://preview.redd.it/tqobpps9toxc1.jpg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6a631fbfd38ab70d13d0fc2e7b87d1d9fabd68d3
I was happy to be back at the parks this past weekend (along with a couple of friends, namely for Star Wars Nite) after my last visit back in November for Life Day. I had a chance to try both of the specialty cocktails for the Season of the Force. Both cocktails -- Silver Sea Martini and Fiery Mustafarian -- were available on the CSL Halcyon (aka the Star Wars Starcruiser experience, aka the Lady H) from the Sublight Lounge. here's my breakdown about them:
  • Silver Sea Martini: I was rather disappointed with this at Oga's. I totally get that they likely changed the ingredients to make it cheaper for mass-production as well as for on-tap pouring. The Halcyon version is listed as having "Gin, Lemon, Mint, Ginger, Passionfruit" while the Oga's version has "Hendrick's Gin, Minute Maid Lemonade, Ginger Syrup, Honey and Mint Syrup, topped with a Shimmery Butterfly Pea Flower Tea". On the Halcyon, the cocktails are crafted by hand in front of you, just like a normal bar (with a couple things being poured from on tap, if i recall?). The quality of the drink overall is so much better and more flavorful. The Oga's version, by counterpoint, is much too heavy on the mint flavoring, which tastes very "fake" (likely a mint extract), which hides the ginger taste dramatically. the change away from passionfruit to honey also makes the drink that much more a shadow of its former self in a detrimental way. What went from my fav drink onboard the Lady H turned into one I'd rather never order again at Oga's. that said, i say judge for yourself since i'm heavily biased against the Oga's version after having pure bliss in a glass on the Lady H. [for those interested in my copycat recipe of the Halcyon version, modified from SaraJayMac's recipe, check out my Oga's At Home post for it here.]
  • Fiery Mustafarian: This wasn't too bad. I, unfortunately, don't recall a lot about the cocktail onboard the Lady H for numerous reasons (jetlag, fatigue from lack of sleep and overly-hot & humid florida weather, plus being two cocktails in by the time i had ordered it). The one served in Oga's was fairly close to what I remember it being like, which is tasty with a bit of a "roughness" burn to it going down. The cocktail is served with a "vial of lava extract" (i.e. a chile-based syrup, whether it's infused simple syrup or chile-based liqueur i do not know), so to keep it consistent with how i drank it on the Lady H, i dumped the entire contents into the glass before having the cocktail and mixed it in. The Halcyon version was made with "Añejo Tequila, Mezcal, Stone Fruit, Lime, Chili, Black Salt" while Oga's version changed it up to "El Mayor Añejo Tequila, Apertivo Aperol, Peach Purée, Peach Syrup and Lime Juice". The mezcal stands out here, giving it a nice smokey taste with that distinct roughness to it, Of the two cocktails, I definitely recommend this one, especially to those who are tequila/mezcal fans. Don't be afraid to add the spicy "lava extract". personally, i don't think it's that spicy (but then, i also am accustomed to habañero and ghost pepper hot sauces i make myself so i may be biased & immune to it. haha!)
As for the glassware, it's good quality stuff. The rims of both types of glasses (the orb for the fiery mustafarian and the chalice for the silver sea martini) are a bit difficult to drink from due to their thickness, but they make for great display pieces or collector items. They are both branded with the CSL logo (the two vertical lines crossing through a circle with a dot in the upper right), so they fit right in for anyone (like me!) who bought one, the other, or both on the Halcyon or for whomever would like something to remember the Halcyon with. As a note, the chalice was originally sold with the Dagobah Vimlet (a take on a vodka gimlet or, closer to a kamikaze with the addition of the orange liqueur in it), but here it is sold with the Silver Sea Martini since it was the more popular drink at the Sublight Lounge.

Any other fun flexible ingredients you like to have? What recipes would you add to spice things up?
Thanks :)

Almeria
Didn't think these ingredients would work together, but I'm making this instead of espresso martinis forever now.
1.5 oz Plantation 3 Star Ru. 1 oz Kapali Coffee Liqueur 0.5 oz egg white 3 dashes orange bitters
The OG recipe calls for coffee flavored brandy, but I can't find that anywhere.
