2024.05.07 20:23 For_a_Better_Life Will I have any recourse for potential dental malpractice?

I'm a bit worried my dentist is going to take advantage of a situation he may have caused. So here is what happened.
On the right side of my mouth I apparently had what my dentist called a "kissing cavity" between the upper and lower teeth so in February he performed a filling on both my top and bottom teeth in that area. They were apparently just surface level cavities or rather the start of cavities. Well the filling messed up my bite and was causing me a good bit of pain for 6 weeks post filling with chewing and cold so I went in and he adjusted the bite. Since then I have been sensitive to heat that has gotten worse and worse for no apparent reason. I should state that this issue I apparently had had never once caused me any pain or discomfort or any problem at all until he "fixed" it. I actually have the same "problem" on the same spot on the left side of my mouth, but I honestly feel like this guy is a money grabber. My old dentist retired and this guy is new to me.
But anyway, this morning I woke up and out of nowhere the right side of my mouth is unusable. Anything that touches it whether hot or cold causes a shockwave of pain immediately. It has never been this bad as the heat intolerance I had was manageable. I had an appointment for the 17th of May to correct the issue I am still having four months post filling but had to call this morning and say something is going to have to be done sooner. I am still waiting to hear back. Also, I am currently a week into a round of antibiotics. I am on Cephalexin because of an ingrown toenail I stupidly tried to cut out myself but that is neither here nor there.
But, would this pain still have the possibility to be an abscess that would require a root canal? And would I have any recourse or ability to fight payment for this procedure that appears to be a result of his malpractice? I can't imagine a surface cavity filling resulting in this type of outcome for months unless a mistake was made. I'm a religious toothbrusher and flosser and have never had any issues with my teeth at all until this guy got in there and did this.
I guess I am just looking for any potential reason this pain may have surfaced so intensely all of a sudden while I am actively on antibiotics and if I have any ability to fight him charging me 1k plus for a procedure that is likely the result of his mistake? Please any help is appreciated.

2024.05.07 20:09 StrandedInACrowd The hallucinations are getting worse

“The hallucinations have been getting better, I think. They still show up from time to time and they still feel just as real…” The faint scratching of graphite on paper filled the dead air, Dr. Mendoza not looking up as he scribbled away. The large “HealthyMinds Psychiatry” logo plastered across the top being the only discernible words from my seat across the stuffy office room. My eyes wandered as they always seemed to do, finding anything that could briefly focus my brain away from its usual chaos. A filing cabinet, a mug filled with more pens than one would ever use, a medical degree proudly hung above a depressing sofa most likely picked up cheap from a secondhand retailer.
“Well, Mr. Stevens…” His voice snapped me back to attention as he continued writing. “Progress is a good sign. This is just the initial dosage to get you acclimated, you won’t start seeing solid results for some time. How have the side effects been?”
“Fine. I think. I guess I don’t really notice them.” I was lying, of course. The brain fog and dizziness that were promised certainly delivered, but they were more than manageable if it meant relief. Any kind of relief.
“Well, if that’s the case then I don’t see any issue with upping your dosage. Are you still using the same pharmacy in your file?” He was clearly just as ready to go home as I was. The usual wrapping up followed as we both put on our best show of manners in front of hidden exhausted resignation, seemingly unable to get away from that awful sofa fast enough.
Ascending the many flights of stairs up to the 6th floor, the distant harmony of police sirens accompanied my echoing steps, the white paper pharmacy bag gripped tightly as if it might be stolen, whisked away by someone hoping to get high off antipsychotics. Faint noises and shadows followed me as they often do, brushing across my peripheral trying to get my attention. Had this been months earlier I would have obliged them much to my faltering sanity, but I had been growing accustomed to them with each passing day. The little ones, the ones just at the edge of my vision that so feebly feign tangibility have long since lost their bite. It’s the big ones, the ones that blur the lines of reality, the ones sent by Satan himself to torment me that force me out of the safety of my apartment to that dreary shrink office. A safety that I found myself rushing to, the dim flickering lighting of the long hallway provided adequate habitat for tall figures, figures with human bodies stretched from the floor to the ceiling, wrapping up and around the corner so they could watch me from above.
They watched as I fumbled with my keys, fanning through them to find the one to salvation. I can feel them staring, I know they’re smiling because they know I’m afraid. With the lock flicking and the door opening, I could feel them brushing up against the back of my neck as I slammed it shut behind me, the click of the deadbolt sending a rush of relief. It never matters if I know they’re not real, my brain does a great job at making them real enough.
The apartment is small, but small is good. Small means efficient, it means closeness. Small means less space for dark corners to house tall figures. Rapidly throwing off my winter coat, it settled in its usual spot slumped over the faded green loveseat. One of the few relics of the past that didn't bother me with its presence, a moving gift from my parents to celebrate finally ridding myself from their daily lives. It was actually quite comfortable, having earned the right to stay but more truthfully it served the purpose of being some form of contrast; The apartment was a drab gray furnished with brown wooden tables and chairs, admittedly picked up cheap at…well, a secondhand retailer. The seat was the only thing of any real color, a lone faded green in a sea of brown and gray.
The apartment is safe, or at least I made it safe; An eclectic mix of various light sources found permanent fixtures in every corner of the living space. Each with their own manual switches keeping them illuminated until the valiant bulb inevitably needed replacing, having dutifully kept the forces of dark at bay and thus preventing those tall figures taking refuge in my sanctuary. Years ago I would have chuckled at the idea of me, a six foot tall 200 pound man, setting up night lights. Indeed, I did chuckle at the thought of doing it until my first time experiencing one.
Two months and six days ago. Four months and 18 days after my initial diagnosis. My usual routine, essentially on autopilot by that point. Home from work, deadbolt click, sweatshirt tossed haphazardly over the faded green loveseat. The only light illuminating the apartment came from the small desk lamp flanking me as I walked into the living area, the windows covered by those gray shades even had it not been late evening. My autopilot quickly ceased soon after noticing something. Something tall. Whatever it was, it seemed perfectly shaped to fit the slithering darkness covering the walls opposite me. Twisting and curving so disgustingly, it blended in almost perfectly with the blackness, but I knew it was there. It knew that I knew. I just stood, frozen with a primordial fear that few ever experience, the kind of fear when you know you're about to die. Not a muscle on my body dared attempt to flee as I tried to study what was in front of me, trying desperately to make out its shape. Was that its head? Or was it the part stretched up across the ceiling? Those are hands. Are those hands? Was it smiling at me?
After some amount of time that I've yet to remember, I think hours but maybe seconds, I felt it move. Even minutely, it sent my body into panic as I lurched my entire mass in the opposite direction, towards my shut bedroom door. I turned the knob and slammed it shut behind me faster than I thought dexterously possible as I felt it touch the back of my neck, a feeling I would grow sickeningly familiar with. I didn't sleep a single second, my brain working overtime to rationalize that it was all just a hallucination, just like the doctors said I would have. The only thing making it impossible was its eyes. They glowed a deep gray with a real tangibility to them, they existed, even as I stared right back into them. When morning broke through the cracks of the shades, it was not much longer that a terrified phone call had me back at HealthyMinds Psychiatry weeks earlier than anticipated. The thought of setting up night lights no longer had me chuckling.
The severity of any given episode varies considerably and often seems to correlate with my stress levels, but this is by no means a rigorous connection. Surprise visits from an unwanted presence is always a potential, but I like to think that I’ve been getting better at managing them. Or more accurately I need to think that I am. I can't entertain the possibility of a life where everyday is like this, everyday forcing my body to function normally as I perform my daily routine to an audience. An audience that hates me, that feeds off knowing that I’m afraid and barely keeping myself from total collapse. My movements change, my body language shifting ever so imperceptibly to notice but they know what to look for. As I tell myself to relax knowing full well the razor wire I stand on, that voice in the back of my head mocks me for my abysmal performance. “Do you really think you’re fooling anyone? You’re going to be okay, is that right? You know you won't make it. If you were okay, you wouldn't need to tell yourself, you know you're falling.”
I have been getting better, at least a little, because of one particular emotion that I can turn to when it gets bad- Anger. Anger distracts me from the fear and I don't even need to feign a performance. The anger of my lost sanity, my lost family, my lost friends, my lost safety. When the fear gets too much to handle, my brain, almost automatically at this point, focuses the anger towards my guest. I stare and rush forward with the primal anger of an animal defending its young, a primal anger that shuts down the part of your brain that tells you to run. I lash, I swing, I scream with a guttural ferocity that would certainly put me in an inpatient facility; A large man, growling and tearing at the empty air as if to kill a ghost.

I screamed. I exploded up from my sleeping position, practically throwing my hand at the switch that pulled me from hell back to safety. Sheets and tshirt saturated with sweat, I held myself gasping for air as I awaited my heart rate to relax itself. The glowing red 3:28 across the room provided no additional comfort knowing work was a mere 4 hours away. I knew to expect frequent and worsening nightmares, a bonus symptom I learned first hand when starting the new medication months ago, and so it was only natural it would happen again on a higher dosage. My head drooped, letting my hands attempt to massage away the thumping headache when my attention was cut short- A noise. More accurately, noises.
Hallucinations of course very often include additional senses, and sound was never a favorite of mine. With sight, it's at least possible to quickly determine its existence, or lack thereof. Not sound. I couldn't simply tell myself that the faint sound of a door shutting softly through the thin walls was my imagination, nor the faint creaking of wood slowly but unmistakably getting closer. Closer still until it found itself coincidentally outside my bedroom door, just a few feet from where I stood, the cold and firm touch of metal being my only comfort as I held the bat steady at my side.
I don't do well with suspense, not anymore at least. I found that my increasingly fatigued sanity has grown rather tired of waiting, tired of hiding and hoping it would just leave me alone, replaced instead by the somewhat self destructive allure of anger and hatred. If it's going to kill me, why not get it over with sooner, which is precisely why I ripped the door open and swung, a noise somewhere between a roar and a shout escaping my mouth as I felt contact. A solid, wet thud, followed by a collapse. Laying there in front of me, a mass of darkness conveniently shaped to fit the slithering shadows of the unlit hallway. Letting the bat fall to my side, a flick of a light switch would finish off the kill as yellow fire cleansed away the evidence, revealing a barren wood floor. Content with a successful hunt, I carried myself to the fridge; I wasn't going to be falling back to sleep.

The week passed with me barely perceiving it, days often blended together with the monotonous droning of a job so soul crushing I almost wished for one of my visitors to inject some emotion into the workday. They never did; it would seem that the rows of dull gray cubicles were too much even for demons of torment.
Only briefly did I acknowledge the start of the weekend before collapsing in bed the minute I got home. Fridays were always the worst, flooded with everything that needed to be done before the weekend.
Like clockwork, I again found myself leaping awake, the familiar dampness saturating my shirt and bedsheets. Weekends were a blessing, being awoken at four in the morning mattered little when I could collapse back in bed without worry of an alarm greeting me. My body lurched out of bed on autopilot as I looked for a pair of dry clothes to replace sweat soaked ones that now found themselves tossed across the floor. The cold breeze of air flow sent a shiver down my exposed body. Was it always this cold? I don't remember turning the AC on higher…although to be fair I don't remember much before I collapsed in bed.
I opened the door and stumbled my way through the dark to find something heavier to wear, seeking out the usual spot I always tossed them. Hands reaching out, I felt my sweatshirt and pulled it from its crumpled spot on the purple recliner. Turning back, a very subtle detail managed to grab the attention of my barely conscious mind- A mass, standing just a few meters away. It's looking at me, I know it is. Barely perceptible in the almost pitch darkness, it stood there. Feeding off of my fear, I know it. With the exhaustion of a sleepless week weighing at my emotional control, I did what I know- I leaped forward in absolute rage, a rage that desperately attempted to mask the shuddering terror beneath. I lashed, I clawed, I growled. I felt that familiar wet thud followed by a sickening slumping onto the cold tile floor. As my brain caught up, I looked down to see what I had even grabbed as a weapon during the rush of emotion- A golf club, one that had been leaning on the marble table that I must have reached for automatically. I caught my breath as I closed my eyes, inhaling deeply in an attempt to slow my racing heart. Something interrupted that, however.
A deafening scream let out behind me, which I found strange. My hallucinations usually subside after I confront them.

2024.05.07 20:03 ToncBlonc Wings of Steel. Phantom Within. Chapter 13

Steelblade and Tsunami landed in a forest when they couldn’t spot any seawings. When Steelblade hit the ground, Turtle climbed off of him.
“You didn’t have to do that.” Turtle said.
“We would never have outrun them with how you were falling behind.” Steelblade replied as he formed into his steelwing form. “No offense.” He said as he walked to a nearby river to get a drink.
“None taken.” Turtle said with a worried tone. “I am trying to get more in shape but I just keep finding things to do. Although Qibli says now that I’m with Peril, she’ll get me in shape.” Steelblade stopped drinking from the river and looked at Turtle.
“What in the hell did I miss?” Steelblade asked.
“Me and Peril started dating about a year ago.” Turtle replied, blushing slightly.
“Wasn’t she.”
“In love with Clay?” Tsunami finished Steelblade’s question for him. “He told her she was a sister to him 2 years prior she got with Turtle.” Tsunami explained. Steelblade stood there, surprise the only thing on his face.
“I need to keep up with all this.” Steelblade said after a minute. “I never did get to see her reaction to the skywing artifact Boron and aicesurge gave her.” Steelblade added on. Another artifact that Boron and Icesurge had stolen roughly 3 years ago was one that subdued firescales so they could touch other dragons.
“Ecstatic.” Turtle said with a chuckle. “Never seen her so happy.” He paused before he started blushing again. “Until I said yes to her asking me out.” Tsunami barked a laugh while Steelblade chuckled.
“Well good for you bud.” Steelblade said. “You 2 were close the few times I saw you.” Turtle chuckled nervously as Steelblade scanned the sky.
“Let’s get some rest before we fly the rest of the way to the Academy.” Tsunami suggested. Turtle immediately flopped on the ground in between her and Steelblade, earning a chuckle from Steelblade.
“I’ll stay up a bit longer.” Steelblade said as Tsunami laid down next to her brother. “Make sure no one sneaks up on us.” Tsunami nodded before laying her head on her talons and falling asleep. Steelblade did as he said and stayed up a bit longer on watch.
Steelblade woke up in his room at the restaurant. I have a bad feeling about this. He thought as he got off his bed. Dreams that started in the restaurant never went well. He checked the room his dragonets stayed, nothing. He walked into the main area where he visited with his friends. Nothing. He checked his office. Still nothing. What am I about to find outside? Steelblade thought with a groan. He opened the door to see his family and his crew dead on the ground. But something was off. He was standing over their bodies on the other side of the of them. He was looking at himself, covered in blood.
“This is what will happen, legend.” The spirit’s voice boomed in his head. “You will be the end of your family and friends.”
“Nothing will make me do this!” Steelblade roared at the spirit. “Nothing you can do or say!”
“We’ll see about that.” The spirit boomed again.
“Steelblade. Steelblade!” He jolted awake to Tsunami shaking him. He quickly sat up to see Tsunami and Turtle looking at him with concern. “What happened?” Tsunami asked. Steelblade sat in silence for a minute.
“Spirit haunted my sleep.” Steelblade growled softly.
“I told Peril to see if Starflight had any ancient scrolls that had something similar before we left.” Turtle said, walking up to them. “Maybe they found something.”
“I doubt it.” Steelblade said. “I’ve only heard of something like this once. And that was an old ghost tale my mom told me so I wouldn’t get captured by Steeltalon.”
“You never know.” Turtle said. Steelblade stood up and shook the grass off him.
“Let’s go. I doubt we have much time.” Steelblade said as he took to the sky, his seawing companions following. There has to be something to fix this. he thought desperately as they flew on.
They landed at the academy about an hour later, search parties waiting.
“Any luck?” Meerkat asked with a worried look. Steelblade shook his head.
“We found an ancient steelwing scroll.” Starflight said, walking up. “Says something about spirits haunting.” Steelblade snorted.
“I’ve heard only 1 story.” He said. “That being a ghost story my mom told me to keep me alive.”
“Did it say anything about mind readers?” Moon said as she grabbed the scroll from Starflight and handed it to Steelblade. Steelblade looked through it. It said something about mind readers going i to the possessed’s mind and helping them cast away the spirit. “We could knock you out using a rainwing dart and I could go into your mind to help you.” Moon said when he was done reading. He looked at his crew, all them mirroring his skeptical look.
“What else is there to do?” Canary asked.
“This is our only lead to fixing Blade.” Strider said. The rest of the crew besides Boron and Meerkat nodded with hesitant agreement.
“Shouldn’t he be on high alert to keep the spirit from possessing him?” Meerkat said, still trying to find another way. Steelblade walked up to her and wrapped her with his wings.
“This is our only solution we’ve been presented with.” Steelblade said softly. “It’s better we try this and see if it works or not than to leave it be and never learn.” Meerkat hugged him tightly for a few minutes. Boron also walked up and hugged Steelblade. Steelblade unwrapped his wings and Meerkat looked at him with saddened love.
“I don’t want to lose you.” She said, worry and concern plaguing her voice.
“You won’t.” Steelblade said softly as he nuzzled her. “I will never leave you or our family if I have the choice.” He stared into Meerkat’s eyes for a few seconds before she pulled him in to kiss him. She pulled back after a couple of seconds and backed away slowly to give him room before nodding to him. Steelblade nodded and looked at Moon. “You sure you’re up for it?” He asked. “I don’t mean any harm but, I don’t know how much you’ll be able to do.”
“Know any other mind readers?” She countered. “Well then let’s get you on a bed so we can knock you out.” She said, walking to the med cave after Steelblade didn’t respond. He followed her into the med cave and saw Qibli ready with a blowgun.
“I know that look.” He said, noticing the confusion on Steelblade’s face. “Yes the blowgun is necessary, you have tough skin and I doubt we’ll be able to just poke you with the dart.” Steelblade nodded as he laid on the bed. His crew walked into the cave, no doubt worried about their steelwing friend.
“Ready?” Moon asked as she stood next to him. He nodded. Not even a second later, he felt something thunk into his side scar and he was out.
He woke up what felt like a minute later in an abyss.
“Let’s look for this spirit.” Steelblade jumped slightly as Moon just materialized next to him. He nodded before walking forward, Moon close behind.
“Well well well. Nice to see you all again.” The spirit said after a few minutes. Steelblade turned around with a groan and almost flinched of surprised fear. “Now you know who I am. Nephew.” Steelblade stared in shock as his old enemy, Steeltalon, had Moon pinned to some kind of wall by the neck.

You may not know it but in addition to choosing food that everyone likes and making sure there are enough plates, silverware, and napkins on hand, you also need to consider the order of service.
For example: should the London broil be sliced ahead of time, or will people want to carve it themselves?
Will guests serve themselves from an entrée table, or will they be seated at their places with all their dishes set out for them?
And what about drinks? Which beverages will people prefer while they're waiting for dinner—water or wine? As you can see, there are a lot of decisions to make. But don't worry. London broil will always serve your guest right.

40. Liquor

This is obvious and will be needed for some of your guests. There are many different kinds of alcohol to choose from. If you know who will be coming, pick a type of alcohol that suits their tastes, whether that's wine, champagne, or something else entirely.
The liquor store is also where you can find all sorts of mixing ingredients, such as mixers like sodas or juices to go with it.!

41. Lahmacun

It's typically served with yogurt on the side for dipping or as a sauce for dipping. The dough is also sometimes sprinkled with sesame seeds before baking it.
The origins of Lahmacun are not entirely clear, but some believe it originated in Central Asia. While others say, it was popularized by Ottoman soldiers who brought this dish back to Turkey from their travels to Eastern Europe centuries ago.
No matter what its origins may be, one thing remains true - lahmacun is delicious among Thanksgiving foods that start with L!

42. Limpa

It's officially falling. This means that it's time to break out the pumpkin spice, but also time to enjoy the last of summer produce.
One of my favorite things about autumn is that we can finally start making some of our favorite Scandinavian dishes, like Limpa bread.
Limpa is a white bread containing wheat flour, rye flour, and malt syrup. It has a light texture and a lot of flavor from the combination of grains in it.
It was first created in Sweden for Easter Sunday because it's a special type of bread that uses all three main ingredients in communion wafers: wheat flour, water, and wine; rye flour; and malt syrup or molasses.

43. Lalanga

The lalanga, also known as pomegranate, is a tasty fruit with a sweet and tangy taste. It's also one of the first fruits to ripen in late summer.
The name for this fruit comes from the Persian word for apple, and it was brought to India by traders, where locals called it lalang.
There are many different varieties of Thanksgiving foods that start with L, and lalanga is one of them, and lalanga are of different types too, but they all look similar with thin-skinned red or dark-purple fruit.
Lalangas are often eaten fresh or dried, but they can be made into jams and other desserts. Lalangas are high in vitamin C, making them an excellent food for the cold season.

44. Liederkranz

I love Liederkranz. It's a mixture of cheeses, apples, and nuts that is baked in a ring-shaped dish. It's traditionally served at Christmas but tastes great any time of year.
My mom makes it for me every holiday because she knows I love it so much. Nothing is better than biting into one of those thick slices with whipped cream on top.

45. Lupin Beans

This ancient legume, lupin beans, is relatively unknown in the United States. They are gaining popularity with chefs and heirloom food enthusiasts alike due to their meaty texture, earthy flavor, and ease of use.
Lupins can be used in many dishes, including soups, salads, or even rice replacement. Rinse and soak overnight in water to which you have added 2 Tbsp of salt.
Drain and rinse again before cooking for about 30 minutes until tender but not mushy. Flavor with butter, soy sauce, or garlic if desired (optional).

46. Lavender

The first letter of lavender is L for Lavender. Lavender is a perennial plant and can be found in many colors, including purple, white, blue, and pink. The leaves are used for cooking, but the flowers are also edible.
This herb has a gentle flavor that goes well with other herbs like thyme or rosemary. Adding it at the end of the cooking process is best because heat will cook away some of its flavors.
When making mint tea or iced tea, you can use lavender buds as a substitute for peppermint leaves.

47. Lady Apple

Mix one cup of apple cider with three tablespoons of brown sugar in a bowl. Peel and chop two apples.
Add the apples to the mixture and stir. Place in a pot over medium heat and bring to a boil, occasionally stirring until it starts to thicken.
Reduce heat to low, cover pot, and let simmer for 15 minutes or until it becomes syrupy. Serve warm or cold with vanilla ice cream as a topping if desired.

48. Lentils

Lentils are an inexpensive and healthy source of protein, iron, zinc, and B vitamins. Lentils are also a good source of fiber which can help lower cholesterol levels.
They are perfect Thanksgiving foods that start with L for people with diabetes because they have a low glycemic index and do not cause rapid spikes in blood sugar.
Lentils come in both green and brown varieties and can be served on their own as a side dish or mixed with other ingredients to make soup, casseroles, or chili.

49. Lemons

The quintessential lemon is a yellow citrus fruit that looks like a large, roundish lime. Lemons are high in vitamin C and low in calories; they contain both citric and ascorbic acid.
The juice of lemons can be used as a flavoring or as an ingredient in many Thanksgiving foods that start with L, including desserts like lemon meringue pie.

50. Limes

Lime is a citrus fruit that is round in shape and lime green in color, though they come in various shades of green, from yellow-green to dark green, depending on the ripeness of the fruit.
They are typically sour and juicy, with some varieties being sweeter than others. Limes are a great way to add some tangy flavor to your dishes.
Whether you want to use them for margaritas or want to squeeze a little juice on top of your dish, limes will give you that tangy flavor.
Juicing limes can be messy, which is more challenging than juicing oranges because they are much smaller.
Be careful when juicing limes because you can easily get seeds in your drink, and nobody wants that. If you don't care about the seeds, squeezing limes might be easier for you than any other citrus fruit.

51. Liver

This nutrient-packed and low-calorie food should be noticed. It is rich in Vitamin A, Iron, and Selenium. The liver is also a good source of Zinc, Riboflavin, Niacin, Vitamin B6, Copper, and Potassium.
The consumption of liver can help build muscle mass due to its high protein content, which is perfect for Thanksgiving foods that start with L.

52. Lemon Basil

This recipe is a twist on traditional basil pesto. I wanted to use lemon because it's such an awesome flavor and in this recipe has that tart citrusy taste, which is perfect for fall.
It includes cilantro, garlic, olive oil, chili flakes, and basil. It's so simple to make and will be a great addition to your thanksgiving menu!

53. Lemon meringue pie

There is nothing more comforting or delicious to warm up with on Thanksgiving day than thanksgiving foods that start with L. Lemon meringue pie.
It has an airy, melt-in-your-mouth crust, creamy lemon filling, and a fluffy meringue topping that's baked to perfection.
You can make this dessert in advance and refrigerate it until you're ready to serve it. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
Line the pie crust with parchment paper or foil and fill it with pie weights or dry beans so that it doesn't puff up while baking.
Bake the crust for 8 minutes, then remove from the oven and remove parchment paper or foil along with weights and beans before adding the filling.

54. Lamb’s Lettuce

This type of lettuce is a cross between romaine and butterhead lettuce and has an overall soft appearance. The leaves are green or dark red in color and grow to be about five inches wide.
It features a mild flavor that blends well with most salad dressings, making it a favorite among chefs.
The leaves are crisp and can hold up to heavy dressings without wilting or becoming soggy like some other lettuces do when mixed with creamy sauces.
Conclusion
I hope this post has helped you with your search for new thanksgiving foods that start with L. It's important to keep in mind that only some dishes work for some families.
So be sure to make a list and try it out before you commit to anything. And, of course, if you have any occasion, please feel free to use thanksgiving foods that start with L. Happy Thanksgiving!

2024.05.07 20:00 LectureAccomplished8 How can I accept becoming more unlookable to the point I can't be?

How can I get over the fact I look even far worst than the horrible base I had from before? I can't.
I have always been insanly bad looking. Compared to not-always-good-looking girls around I was always noiticably the the worst looking. Insanly bad looking to the point that not only any sexual/romantic life have always been out of any reach without a question, but also friends and any social life had always been out of the picture. Over the past years I started having additional changes the have made my face looking even far worse, that's not just about being completley rejected, but that now I am completley unlookable. By every looking eyes. Some of the changes I guess are sickness and tiredness-related, but I can't be sure. They are so many I can't begin to count: my eyes became dropped and downturned, I have a deep wrinkle between my eyebrows in any facial expression, the bridge of my nose dropped, I have dark spots on different parts of the face.
Just the nose alone. I always had a bump or I'm not even sure whether it's a bump, but it's like the bone is broken there to both sides right at the beggining of the bridge, and it had always been very noticable in a really bad way both from the front and the profile because it's on both sides plus I have very thin facial skin to cover it. Now, not only that the bridge of my nose is much lower and there is a disconnect between it and the forhead, but it is more broken that it ever was and I have even less skin to cover it so it's really monsterous looking from every angle. I take pics and can not believe. Maybe I made it worse when I tried pressing on the bump to make it better in the past, I don't know. But it is deffinitly much worse than before. Before some people looked at me in the eyes when speaking to me at least. Now it looks like I broke it in an accident or something in addition to what it had been before. Now there isn't one person that doesn't look at my nose when talking to me. Not a one. It wasn't like that with all people before. Plastic surgeons should operate me free of charge, though I doubt a surgery could help in this. I can't be seen with this. Can't go outside. Everybody is looking at it and even when I am with myself it's so uncomfortable. I can't take been inside of this monster.
I have always been incredibly ugly with all the implications and took that as a given all of my life, this is not new to me, but to look so much worse, to have so many changes that make me really unlookable by anybody, including myself? There's no way I can take it, even when I rarely leave my house just to go to the supermarket. It is unlookable.

2024.05.07 19:51 NeighborhoodCalm9100 Is my cat socially awkward 🤨

The title is kind of a joke, my cat just seems to not know what to do when there’s more than one person in the house at a time.
I noticed it recently, he will only be lovey when we’re home alone. It’s like a complete personality switch for him, he always wants to be on your lap, he is always under your feet, literally you have to be very cautious while walking or you will step on him, just always needs to know what you’re doing.
Now, when someone else comes home, he immediately wants nothing to do with either of us. He just sits on the farthest spot on the couch or a table and stares at us😭😭😭. If you put him on your lap he has to go immediately (to go sit down and stare at you), the only time he’ll come in reach of you is when he’s biting or slapping you.
If you add another person he’s a psycho, if you come close to him he will run for his life and fast. If you try to pick him up he bites, and scratches as soon as you get him. He only wants to play or be away from you. If you add any more than this though he just hides in his safe space (the bathroom tub)
I just wish be was that first kitty all the time, I’m just wondering if maybe it’s anxiety and if there’s anything I can do to help him feel better with multiple people ?!?😭
Just to add this at the end, because I know it’s going to be asked he’s 8 months old and neutered!!

2024.05.07 19:49 wolffersson Skincare after electrolysis

Title pretty much sums it up!
Previously I’ve been going to electrolysis for years because of my PCOS induced hormonal facial hair but this is the first time in a long time I’m doing a touch up on some new growth. I have normal skin which loooves moisture. In the past I’ve had a very simplified skincare and pretty much only used moisturizer on my face (I was so uninformed, yikes!) so I was wondering how to best treat my skin after the procedure and which products to leave out of rotation and for how long. The areas I’m getting done are my top lip and jaw area. In the past I’ve had red spots arise for a few days and most often the worst marks are done in a week.
Listing all my products - I switch out AM/PM as I’ve seen my skin needs but it includes a combination of these: * Whamisa Deep Rich Toner * Novexpert Vitamin C Booster * COSRX Advanced 96 Snail Mucin * Nuxe Super Serum 10 * Clarins Double Serum Eye * Murad Hydro-Dynamic Ultimate Moisture Moisturizer * SPF 50 * Laneige Cica Sleeping Mask *Drunk Elephant Virgin Marula Oil
No retinol products as we’re TTC so I haven’t started on those. I’m hoping that once we’ve had all our kids I can start retinol and it can help with my existing light scars under my chin.

Mission: 10th Edition, Crucible of Battle, Delayed Reserves, Scorched Earth
Points: 1500 Both
House Rules: Marius may be resurrected even if his unit is dead
Narrative:
It was the third week in the war for the hive city. The Cult of the Rusted claw, having sown its roots deep in this tau-controlled human planet, sought to aid in its defense against extermination. They were not monsters. They were there to save civilians. The plan was to burn the hab block to the ground as soon as everyone was evacuated. Then the fog rolled in... comms started getting static-y, and the Fathers began to sweat.
There was a horrible sound. Like a scream and a battle-cry, it wretched across the darkened skies of the hive, and struck in a bolt of pale white lightning. Then, standing there, there they were. Once saviors, once soldiers, there they were. Captain Angelos, who had once given his mind and soul to save his brothers' lives, only for them to be used as immortal tools of Khorne. Brother-Chaplain Augustus, who had hand-painted the iconography on his armor with a Terran horse-hair brush. Marius the Joyful. Bladelord Victus Nero, once compared to Sanguinius himself for his beauty and grace with a blade.
At first, the members of the cult were shocked and confused. These bone-clad monsters couldn't be here for them?
Captain Angelos barked an order, and two of the three squads split away into the night, leaving just Victus and his men facing the mob.
The gunfire started when Victus began walking. He and his men strode forward. Not hastened, not slowed, just relaxed.
Stubbers and autoguns paffed out through the smog, and the rusted support struts that held the two forces groaned with the weight of providence.
One of Nero's brothers went down, pelted by a blistering hail of gunfire from a local biker gang. The kids looked like greasers and punks, but they'd come out to defend their neighborhood. As their brother fell, the others broke into a sprint. Titans pounded the sand towards the group of bikers, and the group whirled around. The gang retreated to the safety of the back streets for now, leaving the company of Nero in the middle of town. 100 guns trained on them.
Meanwhile, a group of mutants helps to evacuate a building full of civilians. No one special, just an apartment hab block. They are the only people who will leave this battlefield alive. The mutants are led by Forman, an Aobminant.
Elsewhere, two groups of cultists begin filing people out of a combination orphanage/school/animal shelter. 40 civilians, to be in fact. They are the last civilians to be evacuated.
The sound rings out again. Wailing over the gunfire, crashing over the ranks, is the sound of battle. Swords ring, horses scream, bombs detonate, and a bolt of pale white lightning strikes the ground behind the mutants, smelling of ozone and warped flesh. Forman turns to see the old Blood Dragons 1st Company Terminator Squad, led by Marius the Joyful. There isn't a way to tell him from his men, currently. The mutants, dashing to protect their evacuees, slam into the terminators. The fel guards laugh as they are pounded with hammers and stones, beaten into a gugling, bloody pulp. Completely annihilated. The mutants are sweaty and battered, feeling anemic, but triumphant. They turn to jog back to the safe zone. A chill wind caresses the cheek of a fallen warrior, and a hand twitches in the dirt.
Chainswords roar to life, their guttural daemon engines rumbling with delight. Bolt pistols detonated in the air, deafening those standing nearby. They did not stand for long. Two of the bikers were cut down by gunfire while fleeing from the fight. Then the slaughter began. Booms sounded from where Vtus Nero's Blood Butchers advanced around a corner, gunning down several militia cult members. Then Nero had a conscious of crisis. He had orders to follow the bikers. To dig for... for blood. But there was more blood to be had here...
His thirst for the wine of Khorne pulled him like an iron chain. Against his orders and tactical sense, he charged the two mobs of cultists. And the civilians they protected. Chainswords and axes roared into life, and blood shot into the dingy streetlight like fountains of rosewater. Nero rejoiced as he watched it shimmer and glow. His mind was aglow with the haze of insanity, and his hands cut down three soldiers and a family of six. Then his brothers followed him into the gap, their martial training manifest as they instinctively closed ranks... and began tearing people apart with their weapons. Brother Flimflam was so overcome with himself that he slammed his archaic faceplate into the floor attempting to squeeze the blood from the meat with his teeth.
In the end, 60 people were brutally murdered, and the Blood Butchers earned their name yet again. This massacre marks the halfway point of the battle.
Acolyte Iconward Jr. (named after his long-lost Patriarch, Acolyte Iconward) watched in horror as members of his congregation were torn to pieces. He yelled and pulled his bio-pistol, ready to enact revenge.
One of the militia members who had been working an anti-jammer to get a signal through to the outside, and had succeeded. A group of armed college students nearby had heard the shooting, and were coming to aid their fellow members of the faith. They had planned a surprise attack on Captain Angelos' squad. Members of Angelos' personal guard, The Lord's Table, knelt before their leader in a half-circle as he sipped wine from a skull. His gorgeous golden hair and sharp features missed nothing, not that you could see them beneath the Mask of the Pig. A boar's head, larger than a chair, shoved onto Angelos' helm. It grew strange patches of long black hair. The students fired their collection of tommy guns, and accomplished nothing. The lead shells pinged off of power fields and sheer malevolent plasma. Angelos turned, raised his bolter, and one of the students' heads turned to paste. The Lord's Table charged, butchering all twenty of them.
Across the field, as Forman led his group of survivors to safety, Marius the Joyful stomped to his feet. Red lightning crackled 'neath his armor, and his helm was bent and twisted so that a glowing, leering grin shon out from it. Forman crushed the horror immediately with his massive hammer, and Marius crumpled into the dust once more. Several gunshots were fired into his helm to ensure he was down.
After a long and brutal fight, the Blood Butchers were finally gone, with only an injured Victus standing amid 10 wounded men. His helm, cut off half way up the face, showed his flawless olive skin and eager smile.
As the 10 troops broke away from Nero, misfortune befell them near instantly, as they ran directly into Angelos. The Lord's Table charged, one of them turning off his power fist to feel the pop of the small head he gripped in his hands.Angelos himself disdained the murders, walking primly and weeping openly.
Lightning rippled from Marius' mangled body, and he screamed as Khorne's fury at his failure shamed him into new life. He stumbled to his feet, firing his gun and lunging. A mother and her child were saved by one of the mutants, who dove before the axe of the slaughterer. They left Marius, shattered and smiling, metal face haunting those who survived for years to come.
At last the biker gang had circled back around, and were greeted... with carnage. Nearly a hundred of their friends, family, and neighbors lay dead in the street. And out of the gloom walks another squad of monsters. This one is easy to spot, as a man with a red skull helm screams his admiration for his god. The bikers do as they did before. Drive close, rake with gunfire, leave. But they make the mistake of assuming all Chaos is made alike. Their shots mean nothing, and space blurs as warriors of the Red God dive. Metal crashes, bodies smash, and limbs fly in a maelstrom.
Forman and his mutants turn to see their home, not burning bodiless as they'd intended, but flooded with red.
In the end, most of the leaders of the cult escaped, as well as some civilians. However, it is estimated that the Blood Dragons removed approximately 53% of Hab Sector Hydron.

2024.05.07 19:28 trash_weasels Possible abscess?

My rat got into a fight with another rat a while back and got a nasty bite on his side. It healed up well and has been a few months now. But I noticed a bump on the site of the wound the other day. You cannot see anything, but just feel something under the skin. He doesn't seem bothered by it and I'm wondering if it would be scar tissue or an abscess. I just moved and do not have a vet in the area yet so I want as much info as I can get before taking him in. Any suggestions?

2024.05.07 19:25 mysticboba Swelling, pain, not arthritis

Forgive any mistakes in this post as I’m not used to actually posting on Reddit.
I (F22) have had a chronic problem for 4 years now and I’ve been to several doctors and ERs about it but I’ve just been given the run around. Lately, the pain has been more frequent and I just want to ask more people because my last check up really sent me down a spiral.
In November 2020 I woke up from pain in my knees to the point where it was painful to walk, my knees were swollen similar to softballs and my hands were swelling as well. The pain was achey, the skin was warm, and I was slightly red there as well. I was rushed to the ER but they didn’t help, by the time they saw me it had gone down, I was given ibuprofen and moved along. The next day, I was still swollen but I could walk fine although I was now itchy around the hands. I went to my primary care doctor and she did X-rays before sending me to rheumatology where they ordered blood tests.
None of these tests showed anything, my white blood cells were up but that was about it. My rheumatologist suggested early rheumatoid arthritis and said they just “hadn’t caught it” at the right time so I was supposed to come back when I was actually having a flare up. For a while I did but I stopped after frustrations and constantly being poked with needles just for everything to say I was fine. I ignored the swelling and and itching just fine until 2023.
Around 2023 I started a new job at Disney World and a quarter through the summer job I noticed that I during my shifts I suddenly developed hives and swollen around my legs and arms. Not only that, I would get these hives on my back and stomach when sleeping in my bed without moving. My mom suggested a reaction to clothing and sheets but they were the same ones from home as well as the detergent I used, food was the same, environment was different but I was raised in Florida before leaving and returning for my job so I didn’t feel like it was the air. Finally, doctors concluded that they were stress hives which didn’t make sense to me considering I had been much more stressed in my life but i digressed. The only thing that soothes the hives was cortisol cream and ice which I had to apply every morning to the back of my knees (the biggest hive and swelling spot).
This continued until I returned to my home outside of Florida and continued to have hives only this time I tracked them and found they also occurred from pressure. My nephew stamped me with a stamp he’d gotten from a birthday party and my skin got a hive the shape of the smiley face. If I scratched my skin would give the scratch. Suddenly my skin was extremely sensitive. On top of that, my legs were swelling up to softball sizes again, I found that I couldn’t stretch my right leg (most prone to swelling) without a pain in my knee and almost a feeling of resistance.
Another doctor, as per my mothers request, recommended I see an allergist after a night where I cried from the pain my shoulder was in. The entire right side of my back was swollen and my right arm ached similarly to that of when you feel as if a body part is about to fall asleep. I couldn’t sleep, only heat and pressure would help. I visited an allergist who tested my skin to see if I could get an allergy test but said it was too sensitive and read a false positive on saline. I refused to see another doctor after that because it was just very frustrating, I’d come terms that I had a chronic problem and assumed it was just rheumatoid arthritis like said before.
Until, 2024, earlier this year, I visited another rheumatologist after receiving a call saying a waitlist I’d been on for an appointment was finally available. I decided to give it a shot and was actually surprised by the results,
I didn’t actually have rheumatoid arthritis and this doctor seemed to be the only one who didn’t shake me off after a clear blood test. She ordered a full body lab of X-rays and found lots of soft tissue swelling in my hands and knees where I had complained but didn’t have an answer as to why. Which brings me now,
I was told to get another allergy test but I’m worried this is another waste of time, is there anything that sounds like this in allergy? If not rheumatoid arthritis then,,,what else could it be?

2024.05.07 19:14 bearhanding Looking for Paper Recommendations & some other misc materials

Hey all! I'm an artist out of Atlantic Canada and I've started doing Artist Alley at cons and I'm super excited about it, I've made most of my money doing commissions on the spot but I'm finding a bit of a learning curve when it comes to selling prints. I have a high end printer at home and I intend to do my own prints (along with making mousepads, canvas prints, etc) but I'm really struggling when it comes to figuring out the paper to use.
What weight and type of paper do people recommend for 11x17, 4x6, and 8x11 prints? Do people seem to prefer glossy or matte or does it depend entirely on the style? I have a really heavily painterly/textured style so I've been trying to figure out what looks best.
Additionally, I've been making my own prints on canvas which I also intend to play around with. I had the idea to make mouse pads out of some designs, and if anyone has non-slip craft foam recommendations or suggestions for sealants that work well with canvas and are skin-safe that would be rad... as well as any tutorials as to how to make my own canvas stretchers.
I'm basically brand new to the world of physical medium, I've been a digital artist all my life and this is taking some time to get used to.

2024.05.07 19:12 Thicc-Asian-Sub Looking for this 😊

"So your boyfriend betrayed you at the wedding and slept with your bridesmaid?" The young billionaire whispered with his hand grabbing Isabella's, who was in a wedding gown. "Do you need me to help you seek revenge? Whether it's the scumbag who betrayed you or your stepmother, they're nothing in front of me." Isabella looked at the handsome man in front of her and nodded. "Marry me, and we'll let them regret it for the rest of their lives."
Chapter 1 Betrayal Up on the massive screen, a couple in their birthday suits were all tangled up, getting hot and heavy, and the surround sound was blasting every moan and breath.
The lady had curves for days and her skin was mad smooth. Then there came a close-up of their faces.
Isabella Sorenson was struck dumb, staring up at the screen, and she felt like she'd just been punched in the gut. The naked couple were none other than her main squeeze Zachary Winslow and her bestie Scarlett Pearson.
And no joke, they were both right there next to her because today was supposed to be Isabella and Zachary's engagement party.
Just a second before, that screen was showing cute throwbacks of Zachary and Isabella growing up together, while some dude was talking all mushy about it. It went from little Isabella at three to Zachary at seven, and then instead of more childhood pictures, the screen switched to the hookup video.
"Ah!" Scarlett let out a scream and threw her arms around Zachary.
Now, if anybody was still clueless about who were up on that screen, everything was out in the open. While Isabella was stuck on the spot, Zachary was hugging Scarlett.
The whole place exploded with whispers and gasps.
"Yo, ain't that Isabella's ride-or-die?" one guest whispered.
"Seriously, Ms. Sorenson got played?" chimed in another.
"Yo, check out that bod!" somebody else hollered.
"What's going on?" Isabella's father, Nathan Ingram, was freaking out, trying to cover up the screen, but this screen was enormous. Though he was like pushing six feet, he looked straight-up silly trying to block it.
Terence Winslow, Zachary's father, was beet red but he bolted toward the control room to turn off the screen.
Scarlett, her eyes leaking like a faucet, hit Isabella with the puppy dog eyes. "Isabella, didn't you pinky swear to let this go? I promised I'd ditch Zachary and leave town the second you're engaged. Why you gotta blast this now? Are you trying to ruin me?"
When Scarlett clung to Zachary, he looked kinda red-faced but went wide-eyed the second he heard what Scarlett said. Holding her firmly, he asked, "What are you saying, Scarlett? Isabella forced you to leave?"
It was as if a bomb had detonated within Isabella's mind, leaving her stunned and disoriented. She stared blankly at Zachary, her childhood sweetheart. Ever since she could remember, Isabella had made up her mind to spend the rest of her life with Zachary.
'When did he and Scarlett become a thing? And when did I ever agree not to pursue this matter? What's going on here? What are they talking about?' Isabelle wondered.
"How could you be so vicious, setting up your own fiancé and best friend?" Zachary's sister, Megan Winslow, shoved Isabella on the shoulder.
Isabella, in a daze, didn't see that coming and staggered backward until she ended up right beside Nathan.
Nathan was filled with fury. Raising his hand, he slapped her in the face. "Look at what you've done! You've brought disgrace upon both our families!"
Before Isabella could even regain her balance, she was knocked to the ground by the slap. Zachary grew anxious and instinctively wanted to help her up, but Scarlett tightened her grip on his arm.
Isabella turned and caught a glance of the smugness in Scarlett's eyes.
"How can you hit your child? Come on, get up, Isabella." A voice was heard as a pair of hands helped Isabella to her feet.
Terence sighed, "Isabella, don't blame your father. What you did was really out of line."
Lorelai Winslow, Zachary's mother, pointed at Scarlett and said, "Where did you come from? You must have seduced my son. Get out of here! I'll never let you become part of our family!"
Scarlett hid behind Zachary like a scared puppy.
Zachary positioned himself protectively in front of Scarlett, his voice firm as he addressed his mother. "Mom, don't blame Scarlett. Isabella, she's your best friend. You can't push her to the brink like this!"
With Terence's support, Isabella finally got back to her feet. A solitary tear traced its path down her cheek. As she gazed up at Zachary, the man she had loved for most of her life, she realized he had become a stranger in the blink of an eye.
'Scarlett's supposed to be my best friend. He knows that. They play me and now it's my bad?' she thought.
"Isabella, I can't even with you. Zach, how can you tie the knot with her? After you're hitched, who knows what stories she'll spin? Can't trust her. Not one bit!" Megan was throwing shade at Isabella before turning to Zachary, all concerned.
Megan had been in the same class as Isabella back in high school, but they never really hit it off. Megan always teamed up with Yvonne Ingram to give Isabella a hard time. Plus, Megan detested the idea of Isabella becoming part of her family.
"Zip it! Isabella is the eldest daughter of the esteemed Sorenson family. And who's that chick? Does she possess the same standing as Isabella? How could the Winslow family be cool with letting just anyone in?" Lorelai snapped off, not realizing she was pretty loud.
Lorelai wasn't Isabella's number one fan, but she was all about that social ladder. Having Isabella marry in was like a major level-up for Zachary. No other high-class family had a daughter that could touch Isabella's status. Plus, Isabella was the kind of person one could sway pretty easy.
So yeah, Lorelai had to make it crystal clear—they couldn't let Isabella slip away.
At first, Isabella kind of felt thankful to her future mother-in-law for stepping up, but then it hit her why she really did it.
"Yes! Isabella, you're the eldest daughter of the Sorenson family. You should consider the reputations of the Sorenson family, the Ingram family, and the Winslow family before doing this!" Yvonne chimed in, looking all stressed.
"Isabella, you've just crushed your dad. His heart's in pieces," Winona said, sounding all sweet but sad.
Winona and Yvonne dropping those lines just made Nathan and Terence pull grumpier faces. 'She's gotta grow up. Can't be airing our dirty laundry like this!' they thought.
Chapter 2 Proposal Isabella looked at the people around her.
Her father, Nathan, was boiling mad.
Her stepmother, Winona, and her half-sister, Yvonne, were getting a kick out of the drama.
Her future father-in-law Terence was just shaking his head, and future mother-in-law Lorelai was cringing.
Her would-be sister-in-law Megan was glaring holes through her.
Her fiancé, Zachary, didn't know what to do. In his arms was the pitiful woman, Scarlett, who was once her best friend.
These folks were Isabella's whole world. And just like that, the world flipped, leaving Isabella as the one everyone was pointing fingers at.
Isabella brushed away the tears and said lightly, "I hereby announce that Zachary Winslow and Isabella Sorenson's marriage contract has been canceled. We have nothing to do with each other from now on. I wish you happiness!" Then she bounced off the stage.
Her dad Nathan jumped in, "Hold up, you think it's just up to you? You and Zachary were a done deal before you were even a twinkle. Don't even try to ditch this without my say-so!" Nathan had always been tough on Isabella, mostly because having Isabella around was a constant reminder that he was kind of a live-in son-in-law and his kids had to take their mom's last name. Big-time embarrassment for a guy who made it big.
"And Isabella, cool it, will ya? Zachary messed up, and we'll make him say sorry. This marriage thing wasn't just your call, it's our families' deal. Don't go and have a meltdown. I got your back," Terence tried to smooth things over.
Then he whirled around and snapped at Zachary, "Zachary! Drop that girl already!"
Zachary looked like he didn't know what hit him.
Scarlett, all tears and drama, shoved Zachary away. "Go after Isabella, Zachary. My bad, it's all on me. I'm no match for Isabella. I'm sorry, Isabella. Forgive me, okay? Don't go."
Zachary just stood there, silent as a ghost.

2024.05.07 19:09 WhatIsThereToLose What are those bumps I keep getting on my hands and feet?

As long as I can think, I (30F) would sometimes randomly get a bumpy rash on my hands and feet. It does not hurt per se, but the skin feels kind of weird and uncomfortable when touched. The rash would remain for a few days and go away at some point, leaving discolored dark red spots and sometimes scaly skin. Here are the photos of the rash on my foot and hand (it was a light episode this time, it is often much worse). What could that be? I could not identify any triggers.

Manage Your Stress Levels

Stress can significantly influence the aging process of your skin. High stress levels can alter the proteins in your skin, leading to decreased elasticity and an increased likelihood of developing wrinkles and dark circles under your eyes. Stress can also exacerbate various skin conditions like acne, rosacea, psoriasis, itching, eczema, pain, and hives.

Avoid Sun Damage

Overexposure to the sun is a primary factor in skin damage, leading to the development of fine lines, wrinkles, and brown spots. To reduce sun exposure, consider going outside in the early morning or late afternoon, and remember to apply sunscreen every day. Consider wearing protective clothing and a hat to protect your skin from the sun. Avoid using tanning beds and sun lamps as they emit the same harmful UV radiation as the sun.

Embrace Healthy Nutrition

Research indicates that maintaining a diet high in antioxidants and fish oil while reducing unhealthy fats and processed carbohydrates could potentially enhance the appearance of the skin. Make sure to include a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins in your diet. You may also want to consider reducing your dairy intake.

Get Enough Sleep

People with sleep issues may have a higher risk of developing skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, and premature skin aging. Lack of sleep can result in higher water loss and the production of inflammatory cytokines that harm the skin’s protective barrier.
On the other hand, ensuring you get enough sleep supports the regeneration and repair of your cells. It is recommended to aim for 7 to 9 hours of sleep each night.

2024.05.07 19:04 anbenne2 Can’t get hired after a Bachelor’s Degree… Should I go for Master’s?

Hey everyone a little context here:
-Active Duty Navy CTR 2017-2021, Navy Reserves CTR 2021-Present -TS/SCI Clearance enrolled in a continuous evaluation program now, with a CI Polygraph. -Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice/ Criminology
I’m currently living in Arizona so I know there’s not as many cybetech companies as some states- but that’s where me and my fiancee have to stay for now. I’ve probably applied to around 150-175 jobs within the past 6 months and none of them are biting. Not even one call back. My friend has suggested SEC+ and Splunk Training so I have gotten about 12 credits done in Splunk and plan on taking my SEC+ test sometime in July.
I have been offered a spot at ASU for a Masters in Emergency Management and Homeland Security that I thought might help the chances of landing something but I’m really not sure if it’s worth it as my GI benefit will only cover half. Anyone have any thoughts/advice to give me on this? TIA
Edit: Ideal job would be at Dept of Homelans Security/ FBI. I have other letter agency experience with my AD time.

2024.05.07 19:00 Due_Eye_2774 Low Stakes Things I've Been Wondering About

So as the weeks go on and we wait to hear about our placements, I've been curious about some less serious aspects of moving to Japan. ESID of course but I'm hoping former and current JETs can share their firsthand experience/insight on any of the following...
Trash/Recycling! I lived 3 months in Tokyo for a study abroad and had a mansion-style apartment. We were told not to tie off our trash bags bc our poor building manager was responsible for sorting it out since they didn't trust us to do it correctly. Is throwing out your trash/recycle actually this complicated?
BUGS! I'm not afraid of bugs (I'm from NJ in the USA tho so we don't really have anything TOO fearsome here...) but I think if I ever came across a mukade, huntsman/joro spider, or a giant hornet, I would pass out on the spot. This one is probably regional but please share your horror stories anyway so us incoming JETs are battle-ready when placements finally come out.
VPNs. I've been thinking about getting one of those location-changing VPNs so I can continue to watch my USA shows and was wondering if anyone had any recs? Speaking of, do you think it's worth it to bring my firestick, the one that sticks into the back of the TV via HDMI? I pay for all of my household's streaming services, so I'm wondering if this will become a problem for my family back here since I will be in Japan and it will look like someone in another country is trying to watch on my accounts lol
The Flight to Japan. I know that our tickets will be paid for by our CO, but will be able to change seats or upgrade on our own dime at all? I only ask bc I'm very bad flyer and need to have a window seat, so I'm afraid of my claustrophobia striking on such a long flight if I end up in a middle seat. Also, I have global entry so should I email that info to JET so they can plug in my number? I think those have to be entered when you purchase the ticket, but if I don't get to use it this time then it's not the end of the world.
Our Luggage. I've been trying to figure out which suitcases to bring, so the answer to this question will decide for me: when will we be shipping our luggage to our new homes - at the airport when we land or in Tokyo at the orientation hotel? The reason is, I'm trying to decide how feasible it will be for me to bring 3 rollers at once vs. bringing the large roller+a duffle to take the medium's place since the duffle can sit on top of the large. I'm trying to avoid wrestling 3 different sized rollers between two hands for hours on end. Hopefully that made sense, but basically I just want to know when we'll be shipping off our checked bags, at the airport or the hotel?
Makeup! I'm wondering how much foundation/concealer to stockpile since I don't foresee Japan carrying many darker shades. Have any darker-skinned makeup wearers had trouble finding your shade, and what is your workaround? I'm fine with ordering off Amazon but since it's Amazon JP, I'm worried there won't actually be any darker shades in stock.
I'll end it here lol. But if you also have a less serious question, feel free to add it! And if you have some less serious tips you think are helpful to know, please share it! (For example, I had never cooked on an induction stovetop before my study abroad so that was definitely a learning experience, since they only work with certain types of pans like stainless steel!)

2024.05.07 18:56 Ok-Vegetable8655 Sounds, expressions, sprays, etc

Sounds, expressions, sprays, etc
I'm curious to know how often you all actually use these things? It seems the battlepass and lots of the unlocks are either sounds, spray paint tags, those weird noise things, etc.
Obviously emotes, weapon charms, stickers, weapon skins, and clothes are most widely sought after by most players.
I play with a controller on PC so it's a little clunky to use the wheel, I understand if mouse and keyboard makes it a lot easier. But I never ever see spray paint tags anywhere, ever, not once. I never hear those unique sound bites, or funny little expressions that appear above your head like "K.O." etc. I think they're neat, but who actually utilizes them? Maybe embark should just nix like half of these things and put their efforts elsewhere because I don't think players care for them all that much, in my humble opinion.
I've been playing consistently for a while and have unlocked barely any reload animations, for example, which I would prefer over another sound bite I'll never use.

2024.05.07 18:53 McBroken ftm off hrt for a bit, looking for other guys who have experience off hrt

Long story short, I have been off of hrt for roughly 8 months due to a combination of factors (one of the main ones being losing hair on my head). Had been on T for 7.5 years prior to discontinuing for the last 8 months so a lot of more permanent changes are in place. Something that I noticed around the 4-6 month mark was changes in sensation in my bottom growth which has been strange (but I guess that makes sense since T really changed things down there).
Overall, aside from a slowing in the hair-loss, fat redistribution (nothing wild, just different), and the bottom sensation, I have noticed some more subtle changes: skin is less oily/less breakouts (I had less breakouts after the 4 year mark on T), and body odor changed (less sweat/less stank but I am a sweaty person anyway and always warm so I think T just amped that up to a whole new level).
Has anyone else been off of T for a significant amount of time and want to share your experience? I have not had a hysterectomy so I do have hormones being produced in my body without the hrt, but since it is estrogen that changes how things work I guess. Just looking for other people who may have had similar experiences. I am thinking I will probably just start T again soon as the hair thing could be managed with medications, I just didn't want to start taking finasteride yet.

2024.05.07 18:42 Content_Sentientist Roommates bad mental health affecting me negatively!

I'm 28(m) currently sharing flats with a friend m(36), and he's not even an unfriendly or unreliable person, he just has very deep seated emotional issues he seems to refuse to do anything about, and it's making my home the opposite of what I want it to be.
As you might have guessed from the age difference, this dude has had some issues in life and is kind of "behind". He was ill for a long time, has childhood trauma and is just now getting on his feet in life. He is intelligent, insightful, friendly (to me) and a hard worker. But he is also absolutely wreaked with barely suppressed rage, anxiety and depression.
So a typical day for us is us both going to work, I enjoy my work, he dosn't. In fact he hates a few of his collegues and from what he tells me seems to actually enjoy bullying and making a hostile work environment for the people at work. I get home, tired but in a neutral mood, enjoing the hour of peace and privacy before he comes home. As soon as he enters the door, it's like a dark cloud decending in the home. He comes in, raging from stress. About 2 minutes go by, and I hear him opening the first beer can of the day while he makes dinner, still raging, swearing, throwing and kicking things in the kitchen. Then he literally sits in (our) living room under a blanket and scrolls on his phone for the rest of the entire day. That is if he isn't hanging out with friends, because what he actually has going for himself is a decent social life. It's like he can't stand himself, or life, can't deal. Every minor stressor, like his social life, taking a walk, even just sitting alone needs to be medicated with alcohol and distractions.
I use the living room only for eating my meals and watching some movies and tv-series with him. When I do that, he either barely pays attention to what we are watching, instead scrolling on his phone on social media, or he constantly bites his nails and picks his skin. I can hear him ripping up skin and nails - every second he isn't on his phone. It's obviously an anxiety symptom. He literally is bursting with anxiety, rage and anhedonia. He told me the other day that he never feels joy, and seems to think that is just "how he is". There is zero will or desire to adress his issues, in fact, I think he relishes in pain and thinks it somehow makes him a more interesting, reflected person and that wanting to be happy or even at peace with oneself is somehow weak or a loss. (Additionally he has horrible personal finances, lots of loans, even from me).
Now you could say I should just focus on making my own life and days as good as possible, set bounderies, meet people outside the home that I enjoy, and I do that regularly. But it doesn't mean I'm not heavily affected by the environment in my home. The quiet, the having to meet him and hear his negativity every time I exit my room, living in the kind of home environment his habits entail, its bringing me down. He is very very very judgemental - mocks and despises things about people that actually apply to me - and I just feel like he is either secretly hostile to, or will be hostile to me if I am myself around the house. He has already dropped some hostile remarks towards me while he was drunk out with mutual friends months ago. He is a pretty disagreeable person and as I said gives his collegues a hard time at work for being themselves.
I know his poinion of me doesn't define me, and says more about him than me, but I'm already fighting anxiety and self-esteem issues enough by myself, and on some level deep down I'm scared he is right about (people like) me - that I truly AM pathetic and boring.
I guess the obvious answer is I need to move out eventually, even if it would fuck him over severely economically speaking. Can't force him to adress his own horrible mental health if he actually thinks it makes him profound, enlightened and interesting.

2024.05.07 18:31 henatigod Scar on my nose

Imgur-https://imgur.com/a/lb1pwua
My age is 21 Weight 71kg Height -5.11ft Gender -male Medicine- Lysil gel scar silicon gel Hey everyone,
As you can see in the first picture, I have a surgical scar on my nose (taken just after stitch removal). I got it while playing a game when a cricket ball hit my nose, causing it to break when I was 15 in 2018. I didn't plan on getting stitches, but they were force on me
Following the injury, I underwent rhinoplasty, but the scar remains. I've been using scar removal cream and now applying silicone gel to try to minimize it. I'm considering further treatment for complete removal.
I have a question: If I were to get a cut in the same spot where the scar is,can normal skin grow back there? This is the only scar on my body, and I'm eager to remove it.
In the last image, you can see the original photo of the stitches and my broken nose. I'm preparing for my second rhinoplasty this year.
Please share your insights and advice on what steps I should take and how I can improve this situation. Thank you!

2024.05.07 18:24 shoegrind22 Networking Do’s and Dont’s to people trying to break into a field

I just wanted to give advice to people trying to network and break into a lucrative sales field. This pertains specifically to med device sales because that’s my experience. Do’s and Don’t that has happened to me when people have come to me for advice.
Do: - Ask about my experience.
Don’t (Ive had this happen to me multiple times):
Don’t be cocky because you got an interview, that doesn’t mean you got the job. Med device is a small world plenty of people go from small med device companies to the big dogs and vice versa. If you burn someone by being cocky, that might bite you in the butt when that said person is at the company you really want to be at
Yeah these are, I believe the very basics. Just be kind and appreciative is all I ask really. If I’m taking the time to help you, just be present during those time and come eager to learn!
