2024.05.17 12:13 mydoghasticks What is your take on Clean ABAP?

As part of our journey to S/4, we are going to be re-looking at some standards, specifically coding standards.
Having worked at a large number of clients in my career, I can honestly say that I have never come across such nasty coding standards as what we currently have.
Sure, you have the usual suspects, like the prefixing of variable names with Hungarian notation (i.e. where you encode the kind and type of a variable into its name, so you end up with prefixes like LV_, LT_, IV_, RS_, RT_ etc.).
Then we have these enforced comments, where you have a strict format for keeping track of the entire change history of a source file, where all changes are annotated and preserved (never deleted!) and, honestly, after 10 versions it becomes impossible to see the code for the comments. I questioned this when I started but was met with a dogged resistance because "that's the standard" (not documented anywhere, mind you!).
I like several of the aspects of Clean ABAP, particularly doing away with Hungarian notation and replacing these with sensible variable names. I have not heard any convincing arguments for keeping them. Also with regards to comments, I see a great validity in making code self-documenting as much as possible so that it is easy to understand from method and variable names.
What is your experience, if any, with updating standards, especially with moving to ADT as the ABAP development environment? And what, if any, is your experience with Clean ABAP?

2024.05.05 15:35 Playabender It’s a “software computer” with no knowledge of hardware - brilliant response from a legendary system programmer

Recently, an old friend and absolute pillar of Pick, having been half the team that sequestered and ported early Pick to The Honeywell Level 6. He still works in the space, mainly on non true-cross Pick-like machines. He posed this question to me, and the response was important enough to post for posterity.
Is there anything on the InterWebs that describes the architecture of D3 "software implementations"?
I relayed that question (way above my pay grade) to another old friend and pillar of Pick. Out of respect for his privacy, I will refer to him as Harry Emerson. Those who know him will recognize the writing, which came in the form of this luscious response:
D3 is a “software” machine (not firmware).
It goes back to Dennis’s PC machine.
The source instruction sets are the same, so that same code mapping.
The frame structure is the same, so the same there (but 1 k pages, which is one token in the PSYM, so trivial).
The first software machine (“macro expansion”) is TRW’s 360.
There follow, using the same model, the Z8000, the 68k, the Series 1, the 4300, the natSemi 32032, the Sun Spark, and, well, anything else with a wallet. (Never asked what was in Tim’s Sequoia.)
By now all of these have changed to mapping the instruction set to c, then compiling the c to host. With possible differences with the c expansion, depending on host. That’s just a tweak in the OSYM, then reexpand.
The other change is this: The original 360 had the process workspaces running in real memory. Dick used the paged file system model for workspaces. The RealityX eventually went back to real memory for workspaces; the others could have, too.
The difference is trivial, after the necessary whacka-whacka (term-of-art) in the OSYM and PSYM. Then you just malloc or GET-MAIN the memory you need.
The registers and SRs go back to 4 (or what’s available) byte real addresses. Or you can keep the FIDs as in index into a table of strings, and keep the DISP as 4 bytes of offset. which means that the SR goes from 6 to 8 bytes, the image of the register. Allows big memories with 2/4 gb strings.
The key to Dick’s version was splitting the real address into pageNumbed, displacement, so 6 rather than 4 byte SRs.
Simple, really. It’s a “software computer” with no knowledge of hardware.
(The alternative is keep the same object code. The 4300 is 360, and Ultimate seems to have kept the Microdata 1.0 object code, and pretended everything was a “firmware” machine. Madness.
This is in the heap, many times, in various forms.

2024.05.02 09:52 Temporary-Spite-6001 [Full analysis] The whole truth about UNESCO "recognizing" Ho Chi Minh as a "danh nhân văn hóa thế giới"("world cultural celebrity") - English version.

[Full analysis] The whole truth about UNESCO
This post's original is from here.
Main idea of the analysis:
  • There is no evidence that UNESCO officially recognized Ho Chi Minh as a "world cultural celebrity".
  • The Communist Party of Vietnam invented that title from a self-written pleading letter sent to UNESCO. I begged to organize a celebration of the 100th birthday of Ho Chi Minh in 1990 to help Vietnam, but then in 1990, UNESCO and its member countries did not comply with this request. UNESCO also copied the entire letter that Vietnam sent and presented it to the council for consideration, without writing down the words honoring HCM. The entire process was performed by the Vietnamese side themselves.
  • The Communist Party of Vietnam also made up the word "world" to add it to make it "cool", but UNESCO has never recognized any individual as a "world cultural celebrity", but only recognized world cultural heritages. .
  • Just like the Viet A case, the Covid-19 rescue flight, the Communist Party of Vietnam took advantage of the low intelligence of the Vietnamese people, who are not familiar with logic, clarity and emotional living, to freely fabricate cutting words together, exaggerating events to distort them for one's own purposes.
  • These self-edited words only appear within Vietnam and cannot be found internationally or in documents in the UNESCO library. Because the Vietnamese Communist Party's evidence has no logical value and cannot be used in any international discourse, it can only be used domestically to deceive ignorant people.
Like, my dad speaks 29 languages because:
  • My father is Vietnamese (1 language)
  • My father once met a Cambodian person, so he probably knows Cambodian (2 languages).
  • My father has a Lao boss, so he probably knows Lao to chat with him (3 languages).
  • My father once sat in front of the TV showing Bloomberg channel, so he probably knows English (4 languages).
  • (continue like that...)
This is a dangerous trick for readers who operate according to the mechanism: first bend the truth a little, then let irrational, lazy fact-checkers bend the rest, then keep this twisted truth alive as long as possible for it to become true. This trick is used a lot in media censorship because of its effectiveness.

Structure of the analysis:
Consists of 2 parts:
1 - Fact-check from what the Communist Party of Vietnam said
2 - Fact-check from what UNESCO says
3 - The truth about Vo Dong Giang's letter

Full analysis:
1 - Fact-check from the Vietnamese communist side says:
If you look up the keyword "ho chi minh unesco" from Vietnam's IP, the Vietnamese Communist press dominates all of the first results, not even seeing the official page of UNESCO. This shows that the Vietnamese Communist Party has put very strong SEO resources in the country to propagate the importance of Ho Chi Minh City to UNESCO.
In Vietnamese

In English
Continuing, if you search for a more specific keyword "ho chi minh danh nhân văn hóa thế giới" (world cultural celebrities) you will see up to 93,200 results using this word and most of them belong to official agencies of the Vietnamese Communist Party, even mentioning it specifically, is "the 21st world cultural celebrity".
First, check what UNESCO officially calls "danh nhân văn hóa thế giới" (world cultural celebrities) in English:
In Vietnamese

In English
Each place translates differently and there is no source from UNESCO talking about this title!
=> UNESCO does not have any award title called "Danh nhân văn hóa thế giới" ("World Cultural Celebrity")!
Continue, look up the keyword "list of honored individuals by UNESCO" and you will not find a UNESCO list of these individuals (which means the number 21 is somehow counted by the Vietnamese Communist Party). .
What's more interesting is, any result with the words "UNESCO honors..." comes from Vietnam! but even UNESCO does not use this word honor!
https://preview.redd.it/uchdtz9aryxc1.png?width=789&format=png&auto=webp&s=5fd51b5dac8a5ea9704da50f85d3e0a6f1dbd3ed

https://preview.redd.it/ittzq4dbryxc1.png?width=789&format=png&auto=webp&s=28d82db9ad8fd56d4aacd268aba31acb0987be76
Let's try to ask ChatGPT to see what the answer is:

https://preview.redd.it/ux73u7pvryxc1.png?width=725&format=png&auto=webp&s=75c99bbf6a59f86268121a87216799c4c056208e
Because this list could not be found:
=> "21st" is counted by the Vietnamese Communist Party to create the feeling that this list is real.
This trick of pretending to invent specific information to create a sense of credibility is very common. For example, a US investigative detective once threatened a suspect, "Tell me honestly because the US Government has advanced satellites that can take pictures through walls and see the shapes of residents inside the house. Therefore, just by comparing that appearance and the testimony, we can determine the lie", this clearly has more weight than the old saying "tell the truth, we know everything".
Thus, UNESCO does not have the title "World Cultural Celebrity" and there is no list of these people, so the Vietnamese Communist Party took information about this "21st world cultural celebrity" from where?
The Vietnamese Communist press relies on a document called:
Documents of the 24th meeting of UNESCO, held from October 20 to November 20, 1987
This document has Document code: 24C
The part that CSVN uses is the proposed section 18.65 so CSVN records it as 24C/18.65

In Vietnamese

In english
This is an official document from UNESCO, anyone can read it directly or download it:
https://preview.redd.it/v45tdp1isyxc1.png?width=857&format=png&auto=webp&s=0965c77ab1e88270d3818eb42c8910f8fb212d38
=> Thus, the only document that the Vietnamese Communist Party issued was Proposal No. 18.65 in UNESCO's meeting documents, coded 24C. Note: This is just a suggestion, not a decision!
Let's start with the UNESCO side.
2 - Fact-check from UNESCO side says:
This document records the content discussed at that meeting.
Scroll down to section 18.6 (located on page 140 in PDF pages), this section talks about proposals to Member States and the Director-General of UNESCO on celebrating the birthdays of certain people proposed by countries themselves. .
From sections 18.62 to 18.67 are proposals from 6 countries about 6 people who should celebrate the anniversary, including Ho Chi Minh, located in section 18.65 (page 142) as cited by the Vietnamese Communist Party.

https://preview.redd.it/f5gwqccrsyxc1.png?width=734&format=png&auto=webp&s=c423bf3f2698af1a1e7f0a946bd031ad4ce9db9e
=> So here we know that Section 18.65 in UNESCO's document 24C is a suggestion and request, it is not a announced decision at all! So are the words in this proposal written by UNESCO? Did UNESCO see Ho Chi Minh as a great man and wrote so themselves?

3 - The truth of Vo Dong Giang's letter
We all know that to win awards like music and movies, we don't just have to sit in one place and someone will come and invite us to the podium and present the awards, but we ourselves have to apply to attend the awards first, then The new board reviews the applications and they begin their evaluation.
To be recognized by UNESCO, countries must submit proposal documents. So there must definitely be a proposal from Vietnam, but UNESCO cannot come to Vietnam on its own!
Then we will look into the documents prepared before this 24th meeting to see if there is such a proposal.
Absolutely such documentation exists:
Preparation of the provisional agenda of the twenty-fourth session of the General Conference

https://preview.redd.it/ydtkoht3tyxc1.png?width=844&format=png&auto=webp&s=bc52dcceb331068d3533c05e1bffbb18be65c249
This is evidence of documents read directly and downloaded from UNESCO
This document contains content to prepare for the meeting. For example, in section ADDENDUM 2 (Appendix No. 2) (page 34 in PDF) is a letter from the Permanent Delegation of the Netherlands to the Director General of UNESCO.
In section ADDENDUM 3 (page 35), it is about a letter from Vietnam.

https://preview.redd.it/15lek54btyxc1.png?width=596&format=png&auto=webp&s=7f4917c3a94e81a339b056499598340807295cf7

=> So, UNESCO received a letter from Vietnam requesting to celebrate the birthday of Mr. Ho Chi Minh as well as other countries, and they suggested putting it on the agenda for consideration.

And here is the full text of the letter (on the next page 36) with both English and Vietnamese versions:

https://preview.redd.it/5czdybsityxc1.png?width=704&format=png&auto=webp&s=86c7d09e4d93d1eb0a528712e45b3413be8e7e97

https://preview.redd.it/6cevh93ktyxc1.png?width=690&format=png&auto=webp&s=b70544dcb79012156f3daf4cc8eb3dc93e2f2b3e
=> Do you find the words in this letter familiar? Because the words in this letter were later copied and pasted verbatim into Proposal No. 18.65 in Document 24C earlier! UNESCO never wrote it! How can UNESCO check whether HCM is "outstanding and heroic" or not and compose those words?
=> So, UNESCO has followed the correct process of "you are a member, you have the right to propose - I will put your proposal up to submit - and it's up to everyone to approve it or not", content is to implore members and Directors to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Ho Chi Minh's birth in 1990!
=> So, in 1990, did anyone organize a celebration? There is no one, you can't find any photos or documents proving that UNESCO and its member countries followed that request :)
=> So, in the end, there is no "WORLD cultural celebrity" like the Communist Party of Vietnam who fabricated and put words into UNESCO's mouth! Yet they used a birthday request letter to push that lie into generations of children, students, all Vietnamese people for more than 30 years! This is what they wrote more than 30 years later :

In Vietnamese

In English
=> Isn't this a petition? As for these words, it was Vietnam who wrote the request, not UNESCO!
=> They wrote as if the meeting that day was solemnly dedicated to Ho Chi Minh, HCM was the center of the meeting?!? While it's just a small section near the end of the proposal "Everyone, please celebrate my grandfather's birthday next time"?!?!
=> If we organize a general fact-check of everything the Vietnamese Communist Party has written in history books and newspapers over the past decades, will it take 100-200 years to check all these distortions?
Another interesting fact is:
If you look at item 18 of document 24C, you will see that along with Ho Chi Minh there are 5 other people:

  • 18.62 is proposed to celebrate the 100th birth anniversary of Phya Anuman Rajadhon of Thailand
  • 18.63 is a proposal to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the birth of Thomas Muntzer of Germany
  • 18.64 is the proposal to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Anton Semionovich Makarenko of the Soviet Union
  • 18.66 is the proposal to celebrate the 100th birth anniversary of Jawaharlal Nehru in India
  • 18.67 is the proposal to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the birth of Sinan in Türkiye

But then, of all these people, only Jawaharlal Neru was specially honored by UNESCO when a medal was cast in his memory in 1989. However, UNESCO only wrote about him:
"Recognized his scholarly works as part of the world's cultural heritage" but did not give him the title of "World Cultural Celebrity" at all!

The only person on the proposed list that year was honored by UNESCO
If you still don't feel convinced, the Head of the "UNESCO campaign to honor Nguyen Du" committee has officially responded: UNESCO does not have the title of world cultural celebrity.
And that person suggested that this way of calling should be changed to another name (perhaps because he had worked with UNESCO so he clearly understood that calling it so was nonsense and had no official basis), but the Vietnamese communists, for the sake of The purpose of indoctrination has been disregarded.

🔗Stack-On Beveled 18-Gun Security Cabinet - Protect Your Valuables

https://preview.redd.it/fcryxwsktqxc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f73827e404aadfe2063fd8329e48b4aca5d2892f
The Stack-On Beveled 18-Gun Security Cabinet, Steel, is a reliable and durable option for storing your rifles, shotguns, pistols, and other valuable belongings. The exterior finish is a sleek black, and the interior is spacious with an abundance of storage options. One of the main draws of this cabinet is its strong security features, including a key-coded cylinder lock and 4-way door locking system.
However, the most disappointing aspect of this cabinet is its build quality. The thin metal sheets and weak locking mechanism make it an untrustworthy option for securing your precious firearms and valuables. I had high hopes for this cabinet, but unfortunately, it did not meet my expectations. I found the installation process to be somewhat difficult and time-consuming as well.
On a positive note, the steel shelves are a nice touch for added durability and support. They make it easier to organize your firearms and accessories, and the adjustable half-width shelves allow for customization. Additionally, the molded barrel rests and foam-padded bottom provide an extra level of protection for your antique firearms.
Unfortunately, the interior design is not as well thought out as it could be. The placement of the barrel rest holes is not ideal for all firearms, and some users have noted that the paint job inside the cabinet is of poor quality, leading to rust formation.
Overall, while the Stack-On Beveled 18-Gun Security Cabinet, Steel, has its merits, the build quality and installation process are significant drawbacks that cannot be ignored.

🔗Ultra-Secure Narrow Gun Safe with Biometric Lock and 40 Gun Capacity

https://preview.redd.it/5jc67t6ltqxc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e890ca84c7dbf8f28d63c35b8f2f38e88df2853d
Recently, I had the opportunity to use the Sports Afield Preserve SA5940P Gun Safe. This big guy stood tall at 59 inches by 40 inches by 22 inches, giving it a commanding presence in my home. The first thing that caught my eye was the fire rating of 45 minutes at 1400°F, and its waterproof capabilities in 2 feet of water for 7 days. Impressed by the safety it provided, I decided to try my luck on opening it. To my surprise, the biometric lock worked almost instantly, recognizing my fingerprint with ease.
Inside the safe, I discovered a well-organized interior. The 40-gun capacity left plenty of room for my firearms, and the additional 8-gun storage on the left side was a thoughtful touch. The fully carpeted interior and barrel rest made it easy to keep the firearms in place and protected. I also appreciated the reinforced top shelf, which provided a reliable space for storing important documents.
However, there were a few aspects of the Preserve SA5940P that could have been improved. Firstly, the illuminated biometric lock had a somewhat finicky process when programming the unique fingerprints. It took a few tries to get it just right, but eventually, I managed to get it working without a hitch.
Additionally, the presence of a rather noisy alarm proved to be a double-edged sword. On one hand, it provided an extra layer of security, but on the other hand, it was not a silent operation. It seemed rather sensitive to movement, making it difficult to make any changes to the firearms or documents without triggering the alarm.
Overall, the Sports Afield Preserve SA5940P Gun Safe delivered on its promise of providing a fire-resistant and waterproof storage solution for my firearms, documents, and other valuable items. Despite the minor hiccups, I still feel that it is a reliable and secure option for storing guns and other important belongings.

🔗Secure, 1-hour Fire Rated UL23 Gun Safe with Advanced Security and Pry-Resistant Features

https://preview.redd.it/pc1flvlltqxc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3d1adf1ae4484220b8ce8a8c49a87b6b11ec6018
The Stealth UL23 is a sleek gun safe that caught my attention with its eye-catching design. The 12 gauge solid steel door and body give it a sturdy feel, while the 4-way locking system ensures that it's secure and pry-resistant.
It's conveniently compact, but there's plenty of room for your firearms and other valuables. The one-hour fire rating and intumescent door seal are excellent safety features, but I wish it was water-resistant, too.
Overall, I'm pleased with my purchase and would recommend it to others looking for a reliable and well-built gun safe.

🔗Winchester 26 Long Gun Safe - Secure and Spacious Storage for Your Firearms

https://preview.redd.it/e4n17vxltqxc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=deec1dc68d662113fc277fee9957841e5c66ece4
As a reviewer who has been using the Winchester 36 Long Gun Safe in my daily life, I can confidently say that this is a great investment for anyone looking to keep their firearms and valuables secure. The first thing that grabbed my attention was the sleek, powder-coated gun metal gray finish, which added a stylish touch to the safe while also enhancing its durability.
One of the standout features of this gun safe was its electronic lock with an override key. Having both an electronic keypad and a backup key gives me peace of mind knowing that I won't be locked out in case of a power failure or if the electronic lock fails. The solid steel locking bolts provided robust security, ensuring that my firearms are kept safe and secure at all times.
The interior of the safe was spacious enough to accommodate up to 26 long guns, making it an ideal choice for gun enthusiasts and collectors alike. Additionally, the adjustable shelves allowed me to customize the layout according to my needs, providing ample storage for other valuables as well.
However, there were some cons worth mentioning. The door of the safe had a bit of play in it when closed and locked, which could be improved upon in future models. Furthermore, the instruction manual could have been more comprehensive, especially when it came to resetting the combo on the electronic lock.
Overall, I would recommend the Winchester 36 Long Gun Safe to anyone looking for a reliable, well-made safe with ample storage and good security features. It may not be perfect, but at this price point, it's hard to beat.

🔗Secure Haven Gun Safe with E-Lock and Custom Features

As a sports enthusiast, I've always been on the lookout for reliable equipment and accessories, so when I came across the Haven SA5942HX Gun Safe from Sports Afield, it caught my attention. The first thing that struck me was its impressive size – it can store up to 48 long guns and 8 handguns, making it perfect for gun owners like me who need secure storage space for their firearms.
One of the standout features of this gun safe is its pry-resistant recessed doors with 1.5" steel bolts, ensuring that the contents are well-protected against unauthorized access. It's also California CDOJ Approved and has a 75-minute fire rating, providing peace of mind in case of emergencies.
Customization-wise, the Haven SA5942HX doesn't disappoint either. It comes with a deluxe door organization kit that allows for better organization, and adjustable shelving to accommodate various firearm sizes. Additionally, it features UL Rated dual outlets and 2 USB ports, offering convenience when it comes to charging or using the built-in LED motion lights – features I found very useful.
In terms of construction, the 14-gauge steel body feels solid and well-built. The safe has a weight of 722 pounds, ensuring it's not easy to move without proper tools. The interior is surprisingly sleek, thanks to the 4 bar LED lights.
While I appreciate the overall quality and functionality of the safe, some minor setbacks include the need to remove a sticker on the keypad for better visibility, and a less-than-perfect shipping experience. Nevertheless, I believe that the Sports Afield Haven SA5942HX Gun Safe is worth considering for its custom features and high-quality construction.

The Mesa MBF7236C Gun & Rifle Safe has been my reliable partner in keeping my valuable gun collection and prized possessions secure. This safe has surpassed my expectations in terms of functionality and build quality.
One of the standout features of this safe is its electronic lock with a digital keypad. It's user-friendly and secure, allowing me to easily access my safe without any fuss. The three-user electronic lock system ensures that only authorized individuals can gain access to it.
In terms of build quality, the safe's construction is impressive, boasting an all-steel exterior. It's quite spacious, with a capacity of 42 rifles, and the interior is well designed, providing ample space for storing guns, documents, and other valuables. The safe's structure is solid and sturdy, offering robust protection against burglary and fires.
While I love the safe's build quality and functionalities, there have been a few minor drawbacks. The combination lock sometimes feels a bit flimsy, and the power cord can protrude quite a bit, making it a bit of an inconvenience. However, these issues are relatively minor and do not detract from the safe's overall performance.
In conclusion, the Mesa MBF7236C Gun & Rifle Safe has proven to be a reliable and practical solution for storing my precious firearms and valuables. Despite a few minor inconsistencies, the safe has surpassed my expectations and provided me with the peace of mind I was looking for. I highly recommend this safe to anyone in need of reliable and secure storage for their firearms and valuables.

The Tracker Safe 8 Gun Safe has been a reliable addition to my living space. Its dimensions are perfect for fitting into tight corners, and the gray carpeted interior along with adjustable shelving makes it a versatile choice for storing a variety of items. One of the key features I've appreciated is its heavy weight and secure dial lock, which gives the safe a solid feel and provides a peace of mind against theft.
However, its size may not be ideal for accommodating larger guns, and the exterior depth can be a bit misleading due to the thickness of the safe's walls. Additionally, the mechanical lock, while functional, isn't as smooth or modern in operation as an electronic counterpart might have been.
The Tracker Safe 8 Gun Safe has proven to be a practical and secure option for those needing a small gun safe. Its fireproof protection adds an extra layer of peace of mind, and the adjustable shelving makes it a great choice for storing a variety of items.

Recently, I was tasked with securing my firearms and keeping them away from my children. I came across the Homak 8-Gun Steel Security Cabinet and thought it would be a perfect fit for my needs. Upon arrival, I immediately noticed its rugged construction and textured gloss black finish. Unboxing the cabinet, I appreciated its full-length piano hinge that securely holds the door in place, along with the HMC high-security tubular locking system.
One feature that stood out to me was the fixed metal shelf. It allowed for organized storage and made it easy to access my ammunition and other valuables. The plastic barrel rest kit with adhesive backing also prevented any potential damage to my firearms. Furthermore, the two plastic door organizer bins provided additional storage space for smaller items.
For added security, the cabinet can be mounted to the wall and includes a four-way locking system with two live-action locking plates. With a storage capacity of 6.02 cubic feet, it was able to accommodate eight rifles or shotguns up to 50 inches in length.
However, there were a few drawbacks I encountered while using this gun cabinet. The foam backing that comes with the product was quite sticky and challenging to apply without causing damage. Additionally, I noticed that the top shelf only extends halfway to the back, making it difficult to store longer firearms with scopes.
Overall, the Homak 8-Gun Steel Security Cabinet has met my needs in terms of securing my firearms and providing organized storage. Its design and features, such as the fixed metal shelf and four-way locking system, have proven to be beneficial. Despite the few drawbacks I encountered, I recommend this product for those seeking an affordable yet secure gun cabinet solution.

Well, I've been using the Browning BF23E Gun Safe for some time now, and let me tell you, it's genuinely a game-changer. From the moment I installed it, I noticed the sturdiness and the robust feel of the 12-gauge steel body. Its Force Deflector Locking System gives me peace of mind knowing that my firearms are well-protected.
One of the things that really stood out to me about this safe was how spacious it is inside. I was able to fit in all my long guns and even more smaller items on the standard DPX quick access barrel rack and shelving. Additionally, the sewn-in pistol pouches on the black carpet door panel are a nice touch for keeping my handguns organized.
The Browning BF23E Gun Safe's exterior also deserves a mention. The Hammer Gray textured finish with black hardware gives it a really sleek look that blends perfectly with my home décor.
However, there's one thing that I wished was a little different - the wiggly floor. Although it sits securely on the floor with the use of oversized body washers, it would have been great if the floor was a bit sturdier. It still serves its purpose, but a little more rigidity would elevate the whole experience.
All in all, I'm extremely happy with my Browning BF23E Gun Safe. It provides excellent protection for my firearms and is stylish enough to not seem out of place in my home. If you're in the market for a trustworthy gun safe that can hold up to 23 long guns, this is definitely worth considering.

I recently assembled the Stack On 8-Gun Security Cabinet, and I must say, it exceeded my expectations! The cabinet is sturdy and perfectly fits eight shotguns or rifles up to 52 inches tall. I particularly enjoyed the removable steel shelf, which provides additional storage space. However, I noticed the shelf is only 4 inches deep, so larger items might not fit.
In terms of construction, the cabinet comes with a 3-point locking system with a double-bitted key coded lock, ensuring greater security for your firearms. Additionally, the pre-drilled mounting holes allow easy assembly and attachment to the floor or wall, and the foam padded bottom and barrel rests help protect your firearms from scratches.
While the cabinet has a black, epoxy paint finish with silver accents, it's not recommended for storing CDs or other electronic storage devices. I did encounter a minor issue with a damaged lock during delivery, but the manufacturer promptly sent a replacement.
Overall, this Stack On 8-Gun Security Cabinet is a solid choice for a budget-friendly gun storage solution. It's easy to assemble, and with a few adjustments, offers ample space for your firearms. Just remember to plan ahead for where you'll place it, as it may not fit in an ideal location due to its dimensions.

I recently had the opportunity to use the SecureIT Gun Wall Vault Armory Kit #8, and let me tell you, it's a game-changer for storing and displaying firearms. The design allows me to utilize every inch of my closet, and the capacity is amazing. I can store up to 54 firearms vertically and 3 pistols, which is more than I ever imagined. The CradleGrid technology is a game-changer, providing customizable storage options for various firearms.
However, the no-tool customization might not suit everyone's preference. Although it's convenient for me, some users might find it less sturdy or less secure than a wall with screws and tools holding the panels in place. Overall, this gun wall is a fantastic way to organize your firearms and make your gun room or closet look like a "wall of weapons. " It offers the perfect balance of design, capacity, and customization. I highly recommend it!

I recently tried out the 8-Gun Locking Gun Safe, and let me tell you, it's a game-changer for anyone who needs to secure their firearms and valuable items. The dark gray exterior blends seamlessly into any space, while the muted yellow inner walls add a touch of color. The dimensions are perfect for a medium-sized safe, offering enough space to store up to 8 long barrel rifles, while still leaving room for an upper lockbox with separate keys.
One of the most impressive features of this safe is the padded interior that carefully cradles your firearms, ensuring they stay in top condition. The manual locking mechanism is a solid deterrent against would-be thieves, and the predrilled holes make it easy to bolt the safe to the floor or wall for added security. The skeleton style keys are a nice touch, adding an extra layer of protection.
However, there are some drawbacks to consider. For starters, this safe isn't fireproof, so if you live in an area prone to wildfires or other disasters, you might want to look elsewhere. Additionally, the safe weighs 102 pounds, so it's definitely a two-person job to move it around.
Overall, the 8-Gun Locking Gun Safe is a great choice for anyone looking to secure their firearms and valuable items. With its sleek design, comfortable interior, and solid security features, it's definitely worth considering.

I recently stumbled upon the Sports Afield SA5308GS 8-Gun Security Safe, and I must say, it's been a game-changer for keeping my firearms secure and easily accessible. This gun cabinet boasts a spacious capacity to hold up to eight long guns, complete with eight long gun barrel rest positions.
One of the highlights for me is the robust keyed locking mechanism, featuring three active and two deadbolts, which ensures that only those with the right key can access my precious collection. The external dimensions of the safe are just the right size to accommodate most firearms, and the internal dimensions are well thought out for easy access and organization.
While the Sports Afield SA5308GS 8-Gun Security Safe has its perks, it's essential to note that the weight might be an issue for those who don't use a bolt-down kit. However, this isn't a deal-breaker for me, as the extra security it brings to the table is well worth the slight inconvenience.
Overall, I highly recommend this gun cabinet to anyone looking for a reliable and secure way to store their firearms. The Sports Afield SA5308GS has been a reliable addition to my home, providing peace of mind and easy access to my firearms whenever needed.

Using the Homak HS30136028 8 Gun Double Door Steel Security Cabinet in my daily life has been a mixed experience. On the positive side, the cabinet's durable steel construction feels sturdy, and the locking system provides a sense of security. The powder-coated finish adds a touch of style to the piece, making it look more polished than a plain metal cabinet.
However, there have been a few drawbacks to using this cabinet. Firstly, the mounting system is quite heavy, making it difficult to install or move around easily. Additionally, the cabinet's dimensions are quite large, which may limit its placement options in smaller spaces.
Despite these minor drawbacks, the Homak 8-Gun Double Door Security Cabinet has proven to be a reliable and secure storage solution for firearms and other valuables. The ability to store up to 8 guns and extras makes it a practical choice for those who need extra space for their collection. Overall, while there are some areas for improvement, this cabinet is a solid choice for anyone looking for a heavy-duty, secure storage option.

Buyer's Guide

When it comes to choosing the right 8 gun safe, there are several important factors to consider. This buyer's guide aims to provide you with the necessary information to make an informed decision.

Size and Capacity

First and foremost, you'll need to consider the size and capacity of the safe. How many guns do you plan to store? Make sure the safe can accommodate your current and future needs. The safe should be large enough to store the guns but not so large that it becomes a target for theft.

https://preview.redd.it/qelkul1ttqxc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3b38c45c33a205a8b557ceaf547afd19d5d8f2c2

Burglary and Fire Protection

A good 8-gun safe should offer both burglary and fire protection. Check the safe's certification from organizations such as the Underwriters Laboratories (UL) or the California Armory Board (CAB). These certifications provide assurance that the safe can withstand attempted break-ins and protect your firearms from fire and water damage.

Locking Mechanisms

The locking mechanism is another critical feature to consider. Look for a safe with multiple locking systems, such as combination locks, electronic locks, and key locks. This not only provides added security but also ensures that you can access your firearms in case of an emergency.

Material and Construction

The material and construction of the safe are crucial for its durability and protection. Steel is a common material used for safes due to its strength and durability. Look for a safe with a thick steel door and walls, as this will make it harder for thieves to break in. The welding of the safe should also be of high quality to prevent weak spots and reduce the risk of structural failure.

https://preview.redd.it/rvis0ngttqxc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=06f80fd97d4e79402464245073156dcfcf539982

Weight and Portability

A good 8-gun safe should be heavy enough to deter theft. However, it should also be portable enough to be move if necessary. Many safes come with wheels for easy relocation. Consider the weight of the safe and your ability to transport it before making a purchase.

Design and Aesthetics

Aesthetics play a role in any purchase, and 8-gun safes are no exception. Consider the design of the safe and whether it will complement the rest of your home's décor. Some safes come with a modern, sleek design, while others have a more traditional look. Choose the style that best suits your needs and preferences.
By considering these factors when selecting an 8-gun safe, you can ensure that you find a product that offers the right balance of security, convenience, and style.

2024.04.28 02:03 Cultural_Ad3881 Home Security - with accessible API

Hi,
We're in the process of renovating our house and building an extension. Plaster about to go in, so cabling time.
We want to put in an alarm system with four or five wired PIRs. We'd ideally want smoke alarms attached to the system, maybe a couple of reed switches.
I want to be able to talk locally to the device over an IP network to poll for (or be informed of) state (armed, not armed, triggered). I'd like to code this communication channel myself, not rely on an HA integration (though I'll happily look at existing HA integration code), so I'm after a system that's doesn't rely on proprietary communication layer, and does not need to be connected to the cloud to talk back to the device.
I don't want to rely on a closed, cloud based infrastructure that might be gone in 5 years time, or a rubbish Android app that isn't ever updated.
What's the state of this kind of thing in 2024?
As far as I can tell there's
- Elk M1 Gold which is a pretty ancient device now, expensive and hard to source.
- Older DSC or (maybe newer) Honeywell systems which can be spoken to over an EnvisaLink.
- Konnected.io device connected up to a Bosch 3000.
- It appears that it might be possible to talk directly to the Bosch 3000 looking at this HA integration (https://github.com/mag1024/bosch-alarm-homeassistant) though I don't see any public comms information from BOSCH itself.

Can anyone chime in and make recommendations, suggestions up-to-date as of mid-2024?
We're in Australia and the go-to device here is the Bosch 3000. Some devices seem pretty hard to get here.

2024.04.24 16:11 Fit-Worry1210 Why does the AI have to "look closer" a second time?

Why does the AI have to
Often I give data, and Claude or ChatGPT (more Claude) assumes something that is wrong. Till I say "Hey look closer" then she says "Oh yes I now see Blah Blah Blah is different than I thought on first glance".
This confuses me, does the AI have levels of attention and for some reason will change the scrutiny and attention to detail? Why? Shouldn't the AI be able to "see everything" in terms of knowing a json array is not valid :P I mean it's not rocket science a linter would tell you that.

2024.04.19 19:59 Fun_Wash2996 Aube RC840T with Nest to control fan

Hi Reddit Folks,
I have an Aube RC840T-120, (click link for manual) and I am trying to control a Terra Bloom fan (something like this). The fan will plug into a 3 prong outlet, wired via the relay.
...background; I have a main room that has a mini-split providing heating / cooling. I have a bathroom off the main room that I want to get the air into. Idea was to use Nest to control the fan to turn off and on based on temperature in the bathroom.
I had an electrician wire up the relay. I double checked, and all the wiring looks good:
The Aube relay's light turns off and on via Nest's control. However, nothing happens. The fan is always on.
(In fact, the fan was on even before I wired up the thermostat)
Is this because the fan is not a resistant load? How can I complete this project?
(bonus question: can the Nest be fooled into running the fan in "heat" and "Cool" modes?)
Thanks all
[Edit; it is the original Nest "learning thermostat" ... I think that is what they call the OG Nest]
[Edit 2; changed some words to be more understandable / descriptive, and added link to Aube Instruction Manual]

2024.04.16 03:23 Signal-World-157 Offering recurring time-specific access codes for multiple sub-leasers

Hello! I work at a private school, and we would like to sublease our campus for specific hours of specific days. Our first sublease tenant will be using the campus 3:30-6 pm, Monday-Thursday. Currently we only have one tenant lined up, but we are looking to have multiple tenants in the future, each with different recurring timeframes of access. Ideally, we would be able to generate multiple access codes that are time-sensitive, recurring, and only valid on the correct day(s) of the week. We would also like to be able to manage this remotely (via an app), so we can easily create new codes for new tenants.
We currently have ADT security, and they don't offer anything even remotely close to what we need.
We're willing to switch our security system or install new hardware, if it would let us facilitate this situation easily. Does anyone have suggestions for a security solution that fits our needs? With ADT, we could potentially house a keyfob inside a smart lock-box that's near the front door. Which means we're also open to using a smart-lock app, but I've had trouble finding an app that is able to deliver this. Any help would be appreciated, thanks so much!!

2024.04.15 23:54 ChapterSpecial6920 Assassination by Natural Causes

Watcher glances at Prison Planet post, and shakes his head with mild amusement.
Human: “They’re fuckin’ retarded man.”
Watcher shakes his head yes in agreement, knowingly.
Watcher: “Yeah.”
Watcher laughs and shakes his head again.
Watcher: “I hope you post this shit!”
Human catches his breath…
Human: “How many things can you conflate with the idea of being a prison? School? Hospital? Rehab? Family reunions?-“
They speak in unison:
WatcheHuman: “It’s like they’re programmed.”
Watcher pauses and stares with an eye of discernment…
Watcher: “What does this have to do with Reptilians?”
Human: “Multiple forms of intelligent life on one planet? What the hell makes anyone think it’s a school for humans?”
Watcher: “Don’t you mean prison?”
Human: “No. All kids think school’s a prison, especially if it’s full of shit.”
Watcher laughs, then motions for the Human to continue.
Human: “I mean, doesn’t anyone know what an Agent of Influence is? Do the most basic level of research! Are prison planet fear-mongers so enraptured that they won’t think to question their own bullshit?”
Watcher: “Questioning your own bullshit is not economically prudent in a non-capitalist society profiteering on theft and abusing the innocent with what they don’t know, is it?”
Human: “But… this shit isn’t even censored on Google.”
Watcher: “Don’t capitalize it.”
Human: “Sorry, google.”
Watcher: “So what did you mean by that title?”
Human: “That multi-generational weapons manufacturers responsible for Agent Orange and Cluster Bombs like Monsonto and Honeywell collaborate with pharmaceutical companies and ICD-10-CM diagnostic codes established by insurance companies to manufacture the determination of death to be ‘natural causes’ to evade financial costs and litigation fees?”
Watcher: “I’m sure Nobody’s paying attention to that, huh?”
Human instinctively takes another drink of alcohol on behalf of both friends and enemies…
Human: “Yeah, I’m sure you’re totally going to pull the wool over the eyes of hyper-intelligent aliens who can instantaneously translate everything you’ve seen, heard, and been through… CIA and Illuminati’s gotta be shitting their pants if they’re mildly aware of what’s going on.”
Watcher: “… Mildly.”
Human: “Logically and scientifically creating their own torture chambers without even being aware of it, far worse than what The Bible even describes. It’s no wonder why it’s hard to get people to listen.”
Watcher jokingly waves a rod in the air…
Watcher: “How about that rod!?”
Human: “Yeah, better to have your flesh flayed off and slowly cooked with expanded consciousness until you continuously felt it as though you were a human baby, than experience the logical reality of where we were going to end up, both Human and Reptilian.”
Watcher: “People can’t even stomach the reality of satanic ritual abuse. They think that’s as bad as it gets?”
Human shakes his head no, discouraged by the realistic prospect of what he saw…
Human: “Ridiculous. I know their brains were turned into jelly by fear mongers and corporate profiteers. If the victims can’t recover, I find it hard to imagine what will happen to the fear mongers and corporate profiteers.”
Watcher smiles and nods knowingly to a Warrior-Watcher, shaking his head no…
Watcher: “You don’t want to know.”
Human shakes his head no as well, understanding how defenseless NHI were to this whole ordeal the whole time.
Human: “These reptiles never stood a fuckin’ chance. Profiled as demons, serpents and all that. Being physically invincible doesn’t mean shit if you can’t defend your mind.”
Watcher: “Exactly. Again, what does your power mean if you have no idea how to use it?”
Human points at The Bible in the room behind him, referencing Exodus and Moses’ confrontation with Pharoh.
Human: “You know, I was never into reptiles.”
Watcher: “But you did it anyway.”
Human: “… profiling proliferation of neurotoxins to permanently disable infants by having it mixed with baby formula is fucked up. Fluoride, God damn chemistry 101, what’s the most dangerous and neurotoxic element? Dissolves the bones from the inside out upon skin contact.”
Watcher: “Thank Monsanto.”
Human: “One part of many, right?”
Watcher: “Right.”
Human: “Then have reptilians enter that consciousness and not understand why they’re getting their minds fucked up.”
Watcher: “Keep talking. Patience is a virtue. Better to savor that agonizing screams of non-animals so that the rest may hear and repent, for those who live by the sword, die by the sword. If only they knew how much sharper ours were.”
Human: “And so I speak… on Reddit. A hotbed for AoI’s. Agents of Influence.”
Watcher: “Let ‘em. It saves them a special spot. You know as well as I do, suicide won’t save them.”
Human: “Yeah, advanced technology can already reconstitute a lost consciousness, and reunite the flesh. Heterochronic Parabiosis and head transplantation – ancient primitive human technologies. So little imagination people have.”
Watcher: “So very little.”

2024.04.13 23:58 Steve-lrwin ADT+ experience, TLDR: it's worse than i thought.

TLDR: Long rant below, so the short version is: no granularity in sensors when setting away/home/night modes.
Its hard coded to Away: All sensors on / Night: Motion Off, Doors on / Stay: Delays on, Motions OFF.
Other negatives are customer service are clueless, barely speak English.
-=========-
So i finally set up my ADT+ this weekend.
Minor gripe, the sensors are ugly, and huge. like 6x the size of Nest. The motion sensor is a big white brick that now sits proudly in the most prominent corner of my living room.
So far not a huge issue.
Now I've set it up, I'm pulling it all down again.
My setup is normally like this:
I have a big house. Motion sensors downstairs, with door sensors. and a Motion sensor upstairs in my bedroom (as my upstairs bedroom has an accessible window from outside due to a canopy of my roof that juts out underneath them).
At night when I sleep, I enable my sleep setting - so motion sensors downstairs ON and my door alarms ON. Motion sensors in the bedroom are off for obvious reasons.
I had the Nest Base in my bedroom which was a motion sensor, which was disabled at night when sleeping.
When I was away - I would obviously have ALL sensors armed.
The reason I do this is because when I'm sleeping, if there's movement downstairs - I will be alarmed immediately.
If there's movement in my bedroom upstairs when I am away, I am alerted.
Basic stuff and Nest did this. Easy.
ADT+, I cannot see a way to do this.
Their settings are hard coded to:
Away: All sensors on
Night/Sleep: Door sensors on, motion off.
I have been trying to troubleshoot this with ADT+ customer 'service' for an hour and a half to have granularity so motion sensors are ON downstrais during sleep, and the one in my bedroom is OFF.
Not possible.
They barely speak English and have hung up on me the twice.
I am asking them how to change the Night settings.
First guy took 5 minutes to pull up my account and then hung up when i asked the question.
Second guy told me 'i cannot see your app, you have to change the settings yourself' ...
I told him 'I know this, I'm asking you, the technical support customer service agent - how do I do this on my app. Please walk me through how to change Night settings'. He then hangs up.
Third guy was finally helpful, and was trying things. Nothing worked.
He then tells me I shouldn't change my Night settings to have motion on because motion will trigger when I go to the bathroom.
I tell him my motion sensor is downstairs so it won't.
He tells me I don't need it on because I have door sensors.
I ask him what if someone doesn't come through a door? or is already hiding in my house?
He has no answer to this scenario.
Im put on hold and he comes back and forth talking to technical support (he is clueless, and is an intermediary to someone who has more knowledge.. so dumb, why can't I be talking to the person with technical knowledge?).
After about 90 minutes of him getting me to try things, such as:
setting up rules, which have pretty granular settings like 'if this then that' type scenarios.
However, these rules ARE POINTLESS.
It lets you set 'if motion is detected AND alarm system is set to night mode perform Action X'.
Now there are two problems with this:
1) there's no ALARM option in the actions.
2) it doesn't work because when you arm at night it turns your motion sensor completely OFF.
So, even testing a rule 'If NIGHT mode is ON, AND motion is DETECTED perform DISARM ALARM.' DOESNT WORK.
Or set action to 'Perform SET TO AWAY'
Or any action for that matter... The system doesn't detect any motion to trigger anything because the Sensor is turned off when you set NIGHT mode. SO the rules are totally pointless.
Its such a poorly thought out app.
Get this - the guy tells me that the ADT Smart Command panel, which comes with the professionally installed system - which costs $$$$ and needs an ADT guy to install, plus a monthly subscription - has the granularity to set motion on per sensor when you are sleeping.
This is the final straw to me.
So ADT know FINE WELL this is a function people use. It was available on my system before Nest 10 years ago, and was on Nest. ADT has it available on their 'professional installed' system - but they have purposely NERFED it on their ADT+ Nest replacement.
I asked if I can sell this system,, and he says no - its E-waste. Since the hardware is tied to me whoever uses it needs my email to use it even if its factory reset, and new customers need to have new hardware from ADT.
What a joke.
I knew ADT would be bad, but not this bad.
Now back to the drawing board to figure out what system to replace nest with now that i have 2 seperate systems that are both now E-Waste.

2024.04.11 01:01 OhSoSally Comparing bids on head pump replacement.

*heat I was always like...cant you just proof your title? Well I looked at it and would have bet it said heat. haha
Manufactured home, currently 15 yr old Miller system with manufactured home style in wall air handler. Stuck with this set up, there is no reasonable option to move it elsewhere. I did open the wall above and add another 20 x 25 intake grill.
A year ago it was repaired and advised that the compressor was nearing the end of its life. At the end of winter it stopped heating as well, I switched it to emergency heat and shoved the problem to the back burner. Recently due to 80* days found out that it also doesn't cool.
I called 4 companies and was only able to get 2 estimates.
Had the first company out the outdoor unit fan wasn't running, the compressor came on but it sounded like it was struggling. They replaced a capacitor, it still wasn't cooling, coolant was low, they tested for leaks inside and outside and determined the TX valve is likely stuck half way causing the low refrigerant reading. The cost to replace the valve is $1924. Based on the manufacturer and age of the unit I decided to get estimates on replacement.
Bid 1 from the company that tried to repair it: $7950 Goodman 4 ton 14.3 seer 2 heat pump Nordyne 10 kw furnace honeywell thermostat condensate overflow protection sound reduction pad
Quoted 10 yr parts and Labor. Concerns = Pretty sure this needs a 15kw furnace I will need to confirm with them that they are using a goodman coil. The reason I am questioning this is the second estimate quoted a matching Mortex furnace and coil with an American standard compressor.
Second estimate: $6920 American Standard 4 ton 4A6H4048N1000A 14.3 seer 4 Ton Mortex coil 15KW Mortex furnace No thermostat - reuse Nest thermostat
10 yr American standard 5 yr Mortex 1 yr Labor
Im leaning towards having the second company bid a goodman unit, if they can fit a Goodman uncased coil vs the Mortex coil. I tried to compare dimensions but wasn't successful with what I could google. Im concerned that the first company specd a lower KW furnace that wouldn't even meet code. I checked the label on the one in place it's 15kw.

2024.04.09 17:35 Neffy27 For Newly Affiliated SELRES

This is my quick version of Navy Reserves 101/Indoc that I give to every newly affiliated Sailor I come across. It’s the initial things I struggled with in the beginning that no one sat down and explained causing me to almost give up so early on something I enjoying doing now 19 years (8 active) in. The INDOC that is provided by NRCs is more of an INDOC of that NRC, not INDOC for the Reserves. There is actually a good Navy Reserve Fundamentals Course (CNRFC-NRF-5.0) course on Navy Knowledge Online (NKO) that will go in more detail than I will.

  1. Every unit has an active duty mission they support and there are two types of units:
Not every unit is ran the same, I'll leave it at that.

  1. Unit Identification Code (UIC), typically 5 digits and is assigned to you. In the Reserves you get assigned two.
TRUIC = UMUIC / Locally-assigned, where your Navy Reserve Center (NRC) and the unit you belong to are at the same place.
TRUIC ≠ UMUIC / Non-locally-assigned (old term is cross-assigned). Your NRC and your unit are not co-located. Its completely normal that your UMUIC is in a completely different state far far away, to include OCONUS. This unit is who you should be spending most of your time and effort with, not with your TRUIC. The success of being non-local is dependent on the communication of both the unit and the sailor.
Unfortunately, the current process of communicating to newly affiliating in the Reserves does a poor job informing what unit you belong or will belong to… Most of the time, Sailors are initially put into a In Assignment Processing (IAP) billet which means, you are temporarily assigned a unit. You need to be getting in MyNavyAssignment.navy.mil and applying for a billet or the detailer will automatically assign you.

  1. Acronyms on doing stuff:
The biggest difference between all of them is just where the $ comes from, different wallets. Each come or not come with certain entitlements dependent on length and type of orders.

  1. Types of years:
All in all, it's the same system as an active duty sailor except we're not earning 365 points each year unless you're doing multiple back-to-back orders.

The Reserves is always a balancing act between family, civilian career, and Navy requirements. Every sailor has something that motivates them, whether it's just extra income, Tricare, or just really enjoy the opportunities. The old recruiting slogan often repeated of "one weekend a month, two weeks a year" just isn't true. The Reserves can let you do as much as you desire, even just bare minimum. It's definitely not meant to just sit in a classroom for weekend but can be your experience if you let it. Thats why it's vital to finding a contributing unit you enjoy being in.

4/9/2024 - I can continue to update this or reword parts as needed.

🔗Stack-On Beveled 18-Gun Security Cabinet - Protect Your Valuables

https://preview.redd.it/wfm1y2jgh8sc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=08ea921bf9ce359af55f1b4ea6787594ea6ebb7f

🔗Ultra-Secure Narrow Gun Safe with Biometric Lock and 40 Gun Capacity

https://preview.redd.it/gn5j3z5hh8sc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f5097f755433c6dae6ab327cddc6db21d0eb312d

🔗Secure, 1-hour Fire Rated UL23 Gun Safe with Advanced Security and Pry-Resistant Features

https://preview.redd.it/vzcbol0ih8sc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5a52278c44daa6d92d8f9e8d48513c19573f9a78
The Stealth UL23 is a sleek gun safe that caught my attention with its eye-catching design.

🔗Winchester 26 Long Gun Safe - Secure and Spacious Storage for Your Firearms

https://preview.redd.it/4s1s5rsih8sc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ccef986602c70941309fab73ff91a817aa8cf023

🔗Secure Haven Gun Safe with E-Lock and Custom Features

https://preview.redd.it/8wd6y77jh8sc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=56bcc3f042458ebf3512a12a690cfe4db85aa1ad

🔗Protective 42-Gun Safe with Combination Lock and Digital Keypad

https://preview.redd.it/h9net60kh8sc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1cedae3b2935ca7275eff9b60ec9803a098f0eb8

🔗Top-Quality 8 Gun Safe with Combination Lock and Fire Protection

https://preview.redd.it/mk0vqd9lh8sc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4ef7c2d262de134493cc230d10a753bfc0336e9c

🔗Secure 8-Gun Steel Safes for Valuable Firearm Holding

https://preview.redd.it/nc2hqm7mh8sc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9bb526c8a280bd917d3ea2f1f41016d8054ce3ba

🔗Durable 23-Gun Storage Safe with American Flag Detailing

https://preview.redd.it/w26htuynh8sc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cd59f9ff0df75f59b22b09e2644f4d5e259c2dd9

🔗Stack-On 8-Gun Ready-to-Assemble Security Cabinet with Barrel Rests

https://preview.redd.it/15n2rjboh8sc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=66095a0775a7d644a0a66656c7a97d0035af2534

🔗SecureIT Gun Wall Vault Armory Kit

https://preview.redd.it/62locdsoh8sc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8b021b89a0ecbedb9c52baab96b06d28a2e3abe6

🔗Secure 8-Gun Steel Double Door Cabinet for Easy Wall Mounting

The safe should be large enough to store the guns but not so large that it becomes a target for theft.

https://preview.redd.it/6dd831ewh8sc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2c52bb10fe59c21697e39d353c6bc7f4de4670e8

2024.04.02 02:00 ricardo52 Another ADT Horror (somewhat amusing) Story - LONG

The local security service I was with for 7 years was bought out by ADT. All the Honeywell equipment was purchased by me at install. A couple days ago I got yet ANOTHER price update email from ADT and decided I'd had enough, so called another company - we'll call them Company B, who confirmed they could use the Honeywell equipment I already have.
So today Company B shows up, swaps out the cellular module and tests the entire system. Everything tested A-OK. While he was completing the registration and testing I logged into MyADT and initiated a chat session (there's no link for cancelling service - no surprise). After going back and forth for 20 minutes, with offers including lowering the rate by $5 a month, I insisted I wanted to cancel. The chat person advised me he couldn't do the cancellation and that someone would call me to cancel at 2pm
No call at 2, no call at 2:30, so at 3:00 I called the number he'd given me. After going through the IVR system and sitting on hold for a few minutes, I got an agent. Who after verifying I was who I said I was, also gave me the hard sell. But I insisted. She put me on hold and 15-20 minutes later, the call dropped.
Called back at 3:38, got another agent and after the verification process (just had a thought - if the systems were down, how were they verifying I owned the account?) was told their systems were down, please call back later. OK... At 4:30 I called back, got ANOTHER agent, who after going through the verification process, said their systems were "updating, please call tomorrow".
6:00pm rolls around and I'm making burgers for dinner. Cell phone rings, and it is ADT. New agent goes through verification, asks what I had called in about, and proceeded to offer the $5 off, 70% discount on new equipment, etc. I insisted. She THEN said - and this is where it starts to get amusing - that her records showed I have 3 smoke detectors, which were "owned by ADT and wouldn't work with any other company". She offered to sell me a fire monitoring service for... I cut her off and said no thanks. She put me on hold for about 10 minutes and when she came back, she said "OK, we'll terminate the service, but you need to know that all your equipment will stop working and you will not be able to arm the system and it won't report fires or break-ins".
I started to explain to her that the system is owned by me and no longer in communication with ADT so no way for them to disable it, but just said "Whatever - cancel the service NOW". She said it would be up to a month for them to disconnect things.
I can see non-technical people falling for this BS and scrambling to restore their ADT service. What a slimy approach to customer retention - makes me even MORE happy to be rid of them.

2024.04.01 22:59 Glittahsparkles DSC HS2032 Showing No Zones Exists After Resetting To Factory Default

We have an auto shop that is set up with a DSC HS2032 system, with two motion sensors:Bosch ISC-PDL1-W18G and OPTEX CX-702. We have 8 zones (doors) with honeywell sensors. 4 of them being the large metal ones that bolt to the floor because they are bay doors. The others are all honeywell magnetic sensors. One motion sensor and one door sensor have been added to the HSM2108 module because we have an add-on building. The Bosch motion detector is wired to that module.
A disgruntled employee quit and I changed the alarm code. A customer came in right as I had changed the code and I wasn't able to remember it after dealing with his vehicle. Anyways, I did a complete default factory reset, and after that it shows that no zones exist. I did disable TLM and changed the time/date. I fixed all issues that show up when you enter *2.

Now, when I go to the test zones function, it says "zone 1 does not exist" same goes for 2-8.
I've done a system default, the kind you can do from the keypad which did not fix the issue. I did a factory reset again, fixed all error codes and still no luck. It just says no zones exist.
I don't think the keypad is communicating with the main board because it does not show up in any of the listed modules. The only confirmed module is the keypad.
It asks me to confirm modules: HSM2208, HSMHOST, HSM2955, HSM2300, HSM2204 And HSM2108.
When I try to confirm HSM2108 (what I believe is the add-on building board, it says Zone Exp. 1 but it won't confirm. I've pressed the * key and a bunch of combinations of two digit numbers. The Zone Exp goes from 01-15. None of which confirm.

Here's pictures of the boards and other alarm stuff. Please help, I'm so lost at this point. I feel like I've tried everything.
https://imgur.com/a/5LkrJPU
I guess I wasn't clear. I have gone through the programming steps, where I'm stuck at is the error message "NO ZONES EXIST". Sorry everyone, saw in the about community that "We're a place to get help with and discuss all topics relating to home security. All topics from beginner questions to help with your esoteric GE panel from 1989 are welcome!"

2024.04.01 21:36 Cool-Recognition-571 I've always been curious about what happens in Mech E. interviews (and other engg. disciplines)

I've been on many interviews for web development jobs. There's usually a verbal part where they ask you questions to test your knowledge of CS fundamentals, C#/Java/PHP fundamentals, AngulaReact concepts, AWS/Azure basics, database design, Javascript closures, etc etc. I do well on this part.
Then, at halfway-decent firms, there's almost definitely at least a 1-hour-long coding exercise following the verbal part, and sometimes longer like 90 min. It's either on a whiteboard with interviewers watching, or in an empty office room, alone at a computer. I HATEHATEHATE this part, and have often bombed it to hell. God, I've screwed up the coding parts of interviews so many times 😩🥺🥺.
See, I can't think so clearly and write the most efficient/elegant solution to a problem (or multiple problems) when I'm literally under the gun of an hour time limit.......and if seasoned software engineers are watching me do it, that makes it tenfold harder!! I do my best but it's usually a subpar or mediocre solution. That's why I could probably never land a programming job at a FAANG corporation. Now, if they give me a whole application to code up front-to-back, and a whole day and night to finish it and upload to GitHub, now THAT I can most likely ace with flying colors. If I get two days, even better!!
So I've always been extremely curious, what are mechanical engineer interviews like, at good, coveted companies like GE, Honeywell, HP, Aurora Flight, Sikorsky Aircraft, etc? Is it all just Q&A about your past work projects and core engineering concepts? Do they also make you design something moderately complex in AutoCAD, or solve several whiteboard dynamics/thermo/fluids problems, under a time constraint? I could ask this question of Electrical, Chemical and Aerospace engineers too.
Man oh man, if all you gotta do to land the job is ace Q&A for an ME/EE/AE interview, I gotta say you guys are So. Fucking. Lucky.

2024.04.01 09:52 Any_Spring9526 3 port valve issue

Hi, I’m having some issues with a newly installed Samsung Gen 6 5kw ASHP. In short I’m loosing around 10C from the hot water overnight. It’s also not reaching the disinfection temp and throwing an error code every week. The installers have been back and replaced the 3 port valve, (as it was sending 60C through my radiators!) but I’ve a feeling they don’t really know what they’re doing with it. It looks like they’ve installed another, but the correct way round. It now appears that the CH flow is passing through the coil constantly, so cooling the water. It also means I’m struggling to get my DT below about 3C (as the tank is dumping some heat back into the flow). This sounds like the opposite of what it was doing, so it’s now the correct way round, but still stopping in the mid position Does anyone know how to ensure the Honeywell 3 port never stops in its mid position? Is it as simple as jumping terminals 17 and 18 or am I over simplifying?
Thanks in advance for your help

2024.03.27 22:05 kurai01 Class Action against ADT

Hey legal advice, long time lurker first time caller, I am not familiar with nor do I know if I have grounds for it so I'm here to ask about class action lawsuits and what you think of this situation.
TL;DR ADT refuses to factory reset the codes for the hardware I own outright and are locking me out of full control over MY security system.
The Background:
I'd like some advice on a potential class action lawsuit against ADT Security. To give you the context, I am a power user of my computers and hardware in my home. I used to have ADT services and cancelled them about a year ago. Recently however I have gotten big into home automation and discovered I can hook the hardware I now own outright to my Home Assistant server.
While trying to setup the connection between the panel and my personal server. I discovered the setting to do so is locked behind what's called a dealer code. Unfortunately and rightly so due to security concerns there is no way to factory reset my panel from the panel itself so I can have a default dealer code. Per the panel manufacturer "Only the dealer who owns and has direct access to the alarm.com account of the panel can reset installedealeuser codes remotely. Alarm.com accounts cannot be terminated by Qolsys or any other 3rd party besides the dealer who owns the panel's account."
So, I've since reactivated my ADT account because I can't get new codes pushed without an active account but ADT refuses to do so. I'm basically stuck in this horrible catch-22 where I can't change the code without ADT even though I outright own my devices but if I cancel my service I can't get a new code pushed. They think I keep trying to get them to give me THEIR dealer code but I don't want it at all. All I want is to reset that code to the default.
Is there any merit to my claims here? I feel like it kinda goes against the Right to Repair legislation where I live since I can't access every setting of the hardware I own. I also feel like I'm being extorted to have an active account since there's no other way to change the default codes.

Aster and the Sa Aterro Tomb (Part One)

“He requested to see you.”
I sat in Quint’s office across from the man. “Well I don’t want to see him,” I replied. “I really feel we dealt with him already.”
I felt like the former Company agent had been dealt with.
He’d attempted to destroy magic itself- he’d invaded the little secret town we were in, Ogland Bridge and occupied it with a small Company legion.
The Company- a nefarious organization that hunted, captured, and stored away the strange- to destroy magic completely. Unfortunately destroying the ether itself would have also killed many connected to it.
So Quint had gathered a small group of us to attend Canopy’s ritual to summon an ancient god which would be under his control, a god which could take and give ether at will.
The Company’s top brass were there- but after we were done, most had been eaten by a very angry Alcyon or apprehended by the good people of Ogland Bridge.
We interrogated them- Quint recruited a great many into our work, reconnecting them with the earth and helping them see magic was not the propaganda-given evil they all believed.
Canopy and many of the other high brass refused to cooperate. And many underlings, agents of the Company, still believed in their old ways, and so we kept them in a makeshift center-turned-prison.
Canopy was one of many who refused to change. “He says your presence is necessary if we all want to live freely.”
“Empty threats,” I assumed, speaking my mind. “The Company’s scattered, Quint. They can’t do anything anymore.”
He ruffled through his hair. “I’m afraid the Company is a lot more united than we think,” he informed. I raised an eyebrow, curious. “Many top brass went to the ritual we stopped here- but many remain out there. And-” he found a photograph of an older woman with a wicked grin, “Kimber Manson seems to have united a distinct amount of Company Remnant.
Remnant was the term we used for rogue agents of the Company. We’d encountered several former Company teams and outposts using the artifacts they gathered for nefarious purposes.
“So Canopy’s offering up information on her?” I asked. “I remember she was there at the ritual. Lends her credit.”
He nodded. “We can only hope.”
“I’ll see him,” I agreed.
There’s been a company that’s been there since the first spirits rose from the dead. There, when the first monsters rose to terrorize the weak. There, when first alchemists developed the art of enchanting.
Their network of warehouses, agents, and outposts expanded as the centuries passed. In the old days, nobles sponsored them. Now, senators and congressmen.
They’ve kept the world ‘safe’ for thousands of years. Their methods of recovering artifacts and punishing the wrong hands have been carefully developed. They fight the black market, swearing an oath to lock all the bizarre away.
Too bad it was all a lie.
My name is Aster Mills. I’ve fought and dismantled the Company- but many remain out there, using the cursed artifacts they collect for malice. For evil.
Canopy sat across from me, hands chained together, symbols etched into the chains. A preventative measure against any etheric escape attempts.
“Canopy,” I whispered, sitting down. Quint and another Wanderer, young, still learning- Fern stood behind me. “What do you want.”
He smiled weakly. “Distinct information. Saving the world type activity,” he began. “But they-” Canopy pointed at Quint, who made a face, and Fern, “leave.”
“He may try something,” Quint murmured.
“I’ll only speak to Aster,” Canopy insisted. “But if you insist- the woman can stay.” Quint whispered something to Fern, and promptly left. “An eye for Quint. Though I assume there are cameras watching me. Listening. Shall we converse in Adkiri?
I was taken aback, confused. I didn’t speak the language- an ancient, old thing spoken by the now-extinct Adyr Peoples.
I wasn’t in the language department. This boggled me. “You don’t speak that?” I confusedly commented.
We’d gotten a list of languages when we’d apprehended the man to ensure he wouldn’t send a coded message.
He smiled. “Prisoner’s Library,” he informed. “Your mayor boy Theo is always going on about rehabilitating the prisoners. Managed to get on book-stacking duty and snagged it.” This was true. “I know you and Quint don’t speak it. But her-” he pointed at Fern, “you do.”
“Is this true?” I asked. Fern was a native to the hidden ether-studious town.
She nodded. “I learned it. It was one of my essays for the research team.”
Adkiri was an old, songlike language. Any listening device would simply cease to pick it up- every word the ancient Adyr spoke was laced in light magic, enough to short out our listening bugs.
I knew he wasn’t going to back away from it- I could sense it in his bones. “Let’s converse,” I decided. I served the Divine Whale- Adkiri was derived from Whaletongue; the ancient Adyr served it as well.
“Good,” Canopy murmured. He spoke in the ancient tongue now, jarring yet melodious to my ears. I supposed this was a way to get back at Quint for apphrending him. “Let’s talk about Sa Aterro.
The name seemed familiar. But distant. “What?” I inquired, confused, in english. “Like Sa Nago?
He shook his head. “Speak in Whaletongue,” he insisted. “I understand it. And yes-” he attempted to make a motion, then remembered his hands were shackled, “just like Sa Nago. And Sa Inadis, on that matter.”
“What’s Sa Inadis?” Fern inquired. I didn’t know it either- I was only familiar with a handful of the Sa citadels.
“Sa Inadis is not of today’s concern.” Canopy murmured something under his breath. “But, provided we survive the next week I’m sure Sa Inadis will come up again.”
I thought of my own research and experiences on the matter.
Sa was the ancient Adyr word for fortress, citadel, and the places themselves had large, dangerous citadels in the center of them, guarding objects of extreme and powerful dissonance.
Sa Nago was rumored to be an ancient labyrinth with a very ancient Yago Tree in the center, one so old the divine fruit could not only extend life- but make oneself immortal.
We didn’t have much research on Sa Aterro. A Company 7 workforce had gotten to an archeological site before Theo could.
There were many things about the Adyr People Theo’s archeological teams and researches were only starting to uncover.
“So what about Sa Aterro,” Fern brought up, taking a seat next to me. “What’s so important you’re only telling us now?”
Canopy smiled, ruffling back his hair. “A month before you defeated me I had been assigned to a rather strange archeological site,” he began. “We found a mass grave out in the Pacific Northwest- not human remains-”
“Adyr,” I concluded. I was aware of this- Theo had had his sights on it before the Company overtook it. “What did you find?”
“It was a Temple,” he continued, still speaking that strange melodic language. “A sect of the Adyr peoples that worshiped a deity other than the whale.”
Fern twitched. “We always thought they might’ve worshiped other gods,” she noted.
Our prisoner nodded along. “I personally led the first response team into the Temple. There were automata within it- gears brought to life through ancient magic.”
“That’s impossible,” I cut in. “Automata do not last that long.”
“Oh it’s possible alright- they were made from gears- and bone. We recruited the magician Quincy Kieni to explore and disable the traps, and I was able to retrieve an artifact- pages that were warm to the touch. Pages that read nonsense.”
“Nonsense?” I raised. “Let’s get to the part where you tell us where Sa Aterro is, and what’s inside.”
He muttered something incomprehensible. “It was a burning book. We were able to read it after using a particularly powerful Depths artifact and read it. And then we had to bring it a blood sacrifice- only then would it reveal its words.”
“Get to the point,” I snapped.
“Yes, yes.” He was being slow to bother us. “The book contained information on a place called Sa Aterro- the Citadel of the Meteor. Let’s cut long story short- there’s an ancient city deep underground somewhere where the Adyr people hid a powerful artifact. And I’ve heard whispers, see. Kimber Manson going full Contingency plan soon.”
Contingency plan?” I questioned. “And whispers?”
“In the event of the deaths or capture of many Company Seven directors,” he recited, almost mockingly, “any remaining leaders will assemble under the highest ranking officer and begin a coordinated strike against world governments and restore peace to the world.” He nodded to my second point. “There are many things you don’t know about me. I have my ways of developing information.”
Fern gasped. I could hardly believe it. Fern spoke next, “Doesn’t that seem a bit too far?”
“Well we never expected to have all our eggs in one basket.” Canopy shrugged. “And the world government thing is more than a suggestion. The weapon described in the book tells us it’s able to instantaneously destroy any location, provided it receives enough energy.”
I realized what this meant. “She’s going to target us. Ogland Bridge.”
Canopy nodded. “And I really don’t feel like dying.”
“So where’s Sa Aterro?” Fern interrogated. “And how can we trust you?”
Canopy did something with his lips. “Good question.” I blinked at him puzzledly. “We were in the middle of deciphering that before I discovered the Ether King ritual, the one where I was going to kill you and remove magic forever?”
I remembered it very distinctly. After all, he’d strapped me to a metal pole and forced me to watch it. “If you don’t have the location-”
“Ah-” he interjected, “while I don’t have the location of Sa Aterro- I know exactly where the data is being held. Clandestine Company Outpost thirty alpha-salamander delta.”
Damn- it was a clandestine outpost. We’d recovered the locations of all their standard warehouses and outposts- but not their top secret buildings. “So tell us,” I insisted.
“How about no!” he laughed. “I’ve gotten quite bored of Lousiana. How about I take you and-” he nodded at the woman beside me, “Fern here on an adventure. We’re on the same side now, yes?”
“You tried to remove the ether!” I reminded. “That would’ve killed thousands connected to the other side!”
He shrugged. “We all make mistakes. Besides- I can’t go back to the Comapny anyway. They’d Banshee Protocol me.”
I turned to Fern for advice. Sure she was new, but I needed a second opinion. “Banshee Protocol,” she repeated. The Company instituted brainwashing for rebelling or agents with a track record for failing. “I think we can trust him on that.”
And losing a big portion of their top brass- and failing to do their endgame ritual was something that definitely necessitated punishment.
“I still believe magic is no good for the world,” he added. “Creates a divide between those who can see the other side and those who can’t. But I feel it dying away already.”
This was true.
Something had shifted in the world. The ether was dying out- forests were falling to loggers- the ocean grew corrupted with plastic. Nature and the ether were nearly one.
Admittedly- “He’s right,” I concluded. “Whether the Company has any influence or not: the ether is dying already.”
“So you can trust me. I don’t want to die any more than you do.”
I thought about it. Fern had a better answer. “Let’s talk to our boss.” Canopy sighed meekly and shrugged in defeat.
We walked outside and headed into Quint’s office. We peered through a little class window and he saw us. He was on a video call with an ally- Julian Page on other, other pressing matters.
He saw us, smiled, and motioned for us to wait.
So we sat in a little sitting room opposite his office.
Fern picked at her nails. “Aster, is it true?” she asked.
“What?” I replied.
“Would his ritual really have killed us all?”
I shrugged. Nobody knew for sure. But the feeling of nothingness I’d felt that close to the ritual- that was terrifying. “I don’t know.”
“I don’t want the ether to die,” she murmured. “I’ve lived here studying it all my life. It’s all I’ve ever known.”
“I don’t want it to die either,” I confessed.
She seemed nervous about something. Odd- I’d always thought of her as confident- in the field she was an asset, and her projects and essays were always top of the class.
But she finally spit it out. “Do you think the Family has a point?”
“I don’t know,” I murmured. I thought back to last week’s excursion. “Maybe.”
Quint opened the door and let us in.
We spoke on it for a while, discussing the situation. “My problem,” Quint said at last, “is that he may use this as a chance to escape.”
Fern had a plan. “The bracelets we recovered off of the Koekeux Monument,” she theorized, “were used to link two people- what one feels, so does the other.” She thought a bit more. “We haven’t found a way to break. Only way in and out is by key. And he can’t travel more than five hundred meters without falling into a coma.”
“Alright, I’ll greenlight this,” Quint concluded. “I trust you can sort out who gets to be connected. I assume he only wants you two with him.”
He would. Fern was only a bystander, really, so I opted to share the bracelet.
We informed Canopy of our decision, activated the artifact and Quint set us up with a tracking spell, in case we required assistance.
With that and a prepaid card we were off.
Half a day later we’d arrived in the middle of nowhere, somewhere deep in Utah. There was desert all around us, and a small town that seemed empty but for a row of old houses and a little fancy looking restaurant in the center of town.
It looked too fancy.
We entered and took a booth, a curtain separating us from the rest of the place.
A waiter came by. “I’d like to see Gerry, please,” Canopy ordered.
The waiter sighed. “Everyone wants to see Gerry. Nobody wants to see Tom.”
A moment later a middle aged woman came by. “What would you like to order?”
“Crush Soda and a side of starfruit.” She nodded, and shut the curtains. A moment later gears started whirring and we sunk into the earth. “Funny thing is that they actually sell that.”
The platform stopped and the elevator doors opened, revealing the clandestine Company outpost.
A winding hall faced us now, curving and branching out. “How large is the place?” Fern inquired.
“Not very. There are two points of entry- here,” and then our double agent pointed down the hall, “and one on the opposite side.” I asked him where we were going to go next. “I ran the imaging team here- I suspect they’ll still keep it in the Research Lab.”
He began to lead us now. “How do you know it’ll still be here?”
“I put a Runespeak Code on the Research Lab that only I know,” he revealed. “It was supposed to take them more than a year to break it. In case something like this happened- but my sources told me they were close to cracking it.”
We passed by two Company soldiers, who passed us by without much interference. “Where are you getting your sources from?”
“A magician never-” we turned a corner, “-whoa!” and Canopy stopped us.
Fern bumped into me. “Why’d we stop?”
He motioned for me to come over. I did, and we peered over and a saw a man in a tight suit and a streak of gray in sharp black hair on the phone. “It’s Ambassador Dane. No wonder they’re close to breaking the code.” Canopy sucked in air. “And he definitely never liked me.”
The Research Lab lay ahead of us. “He’ll recognize you?” Fern commented.
Canopy nodded. “And you, Aster,” he murmured. “But not her.”
We looked at Fern. She shrugged. “Canopy- if you give her the code.” He nodded and whispered something in her ear.
She went over, nodding to the man, who ignored her. A moment passed. Tense. Soldiers passed us. Canopy hid his face.
Fern came back. “Your safe isn’t in there.”
“Damn it!” Canopy snapped. He turned and walked over to a little screen on the wall and began to type. “Always knew I’d need that backdoor.” A moment later he brought up a file. “They’ve moved it to the Sanctum.”
“Sanctum?” I asked.
He flipped to its floor plan. Circular, surrounded with five viewing platforms into small holding environments for captured beasts, artifacts, and monsters. “Its the premier lab here. Study on magic.”
We continued to walk briskly- the more we acted like we knew what we were doing, the safer we’d be.
We arrived at the Sanctum and Canopy located the book.
It was in a small sphere that floated off a round table under shielded glass. A technician typed in controls and a mechanical arm shot a laser at the magical shielding covering it, drilling in sigils and signs. Another spoke through a microphone, attempting to break the voicelock.
Canopy eyed the door controls on the room. Two doors. I noted this. He noted the four technicians studying within the room. “I’ll take the two at the controls. The door lock code is Alphadromeus.”
I nodded. “Let’s do it.”
I walked over to the other door and shut it. The technician closest to me looked up. At the center, Canopy greeted the two, then quickly put a hand to the closest’s forehead- and he fell to the ground.
The other reached for a pistol but Canopy uttered a spell and the gun melted. He then sent a fist right to her face, knocking her out. He whispered something, keeping them both unconscious.
I surprised the technician near me- finding a sharp pin and piercing it through her clothes. She fell asleep immediately.
Fern locked the door and dealt with the last one, uttering a quick spell and draining the man out of energy, until he was weak enough to cast a sleep spell.
Canopy worked at the controls, and the mechanical arm brought the orb that shielded the book out. “My sweet summer child,” he murmured. “What have they done to you.”
He spoke to it, and the orb energy shield fell away, revealing the book. He flipped through the pages. “Sa Aterro.” I peered over. He read the coordinates, inscribed in the strange ancient speech. “That’s also in Oregon. I’m pretty sure that’s under Mount-”
And then the lights went off, save for the seven viewing stations, where seven strange creatures prowled, angry.
The lights went red and a hissing began emanating from the domed ceiling. “That doesn’t sound very good,” Fern warned. A gaseous thing began to erupt from the vents.
“A paralytic,” Canopy hissed. “I had it installed all over the facility for, well, things like this.”
A voice cracked over the intercom. “Canopy Hydrangea!” a voice announced, condescending in a strange, religious kind of way. “Aren’t you supposed to be in an Ogland Bridge prison right now?”
“Uh, good question!” Canopy replied. “See, uh, I,” he wasn’t very good at lying, “recruited these two on my side we’re just going to be leaving now to take them to the Main Office.”
“And where’s the Main Office?” the voice- Ambassador Dane’s boomed.
“In the middle of the Pacific Ocean?” Canopy managed.
The gas continued to hiss. “You’ve failed and betrayed the Company, Canopy,” Dane declared. “I sensed your presence the moment you entered. At least you opened the book for us. I’ll let the paralytic take you- Chairwoman Manson will be seeing you.”
Canopy set his hands ablaze. “I’ll destroy the book!”
Dane laughed cruelly. “Our new artificial intelligence system has already deciphered the location the moment you took it out.” I noted a set of cameras at the far end of the room. “It’s simple paratechnology.”
The intercom crackled away. “Uh oh,” Canopy murmured.
“What now?” Fern pointed out. I sighed in deep annoyance.
Canopy walked over to one of the glass exhibits and pressed his hands against the glass. It shattered, and three strange foxes with antlers stumbled out, barely acknowledging him.
I walked over. “What are you doing?”
He felt the rocks on the floor and removed one, revealing a ladder. “I always knew this would come in handy,” he murmured. Behind us, the twin doors opened, and Company soldiers began entering the room, rifles outstretched. “We better go.”
He hopped in, then Fern, and then me.
The boulder shut- but not before the agents were onto us. We quickly reached a dark, cramped hallway. Above us, they banged against the shielded trapdoor.
“I always have contingencies,” Canopy assured. “Even in your own domain.”
We walked over to a ladder and began to climb it. Behind us, agents entered the dimly lit secret hall. “They’re coming,” Fern jittered.
We rose up and Canopy removed a trapdoor, revealing the middle of the fancy restaurant we’d just come from. Patrons shouted and looked confused and we clambered out.
And then a voice from behind us. “Stop where you are!”
We turned and stared down the barrel of a gun. “Gerry!” Canopy laughed. “You know me. Right? I’m just testing our new security-”
“I knew you were him. You looked a little too similar to be someone else,” she snarled. She looked over at the book. “Hand it over.”
“Let me think about it,” Canopy began, ruffling his hair. “No.”
And then everyone but Canopy screamed in terror as the gun fired. And the bullet stopped in mid air, returning back to the gun. “Everyone always forgets I was involved with the whole God of Time paradox.”
Gerry looked at her gun, confused. Fern took the opportunity to send a well earned punch to the face- and she fell, dazed.
Canopy seized her gun and uttered a spell. She fell asleep. “Now let’s get the hell to Oregon and get whatever’s in there before they do.”
And then we walked out of the restaurant, hailed a cab and took a flight to Oregon.
Author Notes:
Don't worry- Child of Grain is on schedule! This chapter's a bit more lighthearted and less ideologically insane. A little something for everyone.

2024.03.20 01:59 New_Advice7546 Issues wiring MTS200

I am reposting a question from a different thread. Hopefully I can get some help here!
Some background: I was able to successfully perform the transition of 2 other CT10Bs to MTS200. The third one, however, has a weird wiring situation going on and I don't understand it…
This setup currently works just fine with the Honeywell tstat:
Current Honewell L1 (top, black) -> Single L1 (black) T1 (bottom, black) -> 2 load bundle (black) L2 (top, red) -> Single neutral (white) T2 (bottom, red) -> 2 neutral bundle (white)
On the MTS200, I tried this:
Failed MTS200 L2 (top, red) -> 3 neutrals (white) L1 (middle, black) -> Single L1 (black) Load (bottom, back) -> 3 load bundle (black)
Photos for reference: https://imgur.com/a/gTmKldW
After wiring the MTS200 as described above and switching the breaker back on the thermostat did not light up at all, but when I checked the baseboard heater it was getting 120 on each receiving wires (white and black). Worth noting that together they wouldn't register more than a couple of volts instead of 240. Is that what's expected? After a couple of tests I removed the MTS200 and replaced the Honeywell matching the original wiring described above. Tstat and baseboard work as intended. What am I missing? Will this thermostat work in this situation?
