2024.05.19 12:38 Junior-Elephant-9395 Jelly pro/ atom in 2024

Hey guys- been on a hunt for dumb phone/ phones to get my screen time down. Got a nokia flip 2720, didnt really work out for me- bit too klunky and doesn’t run on android. Came across unihertz’s products, and i wanted to try a second hand one for myself, and commit to a real one if im happy with the experience. On the secondhand marketplace where i live in HK, someone is selling a jelly pro with 1 extra battery and atom for cheap. I know these are older models, and im aware of battery life issues.
I would aim to have this phone last me around 1-2 years, ill use it for listening to music for a couple hours maximum, WhatsApp, Google maps, occasional calls. Ill have another normal smartphone at home but ill only use it in the evening for more tedious stuff.
Based on this info, which second hand phone would you guys recommend i go for? Jelly pro/atom? Does anyone still have one of those phones these days and how is it holding up?
I wont buy a brand new one because laws aren’t t super consumer friendly, you cant return a phone if you’re not satisfied with it unless theres a defect. I cant really do a trial period and return it
Anyway cheers! Super stoked to have a tiny phone and thanks in advance to anyone who answers!

2024.05.19 12:33 afilthyredditor Xperia 1 VI Initial Impressions

I had the chance to try out the 1 VI yesterday. I am in the market for a new phone and was looking at the S24 Ultra and Pixel 8 Pro. Of the two, I liked the Pixel 8 Pro: despite some reviews saying it's video taking capabilities were good but not as good as its competitors, it's size and stock android experience were more preferable than the S24 Ultra. Anyway, this is about the 1 VI.
Build Quality It's a crossover from 1 V, though the 1 V is closer to the 1 IV when held in hand. The main factor is the screen. It feels light but grippy thanks to its case design.
Screen Gotta be honest here. If I had more time with it, I probably could make out more differences with my 1 IV or the demo 1 V. The shop might not be the best place with its interior lighting. But I honestly thought the 1 VI had the better screen, didn't really notice any pixelation effect. One thing I did not like with the 1 IV was its screen was too dim. I often had to do scrutinize my photos and videos for insufficient lighting and exposure because of the screen dimness. I really appreciate the increase in brightness. Despite that, there doesn't seem to be any noticeable deficiency of viewing experience from a 4k to a 1080p resolution. The 1 VI sharpness and vividness were somewhat better, might be due to the increase in brightness. With regards to playback of 4k recorded videos, I did not notice any deficiency as well. I saw some claims of 4k video playback taking a hit with the new display but the experience was not too dissimilar from the 1 IV and 1 V. So to test this, I streamed some 4k videos from youtube and recorded some 4k videos as well. My fears weren't really confirmed. But I have to say one thing I really doubted from the many reviewers commenting that the downgrade was nothing to worry about, I wouldn't say I was blown away by the quality. Perhaps the 1 IV has spoiled me to the point of not really being blown away by any other phone display, the S24 Ultra's and Pixel's screens included.
Performance I didn't really notice any throttling while using it. Most of the time I was snapping pics and recording videos. My biggest concern with the 1 IV was the overheating. The 1 VI didn't seem to overheat. It was quite snappy.
Cameras Gotta be honest here as well. In terms of quality, I couldn't really notice any glaring improvements. Seemed like more of the same with the 1 IV, with some additional toys to play with. Granted, I'm not the type to scrutinize photos like I'm playing "spot the difference" games. So my expectations of taking good photos are still met. My experience with the new app though was not that good, though I could say the same thing when learning the Xperia's camera suite. With the amount of manual configurations, the old camera suite encouraged fiddling and experimentation. But since there were 3, each had a purpose different from each other. Imagine collapsing all of those things into one app. My initial impressions are mixed. While I do appreciate one app, the execution could have been done better. With the S24U and P8P pro modes, they were able to present a clean and uncluttered interface by presenting users with the basic functions and tucking away the pro features in advanced menus. With the camera app, it was like using the Office Ribbon/toolbar. You could easily fill up the screen with sub-menus with a few clicks. I saw a post here comparing the interface with pixel's camera app, they weren't really mistaken. While the old camera suite was overwhelming at first, I grew to appreciate, embrace and enjoy them over time. I hope the experience would be the same with this unified app.
The thing that stopped me from buying the 1 VI over the P8P was the fingerprint scanner. Mine is currently broken due to the recent update. I can only reuse the fingerprint scanner after powering off the phone for 10 minutes with the case off to let it cool down. Even with this, it's not guaranteed to work all the time. And it's quite annoying to do. This really interferes with utilizing the phone, especially doing banking. But I ended up pulling the trigger on the 1 VI since it seemed like I was still getting an upgrade despite many people's misgivings on the downgraded screen and the price. To me, I understand both camps. The display is a major part of phones. It superseded tactile keyboards as our way of interaction. A 4k display is a premium feature. Getting something less as part of an integral feature affects the perception of the phone's "premiumness", it's quality. While Sony did make major changes and improvements in other areas, it rightly attracted negative feedback due to the resolution change. But then, that's the thing. The 1 VI isn't only just a display, it's also many things as well. It's a battery that's able to power a good display, multiple cameras and the best chip on the current market. It's an SD card slot that can store your pictures, videos and files. It's a headphone jack which allows you to use headsets and IEMs. It's many things constituting to one device. While the price is quite high, it's not absurdly high from my perspective.
Final note: one thing I really don't like with my 1 IV is the read and write speeds to the SD card. You can slap on the best in class SD card inside but it's throttled. I learned this the hard way. Hopefully, but I'm not counting on it, they improved upon this and increase or just leave this be. Just let the read/write speeds be as quick as they're supposed to be. I understand the decision a bit since transferring files to the SD card warms up the phone. I don't know if it's a Xperia design issue or a limitation on phones themselves but really looking forward in improvements here.

2024.05.19 12:28 sharkxx_ Here is how i fixed battery draining on POCO X6 PRO.

Here is how i fixed battery draining on POCO X6 PRO.
Hello everyone!
I am glad to tell you that after one month and a half of trying to fix this issue, i finally found the solution and here's how i proceeded. (Please read carefully, every step is important.)
1) Apps running in the background. Go to security app > data usage and see which app uses data in background. Then go to settings > apps > locate the apps that run in the background and put them in "restricted" mode.
2) App notifications. Go to settings> Notifications and Status bar > app notifications> disable all the apps you don't need. When enabled, they drain a lot of battery.
3) Screen refresh rate. Somehow, the "adaptative" refresh rate on the poco X6 pro realy sucks. I did another post that explains how to solve it.
4) Debloating. DEBLOAT YOUR PHONE !! I can't understand why people are "scared" to debloat their phones !! I used universal android debloater and referred to the github page.
5) System Daemon and MSA. I did the mistake of letting Daemon running in the background. After debloating my phone (removed everything, except daemon because people said it helps with the battery, absolute lie !!!), i got pretty decent SOT when i am connected to WIFI. When i use 4G/5G, battery just drained in less than 2hours. After seeing in the settings that System daemon only had acces to Mobile Data, i understood why my battery life sucked on 4G. Got back to universal android debloater and removed System daemon and got very good battery life.
6) Manual synchronization. Go to settings and search for "synchronization" and disable automatic syncing. You'll have to do it manually every day or week or month, thats your decision, but it's worth it, as it improves the battery life a lot.
7) Charging. Remove case while charging and after charging, let it cool down for 10-15min before using it. Heat drains a lot of battery.
That's it ! I hope i helped some of you to improve battery life on poco x6 pro ;)
Ps : here is my average SOT now (see picture)

I recently tried out the FLTP Microphone for my car's stereo system, and I have to say, it's been a game-changer. The sleek black design blends seamlessly with my vehicle's interior, while its advanced technology ensures top-notch voice clarity during phone calls.
One thing that truly stands out is its adaptability - this microphone works perfectly with most Pioneer car radios equipped with a 2.5mm input. Its rapid and accurate data transmission guarantees a clear, stable connection even when driving in noisy environments, making hands-free calling a breeze.
The included dash mount and visor clip make it incredibly easy to install this bad boy wherever you like, adding a touch of convenience to your daily drive. Oh, and did I mention the wire length? 3 meters (or 9 feet) gives me plenty of room to maneuver without feeling restricted.
On the downside, some users might find the installation process a bit tricky, especially if they're not familiar with car stereo systems. Additionally, while it pairs seamlessly with my Pioneer radio, compatibility with other brands may vary.
Overall, the FLTP Microphone has been a worthy addition to my car's audio setup. Its sharp design, noise-cancelling capabilities, and user-friendly features make it worth considering for anyone looking to upgrade their hands-free calling experience.

I recently got my hands on the Singing Machine Carpool Karaoke Mic 2.0 in black and gold, a stylish addition to my karaoke setup. You know what they say, good things come in small packages, and this machine definitely fits that bill. It comes with a sleek microphone, perfect for belting out those tunes during karaoke nights with friends.
One of the standout features for me was its ability to stream music via Bluetooth, which meant I could effortlessly connect it to my phone and play all my favorite songs. Another highlight was the option to connect it to my TV screen through the included RCA cables, making following the karaoke lyrics a breeze.
However, there was a minor hiccup. The package didn't include a charging cable or an auxiliary cord. Also, the customer service I encountered at Target wasn't the most helpful, making my experience a bit underwhelming. But hey, nobody's perfect!
Overall, the Singing Machine Carpool Karaoke Mic 2.0 is a fun gadget that definitely makes karaoke nights more lively. It's compact, stylish, and easy to use, but just remember to keep those essential cords handy!

🔗Carpool Karaoke Wireless Bluetooth Mic for In-Car Singing

I had the pleasure of trying out "Carpool Karaoke: The Mic Singing Machine" during a road trip with friends. I'm a karaoke enthusiast, so I was excited to see how this device would transform our car ride. The setup was slightly tricky, but once everything was connected, we were ready to rock!
The highlight of this product is its ability to bring the fun of carpool karaoke right into your vehicle. With Bluetooth connectivity and an AUX option, you can sing along to your favorite tunes using your phone's music library or streaming apps. Even though it's primarily designed for car use, I found it enjoyable at home with a Bluetooth speaker too!
However, there were some downsides. The build quality seemed a bit flimsy, and I noticed a significant lag when using the Bluetooth function. Additionally, some users experienced compatibility issues with specific car models.
In summary, "Carpool Karaoke: The Mic Singing Machine" provides a unique and entertaining experience for those who love to sing on the go. While not perfect, its charming concept and ease of use make it a worthy addition to your collection of vehicle entertainment options.

🔗Uniden Bearcat Wireless CB Microphone for Clear and Secure Communication

I recently got my hands on Uniden's BC906W wireless CB microphone, and I must say, it's been an game-changer for my communication needs while out and about. This nifty device gives me the freedom and mobility to connect wirelessly with my Bearcat CB radio from up to 100 meters away.
One of my favorite features is the noise-cancellation technology which helps reduce background sound for clear, quality audio. No more struggling to decipher muffled or distorted voices - now each transmission comes through as crisp and clean as if you were standing right next to the speaker.
The microphone charges conveniently in a cradle that also functions as a sync point, so once you've paired it once, it'll automatically reconnect each time you place it back in the cradle. And let me tell you, this battery lasts a surprisingly long time! Even though I use it daily for extended periods during my job, I only need to charge it about once a week.
There are some minor drawbacks, though. For instance, there isn't any power-saving feature or built-in charging port in the microphone itself, making it reliant on the charging cradle. Additionally, if there's a sudden power interruption, the microphone will automatically unpair from the radio, causing a small inconvenience.
Overall, considering all its pros and cons, Uniden's BC906W wireless CB microphone has made communication away from my truck much easier and more efficient. Its range, noise cancellation, and ease of use make it worth the investment for anyone looking for similar capabilities.

🔗RoadKing 4-Pin Noise-Cancelling CB Microphone

https://preview.redd.it/he10gzeh1d1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6979ebc67553ae69772086c7d3284fbc6abcf4dc
Oh boy, I've been using this Roadking RK56B Black 4-Pin Dynamic Noise Canceling Microphone in my car, and I must say, it's been a game-changer! The moment I received it, I was impressed with the sleek black design. Not only is it super cool looking, but it's also incredibly easy to use. The push-to-talk feature is a particular highlight for me because it ensures that I only transmit when I need to.
One of the best things about this microphone, in fact, is its noise-cancellation feature. I've had it in my car during some noisy drives, and it's like I'm in a silent movie. The sound quality is top-notch, making it much easier for me to communicate clearly over the radio.
In addition to its superior performance, the Roadking RK56B is also built like a tank. It's made with high-grade materials, which not only ensures durability but also gives it a premium feel. And despite its robust construction, the microphone is surprisingly light, making it easy for me to install and adjust.
Perhaps one minor issue I had was with the wiring. It's not exactly a deal-breaker, but managing it can be a bit of a hassle, especially when I'm on the go. That said, this is a microphone that I would recommend to anyone in a heartbeat. Its unique combination of style, functionality, and quality makes it a must-have for any driver.

2024.05.19 12:06 itsallalittleblurry2 In Memory

Bud be gone 16 years later this month. Don’t hardly seem possible. Still remember him as if I just saw and spoke to him yesterday. The way of it. Miss him a lot, and so does Momma. Also the way of it. Get to thinking about him a lot this time each year.
Not as raw and brutal as it used to be. Had some dark days for both of us for quite a while. Again, the way of it. But acceptance comes eventually, when there’s no other choice.
I try to console myself that he lived life large in the 21 years he had - didn’t waste ‘em. Got to see and do places and things that comparatively few do. Was involved in things he felt were important.
I loved him dearly, and was admiring and proud of the man he’d become. And I told him so quite often. Advice from someone who’d not always as bright as he might be, but who nevertheless understands some basic things: say what Should be said when you have the chance. The words are important, even if they already know. Don’t, and the day might come when it’s now too late to.
He was the wild one of our brood - seems like every family has one. Not troublesome in any way for Momma and me. He asked me a serious question once, when he was 16: “Dad, you and Mom hardly ever whipped us when we were kids. How come?”
And my answer a simple one: “We didn’t need to. You were good kids.” He’d thought that over, and nodded his acceptance.
A disciplinary problem aboard his ship sometimes, though, and this didn’t surprise either of us. A different world with different rules. And he never accepted insult from anyone from the time he was small - just not in his nature. Push, and he’d push back.
But by every account we heard, very serious and disciplined when it came to his job. This didn’t surprise us, either. His primary rating Firefighter aboard ship, he’d often complain that the training wasn’t Realistic enough. To the extent that a superior had remarked once in exasperation: “Well, we can’t set the damn ship on fire for you, Bud!”
Well-known and liked throughout the crew, he was something of a minor legend among them. Famous (or infamous - take your pick) for the situations he got himself into to the point that after a while, anyone in trouble beyond the usual was referred to as having “Pulled a Bud.”
Fighting several members of Shore Patrol on one memorable occasion: “It took six of ‘em to get him under control and back to the ship, Mr. OP.” A friend.
With several members of the local PD on an even more memorable one, when he took offense at the treatment of a shipmate.
He’d paid for that one on the way to and at the station. Being thrown headlong down a set of cement stairs with his hands still cuffed behind his back he figured he’d had coming. Ditto with then being picked up and rammed headfirst into a cinder block wall.
Being stripped naked, tossed in a cell, and having a fire hose turned on him every hour on the hour all night he’d objected to: “That shit was Cold, Pop! And it was fucking unnecessary! I catch any of ‘em out alone, I got somethin’ for their ass!”
“You gotta stop this shit, Bud.”
“……Sigh…I know. Do me a favor - don’t tell Mom?”
“I don’t intend to.”
“……Pop?”
“Yeah?”
“Captain says the same thing. Says this is my last chance…….Why’s he giving me another chance, after all the trouble I’ve caused?”
“Because he sees something in you he wants to keep - something of value to the ship. You can be counted on to do your job, no matter what. That carries a lot of weight in the civilian world - more so in the military.”
“…..You think so?”
“I know so.”
One of the last conversations, and over the phone, we’d ever have.
An old Chief remarked to us: “Bud was a throwback. He reminded me of the fighting Sailors of my own youth. I hadn’t met another quite like him in a good many years. He’ll be missed.”
His Captain remarked to me: “He turned it around, Mr. OP. It was as if he made a decision. There wasn’t another single incident of insubordination or anything else. In all my years of service, I’ve never seen anyone do so complete a 180. He’d made his mind up, and that was that. But I guess I don’t have to tell you that. He was actually due for promotion. Did you know that?”
I had. Bud had told me he’d studied for and passed the test. Perfect score, or near enough. He’d broken his hand at the time. A timed test, and his writing hand, he’d been afraid the cast would slow him down too much, so he’d cut it off and gone to get it redone afterward.
Last time I spoke to him, he had some shipmates were in Galveston during Mardi Gras. Out on the promenade. Sounds of revelry in the background. Shakedown cruise in preparation for another deployment.
Presently, to his impatient shipmates: “Just give me a damn minute, all right?! Listen, I guess I better go. Love you, Pop. And tell Mom that for me when she gets home, ok?”
“I will. Love you, too, Bud.”
Good last words to remember, I guess.
All through the days and nights we’d spent in the hospital, waiting, and hoping against hope, Momma and I hadn’t been alone. My brothers were there with us, having driven in from out of state. My sister. Mother.
And his crew. Day and night, young men and women waiting with us in great numbers. Lying sleeping on the floor against the walls lining the corridors, when all other spaces had been taken. None of the hospital staff asking them to leave.
Ship’s Officers and senior Enlisted spending as much time there as presentations for deployment would permit. Checking in in person with us and hospital staff about his condition at least once a day.
And nearly all of them with a story or two to tell about Bud. Many of them funny. For that was who he was, too. He could always make people laugh. Someone being down in his presence he couldn’t abide, and he always knew how to fix that.
It was as if they Needed to. And that Momma and I understood, as well. We’d known him all his life, and we could see that they knew him, too. So we were patient, and we listened.
The day finally came when we were told there was no longer any hope at all. He’d never regained consciousness, and now there was no more brain activity at all. He was gone.
His XO was there with us when we were told, and that large, strong man wept bitterly and unashamedly. I think that probably doesn’t happen often.
Momma and I were alone the next day, in a seated waiting area next to the elevators. Waiting, just the two of us, not speaking much. Everyone had given us that space to ourselves. Sensed that we needed it, I suppose.
The first man arriving with a refrigerated transport case arrived, and took the elevator down. He seemed in a hurry. A man who desperately needed Bud’s strong heart was waiting, and time was of the essence.
Momma and I watched the doors close behind him. Then we both got up, and hand in hand, walked away. It was finished now. The book of his life was closed, though in a sense it never would be.
A few months previous, he’d registered as an organ donor. His choice.
His heart went to a 31-yr-old man in need of a new one.
A young woman in North Dakota sees through his eyes.
Many others were helped, as well. His parting gifts.
Talking to the coordinator of the donor program at the hospital at a later date, I was informed that the man’s new heart was functioning perfectly. He had, in fact, been going to the gym and hitting the weights. Something he’d had no interest in before.
“Lifting and bodybuilding were some of Bud’s passions” I replied.
“I’ve been doing this for a long time” the man had replied in kind. “And you’d be astonished at how many times something like that happens; the recipient unknowingly taking on attributes of the donor. No one can explain it.”

2024.05.19 11:46 TenshiKyoko Two new Krebs Gorlon comments you might have missed

In the comments of the recent 2024 mid-year catch-up.
comment 1:
"Sorry about the out of focus two shot. Both of them thought the other had checked the shot. Mike was drunk and Jay was HAF. They focused each others' shots IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN. And that is NOT Mike in Lousy Carter. The movie Mike is in is called Lousy Farter. He's also in a movie called "Mike thinks he looks less fat when the shot is out of focus". Jay is also in a movie called "Pig was my favorite movie of the last ten years cause I'm a fucking weirdo". So again, Mike and Jay do not have a crew or a budget or anything else worthwhile in life. They do fail upwards constantly. Or rather, fail sideways. Mike continues failing sideways if you know what I mean. Or he like's to call it "Horizontal Expansion". Mike has just purchased stock in a company that makes belts for overweight bovine. They are looking to expand (pun intended) into the human market by selling their leather belts to portly gentlemen. You may wonder why a cow would need a belt? Or why a cow would wear a leather belt in the first place. The answer: Don't ask you scum. It's none of your business. Mike is gonna have over $5,000 dollars in his bank account when this stock goes public rest assured you fucks. Then he's gonna retire and live the good life on a cattle ranch wearing belts made of his friends."
comment 2, in a reply to the 1st:
"For those of you (scum) who wish to know who has written this response. It is I, Krebs Gorlon long time RLM pubic relations manager and master of the art of dealing with the pubic. I share Mike's thoughts on these matters. I must admit, I made up the story about Mike investing in cow belts for people. Mike would never invest in such a foolhardy folly after his disaster with Enron. Mike is doing just fine at the moment. That story was what we call "deflection" in the PR biz. It's to get you thinking about Mike wearing a cow belt (a belt made for cows and not a belt made from a cow (although some are) to keep your eyes away from the latest story in the news about Jay. Jay went to Walt's Disney world and was denied entry on the teacup ride. You think the joke might be was that he was too short, but the truth is he was high on cracked-cocaine. Jay was yelling and wearing a tee shirt that read: "Party's Over Fucko". The staff at Walt's Disney world also noticed the track marks on Jay's arms and the fact he was sipping from a flask. That along with the teeshirt gave the staff pause and they made the call to not allow Jay on the ride. Jay threw a tantrum and leapt onto the ride while it was in motion, shattering his pelvis and causing delays in the line up to 3 hours. The incident was captured on cell phone video and can be found on YouTube by searching "Small man breaks pelvis on big teacup ride" however, I urge you not to search for this. Jay is in hospital at the moment and will return to work soon. Mike has told Jay that his "rock star" lifestyle is embarrassing. In an attempt to bring him down to reality Mike has informed Jay that RLM is only the 17,948th most subscribed to channel on YouTube and that he's not so famous he can show up at Walt's Disney World blazing on cracks and causing a pubic scene. This is NOT part of our brand. Stick to belts made for cows or the newest craze, Smart phone necklaces. You know what a lanyard is? You know how elderly people have their casino rewards cards around their neck. I think instead of people keeping their phones in their back or front pockets or even in their purses, all people should wear them around their neck for easy access. I call it a Cell Phone Krebs. I've named this product after myself. Search for it on YouTube by entering in "Small man breaks pelvis on big teacup ride"."

2024.05.19 11:40 Brilliant_Top_3832 Teacher - Need new path

Hello,
I guess you could say I’m not your typical liberal teacher. I hate everything teaching and education promotes today from being DEI, to being a victim - everyone’s a racist, misogynist etc., climate change is going to kill us.
I am a conservative and was a top athlete and top academic student growing up with the value of hardwork, dedication and perseverance. I’m also extremely outgoing and love being around people. I probably should have gone into sales when I was in my 20s. I build relationships with people relatively easily and make friends playing golf.
Teaching and the education is soul Sucking. As a teacher, I have no authority to discipline students, give them late marks or fail them because our education system panders to these students/parents that whine and complain. Classrooms are a disaster with behaviour and cell phone management. I literally realize every teacher is make ZERO impact on our society. Some think they are but they are not because the majority of students are so desensitized by technology and have never been disciplined by their parents that they are just mindless drones.
I can’t stand being a teacher especially after Covid. I seen I should have done something different but I’m 40 now. I don’t know what to do. I could stick it out with teaching until 55 and get a pension which my family thinks I should do. I also know there is not a lot of jobs out there that are going to pay me 100K per year with 3 months off and pension at the end.
I just hate how meaningless my job is and how even 100K can’t afford shit today plus the lack of respect for teachers. I know why our kids are fucked today because parents don’t love their kids. It’s plain and simple. They don’t want to be parents and discipline them. They want to be their friends. Parents have become so weak and lazy. Everyone blames the kids. It’s not the kids. It’s our society lacking any morality, no discipline at school or home. No wonder kids are anxious, depressed and offing themselves. Our adults are bunch of pussies.
Anyways, that’s the end of my rant. I don’t know what to do anymore.

2024.05.19 11:32 Any-Background1659 Was this from too much alcohol or did they put something in my drink? help

Hi guys. I am making this publication because I feel worried and I would like you to please read my case and respond to me based on your experience. I really need it... and I don't know if it's this the right forum...
I am a 25 year old man who attends parties and drinks alcohol occasionally and with self-control, my head may spin, but I am always aware and remember everything. On Saturday, May 11, I attended a party where I went alone and was drinking and socializing with different groups. I have no idea how much I drank all night, but it was several sips of a 6% vodka carbonated drink. I believe that from 11 p.m. until 4 a.m it will have been 1 liter in total, I think. I usually drink little by little, but when the party got exciting around 3:30 a.m It was when I started drinking the drink as if it were water (By then I had already joined another group). At 4:20 a.m They were already throwing us out of the place because they were already closing and I left with this group walking towards the whereabouts (which was 20 minutes from where we were). By then my condition was normal, I was not sleepy and much less drunk, I was super aware of what was happening around me. A few minutes later while I was walking... in the blink of an eye I wake up in a hospital with an serum IV, but only for a brief moment because then in another blink of an eye I remember that I am getting to my room with the help of my relatives and the first thing I do is turn on my PC, I could barely write and I tried to look for answers and what had happened, but my head hurt a lot like I had a hangover. (My jacket, my glasses, my cell phone, my card were stolen, and the password had been changed on one of my emails) After that I don't remember much, I think I went to sleep and got up the next day in the early morning more aware. That day I had not eaten anything all day.
In my emails he said he had done a transfer at 4:52 a.m. and another at 08:06 a.m. and I wonder: How? Because to enter mobile banking you need a pin number (I don't have my fingerprints registered in the app, only to unlock my cell phone) and then according to my Google route at 4:48 a.m. I was already at the whereabouts, where they found me lying on the ground 3 hours and later notified my relatives. Why can't I remember anything? Is it possible that I was drugged or did I just drink too much? This is the first time this has happened to me and I am worried about how I was able to be so accessible to give important information, because I have no signs of having been physically attacked and to this day I have a slight taste bitter in my mouth.
My mom shows me the photos of that day in the hospital where I look terrible, my eyes drooping, staring at nothing, and super serious. She said that sometimes she would shake (maybe from the cold) and she could barely get up. The only words I said to my mother were: How did you get there? How did you find me? She also says that I was the one who had given the number when the police had found me lying there. (He tells me all this days later)
It's been 1 week since then, I've cried a lot and I can't sleep because I can't understand how this happened to me, but I'm grateful to God for being alive and without any injuries.
Has something like this happened to you? Some answer? How does the body of a person with excess alcohol function? Do they really faint? In the sense that they faint fall to the ground? Or is there another type of internal fainting? I'm new to this and I would appreciate if you could answer me, please. Sorry for my English, I'm using a translator.
Thank you.

2024.05.19 11:24 untitled_SusHi [Beginner] I've been wondering if I should buy a midi keyboard when I have a digital piano (almost 10 years old)

[Beginner] I've been wondering if I should buy a midi keyboard when I have a digital piano (almost 10 years old)
I've been looking into reviews on midi keyboards but then I had this sudden thought. I own a digital since I was in high school and I'm wondering if I could use it with the Audient Interface ID14 MKII (I haven't bought any music production equipment yet so I've no clue).
My digital piano is the Roland RP401R. It has a USB Memory input, and this phone input and headphone jack. I've only ever used the headphone jack and the usb to change my phone (real slow) if it goes low battery lol
At the back there are two more input stuff. USB Computer and this one other input ive no idea does. Theres this one output thing I dont know what does that.
Or maybe I'm better of getting a midi keyboard? since I'm getting a condencer mic, or do you think I could still use this keyboard to record from just playing it with sound output as it is?
The midi keyboard I'm going for is the Arturia KeyLab essential 49 Mk3 white since I dont think i can handle anything with less keys :/ (unless do you think a mini Arturia would be better?)

2024.05.19 11:23 Accurate-Screen8774 A Decentralized Microfrontend Architecture

A Decentralized Microfrontend Architecture
Disclaimer: the following is a recent medium article. it is being posted in full on Reddit to compare feedback and engagement of Reddit users with long-form articles.
Decentralization can mean a lot of things because it can be open to interpretation. In this article, we would like to talk about what decentralization means to us and how we are approaching our definition of decentralized. We are working on a typical chat app, but our approach is unique and may push the boundaries of what it means for something to be self-hosted.
Our decentralized chat application is built as a Progressive Web Apps (PWA) and leverages modern web technologies to deliver a user experience comparable to native apps. Unlike traditional centralized chat apps, our chat app is designed to operate independently of central servers, ensuring that user data remains private and secure. This article will delve into the various components and architectural decisions that make our app truly decentralized.

The Decentralized Chat App

An overview of how our chat application leverages Progressive Web App (PWA) technology to provide a seamless user experience across different devices and platforms.
https://preview.redd.it/ntyghqt5oc1d1.png?width=1100&format=png&auto=webp&s=f273717c0c26ef5befcd303fc45de104af63f8d0

Data Storage and Networking

A typical app relies heavily on data storage and networking capabilities. In our decentralized chat application, we’ve implemented advanced solutions to handle these aspects efficiently and securely.

Data Storage

In our app, we use IndexedDB to store data directly in the browser’s storage. While browsers provide multiple options for storing information, ranging from cookies to local storage, IndexedDB offers a more advanced and robust solution.
Capacity: IndexedDB can store significantly larger amounts of data compared to cookies or local storage. Structure: It allows for complex data structures, including collections of files and blobs. Performance: IndexedDB operates asynchronously, meaning it won’t block the main thread of your application, leading to better performance for data-heavy applications.
Using IndexedDB, we ensure that user data is stored locally on their devices, providing both privacy and independence from central servers.

Networking

For networking, our app uses PeerJS-server as a connection broker to establish WebRTC connections between peers.
Direct Peer-to-Peer: WebRTC, provided by the browser, enables real-time communication between peers. This allows two users to connect directly and exchange data with minimal latency. Efficient Routing: Once a connection is established, data is sent via the shortest possible network route, enhancing speed and efficiency. Multiple Connections: Browsers can handle multiple WebRTC connections simultaneously, though the number of connections can vary depending on the device and network capabilities.
PeerJS-server helps in the initial connection setup by acting as a signaling server. It facilitates the exchange of connection information between peers, enabling them to establish a direct WebRTC connection.
By leveraging IndexedDB for data storage and WebRTC with PeerJS-server for networking, our chat application achieves a high level of decentralization, ensuring user data remains private and connections are efficient and reliable. These components form the backbone of our approach, pushing the boundaries of what it means for an app to be truly self-hosted and decentralized

Static Distribution and Deployment

Our app is essentially a bundle of static files, which makes it highly portable and easy to distribute. We leverage AWS services such as S3 and CloudFormation to deploy our app, ensuring it is distributed efficiently over a Content Delivery Network (CDN) across AWS servers.

AWS S3 and CloudFormation

AWS S3: We host our app on AWS S3, a scalable storage service that allows us to serve static files reliably. S3 ensures that our app is always available and can handle large numbers of requests without performance degradation. CloudFormation: By using AWS CloudFormation, we automate the deployment process, managing our infrastructure as code. This makes it easy to replicate and manage our app’s deployment environment.
Hosting on S3 and using CloudFormation means our app benefits from AWS’s global CDN. This ensures that our static files are cached and served from servers closest to our users, reducing latency and improving load times.

Offline Availability and Self-Hosting

We go a step further by providing users with the option to download a zip file of the app directly from within the app. This ensures that users can run the app locally without relying on our servers.
Direct from Index.html: Unlike some other apps, our app is a pure JavaScript implementation, designed to run directly from the index.html file. Users can simply open this file in their browser and start using the app without needing a server. Docker Option: For users who prefer or require a server setup, we offer a Docker configuration. This allows the app to be run in a containerized environment, providing flexibility and ease of deployment for different use cases.

Unminified Code for Transparency

We believe in transparency and accessibility. Therefore, we run the app as unminified code. This has several advantages:
Ease of Download: Users can download the entire app using simple browser commands like Ctrl/Cmd+S. Transparency: By providing unminified code, we ensure that users can inspect and understand the code they are running. This fosters trust and allows for easier customization and debugging.
By distributing our app as static files and offering multiple ways to run it, we ensure that users have maximum flexibility and control. Whether using AWS’s robust infrastructure or running the app locally, our approach embodies the principles of decentralization and user empowerment.

Webpack 5 Module Federation

Our app leverages Webpack 5’s Module Federation feature to implement a microfrontend architecture. This approach allows us to modularize our application, making it easier to maintain, develop, and scale. You can explore our open-source implementation here: https://github.com/positive-intentions/frontend-base.

Current Implementation

We have used Webpack 5 Module Federation to build the chat application, which you can find here: https://github.com/positive-intentions/chat. Additionally, we have created a federated module for cryptography that can be imported at runtime, available here: https://github.com/positive-intentions/cryptography. Our current setup is straightforward, allowing us to dynamically load different parts of the application as needed. This modular approach provides flexibility and efficiency in how we develop and deploy our app.

Future Enhancements

We plan to further decompose the application into separate microfrontends, each responsible for a specific aspect of the app. This will not only simplify maintenance but also enhance documentation and development processes for individual components.
Planned Modules:
1. UI Components: A collection of reusable UI components that can be shared across different parts of the application, promoting consistency and reducing duplication. 2. P2P Framework: The core framework for peer-to-peer networking, facilitating real-time communication between users. 3. State Management: This module will manage the application’s state, ensuring efficient data handling and synchronization across different components and peers. 4. Permission Manager: A dedicated module for managing user permissions and access control, enhancing security and user management.
https://preview.redd.it/w16teobjoc1d1.png?width=1100&format=png&auto=webp&s=9305db7dc16981aaf8499bfa2a7aade3c44a06d2

Individual Storybooks and Module Exports

Each module will have its own Storybook and module export, providing a dedicated space for documentation, testing, and showcasing individual components. This approach will:
Enhance Documentation: Each module will be well-documented, making it easier for developers to understand and use them. Simplify Maintenance: By isolating modules, we can update and maintain them independently, reducing the risk of breaking changes affecting the entire app. Promote Reusability: Well-defined modules can be reused across different projects, promoting a modular and efficient development approach.
By embracing Webpack 5 Module Federation and breaking down our app into distinct microfrontends, we aim to create a more robust, scalable, and maintainable architecture. This approach not only benefits our development process but also enhances the overall user experience by ensuring that each component is well-crafted and easily accessible.

Redundancy and Reliability

In the past, we have encountered difficulties when deploying our app to AWS due to various technical issues. Given that our app functions as a self-hosted static application, we have started exploring alternative hosting options, such as GitHub Pages. You can view our deployment on GitHub Pages here: https://positive-intentions.github.io/chat.

GitHub Pages Deployment

Our microfrontend architecture allows us to deploy each module independently. This capability has enabled us to host copies of the app on GitHub Pages for each repository. While this approach is unconventional and can lead to redundant copies of the app, we believe it is a valuable exercise in exploring module federation redundancy.
Accessibility: Hosting on GitHub Pages makes the app easily accessible to users and developers. Simplicity: GitHub Pages offers a straightforward deployment process, reducing the complexity often associated with other hosting solutions. Cost-Effective: GitHub Pages is free, making it an economical choice for hosting static sites.

Redundancy and Interoperability

We aim to make our app interoperable across different hosting sources. By leveraging Webpack 5 Module Federation, we can ensure that the app works seamlessly whether it is served from AWS or GitHub Pages. This redundancy enhances the app’s reliability and availability.
Module Federation Redundancy: We are investigating ways to make modules interoperable between different sources, ensuring that the app remains functional even if one source becomes unavailable. Interoperable Deployment: Our goal is to allow the app to fetch and integrate modules from both AWS and GitHub Pages dynamically.
https://preview.redd.it/m1nbx4nloc1d1.png?width=1100&format=png&auto=webp&s=b7e708e530bece6bcbd492b2699755065b783eb0

Future Plans

To further enhance our deployment strategy, we plan to use a infrastructure as code tool, to deploy the app across multiple cloud service providers. This approach will increase the resilience of our deployment, ensuring the app remains online and functional even if one provider experiences downtime.
Multi-Cloud Deployment: We can deploy the app to various cloud service providers, including AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud. This will distribute the app’s load and reduce the risk of a single point of failure. Scalability: This will enable us to scale the app easily across different providers, ensuring it can handle increased traffic without performance issues. Cost Management: Static file hosting is relatively a cheap option for hosting a webapp, we can optimize costs and ensure that the app remains affordable to maintain.
By exploring these new hosting options and implementing a robust deployment strategy, we aim to make our decentralized chat app more resilient, scalable, and cost-effective. Our efforts in redundancy and interoperability will ensure that the app continues to function seamlessly, providing a reliable user experience regardless of the hosting source.

Multi-Device Architecture

As our app continues to develop, we are excited to introduce the concept of a decentralized profile that can be shared across multiple devices. This feature is designed for individuals who want to use the same profile on all their devices, providing a seamless and integrated multi-platform chat experience, much like any modern chat application.

Decentralized Profile

A decentralized profile allows users to maintain a consistent identity and settings across different devices. This means that whether you are using a smartphone, tablet, or desktop, your profile can remain synchronized and up-to-date.
Profile Synchronization: Users can access their chat history, contacts, and settings on any device by synchronizing their decentralized profile. Data Consistency: Changes made on one device are automatically reflected on others, ensuring a consistent experience.

Multi-Platform Chat Experience

Implementing a decentralized profile enables us to offer a robust multi-platform chat experience. Users can switch between devices without losing their chat continuity or settings, enhancing the overall user experience.
Convenience: Users can start a conversation on one device and continue it on another without any interruptions. Flexibility: The app adapts to various devices, providing a user-friendly interface and experience on each platform.
https://preview.redd.it/8e2i3rrooc1d1.png?width=1100&format=png&auto=webp&s=a034fe514dbd6aa889de2da16caea828f7833e38

Decentralized File Storage

In addition to profile synchronization, we are exploring the potential of decentralized file storage. This feature would allow users to move large files between devices quickly, easily and securely.
Cross-Device Sharing: Users can share files between their devices effortlessly, whether they are transferring a document from their laptop to their phone or vice versa. Collaborative Work: Teams can collaborate more effectively by sharing encrypted files directly through the app, regardless of the devices they are using.
By introducing a decentralized profile and exploring decentralized file storage, we aim to enhance our app’s functionality and user experience. These features will provide users with the convenience and flexibility expected from a modern chat application while maintaining the principles of decentralization and security.

Decentralized Peer Discovery

Decentralized peer discovery is a critical component of our app’s architecture. By leveraging innovative technologies such as QR codes, NFC, and BLE, we facilitate seamless connections between peers without relying on a central authority.

QR Codes

QR codes provide a straightforward method for establishing peer connections. Users can generate a QR code that contains their connection details, which other users can scan to initiate a peer-to-peer connection.
https://preview.redd.it/20jk09qqoc1d1.png?width=793&format=png&auto=webp&s=11d72cbae68ac953f955d4cb87ce4e41cf877341
Ease of Use: Users can quickly and easily share connection details. Security: QR codes can be generated dynamically, reducing the risk of interception.

NFC (Near Field Communication)

NFC allows devices to establish connections simply by being in close proximity. This technology is particularly useful for quick and secure peer discovery.
Speed: Connections are established almost instantly. Convenience: Users can connect devices by simply bringing them close together, making it ideal for spontaneous interactions.

BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy)

BLE enables devices to discover and communicate with each other over short distances with minimal power consumption. This makes it a suitable option for maintaining constant peer-to-peer connections.
Energy Efficiency: BLE conserves battery life, making it ideal for mobile devices. Range: BLE provides a reliable connection over a short range, perfect for personal or localized networking.

Combining Technologies for Enhanced Discovery

By integrating QR codes, NFC, and BLE, we create a robust and versatile peer discovery mechanism. Users can choose the most convenient method for their situation, ensuring that connections are both seamless and secure.
Hybrid Approach: Users can combine different methods for an optimal connection experience. For instance, initial discovery via QR code followed by connection via BLE for sustained communication. Adaptability: The app adapts to the available technologies on the user’s device, providing the best possible peer discovery experience.
These innovative approaches to peer discovery, coupled with our decentralized microfrontend architecture, form the backbone of our commitment to enhancing decentralization, scalability, and user experience. By continually exploring and implementing cutting-edge technologies, we ensure our app remains at the forefront of decentralized communication solutions
These sections outline the key aspects of our decentralized microfrontend architecture and provide a roadmap for our ongoing and future efforts to enhance decentralization, scalability, and user experience.

2024.05.19 11:02 Cort-ovhm-c4 Pixel 8 pro vs Nothing 2 vs OnePlus 12

I'm in desperate need of an upgrade from my 2 year old oppo a53s. I need a phone with good battery life and a decent camera. At the moment (in Australia) the NP is $999 for 256gb, the OP is $1500 and the Pixel is around $1700. Is it worth it for spending 70% more for a better camera on the pixel? I've watched as many companions as I can between the pixel and the NP, OP has only recently came to my attention. For the most part I don't need any specific features, but a balance between speed camera and price.
Thanks

2024.05.19 11:01 AutoModerator Weekly iOS Battery Support Megathread

General advice for those concerned about their battery from the Support FAQ Wiki:
Battery health
Battery health depends on usage and a variety of other factors. It is normal to see a decrease in battery health by 7-10% per year, resulting in a battery health of 80-85% after 2 years. This number can fluctuate, remain the same, or decrease quickly over a small period and should not cause undue concern.

  2. If you have a new or recently updated/restored device, wait a number of days for background process to complete. If you continue to have issues, wait for a further iOS update. If you are on iOS Beta, you can expect to have a decreased battery life.
  3. Review the advice below on maximising battery life
  4. Consider restoring your device.

2024.05.19 10:55 FoxTrotte Long time Nothing phone users, I need your feedback on longetivity!

Hi everyone!
Whith the Nothing phone 3 announcement probably coming up sooner rather than later, I wanted to have a health check.
I know I would really like a Nothing phone, so I'm waiting for the 3's announcement. But I need to know how these nothing phones hold up in the long run.
Could the community give their experience on this post with their Nothing Phone, 1 or 2, that they have had for at least a year now? How is the battery holding up? Noticing any annoying bugs cropping up? Is the hardware holding up? I want to know everything!
Thanks a lot for your feedback!
