1-2

Nouns vs G2.iG

Nouns: 2-1 vs AR, 1-2 vs FLC, 0-2 vs Spirit
G2.iG: 0-2 vs Liquid, 1-2 vs Secret, 2-1 vs AR
https://preview.redd.it/9wizpg0kb90d1.png?width=500&format=png&auto=webp&s=9b94341b57b3d20b417cef23ab45fb38e4028f90
The good part for Nouns was Zeus had a Rampage in the 20th minute. The bad part was the rest of the game. Nouns got absolutely destroyed. The Monkey King did not get to play dota. Magnus had MK's number in this one. The supports + Mag absolutely owned the opposition. The Enchantress eventually turned into a 4th core and had a much better impact than anyone on Radiant. This was a game to forget for the North American squad. G2.iG 1-0 Nouns.
https://preview.redd.it/goujnq9mb90d1.png?width=500&format=png&auto=webp&s=b46ad9e653031979139f7108a62e77ff94b92efa
Game 2 was an extension of the first game. Nouns never really looked like they were in the running to win it. The Storm Spirit had a horrible start, back-to-back deaths because of Marci's visit really hampered Copy's game. The Storm was easily controlled and killed throughout this one. Boboka's Marci showed us that it's not only xinQ who can make her look busted as a support. All 3 cores on G2.iG did as they pleased while their counterparts struggled to be of any relevance to the game. I thought Nouns were making good progress as a team but this elimination series shows quite the contrary and now, they bow out disappointingly. G2.iG were dominant across the 2 games and prolonged their tournament lives. G2.iG 2-0 Nouns.

Liquid vs Mouz

Liquid: 2-0 vs G2.iG, 0-2 vs XG, 0-2 vs SR
Mouz: 1-2 vs Aurora, 2-0 vs AR, 0-2 vs BB
https://preview.redd.it/bfrcwacvb90d1.png?width=500&format=png&auto=webp&s=11ad33e1dbf752d0e1d1698ac632f098cc20f583
Game 1 was a complete destruction. Liquid had an incredible amount of ranged damage. Mouz had a hard time getting to their enemy heroes alive and even when they made it, they were easily disposed of. The last pick Bristleback was a complete non-factor. He lost his lane. He had the most deaths in the game. He was innately countered by Hoodwink. The opponents had so much damage that didn't care if he was broken or not. He couldn't really participate in fights. Mouz were outclassed. Liquid 1-0 Mouz.
https://preview.redd.it/kceumz4yb90d1.png?width=500&format=png&auto=webp&s=4c66aa33116bd33cac2e5fe2a889fd649dd3e24a
Mouz were active early on. Their aggression did get rewarded and they gave themselves a good shot to win the game. But once the game dragged on, it became clear that Liquid had the upper hand. The vision game with traps and rockets favored Liquid. The initiation was better with Clock and Bat. The Pango was heavily countered by the Bloodseeker. Mouz had good healing over time but TA's heavy damage outdid their healing. A lot was on the shoulder of Force's Doom to get in and Doom the right target but that was rarely enough and there was also an Oracle who was ready to save his team. In the end, Mouz fought valiantly but it wasn't enough. Liquid were better and have survived elimination. Liquid 2-0 Mouz.

Secret vs VP

Secret: 0-2 vs GG, 2-1 vs G2.iG, 1-2 vs Boom
VP: 0-2 vs Spirit, 1-2 vs SR, 2-0 vs Heroic
https://preview.redd.it/1lcp1qsic90d1.png?width=500&format=png&auto=webp&s=d64549d474a0e2ca98ed837e21ce958e6591dcd9
Secret's last pick KotL for Kordan did wonders for his team. He was very active and set the tempo but VP kept it close. The scales tipped in the favor of Secret in the 14th minute when an overzealous VP squad fell flat in their attempt at Leshrac's life. VP lost 3 heroes there but Rubick's stolen Glimpse led to another 2 core kills on the map which meant an extended team wipe. Secret would get so much momentum from these events. The introduction of BKBs pre-20 minutes on Muerta and KotL gave VP no chance in the teamfights. Secret made the carry Muerta look viable. With an Io tether and Pierce The Viel used, VP could not stand up and fight, instead, they melted. Secret brought a new flavor to the table and it worked. Secret 1-0 VP.
https://preview.redd.it/gb81946lc90d1.png?width=500&format=png&auto=webp&s=0de9b76879ece210b1c7efef9ccdbb2832023267
Secret went with KotL again and Kordan did his thing early on. He was going around and creating chaos around the map. It felt like a repeat but VP knew better. Naix avoided death and farmed at his pace. VP endured and the rest was the Antares show. The Batrider was incredible in getting in and pulling key targets towards their demise. At the 24th minute, a key Lasso into Arrow pickoff on Weaver unlocked Roshan and the rest of the map. Secret were no longer safe. Ezalor, who wants to be freely moving around the map blasting waves and heroes, no longer had that luxury. The Keeper became the victim of multiple Lasso plays. Secret had no response to the Bat and the rest of VP had no problems taking over. VP 1-1 Secret.
https://preview.redd.it/byt38c5pc90d1.png?width=500&format=png&auto=webp&s=6e1787786d1f08f0e10f231118d08936d1cffe9d
This should be the standard for elimination matches. The game started with VP getting a respectable advantage. Crystallis' Naix was struggling and didn't look like he could recover but the DK and Timbersaw kept the game within reach. After consecutive missteps from VP, Secret took advantage and were able to get all but one racks bot. After getting the 3rd Rosh, Secret finally claimed Mega Creeps at the ~49th minute but it cost them 5 lives. Secret then made multiple attempts at the throne but every time they came close to it, they got burned. Antares' Flaming Lasso was able to drag his targets towards Lina with a Rapier. Secret were scorched at each attempt. The breakthrough finally happened when VP decidedly wanted to make a Boots of Travel play to their Batrider and just brute force their way to killing the Dire's Ancient even through backdoor protection. Secret were able to TP and defend their base. VP lost all their heroes in the process and 2 had no buyback (Lina & Rubick). VP tried to do the same play with the remaining 3 heroes but that was never going to work. Secret live to fight another day while VP are now eliminated. Secret 2-1 VP.

Scores at first break: Will $1,000, Michael -$200, Joyce $2,000.
Scores entering DJ: Will $2,400, Michael -$400, Joyce $5,200.
Double Jeopardy!
LITERARY TITLE OCCUPATIONS // ____ FROM THE ____ // COLONIAL AMERICA // LEXICONGRESS // MEN OF MEDICINE // TV'S FANTASTICAL PLACES
DD2 - $1,600 - MEN OF MEDICINE - In 1853 this British anatomist wrote "On the Structure and Use of the Spleen"; his more famous work came 5 years later (Will added $1,000 to his leading score of $7,200.)
DD3 - $2,000 - LEXICONGRESS - Jason Smith currently holds this title that includes the name of the legislature of the United Kingdom (Will added $4,000 to his total of $13,400 vs. $7,600 for Joyce.)
Will was correct on both DDs in DJ, building just enough of a lead to lock down a runaway at $18,600 vs. $9,200 for Joyce. Michael had a chance to stick around for FJ on the last clue but missed, ending at -$400.
Final Jeopardy!
CINEMA HISTORY - Films made outside the U.S. in the ’50s like “Three Coins in the Fountain” & “Quo Vadis” led to an era dubbed “Hollywood on” this river

2-0

XG vs Aurora

XG: 2-0 vs Boom, 2-0 vs Liquid
Aurora: 2-1 vs Mouz, 2-0 vs BetBoom
https://preview.redd.it/cgsuumydo30d1.png?width=500&format=png&auto=webp&s=989e54e90118ed588f0c5cdcdda24da5d591e3bc
Aurora weren't able to properly slow down XG early on so in the latter stages, the team with the better teamfight feasted. The clashes were one-sided. All 3 cores on XG had good reach so the Sniper wasn't threatening. You don't want to go late against Ame's Faceless Void if you don't have the proper saves. The Aegis was never an option for Aurora as XG secured every Rosh of the game. This was an outclass from XG. XG 1-0 Aurora.
https://preview.redd.it/2bamvk9go30d1.png?width=500&format=png&auto=webp&s=926673b22c0dd6dfda78299e704c7f3acbe4b961
Zeus said it best. "You can't run from Heaven!" Paired with a Spectre, the global assassination duo showed no mercy. 23's Drow Ranger had a miserable time. The longer the game went, the easier it was for XG to bring their enemies down. Timber was the only one who could stand up front but with great single-target control in Grip and Doom, even Timber couldn't survive. Once Zeus had his Refresher Orb, he didn't even need help to bring down the opposition. He just needed a Tormentor notification to unleash his wrath. XG were on a different level and it showed. They are now the first team to qualify for the next round. XG 2-0 Aurora.

Gaimin Gladiators vs Falcons

GG: 2-0 vs Secret, 2-1 vs Spirit
FLC: 2-0 vs Heroic, 2-1 vs Nouns
https://preview.redd.it/vdh4yf42p30d1.png?width=500&format=png&auto=webp&s=bd0853d357279c51773d58c86ae24cc13b8da7a1
This is one of the rare instances where Falcons lost all of their lanes and could not stop the opposition's snowball. The DK suffered throughout the game. Ammar's Razor couldn't get anything going. The Sven couldn't buy a kill. Falcons got run over. The Weaver did as he pleased, crawling anywhere he wanted on the map. He had no fear and for good reason, Falcons needed at least 4 heroes to bring him down. Quinn's first pick Sniper dominated from start to finish. The Sniper was so far ahead, he could jump into his enemies' faces and survive while massacring them. This was all Gladiators. GG 1-0 FLC.
https://preview.redd.it/h844i864p30d1.png?width=500&format=png&auto=webp&s=158ef1359ccf1ec49cf068faf15466b7382f8264
Falcons respond in force. They saw the first pick Sniper again and this time they put Zeus to face him. Quinn no longer enjoyed the same luxuries from the previous game. Falcons picked DK for Skiter and he did wonders as he had a flawless performance. Ammar got his signature Timber and wherever he went, death followed for Gaimin. Having an offlane Pudge, whose best possible contribution in fights was to save his teammate with Hooks, certainly didn't help. The Sniper fell behind and was tickling the opposition with his right clicks. The Clinkz was the only hero that could roam because Gaimin managed to get the Gem from the opposition but he still had to play with extreme caution and his overall impact in fights was negligible. Falcons almost had a 40-kill lead at the end. This was brutal. FLC 1-1 GG.
https://preview.redd.it/q4tc7nz5p30d1.png?width=500&format=png&auto=webp&s=4940095c1a3fb371dd1c735f590db7921fe1650d
Gaimin looked to have this one in the bag. They had a healthy advantage early on and Falcons didn't have the greatest saves for Chrono. But this is where Cr1t comes in. You don't need saves if you can stop Void from using his ult. The Clockwerk was masterful when it came to catching and controlling the Void. Cr1t made Dyrachyo look like a B-Tier carry out there. With Void out of the way, it was a simple cleanup job for the rest of the Falcons. One bad fight in the Dire's triangle at the 37th minute where all 3 cores of Gaimin went down + 2 lanes of racks crumbled was the beginning of the end for the Gladiators. Gaimin made 1 more attempt to get Roshan, and they did get all of his spoils, but the cost was the lives of TA + Ench and a buyback on Void. The game was out of reach at that point. Falcons deservedly go through to the playoffs. FLC 2-1 GG.

1-1

Liquid vs Shopify Rebellion

Liquid: 2-0 vs G2.iG, 0-2 vs XG
SR: 0-2 vs BB, 2-1 vs VP
https://preview.redd.it/mt3jjo3qp30d1.png?width=500&format=png&auto=webp&s=7d69b2a2a6679a6727bed8d87ef1e293c28dd8d2
The way Liquid were being stomped, you'd think they were playing in a Major Grand Final. Shopify were merciless. They were like a school of sharks, wherever there was blood being spilled on the map, their entire team would swoop in and participate in the frenzy. Liquid were completely outmatched. The last pick Tidehunter did his job and more. We might not see a better showcase for Dead In The Water than in this game. Saberlight was a menace and his team thrived with him leading the way. The Templar Assassin was effortlessly decimating heroes and brewlings. The pos 5 Hoodwink dealt 17k damage. The Razor was doing as he pleased in the fights. Just a complete domination from Spotify. SR 1-0 Liquid.
https://preview.redd.it/lrejycavp30d1.png?width=500&format=png&auto=webp&s=93635bcc76e3f36ff2740f323d39087c5e3cb057
Liquid got off to a better start with successive kills on RTZ's Gyro but the offlane pairing of Shopify, Mars + Tusk, reciprocated the aggression and were able to bring down Weaver multiple times. It took only one slip-up from Liquid in the 17th minute to lose any grip they had in the game. SR capitalized on their core kills and took control of the map. With Aegis in hand at the 24th minute, Spotify attacked the high ground and this was where the ex-Liquid legend GH made his mark. A snowball stunning and setting up 4 heroes was too much of an outplay that Liquid had to bow down shortly after. Shopify after a shaky start to the tournament are finding their groove while Liquid are in a funk after winning their first series and now dropping 2 straight. SR 2-0 Liquid.

BetBoom vs Mouz

BB: 2-0 vs SR, 0-2 vs Aurora
Mouz: 1-2 vs Aurora, 2-0 vs Aurora
https://preview.redd.it/87drpmm1q30d1.png?width=500&format=png&auto=webp&s=e32521ff43a7508e1d2abc5dd91b83219c441420
This was all BetBoom from start to finish. Mouz were relegated to responding to what BB was doing on the map. If you got initiated on by Lion, you were most likely dead. If you got Doomed you were dead. The Sniper and Morph did as they pleased in the fights. Nightfall was very clinical and this was a walk in the park for BetBoom. BB 1-0 Mouz.
https://preview.redd.it/mvpcez25q30d1.png?width=500&format=png&auto=webp&s=90b56d1768591e3e2c502a28351486684507a836
Mouz did a better job at the start of the game, they were trying to create openings and make their Bounty Hunter pick work. They did manage to get some track kills but BB were also very careful not to give up too much. One bad fight in the 21st minute and Mouz lost all their confidence. The game would become passive and this is where BetBoom thrived and accumulated a significant lead. Once BetBoom took control of the map, Mouz didn't know how to respond. Sieging was very easy for BB, DK illus + Pugna spam was enough to take objectives. Mouz were starved and BetBoom feasted. At 35 minutes, BB had a 1-kill lead but were 24k gold ahead. BetBoom won the economic war so hard and left Mouz with no real chance to win the game. BB 2-0 Mouz.

Spirit vs Nouns

Spirit: 2-0 vs VP, 1-2 vs GG
Nouns: 2-1 vs AR, 1-2 vs FLC
https://preview.redd.it/52ehnwb9q30d1.png?width=500&format=png&auto=webp&s=9a8897c3e53281ed922770eb06dbf5867db0040c
Nouns had the last pick DP and the early stages of the game looked "okay" for the North Americans but the Cleaving Bros on the other side were unbothered and got to their timings. During the mid-game fights, it became obvious that Nouns had severe survival issues. The DP could not stand in fights and use her Exo properly, she was bursted within seconds. The fights became impossible for Nouns. Lasso, X mark, or Skewer meant certain death. After one too many beatdowns, Nouns had to call it. Spirit 1-0 Nouns.
https://preview.redd.it/vgkn3wyaq30d1.png?width=500&format=png&auto=webp&s=4a0e0b94367235e1b1d4396a7f423b0cfb54a086
Nouns have been a pleasant surprise this tournament. The eye test says they have improved a lot since the last time we saw them. In this game, they didn't really commit a lot of mistakes or give gifts to their opponents. It was just that Spirit were on another level and the two-time TI champs understood what was needed to be done and delivered. It's surprising that Nouns even managed to get singular kills on Weaver and Lina. Spirit were in their element and there was no stopping them. Spirit 2-0 Nouns.

Secret vs Boom

Secret: 0-2 vs GG, 2-1 vs G2.iG
Boom: 0-2 vs XG, 2-0 vs Heroic
https://preview.redd.it/yr5h1yueq30d1.png?width=500&format=png&auto=webp&s=2dbe6c9877a65b429ec28c400036c284fbf9d560
Despite being in a huge hole early on, Boom did not falter and kept themselves in the game. Their teamfight-heavy lineup eventually found its way to hit back and they hit back hard. Secret did not have an answer for the Black Holes. Sacred understood the assignment and made proper use of his ultimate. The same could be said about Panda's Phoenix who used his eggs in complement to the Black Holes and Static Storms. After one too many fights lost and the introduction of Refresher on Enigma, Secret could simply not fight back. This was a great display from Boom. Boom 1-0 Secret.
https://preview.redd.it/891p19agq30d1.png?width=500&format=png&auto=webp&s=88afc19a0d2ac17e7fef7d734d30303fd73ebdac
Secret looked to have this game by the throat. 70+ mins in, 57+k gold lead. Just needed the final touches but an overeager dive from Razor cost him his life and Kordan's TA wandering by himself pushing the wave meant a free Rapier drop for Zeus. Boom had their opening. Boom marched down mid and forced the issue. The first Blackhole was cancelled by Clockwerk but the Radiant still managed to bring down Mars + Clock. The Second Blackhole was a disaster. Enigma caught Razor but he was kicked away into safety. Secret were then able to capitalize on the mistake and claim all cores of the opposition and get 2 Rapier drops for themselves. That was game. Secret 1-1 Boom.
https://preview.redd.it/9ll79wyiq30d1.png?width=500&format=png&auto=webp&s=fa2f802d53f3582821fd75a92fa57a9d50d5dfc2
The deciding match was a letdown. Secret had the overall last pick Bloodseeker who showed no reason why he should be in the game. The two sides were even up til the 20th minute when a great teamfight for Boom ended as a wipe on Secret. That was all Boom needed to take complete momentum and control of the game. Secret looked lost after that and couldn't find a way back. Boom 2-1 Secret.

0-2

Heroic vs Virtus Pro

Heroic: 0-2 vs FLC, 0-2 vs Boom
VP: 0-2 vs Spirit, 1-2 vs SR
https://preview.redd.it/fbx0h8dnq30d1.png?width=500&format=png&auto=webp&s=faab43aa44a2e12bcde1de056f22e2ad821fae9c
It was an even game until Antares decided to step it up. The Tiny single-handedly won them this game. Pick-off after pick-off with his blink toss initiations led to a significant change in momentum. Heroic decided to have a go at the Eastern Europeans after VP already claimed Rosh and Heroic quickly found out they couldn't compete. VP then found 2 quick kills in the Radiant's triangle. There was no resistance to the high-ground siege as Tiny would just toss back anyone who dared to show. The Gyro after respawning, took another ride on the Tiny Airlines and died. The game was abruptly over at 24 minutes. VP 1-0 Heroic.
https://preview.redd.it/6wt7r6lqq30d1.png?width=500&format=png&auto=webp&s=d0c92bf3e3b5faa9bf0185ad0de32ae578b81541
VP revealed WR as the first pick for their team and squad1x showed us why. It was an impeccable performance. Yes, the crisp initiations from Bat and Magnus helped a lot, but this 17/0/13 in an elimination series thoroughly deserves an applause. The fights were chaotic and often scattered due to the amount of mobility on both sides but Heroic couldn't really string anything together. K1 had to do so much of the heavy lifting but he couldn't find a way to annihilate the WR and Alch. Heroic were overwhelmed and are now eliminated after losing all the games they've played. VP were the much better side and they live to fight another day. VP 2-0 Heroic.

Not sure where else to put this but here, sorry. Enjoying the game. Just also a detail-oriented person who notices these things (I swear I wasn't purposely seeking them out) and figured the dev might want them reported because I did see one of the changelog entries is about fixing typos.
The pleasure of growing grass : 5 Farm
Most achievements appear in the log with a space before and after the colon. You only need a space after the colon. This achievement should be The pleasure of growing grass: 5 Farm.
A small Village
At least in normal English, "Village" would not be capitalized. Your achievements look like you're not trying to write them in title case (what newspaper articles and book titles use), so I'd decapitalize this.
The battle for Caps
Same comment about capitalization: decapitalize "Caps"
A great City
Same comment about capitalization
Great Silos
Same comment about capitalization
Steel Working
Same comment about capitalization
Lumber Passion
Same comment about capitalization
Stone Squad
Same comment about capitalization
Okay, you know what, there's a lot of achievements that would get the same correction about capitalization and I kind of don't want to list them all right now.
I have left The Great War alone because that's usually a full title of a war and those get left capitalized (think "World War II"). I also left Researching Theresmore alone because Theresmore is the name/title of the place, so it gets to stay capitalized. (So why did I pick on "Village" and "City"? Look up "proper noun" for a better explanation than I can provide.)
The garden of eden
This is a specific place/proper noun. Should be The Garden of Eden
We can start train archers and scouts
We can start to train archers and scouts
Now we can build Stable
Now we can build the Stable
Quite a lot of the messages that appear on the bottom of the screen when discovering something new are written as full sentences, but are missing periods at the end. Including the one I just wrote about the Stable. Not sure if that's a purposeful choice, but if so, it's inconsistent with you leaving an exclamation mark at the end of the first message about FAME ("FAME is a resource"…)
A lot of the text reads a bit awkwardly, but because of certain video game text conventions I am hesitant to completely correct it. You might want to get your text looked over by a proofreadeeditor someday, although it is comprehensible the way it is right now. Some of the examples of what I'm hesitant about:
Also, I was trying to see if the game could be played pacifist really early on (just started today. In "numbers go up" games like idle games, I hate seeing numbers go down. In other games I've played like this one, getting attacked often makes numbers go down. And you cannot just immediately turn it off to stop it like you could with, say, voluntarily burning coal resources to make some kind of metal resource. So I figured I'd try to make getting attacked not an option which is what sometimes happens if you never pursue any combat options yourself. I know it's probably a weird self-imposed restriction/goal to try but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ It's a single player game. Nobody's experience is getting impacted by my weird experiment to avoid something that might be unavoidable, except my own) and am pretty surprised. I skipped Archery on purpose, knowing it unlocks the Army. I researched Breeding, thinking it would improve Farming, and was quite surprised when it unlocked the Army tab anyways and I got the message about being able to make new army units. Curious if I'll get attacked without ever making any army units.
EDIT: As a mobile player I did not realize I could just long press on the upgrade/building to see what it does. Whoops.

2024.05.13 01:38 nexech Complicity - a card game about shifting interplayer equilibria

My card game has just reached v1.5, but this is my first time sharing it on Reddit!
Complicity is inspired by the unhinged & magnificent novel Too Like the Lightning by Ada Palmer.
It features:
Ever wanted to be a scifi senator who sells criminal favors to secure votes, then escapes to Mars before the police can arrest them?
This game is a noncommercial hobby project that is free for anyone to print & play :)

2024.05.12 20:36 Frogstacker Bots in standard

I’m currently working my way up the standard ladder, currently in gold 2, and I’ve been seeing SO MANY BOTS.
Specifically late at night, it seems nearly impossible to play against a real person. Last night playing around 4am EST I was placed against over 10 bots in a row.
How can I tell they were bots?
  1. Their name style is almost identical, my last 7 opponents were GarnetEagle, BrownBeast, GarnetHound, JadeBison, QuartzThief, FlameRogue, CyanElk. Every name is a colomaterial followed by a noun.
  2. Their decks use only starter uncraftable cards. They go full agro with any uncraftable rush/charge minions available for their class.
  3. They don’t rope or resign. It almost feels weird to have guaranteed lethal and actually get to play it before your opponent gives up.
  4. They mirror your emotes. Not every time, but the only time they emote is to copy the emote you did. If you use your well played emote, they use theirs etc.
While the name style of these bots is a pretty dead giveaway, I also started using the emotes to test. For example I have a hero skin whose well played emote reads more like a hello emote, and when using it at the start of the game, most human players will respond with hello, whereas a bot will just respond with well played.
Anyone else seeing these? At what rank does it start being just real players again?

Editing from feedback to say I think it’s all obscure lol. Sorry it’s difficult. If it helps, I’m neurodivergent, so maybe neurodivergent so my brain might work differently than a lot of peoples…

I think it’s pretty easy except that purple might be a bit obscure.
Let me know how it goes?
Also two little hints or clarifications… Whether a noun is singular or plural makes no difference. I should’ve been consistent maybe. Also, I think there is one answer in blue and one answering purple that could be interchangeable for one another. Sorry if that’s frustrating.

Lose and loose are easy to confuse. Lose typically functions only as a verb, with meanings related to failing to win or hold onto something; one might “lose a game” or “lose one’s temper.” Loose can be used as an adjective ("not securely attached"), a verb ("to free something or someone"), and less commonly, a noun or adverb

2024.05.11 03:29 drethamartian Hip-Hop's Cold War: Every Kendrick vs. Drake Diss/Subliminal (2013-2024) [Revised]

Warning: WALL OF TEXT
• Control (2013): Kendrick addresses Drake, along with 10 other rappers, in his verse, prompting passive-aggressive reactions from Drake. Drake downplayed the verse in interviews and seemed genuinely annoyed he had to constantly discuss Kendrick during the rollout for his next album, Nothing Was the Same.
"And that goes for; Jermaine Cole, Big K.R.I.T., Wale, Pusha T, Meek Mills, A$AP Rocky, DRAKE, Big Sean, Jay Electron, Tyler, Mac Miller."
"I got love for you all but I'm trynna murder you niggas, trynna make sure your core fans never heard of you niggas. They don't want to hear not one more noun or verb from you niggas."
• The Language (2013): After months of hating in interviews, Drake finally addresses "Control" on wax, albeit subliminally. He makes it clear he doesn't view Kendrick in the same light as critics do and believes Kendrick is only doing this to get a reaction out of him. Both points would end up common themes whenever Drake addresses Kendrick.
"I don't know why they been lying but your shit is not that inspiring."
"Fuck anybody that's talking that shit just to get a reaction."
"I am the one with the motormouth I am the one you should worry bout."
• BET Awards Cypher (2013): Drake's subliminals on "The Language" prompt Kendrick to make the most direct shots so far, during TDE's cypher at the 2013 BET Awards. Directly referencing Drake's latest album "Nothing Was the Same" only 3 weeks after it released, calling Drake a sensitive rapper, a trend that would continue through this beef.
"And nothing's been the same since they dropped Control and tucked a sensitive rapper back in his pajama clothes."
"I got my thumb on hip-hop, and my foot in the back of your ass."
• Sh!t REMIX (2013): Drake takes the position of Kendrick's big homie, a trend that would also continue in this beef. He makes multiple mentions of helping Kendrick out by giving him a feature and bringing his tour to Los Angeles in 2011 when Kendrick was a much smaller artist.
"Took niggas out the hood like I'm from there, so you know it's all good when I come there."
"I hear you talking about you're city like you run there, then I brought my tour to you're city, you my son there."
• 0 to 100 / The Catch Up (2014): On "The Catch Up," Drake vents to a woman about rappers mentioning him in verses and coming to terms with the fact he's top dog now and the problems that come with that. An obvious reaction to the quick back and forth they had after "Control," he's framing Kendrick, and other rappers, as clout-hungry envious haters that just want his spot.
"Imagine how it feel to watch another nigga at the top, you know that if you wasn't you you would be dissing you dawg?"
• Pay for It (2014): Kendrick goes on the offensive for the first time since the BET Cypher. He directly responds to Drake's "motormouth" lyric from "The Language" and lets Drake know this isn't a warning shot, it's war now.
"Been dissecting your motormouth, til' I break down the engine."
"This ain't no warning shot, this a relevant henchman."
"Ending our friendship, baby I'd rather die alone."
• Used To (2015): Drake references a 2013 interview with Elliot Wilson, where he alleged he saw Kendrick days after the "Control" verse, and his demeanor was quite friendly.
"They gone say you're name on them airwaves, they gone hit you up right after like it's only rap."
• 6PM In New York (2015): On one of Drake's classic timestamp records, he takes shots at a bunch of artists, most notably Tyga. But towards the end of the track, he takes subliminal shots at BOTH Kanye West and Kendrick Lamar. Mentioning "Money Trees" and "Blood On the Leaves" making it clear he's ready to go there with artists of any caliber.
"Why you rapping like you come from the streets? I got a backyard where money seems to come from the trees, and I'm never ever scared to get some blood on my leaves."
• King Kunta (2015): Kendrick subliminally addresses rappers trying to sit on his throne. Most notably though, are the bars about rappers with ghostwriters. When this song first released nobody knew who Kendrick was referring to. But months later, after Meek Mill exposed Drake for using ghostwriters, it became obvious who King Kunta was referencing. It was at this exact point the entire dynamic of the beef began to change.
"I got a bone to pick. I don't want you monkey mouth motherfuckers sitting at my throne again."
"I can dig rapping, but a rapper with a ghostwriter? What the fuck happened?"
"I swore I wouldn't tell, but most of y'all sharing bars like you got the bottom bunk in a 2-man cell."
• Hood Politics (2015): While there are no direct shots at Drake, Kendrick does make reference to reactions to the "Control" verse. He talks about people in our culture being too sensitive and that further dissing could lead to violence because of that. But makes it clear he can press the "red button" and get the West Coast involved if it has to go there. More directed towards East Coast vs. West Coast than Drake, but still relevant to the lore.
"Unless you talking about power, yeah I got a lot of it. I'm the only rapper next to Snoop that can press the button."
"Had the coast on standby, 'K Dot what's up? I heard they opened up Pandora's box, I'll box 'em all in by a landslide."
"I resolved inside that private hall while sitting down with JAY (JAY-Z), he said 'It's funny how one verse can fuck up the game.'"
• 100 (2015): Drake makes another big bro maneuver. Featuring on a Compton legends song (The Game), while filming the music video in Compton. The verse seems to be a reaction to the praise Kendrick received for "To Pimp a Butterfly" he wants Kendrick to know that if he felt like it, he could make an album just as great as TPAB. He also claims Kendrick's recent music gets no play in the club and when it does, the reaction is lackluster.
"I would have all of your fans if I didn't go pop and I stayed on some conscious shit."
"I'm in the club every time they play the competition, if they even play the competition, and I seen the response they get."
• Darkside/Gone (2015): Kendrick one ups Drake. Likely upset a Compton legend allowed Drake to diss him on a song, Kendrick teams up with THE Compton legend on an album named "Compton" to respond to Drake. Directly referencing Drake's song "Enemies" and pokes fun at the constant subliminals Drake continues to send.
"But I still got enemies giving me energy I want to fight now."
"Subliminal sent to me all of this hate, I thought I was holding the mic down."
• Deep Water (2015): The more direct of the Compton soundtrack disses. He again references a Drake song, this time "Started From the Bottom," asserting that unlike Drake, he really started from the bottom. There are also references to the number "6" which Drake has a known affinity for.
"Motherfucker know I started from the bottom."
"They liable to bury him, they nominate six to carry him. They worry him to death but he no vegetarian."
"The beef is on his breathe, inheriting the drama better than a great white, this is life in my aquarium."
• Summer Sixteen (2016): Phase two of the beef begins here. In 2015 President Barack Obama was asked who would win in a beef between Kendrick Lamar & Drake. Barack Obama picked Kendrick, and obviously, Drake doesn't agree. A quick sub to Kendrick on a song mostly focused on the Meek Mill beef.
"Tell Obama that my verses are just like the whips that he in, they bulletproof."
• Untitled 02 (2016): Kendrick pokes fun at Drake, parodying his "If You're Reading This" flow on the last verse. No real direct shots but some possible subs.
"I can put a rapper on life support, guarantee that's something none of you want."
• Untitled 07 (2016): On the penultimate song from Untitled Unmastered, Kendrick addresses a few artists who sent shots at him after TPAB. Though the Jay Electronica shots are most notable, he does take a second to remind Drake that he's not ready for war. Essentially calling Drake a bitch.
"You niggas fear me like y'all fear God."
"Before you poke out your chest, loosen your bra."
"The mastemind, and til' my next album, more power to you."
• Grammys (2016): While there are no obvious shots at Kendrick, this is an important song in the lore. On this song Drake starts the "Top 5" discussion in hip-hop, and saying his spot there is not for debate. This would be referenced on many disses moving forward.
"Most niggas with a deal, couldn't make a greatest hits."
"Y'all a whole lot of things, but you still ain't this."
"Whole city going crazy, top 5 no debating. Top 5, top 5, top 5."
• For Free (2016): One of the more weird instances in this beef. Drake makes a sly reference to Kendrick's 2015 song, For Free? (Interlude). It's not clear if this was an attempt at being friendly again, or a petty pot shot. Although seeing how things played out after, I'd assume this reference was VERY tongue in cheek.
"And like your boy from Compton said "You know this dick ain't free."
•4PM In Calabasas (2016): On another of Drake's classic timestamps records, he shouts out Kendrick once again. This song reads as a post-Views victory lap. But Drake is still clearly taking the position as Kendrick's big homie, the guy that took him on tour when he was a starving artist. Also the first time Drake ever mentioned Kendrick's name on wax.
"When they told me take an R&B nigga on the road (Chris Brown), and I told 'em no and drew for Kendrick and Rocky"
• Gyalchester (2017): Drake makes a direct reference to Grammys. Asserting that's he's no longer just top 5, he's top 2 and he's not #2. Kendrick would obviously take exception. The artist he's been compared to for the last 4 years just claimed the #1 spot on record.
"I know I said top 5 but I'm top 2, and I'm not 2, and I got one, thought you had one, but it's not one, nigga nah."
• The Heart Part 4 (2017): Kendrick becomes the big dog. In the two years since TPAB, Kendrick received a ton of criticism from other artists. Downplaying the impact of the record, downplaying Kendricks skill as an MC. He was being boxed in as the "Black Power" rapper and artists not named Drake (Big Sean, Jay Electronica, Lupe Fiasco) were beginning to feel very comfortable shooting at Kendrick. Then comes The Heart Part 4. This was almost like Kendrick's 5AM in Toronto. He's now established as a top dog in the game, and he let's everybody, including Drake, know. A lot of bars on here could be interpreted as Big Sean disses, but Kendrick counting up to 5 and proclaiming himself as the greatest rapper alive was clearly a response to Gyalchester. Kendrick also name drops JAY-Z, referring to him as Hall of Fame. This could be interpreted as a shot at Big Sean, who has an album of the same name, or Drake, who had just had a public feud with JAY-Z the year before.
"My fans can't wait for me to son you're punk ass and crush you're whole lil shit. I'll big pun your punk ass, you a scared little bitch."
"Tip toeing around my name nigga you lame, and when I get at you homie don't you tell me you was just playing."
"Yelling one, two, three, four five. I am, the greatest rapper alive."
"Hoe JAY-Z hall of fame, sit yo punk ass down."
"Go celebrate with your team and let victory vouch you, just know the next game played I might slap the shit out' you."
"A difference between accomplishments and astonishments."
• ELEMENT. (2017): Much like The Heart Part 4, this song is also seen as a Big Sean diss primarily. But the 2023 leaked version shows Kendrick was prepared to use this song to kick off the Drake beef officially. Obviously, things changed and he went with a more commercial version, but still had shots. The most direct shot to Drake being a reference to Drake being in Compton shooting the "100" music video, and another call back to the Top 5 lyrics from Grammys. This was also the beginning of the "Bogeyman" narrative surrounding Kendrick, as he begs any rapper to say his name on wax.
"I don't do it for the gram, I do it for Compton."
"If I gotta slap a pussy ass nigga, I'ma make it look sexy."
"Mr. one through five, that's the only logic."
"Niggas want to flex on me and be in LA for free huh? Next time they hit the 10 freeway, we need receipts huh?"
"Most of y'all throw rocks and try to hide your hand. Just say his name and I promise that you'll see candy man."
"Last LP, I tried to lift the black artist, but it's a difference between black artists and wack artists."
• GOD.* (2017): Kendrick once again trolls Drake's flow. This time copying the flow from Drake & Kanye's song "Glow" no direct shots or subliminal's really.
• Mask Off Remix (2017): Kendrick's post-DAMN. Victory lap. After years of Drake being able to big bro him in the beef, Kendrick outsells and outperforms Drake in 2017. Kendrick now takes the position of being just as commercial as Drake, while still being true to himself. The gap had finally been closed, authenticity and artistry begin to play an even bigger role in the beef.
"Platinum, platinum, platinum, gotta look at yourself and ask what happened."
"How y'all let a conscious nigga go commercial while only makin' conscious albums?"
"How y'all let the braids on the TV? How y'all let the hood at the table?"
•Family feud (2017): Interestingly enough, at this point it had been 2 years since Drake sent any direct shots at Kendrick. And honestly at this point there wasn't much he could say. Kendrick was still active, moving the culture, and just as relevant as Drake. These bars are seen as a warning to Meek in case he wanted to start the beef again, but I think it's more directed at Kendrick. Drake sees the gap closing, but makes it clear he can still go there with Kendrick if need be. Possibly the biggest reach of this list, but it tracks.
"But this ain't all about calling truce I'm, still dishin' out verbal abuse. That shit could get reintroduced if somebody got something they urging to prove nigga"
•All the stars (2018): Kendrick had a monster 2017 with the release of DAMN. So monster even Drake had to recognize it. I can't find an exact link to the article, but Drake congratulated Kendrick on his success during an interview. Possibly another olive branch like For Free, but Kendrick clearly wasn't feeling it. He tells Drake to keep his fake praise to himself. And even just plain out states he doesn't like Drake.
"Fuck you and all your expectations, I don't even want your congratulations"
"I recognize your false confidence and calculated promises. All in your conversation"
"You endorsin'? Motherfucker, I don't even like you"
"I want the credit if I'm losing or I'm winning"
•Diplomatic immunity (2018): Possibly a little upset at Kendrick dismissing his congratulations, Drake goes back on the offensive for the first time since "100". He reaffirms his position as Kendrick's big homie by referencing songs from To Pimp a Butterfly, U and I. Essentially telling Kendrick he got too much dip on his chip after 2017, and to remember where he came from.
"They try to compare us but, like a job straight out of high school there's no U and I"
"I taught you everything you know now you got student pride"
•Sandra's rose (2018): In 2018 Drake had a lot more to worry about than Kendrick Lamar. He spends the majority of Scorpion going at Kanye West & Pusha T, but made sure Cornrow Kenny caught a stray too with a reference to "Mortal Man" from TPAB. After this we would see Kendrick withdraw from the game for a while due to personal reasons and the 2020 pandemic, essentially surrendering the throne to Drake. At least for the time being.
"I walk in godly form amongst the mortal men"
•Family ties (2021): In the 3 years since Sandra's rose, Drake has continued to run the score up. Going on an insane run of #1 hits, and establishing himself as not only the biggest act in rap, but arguably the biggest in the world. With the change in sound hip-hop was going through, some wondered if Kendrick still had a place in this game as a top rapper. Could he still make hits and be relevant to the culture? Or was he going the André 3000 route? This banger with Baby Keem answered all those questions. Kendrick comes with a refreshed energy, addressing his absence, and making it very clear he still sees himself as the best rapper in the world. He once again references the Drake "Top 5" line from Grammys, and makes allegations that Drake's numbers have been falsified. Baby Keem even gets a shot in towards the end as he alleged Drake or, Number 2, was messaging his girl. Reaffirming to Drake they still see him as #2, and insinuating Drake is a thirst god.
"Smoking on your top 5 tonight" "Don't you address me unless it's with four letters"
"Last year, y'all fucked up all the listener, who went platinum? I call that a visor. Who the fuck backin' 'em? All been falsified"
"#2 DM'ing my bitch, that's cool, I don't ask why"
•No friends in the industry (2021): Drake's responds to Family Ties with his most direct shot since Sandra's rose. Much like Scorpion, Drake was pretty preoccupied with Kanye West for this project, but made sure to let Kendrick know he can't touch him in the numbers game anymore.
"Fuck debating who the GOAT. Better not make this shit about the numbers all I know, better not make this shit about the summers all I know"
•Father time (2022): After Kanye and Drake got back together in 2021 for a Larry Hoover concert, a lot of fans were confused, Kendrick being no different. He likely saw some of himself in Kanye, and wonders how somebody with a mind like Kanye links back up with somebody who's taunted him and his family for years. You can literally hear the disappointment in Kendrick's voice, but he uses it as an opportunity to self-reflect and wonder if he's going about his issues with Drake the wrong way. This was also Kendrick's first time saying Drake's name on wax since "Control".
"When Kanye got back with Drake, I was slightly confused. Guess I'm not mature as I think, got some healing to do"
•Churchill Downs (2022): Drake finds a new angle. With Kendrick returning to the game with Mr. Morale and The Big Steppers, not everybody was so impressed. Drake begins to poke at Kendrick's height, and his lack of presence in the game since 2017. He almost seemed offended that somebody who took 5 years off could still be mentioned in the same breath as him.
"All I hear is tall tales coming from little men"
"Same ones that say they run the game when they not even in it"
•The hillbillies (2023): A hilarious parody of "Sticky" from Honestly, Nevermind. No direct shots or subs, but Kendrick and Keem are clearly poking fun at Drake for making a mediocre dance album.
•AMERICA HAS A PROBLEM (2023): Scary foreshadowing. Kendrick admits that the spirituality he's showcased since Mr. Morale has been a little inauthentic, because there's somebody out there he still REALLY wants to slap the shit out of. He also warns this artist's day one fans to have some facts on them. Just insane, and makes you wonder how long Kendrick has really been scheming.
"Truthfully I be lying in my rap songs, cause I always fail to mention I'll slap homie"
"His career didn't come with no life insurance, hope his day one fans got some facts on them"
•First person shooter (2023): This is an interesting one, because Drake doesn't really send any shots. Besides calling himself the GOAT, and comparing himself to Michael Jackson, not much on here can track back to Kendrick. J. Cole does mention Kendrick as a member of the Big 3, but then says the Spiderman meme is me looking at Drake. Likely asserting Kendrick's lack of activity puts Cole in that #2 spot officially. It feels like a narrative was being pushed that Drake & Cole were the top 2. Kendrick once again takes exception to this, wondering how these guys are BFF's all of a sudden. Wondering how somebody like Cole aligns himself with somebody like Drake. Hearing Drake flex beating a Michael Jackson record, while giving Cole his first #1. Cole and Drake claiming the top 2 spots? This was the moment Kendrick decided to go nuclear.
"Who the GOAT? Tell me who you really rooting for. Like a kid who act bad from January to November, nigga it's just you and Cole."
"Love when they argue the hardest MC. Is it K-Dot, is if Aubrey or me? We the Big Three like we started a league, but right now I feel like Muhammad Ali."
"Rhyming with me is the biggest mistake, the Spiderman meme is me looking at Drake."
"Everybody steppers, well fuck it, then everybody breakfast and I'm bout to clean up my plate."
"Niggas steady talking 'bout when this gonna be repeated, what the fuck bro? I'm one away from Michael, nigga beat it."
"Stories About My Brother (2023): Once again some insane foreshadowing. This song is Drake once again reaffirming his status as top dog, and shouting out the shooters he keeps around him. He also talks about artists banding together to put a dent in his armor. He then addresses Kendrick, telling him Mr. Morale was 'buns'. He also wants Kendrick to know nobody would care if he retired, saying he's not 'Kobe Bryant' to us, possibly a reference to Kendrick & Kobe's 2017 interview. Though some argue these are Kanye West shots, the Kobe reference swings it towards Kendrick in my opinion. The final chapter of subliminals. Clearly Kendrick had enough.
"Your last album was buns, you niggas Hawaiian as fuck."
"I can't wait for the day you choose to retire your stuff, takin' off the sneakers cause you tired of lacing 'em up."
"That's how you gonna find out you not Kobe Bryant to us."

2024.05.11 02:01 PM_ME_C_CODE [Question] Looking for a System

I'm looking for a game system and I don't know if one exists that fills this specific niche.
  • Fantasy
  • Non-class, non-level based advancement
  • Non-Vancian Magic System
    • Preferably noun/verb or skill-based
  • Deadly combat
    • CP2020-levels of deadly. If an ogre lands a hit, you fly apart.
  • Easy access to resurrection magic (because you tend to fly apart)
  • Decently crunchy. Not narrative-first, or simplified. Not like FATE.
  • Not a generic system subset. No "GURPS played with these rules enabled and ignoring everything else"-type stuff. A dedicated system.
Does such a game exist?

2024.05.10 19:37 Griblick A Few Thoughts from a Fan

I'm really enjoying the game. My friends and I play daily and exchange our scores.
I know there are bugs - we've all had the stuck tiles, MeteoBlack Hole Crashes, plural word that doesn't register (my buddy got his "Mountains" rejected today), etc. - but I know those will be fixed over time and the dictionary will improve (but hopefully not too much).
What are some ideas that you think would make the game better? My friends and I have thought about the following (understanding we have no idea how easy or complex they are to execute):
  1. Friends List where you can see your friend's Daily Scores
  2. Daily Game Standardization - The Daily Game shouldn't be impacted by which packs players have purchased. Everyone should receive the same Gubbins options and the same letters in the same positions with the random element being Gubbins' behavior
  3. More Gubbins' Influence Indicators - It's great when you see a lower case letter and know that it came from a Chili. It would be interesting if color (or something) could be used to show other things like this - e.g. - Yellow letters when they come from a lemon, Orange ING when they come from a trumpet, Blue when they've been randomized by a Raaincloud, etc. - I guess it gets fairly complicated the more you think about it...
  4. Dictionary - It's never clear which acronyms, proper nouns, plurals, etc. will be accepted and it would be lovely to check before you commit to pursuing a specific word
  5. Ability to see the board before selecting your first Gubbin!
Anyways, really enjoy the game and hope there are other positive ideas from the fanbase.

2024.05.10 13:16 becherbrook Anyone else play the Pathfinder CRPGs wishing they were set in FR, instead?

I don't know if I've just reach a limit on how much setting lore I'm willing to tolerate, and I certainly enjoy the gameplay and scenarios, but my eyes just glaze over when the pathfinder games (kingmaker and wrath of the righteous) start talking about anything with a proper noun. I think with the exception of the gnome bleaching I just find it all blah blah.
I didn't get that from the Pillars of Eternity games - they felt like they were trying something different enough (animancy) that I wanted to know more, but Pathfinder feels very much like a post-FR game (which sort of makes sense as PF is very much a post-D&D game), and I'm just getting constant reminders how much better the FR lore is as I play.
