2024.05.13 23:17 Zeddblidd Cujo (1983)

2024-182 / Zedd MAP: 78.80 / MLZ MAP: 83.63 / Score Gap: 4.83
Wikipedia?wprov=sfti1#) / IMDb / Official Trailer / Saw it on HBOMax
Now, somehow - don’t ask me - somehow this particular Stephen King adaptation has escaped our grasp. There’s really no good reason either. Mrs. Lady Zedd says “it’s just very scary”…
From IMDb: Cujo, a friendly St. Bernard, contracts rabies and conducts a reign of terror on a small American town.
…and it is scary. I’ve read many of his books but only a fraction that MLZ has plowed through - and the fright in this particular story sinks in (psychologically) because it’s possible.
We’ve two large dogs - German Shepards - neither were socialized as pups, so we keep them well controlled, but man - mine isn’t the house to break into. When there’s a strange noise at night ((shakes head)), they don’t go berserk - they hunt.
Our female, Brunnhilda, stays behind and makes quiet but forceful “woof wood woof” sounds while our male, Fritz goes into stealth mode. Thing is - this will sound silly - Fritz is a “toe tapper”. He enjoys tapping his toenails as he walks -but- while he’s investigating, you’d never hear (or see) him coming. Brunnhilda is woofing to distract - Fritz, he’s doing his job - he’s gonna get you.
As we’re watching the event’s unfold, we’re under attack from above - we’re under one hell of a thunderstorm. It certainly has lent an air of menace to the atmosphere on screen. I can’t help but to lean into the terror - if there was a rabid St. Bernard coming at me… damn, I just hate only having a Ford Pinto between me and those gnashing, snarling teeth.
MLZ added, “Didn’t those Pintos blow up in accidents?”
Yes, there was a big scuttlebutt back in the day about Pintos exploding in rear-end crashes. Watching a 150lb dog head-butt the car over and over… dang - this could have ended much differently… just saying.
All things considered, it’s a film that (frankly) belongs on my shelf - not as well put together as say, The Shining or Stand By Me but certainly better than other adaptations that I do have.
Side note: in the movie, Dee Wallace’s character fends off our diseased doggo but fails to fend off the advances of local handyman / carpenter Steve Kemp - played by real life husband Christopher Stone.
That’s a whole other way to movie on

2024.05.13 20:04 thisisscorpion Best wig/hair beauty stores

Hi, I was recently diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer and lost all my hair from chemotherapy. I purchased a few wigs from the beauty store by whole foods on broad and visited a few other stores along the way. So far the store by whole foods and a store on St Bernard across the street from Cajun seafood have been the best. I am new to realistic everyday wigs. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!!! Thank you!

2024.05.13 04:40 PublicExtension4107 Animated movie about St. Bernard dog

Many years ago I watched this animated movie that aired on Discovery Hub. I can’t remember the name of it, but it was about this St.Bernard dog who wanted to be famous and he was kinda a jerk. There was one scene where the dog got into a fight with a human guy (probably his manager) and the guy yelled “You dirty, filthy mutt!” as he threw the him across the room. I guess the other dogs were cheering for him and he finally went to Hollywood, idk. It looked like a Disney movie or something similar to Iron Giant.
If you guys know what movie I’m talking about, let me know in the comments.

2024.05.12 18:55 itrustyouguys Fuck the shorties and bears. They have the exchanges in their pockets, and have been trying to destroy companies for over a hundred years.

Just happened to catch something on the History Channel thus morning. Prior to around the 1910's, grocery stores were much different than what we know today. The real 2 innovators were Bernard Kroger in Cincinnati OH, who is the namesake of Kroger today; and Clarence Saunders in Memphis TN, who started Piggly Wiggly.
Kroger decided to own stores and provide distribution. That's why they are a large employer in America today. But Saunders decided to patent his store designs and layouts so he could sell franchises of his Piggly Wiggly stores.
Here is the rest from wiki: In the early 1920s Saunders began construction of a pink marble mansion in Memphis. Then, in early 1923, a group of franchised outlets in New York failed. Merrill Lynch(*needs citation) and other speculators on Wall Street attempted a bear raid on the price of Piggly Wiggly stock, gambling the price would fall. With a loan of $10 million from a number of Southern bankers, plus a bit of his own money, Saunders counteracted by buying a large amount of Piggly Wiggly stock in hopes of driving up the price. He flamboyantly declared his intent in newspaper ads. Saunders bought Piggly Wiggly stock until he had orders for 196,000 of the 200,000 outstanding shares. The firm's share price went from a low of $39 in late 1922 to $124 by March 20, 1923. Pressured by the 'bears', the New York Stock Exchange declared a 'corner' existed, and gave the 'bears' five days rather than the usual 24 hours to deliver the stock Saunders had bought. The additional time meant "a flood of stock poured [in] from distant points and gave the shorts opportunity to deliver."[7]
In the words of John Brooks, "...in mid-August, with the September 1st deadline for repayment of two and a half million dollars on his loan staring him in the face and with nothing like that amount of cash either on hand or in prospect, he resigned as president of Piggly Wiggly Stores, Inc., and turned over his assets—his stock in the company, his Pink Palace, and all the rest of his property—to his creditors."[5]
The exchanges have never been about protecting the individual investors. It's always been about the bankers and bears on Wall St. And we are to believe they will self regulate with all these other agencies? They are all in on it too. Fines are just a taste for allowing crime to happen. Until people's professions and livelihoods are on the table, nothing will ever change.
I think it's time to refocus on how important and frightening the phrase "NO CELL, NO SELL" truly is to these hedgefucks. Like a said OVER 2 YEARS AGO
NOTHING BUT FORTUNES AND FREEDOMS WILL SUFFICE.
When this does finally play out, apes will give name to a new type of trader. Spartan Pirates. We do not sell until people are in jail. Hoist the colors, give no quarter, leave them nothing, but take from them everything.

2024.05.12 12:06 horizon_hopper AITA for not petsitting ‘properly’ and causing a fallout?

My partner and I live around five minutes away from my partners sister and husband and we agreed once we moved here that we would be happy to occasionally pet sit for each other.
This weekend it was our turn. They have two outdoor cats (not a problem) but one absolutely gigantic St Bernard they treat as their baby. Their flat is small, and he is primarily kept in the living room all day. He usually goes for massive daily walks though. Very hot here and my partner and I are small women so they said it was fine to not walk him while we pet sit
So pop down in the morning around 9am and stay till 11am, everyone’s fed, played with and happy.
Pop down again around 6pm, only stay for around 45 minutes.
Now here’s where it all goes downhill. Between visits. Asked my partner to do the last evening check after her work, she hadn’t eaten all day for the nine hour shift and she just popped in for ten minutes at 10pm to give dinner and make sure the cats were home safe and the dog had been out for the bathroom
As she gets home we get a message asking how they were this evening. I said they were good. Then SIL messages ‘let me rephrase we know you only visited for five minutes we saw on the camera can you go back down and spend actual time with him, we are seriously disappointed’
So we message back saying he was completely fine, but she began blowing up my partners phone with messages about how let down she was, how anxious she was about the animals, how we shouldn’t agree to pet sit if we won’t do it properly. We explained I have spent near 3 hours with them today, she fired back that he usually spends 24 hours with someone so 3 hours is nothing. I get that. But we only were told to visit occasionally and now I’m feeling like a shit person.
We were very uncomfy with the idea that she was watching us on the camera probably every time I was there, she should be enjoying her holiday.
We said, again, that we understand the anxiety. But they have had their needs met. But no, she went off again saying he needs people time and that one of us needs to back down and watch an episode of a tv show or something with him. Which, I mean, baffling. He’s not an anxious dog, in fact he gets over excited and doesn’t settle when I visit. He paces and can’t relax.
To avoid my partner falling out with her sister I say I’ll go back and sit with him. 11pm till 12am I sat and watched tv then left. He was so tired he was slipping all over the place and didn’t settle. I think I did more harm than good being there personally, but it’s not my dog and my SIL was on her 70th ‘I’m disappointed in you, I have extreme anxiety, you’re letting us down’ but thankfully stopped once I said I was going again.
So now I’m sitting with him this morning again, and things just feel bloody awkward between the four of us. And I can’t stop glancing at the cameras. AITA here?

Montreal streetcars need to make a comeback
Found this old transit map from the 50s and I find it incredible how we could have lost such a vast streetcar network.
The city needs to rebuild this give transit exclusive lanes to improve living conditions for everyone in the city. Just imagine how pleasant the city would become with streetcars passing by regularly and with drastically less cars barreling down every street.
How can we make this change happen ?

2024.05.11 08:45 Ed_EDD_n_Eddy Please need suggestions for cancer on dog's paw

My dog's paw , My dog 11yo has Osteoblastic cancer, initially the growth started on her paw.
Its an St.Bernard doc said she wont be able to handle amputation, chemo has too many sideeffects, we reached to the decision to just accept the harsh truth, and make her remaining days as comfortable as possible.
The current problem is that her paw just doesnt heal properly, so we are stuck in a loop of taking her to walk, the wound starts bleeding, rebandage (yes we are applying other medication), rinse&repeat.
Please is there any prosthetic that I can get, or any diy solution that can either suspend/ reduce weight on her leg ?

Been trading crypto for around 2 years and all I can say is people that perform rugpulls are bloody wankers.
It’s my own stupid fault and have only fallen pray to it twice and thankfully only ~£100.
If you’re reading this and perform rugpulls - fuck you. Stop stealing peoples hard earned money. We’re trying to make Crypto more legitimate for people that are sceptical and you pricks like you don’t help.
If you’re an aformentioned wanker and have just bought a new 80” QLED TV with the money you’ve pinched I hope the delivery driver drops it on your driveway and then an an angry St Bernard takes a whopping great shite on it.
To all the legit devs and holders out there - much love - stay vigilant ❤️

2024.05.09 20:15 AutoModerator Lessons learned from 104 pounds of weight loss [Tip]

So, I figure after 104 pounds of weight loss I've learned a thing or two about the process. Here's what I've learned. Perhaps some of it is of use to someone else.
  1. High fat/protein, low carb diet works wonders for me. For other people it may be a different mix that produces the best results, but don't skimp on the protein, it protects your muscle mass while you lose fat!
  2. You can't successfully lose weight and keep it off unless you are 100% committed to it FOR YOURSELF. Not because you need to for health reasons, not because you're doing it for your significant other, or parents, or boss or your doctor. Not because of social pressure that says you should. You have to WANT it for yourself, in a deep and meaningful way. But once you fully internalize the desire to lose weight, it's easy as pie and doesn't feel like an effort at all.
  3. Don't estimate ANYTHING when it comes to food, even if it's a portion pre-set by the manufacturer. For example, I bought a package of bratwurst. The package says a serving size is 1 brat, or 78 grams. But when I weigh a brat, it's 92 grams. All the brats are 88-95 grams. None of them are anywhere near 78 grams. The egg carton says a large egg weighs 42 grams, but when I weigh them (no shell) they rarely weigh less than 48 grams, and 50-52 grams is more common. Packages are very inaccurate in this way. Trust the weight, not the item by piece. And it's amazing how fast those extra calories add up!
  4. Choose a fitness routine that you will ENJOY. If you like dancing, take Zumba. If you love running, run. If you prefer a social setting like the gym and talking to other folks while working out, then do that. Did you love hiking as a kid? Find trails near you and get outside! You are a lot more likely to stick with it if you're enjoying yourself.
  5. Eat the foods you like! You don't have to abandon everything you love. I love cheesecake. So sometimes I budget a giant piece of cheesecake (650 calories) as my entire breakfast. Or lunch. Sometimes I'll eat an entire pint of Halo Top ice cream just because. And guess what? It's mostly protein and fat - great for a low carb diet, and unless you're on a 1200 calorie diet, you still have room for a small steak in your meal.
  6. Treat yourself! Keep a small stash of a favorite item in tiny portions, like Hershey's Kisses. Budget yourself one or two a day into your diet plan. It helps to stave off naughty cravings. If you have low self-control, maybe this one's not for you, unless you have a family member who can keep them hidden and dole them out as per your calorie budget.
  7. Take a total splurge day every once in a while just for sanity's sake. Just say screw it and eat whatever you want that will make you happy, 4000 calories if you want! It's your birthday. Or it's a big family picnic. Thanksgiving. Or you have to attend a work banquet. For one day each month or two, just forget your diet, though you may find that your stomach has shrunk and you couldn't eat as much as you use to, no matter how hard you try. The next day, get back to your diet as if your splurge never happened. No guilt. One day of complete indulgence doesn't invalidate the rest of your diet plan.
  8. Make sure the kind of diet you choose is sustainable. It's not temporary. It's for life. Once you reach your goal weight you can increase your calories to maintenance, but if you go back to eating the way you did before, that weight is coming right back. So whatever you choose to eat on your new dietary plan, can you be mentally and physical keep that up for decades?
  9. Hitting a plateau is frustrating, and can last for a month or more, but if you stick to your plan the big whoosh at the end is sometimes more exciting and validating than constant little steps. My biggest whoosh, 3 full pounds overnight, came at the end of 5 weeks of plateau, then was followed by another 4 pounds over the next week.
  10. When you set your goals, know your body frame. Height isn't everything when it comes to the best weight for your body, no matter what the damn charts say. You also have to consider bone structure and muscle type. Do you have a greyhound type skeleton or a St Bernard type skeleton under the mass you want to get rid of? When you get fit, do your muscles bulk up, or slim down? If your skeletal and muscle frame is sturdy like a St Bernard, or a German Shepherd, or a bulldog, you'll just hurt yourself trying to look like a sleek, slim greyhound or whippet. I'm built big - a St. Bernard, if you will. A typical Victoria Secret model's ribcage would probably fit comfortably inside of mine, even if she's taller than me. At 5'9" I was lean at 154 pounds, compared to Victoria Secret model Candice Swanepoel, who at 5'10" is 119 pounds. I have come to terms with the base my DNA has given me, and I can work with it. I'll never be a Victoria's Secret model, but I damn well can be an Amazon warrior!

2024.05.09 18:45 HinduKussy Yeti is a Bad Name (Explained)

Yeti is a Bad Name (Explained)
Yeti seems to be gathering quite a bit of traction and I’m inclined to believe it’s from a lot of people that aren’t familiar with the NHL (this was a big concern of mine when it was announced there would be open voting, the culture and history of hockey is important and should factor into the name).
Yetis have been synonymous with the Colorado Avalanche since their move and rebranding from Quebec. For years, they had a yeti mascot named Howler. It was only after Howler and a fan of an opposing team got into a physical altercation that Colorado decided to scrap Howler.
In addition to their mascot, the Avs also had yeti foot as their secondary logo (second and third photo slides). It was their shoulder logo from the start and they continued to use it for years even after their replacement mascot, Bernie (a St. Bernard), was adopted. To this day, it continues to be a prominent logo with fans and still sold on all types of merchandise.
Colorado Avalanche fans on all social media platforms constantly wish for Howler and the foot to come back. It’s a historical branding of their team and was prominent with them when they won their first two Cups. The yeti foot in particular has much deeper historical meaning due to one of their most beloved players, Adam Foote, being an integral part of the team when they won those early Cups. His number is also retired by the team.
The point is, yeti is a lazy copy of a prominent piece of history (which continues to this day through merchandise) in a team that is right next door to us. It is not unique in the slightest and doesn’t even make much sense considering yetis are “from” Nepal, nowhere remotely close to Utah. While I don’t think we necessarily need a name that is completely relevant to Utah, it’s just another minor point against the name after factoring in all of the Avalanche history.
Maybe the Avs’ history isn’t a factor to some of you, I’m not sure. Maybe some of you don’t even know about this connection, but these are my thoughts on the name as a lifelong Sharks fan and as a kid who grew up idolizing Peter Forsberg which led me to following the team for years.
Curious what the rest of you guys think.

2024.05.09 18:12 scottgf99 Fences?

I am planning on putting up a fence so I can just let my st Bernard out without having to have him on a lead or leash. Anyone have any recommendations for what kind of fence? I am currently leaning towards chain link but am not sure if the normal 11.5 gauge would work or if I should go with 9 gauge. Also I am thinking of doing 6ft but would 5 ft work? My puppy is only 4 months old but seems to be pretty lazy and doesn't really jump or anything. The most I'm worried about is when he gets the zoomies and if he happened to run head first into the fence. Any thought are appreciated! Thanks

Ill copy & paste from other post.

  1. Amputation from above the knee
  2. Chemotherapy, docetaxel(nano paclitaxel), he said there are tons of side effects.
  3. Take care of her until final days. (along with some medications to help her)
This is my first time dealing with any of this, I dont know what to do.
Second biggest problem is since she has cancetumor on her paw, there is wound there that keeps on bleeding whenever she walks, so it hasnt even healed for over a month now. Is there any kind of prosthetic which can enable her to not put weight on her paw directly ?
Any advice would be so appreciated.

200lb Dog - Doing the best I can!
With a 200lb St. Bernard running (and peeing) around the yard I can only do so much. I’ve been overseeding twice a year with clover which seems to be pretty pee resistant and drought resistant. It also is filling in the dead spots nicely as the grass dies from his gallons of urine per day. Not the best lawn, but considering the circumstances I think it’s about the best that can be done! Someday the grass will be greener, but that will mean I won’t have my best friend.
