So I finally pulled the trigger on the Chase Sapphire Reserve and have been OK so far with booking travel through the somewhat annoying Chase Travel site, but now I had to make my first simple change in a flight itinerary and it was a ridiculously long process, the agent didnât seem to even have any experience doing this (really? Surely this happens all the time??), and after a long 45 minutes of back and forth finally got an email confirmation of the change but still it isnât showing up in the airlineâs app as being changed so Iâm worried it wasnât even done properly.
If I had booked this with the airline directly I would have been done in 2 minutes and could have even made the change online, and with no fees because of my status. So is it really worth the hassle using Chase Travel to get the bonus points when the airline isnât able to make any changes in the case of a scheduling issue? Iâm now hesitant to ever use Chase Travel again for booking a flight that has any potential of needing to be changed.

I am taking my PHR exam on Monday and as many of who you who have taken it before probably have experienced, I AM PANICKING! I have been studying for about 3 months and have seriously memorized every term there is to know in the HRCP study guides. I read the entirety of all 5 books, outlined notes for EVERY page, and then made my own notecards from my notes (as well as studied the notecards that HRCP gives you). I also took an online course through a local HR Consulting firm (the program was also based off of HRCP materials). I have passed every single HRCP practice exam with above an 85 or above (labor relations I passed with almost a perfect score) and feel like i know everything in that book like the back of my hand! I also purchased the 3 month version of the PHR Pocket App with 450 questions and my stats right now are at about 75-80%. Then I purchased the HRCI $85 timed practice exam and only got a 60% which was SUPER discouraging.
I am panicking because I have only been working as an HR professional for 2 years and am worried I won't have the experience needed to pass the exam. I've been working as an HR coordinator in a private firm for 2 years mainly in comp and benefits.
My question for you all who used the HRCP study guides to take the PHR exam is did the material actually closely match up to what you saw on that exam (terms, etc.) or were you completely blind sided when taking it? Did you pass/fail? What would you have done differently? Any advice or tips are welcome! I would say that I am a pretty good test taker but I have so much anxiety right now surrounding this test because I have put in SO much hard work and just found out that if you fail you have to wait 3 months to take it again which seems crazy to me!

Over a year ago my spouse and I were in the West Coast for a wedding photographer gig (our full time jobs). I regret doing this now (please don't judge me for saying this) but while I was there, I called 911 to report a suspected drunk driver because they were driving right under the speed limit in front of me and crossed over the yellows a few times, so I gave the dispatcher car details and my name and number and went on with my life, flew back home to the East Coast where we are based (we are used to flying all over the place regularly for our job). I was contacted a few days later as a follow up by the arresting officer to provide an e-mail statement where I gave them the same info I did over the phone. For months and months my husband and I had no idea what happened after this, if someone was arrested or not, if the driver was actually drunk, it just left our minds after that weekend.
(Subpoena 1): Until last November I received a certified mail subpoena from that state's court for a DUI criminal trial scheduled in Feb 2024 where I was mandated to be there as a key witness. I didn't even realize my 911 call would result in a subpoena, but after talking to my husband and a law school friend I learned I am not in trouble but I have to show up. We live almost 3000 miles away so paying out of pocket to travel was out of question, however after reaching out to the court they were willing to reimburse me for travel and lodging (nothing fancy just bare minimum stuff), and a really small daily allowance. I asked the liaison I could dial in with a video call, or can they just use my email statement they said no I have to be there in person. Even though I've forgotten much about that day let alone that specific 1 minute window of time I made the 911 call. I don't know how useful my recollections would be at this point.
The time of the trial in Feb overlapped with part of a 2 day wedding photography gig a client had booked a year in advance, and I was told that this was not a valid excuse to ignore a subpoena for a criminal trial. So despite money being tight I contacted this client and let them know that due to this legal obligation out of my control, I would need to forfeit our contract and they will need to find another photographer. Client was understanding and appreciative of the months in advance heads up, I still felt terrible.
(Subpoena 2) : Come January and guess what, I am notified that I do not have to show up to court on Feb because the trial was moved to May. I was pissed off because I have lost out on a nearly $7k package for a trial that got moved last minute. I received a separate subpoena for the May trial, I called court clerk to ask if I will have to attend and they say yes, and did not seem that concerned that I lost out on income as a result of this case dragging on. Many may know this but Apr-Sep are the most busy, popular times for wedding photography bookings and I knew that this meant that for the week of the May trial date I would have to block off my availability for bookings which is a shame because I had already gotten inquiries about that week which is a very popular week. I took the hit for the potential loss of income for that week. This time I did not have to cancel on a client though, so I was willing to do my civic duty and move on with this.
(Subpoena 3 - TBA) Well two weeks ago I received notice that the May trial has been cancelled for a "continuance" and the next trial date has tentatively been set for late-July. I have not received a subpoena for the July trial yet, but I saw this on the case details site online and that subpoenas have been sent out again to the same list of people including me. This July trial date has already been booked out to me for a multi-day wedding that would have brought in $10k+ in income for my family, and I am panicking at whether I should cancel on my clients now to give them time to find a new photographer, or I should bide my time in case this trial date ends up being moved too.
I feel like I am being punished for doing the "right thing" by calling 911 that day, now I regret this so much because I have had to put my own life on hold and lose income as a result. I don't know why there is a delay or why things are being dragged on either, I thought since this was more than a year ago everything would be over at this point.
Is this a normal thing that can happen for subpoena'd witnesses, and is there really nothing that we can do about it? Can I just retract my statement or say I don't remember anything anymore? I can't keep putting my own life and business on hold , cancelling on clients WEDDINGS last minute, and losing income and hurting my reputation by blocking off popular weeks for trial dates that keep being moved. I also don't want to sound entitled or aggressive to the courts, or get in trouble for being uncooperative, so I am not sure how to approach this.

My second attempt was Saturday and found out I passed today at 85 questions!!! My first attempt it went to the max 150 questions and I ended up failing. It definitely is demotivating if you fail, but always keep your head up and study even more and add/change the material youâre looking at.
My first attempt I was using the Saunders nclex review and ati books and free CATs online. That obviously didnât work out well, so before my second attempt, I switched to mainly Uworld where I used up about 99% of the question bank. My average score for the CATs on Uworld was around 60-70% and overall points from question bank was around 45%. I also used nursing.com to do their simclex where I took 8 of them and passed 7/8 only failing 1. That gave me more practice and review.
I know people liked mark k lectures or other lectures, but they didnât work for me and I didnât end up listening to any lectures. Glad Iâm finally done!! I know you guys can pass too! Even if the outcome isnât what you want on your first, second or third attempt, or even more, always keep trying and never give up!! Youâre so close to finally being an RN and you will succeed!!! :)

About two years ago, I was in contact with a woman who wanted to write a book titled âStrong Daughters Of Bad Mothersâ. She wanted to publicize both her own story and the stories of other women who were willing to share. So she made an online post and received quite a bit of backlash. Because of the term "Bad Mothers". The thread that developed was interesting, but also quite exhausting because of the obvious tunnel vision of some of the commenters. Rather than getting caught up in this useless discussion, I decided to write an article in support of her.
My mother died a few years ago, but being estranged from her years before her death, I know all the struggles someone goes through. I thought maybe, some of you might find my article helpful as well. Sorry, if the wording is a litttle off at times, I had to translate it for this sub. So here it goes:
MEASURABLE SUCCESS / FAILURE IN PARENTING?
So far I havenât been blessed with the task of being a mother. From my own experience, I can only say what I wouldnât ever want my child to have to deal with. But could I ever be competent enough to provide at least everything that seems important to me? Love and appreciation without expecting anything in return? The ability to love and care for themselves? Encouragement through weaknesses and promotion of strengths?
At what point does one become "bad" at parenting? Is there a scale? A scale that goes from âtotal neglectâ = âterribleâ to âraising a child to be a superheroâ = âperfectâ? ââI hardly think so. And why is that? Because of human failure. There are no special categories for that. Though we feel most comfortable when we can put everything in its drawer and label it. But does that mean that once you reach a certain level of failure, youâre not allowed to call things by their name just because theyâre not obviously "measurable"?
Imagine this: You trust your dentist to do a decent job, but on almost every visit they pull the wrong tooth or drill in the wrong place - would you say to yourself, "Well, maybe they havenât had an easy life," or would you rather conclude that you chose a lousy dentist? Too trivial? Too far-fetched? After all, you can't compare a visit to the dentist to a family life, can you? Well, sometimes you can.
Let me further illustrate why the simple adjective "bad" should be removed from the taboo when it comes to parent-child relationships: Have you ever advised a friend/family membeacquaintance to distance themselves from someone? Because you realized that their relationship (developing or existing) clearly wasnât doing them any good? Have you ever told someone: "This person is bad for you"? If so, did you try to think of a better word? Or did âbadâ just roll off the tongue - because it was the truth?
Yes, some of you may be offended when we refer to ourselves as children of "bad" parents. How disrespectful. They gave us the gift of life - or they adopted us. Either way, a total no-go! Right? But maybe you should ask yourself WHY exactly it triggers you so much.
As the daughter of a bad mother, let me tell you this: People who have had difficult, perhaps even traumatic, childhoods are rarely interested in a "revenge" or "shaming" anyone. It's about finally being seen and heard. It's about no longer hiding our scars (physical and psychological). Itâs about staying true to ourselves when others lecture us about "family values".
The level of respect and compassion that is undoubtedly given to BOTH bad and good parents is equally due to their children.
If something was "not good"... what was it? Open for improvement? Probably. Not quite ideal? Possibly. Mediocre? Perhaps. But these quibbles over words do not minimize the damage done. Especially when it was just that: BAD.
Awful. Horrible. Disastrous. Traumatizing.
We can add whatever suits our case. Whatever suits OUR FEELINGS. It is primarily a judgment of "parenting", not particularly of the people who dabble in it. For the greatest harm can be done with the best of intentions. Maybe they failed because they "didnât know better". Maybe they passed on what was given to them. They too were once children, and perhaps they themselves were victims in some way. But do any of these possibilities or facts change the outcome? Or reverse our trauma? Sadly, no.
Deep down, somewhere, there is still is a child reaching out for help because they have been hurt. Donât shut them up or push them away. Donât yell at them or tell them ânot to be so dramaticâ. Instead, just listen. For healing also means acknowledging all the wounds that have been inflicted, both visible and invisible. Donât belittle them just because you don't like their choice of words.
So please, just take that child's hand. Even if they're already an adult. Listen closely. Watch carefully. It doesnât matter if you canât fully grasp the implications of what you're hearing or seeing. Just be open and compassionate. And maybe your own inner child will speak up and have a thing or two to say.

2024.05.14 04:14 rockrchick21 Rant. Planning a vow renewal and it seems like it's not going to happen.
This is a long post. I'm sorry, I just don't really know who to talk to about this.
My husband and I got married 9 years ago when we were fairly young (24 years old) and had no money and no place to live. My parents are poor and we knew that any wedding we had would have to be really simple and inexpensive.
I've always wanted a big wedding with all my family and friends there, I wanted to wear a black tulle ball gown, I wanted a sit down dinner with everyone and lots of music and dancing. I made so many concessions for our wedding because of budget and time.
We had planned to get married in July on a day that is really important to us, but nothing was working out. So we ended up changing our date to May of the same year because it seemed like the only way things were going to work out which meant that a bunch of people who'd RSVP'd were unable to come. Most of my husband's family wasn't able to be there which was a huge bummer, and some of my out of town family wasn't able to get time off work or change travel plans.
At the time we were engaged I was sleeping on the floor of my mom's room in a two bedroom apartment that we shared with my two brothers and my dad. There was not enough space for all of us, and I wasn't making enough money to move out on my own. My husband and I both come from very religious families so moving in together before marriage was out of the question. We knew we'd get married eventually so we figured why not now. That way I could get out of the cramped apartment. (Plus there was a lot of stress with my dad, and I was on my way out of my religion which was causing more contention at home). Which is why we moved the date up rather than back.
My mom and my aunts basically DIY'd our whole reception which was AMAZING. We had a short and sweet ceremony on the beach near where we live, and had a short open-house type reception at a community center near by. There was no dinner, no dancing, and it was only a couple of hours long.
I need to preface the rest of this by saying I'm suuuper grateful for the wedding we had! Our families put so much work and effort to make sure we had a nice celebration that was affordable. We had a really fun time celebrating and taking photos during and after the event. I have really fond memories of the day and I love looking through our pictures of the day and remembering how exciting and fun it was.
Now I need to explain where I'm coming from.
Even though the community center worked great for the type of reception we did, it just didn't look that nice and I was pretty bummed out that that's all we could afford.
The food consisted of appetizers and cake. We never ate any food because we were running around saying hi to everyone and thanking them for driving the 1.5 hours to the coast to celebrate with us. The only cake I ate was the tiny slice we cut and then was shoved in my face. We had bought 3 cakes for everyone to eat and the smallest one which was 8" was sent home with us because everyone thought we wanted it for our 1st anniversary. It was a spice cake which cream cheese frosting that we ordered because some of our family really loves spice cake. So it never got communicated that we didnt want to take the whole cake home, but that we wanted our guests to eat it.
The dress was an issue. Like I mentioned before, I really wanted a black tulle ballgown. Everyone one in my family hated the idea and said I would regret wearing black when I saw my wedding photos. (And the photos were the only thing we splurged on so I didn't want to regret those). They also said a ball gown wouldn't make sense for the beach so I should go with something else. My mom and dad wanted me to be modest so I tried to find a dress with short sleeves that would be comfortable to wear in 80° weather on the beach. I was really loving the off the shoulder and sleeveless dresses and at the time they had more details I was looking for. I hated white, and I wanted to go for ivory instead as a compromise but I was told that a bride shouldn't wear anything other than pure white. So I felt super stuck, and ended up feeling super confused and frustrated. I bought a $200 dress online that was pure white, but had tulle cap sleeves. Which was also a house disappointment because I had always wanted to go try on dresses with my mom and grandma and best friend. But because of the timing of the wedding, it wasn't possible and there was nothing we could afford in stores. The dress I bought ended up being too big in the bust and too tight in the hips so we took it for alterations. Seamstress was able to alter the bust so it fit properly, but the hips didn't have enough seam allowance to be taken out at all. So on the day of the wedding I couldn't even sit or go to the bathroom. I will say the dress did look really beautiful and I love my pictures, but everytime I think about it I'm just frustrated that I allowed so much control over what I wore. My family knew about all of the concessions we were making for the wedding and everyone said that in the future we should do a re-do and throw the wedding we wanted originally.
So we planned to do this for our 10 year anniversary which will be next year.
Now, we're in the midst of planning. We've seen so many venues, I've gotten so many quotes for services, and everything is so expensive that my husband is scared off of doing the big wedding I wanted. We've had to cut our guest list, and we're back on track to DIYing a bunch of stuff. The other day we were talking and I felt the way I did when we were getting married originally. Like I'm making all of these concessions for other people and because of money. We've saved money for a while and if we threw the wedding we want, we'd blow through our savings. I'm just feeling frustrated and I don't want to wait another 5 or 10 years to do this. Prices will still be going up and I'm thinking we'll just never be in a place to afford the wedding I had envisioned.
I really wanted this re-do to be a celebration of our relationship as well as a thank you to our friends and family for the support and all the work they did for our wedding. I don't want to ask them for help because I just want them to enjoy the event and not stress. But I'm also feeling conflicted because I want to enjoy the event with my husband rather than running around to make sure things run smoothly. We can't afford a wedding coordinator, DJ, or catering staff, we'll be doing a lot of the work ourselves.
It's looking like we're back to engaged and cutting our guest list as well as DIYing decor and probably running the whole event.
My husband doesn't want to spend $10,000 on the event anymore which is what we had discussed and agreed on. But he also hasn't come up with a new budget and everytime I suggest a number he says no, or says nothing. So I feel stuck. I don't even know where to start looking for a venue. I don't think this is going to happen anymore and I'm feeling really upset. I feel stupid that I care so much about this dumb party, and I feel like an ungrateful brat even though my family hasn't said anything about it and they support the re-do.
I guess I'm just looking for comfort, or perspective. Do I need to reevaluate my feelings on this? Should I just let it go and put the money toward something else like investing or something? I have no idea..

My husband and I got married 9 years ago when we were fairly young (24 years old) and had no money and no place to live. My parents are poor and we knew that any wedding we had would have to be really simple and inexpensive.
I've always wanted a big wedding with all my family and friends there, I wanted to wear a black tulle ball gown, I wanted a sit down dinner with everyone and lots of music and dancing. I made so many concessions for our wedding because of budget and time.
We had planned to get married in July on a day that is really important to us, but nothing was working out. So we ended up changing our date to May of the same year because it seemed like the only way things were going to work out which meant that a bunch of people who'd RSVP'd were unable to come. Most of my husband's family wasn't able to be there which was a huge bummer, and some of my out of town family wasn't able to get time off work or change travel plans.
At the time we were engaged I was sleeping on the floor of my mom's room in a two bedroom apartment that we shared with my two brothers and my dad. There was not enough space for all of us, and I wasn't making enough money to move out on my own. My husband and I both come from very religious families so moving in together before marriage was out of the question. We knew we'd get married eventually so we figured why not now. That way I could get out of the cramped apartment. (Plus there was a lot of stress with my dad, and I was on my way out of my religion which was causing more contention at home). Which is why we moved the date up rather than back.
My mom and my aunts basically DIY'd our whole reception which was AMAZING. We had a short and sweet ceremony on the beach near where we live, and had a short open-house type reception at a community center near by. There was no dinner, no dancing, and it was only a couple of hours long.
I need to preface the rest of this by saying I'm suuuper grateful for the wedding we had! Our families put so much work and effort to make sure we had a nice celebration that was affordable. We had a really fun time celebrating and taking photos during and after the event. I have really fond memories of the day and I love looking through our pictures of the day and remembering how exciting and fun it was.
Now I need to explain where I'm coming from.
Even though the community center worked great for the type of reception we did, it just didn't look that nice and I was pretty bummed out that that's all we could afford.
The food consisted of appetizers and cake. We never ate any food because we were running around saying hi to everyone and thanking them for driving the 1.5 hours to the coast to celebrate with us. The only cake I ate was the tiny slice we cut and then was shoved in my face. We had bought 3 cakes for everyone to eat and the smallest one which was 8" was sent home with us because everyone thought we wanted it for our 1st anniversary. It was a spice cake which cream cheese frosting that we ordered because some of our family really loves spice cake. So it never got communicated that we didnt want to take the whole cake home, but that we wanted our guests to eat it.
The dress was an issue. Like I mentioned before, I really wanted a black tulle ballgown. Everyone one in my family hated the idea and said I would regret wearing black when I saw my wedding photos. (And the photos were the only thing we splurged on so I didn't want to regret those). They also said a ball gown wouldn't make sense for the beach so I should go with something else. My mom and dad wanted me to be modest so I tried to find a dress with short sleeves that would be comfortable to wear in 80° weather on the beach. I was really loving the off the shoulder and sleeveless dresses and at the time they had more details I was looking for. I hated white, and I wanted to go for ivory instead as a compromise but I was told that a bride shouldn't wear anything other than pure white. So I felt super stuck, and ended up feeling super confused and frustrated. I bought a $200 dress online that was pure white, but had tulle cap sleeves. Which was also a house disappointment because I had always wanted to go try on dresses with my mom and grandma and best friend. But because of the timing of the wedding, it wasn't possible and there was nothing we could afford in stores. The dress I bought ended up being too big in the bust and too tight in the hips so we took it for alterations. Seamstress was able to alter the bust so it fit properly, but the hips didn't have enough seam allowance to be taken out at all. So on the day of the wedding I couldn't even sit or go to the bathroom. I will say the dress did look really beautiful and I love my pictures, but everytime I think about it I'm just frustrated that I allowed so much control over what I wore. Is anyone else having difficulty using the Amex Offers? In the last month, I've had to chat with an agent twice (both cases still unresolved as of yet) about offers added to my card that were not given the statement credit.
On both, Amex says it shows the purchase as ineligible. The first one was "Get a one-time $20 statement credit by using your enrolled eligible Card to spend a minimum of $100 in one or more purchases online at resortpass.com by 9/30/2024. See terms."
I purchased online at the resortpass website and then didn't receive the credit and it's currently being investigated.
Then just the other day there was the 40yr anniversary offer from JetBlue: "Get a one-time $50 statement credit by using your enrolled eligible Card to spend a minimum of $200 in one or more transactions directly with JetBlue Airways by 8/6/2024. Flight must originate in the US and purchase must be in USD. See terms."
I booked a flight after adding the offer, spent $400+ and am now working with Amex again on receiving the benefit.

We had an international flight from the UK -> US booked with 2 layovers. First flight went fine. We got to our connecting airport/terminal 5 hours before our connecting flight. Went to our terminal/gate right away, and lined up to board at our gate as soon as they started boarding. When we (me and my partner) went to scan our boarding passes, there was an error. We were then told that we no longer had seats/a valid boarding pass for that flight for an unknown reason and we needed to go to the customer service desk to be rebooked on another flight. Upon going to the customer service desk, 3 representatives tried to help us and no one could tell us why our boarding passes were invalidated/our seats given up. We had to be rebooked on another flight with an additional layover that delayed us getting to our destination by over 12 hours (into the next day). The only thing I can think of is that when we checked in for our first flight of the day, the employee who checked us in asked us if we wanted to get on an earlier flight to our connecting airport since we arrived at the airport so early (weâre 2+ hour early kind of people lol). We were hesitant but the employee almost insisted, and we agreed after being reassured it wouldnât mess up any of our connecting flights. Looking back, Iâm thinking it didnât link over in the system that we took an earlier flight and thought we âmissedâ our first flight and then automatically kicked us off all our connecting flights? Either way, this was clearly out of our control. We received all of our boarding passes when we checked in for our first flight and everything seemed normal. It was an expensive trip that turned into a miserable experience for us and totally derailed our trip. I have filled out the customer relations form online with AA twice now and cannot get a response. I tried chatting AA as well and they said âthis has to be done via emailâ and blew me off. Iâm at a loss for what to do now, also what kind of compensation should I expect/ask for since we were delayed by over 12 hours, but it wasnât because of a plane delay so so feel like thatâs a grey area?
