2024.05.15 06:01 Inside_Bad565 Rose Hancock Porteous interview with Mike Munro. "I can't hear you"

Rose Hancock Porteous interview with Mike Munro.
Remember when Mike Munro was interviewing Rose Porteous via satellite and she pretended she couldn't hear him while he was trying to ask her about not paying a Charity she promised a donation. I've looked all over and can only find one crappy edited clip from the daily motion that I've linked in the comments. The internet has otherwise been scrubbed of any reference.

2024.05.15 04:49 BoringIndependence44 IM GONNA SAY SOME THINGS PEOPLE NEED TO HEAR (IN 10 BULLET POINTS)

  1. To the people that took classes where they donated free As with voluntary finals, grade your own work, grading outstanding work, etc. I feel bad and good for you because you are getting good grades but the education you paid for is ruined. I think the strike was a double edged sword for these people's academics.
  2. The admins are currently in the process of administrating nothing into this university. I don't know how they can even be called an "administration" if all they administer is letters about graduate strikes that don't do anything for anyone/explain how they are still underpaying graduate workers.
  3. I like some of the BU Today emails but I think I have around 2000 of them stacked up in my email, mostly unopened.
  4. Rescheduling/moving of course offerings. Idk why they did it man but they moved one of my courses, that I already registered for, in the middle of finals week to days and hours that no longer worked for me so now I can't take that course anymore đŸ˜©
  5. The elevators/escalators at Warren were and probably still are unfixed. To my knowledge most elevators at warren do not have floor lights working. Also, two B tower elevators were not working for a whole semester. The long escalator going down hasn't worked since Fall 2023. The toilet by B tower needs Piza Tower levels of continuous renovation.
  6. During finals week all dining halls shut after 3 pm when I needed their high quality food for mere sustenance
  7. Most CDS floors require you to work quietly which is good for some people but it seems very anti-argument/anti-brainstorming/anti-vocal. I'm not saying an officer shows up if you are not quiet but it still seems limiting in some sense.
  8. This is kind of a me thing but instead of building CDS I think bu should have secured their ENTIRE campus on this side of the Charles River.
  9. Protests were tame at BU compared to other universities. I think one reason for this was the fact that BU does not have enough "grass". I do not consider BU Beach, whatever that thing is in front of COM, the shrubbery near the green line, or the trees on the sidewalk grass. This campus is literally a concrete hell, all stone no grass. I believe the city painted the bike lanes green to hypnotize us into seeing more grass around campus.
  10. Have a lovely summer everyone

2024.05.15 04:45 straight_tooken Final Season of Trivia

This is a bit advertisey.
I write/host a weekly trivia night (Amazing Brewery Quiz) at High and Dry on Wednesdays at 7pm to around 9:15ish. Like most trivia nights it's free, but we feature a rotating local charity every 4 weeks that people can donate to. Since we started up in August of 2021 it's raised $10k+ for the various groups like Healthcare for the Homeless, Mariposa Fund, and a bunch of other cool nonprofits.
Anyway, if you didn't know about it, or did but hadn't been in a while, I was letting people know that this Wednesday (5/15) is the start of the final 4-week season. Weekly winners get $25 to the brewery, and the season winner gets a small gift package donated from a local store (New Nuevo). So if anyone enjoyed the format (has a round kind of like the NYT Connections puzzle), 5/15, 5/22, 5/29, and 6/5 are the last chances.
High and Dry will keep having trivia on Wednesdays after 6/5. It just will be someone else and a different format. I'm just getting ready for a move.
Anyway, if you didn't know about it, feel free to come try. If you liked it previously, 5/15 is your last chance for a full season and 6/5 is the last chance at all. If you hated it (or even if you liked it) 6/12 is your chance for new trivia at High and Dry!

2024.05.15 04:05 Present_Focus_3592 How to transfer and re-personalize tickets via fansale in Austria, Germany and Switzerland

How to transfer and re-personalize tickets via fansale in Austria, Germany and Switzerland
It's me, hi. I got a few DMs asking how to transfer (sell) and re-personalize tickets via fansale. I thought I'd share them here to help others. These steps should be identical for fansale in Austria, Germany and Switzerland (sorry, swifties in other countries). I have included screenshots along with the steps. Fansale pages are in German. If you don't understand German, you can easily translate them to English in the browser.
  1. When you are ready to sell, go to your ticket in the app. Under the access code, there is a "sell" button. After you click on "sell," the app will show you fansale page where you will need to log in with your email address and password.
  2. After you log in, fansale will ask you to provide detailed information about your offer such as ticket price, offer duration, and right of first refusal, etc (screenshot #1). By default, fansale offers the face value of the ticket. You can change the price from 1 euro to the maximum of the face value. On this page, you will also see the amount of refund you will get back. Note: You will get 100% of the offer price back on Fansale.de but only 90% of the offer price on fansale.at because of 10% service charge to the seller. On fansale.de, the credit will be sent to the IBAN, usually take 7-10 business days. On fansale.at, the credit will be sent to the original form of payment used to purchase the tickets, almost instantly.
If you are selling your tickets to someone, it is very important to choose the option of "RIGHT OF FIRST REFUSAL." With this option, fansale will provide a link valid for 48 hours which you can share with the person to whom you will be selling the tickets. Without this option, your offer will be visible to all users to purchase.
After all the details of your offer are carefully entered, click "Further"
  1. After clicking "Further," the next page will ask you to check all the details again (screenshot #2). Double-check the purchase price and how much you will get back. Check if "Right of first refusal" is on the page if you are selling the ticket to someone. After all look ok, agree to the conditions and click "Publish Offer"
  2. The final step is the confirmation of your offer (Screenshot 3). It shows that the offer has been placed with the right of first refusal. Fansale will show you a link that you can copy and paste to share or email the link to the person who will receive the right of first refusal.
Note: If you are selling tickets on fansale.de for the first time, you will need to provide IBAN. If you list the tickets for €1, you can find a charity in Germany and just donate €1 to the charity. If tickets are listed at face value, you can use WISE app and sign up for an account that comes with IBAN.
That is about it. I hope it helps and that I don't ever need to deal with fansale again after the tour is over. 😉
You counted days and you counted miles. Have a blast at the concert. You deserve it after all the efforts. Cheers!

2024.05.15 03:32 HollingersCat Where should I donate a broken SLR?

So I'm going to be visiting the Green Bank Telescope in West Virginia later this year and the hiking area around it (and the other telescopes on the grounds) do not allow any digital cameras or phones since it interferes with the telescope's readings. Only analog cameras are allowed.
I had gone last year without a camera and really regretted it because there is so much cool stuff in the area I would have loved to try taking photos off. I'm not a photographer in the slightest, but had always liked the idea of giving it a try and thought this might be a decent excuse to buy a camera.
I decided to get a used Nikon N60 + Nikkor 28-80mm f/3.3-5.6G lens together off Facebook Marketplace for $35. I know it's a pretty obsolete camera, but I'm a graduate student on a pretty tight budget. When I was looking through the viewfinder I noticed some dust spots and found out that it was on the camera's sensor. It looked like the repair place closest to me charged $50 for sensor cleanings and I really can't afford that, so I decided to try cleaning the sensor myself. I'm sure you see where this is going.
I bought a little $10 kit online with a little air blower and some dry swabs. And, somehow, the sensor wound up even worse than before. I also think I broke something in the lens connector when taking the lens off because now I'm getting a FEE error as well. (I've tried all the error fixes I can find online - set the aperture to F22, locked the aperture, shifted the aperture around a whole bunch, etc. - but nothing has worked.) And I definitely can't afford however much that fix would cost.
So, at this point, I'm kinda stuck. I honestly don't want to resell the camera - the nearest used camera shop is 40+ mins away and I their online quote thing says they're not buying either the body or the lens right now. And I feel slimy buying something used, breaking it, and then just turning around and selling it to someone else. I also do not have time to deal with trying to ship it anywhere or sell it online since I will be traveling a lot very soon. And, while the lens is fine, I can't afford to buy a new body to go with it.
I'm thinking of donating the camera and lens together to a local charity shop, but I'm worried a broken, obsolete camera wouldn't sell and it would be more trouble for them than it's worth. It also doesn't have a case so I'm worried it would get more broken in the process. Does anyone have any ideas of where a broken camera could do the most good at this point? I at least want something somewhat positive to come out of this absolute disaster I managed to make for myself. (And I'm not interested in selling/trading it with anyone on here, sorry - just looking for donation ideas.)
TL;DR: I have a used Nikon N60 that a managed to totally screw up (botched sensor cleaning + probably broken lens connector) and a Nikkor 28-80mm f/3.3-5.6G lens that I'm thinking about donating to a charity shop. Would that be more trouble for the charity shop than it's worth? Is there somewhere else I could donate the camera where it would do the most good?

Demographics:
Academics:

Schools that stick out for me that I'd want to apply to of many different difficulties and that are in no particular order:
  1. Drexel
  2. University of Michigan
  3. GA Tech (I realize that this is a big reach)
  4. University of Maryland, College Park
  5. Notre Dame
  6. UT Austin
  7. University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (Grainger)
The list is very incomplete and I have yet to visit some of these campuses but I was wondering as of now what my odds would be at some of these schools and what I might have to do in the future in order to have a better shot at getting into these places

2024.05.15 01:37 theymademedoitagain How can I create a simple quiz like this?

I'm a designer and content creator working with charities. I'd like to propose a simple online quiz like this: https://campaign.refuge.org.uk/page/145184/-/1
The quiz starts with a couple questions, then asks you to sign up to their mailing list and finally gives you results and asks if you'd like to donate. You can easily skip these steps too and just view results.
I've no idea where to get started. I've traced it to Engaging Networks software (it's where it takes you if you remove page/145184/-/1 from the URL) but it looks like their package starts at $18k a year. I'd love to get this done for cheaper while also do as much as I can myself.
Does anyone know of a software providing this type of a solution? If not, what kind of knowledge is needed for this? And if you're a developer, how much would you charge for something like this?

2024.05.15 01:27 gabbipentin300mg A would you rather for my retail techs

would you rather ask every customer to make a donation to charity OR ask every customer to get a vaccine same day?
edit: forgot to add my answer lol i’d personally choose charity because at worst it’s a one and done answer. with vaccines it somehow turns into anti-vax, looking up what shots a person actually need in a database that takes foreverrrr to load

2024.05.15 01:03 DeepAd5387 Dunning letters by subsidiary

We are in the process of bringing on an additional subsidiary who would also like to use the dunning module. In the event that two subsidiaries share a customer, we want to send one dunning letter per subsidiary with the balance the customer owes just to that specific subsidiary, and a statement specific to that sub.
Our customers are set up where the primary subsidiary is the holding company, and then the rest of the subsidiaries are listed as additional subsidiaries on the "subsidiaries" tab.
I've explored using invoice dunning and don't think this is the best option because we don't want to send out a letter for each individual invoice. It seems that our best option is to control this via the fields we are pulling in to the dunning template(s). The reason I'm slightly optimistic is because if you go to the "Subsidiaries" tab on the customer record, you can see a field for the balance by subsidiary. I'm hoping this could mean there are subsidiary level controls available.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I've been spinning my wheels on this for a while now

2024.05.15 00:54 Nitrogen70 A customer blamed me for his feet being sore.

An old man asked me where the cranberry juice was. Both the bagger and I told him that it was on Aisle 12 because that’s where all of the juices and sodas are kept. We figured that was where it would be.
Later, the same old man checked out at my lane, so I asked him if he had a discount card. I saw him type his phone number into the card reader, so I figured he must’ve had one. Then I offered to enter his phone number for him because he said he couldn’t access it.
He got frustrated and acted as if I wasn’t listening, saying that he didn’t have an account at all. I apologized for apparently not listening and offered to get a discount card for him, but then he replied,
“I don’t have time. I’ve been walking all over the store and my feet hurt. And by the way, the cranberry was in AISLE 6, not Aisle 12.”
In other words, he was saying that because I didn’t know where it was, his feet got sore from walking just to find it.
I didn’t bother to ask him to donate a dollar for charity because I figured he wouldn’t be in the mood. After he left, I thought about the interaction while waiting for another customer to arrive. I felt like garbage.
That’s not the only time a customer has made me feel small. This one customer who told me that he was “going to give me something to do” because I looked bored asked me why I was laughing when I chuckled at what he said.
Uh
because I don’t know how else to respond to someone saying I look bored?
That’s what happened. I guess I’m just too sensitive.

2024.05.15 00:47 Parking-Bar8183 Which charitable organisation can I donate to have the largest impact?

When I lived in developing countries I could visibly see the impact donations were having via legitimate charities.
$1000 won't go far here but in a regional area in a developing country where many live below the poverty line it's a small fortune.
Just looking for suggestions regarding donations via Australian registered charities that do something similar to help those in developing nations or locally.

2024.05.15 00:07 plantpot3366 Does the DWP extend the month time limit to call for a Mandatory Reconsideration?

My care coordinator at the CMHT told me I should contact the DWP to send him the evidence template (or something like that) so he could fill it out with evidence of my mental health issues for a PIP mandatory reconsideration.
I only have 8 days or so though till it’s been a month since I received the PIP award letter so I don’t have long and it might be too late.
1) If I call the DWP, will they extend the month time limit if I tell them I need time to get the evidence and forms?
2) Does my Care Coordinator need the DWP to send him a letter for him to fill out or can he just write a letter himself? If the latter is possible, what form would this letter be in? He said he did it with another patient where the DWP sent him a letter for him to fill out the evidence.
Thanks in advance.

2024.05.14 23:39 Striking_Refuse_7446 Red Wedding Dress - Marlow

Hi All, I know this seems like a shot in the dark, but worth a shot
In 2018 (I think?) my grandma had a bit of a break down and donated my mother’s wedding dress to a charity shop on Marlow High Street - we have only now discovered that she did this. The dress was dark red / maroon and floor-length, not a traditional wedding dress by any means but stunning and extraordinarily sentimental. Anyway, of course it is very unlikely that anyone here would’ve seen it but I am posting this on the off chance. Thank you :)

2024.05.14 23:34 Serious-Income-5555 Today I got into an argument about how much money she gave away and the person still wasn’t pleased.

Let’s say Taylor started donating in 2012 and has continued that up until now she probably has given away 500k plus the millions she has give away.it will take you 5 minutes to see all of the charities and stuff that she has donated too plus the none public stuff. Taylor could give away 200 million and people still wouldn’t be happy but I do think Taylor has a plan for her money when she leaves this earth i think she will give some of it to her kids if she has any and probably give the rest away to charities.
In my opinion Taylor is one of the most generous artists out there and nicest celebrities out there. People always say how she is a horrible person where exactly is the proof everyone that has worked with her at one point has said she was nice. Celebrities always say she is nice for example Emily blunt recently said she was nice. Haters say she takes advantage of her fans but I don’t think so i think she has earned their trust over the years and that’s why they are always purchasing stuff when they can because they know she isn’t going to do bad stuff with the money.
People always say that we don’t know her but we know the basics of her life and some private things that she felt the need to share with us like how she felt about fame. If anyone was wondering i think the post was on popheads earlier today.

2024.05.14 23:33 flarkey I have a spare RAH Ticket - what should I do....?

The title basically says it all. I managed to get 4 tickets for Friday at the Royal Albert Hall - not the best seats, in the middle at the back of the circle but hey they're seats! These were the ÂŁ150 seats. I have friends that I bought two tickets for and i expectated that one of their wives would want to go too so I bought a 4th ticket. But sadly not. And I don't have any other mates who are Gilmour fans - So I have a spare.
What should I do? Although it's tempting to sell on viagogo for ÂŁ3k I don't think I could live with the guilt. But I am aware of the massive demand for tickets, so I'm thinking maybe I can do some good. I'm actually thinking of selling for face value on here, but with the caveat that whoever buys it has to donate a sum of money to charity. Do you think this is the way to go - or should I just grab that cash with both hands and make a stash...?

2024.05.14 22:49 depressioncat69 Why do we "waste" money on breast cancer?

From admitedly very surface level research lung and bronchus cancer has a higher fatality rate than breast cancer on top of also being able to help men with cancer. With a quick skim of a few breast cancer charities the money donated goes primarily into curing the cancer rather than preventing it with xrays, is breast cancer not rather preventive if you catch it early through double mastectomies? Would attempting to prevent something not be more efficient than curing it?
If anyone has any info regarding this please share, im very curios (I apologise for any language mistakes or formating english is my second language and im on mobile)
