2024.05.14 18:17 PinkGummyBear74 I (33F) found out my boyfriend (36M) emotionally cheated on me when we first started dating. How can I get past this?

Long time lurker, first time posting because I’m in need of advice and it’s eating away at me. I can’t really speak about this to anyone in my circle.
I apologize for the long post in advance.
So, my (33F) boyfriend (36M) and I have been together a little over two years. I don’t think I’ve ever loved anyone this much.
Bit of relevant background information: My BF was married for 9, almost 10 years. He has two kids from said marriage. (2 boys). She cheated on him with at least 3 people (that he knows of) and only cared about how much money he could provide for the family and disregarded his feelings constantly. (Telling him to “man up”, “stop crying and be a man”, “it’s not a real job unless you’re making six figures”, “this guy at work has bigger muscles than you, he’s so hot to look at”), would drain their bank account on whatever she pleased, including supporting her best friend’s drug habit and run ins with the law. The list goes on. She was his first….everything. Kiss, sex, marriage, etc.
I found out recently that about a month or two after we started dating, he was flirting with/hyping up his ex wife through text messages, and was expressing doubts about me. I never felt the need to go through his phone till I just had that gut feeling. I'm an overthinker, and I remember seeing how much he used to be glued to his phone vs now years later. It was always conveniently his ex's name popping up as well. Seeing as to how we agreed to an open phone policy early on in the relationship due to trust issues from past relationships, I decided to act on it. I fucked around and found out.
Hyping her up was obviously an issue on its own; However, he also seemed to be putting me down in the process of trying to make her feel better about herself. She was complaining about her insecurities. He was saying stuff like “Stop it. You’re the most attractive person I’ve ever been with. You’re a goddamn smoke show”. Then proceeded to list all of her positive physical attributes, along with how he didn’t know if he really found me physically attractive.
Despite how she treated him, they had a very active sex life. He was simultaneously complaining to her that we (him and I) weren’t having sex enough at the time (fair, I was anxious about sex in general due to past trauma from multiple abusive relationships). It took me a couple months to feel “safe enough” to open up sexually and for us to have a regular sex life. whereas he was telling her how he missed sex with her, they just should’ve made more time dedicated to their sex life around the kids.
The thing is, I never felt any indication of this at the time. He seemed to be understanding of my past sexual trauma, my hesitancies to trust another man, ensuring me that he was willing to wait as long as it took for me to feel comfortable with him (including sexually), everything. Always telling me I was attractive in various ways. How excited he was to get to know me; Would constantly tell me no woman made him feel so valued, like he was worth their time. Now I can’t help but to wonder what else he seemingly lied about. Or how much did he even mean what he said in the beginning while still fawning over her at the same time unbeknownst to me.
After those few text messages though, this type of talk seemed to stop. It went to strictly business only. Only interacting when its about the kids. No multiple paragraph messages reminiscing on their love for each other. No telling her how hot she is compared to me, nothing. They just stopped around the time he started to tell me he loved me.
Long story less long, I confronted him about these messages when I found them last week. I sobbed, he sobbed. He apologized profusely, stating he was just so unsure of me in the beginning and resorted to someone that was a source of comfort in the past (which I don’t get because, well, she treated him awful for the last like…6 years of their marriage). He then said something about how she was the only person he went to for external problems in the past because he doesn’t have many friends and he would vent to her about work, his family, etc. So again, she was basically all he knew from a young age. He then stated I’ve shown him what a healthy relationship is supposed to be like. That he feels he had rose colored glasses even then. To where he felt like he could somehow re-kindle with her. But he knows now that if he ended up doing that, he would’ve been miserable anyway. He made it a point to tell me he loves ME, not her; And that he doesn’t want to be with anyone else but me, how much he loves me, etc.
He has basically been my constant source of happiness, safety, and comfort until now. Now all I see are the text messages. I have a hard time feeling like he’s truly even attracted to me. He DOES constantly tell me I’m beautiful, gorgeous, sexy, a “goddess”, etc. But he also did in the beginning of our relationship when those messages were sent to her. Or maybe he’s only slightly attracted to me but regardless, in my mind, I am always being compared to his ex wife and I just don’t…measure up physically. I know I have quite a bit of insecurities and self esteem issues when it comes to my body/face. I have struggled feeling pretty/hot/whatever enough since I was a child. (Long story but for very valid reasons). However, before these messages, I was able to ignore them and just be happy. Now? I’m just not as pretty as her. Her hair is longer than mine. Her makeup is better than mine. I’m curvy/thick, she’s skinny and in perfect shape. I can’t stop comparing myself to her and I’m…going insane. Or so it feels. I just can’t compete with her physical beauty. I can’t compete with her having all of his firsts. I feel like she was the love of his life simply because of their time together and the fact she gave him his pride and joy-his kids. I mean, who forgets their first love? I can't compete with that bond they share. I can’t stop crying about it.
I guess I'm just curious if anyone here went through something similar, and maybe has some tips for finding their self worth again? Feeling pretty again? Or if anyone thinks him and I can move past this without the constant sting of betrayal looming around.
TL;DR: Boyfriend emotionally cheated on me with his ex wife at the beginning of our relationship. I’m finding out now after 2 years together. He states it was due to being unsure of me in the beginning of our relationship, but he’s never been more sure of me now. He was unsure of marrying ever again until he met me How do I recover from the insecurities this has caused to be brought back out unexpectedly? Was anyone here able to move on after something similar?

2024.05.14 18:14 Evangelion2004 Dogra Magra: Welcome Back, Me Update

Hello again...
It has been a while...
This month marks two years since I began this gargantuan task of translating Dogra Magra. I couldn't believe that I began this at my first year and now I'm about to end my third year. I'll admit that progress has been very slow. It has been eating at me how slow I've been working. I've at least 250 or so pages to go, and yet, it feels like I'm Sisyphus painfully rolling that stone up the hill, but in my case, I couldn't even get to the peak.
I apologize for the delay. I know I said that I'd give the update on the 23rd of April, but it's now May 15 (where I'm from). I'm sorry.
I picked this date to celebrate the birthday of Mikhail Bulgakov, whose work, The Master and Margarita, is, alongside The Brothers Karamazov, my favorite novel of all time. It was this magic I need after the various novels of realism I had been buying these days. I needed this profound book infused with biting satire and an absurd yet funny plot to bring variety to my readings. A definite reading, I say. I've read it three times the past two months since I bought it...
Third year is almost over, and yet I feel that it had been draining what remained of my enthusiasm for anything. From documentaries to researches to a live TV broadcast, I felt that I've been too tired to do anything these days. And yet, after this comes the mandatory OJT. I can only pray that my will to write continues to stay strong.
I will admit... I had somewhat lost my enthusiasm with translating. It was painful to even look at my text. I was already considering just vanishing altogether and moving on. I began to doubt myself as I always have, but even stronger than before. Thoughts of inadequacy, of mediocrity, of self-hatred just came to me.
But, I had an epiphany. A certain user told me how much he liked my translation, and he felt the hard work I put into doing it. I realized that my work was not in vain. In this one user, I found that I had successfully given Q-san's words light in the English language. I, an amateur, had managed to give Q-san's words the honor it deserves.
And now, looking back at my text, yet to be edited, filled with some errors, and 200 plus pages long, instead of dread and hatred, I felt pride and wonder at myself for the work I had done. And juggling this with college was even more impressive looking back.
So, I came back and tried to churn out a good number of pages in the week before today. I was rusty, I admit, but I made it up with my newfound enthusiasm. I am now confident that I can deliver Q-san's words to the English audience the best way and with quality that will be unlike any cheap translated text found online.
I have been rereading my two books by F. Scott Fitzgerald (The Great Gatsby, Tender is the Night), and I realize that I want my English to shine as much as Fitzgerald when I put this Japanese text to English. I want it to glimmer out the pages, to leave nothing wasted. He is my ideal of what beautiful modern English is (I put "modern" to distinguish from Shakespeare or Chaucer).
So, if it will be alright for you people, just keep watching, because I will continue to present Q-san's works to you, and I will ensure its completion no matter how long! So stay tuned, and keep reading!
The problem now is a date... It is rather difficult to decide due to OJT. For now, I can only give an approximation. Perhaps around the last week of June would be for the best. If not, the first week of July would suffice.
Again, I apologize, and still hope you will continue to grant me a chance to do this.
And again, if there are any trouble about the text, do not hesitate to comment so that I can improve on it.
Au revoir! Auf Wiedersehen! 行ってきます! До свидания! Arrivederci! Good bye!
See you then!

2024.05.14 18:12 Flametang451 The Primordial Paradox, Religious Diversity, and Free Will

In the modern age, I think one of the biggest questions anybody has had to deal with in a increasingly interconnected world from a religious perspective is the nature of how religious diversity came to be- not just internally, but externally.
The quran seems to at times explain religious diversity as a natural consequence and even ordainment upon humanity (5:48 and 10:99 come to mind here- if both are linked with each other than such would mean that some nations are meant to be as they are- even if they are what we would categorize as non monothiestic.
Quranically, such a nation could be seen potentially in Surah Yusuf. Egypt in this time is clearly implied to be pagan with Yusuf's conversation with his cellmates (12:36-42), and again in how the king's laws were different from Yusuf's (12:76). Yet the people in this verse seem to almost solely call on Allah only (when the egyptians speak of divinity, the word lilahi is used in places such as 12:31 and 12:51). If we assume the Wife of Al Aziz (Zuleikha as she is spoken of in exegesis, but also Rael) is speaking in 12:53, she does the same. In contrast, Egypt in the time of Musa amongst those who followed the Pharaoh mention waālihataka in the context of divnity- translated to multiple gods by most*).*
This could be a henotheistic situation like with the Quraish, but Prophet Yusuf aside from the prison does not do much preaching. There is a mention in Surah Ghafir (40:34) that Yusuf was rejected by the folk of Egypt, but this opens up more questions than answers (Egypt was not destroyed in Yusuf's time nor punished, nor does the quran call it's folk of that time disbelivers or mushrikeen....despite clearly being pagan. Neither does god state at any point that Yusuf was ordained to preach in Egypt. Yusuf likely was in Egypt during the Second Intermediate or Middle Kingdom Periods based on the ruler being referred to as a king if we attempt a historical contextualization, which were both dominated by pagan orthodoxy in the country.
Any criticisms on religion come from people that god narrates speaking, but not god themselves. It seems a small, but significant difference in comparison to how other nations in the quran are spoken of. 40:35 seems to continue on from this- but this verse may be unrelated to the matter (it also seems to be essentially be an allusion to cult like practices- the verse itself reads in what appears to be an orwellian matter in that folk should not question revelation at no point ever- it seems to follow in the maxim of such- "blessed are the minds who do not doubt, and cursed are those who do". Thus, it likely can and has been used to justify corrupt religious orthodoxies and institutions by silencing concerns of the layfolk, by arguing people do not have authority to question scripture or what it means. Essentially, it isn't blind following in all cases that the quran dislikes, but blind following of the right path is fine (and what "right" is can thus be made subjective to satisfy end goals). At the very least, from this verse solely. This would also likely be a favorite verse of those looking to justify spiritual abuse under the guise of well intentions.)
but at other times sems to argue that humans at some point recognized god for what they are, and that they chose to accept some kind of trust which seems to be in relation to living as humans, almost subliminally arguing that all people are somehow secretly aware of allah. Yet the quran also mentions that many folk can also be unaware or not know of god, that cities were not punished because they did know of a matter- that is the whole point of sending messengers. This in itself is an established point in jurispedence.
The verses that seem to indicate this are 7:172 and in 33:72. 33:72 seems to indicate man was very hasty in taking on said trust, to an almost shortsighted degree. However, 7:172 essentially opens up a serious question about personhood.
The claim that all folk somehow were brought forth in a primordial state to testify to god is a quran only claim- it is not as if we can go and ask somebody this happened. More importantly, considering that the quran directly shows evidence of god's interference with human consciousness by sealing hearts and ordaining paths or belief systems upon nations, we would not be able to gain a verifiable answer anyway. Since ideologies and understandings of the world are what influence actions (not the other way around, as a choice taken is always made in due part due to the convictions of a person), then it stands to reason that god sets both the cause and effect.
This would also justify fatalism (I've seen some try to argue for qadr allowing free will, but most arguments seem to be that there is a script but you can influence it a tad....which means we are mostly still bound by outside forces. The quran is even more confusing on this matter- at times it argues god is the only reason people believe or not, yet when the quraishi pagans use this very argument, they are accused of being decietful. The quran seems to want to uphold god's omnipotence and free will, and yet since the two will clash, seems to bungle both. The fact that the quran implies god created men to be upon the earth also seem to imply that humanity's acceptance of this trust and the expulsion of adam and hawwa seems to imply either events may not have been entirely free will oriented, but rather parts in a script that were unalterable (the fact that shaytan somehow managed to slink his way into heavean even after being banished seems to suggest that). Puppets on a stage, if you will, with long enough string that it looks like they have free will.
As for the issue of the primordial, what makes this so confusing is that it seems something from before birth (the opening of the book of deeds), is being taken into account in judgment. Generally, life is assumed to have begun at birth, not before.
The only way I could see this working is one of 3 methods- 1) mass mind wipes, 2) dharmic-style reincarnation, 3) ship of Theseus.
If we assume mass wind wipes were done prior to birth, then one should wonder why a person with no memories is being beholden to somebody who had said memories. Would the latter have done the same as the former? If we look at today, most wouldn't take up something so high stakes (existing as a human). Anti-natalism is a philosophical current in the modern day for a reason.
If we assume dharmic style reincarnation (the prototype souls were all regressed from being sapient to being infants), then essentially a lesser form of death has been experienced (the former cannot be seen as fully equivilent to the latter, and it cannot be possible to state either state would do the same actions in taking up the trust).
If we assume a ship of Theseus situation- god replaced each component of the old proto-souls with something new then but kept the same form- are those the same person as before? Is the delineation point form over substance? It doesn't seem like they are.
The only way that I could see this working is that the recognition of god is merely a recognition of the absolute in some form. How that happens in the living world is wildly dependent on various factors as enshrined by god or human actions. What may appear to be non belief in god may be in a sense, belief in some of his attributes. This is a mostly akbarian approach from what I can tell (though islam as a whole would be the most ideal path to take, it does not negate or subsume the others), but it seems to help avoid issues of mass damnation of humanity, and overall uphold god's mercy and salvation for other peoples.
Though one can argue since the quran mentions hell will be filled up, with all the nature of people being chosen to be guided or not, it could very well be the quran is arguing to a Calvinist style elect which would be seriously grim). Sometimes I wonder if in reading the quran pessimistically, is that perhaps how we should read it? It would lend itself to a more misotheistic understanding of god (as being evil or useless, but since the abrahamic god is all powerful, the former is the only possible approach in such a thought cycle- all actions would need to be reanalyzed as being conducive to some malevolent end.).
Of course, such a being would need to be rejected- if such a being would truly exist, and god was truly that- the only worship they deserve is to have their worship thrown into a fire and burned to never rise again. Essentially, allowing for the trust to be accepted by humanity was but the beginning of a series of malevolent machinations. To what end would be unknowable, but nothing good in general. It would be the inverse of the muslim thought process which argues even if we do not know something's occurence, there may be good in it. I'm not sure if this would be pessimism or simply being realistic or optimism vs cynicism sometimes between the two approaches.
Some would likely call such a view bizarre, but others would likely call it liberation from oppression, the only logical way to see faith, and an end to the evils of faith. I do wonder sometimes....in the modern day, the very concept of god by some is seen as having been the source of all, or perhaps most, evils. Granted, governments that espoused atheism were hardly better, but one could easily argue they made a cult out of their leaders, and thus see that as some kind of faith and condemn that.
If a prophet were to be sent down today, they wouldn't be dealing with people who would see miracles and scoff at them being of demonic origin, they would argue that and that even if they were from god, there's no guarantee god is good, citing history as their defense, or analogies to god as being an abuser, or that faith in anything at all in a religious context is a harmful thing. I wonder sometimes how a prophet of the past would react to that sentiment. It's not as if people are worshipping themselves, and even if they did try that argument of being beholden to one's desires- people would probably argue back that such an argument usually is used to justify abuse of people by depriving them of freedoms and safety, citing examples to do so. Or perhaps arguing in that god's mercy always comes with a price, or maybe by arguing heaven and hell both are eldritch hellscapes that lead to loss of self and existential horrors, or that faith in itself demands orwellian adherence and mindless obedience in one way or another- thus, corruption in religious institutions and the stifling of free thought isn't a bug, but a feature of faith. Granted, I'm sure all of these could be argued against in one way or another.

2024.05.14 18:12 TexASS42069 Writeup on Application Components

I neglected to include this in my cycle recap, but hopefully some future applicants find this helpful. Obviously this is not a one-size-fits-all. https://www.lsd.law/users/creep/SquidwardsHouse
Resume
This will be controversial, but it ideally should be one-page. Harvard and Yale have made explicit their preference for such. I’d say if you’ve got less than 10 years of work experience, you almost certainly can and should fit it on one page. Be concise with your verbiage. Don’t piss the reader off with small fonts (definitely no less than size 11) or crammed wording. You don’t need to patronize the reader by describing in intricate detail what some common-sense things are.
LORs
Again, I believe less is generally more, continuing with my theme. If you can effectively cover ground with two letters when you can submit up to three or four. Choose 2. The only school I submitted 3 letters to was Yale, and that was because I was advised they wanted two academic letters and a military letter to speak to my five years in the Navy. Every other school I submitted one academic and one professional (military) letter.
Yale 250
I wrote about a humbling experience where essentially the main takeaway was that I didn’t need to have an opinion/express an opinion on everything. I hit on the same anecdote in every single one of my interviews, and I think it was well-received.
Harvard Statement of Purpose
-I opted for a different approach contrary to what many recommended. I did not use my traditional Personal Statement for this topic. Instead, I went with a much more direct 1-page statement addressing why I no longer wanted to pursue the JAG Corps in the military (since I’m a reapplicant from a few years ago), and how now I want to clerk, work in big law for a few years to gain experience, and then be a federal prosecutor. There was a lot of good interview fodder from this statement that Dean KJ took an interest in.
PS/HLS Statement of Perspective
My Personal Statement was very reflective in nature on my past failures and moments of growth, and how offering and accepting help is crucial to such growth. I felt this fit the prompt of Harvard’s Statement of Perspective much better for me, as stated above. For my personal statements for other schools, the only modification was I had a paragraph inserted about why I wanted to continue in public service as a federal prosecutor.
Why UVA
I made crystal clear how UVA was one of my top choices, and I think they appreciated that. I did not want to run the risk of appearing like I was coasting on stats, which often leads to people getting waitlisted or denied at UVA and similar schools. I talked about how Charlottesville mirrored my state school undergrad, and how I loved that being an island of blue in a sea of red on the political lap brings with it a perspective you can’t find easily most other places. I also discussed my goals of wanting to practice in the south after law school, which added to the authenticity in my view.
Character and Fitness
Just own it. Don’t shift the blame. Be as concise about what happened as possible and take ownership of it. I got fired as an RA for hosting a party with other RA’s in my dorm room. It was about 5 sentences in length.
Georgetown Top 10
As a huge Survivor fan, I made a detailed top 10 winners list.
Interview Advice
It’s okay to be nervous. I fucked up the intro to my Harvard interview by saying something like “I guess it’s nervous to be normal” and we laughed about it. My Yale interview started 8 minutes late because we had audio issues connecting. I was panicking on the inside from embarrassment, but tried not to let that show to my interviewer (who I could see on video still). The interview went great and we talked for twenty minutes past my allotted time. My other feedback is to give good thought as to Why X school and why law school in general. In my Harvard interview, I said something along the lines of "A lot of people grow up dreaming of coming to this school, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't one of them. Even more than that, though, the size of Harvard's class brings with it a diversity of backgrounds and thought that you can't find as easily anywhere else. I remember reading about conservative students in the past enjoying now-Senator Elizabeth Warren's classes when she taught here. That coupled with Harvard having the highest student veteran population of any school make it a natural fit." As for the Georgetown interview, I think a good rule of thumb is to be respectful of the other applicants’ time and answers. Try not to talk more than anyone else in the group interview, and try to pay attention to what people say to show you’re listening. Finally, (and maybe I’m old fashioned) I think it’s generally polite and professional to send a quick thank-you email to your interviewethe admissions inbox. Don’t expect a response, but I do think it’s a thoughtful touch.

Foreigners have always wondered why we Americans have always had a sour attitude towards socialism and communism. In many times, we have been mocked and accused of not knowing what either system is, despite the fact we do know. Here are the reasons why we are so against those two systems:
  1. There is no free lunch. Non-Americans think they are getting education, healthcare, and other things for free, but fail to understand that none of it is free. Someone else is paying for it. In turn, that leads to higher taxes, which eventually hurts your country. Everything comes with a price. Just because you are not paying for it, that does not mean it is free. Even freedom is not free, because other people risked their lives and gave up their hopes and dreams for you to be free.
  2. Freedom is restricted, not enhanced. In communism, you cannot even have a different opinion about your government, which gets you killed or arrested. In North Korea, people are not even allowed to leave or they get shot. In America, I can leave when I want and criticize my government all I want. The best part? I won’t get arrested or executed. In Europe, Australia, and Canada, you are not allowed to own a gun, unless it’s for hunting. Any ownership of a gun to defend yourself and your family is enough for a jail sentence. The worst part is these socialist and communist governments have decided the average person is not allowed to protect himself, and many people in these countries have accepted that as progressive and smart. Your right to protect yourself is not debatable. It is common sense.
  3. The poverty and number of deaths are horrific. In the 20th century alone, millions upon millions of people died under communist rule. Dreams crushed. Lives ruined. People get worked up over what USA did in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, and Syria, but where is the moral outrage for what Stalin did to millions of his own people? When Mao murdered millions of his people in the 1940s? After all of that, I would think communism and socialism would no longer be a thing in most, of not all, of the world.
  4. There is no evidence that either system has worked or will ever work. After everything I mentioned, I see no conceivable way that socialism and communism cannot ever work. To say otherwise is naive. Yet, there are people who move over here to America with socialist and communist values and want to turn her into what they left. Now look at her. She is slowly becoming everything Americans have fought against for years.

2024.05.14 18:03 Fantastic-Tap66 Advice from decent sized construction business owners

I am 18yo male, just graduated high school. My dad owns a decent sized construction LLC as a general contractor. We both have intentions of me taking over the business later on. As of now I plan on doing an online CM degree through LSU maybe (I heard theirs is very good) and I plan on working during this (looking at sales as of now). My overall plan is to make the company much bigger and maybe even stopping the general contractor stuff. My dads business as of now consist of fairly old traditions and we have around 15 employees(contractors) who all can do basically different things, but I want it to grow, I feel we are limiting ourselves as of now. I would like to progress towards an area that is growing rapidly (north lake,Texas area) and get much more business. I would like them to post on job apps offering people positions so we can get a head start and not wait. So my question is, what can I do to prepare for my future role, and what should I do to learn most I can and be successful, I know I need to start making connections and a name for the company, I also feel like we need to start getting more modernized now. Any advice from business owners or people who know a lot about the industry, I know I’m in a good position and I have bigger goals then just making the company big, I want to do big big things like maybe multiple businesses. But this is where I need to start. Thank yall.
Ps: I have worked for my dads business every summer and breaks for like 4-5 years, the sales role I’m looking at is for a large commercial remodeling company

Market Trends:
Technological Advancements: Over the years, there has been a remarkable evolution in the field of hair restoration technologies. Innovations such as robotic hair transplantation systems, which offer precision and efficiency in graft extraction and implantation, have revolutionized surgical procedures. Stem cell therapy and PRP treatments have also gained prominence for their potential to stimulate hair growth and improve overall hair health.
Increasing Demand for Non-Invasive Procedures: As people seek less invasive alternatives to traditional surgical methods, non-invasive procedures like PRP therapy and LLLT have become increasingly popular. These treatments offer advantages such as minimal downtime, reduced discomfort, and lower risk of complications, making them appealing options for individuals looking to address hair loss without undergoing surgery.
Rising Popularity of Hair Transplants: Hair transplant procedures have seen a surge in demand worldwide. This growth can be attributed to advancements in transplant techniques, such as follicular unit extraction (FUE) and follicular unit transplantation (FUT), which result in more natural-looking outcomes. Moreover, the increasing societal acceptance of aesthetic procedures has encouraged more people to consider hair transplants as a viable solution for hair loss.
Expanding Target Demographics: While hair restoration was traditionally associated with older individuals, there's a notable shift as younger demographics, including millennials, become increasingly interested in preventative treatments and cosmetic enhancements. Factors such as heightened social media presence and a desire for aesthetic improvement drive this trend, with younger individuals seeking to maintain or enhance their hair density at an earlier age.
Growing Awareness and Acceptance: With greater awareness about the available treatment options and a reduced stigma surrounding hair loss, more individuals are seeking professional help for their hair restoration concerns. This shift in attitude reflects a broader societal acceptance of cosmetic interventions to address aesthetic issues, contributing to the overall growth of the market.
Market Opportunities:
The hair restoration market presents several compelling opportunities for growth and innovation. With technological advancements driving the development of more effective and minimally invasive procedures, there is a significant opportunity to meet the growing demand for non-surgical solutions. Additionally, expanding target demographics, including younger individuals seeking preventative treatments and cosmetic enhancements, open avenues for market expansion. The rising acceptance of hair restoration treatments, fueled by increased awareness and reduced stigma surrounding hair loss, further contributes to market growth potential. 2024.05.14 18:02 Odd_Blackberry_863 Chasing Dreams: Battling Mental Health to Become a Patent Attorney

I'm dealing with mild depression, which was diagnosed in 2021. Sometimes I'm okay, sometimes I'm not. My doctor advised me to talk to my parents or a friend about my condition, but sadly, I don't have anyone I can share with. I prefer hitting the books, solving math problems, or writing in my journal, even though it’s a struggle. There are times when I cry, but I have to fight because I only have myself to rely on.
I'm an engineer, but I don't have my license yet. I'm preparing for the board exam, and I really want to pass so I can finally see myself in law school. I want to become a patent attorney. I'm just an average student, but I'm very curious. Unlike the typical engineer, I love public speaking and I'm good at it. I’m also a bookworm, so I don't mind reading. In fact, I enjoy reading and solving problems more than socializing. I only mingle with people when necessary (di naman halata kasi ambivert ako); otherwise, I have my own world. My father’s side of the family often gets irritated with me because of this.
During my college days in engineering, my confidence dropped. The environment drained me, and I have past traumas that made me keep to myself. Engineering is hard, but my college days could have been happier without the toxic environment. At one point, I gave up my dream of becoming a patent attorney and law school. I thought I would just pursue a master’s degree or another engineering program. I wanted to work in Japan because they excel in engineering.
Last year, I realized I shouldn’t give up on my dream just because I was exhausted. My whole life, it seemed like I wasn’t allowed to dream. People, whether family, friends, or even the guy I used to love, always said I was too ambitious and not worth it. I spent my entire life crying in restrooms so no one would hear me. I don’t tell anyone that I plan to go to law school after passing the board exam and becoming an engineer. It’s easier for them to think that I’ll just take a master’s degree. I'm sick of being weak. Naniniwala kasi ako na maa-attract ko din yung mga tao na better for me if nasa best version na ako ng sarili ko.

2024.05.14 18:02 Fantastic-Tap66 Advice from decent sized construction owners of future owners

2024.05.14 18:01 epileptick Credit for wins in OWC

I'm sorry this is a lot of words. The simple version is: I wasn't getting credit for wins. I fixed it. Now I know the problem is a servebug issue. I want help from the players to get microsoft/EA to fix it.
The long story is this:
For the last year I haven't been credited for my wins more than approx 30% of the time. Originally i thought it was people glitching the system to leave early and rob me of the win. But soon i realized that it happened even fighting people i knew were honest. The only way I could get a win was to not skip end game cutscene, then in the score screen I had to wait about 2 mins before pressing A or it would say something like "the server could not be reached" or something like that and I got no win. But losses happened EVERY TIME. Weird eh?
Long story short i found some posts talking about making a new xbox account with a yahoo email. This worked. I do get credited for my wins now. There is clearly no one responsible for this other than Microsoft and EA. The players are just victims of server issues and bad porting to xboxone.
Before this started- I was one of the people being called a hacker - i was the one always getting wins - rarely losses. And I couldn't lose a fight if I tried. I had records of like 30-0 before I would lose a fight.
Well now I lose more than I win. And I'm no noob. I'm really good. I have been #1 on Canadian leaderboards and won belts more times than I can remember. I even proved my skill to a friend once by getting #1 on ps3 as well.
Fast forward to now. I see the issue. It still needs to be fixed. I shouldn't have had to buy all the XP packs and add-ons again just to play the game and get credited for wins online. We pay $20 monthly sub to play this game online. You can't play online without that sub. And they let the game get THIS messed up. It's criminal.
Anyway I just wanted to share my experience so people stop making nonstop posts saying "hackers" are responsible for this. It's annoying. Please stop. Make a yahoo account and try for yourself.
There is one very weird problem now.... I can't delete my character and start over. My record stays even if I make a new fighter. If this was the case for everyone I would have no problem with it. But clearly there are bugs making some people more fortunate than others.
My BEST GUESS at what's happening, is the old tuner sets are staying active for old accounts and new accounts have the newest. Or something like this. Because I'm not flash KOing people ever anymore. And before it was almost every figut in the first 3 rounds. I remember the early days of FNC they tried updating tuner sets to allow less flash KOs.
I used to be the one flashing everyone and now very often I get flashed by a bum in the first round. This is why I have so many losses. I'll usually be winning then get flashed.
How do we fix this? How do we make EA and Microsoft listen? A petition? I'm not a fan of making posts just to complain. I want everyone to put their heads together so we can fix this once and for all. It's illegal what they are doing. We bought this game. They have no right to do this. In Canada very soon there will be strict laws preventing developers from abandoning games like this. But I fear Microsoft knows this and that's why the Xbox store is going offline for FNC in a couple months. I hope it's the opposite and they are making it work better. But I fear we will get abandoned before the laws pass.
Help me people. What do we do?

FIFA 25: The New FIFA has Entered the Video Game, What Challenges will FC 25 Face?

https://preview.redd.it/d27qaycluc0d1.jpg?width=700&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a438d8605a40d2dfd8695a083223398c6ed4a2ec
With FIFA games being updated every year, market leader EA has a lot of work to do if it wants to remain the champion of football video games. FUTZone announced on X (Twitter) in March 2023 that FIFA will produce its own game and name it FIFA 25.
EA, as the leader, has a responsibility to strengthen their games if they want to remain the champion of football video games. And based on player feedback to provide something beyond the series. But with few details about FIFA 25 at the moment, players are speculating about what this new FIFA series will bring.
EA explored a story mode that perfectly fits the career for the first time in "FIFA 17", so FIFA 25 also needs to return to the career story mode. In Journey, players step into the studded boots of 17-year-old Alex Hunter and watch his football career progress from tryouts to international caps. During this time, we are treated to a heartwarming story where we meet some great characters, such as the boy's encouraging grandpa.
FIFA 25 will compete with EA FC 25, so the plot similar to the TV series continues into the next two games, but when EA turns its attention to the Volta mode in "FIFA 20", FIFA 25 may not Introduce this model. Just like the unique multiplayer game mode in classic games, players can no longer see this mode in FIFA 25, but perhaps "FIFA 25" can bring players another legendary story of "Football Prodigy".
FIFA 25 should bring an end to mixed-gender FUT teams. The gender mix in EA FC 24 Ultimate Team mode transcends the boundaries of realism, and most players have some understanding of male players, but playing with a team full of players, it may be difficult to be in a group of people again. Find the players players want and like the most. And EA may be able to optimize a separate female Ultimate Team mode and keep the genders separate. Whether FIFA 25 will do this is unknown.
Regarding the various bugs in FC 24 currently, please don’t let stupid bugs appear in FIFA 25 anymore. FC players say the most disappointing thing is spending $80 on a game full of bugs. What's even more frustrating is that FC 24 still hasn't been fixed months after its release, and most players who have played EA FC 24 have just got used to graphical glitches, disappearing scores, and the replacement of objective images with the default FUT icon. For a company that has mastered big games for a long time, there is no excuse for these oversights to still exist in the game, and even players think that EA is lazy. Whether it is FIFA or FC, solving any errors in a timely manner can make the player's user experience better.

2024.05.14 18:00 Less_Education_6809 Boundaries with elderly parents: balancing expectations and trying to make everyone happy

TL;DR I Need help understanding a healthy balance drawing boundaries with elderly parents (living in adjoined mother-in-law suite) and wife, with differing tolerance levels and peeves.
AITAH for addressing the below issues, or for NOT addressing them?
Background:
Parents are late 70s, recently built an attached studio apt into our house due to limited housing options on fixed income.
Wife was very supportive, a saint really. They crashed in our guest room on and off for over a year while it was built.
They have own restroom, kitchen etc, entrance and exit.
Situation:
I feel like the more than overstayed welcome during transition - using our restroom, being fairly overbearing, loud, you know … just old people.
Now, though, I feel like the snakes things they do (that should not be a big issue in my opinion) are really bothering my wife.
Namely: 1. you can hear their TV pretty loudly through the wall, which is a bit obnoxious but in my opinion … i don’t want to ask them to turn it down to a level where they can’t hear it just to not inconvenience us. It feels…wrong. Like, it’s their space. 2. My mom makes breakfast for the boys every morning, and waits outside all morning to catch us on the way to work/school and give it to them. Sounds sweet, and it is, but it’s a LOT on the morning. She is big manic energy, and it feels like a well-intentioned ambush. When we’re in a hurry in the morning, we don’t want to interact at that level all the time… but, it feels unreasonable to even try to address this. What do I say, “we don’t want to see you in the morning cuz we’re in a hurry, go inside” of course not… 🤷🏻‍♂️
I’ve addressed the bigger issues: don’t just let yourself in our house. Don’t use the common door into our living area unless emergency. Don’t come over to our house with sweets and bs food every day because it undermines how we feed our kids … etc.
Question:
Wife and I have had our guest disagreements ever in our relationship lately, around these issues.
I want to wait a while and let the dust settle before stressing more and addressing issues stated above. See how things shakes out, mainly because I feel the inconvenience we are feeling pales in comparison to the hurt feelings / ask I would have if my parents to address it.
Issue is, it’s weighing on my wife, and she feels (I think) like my inaction is placing their needs above ours, or that these are minor issues I shouldn’t have a problem bringing up to them.
What would you do? Am I the asshole?

2024.05.14 17:59 Less_Education_6809 Boundaries with elderly parents: balancing expectations and trying to make everyone happy

TL;DR I Need help understanding a healthy balance drawing boundaries with elderly parents (living in adjoined mother-in-law suite) and wife, with differing tolerance levels and peeves.
Now, though, I feel like the smaller things they do (that should not be a big issue in my opinion) are really bothering my wife.
Namely: 1. you can hear their TV pretty loudly through the wall, which is a bit obnoxious but in my opinion … i don’t want to ask them to turn it down to a level where they can’t hear it just to not inconvenience us. It feels…wrong. Like, it’s their space. 2. My mom makes breakfast for the kids every morning, and waits outside all morning to catch us on the way to work/school and give it to them.

2024.05.14 17:58 CaptainofClass Being paid for “stand-by” hours inside normal work hours.

Tennessee, full time hourly employee.
I can’t seem to find the actual legal terms or documentation for this type of situation. I work for a rather large company as an employee. We work Monday-Friday typically 8-4. Our job involves going to peoples homes on scheduled appointments to conduct work or services. Occasionally, we may not have a morning appointment and have nothing to do till the afternoon. However, we have to be available and ready to get in our vans and go to a customers home if a job appears. We might be sitting in our home for four hours waiting. I always make sure I am in constant communication with our coordinators and manager, so they know the situation. I have always been under the impression that due to the employment type I have, and being required to be on standby, I am paid for that time. However, now a new manager wants to fight with me on this so I was wanting to get information on the law around this type of situation, so I can have the knowledge I need to escalate this problem.

2024.05.14 17:57 Dodoman9000 She Wants to Break Up During Upcoming Group Vacation

Can't help but laugh my ass off at how ridiculously selfish and self-centered this is.
Context: I'm 31, been with my FIANCEwBPD (29) for 7 years. She moved to another town for law school back in September, we'd been living together up until then. I agreed to stay in our original city to watch our pets, and the plan was for me to move to her when I secured a job in the area.
Well since September it's been nothing but push-pull devaluation bullshit. Like, we had serious issues 1.5 months into long distance so I know the problem's not me. She just randomly called me one night after acting cold and distant for a long while. I asked her if she wanted to break up and she said: "I don't know."
I said "Fine, we're done." Then she immediately booked a red eye to come see me and apologize.
We worked through that. As you may know, that likely accomplished nothing in the long run and she just built resentment cus I 'punished her'. Flash forward another 7 months to now. Throw in some more devaluation cycles. I ghosted her for 2 weeks recently for the sake of my own mental health (which she took as a personal attack even though she's been ghosting me since the second she moved up there).
We have a group vacation coming up. 4-day trip. It's a very important trip actually, because I'm headlining my first theater as a stand-up comedian and tons of college friends and family are coming out to see me.
Now, I'm not trying to stress about this bullshit up until the day of the show, I'd rather be done now. I already feel detached--in a good way. I've reflected on the peace I'll have and on the potential of finding a partner in the future who actually IS empathetic instead of just telling everyone non-stop how empathetic they are. When somebody constantly brings up a very 'strong quality' of theirs, assume that they're just masking their complete lack of that very quality. This is the case like 90% of the time. This is why during my sister's college graduation, her friends confided in her that my fiance seemed fake as fuck. She was playing a character and they could see it. Tl;Dr: If someone constantly talks about being an empath, assume they're an absolutely toxic psychopath.
I've also realized that this entire time I thought I didn't want kids, I was actually just terrified of her mothering them. Because it's inevitable she will split on them and perpetuate this cycle for another generation.
Anyway we're texting last night, I'm trying to get some clarification on where we're at before this trip because I'd rather her just not go if we're done, that'd be weird AF. She says:
"I don't know, since our last conversation I said I didn't really want to be engaged anymore and later said I didn't want to make any major decisions at that time. I still feel the same. But I thought we would be able to talk about Honey separate to that." -- She wanted me to bring our dog on the trip so she could go with her, which I told her I'm not comfortable with.
I replied: "Wasn't able to stick my fork in that word salad, you'll have to clarify. Did you get your timelines mixed up? In our last conversation you never said "I don't want to be engaged anymore."
I continued: "I asked you, after stating my concerns, if you felt there's anything you felt you could do to reduce the BPD mistreatment towards me. Then I asked if you still wanted to be engaged. You answered: 'I think so? I don't want to make any major decisions right now."
She responds: "Did not get my timelines mixed up. I said I don't think so. I don't know. I don't want to make any major decisions."
Me: "Wow haha either I misheard or you didn't say what you thought you said. Either way, 3 weeks later you feel your state of mind remains 'Don't want to make any major decisions? That's interesting."
Her: "Ok?"
Me: "I was just trying to understand what you said? I don't want to put words in your mouth. When you say 'I still feel the same', what are you referring to exactly? Because you mentioned 2 or 3 different things
Her: "That I don't really feel like I want to be engaged but don't want to make any decisions. To be honest I'd rather talk to you in person about this. And you seem to be getting mad."
Me: I am not the least bit bothered but thank you for your concern : )
Me: "In person, like during the Phoenix trip?"
Her: "I mean, if so, after your show."
I have not responded to that. I'm thinking, "That's one of the most selfish things I've ever heard. You know people are going on this trip to have fun right? Like oh yeah, why don't you just get your little comedy show done so I can break up with you immediately after? Hope that doesn't affect your performance!" Lmfao.
Not to mention, she's perfectly happy keeping me in suspense for another three weeks, which would affect anybody's preparation. She's trying to take a weekend that's about my professional accomplishments, my friends, family, and make it about herself like she always fucking does. What an empath.
Thank fuck we didn't get married. She wanted to get married 6 months after meeting me. Like literally "Let's run down to the courthouse right now and get married." I'm of the thought this relationship ended two years ago when I put that rock on her finger. She split on me 4 months after and threw a fit because I didn't want to rush and sign a contract for a $50k wedding.

2024.05.14 17:57 NateScorpion105 True "Canon" Ending based off of the TV Show

This is what I think happened based off of the TV Show and what I think most people chose for the ending. Aswell as what I chose for one of my endings. Please don't attack me, this is my opinion. Also I do like the theory that the Legion assimilated into the Brotherhood.
Other: President Kimball is Alive General Oliver is Alive Legate Lanius is Alive Mr House is disconnected but Alive
Intro And so the Courier, who had cheated death in the cemetery outside Goodsprings, cheated death once again, and the Mojave Wasteland was forever changed.
Hoover Dam Victory The Courier, with the aid of Yes Man, drove both the Legion and the NCR from Hoover Dam, securing New Vegas' independence from both factions. With Mr. House out of the picture, the remaining Securitrons on The Strip were hard-pressed to keep order. Anarchy ruled the streets. When the fires died, New Vegas remained, assuming its position as an independent power in the Mojave.
The Courier Preferring neither the best of the NCR nor the worst of the Legion, the Courier was the man responsible for a truly independent New Vegas. He had removed Mr. House from power over the Strip and broken the influence of the NCR and Caesar's Legion in the Mojave Wasteland.
Black Mountain Tabitha and Rhonda went east, through Caesar's land. Occasionally tales of their exploits found their way back west, though few believed them. Eventually the stories concerning the duo were collected and published, and proved to be quite popular with children.
Raul Alfonso Tejada Invigorated by his travels with the Courier, Raul once more took up his guns in memory of his lost Rafaela. Soon after, the Mojave was filled with tales of the ghost-vaquero who hunts down those who prey on the weak.
Boomers Though the Wasteland became anarchic after Hoover Dam, the Boomers' display of power dissuaded fortune seekers from attempting to penetrate Nellis.
The Brotherhood The Brotherhood used the battle of Hoover Dam as an opportunity to retake HELIOS One, and came to control the area between it and Hidden Valley. With no organized opposition, their patrols began monitoring trade along Interstate 15 and 95, seizing any items of technology they deemed inappropriate.
Veronica Santangelo Veronica put her moral sensibilities aside and supported the Brotherhood's new campaign of aggression as best she could. Yet deep down, she understood that it meant their end would surely be soon to follow
The Fiends Their leaders destroyed by the Courier, the Fiends scattered throughout the wasteland. Without the organization of Motor-Runner, Cook-Cook, Violet, and Driver Nephi, they were easy prey.
Followers of the Apocalypse After the Courier ensured New Vegas remain free, the Followers found that Independent New Vegas was even more unstable and violent than before. Old Mormon Fort became excessively burdened by the influx of patients, struggling to provide even the most basic of services
Arcade Gannon Arcade was tending to the locals of Freeside when he learned that Caesar's Legion had been defeated and NCR was being pushed out of New Vegas. Though he found that independence for New Vegas was not all he hoped it would be, Arcade did his best to help the locals govern themselves
Goodsprings With New Vegas' independence formally declared, Goodsprings thrived. More travelers stopped by Goodsprings on their way to and from the Strip, and the locals grew prosperous from the traffic.
Rose of Sharon Cassidy I The slaughter of the Van Graffs and the Crimson Caravan caused no end of trouble for NCR back West. Already struggling, NCR's supply lines suffered further as the two caravans withdrew support until the "massacre in the East" was resolved
Rose of Sharon Cassidy II Cass lived to see the Courier bring down three armies and by her count, that was three more than she'd expected. She'd kept quiet about that, though.
The Great Khans During the Battle of Hoover Dam, the Great Khans quickly evacuated Red Rock Canyon and headed north and east into the plains of Wyoming. There, they reconnected with the Followers of the Apocalypse and rebuilt their strength. Bolstered by ancient knowledge of governance, economics, and transportation, they carved a mighty empire out of the ruins of the Northwest
Jacobstown Thanks to the Courier and Lily, a cure for the nightkin's schizophrenia was found shortly after Doctor Henry's experiment concluded. Nightkin and other super mutants in the wasteland flocked to Jacobstown, and the town became known as a haven where a mutant could find peace
Lily Marie Bowen Encouraged by the Courier to take her medication regularly, Lily's mind eventually attained a semblance of clarity. Her memories dulled by the pills, she cast aside the recording of her grandchildren, no longer remembering its significance.
The Kings Following the Second Battle of Hoover Dam, Freeside came to be known as one of the more stable areas in the region. Ironically, NCR refugees found Freeside safer than most of the rest of New Vegas, where resentment still lingers.
Rex With the transplant of Lupa's brain, Rex gained all of the donor's experiences traveling with the Legion. These melded well with his own memories of the Legion, and his new mind quickly adjusted to the myriad memories
NCR - The Misfits Shaped up by the Courier's advice, The Misfits distinguished themselves during the Legion's attack on Camp Golf. Mags was finally promoted to Sergeant, and the rest of The Misfits received an official commendation. They continued to serve with distinction for many years.
Novac Though Novac was a low-priority target for the Legion, many of Novac's citizens died in its defense. In the weeks that followed, several Bright Followers returned to Novac to help restore its defenses, allowing it to remain independent of the NCR.
Craig Boone Though NCR was withdrawing from the region, Boone remained in New Vegas, finding work as a security guard and caravan scout along the highways. While he might've preferred rejoining his old unit, Boone couldn't bring himself to abandon the city where he'd met his wife.
Powder Gangers - NCRCF After Hoover Dam, the leaderless Powder Gangers at the Correctional Facility vanished into the wastes, leaving the prison empty. The Correctional Facility became another abandoned ruin in the wasteland, its carcass occasionally picked over by enterprising prospectors.
Powder Gangers - Vault 19 After the majority of the Vault 19 Powder Gangers joined the Great Khans, the weaker members scattered throughout the Mojave Wasteland. Though a few managed to erase their pasts, most never survived the journey.
Primm After Hoover Dam, Sheriff Meyers runs Primm with his own style of frontier justice. He deals with most folks fairly, but now and then someone winds up dead with little to no evidence against them
ED-E With its logs cleared and its systems upgraded ED-E remained a vigilant and constant companion to the Courier. The Brotherhood used the information recovered from ED-E to create a small army of Duraframe eyebots.
NCR Rangers Due to the Courier's intervention, Chief Hanlon abandoned his plan to sabotage the defense of Hoover Dam. The rangers assisted the troopers admirably during the Legion's ill-fated attack. Though the Courier snatched victory from NCR, only General Oliver was blamed for the loss of Hoover Dam. Hanlon, exhausted after a lifetime of service to the NCR, stepped down from his position in the rangers and retired to his ranch in Redding.
The Remenats After their bold arrival at Hoover Dam, the Remnants disappeared as quickly as they came. Legends of their power spread throughout the southwest, a reminder of why people once feared the sight of vertibirds in the sky
Conclusion And so the Courier's road came to an end... for now. In the new world of the Mojave Wasteland, fighting continued, blood was spilled, and many lived and died - just as they had in the Old World. Because war... war never changes.
As for what happened after, The Courier tried to help Vegas as much as he could, but with no Army Vegas was anarchy. Then the tunnelers arrived. Courier Six asked for NCR help but they failed. The Courier ashamed with themself left Vegas, never to return.
