SYNOPSIS:
He’s a stuntman, and like everyone in the stunt community, he gets blown up, shot, crashed, thrown through windows and dropped from the highest of heights, all for our entertainment. And now, fresh off an almost career-ending accident, this working-class hero has to track down a missing movie star, solve a conspiracy and try to win back the love of his life while still doing his day job. What could possibly go right?
From real life stunt man and director David Leitch, the blockbuster director of Bullet Train, Deadpool 2, Atomic Blonde and Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw and the producer of John Wick, Nobody and Violent Night, comes his most personal film yet. A new hilarious, hard-driving, all-star apex-action thriller and love letter to action movies and the hard-working and under-appreciated crew of people who make them: The Fall Guy.
Oscar® nominee Ryan Gosling (Barbie, La La Land, Drive) stars as Colt Seavers, a battle-scarred stuntman who, having left the business a year earlier to focus on both his physical and mental health, is drafted back into service when the star of a mega-budget studio movie—being directed by his ex, Jody Moreno, played by Golden Globe winner Emily Blunt (Oppenheimer, A Quiet Place films, Sicario)—goes missing.
While the film’s ruthless producer (Emmy winner Hannah Waddingham; Ted Lasso), maneuvers to keep the disappearance of star Tom Ryder (Golden Globe winner Aaron Taylor-Johnson; Bullet Train) a secret from the studio and the media, Colt performs the film’s most outrageous stunts while trying (with limited success) to charm his way back into Jody’s good graces. But as the mystery around the missing star deepens, Colt will find himself ensnared in a sinister, criminal plot that will push him to the edge of a fall more dangerous than any stunt.
Inspired by the hit 1980s TV series, The Fall Guy also stars Winston Duke (Black Panther franchise) and Academy Award® nominee Stephanie Hsu (Everything Everywhere All at Once).

2024.05.03 18:43 bilbobiggers The best & worst head coach classes of the 32-team era

Much like a QB class means the group of QBs who enter the league in the same year, a head coach class means the group coaches who get their jobs in the same hiring cycle. For instance, the latest cycle gave us the HC class of 2024: Brian Callahan, Dave Canales, Jim Harbaugh, Mike Macdonald, Jerod Mayo, Raheem Morris, Antonio Pierce and Dan Quinn
I set out to establish the BEST and the WORST HC classes of recent years. I looked through every hiring cycle of the 32-team era (since 2002) and put together my top 3 candidates in either direction.

3 WORST: CLASS OF 2016

Mike Mularkey (Titans), Doug Pederson (Eagles), Adam Gase (Dolphins), Ben McAdoo (Giants), Dirk Koetter (Bucs), Chip Kelly (49ers), Hue Jackson (Browns)
This one at least has a Super Bowl winner in Pederson, and that’s why it doesn’t rank higher. The rest of the guys here combine for 1 playoff win and none of them lasted more than 3 seasons.

2 WORST: CLASS OF 2012

Chuck Pagano (Colts), Joe Philbin (Dolphins), Jeff Fisher (Rams), Greg Schiano (Bucs), Dennis Allen (Raiders), Mike Mularkey (Jaguars), Romeo Crennel (Chiefs)
Pagano is the only coach in this class who sustained a winning record with the team that hired him. Schiano, Mularkey and Crennel were trainwrecks, Philbin and Allen are not remembered fondly and Jeff Fisher’s Rams tenure remains a notorious punchline.

1 WORST: CLASS OF 2005

Nick Saban (Dolphins), Romeo Crennel (Browns), Mike Nolan (49ers)
This is the only head coach class of the 21st century without a single winning record. Saban (0.469) bailed on the Dolphins after pinky-promising he wouldn’t; Nolan (0.327) famously selected Alex Smith over Aaron Rodgers, then proceeded to ruin his first years; and by god is that Romeo Crennel again (0.375)?

3 BEST: CLASS OF 2006

Sean Payton (Saints), Mike McCarthy (Packers), Brad Childress (Vikings), Gary Kubiak (Texans), Eric Mangini (Jets), Dick Jauron (Bills), Herm Edwards (Chiefs), Scott Linehan (Rams), Rod Marinelli (Lions), Art Shell (Raiders)
Two Super Bowl winners and longtime skippers of their franchises in Payton and McCarthy, plus Kubiak, who led the Texans to their first competitive era, and Childress, with an NFC title game appearance to his (and Brett Favre’s) name. The presence of Rod ‘0-16’ Marinelli keeps this class from ranking any higher, though.

2 BEST: CLASS OF 2017

Sean McVay (Rams), Kyle Shanahan (49ers), Sean McDermott (Bills), Doug Marrone (Jaguars), Anthony Lynn (Chargers), Vance Joseph (Broncos)
McVay and Shanahan are probably the most influential names of the modern NFL and have already combined for 4 conference titles as head coaches. McDermott broke the longest playoff drought in the major leagues and turned the Bills into perennial contenders. All three are also pretty young. This class has a very bright future, but it still hasn’t reached...

1 BEST: CLASS OF 2002

Tony Dungy (Colts), Marty Schottenheimer (Chargers), Jon Gruden (Bucs), John Fox (Panthers), Bill Callahan (Raiders), Steve Spurrier (Washington), Dom Capers (Texans)
This is a pretty loaded group. 4 out of 7 are Super Bowl coaches, by far the most of any class. Two of them won rings, which ties 2006 for most SB winners. It’s also the only class of the 32-team era (so far) to already deliver a Hall of Fame coach, with Tony Dungy. Aside from the main courses there’s also good old Marty, who (like always) deserved better. Not even Steve Spurrier’s sad days in Washington can keep this class from the top spot, in my book.
edit: got Nolan's and Crennel's winning % mixed up

Sample Reviews:
“The Fall Guy” is funny, it’s sexy, and it features the boy-toy version of “Barbie” scene-stealer Ryan Gosling — which is to say, this time around, he embodies the ultimate action figure. - Peter Debruge, Variety
The rare big studio film that feels human. - Lovia Gyarkye, Hollywood Reporter
The Fall Guy stands as a hilarious and thoughtful tribute to the stunt community, blending action with a poignant exploration of the sacrifices made by these unsung heroes. - Valerie Complex, Deadline Hollywood Daily
Very loosely based on the 1980s series, the film plays out over the course of nearly two hours without any fun, getting buried under empty gag after empty gag as it feels more like we ourselves are experiencing repeated head trauma. - Chase Hutchinson, TheWrap
With the self-referential humor, the industry jokes and the promise of a little romance, it feels like one of those movies we all complain they don’t make anymore. 3/4 - Lindsey Bahr, Associated Press
Leitch’s movie pays tribute in multiple ways to the show and its scrappy spirit – but Gosling makes for a fabulous heir apparent. 3/4 - Brian Truitt, USA Today
"The Fall Guy's" final act is so convoluted that not even Gosling can keep it on the rails. When "The Fall Guy" falls, it falls hard. C+ - Adam Graham, Detroit News
It’s light, it’s airy, it’s preposterous and it is a lot of fun. 4/5 - Bill Goodykoontz, Arizona Republic
Unwieldy, with what seems to be an ending that's followed by 30 more minutes of mayhem, but it also makes it feel like it contains just about everything you'd want in a summer movie. 3/4 - Chris Hewitt, Minneapolis Star Tribune
Fortunately, Leitch knows who he has, which is Gosling and Blunt as his romantic leads. 3/4 - Peter Howell, Toronto Star
This is a movie that shoots first and asks questions never, its smarmy script so full of holes and its aesthetic instincts so cocky that you cannot help but feel pummelled instead of charmed. - Barry Hertz, Globe and Mail
Two hours of zingers with impeccable timing, two bona fide movie stars with palpable chemistry, several enjoyably meta send-ups of the business and, of course, plenty of crazy stunts. 4/5 - Adrian Horton, Guardian
Individually, these plot strands might have felt spongily lightweight – but writer Drew Pearce braids them together into a bright and nostalgic sugar high, like the marshmallow cords of a flump. 4/5 - Robbie Collin, Daily Telegraph (UK)
If the film results in stunt performers gaining a little more respect from the public, that's the ideal. If it merely reminds them how likeable Gosling is, that's good, too. 4/5 - Clarisse Loughrey, Independent (UK)
Everything is lazy incoherence, cliché or leaden repetition. There’s a joke about a stunt dog that responds to only French commands. It’s funny at first, but then, like every paltry whiff of originality in the movie, it’s beaten to death. 2/5 - Kevin Maher, Times (UK)
The frictionless charisma of Blunt and Gosling is what makes it tick: two stellar presences nervelessly bouncing and crashing off each other. 3/5 - Danny Leigh, Financial Times
There’s a lot going on but it’s always done with a wicked sense of humour and commitment to entertain. It’s not the most cerebral cinema but it doesn’t have to be and The Fall Guy never pretends it’s anything but a cracking fun movie. 3.5/5 - Wenlei Ma, The Nightly (AU)
Gosling’s performance is a reminder of how many just-okay action movies of yesteryear easily coasted on charisma. The Fall Guy is more than okay, but it would be a lot less without Gosling’s laidback warmth. - Richard Lawson, Vanity Fair
The Fall Guy feels indistinguishable from the dozens of other action films. And then Gosling and Blunt start flirting and fighting and verbally feinting with each other, and you feel like you’re floating an inch above your seat. - David Fear, Rolling Stone
Maybe the most surprising thing about The Fall Guy is how genuinely romantic it is. - Bilge Ebiri, New York Magazine/Vulture
With some incredible stunts and Gosling and Blunt on top form, this gloriously entertaining comedy is a love-letter to the unsung heroes of cinema. 4/5 - Kelechi Ehenulo, Empire Magazine
A popcorn flick that quickly fades from the memory once the credits roll, sadly lacking the staying power of any of the action greats it references. 2/5 - Hannah Strong, Little White Lies
A thrilling spectacle of immense proportions, The Fall Guy isn’t Leitch’s best film. That title belongs to Atomic Blonde. But it’s probably his warmest, most earnest and endearing... - Robert Daniels, Screen International
I truly had a massive grin on my face from start to finish watching The Fall Guy. It’s an extremely well-crafted action movie that’s absolutely buzzing with energy and charm for all 125 minutes of its running time. 9/10 - Perri Nemiroff, Collider
This is popcorn filmmaking at its most cheerful and enthusiastic, driven by cheeky needle drops, rousing action, and movie stars. B - Katie Rife, indieWire
...a blast of fun at the movies worthy of the biggest tub of popcorn you can find. It’s two hours of movie stars being absolute charm machines, and sometimes that’s all you really need. B+ - Matthew Jackson, AV Club
A fun-filled, fun-loving love letter to the undervalued stunt performance profession. It’s full-gear popcorn entertainment that only someone wholly passionate about stunt work could deliver. - Matt Donato, Inverse
Whenever its main characters are pulled apart, the movie magic, in every sense of the phrase, dissipates, leaving us with a bland, derivative action-comedy that’s never quite as funny or thrilling as it thinks it is. 2/4 - Derek Smith, Slant Magazine
A blockbuster-to-be just like the ’90s used to make; a perfect summer movie, and a celebration of the hard work it takes to make a perfect summer movie happen. A- - Liz Shannon Miller, Consequence
Overstays its welcome for a bit, but the stunts, the comedy, and the spark between the film’s dynamic leads make the movie a delectable kick-off to the popcorn pleasures of the summer-movie season. - Alonso Duralde, The Film Verdict
A romantic comedy with two love stories, one happening onscreen between the characters and one happening off-screen between the director and practical stunt work. 8/10 - Matt Singer, ScreenCrush
This is a ridiculously fun movie, anchored by a movie star in a part that fits him perfectly and a director who really has been working toward this film for his entire career. 3.5/4 - Brian Tallerico, RogerEbert.com

2024.04.29 16:05 -ThePick [OC] The Denver Broncos have solidified their place in NFL Draft history

Last year I posted an article documenting an impressive six draft run the Denver Broncos were on at the time. For six consecutive drafts, the Broncos opted to not select a single offensive tackle in 50 total draft picks. That stretch tied them for the most consecutive drafts without selecting a player for the offensive tackle position. The historical significance for them tying the record last year relied on their lack of consistency at the bookend positions. They were the only franchise to go six drafts, while also having a different pair of starting tackles for each of the six years, and having none of those tackles ever be recognized with a pro-bowl or first team all pro nod. Fortunately for Broncos Country, the Broncos are slated to have both tackles from last season returning for the 2024 season. This is a historic milestone, as it marks the first time in a decade that the franchise will see the previous season’s right tackle return, and the first time the team has fielded a returning tackle combination since the 2014 season with Ryan Clady and Orlando Franklin.
This post does not exist simply to recognize the rare level of consistency displayed by the Broncos for the upcoming season. There is cause for celebration. With the close of the 2024 NFL draft this previous Saturday, the Broncos are the lone record holders for the most consecutive drafts without selecting an offensive tackle. The franchise has now gone SEVEN drafts without selecting a player for either tackle position. This feat is truly impressive, as the NFL draft history dates back to 1936. The total number of picks by the franchise now reaches a staggering 57 total selections during the past seven drafts. That total also sets a record, exceeding the 53 total picks made during a five year span without selecting an offensive tackle by the Kansas City Chiefs from 1985 to 1989. During that five year span the Chiefs boasted a consistent pair of offensive tackles with 2x Pro-Bowler John Alt at left tackle for three years, and Irv Eatman at right tackle for three years, and fourth year at left tackle. Please feel free to reference last year’s post regarding the context of the Broncos short-comings at the tackle positions over the previous six drafts.
To further contextualize the rarity of the Broncos avoidance of offensive tackles, here is information regarding other franchise performances while passing on offensive tackles in the draft.
Years Wins Losses Win %
Denver Broncos 2018-2023 38 61 0.384
San Francisco 49ers 1992-1997 73 23 0.760
Denver Broncos 1997-2002 60 36 0.625
Philadelphia Eagles 1999-2004 64 32 0.667
Kansas City Chiefs 2014-2019 66 30 0.688
Overall records alone are harrowing enough. However, post-season success shows an even greater disparity.
Years Playoff Appearances Conference Championship Appearances Super Bowl Appearances Super Bowl Wins
Denver Broncos 2018-2023 0 0 0 0
San Francisco 49ers 1992-1997 6 4 1 1
Denver Broncos 1997-2002 3 2 2 2
Philadelphia Eagles 1999-2004 5 4 1 0
Kansas City Chiefs 2014-2019 5 2 1 1
The Broncos are in rare company amongst the list of teams who have gone an extended period without drafting an offensive tackle. Only the Philadelphia Eagles provide solace in having zero championships during their stretch. The Eagles differ by posting five playoff berths to the Broncos none.
In an era where passing the football is only becoming more and more necessary, and franchises are recognizing the value of protecting quarterbacks, the Broncos go against the grain by forgoing sound investment in either high potential prospects, or developmental depth in the event of injury. The approach has provided them with consistent losing seasons as well as an inability to provide a hospitable situation for their quarterbacks. While not all of their failures can be tied to this one trend, it may very well be that this trend is a byproduct of failings in other areas. There may be value in noting the deficiencies the franchise has faced at the quarterback position during this stretch, and the possible connection it has with poor offensive line management.
Other Factoids:
For those that are curious, there is currently one other streak of 2+ drafts without selecting an offensive tackle. The Atlanta Falcons have not selected an offensive tackle since the 2019 draft when they chose Kaleb McGary out of Washington with the 31st overall pick. That lone pick is the difference between the current five draft stretch the Falcons are on, and a potential nine draft run going back to their next most recent selection of Jake Rodgers at pick 225 in 2015.
Just under half of the league has never gone four consecutive years without selecting an offensive tackle, those franchises are: Buffalo Bills, Carolina Panthers, Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, Las Vegas Raiders, Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, New Orleans Saints, New York Giants, Pittsburgh Steelers, Tennessee Titans
The following table shows how many times the remaining 17 franchises have forgone the position for extended periods:
Consecutive Years: 4 Drafts 5 Drafts 6 Drafts 7 Drafts Draft Years
Arizona Cardinals 0 1 0 0 2002-2006
Atlanta Falcons 0 1* 0 0 2020-2024

* Denotes Active Streak
+ The San Francisco 49ers selected only one offensive tackle from the 1992 to 2002 drafts. Chris Ruhman, out of Texas A&M, was selected by the 49ers 89th overall in the 1998 draft. Ruhman would play in six games in 1998 for the 49ers before playing for the Cleveland Browns in 1999. He would not play in another game after 1999. Ruhman represents the lone pick, breaking up the 49ers two extended periods of avoiding offensive tackles. Without his selection, the franchise would have an 11 draft stretch without drafting a tackle.
The following table shows the total number of tackles selected by each franchise since 1936:
Team Total Tackles Selected Total Drafts Average
Arizona Cardinals 182 89 2.04

* The Los Angeles Rams hold the record for most offensive tackles selected in a single draft at 13 in 1954. There were 30 rounds and the Rams made 35 total selections in that draft. There is little information on many of those players however, and many of them likely never played a single down in the NFL.

Palm Sunday: The Entrance of Christ into Jerusalem
On the Sunday before the Feast of Great and Holy Pascha and at the beginning of Holy Week, the Orthodox Church celebrates one of its most joyous feasts of the year. Palm Sunday is the commemoration of the Entrance of our Lord into Jerusalem following His glorious miracle of raising Lazarus from the dead. Having anticipated His arrival and having heard of the miracle, the people went out to meet the Lord and welcomed Him with displays of honor and shouts of praise. On this day, we receive and worship Christ in this same manner, acknowledging Him as our King and Lord.
The biblical story of Palm Sunday is recorded in all four of the Gospels (Matthew 21:1-11; Mark 11:1-10; Luke 19:28-38; and John 12:12-18). Five days before the Passover, Jesus came from Bethany to Jerusalem. Having sent two of His disciples to bring Him a colt of a donkey, Jesus sat upon it and entered the city.
People had gathered in Jerusalem for the Passover and were looking for Jesus, both because of His great works and teaching and because they had heard of the miracle of the resurrection of Lazarus. When they heard that Christ was entering the city, they went out to meet Him with palm branches, laying their garments on the ground before Him, and shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is he that comes in the Name of the Lord, the King of Israel!”
At the outset of His public ministry Jesus proclaimed the kingdom of God and announced that the powers of the age to come were already active in the present age (Luke 7:18-22). His words and mighty works were performed "to produce repentance as the response to His call, a call to an inward change of mind and heart which would result in concrete changes in one's life, a call to follow Him and accept His messianic destiny. The triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem is a messianic event, through which His divine authority was declared.
Palm Sunday summons us to behold our king: the Word of God made flesh. We are called to behold Him not simply as the One who came to us once riding on a colt, but as the One who is always present in His Church, coming ceaselessly to us in power and glory at every Eucharist, in every prayer and sacrament, and in every act of love, kindness and mercy. He comes to free us from all our fears and insecurities, "to take solemn possession of our soul, and to be enthroned in our heart," as someone has said. He comes not only to deliver us from our deaths by His death and Resurrection, but also to make us capable of attaining the most perfect fellowship or union with Him. He is the King, who liberates us from the darkness of sin and the bondage of death. Palm Sunday summons us to behold our King: the vanquisher of death and the giver of life.
Palm Sunday summons us to accept both the rule and the kingdom of God as the goal and content of our Christian life. We draw our identity from Christ and His kingdom. The kingdom is Christ - His indescribable power, boundless mercy and incomprehensible abundance given freely to man. The kingdom does not lie at some point or place in the distant future. In the words of the Scripture, the kingdom of God is not only at hand (Matthew 3:2; 4:17), it is within us (Luke 17:21). The kingdom is a present reality as well as a future realization (Matthew 6:10). Theophan the Recluse wrote the following words about the inward rule of Christ the King:
“The Kingdom of God is within us when God reigns in us, when the soul in its depths confesses God as its Master, and is obedient to Him in all its powers. Then God acts within it as master ‘both to will and to do of his good pleasure’ (Philippians 2:13). This reign begins as soon as we resolve to serve God in our Lord Jesus Christ, by the grace of the Holy Spirit. Then the Christian hands over to God his consciousness and freedom, which comprises the essential substance of our human life, and God accepts the sacrifice; and in this way the alliance of man with God and God with man is achieved, and the covenant with God, which was severed by the Fall and continues to be severed by our willful sins, is re-established.”
The kingdom of God is the life of the Holy Trinity in the world. It is the kingdom of holiness, goodness, truth, beauty, love, peace and joy. These qualities are not works of the human spirit. They proceed from the life of God and reveal God. Christ Himself is the kingdom. He is the God-Man, Who brought God down to earth (John 1:1,14). “He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, yet the world knew Him not. He came to His own home, and His own people received Him not” (John 1:10-11). He was reviled and hated.
Palm Sunday summons us to behold our king - the Suffering Servant. We cannot understand Jesus' kingship apart from the Passion. Filled with infinite love for the Father and the Holy Spirit, and for creation, in His inexpressible humility Jesus accepted the infinite abasement of the Cross. He bore our griefs and carried our sorrows; He was wounded for our transgressions and made Himself an offering for sin (Isaiah 53). His glorification, which was accomplished by the resurrection and the ascension, was achieved through the Cross.
In the fleeting moments of exuberance that marked Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem, the world received its King, the king who was on His way to death. His Passion, however, was no morbid desire for martyrdom. Jesus' purpose was to accomplish the mission for which the Father sent Him.
“The Son and Word of the Father, like Him without beginning and eternal, has come today to the city of Jerusalem, seated on a dumb beast, on a foal. From fear the cherubim dare not gaze upon Him; yet the children honor Him with palms and branches, and mystically they sing a hymn of praise: ‘Hosanna in the highest, Hosanna to the Son of David, who has come to save from error all mankind.’” (A hymn of the Light.)
“With our souls cleansed and in spirit carrying branches, with faith let us sing Christ's praises like the children, crying with a loud voice to the Master: Blessed art Thou, O Savior, who hast come into the world to save Adam from the ancient curse; and in Thy love for mankind Thou hast been pleased to become spiritually the new Adam. O Word, who hast ordered all things for our good, glory to Thee.” (A Sessional hymn of the Orthros)
In the Icon of the Feast of Palm Sunday, Christ is the central figure, depicted seated upon the colt of a donkey as He enters Jerusalem, a fulfillment of the prophecy found in Zechariah 9:9. Christ is blessing with His right hand, and in His left hand is a scroll, symbolizing that He is the fulfillment of the Old Testament prophecies concerning the Messiah, the Anointed One who has come to redeem us from our sins and break the power of death. The colt, one of the animals that were considered unclean according to the Law, is symbolic of the inclusion of all peoples of all nations in the new covenant that will come through the death and Resurrection of Christ (Isaiah 62:10-11). It is also a sign that our Lord has revealed a heavenly and spiritual kingdom that offers true and enduring peace.
On the right, the disciples accompany Jesus in His Triumphal Entry. Depicted on the left are the Jews who greet Him crying “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!” The word “Hosanna” means “Save, I pray” or “Save now.”
The children are the small people who are greeting Christ with palm branches and laying these and their garments on the ground before Christ as tokens of honor for one who is acknowledged as a King. The city of Jerusalem is shown as the walled buildings, and the temple is depicted as the building with the dome.
Palm Sunday is celebrated with the Divine Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostom, which is preceded by the Matins service. A Great Vespers is conducted on Saturday evening according to the order prescribed in the Triodion. Scripture readings for Palm Sunday are: At the Vespers: Genesis 49:1,8-12; Zephaniah 3:14-19; Zechariah 9:9-15. At the Orthros (Matins): Matthew 21:1-17. At the Divine Liturgy: Philippians 4:4-9; John 12:1-18.
On this Sunday, in addition to the Divine Liturgy, the Church observes the Blessing and Distribution of the Palms. A basket containing the woven palm crosses is placed on a table in front of the icon of the Lord, which is on the Iconostasion. The prayer for the blessing of the Palms is found in the Ieratikon or the Euxologion. According to the rubrics of the Typikon, this prayer is read at the Orthros just before the Psalms of Praise (Ainoi). The palms are then distributed to the faithful. In many places today, the prayer is said at the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, before the apolysis. The text of the prayer, however, indicates clearly that it is less a prayer for the blessing of the palms, even though that is its title, and more a blessing upon those, who in imitation of the New Testament event hold palms in their hands as symbols of Christ's victory and as signs of a virtuous Christian life. It appears then, that it would be more correct to have the faithful hold the palms in their hands during the course of the Divine Liturgy when the Church celebrates both the presence and the coming of the Lord in the mystery of the Eucharist.

2024.04.28 14:27 Xatz41 Palm Sunday

Palm Sunday is the celebration of the triumphant entrance of Christ into the royal city of Jerusalem. He rode on a colt for which He Himself had sent, and He permitted the people to hail Him publicly as a king. A large crowd met Him in a manner befitting royalty, waving palm branches and placing their garments in His path. They greeted Him with these words: “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel! (John 12:13).
This day together with the raising of Lazarus are signs pointing beyond themselves to the mighty deeds and events which consummate Christ’s earthly ministry. The time of fulfillment was at hand. Christ’s raising of Lazarus points to the destruction of death and the joy of resurrection which will be accessible to all through His own death and resurrection. His entrance into Jerusalem is a fulfillment of the messianic prophecies about the king who will enter his holy city to establish a final kingdom. “Behold, your king is coming to you, humble, and mounted on an ass, and on a colt, the foal of an ass” (Zech 9:9).
Finally, the events of these triumphant two days are but the passage to Holy Week: the “hour” of suffering and death for which Christ came. Thus the triumph in a earthly sense is extremely short-lived. Jesus enters openly into the midst of His enemies, publicly saying and doing those things which mostly enrage them. The people themselves will soon reject Him. They misread His brief earthly triumph as a sign of something else: His emergence as a political messiah who will lead them to the glories of an earthly kingdom.
Our Pledge
The liturgy of the Church is more than meditation or praise concerning past events. It communicates to us the eternal presence and power of the events being celebrated and makes us participants in those events. Thus the services of Lazarus Saturday and Palm Sunday bring us to our own moment of life and death and entrance into the Kingdom of God: a Kingdom not of this world, a Kingdom accessible in the Church through repentance and baptism.
On Palm Sunday palm and willow branches are blessed in the Church. We take them in order to raise them up and greet the King and Ruler of our life: Jesus Christ. We take them in order to reaffirm our baptismal pledges. As the One who raised Lazarus and entered Jerusalem to go to His voluntary Passion stands in our midst, we are faced with the same question addressed to us at baptism: “Do you accept Christ?” We give our answer by daring to take the branch and raise it up: “I accept Him as King and God!”
Thus, on the eve of Christ’s Passion, in the celebration of the joyful cycle of the triumphant days of Lazarus Saturday and Palm Sunday, we reunite ourselves to Christ, affirm His Lordship over the totality of our life, and express our readiness to follow Him to His Kingdom:
... that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, that if possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead (Philippians 3:10-11).

2024.04.26 00:29 FatMarkTechPriest It's time you all learn...

The first GIF is what bad faith troll morons like to think AEW is.
The second GIF is what objective reality portrays.
We fans of professional wrestling hate this idea that evilFed is the best - because they're not. AEW is the best. AEW is the best in the world. There's one thing the evilFed is better at than these loser IWC edrones and that's kissing that sexpest Vince McHitler's skidmark ass. EvilFed is as good at kissing McHitler's wrinkly rank ass as Hulk Hogan was. However, these FedShills don't know if they're as good as Dwayne. He's a pretty good ass-kisser. Always was and still is. Oops - we true wrestling fans are breaking the fourth wall.
AEW is the best wrestling promotion in the world. They have been the best ever since Day One when they established themselves in this industry. And they've been vilified and hated since that day because Dave Meltzer saw something in them that nobody else wanted to admit. That's right, they're Dave Meltzer guys. You know who else was a Dave Meltzer guy? Kenny Omega. And he's there, just like us pro wrestling fans staying, being ALL ELITE; but the biggest difference between us and Kenny is that we're going to keep eating Korean BBQ without diverticulitis, hygiene, or table manners hindering us.
AEW guys, they've grabbed so many of Vincent K. McHitler's imaginary brass rings that it's finally dawned on them that they're just that. They're completely imaginary. The only thing that's real is the graps every Wednesdays 8PM/EST, Friday 10PM/EST, and Saturdays 8PM/EST. And the fact that day in and day out, for almost five years, they have proved to everybody in the world that they are the best on the microphone, in that ring, and even on commentary. Nobody can touch them.
And yet, no matter how many times they prove it, they're not on your lovely little collectors' cups, they're not on the cover of the TV Guide, they're barely promoted, they don't get to be streaming on Max, they're not on any crappy show on TBS/TNT, they're not on the poster of WrestleMania, they're not on the signature that's produced at the start of the show. They're not on Conan O'Brien, they're not on Jimmy Fallon, but the fact of the matter is they should be. And trust us true wrestling fans, this isn't sour grapes, but the fact that "Dwayne" is in the main event of WrestleMania and they're not, makes me sick!
Oh hey, let us get something straight. Those of you who are cheering for us right now - you are just as big a part of us leaving as anyone else, because you're the ones sipping out of those collector cups right now, you're the ones that buy those programs that AEW guys' faces aren't on the cover of, and then at five in the morning at the airport, you try to shove it in their face thinking you can get an autograph and sell it on eBay, because you're too lazy to get a real job.
I'm leaving with unblemished morality on May 26 at Double or Nothing. Hell, who knows, maybe we'll go and give our morality to New Japan Pro Wrestling. Maybe we'll go back to Ring of Honor.
Hey, Colt Cabana. How's your mom's bank account?
The reason we're leaving is you people because after we're gone you're still going to pour money into this company - we're just a spoke on the wheel - the wheel's gonna keep turning. And we understand that Vince McHitler's gonna make money despite himself. He's a sexpest billionaire who should be a jailed sexpest with nothing to his name. You know why he's not a jailed sexpest? It's because he surrounds himself with glad-handing nonsensical douche bag yes-men like John "Flaccid Father-in-Law" Laurinaitis, who's gonna tell him everything he wants to hear while degrading a human being. And we'd like to think that maybe the Federation will be better after Vince McHitler is dead and under glorious Tony Khan, but the fact is, it's gonna get taken over by his idiotic daughter, who tries so hard to take credit for women's wrestling, and his doofus son-in-law who can suck all air out of Earth with his nose and the rest of his degenerate family.
Let us tell you a personal story about Vince McHitler and his in with SCJerk mods. You know we do this whole subreddit rules— [microphone cuts off]
We've been silenced!

2024 Mock Draft 1st Round with trades and explanations. It got a little crazy but I think it's all still feasible.

2024 NFL MOCK DRAFT. 1st Round

(pff list with no explanations at bottom)
  1. Chicago Bears- Caleb Williams. This is obviously the pick, it’s not even worth explaining why. But I will say this: Caleb is probably the only QB prospect you could compare to Patrick Mahomes where you don’t sound like a jackass making the comparison. Their playing style, the way they move, is actually similar. This isn’t some Zach Wilson bs, this is the real deal.
  2. Washington Commanders- Jayden Daniels. Toss up between him and Drake Maye so I will differ to what’s more heavily speculated to happen. The Heisman winner has drastically improved throughout his college career, showing his ability to adapt and learn, an important skill in the nfl. His rushing ability is also a huge plus in today’s game, but Washington knows from experience that such a skillset can backfire, especially with Jayden’s smaller frame and inability to qb slide when necessary. Washington is hoping they are drafting the next Lamar Jackson and not the next RG3 or Justin Fields. It’s risky, but you can’t blame them for betting on such elite traits. Jayden wants to be a Raider or Viking, but I’m sure he’d rather throw to Terry McLaurin and Jahan Dotson than Patriot’s Pop Douglas and Kendrick Bourne.
  3. New England Patriots- Drake Maye. The Pats are lucky to land Drake here and would be wise to avoid JJ McCarthy, but it is a possibility. Still, right now I’d have to think this is the move. Drake Maye carried his offense and boasts a powerful arm, all his problems are fixable, he’ll just need to work on his footwork and throwing motion, common issues for an nfl rookie. His scouting report is eerily reminiscent of studs like Justin Herbert and Josh Allen, he’s got all the traits you want to take a chance on. The Pats need many positions, but they might as well get the qb first since a good one falls to them here.
  4. Arizona Cardinals- Malik Nabers. Lots of possibilities here, and we know Monti Ossenfort is never afraid to trade down (and then back up again). Still, Arizona needs a receiver, and it’s possible the JJ speculation is overblown and Minnesota (or whoever) can wait to take him or at least not have to trade up so far. Arizona just lost Hollywood Brown, and Nabers would serve as not only a replacement but maybe an improvement. His ability as a deep threat would pair well with Kyler Murray, who likes to improvise and show off his arm.
  5. Los Angeles Chargers- Joe Alt. The pick should be a WR here, but new coach Jim Harbaugh can’t seem to shut the hell up about improving the offensive line. I’ll bite, as the Chargers could use a new RT, Alt could move (it worked for the Lions and Penei Sewell) or they could slide Rashawn Slater over, either way it would represent the overhaul of the oline that Harbaugh seems dead set on. Slater seems to be hurt often anyway, and Alt seems like a special prospect, with a unique blend of size, speed, and iq that you want to see from top 10 picks. He has only allowed 4 sacks in his career, three of which were in his freshman year.
  6. New York Giants- Marvin Harrison Jr. Any WR or even a QB is likely the move here, but the Giants would be lucky to get Marvin Jr. Marvin too blends size speed and iq, and he has shown improvement every year, learning to push off less and improving his yac-ability. His route running ability is already NFL tier, he feels like an extremely safe pick with a high floor and ceiling as well. He should be the next great receiver to come out of Ohio St, following former teammates Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave. The Giants are desperate for a true #1 receiver like this, and they will be praying that the Chargers go with Alt or trade down for a team that wants JJ. I believe they would be happy with Nabers as well though, and maybe Rome Odunze too.
  7. Tennessee Titans- Rome Odunze. I have no idea what Tennessee does here. They need a new RT, but just drafted one in the first last year. They also just gave Calvin Ridley a bag, but between him, an aging DeAndre Hopkins, and a slacking Treylon Burks, the WR feels just questionable (and injury-prone) enough where this pick is warranted, considering they will want to surround Will Levis with as many weapons as possible. Taliese Fuaga, JC Lathan, or even Amarius Mims is possible here, or they could even trade down, but Odunze seems like the safest pick here, he is a sharp route runner with good speed and the size and body control to win 1 on 1s. He is like a faster, more shifty Kenny Golladay.
  8. TRADE- Minnesota Vikings- JJ McCarthy. I think this is a good spot for Minnesota to make their move for the QB they desperately need. They called the Giants bluff, and now move up three spots. The next three teams likely won’t be drafting a qb, but they don’t want Denver or Vegas jumping them. They could get a better deal by waiting too; here I have them trading 11 and 23 for Atlanta’s 8 and 79, so they keep their 1st for next year and actually walk away with an extra 3rd this year. JJ is a difficult prospect to judge, but he is a proven winner with a good arm and mobility, and Minnesota is the perfect landing spot for him, with an excellent offensive head coach in Kevin O’Connell and amazing weapons in Justin Jefferson (JJ to JJ), sophomore Jordan Addison, and beast tight end TJ Hockenson (when he returns from injury). JJ is also very young, so he has lots of room to grow.
  9. TRADE- Indianapolis Colts- Brock Bowers. This might seem crazy, as Chicago could easily make this pick themselves, but Cole Kmet is solid and Chicago needs a DT and only has 4 picks in this whole draft, here they snag Indie’s 2nd (46), only losing this pick and next year’s 6th. Indie needs a weapon for Anthony Richardson, and their current tight end is Kylen Granson. Good te2, not a te1. Bowers is on the smaller side and needs to sharpen his route running, but other than that he is a dream prospect, with an incredible combo of speed and size. He can also block decently for his size and will improve in that regard I think. TE’s are tough to pick top 10 for their salary hit alone, but Indie is desperate for such a weapon and knows they may have to leapfrog the Jets to get who could be the next Rob Gronkowski or George Kittle.
  10. New York Jets- Taliese Fuaga. An offseason spending spree gives the Jets some flexibility here, but one would have to think they go offense. They’d love to get a top three WR or Brock Bowers here, but lose out. I could really see Brian Thomas here, but Fuaga is the better player. He is a mauler in the ground game and improved his pass pro too. His versatility is really key here though, he can be a swing tackle, or play guard (maybe even over newly acquired John Simpson), he can do anything, and this Jets OLine is filled with injury-prone players. Keeping Aaron Rodgers upright has to be the biggest goal here. The Jets will see how the board falls though, as they could basically use any offensive position, even a QB technically.
  11. TRADE- Atlanta Falcons- Laitu Latu, Originally Minnesota’s pick. Unless a top 3 WR is available at 8, I think Atlanta is the first team to pick a defender, and word is they love Latu, who was recently medically cleared, which is a big deal to these teams. While Latu may need to gain size for running plays, he is the best pure pass rusher in this class, with by far the most refined moves. I think Atlanta would like to move down like this too, as they still get the player I was going to mock to them at 8, and have pick 23 as well to address one of their many other concerns.
  12. TRADE- Philadelphia Eagles- Quinyon Mitchell. I have no idea what Denver should do here and got this trade idea from a Tony Pauline rumor. Eagles trade up from 22, giving up their 2nd (53) and next year’s 2nd and getting Denver’s 4th next year. Denver missed out on the best QBs and don’t have a 2nd rounder, and their team needs help in multiple positions, so trading down makes sense. Trading up for Philly makes sense too as they are in win now mode and need a cb badly. Word is they like Mitchell and why not, the guy is an athletic gem and an incompletion machine. I think he will be the first CB off the board and could even go earlier than this. Word is also that the Raiders like him, so the Eagles would be smart to jump them.
  13. Las Vegas Raiders- Terrion Arnold. The Raiders could trade back after missing out on the QBs and Mitchell, but I think Arnold is basically just as good, and they need a better secondary so Max Crosby and newly signed Christian Wilkins can have some time to get to the qb. Arnold needs some refinement, but this isn’t a win-now team anyway, and besides, his athletic traits are elite and worth betting on, and he was also a bit of a ball hawk. Not super confident in this pick to be honest, but only because Vegas has so many options. They could even pick Michael Penix here, but I think they will wait and trade up later in the first or in the early 2nd.
  14. New Orleans Saints- Troy Fautanu. There is a good chance Ryan Ramczyk will medically retire, and even if he doesn’t he likely will soon, and the Saints need a guard too. Fautanu has the versatility to play either. While he needs to add weight in his lower half, he still has a lot of talent and played well against a studly Michigan team in the championship.
  15. TRADE- Chicago Bears- Byron Murphy II. Originally Indianapolis’ pick. Chicago would love another weapon for Caleb, but they really need somebody to stuff the trenches on defense too. Byron is a member of Bruce Feldman’s “freak list” for good reason, he is a violent monster. Just above 300 lbs, he boasts incredible strength so fatter linemen shouldn’t size him down too much, and his speed is deadly as well. Just look at videos of the guy, he’s scary. DT is becoming a more important position too, I could even see them just sticking at 9 and picking him.
  16. Seattle Seahwaks- JC Latham. Seattle’s line is a mess. They could go with Graham Barton or another tackle better suited for guard, but Abraham Lucas is a bit of a liability right now, he did not look the same after his knee injury.. Latham is young and perfectly sized to be a tackle, and moves well too. New coach Mike MacDonald cares a lot about the running game, so beefing up the trenches, and drafting a premium position, makes sense.
  17. Jacksonville Jaguars- Brian Thomas. The Jags can’t seriously be entering the year with Marvin Jones as a starter, right? Even if they are, losing Calvin Ridley means this team needs another weapon, even if they did sign Gabe Davis. I could see them trading for Brandon Aiyuk or Tee Higgins, or even trading up for Malik Nabers (who they apparently love), but the simple answer is they draft Thomas, who should be going around this range anyway. Thomas would immediately become Trevor Lawrence’s tallest target, at 6’4, while also boasting very good speed. I keep saying it, teams love the size/speed combo. Can’t teach that!
  18. Cincinnati Bengals- Jer'Zahan Newton. The Bengals surrendered 4.7 ypc against the run last year, tied for 2nd worst in the league with the Giants and Cardinals, only trailing the Broncos 5. These are not playoff teams, but the Bengals should be, they need to start clogging the trenches. Newton has some size concerns and can be easily double-teamed, but he shoots the gap well and can pass rush well too. If he booms, he could completely change this Cincinnati defense.
  19. Los Angeles Rams- Dallas Turner. The Rams need to replace Aaron Donald’s impact on the QB and don’t have a premier edge rusher. Dallas was productive at Alabama and is very athletic with long arms. He’ll need to learn some more pass-rushing moves, but I think he could much earlier than this.
  20. Pittsburgh Steelers- Graham Barton. Barton was a tackle who is projected to play guard or center because of his length and slower foot speed, and the Steelers need a center. There are other options here (guys more experienced at center), but word is the Steelers love Barton, and why not? He is athletic and a mauler in the ground game.
  21. Miami Dolphins- Jackson Powers Johnson. Miami needs a new guard. Jackson is a barrel-chested MAN. Aside from short arms, this guy is an absolute unit.
  22. TRADE- Denver Broncos- Bo Nix. Originally Philly’s pick, Denver trades back and gets the QB they wanted anyway. Nix is very experienced and has shown a ton of improvement after transferring to Oregon. He had the best adjusted completion percentage and turnover worthy play rate in all of college football. He is a straight shooter who also has the ability to run at least a bit. He relied heavily on screen (most screen yards in college football, 167th in ADoT) and needs to improve his footwork and ability to improvise, but Sean Payton would love to turn this guy into a true bonafide passer. At worst, he is the field general Sean probably wants.
  23. TRADE- Atlanta Falcons- Cooper DeJean. Originally Minnesota’s pick (that they got from Cleveland), Atlanta doubles down on defense after going edge last time. They need help at corner and could use a safety to pair with FS Jessie Bates, so Dejean makes sense, plus they are getting amazing value for him. Dejean had 7 interceptions in his last two years, including two touchdowns. He has ball hawk ability and is a plus athlete. I could see him go much earlier than this.
  24. Dallas Cowboys- AD Mitchell. Dallas could address the offensive line, but with CeeDee Lamb often manning the slot, their two outside receivers are Jalen Tolbert and Brandin Cooks. That’s…pretty bad. They also are yet to resign Lamb. Mitchell is a smooth moving athlete who is also 6’4. He had a great combine, and is a true endzone threat, with 11 tds for the Longhorns last year and only 1 drop. The Cowboys would be happy to keep him in Texas.
  25. Green Bay Packers- Olumuyiwa Fashanu. Big drop here for a very talented player. Why? No real reason, though I feel he could be rated lower than some of the other tackles. Still, Fashanu is an incredible athlete who is great in pass protection, he never let up a single sack in college. He needs to add some weight to improve in the run game, but he is very young and will have the time. Meanwhile, Green Bay is happy to take advantage of an inexplicable fall and likely will use him at LT, replacing his former Penn St teammate Rashad Walker, who was decent but still upgradable.
  26. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Jared Verse. Another unexplained fall for a talented player. This one is an even better fit, as Tampa Bay is desperate for a pass rusher. Verse projects as a great power rusher who boasts strong hands and a great swim move. His short arms could hurt against the run, but his numbers as a pass rusher are hard to ignore, last year he had 11 sacks, 15 hits, 36 hurries, and 2 batted down passes. That’s right on par with Laitu Latu, who went 15 selections ago. This would be a steal for Tampa Bay, and I have a feeling this is another player who will go earlier than I am projecting here.
  27. Arizona Cardinals- Nate Wiggins. Arizona went with a speedy skill player before, and I think they need more of that on both sides of the ball. Wiggins has a skinny frame, but otherwise he is a flawless prospect who could go much earlier, he can play in man or zone with great speed and twitchyness. The Cards have many other needs, but also have an early 2nd rounder and 3 3rd rounders.
  28. Buffalo Bills- Xavier Legette. Any WR would be fine here, as there are plenty of solid ones left, though I think the Bills will try to trade up for Brian Thomas. If they can’t, I think Legette is as good an option as any. I don’t know if he fits the usual Bills mold (speed, good route running), Ladd McConkey or Troy Franklin perhaps do, but thinking about his potential with Josh Allen is so tantalizing. Legette has speed and the size/ability to go up for contested catches. His scouting profile is a lot like DK Metcalf’s, he has all the skills you can’t teach. I think the Bills will trust themselves to develop such a talent, and they need a big swing after trading Stefon Diggs.
  29. Detroit Lions- Kool-Aid McKinstry. The Lions are never afraid to go against the grain on draft day, but their secondary was already lacking before losing Cam Sutton. McKinstry would be a solid replacement, he lacks long speed but has solid length and size and has proven an intelligent player. No need for Detroit to get fancy here, as the rest of their roster is very solid.
  30. Baltimore Ravens- Ladd McConkey. The Ravens have more holes than I expected, but as usual WR is the biggest. Zay Flowers had a good rookie year, but they still need a compliment, as Rashod Bateman is not getting it done and is often hurt. Ladd can work from the slot (which they need) or outside, who is a very sharp route runner and is fiercely fast with the ball in his hands.
  31. San Francisco 49ers- Amarius Mims. The 49ers will be happily surprised to not have to trade up for a solid new RT. Mims lacks experience but is otherwise as good a tackle prospect as almost anybody. He is a bit raw, but the 49ers can sit him at first if need be, they don’t have many holes on their roster, so if this is a luxury pick, that’s fine.
  32. Kansas City Chiefs- Jordan Morgan. KC would love to get a WR like Xavier Worthy here, but they seriously need a tackle, their starters right now are Wanya Morris and Jawaan Taylor. Morgan needs to add strength, and despite Kansas City’s lack of a proper gym, I am sure Andy Ried and co can coach and size him up, he has the proper athletic frame to work with long term.
Some final notes:
  • The Raiders could easily trade up for Michael Penix, but they might not have to until round 2, perhaps with one of the teams that picked a qb in round 1 like the Commanders
  • I could see a lot more teams trading up for offensive tackles. Fashanu likely won’t fall this far
  • It feels weird to see edges and corners going so late, neither is picked until 11. I think it’s realistic, but we will see
  • The Giants passing on JJ McCarthy might surprise some, including Minnesota who may not want to give them the chance. But I have a feeling JJ could be this year’s Will Levis, the king of smoke. But I’m not sure
  • I think the order in which the receivers are chosen may surprise some including me
  • I have no idea what Tennessee is going to do if Alt is already gone.. Could see them trading back or picking Fuaga or somebody, maybe even Fashanu. I know that makes no sense based on where I slotted him, but as I said, the draft can be weird sometimes.
Thanks for reading! Hope everybody enjoys tomorrow.

2024.04.24 00:01 83401846a A few of my favourite British rom-coms/comedy dramas not by Richard Curtis

A few of my favourite British rom-coms/comedy dramas not by Richard Curtis
  1. Bend it like Beckham - Directed and written by Gurinder Chadha. The cast includes Parminder Nagra, Keira Knightley, and Jonathan Rhys Meyers. Jesminder has a passion for football and joins a women's team which she tries to hide from her strict parents. A fun a charming film with a great ensemble cast, great soundtrack too.
  2. Starter for 10 - Directed by Tom Vaughan and written by David Nicholls based on his book of the same name. The cast includes James McAvoy, Alice Eve, and Rebecca Hall. Working class Brian has loved University Challenge since childhood, at Bristol University he just misses a place on their team for the beautiful and glamorous Alice who he aids in cheating in the test. A great film about a classic British TV quiz show, with a horrifying scene in which James McAvoy breaks his skin barrier with that apricot face scrub.
  3. About a boy - Directed by Paul and Chris Weitz and written by Peter Hedges based on Nick Hornby's book of the same name. The cast include Hugh Grant, Nicholas Hoult, Toni Collette, and Rachel Weisz. Despite the American team behind the camera, this film has enough references to British culture for me to put it on this list. Will lives a carefree lifestyle off royalties from his father's Christmas single. He joins a single parents group to meet women and falls for Suzie. Through Suzie he meets Marcus, a socially awkward boy whose mother suffers from depression. Marcus figures out Will has no children and blackmails Will into going out with his mum. The two form and unlikely and heartwarming friendship.
  4. Sliding doors - Directed and written by Peter Howitt. The cast includes Gwyneth Paltrow, John Hannah, John Lynch, and Jeanne Tripplehorn. After being fired from her job, Helen runs to catch the train but misses, the film the rewinds and replays except she manages to catch the train. The film continues to alternate between these two story lines, and how this event changes the course of her life. I just love John Hannah.
  5. Wimbledon - Directed by Richard Loncraine and written by Adam Brooks, Jennifer Flackett, and Mark Kevin. The cast include Paul Bettany, Kristen Dunst, John Favreau, and Sam Neill. Peter Colt is a low seeded professional tennis player. After getting a wild card place into Wimbledon, he decides to retire after this last shot and meets and falls in love with up and coming star Lizzie Bradbury. It's a frothy rom-com with great leads to carry the plot along.
  6. Gregory's girl - Directed and written by Bill Forsyth. The cast includes John Gordon Sinclair, Dee Hepburn, and Clare Grogan. A sweet and sincere film about the awkwardness of teenage life. Gregory's becomes goalie on his school football team when Dorothy takes his spot as centre forward. Finding her very attractive, he tries to find ways to get her attention.
  7. My beautiful laundrette - Directed by Stephen Frears and written by Hanif Kureishi. The cast includes Gordon Warnecke, Daniel Day-Lewis, and Saeed Jaffrey. Set in 1980s London, the film focuses on the reunion and romance of childhood friends Omar and Johnny. Two contrasting worlds collide in a film that has aged very well.
  8. The decoy bride - Directed by Sheree Folkson and written by Neil Jaworski and Sally Phillips. Hollywood starlet, Lara Tyler is set to marry author James Arber. Determined to escape the paparazzi, she decides on a remote Scottish island. Hired as a decoy, Katie Nic Aodh finds herself married to James by mistake. David Tennant could have chemistry with a plank of wood and is great is this light hearted film with a pretty backdrop.
There are tons of others I love, but want to know your faves!

2024.04.22 12:25 garethom Chris Ballard & Drafting All-Pros

So I was catching up with Colts this morning, and I saw this comment on a draft related post by u/Green_Day_Fan, sitting at -108.
Time to laugh at Ballard again folks.
One of the most upvoted responses was this from u/ColtsFan6969
Hahaha, way to draft so many all pro players you dork!
And that's a common sentiment. Ballard drafts All-Pros!
But, compared to peers, how does he stack up? I pulled up the drafts for a tonne of NFL GMs that have been GMs for as long as Ballard or longer.

Disclaimers

On with the show...

The GMs

Chris Ballard, Colts (7 seasons)
Eric DeCosta, Ravens (5 seasons)
Jon Robinson, Former Titans (7 seasons)
Brian Gutenkunst, Packers (7 seasons)
Brett Veach, Chiefs (7 seasons)
Brandon Beane, Bills (7 seasons)
Jon Lynch, 49ers (7 seasons)
Chris Grier, Dolphins (8 seasons)
Jason Licht, Buccaneers (10 seasons)
Les Snead, Rams (12 seasons)
Howie Roseman, Eagles (14 seasons)
John Schneider, Seahawks (14 seasons)
Stephen Jones, Cowboys de facto (14 seasons)
Kevin Colbert, Former Steelers (22 seasons)
Mickey Loomis, Saints (22 seasons)
Bill Belichick, Former Patriots (24 seasons)

Conclusion

So is it just something we say and isn't actually all that true? All but one GM with a 5+ year tenure in recent NFL history has a higher All-Pros per season rate. That'd put him 15th on this list. I think this is another case of us being way more aware of our team and not really paying attention to the achievements of others.
The other All-Pros in Ballard's tenure have been Grigson-era (Kelly, Rhodes), acquisitions outside of the draft (Buckner) or UDFA (Odum, Dulin).

FEMA taps former NM disaster agency head to run Hermits Peak-Calf Canyon Claims Office
The Federal Emergency Management Agency has selected the former head of New Mexico’s disaster response agency to lead the federal office providing $4 billion in compensation to survivors of the state’s biggest-ever wildfire.
M. Jay Mitchell was appointed by Gov. Susana Martinez in 2014 to run the state Department of Homeland Security. He is a fifth-generation New Mexican, a former Air Force colonel and was a senior adviser to IEM, a global security consulting firm, according to biographies on the state and company’s websites.
Mitchell’s hiring comes about three months after the departure of Angela Gladwell, a longtime FEMA employee who led the creation of the newly established Hermits Peak-Calf Canyon Claims Office. Congress tasked FEMA with overseeing the compensation fund for victims of the wildfire caused by two botched prescribed burns in mid-2022.
Fire survivors and their attorneys have repeatedly criticized the office for the slow release of funds, bureaucratic delays and missed legal deadlines to provide payment offers. They also called on FEMA not to replace Gladwell with another federal bureaucrat and instead hire someone from New Mexico who understands its law and culture.
In a news release about Mitchell’s hiring, U.S. Sen. Ben Ray Luján (D-NM), a sponsor of the compensation bill, said he was glad that FEMA announced new leadership to steer the office and quicken compensation.
“The new Claims Office Director must prioritize working with local communities to build trust, communicate effectively to address misinformation, and get money out the door as soon as possible,” Lujan said.
U.S. Rep. Teresa Leger [Fernández], in a statement, said she was “relieved FEMA heeded our calls to choose a new director… with strong New Mexico ties.”
Mitchell is expected to begin in May, FEMA spokesperson John Mills said in a news release. Mitchell did not respond to a request for comment Wednesday evening.
He will lead the joint recovery office in New Mexico, overseeing both the claims office and local implementation of existing FEMA disaster programs, particularly the Public Assistance program that reimburses state and local public entities for disaster-related costs.
“Jay Mitchell is joining a team of dedicated public servants working to help New Mexicans recover from the wildfire through both our claims office and disaster recovery operations,” said Tony Robinson, administrator for the FEMA region that includes New Mexico, in the news release.
Mitchell’s selection comes after additional criticism about the hiring process.
The job opening was listed for seven days, which some survivors said was too short a window to draw qualified New Mexico applicants. Colt Hagmaier, a senior FEMA official, said at a forum on April 8 that the office received a significant number of applicants and that the agency was committed to “hiring someone who understands the mission in New Mexico.”
According to an archived biography on the IEM website, Mitchell served more than 26 years in the United States Air Force and went on to serve as the state’s homeland security and emergency management secretary.
After retiring from the military, he returned to Afghanistan and served in what his state biography described as a senior advisor to the deputy Minister of Defense for intelligence. He then returned to New Mexico and recently served as the village manager for Angel Fire. He is also the president of the David Westphall Veterans Foundation, based in Colfax County, according to the group’s website.
In the news release, FEMA officials said Mitchell would be joining the office at a time of “operational improvements” that have hastened compensation payments.
As of April 17, FEMA has paid more than $500 million, $247 million of which was paid since Jan. 1 of this year. That’s about 13% of the total awarded by Congress.
“Jay Mitchell will continue to build upon these improvements to meet the needs of those impacted and ensure all eligible claims are paid,” said Ben Krakauer, a senior adviser to the FEMA administrator, in the news release.

2024.04.18 12:58 Backseat_Scout Backseat Scout's Carter Bradley + Devin Leary 2024 Draf Eval

Hey all,
Sorry for the delay, but finally back with my QB charting and eval series! I typically did one QB per post but with the draft already a week away, I'll have Carter Bradley and Devin Leary in this post and Brennan Armstrong and Jason Bean in next week's.
Some copy/paste stuff from some of my other posts that I want to also include here for some context on my grading and rankings: The QBs’ accuracy and success against blitz/pressure scores are based on the games charted while the other traits (footwork, pocket presence, “playmaking,” arm strength, release, ball security, and top starter potential) are based on a full season of watching them with my charting solidifying those grades for me. If you want to look back at some of the scores with that in mind, I have links to each QB’s eval I’ve posted so far in the rankings at the bottom of this post.
As usual, I also have how the player’s overall score correlates to my assessment as an NFL player. My prospect scoring goes as follows: -Future All-Pro= 4-3.5 -Top Tier Prospect= 3.49-3.25 -Good Starter= 3.24-3 -Good Role Player= 2.99-2.75 -May Have a Future Role= 2.74-2.5 -Needs Improvement to Contribute= 2.49-2.25 -Unlikely to Contribute= 2.24-2 -<2= Likely Not Worth Rostering
So now, let’s get back to these evals and get to Carter Bradley and Devin Leary!
Carter Bradley, South Alabama Height: 6’3”; Weight: 218 pounds Age on Draft Day: 23 years and 4 months Class: RS Fifth-Year Senior Overall Grade: 2.47/4 (Needs Improvement to Contribute)
2023 Games Charted: Southern Miss, Tulane, and James Madison (Could only find three games for him)

Comp: AJ McCarron
Strengths: Coming out of South Alabama, we have Carter Bradley. The last name isn’t unique but he is the son of Colts defensive coordinator Gus Bradley. If you watched a single broadcast of South Alabama’s games, you’ll be sure to know this fact with the announcers being sure to bring this up more than announcers brought up Braelon Allen’s age.
Bradley is the type of player that knows his assignment: pick up yards and try to keep the offense going. He seems competent at reading defenses and can work through his progressions. He also does a good job navigating the pocket and knows when to step up in the pocket. In most cases, he seems to have a good general awareness of when to bail from the pocket and can pick up a few yards on the ground.
He’s got a pretty compact release, which was a great match for South Alabama’s offense that has a big emphasis on shallow crossing routes. He has a consistent rhythm to his dropback and usually plays like he’s in control of the game. He does a good job keeping his feet planted and getting his toes pointed towards his target when making throws from the pocket. Also, I wouldn’t call this a major strength, but he has shown the ability to throw with different arm angles, adding another wrinkle to his game.
Areas of Improvement: So, from the line of scrimmage to the 10-15 yard line, he’s a very good player. However, there is more to the field than the first 10-15 yards from the line of scrimmage. From there, it starts to get messy. I had the strangest experience watching Bradley when I first watched his Southern Miss game and thought, “oh they’re really pounding the short passes this game.” Then I saw the Tulane game and thought, “oh short passes again even while they’re down by this much?” Then I watched the James Madison game and realized that this is almost entirely all he does.
It would be one thing if he was coming from a Power Five school and had this issue with an overreliance on the short passing game. However, coming from South Alabama and relying on this playstyle against lesser competition is going to be a major red flag for teams. On that note, he will also be in for a major adjustment period while adapting to more complex and faster defenses in the NFL.
In addition, while he mostly wins in the short passing game, I was a bit disappointed with his inconsistent ability to properly lead his receivers. There were too many times when he failed to hit his receiver in stride and took away YAC opportunities. I also have further questions about his versatility outside the pocket, as his throw on the run score was boosted due to the vast majority of them being near or behind the line of scrimmage. While he does have good awareness to scramble upfield, his athleticism is lacking and just seems like he will primarily be a pocket passer at the next level.
From the pocket, he can do a better job using his eyes to move defenders. Also, his heels can get a bit too close during his dropback near the end of his drop. He also has a tendency to overstride during his throwing motion and sometimes even at the end of his drop; he could benefit from narrowing his base. He additionally seems to have a tendency to trail back in the pocket and lose his good footwork when pressure is coming straight at him.
He seemed to struggle recognizing delayed blitzes and stunts and had too many fumbles which may be in part due to his smaller hand size. He does well with stepping up in the pocket with vertical movement, but could do a better job with horizontal pivots to maximize his protection. His arm strength is adequate, but he seemed to struggle getting the ball to the opposite side of the field or deep down the field without putting too much air on passes allowing defenders to adjust. This lack of arm strength also appeared in his release where he struggled to put zip on balls that desperately needed it.
Conclusion: With Bradley likely going on day 3 of the draft and having decent qualities across the board, I wouldn’t be surprised if people try to force a Brock Purdy comp for him. The difference between him and Purdy coming out of Iowa State was that Purdy did a good job getting the ball downfield whereas it remains to be seen if Bradley can do this on a regular basis. His biggest tests in the NFL will be limiting turnovers, particularly fumbles, and finding a way to get the ball downfield. At this time, it seems his highest ceiling may be a plus backup that operates as a game manager.
Due to both having limited ceilings as starters due to being game managers who need to win in the short passing game, good mechanics, and limited arm and running ability, I have AJ McCarron as Bradley’s comp. Bradley may get a chance in the future to be a spot starter like McCarron did early in his career. Like McCarron, I think he could keep his team in the game if the team focuses its game plan on short passing, which he specialized in this past year.

Comp: Nick Mullins
Strengths: Devin Leary broke out at North Carolina State in 2021 with 35 touchdowns, 5 ints, and 3433 yards passing that included strong performances against Clemson and North Carolina. Leary’s 2022 season was cut short due to a torn pectoral muscle. Then in 2023, Learly struggled at Kentucky hurting his draft outlook.
In terms of what Devin Leary did well this year, he mechanically is decent with good consistency keeping his feet planted during his dropback, and doesn’t unnecessarily chop his feet when reading defenses like some of the other quarterbacks in this draft. Leary also will more often than not have a nice, wide base at the end of his drop and does a good job keeping his feet and chest towards his targets both when throwing in and out of the pocket. Leary also has a leg up on some of the other quarterback prospects with his experience in more NFL-style dropbacks at Kentucky and showed the ability to pick up an NFL-style type of offense pretty quickly. At times, Leary will show really good anticipation and understanding of where to get the ball and when to get it there.
Devin Leary also has nice touch on medium distance throws and has good accuracy on back shoulder throws. Leary’s completion percentage for 2023 may not suggest this accuracy, but this was also decreased due to numerous drops by the Kentucky receivers. Leary also performed this year under constant pressure and was on the wrong side of a lot of hard hits but still found a way to be productive. While Leary isn’t a dynamic runner, he does have the ability to make a guy miss in the pocket now and then.
Areas of Improvement: Two of my biggest concerns with Devin Leary in the NFL are his arm strength and decision making. Leary’s upper body may still be working its way back from the pectoral tear but his arm strength seems lacking when watching him. Leary also just struggles with decision making especially when pressure is getting close and will too often throw desperation throws that will sometimes go for picks.
With pressure, Devin Leary also just seems to trail back in the pocket making the issue worse and like I mentioned before, he doesn’t have dynamic legs limiting his ability to breakaway for gains on the run when it gets close. Leary also seems to have difficulty making throws deeper down the field when rolling out or scrambling, limiting his upside when pressure is crashing down. Even when pressure isn’t closing in, Leary will still get stuck staring receivers down and will break a streak of several good decisions in a row with a stubborn decision to either try to force a ball to a guy or just miss a defender. Also, when pressure is held up by Leary’s offensive line, he seems to struggle with finding passing windows through the line which was likely due to his smaller stature.
While Devin Leary is relatively strong mechanically compared to his peers, he could benefit from widening his base during his dropback. Leary’s heels can sometimes get a bit too close together near the end of his drop. Leary’s rhythm for his dropback also seems off and he will too often get his feet tangled up during quick throws.
Devin Leary’s release also seems a tick slow and could be in part related to his arm strength limitations. Leary’s throwing motion also looks to have a bit too much of a windup when going back and his release point seems inconsistent leading to some of his inaccurate throws and overall inconsistent tight spiral. Finally, as I alluded to in the beginning, Leary has had multiple injuries throughout his college career that will make teams question if he is built well enough to survive in the NFL.
Conclusion: I think if a team feels Devin Leary’s arm strength will bounce back with another year removed from his surgery and that they can minimize his poor decisions, then he would be worth throwing at a dart at on day 3. The problem is, you can say and hope that a lot of quarterbacks make that improvement at the next level and it doesn’t typically happen. Throw in that Leary is going to be well past 24 years old by draft day and it feels even more unlikely he’ll make these improvements. Where Leary has some safer upside is in his experience in an NFL-style offense and having experience with the standard dropbacks he’d be doing at the next level.
Due to both having smaller stature, struggles with finding passing windows, and the tendency to be able to move the ball downfield with occasional really terrible decisions, I have Nick Mullins as Devin Leary’s comp. Both Mullins and Leary also struggled with pressure and could make some guys miss on sacks but weren’t much of a threat on the ground. Like Mullins, I think Leary is likely destined for a high- to medium-end back-up role in the NFL. I think Leary’s arm strength, decision making, and overall lack of diversity will be the biggest things that hold him back.

2024.04.18 12:45 Backseat_Scout Backseat Scout's Carter Bradley + Devin Leary 2024 Draf Eval

Hey all,
Sorry for the delay, but finally back with my QB charting and eval series!
My prospect scoring goes as follows: -Future All-Pro= 4-3.5 -Top Tier Prospect= 3.49-3.25 -Good Starter= 3.24-3 -Good Role Player= 2.99-2.75 -May Have a Future Role= 2.74-2.5 -Needs Improvement to Contribute= 2.49-2.25 -Unlikely to Contribute= 2.24-2 -<2= Likely Not Worth Rostering.
So now, let’s get back to these evals and get to Carter Bradley and Devin Leary!

Comp: AJ McCarron
Strengths:
Coming out of South Alabama, we have Carter Bradley.
Areas of Improvement:
So, from the line of scrimmage to the 10-15 yard line, he’s a very good player.
Conclusion:
With Bradley likely going on day 3 of the draft and having decent qualities across the board, I wouldn’t be surprised if people try to force a Brock Purdy comp for him.

Strengths:
Devin Leary broke out at North Carolina State in 2021 with 35 touchdowns, 5 ints, and 3433 yards passing that included strong performances against Clemson and North Carolina.
2024.04.17 18:20 garylanglais (MOVIE SCRIPT LEAKED!) Draft Day 2: The Wolf of Rebuild Road

OPENING SCENE - Afternoon of Draft Day. Eliot Wolf is driving into the team facility and turns on the radio.
Michael Felger: I can't believe you people! He's been the de facto GM since January and guess how many games they've won over that time!? Zero! Zero point zero! They haven't even had a lead!
Tony Massarotti: You're right, Mike! They ran Bill outta town and replace him with a Coach and GM that were supposed to overhaul this offense. And guess how many points they've scored since they came on -- ZEROOOOO!!
Jim Murray (mumbles under his breath): Thank god the money is good because I would much rather be calling into a podcast pretending to be the ghost of Ronald Reagan right now.
Jimmy Stewart: My sources are telling me that the Patriots are going to trade up to number 1 overall tonight and draft Caleb Williams.
(Wolf laughs at himself as he turns off the radio knowing that not one conversation about that has taken place bringing Jimmy Stewart's "inside sources being right" record to a pristine 0 for 847.)

SCENE - Wolf arrives at the team facility and sees Robert Kraft
Kraft: Eliot, good to see you! Hey, I wanted to talk to you about this documentary idea I had.
Wolf: I'm a little busy today, Robert. Ya know, the draft.
Kraft: Oh please, call me Mr. Kraft.
Wolf: We've been over this already, Robert. I'm not a teenager being invited over for dinner by his friend's father. We're both adults. We don't need the mister.
Kraft: Anyways, I know The Dynasty didn't go over so well. But I think I figured out what went wrong. We didn't spend enough time showing all the behind the scenes stuff about how I found all the key people. How I brought them into the organization and I put them in places to succeed. How I kept everyone together in the tough times. Ya know, no one else would've made it all work don't ya think?
Wolf: (stares blankly)
Kraft: And I've got the perfect title! "MINE-asty"!!
Wolf: Uhhh, sounds great, Robert. I gotta get back to the draft.

SCENE - Patriots Front Office in the Draft War Room
(Flashes to television showing NFL Draft - shows Caleb Williams was first overall pick to Bears)
Commissioner Goodell: With the second pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Washington Commanders select, Drake Maye, QB, North Carolina. The New England Patriots are now on the clock.
Wolf: (crushed as Maye was the one he wanted most. But tries to hold back his emotions) Ok. What are we doing? Are we taking Jayden Daniels here?
(Jerod Mayo and Matt Groh both nod yes)
Wolf: Maybe we will. But give me that phone first.
(Wolf calls NY Giants GM, Joe Schoen)
Wolf: Joe, it's Eliot. Hey, so I was thinking. Your quarterback looks like the guy that just did my taxes. Are you really going to hitch your GM career to that guy?...uh huh...yea, we like both QBs but we'd be open to trading back, what's your offer?
Wolf: Ok, so 6, 47 and a 2025 1st for 3? Alright, let me think it over and call you right back.
(Wolf hangs up the phone)
Wolf: Ok, so the Giants are offering their 2nd rd pick and next year's first if we trade back to 6. We can still get a good player...
Groh and Mayo: We're good with it.
Wolf: Wait, I have an idea...!
(Wolf calls Patriots OL Coach, Scott Peters)
Wolf: Scott, it's Eliot.
Peters: Eliot! Good to hear from you! Did you get the package I sent you?
Wolf: Yes, Scott, thanks. But I'm not sure what you expect me to do with 250 lbs of protein powder and pre-workout? But, hey, I'm on a time crunch. What do you think of Evan Neal?
Peters: Oh, do you mean the very talented recent first round pick out of Alabama where the team royally screwed him up and now everyone is forgetting he can be a damn good player and now has minimal trade value??
Wolf: Yea, that guy.
Peters: Wolfie, you put that man in my dojo, he'll come out a goddman samurai. He's our starting LT week 1.
(Wolf hangs up and calls back Joe Schoen)
Wolf: Joe, I need more. Include Evan Neal and you got yourself a quarterback and you can send that other guy back to H & R Block.
(Flashes to NFL Draft podium)
Commissioner Goodell: The New England Patriots have traded the third pick to the New York Giants. And with the third pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the New York Giants select, Jayden Daniels, QB, LSU.
(Flashes to Adam Schefter)
Schefter: The New England Patriots have traded down to the 6th pick with the New York Giants. They will also receive the Giants second round pick, pick 47, next year's first first round pick and Giants OT Evan Neal. Risky move by Eliot Wolf as he trades down and passes on the quarterback.

SCENE - Wolf in the hallway with Mayo
Wolf: Okay, so Cardinals are taking MHJ. They're not trading back. They already have 6 picks in the first 3 rounds. And the Chargers are taking Alt. No way Harbaugh was gonna pass on him. Neither wants to trade all the way back to 11. But you know we're about to get that call from them...
Mayo: I know, I know. But McCarthy is there. You already got us a great haul. He's a good player. We'll figure it out.
(Robert Kraft walks into the conversation)
Kraft: Eliot! Good trade. Now we can take the kid from Michigan! And we can have Tom and Ty back for week 1 and the three of them can ring the bell on top of the new lighthouse. It will be great!
(Wolf steps away from the conversation to think. He pulls out a post-it note from his pocket. It reads DRAFTING JJ IS CRAY CRAY. NO MATTER WHAT.)
(Wolf smiling to himself he turns back to Mayo and Kraft and begins quickly walking back to the war room)
Wolf: Robert, we're not taking him. And it would be great if you spent a little less time on that lighthouse and a little more time on fixing our goddamn weight room!!
(Back in the Draft War Room)
Groh: Eliot, Vikings are on the phone.
(Vikings GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah is on the line)
Wolf: Kwesi, shocked to hear from you. What's this the 10th time this week?
Kwesi: Just trying to make a trade, Eliot.
Wolf: I respect it. But you're as annoying as that 1-877-Kars4Kids jingle.
Kwesi: We're offering 11 and 23 for 6. But we're not giving next year's first. We already gave up next year's second in the Texans trade.
Wolf: Ok, let me get back to you.
(Wolf hangs up the phone)
Groh: Eliot, you can't trade back to 11. We'll lose out on the blue chip guys. We would need to get through the Titans, Falcons, Bears and Jets! All of them could go offense!
(Eliot sits in his chair and quietly thinks. He then smiles and reaches for the phone marked ERNIE on the wall and dials)
Wolf: Ernie! It's Eliot. Hey I got you on speaker. I need a favor. Can you remind me of the golden rule of the draft?
Ernie Adams: Oh, of course. Yes. Don't draft murderers!!
Wolf: Sorry, Ernie. The other golden rule.
Ernie: Oh. The Jets will fuck it up.
Wolf: Thanks, Ernie.
(Wolf hangs up the phone)
Wolf: THE JETS WILL FUCK IT UP! We're trading back. Get me Kwesi.
(Wolf calls Vikings GM, Kwesi Adofo-Mensah)
Wolf: Kwesi, we'll do your goddamn trade. But I want your 2026 first.
(Flashes to NFL Draft podium)
Commissioner Goodell: The New England Patriots have traded the sixth pick to the Minnesota Vikings. And with the sixth pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings select, JJ McCarthy, QB, Michigan.
(Flashes to Adam Schefter)
Schefter: The New England Patriots have traded down again! This time to the 11th pick with the Minnesota Vikings. And this time they also get the 23rd pick and a 2026 first round pick. Eliot Wolf has now passed on Jayden Daniels and JJ McCarthy!

SCENE - Patriots Front Office in the Draft War Room
Commissioner Goodell: With the ninth pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears select, Malik Nabers, WR, LSU. The New York Jets are now on the clock.
Wolf: Ok, recap it for me.
Groh: The Titans took Fashanu. The Falcons took DJ Turner. The Bears took Nabers. And Jets are now on the clock. Meaning, if they take Odunze here we miss out on all of the guys we had at the top tier of our board...
Mayo: The pick is in.
Commissioner Goodell: With the tenth pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the New York Jets select, JC Latham, Tackle, Alabama.
Wolf: THE JETS WILL FUCK IT UP! Call it in, Matt! Rome Odunze! You are a New England Patriot!
Mayo: Holy shit. I can't believe you pulled that off.
Wolf: The way I see it Mayo...we've only just begun.

SCENE - Patriots Front Office in the Draft War Room
Commissioner Goodell: With the 15th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Indianapolis Colts select, Quinyon Mitchell, CB, Toledo. The Seattle Seahawks are now on the clock.
Wolf: Get me Schneider!!
(Groh calls Seattle Seahawks GM, John Schneider)
Wolf: John, how's it going bud?
Schneider: Well, now that I got a head coach who will run the ball from the 1 yard line with the Super Bowl on the line, I'm doing just fine, thanks.
Wolf: I want this pick. I got pick 23 which has now changed hands more times than a Brandin Cooks jersey. 23 and 68 for 16.
Schneider: Easy enough. Done deal.
Mayo: Sooo, who are we taking?
Wolf: You saw what the Bills were able to do with Kincaid last year, right? Well, how about I give you him but faster? We're taking Brock Bowers.
Mayo: What's our background on him?
Wolf: Remember how we sent out those playbooks and asked for notes? Well, you're not gonna believe what he wrote on the first goddamn page... "BB <3's BB". Our owner may not appreciate it, but I do. We're clearly getting a guy who not only has the talent but appreciates the hard work and team first dedication that Bill made so famous. Gimme the phone.
(Wolf calls Brock Bowers)
Wolf: Brock, Eliot Wolf of the New England Patriots. Hey, we're about to make you a Patriot. I gotta admit we love your game. But we are even more impressed with that note you left in the playbook we sent. BB <3's BB...that's good stuff. Bill will always be a part of this organization so keep up that attitude.
Bowers: Uhh, thanks Eliot. Glad to be a part of the team. But BB wasn't for Coach Belichick. It was for Breaking Bad. Yea, I'm a real big fan of that show. Have you ever seen it? Oh man, they got this one episode where a fly gets trapped in the labora--
Wolf: Ok, thanks Brock! I'm going to hand you over to Matt Groh. We'll talk again soon.
Commissioner Goodell: The Seattle Seahawks have traded the 16th pick to the New England Patriots. With the 16th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots select, Brock Bowers, TE, Georgia.

SCENE - Patriots Front Office in the Draft War Room
Groh: That will likely do it for the night, gents. Really good work.
(Wolf pulls out phone and sees incoming call from Steve Belichick)
Wolf: Hey, I gotta step out for a second. Be right back.
(Wolf steps out into hallway)
Wolf: Steve, what a surprise. How's it going?
Belichick: Fine, Eliot thanks. I don't have much time and you don't either. Listen, I'm appreciative of how you handled everything and wanted to return the favor. I know you like Pennix. I've been talking with the coaches and staff here at Washington. He's not going to make it to 34.
Wolf: Damn. I already traded up once. I wasn't planning to again.
Belichick: Well, I'm telling you. You won't regret it.
Wolf: How do you know?
Belichick: His birthday party.
Wolf: Whata mean his birthday party?
Belichick: His last birthday he invited the entire team out and they all went to karaoke. Pennix did a flawless 5 song set of Creed. He was perfect. Had the whole team eating out of the palm of his hand. Never seen anything like it.
Wolf: Thanks, Steve.
(Wolf rushes back into the war room)
Wolf: Ok, change of plans! What pick!!? Who's on the clock!?
Groh: 28. Packers just went on the clock. They traded back to 28 with Buffalo a little while ago. We're trading up again??
Wolf: Yes, we're getting Pennix.
Groh: Pennix??! Here!?
Wolf: Now I know what you're thinking. Why trade up? We already got pick 34. Maybe 6 picks ain't so far down...
Groh: So what you're saying is, can we take him higher?
Wolf: Exactly. I'm not taking the chance. And I'm not Stapp'in until he's on this team.
Mayo: Yes. Yes! With arms wide fucking open!!
Wolf: Quick. Get me Gutekunst!
(Wolf calls Packers GM, Brian Gutekunst)
Wolf: Brian! I want this pick.
Gutekunst: Talk to me.
Wolf: 34 and 103 for 28.
Gutekunst: Hmmm...
Wolf: Brian, if you don't make this deal my next call is to (Lions GM John) Dorsey at pick 29. Not only am I going to get the trade done with him but I'm also going to tell him that it was you that came up with the "John Dork-y" nickname he hated so much. And I'll also have to tell him how you were behind all those flaming bags of dog poop that got left on his front porch...
Gutekunst: You Benedict Arnold...
Wolf: I know, I know. So what's it gonna be?
Gutekunst: Ok, fine. You got a deal.
Commissioner Goodell: The Green Bay Packers have traded the 28th pick to the New England Patriots. With the 28thth pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots select, Michael Pennix, QB, Washington.
Schefter: Eliot Wolf is the busiest man in the league tonight. He makes his fourth trade of the night! This time trading up from pick 34 to select their QB of the future, Michael Pennix. When I asked Eliot how he felt about these two trade ups he texted me back, "I'm careless, I believe. My sacrifice."
(Back in the Patriots Draft Room the front office erupts in excitement and high fives after the pick announcement. The group quickly realizes that Eliot Wolf has disappeared. They look over into the corner of the room and a basketball hoop suddenly appears. And Eliot Wolf now dressed in crushed purple velvet jumpsuit hangs from the rim)
Wolf: Weaponize...blouses.

SCENE - Wolf sitting outside of Kraft's office
(TV is on displaying ESPN panel recapping the NFL Draft)
Wingo: What an incredible night for the New England Patriots here at night 1 of the NFL Draft. Eliot Wolf makes more trades than a guy on Wall Street and he walks away with Rome Odunze, Brock Bowers and Michael Pennix. Not to mention trading for Evan Neal and collecting two future first round picks. Just an incredible haul and the clear winners of the night.
Wingo: As mentioned, one of those picks was Michael Pennix. A lefty QB. I just happen to have a lefty QB here with me. Mark, what do you think of New England's night?
Mark Brunell: ...(sniff) (wipes eyes and nose)...Ya know, Trey (choking up)...
Wingo: Everything ok, Mark?
Brunell: (trying to hold back tears)
Pat McAfee: Are you kidding me? Is Brunell crying again???
Brunell: I just don't believe what Tom Brady had to say...
McAfee: This guy sucks! (throws golf club)
(Wolf laughs to himself)
Kraft: Eliot, come on in!
(Kraft and Wolf sit down in his office)
Kraft: Amazing job tonight. Very well done.
Wolf: Thanks, Robert. And we still have pick 47 tomorrow.
Kraft: Please, call me Mr. Kraft.
(Wolf pulls out phone and sees incoming call from John Lynch)
Wolf: Uhh, I need to take this. Sorry.
Wolf: John, how's it going?
Lynch: Eliot, great night tonight.
Wolf: Thanks. What can I do for you?
Lynch: Your guy just called me. After what you did tonight, he changed his mind.
Wolf: What do you mean?
Lynch: Pick 47 and that 2026 Vikings 1st you picked up tonight for Aiyuk and you got a deal. And hypothetically speaking of course, he's good with those contract extension terms you suggested.
Wolf: Ok, thanks John. Let me call you right back and we'll get this finalized.
(Wolf hangs up phone and looks at Kraft)
Wolf: We can start with you calling me, GM.

(THE END)

2024.04.16 11:09 GoddessXxxena dont understand why this post was deleted from another 90 day reddit but ok.. My the single life tell all personal thoughts.

Season 4 was probably one of the more hard to watch seasons and that says something since we have seen colts personal journey on here as well.
Jamal just overall gives daddy issues & insecurity whenever he has to bring up Tim. Luisa airing out their sex life or lack of thereof I thought was very childish/ thirsty. I find it so interesting how such a pretty woman can have such a unlikeable character. They more or less had WE HAD SEX written on their forehead so acting coy helped absolutely NO ONE. Veronica was insanely weird for dating someone like Jamal but hey she was sexless with Tim for 3 years so she's used to weird shit. I feel like when we put the daughter in the mix the obvious differences between Jamal and Veronica are showcased heavy. Girl needs to end it with the spawn of kimbawlly and find a mature man with her lifestyle they exist girl , you just gotta stop putting that tinder age at 21 and move it up 🤣 In sum kinda glad both tim and veronica (fingers crossed) ended it.
Chantel was a hot mess but she always has been. I think she just doesn't know how to be like a live laugh love girly , she wants to crash course every relationship and she gets surprised why her mom has some outlandish ass requests when it comes to her relationships. It definitely felt like that greece trip showed just how lost and confused she is. I think she honestly needs to stay single for a bit and just enjoy life maybe snip the umbilical cord first before she can actually obtain a healthy relationship. You just met the guy and you're already in tears for him. I will say no pantygate was unnecessary and miss debbie needed to mind her business she sounded like a dated broken record and I can't believe she tried kissing chantels ass in the end like she wasn't shaming her every second her old ass could.
Tyray although sweet every damn time the poor soul opened his mouth I could see why he has been a virgin for so long. The giggle does indeed get tiring my friend. I will say his story was the hardest to sit through cringe wise. I do find it sweet that he had somewhat of a happy ending.
John and Meghan I kinda see working not gonna lie. Although it seems rushed , john is an older man and maybe being around her daughter and her more often has really solidified that he wants a family now. I think patrick was being more of a crybaby this season and pretty judgmental however I believe it's kinda fair considering how john himself acted when Thaiz first came into the picture. John honestly probably was more open to having children of his own after being around his brothers baby. I do find it very sweet how accommodating he has been with her daughter and I don't know how they(patrick & thaiz) cant see how good of a dad he would/could be.
The mIsS dEbBiE arc is tiring , I don't care for someone who was willing to marry a 23 year old moroccan wannabe rapper. Ruben seems like a nice dude , but it definitely feels like all if this was pure and unaltered tlc screenwriting. Julien being so worried about his mother getting scammed since he's out here doing the same thing. His relentless attacks to ruben were so childish and tiring , throw the whole man baby away. Cosplaying as a cop with lil baby rap chips in full view not 4PF at all. Also that weirdass sign off lady tangerine did to veronica and mama debbie was almost as cringey as the outfit she was wearing.
Tim is Tim per usual , I feel like he was straightforward and Luisa just wouldn't get the point because she's used to having men drooling at her feet like jamal. And it definitely was a get back at tim the hotel sex but the thing is this would've hit if tim hadn't already made it known he wasn't interested in her. Desperate enough to continue trying to get him jealous after getting dismissed over and over is wild, especially with jamal. Tim doesn't like him because he's a fuckboy and time waster , if anything they did him a favor of not having to hear about veronica-jamal related drama anymore. The trash took itself out.
And natalie, I sympathize with the fact that she is in the united states all while her home country is destroyed. Being stranded in all of places like LA with no job or prospects must definitely have a daunting feeling. However, I find it very messed up how everyone attacked Josh. From the look and sound of it he's a very generous man who got way in over his head with Natalie. She is very dismissive of other people's emotions but wants every man in her life to be receptive of hers. Her mom is also a force to be reckoned with , having a mother like that breathing down your neck for a grandchild must be driving Natalie insane. Might be a unpopular opinion, but I definitely feel like the only way Mike was ever gonna get that divorce was this way. And a little interesting to add Debbie deliver it but they definitely were right in the aspect that is better that she gets it from a friendly face than from a sheriff. I also found it wild that out of everyone it seemed like mIsS dEbBiE was the only one losing it over a situation that had nothing to do with her.
bonus peeps
Caeser , I forgot he was there ngl.
Mama Debbie I definitely have never been a fan of. Other than some random outbursts towards josh she was pretty level headed. She was definitely right , lying about your age is very lame at their big of ages. But she also did not deserve mIsS dEbBiE trying to age shame her like they arent 3 years apart, yall all practically the same age and both look it. I felt a little bad because she probably did feel shitty after seeing natalie react that way since they are friends but It was definitely very nice of mike to stand up for her even though he put her through that.
and that's a wrap on the not so single life !

2024.04.13 20:53 spectredirector Around now - April 61'

1961

April, the CIA's Brigade 2506 was about to attempt to seize the Bay of Pigs, in Cuba, to assassinate Fidel Castro - who had a private island in de Bahia de Cochinos. The American military trained dissident Cubans hoped to begin a resistance effort to overthrow the communist revolution, with the CIA's intent being an explicable reason to involve the US military in an invasion of Cuba - presumably under the pretext that a popular Democratic revolution was underway - and we know how America feels about bringing freedom via military operations.
On this day in 1961 the paper of record from my hometown ran an article saying as much - that this plot existed and would happen. 4 days later it would, and it'd be a spectacular embarrassment that President Kennedy would take responsibility for, and hold against the CIA. Yet all indications are it did not stop Kennedy from pursuing regime change in Cuba, it simply made him mad at the CIA for attempting to manipulate him.
CIA Director Allen Dulles, CIA Deputy Director Charles Cabell, and deputy director for Plans Richard M. Bissell Jr. were all forced to resign by early 1962.

1963

Lone wolf disgruntled wife beater dead end loser Lee Harvey Oswald unilaterally assinates JFK, solo, as would later be proved to 75% of 1963 Americans by the official government record produced by the Warren Commission. A few days after the assassination, Jack Ruby kills Oswald - the only suspect, the definitive motive claimed being...
Ya I don't know people, something something Cuba I guess. He was in Russia for a second, I guess that's a slam dunk motivation.
The Warren Commission was formed to investigate the only modern day assassination of an American president - at the height of the Cold War - it stands to reason it was done by the best people with the least reasons to be involved in a conspiracy or cover up. Before the end of November, LBJ will convene a panel to do this work, first amongst the arbiters asked to undertake this momentus task of discovering the truth of the assassination of John F. Kennedy was - Allen Dulles - former head of the CIA. Ya, the guy forced to resign by JFK not a year earlier.
Also in 1963 - bullets become magic. LBJ is caught on tape saying the American people will never buy that horseshit, cuz he, the president of the United States, he couldn't be made to believe the magic bullet theory. He didn't think any Americans were dumb enough to believe it. LBJ gets more right on that subject every year after 1963.

1964

LBJ commits 150k US troops to a war in Vietnam. LBJ has again been caught on tape trying to get Secretary of Defense McNamara to create the conditions for an excuse to sell the American people. This will be the Gulf of Tonkin 1 & 2 events, now admitted to by our government as false pretenses.
Also in 1964 Colt Armalite debuts it's glitchy assault rifle platform, the m-16. It'll be rapidly prototype tested by a bunch of dead American kids in Vietnam. It takes a few years of body bags for colt to perfect the design by adding a chrome striking plate and converting the recommended ammunition over to a different type of gunpowder. The weapon jamming in combat is documented by our military as a primary cause of casualty amongst US and South Vietnamese soldier, over the course of the first 2 full years of the weapons deployment - strictly as a combat infantry men's primary killing tool, designed at US tax payer expense.

today

The CIA has drones. As recently as the withdrawal from Afghanistan - ya, the US one - the CIA mistakenly killed an innocent Afghan family with a hellfire missile fired by a remote controlled complex industrial military machine that the CIA neither confirms nor denies the existence of. All while Northrop and Raytheon hold convention center events where the general public can hear all about how their tax dollars R&D the finest concept car murder birds.
The m-16 assault rifle platform developed by colt Armalite is now the ubiquitous "AR" platform we all know today. It's owned 200k times over in American households, and last year it surpassed car accidents as the reason American children don't live to adulthood. So as not to confuse this with the 18 to 21 year old "kids" dying because of this rifle in 1965, I'll clarify by saying today's kids are like 6 years old, and get killed in math class. In America. By the colt Armalite design we paid for to fight a jungle war under false pretenses immediately following JFK's death. I feel very protected from government overreach by that fact - don't you?
The 2nd amendment is first amongst those ratified without containing the 3/5ths compromise, so that's the real first amendment, right? We want it this way, and certainly there's no way any of these things listed under the Today heading could be related to the JFK assassination.
Allen Dulles said so.
Just couldn't convince LBJ, so we're here now by our own accord - organically we spent our tax dollars on designing and building new weapons, nuclear and child-facing. But just because Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, and Raytheon were the biggest purveyors of military equipment in 1963 doesn't necessarily equate to why they are the exact same thing today - the US government's largest vendors and the world's largest arms manufacturers - can't make an event in 1963 a conspiracy that makes that the case today. That conspiracy would have to be too vast - the kinda vast conspiracy that would never get sorted under the system constructed by the assassins - if the assassination was meant to demonstrate the CIA and arms manufacturers were the real power, not the people's elected president, then we'd be here now - we are here now, but not cuz of that reason.
We know we just did it to ourselves, cuz Oswald acted alone, and the head of the now defunct CIA told us so, right?
Not like any heads of the CIA then became vice president. It'd be crazy if a former head of the CIA was actually president..... When the Berlin wall fell and we taxpayers decided the Iraqi desert would look better covered in depleted uranium.
Just to clarify the last, I'm talking about the actual head of the CIA turned president and military industrial war leader -- not his son, you know, the one who Gulf of Tonkin'd us into deciding to refresh the depleted uranium levels in Iraq 20 years later.

check my facts

I'm wrong a lot, and what I'm half sarcastically proposing is both the JFK assassination was a conspiracy, and that we remain living under the conspiracy, and that all the motives the conspiracy theories assigns as reason for conspiracy - those things have happened. LBJ didn't buy the magic bullet theory, called all you that do fuck'n dumb.
Then he found a false pretense to put in an immediate order for less assault rifles than retailed in the Midwest United States last year.
And a joint partnership of Lockheed and the rest just announced there'll be a demonstration of the space vehicle to replace the 1970s era space shuttle, once pride of the space industry, now retired entirely in favor of corporate private entities who own all our data. The defense contractors who are paid more than the department of education are only a decade behind schedule and an Iraq war over budget, but they're almost done working out the kinks in the f-35 to complete sales to foreign countries.
I meant this to be short and sweet, factual and glaring in its simplicity. Maybe this is the best I can do - but I hope there's someone on this sub who can take what I'm saying, and fuck'n condense it to the critical points.
Cuz IMO - if you got the critical facts, you see what LBJ saw, and then you get mad - then a bit scared - but eventually we believe our eyes, and stop letting the people the conspiracy theory says did the deed keep denying they did it - and being the official arbiters of their own complicity.
They are complicit cuz our government can't protect school kids today, from the arms manufacturer of 1963. And that trend gets worse, not better.
And the government is complicit cuz Americans are dumb AF, and public education has been funded less than the "defense" industry at a scale of 1000 to 1 --- out of our tax dollars. The Wall fell in 1992, the buying nukes and b-52s by the bushel really paid off - we ended the threat of Soviet aggression entirely. We just have to pay for a proxy hot war against a former KGB agent's Soviet aggression. History goes - Gorbachev, then Yeltsin, then Putin - congratulations you've won the Cold War on "defense" spending. Making all those new nukes Kennedy didn't want really valuable - so we should keep paying for their upkeep forever. They're complex industrial military ICBMs, you pay to upkeep those if you don't want Arkansas to melt - like almost happened in 1991.
JFK dies - likely by a conspiracy. There's a lot of coverup afterwards - that is conspiracy, just not required to make the assassination a conspiracy.
We are here now, and hate it. I have a kid in school - I shouldn't be afraid for that fact. There's no 5th generation stealth warplane Lockheed Martin is gonna sell Turkey that makes me feel safer. But we're all paying taxes right now.
It's April after all, and that's when our government wants their "defense" budget money from us.
If there's someone who just finished with TurboTax and puts eyes on this post - if you're mad now - you aren't alone. You are in the majority.
If you come at me about the official government record being so damn simple and plausible I must be a nut for thinking they are a suspicious entity to believe and trust - in an era we all know WMD was a lie to manipulate us into defense spending and military action in foreign lands - if that's what you want to discuss, fine, I'll do that too.
But officer Tippit and umbrella man don't matter much to Newtown parents, nor me really - and the Afghanistan veteran who feels the same as the Vietnam veteran - used and lied to - they were, and that's a government conceded fact you can't argue away.
That's the conspiracy. The only one ever. And the only reason it hasn't come to be discovered in the 60 subsequent years is because it's still ongoing.
It makes sense no one could actually keep a secret for 60 years. That's probably why there's so many people who keep telling secrets that confirm precisely that - the secret isn't being kept.
Not by anyone besides the population still satisfied that Allen Dulles was the guy to tell us the truth.
To recap, Allen Dulles is the first civilian leader of the CIA, fired by JFK, and also the guy who puts the official government stamp on the Warren Commission report LBJ thought dumb ass Americans would be too smart to believe.
There's the secret let slip. By the horses mouth, available to read in the government records - and it happened in 1963 - if you believe the government, you're dumber than a Texas politician thought you are. And that's the simplest explanation.
We the People are dumb sheep who let themselves be manipulated by whoever tells them the simplest shit - even when it's super complex and impossible to believe - the dumb American has been told.
And believing what you're told is the simplest solution - in perpetuity.

2024.04.11 12:38 Acceptable-Ask-5477 Naphtali is a doe bringing good tidings. (the gospel)

Genesis 30:8 Rachel said, "I have had a great struggle with my sister, and I have won." So she named him Naphtali.

Genesis 49:21 Naphtali is a doe set free that bears beautiful fawns.

In the final prophecy of Naphtali in Genesis, he is uniquely depicted as a hind, a female deer, that bears many offspring.

Just one line, the powerful and enigmatic prophecy of Naphtali raises curiosity as to why he is referred to as a hind.

As mentioned earlier, all the prophecies concerning Jacob's twelve sons had the remark that they are "what will happen to you in the last days."

Matthew 11:16 "To what can I compare this generation? They are like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling out to others:

Matthew 11:17 'We played the pipe for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn.'

This is a prophecy about [the Son] and those around him arising within "this generation" that Jesus foresaw and addressed.

This generation becomes "our generation," and the testimony of [the Son] arising within "our generation" is fulfilled and connected to Naphtali's prophecy.

Proverbs 1:1 The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel:

Proverbs 5:19 A loving doe, a graceful deer— may her breasts satisfy you always, may you ever be intoxicated with her love.

In the Bible, a female deer is described as graceful and prolific, giving birth to many offspring.

It serves as a symbol of freedom, agility in traversing mountains, and a bearer of joyful and good news.

Proverbs 1:5 let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance—

Proverbs 1:6 for understanding proverbs and parables, the sayings and riddles of the wise.

Although seemingly straightforward, the proverbs contain hidden riddles and sayings of God that require deep interpretation.

As we contemplate the proverbs, we often seek lessons applicable to our lives. However, upon closer examination, we find that they also serve as teachings from God to [the Son] of the generation, veiled in enigmatic metaphors and symbols.

Solomon is called the king of peace and wisdom.

Through the proverbs that reveal hidden meanings and teachings, God has recorded the virtues that the [Son], as a king, should possess.

The [Son], who rises as the Messiah and king, comes to understand the contents of the proverbs recorded in advance within one generation and finds the interpretations of the enigmatic as a savior.

Proverbs 5:1 My son, pay attention to my wisdom; listen closely to my understanding.

Proverbs 5:2 So that you may maintain discretion and your lips may safeguard knowledge.

Proverbs 5:18 Let your fountain be blessed and rejoice in the wife of your youth.

Proverbs 5:19 A loving doe, a graceful deer— may her breasts satisfy you always, may you ever be intoxicated with her love.

In Proverbs 5, the [Son]'s beloved woman, depicted as a doe, appears.

She is described as a doe or a hind, symbolizing a light, swift, and free animal.

Her breasts satisfy the [Son], and the [Son] rejoices in her love.

The breasts symbolize a mother's abundance to provide milk to a child and to quench the thirst of the needy like a drink for the thirsty woman, filling them with understanding.

Song of Solomon 1:12 While the king was at his table, my perfume spread its fragrance.

Song of Solomon 1:13 My beloved is to me a sachet of myrrh resting between my breasts.

Similar passages are found in the Song of Solomon.

The Song of Solomon, also known as the Song of Songs, is a unique chapter in the Bible that portrays the deep love between two lovers.

While the Psalms contain many songs and poems recorded by David and other Psalmists, the Song of Solomon stands out as a separate chapter, depicting two lovers who deeply cherish each other's souls.

Song of Solomon 2:1 I am a rose of Sharon, a lily of the valleys.

Song of Solomon 2:2 Like a lily among thorns is my darling among the maidens.

Song of Solomon 2:3 Like an apple tree among the trees of the forest is my beloved among the young men. I delight to sit in his shade, and his fruit is sweet to my taste.

There was a woman. She was an ordinary woman with nothing special about her.

One day, she began to feel a little puzzled as she looked at the words of the Song of Solomon in the Bible, where a son, depicted as an apple tree in the midst of the forest, and a daughter, described as a lily among thorns, appeared.

She realized that the religious group she belonged to is referred to in the prophecies as the "house of Israel" and came to think that the Israel called by God through his spirit is her family, her religious group, not the present-day Middle Eastern Israel.

She closely examines the transgressions committed by the house of Israel in the prophecy and compares them to the actions of her own religious group in reality.

Realizing that the actions of her own religious group align with the transgressions of the house of Israel described in the prophecy, she becomes convinced that the leader of her faith group is referred to as "Israel" in the prophecy.

Despite sharing her realization, they refuse to accept it.

It's unlikely that anyone would readily accept being identified as the subject depicted in the prophecy, described as committing numerous transgressions.

People tend to believe that they are inherently good beings.

Therefore, they completely deny being the target described as transgressing and being admonished in the prophecy.

However, despite examining it thoroughly, she, who is convinced that her group is referred to as Israel in the prophecy, undergoes a great deal of inner turmoil.

Amidst this, she discovers a friend on her social media, such as KakaoTalk messenger, who appears to be faithful in their faith.

He is someone she met only once with her friends ten years ago, and through his profile picture and username, he wholeheartedly expresses his love for God.

Without any explanation, she posts the Bible verse she has come to realize in her username and uploads a profile picture of a lily among thorns, as described in the Song of Solomon.

He seemed to know something. And he expresses his love for her and reveals his heart through his username.

Even though the two did not engage in conversation, they recognize each other and fall in love through the contents of the Song of Solomon.

In a way, novel-like events took place in reality.

The world is vast, with around 8 billion people on Earth.

Among the diverse races, nations, and people, two individuals fell in love through the contents of the Song of Solomon.

Genesis 49:9 Judah is a lion's cub; from the prey, my son, you have gone up. He stooped down; he crouched as a lion and as a lioness; who dares rouse him?

He knew that he was depicted as [Judah] in the Bible, raised up as [King] Solomon, and symbolized as the [Son] bearing witness to Jesus.

All the contents of the Song of Solomon fell under the category of prophecy.

The lily among thorns is a flower depicted as noble despite being amidst thorns.

The apple tree in the forest is described as a tree bearing joyful fruits.

The Song of Solomon prophesies the love story between Solomon and the Shulammite woman, which is ultimately fulfilled by Christ and the bride of the Lamb within a chosen generation.

The two individuals fatefully come to realize this fact.

Song of Solomon 3:1 On my bed by night I sought him whom my soul loves; I sought him, but found him not.

Song of Solomon 3:2 I will rise now and go about the city, in the streets and in the squares; I will seek him whom my soul loves. I sought him, but found him not.

Song of Solomon 3:3 The watchmen found me as they went about in the city. “Have you seen him whom my soul loves?”

Song of Solomon 3:4 Scarcely had I passed them when I found him whom my soul loves. I held him, and would not let him go until I had brought him into my mother's house, and into the chamber of her who conceived me.

I have met someone whom my soul deeply loves.

It may seem like an unbelievable story, akin to a novel, that she is directed towards someone she met only once, ten years ago, without even engaging in proper conversation. However, such events have indeed occurred in reality.

Love can be defined in various ways, and there can be many reasons for loving someone.

Family, romantic partners, friends, acquaintances, and everything dear and close to us.

When a person loves someone, there should be a connection based on familiarity, comfort, trust, affection, and belief in that person being cherished.

Imagine falling in love with someone from your past whom you met only once, without any reason, ten years later, without any conversation. That's what happened to me.

I believe it's a destined connection, a true love achieved through divine intervention.

He shares the same sentiment as I do—a love that connects without reason.

It's a beautiful love manifested through the Bible.

It was the love created by the holy God.

Throughout the long span of 6,000 years, living on Earth, every human walks the same path of life and eventually faces death.

While those who believe in the existence of Jesus may claim to have been saved,

I see practical salvation being achieved through the [Son] whom God raises up as testified in the prophecies, just as depicted in the Old Testament.

The love I have encountered, and the testimony of the [Son] recorded in the Bible, culminate in Him being raised up as the [Messiah] sent by God for us.

Song of Solomon 4:1 Behold, you are beautiful, my love, behold, you are beautiful! Your eyes are doves behind your veil. Your hair is like a flock of goats leaping down the slopes of Gilead.

Song of Solomon 4:2 Your teeth are like a flock of shorn ewes that have come up from the washing, all of which bear twins, and not one among them has lost its young.

In the Song of Solomon, King Solomon lavishly praises the Shulammite woman, his beloved, using various metaphors to describe her appearance.

He uses metaphors related to her hair, eyes, and teeth, not merely for superficial compliments but to depict her as the predestined figure outlined by God, who brings forth results through all her actions, just as it's described in the Scriptures.

She meticulously connects the evidence of the Messiah recorded in both the Old and New Testaments, interprets them through linked sentences, and presents the fruits of her labor to the [King], likening it to bearing twins and not being barren.

The essence of a woman was to assist her husband, bear children, and find joy through it.

Though times have changed and women's authority has risen, the fundamental roles of humans began with men protecting and women assisting and bringing joy to men.

In the Song of Solomon, the actions of the Shulammite woman, who witnesses for her King, are recorded as evidence of her love for the person she loves.

In the Psalms, there are many cries of distress from characters who pour out their grievances to God, especially when faced with hardship and adversity.

These are not accounts of past events but portrayals of the hearts of the Messiah and those surrounding him, as depicted in the Scriptures.

The "enemies" causing distress and suffering are none other than one's "brothers" and "beloved ones."

Their hearts, depicted as characters from past events, are prophesied and recorded in the Scriptures.

Jesus said that all these things would be accomplished before that generation passed away.

He also stated that His words, the words of God, would never disappear.

This signifies that the events prophesied in the Old Testament must ultimately come to fruition within a single generation.

The two families of God, depicted as Israel and Judah, and the Son must fight each other, just as depicted in the Psalms, to prove their desire to be chosen by God.

The Shulammite woman, too, must fulfill her prophesied role. It's all part of the prophecy.

This is prophecy. Characters designated in the Old Testament must eventually come to pass. It's heartbreaking and painful beyond measure.

The enemies are not the world but one's own household. Those prophesied to become the [Son], who will save all humanity, must turn their brothers and beloved ones into enemies and contend with them.

Observing those who love only God and cannot love their brothers, what lessons can we learn?

God is wise, knows our hearts, and reigns above all.

Through His absolute goodness, He demonstrates miraculous grace to a single generation.

Isaiah 55:8 "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the Lord.

Isaiah 55:9 "As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Isaiah 55:10 Just as the rain and the snow fall from heaven and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,

Isaiah 55:11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

Isaiah 55:12 You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.

Isaiah 55:13 Instead of the thornbush will grow the juniper, and instead of briers, the myrtle will grow. This will be for the Lord’s renown, for an everlasting sign, that will endure forever."

The painful experiences that humanity must endure for salvation are symbolized by thorns and briers, but the astonishing power of the One who shows the way of recompense is also depicted through successful metaphors like the juniper and the myrtle.

Moreover, He shows His anointed ones the battles and conflicts written in the prophecy, guiding them not to hate their brothers but to love them and follow the path of peace and righteousness. This complex and manifold content of suffering must actually be fulfilled in the real world for humanity to be granted salvation.

Solomon is a [king] of wisdom and peace. Before the end of the world, God has recorded a plan through a son, described as Solomon, to annul the many wars destined in the prophecy with the authority of the [Almighty], and to bestow truths and salvation unheard of before upon many.

Matthew 21:5 "Say to Daughter Zion, 'See, your king comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.'"

Zechariah 9:9 "Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey."

Zechariah 9:10 "I will take away the chariots from Ephraim and the warhorses from Jerusalem, and the battle bow will be broken. He will proclaim peace to the nations. His rule will extend from sea to sea and from the River to the ends of the earth."

Psalm 72:7 "In his days the righteous will flourish; prosperity will abound till the moon is no more."

Psalm 72:8 "He will rule from sea to sea and from the River to the ends of the earth."

Psalm 72:11 "All kings will bow down to him and all nations will serve him."

Psalm 72:12 "For he will deliver the needy who cry out, the afflicted who have no one to help."

Psalm 72:13 "He will take pity on the weak and the needy and save the needy from death."

Psalm 72:14 "He will rescue them from oppression and violence, for precious is their blood in his sight."

Psalm 72:17 "May his name endure forever; may it continue as long as the sun. Then all nations will be blessed through him, and they will call him blessed."

Psalm 72:18 "Praise be to the Lord God, the God of Israel, who alone does marvelous deeds."

Psalm 72:19 "May his glorious name be praised forever; may the whole earth be filled with his glory. Amen and Amen."

The era of Solomon mentioned in Psalms is indicated in the future tense, suggesting events that are yet to happen rather than past history. It is prophesied that the era of God's [king], emerging in the chosen generation, will last forever, and all nations of his era will eternally be grateful and praise for the salvation and peace he brings. Solomon is indeed a figure of the past, but the son called by his name exists in our generation, meant to fulfill many of the unfinished prophecies in the present tense.

It is prophesied that the glorious and holy [name] of God, who bestows such grace through His Son, will be praised forever.

As Zechariah 9 suggests, through the [king] of Matthew, we find the testimony of the Messiah, connecting Solomon=Judah=Jesus, and through him, we receive salvation as described in Psalm 72.

The Shulammite, Solomon's beloved, discovers the testimony of Jesus one by one as she reads the Bible and offers the fruits of her realization to her king, who then appears before the people with those fruits.

This is the grace and blessed news given to our generation, receiving the "truth" connected to the work of the cross within our era.

We hear and receive salvation through the "truth" of the amazing deeds unfolded within one generation, through the lips of His Son, covering both the Old and New Testaments.

How then can we find the prophesied path that King Solomon, who is to prevent the destined tribulations and wars, will give all the poor in the world blessings, peace, and eternal life?

It talks about a path that blesses everyone who fears God and hopes for salvation.

Psalm 72:1 (A Psalm for Solomon) "O God, give your judgments to the king, and your righteousness to the king's son."

1 Chronicles 28:6 "He said to me, 'Your son Solomon is the one who will build my house and my courts, for I have chosen him to be my son, and I will be his father.'"

Psalm 72 verse 1, despite being the king who governs the nations as the savior of mankind, asks for God's judgment to be given to the "king" and righteousness to the "king's son."

The fact that the king, who is his father, and Solomon himself as the king's son, reflects Solomon's righteous heart, desiring judgment for Israel (represented as the brother called by God) and recognition of his enduring righteousness.

Genesis 49:24 "But his bow remained strong, and his arms were made agile by the hands of the Mighty One of Jacob (from there is the Shepherd, the Stone of Israel),"

Genesis 49:25 "by the God of your father who will help you, by the Almighty who will bless you with blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that lies beneath, blessings of the breasts and of the womb."

Genesis 49:26 "The blessings of your father are mighty beyond the blessings of my ancestors, up to the utmost bound of the everlasting hills. They shall be on the head of Joseph, and on the brow of him who was separate from his brothers."

The blessings "Israel" will have are those described in Deuteronomy 33 by Moses' blessings.

Conversely, the blessings "Judah," or Solomon, will have are continued in Genesis 49, each possessing their designated blessings.

Genesis 48:6 "Your offspring born after them shall be yours; they will be called by the names of their brothers in their inheritance."

Genesis 49:22 "Joseph is a fruitful bough, a fruitful bough by a spring; his branches run over the wall."

Joseph is described as a son who will bear much fruit (offspring), and from him, comes the Shepherd, the Rock (Stone) of Israel, signifying our Messiah, Jesus.

After Ephraim and Manasseh, those he begets will be named after Joseph's brothers, meaning the prophecies given to all of Joseph's brothers become Joseph's through birth, i.e., realization, symbolized as the fruit of realization, or fruition.

A closer examination of Joseph's prophecy in Genesis 49 reveals that "the blessings of your father" refer to the blessings of Solomon's (Judah's) father, which means the blessings that "Israel," his brother, possesses.

The blessings of Joseph, and those who conceive him (the Shulamite woman), as interpreted in Genesis 49, are surpassed by the blessings of Joseph described in Deuteronomy 33, where the blessings of Israel, your father, are so great (H1396=strong, mighty, have excelled) that they reach the utmost bound, the extreme, the highest limit of the everlasting hills, namely Mount Hermon.

It also describes how the blessings rest upon the head of Joseph, who is distinguished from his brothers, indicating that the blessings of Deuteronomy 33, which come through the assistance of the Almighty God, are directly bestowed upon Solomon (Judah).

What, then, are the blessings of Joseph as described in Deuteronomy 33?

In the case of Joseph, his land (H776) is blessed (H1288) by God with the precious things (H4022=treasures, very valuable things, treasures of heaven, the best fruit) of the dew (H2919) and the deep lying below (H8478=lower place, below, beneath),

the precious fruit (H8393=fruit, produce) brought forth by the sun and the precious produce (H1645=output, yield, fruit) of the months,

the best gifts of the ancient mountains (H6924=front, ancient) and the bounty (H7218=head, beginning, highest place) of the everlasting (H5769=eternal) hills,

and the fullness (H4393=fulness, abundance, multitude, plenty) and bounty (H4022) of the land by the goodwill (H7522=pleasure, favor, grace) of Him who dwelt in the thornbush,

letting the blessings come upon the head (H7218) of Joseph, on the crown of the one set apart from his brothers.

The wealth from the sea achieved through hard work, lying low (H7257) and laboring, signifies rewards obtained as Issachar is described, implying wealth gained through effort.

Thus, Joseph inherits a double portion of blessings: the blessings of Jesus as presented in the Gospel of Matthew and extended through the Gospel of John.

Psalm 133:2 "It is like the precious oil on the head (H7218=head, beginning, highest place), running down on the beard, running down on Aaron's beard, down on the collar of his robes."

Psalm 133:3 "It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion. For there the Lord bestows his blessing, even life forevermore."

These texts illustrate the profound and layered nature of the blessings bestowed upon Joseph, symbolizing a rich inheritance of divine favor and prosperity, which is ultimately linked to the Messiah and extends to the blessings of peace and eternal life bestowed upon Zion and Jerusalem.

The blessings received from the highest place in heaven, as depicted in the Gospel of Matthew with the arrival of Jesus, begin from the highest places with "Hosanna" and are described as the anointing oil of Aaron flowing down from Mount Hermon upon his head, which then connects to the dew extending to Mount Zion, symbolizing the blessings that culminate in eternal life.

The oil poured upon his head, linking to the mountains of Zion, represents the dew flowing from the highest place, granting the blessing of eternal life.

This is portrayed using the same Strong's code for the crown (head) of Joseph, indicating that Joseph serves in the role of Aaron, the High Priest. Thus, Solomon, with the fruit of Joseph, assumes the roles of both king and High Priest.

The path of peace that righteous Solomon realizes is not one of solitary prosperity but involves finding the testimony of the anointed one to eliminate the predestined wars and wounds between one another. It's a path where everyone gains salvation and eternal life.

Psalm 133:1 (A song of ascents. Of David.) "Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!"

These revelations unfold in reality through a man, King Solomon, who, with the fruit born of the Shulamite woman (son, offspring, fruition, realization), demonstrates the anointing bestowed upon him through the prophecy of Joseph among his fruits. He unfolds the work of salvation as a king of peace and a priest of righteousness, deciphering these metaphors and symbols for all, based on the many wars foretold in the Bible. It's about the truth of God, the word of God in its entirety.

The one who comes in the name of God will thus reveal his testimonies one by one, imparting truth and bestowing the blessings of salvation and peace to the people.

Ultimately, through the fruit born of the Shulamite woman, Solomon inherits Joseph's portion, and like Jacob's words that Joseph's portion would include that of his brothers, Solomon comes to possess many fruits.

2024.04.10 14:50 Quackmotard Days Until The Draft Player Profile Series: Gary Cuozzo

15 is kind of a wasteland - not many interesting players (or many players at all) ever wore it. Maybe in 10 years it can remind us of the 2 passtronaut games we all had a little hope.
From Wikipedia:
An undrafted quarterback from the University of Virginia, Cuozzo played in 10 NFL seasons from 1963 to 1972. He began his NFL career on the Baltimore Colts as a backup to Johnny Unitas. When Unitas was injured in 1965, Cuozzo replaced him and in his first start set a new NFL record for most touchdown passes in one game. After he was sidelined by injury as well coach Don Shula resorted to using running back Tom Matte as quarterback.
On March 6, 1967, the Colts traded Cuozzo to the expansion New Orleans Saints, as part of a deal that also sent offensive lineman Butch Allison to the Saints in exchange for a 1967 first round draft pick (#1-Bubba Smith), a 1967 third round pick (#54-Norman Davis), a 1969 seventh round pick (#163-Gary Fleming) and center Bill Curry. He became the first starting quarterback in the franchise's history. However, the trade was disastrous for New Orleans, which gave away the first overall pick in the 1967 NFL draft to the Colts, who used it to select Michigan State All-American Bubba Smith, who became an All-Pro and was Baltimore's starting left defensive end in Super Bowl III and V.
After losing the Saints' starting job later in 1967 to Billy Kilmer, Cuozzo was traded to the Minnesota Vikings in January 1968. He became the Vikings' starting quarterback in 1970 when Joe Kapp, the team's Most Valuable Player in 1969, held out and was traded to the Boston Patriots. Cuozzo was named NFC Player of the Week for leading the Vikings to a 27–10 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in a rematch of Super Bowl IV in the season opener.
The 1970 Vikings posted the NFL's best regular season record at 12–2, but lost in an NFC Divisional playoff game to the San Francisco 49ers at home. In 1971, Cuozzo could not hold on to his starting job, sharing duties with Norm Snead and Bob Lee. The Vikings went 11–3 in the regular season and lost in the divisional playoffs at home to the eventual Super Bowl champion Dallas Cowboys. Prior to the 1972 season, the Vikings reacquired Fran Tarkenton from the New York Giants, with Snead and the Vikings' leading receiver from 1971, Bob Grim, going to the Big Apple. Tarkenton played his first six seasons (1961–66) in Minnesota, coinciding with the Vikings' first six seasons in the NFL. Cuozzo was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals in the deal which sent fleet wide receiver John Gilliam to the Vikings.[4] Cardinals coach Bob Hollway was familiar with Cuozzo, having served as Minnesota's defensive coordinator under Bud Grant prior to leaving for St. Louis in 1971. Cuozzo was part of a chaotic four-quarterback rotation with Jim Hart, Pete Beathard, and Tim Van Galder in 1972, but when Don Coryell took over as Cardinals coach in 1973, he named Hart the undisputed starter, and he would hold the job into the 1980s.
Following his retirement in 1973, Cuozzo moved to Middletown Township, New Jersey, to start an orthodontics practice.
In 1990, his oldest son Gary Jr., a/k/a Chip, was murdered in Miami during a drug deal, and Cuozzo gave talks to teens about avoiding drugs. He served as national chairman of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes from 1995 to 1998.
