2024.05.21 22:30 LopsidedSignal9490 Buying a PS5 for a TV Without ALLM/VRR

Hey everyone,
Super excited to grab a PS5 soon, but I have a question about my TV. I just bought a new one that's awesome, but (whoops!) I didn't realize it doesn't have ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) or VRR (Variable Refresh Rate). No returns, so here I am.
So, how much of a hit will my gaming experience take without these features? Should I be worried, or will I still be rocking some sweet PS5 action?
Thanks in advance for the advice!

2024.05.21 21:54 widerdog LG 27GR95QE-B weird banding and hdmi issues

I just bought this OLED as it was on sale, and it works well. I have no issue with the brightness. However, I noticed there is colour banding issues in games, videos and even just wallpapers. At first, I was using DisplayPort with DSC and I thought that was the issue, so I switched over to HDMI 2.1, I am using a Radeon 6900XT on my PC which does have one but I'm not sure if it has enough bandwidth as 12-bit option is no longer there. This is only with 240 hz though, if I set it to 144 hz the 12-bit option comes back. The monitor is on the latest firmware, I checked with on screen control and it says latest (3.08). Also, with the PS5, 120 hz does not work, even when putting it in performance mode, it stays stuck at 60 hz. I have used CRU as well to try and get 12-bit to work but nothing worked, but I have now deleted 4K resolutions and also turned on Fast V active and auto low latency mode for HDMI 2.1, which makes it smoother. HDMI does work better than DP with DSC, colours looks better and feels better, but I don't know how to make 12-bit work and banding is still there, is it a problem with the GPU? PS5 also has a problem but with the refresh rate. Is the colour banding just an OLED issue? It is mainly a problem with gray colours, skies in games etc. but in other content not so much, I've set Black Level to low in picture settings which helps a bit. I am using Gamer 1, Contrast 70, Sharpness 60, Colour Temp C1
Is anyone else having these issues? I have seen the ASUS one is also on sale now but still $300 CAD more than this one but from what I've read it also has banding issues. I still have 3 weeks to return this, but I'm not sure what to do. I am losing my mind trying to fix the colour banding issues and also the 12-bit. Any help is appreciated.

2024.05.21 20:39 Mawksie Pulling and Team Building for beginners

Hi everyone!
Likely the most common type of post in this sub is asking for guidance about what current/upcoming characters would most benefit their account to pull. I've dipped into a few of these threads to offer what insight I have, but I feel like there are some basic principles that are easy to see once you've played for a while that are less obvious when you first start, and talking about those might help more people than handing out fish individually.
Disclaimer: I'm not a hardcore player. I don't whale (monthly passes and NH only). I couldn't recognize a damage simulation calculation if it hit my mother. My main qualification to talk about this is being a person who has played every day since release, and since about three months after that, hasn't gotten less than max stars in every MoC/PF. I'm what I assume most would call a "successful casual" player. So if that's your current goal, I'm hoping I can help.
Second Disclaimer: YOU ARE HERE TO HAVE FUN, IF SOMEONE LOOKS COOL TO YOU, PULL FOR THEM. Everything below is for getting your account on it's feet as fast as possible, but ultimately the only factor in HSR is time. No matter who you pull, your account will have everything it needs eventually, and you WILL get all those stars. If you're in no rush, skip my post since it will only be as valuable as who-to-pull advice as /okbuddytrailblazer. Remember: If you aint mirin' your fun is expirin'

~-~Okay, but who should I pull??~-~

You're first priority should always be a powerful sustain unit.
Why?
Because with a reasonable investment, the 4* damage units on your team will do just fine (for now). Pulling a damage unit is tempting in the beginning because big numbers and flashy animations are cool (and listen, I know thats why we're all here), but you don't get to see those big numbers and animations if your damage dealer is dead. The biggest jump in the power and confy-ness of my account was upgrading Bailu to Fu-Xuan. Suddenly my team was surviing long enough to finish fights that seemed like close-calls at best a day prior. My damage was still middling, but at least I was surviving long enough to deal it.
"Okay, but what makes a sustain unit good? Aren't all limited sustains better than 4*/Bailu?"
While most/all limited sustains will broadly be better than 4*/Bailu, they are not all going to be equally valuable to an in-progress account. As of right now, pretty much all of the released sustain units are top tier and worth getting for new accounts, but as more are released, you're going to see units fit more into niches that are much more valuable to more established accounts that can take advantage of those niches, and much less valuable to new accounts that mostly just need to cover the basics.
"The basics" just refers to two things, mainly:
  1. Can your sustain unit heal/block enough damage to keep your units alive?
  2. Can your sustain cleanse/prevent CC effects that would hamper your team's ability to do their job?
So a quick breakdown of the current sustains and how they cover those basics:
Luocha
  1. Potent single target heals with free casts, and potent off-turn healing means any damage that doesnt outright one-shot your team is healed back to full quickly and easily
  2. His ability when triggered manually or through his passive, cleanses, allowing for quick reactions to CC
FuXuan
  1. Extreme damage mitigation and small heals allow teams to easily survive all but the most punishing content
  2. Once-per-cast ability blocks single or team-wide CC
Huohuo
  1. Insane ability healing output, plus consistent off-turn healing keeps teams alive, albeit at an SP cost
  2. Her ability's target, as well as all recipients of her off-turn healing are cleansed, making pretty much all negative effects complete non-issues.
Aventurine
  1. High value shields that self refreshes if they survive long enough give comfy margins for even big incoming damage
  2. Self-CC immunity plus reasonable CC resist on his shield mean your only real enemy is bad luck
Any of these units will make your main team feel near-invincible.
But what about upcoming sustains? Will they be just as good?
Maybe! We can look at the kits of some 4* sustains to see what more niche sustain kits may look like in the future:
Gallagher:
  1. Fair healing output, but requires the injured party to attack or else costs 1SP to heal directly.
  2. Cleanse on ability, but locked behind E2. Only on-turn, costs SP.
  3. Break effect debuff on ult/EBA means synergy with teams that benefits from debuffs/BE.
Gallagher's sustain capabilities aren't much compared to the limited units'. But he has a place in teams that will benefit from his strong debuff, as they may not need as much healing/cleansing due to knocking-the-bajesus out of the enemy before they can attack. Valuable to someone with Acheron? Absolutely! Is he going to keep your level 40 QingQue alive long enough to kill the Deer? Probably not.

~-Okay, I have a plan to get a sustain, can I blow something up now?-~

Yes! But, just like sustains, there are going to be things to look out for to get the most out of your first limited damage-dealer.
1. Is your DPS going to struggle if the enemy is not weak to their element?
2. Is your DPS going to struggle because they lack an essential partner unit you don't own?
3. What situation is your DPS built to handle?
So are other DPS units not worth getting?
Every limited DPS unit in the game has a place and team that makes them amazing. Once your account is getting its full value out of the biweekly challenges, then the best value comes from building synergies.

~-Okay I have my damage dealer, and they're staying alive. Why are my numbers so much lower than the ones I see in screenshots and videos?-~

When you first start HSR, it seems like the real heroes are the damage dealers "WoAw That Acheron just hit an Ult for 850k!"
But did they? or was it the Silver Wolf and Pela standing behind her?
The real excitement now, is in the buffers/debuffers
Limited Harmony (and utility Nihility) units are the last piece to the puzzle. Not only will they give you screenshot-worthy damage numbers, but they have much more broad appeal to teams than other roles.
While certain teams want certain stats more than others, ultimately, stats are stats, and whether that means you're going faster, hitting harder, or getting more energy for ultimates, your DPS units will almost always benefit from a limited support unit.
There aren't that many of them, so lets talk about all of them and what makes them good.
1. Bronya
2. RuanMei
3. SParkle
4. Robin
5. Silver Wolf
6. Harmony Trailblazer

~-I have a character for all three roles! Now what?-~

At this point, you should be able to capable handle at least one side of MoC/PF, and you'll want to shift focus to your second team, but this is much more open ended, so let just talk about some considerations that will make choosing new characters easier. Remember that ultimately your goal is to have teams that can reliably clear the biweekly challenges and SU modules.
1. Do you already have units that have synergy with the new units?
2. Do you have coverage for the weaknesses of your current teams?
3. Is a new unit going to require a ton of investment to come online?

~-TLDR;-~

MYP Black Review 800 Miles
Hey Y’all! Just wanted to share some thoughts on my experience after 800 miles of driving. For starters, I BURN through the battery 😂. This car has been by far the most fun and enjoyable experience. If I’m in a mood, I can turn onAuto-Pilott and relax, if I have a lead foot (pretty much every day) then I stomp on it and I get all the adrenaline I need at over 33 years old lol. If you want the white interior, do it! I have a 5 and 7 year old and baby wipes pretty much take anything and everything off of them. It just hitsdifferentlyt when you open the door. The simplicity has been a big one for me. I drove a friend’s 2023 BMW X5 and it had SOOOOO many buttons everywhere. It just felt like too much after having practically no buttons in my MYP.
Usually, when I buy a new car I start looking at all the things I would go ahead and swap out (wheels, intake, exhaust, and so on) which ends up running very high in costs. Here I did tint, smoked film for headlights, taillights, and all signals, tissue holder, trash can for the back seat, center console trays, and black badge colors. In the end, it was well under a grand to do all of that.
I got used to the regen braking within 24 hours and now have used the brakes maybe 5-10 times over those 800 miles! The brakes will not need to be replaced for a long time. Stereo is by far the best I’ve experienced personally. Not to say there isn’t something better out there but from what I’ve seen in person, nothing compares. Makes for great morning drives dropping the girls off for school, it’s like a concert in my car and everyone is singing! lol. Having your own driver profile is also quite awesome. My fiance just gets in the car and EVERYTHING changes to her settings, mirrors, Spotify account, seat/wheel and even driving preferences (chill acceleration) lol. I choose the MYP simply because it’s just my daily driver and daily is never more than 20-30 miles and I work from home so some days it doesn’t even get driven. I also have a two car garage and had the 240 outlet put in by a friend. If I didn’t have that I could see how charging could get annoying. I used a Tesla supercharger two days ago while I was in the mall and it was pretty neat. It’s funny because I found it to be expensive at $13 for 28 minutes of charging and then I remembered what I pay at gas stations….it’s still much cheaper lol. I’m just getting spoiled with charging at night when I’m home.
I don’t know what else to say other than, if you’re indecisive about pulling the trigger and you already know you can afford it, then go for it! Are there a few catches with that, of course! I still feel we’ll always need a gas car and could never do two EV’s as a family. I do think you need at home charging for charging to not become annoying. I don’t have spare time to just go sit at a Tesla charger. But those are about it for me.
I will give you the one hiccup I had since owning it. This was my fault btw, lol. So, on pick up day, I got it around 10am and came straight home to work. About 2:00pm I leave for the gym and as I’m leaving the drive way, the car asked if I wanted to schedule an update for 2:00 am that night, so I selected yes! I get to gym and my Tesla app tells me that the update will take 25 minutes and I will easily be in the gym for 45 minutes plus. So my dumb**s selects update because I’m obviously impatient. I get out to the car after working out and my screen says the update is at 10%. I call service and they couldn’t do anything over the air and the conclusion is that I need to get it towed to a service center and it’s a Friday!! I get picked up and head home extremely upset of course. I get back on the phone with service to schedule a tow truck and as we’re on the phone the agent tells me to check my app and see if it shows it in update still and to my surprise it wasn’t! Long story short, don’t try and update your car unless it’s at home and connected to your WiFi. The update was to add my free 3 month FSD, so it was a massive update. I haven’t used FSD too much because I love driving the car so much but it’s pretty damn impressive! Everyone who rides with me is blown away by its capabilities. Anyways, I got my review out and I figured it was the perfect place. Also, I leased because I want to buy the refresh in 3 years when I turn this in.

2024.05.21 15:28 CHiLDiSH402 .99 APR Issues with Alliant Credit Union

I was checking to see if anyone had any issues with this particular credit union? Yesterday i put in my order and when i get to the loan application part it give me 2 options - loan with alliant and self-arranged loan. I select Alliant which kicks me over to their website and i start the application process. Seemed a little off though They asked what kind of loan i wanted and there was an option for the tesla loan but the next set of questions made it seems like the credit union wasnt trully connected with tesla. They were asking me how big of the loan i need when i would think if i'm requesting a loan through tesla they would pass on the information to whatever company was taking the loan. to get to the point - 1/2 way through putting in information the screen refreshes and says the application was closed due to being denied. The tesla app however saying i'm pending. I called the tesla rep associated with my account and he said it just shows pending on his side and to basically wait a day or 2 to see what happens. I have an 803 credit score, make 75k a year and just my current mortgage and auto loan. I'm in the process of selling my current vehicle to pay off the auto loan but everyone i spoke with says you should still get the approval as i have great credit history and no additional debt.
I have seen the recommendations to email [autofinance@tesla.com](mailto:autofinance@tesla.com) if we have issues but i was going to give at least 24-48 hours before i start pressin.
thoughts on this? any recommendations.? Anyone have any issues with this credit union as well?
Thanks

2024.05.21 14:15 DisastrousOpening477 Pixel 8 Pro review : 8 months in

Day one Pixel 8 Pro owner here. Thought I’d share my experience, after over 8 months of ownership.
P8P Bay 256GB has been my daily driver since its release. I use it with 5G on, screen at full resolution, dynamic "smooth display" refresh rate is on, no bluetooth or tethering. Brightness left on auto.
TLDR :
Positives = camera quality, great design, OS (with some caveats), great screen (some caveats too)
Negatives = everything else
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Camera : beautiful imagery has always been the signature of the Pixel line, and this release is no exception. Every shot has this mesmerizing "Pixel touch", and the new ultrawide sensor is finally on par with the main unit. Videos are world class too, not quite on the level of the iPhone but we'll get there eventually.
Beautiful and unique design : It's sitting in a clear case, and in a sea of generic, boring slabs, it really stands out and doesn't go unnoticed. People often ask me what kind of phone it is, most are still not aware that Google is making smartphones and has been doing so for almost a decade now.
Very long software support : Seven years of updates is unrivaled in the Android scene, albeit with the following you’ll understand no one would willingly keep this phone seven years, so it’s not really a positive.
Sleek OS : Android in its purest, cleanest form. Customization galore. However as I'll mention later this pure android is NOT running smoothly, so I don't know if this count as a positive.
Gorgeous OLED panel : A truly beautiful display, high-resolution, good brightness..unfortunately plagued by mutiple lags and frame drops in the UI, I'll get back to that. Now onto the negatives.
First off, we must address the elephant in the room. Battery life. This phone charges PAINFULLY slow and discharges EXTREMELY fast. The opposite of what you want, right ?
The 10 minutes top ups to 50% is a concept Google seemingly never heard of. You want half a charge ? Better sit & wait half an hour. Full charge ? Go watch a movie. Now the discharge, and this is where the real drama clocks in. This phone EATS battery, ON IDLE.
On your average 9 to 5 workday (no camera, no games, just basic apps) you’ll head home with 15% tops. Phone dead by 7pm, then full charge will eat 90 minutes off your schedule, better not be in a hurry.
Now try to make a bit of power usage out of your power user phone : A bit of pictures for work at 10am, a short 4K video at 1pm, a bit of Fallout Shelter on the toilet at 2pm. You’re now looking at a 4pm shutdown.
But let’s go real on the camera, after all this is a camera flagship and it should be your reliable companion on a field day. Starting at 10 am : pictures, videos, a bit of editing, about 40 pictures taken and 3 videos of 10 minutes each. Shutdown at 1PM.
The CPU just eats battery on IDLE doing NOTHING. Throw anything heavy at it and you’ll head home with a dead phone, one that died long before your day was over. Simple as that.
Keep in mind that this is my experience with a 8-months-old device, and it will get worse and worse as the battery cell degrades over time. One can only wonder how many cell replacements this phone will need to get to the end of its famed software support.
Now we need to talk UI and animations because this isn’t good either. Stellar 120hz OLED panel and stock android should be a recipe for smoothness, but not here. Actually, some animations including the cool lock screen clock are barely 60hz. Switching apps isn’t 120hz either, nor is scrolling. A TON of lags and various frame drops, resulting in a framerate like 40-90hz, never stable, with the occasional but very rare peak at 120. This isn't TW3 gameplay on a potato but simply browing menus and scrolling instagram on a 2023, 1159€ flagship phone from Google.
This phone FEELS slow, and yet consume an enormous amount of power to do so. Infuriating.
One day I had to handle a coworker’s A54 to tweak a few things. I was SHOCKED by the smoothness, this was indeed true 120hz, which only happens a few times a day on Pixel 8 Pro. I realized what I was missing on by handling an Exynos mid-ranger. I understand the need for a dynamic framerate, not locked at 120hz all the time to save battery. But only reaching 120hz 5 times a day and still having a mediocre battery life wasn’t what I had in mind.
Finally, the optical, under-display fingerprint scanner. This, my friends, is an antique piece of hardware that belongs to a museum. Remember the Huawei Mate RS from 2018 ? One of the first phones with UDFS. The optical technology was so experimental and unreliable (still is, most OEMs moved on to ultrasonic) that Huawei also included another optical fingerprint sensor on the back of the device, just in case. Well, this ancient tech is what you have on the Pixel 8 Pro, and no optical sensor backup in sight.
Sometimes, it can take up to 2 full seconds of contact to….successfully fail to unlock. After it fails 3 times or so, it will ask you to enter your password, making one-hand unlocks a luck job. Sometimes it will successfully unlock after a couple tries, but a couple tries of 2 seconds each makes unlocking your phone a 4 seconds job which is just painfully slow. The occasional one tap magic is as rare as the occasional 120hz peak in the UI. As for face-unlock, I know it's there but I disabled it because it doesn't work in the dark (no IR sensor) and I simply want to unlock my phone at waist height, without having to raise it to my face.
Pixel 8 Pro remembers me of an exotic sports car that might look incredibly cool from a distance but is actually a pain to live with on a daily basis. And indeed it does look incredibly cool. I remember seeing this phone as a much better pick than the generic Galaxy and the boring iPhone, but I’d rather go boring or generic than having to handle this mess of an hardware Google sold me for 1159€.

2024.05.21 08:21 SteveBraun Review of Innocn 27M2V, Innocn 32M2V, KTC M32P10, Porsche Design PD32M, and Samsung Neo G7

tl;dr: KTC M32P10 and Neo G7 are best. Not sure which to keep yet. Innocn ones are a close second. Porsche PD32M is terrible.
I've been looking for a mini LED monitor, and in the process have tried the Innocn 27M2V, Innocn 32M2V, KTC M32P10, Porsche Design PD32M, and the Samsung Neo G7. I've put together my experiences with each monitor, in case it helps anyone else considering these, but also to help myself decide which one to keep.
Keep in mind that I'm not some kind of monitorphile. I can't test for colour accuracy, nits, response times, or anything fancy like that. I'm coming from a regular 4k IPS screen. I've only ever used TN and IPS before. I've never used VA, OLED, or curved screens before. I've always had matte coatings. I'm not in any special light-controlled environment; I use my computer in different lighting conditions, as there is a window that lets in varying amounts of sunlight. I do desktop work as well as play games.
Innocn 27M2V:
Ordered for £646 from Amazon.com.
This was my first time ever trying a mini LED monitor. Initial impressions were therefore fantastic: I was blown away by experiencing real HDR content for the first time. Bright lights, particle effects, laser beams, explosions, etc. all pop so brightly, like flashlights shining in my face. Incredible. Blacks are actually black. With a fully black screen, it's as if the monitor is just switched off. And local dimming magically removes IPS glow. It's amazing toggling it on and off and seeing the glow just disappear.
There's a "backlight contrast" setting which goes from 0 to 100, and controls how the local dimming works. A higher value seems to prioritise bright highlights more. With a white mouse cursor on a black screen, the cursor is quite dimmed at 0, whereas at 100 it better maintains its brightness.
I found local dimming quite bad for SDR desktop use though, which I think is to be expected. When just using a web browser, Steam chat, etc., local dimming just seems to be a downgrade. Blooming is easily noticeable, and changes on one part of the screen easily affect completely different parts of the screen. For example, playing a YouTube video in a browser window results in brightness outside of that window changing as the video changes. It almost looks like "fullscreen dimming", with the rest of the desktop flickering in brightness as the YouTube video plays.
Local dimming was mostly great for SDR movies, anime, etc. But at times I did notice some flicker, e.g. as a character walked across the screen in anime (with mostly solid colours), I was distracted by a flickering trail of zones behind the character.
The shell of the monitor was a bit disappointing. There are gaps between the shell and the screen, which can let dust in — I've seen other people report this. And the back is an absolute nightmare for cleaning. It has so many ridges and grooves all over the entire back surface, all dust traps. You'd need to spend ages with a can of compressed air to properly clean it. It may sound silly, but I honestly think this is a deal-breaker. If I were to keep this monitor, I'd definitely need to 3D print some kind of dust cover to go on the back of it.
The lights on the back are a pointless gimmick. They aren't bright enough to illuminate the wall, so unless you look at the back of the monitor often, you'll never even see them.
The OSD and inputs are okay, but the physical buttons are a bit annoying. I was bothered by them more than I thought I'd be. Parallax error can mean it's a bit difficult to tell which physical button is being pressed in relation to the buttons displayed on the OSD.
There are 6 crosshair options, and they're okay.
Defects: 5+ stuck/dead subpixels. A small crack on the stand.
Innocn 32M2V:
Ordered for £746 from Amazon.com.
Not much to say about this. To me, it was exactly the same as the Innocn 27M2V, just bigger and with a black shell. No other differences that I noticed.
Defects: 1 stuck subpixel, and a very large piece of dirt trapped under screen (almost looks like somebody drew a small line on it with a marker pen!).
Porsche Design PD32M:
Ordered for £700 from Amazon.co.uk. This was a sale price, with it normally costing £1400-1750.
This is by far the most expensive monitor on this list, and on paper has the highest specs (e.g. DisplayHDR 1400). Yet it's easily the worst monitor I've tried. Just avoid it.
Build quality is pretty good. I had no complaints about the shell of the monitor, aside from the stupid pop-out "headphone stand" wings that wobbled and felt very cheap. Materials felt premium otherwise. The stand was made of metal and ridiculously heavy — very hard to move this thing around. Also, unlike the Innocn monitor, the lights on the back actually are bright enough to light up the wall a bit in a dark room.
Everything beyond the exterior was just disappointing. It seems all the money just went to the Porsche branding and the metal stand.
Local dimming barely does anything on this monitor. Contrary to some older posts in this subreddit, it can be enabled in SDR: you just need to turn off game mode. It just doesn't do much... Blacks get slightly darker when local dimming is on, but it still generally looks like local dimming is off. IPS glow is still clearly apparent. Even on a completely black screen, the backlight stays well lit. Really disappointing.
Local dimming is a bit better in HDR, but it seems to want to spread out the light all the way across the screen to minimise blooming, which defeats the purpose of having so many zones. Instead of bright highlights and deep black shadows, you just get dim highlights and grey shadows. Changes on the far left side of the screen affect the dimming zones on the far right of the screen. There's no wow factor or pop.
PWM flicker is horrible on this monitor. Very easily noticeable on camera.
I found the OSD layout and navigation to be a bit confusing. When changing settings, you have to scroll blindly through the options — you only ever see the current selection, and never see the full list of options. When HDR is enabled, most of the settings get disabled too — you can't change colours, contrast, the normal brightness setting, or much of anything else. There is a "luminous max" setting that you can change though, to turn down the max HDR brightness.
The joystick on the back feels very loose and fiddly. It's easy to double-press inputs by accident.
The crosshair is accessed by pressing and holding the joystick button when no menus are open. It's nice that it's a quick toggle like this, but the design is quite a thick pink crosshair, which isn't ideal for precision.
There's a remote control included, which I thought would be nice. But what's the point? Once the monitor is set up, the only thing I might want to change often would be the local dimming setting. And local dimming barely does anything on this monitor, especially in SDR. So the remote becomes useless.
Defects: 27+ stuck/dead subpixels. I gave up counting.
KTC M32P10:
Ordered for £693 from Amazon.com.
This was largely similar to the Innocn monitors, so I won't talk too much about this. Overall, I feel it's better than Innocn:
I did feel like the Innocn monitors did local dimming slightly better though:
Also, the KTC monitor's power light is on the front, which could be distracting in the dark... Innocn has it on the bottom. It can always be covered up though I suppose.
Between KTC and Innocn, I'd just pick KTC. I think it does the same thing better for the most part. And it is so much easier to clean. Having to turn up the brightness when using SDR local dimming is an annoyance, but good joystick with quick shortcuts make it fairly painless.
Defects: 26+ stuck subpixels, and three pieces of dirt trapped under the screen.
Samsung Neo G7:
Ordered for £600 from eBay.co.uk.
This was my first time ever trying a VA panel, as well as a curved screen.
I had read a lot online about IPS vs VA panels, and went in expecting blacks to be black even without local dimming, and also for there to be significant colour-shift as I moved my head around. I saw neither of these things. With local dimming off, blacks looked grey, like "lit blacks", just the same as on an IPS screen. Actually, the blacks almost look worse, at times taking on a blue-ish tint that I never noticed before with IPS panels. Viewing angles seem pretty good too. Yeah, there's some slight colour shift at the edges or as I move my head around, but it's very subtle, and I've actually seen that with the IPS screens too. You could've told me it was an IPS panel and I would've believed you. People online talk like there's such a huge difference between the two, but based on this experience I feel like they're almost the same. So, this was a little bit of a let down, as I looking forward to experiencing something new and different. But there is definitely no IPS glow. So I suppose VA is decent: I see a minor upside and no downside compared to IPS.
Once I started playing around with HDR content and local dimming, my initial disappointment was reversed and I fell in love with the picture quality. Contrast is amazing. Colours are bright and vivid with a lot of pop, blacks are great. It just looks so good. There's definitely a noticeable difference compared to the previous monitors. Although, I do wonder how much of this is the monitor actually being better, or whether it's just producing an overly saturated / overly contrasty image. Maybe the other monitors are just being more accurate to how it's supposed to be? I really don't know. At the very least, this monitor definitely seems to oversaturate reds, and I've seen other people confirm that. The whole thing could just be exaggerated/overtuned for all I know — but it looks so good.
Blooming is very minimal; often completely invisible. If I stand up and look down at the screen from a very extreme angle, I can see the blooming, but straight-on it just magically disappears. Is this the power of VA? Since it can block out the backlight better, blooming is eliminated? It makes sense, but it's odd that it's so apparent with local dimming on, when it wasn't with it off. It's really quite incredible how little blooming I see, without sacrificing the bright highlights. Even with SDR desktop use, I see very little blooming, yet the picture is fantastic. This is the only monitor on the list where I can happily use local dimming for desktop use (even High local dimming!) and it not be a problem at all. This is very convenient, as there's no need to keep changing monitor settings depending on what I'm doing.
I also noticed the local dimming seems slightly faster / more responsive than the other monitors. I didn't comment on this earlier as all the monitors were quite comparable, exhibiting some flickering/trailing with the fast moving white ball in Rting's test video. The Neo G7 flickers/trails too, but a little bit less.
This monitor has Auto, Low, and High modes for local dimming. The description claims that Auto makes it turn on only for HDR, but that isn't true. Auto still works in SDR mode, just with a very diminished effect. Low and High here seem to refer to how much contrast you get. Personally, I like High the most. It gives the most pop in HDR and SDR movies, and still has very little blooming on the SDR desktop.
Brightness is configurable in HDR mode, so if it's too bright you can turn it down. The monitor also saves brightness, contrast enhancer, and perhaps other settings separately for SDR and HDR mode, which is very convenient.
A minor annoyance is that the screen goes black momentarily when toggling local dimming on or off. With all the other monitors, this didn't happen, which made it much easier to see what changes local dimming is actually making to the image.
The curve... There are definitely pros and cons to it, but overall I feel it's a bad thing.
Aside from that, I was disappointed to see that this screen has very heavy PWM flicker. It's not quite as bad as on the Porsche, but it's easily captured by a phone camera: thick black stripes scrolling across the screen. It varies depending on the screen brightness, the refresh rate, and whether or not local dimming is in use — but it's always there. I can't say that I've actually noticed any eyestrain in my time using it, so perhaps it's not a problem... Maybe a little bit of slight burning in my eyes... it's so hard to tell. But I've always used flicker-free screens in the past, and I spend so much time at my computer, that this really does worry me. What harm will this do to my eye health in the long run?
I also find that this monitor has quite a distracting glare. None of the other monitors I've ever use exhibited this. I can see a (blurry) reflection of myself in the screen. No matter whether I'm in a lit room or a dark room, I get glare and reflections on the screen. It's especially bad in dark scenes as the glare covers up the blacks a bit. It is distracting.
The OSD is pretty decent. It works well enough, and it actually has descriptions for the settings unlike all the other monitors. The buttons are okay; not as great as a normal joystick though. Shortcut settings are very poor: you only get one shortcut button, you can't set a shortcut for local dimming, and it's not really a shortcut anyway as it still takes 4 button presses to actually get to it.
Crosshair options are impressive. You get a preview of them all in the menu, which is much more convenient (on the other monitors, you have to select one just by its number and then exit the OSD entirely to actually see what it looks like). You can even customise the on-screen position of the crosshair. The designs are decent and usable too, although not quite as good as KTC's crosshair design.
The power light is on the bottom of the monitor, which is good for minimising distractions. It can even be turned off entirely while in use.
Quirks/Defects:
Comparison:
The KTC monitor is the only one with real shortcuts. You can set all the joystick directions to shortcut settings (including local dimming!), and then as soon as you press that direction you immediately go to that setting with its value in edit mode. The other monitors are much more limited (e.g. Neo G7 only has one "shortcut" button, and none of the others let you bind local dimming), but they're not even real shortcuts — you have to press 2-4 button inputs before you actually get to the "shortcut".
On the Innocn, Porsche, and Neo G7 monitors, I noticed very small dots in the top-left and top-right corners of the screen, outside the pixel area. I assume these are some kind of markings to indicate orientation of the panel or something? Maybe I'm being a bit OCD, but they bother me a little bit. When the shell is black and the screen border is black, the little dots stand out to me and I can't help but notice them. The KTC monitor is the only one that doesn't have these.
Conclusion:
For me, the KTC M32P10 and the Samsung Neo G7 are the best of these options. I'm really not sure what to do. The Neo G7 has the best picture quality, but I'm really put off by the PWM dimming, the curve's distortion, and the glare. If there was a Neo G7 that was flat and with DC dimming, I would definitely pick that...
I'm thinking of trying the Neo G8 next, since it's supposed to have a more matte coating with better reflection handling, but it's still going to have the same PWM dimming and curve. It also has an ugly white back, but I suppose I won't see that.
If you have any advice for me, I'd love to hear it. If you have any questions about these monitors, feel free to ask.

🔗Ultimate Gun Cleaner and Lubricant: Corrosion Technologies 50102 CLP

https://preview.redd.it/ih1i206gpp1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7cd477f7000da6a95690928af3410015b0016f64
I recently tried the 50102 Ultimate CLP trigger spray from Corrosion Technologies. As a frequent user of firearms, this product has become an essential part of my routine. This versatile spray can be used to clean, lubricate and protect my firearms, and it sure does make a difference. The product works surprisingly well, leaving my firearms in pristine condition, all while being incredibly easy to apply.
One of the most impressive features of this trigger spray is how it clings onto the metal surface, providing an extra layer of protection against moisture or friction. It is impressive how effective it is at minimizing wear and tear, resulting in a better and longer-lasting performance. Although it may take a bit more effort to apply it properly, once it's on, it is very effective.
However, I must mention that this product comes with a higher price tag compared to other similar products. And while this spray is highly effective, it only comes in a 16 oz size, which could be limiting for some users who need a larger quantity. Despite these minor drawbacks, the 50102 Ultimate CLP trigger spray from Corrosion Technologies has impressed me with its performance and I highly recommend it for those who want to get the most out of their firearms.

🔗High-Quality Gun CLP Cleaner & Lubricant by STA-BIL

https://preview.redd.it/9aj1yslgpp1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=edb1de556343ba06bea2fca5faa36479be68a537
I recently decided to give this STA-BIL Gun Cleaner & Lubricant a try. My intention was to find a reliable firearm cleaner that could provide long-lasting protection and lubrication. I had heard about the product's ability to tackle powder residue, bullet fouling, and other contaminants, all while restoring accuracy.
Upon using the Gun CLP, I was immediately struck by the high-quality formula that the product is engineered with. The way it cleans away gun powder and residue felt thorough and efficient, leaving no trace of impurities on my gun. Additionally, the lubrication provided by this Gun CLP felt smooth and precise, making operation of my gun enjoyable and hassle-free.
One of the most impressive features of this product is its versatility. I was able to use it on pistols, rifles, and shotguns alike with excellent results. The fact that it can protect against corrosion and provide the gun with a durable, non-hindering barrier was also a significant plus.
However, there were a few cons that I encountered during my experience. Firstly, the anti-wear additive, while effective, was slightly thicker than I would have preferred. This made it a tad difficult to dispense and apply to more difficult-to-reach areas of the gun. Secondly, the plastic top of the bottle seemed a bit flimsy and susceptible to leaking, especially if not handled carefully.
Overall, I found the STA-BIL Gun Cleaner & Lubricant (CLP) to be a highly effective product for those looking to maintain and protect their firearms. While there are a few minor downsides, the pros consistently outweigh them in my experience.

🔗Real Avid Tri-Max CLP 4 oz Squeeze Bottle - Gun Cleaner and Lubricant

The Real Avid TRI-MAX CLP is a versatile 4oz squeeze bottle that serves as a cleaner and lubricant for firearms. It's designed to meticulously clean and protect a wide range of guns, from shotguns to handguns. Formulated with a top-notch mixture of cleaning and lubricating agents, the TRI-MAX CLP effectively removes dirt, debris, and grime while providing long-lasting lubrication.
Its user-friendly squeeze design ensures accurate application in hard-to-reach areas, and the formula works its magic on every inch of the gun, from the barrel to the bolt. This product is perfect for anyone who demands top-tier performance for their firearms, as it outshines other cleaning and lubricating products on the market. The Real Avid TRI-MAX CLP is indeed the ideal solution for keeping your guns in pristine condition.

🔗Extreme Duty Gun Cleaner and Protector

https://preview.redd.it/z5tjoq9hpp1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=322807054fa5dbf0d13fddca7cbac2c3ab417d6e
During my journey to find the perfect gun cleaner, I stumbled upon Lucas Oil Extreme Duty CLP. It did not disappoint, as it effectively cleaned, lubed, and protected my firearms in a simple step process. The high-grade additives dissolved powder residue, old lubrication, and other contaminants, providing a thorough clean that also penetrated deep into rust to free up rusted parts.
What truly stood out were the superior anti-wear additives that reduced friction and wear, paired with the unique waterproof, super slick film that resisted blow out and extended firearm life. Although the grease had a strong scent, a little went a long way, and the needle oiler made it easier to apply in hard-to-reach spots. Overall, Lucas Oil Extreme Duty CLP proved to be a reliable and efficient gun cleaner, and the positive reviews I encountered from other customers supported these claims.

🔗Eco-Friendly FrogLube CLP Treatment Kit for Firearms

https://preview.redd.it/w1esu3ohpp1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3417335d78425a4c59ee591860a385d094ef71ea
I recently gave the FrogLube CLP Tube Firearm Treatment Kit a try, and let me tell you, it was a game-changer for my firearms. The non-toxic, non-flammable, and non-hazardous formula, made from USDA approved food-grade ingredients, was a relief compared to other harsh chemical cleaners I've used in the past.
One of the standout features of this product is the heavy specific gravity, which allows the lube to deeply absorb into the metal pores, effectively eating rust and dissolving carbon. It's a pretty cool concept, and I must admit, it did an incredible job at cleaning my firearms.
The pleasant mint smell of the FrogLube treatment kit was a refreshing touch, making my daily firearm care routine feel a bit more like a spa day. Plus, it's environmentally friendly, biodegradable, and safe for disposal without the need for hazardous controls.
However, I did find the kit a bit on the pricey side compared to other gun cleaners in the market. But considering the quality and effectiveness of the product, I'd still say it's a worthwhile investment.
Overall, the FrogLube CLP Tube Firearm Treatment Kit has made my firearm cleaning routine more efficient and enjoyable. I highly recommend giving it a try if you're looking for a high-quality, eco-friendly, and user-friendly cleaner for your firearms.

🔗All-In-One CLP+ Graphene Lubricant and Cleaner for Firearms

Having used the Advanced CLP+ Graphene for a few weeks now, I have to say I'm quite impressed. The nano-coating infused with Graphene really provides relentless lubrication and protection for my entire firearm. I noticed a significant reduction in buildup when firing semi or full-auto, allowing me to put more rounds down range without any issues. The formula's targeted cleaning performance ensures that it targets carbons, mineral deposits, metals, and tough residues - leaving no trace behind.
I've also tested it on various firearms, including assault rifles, long rifles, shotguns, and handguns, without any problems or damage to the finishes or parts. The ultra-durable nano protective shield created by Graphene does a fantastic job of providing anti-corrosion properties while smoothing the surface for easier clean-up. The CLP+ formulation is truly a game-changer for firearm enthusiasts and professionals alike.
One downside I've noticed is the product's availability - it seems to be a bit difficult to find at local stores or online marketplaces. However, once you find it, I highly recommend giving the Advanced CLP+ Graphene a try. Its state-of-the-art formulation and advanced technologies make it a top choice for firearm cleaner, lubricant, and protectant.

Buyer's Guide

CLP (Clean Lubricants and Products) lubricants are a type of lubricant designed to provide efficient and environmentally friendly lubrication. They are suitable for a wide range of applications, including industrial, automotive, and marine environments. These lubricants offer superior performance, longer service life, and reduced maintenance requirements compared to traditional lubricants. In this buyer's guide, we will go over the essential features, considerations, and advice for selecting the right CLP lubricant for your needs.

Important Features

Environmental Performance

One of the main advantages of CLP lubricants is their reduced environmental impact compared to traditional lubricants. Compatibility with Materials

CLP lubricants should be compatible with a wide range of materials, including metals, plastics, and ceramics, to prevent damage to equipment or parts used in the application. Ensure that the lubricant is suitable for the specific materials with which it will come into contact.

Temperature Resistance

The lubricant should remain effective over a broad range of temperatures, from high operating temperatures to extremely cold conditions. Look for lubricants with high thermal stability and resistance to the formation of sludge or wax deposits at elevated temperatures.

Ease of Use

The lubricant should be easy to apply and handle while maintaining its performance. Ensure that the lubricant has a suitable viscosity, pouring consistency, and can be applied using various methods such as spray, dip, or roll for more convenient use in diverse applications.

Considerations

Application Environment

The application environment, including temperature, pressure, and presence of moisture or contaminants, will play a significant role in determining the right CLP lubricant for your needs. Ensure that the lubricant you choose is suitable for your specific application conditions.

Material Compatibility

It is essential to consider the materials in contact with the lubricant. Ensure that the lubricant does not have any negative impact on the intended materials, either chemically or mechanically.

Performance Expectations

Understand your performance requirements, including the desired level of load capacity, wear resistance, and energy efficiency, and select a lubricant accordingly. Consider the operating conditions and expected service life to determine the right CLP lubricant for your application.

General Advice

Read Manufacturer Recommendations

Always consult the manufacturer's recommendations and specifications for the lubricant. This information will provide valuable insights into the product's properties and performance characteristics, helping you make the right choice for your specific application.

Trial and Monitor Performance

When introducing a new CLP lubricant, use a trial period to evaluate its effectiveness and compatibility. Monitor the lubricant's performance, assess any potential issues, and make adjustments as needed to ensure optimal performance.

2024.05.20 23:53 Slayrides Malzahar's Much Needed Changes (thoughts)

What’s up all!
I have been really thinking about the state of Malzahar over the past few months, and I find that as much as I love my main, he needs to be changed. Now I want to break this down into sections, as it should be laid out more thematically and appropriate to real champion design changes.

Before that, I want to state my credentials:

  1. Have been playing League since beta
  2. Have played in basically every rank at some point or another, playing Malzahar in every one of those.
  3. Currently ranked peak is Masters, currently D1 in current season
  4. I can respect strengths and weaknesses of the champ without having a “my champ” mindset

Malzahar Lore in current abilities

Issues with Malzahar currently

(NEW) Suggested rework options (will keep names the same if it’s a similar idea, otherwise would rename accordingly)

Consensus

The way I imagine this would work is to really bring the void of Malzahar forward. I think allowing us to see more of the void involved would be great. I think both styles would keep so much of his identity as this poke/dot character, but also bring him into relevancy with current champ design. I don’t think it makes him too complex, but rather just gives complexity to the character that’s currently missing. Instead of having the voidlings feel useless, we can allow them to play a bigger role, while feeling like you “control the void” or rather are at least ok with the void. The first iteration I think focuses more on current gameplay, but actually could make him feel smoother to play potentially. Focusing more on recasting visions for big team fight vision spreads, and letting you really “spread the word” of the void lol.
The second iteration I thought would focus more on these creatuers of the void they said he can control. Giving a new identity to the character in a sense. Allowing you still feel the malzahar dot power, but also feel like your ultimate is everything malz sees. It’s the destruction and oblivion coming forward and leaving havoc in its wake. I think the idea of focusing more on poke and empowering your ultimate or farming now gives you decision making. Originally I imagine you permanently increase the voidhemoth forever moving forward, but I think it makes more sense to have each iteration need to be empowered independently. Scaling of course. But it incentivizes a more aggressive playstyle with high upside.

Now, I know Riot wouldn’t probably touch any of this and doesn’t care to read over another “champion rework design” but MAYBE they’ll see some ideas here and at least start toying with Malzahar to bring him into relevancy.

2024.05.20 17:31 JElevons Just finished the campaign; my thoughts as a gamedev and Homeworld fan (long post)

So first I should preface this with my bias; I've been a Homeworld fan since the 1999 release when I was 10 years old. Now I'm 35 and have started my own family - so it's been a crazy journey. Homeworld was instrumental in my career, passions, everything. The reason I'm a dev now is because I learned to mod because of Homeworld. So to say I'm biased towards liking the series is probably an understatement.
Another bias I have is that I strongly prefer Homeworld 1 over Homeworld 2, for many reasons. When I played Homeworld 3 I was dimly aware that there was some negative sentiment that it removed features from Homeworld 2 that players enjoyed. I have not read any of the online discourse since getting the game: I wanted to go in completely fresh-eyed.
With that out of the way I'll also save everyone some time: I absolutely loved Homeworld 3. It was what we were hoping for with Homeworld 2: Dust Wars and I am here for it. For newer fans of the series, or fans that might not know, Dust Wars was demoed in 2008...ish? It introduced the megaliths and the concept of fighting within giant space structures. Then it was scrapped because of tech limitations at the time and that's why Homeworld 2 had to restart it's development halfway through.
So Homeworld 3 is basically what Homeworld 2 was supposed to be and IMO it nails it. Here are my thoughts. For all of them I'm going to start with the areas I could see improving and then talk about the areas I thought it did well because in my opinion it did so much well that I just want to get the could-be-improved stuff out of the way first.
Story:
Could be improved:
  1. The cutscene where Karan and Imogen foreshadowed the lullaby cypher felt a bit stilted. When Karan says "I know goodbyes are hard. Let me sing our lullaby", it just felt forced.
  2. There was a pretty big logical leap right after we met Karan. I thought the reunion between the two was heartwarming and well-voice acted. Karan says: "The queen is coming for the sajuuk's progenitor cores...she will be able to harness the energy from the entire gate network. Nearly infinite power" and then Imogen replies with "in that moment her systems would be open...and we could override...if we were very close to her temple." it's a huge unprompted logical jump. I have no idea why she would say that other than to move the story along.
  3. At the end of the final mission I felt like it wasn't really communicated that we would also be stuck there. What does it mean that our cores were overloaded? Are they permanently damaged? I also don't feel like it was well communicated as to why Karan had to join the Queen. I assumed it's because her cores were used. Regardless of the reasons I really liked this part of the story, see below.
  4. Karan/Imogen's line "To be Hiigaran is to never be alone" is a little cheesy but hey it's spaceships and laser guns, I didn't mind. :)
  5. EDIT: This post (https://www.reddit.com/homeworld/comments/1cwidye/comment/l4wg6vz/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=mweb3x&utm\_name=mweb3xcss&utm\_term=1&utm\_content=share\_button) really made me rethink the ending from a different perspective; the forgiveness of the queen was really underserved at the end of the game. By that point I had forgotten about the billions of people she murdered and now that this poster brings it up it cheapens the stakes and is honestly very out of character for Karan, so I've adjusted my rating on this one. the story, IMO is still a lot of fun and if you replace her killing billions with maybe, IDK, conquering planets or something or holding hyperspace hostage, the story would still be good IMO. But this hole is just so large it knocks the whole thing down. It was enjoyable and it hasn't been lessened for me but yea, objectively it's a major flaw.
Now that that's out of the way - The Awesome:
  1. The story was really character driven, much more so than in any other games in the series and I thought it was done really ll. Powerful female leads working with an immensely intelligent male lead. Everyone's motivations made sense and they reacted logically to lots of situations. I really loved the villain but we'll talk about her in a bit.
  2. I felt like the transhumanist themes were really interesting and this game dove deep into what it might be like in the Homeworld universe to essentially become a living starship, capable of hyperspace flight. We really looked at what it would mean for a human consciousness to grow to the size of a living starship. It also ties in well with the Queen's arc; how she had been elevated to godhood and found herself all alone, abandoned by her people. What would it be like to have the power of a god but only have yourself to talk to about it?
  3. The Queen and Karan literally ascending into hyperspace was also a very cool thought. Literally moving to the next plane of existence by existing in another reality. What gods could we become?
  4. Fleet Intelligence was well acted and worked really well with Fleet Command. It was refreshing to see two professionals working together for a common goal, which you don't usually see in contemporary media anymore.
  5. I think the Queen was a solid villain. Her motivations were simple but easily understandable and extended from the trauma of being used and abandoned by her people. Her and Karan's arc remind me a bit of a Terry Pratchett book called "Small Gods". In it, the villain is a monstrous head of the church, torturing etc. The hero of the book, Brother, ends up killing him and restoring the church to a more peaceful path, becoming a prophet of their god Ohm. When he dies 100 years later, he finds his former enemy lost in the sands of eternity and rather than ascending to heaven himself, takes pity on him and walks with him. I felt like regardless of why Karan had to join her, I feel like her doing so was a really complex character moment and humanized an enemy that would have otherwise been a very simplistic villain. I appreciated it.
Art/Technical Design:
Could be improved:
  1. I felt like Imogen was pretty oversexualized. She was basically naked, down to showing individual toes. She could have at least had maybe more average features?
  2. Not a huge fan of the unit designs. I like the idea of the Hiigaran ship being designed to a top-down profile and the Incaranate to a side profile. However I feel like the Hiigaran ships lacked interesting silhouettes and the Incarnate were very overwright with way too many lines. I think the two factions adhered too strictly to horizontal/vertical profiles and should have mixed it up more. Witnes the original Taiidan ships, which IMO are the pinnacle of Homeworld ship design but I know that's subjective.
  3. Unit pathfinding is pretty dumb.
The Awesome:
  1. Cutscene characters were great and it's awesome to see the evolution from hand-drawn black and white, to hand drawn color, to color CGI mimicking hand drawn to full CGI standing on it's own, with still a little bit of that limited movement from a hand drawn animatic.
  2. Some really amazing shots, the one where the mothership broke free of the ice was beautiful and really sticks out in my mind. The build up of cosmic "sand" in the bowels of the great megaliths, or the perspective of seeing massive capital ships dwarfed by gigantic planar objects they move across. The environments really told a story and were so well crafted to the mood of the levels.
  3. The blend of technical and artistic design is so beautiful and uniquely Homeworld. The vast windswept frozen planes, the deep clouds and volumetric shadows, the bright flares as explosions rip apart massive warships; technically speaking from every aspect the game is gorgeous.
  4. The megaliths are just really inspirational and I absolutely love them.
UX:
Could be improved:
  1. If you don't turn on unit health bars it is really hard to see what ships you have selected.
  2. Sometimes I would auto-select multiple units of a single type and that was frustrating.
  3. The concept of formation or group leads was never really explained, would be nice to see.
The Awesome:
  1. Love the flexibility in the camera and gameplay systems.
  2. The ship selection system combines the best elements of Homeworld 2 (picture icons) and Homeworld 1 (grouping similar ship types instead of showing an icon for each one). Personally I still prefer the text list of Homeworld 1 but ya gotta change with the times.
  3. I really enjoyed the menus and how they plus the in-game interface felt very advanced and technically competent.
Gameplay:
I'll just generally talk about this one. I really enjoyed it - the megaliths offer an exciting new challenge and I like how the idea of terrain close maneuvering is expanded on in the manual lore. It gives you a lot more tactical freedom and flexibility compared to old school deep space slugfests. The fact that ballistics simulations seem to be back is amazing. I think the pairing down of features from Homeworld 2 was great; upgrades are simple and attached to the ship they're applied to, they don't have a lot of variations, etc. I know some people miss subsystem targeting but tbh I never used it and I don't care that it's gone. I love that we have real individual units back and real formations. The gameplay is much more 3D, like the original Homeworld. Homeworld 2 felt super flat. Now we even have directional damage.
I can't comment on game balance because I've only played the campaign and it was on Medium so I absolutely plowed through it. In the final level the Titan vessel could only launch two or three frigates before being dropped to 50% health and having to retreat. So any comments I have on balance wouldn't really be relevant to the overall game.
Overall I just really, really like this game. It feels like they took all the stuff they added in Homeworld 2 that to me made it less Homeworld and removed or refined them. Then they went back to Homeworld 1 and Homeworld 2: Dust Wars and just took all of that into the modern day. It's a great experience and I'd highly recommend it. My personal Homeworld series rankings would be:
I would give Homeworld 3:
Story (EDITED): 6.5/10
Art: 9/10
UX: 9.5/10
Gameplay: 10/10

2024.05.20 11:44 SevenKayLive Beat Armored Core 4 using Sunshine only (First Playthrough Review)

Spoiler, obviously.
So I finished AC6 a few months ago, probably my favourite game of 2023, and started playing AC4 a few days ago (PAL version on Xenia using Xbox Controller). Here's some of my notes in points, hope y'all like it!
  1. I like the vibe of the game. There aren't many games nowadays that portray such a bleak and apocalyptic world. The lore is very interesting but I don't seem to find much discussions about it online.
  2. The graphics suck but the empty art style really suits the game. I always wanted to play a game that's in color but still so devoid of color that it looks almost b&w, AC4 is probably not the best in this category but it was a refreshing look.
  3. Pretty questionable level designs in some levels such as the RM bridge (I hate that if you drop off the bridge, for some builds it's basically mission failure) and the underground silo level (the speed and camera doesn't suit this type of level). But weirdly, I loved the open or empty levels with scattered or centred huge objectives.
  4. I love the music. The fact that a niche japanese robot game has it's own in house band and they make so unique and vibe rock music... It really doesn't happen these days! (Closest maybe starlord from GOTG, health from Max Payne 3 and obviously AC6 Disc 3)
  5. I'm pretty disappointed with buildcraft coming from AC6. The moment I chose Sunshine 2 with arm integrated bazookas on chapter 3 the game really dropped the ball. I tried other weapons such as Gatling (my favourite in AC6 was using dual Gatling and holding R1 L1 while screaming my balls of), MG and AR (they are so ineffective but more that they don't feel good to me in AC4, AC6 dual MG was fun), blades don't have enough tracking and shotguns don't feel punch enough here unlike dual zimmermans. The two missiles in this build is also too effective without any movement penalty like songbirds (my favourite in AC6 alongside the stun needle). Overall, AC4 weapons just don't feel... Cool yk.
  6. The ending was pretty abrupt, Joshua doesn't have nowhere near enough dialogue throughout the game to be a final boss.
  7. I know that old AC have turning speed associated with leg parts but I really, really hated it after coming from AC6, I almost quit the game because how slow the right stick felt. This was easily the best QOL change is AC6.
  8. I know everyone's like Regular B is the best control scheme but I wish there was some autoboost along with maybe some auto-swap-and-fire for the back weapons that'd work without breaking the intended difficulty of the game (AC4 was obviously built with the weapon changing time in mind and firing 4 weapons at once would break the difficulty).
Overall, I did like the game inspite of the flaws and look forward to playing for answer. I've heard it fixes most of the issues. If anyone has more recommendations for games like this I'd appreciate. Thanks for reading!
