2024.05.14 17:32 Kind-Lifeguard8203 AITAH to threatened my landlord want to sue them if they keep listening in?

I (31f) moved to a house of husband (41m) and wife (42f) with two kids (6f and 13f). I have so many things because basically all my life is here in my room (moving out is hard). Since the beginning, the wife looked very jealous of me. And it is clear that she talked behind my back. It is because I often saw her friends coming to the house resenting me for no reason (and I never saw them ever before in my life). She also once yelled in front of my room and I woke up shock. I thought moving out again would be too much (I am also a person with disability). I tried to befriend her. I helped her flip the family's clothes and often buy her dumplings. I even helped the kids when they cried looking for their parents (sometimes they're away for one or two hours). So yes they get friendlier, when her friends came they now show love to me. She gives me food, bring me to a nearby waterpark with her kids..
But then she got too friendly and ALWAYS came up in the kitchen every time I cook and criticize my cooking skills. She came from South Asia that eats curry everyday and I don't. I cook very simple and it's just my culture and every single day she said things like "euw of course you don't feel like eating, your food is terrible!!"
That doesn't stop because her 6 to kids start to steal my ice cream, sneak into my room over and over and over.. and accuse my of stealing so many things around the house (which clearly I never do). I also notice the neighbout next to me resent me again for no reason while I also never saw her ever in my life as I just moved in. It's like the whole family watching me top to bottom almost throwing punch. And again, I never see them ever, how could they hate me so much? I even never talk to them!! I saw them doing it every time I park my car. And it's extremely uncomfortable. Once I ask the wife and she said "oh they're only jealous by your pretty dresses", oh the dad and the brothers too?
I moved to this house because I caught PTSD and need a peaceful place. I thought of being around family would be the answer so I won't feel so lonely. But then I felt extremely overwhelmed and was super depressed every night I cry very hard. Both the husband and the wife even eavesdropping every single conversation that I have. Including to psychologist, to a GP, to my SO, even when I do any sexual activity. She even often teased me with what she heard from those conversations. I start to feel extraordinarily uncomfortable.
So last couple of days ago I wrote a formal complaint to the husband with a strong covert indication that I will report them to the formal governing body if they keep doing whatever that they want I will report them. I also include points of how they have breached our national law. I also told them I don't want to talk to them at all and please give me an hour for lunch and an hour for dinner to cook every day without her wife in the kitchen. The husband feel so bad and they since haven't talk to me at all. I feel bad because some times they are kind to me (giving me food, invite me to their festival, invite me to waterpark). Do you guys think I'm overreacting? I kept thinking if they sincerely kind people, why would she still tell bad things to our neighbour about me.. after all of my kindness to her?
PS: I am in between jobs ATM. I can't afford to move because if I get a new job, it's likely I will need to move rightaway. And there's no sign yet when will I get the job. It's been months and I'm frustrated.

2024.05.14 16:48 MathsGuy1 The Rise of the Soulmancer pt6: Graduation

The Rise of the Soulmancer pt6: Graduation
/uw context: part5
/rw
Months had slipped away as Deamor delved deeper and deeper into the intricacies of soulmancy. While still nowhere near the proficiency required to start to meddle with his Spirit to completely solve his affinity problems, he still made a significant progress in understanding how Souls and Soul magic worked. Moreover, it seemed his book treated not only about soulmancy, but also contained plenty useful tips about magic in general.
This newfound insight into inner workings of magic allowed him to excel in many of his classes. While he still couldn't channel as much power as them, his ability to manipulate and use mana greatly improved. He got rid of many flaws and inefficiencies in the way he cast spells. This process would normally be done through years of honing a particular spell, but combining his Mana Vision with his newly acquired Soul Vision allowed him to quickly spot many of his shortcomings. Although he couldn't quite master spells from the get-go, of course, the learning curve was significantly shortened.
Over time, the prices of potion ingredients and potions themselves stabilized, reverting to the pre-crisis levels. Consequently, Deamor required considerably less coin to buy his supply of mana elixirs. Thanks to that, he had to undertake the "special jobs" far less often. The fact that he become a quite skilled burglar also meant that his pay was incomparably greater than before. He now could stick to merely doing relatively low-risk missions every now and then, which left him with plenty of time to further his study of soulmancy or to simply rest and enjoy life. This was an abstract concept to him so far and thus he made sure to relish it while he could.
In the end he opted not to tell Kate and Markus about his illegal activities nor about his secret studies. He was sure his friends suspected the former anyways, they just respected him enough not to breach the subject. As former waifs as him, they understood him well. They knew that even if they offered help, he would refuse. As for soulmancy, he decided that it would bring far too much risk for both them and himself. This school of magic was dangerous to even have knowledge of, not to mention pursue it. Perhaps he would tell them at some point, but in the current circumstances it was far too risky. For now, he just relished in the extra free time he had and used it to finally have some fun together with his friends at the various bars and taverns in the Capital.
The years went by peacefully, however the more Deamor delved into the secrets of the art of divination, the more anxious he felt. Initially it was hard to notice, but now it became clear. The results of any divinations related to his person, or things closely related to him, would be extremely vague or often even downright wrong. In theory the opposite should be true - the closer an object was related to the caster, the more precise the visions should be.
When he tried to divine the location of his parents, he found something particularly distressing. In reality, they were supposed to be lying in the graves for almost a decade, yet more than half of the time his visions shown them to be in their old house or other places they frequented back when they were alive. It shouldn't have been possible! He saw their bodies being buried with his own two eyes! Divination was a fickle art, true, but it shouldn't have be so wrong so consistently in such simple matters.
Deamor checked all of the places his visions have shown him, multiple times even, yet there were never any traces of his parents there. He even employed his Soul Vision, to see if maybe the Souls of his parents lingered in this world as ghosts, but he hadn't spotted anything out of the ordinary.
At first he considered consulting his professors, but in the end he refrained from doing so. There was a chance he would end up as a test subject for some experiments and the increased scrutiny might end up uncovering his other secrets. The only two people he trusted enough to confide in were his friends. They confirmed his results, but even though they were less talented in divination than him, paradoxically their results were wrong less often.
Deamor spent days pouring over tomes about divination anomalies, however he struggled to find anything similar to his predicament. The existence of spells and curses that could impede divination was widely known, but something that would work only sometimes and which was more pronounced the more someone was skilled at divination was extremely weird and unheard of. Not to mention that this anomaly, spell, curse or whatever else this was must have been quite powerful, as it affected not only him but even people and objects related to him and was seemingly permanent.
He was puzzled, as he couldn't think of any reason why somebody or something would target him. Apart from his secret soulmancy book, there was nothing particularly remarkable about him. Perhaps that book was the key?
Eventually, he decided that there was no point in dwelling on the mystery. There was little he could do about it for now. Furthermore, his "divination protection" could be not only a curse, but a boon as well - it might protect him from his enemies and hide his secrets. When faced with uncontrollable circumstances, seeking opportunities in them rather than surrendering to defeat was paramount.
The remainder of his time at the Academy was fairly uneventful, until the end of his studies grew near. A major exam was supposed to take place and only those that passed would be allowed to bear the title of an official trained wizard. Thanks to countless cups of coffee and other... stronger brews, he managed to rank among the top ten scores in his two favorite subjects: abjuration and divination. His knowledge of soulmancy helped him in many other subjects, such as necromancy, enchantment and transmutation. Not just his spellcasting was examined though - he was tested on subjects such as history, mathematics, rhetoric, martial arts and even etiquette. As his weak Spirit didn't hinder him in these areas, he did fairly well. By far the hardest test for him was the evocation exam, as it required constant channeling of plenty of high-tier spells. Fortunately, he managed to pass, if barely.
Many others weren't so lucky, however. Only about two thirds of the students that started along with him were still around by then and the exam brought that percentage down even further. In particular, out of around 70 commoner students that were admitted, only 24 remained. Fortunately his friends were among them.
Following the exams, a ceremony conferred special pendants upon successful candidates, symbolizing their new status. Afterwards, a grand ball was held to celebrate this event, with many high-ranking nobles, powerful wizards and other important figures present. Even the Emperor himself came and congratulated the young wizards. Deamor used this time to make new connections, hoping to perhaps enter some fruitful partnerships in the future. Despite his low birth, graduation from the Academy elevated his status similar to that of a minor noble. Given how influential the mages were in the Empire, attempting to gain favor of the promising graduates was a common practice.
Deamor quickly grew tired of the fake smiles and formal introductions. Engaging in polite conversation with powerful nobles, where he had to consider his every word, proved more taxing than casting even the most complex spells. Well, at least he managed to invite Kate to dance and the wine here was better than anything he's ever tasted. Still, he wished he could simply get drunk with his friends instead of sitting here. Nonetheless, he recognized the rarity of the opportunity such as this ball and persevered.
After hours of the ordeal, he managed to catch a moment of respite. He gazed through a grand window, surveying the sprawling city below. Sipping wine, he reminisced about his past. He has entered the Academy as a naive, 15 year old waif, barely knowing how to read, write and cast a few simple cantrips. Now, eight years later, he was a full-fledged wizard, member of the high society, master of the arcane and graduate of the most prestigious magic school in the known world. He has learned much during his time here, but not just in terms of knowledge. His interactions with classmates, his friends, as well as his involvement in the criminal underworld has allowed him to see the worst and best the humanity had to offer. Or at least so he thought.
Deamor had only precious few moments to celebrate his accomplishments though. It was finally time to pay back his debt. He would soon be joining the Imperial Army.
"But first, a few more hours of entertaining these stuck-up fools. Well, at least the wine is good." - Deamor mused as he rejoined the festivities.
/Uw Thanks for reading, tell me what you think! Sorry for the wait, the next chapter - "The Battle of Hjor's Ford" should be out pretty soon this time.
The story happens thousands of years in the past, so it's not really interactive.

Olga Perfumes Berry Perry Review
"It feels like a burnt pineapple. But not a fresh one; it feels like one that is still a little green, and slowly the pineapple settles down and I could sniff the burnt smell of wood. But it's not off-putting, and I believe most people would like it."
Scent Description:
Berry Perry opens with a unique blend that evokes the sensation of a slightly charred pineapple, transitioning gradually to reveal woody undertones. The scent profile is reminiscent of a ripe fruit meeting smoldering embers, offering an intriguing olfactory experience.
Longevity:
The longevity of Berry Perry is modest, with the scent lingering on clothes for a maximum of 3-4 hours, particularly after a few months of maturation. On the skin, it maintains its presence for around an hour at a distance of a few feet.
Sillage:
The fragrance projects modestly, noticeable within close proximity without being overwhelming. It creates a pleasant aura around the wearer without dominating the room, making it suitable for everyday wear.
Versatility:
Berry Perry proves to be highly versatile, adaptable to various occasions and seasons. Its warm, inviting aroma makes it suitable for early winters and transitions smoothly throughout the year. It's a dependable choice for both casual outings and formal events.
Packaging/Presentation:
While the packaging of Berry Perry may not exude luxury, it's functional and decent for its price point. The bottle design showcases appealing color combinations, contributing to its overall aesthetic appeal.
Personal Opinion/Experience:
As a daily wearer, Berry Perry has become my go-to scent due to its affordability and crowd-pleasing aroma. While it lacks the complexity of its inspiration, Creed Aventus, it serves its purpose admirably, offering a pleasant fragrance experience without breaking the bank. Its moderate sillage and longevity make it ideal for everyday use, and despite its simplistic packaging, it holds its own as a budget-friendly alternative to pricier options. Overall, Berry Perry has earned its place as one of my signature scents, providing a satisfying olfactory journey at an accessible price point.

2024.05.14 16:21 Ok-Passion8864 The Immortal Night [Fantasy, 1989]

Hi everyone! I'm currently looking for any feedback on the first chapter of my short novel, which has just reached the second draft stage. It's about the main character being forced into eliminating the heads of an island conquered by vampires. The title is referencing a blood moon which remains present only on the island, always draping it in darkness and making it perfect for its inhabitants. I see it as a gothic Suicide Squad with less characters.
Thanks!
The chateau remarked itself as the jewel of the street.
The building rose above its accompanying homes, two stories larger than its nearest neighbours. A grand display of the original owner’s wealth, it now belonged to the vampires, like the rest of Prache. Looking down the street, Hitchforth recognised it from afar, his target for tonight’s mission. He watched stylish vampires enter through the front gate, greeted by ushers at the entrance, checking their invitations. Checking the inner pocket of his greatcoat, he searched for the invitation given to him, satisfied it was there. Hitchforth looked to his left and saw the rookie’s for tonight’s mission checking for his invitation. The rookie searched throughout his body, appearing to have lost the card, but found it before Hitchforth could scold him, offering it to his Educator.
The rookies they gave him rarely survived his missions. Sometimes he thought they were sent as a punishment, a test to see if they could survive. In his old age he had seen countless rookies, forgetting countless names and faces. This one beside him seemed nervous, adjusting his collar, wiping the sweat from his brow, avoiding eye contact with Hitchforth. This one might as well have been sentenced to an execution. What was his name? Anton? Arthur? It wouldn’t matter in the end, but the rookie’s nervousness could jeopardise the mission entirely.
“Tell me,” he said, seriousness in his tone. “Are you afraid of me or the vampires?”
The rookie fidgeted with his fingers before responding, wiping his brow from the new sweat that dripped. “B-b-both, sir.”
“Breathe. Fill your lungs and empty them. Like this.” Hitchforth demonstrated for the rookie, taking extra care to show the slow speed of the action.
The rookie did as instructed, inhaling and exhaling deeply.
“It helps?” Hitchforth asked.
“Yes sir,” the words spoken with more clarity and calmness.
“Good, let’s go into the lion’s den then.”

They approached the front entrance, lining up to be ushered in. Carmilla’s festivity had attracted the richest of Prache’s vampires, adorned in foreign jewels and extravagant clothing. The rookie almost slipped on an exceptionally long dress, caught by the cuff by Hitchforth. Looking behind him, he saw the fury in their red eyes, that Humanity’s Hope had been invited. Reaching the usher, Hitchforth handed his and the rookie’s invitations, inspecting the vampire’s face. The slightest twinge of shock showed on his face, but was quickly concealed with a stern, professional demeanour. He waved them both in, shooting a questioning glance as they passed by.
The building appeared larger inside than it was outside, if possible. The minimal red torches fitted on sconces and the amount of vampires fitted into the building helped accentuate its size. A sea of suits and dresses spread throughout its floor, different colours and materials shining in the ambient light. Imported marble made up the floor, dark and white tiles patterned intricately. Large windows draped by exotic curtains furnished the walls throughout the building, paintings spread in between the spaces. Hitchforth could just make out the paintings as portraits, the closest to him being a group of five vampires.
What surprised Hitchforth the most was the sounds that filled his ears. Music played by a orchestra filled the building with the sounds of strings, woodwinds, percussion and brass sections. Pushing past the crowd that had congregated near the front entrance, Hitchforth saw dancing. Vampires dancing in line with their partners to the music, alternating between partners, spinning with arms outstretched.
Behind the dance floor a grand staircase rose from the floor, providing access to the two other stories of the building. It was there that Hitchforth saw the target for tonight’s mission come down the stairs, stopping high enough to be seen, but low enough to be heard. Immediately the orchestra ceased its playing, the dancers also ceasing their dancing. The congregation around the entrance strode to the dance floor, taking Hitchforth and the rookie with them, waiting for her words.
She was tall and deathly beautiful, more civilised and confident than the others. She wore a dark crimson dress, accenting her red eyes and slender face. Her moonlight coloured hair draped straight down past her shoulders, shining despite the lack of light. Her red lips parted into a savage smile, displaying the pointed canines she shared with every member of her race. Hitchforth noticed she looked directly at him, her eyes sizing him as a lion would to its prey. Carmilla Sanguine had arrived.
She spoke to the guests, keeping her eyes on Hitchforth. “Welcome all, to the festivities of tonight. I hold today’s ball as a celebration of our independence as a species, our freedom from humanity.” The guests cheered at the words, delighted at the words. “And please give our warm Prache hospitality to our sanctioned guests of Humanity’s Hope, who have joined us.”
The vampires did not cheer at those words, hushing and hissing silently as they turned to see Hitchforth and the rookie. It was easy to find them, both wearing their issued dark green greatcoats. Hitchforth had refused formal attire for the event for himself and his rookie, knowing they would stand out regardless.
“Enjoy your time tonight and as always, long live our king.”
“Long live our king,” the crowd shouted out in unison, mirroring Carmilla’s words.
Carmilla stepped down the stairs, her guests returning to conversation and dancing. She mingled with her guests, leaving Hitchforth and the rookie alone.
“Sir, what now?” the rookie asked.
“She will come to us, she can’t help herself,” Hitchforth said whilst looking over her watching her conversations. From a distance he could still see the power she held, the fear in the faces of the vampires she held conversations with. From what he had been told, the heads of Prache kept to themselves mostly, only communicating when necessary. The mission would not be hindered by reinforcements, or so he had been told.
Carmilla made her way over to where Hitchforth and the rookie stood, flanked by two bodyguards in suits. She looked over the rookie, smiling and looking into his eyes. Hitchforth saw the rookie smile back, his nervousness gone. Already her mind games had begun.
“Hello, Carmilla,” he said, breaking her eye contact with the rookie.
“Greetings, Educator Hitchforth. And who might this be here?”
“My rookie. You know my name?” Carmilla had come closer to the rookie, stroking his cheek with her hand as Hitchforth spoke. Hitchforth saw the sharp nails on her hand, softly grazing the rookie’s skin.
“Isn’t fresh blood the best? We don’t get a lot of humans here, I’m sure you know.” Carmilla moved her hand away, turning and answering the Educator. “Of course, who doesn’t know the only Lycan Educator in Humanity’s Hope? I’m sure everyone here has smelt it already.”
“Fair enough. Can we talk in a more…,” Hitchforth looked around, noticing most of the guests were paying attention to their conversation. “Private place?”
“Of course, Educator. Allow me to lead the way,” she said, taking hold of the rookie’s hand and walking ahead. Hitchforth stared at him from behind to let go yet he continued, unable to escape her trance. Playing along, he followed Carmilla up the stairs, leaving behind the vampires to dance and socialise below.

Carmilla lead Hitchforth and the rookie up the stairs to the second floor, passing through multiple hallways and doors to reach their destination. The building’s halls and rooms seemed to continue endlessly, doors leading to more doors and longer hallways. They walked down a long staircase, perhaps made for the servants of the building. They walked through a large hallway containing Carmilla’s thralls, lined up against the wall, saluting as she passed. Eventually they reached a cold room with a large table in the centre with a fireplace emitting red flames. Red ash was a new invention created since the vampires had conquered Prache, a harmless light source for their needs. They had invested heavily into the island as their home and Hitchforth knew they would not give it up easily. Looking above the mantle place, Hitchforth noticed the familiar painting from the ballroom.
All the five vampires matched the descriptions he was told, to the point he could recognise them all. At the forefront sat Harrow Sanguine, the self-appointed king of Prache. He looked younger than the rest of his family, his ashen skin painted flawlessly. His fierce eyes stared back into Hitchforth, instilling fear from even his heart. To his right stood his wife, Rose Sanguine, who bore a strong resemblance to Carmilla, matching hair and all. To the king’s left stood Varney Sanguine, wearing his familiar grey suit and matching brown flat cap. Standing next to Varney was Father Nostra, the religious leader of Prache, wearing his black cassock. Finally, standing next to her mother was Carmilla Sanguine, identical to her real life presence.
“Where are we?” Hitchforth asked.
“A meeting room under the chateau. We won’t be disturbed here.”
“And your guests? They won’t be afraid you’ve gone missing?”
Carmilla laughed. “Those fools will be too blood drunk in the morning to remember their past few days. Our meeting will be fine.” She ordered her guards out of the room, instructing them to stay outside, just in case. “The guards will be waiting outside,” she said, warning in her tone.
“What do you want?”
“When my father sanctioned a member of Humanity’s Hope to visit the island, I was surprised they chose you.”
Hitchforth shrugged. “I’m expendable.”
“Yes, they do see you in that way, and that may be so. But I see more.”
Hitchforth furrowed his eyebrows. “Like what?”
“I see opportunity. I see power. I see a new path.”
“Care to explain?”
“You are the only Educator that is not human. On Prache we can give you freedom, like we have achieved.”
Hitchforth thought over what Carmilla said, processing her words. She had to have been desperate to separate him from any prying eyes, eager to keep her plans secret. The only choice was to continue.
“I see. They say a hand that lends help is matched by a hand that waits repayment. What is the repayment you seek from me?”
Carmilla smiled more than she had before, looking more unnatural than she ever had before. Her smile outstretched to the corners of her face and Hitchforth thought he saw her eyes darken lustfully. Not lust for blood, but lust for power. “The crown. With my connections and Humanity’s Hope, we can topple my father’s regime. He is outdated, out of touch with the population’s desires and needs. I can give it to them.”
Hitchforth scoffed at the words. “And you believe Humanity’s Hope is willing to partner with a vampire?”
“They partnered with you didn’t they? I see no difference.”
“I have no partnership. Something much worse.”
“It doesn’t matter. My father is eager to enact revenge for the prosecution vampires have felt for millennia. I am willing to move on.”
Hitchforth looked to the rookie, who had remained silent throughout the conversation. He sweated through his coat, leaving visible stains. The trance Carmilla had put him through had broken, putting her attention to Hitchforth. He could feel the slight strings pulling him in the direction she wanted, appealing to his emotions and desires. He considered over her terms, it made sense to accept the deal. Why would he protect his captors? His mind travelled elsewhere, to a farmhouse and her tending to her flower garden. He thought of her smile, and the little one that accompanied her.
“Do we have a deal? You have no choice either way, Educator,” Carmilla said, snapping Hitchforth back to reality.
He looked to his rookie, signalling under the table to warn him. Hitchforth saw him nod subtly, trying not to give away the motion.
“No,” Hitchforth said, raising the table above his head, smashing it into Carmilla’s body, sending her flying.

2024.05.14 16:08 Rrobinvip Should I wear a suit for a casual dress code company interview?

I've been invited for an in-person interview, and I'm not sure if I should wear a suit. The company has a casual dress code, and it's really true. I've been to the company once; everyone dresses very casually, even the directors had t-shirts on.
My position is for a web developer. I'm just wondering if wearing a suit to the interview might make me seem too formal and incompatible with the company's culture.
Any suggestions would help, thanks!

2024.05.14 15:17 indianajane88 CEO/Exec Director Interview

So I was invited to apply for the Exec Director position of a mid sized local non profit, I worked there for 7 years from the bottom to leadership in my early career until switching to direct the development and communications department at another mid sized organization. I'm 10 years into non profit work but I don't have any experience as the head honcho. I really love the mission and have always wanted to go back to this org to run it- honestly because I feel like I know it better than anyone in the area and although it has challenges- I really do think I can fix it up and dig in. I received a follow up email that the board chair shared my resume with the hiring committee and they were really interested in me, but they still haven't opened the formal application process, she'll let me know as soon as they do. (So I'm hopeful) My question is, those of you who have hired or have been hired in the CEO position of similar organizations- what would you bring with you to the interview? I'd like to prepare a few things to really wow them and would love your advice! In addition, what questions would you ask the hiring committee during your interview for this type of position?
Thanks in advance!

Regular public interviews given in formal and informal settings are a defining feature of the Zen records across their history.
The formal public interviews weren't limited to Zen Masters "ascending the chair" in the monastic commune and answering questions from regular Preceptors, long-distance travelers, or laypeople; the Zen records also show that we have Zen Masters being invited to the court of various potentates with Zhaozhou, Huangbo, and the various "National Teachers", such as Huizhong being prime examples. In attendance at the court interviews were occaisonally religious leaders of a Buddhist or Daoist persuasian that tried (and failed) to shut down the conversation.
Naturally, these sorts of formal interviews would be known for some time in advance and everybody would have ample time to come up with a real good question to try and nail the Zen Master with. Records of formal interviews, such as Huangbo's Transmission of Mind text involve highly educated people asking questions and follow-up questions that are evidence of the high-stakes nature of it all.
One slip up and it ends up written down.
Just as a therapist might start an engagement by asking "What brings you to therapy?" or a hiring manager might start by asking "What's your educational background?" Zen Masters and their communities frequently start of an engagement by asking a question.
A couple examples of this are the famous "What do they teach where you come from?" from Yangshan as well as the less-famous Budai's "What do you call this?"
(Found below is part of case from Budai:)
At times when the crowds on the boulevard would swell, Budai would open up his bag, dump it all out on the street, and exclaim, ”Look, look!”
He would then pick things up, item by item, whilst asking passersby, ”What do you call this!?”
Over the years at /Zen, we have put together some "standard questions" that test both people's willingness to sincerely engage with the Zen tradition of public Q & A as well as their understanding of this tradition.

Standard Questions

1) Where have you just come from?

Seeking for no dharma within; establishing no dharmas without.

2) What's your text?

I've been reading and taking extensive notes on Mingben's Illusory Man. That's the text I've come back to again and again since we first received an English translation of it from Mr. Dufficy a few years back. Part of the charm of reading Zen texts is that every single engagement involves answering the questions that the text poses as well as bringing forth different aspects of it for consideration.
It's a lot like coming back to Romeo & Juliet by watching a theatre production of a it, listening to a recording of it, or watching a film adaption of it, having read it in print.
Mingben is at the tail-end of Zen in China and the type of instruction he gives in his text seems very clearly tied to the collapse of society, literacy, and conversation around him. To wit, "Why are crows black?" is very much a non-starter for dharma-conversation in Zen.

3) Dharma low tides?

In general, people going around trying to find imaginary "high tides" to escape "low tides" just aren't engaging in Zen study. Conceiving of the Zen dharma as a matter of "tides" is like chasing after an imaginary haze in the distance in the belief that it will satisfy thirst.
Part of the history of this question on /Zen comes from the fact that religious-meditators in the not-Zen Dogenist religion were not satisfied with the results of their asceticism since it didn't resolve the doubts that initially spurred them to engage in prolonged sitting for medically and mentally unhealthy lengths of time.
As evidenced by the the decade of attempted AMA's (some of which are recorded here), the only type of answers that the religiously inclinded provide to the obviously-distressed askers of this sort of question boil down to stuff like "pray-meditate harder", "just believe", or "discuss with your Priest".
That is not Zen.
It's also the sort of stuff that pisses Zen Masters off.
Deshan:
I see that wherever you go you determine to learn Buddhism in the assembly of some old baldy, taking on a load without concern for your body or life. All of you have had your eyes nailed shut and your root of life severed. You’re like two or three hundred whores. You say your regal sway sets up the banner of the teaching to open the eyes of later generations; but can you even save yourselves?
Yunmen:
"These old shavepates everywhere! Sitting on round chairs and long [meditation] benches, they want to acquire fame and profit. Asked about Buddha, they answer 'Buddha,' and asked about patriarch they answer 'patriarch,' and they shit and piss. [What they say] is just like information passed around among boondock grannies. They don't even know good from bad!
"You're all just like them; [you ought to] have trouble to consume even water [with a good conscience]."
Zhenjing:
For no reason [people that claim to know] sit in pits of crap fooling spirits and ghosts. When people are like this, what crime is there is killing them by the thousands and feeding them to the dogs?

2024.05.14 15:04 makoons_preschool Success Stories: Insights from Owners of Makoons Play School Franchises

The ascent to educational entrepreneurship is a path not often taken lightly. The pillars of play school establishment are grounded in fostering the foundation of future innovators, creators, and leaders. For those who venture into the world of educational franchise, success is rooted in a rare blend of vision, execution, and pedagogy that resonates beyond the classroom. Makoons Preschool is a beacon of exemplary success in this domain, where each franchisee’s tale is a testament to the brand’s ethos and individual pursuit of excellence.
Here, we shine a light on the journeys of Makoons Kids School franchise owners. Their narrative underscores the essence of educational investment and community building. For entrepreneurs looking to make a meaningful foray into the preschool sector, these insights offer a compass, guiding you to chart a course toward your aspirations.

Empowering Entrepreneurs in Education

Entrepreneurship in education is a distinctive pursuit, woven from threads of aspiration and societal impact. Makoons Preschool has championed this cause by empowering individuals to build not just a business, but a sanctuary of learning and personal development.

The Vision that Sparks a Venture

The collective experience of over a decade in setting up bespoke nurseries tailored for each child’s unique identity is the foundational stone of the Makoons legacy. A visionary approach, catering to holistic growth through a comprehensive curriculum, has been pivotal in stirring entrepreneurship in education.

Nurturing a Growth Mindset

At the heart of Makoons philosophy lies the belief that the role of education extends beyond mere instruction; it is the catalyst for intelligence development. This mindset has permeated the venture strategies of its franchise owners, igniting a spirit of continuous learning and adaptation in the often-stagnant realm of play school education.
The trajectory of success for small franchise businesses in India is vividly illustrated through the expanding network of Makoons Preschool, a testament to how localized businesses can thrive on a national scale through dedication and an evolved educational ethos.

Cultivating a Community of Learning

Teaching is a communal enterprise, and Makoons franchisees understand the importance of fostering a familial environment within their establishments. The tactile and emotional investments in community building have been fundamental in the replication of the brand’s core values in each franchise.

Music, Art, and the Masters of Tomorrow

Makoons pupils are not just children; they are the composers of their operas, the artists of their exhibits, and the budding scholars ready to thread their tapestries of knowledge. The curriculum instills a fine blend of the arts with science, technology, literacy, and numeracy, ensuring a holistic developmental experience.

The Prep School Push

Success is often measured in the milestones achieved, and for Makoons alumni, that translates to a seamless transition into primary education. The playschool serves as a preparatory ground for the rigors of formal schooling, ensuring that the children maintain their love for learning as they become responsible members of a broader social fabric.

A Spectrum of Supportive Staff

In the orchestration of a successful play school, it is the staff that sets the tempo. The dedicated team behind the Makoons franchisees forms the bedrock of the institution, offering a nurturing environment that is second only to a parent’s care.

Knowledge, Dedication, and Enthusiasm

The staff at Makoons are not just educators; they are mentors, guardians, and confidants. Their mastery of the curriculum is exceeded only by the warmth and love they provide, creating a harmonious environment that encourages each child’s self-confidence and introspective exploration.

Gateway to Growth and Responsibility

The staff’s pedagogical competence extends to more than just academics; they are sculptors of character, guiding the youngsters to realize their full potential while instilling the values of compassion and social responsibility.

2024.05.14 14:28 vincekyle What do u think is her intention?

I just wanted some insight sa nangyari sakin, me (m20) and my ex is (f21). This Happened like a months ago when my ex suddenly message me out of the blue na she wanted to invited me sa family celebration nila. Take note before this happened break na kami for almost 1 year, add mo pa na we dont have any connections in any socmed kaya magugulat ka na nag message sya suddenly. Going back sa invitation ang pinaka intention nya raw sa pag invite sakin is nung tinanong sya ng father nya kung may naiisip syang iinvite at ako daw una nyang naisip, inadd nya pa na dati nya pa daw ako gusto ipakilala sa family nya but we didn't have a chance during our relationship and I get it naman, and the last thing she mention is for the closure na rin daw and i get it too because during those 1 year post break up namin we have some confusing interaction with each other.
Pumunta ako sakanila medyo distance lugar nila and need ko pa bumyahe, wala naman problem sakin dahil gala ako plus sasagotin nya naman daw transpo ko pabalik if ever so why not. Then nung nakarating na ko after almost 3 hours na byahe sakanila, Pagkadating ko don sa nirent nilang place, maya maya pagkaupo ko sa sofa mother nya agad bumungad sakin, sabi ng ex ko gusto daw ako kausapin ng mother nya and this is my first time meeting her mother, napaisip ako sa sarili ko parang we are not in the right set up for this, pero kinausap ko pa din and we did get along, we talked about our views, interest, and different things and I think her mother liked me. Fast Forward sa family party nila after the dinner, when I was alone sa pool tinawag ako ng ex ko para umakyat upstairs, she introduced me sa ate nya which I know her naman and we have few interaction sa socmed and nagbibiro kung namimiss ko which I didn't answer. After sometime nung bumaba downstairs ate nya and her friend, kami nalang ng ex ko sa room pati pinsan nya and we did play online games na nilalaro namin nung kami pa. After namin maglaro both of them did talk, honestly it was casual not until napunta yon sa usapan regarding their status and recent kausap and wala naman problem sakin as long as wala ako don cause it's frickin awkward, like di ba sila nakakaramdam na I'm there like ex ako, I had to leave the room na awkwardan ako sobra, nung asa labas ako I blend in sa mga friend ng ate nya and played billiards with them, sumunod sakin ex ko sinabi nya kung gusto ko daw pumasok sa room pasok lang daw ako, and sabi ko later nalang since fresh pa yung nangyari earlier. Fast forward again nagsibabaan na mga friend ng ate nya and her cousin mag siswimming sila, don na ko pumasok sa room, bali kami nalang dalawa ng ex ko and this time we did talk regarding our relationship and our unsettled issue in the past, di ko na imemention lahat but ang pinaka main thing lang don na tinanong ko ay regardless ano intention nya kung closure ba talaga or she has other plans pa about samin and she did say wala, tinanong ko din intention nya ano ba talaga gusto nya kase ang unusual ng invitation for an ex sagot nya, ako lang daw talaga pumasok sa isip nya. Then after ng usapan namin I did agree with it sabi ko maybe it was really a closure since I did ask her multiple times just to confirm and akala ko it was the climax eh pero hindi pa pala.
After nung usapan namin sakto tapos na din swimming nung family and friend nya, bumaba na din kaming dalawa dahil mag iinuman na daw. During nung inuman naikot yung baso and we just talked casually naman and asking some question regarding sa ginagawa na namin pero habamg tumatagal I think nagiging clingy na sya towards sakin? Then later sabi nya sakin matutulog na daw sya and samahan ko daw sya upstairs sa room and sinamahan ko sya and nung asa hagdan na kami habang paakyat kami hinahawakan nya kamay ko and binitawan nya lang nung asa pinto na. After nito bumaba na ko, humiga ako sa sofa malayo sa living room and the stair kung asaan mga friends nila and it was a little bit dark and medyo isolated ako from the rest, makalipas mga 10 min kita ko ex ko bumaba and akala ko pupunta syang restroom or sa friends nila since magkakalapit lang, and nagulat ako sakin sya pumunta and biglang humiga sakin na shock ako and may tama na kaya hinayaan ko nalang, we stayed like that for a long time during those time nagiging aggressive sya like she kissed my neck a lot and smelled me, humihigpit pa nga yakap nya. Tas after non pinaayos ko na sya kase nakapatong sya sakin pinaupo ko na and nung nakaupo na kami bigla nya ko hinila pahiga sa dibdib nya tas bumangon ako, tinignan ko yung face nya nakangiti sya honestly asa border na ko ng temptation like lahat ng action nya anyone would do something to her pero napigilan ko Sarili ko, naisip ko kase yung usapan namin before the inuman na wala nga sya plan kaya napigilan ko pa. Kaya up until now naguguluhan talaga ako what is her intention dahil di nag tutugma action nya sa sinasabi nya. I thought it was just a closure pero nagulat ako sa ibang nangyari kaya hangang ngayun na ququestion ko pa. It's not like di kami nag usap pero I didn't buy her reasoning, she said nadala lang daw sya and ginagawa nya din sa iba but di lang ako yung lalake don may iba pa kami kasama, plus bat pa sya sakin pupunta nung hinatid ki na sya na super layo ko from everyone, pede sya pumunta sa mga friend nila na mas accessible, nakakapagtaka ano gusto ng ex ko.

2024.05.14 13:34 Total-Mastodon-6888 Breaking Down the Canada PR Process: A Step-by-Step Guide for Aspiring Immigrants

Navigating the process of obtaining permanent residency (PR) in Canada can seem daunting, but with the right guidance, it’s entirely achievable. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help aspiring immigrants understand and navigate the Canada PR process
:

1. Determine Eligibility:

The first step is to determine your eligibility for one of the many immigration programs offered by the Canadian government, such as Express Entry, Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs), or family sponsorship. Factors like age, education, work experience, language proficiency, and adaptability are taken into account.

2. Choose the Right Program:

Based on your eligibility and circumstances, choose the immigration program that best suits your profile. Express Entry is a popular choice for skilled workers, while PNPs offer opportunities for individuals with specific skills or connections to particular provinces.

3. Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI):

For Express Entry and some PNPs, you’ll need to submit an EOI to indicate your interest in immigrating to Canada. Provide accurate information about your background, qualifications, and experience.

4. Receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA):

If you meet the criteria and score high enough in the Express Entry pool or receive a nomination from a province through a PNP, you’ll receive an ITA to apply for PR. This invitation typically includes instructions on how to proceed with your application.

5. Complete the PR Application:

Once you receive an ITA, you’ll need to submit a complete PR application within the specified timeframe. This involves gathering supporting documents, completing forms, and paying the application fees. Ensure that all information provided is accurate and verifiable.

6. Undergo Medical Examinations and Security Checks:

As part of the PR application process, you’ll need to undergo medical examinations to ensure you meet Canada’s health requirements. You’ll also undergo security and criminality checks to assess admissibility to Canada.

7. Wait for Application Processing:

After submitting your PR application, you’ll need to wait for it to be processed by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Processing times vary depending on the program, the volume of applications, and other factors.

8. Receive Confirmation of PR Status:

If your application is approved, you’ll receive confirmation of your PR status. This may include a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) document and a Permanent Resident Visa (if applicable). Make arrangements to travel to Canada within the specified timeframe.

9. Complete Landing Formalities:

Upon arrival in Canada, you’ll need to complete landing formalities, which may include presenting your COPR and PR visa (if applicable), undergoing a final identity check, and receiving your Permanent Resident Card.

10. Settle in Canada:

Congratulations, you’re now a permanent resident of Canada! Take the time to settle into your new life, find housing, explore employment opportunities, and connect with your community. Consider accessing settlement services and resources to help you integrate successfully.
By following these steps and seeking guidance from experienced immigration professionals, aspiring immigrants can navigate the Canada PR process with confidence and increase their chances of success. At Adric Immigration, we’re dedicated to helping individuals achieve their immigration goals and embark on a new chapter in Canada.

Helena - Courtlady of Lannisport

Part 1

Reddit Account: SunstriderAlar
Discord Tag: u/SunstriderAlar
Name and House: Helena
Age: 22
Cultural Group: Westerman
Appearance: Helena is a young woman with soft doe-eyes, and unmistakable curling, golden hair. Raised by smallfolk, and Septa’s she wears her hair up and away from her face to ensure she does not let it get wet while cleaning or in her mouth while singing. She has delicate, porcelain, pale skin and cloudy soft blue eyes. No taller than 5’5” and is most often dressed in conservative simple fashions gathered by herself, or more elegant options gifted to her by a doting patron for formal events. Never shy to present her opinion, Helena has seen the world change, and her place in it numerous times. She is unafraid to do what she must, but knows the role of a woman.
Helena prefers to wear blue and yellow, the colours of Lord Swyft’s old sigil even though she has not lived in Cornfield for many years, and has no personal attachment to the house. Her real love though is unique broaches, and hairpins, different pins reveal different favours or stylings for different lords. She does enjoy crafting dresses as well, when the rare bolt of fabric comes her way she enjoys sewing and tailoring. She is often seen carrying a unique wooden six stringed lyre, or a three stringed lute; the former the cause for her name the Six Eyed Singer. She daps herself with lavender water most mornings, and cleans her teeth with mint, and rose now that she is employed by the Lannisters of Lannisport. Clean teeth are the hallmark of a charming, easy smile to make hearts of men and women alike flutter.

Part 2: Biography

Swyft Sept (3AC - 15AC)
Helena’s early life began in the Sept of Cornfield where her mother begged the Septa’s to take her. Dutifully, though reluctantly, they agreed, for what else were they to do, and where else was the girl to go. To the Governess of Cornfield, under the sanctity of the confessional, the woman, aching from the pain of birth and shame, confessed that the little girl was the bastard of Lord Swyft. The Governess, doubtful but knowing the man was not without vice, kept the secret to herself and allowed the girl to remain. The woman, who’s name was never revealed even to the Septa's, fled into the night shortly after never to be seen again. Helena was then, as promised, raised by the septas and the Governess of House Swyft. She learns basic literacy from the Seven Pointed Star with the Sisters and numbers from the Governess. Alongside her studies, she was put to work on chores like maid work, baking, cooking, cleaning, and serving Lord Swyft.
In 11AC, a travelling minstrel named The Lying Lyre arrived at Cornfield. A dashing young man with a shock of blonde curls that tumbled down his back like a mullet captivated Helena with his songs of far-off lands and noble families. In particular he sang of the Maiden’s Bay Tourney, the feats of House Targaryen, and after some time the Field of Fire and the failings of House Lannister. House Swyft was wealthy, and the Liar’s talents earned him much and more coin from the silver mines.
Helena of an age where curiosity ruled a child’s mind was enamoured with the man and his songs. She took up practising the lyre with him, and discovered that while no maestro, she had deft fingers and a mind for lyrics. Impressed by her interest and talent, the Liar gifted her a lyre before he left for future profits in far off lands. Some years of practice though, and a natural storyteller and rumourmonger Helena combined tales of the Seven Pointed Star and was invited to sing in the sept and even twice for Lord Swyft.
Six Eyed Singer (15AC - 20AC)
It was not to last though and following the slaughter in the Kingswood, the line of House Swyft was extinguished. Not wanting to test the new residents of Cornfield, the Warriors Sons and Poor Fellows, after all, all men have vice, she left Cornfield, and took to singing on the road. Going under the name Lyrebird, Helena played and sang for her coin and lodgings, a young girl protected only by being seen when she wanted and an elusive shadow when she did not.
Times on the road were not easy and The Lyrebird drew much attention. This necessitated the need for another alter ego and after a year on the road and towns and villages through the West were soon visited by the travelling Septa Morgan. The Septa heard confessions and sins, gave forgiveness and offered small advice to the poor and needy. She spared coins where she could and allowed Helena to remain covert. It did not matter to most that she was no real septa, she wore the robes, knew the words, and offered as a good moral compass to children. For most in the far flung reaches of the West she was enough.
Being raised in the faith though telling a perpetual lie about being a sister of the cloth was a little too much to bear for Helena. After a year with the reputation of Septa Morgan growing through the small folks of small villages, the Septa soon faded away. Instead Jinny of Aegon’s Rest started coming to smaller castles; Turnbury, Redbramble, Parren Hall, Oldstars and the like. She took on odd jobs cleaning, cooking, teaching a daughter to read or a son to do his numbers. She was after all no threat, knew her letters and numbers herself, and was capable of scheming many a septa or fatherly gatesman to let her in.
Jinny of Aegon’s Rest became a traveller through the keeps of the Westerlands. She heard the tales from children and small folk alike. She had never meant to undertake espionage, but her place inside various courts across the land, and her talent for being in the right place at the right time meant she was an unfortunate witness to many a courtly intrigue. As her small gifts earned her again a broad reputation she would be traded between greater lords. Soon she was playing for the elite, and earning the rewards that came with it. Helena of Cornfield once again took a new name, the Six Eyed Singer, which she quickly used to escape her courtly life and take again to the road as a travelling minstrel.
The Strawberry Tourney and Ball (20AC - Current)
The Six Eyed Singer formed a little bard troupe, nothing extravagant, she wasn’t playing for the Lannisters or the Targaryen’s yet, but enough to provide several shows across the Westerlands, Reach, and former Kingdom of the Trident. Her troupe, much like she had been accidentally, was devious, and while she or they sang, pockets were pinched, and many houses were looted. Her troupe when apart played for all the minor and middle nobles of the Trident and of the Reach too now. She and they were as much a part of the debauchery of the West as any of the wealthy merchants. There was no party too scandalous, no whorehouse unsung, no court too far flung for the right price and the West had gold burning through pockets.
The Six Eyed Singer was not the only bard with a troupe though and soon through the Kingdoms after Aegon’s conquest artisans, bards, and mummers alike filled the world with talent. In 20AC the Songbird made its mark, and with a little bit of fun, a lot of resentment for nobility, and an ingrained childlike sense of chaos, the first of the Songbirds’ letters sang. The voice of the little people flooded across the western coast of the Iron Throne. Lord Belaerys’ dragon had eaten several children whilst growing fat and hungry. Lancel Lannister had claimed the maidenhood of his chambermaid, and sired a bastard all at the age of just fifteen. Lord Frey schemed against his overlord for a free and independent Trident once again. Was all of it true? Impossible to say, but there were enough truths to turn heads, and the songs of the Songbird began to cause chaos in the Westerlands most of all. The Six Eyed Singer and her troupe played through it all, they were bards, but the Songbird was the most famous one of all; not their little merry band.
The Six Eyed Singer though continued her good work, and with her reputation came an invite to participate at the Strawberry Tourney and Ball alongside the other bardic troupes of the West and Reach. She was not so famous as to be alone, merely enough to earn an invite, and a paid job. The planning was years long, and with new songs and tunes came new rumours. While the Six-Eyed Singer played songs such as Fleece-eye, Dornish Sour Grapes, and Lion of the West, the Songbird worked their chaos.
A ripple pulsed through the tourney, first a cheater in the joust was revealed, Ser Byron who was disqualified as a result. Then a second cheater, this time in the melee, then a third cheater again in the joust Lord Payne had accepted a bribe from Lord Reyne to fall early. Cheating in the tourney was just the start, cheating in the bedroom of the ball was the main affair. Here the Songbird revealed three affairs; Lords Serret and Lyden were both fathers to children on women , not their wives. While Lady Serret and Lady Ruskin were bedfriends behind their husbands’ backs. There was one final scandal though, which was revealed to all at the tourney. Septon Karron was no true anointed Septon, and worse there was legitimacy to foulness surrounding young boys who served him.
The chaos broke over the tourney and all the artisans in attendance were forced to flee. Yet, all was not lost, for Lord Gerold Lannister of Lannisport had taken his eye to Helena and her playing. He offered her a job, for he wished to be a great sponsor of art in the new Seven Kingdoms. So it was she came to a courtly position, advising the Lord Lannister on matters of fine art, musicians, mummery, and all manner of artisanal dealings.
Timeline
3AC - Helena is born in the Sept of Cornfield, her mother a woman from Silverhill who begs the septa’s to take the girl in. She reveals her identity to the Governess of House Swyft, and claims the child is Lord Swyft’s bastard. She leaves shortly after giving birth and recovering.
4-10AC - She is raised in the cloister with the sisters, her Septa mothers raising her lessons on reading from the Seven Pointed Star, and numbers from the Governess to ensure that she can do basic arithmetic. She takes basic lessons in scullery maid work, baking, and general service work for old Lord Swyft.
11AC - A travelling minstrel, The Lying Lyre, comes through Cornfield to sing songs of the tourney of Maiden’s Bay, House Targaryen, and the Field of Fire. He takes a liking to the young Helena, and gifts her a lyre. He stays in Cornfield for some time, both because it is lucrative and because he enjoys teaching the young girl.
12-14AC - The Lying Lyre departs Cornfield but leaves a talented and hardworking Helena with the sisters once more. She takes to singing sections of the Seven Pointed Star, and even performs for Lord Swyft a few times.
15AC - The House of Swyft dies out and Helena, unaware of her claimed parentage but with a talent for song leaves the cloister and takes to the road, not trusting the new Warriors Sons or Poor Fellows. She uses the name Lyrebird and sings and plays her lyre for coin to survive.
16AC - After a year on the road Helena takes up the name Septa Morgan and takes to hearing confessions of the poor and needy across the Westerlands. Many of them need guidance and wearing her septa robes she is the perfect person to hear them. She is no real Septa but no amount of explaining the technicality of that stops people asking her to forgive them.
17AC - Her reputation as Septa Morgan grows a little too heavy on her shoulders, and Helena takes to wearing more common clothes, moving from keep to keep and working as a barmaid, scullery girl, and baker amongst other professions. She goes by the name Jinny of Aegon’s Rest.
18AC - Chance takes its favour on her, and Helena with her simple lyre is invited to play at a feast in Lannisport. Dressed now as a travelling minstrel she performs for the gathered nobles and earns herself invitations to other keeps. With her generous benefactors she hires a small troupe to perform her songs across the West.
19AC - Travelling the Westerlands, Helena under the moniker The Six Eyed Singer, takes her talents for being present at feasts and gatherings of all sorts.
20AC - Rumour of The Songbird takes hold, and the West is awash in the voice of the little people.
21AC - The Strawberry Tourney and Ball unfolds and Helena’s skills earn her favour with Lord Gerold Lannister.
22AC - Lord Gerold Lannister recognising her many talents picked her up to be one of the primary serving women in his House. His eye for artistic endeavours endeared him to her enough for a comfortable place as a favoured bard, painter, educator, and common court woman.

2024.05.14 06:47 Latter_Quit5023 AITAH for using my boyfriend's "hall pass" he gave me on the "wrong" person?

Hi guys. Firstly, burner account for obvious reasons. Secondly I want some.... outside perspective on this.
So I (31F) have been dating my boyfriend John (37M) for close to a year. John has a really great job but has a pet project living his dream of putting a music project together. You would never know he has no formal experience but he has a great ear and he found a really great musician to start off. A beautiful talented young woman by the name of Tammy (25F), whom John has no interest in romantically because, well... he is with me and is happy with me.
Now Tammy is bisexual and it's no secret she has a crush on me. Always hugging me, wanting to put her arm around me to take selfies with me, always complimenting me. I am not uncomfortable with it and neither is John because he feels it's just harmless affection between between two new besties.
One day I ask to speak to her in private and I tell her that John has this weird thing about wanting to lick my armpits during sex (I don't mind, just I never had a partner doing... that before and it actually feels good) and I asked her if she ever had a partner focus on it. She says no, but asks if I can raise my arms up. I do, and she says "I can see why John likes to lick them, even your armpits are gorgeous." She always makes a point to gush on me. Sorry for the TMI, btw.
When me and John got in the car later that day I tell him what I talked to Tammy about. He said, and I quote, "We all know her lesbian crush on you. I know you say you're hetero, but if you ever want to scratch that lesbian itch I am giving you a hall pass.... a lesbian hall pass where I will not consider it cheating as long as it's with another girl." I tell him thanks but it will never be used, and that's the end of it....
....Fast forward to a month later and John is out of town for a work thing. Tammy invites me out to go clubbing with her, and I accept. We go and have a great time, dancing, then she suddenly leans in and kisses me! At first I was taken aback, but then I remember the hall pass and decide to kiss her back. Well let's just say that we couldn't wait to get back to her place and just lay into each other.... she also got why my BF liked my armpits. It was my very first time doing anything with a woman and although I enjoyed the experience, I think I would rather be with my guy.
When John got back the next day, I couldn't hold back and told him I used the lesbian hall pass. He asked, "Who was the lucky lady?" When I tell him it was Tammy, he got quiet, then said "Of all the women you had to pick Tammy?" I told him he didn't say she was off limits or anything so why not? He told me, "What you did was like clicking the unsubscribe link in a spam email. It doesn't do what you think it does. By having sex with her, she is likely going to think she has a shot of being with you as her girlfriend." I tell him that's silly, she knows I am with you.
A couple of days later she comes to my house and tells me that she really likes me and that night confirmed her feelings for me. I tell her that our night together was a one-time only show and I am with John not to mention I am not really into women (Alcohol was involved). She burst into tears, left in a hurry and John said she called him and asked to take a break from the pet project. My friends that I told are saying I am the asshole not for using the hallpass but for deciding to use it on John's partner knowing her crush. But AITAH if John didn't tell me up from the start not to use it on her?

2024.05.14 05:54 PaleontologistKey571 Rant of a frustrated intern

THIS IS JUST A RANT
I just recently joined a small local law firm as an intern, and I'm miserable. I decided to intern before starting law school, and all the firms I applied to were notified about this matter. However, I'm ready to learn.
The first few days were okay-ish; people were "nice.". However, as the days progress, everyone just seems to have their own circle of "friends.". I do have someone to talk to too, a dude sitting next to me in a different row, and another dude who is sitting across from me.
I admit I made a lot of mistakes in my first few weeks, but I took all the changes as advice. I came in late due to vehicular issues or a Microsoft Word error. I thought it was okay as the others would come in late as well (the pupil of Chambers and the lawyers) and try ducking away from the boss's view (if he is in), then they would laugh about it among each other. However, I was advised otherwise by my superior. Now that I come an hour earlier than the others, I would read, scroll on social media, study, or whatever to pass the time until 9 am (work hour), and if I was late, I would inform my superior. Even during lunch time, I would be back as early as I could so I wouldn't be in trouble, but the others would sometimes be back 30 minutes late to the office, laughing away with their bobba tea in hand. I also apply to some Microsoft Word classes to improve my MW usage so I won't make so many useless mistakes and be a burden.
I was put under conveyancing, which I had never studied before, so to prepare myself, I self-studied and hired a tutor to help me understand better.
Next, I realised I don't get to do certain things unlike the others ( Pupil in Chambers (PIC), certain lawyers/paralegals) . At first, I thought it was due to the fact that I was still new and just an intern. However, they get away with more things, but I get in trouble if I do them. What annoys me is that some joined the firm only a month before me, and they are already "buddy-buddy" with the lawyers.
Next dilemma: I was told that everyone was going on a work trip that week, which at the time I thought was just the bosses and the executive lawyers, but it turns out it's everyone, including the staff and pupils in chambers. I was stuck with a lawyer who chose to stay behind. OFC, I had some issues with MW, which I tried the hardest to research on Google, YouTube, and even call some friends for help, but to no avail, and I was upfront about it to the lawyer I was aiding. Obviously, I got in trouble the next week when my supervisor was back. Hence, I applied for courses after working in MS so I could enhance my skills and be useful to my superiors, so I wouldn't get that resentful and disappointed look from my superiors. Also, I didn't get to do anything that day; heck, I even asked people in the office if they needed any help (desk to desk , email and text, but was sadly ignored) .
When they got back from the trip, I realised they were closer to each other—heck, even with the bosses. I tried making friends but I seem to be getting ignored except by those 2 guys. Hence, I speak to the lawyers in a formal way, even though the secretary told me it was okay to talk on a first-name basis. I won't do so until they tell me it's okay, even towards the firm's secretary.
During lunch, I am lonely too. They would go eat together (except for a few who decided to stay behind to eat or chill in the office), and I was never invited, unlike when I was on my first day. Most of the lawyers are ladies (late 20's to early 30's, I think). From experience, women tend to be meaner to other ladies if you are not up to par with them. However, in the past, working with men was a different story; they were somehow more welcoming and pleasant to work with.
This morning, I got told to stop speaking with one of the PICs because she was trying to "concentrate.". Bitch gets to laugh and talk as loud as she wants when others are working but I can't? I use my earphones to muffle the sound if things gets loud. I used to be excited to come to work, but now I feel dread. I was contracted to be with the firm for 4 months, but now I somehow slightly regret joining the firm. I don't want to quit because its barely been 1-2 months, and I don't want to be a pussycat by crying about it or quitting (despite wanting to cry in the toilet stalls during lunch break).
Also,I don't always get tasks to do; I feel isolated, and everything I do seems to never be good enough. Despite all of this, I somehow still have the urge to learn and be helpful. So I filled my time studying and out of trouble. I try so hard to behave and do my work right so I won't be picked on or chastised by my superiors. Im getting diarrhoea thinking about it. The bright side about this firm is that they're pretty lenient, unlike other firms.
I know I can be a problem, so I try to mend my mistakes. The advice and feedback help, and I stay in my lane. What I understand is that I'm an intern at the bottom of the totem pole, especially given the fact that I'm not in school yet and that I'm slightly older (started later due to COVID). To them, I am a dog, and when they tell me to bark, I bark. Since I will be a dog for the next 4 months, I decided to be a Golden Retriever—helpful, friendly, and always ready to please and learn. I am learningto learn by showing a brave face and cry at home. I have to walk off the pain and all fo this will be just a memory. Luckily, the pay is good, and I need this for CV purposes.

2024.05.14 05:36 pumpkinperpetuoso Clothes for special occasions

I'm a woman in my late 30s. In my daily life I dress very comfortably. All my clothes are second hand, loose fitting, and casual. I'm not interested in fashion and I don't enjoy shopping for clothes because I don't like the way clothes look on me. I have been invited to a formal event with a dress code of "cocktail attire". I don't have any clothing in my wardrobe that meets this description. The thought of trying to obtain cocktail attire makes me feel stressed and perplexed. Where do I begin?
