2024.05.21 14:38 como365 Measles survivor becomes vaccine champion

Measles survivor becomes vaccine champion
When Barbara Leonhard was just 6 years old, her life took an intense turn as she and two of her siblings contracted measles during one of the most severe outbreaks in history. Like hundreds of thousands of other children in 1958, all three siblings experienced the typical symptoms of measles.
“I remember the red spots and feeling miserable,” Leonhard, a Columbia native, said.
But Leonhard’s condition quickly escalated into something far more serious: encephalitis, a dangerous inflammation of the brain.
She suddenly found herself unable to walk.
“I remember being energetic and then suddenly, I couldn’t even climb the stairs. My legs gave out when I was sent upstairs to fetch something for my mother,” Leonard said. “It was terrifying.”
Leonhard slipped into a coma that lasted for almost 30 days. During that time, her family was engulfed in several crises. Her father was preoccupied with caring for his own father, who was battling brain cancer, while also attending to his duties as a minister.
Leonhard’s mother, with a newborn and two other sick children, was stretched to her limits.
“She had to manage everything,” Leonhard said. “There were days I was left under a makeshift tent of blankets with a steamer to help ease my breathing because of the pneumonia risk that comes with measles and encephalitis.”
This period was not only a test of physical endurance for Leonhard but also a profound isolation from normal childhood experiences. When she awoke from the coma, the world as she knew it had irrevocably changed. She found herself unable to walk or talk properly, her movements restricted, her speech impaired.
“I was paralyzed. I could hardly talk. All the words I could see in my mind, but they came out like baby talk,” she said.
Doctors informed her parents that she would never walk again. “They said it right in front of me,” Leonhard said, the memory still vivid.
With a resilience that defied the odds, after she turned 7, Leonhard taught herself to walk again. With no professional rehabilitation available, she began her arduous journey. She used furniture for support, painstakingly moving from one piece to the next, each small shuffle a victory.
Leonhard’s struggles made her a committed advocate for public awareness of the risks of measles and the importance of vaccination.
Her recovery is a rare case. Her journey was marked by gradual milestones, yet some limitations have persisted throughout her life.
While she regained the ability to walk, years later she still faces difficulties with activities that require sudden movements or physical agility. “These kinds of movements are just too difficult for me,” Leonhard said.
The aftermath of encephalitis left a lasting impact on her cognitive functions, particularly affecting her memory and learning capabilities. These challenges cast a long shadow over her school experiences, contributing to a significant lack of confidence.
“I struggled to remember things and I had to work three times harder than everyone else just to keep up,” Leonhard said.
Despite these difficulties, Leonhard found solace and expression in writing poetry, which became a vital outlet for her thoughts and emotions. This creative pursuit not only provided a therapeutic escape but also helped her forge a unique academic and career path.
“It was how I made sense of my world, the challenges I faced, and it was deeply fulfilling,” she said.
Leonhard’s academic path was marked by resilience and success, despite initial doubts about her capabilities. She attended Lake Superior State College in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, for her undergraduate degree in English language, graduating with honors.
She continued her education in Missouri, earning her master’s degree at MU in English language and linguistics, with honors once again.
“Despite some people’s doubts, I managed to excel academically, earning honors and disproving the skeptics,” Leonhard said.
In her professional life, Leonhard leveraged her skills and experiences to build a successful career focused on language and education. She was instrumental in developing an English program, which she led for many years, helping countless students from diverse backgrounds to improve their language skills.
“My career has been about helping others find their voice, much like I had to find mine,” Leonhard said. “Every student I helped was a reminder of my journey from that hospital bed to where I am now.”
Leonhard continues to advocate for public awareness about the risks of measles and the importance of vaccination.
“I write and speak about these issues because I want people to understand the real risks,” Leonhard said. “If sharing my story can encourage even one person to vaccinate their child, then it’s worth it.”
In her efforts to spread awareness, Leonhard has published a book titled “Three Penny Memories: A Poetic Memoir,” which interweaves her experiences with encephalitis and her mother’s struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. The memoir serves as a poignant reminder of the long-term effects of illnesses and the human capacity for resilience and recovery.
In addition to her writing, Leonhard is actively involved in vaccination advocacy through her collaborations with organizations like Encephalitis International based in the U.K. The society reaches a global audience, providing information and support for individuals affected by encephalitis. Leonhard contributes by sharing her story on their platform, participating in events and using social media to raise public awareness about the importance of vaccinations.
Her commitment to this cause is underscored by alarming statistics. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, measles, mumps and rubella vaccination rates in the U.S. have decreased from 95% in the 2019-2020 school year to 93.1% in 2022-2023. This decline has left an additional 250,000 children at risk for measles.
The urgency of Leonhard’s message is amplified by the fact that measles can lead to severe complications such as encephalitis, which occurs in as many as three out of every 1,000 children infected by the virus. Among these cases, 10-15% result in death, and 25% suffer permanent neurological damage.
“Many people think that measles is a harmless childhood illness — it is not,” said Ava Easton, chief executive of Encephalitis International. “In addition to complications that may include long-term vision problems, pneumonia and encephalitis, which may require hospital treatment and lead to long-term disability or death, measles is so contagious that just a single infected person can infect nine people who are unvaccinated or never had the illness. By comparison, someone with COVID-19 may infect up to three other unvaccinated people. It is vital that parents and caregivers seek advice about the MMR vaccine and other routine childhood immunizations not only for the benefit of their own child’s health, but for the health of others.”
Leonhard emphasized the devastating potential of measles, not just as a childhood illness but as a public health threat capable of causing widespread harm. She says vaccination is essential, not only to protect individual health but also to safeguard communities against preventable diseases. Her work aligns with broader efforts to counteract misinformation and vaccine hesitancy, which have become significant barriers to achieving herd immunity in many areas.
“I cannot stress enough the critical importance of vaccinations,” Leonhard said. “Measles isn’t just a rash and a fever – it can lead to serious, life-altering conditions like the encephalitis I suffered. We must use our knowledge and tools to protect not just ourselves but also the most vulnerable among us.”

2024.05.21 14:28 mgttc9 First ER results 29F/33M with low AMH and low morphology

Hi all, I've looked at a ton of hunger games results throughout this process and figured I'd throw mine in as well. I also love details so I tried to include everything even potentially relevant.
Results 20ish follicles 15 retrieved 14 mature 11 fertilized with ICSI 7 blasts frozen (2 day 5s, 4 day 6s, 1 day 7)
Context We have been TTC for 3.5 years with no pregnancies. Treatment history includes 5 medicated TI cycles and 3 IUIs (all with letrozole).
My spouse had low T discovered 1.5 years ago and has been successfully medicated with clomid and anastrozole for low sperm count. Motility is good but he consistently has 0-1% morphology. My RE defaults to ICSI for any MFI (zymot was not mentioned).
My usual AMH is around 0.8ng/ml and my AFC is around 10. A few months ago my AMH was randomly 1.8ng/ml and my AFC at baseline for my ER was zero after 3 weeks on birth control. My RE hoped for 5-8 eggs from this cycle.
Protocol My RE insisted 0 AFC was not a problem to move forward and started me on 300IU follistim and 150IU menopur for the first 5 days. On day 6 of stims, they saw 24 growing follicles which was a huge surprise.
Added ganirelix that day and dropped to 225 follistim and 75 menopur; further dropped follistim to 150 on day 8 when they counted around 20 follicles.
Last monitoring appointment and doses of follistim/menopur were on day 9 and we triggered with 10,000IU HCG the following night (shout-out to my husband for jabbing that huge needle in my butt at 1:00am on Mother's Day lol).
Continued ganirelix daily through ER and the following week. Also added letrozole and cabergoline to prevent OHSS. Had a standard course of antibiotics (doxycycline).
Symptoms and side effects On stims, my biggest side effect was feeling crazy emotional. Everything had me crying or raging. The constipation hit me like a truck on stim day 9 and lasted a week after ER.
That whole week I was bloated and uncomfortable and it took a few days for my ovaries to calm down. I drank a lot of electrolytes, took my prescribed meds, and did not develop OHSS.
Genetic testing and future plans PGT-A was a complicated decision but we ultimately decided not to test. We are hoping for one child and do not plan on another ER at this time.

2024.05.21 14:18 okthanxbai I told my boyfriend to fix things

I’ve (37F) been with my (32M) boyfriend for 2.5 years now. It’s been tumultuous, and often just downright toxic. To make things more complicated, I’m 6 months pregnant with his child.
He’s in the habit of losing his s*** over small things, and when he does, I’m often the target of rage. In those moments, he says hurtful things, yells at me, and I end up crying and nothing I say helps the situation.
Today we had a whole day planned. We had to stop and get his phone fixed. He said he’d run into the repair shop, and told me to go to the grocery store next door and get a few things. I asked how we should meet back up since his phone isn’t working. He said he’d come find me.
I got the necessary items and put my basket down so I could go to the washroom. (I’m pregnant and have to pee every 5 minutes). I came back out and continued shopping. I was getting a couple oranges when I saw him walking outside and looking around. I left my basket and chased him, calling his name.
He was furious that he couldn’t find me in the store. He refused to do anything else with me for the entire day. On the drive home, he was yelling, talking about how I don’t care about him, and how dating me is like dealing with a goldfish.
He hid away when we got home. I was depressed and crying for an hour…. And then I got angry. It’s a holiday today and now my plans are ruined all because of a 10 minute ordeal. I started cleaning instead. I put on angry girl music and rocked out as I cleaned. I thought about the nasty things he’s said to me, today and in the past.
After a while he came down and asked what was going on? Why was I doing that? Why aren’t I trying to fix things? Why is the dirty fridge more important? Why was I being like this? Eventually he dropped to the floor and started crying. He was begging me for sympathy and love. He said he needed help.
Everything he said was making me more angry. I said these were my new plans since he disappeared on me. At least this way he didn’t have to deal « with a goldfish ». I was being very cold. I told him I wasn’t going to let him f*** with me anymore and I wasn’t playing his game. He asked why I wasn’t trying to fix things. I told him « why don’t YOU fix things for once? Fix this permanently! » I was ready to break up if he didn’t go seek medical help.
He said « fine I’ll fix things permanently » and he stormed out of the house on foot.
I let him go because I was so angry. But after a few minutes the conversation replayed and I realized how my words could be misconstrued… He’s a highly troubled guy who has had ideations in the past. I hopped in my vehicle and went looking for him for an hour. I even followed an ambulance because I was so worried.
When I couldn’t find him, I came back to see if he was home. He was. But he wouldn’t let me come near him. He said I didn’t get to act like I cared after I said that to him. I told him that’s not what I meant, but he won’t hear it. He insists he knows what I meant and I can’t go back on it now. We haven’t spoke since.
I don’t know what to do with this guy. He suffers from mental health problems but refuses to do anything about it beyond reading self-help books about spirituality, and working out. This isn’t the first or even 10th fight we’ve had like this. I’m having a baby girl and I know she can’t see this nonsense, but I don’t know how I will financially survive.
I’m seeing a counsellor.

[First year university: Circuit analysis] Why isn't the resistance zero?
The problem goes as follows: In the AC circuit in the image we know that e(t) = 4cos(ωt) V , i(t) = Im(cosωt), ( Im > 0 ) and ωL = 10Ω. Voltage u leads the EMF e by pi/2. Find the reactive power of the voltage source.
So if we write the voltage source in complex form we get that it's 2*sqrt(2)V. If the voltage u leads by pi/2 wouldn't it mean that it's purely reactive (real part equals zero)?

2024.05.21 13:49 DeeplyMoisturising Getting over complicated feelings from sudden friendliness from mom as an adult

Growing up I was given the usual "I'm not your friend, I'm your mother" spiel. I wasn't allowed to talk to her because I "shouldn't bother her with my childish and girly problems" (a big part of her horrible treatment towards me was misogyny - she was very accomodating with my brothers). Honestly I figured out pretty early on that she hated me so it wasn't so bad, I actually did prefer to not be so friendly with her. So she pretty much has known nothing about me all my life other than what you'd find on government documents, like my job, my degree etc. Doesn't know any of my friends. Never met any boyfriend or girlfriend. Doesn't know anything about my hobbies or interests, aside from maybe cooking, since I like to cook for everyone when I have time. Though I obviously have issues from physical abuse and general scapegoatery as a boymom's only daughter, this particular setup has never been a problem for me. She is such a judgemental person and always had something negative to say so I loved that I could keep my life private from her.
Now I'm not American, and in my culture we don't really move out until we get married. So I've lived with her for 27 years and pretty much only ate and slept at home, and lived the majority of my life outside of it. She is now 55, and in recent years many of her work and sports friends are my age or close to it - she is extremely fit, meets lots of new people at sports events, and is actually very sociable and friendly to people who are not her daughter. Lately she has been doing very gross things to me, things she does with her friends, like holding my hand or giving me a hug. She has NEVER EVER done that before. It makes me feel uncomfortable. We'll be at the grocery store and suddenly she'll wrap her arm around mine. Eugh. While at dinner she'll suddenly tell me how smart I am, how I could do anything I set my mind to, that I could reach my dreams. Wtf. This woman used to tell me I'm so stupid that I'll never amount to anything and to kms. I can't even look at her these days, she is acting so damn weird. And despite the lack of affection I have for her I actually feel bad when I push her away. Despite the abuse she's still the reason I live a comfortable life today. She still slaved day and night for me like a typical mother. I was abused but not neglected, do you get what I mean? In fact I was spoiled, materially speaking. Never denied anything I asked for. Like I have some issues and some trauma but I'm still grateful, you know? My feelings are complicated.
Our previous setup was so perfect, I could show her my gratefulness for raising me by cooking, contributing to the bills, keeping house, all while being emotionally distant, without having to hurt her. It's like NC except we live together and I can take care of her and dad. Just the way I like it. Do I give her the "I'm not your friend, I'm your daughter" spiel?

2024.05.21 13:24 Pristine_Cookie5635 New PC builder needing some help :)

Hi, I’m brand new to PC building and I thought I would give it a go but I’ve run into a snag.
My specs:
Case: deep cool CC560 V2 mid tower - NEW CPU: AMD Ryder 5 5600 with wraith fan - NEW PSU: Corsair CV650 80 Plus bronze non modular ATX 650 - NEW RAM: crucial pro DDR4 RAM 32GB (2x16GB) 3200 MHz - NEW Motherboard: MSI AMD B550M Pro-VDH Wi-Fi - Pre Owned SSD: Samsung PM981A MZ VLB1TB SSD M.2 2280 NVMe PCLe 3.0 - Pre owned Graphics card: Asus Dual Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 ti V2 mini 8GB GDDR6 - Pre owned (barely used).
Hi, so I put this all together with a helpful YouTube video and I think everything was put together correctly, there was nothing too complicated. Everything ran when I turned it on and I got it to start on the MSI pro series and on there everything seemed to be recognised and running.
I tried installing windows 10, then my problems started happening. I downloaded the windows media creation tool onto a 32Gb USB and tried to install that. It ran the USB and I could go through the early steps like accepting T+Cs and choosing a language and putting my product key in. After it installs my PC restarts which is what it says it will do but then it just keeps restarting with an error saying ‘the computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed’. I switched it on and off again and reinstalled windows but that didn’t work. I tried installing the media creation tool on my housemates laptop and that didn’t work. I’ve updated the drivers for my motherboard and I’ve played around with (enabling/disabling) all the BIOS settings and restored them to default.
I’ve tried windows 11 and that put me into recovery mode. I tried using the start up repair but that instantly crashes. I’ve asked chatGPT for some checks to put into command prompt and all the checks have been successful and nothing came out wrong. I’ve taken out one RAM module at a time, changing where I plug my USB stick in and changing my SSD slot. I changed my USB from fat 32 to NTFS. None of these worked and so I installed a pre installation diagnostic tool using Rufus called Hiren’s bootCD, but that had the exact same problem with windows where it couldn’t boot. I assume it is a hardware problem from my lack of experience.
Anyway sorry for the super long message, I’m very new to this and any help would be much appreciated 😊

2024.05.21 13:15 Formal_Engineer_2075 can someone share thei thoughts on this? 🙏

I struggle(d) with addiction to online sex, attachment trauma, no history of committed relationship, some other mental health issues, broadly speaking some emotional abuse and sexual assault that I don't know if and how it affected me, and last risky sexual behavior with stranger that was self-harm behavior probably. I am into BDSM but the addiction led me to selling my body..
I'm telling all of this cause it might affect another issue I have with my sexual orientation. I had HOCD after discovering some sexual experiences in the past weren't consensual. When I was treated for HOcD the doubts diminished but the "false arousal" toward particular women remained. I didn't stress about it anymore. But lately I do because I want to fantasise about a specific guy and fantasies about girls make me orgasm much faster and harder.. I really like him but it's complicated as always. I feel anxiously attached to men, but deactivate before a relationship can form. We actually met when I was selling myself, but he's a great guy with his own issues. Things became more intimate with us but sexually I was mostly attached to my online escapades and not with him too much. After some dates I srxually shut down. it's not that I didn't enjoy it though. I cried after the date and before I dreamt of a sexual assault. But also I felt like maybe I should feel more aroused by the sex and I blamed it on not having explored our kinks fully which are very similar.
I also had phone sex with a guy who is sexually Dom and I came so hard I was shaking. But I usually struggle with feeling that electric sexual feeling with men although I like having sex it doesn't arouse me so stronglycompared to the fantasies with women, also tingly sensations around some women, whereas with men the arousal would follow the desire to be intimate. I enjoy giving BJ, but penetration can feel difficult sometimes also receiving oral isn't too great but maybe I have my specific techniques and when someone employed it it was great with their hands..

2024.05.21 13:06 DrThuglove Lights randomly get weak and pulse, then electricity cuts out

Apologies in advance as I know nothing about home electricity. We are in the US and rent an apartment in a 100 year old building. Several months ago the electricity on one circuit (half our kitchen, the main bedroom, and bathroom) started to appear weak. By this I mean flicking on the lights would turn on a low light that pulsed, like it was trying to draw power but there wasn't enough. Appliances would turn on and then off immediately. I deduced that there was something wrong with our step down converter (220v to 110v) that we used for a Nespresso we had brought back to the US after living abroad. I unplugged it and replaced the appliance with a US made one. Everything started working fine again.
Two months later, the pulsing started again. Flipping the breaker fixes this, but it will start up again later. I tried unplugging different things to see if they were affecting the electricity. After everything was unplugged, it worked fine and I could plug things back in again, only to have the issue start again after a day or so. Eventually the power on this circuit cuts out entirely.
My landlord sent an electrician to look but he did not speak English well and was just a kid - not sure of his actual qualifications. I tried to convey the issue, but this was after I had recently flipped the breaker and his response was there there was no problem now so all good.
Any idea what's going on? Could this be a deeper issue? The power worked fine on this circuit for 2 years and nothing new has been added. The largest power draws are likely my wife's computer and monitor in the bedroom.

2024.05.21 13:04 ozone_ghost Movies that can help Kids learn Programming Abilities

Movies that can help Kids learn Programming Abilities
I want to start posting movies that could inspire kids to get into programming.
To start, here are three movies that can introduce kids to some programming concepts and mindsets:

1. War Games (1983)

What it teaches: Importance of perseverance, problem-solving, thinking outside the box, and the value of trying different approaches even if they seem unlikely.
Story: The movie follows a young hacker, David Lightman (played by Matthew Broderick), who unknowingly accesses a U.S. military supercomputer programmed to simulate and control nuclear war scenarios.
Persistance and Outside the box thinking: David's determination shines when he uses social engineering and a brute-force attack to guess the password to a restricted system. He meticulously tries various combinations until he cracks it, demonstrating the value of persistence and thinking outside the box.
https://preview.redd.it/po0hlxxcdr1d1.jpg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fd85971a597fcc12c67850232cc57d56296cbc45
Hacker Mindset: Another pivotal moment is when David is captured and held in a military base. Using his wits and knowledge of technology, he manages to escape a locked room by short-circuiting an electronic door lock. This scene showcases his ingenuity and ability to think outside the box, traits that are crucial for any programmer and problem solver.
During the movie, David, tries different approaches even if they seem unlikely or naive, a great skill that we tend to lose in formal education.

2. Tron (1982)

What it teaches: Visualizes abstract programming concepts like programs, firewalls, and bits as tangible, interactive elements.
Story: The movie's protagonist, Kevin Flynn (played by Jeff Bridges), is a computer programmer who gets digitized and enters the virtual realm. "Tron" transports viewers into a digital world where programs are personified and interact within a computer system.
3D Representation of Programming Elements: Tron visualizes abstract programming concepts like programs, firewalls, and bits as tangible, interactive elements. This visualization can help kids understand these concepts better. Two examples: The character Tron (Bruce Boxleitner) represents a security program, and Bit is a small, binary entity that can only say "yes" or "no."
Bit: yes. no. yes. no. yes, yes, yes, yes, yes
With my 4-year-old son, we took inspiration from "Tron" to create these elements using LEGO toys, turning abstract programming concepts into physical objects. For instance, we represented a variable as a cuboid that could hold values. I have evolved this idea into a board game to teach the fundamentals of programming and it really helps him to see, touch and manipulate concepts.
Tron Recognizer using Lego bricks.

3. Tron: Legacy (2010)

(Might be more suitable for older children).
What it teaches: Artificial life, evolutionary algorithms, evolution strategies, evolutionary programming, and genetic algorithms, Game of Life, origin of life, morphogenesis.
Story: "Tron: Legacy" continues the story, this time focusing on Kevin Flynn's son, Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund), who enters the digital world to find his missing father.
Evolutionary Algorithms: The movie introduces ISOs (Isomorphic Algorithms), a spontaneously generated form of digital life within the Grid. This concept can help children discover artifitial life, artifitial intelligence, evolutionary algorithms etc.
Artificial Life: The spontaneous generation of life within electronic components/chips, as portrayed by the ISOs, brings the question of what is life and the possibility of life existing inside a digital / electronic world.
BTW: Could you tell a quote by Joshua (WOPR) in WarGames and Kevin Flynn in Tron Legacy that are almost identical?

I hope you enjoyed it!
Do you have other movies you would like to share that could help kids learn programming or develop a programming mindset?

2024.05.21 13:00 MornCoffeeEvnWhisky Sudden Shin Splints on Treadmill.

Hi there Looking for some series advice. I just started the gym about 3 weeks ago. Im currently overweight (190lb) and looking to lose about 25lbs, While trying to maintain muscle.
Im sitting on about 1300, 1400 Calories a day, with a lot of protein.
My routine at the gym goes - 2 Mile Run @ 1.5 Incline while sometimes pushing it doing 3-4 Miles. Then after this hitting the full body circuit training on manageable weights.
My problem started over the past week or so. I started jogging on the mill at about 5MPh, But steadily increased this to about 6.5 - 7MPH as my fitness increased. The first week and a half two weeks my legs were in pain from starting up, however now Im getting debilitating shin splits in my LEFT leg ONLY. At this very moment Im sitting in the Sauna shaking my head after a 1.5Mile run in excruciating pain which have caused me to cut my session short (again). I purchased some compression socks yesterday but that has only made the issue/pain worse it feels like.
Ive always had issues with shin splints, but only running outside, Hence why I chose to go to gym instead of running outdoors.
However, Now it seems its transferring over to the treadmill.
Any advice on what to do?

2024.05.21 12:50 DeusExPersona Casual modes need to be on a weekly rotation

I'm seeing a couple of things on the sub and in game that I would like to expand on a little bit, and see what you guys think about them.
There's been a couple of posts in here asking for Terminal Attack to be a permanent mode in the casual section of the game. At the same time, Powershift's been a permanent more for about 3 months now, Bank It and Quick Cash have been here since release.
I would like to argue that this has been hurting the game more than helping, by quite a bit of a margin.
To start off, I would like to ask you: What thefinals is more known for? Most of you will probably answer with "whining" and/or "nerf/buff complaints". A small minority will probably think of "Circuit challenge complaints".
I think all of the above are issues which stem from he same place: the player base is too fractured.
The main reason behind this I think, is that we have way too many casual modes which are radically different from each other for a very extended amount of time. Let me make a few examples:
I could go on with the examples but you get the point. The problem for this fracture IMO is the very high variety of game modes which are very, very different from one another.
The Finals is primarily a Cashout game, hence the ranked mode also being a tournament Cashout mode. It would make the community much less tribalistic and balancing much easier if the casual modes (Quick Cash, Powershift, Bank It) were on rotation weekly, to lessen the impact they have on the game's balance and player frustration. It would also slowly make players integrate themselves into the main game mode so that they can get that "permanent mode" feeling when they feel like they need it.
So for example: Week 1 you can play Powershift, Week 2 Quick Cash, Week 3 Bank It and repeat.
I know people love these modes and some of you probably play them the whole time, but I would like your opinions on this. Do you think emphasizing the main game mode can help the game's and community's long term health?

2024.05.21 12:47 Formal_Engineer_2075 stressed about sexual orientation

Seeing women, I get a faster arousal by now, that was never there before HOCD but remainrd. I DON'T like the thought of eating them out at all, or being affectionate with a woman or being in a romantic relationship with them. But the sexual arousal and less sexual arousal with men is making me struggle.. until last week I was infatuated with the guy, we had issues we discussed and weren't in touch for some time, but I felt so anxious obsessed confused spacey ungrounded and I really wanted to be with him but so stressed too. now I feel blocked anddisconnected and I'm scared I'm lesbian or simply not attracted enough to men to have a relationship with them.

2024.05.21 12:40 -1Enkaiwa Crank no start 2014 F150 3.7L

Crank no start 2014 F150 3.7L
I’m no mechanic but I own a 2014 F150 with a 3.7L v6 with a crank no start problem with a check engine light. I pulled the codes and what I got: P025A : Fuel pump control module “A” control circuit/open U0121 : Lost Communication With Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Control Module U0131: Lost Communication With Power Steering Control Module U0140 : Lost Communication With Body Control Module U0154 : Lost Communication With Restraints Control Module U0154 : Lost Communication With Restraints Occupant Classification System Module P0230 : Fuel Pump Primary Circuit: Circuit Short To Ground or Open B1304 : Accessory delay relay circuit failure B11D8 : Restraint Event Notification: Circuit Short To Ground or Open U0151 : Lost Communication With Restraints Control Module U0184 : Lost Communication With Radio U0422 : Invalid Data Received From Body Control Module
The problem I have is with P025A, I came to find out P025A is a common problem with this gen F150s so I checked fuse 27 and the fuse is not burnt but still replaced the fuse, I also checked the passenger kick panel, all the connections is good there's no lose connections at all, ended up replacing the FPDM and replacing the fuel pump still nothing. The FPDM is receiving power also the fuel pump and I can hear the fuel pump kicking on. I changed the crank shaft position sensor as well, still crank no start. After all the parts changed and clear codes the P025A still pop up.
I don’t have a fuel pressure gauge to check fuel pressure but I pulled off the fuel line connector to the fuel rail, gas did shoot out. I also put a cup on the disconnected fuel line to catch the gas and had someone to cycle the key while I watch if gas is being sent to the engine and there is.
I’m at a loss right now. I can’t figure out the problem. I do have a feeling that the cause of the problem have to do with the codes U0140, U0151, U0154, P0230, and U0422. What I think is that there’s no communication between the BCM. I maybe wrong though.

2024.05.21 11:40 HappyPedro25 Voltage imbalances at random

long post
Hello,
I've been having issues with my system giving me voltage issues. It's an older house with the main and sub panel probably installed anywhere between 1980 - 2005. I've taken the time to remove all but one section of cloth wiring, and in doing so I've grounded a lot of my outlets. Almost immediately all my LED fixtures would dim periodically. There wasn't a specific time.
I've been through an apprenticeship and work at a theme park training electrical so I start troubleshooting. This includes: 1. Checking connections - everything I installed and some others, admittedly not every outlet. 2. Isolating breakers - I found a bad branch circuit that still is off because I have to re run that line. But the issue happens regardless of which breaker is off 3. Amperage measurements - here I found 2A on my main neutral line but all my equipment is coming back in spec. Everything seems fairly balanced, but I know residential isn't my wheel house.
So during this I notice that when the lights flickering its because I start getting up to 170v on one "phase" or side of my main/sub and a corresponding 80v. I changed out the breakers in my main panel but nothing in either panel looks obviously bad. I did have an electrician come out and he said there was an imbalance of 127v on one side and 122v on the other. Because of this he recommended installing a new main panel. As a final cherry on top last night I found that turning off a 50A breaker in the main that feeds my stove alleviated the voltage imbalance mostly. I still had a brief dim in my bathroom.
Sorry for the long post but I've been through a lot dealing with this and I feel like I'm going mad. At first I wasn't sold on the suggestion to replace the panel but at this point it sounds like the common denominator. I asked the power company if they do any recording, they said no. They did send a tech out and he said their stuff looked good. Any help is appreciated, I've already bought a new meter socket/ panel combo.

2024.05.21 11:03 federicookie I don't know what's going on lol (help)

Okay I don't even know how to start this so I'm going to do it as I can. Talking about this for me it's very difficult. I'll try to give as much context as I can because the situation is very complicated. I'm a 21 year old "guy" who is presumably a cis person. For several years, more or less since I was 15-16, I began to feel a certain disconnection with my gender and my physical appearance in general as well. I always thought it might be an age thing because feeling disconnected from your body is normal as a teenager, but more and more I'm realizing that maybe it's more than that. I was always a person with an attitude that did not fit with the typical gender roles that a boy would have, I always had more female friends since I was always very (maybe too much) sensitive and I still am. Whenever I want to buy clothes I can't find anything I like and I always complain that I like "girl" clothes much more but there is something that needs to be understood. I was born in a family belonging to a religious sect that derives from extreme Christianity. I have never told my parents about my bisexuality although I think they must already know something. They have never accepted that from me. I also received psychological, physical and sexual abuse throughout my life (I prefer not to talk about it now so as not to get sidetracked but so you can imagine the type of things I faced. My parents sent me at 13 years old, alone, for 70 days to a kind of spiritual retreat on the other side of the country where they forced me to do forced labor and receive different types of humiliations just to force me to "remove the sin" from me) This is just one of the infinite mistreatment that they did to me during my life, it's something I'm working on but unfortunately I don't know how to solve it yet. I mean, you can imagine that with all this, coming out as a trans person would be something bordering on impossible for me. To all this, I also have a girlfriend, I have no idea what she might think of me either (Please understand that I am not saying that this is a bad thing, it is just that living in a third world country everything that has to do with gender and diversity can be a very big source of harassment and bullying, and my parents aren't exactly the definition of understanding) I am very afraid, I am afraid of what people might say about me and I am very afraid of facing this problem alone because the truth is at this moment this is just one of the other problems I have just as important. I really don't know where I should start or what I should think about all this. I hope it's not annoying, I apologize if anything I said is wrong. I hope that from my family context you understand that I am the least educated person in gender issues but I try to do my best to understand what I am feeling. I would appreciate if someone could advise me taking the things I said into account, thank you very much and have a good day.

2024.05.21 10:56 SessDMC House rewire

So I'm a FTB, completed last month and moved in, started doing decorating but that's on pause at the moment because I'm getting some of the bigger jobs out of the way, the first one was the boiler that was 20 odd years old, had that replaced, the next job was the fusebox was very old, might have been the same with the house that was built in the 70's, so I've just had that replaced.
The electrician was lovely and told me loads about the house and they recommended a rewire because the whole house runs on one circuit and it looks like in the bedroom there's been some cowboy/DIY electricals in one of the bedrooms which has made some of the wiring unsafe, the electrician made it safe and installed and RCB, I do plan to go ahead with rewiring before recommencing decorating.
Before I look into taking out a loan to pay for the rewire is there any recourse I am able to bring up with the sellers (executors this was on probate) about this to contribute towards the cost of rewiring or is it buyer beware and I'll have to suck it up?
Edit: I'm in England

Understanding the Different Types of Ovarian Cysts: A Comprehensive Guide
https://preview.redd.it/extt48b2tq1d1.jpg?width=480&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=724732e9e84bd184ad1329712865eb0be3690165

What are ovarian cysts?

Ovarian cysts are fluid-filled sacs formed in the ovary. These are typically formed during ovulation and are usually harmless.
A functional ovarian cyst is a sac that holds a maturing egg. It forms on the surface of a woman's ovary during or after ovulation and goes away after the egg is released. However, if the ovary does not release an egg, or if the sac closes up after the egg is released, the sac can swell up with fluid. Dr sandip sonara is leading an expert in ovarian cyst surgery in Ahmedabad

Types of functional cysts

Follicular cyst

Around the midpoint of a woman’s menstrual cycle, an egg bursts out of its sac or follicle and travels down the fallopian tube. A follicular cyst occurs when the follicle does not release an egg, and the sac swells up with fluid.

Corpus luteum cyst or luteal cyst

This occurs when the sac releases an egg and then reseals and fills with fluid.
Functional cysts are often harmless, without symptoms, and go away without treatment. However, if a cyst becomes large, it can twist, rupture, or bleed, causing pain.

Types of harmful cysts

There are other types of cysts not related to the normal function of a woman’s menstrual cycle. These ovarian cysts become large and rupture, and may be painful or harmful to the body. Some examples are:

Dermoid cyst

Also called teratoma, a dermoid cyst can contain tissues such as hair, skin, or teeth because it forms from embryonic cells. It is rarely cancerous but can become large and cause the ovary to move out of position, which increases the chance of ovarian torsion or the painful twisting of the ovary. Ovarian torsion may also decrease or stop the flow of blood to the ovary.

Cystadenoma

This cyst develops on the surface of an ovary and may be filled with a watery or a mucous material. Like a dermoid cyst, cystadenoma may also grow large and cause the ovary to move out of position, causing ovarian torsion.

Endometrioma

Also known as a 'chocolate cyst', this cyst develops when uterine endometrial cells grow outside a woman’s uterus, and this condition is known as endometriosis. Some of the tissues can attach to the ovary and form a growth.

What are the symptoms of ovarian cysts?

Symptoms of an abnormal cyst include pressure, bloating, swelling, or pain in the lower abdomen on the side of the cyst. This pain may be sharp or dull and intermittent.

Symptoms of a ruptured or large cyst include severe and sudden pain.

  • Less common symptoms include:
  • Pelvic pain
  • Dull ache in the lower back and thighs
  • Problems emptying the bladder or bowel completely
  • Pain during sex
  • Unexplained weight gain
  • Pain during your period
  • Unusual vaginal bleeding
  • Breast tenderness
  • Need to urinate more often
  • What causes ovarian cysts?

There are some causes linked to ovarian cysts. These include:

Hormonal problems or drugs – These help a woman ovulate and may cause functional cysts.
Endometriosis – This can result in the development of a cyst called endometrioma. The endometriosis tissue may attach to the ovary and form a growth. This cyst can be especially painful during sexual intercourse and a woman’s period. Dr.sandip sonara is wellknown in endometriosis specialist, he leading endometriosis doctor in Ahmedabad.
Pregnancy – To help support the pregnancy until the placenta forms, an ovarian cyst develops in early pregnancy and may remain even until late in the child-bearing period. It usually needs to be removed.
Severe pelvic infections – Infections may spread to the fallopian tubes and ovaries, causing cysts to form.

What are the complications and related diseases of ovarian cysts?

Ovarian torsion – Cysts that enlarge can cause the ovary to move, increasing the chance of painful twisting of the ovary.
Rupture – A ruptured ovarian cyst can cause severe pain and internal bleeding. Larger cysts have a greater risk of rupture. Vigorous activity affecting the pelvis may also increase the risk.
Cancer – Cystic ovarian masses that develop after menopause are possibly cancerous. For this, regular pelvic exams are important.
