This is part three of a post I made looking at every club that was relegated from the Austrian Bundesliga once and never returned, part of a larger series on clubs who only had one stint in their country's top flight. Parts one and two are here in case you missed them.

Kremser SC

A quick 23 minute drive up the S33 brings us to the city of Krems an der Donau where we find the next entrant on this list: Kremser Sportclub. Founded in August 1919 as 1. Krems SC, the club joined the Lower Austrian Football Association a couple of months later, and after around a decade of play the club won its first regional title in 1930. In fact, the club went a step further that year and won the Austrian amateur championship, defeating Grazer AK and FA Turnerbund Lustenau en route. Krems would win three more Landesliga titles between 1931 and 1954, and in 1956 the club won promotion to the Staatsliga A, where they managed to stay for four seasons. Following the dissolution of the Staatsliga B, Krems played in the Regionalliga Ost for six seasons before dropping back to the Landesliga Niederösterreich in 1966. Krems returned to the Regionalliga in 1974 (the same year the Bundesliga was formed) and won promotion again to the 2. Division in 1976, though they only lasted a season. The club bounced between the second tier and the regional leagues for the next few years, but following their promotion back to the 2. Division in 1983, the club would manage to build on their success. By two points the club missed out on promotion to the Bundesliga in 1985, and though in the following two seasons the club had to play in the relegation playoffs, they finished top of the table both times. The 1987-88 season saw Krems qualify for the middle playoff for the first time, where they finished 6th, but even better was to come in the Austrian Cup. There Krems managed to win the competition, defeating the likes of Wiener SC and VfB Mödling before earning the title by beating FC Swarovski Tirol 3-3 on away goals. This qualified Krems for both the Austrian Supercup and the European Cup Winners' Cup, though they didn't have much success in either competition, losing the former to Rapid Vienna on penalties and getting eliminated in the first round of the latter to East German outfit Carl Zeiss Jena 5-1 on aggregate (though they did win the second leg). The 88/89 season was by no means a disaster, however. In the first stage of the league season, Krems topped the 2. Division on goal difference, and a subsequent 4th place finish in the middle playoff secured their place in the Bundesliga.
Krems opened the 1989-90 season with a 3-1 win over First Vienna, and while the club did had to contend with Austria Vienna and Salzburg (losing both those fixtures) in the first month, a 2-0 win over Wiener SC had them in midtable early on. A poor August that saw them pick up just two points from five games (1-1 draws against Sturm Graz and St. Pölten) saw them drop into the bottom four. Krems managed to stop the slide with back-to-back wins over Grazer, but from that point on the name of the game for the Lower Austrians was inconsistency. The games against Grazer was the only time the club won two games in a row, and while the club did earn some emphatic victories such as 5-0 wins over Wiener SC and Admira/Wacker (as well as a comeback 3-3 draw with Rapid Vienna), they failed to capitalize on other games, including a 3-2 loss to Austria Vienna in October where they held the lead twice. They rounded out the Fall season with a 3-0 win over Swarovski Tirol, but thanks to St. Pölten winning their final game against Vorwärts Steyr, Krems finished 9th and thus had to go to the middle playoff to try and stay in the Bundesliga. They managed to do just that, finishing 3rd on 15 points (5-5-4) despite failing to win any of their last five games. In the summer of 1990, Krems managed to acquire the services of Mario Kempes, who remarkably makes a second appearance on this list. Having departed the previous entrants VSE St. Pölten that same year, the Argentine continued his foray in the region, but while still a big name, it became very clear that Kempes was nowhere near the peak of his powers. Kempes only managed to net five goals (including once against his former club) in a campaign that saw the Lower Austrians win just three times during the Fall season. Unsurprisingly the club fell into the middle playoff again, where once again they were more comfortable, finishing second.
Inconsistency would once again be the name of the game for the 91/92 campaign. After drawing First Vienna and defeating Vorwärts Steyr to start, Krems could only manage two points from their next seven games (a 3-1 win over DSV Alpine), sending them from 3rd all the way down to 11th. The club managed to stop the slide somewhat with a 1-0 upset away to Rapid Vienna, and while the best Krems could do in the next four games was manage two 0-0 draws, the losses at least were kept close. Krems went unbeaten in October with a win against Sturm Graz and two draws Austria Vienna and DSV, and another draw against St. Pölten in November brought the Lower Austrians to 8th, giving them hope of avoiding the middle playoffs again. This did not come to pass, though, and Krems proceeded to lose their final four games, including a 6-0 home loss to FC Stahl Linz and a 5-2 away loss to Austria Salzburg. Krems finished the Fall season in 10th, and thus once again had to fight for their survival. The Spring season started slow with a loss and draw to First Vienna and Mödling respectively, though this was followed up by a 5-0 win over Grazer. By the halfway point of the season Krems were 3rd on seven points, but after they failed to win any of their next three games (including a 5-1 loss at home to First Vienna), the club was struggling to maintain their hold. A 1-0 win over Grazer was subsequently followed by a narrow 4-3 loss to LASK, meaning that Kremser essentially had to win their last two games to stay up. Spoiler alert: they did not. They lost away to Wiener SC 3-1 and in the final game of the season they drew DSV 2-2. With that, the club finished 7th on 12 points and were relegated to the 2. Division.
Relegation from the Bundesliga hit Krems incredibly hard. The club finished 12th in the 1992-93 2. Division Fall season, which saw them stay in the division following the restructuring of of the top two divisions. The following season was a disaster, however, as the club finished bottom with just two wins to their name, sending them down to the Regionalliga Ost, followed by a further relegation back to the Landesliga Niederösterreich. It took six seasons for Krems to return to the third tier, where they would play for another six seasons before returning to the Landesliga in 2007. This relegation in particular marked arguably the lowest period in the club's history as both Krems' coach and most of the club's players departed. With the club now clearly struggling, after two seasons Krems were relegated to the 2. Landesliga West - Austria's 5th tier. They returned to the 1. NÖ in 2014 after going the entire 2013-14 campaign unbeaten, winning 23 and drawing 3 while scoring 88 goals and conceding just 15. Krems barely missed out on back-to-back promotions after finishing one point behind ASK Ebreichsdorf in the 14/15 season, and it would take another seven attempts before the club would finally find its way back to the Regionalliga. In the 2021-22 season, they finished runners-up, which sent them to a promotion playoff against Landesliga Burgenland and Wiener Stadtliga runners-up SC/ESV Parndorf and SV Donau Wien respectively. Krems dispatched Parndorf 7-1 and drew Donau 1-1, earning them promotion to the Regionalliga Ost.

Tirol Innsbruck

https://preview.redd.it/33khyt4tx33c1.png?width=192&format=png&auto=webp&s=99b27431cd1c9e67166d2e0bee91df6b6e4a29bd
One of the most successful clubs in Austrian football throughout the late 1960s and 70s was FC Wacker Innsbruck. Founded in 1919 and a founding member of the Tyrolean Football Association, most of the club's pre-WWII history was confined in the Tiroler A-Klasse, and they wouldn't become a part of the Austrian top flight until 1964. From there began the golden age for Wacker. The club won its first major honor in 1970 in the form of the Austrian Cup, qualifying them for their first foray into European competitions in the form of the 1970-71 European Cup Winner's Cup. There they beat Albanian side Partizani before falling to eventual runners-up Real Madrid in the second round. That same season, however, the club won its first league title ahead of Austria Salzburg by a single point, qualifying them for their first European Cup. In July 1971, Wacker merged with WSG Wattens (today WSG Tirol) to form SSW Innsbruck. In the rest of the decade, the club went on to win another four Austrian league titles (including the inaugural Bundesliga title), four more Austrian Cups, and even back-to-back Mitropa Cups in 1975 and 1976, becoming a mainstay in continental tournaments, qualifying for a total of three UEFA Cup Winners' Cups, two UEFA Cups, and five European Cups in that time span. Their European campaigns typically didn't last long, however, often going out in the first round. The furthest SSW made it in any continental campaign was the 1977-78 European Cup, defeating FC Basel of Switzerland and Celtic FC of Scotland before falling to German side Borussia Mönchengladbach in the quarter-finals on away goals. However, not all was well with the club behind the scenes.
After several key players left the club in 1978, Innsbruck fell into a steep decline, resulting in their relegation from the Bundesliga in 1979. They returned in 1981, but couldn't recapture the success of the 70s, failing to win another Bundesliga title and losing consecutive cup finals in 1982 and 1983. They still managed to qualify for European competitions between 1983-1986, but each time they were met with early exits. After mounting financial pressure, it was decided in 1986 that Wacker and WSG would split, dissolving SSW Innsbruck. Around the same time, Gernot Langes-Swarovski, managing director of crystal manufacturer Swarovski founded FC Swarovski Tirol, which acquired SSW's Bundesliga License as well as most of Innsbruck's players. Conversely, Wacker Innsbruck were forced all the way down to the 2. Klasse Mitte - the 8th tier of Austrian Football at the time. Swarovski Tirol played in the Bundesliga for six seasons, winning the Bundesliga twice in 1989 and 1990 and the Austrian Cup in 1989, and qualifying for two UEFA Cups, two European Cups, and a European Cup Winners' Cup. Their debut European campaign - the 1986-87 UEFA Cup - was their best, making it all the way to the semi-finals before losing to eventual winners IFK Göteborg of Sweden. Ultimately, however, continental success wouldn't materialize, and Swarovski Tirol dissolved in 1992 with their Bundesliga license returning to Wacker Innsbruck (at the time in the 4th Tier Tiroler Liga). Wacker played in the 1992-93 Bundesliga season where they finished 5th, and in that same season they won the Austrian Cup 3-1 over Rapid Vienna, though they went out in the first round of the UEFA Cup to Italian side AS Roma. Along with the Bundesliga, Wacker were set to compete in the 1993-94 Cup Winners' Cup and the Intertoto Cup, but due to political pressure from the state of Tyrol, the professional section of Wacker Innsbruck was split off, forming FC Innsbruck Tirol, with Wacker once again demoted to the lower leagues.
The 1993 Intertoto Cup would be the first real action for the spinoff club, ultimately finishing third their group ahead of Silkeborg of Denmark and VfL Bochum of Germany, but behind Slovak side Slovan Bratislava and Swiss side FC Zürich. In terms of meaningful European competitions, Innsbruck Tirol's Cup Winners' Cup campaign (which they participated in courtesy of the efforts of Wacker) was a near mimic of their predecessor's first stint in the competition - defeating Hungarian club Ferencváros in the first round before falling in the second round to who else but Real Madrid. Back in the domestic league, given that Innsbruck Tirol maintained much of Wacker Innsbruck's old squad, no surprise they remained very competitive in the division. Much of the early portion of the season saw the Tiroleans locked in a 4-way title race with Austria Salzburg, Austria Vienna, and Admira/Wacker. A couple of hiccups in form however saw Tirol fall away from rest, ultimately finishing 4th. This was still good enough to earn participation in the 1994-95 UEFA Cup, where they once again went out in the second round, once again to a Spanish side, this time being Deportivo la Coruña. That season's Bundesliga campaign saw a dip in form, seeing the club (who by this time were renamed Tirol Innsbruck) finish 5th despite the efforts of Senegalese striker Souleyman Sané who finished as the league's top scorer with 20 goals. 1995 saw the club once again compete in the Intertoto Cup, which at this point had been taken over by UEFA, now acting as a qualifier for the UEFA Cup. In contrast to their 1994 Intertoto campaign that saw Tirol Innsbruck finish bottom of their group with just a single point, the 1995 edition saw the Austrians nearly go all the way. Grouped alongside French side RC Strasbourg, Turkish side Gençerbirliği SK, Israeli outfit Hapoel Petah Tikva, and Maltese club Floriana FC, Tirol Innsbruck finished as one of the best runners-up, sending them through to the knockouts. There they defeated German clubs FC Köln and Bayer Leverkusen in the round of 16 and quarterfinals respectively, but lost to Strasbourg (again) in the semi-finals. Back in the league, the club managed to improve to a 3rd place finish, though over the next few seasons the club began to slide down the table: 4th in 96/97, 6th in 97/98, and 6th again in 98/99. European campaigns haven't gone much better, with the club getting eliminated in the first round of the 96/97 UEFA Cup by FC Metz and getting dumped in the second qualifying round of the 97/98 UEFA Cup by Celtic.
The 1999-2000 Bundesliga campaign would see a massive turnaround for Tirol Innsbruck. The club won its first seven games straight. A 1-0 loss to Austria Salzburg broke the streak, and the excellent form did falter in the second half of the fall season, winning just two of their last nine games prior to the winter break (including a 5-0 loss to SV Ried), but a strong spring season saw the club clinch their first league title with a record of 24 wins, 5 draws, and 7 losses, beating out Sturm Graz after defeating Austria Vienna 2-1 on the final matchday. This triumph would finally see Champion's League football return to Innsbruck for the first time in a decade, albeit they would have to start in the third qualifying round. The club unfortunately failed to reach the group stage, falling to Valencia 4-1 agg. and sending them down to the first round of the UEFA Cup. There they defeated Fiorentina before falling to VfB Stuttgart in the second round. Despite the lacking European success, Tirol Innsbruck would go on to dominate the Austrian league. The Tiroleans won a second consecutive league title in 00/01, this time doing so on the penultimate matchday with a 2-0 win over Sturm Graz. Polish international Radosław Gilewicz finished as the league's top scorer with 21 goals. Europe still proved to be a challenge, though, and in the third qualifying round of the 2001-02 Champion's League season, Tirol Innsbruck once again were eliminated, this time at the hands of Russian side Lokomotiv Moscow. They dropped again into the UEFA Cup, where they defeated Czech side Viktoria Žižkov before succumbing to the revenge of Fiorentina. Once again they were as strong as ever in the domestic league, and under the reigns of future Germany national team head coach Joachim Löw for much of the campaign, Tirol Innsbruck won a third consecutive Bundesliga title - a feat only achieved by Austria Vienna (and technically Wacker Innsbruck) prior and Red Bull Salzburg since - in dominant fashion, clinching the title four games early and finishing 10 points ahead of second place Sturm Graz. In terms of league play, it seemed like the only one who could stop Tirol Innsbruck would be themselves, and as it happened, that's exactly what transpired. See, achieving all of this success required heavy spending, and by 2002, that spending had finally caught up. The club's wage bill had grown to ~€10 million, and €30 million was put into the construction of the 17,000 seater Tivoli-Neu (now Tivoli Stadion Tirol), which saw an average home attendance of just 10,000. In June 2002, the club failed to post a bond of €4.5 million with the league, and with debts of up to €50 million, Tirol Innsbruck had to try to sell of much of its assets (namely their high profile players) to salvage what they can. This proved to be futile, however, and the club had to file for the largest bankruptcy in the history of Austrian football. The club's Bundesliga lice was revoked, but this time it would be revoked for good, bringing period of 21 consecutive seasons of top-flight football in Tyrol to an end.
But what became of Wacker Innsbruck, you may ask? Well, when we last left Wacker, they had been demoted to the Regionalliga Tyrol - the third tier at the time (the Regionalliga West at this time was a playoff division for clubs from the regional leagues of Salzburg, Tyrol, and Vorarlberg). The goal was to try to earn promotion to the 2. Division, but while the club managed to reach the Regionalliga West playoffs in the 1995-96 season, they finished bottom of the eight team group. This wouldn't be a problem, however, as a league restructuring saw the return of a fully-fledged Regionalliga West for the 96/97 season, which Wacker took part in. Given, however, that Wacker was basically a squad full of amateurs, they performed very poorly, finishing bottom of the table with just five points and were relegated to the Tiroler Liga. By this point, Wacker's president Fritz Schwab, Jr. gave up any ambitions of reaching the second division, and after the 97/98 season the club voluntarily relegated all the way down to the 2. Klasse Mitte. With the sporting and financial condition of Wacker at its breaking point, it was decided in 1999 to merge the club with Tirol Innsbruck's amateur division, seeing the club officially dissolve in May of that year. With Tirol Innsbruck's dissolution in 2002, the Tyrolean government collaborated with Tyrolean businesses to form a new local team, this coming in the form of FC Wacker Tirol. The new club formed a syndicate with WSG Wattens, allowing them to begin life in the Regionalliga West and even win promotion to the Erste Liga that season. Wacker Tirol split from the syndicate following promotion, and in the 03/04 season they won promotion to the Bundesliga. the club changed its name to FC Wacker Innsbruck in 2007 as an homage to its predecessor, though it's important to note that legally they are not a continuation of the old Wacker, and thus do not inherit any of its honors. Wacker were relegated from the Bundesliga in 2008 and have since had two more stints in the top flight: 2010-2014 and 2018-2019. Today Wacker Innsbruck play in the fourth-tier Tiroler Liga following a voluntary relegation from the 2. Liga in 2022. Top flight football wouldn't escape Tyrol forever, though, as WSG Tirol are now the state's representative in the Bundesliga, having been playing there since 2019.

SW Bregenz

The fourth-oldest club from the state of Vorarlberg, Schwarz-Weiß Bregenz were founded in 1919 orignally as FC Bregenz, carrying that name until 1945 when they were force to change it due to the intervention of the French occupying forces following World War II. Bregenz' first dip into top-flight football came in the 1954-55 Staatsliga A season, where they finished bottom with just two wins to their name. The club would enjoy two more stints in the top flight prior to the creation of the Bundesliga, the longest of which lasted between 1966 and 1969 with their highest finish being 6th. The 1970s would see SWB enter into a couple of mergers, the first of which came in 1973, collaborating with FC Rätia Bludenz (who had been promoted to the Nationalliga that year) to form FC Vorarlberg. The new club were immediately relegated and lasted for just another season before disbanding. The second merger came in 1979 when Bregenz (at this point playing in the 2. Division) merged with FC Dorbirn 1913 to form IG Bregenz/Dornbirn. Despite lasting for eight years, however, this new merger was not nearly as successful as the previous one, with the club never reaching the Bundesliga (the closest coming in the 1983-84 season where they missed out on the promotion playoffs on goal difference), and by the end of the collaboration the club were in the 4th tier Landesliga Vorarlberg. Following the end of the syndicate, Bregenz continued on in the Landesliga, earning promotion to the Regionalliga West in 1988. The club played between the third and fourth tiers before finally winning promotion to the 2. Division in 1996. In their first season back in the second division they finished 8th, improving to 5th in the 97/98 season. Then in the 1998-99 season, SWB had an excellent Erste Liga campaign even despite a somewhat shaky start. A 21 match unbeaten streak saw the club move to first in the table by matchday 15, at one point even holding a 14 point lead over the next closest club. Even despite losing on matchday 33, a draw from FCN St. Pölten was enough to see Bregenz clinch the league title and promotion to the Bundesliga with three matches to spare.
The first season in the Bundesliga for SWB was a difficult affair. The state capital side lost their first four games, putting them at the foot of the table. The streak was broken on matchday five with a 1-0 away upset over Austria Salzburg, followed by a 2-1 win at home to LASK. Those results brought them up to 9th, but this would not mean the end for Bregenz' struggles. Between the victory over LASK and the end of the Fall season, Bregenz only managed one more win: 2-0 over Austria Lustenau in October, picking up just four points from the other 14 matches. It took the entirety of march to lift the club from the foot of the table once again, and while the results overall were mixed, Bregenz didn't fall down to 10th again largely due to the utter collapse of Austria Lustenau. The club did go on an impressive four game win streak between April and May with 5-2, 1-0, 4-0, and 5-1 wins over Austria Vienna, Sturm Graz, Lustenau, and Austria Salzburg respectively - results good enough to temporarily get them up to 8th. They ultimately finished 9th on 35 points, 16 ahead of Lustenau. SWB managed to go one better in the 2000-01 season, moving up to 8th, and again in 01/02, finishing 7th and qualifying for the UEFA Intertoto Cup as well as offering a chance to qualify for the 2002-03 UEFA Cup. A UEFA Cup birth would not be in the cards for SWB, though, as after defeating Cypriot side Enosis Neon Paralimni 5-1 agg. in the first round, they were knocked out in the second round by Italian side Torino. The 02/03 league campaign nearly ended in disaster for the Black and White, but 14 points from their last seven games saw the club finish just one point above the relegation zone over SV Ried. The club's fifth season in the Bundesliga would be their best, never finding themselves below 6th in the table at any time. While at tiems struggling for consistency, Bregenz did just enough to finish 5th, qualifying them once again for the UEFA Intertoto Cup.
Bregenz' second and final attempt at a UEFA Cup spot was immediately cut short by a 5-1 agg. loss to Azerbaijani side Khazar Universiteti (today Shamakhi FK) in the first round. This somewhat surprising upset basically set the tone for Bregenz' domestic campaign. Things got off to a torrid start when the club lost their opener 5-1 at home to Rapid Vienna. SWB only earned their first point on matchday four with a 1-1 draw against Wacker Tirol, but not long after the club suffered an embarrassing 9-0 thrashing at home to Austria Vienna - to date the joint-3rd heaviest Bundesliga defeat in history. Bregenz' first win came in September in a 2-1 victory over SV Mattersburg, but victories would become a rarity. The cup didn't fare much better. After needing extra time to fend off FC Kärntern's amateur team, the club were dumped in the second round by third tier side SNK St. Pölten. In the rest of the Fall season, Bregenz did manage to pick up three more wins: 3-2 over Wacker Tirol, 2-1 vs Sturm Graz, and 1-0 over Admira Wacker Mödling. This meant little in the overall picture, however, as with 12 losses already under their belt, Bregenz hadn't left the foot of the table the entire time. That wasn't going to change anytime soon either, as come the Spring portion of the campaign, Bregenz failed to register a single win from 15 games. The club could only manage four measly draws against ASKÖ Pasching, Austria Vienna, and twice against Mattersburg. There wouldn't be any more demolition jobs, but the consistent lack of quality ultimately saw Bregenz' fate sealed on matchday 33 with a 4-1 loss to Rapid Vienna. Bregenz' misfortunes didn't end there, however. Due to the club's increasingly deteriorating finances, the Bundesliga's protest committee revoked Bregenz' license, forbidding them from playing in the top two divisions and forcing them down to the 5th-tier Landesliga. Bregenz challenged the decision in Austria's Permanent Neutral Arbitration Court, but lost. Following the defeat, Bregenz' main sponsor Casinos Austria decided not to extend their contract, and with a failed takeover from Austrian entrepreneur Gerhard Ströhle and debts mounting to upwards of €6.3 million, Bregenz ultimately filed for bankruptcy in June 2005, stating that they had not received expected contributions from the Bundesliga. The proceedings lasted until December 2007, which saw the club dissolve.
In the meantime, however, efforts were made to preserve the club's legacy. In late June 2005, Sportclub Bregenz was founded, taking over the old SWB's amateur and youth teams. Normally a new club would have to start out at the bottom of the Austrian pyramid, but an exception was made by the Vorarlberg Football Association and the club were allowed to begin play in the Landesliga. Starting with a squad mostly made up of 17 and 18 year olds, Bregenz impressed in their first two seasons, winning back-to-back promotions to reach the Regionalliga West in 2007. For the 2009-10 season, Bregenz changed their team colors to black and white from the original blue and white they had donned since the club's creation, and in 2013 the club changed its name to Schwarz-Weiß Bregenz, taking both the name and the badge of its predecessor. The timing of this change could have been better, though, as SWB were relegated from the Regionalliga in the 13/14 season. They returned to the third tier in 2015, only to be immediately relegated that season. It took another three seasons to get the Black and White back to the Regionalliga, but from that point on the club's trajectory was only upwards. With the Regionalliga West having become further regionalized starting in the 2019-20 season, the goal for Bregenz was to find a way to qualify for the Regionalliga West playoffs, which they did in the 2022-23 season after topping the Eliteliga Vorarlberg. After engaging in a tight three-way promotion race with SK Bischofshofen and VfB Hohenems, Bregenz managed to pull ahead and manage to clinch the division title, earning promotion to the 2. Liga for the 2023-24 season.

2023.04.12 20:03 Atticvs Casino Royale/Quantum Of Solace – A Definitive(-ish) Timeline

This thread attempts to explain, amongst many other things, the age-old question of how much time really passes between Casino Royale (CR) and Quantum Of Solace (QoS). (Not the 5m between the very end of CR and the beginning of QoS, but between Vesper’s death and Bond kidnapping Mr White.)
If one really gets into it, there are continuity errors abound, so other timelines are possible – but I’m confident the one below is the most likely and most realistic. Feel free to disagree, of course.
TL;DR: From Vesper’s phone shown at CR 2:18.35 we can surmise Vesper dies on 4 Aug 2006. The first scene in QoS after the Bond theme takes place during the Palio horse race in Siena, Italy, which is held twice-a-year – always on 2 Jul and 16 Aug irrespective of day of the week. We know the race shown in QoS is the 16 Aug one from Bond and Camille’s invite to Dominic Greene’s party at QoS 56:03, which is a few days later and the date on the invite is shown as 23 Aug. (The invite actually shows 23 Aug 2008, not 2006, but for reasons below – especially CR’s last entry here – it’s unlikely that 2y passed between the two movies, and it’s probably a continuity error on the invite.)
If you’re interested in the full timeline, read on!
Casino Royale
Unknown – Bond kills Dryden in Prague. From the seasonal setting, it looks to be winter, although M’s comments at CR 21:41 suggest it needed to happen closer to the main events than, say, Feb 2006. Probably a continuity error.
Thu, 6 Jul 2006, evening – Bond and Carter take on a mission to capture a bomb-maker in Madagascar. Evidence: The date is shown on the bomb-maker’s phone at CR 19:25. Continuity error: When Le Chiffre checks the news of Bond killing an unarmed prisoner at CR 21:17, the laptop screen shows it to be the 28th of the month. There will be more evidence of the 6 July timeline being more fitting below, so I will consider that one going forward, but as mentioned above, feel free to disagree.
Fri, 7 Jul 2006, afternoon – News of Bond killing the bomb-maker at the Nambutu embassy breaks. Le Chiffre states that the bomb-maker’s mission needs to conclude in less than 36h. (9 Jul, midnight) M is called in for a government hearing in London. Bond flies home.
Fri, 7 Jul 2006, evening – Bond breaks into M’s apartment and finds out the bomb-maker was instructed via SMS from Nassau on the Bahamas. M sends Bond on leave.
Sat, 8 Jul 2006 – Bond flies to Nassau overnight, lands in the morning. He goes for a swim in the afternoon and plays poker with Mr Dimitrios in the evening. Mr Dimitrios takes the last flight to Miami and Bond tails him.
Sun, 9 Jul 2006, midnight – Skyfleet unveils their S570 prototype at the Miami airport. Bond stops Mr Dimitios’ terrorist from blowing up the airplane. Evidence: The date is shown on the terrorist’s phone at CR 53:19. The events since 6 Jul fit naturally between this evidence and the previous one. (Just about, with Le Chiffre’s 36h window) Continuity error: Again, when a website is being viewed for news, this time by M in London, for the Skyfleet story, the screen shows it to be different, on 28 Jun 2006. This can’t be on the same day as the previous 28th of the month seen (nights pass), nor can it be 1+ month later (due to the 36h constraint), proving the continuity error theory.
Sun, 9 Jul 2006, morning – Bond flies back to Nassau with M and the MI6 team, finds Mr Dimitrios’ wife murdered and debriefs over Le Chiffre setting up a high-stakes poker game at Casino Royale in Montenegro.
Tue, 11 Jul 2006, evening – Bond takes an overnight train to Montenegro and meets Vesper in the dinner car. Evidence: There is no hard evidence, but a day must have passed for Bond to fly back to London (from his attires, he repacked his bags) and get on the train to Montenegro. (The CR script reveals he took a helicopter as far as the Alps, presumably from London, so he did travel quickly.) They likely did not drop more days than necessary as Le Chiffre was in a hurry to get his money back.
Wed, 12 Jul 2006 – Bond and Vesper check in at Hotel Splendide in Montenegro and meet Mathis in the city. First night of Le Chiffre’s poker game that ends with one of Le Chiffre’s client killed by Bond and Bond and Vesper sitting in the shower. Bond meets Leiter.
Thu, 13 Jul 2006 – Second night of Le Chiffre’s poker game that ends with Bond winning the game, Le Chiffre kidnapping and torturing him and Vesper and being ultimately shot dead by Mr White. (May be 14 Jul, early morning.) Leiter and the Americans take Le Chiffre’s body.
Fri, 14 Jul 2006 – Bond is in hospital with his injuries. He is in and out of consciousness.
Mon, 17 Jul 2006, morning – Bond is transferred to a facility at Lake Como, Italy. MI6 captures Mathis. Evidence: The CR script describes Bond in this scene as “a few days stronger.”
Mon, 17 Jul 2006, afternoon – Monsieur Mendel takes Bond’s username and password at Lake Como for winning the poker game. Bond and Vesper get closer to each other. The CIA connects Le Chiffre with Greene off-screen, begins monitoring his activities in South America and assigns Leiter to help Beam. Evidence: Bond still sits outside the Lake Como buildings, but the weather is different to the previous scene and he wears different clothes. Unlikely to be 18 Jul for the evidences below. The CIA must have done the above steps around this time so they can monitor multiple pipeline purchases by Greene. (And Greene has time to build his underground dams.)
Tue, 1 Aug 2006 – Bond and Vesper have sex in the Lake Como facility, Bond presumably having made a full recovery from his groin injuries. Evidence: The CR script marks this to be “weeks later,” and 1 Aug seems to fit both that, the previous scene and the overall timeline.
Wed, 2 Aug 2006 – Bond is released from the hospital. Bond and Vesper take to the coast of the Adriatic Sea.
Thu, 3 Aug 2006 – Bond and Vesper rent a yacht and spend the day on the sea and on the beach, having their conversation about Bond’s “armor” and M wouldn’t be missing Bond for a couple of days. Continuity error: The CR script errouneously marks the latter scene and the sea outside Venice later on as the Aegean Sea. They probably meant Adriatic Sea.
Fri, 4 Aug 2006 – Bond and Vesper sail into Venice. Bond resigns from MI6. They check into their hotel and have sex immediately. Vesper takes to the bank to pay Mr White via an intermediary in exchange for sparing Bond’s life in Montenegro. Bond kills the intermediary and his goons. Vesper dies. Mr White walks away with the money. Bond returns to the yacht with Vesper’s belongings and debriefs with M who welcomes him back at MI6. Mathis is still held captive by MI6. Evidence: The date is shown on Vesper’s phone at CR 2:18.35. The events since 1 Aug fit naturally between this evidence and the previous one. M's comment at CR 2:17.08 makes it clear they still have Mathis in custody at this point.
Wed, 16 Aug 2006 – Bond does not return to London, and tracks down Mr White’s whereabouts alone, based on Mr White’s mobile number that Vesper left for him. He succeeds a few days before 16 Aug, informs M to set up a safehouse at Siena for interrogation ASAP, and takes out Mr White at the latter’s villa before the credits roll. Mathis is released by MI6 latest this time and compensated with his Talamone villa for false accusations. Evidence 1: The first scene in QoS after the Bond theme takes place during the Palio horse race in Siena, Italy, which is held twice-a-year – always on 2 Jul and 16 Aug irrespective of day of the week. We know the race shown in QoS is the 16 Aug one from Bond and Camille’s invite to Dominic Greene’s party at QoS 56:03, which is a few days later and the date on the invite is shown as 23 Aug. Evidence 2: M’s remarks to Bond at QoS 7:48 very strongly suggest M wasn’t aware of Bond’s plan to kidnap Mr White up until the very last days, hence the assumption that Bond worked alone since Vesper’s death and only informed M about the safehouse requirement very late. M’s further remark at QoS 8:05 also suggests she had not seen Bond for quite a while by then. She would have probably also shared the details of her investigation into Vesper’s boyfriend earlier, had they been in contact, dispelling theories that 1-2y passed between the two movies.
Quantum Of Solace
Wed, 16 Aug 2006 – Bond kills Mr White’s goons in a car chase en route to Siena. Bond and M interrogate Mr White during the Palio, but they are interrupted by Mitchell. Mr White escapes and Bond kills Mitchell. Evidence: See evidence 1 for the last entry of CR above.
Thu, 17 Aug 2006 – MI6 searches Mitchell’s apartment. Bond and M reviews the evidence at the MI6 HQ and make the connection between Mitchell and Slate. Bond is informed about Mathis off-screen.
Fri, 18 Aug 2006 – Bond flies to Port-au-Prince, Haiti overnight, kills Slate, assumes his identity and tails Camille to Greene’s base. Camille is captured by Medrano, but Bond rescues her.
Sat, 19 Aug 2006 – Bond follows Greene to Bregenz, Austria. The CIA makes a deal with Greene during the flight via Beam and Leiter. Quantum, the Tierra project and several key members of the organization are exposed by Bond during the Tosca opera in Bregenz. (Evidence: It's an 18-hour flight from Port-au-Prince to Austria, so the opera must have been next day evening.) Bond reported to have killed a member of special branch. M restricts Bond’s cards and passports. Continuity: Greene and Bond flying back from Port-au-Prince in the afternoon to a Friday night opera in Bregenz is very tight, but Bond wears the same clothes upon arrival - and Greene changes clothes during the flight - so I assume they went there straight.
Sun, 20 Aug 2006 – Bond either hitchhikes or uses his own card to hire a car to travel from Bregenz to Talamone, Italy, where he asks Mathis for passport, matching credit card and help in general.
Tue, 22 Aug 2006 – Bond and Mathis fly to La Paz, Bolivia overnight, having spent the previous two days to prepare for the mission. They reminisce over the events of CR over Bond’s cocktails. Evidence: No hard date for this one, but once again, Bond’s attire suggests what happened – He changed it completely from his Bregenz suit, so he either flew home under cover to repack his bags (unlikely, due to airport CCTV) or spent time with Mathis to prepare.
Wed, 23 Aug 2006 – Bond and Mathis arrive in La Paz, meet Miss Fields and check in the Andean Grand Hotel. Mathis re-establishes his relationship with Carlos and gets themselves invited to Greene’s party. Night of Greene’s party, culminating in Mathis getting beaten and shot dead by the corrupt local police, Bond compromised in the eyes of MI6 and the CIA and driving off with Camille to investigate the Tierra project. Evidence: The date on Bond and Camille’s invite to Greene’s party at QoS 56:03 is shown as 23 Aug. (The invite actually shows 23 Aug 2008, not 2006, but for reasons above – especially CR’s last entry here – it’s unlikely that 2y passed between the two movies, and it’s probably a continuity error on the invite.)
Thu, 24 Aug 2006 – Bond and Camille perform recon over Greene’s land in the desert and fall into a sinkhole after being shot down. Bond discovers one of Greene’s underground dams. Bond and Camille take a bus to La Paz and escape the joint forces of MI6 and the CIA. Miss Fields is killed by Greene's men. Bond meets Leiter who informs him about Greene, Medrano and Carlos’ meeting at the Perla de las Dunas hotel.
Fri, 25 Aug 2006 – Bond and Camille infiltrate the Perla de las Dunas hotel and kill everyone bar Greene. Bond interrogates Greene for the whereabouts of Vesper’s boyfriend and leaves Greene to die in the desert. Bond takes Camille to a train station where they depart.
Unknown (late Sep 2006?) – Bond captures Vesper’s boyfriend in Kazan, Russia, but spares his life. Similar to the opening scene in CR, from the seasonal setting it looks to be winter, although Kazan usually sees snow from late Sep onwards. M’s comments at QoS 1:40.35 suggests this scene happens a maximum of a few days after the main events, about the time gap between Vesper’s death and CR’s final scene. Probably a small continuity error.
So there you have it – The two movies still interconnect very closely, even if we take into account the 1 ½ weeks passing between Vesper’s death and CR’s final scene. Ultimately, QoS is a much better Bond movie if considered (or even watched) together with CR as CR provides a lot of backstories and motivations for QoS as well as providing insight into Bond’s state of mind during the latter. This guide just chronologizes the two to try to prove that they do indeed fit close together in time and so can be considered one long experience. Thanks if you managed to get through the entire post, I appreciate it.

2020.12.23 17:59 ProbablyTheWurst Putting Bond's revenge against Quantum at the centre of Quantum of Solace

Saw the post mentioning that no one has attempted to give Quantum of Solace a rewrite and decided to give it a shot. It was actually harder than I thought. Rewatching it I think many of the film’s issues comes from the director writer than writing. I think the generally plotting of the film is fairly decent, especially giving the ongoing writer’s strike at the time. The main issue is that there’s effectively two films going on: One in which Bond is hunting down Quantum seeking revenge for Vesper and one in which Bond goes rogue in order to stop the CIA financing a coup d’etat in Boliva. My main goal was to try better merge them into a more cohesive story. In particular I want to give Vesper’s former lover, Yusuf Kabira, (ie the reason she betrays Bond and then gets murdered in Casino Royale) more of a role, rather than just having him be relegated to a single scene at the end of the film.

The Changes

· Making Yusuf Kabira, Vesper’s former lover, a major character, effectively serving as the main henchman of the film
· Changing Camille’s backstory. Instead of being a Bolivian agent she’s the daughter of the current Bolivian president and she’s has also been seduced by Kabira. Quantum’s plan is to expose the relationship between the President’s daughter and a foreign agent, thus creating a political scandal that will pre-empt a coup d’état by General Medrano.
· We cut Dominic Greene and the Plot To Steal Bolivar’s Water entirely. We give most of Greene’s role to Mr White.
· Finally, we are going to play up the whole Bond Versus the CIA thing. Lets try and use Jefferey Wright more and give Felix a bit of a redemption arc

The new plot

We are going to cut the opening car chase entirely and start with Bond driving into the Sienna safehouse having captured Mr White at the end of Casino Royale. Waiting inside the safehouse are M and another agent called Yusuf Kabira. Bond can greet Kabira saying something like “How was Bolivia?” and he replies with something witty like “Very stimulating”. The interrogation goes the same way as the original as Kabira is revealed to be a double agent and helps Mr White escape. Bond chases Kabira across the rooftops of Sienna. They can briefly fight but Kabira is able to escape. Cut to the opening title sequence.
After the titles we see MI6 investigating Kabira’s London apartment. In a secret compartment they discovered files on Vesper Lynd including photos of Kabira and Vesper together. Bond is visibly shaken by this information and M asks him if Bond can be trusted to keep his feelings separate from his job. Bond assures M he will. He also suggests looking into Kabira’s recent mission in Bolivar. When they do, they discover that Kabira was having frequent meetings with a mysterious woman at a particular hotel and will soon meet her again.
Kabira meets the mysterious woman, who we learn is called Camille, in the hotel in Santa Cruz, Boliva. The two are clearly lovers. They go to their room but are ambushed by Bond waiting for them there. We then basically get the scene from the end of Quantum of Solace where Bond reveals who Kabira is to Camille and shows her the necklace he gave to Vesper, identical to one Kabira’s given to Camille. Camille is obviously shocked by this revelation. At gunpoint Bond orders the two of them into a car to drive to an airfield where MI6 is waiting to arrest Kabira. In the car Kabira taunts Bond about Vesper. The car is soon stopped by members of the Bolivian military led by a General Medrano.
Bond now finds himself being captured as he is separated from Kabira and Camille and taking to a different site. There he discovers Felix Leiter and several other CIA agents. Initially Bond is pleased to see an ally but quickly realises that Felix and the CIA are working with Medrano and Kabira. Leiter tries to justify himself saying that things are more complicated than they seem, and that MI6 has no business getting involved in Bolivia. He also reveals that Camille is the daughter of the Bolivian president. He pleads with Bond to go back to London and forget about what he has seen. Bond refuses and escapes leading to a chase between Bond and the CIA. Bond is able to make his way to the airfield where he leaves Bolivia, dejected after failing to capture Kabira and avenge Vesper.
We then see Leiter meeting with White and Medrano. This pretty much resembles the scene from the original film where the CIA strikes a non-interference deal with the pair in exchange for the USA gaining access to Bolivian oil. After Leiter leaves, Medrano tells White that he has held up his end of the bargain and accuses White of unnecessarily delays. White argues that they need the support of the other partners of “his organisation” before they can go ahead, and Medrano replies that perhaps he should speak to White’s partners in person.
MI6 discover that Medrano has booked a ticket to see an opera in Bregenz, Austria and Bond goes to investigate. We then get the scene from the original film where the leaders of Quantum have their meeting during the Opera. Medrano is also at the meeting and we hear the Quantum members give their assent to go ahead with Medrano and White’s plan to expose the relationship between Camille and Kabira (who will be presented as a British spy) thus creating a political scandal which will cause a crisis allowing Medrano to seize power. Afterwards Medrano will allow Quantum to take control of Bolivia’s oil fields. With Medrano is Camille who is clearly being held there against her will. When she excuses herself to go to the bathroom Medrano sends one of his men to watch her. Camille still attempts to escapes and Bond intervenes helping her but blowing his cover in the process and gets caught in a very public shoot out with Medrano’s men. Medrano and the other members of Quantum escape.
We then cut to London where we see M getting a dressing down from the foreign secretary in the aftermath of the shooting in Austria. The foreign secretary tells M that the Prime Minister has bowed to American pressure and order that all MI6 operations in South America be terminated. With no choice M calls Bond and orders him to return to England but Bond of course refuses. M once again asks if his desire to get revenge on Kabira for Vesper’s death is affecting his decision-making. Bond hangs up.
In a safehouse Bond and Camille watch as news of Camille’s relationship with Kabira makes international headlines and the crisis Medrano and White engineered begins to take shape. Bond and Camille open up to each other, with Bond hinting at his past with Vesper. They resolve to return to Bolivia and attempt to prevent Medrano’s coup d’état. Without MI6 aid Bond turns to Rene Mathis who, after being acquitted of being a double agent following Casino Royale, is living in retirement in the south of France. Mathis agrees to help them, and they use his private jet to fly to Bolivia.
As they reach Bolivian airspace two American fighter jets begin tailing them, ordering them to land. Bond, Mathis and Rene agree that their only option is to abandon the plane only to learn there’s only one parachute onboard. Mathis tells Bond and Camille to escape while he leads the Americans away, sacrificing himself. Bond tries to protest. Mathis tells Bond that Vesper did love him. As Bond and Camille cling to each other with the parachute they see Mathis’ plane get shot down.
Once they land, they make their way to Bolivia’s capital La Paz. Felix contacts Bond for a meeting, effectively offering a brief truce. Camille tells Bond its a trap, but Bond decides to go anyway. They meet in a bar and Bond is able to convince Felix that Medrano will betray the CIA and give Quantum access to the Bolivan oil fields. Felix tells Bond that they are currently being watched by other CIA agents and as soon as Bond leaves, they will try to kill him. Felix gives Bond a location to go to if he survives. Evading the American agents Bond goes to this location and discovers Felix has left him a file detailing the CIA’s involvement in the impending coup d’état.
We then see tanks rolling into La Paz as the Medrano’s coup d’état begins. Medrano arrives at the state television station to announce his takeover. Bond and Camille race to the station to try to stop him. Fighting their way through Medrano’s men they are confronted by Kabira. Bond and Kabira get locked in a one-on-one shootout as Camille goes to take on Medrano alone. She finds the studio where Medrano is broadcasting the announcement of his new rule. His men have all left to stop Bond leaving Medrano all alone. Camille shoots Medrano and starts showing the Felix’s evidence of the CIA’s involvement.
Mr White, watching this unfold, orders the broadcast be stopped by any means necessary. The tanks outside the television station suddenly begin firing on the building, reducing it to rubble.
We cut back to Bond and Kabira who are now fighting hand-to-hand. As the building starts to collapse Kabira becomes trapped under falling debris. In desperation he reaches out to Bond. Bond holds out his hand, only to drop Vesper’s necklace in front of him. He leaves Kabira to die. Finding Camille, the two escape the collapsing television station.
They go to the Bolivian Presidential Palace as the Bolivian military either retreats or surrenders around them. There Camille’s family is waiting. The two kiss before parting ways.
Cut to a few weeks later Bond meets Leiter on the National Mall in Washington D.C. Leiter tells Bond that Mr White and the other members of Quantum have all gone underground and can’t be found. Bond asks Leiter if he’s been reprimanded for the whole Bolivian affair and Leiter replies he’s being sent on a dead-end assignment to San Monique. The two part as friends. As Felix leaves Bond receives a call from M about his next mission.

2019.01.26 21:28 bonjoviworstbandever This isn't Football - A Treatise on the Austrian League

In the twilight of his illustrious career having been Bundesliga top scorer for Werder Bremen, "Kugelblitz" Ailton found himself looking for another paycheck. Aptly named Austrian side Cashpoint Altach thought, what the hell. Let's send him an offer, worst thing is we get rejected. To their surprise he signed, probably thinking: it's just a bit further south, they speak German too, how different can it be.

He was in for a rude awakening.

After getting beaten 0:1 by SV Josko-Windows Ried in front of a measly 5000 people in the Cashpoint "Arena" he did not mince words to the camera crew.

I have 35 years old, I have played football for a long time. But I have never seen a game like today. For me that's not professional team, not professional football. Incredible. I have one hour maybe, no shoot on goal, no ball for me, no pass. The team doesn't know which position on the field, no system, nothing. I have never seen football like today.
How difficult was it, you didn't even have an opportunity to shoot.
Is difficult, for a striker this football, is hard. The best striker in the world playing in a team like this is no goal, is unbelieve. Only long ball, long ball. This isn't football. This isn't football.
  What has to improve?
Is no idea, I don't know. Maybe back to Brazil! (laughs)

I knew exactly what he meant.

As a little kid in a football-lacking household my godfather took me to my first game. On the 17th of May 2004 Rapid Vienna faced the now defunct (a running theme here) Casino Bregenz. Literally nothing happened. Your typical Austrian league match makes me question my conclusion but I still think this is the worst game I have ever seen. See for yourself
My love for this sport could have ended there and then. (Might explain why this little kid started liking Liverpool. I'm a plastic but I've made my bed. Now I thank the gods I lie in it.)

So it sure isn't the quality on the pitch, why do foreign players then even bother coming here?

After all Sadio Mane put up with this, Naby Keita put up with this, Mario Kempes, Antonin Panenka, Trifon Ivanov and Maradona.
Yes THE Maradona graced the league for a little while. At least genetically speaking in form of his brother Hugo.
Even Keisuke Honda is invested in Austrian football. He bought 2rd division side SV Horn, probably with limited success. (I say probably, I tried searching for the table on their website, it says "The requested page could not be found") I've heard the locals aren't too fond of the sushi either.

Is it the thrill of playing in front of packed stadiums?

The average attendance is 6-7000, skewed by heavyweights Rapid. As many as seven teams are below 5000 (an eighth just above 5k), the lowest: SV Mattersburg with 2039. And this is the average attendance we're talking about, 530 people turned up to their first cup game.

At least the facilities should be good right? I mean it's a top division in Europe.

Imagine you're playing for TSV Prolactal Hartberg.
Your home ground is the 4500 seat Profertil Arena you need to endure 11 times a season. 6000 people live in that town. Profertil by the way, their slogan is "Speed for Sperm", widely displayed on their kits.

What is it then, why does this shitshow exist?

The thing is, no matter where you are, no matter how shit the match is, you're still watching football. It's an intrinsic part of our lives. Nothing beats getting plastered and watching a game with your mates. My friends and I have a soft spot for Mattersburg because they're known for paticularly shit football (and that says something) and the fact that their main supporter stand literally is a grassy knoll. It's great fun to pretend like you're ultras there, next to two bewildered natives and the opposition goalkeeper who you are screaming obscenities at for 45 minutes straight.
Probably the only thing world class in Austria is the support of a handful of clubs. Visiting Rapid Vienna's ground, a friend from Frankfurt who came along first described it as a children's birthday party compared to them but still left feeling impressed. We were in the ultra sector for this game https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVTv7S7oqgw
Cheap tickets, safe standing, singing all game, you can stand wherever you want, people all around you drinking beer, smoking cigarettes and weed, pyro – a far cry from the sanitised environment of the Premier League. As a supporter I go to the ground wanting to influence the game as much as possible. And there I get the feeling this is what I want Liverpool to have.

Maybe the league isn't so bad after all.
Hope you enjoyed my ramble about this strange place. I see a lot of anti-ultra sentiment on this sub ("they're just hooligans" that sort of thing), which especially from an English perspective I can understand. But if you ever find yourself on the continent take a peek at what it looks like first hand. I've been to Anfield so it's not like I'm completely in the dark about what English stadiums are like.
