2024.05.14 15:05 Makemelegal Help with new network mesh setup

Hoping someone can help advise on how best to setup my new Mesh Network - i've bought a set of TP-Link Deco P9s (50cm+ thick stone walls in an old house so need PowerLine backhaul for where i can't run wires to) and need to get them up and running properly.
My plan was to use the ISP supplied Technicolor DGA0122 in bridge mode (following this) as the modem and then use the P9 for routing (cable from port 1 of DGA to primary P9 unit). However, when entering the PPPoE settings (VLan, username and password) in the Deco app it wont connect. I can leave the DGA0122 operating as supplied and turn off wifi and then the Deco units work but from what i've read this can lead to NAT/DHCP issues?
So before i half arse it and set myself up for future issues, can anyone advise on the correct method, please?

2024.05.14 15:05 INDY_SE How much can photosynthesis raise pH?

So my family has been managing my tanks while I’ve been far away for school and is doing a great job. Ammonia/nitrates get tested semi regularly, while other parameters are deemed less important and thus usually not tested in respect of their time.
I was curious where pH has been at so my bro just did a test. When I left pH was 7.8…. Now apparently 8.2- but tds only 231 o__O;
We use distilled water mixed with salty shrimp for the water because of the liquid rock that is our local water supply. This would target a kH/gH of about 3/6 assuming used as instructed and a neutral pH. The tank uses natural materials - pagoda stone, pond soil/aquasoil, black sand… so obviously something isn’t adding up 😅. I may request kH/gH tested sometime but given the tds is about right, I can’t imagine it’s far off the mark.
This leaves me with two variables… Plants… And the fact the pH kit might uh be 2 years old.
I’ll be sending a new pH kit soon just to sanity check. But I’m just curious if photosynthesizing plants could raise the pH that far. Not worried about the fish as everyone is thriving! Just please weigh in on my aquarium science

2024.05.14 14:45 LChris24 Fire, The Hound & the Lord of Light (Spoilers Extended)

Background
The septons preach about the seven hells. What do they know? Only a man who's been burned knows what hell is truly like. -AGOT, Sansa II
GRRM has been hinting around about Sandor Clegane and his relationship with fire since the beginning (its the first thing mentioned about him in AGOT, Eddard I). In this post I thought I would explore that a bit and see what it could mean for TWoW.
Note: I don't think gods exist in ASOIAF, they are just sources of magic. So when I say R'hllor throughout the post I pretty much just mean "fire magic".
The Initial Burning
While the Hound is walking Sansa home from the Hand's Tourney, he gives Sansa the story of how he was burned:
"Most of them, they think it was some battle. A siege, a burning tower, an enemy with a torch. One fool asked if it was dragonsbreath." His laugh was softer this time, but just as bitter. "I'll tell you what it was, girl," he said, a voice from the night, a shadow leaning so close now that she could smell the sour stench of wine on his breath. "I was younger than you, six, maybe seven. A woodcarver set up shop in the village under my father's keep, and to buy favor he sent us gifts. The old man made marvelous toys. I don't remember what I got, but it was Gregor's gift I wanted. A wooden knight, all painted up, every joint pegged separate and fixed with strings, so you could make him fight. Gregor is five years older than me, the toy was nothing to him, he was already a squire, near six foot tall and muscled like an ox. So I took his knight, but there was no joy to it, I tell you. I was scared all the while, and true enough, he found me. There was a brazier in the room. Gregor never said a word, just picked me up under his arm and shoved the side of my face down in the burning coals and held me there while I screamed and screamed. You saw how strong he is. Even then, it took three grown men to drag him off me. The septons preach about the seven hells. What do they know? Only a man who's been burned knows what hell is truly like. -AGOT, Sansa II
Bran's Vision
Several chapters before that, we see the Hound's "terrible face" in Bran's vision of the shadows during his coma dream (note that the scope of the series was much smaller here):
He looked south, and saw the great blue-green rush of the Trident. He saw his father pleading with the king, his face etched with grief. He saw Sansa crying herself to sleep at night, and he saw Arya watching in silence and holding her secrets hard in her heart. There were shadows all around them. One shadow was dark as ash, with the terrible face of a hound. Another was armored like the sun, golden and beautiful. Over them both loomed a giant in armor made of stone, but when he opened his visor, there was nothing inside but darkness and thick black blood. -AGOT, Bran III
worth noting that R'hllor is referred to as the "god of flame and shadow" as well:
On one side is R'hllor, the Lord of Light, the Heart of Fire, the God of Flame and Shadow. Against him stands the Great Other whose name may not be spoken, the Lord of Darkness, the Soul of Ice, the God of Night and Terror. Ours is not a choice between Baratheon and Lannister, between Greyjoy and Stark. It is death we choose, or life. Darkness, or light." -ASOS, Davos III
The Blackwater
In his next encounter with fire, the Hound flees the Battle on the Blackwater:
The night of the battle, Sandor Clegane had come to her chambers to take her from the city, but Sansa had refused. Sometimes she lay awake at night, wondering if she'd been wise. She had his stained white cloak hidden in a cedar chest beneath her summer silks. She could not say why she'd kept it. The Hound had turned craven, she heard it said; at the height of the battle, he got so drunk the Imp had to take his men. But Sansa understood. She knew the secret of his burned face. It was only the fire he feared. That night, the wildfire had set the river itself ablaze, and filled the very air with green flame. Even in the castle, Sansa had been afraid. Outside . . . she could scarcely imagine it. -ASOS, Sansa I
Trial by Combat
When Sandor fights Beric we see a flaming sword seemingly begin to defeat the Hound:
The flaming sword leapt up to meet the cold one, long streamers of fire trailing in its wake like the ribbons the Hound had spoken of. Steel rang on steel. No sooner was his first slash blocked than Clegane made another, but this time Lord Beric's shield got in the way, and wood chips flew from the force of the blow. Hard and fast the cuts came, from low and high, from right and left, and each one Dondarrion blocked. The flames swirled about his sword and left red and yellow ghosts to mark its passage. Each move Lord Beric made fanned them and made them burn the brighter, until it seemed as though the lightning lord stood within a cage of fire. "Is it wildfire?" Arya asked Gendry.
"No. This is different. This is . . ." -ASOS, Arya VI
but at the very end we see Sandor somehow win this "holy thing":
Smooth as summer silk, Lord Beric slid close to make an end of the man before him. The Hound gave a rasping scream, raised his sword in both hands and brought it crashing down with all his strength. Lord Beric blocked the cut easily . . .
"Noooooo," Arya shrieked.. . .
but the burning sword snapped in two, and the Hound's cold steel plowed into Lord Beric's flesh where his shoulder joined his neck and clove him clean down to the breastbone. The blood came rushing out in a hot black gush.
Sandor Clegane jerked backward, still burning. He ripped the remnants of his shield off and flung them away with a curse, then rolled in the dirt to smother the fire running along his arm. -ASOS, Arya VI
so he is set free by the Brotherhood, minus his gold (Fun Fact: The Brotherhood ends up with a good amount of gold from the Hand's Tourney).
What's Next?
When the Hound begins to follow them, some members want him dead but Thoros states that there must be some purpose left for Sandor.
Lord Beric shook his head. "Clegane won his life beneath the hollow hill. I will not rob him of it."
"My lord is wise," Thoros told the others. "Brothers, a trial by battle is a holy thing. You heard me ask R'hllor to take a hand, and you saw his fiery finger snap Lord Beric's sword, just as he was about to make an end of it. The Lord of Light is not yet done with Joffrey's Hound, it would seem." -ASOS, Arya VII
and I seem to think that similar to the show, the next step in Sandor's plotline (after Brother Ray (show) and Elder Brother (book series) is another encounter with the Brotherhood without Banners.
"Where is she?"
"A day's ride. I can take you to her, ser … but you will need to come alone. Elsewise, the Hound will kill her." -ADWD, Jaime I
Sandor in Hell
Doesn't really deserve its own section, but I thought this matched up really well:
The septons preach about the seven hells. What do they know? Only a man who's been burned knows what hell is truly like. -AGOT, Sansa II
and:
Lem grabbed her wrist and twisted, wrenching the dagger away. She kicked at him, but he would not give it back. "You go to hell, Hound," she screamed at Sandor Clegane in helpless empty-handed rage. "You just go to hell!"
"He has," said a voice scarce stronger than a whisper. -ASOS, Arya VI
Random Thoughts
Note: Sorry this post is pretty choppy. The new reddit posting interface is pretty terrible to deal with.
TLDR: It is no secret that GRRM has been building up Sandor Clegane (formerly the Hound) and fire from the beginning. With him surviving his fight with a flaming sword (not wildfire) there is some potential "purpose" left for his life (Arya wouldn't end it for him either).

2024.05.14 14:17 MojitoKitty Please read and do not judge. I beg.

I was raised a catholic but they do not believe in reincarnation. I have long ways to go in terms of religion but I absolutely believe in God and Jesus. However, I am very much so intimidated by the thought of God and death. I have always dealt with this feeling of derealization, like I am unreal in this life, but at the same time, a familiarity with the world. I feel a deep connection with the past, particularly with the 1800s-1900s. Despite this, I am unsure of how many lives my soul may have lived. I have not had the privilege of experiencing past life regression therapy. I am not sure whether to trust it, though I have felt drawn to it since I have learned of its existence. I have been afraid of falling subject to scams, so I’ve avoided many therapists and fortune tellers. I once heard a woman a couple years ago in a restaurant talking about her past life she learned about through a therapy session but couldn’t make too many words out. Still, I was shocked and felt envious of her experience, wishing I could learn about my past life/lives. This was much after I’d first learned about past life regression therapy.
I’ve been fascinated with the whole concept of reincarnation since a young child and was told by my mother and some others I was wise beyond my years. I picked up English fairly quickly. However, when I turned 17 or 18, I saw a picture in black and white of Stralsund, Germany. I recognized the fact that it was a picture in Germany though I was not educated about Germany in the past, nor hardly a single thing on world war 2. I somehow knew this picture was from Germany and it brought a very strange feeling to me deep down. From then on, I researched pictures and towns in Germany as well as the language. I found the language easier to learn than Spanish. I feel deeply connected to Germany. I’ve had various dreams of villages, and a certain church that included a cemetery, though I am not sure which country this is from. I looked in the mirror and suddenly thought of the name “Laura” and since then have felt that my past life name from a certain time was Laura. I feel a deep connection to church bells and the feeling of soft grass beneath my feet as well. I often have a restless sensation and a feeling that I am not truly home. It saddens me deeply. I’ve had many visions that I cannot explain, and was wondering if anyone could provide me with some insight. Anything.
Though I have adapted to many things within this time, I feel that my soul belongs elsewhere. I feel as though I am living behind a mask to become accepted and that it is not the real me. I have a set in stone belief that i want to be buried under the ground instead of cremated. I am very argumentative about it. I am fond of old fashioned poetry, fascinated by gothic gravestones, and gothic architecture. I long to be one with the earth and have written poems about it. I’ve cried when thinking about reincarnation and things from the 1800s-1900s. I don’t feel new to this earth but at the time feel clueless about so many things in this century. I feel so much anxiety that never seems to leave my side. It is the most loyal companion I’ve had since I was born. I was unfortunately born with anxiety that has held me back immensely from discovering so many things about myself, including this aspect. I have considered myself a complex individual with an old soul for many years, and am unsure of what to do about it??
I wonder constantly if someone has ever felt a similar way. I feel that I’ll never find a soul that understands what I’m going though, and I am sick of feeling alone in this cold world.

2024.05.14 14:16 BeginningSome5930 A Desert Nomad Culture. Feedback is appreciated!

This is for a steampunk-inspired fantasy world where people can manipulate a magical metal called quicksteel at will.
Introduction
While “No Man’s Land” is considered a desert frontier by most, it has been the home of a native population for centuries: The neksut nomads. The neksut travel from oasis to oasis, riding horses and herding sheep and other animals. Though some Neksut have fearsome reputations as warriors, the neksut way of life is under threat from foreign settlers, most of whom see the as unsophisticated.
Recreation
Though outsiders will confidently claim the neksut have no arts to speak of (or even no culture at all), in truth the desert riders have rich musical and storytelling traditions. The neksut are great lovers of song, specializing in throaty chants. Singing is often heard while the tribe is on horseback or around the camp at night, and is typically collaborative, with a lead singer being echoed by several others. The most famous songs are epic historical and mythical tales, such as The Stone Men, Ballad of the Besieger, and Death of Pulcros. Musical instruments include string and woodwind devices, carved from wood and richly decorated.
However perhaps the greatest neksut art is quicksmithing itself. Manipulating quicksteel is vital to the nomads’ way of life, allowing them to effortlessly convert carts into temporary dwellings and back again. But with excess metal, neksut quicksmiths (called shapers in their language) often create temporary sculptures that will be deconstructed when the tribe moves on. Such sculptures are very abstract, often embodying the mood or state of the tribe at the time of construction. To the neksut, the impermanence of this art represents the transient nature of their way of life and of life itself.
Food
The neksut diet is heavily dictated by their nomadic lifestyle, and is fittingly dominated by the products of domesticated animals, principally horses and sheep. Milk is the most important element, and is drank as well as made into cheese, yogurt, or a dry powder. These dairy products are paired with meat from either domestic sheep or from hunted jackalopes or roastritches. Contrary to popular belief, the neksut do not eat their horses, save in rare cases when an animal dies or is too old to keep up with the tribe. Such animals are far too valuable as mounts and sources of milk to be consumed, and in fact an idiom meaning “eating one’s horse” is a neksut expression for one who has not thought things through.
Vegetables and spices (save for salt) are relatively scarce in much of the central desert and thus are scarce in the neksut diet as well. However the nomads make great use of what ingredients they have in a wide variety of dairy and meat meals. Seasoned jackalope jerky with cheese, shredded mutton over yogurt, and roastritch stew are typical. These meals are supplemented with redleaf, roastritch eggs, and whatever foreign ingredients can be traded for. While their cuisine is typically somewhat plain on account of their transient nature, the neksut can put on impressive feasts for special occasions, such as weddings or celebrations. In these cases the traditional meal is the so-called “yogurt table,” in which each participant is given a bowl of yogurt to pair with dozens of small dishes which are passed amongst the tribe.
Gender and Marriage
The neksut are relatively egalitarian in terms of gender. Two reasons for this may be due to their heavy reliance on horses and quicksmithing for their way of life; Mares are actually far superior mounts to stallions (due to their smaller size and milk), and the necessity for quicksmithing to set up camps and carts means that female quicksmiths cannot be disregarded, as all hands are needed. Thus neksut women can be warriors, chieftains, and shamans, with Salaris the Sandstorm and Mist-Eyes being prominent examples. However outside of these important roles, their still is a gendered division of labor in most tribes. Neksut often marry outside the tribe, with young men and women being sent to other tribes as dictated by shamans.
Government
Neksut governance is divided between chieftains and shamans. Chieftains lead tribes from one oasis to another, ultimately ending their journey at a religious site. Shamans oversee religious sites and help select the next route taken by the passing tribes, coordinating movements between different tribes so that resources are given time to replenish. The balance of power between these two roles has varied over time, though currently shamans seemingly hold the dominant role. Shamans serve an important logistical purpose in organizing the travels of tribes and arranging marriages, but they also act as culture repositories, with the shared language, history, and customs of the neksut likely owing to the shamans’ influence. Thus the Neksut are considered one culture and not a dozen.
Religion
Though their mythology purports to explain the origins of humanity, the first mentions of the neksut in the historical record dates to the aftermath of the Great Dying. Some scholars have suggested that the neksut might share common ancestry with some of the people of Tolmika, noting common elements between neksut religion and the Faith of the Heeders.
Neksut religion is centered around the earth and the sky. According to their mythology, the desert was originally a paradise that was the birthplace of the first humans, the Stone Men, who were the children of the earth and the sky. These children crafted a vast civilization from the abundant resources, living like gods for centuries. But over time they forgot their place, abusing the land and ignoring the sky. Eventually, the parents punished their offspring; The earth sent forth earthquakes and eruptions, while the sky whipped up duststorms and withheld the rain. The paradise transformed into the great desert, and most of the children died or fled, leaving their civilization to crumble. But one child, “Neksut”, remained and resolved to repent by living off the land even in these harsh conditions, slaying his fellow stone men. The neksut trace their origins to this figure. They see their own lifestyle as a continuation of that repentance, and view other civilizations as a recreation of their ancestor’s mistakes.

2024.05.14 14:13 Yurii_S_Kh The Prayer Rule of St. Ambrose of Optina To Be Read in Times of Temptation

The Prayer Rule of St. Ambrose of Optina To Be Read in Times of Temptation
The Prayer Rule of St. Ambrose of Optina To Be Read in Times of Temptation (Sretensky Monastery, 2006). 32 pgs.
St. Ambrose, elder of Optina offered to those who came to him with various sorrows and trials a special, brief prayer rule that is possible for any Christian to read. The elder knew from his own experience the effectiveness of these prayers, how they strengthen one's enfeebled spirit, and how they scatter the enemy's attacks if read with faith and hope in God's almighty help. This prayer rule, comprised of the Psalms of David, we offer here together with extracts from the letters of St. Ambrose.
FROM THE LETTERS OF ST. AMBROSE OF OPTINA
Hope in God's mercy and help, and believe that the Lord is powerful to deliver you from all attacks both human and demonic. It is written in the Psalms: The Lord scattereth the plans of the heathens, He setteth aside the devices of the peoples... But the counsel of the Lord abideth unto eternity (Ps. 32:10–11).
I am writing down some Psalms for you that St. David prayed when he was being persecuted by his enemies: numbers 5, 53, 58, and 142. Chose the appropriate words from these Psalms for yourself, and read them often, turning to God with faith and humility. When you are being warred against by despondency, or some sorrow beyond your control, read Psalm 101.
Psalm 3. Of David, when he fled from the face of Abessalom his son, in the wilderness.
O Lord, why are they multiplied that afflict me? Many rise up against me. Many say unto my soul: There is no salvation for him in his God. But Thou, O Lord, art my helper, my glory, and the lifter up of my head. I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and He heard me out of His holy mountain. I laid me down and slept; I awoke, for the Lord will help me. I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people that set themselves against me round about. Arise, O Lord, save me, O my God, for Thou hast smitten all who without cause are mine enemies; the teeth of sinners hast Thou broken. Salvation is of the Lord, and Thy blessing is upon Thy people.
Psalm 53. For the end: among the hymns of instruction by David, when the Ziphites came and said to Saul: Lo, is not David hidden with us?
O God, in Thy name save me, and in Thy strength do Thou judge me. O God, hearken unto my prayer, give ear unto the words of my mouth. For strangers are risen up against me, and mighty men have sought after my soul and have not set God before themselves. For behold, God helpeth me, and the Lord is the protector of my soul. He will bring evils upon mine enemies. Utterly destroy them by Thy truth. Willingly shall I sacrifice unto Thee; I will confess Thy name, O Lord, for it is good. For out of every affliction hast Thou delivered me, and mine eye hath looked down upon mine enemies.
Palm 58. For the end: destroy not. David's. For a pillar inscription, when Saul sent and watched his house to slay him.
Rescue me from mine enemies, O God, and from them that rise up against me redeem me. Deliver me from them that work iniquity, and from men of blood do Thou save me. For lo, they have hunted after my soul, the mighty have set upon me. Neither is it mine iniquity, O Lord, nor my sin; without iniquity I ran, and directed my steps; arise to meet me, and behold. And Thou, O Lord God of hosts, the God of Israel, be attentive to visit all the heathen; be not merciful to any that work iniquity. They shall return at evening, and shall hunger like dogs, and shall go round about the city. Behold, they shall utter sounds with their mouth, and a sword is in their lips: For who, say they, hath heard? And Thou, O Lord, shalt laugh them to scorn; Thou shalt bring to nought all the heathen. O my Strength, I will keep watch for Thee, for Thou, O God, art my helper. As for my God, His mercy shall go before me; my God shall make it manifest unto me among mine enemies. Slay them not, lest at any time they forget Thy law; scatter them by Thy power, and bring them down, O Lord my defender. The sin of their mouth is the speech of their lips; yea, let them be taken captive in their pride. And from their curse and falsehood shall their final destruction be made known in the wrath of their utter destruction, and they shall be no more. And they shall know that God is sovereign of Jacob and of the ends of the earth. They shall return at evening, and shall hunger like dogs, and shall go round about the city. They shall be scattered abroad that they may eat; if they be not satisfied, they shall murmur. But as for me, I will sing of Thy power; and in the morning I will rejoice in Thy mercy. For Thou art become my helper and my refuge in the day of my tribulation. Thou art my helper, unto Thee will I chant; for Thou, O God, art my helper; O my God, Thou art my mercy.
Psalm 142. David's. When his son Abessalom pursued him.
O Lord, hear my prayer, give ear unto my supplication in Thy truth; hearken unto me in Thy righteousness. And enter not into judgement with Thy servant, for in Thy sight shall no man living be justified. For the enemy hath persecuted my soul; he hath humbled my life down to the earth. He hath sat me in darkness as those that have been long dead, and my spirit within me is become despondent; within me my heart is troubled. I remembered days of old, I meditated on all Thy works, I pondered on the creations of Thy hands. I stretched forth my hands unto Thee; my soul thirsteth after Thee like a waterless land. Quickly hear me, O Lord; my spirit hath fainted away. Turn not Thy face away from me, lest I be like unto them that go down into the pit. Cause me to hear Thy mercy in the morning; for in Thee have I put my hope. Cause me to know, O Lord, the way wherein I should walk; for unto Thee have I lifted up my soul. Rescue me from mine enemies, O Lord; unto Thee have I fled for refuge. Teach me to do Thy will, for Thou art my God. Thy good Spirit shall lead me in the land of uprightness; for Thy name's sake, O Lord, shalt Thou quicken me. In Thy righteousness shalt Thou bring my soul out of affliction, and in Thy mercy shalt Thou utterly destroy mine enemies. And Thou shalt cut off all them that afflict my soul, for I am Thy servant.
Psalm 101. A prayer of the poor man. When he was despondent, and poured out his supplication before the Lord.
O Lord, hear my prayer, and let my cry come unto Thee. Turn not Thy face away from me; in the day when I am afflicted, incline Thine ear unto me. In the day when I call upon Thee, quickly hearken unto me. For my days are vanished like smoke, and my bones consumed like wood for the burning. I am smitten like grass, and withered is my heart, for I forgot to eat my bread. By reason of the voice of my groaning, my bone hath cleaved unto my flesh. I am become like a pelican of the wilderness, I am like an owl in a ruined house. I have watched, and am like a sparrow that sitteth alone upon the house-top. The whole day long mine enemies reproached me, and they that praised me made an oath against me. For before the face of Thy wrath and Thine anger I ate ashes like bread, and my drink I mingled with weeping; for after uplifting me, Thou hast dashed me down. My days like a shadow have declined, and I like grass am withered. But Thou, O Lord, for ever abidest, and Thy remembrance is unto generation and generation. Thou shalt rise up and have pity upon Sion, for it is time to have compassion on her, yea, the time is come. For Thy servants have taken pleasure in her stones, and they shall feel pity for her dust. And the nations shall fear Thy name, O Lord, and all the kings of the earth Thy glory. For the Lord shall build up Sion, and He shall be seen in His glory. He hath regarded the prayer of the humble, and hath not despised their supplication. Let this be written for another generation, and the people that is being created shall praise the Lord. For He hath looked out from His holy height, the Lord from heaven hath looked upon the earth, To hear the groaning of them that be in fetters, to loose the sons of the slain, To declare in Sion the name of the Lord, and His praise in Jerusalem, When the peoples are gathered together, and the kings to serve the Lord. He answered Him in the way of his strength: The fewness of my days declare unto me. Take me not away at the half of my days; in generations and generations are Thy years. In the beginning, O Lord, Thou didst lay the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the works of Thy hands. They shall perish, but Thou abidest; and all like a garment shall grow old, And as a vesture shalt Thou fold them, and they shall be changed; but Thou art the same, and Thy years shall not fail. The sons of Thy servants shall have their dwelling, and their seed for ever shall be guided aright.

2024.05.14 14:08 Lukas_113 Depression is NO joke

So, a little backstory about me: I am a 25-year-old disabled veteran, male (I hate associating myself as a veteran; that's besides the point). I became disabled out of the line of duty, so I have zero disability from the VA; however, I do receive SSDI and 10% from the VA. My educational background: I graduated high school. Now, with that out in the air; depression; I have been, for the better part of the last 5 years, pushing all and any sad thoughts about my being disabled down and ignoring them. In the last year, not only was I in a relationship with someone 4 years younger than me, I was basically forced into signing a lease with my middle brother by my parents because they refuse to live with him due to his prior issues with my mother and getting kicked out. I just started college, which I didn't even know how to study for (I passed with C's in high school and barely made it through AIT because I never applied myself) yet. So, after 6 months, I dropped out, not because I wanted to, but because I squandered my opportunity and lost the other half of my income (income being from the GI Bill). I also was slowly crumbling from years of neglecting my emotional state, which led to my inevitable breakup. Now, for all of this to be put out there, this is all just to explain and justify that I want to post the following to Facebook to let everyone know I'm good and I don't blame anyone.
"It’s been a while. How have you been?
I’ve been alright, kept my head high as long as I could. Not one moment was fake; every smile, every laugh, each tear that was shed was as real as the last. My stone wall was nothing but a pebble foundation, yet when I showed that wall, I showed the Great Wall of China. It’s no one's fault; it never was, never will be. I alone am holding this grain of sand from falling off its needle, and I alone will rebuild that once great wall I had held so high."
If you made it this far thank you :)

Why a new Quincy steakhouse in old Masonic Temple has some neighbors worried
QUINCY − One of the busiest stretches of Hancock Street in the city center sits back-to-back with a leafy neighborhood of single-family homes. The contrast is leading to conflict, as a celebrated Quincy restaurateur moves forwards with his plans to bring a three-floor Italian steakhouse to the old Masonic Temple, which was severely damaged by fire in 2014.
Jimmy Liang, founder of JP Fuji Group, went before the licensing board May 7 seeking an all-alcoholic beverages restaurant license for the 11,340-square-foot Masons Steakhouse at 1170 Hancock St. He said the restaurant will have capacity for 240 diners and will also host functions such as small wedding parties. The board voted unanimously to grant the license.
The old Masonic Temple is owned by FoxRock, and the restaurant will be part of the real estate developer's downtown Center and Stone project, which also includes 267 apartments across two six-story buildings, one of which will host a Citizens Bank on the ground floor.
Quincy restaurateur Jimmy Liang plans to open Masons Steak House in the former Masonic Temple on Hancock Street in Quincy Square. He says he has always admired the architecture of the building. Thursday, March 14, 2024. Neighbors worry about parking at the new Quincy steakhouse in the Masonic Temple
Multiple homeowners on Russell Park and Whitney Street complained that their Residential A neighborhood already suffers from too many people parking along the curbs and even in front of their driveways, blocking access and egress to and from their homes. Residential A districts are restricted to single-family homes.
Without a parking plan, many say Russell Park residents will suffer from its proximity to the new steakhouse.
"(Customers will) look to park as close as they can to the facility, and that means on Russell Park," said Robert Cerasoli, a former Massachusetts state representative for the district from 1975 to 1991 who lives on Russell Park. "We're going to be descended upon by these people."
City Clerk Nicole Crispo said that Liang is working with Ward 1 Councilor Dave McCarthy and Mayor Tom Koch's office to develop a parking plan.
The plans could involve Liang using municipal parking at the Quincy Center T station across the street where a temporary Citizens Bank trailer now stands, according to Crispo. The historical society could also share available parking space, Crispo said.
Police Chief Mark Kennedy said that in his 26 years as a Quincy officer, he never had a problem with any of Liang's restaurants (Liang currently owns four in Quincy alone). Kennedy noted that the license is contingent on a parking plan, and that the board could require Liang to come back for another hearing if any of the neighbors' fears materialize.
Nightlife in Quincy Center another worry of neighbors
Some also objected to Liang's plan to keep the restaurant open until 1 a.m. Liang said he hopes to bring some of the nightlife back to Quincy Center that has been lacking since the COVID outbreak in 2020.
"I think 1 a.m. is really late," said Randy Hoes, who lives on Russell Park. "I'm not interested in a lot of carousing around and boozing and what not. I would appreciate 11 p.m. at the latest."
"Where are all these people going to park?" Joann Cerasoli, also of Russell Park, asked. "How late are they going to stay?"
'We are not NIMBY people'
Robert Cerasoli said he doesn't oppose the restaurant but there needs to be a plan for parking.
"We are not NIMBY people," Cerasoli said. "We believe in progress of the downtown. ... undefined
Kevin Norton, of Whitney Street, said his property abuts the proposed restaurant and complained that it would make an already bad parking situation worse.
"It used to be nice and quiet, no cars in the street," Norton said. "Now, it's a nightmare."
Norton said incessant noise from construction of the Center and Stone development has been a nuisance. "My taxes go up every year," he said. "My quality of life goes down every year."
As of now, the restaurant has about 30 parking spaces behind the building for staff and customers of the 240-seat restaurant, Liang said.
Chamber of commerce defends Liang
President of Quincy's chamber of commerce, former state treasurer and 2010 gubernatorial candidate Tim Cahill, vouched for Liang, who has run restaurants in Quincy for 25 years.
"They're not outsiders," Cahill said of Liang's team. "They will be part of the community."
Cahill told neighbors that the 1 a.m. closing does not imply a nightclub atmosphere. "The prices are such that it's not going be a college crowd – young kids getting wildly drunk and having problems," he said.
Liang has said Masons Steak House will have some affordable options.
"I'm going to keep it medium," he said of the prices. "(A steak) could be $40 or as expensive as $200."

Mona radiant lost its depth? Opinions needed please!
I bought a radiant 10x7 gh moissy from Mona last year and for some reason, it seems like it’s losing its depth and is becoming very flat. I’ve done so much research and no one seems to say anything besides making sure it’s clean.
It doesn’t have any oil slicks but it used to have this depth to it that I’m not seeing anymore. Could the stone be a dud? I’m just not sure what to think!
I ound an old photo I took of it after I got it (first photo) then just now took a new one in the exact same spot (second photo). I’d love everyone’s feedback.. do I need to get a new stone? Thanks so much!!

2024.05.14 13:46 Roxanne-Annabelle642 What could be causing both my cat and dog to get urine crystals/bladder stones?

Hey guys, I have already been to the vet and we are stumped. Coming to the Internet to see if anyone has seen this before or can help me.
I have a 5 year old female Dachshund Chihuahua mix dog (20 lbs) and a 12 year old female tortoiseshell Domestic Shorthair cat (10 lbs).
Before this endeavor, we fed our dog a mixture of Zignature Kangaroo Dry Kibble and Weruva wet food (various flavors). Now she is on the Prescription Purina UR food. I feed my cat Fromm Salmon a la Veg kibble and Weruva Asian Fusion wet food. I portioned both according to their weights and the vet’s recommendations. I made sure all foods had a statement from the AAFCO.
Now onto the issue: About a month ago, our dog started acting weird on walks: peeing excessively, crying in pain, etc. We took her to the vet and they found both struvite and calcium oxalate stones in her bladder, and big ones at that. Poor girl had to have surgery and they told us it was probably genetic and it was a lifelong diet shift. Okay, other than the fact that we don’t have the money to afford this stupid prescription diet, fine. We’ll do anything for our baby and make sacrifices in our paycheck for her. It’s better than paying for another surgery in a few months, right?
Well, a few weeks after her surgery my cat started meowing and crying excessively. I recently switched her litter to the Silica Crystal kind (Brand name is Dr Elseys) and noticed her pee was bright pink or red. I immediately took her to the vet and now she has crystals in her urine! Luckily we’re in the early stages, so no surgery hopefully and they’re giving us antibiotics and trying to avoid having to change her diet.
My vet says it’s just bad luck. I said there’s no way it’s a coincidence that they both had the same problem at the same time. We brainstormed potential issues and the only thing my pets share is water and the brand of wet food.
We’ve been feeding them Weruva for over a year now, so I feel like if the food was an issue it would have started a long time ago. As for the water, we are on the city water and the same supply as the vet. The vet says there’s no reason to assume the water has excessive minerals in it. (Regardless, I’m getting a water filter and giving them filtered water from now on just for the heck of it)
My cat and dog are 2 completely different ages and species. They eat completely different foods. I have a very hard time believing they both magically developed the same problem at the same time for no reason.
Has anyone seen this before and do you know what could be in my house, environmentally that could cause this? Has anyone seen any issues in the efficacy of Weruva brand wet foods?
Thanks in advance lovely people of Reddit 😊

Writer's Block? Befriend the Beast: Pro Tips to Turn Blockades into Bestsellers (With Prompts So Crazy They Might Work)

Ah, writer's block. That ever-present nemesis, the blank page's evil twin, the creativity-sucking gremlin that haunts every writer's dreams (or lack thereof). But what if I told you writer's block isn't your enemy, but a misunderstood ally? A twisted muse, a forced sabbatical from the mundane, a chance to shake things up and unleash your inner writing gremlin in the most productive way possible?
Befriending the Block:
Professional authors know the struggle is real. Here's what they say about turning blockades into stepping stones:
Now, let's get insane with prompts that will have your muse doing a double take:
1. Genre Blender: Combine two wildly different genres. Write a historical romance with zombies, a cyberpunk detective novel set in ancient Rome, or a space opera with a grumpy cat detective as the protagonist.
2. Alternate Reality: Imagine your story taking place in a world obsessed with something ridiculous. Think "everyone communicates only through emojis" or "unicorns are the primary mode of transportation."
3. Flash Forward, Way Forward: Skip to the very end of your story. Write the final scene, then work your way back, filling in the gaps with the most outrageous plot twists imaginable.
4. Dream Weaver: Describe a bizarre dream in excruciating detail. Then, analyze it like a cryptic message from your subconscious, using it as the foundation for your story.
5. Character Chaos: Write a scene where your characters are forced to switch bodies (think Freaky Friday, but with your characters). How does it change their perspectives? What hilarious misunderstandings ensue?
6. Found Object Frenzy: Grab the weirdest thing you can find (rusty spork, deflated balloon animal, taxidermied squirrel) and write a story centered around it. Bonus points for incorporating its bizarre history.
7. Unsolved Mystery: Choose a real-life unsolved mystery (Jack the Ripper, the Bermuda Triangle) and write a fictional account from the perspective of the perpetrator or a hidden witness.
8. Headline Hijinks: Rip a random headline from the news and turn it into the most outlandish story you can imagine. Aliens behind the stock market crash? Sentient self-driving cars waging war on pigeons? Go wild!
9. Animal Antics: Write your story entirely from the perspective of an animal character. A grumpy cat narrates a love triangle, a wise old owl dispenses philosophical advice, a hyperactive squirrel chronicles a daring heist.
10. Time Travel Tango: Send your characters on a time travel adventure with a twist. They can't change the past, but their actions have unforeseen consequences in the present. Think butterfly effect on steroids.
Remember, these prompts are just springboards. Let your imagination run wild, embrace the absurd, and don't be afraid to delve into the depths of your weirdness. You never know what hidden gem you might unearth from the rubble of writer's block. So, unleash your inner gremlin, write with abandon, and remember: sometimes, the best stories are born from the most unexpected places. Now get writing, you beautiful block-busting wordsmiths!

2024.05.14 13:06 ginger0114 Laptop upgrades - What to get?

Apologies if this is a tad long, I'm just trying to figure out what to do. If anything. So I'll add a TL;DR at the bottom.
Although I'm comfortable and confident in sourcing and changing all these components, I'm still a noob at deciding what and when to get stuff. So any assistance is appreciated.
I posted the other day about reapplying thermal paste due to slightly high temps and it got me thinking about other potential upgrades I can get/do, so hoping, if at all possible, you guys might have some ideas, recommendations or other tips and tricks (i.e. BIOS/other software) to help me get the most out of it. I also a few questions!
I have;
MSI Raider GE66 12UGS - 2yrs old
Current (average temp range)
Light work - GPU ~40-45 Celsius/ CPU (fluctuates heavily ) ~40-60 Celsius
Under load - GPU ~75-85 Celsius/ CPU ~85-90 Celsius
So, as stated, I'm looking at trying to do a few upgrades to my laptop. I have been thinking about it for a while but still unsure on how to go about it. Firstly, would it be worth it? I'm aware that this isn't exactly bottom of the barrel, however I believe it could be better.
My 1st point of call would be to add an extra TB or 2 of storage, as although I have an external hard drive, i've had to occasionally keep removing games in order to fit others on.
Q1 - Like RAM, would i have to get an SSD that is the same speed, or is it not necessary and can add whatever I like?
Second point will be to upgrade the RAM, As mentioned, currently at 16gb, thinking of going up to 32gb.
Q2 - Is this necessary? Will I gain much (any) more performance by doing so or will it be negligible?
Third point of call, would be to re-apply thermal paste and putty. Yes i have just done paste, however I have since been made aware of a better quality paste, plus my putty was a little dry anyway so makes sense to kill 2 birds with one stone. Trying to keep temps as low as possible.
Q3 - Any recommendations for putty?
  1. Battery. Im plugged in 95% of the time currently, so could probably take a miss on this. but am open to changing as the battery is not too expensive.
Q4 - At what stage is it worth swapping out the battery? What wear %?
Fifth Point would be to upgrade the fans, because recently I've started to get what I believe to be coil whine. I have dusted off the fans and yet it is still occuring so for the sake you a few £, it gives me piece of mind...And stops setting off my tinnitus...
Right, I think that's all that possible, but if not the please let me know! Once again, I appreciate if you read this far, and any help would be grand.
TL;DR - Looking at upgrading laptop - current components above. Is it worth it? If so, any recommendations for both hardware and software changes?
I am very well aware that most of these may be completely unnecessary, and if so please do say so. This is just the thinking stage at the moment, so open to anything and everything!

2024.05.14 13:01 FelicitySmoak_ On This Day in Michael Jackson HIStory - May 14th

On This Day in Michael Jackson HIStory - May 14th
1975 - Michael had a private meeting with Berry Gordy to discuss the Jackson Five's future & after being denied creative freedom once again, the brothers started shopping for a new record deal. The Jackson Five had begun to ask to produce, write and record their own material in the previous year but all their requests for creative control had been denied.
1985 - Michael met Ronald & Nancy Reagan at White House for the launch of a campaign against driving under the influence of alcohol. In the spring of 1984, Michael's team received a call from the Secretary of Transportation, Elizabeth Dole, asking for Michael to give "BEAT IT" as background music for a television commercial and a 35 second radio spot on the dangers of driving a car under the influence of alcohol.
Even though the initiative was initially rejected by Michael, once he meditated a bit, he explained to his representative, John Branca
"You know what? If I can get some kind of prize from the White House then I will give them the song. How about?".
Intrigued, Branca asked: "Like what?"
Jackson listed: "I want to know the White House. I want to be on a stage with the president and receive an award from him. I want an event with children. And I also want to meet Nancy. All that. Why not? Can you get it? "
Branca was given the task of obtaining a positive response in the shortest time possible, which was not entirely difficult due to the fascination of the Reagans with show business. And so, the meeting was scheduled for the morning of 5/14/84
For such an important occasion, President Reagan dressed in a navy blue suit, a gray and navy blue striped tie & a white shirt. Nancy,on the other hand, chose a white suit, Adolfo brand, adorned with buttons and gold stripes. Nothing too spectacular to overshadow Michael's attire: an electric blue sequined jacket, adorned with sequined laces, a band of golden sequins, and epaulettes with golden sequins. He also wore his famous white sequined glove.

Two thousand people in total, including officials, admirers and security met in the central garden to see Michael.
Once everyone was up on stage, the Republican president pointed out that:
"Michael Jackson is proof of what a person can accomplish through a lifestyle free of alcohol or drug abuse. People young and old can respect that. And if Americans follow his example, then we can face up to the problem of drinking and driving, and we can, in Michael's words, beat it."
- a brief speech of just 5 and a half minutes. Then he handed a plaque to Michael, a gesture that he thanked before the microphone with an even more brief intervention, saying a mere 13 words:
"I'm very, very honored. Thank you very much, Mr. President and Mrs. Reagan."

During his tour of the halls of the presidential residence, he showed his fascination with a portrait of Andrew Jackson, dressed in a military suit very similar to the blue sequins he wore that day.
Until Michael's visit, only Elvis Presley, received this distinction, in 1970, when President Richard Nixon opened the doors of the Oval Office. Michael would return to the White House twice more during the terms of George W. Bush, Sr & Bill Clinton

1985 - Michael Jackson received a royalty check from Epic Records for $53 Million for sales from his Thriller album.

1996- Michael visits Chateau de Pierrefonds in Northern France, rumors were he wanted to purchase a French chateau.
The Château de Pierrefonds, classified as a historic monument and managed by the Center des monuments nationaux, was not for sale. Michael was aware of this so his visit was simply a pleasure visit.
https://preview.redd.it/j8gz337bk80d1.jpg?width=281&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5163fff4c29fb985acf401c2933c7dde4af8a672

The guides at the Château de Pierrefonds keep the memory of this arrival, completely unexpected, on 5/14/96. They speak with pleasure of this moment when the King of Pop arrived, surrounded by his bodyguards, to discover this castle worthy of fairy tales.
According to one of the guides, he arrived in a limousine which he parked in front of the village pharmacy. Michael, in fact, came in a station wagon type car which parked as close as possible to the entrance to the castle.
Wearing a red jacket and his mask, Michael arrived late in the morning when there were not too many people. However, it was school field trip time and a group of children were present. One of the guides explains that he then hid in a corner, near the stairs where the visit to the castle begins, so as not to be seen and disturbed
Michael paused for a long time in front of the model of the castle, located at the end of the guard room. Made in 1878 for the Universal Exhibition, this stone model built at 1/50 scale remains impressive (height: 145cm, width: 250 cm, length: 350 cm). Michael's bodyguards reportedly took a lot of photos and it is said that Michael asked for the plans of the model.
What is certain is that Michael had a model of the castle made for his Neverland ranch. It measured 269cm x 335cm x365 cm. A little larger than the model present at the castle. Michael's model sat in the middle of his living room, with, for a time, a framed photo of the castle on the wall.

The model was one of the objects that Julien's Auctions wanted to sell at auction in 2009, before Michael prevented this sale.

Although shy and discreet, Michael did not hesitate to pose for photos with the employees, who were quickly aware of his presence
Michael also leaves a strong memory of his visit with employees through his visit to the site's souvenir shop. He spent a large sum on history books, an amount which, according to the guide, “is not seen every day here” .
2004 - The Defense team, headed up by Thomas Mesereau, have decided to agree with the DA's Office of Santa Barbara to uphold the gag order in the case against Michael. Mesereau wrote that he and his client support the gag order and withdrew any objections to it made by Jackson's prior counsel.
In court documents filed , Attorney Theodore Boutrous, who represents the news organizations, criticized Santa Barbara County DA Thomas Sneddon's condemnation of the intense media coverage.
"Eliminating the gag order will ensure that more accurate information will be disseminated, and will reduce the amount of rumors, speculation and gossip about which the District Attorney complains," Boutrous wrote.
The news organizations have been annoyed by Sneddon's clampdown on information about the case. They have asked the California Supreme Court to overturn the gag order on the grounds that it violates the freedom of speech guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution.
Thomas Sneddon and Gerald Franklin, filed a motion earlier in the week, to the California Supreme Court to uphold the gag order in this case. He argued that the media was hoping to profit by pandering to a "gossip-hungry readership." He proceeded to write in his letter, "Despite the perhaps inevitable leaks, the public knows little more about the facts of this case than that Michael Jackson has been indicted on serious charges and that a jury will be asked to consider the evidence that may be presented to determine his guilt or innocence based on that evidence. And that's the way it should be."
Mr. Sneddon's letter was a response to the media's attorneys that wanted the gag order lifted which was imposed by the sitting judge in the case, Superior Court Judge Rodney Melville. The gag order prohibits participants involved in the case to discuss any particulars about the case to the media.
Sneddon argued in his letter that the news organizations have no standing to challenge the gag order because it applies only to case participants, not the media. He also said that such an order is required in a case that has drawn sensational worldwide attention.
"What is reported as fact becomes the nucleus of intense speculation, conjecture and discussion among commentators, particularly in the tabloid media and the audience they appeal to," Sneddon wrote. "Gossip -- and the 'news' tidbits that are gossip's grist -- translate into income."
2009 - In the last Family gathering Michael, Prince, Paris & Blanket attend Katherine & Joe's 60th wedding anniversary at the Indian Restaurant, Chakra in Beverly Hills with the whole family including all the grandchildren. Randy is the only one not in attendance. This is when most of Jackson siblings saw Michael for the first time since the 2005 Trial. This is also the last time Michael will see most of his family, including Janet & LaToya

2024.05.14 12:46 DaylightStorm Make Shaman Great Again!

Posted in the EU forums but it can be a bit of a ghost town these days
Having seen the love some other classes (cough Druids) have received over the past few years I feel like Shamans have been massively neglected when it comes to updates to spells, animations and models.
I love the Shaman class thematically and I’m hoping to main it going into TWW but I have a few issues, suggestions and ideas in the hope we may get some attention as we approach the release of the expansion. I’m no pro, but I have played all 3 specs in various levels of content from PvP to M+ & Raids.
These are aimed at the class in general but some ideas will also filter into each spec.
Ascendance, Elementals & Primal Elementalist - This ability has been in the game since Cata with a model that is now over 10 years old, and frankly doesn’t even feel like it really fits the class thematically. Rather than just ask for a new model I think Ascendance should be replaced by a ‘summon elemental’ ability for all 3 specs. For example:
These should all be essentially mandatory (high up on the tree, as per Elemental) and then ‘Primal Elementalist’ can become a new capstone to chase on the shaman class tree.
Primal Elementalist - Capstone replacing stone skin/tranquil air totems.
There are many new elemental models in the game now, particularly in Dragonflight so there are lots of updates to choose from. Heck, give us barber shop customisations like you have done for Warlocks and Druids so we can choose our Elemental models and Ghost Wolf (more on that below!).
Deeply Rooted Elements - This can remain as it is, as a capstone for all 3 specs granting a chance to summon your elemental for 6 sec.
*As Elemental will effectively be ‘losing’ a CD, I’d propose a buff to Stormkeeper or perhaps some kind of ‘Raging Storm Totem’ which creates a storm in a large area (Starfall) filling the fantasy of a stormcaller like the Druid spell ‘Hurricane’ of old.
If Ascendance is to stay as it is, at least update the model! Perhaps similar to what we see with Dathea in Vault.
DEFENSIVES - I understand this is a sensitive subject with the power creep of personal defensives in the game today but Shamans have historically been one of the squishiest classes. ‘Burrow’ was added as a PvP talent which is awesome but would be OP in PvE scenarios and doesn’t quite feel right from a fantasy PoV for me.
A few ideas -
Stoneskin Totem - Not the current iteration, but an old version that gives the shaman a small absorb shield. From a WotLK glyph iirc.
Earthen Harmony - Talent moved to class tree
Empower Shields - Similar to the PvP talent this would empower your active shield(s) for a short period of time on a short CD, 1min - 1.2min.
Thematically feels great and would help prevent one shots in PvE and being an auto kill target by melee in PvP.
RAID BUFF - Yes, the original bloodlust raid buff class is now one of the only classes to not have a unique raid buff! Ele, Enhance and even Resto are often overlooked in group content when there’s druids, mages, priests, DH etc available.
Ancestral Might - A small 60 min raid wide Crit/Mastery buff, like fortitude, motw etc.
OR
Skyfury Totem - A weaker version of the PvP talent to increase crit damage for a short period of time.
Finally a few quick fire suggestions as this is getting quite long:
Elemental -
Enhance -
Resto -
Moar customisation/glyphs! Glyphs are the perfect way to add flavour and some personalisation, I don’t understand why they aren’t utilised more.
TL:DR In an expansion based entirely around the elements and primalists we received absolutely nothing cosmetically compared to that of druids and warlocks! Our major CD is now 12 years old!
Please show Shamans some love, thank you!

2024.05.14 12:46 Worldly-Marsupial435 Broken window dilemma

Hi Dads,
I've recently been away on holiday visiting friends with my son (8 years old) and my partner. My son was playing with another child (3) with some small stones in the courtyard. There were no other children present.
Later in the evening one of the neighbours (she uses the same courtyard as a parking area) noticed that one of her car windows was smashed. She couldn't find any incriminating objects in the car (ball, stone etc).
I asked all the adults present that afternoon to ask if they'd heard or seen anything, but nobody had.
The fingers pointed towards my son; even I'm suspicious that he broke the window, as I thought his behaviour afterwards was a little strange. Though if he did break the window, I'm certain that it would have been an accident.
My partner thinks that he is maybe acting strange as he is on the defensive as he is the prime suspect.
We've spoken to him and told him that he won't get into trouble if he broke the window, but he denies that he did it. If we could confirm that it is him, we could sort out the insurance to help my friend's neighbour pay for her window.
I'm torn, I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt and the presumption of innocence, at the same time I suspect they he screwed up and broke the window. I want to do what is right by my son and the neighbour. If I accuse him of breaking the window and he didn't do it, I doubt this will have a positive effect upon my son. If I offer to pay for the neighbor's window without my son admitting to breaking the window, the neighbour and my friends will assume that my son broke the window.
I don't know what to do. Any suggestions?

2024.05.14 12:28 XaiverVanderwell Does anyone else not invite their nparents to anything?

Anyone else just not invite their parents to anything?
I never invite my own parents to anything unless it’s mandatory, for example, tomorrow at school I’m having an honor roll assembly with the older kids, I hadn’t told my dad about it mainly because I never wanted him to come. I’d be okay if my mom tagged along, both not really at the same time.
I just never want to deal with anything they have to throw and criticize as soon as we get there, I once got scolded for this after not telling them about a writers competition at school that I attended myself and told my dad he wouldn’t have to come.
My mom thinks I’m avoiding them and has made sure to know of any events at school, in fact, the event I’m attending tomorrow my Dad is tagging along, at first I was excited to go because I wouldn’t have to wear the same uncomfortable school uniform, and I’d get to wear a nice dress.
Now that my Dad is coming along, I’m not so excited anymore, because then that means I’ll be subjected to relentless criticism and insults as soon as we get to the school, like any other place we’ve been to together.
I have to go home and deal with their verbal torture and nonstop resentment towards me, it’s hard to maintain an act and be in a good mood at school after my mom just yelled at me and called me a useless child that morning.
Yet besides all that I still have managed to make friends and know others well, be pretty sociable and get reasonable grades, top of my class also, How could I have possibly achieved all this?
By separating a barrier between myself at home and at school. And I think I’ve done a pretty great job at not letting my home rendezvous affect my school experiences.
But when the same people who that barrier has been made for start to step out of bounds and trespass, that’s when it becomes a problem I don’t like to deal with.
Luckily it’s a closer ride to my sweet 18th, not 16 because then I’d still be treated as a kid, I’m surprised at how the emotional abuse hasn’t bitten me as much, aside from a few insecurities and minor people pleasing with doubts, that included never standing up for myself.
But I’ve learned and grown out of their perils, just like I’ve told myself since 6 years old, sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me.

I mean your installation of Kubernetes on a single host is crap and using helm charts that utterly break in an atomic chain reaction that way doesnt make it trustworthy. I am on the way to migrate nextcloud away again from TrueNAS to a docker host and just use TrueNAS as storage.
I dont care about sensible data down there, at the time of posting, this system isnt running anymore. Sorry if I annoy somebody.

For the first time in 100 years, an Easter prayer service was served in the 17th-century Resurrection Cathedral in Ostashkov on May 9. The service was performed by Archpriest Dimitri Markovsky, dean of the Ostashkovsky church district. According to the press service of the Tver diocese, the end of the 17th century is marked by the active construction of stone temples in Ostashkov, the very first of which was the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ with a bell tower - the construction of the church was completed in 1689. The Resurrection Cathedral was the largest and most majestic church building in the Tver province, built in the style of the Russian pattern. In the following years, the Resurrection Cathedral was expanded several times, the final reconstruction followed in the middle of the 19th century, as a result of which the Old Russian style of the church was replaced by a new, more classical one. During the Soviet years, the temple was closed, and the paintings on the walls were plastered. There was a warehouse in the temple. Now the temple is gradually being restored and everything necessary for divine services is being prepared so that it is possible to celebrate the liturgy: a throne, an altar are being made, and necessary utensils are being purchased.
