I think that The Beatles were better whole than than the sum of their parts. In their solo careers, they all have classic songs, really good songs, good songs and...let's admit...clunkers.
Putting together yearly compilations of solo Beatles material has been fun, creative, and challenging.
Here is the frame for my project:

1. I keep my fan albums to 14 tracks, like the old Beatles UK albums.
2. I use the 4/4/4/2 song distribution suggested by John at the meeting to discuss a possible Abbey Road follow up.
3. I can go back a year or 2 for songs, but not forward.

I am in recovery from my ureteroscopy on a calyceal diverticulum, and while I found some journal articles and a few stray posts on here about them, I want to paint a bigger picture about my actual experience and what I felt.
This is a very long post because I wanted to err on the side of more information so that others may feel much less alone than I have felt. I have included subheadings so you can read only what is useful to you.
To start, I am a 31-year-old female with endometriosis (I explain the implications of that in one of my subsections.). I live in New York City and was operated on by a surgeon at Smith Institute for Urology at Lenox Hill Hospital, which specializes in “complex anatomy” and kidney stones.
TL;DR Calyceal diverticula are pockets on the kidneys affecting 0.5% of the population. Stones can form and get trapped due to their narrow opening (infundibulum). As a result, their pain pattern is different and diagnosis can be delayed. To resolve the problem, you will need a surgeon to remove stones and expand the opening and/or ablate the lining of the diverticulum via ureteroscopy or percutaneous nephrolithotomy.
What is a calyceal diverticulum?
For a good scientific review of what calyceal (kay-luh-SEE-uhl) diverticula are, there is a review study from 2014 with primary author Nikhil Waingankar. In short, these are pockets within the kidneys that have much narrower entry points (“infundibula”) than a normal calyx, and they are theorized to only occur in 0.5% of the human population, with an estimated 96% of those who have them forming stones inside them.
They are often found incidentally on imaging because many people remain asymptomatic. In my case, we saw “a cyst requiring further imaging to rule out neoplasm” (cancer) when I was having my appendectomy in 2022 and had a CT scan in the ER.
They will look like cysts until you either get a radiologist who knows what to look for and sees a stone inside, or until you do a CT urogram, which is a more involved CT scan where you can see if the urinary system communicates with the “cyst.” Simple cysts and neoplasms will not show urine entering the mass; a calyceal diverticulum will, because it has an entrance.
Important stipulation in my experience: endometriosis and its surgeries
My story is complicated by the fact that I have endometriosis, which is a disease wherein cells resembling uterine cells occur outside the uterus. This is an extraordinarily painful condition that causes widespread inflammation due to the uterus-like cells’ having “menstrual periods” outside the uterus. It that can occur anywhere in the body; while most people’s disease presents primarily in the ovaries, uterus, and Fallopian tubes, the disease has been found in every organ in the body. In my case, my disease was confirmed to be extrapelvic as soon as my appendix pathology report revealed that my appendix had endometriosis on it; the cells existed beyond the typical pelvic organs.
I have already had two laparoscopies for endometriosis, and while these were immensely helpful in restoring my quality of life, every abdominal surgery comes with the risk of adhesions. Adhesions are bands of tissue that the body forms when it experiences inflammation or trauma. Endometriosis forms adhesions by itself, and surgery to remove it risks further adhesions. In 2020, when I had my radical excision surgery, my surgeon had to perform ureterolysis to cut my ureters free: whether from previous surgery in 2016 or the disease, my ureters were stuck to my uterus due to adhesions.
I share this because having endometriosis and its surgeries in my history affected my path to diagnosis and probably my pain pattern. (Endometriosis forms its own nerve endings, too!) But for the record, the kidney stones and the kidney surgery in my case were more painful than endometriosis…probably because they freaked out any remaining endometriosis.
(Sorry for no source on this endometriosis information. I am unfortunately very well-read on the disease! If you want to learn more, I recommend The Center for Endometriosis Care website and the book Beating Endo.)
What did the calyceal diverticulum feel like at first?
On a Tuesday in January 2024, I was trialing prazosin, an alpha blocker related to Flomax (tamsulosin) due to PTSD nightmares.
One day after taking this drug, I woke up with 8/10 pain muscle spasms in my “iliac crest,” which is the top edge of my pelvis, on the right side. I thought I had “slept funny” and the pain subsided after about 3 hours. I tried to roll around on a lacrosse ball, thinking it was a muscle spasm.
I took the prazosin for two more days. By that Thursday, the pain lasted more like 6 hours and did not go away; I had the muscle spasms as well as a feeling that there was “trapped gas” right at my waist, right on the side of my body. Because the pain stayed at 8/10, nothing would calm it down, and I couldn’t focus on work, I went to the ER. We did a CT scan and saw nothing different from my last CT for my appendectomy. They decided it was probably a kidney infection with strange presentation due to my endometriosis and sent me home with cefpodoxime, an antibiotic.
I finished the course of the antibiotic over 7 days and felt better.
But then the “trapped gas” feeling returned and lasted 18 hours. I went back to the ER, mostly concerned that I had failed antibiotics and the “infection” was getting worse. I made a urologist appointment while I was waiting in the ER because I suspected this might be beyond their mandate of ruling out anything life-threatening. We did another CT, and this time I really carefully read the results: inside what we had identified as a calyceal diverticulum in 2022 during my appendectomy CT scan were two kidney stones, each about 0.2mm. Because there was not much change from my last ER visit, the doctor at the ER did not think this explained how I was feeling. He did not want to send me home with antibiotics because he thought his colleagues were too cavalier with testing, but he did send for a urine culture and sent me home at least assured there was no emergency.
The culture came back, and I did test positive for E. Faecalis, which is a rarer bacteria to have, so the doctor at the ER urged me to get on Levaquin, an antibiotic, as soon as possible. (My endourologist later theorized this bacterium was an incidental finding; he thinks I just happened to be colonized with it and it was not causing symptoms. Regardless, it was not present in my culture before surgery.)
Again, I took almost the full course of the antibiotic and was feeling better and safer. I also saw a urologist, and she was skeptical it was an infection but told me to continue the course. She was pretty sure it was endometriosis-related but saw that I had seen my gynecologist, who has been treating me for 5 years, days prior who was pretty sure this was NOT consistent with what she had seen when we operated in 2020. The urologist said she felt this might be beyond her skills and referred me to one of her medical school colleagues who is a specialist in “complex anatomy” like calyceal diverticula as an endourologist professor at Lenox Hill in NYC.
But before I could see the endourologist, only one week after my last ER visit, I was in 9/10 pain for 7 hours overnight. I really did not want to go to the ER again, but I was vomiting, sweating, using the bathroom (both ways) constantly. After 7 hours not being able to get it to calm down, I went back to the ER.
The first thing they did was test me for sepsis, because I was being treated for an infection. They also did a CT scan again and then we saw it: one of the kidney stones had left the calyceal diverticulum and was stuck in the ureterovesicular junction (“UVJ”). By the time I was diagnosed, I was in 9/10 pain for 18 hours, so what we now know to be the renal colic phase lasted for 18 hours. They admitted me overnight to the hospital to observe and had me on ketorolac (Toradol) and oxycodone/acetaminophen (Percocet) every 6 hours alternating. The pain subsided the next morning.
Confirmation and surgery
Luckily, I had the endourologist appointment on the books already, and I got all of my images from the ER to bring to this doctor, letting him know I was confirmed to have passed the stone.
What he was able to do for me I will never forget: he showed me exactly why I was in enough pain for the ER each of the three weeks I went. Unlike a normal stone situation, a stone in a calyceal diverticulum has far more opportunities to get stuck. Also unlike a normal stone, you can feel the stone passing before it reaches the ureter because it has to leave via the narrow opening of the diverticulum. This means the pain can feel different and, due to its location within the kidney is more prone to being referred pain (pain you feel in a place other than where it originates). This is why I did not feel the pain in the classic place and why it felt much more like trapped gas. Furthermore, most radiologists do not have the same training as he did to identify where in the opening the stone was, which explained why they believed the stone was in the same place each time.
We wanted to take a “wait and see” approach on the second stone, but my body did not want to wait. As I was falling asleep one night in early March 2024, I felt that familiar “trapped gas” feeling, way too far right to be my intestines. This is 6/10 pain, so I could go to work for an important meeting, but I called to get an ultrasound and appointment right away. (We have since found that for my specific diverticulum, ultrasounds are not useful. I will need a CT urogram any time we want to visualize the kidney post-op.)
My doctor said that he wanted to attempt ureteroscopy before percutaneous nephrolithotomy because it is a less-invasive modality and we were worried about impacting any endometriosis. He had me sign paperwork consenting to either method, and it was a “game time” decision based on what he saw with the camera.
In the two-and-half week wait til surgery, his hypothesis gained traction: I would have days “on” with the pain and “off,” suggesting the stone was able to enter the diverticular opening and then flow back into the diverticulum. When I was in pain this time, I would also feel a lot of fatigue and brain fog that made it hard to work. This could be consistent with a kidney blockage, but it is hard to say for sure with an area so small.
The surgery, the stent, and the pain after the stent
The surgery itself went pretty well and only lasted 1.5 hours. The surgeon let me know that it was not easy to get into the diverticulum because the opening was not straight, as expected. He was, however, able to complete the surgery with only ureteroscopy. He removed a 0.2mm stone and observed that the stone was exactly the width of the opening, meaning it could absolutely flow into and out of it and get stuck for days. He widened the opening with laser to be “wider than a normal calyx” to allow for scarring, and, at my request to avoid further operations, ablated as much of the lining of the diverticulum as he could, encouraging it to close up.
While the surgery was uneventful, I am one of the unlucky ones who cannot tolerate a stent. This is probably due to my endometriosis, which leaves me in a heightened baseline of inflammation and nerve arousal, as well as the fact that, for me, the stent had to go into the diverticulum, which had been lasered and burned, in order for it to heal. I spent four hours in the recovery room while we tried to get my pain down to my goal of 7, which meant we needed to dose me, as we did in the ER, with ketorolac (Toradol) and oxycodone every 6 hours with no gaps in between.
I only had the stent in for 3 full days, and unfortunately, due to my specific circumstances, that was the worst pain I have ever been in. I was agnostic about 10/10 pain until this time, in which I felt like I was passing a stone and experiencing my worst endometriosis cramps at the same time. I was in 8-10/10 pain despite the painkiller regimen, and since we found that dilaudid does not work for me, this was good as they could do for me.
Thankfully, my surgeon listened to my experience and agreed to take the stent out as soon as was responsible: 72 hours later. The actual removal was uncomfortable but not painful beyond a “scrape” sensation in the urethra, and as soon as it was out, my husband noticed I could move as normal and was talking more like myself.
However, 1 out of 4 people will experience pain after the stent is removed, and risk factors include female anatomy, being “younger” (I am 31.) and having a stent in for less than or equal to 7 days.
The day of the removal I had some muscle spasms but was mostly so relieved that I slept all day.
34 hours after the removal, I experienced a feeling like I was passing a kidney stone. I was in 9/10 pain for 6 hours, feeling like I needed to move my bowels (which was not easy after opioids!) and having unrelenting spasms above my right iliac crest (top of pelvis). I was on ketorolac (Toradol) during this and knew what it was, but I otherwise may have gone back to the ER. I refused to take more opioids because my bowel was upset as well.
Today, I have had one episode of the iliac crest muscle spasms lasting an hour. I have found that crouching on the floor, against a wall, and/or going into “reclined butterfly pose” may help. It may just make me feel like I have more control over the situation.
I will update this post if I feel more pain in the coming days.
What’s next?
My endourologist/surgeon thinks it is very unlikely that I am “a stone-former” because the stones were only in the diverticulum and likely formed due to the urine reflux of that structure.
We will follow up in 3 weeks to see if the sensation I felt in March of the “trapped gas” recurs. If it does, only then would we do a CT urogram to see if the diverticular opening closes up to anywhere near its former width of 0.2mm.
This is unlikely because the surgeon lasered the opening very wide, “wider than a normal calyx,” to allow for scarring to take place. The ablation of the lining of the diverticulum should also take care of its tendency to collect urine.
I am not expected to have further stones or need for surgery, but he has seen cases of recurrence, so we need to manage my expectations.
Despite the extreme pain of the stent, I am content with my decision and hope that I do not have to go through this again. The one blessing in my case is, if this surgery succeeds, I should not have any further kidney stones.

I just locked up tickets for Billie's NYC visit in October. Going to one of her concerts definitely isn't something I'd be doing on my own, but my girl is a big fan and there's a lot of Billie on our playlists 😉.

Kanan: (smirking) Not bad, kid. But here's the playlist. Dre first, make sure he thinks Vincent's coming for him. He gets scared, runs his mouth, and fucks up Vincent's operation.
Ghost: (nodding) Which gives us the perfect opportunity to strike at Vincent. But we need to make sure Jason’s eyes are elsewhere.
Kanan: (conniving) That's where I come in. I’ll feed Jason some half-baked intel ‘bout a turf war between Dre and Vincent. Keep his focus split.
Tommy: (catching on) While he's dealing with that, we hit Dre's places, cut off his people, then swoop in and finish bitch ass Vincent.
Tariq: (determined) And when Vincent dies, Jason won’t suspect us immediately. We got some time to clean up Dre before Jason realizes he’s next.

Tommy and Ghost exchange looks, reluctant but understanding the necessity.

Hello there, im looking for new friends. I have several hobbies and interests i want to share but im looking for more of an emotional connection, something more along the lines of being able to talk about stuff back and forth, but im definitely not looking to force anything.
As for hobbies and interests, i like to walk, i like taking scenic walks to map out nyc (in my head) obviously i stay away from dangerous places xD, im from queens so i like to cross into long island alot because its more peaceful. I like playing video games, only a specific set of them..like mmos, sometimes moba, fps. I like board games like monopoly, I like anime, sometimes kdrama, tv, and movies but less anime as of recently, i prefer watching shows or movies though. I spend more of my time on youtube!
I also really enjoy learning about new stuff, love learning about new people, i love talking and sharing music and tweaking my spotify playlist, im big on art (graphic design to fine arts is my jam :3) im quite open minded when it comes to food and have no food qualms really unless its stuff like balut(sorry to the pinoy bros and sis). Im open to sports as well. I dont smoke or drink so i prefer non smokers or drinkers, but i can appreciate a good edible, my only preferred way of getting high.

Hey all, at least once a day there seems to be a post in this subreddit complaining about the quality of matches or teammates. In those posts there seems to be a split on whether or not there is a problem or player behavior is justified. I'm going to leave most of my opinions at the end of this post, but from my point of view it's obvious that there is a problem that is clearly illustrated by how often players choose to forfeit, but most players are unwilling or even mentally blocking themselves from the idea that they might be part of the problem. I had already taken up note taking in video games as I played Dark Souls for the first time, so I decided to continue this when I came back to Rocket League and record stats and tallies by hand of instances when my teammates vote to forfeit.

For context, all of these matches were in the 3v3 competitive playlist from the Diamond 1 to Diamond 2 range. I wanted to come up with a system that made it easy to record quickly during games, so I kept tallies of the basic stats in the first table, and in terms of forfeiting I recorded the time of the first vote, the score, and notes (things I wanted to keep track of but ultimately didn't deserve their own tallies). Right off the bat we can see that it only took 311 matches for me to reach 100 instances of forfeiture, this means almost one third of my games are going to include a teammate forfeiting. Out of those 100 times where a teammate voted to forfeit, 34 times also included the teammate idling or hard throwing. That means almost 1 out of every 9 matches I played was ruined solely by someone on my team not playing the game as intended. It's also extremely important to note that I only recorded instances of this happening on my team. I'm making the assumption that all of this happens at a slightly higher rate on the other team because I personally don't vote to forfeit or throw my matches.

As an information dump, here are some of the statistics I found interesting with these instances of forfeiting.

• The median time when forfeits were first voted on was 1:25.5 left on the clock. 34 times there were 2 or more minutes left, and 10 times there were 3 or more minutes left
• 60 votes occurred with a 2 goal or less deficit, an additional 15 votes occurred at a 3 goal deficit
• 18 votes occurred with 15 seconds or less on the clock. 4 times the deficit was 1 goal, 11 times the deficit was 2, and one vote occurred in a tie game
• 19 votes occurred with between 30 seconds and 1 minute on the clock, 16 of those votes were a 2 goal or less deficit
• 27 votes occurred with between 1 and 2 minutes left on the clock, 11 times the deficit was 2 or less, 11 more times the deficit was exactly 3
• 44 votes occurred while my team was getting shut out
• 10 matches with votes were won, but this includes the only "joke" ff, 2 games where we were leading and 7 when we were tied. In other words, every game where I was losing at the moment and a teammate voted to ff was lost
• 10 votes happened as the other team tied the game, we lost 3 (see above)

I'm pretty terrible when it comes to Excel/Google Sheets, but if anyone wants to mess around with this data set to find any other cool stats I'd be very interested.

My Thoughts

My original purpose when I started to keep track of my games was to try and prove that most games when my teammates vote to forfeit are still winnable, but I no longer feel that is the case, although for different reasons than I expected. Now, I feel like a lot of matches are lost the moment my teammate voted to forfeit either because of the idling/hard throwing, or because of what I perceive as passive throwing by my teammates. I never recorded "passive throwing" because there isn't a reliable way to do so, but a lot of the time it feels like certain players are mentally out of the game once they've hit that vote to forfeit button. Those players make a habit out of forfeiting, which causes them to lose the ability to see a path to victory in matches that are winnable (example: 4-1 with 1:30 on the clock), and this creates a self-fulfilling prophecy where a large portion of the player population just doesn't see the value in playing matches where they are more likely to lose than win.

I don't expect most people to have the self-awareness to realize the self fulfilling prophecy they've created, which is why I believe something has to be done to restrict or remove players ability to forfeit in competitive and tournament playlists. Personally, I never plan on forfeiting and I don't want to know when my teammates have voted for it. Why isn't there an option for me to disable the "vote to forfeit" text on my HUD just like people do with quick chat? Additionally, I think one good idea would be to only allow players the ability to initiate a vote a certain number of times per day, and disable the option entirely in tournaments. I didn't record my tournament games on paper, but several times my team would win 3-4 games, go down by 2 goals in the next game, and then one of my teammates votes to ff and checks out of the game. It's ridiculous that this kind of thing happens so regularly in game modes that are advertised as "competitive". I don't want to pretend like I know the perfect solution, I just think in the game's current state it is far too easy for players to give up, and barriers need to be put in place to keep games competitive, therefore something has to change.

I know a lot of people will believe players will act this way even if forfeiting wasn't an option, but I think the option of an easy way out affects mentally weak players' gameplay in matches where they are losing. I played Overwatch for many years, a game where matches are much longer and forfeiting is not an option. That game can be toxic as hell, but I've never seen the amount of throwing or giving up in Overwatch that I do in Rocket League. Even when Blizzard was having problems with people leaving quickplay matches after one lost fight, I rarely saw people stop trying in competitive matches just because they got their ass kicked in round 1. In Overwatch, there was a sense of commitment once you got into a competitive match that straight up doesn't exist in Rocket League. I believe the fact that forfeiting has never been an option in Overwatch and always an option in Rocket League has contributed to how willing players are to give up in these respective games. To me, there really isn't ever a good reason to forfeit in RL, but there are still instances that are more ridiculous than others. 22 times my team voted to forfeit with under 30 seconds on the clock, and 18 of those times the deficit was 2 goals or less. Why wouldn't you play out 30 seconds or less just to see if you can get 2 goals? The worst that can happen is it takes you less than 30 seconds to get into a new game, in the best case you might be able to get a goal at the kickoff and then a 0 second goal to go to OT. Yet so many players in this community would rather deny themselves an opportunity for something amazing just because it isn't likely to happen, even when the time cost is absolutely minimal.

I hope that this post inspires some discussion and helps players realize how detrimental habitual forfeiting is in modes that want to call themselves "competitive". I also want to tell the players who want to play out every game that you don't owe anyone on either team a forfeit if you don't want to. I know a lot of people feel pressured when someone tells them to forfeit or when they see 2 teammates vote for it, but any reason you want to play out a game is valid, even if you're getting destroyed 10-0 and just want to get one goal. 5 minutes + replays is not an unreasonable time commitment and if anyone tries to pressure you into forfeiting, they aren't worth considering. I hope this can change in the future, because I want to be put on teams that want to try and overcome a 3 goal deficit, and I want to play against teams the make me fight to hold a 3 goal lead. Instead we have a community that is hyper focused on trying to determine when a match isn't worth effort anymore, and competitive playlists and tournaments have suffered because of it. This makes me sad because Rocket League is so simple and elegant that I consider it to be one of the best multiplayer games ever made, but this community-created problem is big enough where it makes me want to play other games.

TL;DR Habitual forfeiting is a major problem in Rocket League, and I hope we can actually have an honest conversation about it

David Sanborn passed away yesterday — sometimes I feel like he played alto sax on 50% of everything I loved in the ‘70s and ‘80s. Even if it was just a few bars on then outro, you knew who it was.
I was a band kid in high school — tenor sax — so was very aware of when he turned up pretty much everywhere. I’m not crazy about indulging too much in mourning the passing of things in my youth — that would be a full-time job at this point and not much fun — but every so often I just go Wow because Sanborn was just Always There, usually in the background, keeping it all solid.
His passing reminded me of his crazily improbable network TV show “Night Music” that ran for a couple seasons in the very late 1980s. I remember watching it in the wee hours when I first moved to NYC, in our tiny apartment. If you’ve never seen this show or have forgotten about it, it’s a real treat and it’s here
I specifically remember being introduced to Indigo Girls, of all people, via this show. We live within walking distance of The Beacon Theatre, and got tickets to one of their shows there not too long after their Night Music appearance. Being a little clueless, it took me a minute to figure out why the vast majority of the audience were female. I remember Michael Stipe of REM coming up on stage to sing backing vocals on Kid Fear, as he did on their first album.
It’s funny the rich fabric of memories that show up when I wake up a bit too early.
Anyway, if you’ve never seen Night Music, I encourage you pick an episode at random and put it on with a cup of coffee or a scotch and enjoy.

Lately I’ve had several posts on actingclass of people looking for monologues for an audition. They explain that they have “no previous acting training”. If you are in this position or hope to be, read on! Here are the cold hard facts and what you can do about them.
First of all, it depends on how important this audition is. Is it a professional production…a school or community production? Is it for an agent? How important is it to YOU? Whatever it is, you want to do well. The people who will see your audition will be forming an opinion of you as they watch.
Picking a random monologue, memorizing it and reciting it for someone, isn’t going to do anything good for you. Acting is so much more than that. What you choose and how you do it is crucial. They want to be able to believe you are your character. They want to see interaction and you responding to the person you are speaking to. They want to see you using your words to change the other person.
You only have one chance to make a first impression and that can last a very long time in the minds of the people you want to impress. Even school and community theater can be competitive. And in the professional world of acting in theater, film or tv, it’s like trying out for the Olympics. You are up against the best of the best.
People fantasize about being completely unknown and inexperienced and suddenly being discovered by a big tv or movie producer and cast as the lead. This NEVER happens. There is only one way to get signed for that kind of work. You need to be the best actor they see. In fact, that is true for any audition you do. No one chooses the fifth best actor (unless it’s a close family member). They don’t choose the second best actor. They only want THE BEST.
So how do you impress them if you’ve never acted before? Very simply…you can’t! Chances are, if it’s something worth doing there are going to be lots of actors there with tons of training and experience. So you need that too. Even if you did a small part in a middle school play and have always dreamed of doing more—It’s not enough. Acting is a skill that takes practice and guidance. You can’t “wing it”.
So what about this audition you have? If you think this a a huge opportunity and there is limited time to prepare, you need private coaching with an experienced and insightful teacher. I do this for new (as well as very experienced) actors all the time. I help them to find the right monologue—one to show they are right for and can handle the role in question. Or I coach them on audition material they have been given. All my lessons are recorded so you can rewatch them or even edit them to submit for self-tape auditions. This is the fastest way to prepare for an opportunity you don’t want to waste.
Auditions are nothing to take lightly. Each one is a precious gift that you should never take for granted. Each one is a building block, constructing your reputation as an actor. Your audition (or anything anyone sees you do), must be compelling as well as show a variety of emotions as you connect to another character. It needs to be at a professional level, prepared and skilled with purpose and relationship in every word. No one wants less than that for their project. No one takes on a beginner in a major production. Movies, tv shows and even theater productions cost too much to risk their success on beginners. Actors need to be assets, not a gamble. If you want to be hired, you need the skills.
Now…if you have time and that big “opportunity of a lifetime” is still in your imagination, you are in luck! Still there is no time to lose. There are some simple (but not so easy) steps you must follow. When you do all that I describe below, you WILL BE A SKILLED ACTOR. You just need to get started.

Step 1 will help you so much, but to really become an actor, you need regular hands on training with a professional who knows what is required to have a real career and can guide and direct you. If you are new to my technique or you are just getting started in your acting career, this is the class where I can personally help you start applying my techniques to your own work. Being in class every week, working on a monologue, learning to use every word to its fullest will become part of who you are as an actor. All the basics will be covered and I will work intensely with you to make sure you can apply them. The sessions are five weeks long with a Showcase Broadcast on week five. STEP NO. 3 - SCENE STUDY CLASS

Think of THE SCENE STUDY CLASSES as an escalator step that you can ride all the way to the top. Besides learning to apply your new knowledge to working with other actors, developing characters, and creating compelling performances, it’s like an “acting gym” where you can exercise your acting brain and keep all your skills tuned up and ready to go. It’s where students who have learned the concepts explained in the written and video lessons get to put them to use by doing scenes from tv, film and theater with my intensive feedback and guidance in real time. Working with a scene partner each week is priceless experience that will serve you the rest of your career as you learn what will make your performances unique, specific and professional level “WOW”. These are the skills you need to acquire for a professional career, giving performances that agents and CDs can’t say no to. Sessions are 5 weeks long and are ongoing. Videos of every class are provided and there is a Performance Showcase broadcast on week 5.

STEP NO. 4 - ADVANCED AUDITION TECHNIQUE

ADVANCED AUDITION TECHNIQUE is another one of those “escalator steps” that will help you throughout your career. Get thrown a weekly challenge to create a self-tape from new audition sides. Work on film and TV scripts, commercial copy and the all important “Slate”…in real time, with the high pressure demands of a real, professional audition. Students receive their audition sides a day or two before class. They must create a professional quality self tape with their slate. The tape is played in class for my critique and coaching, then they give their callback performance, attempting to implement my direction. All in one class day!

Rinse and repeat this pattern of behavior monthly. 💰 🤑 💸
No one at Meta, TikTok, or YouTube is forcing her to work when "ill." It is her choice to violate their policies, post irrelevant content, and manipulate aka catfish her followers.

Background

After a 30-year hiatus, I began running again in January 2022. In November 2023, I ran the NYC Marathon, my first, with a time of 4:14:xx. Eugene was my second marathon, and I sought to attain at least a nominal BQ with a time of 4:05. Beyond that, I hoped to break 4 hours. With 3:55 I would have a comfortable cushion of 10 minutes for going to Boston. Based on recent races, I should have been able to do even better - in 10Ks in January (Classics By The Sea in Florida, 48:xx) and February (Manhattan 10K, 49:xx), as well as in the NYC Half in March (1:49), I had AG scores of over 70. On that basis (as well as the prediction from the Runanalyze site), a time of 3:48 was possible.

Training

I used the Runna app to set up a 16-week structured training program which maxed out at about 49 miles/week with several long runs of 21 miles. It went well, though I had to adjust it to accommodate other races and work obligations and I found that the target paces for the speed work were really challenging. The program included a three-week taper which felt a little long to me. Although I intended to include strength work in my training, this did not happen.

Pre-race

We flew across the country Friday evening for the Sunday race and spent Saturday reconnecting with a series of old friends. This was really nice, and necessarily took my focus off of the marathon. The travel and socializing left me a little sleep-deprived Sunday morning, but no regrets. I woke about three hours before the race, had some beet juice, coffee, a half bagel, and a banana. The weather was perfect, mid to high 40s and a little overcast.
I checked my bag, hit the porta-potty, and got to the start with about 30 mins to spare. I found the 3:50 pacer, Keith, a sharp runner who had been pacing marathons on the West Coast every week for the last month or so. When I told Keith that I was 67 and that this was only my second marathon, he advised me to run with the 3:55 or 4:00 pacers but I (of course) did not listen. I had my first Maurten gel and a few swigs of Maurten 160 and we were off.

Race

The first few miles were fairly crowded but manageable. I started a little fast, but not over the top, and enjoyed the chatter with those around me. I ran at a pretty consistent pace for most of the race - through 30K, all of my 5K splits were between 26:45 and 27:30, close enough to Keith so that I could appreciate his smart tangents on the somewhat windy course. I was having a great time, high fiving other runners and the crowd, and singing snippets of songs when the mood struck. My biggest problem through mile 20 was my music - I had curated three separate playlists for the race (Act I - Take it easy, Act II - Maintain and mix it up, Act III - You got this. Finish strong), but only the second loaded properly on my Garmin. I sipped Maurten gel from a gel flask every few miles and sucked down a caffeinated gel at about mile 19. I slowed down gradually beginning at about mile 20, and by mile 23 or so I was periodically admonishing myself aloud "come ON x." But I was not so much deep in the pain cave as looking inside it.
In the last few miles of my first marathon, I was fighting for each tenth of a mile; here, the unit, the goal, was a half mile. At mile 23, there were 6 of these left, plus the final stretch at Hayward Field. I kept on thinking about, visualizing, the finish, but I could no longer even imagine a sprint.
Finally the field came into view, I turned and hit the track, and gave it my all. The video shows that my cadence is quick, but my strides are short, Fred Flintstone like, as this was all that I could manage with the soreness in my glutes and hips. I hit the finish and pumped my arms, then listed a bit to port in a way not unreminiscent of Olympic pioneer Gabriela Andersen-Schiess. Three medics came up to me, but I shook them off with fist bumps and staggered off towards the bag check.

Lessons

As an older white male, I've been given breaks throughout my life because of how I look, how I seem, and how I talk. This privilege has helped me to transcend a rough family background and my first-generation status to go on to earn a PhD and have a successful career and a great family. I have been, in short, very fortunate. Running has reminded me of my good fortune (sometimes with every stride), but these two marathons have given me something more, an appreciation of my own sense of willfulness and determination. Before this race, in the fatigue of the last weeks of my training, I was thinking that this might be, though not my last marathon, my fastest. But I am not done aspiring. Health permitting, I'll be in NYC this Fall, and almost certainly Boston next Spring. And I'll be breathing hard, and occasionally singing.

Almost all of you are my fellow Leaf owners, hoping for just one new chargepoint on your favorite route, before the great dwarven CHAdeMO forges beneath the earth go cold for all time. Here's an update.
Here are all of the new US and Canadian CHAdeMO (Leaf fast-charging) stations that rolled out in April, according to the Alternative Fuels Data Center. You can fetch the data yourself here. Feel free to report inaccuracies to the AFDC.
For comparison's sake: in the US, there were 200 "new" (or updated) CHAdeMO stations added in March, with at least 200 chargepoints. To put it in perspective, there were 102 new or updated US stations in April of 2023. This month's report is surprisingly strong, given how late we are in CHAdeMO's lifecycle. It is unclear if this is due to a large number of refreshed stations, or a large rollout of new stations that happen to include at least one CHAdeMO chargepoint, but it may be the latter thanks to Inflation Reduction Act funding. In any case, it is good news for those of us with legacy vehicles.
Keep in mind that even EVGo has started to roll out stations where only some of the bays support CHAdeMO. This makes sense given that only Nissan still sells a CHAdeMO pure-battery-electric car in the US, and the newer Nissan Ariya model is CCS. The Mitsubishi Plug-In Hybrid Outlander PHEV also supports CHAdeMO.
Some of these chargepoints will be "refreshes," e.g. the provider replaced them with faster chargers etc. Some may be incorrect. This report is only as good as the Alternative Fuels Data Center data.

To streamline this post, multi-chargepoint locations are listed with the number of chargepoints first. Some stations may actually have more CHAdeMO chargepoints than reported here, but most won't, because even EVGo has started to reduce the number of CHAdeMO chargepoints per station. So in the case of CHAdeMO I make a pessimistic assumption to avoid creating unrealistic expectations.
Even so, for actual trip planning I recommend using PlugShare. This report is mainly useful to understand trends.
