What Are Physical Access Attacks and How Do I Stop Them?
https://preview.redd.it/j91u12l6zd0d1.png?width=600&format=png&auto=webp&s=c6207e093e878cfe73739275f732645286602c52
Physical access attacks encompass all the ways someone could steal your information. When attackers are able to physically reach a system, they can wreak havoc in the business operations, databases, documentations or archives, thieve confidential information, capture traffic through attaching a protocol analyzer to your network and so on.
Let’s say you are working at your local Starbucks; only for a moment, you get up for a refill, leaving your laptop on the table, believing nothing bad can happen while you’re away; but should you turn your head, someone comes by, inserts a USB device and steals your data, or deploys malicious software onto your device. Of course, it’s just a rough example; but it demonstrates well that in actual it is just as simple, and it leaves you with a compromised system or corrupted, rendered inaccessible data.
All the above means any education, as well as user awareness training on social engineering will be beneficial for them.
PHYSICAL ACCESS ATTACKS: A TOOL OF SOCIAL ENGINEERING
Since it includes both technical and administrative elements, physical security is often overlooked due to lack of awareness: to avert hacking attacks, most organizations are focusing on technology-oriented security countermeasures — and, despite the fact industry leaders have been saying for ages that physical access will always trump digital controls, physical security remains one of the weakest points in an otherwise robust defense.
Not only malefactors from outside organisations, however, may be involved in inflicting harm on the crucial information stored in your device — those can also be insiders: disgruntled employees, greedy contractors, malevolent business partners etc. This is why companies should keep an eye on their routers, firewalls, server farms, cameras, doors, fences, lights, and key systems that are often ignored and exploited; once the importance of real-world security is taken into account in addition to efforts on the digital front, it might save them from vast material losses.
Now, the most common ways of physical access attacks (apart from actual breaking into server rooms, of course) are invasions via USB and insecure passwords.
USB CONNECTION
When you or someone else plug equipment into a USB connection, your computer has a USB host controller that it joins to. This connection runs similar to an internet connection in that it contains packets and other components. Upon accepting the connection, the host then presents the USB device to the operating system, and this could represent the biggest risk to your computer’s data. If the USB device possesses malicious packets, these can transfer onto your device; once successful transfer happens, these files can corrupt your entire system. Even worse, they can deploy a Rubber Ducky attack, which creates malicious code by mimicking the keyboard.
As to the physical access through the USB, Google Chrome’s intention to limit USB access will come to your aid: in case you leave your laptop alone (but have the foresight to lock the screen) and someone tries to plug in a USB device, the computer’s operating system will prevent it from executing the code. Along with this, Google is adding a feature that allows users to disable all USB connections from their Chromebook, eliminating any of the USB attacks from happening.
PASSWORDS
Since they represent a common access point into a PC and network, passwords are considered to be vulnerable to attacks by hackers as they may allow the intruders to access files and other data. A physical access attacks caused by broken passwords remain quite frequent case these days — which is why knowing what can be done about it is a must since there’s a risk each computer user may face.
The most common advice for precluding such incidents consists of a) using hard-to-guess passwords, and b) regularly changing them in order to prevent hackers from cracking the access and using them to penetrate your system.
Meanwhile, improved method to protect a PC and network from physical access attacks includes also investing in biometric devices in addition to — or to eliminate the need of — using passwords. This, however, is quite an expensive way (especially if users want to protect multiple computers).
TIPS FOR PREVENTING PHYSICAL ACCESS ATTACKS
Since hackers prey on the easiest opportunities, physical security control includes extra precautions.
  1. Refrain from leaving your device unattended (especially in public areas) should also be remembered. And, if for some reason you have to, lock the screen before leaving. Doing so can shield your device from executing malicious files.
  2. Apply best practices when setting passwords — select long passwords which include letters, numbers and special characters, and bother to change them frequently. If needed, consider using tools, such as enterprise password management or Identity and Access Management (IAM), as an additional measure.
  3. Deploy two factor authentication (2FA) and biometric devices for better protection.
  4. Avoid utilizing USB devices that came from untrusted sources.
  5. Watch over all the elements of physical security of your enterprise (fences, key systems, security alarms etc).
Finally, if you lose data due to malicious code, physical hardware failures or other problems, know solutions could be available: the team at SALVAGEDATA specializes in data recoveries for a diverse array of server and device types, so we can surely help you there!

2024.05.14 14:31 GameBunny-025 Since Horus hasn't gotten a BF yet, I've written a little something (this is my take on it, feel free to make up your own)

I sat on my thrown with a frown on my face. It wasn't fair. It wasn't fair at all! Magna, Mortifica, Liona, even Anatola! Why not me?
"Abaddon!" I shouted and my first captain appeared.
"Yes, my lady?" He stood at attention.
"What do my sisters have that I don't?"
Abaddon looked confused, "My lady?"
"Sanguinia has her Dove, Anatola has her Rose, even Mortifica has her... Whatever she calls him. Why do I not have a partner? I'm the Warmaster for Emperor's sake!"
Abaddon stammered. He didn't know how to answer. Unsurprising.
"H-Have you tried... Asking someone out?"
I frowned, "You think me so simple not to think of such elementary methods?"
"N-No, my lady. Of course not. It's just... Maybe it's because you're so..."
I leaned closer, my eyes narrowing, "So what?"
"Don't take this the wrong way. You're a giant, power-armored, immortal, practically god-like being. I doubt many would... Take the chance."
"Doesn't mean there aren't any," a new voice spoke out. Tarrik Torgadon walked in with his usual swagger, "And it's probably destiny."
Now I was confused, "Explain."
"Well, your sisters have gotten partners only through certain specific occasions. Lady Anatola got hers in a massive battle. I was there, Rose was wielding a chainsword bigger than him. And Lady Lilith got hers at one of those religious backwater conventions or whatever they are."
"So you're saying I'm unlucky?"
Tarrik twisted his lips, "Kind of? But who knows, maybe your knight in shining armor will appear any second."
I laughed at that, "Oh please, Tarrik. The chances of us meeting anybody in this sector of space are astronomically-"
A beeping noise broke me off. My communications officer turned to me and said, "We're being hailed, my Lady."
"By whom?" I ask. There wasn't supposed to be anyone here.
"Unknown. But they sent us a message. It reads: We are friendly. May we appear so we can discuss peace?"
Appear? What do they mean appear? This could be a trap. I guess it didn't matter. I had three dozen warships with me. Whatever comes at us will be destroyed.
"Fine. Tell them I shall meet them."
The officer relayed the message and a ship appeared out of nowhere a second later. Energy sparked in the dark void of space as the vessel's hull materialized. But there was no sign of warp activity. A cloaking device? It was only one and it didn't look particularly impressive despite its sleek design.
An hour went by as the ship got into position next to my Vengeful Spirit. In moments I would meet its captain and hopefully get answers.
"This could be him," Tarrik said.
"Who?" I asked.
"You know."
I scoffed, "Tarrik, once again, the chances of me finding my so-called 'knight in shining armor' on this unknown vessel is-"
The door opened and I was greeted with a sight that made me... Feel. There were two dozen individuals. All humans. A third were women, the rest men. Most of the men wore bulky armor and carried powerful-looking weapons.
But none of that interested me.
The man leading them. He was well over two meters tall. Neatly cropped silver hair adorned his head. His crimson eyes stared into mine. His skin as pale as snow-covered ash. The gray and white suit he wore utterly failed to hide his powerful body. He stood with his arms behind his straight back.
What was this? A witch? Did he use some kind of sorcery? What do I feel? Why do I feel it? How? He...
"Greetings," he spoke, his voice like a melody to my ears, "I am Antonius Maximilian Kantor, Admiral of the first Altraxian Commonwealth Fleet."
My hearts sank. My words refused to come out of my throat. My mouth opened yet not even air escaped my lips. A nudge from Tarrik brought me back just enough.
"Hera Lupercal. Warmaster of the Emperor's armies. Lady of the Lunar Wolves. Conquerer of a million worlds."
I don't know why I said all of that. My mind just devolved into its basic instinct. To make those beneath me fear me. Perhaps that's why I'm...
"An impressive assortment of titles," Antonius said, unnerved by my words, "Hera. Like the goddess of Ancient Terra?"
I stammered, "Y-Yes. Quite a joke name, isn't it?"
"Not at all. It's most fitting."
I swear I could feel my hearts skip a beat. I could feel my face burning like a star. What is this?!
Antonius extended his hand, "Shall we move to a more appropriate location? I believe we have much to discuss."
I hesitated. My arm felt heavy as I slowly lifted it and gently clasped his small hand. Despite my thick gauntlet, I could feel the softness of his palm.
Was this it? Did I... Find him?

2024.05.14 14:28 -beleriand- How to Stop Wasting Time?

If I'm posting and rambling too much y'all ignore me. I've just found such community here and it's so helpful.
So, I know a lot of the advice I see in this thread and from AA folks (I don't attend currently but I think it's super helpful!) is that you need to have hobbies. I have an abundance of those. I have never been short on hobbies, I write, paint, read, crochet, am really into movies, I cook, draw, color, love board games and puzzles.
...but somehow when I get the urge to drink I can't... Distract myself? The urge is so strong and overwhelming that the idea of doing any of that stuff just seems annoying to me. Most of the time I just sit around until I'm tired enough to lay down. I have a lot of trouble sleeping as I have had chronic insomnia all of my life. So I lay in bed until it gets too late to reasonably go get anything to drink (but I'm surrounded by 24hr options anyway) and I just...am mad. I get so annoyed and irritated when I decide I want a drink. Which is most days. And I usually don't drink. But how are y'all doing all this stuff? Did you have to wait until later into your sobriety to care about doing any of it?
I don't know how to say what I want to say. Just that when I get that urge, I get so MAD that I "can't" drink that I waste a lot of time doing just nothing. There's so many projects I could be catching up on, books I could be finishing faster than I am (I do read pretty consistently) and movies I could be watching. But I just don't want to do any of it.
The people closest to me tell me they can tell when I'm craving a drink because I won't "commit" to anything. I won't engage in social activities, I won't get started on my crochet or reading in the evenings, I won't even start a movie. It just feels impossible and paralyzing in those moments.
How do I stop wasting so much time thinking about drinking even when I'm not? Does the obsessiveness go away in time? Is it actually time wasted even if I'm not drinking? Because it really feels like it when I COULD be doing anything else. I'm tired of scrolling through social media not even really seeing anything passing on my screen because I'm thinking about alcohol and how I can't have any.
Anyway, idk if this made any sense at all...but thanks for listening y'all.

2024.05.14 14:26 HappyHippoButt Which varieties (heritage maybe?) would you recommend growing based on flavour?

I have had my allotment since Easter but I am already thinking ahead to the next sowing/next spring. I would prefer to sow varieties where I can reuse the seeds to help keep costs down.
As a child, my aunt had an allotment and the cabbages she grew (I don't know which variety they were other than a pointed spring cabbage and she's passed away so I can't ask her) live rent free in my head as they were far superior in taste to the ones found in a supermarket.
As a newbie, there's so much choice but I don't want to spend time growing something that looks palatable but lacks flavour (and I can't afford to buy all the seeds!). I bought a black tomato variety which has germinated well but I've been told that it lacks flavour - that's what I want to avoid - but I guess I'll find out once it fruits.
I don't mind a bit of extra work to ensure these grow, if it's needed.
The kids love carrots, sweetcorn, broccoli, kale, salad leaves, cabbage, brussel sprouts, potatoes, peas, beans, cucumbers and tomatoes. (Ok, it's only one of them that likes the cabbage and brussel sprouts....) I like courgettes, squashes, chillies and peppers. They love fruit and I plan on getting some patio trees to live in a poly tunnel next year.
I'm also looking at recommendations for varieties of beans, potatoes and onions that store well but are also good for flavour.
I have planted huauzontle so not scared of growing things that you won't find in supermarkets and in fact, if you CAN'T get a fruit/veg easily in the supermarket, then I'm more interested. I've also planted some quinoa and happy to know about other grains you would recommend.
So please, share your "must have" flavour bombs for your allotments, but also any that miss the mark in your opinion.
Thank you in advance.

2024.05.14 14:18 ashcashx33 I [27F] punched [28M] partner in the head during a heated argument. He wants to work on the relationship, I do not. How do I proceed?

On mother's day, me and my boyfriend decided that we wanted to go out to our favorite arepa spot. I wasn't really in the mood to go out because of other personal issues, but since he insisted we go, and I went. I was already ready when he arrived, but I was in an argument with my son's father prior via WhatsApp, and took a little while to come down. He called me and he has a slight attitude and he's telling me he's been waiting 20 minutes outside and what was I doing? I told him it wasn't 20 mins and I come downstairs to leave. As I'm leaving my mother tells me she's cooking and asked if we wanted to stay to eat. I got outside and tell him and he seems indecisive, and tells me that the arepa spot we were planning on going to was 40 mins away due to traffic. He asked me what I wanted to do, and I said I wasn't sure. He asked if there was a Qdoba around and I said I didn't want to eat Qdoba because my mom was cooking the same thing. He argued it wasn't the same thing, and jokingly I told him that I could buy him a tub of sour cream and tortillas for the same experience. While we went to get gas, I tried talking to him about the stupidity my son's father said to me through text. My bf brushed me off and said that what he was saying was BS and he didn't want to hear anymore. He normally hears me out, but I don't know what happened this time. While we were driving he tells me that I'm privileged because I don't eat the same food more than once. I just told him that's just me and I don't like to eat the same food more than twice in one week. At a point I ended up getting a migraine and I asked him if he could lower his voice as I had a headache. He proceeds to tell me he's not yelling and that's how he talks. He says something in between the lines of " now I feel like I forced you to come out and you have a headache". I told him I never said that. He proceeded to repeate the same thing twice and slightly annoyed I responded with "I'm fine". This warranted a whole argument and I asked him what was the miscommunication? He said there was none and claimed I was miscommunicating. We continue arguing and at a point I laugh and tell him we're arguing about nothing. He tells me that the moment he gets mad and argues back it's funny and it's no big deal. I just tell him that he's hangry which is why we were arguing. He denies that he is, but continued to proceed arguing. At a point, frustrated I started raising my voice more and tell him to stfu please. I'm trying to explain to him where the miscommunication is coming about, and he's talking over me and telling me to stfu. It dies down, and he starts up again, and at a point I turn my body and began punching him in the head while he's driving. They're not hard punches, but nonetheless I punched him. With a shock he tells me " I don't know what type of trauma you've been through, but that's unacceptable. I'm driving back home, and you better find your own means of getting home!". We get to his house and I'm ordering a Lyft. Fuming because I'm disappointed in myself and also in him. He sees me ordering the Lyft and tells me to cancel it that he's driving me home. I told him no. I'm crying, balling, and I'm telling him I'm sorry for hitting him and that I shouldn't have. Genuinely I'm sorry. I tell him that this isn't going to work out anymore because now I feel like a monster. I feel that I made things worse, and that it shouldn't have gotten this far. I told him I couldn't do it anymore. He's trying to talk to me, but I made up my mind to leave and take the Lyft back home. When I was leaving he kept calling and I didn't answer. I blocked him, I took my share of our money in a joint savings account, and basically went radio silent. He's been reaching out through every means and apologizing saying he shouldn't have pushed me to that extent. But I honestly feel that once we get to that point the relationship has to end. I'm torn whether to break up for good or perhaps look into couples counseling. We've been together for three years and it's the first time we've had an argument this bad. How can I go from here? Thanks.

2024.05.14 14:13 Jazzlike_Cook4603 WBW if I ask my grandparents to take off the parental controls on my phone.

I'm a 16-year-old girl. I live in my grandparents. So I have a lot of parental controls on my phone. I'm going to make a list because it's easier for me. All of my contacts have to be approved by them. They can read my text messages. On their phone and if I delete a text message it instantly gets sent to them. My location has to be on And after a certain amount of time, they get a notification saying I'm not wear am supposed to be. All apps have to be approved of. (The only reason I got readit was because I just told my grandmother that I was gonna be looking at memes). I cannot make phone call without them getting approved. All social media have to be privated. I only have Snapchat and YouTube. I cannot Google anything. I also can't delete any pictures. And any pictures I delete instantly goes to them.
I want to talk to my grandparents about taking them off. Because I'm almost an adult and I think I'm responsible enough. If you're wondering what I did, that was so bad I had a 28 year old girlfriend when I was 14. And that was 2 years ago I think I'm more responsible.

2024.05.14 14:03 Hot_Frosty0807 You can fart a bubble of invincibility just big enough for two adults on your first date.

The bubble protects against absolutely everything. Fire, water, gunshots, hurricanes, car accidents, laser beans, etc. You can only do it when you're on a first date with someone, and it pops at midnight. The smell and sound are the worst thing that ever came out of your body. It's just big enough for the two of you, so you have to stay in very close proximity. No on can get out until the bubble pops at midnight. You can never do it again with the same person.

2024.05.14 14:00 Sir_David_Davidson When you accept a flaw and remain confident despite it, more attraction and/or respect can be generated than if you lacked the so called flaw altogether!

Hi, David here!
Everyone has flaws and imperfections, either physically or personality wise.
Don’t get hung up on things about yourself which may be unalterable.
Don’t always be trying to overtly hide such flaws. The insecurity shown when trying to hide a fault often comes off as being way less attractive than the actual fault itself.
Obsessively trying to hide a fault highlights a person’s insecurity and shows low self-confidence.
In the cases where the fault could potentially have an impact on your performance, it’s often much more effective to directly address the issue upfront, and call out the elephant in the room as it were.
But for the scenarios where the fault is inconsequential, you could choose to address it instead in a more nonchalant manner. If the fault does not matter to you, why should it matter to other people?
You can joke about your flaws, but do not do so in a self-deprecating kind of way. If you joke about yourself in a self-deprecating kind of way, then you are probably hoping that people will laugh with you instead of just at you. And while perhaps funny, this does not make you look attractive.
However, being able to openly joke about yourself in such a way that you are not simply searching for approval from others, shows that you are truly comfortable with who you are.
You can also re-frame a fault as a positive.
Being overly defensive or qualifying oneself let’s someone know that they have successfully accomplished getting under your skin, which may have been their very intention. Completely ignoring such remarks or either responding nonchalantly or with a joke is often a much better response.
There are actually many benefits to having flaws:
When you accept a flaw and remain confident despite it, more attraction and/or respect can be generated than if you lacked the so called flaw altogether.
Especially if the flaw is physical. Internal confidence is a way more attractive than some external superficial flaw.
If the flaw is blatantly obvious, and yet you conduct yourself as if it has no drastic effect on your self-worth, it shows great self-confidence.
Similarly, if others try to actively attack you over a flaw, but you remain nonreactive, confident and well-grounded despite their provocations, you can come off looking even better than before.
Faults can also allow other people to find you more accessible and relatable. People can’t identify and connect well with others who appear perfect.
And finally, learning to overcome certain shortcoming in life is what allows you to build resourcefulness, character and work ethic.

BTW, I wanted to let you know that I just finished putting together my eBook "Bros Guide to Meeting Women" version 4.0 and would LOVE to get some honest feedback from you!
I decided to give it away for free for the time being.

The eBook is 27 pages long and gives you a practical step-by-step solution to meeting women (15+ years of knowledge put into it).
You can get the eBook by clicking here!

This book is the result of going out and socializing with girls for over a decade. I have put in there all the fundamentals I have learned over that time so I would really appreciate all the feedback I could get!!

What are your thoughts? Do you have any tips to add?
Let's discuss in the comments :)
Thanks for reading and have a GREAT day!

2024.05.14 13:58 Hot_Needleworker5812 People coming in late

Does your gym allow people to come in late? Ours doesn’t seem to have a late policy at all. There are people who come in 15 minutes late- after demos, warmups and even after we’ve already done a station. We are distributed numbers of where to go. Today, someone came in super late and then went in front of the weight I was about to use, there was already 3 people at our station. It can be really distracting when people jump in or walk across the room during sets because they are late. I wish our gym had a stricter policy. I get people run late but after the warmups you shouldn’t be allowed in. To preference this is a morning class.

2024.05.14 13:55 channs3 How to Succeed on Fiverr: A Personal Guide from making my first 10k

Disclaimer: These tips are from personal experience from earning my first 10k. and are not officially endorsed by Fiverr. Take them with a grain of salt.
I am going to share tips that anyone can take advantage off. No matter what category.
Why Choose Fiverr?
Fiverr is an excellent platform for careers in design, video editing, interior design, voice-over work, and web development. I am not so sure about other career paths. On Fiverr you have an opportunity to put your services out there for anyone to reach out. You get exposure to many clients with many different real world problems that you get to solve.
The Drawbacks of Fiverr
While Fiverr can be a great starting point, it's not ideal for long-term reliance. As a freelancer, you may feel like an employee without the benefits. Fiverr’s policies tend to favor customers, which can sometimes result in you losing payments. I have experienced many cases where you have done the job, but customer claims they don't like it and Fiverr gives them a full refund on the project so they get away with your work and you don't get paid. Although I must say these cases are rare because you learn to avoid sketchy clients like this as you gain more experience on Fiverr. I will share tips on how to avoid sketchy clients on Fiverr too.
Getting Started: The Right Way
But first, i will talk about how to actually start earning on Fiverr. I will be quite frank with you. You could have setup the best looking profile on Fiverr and go about making no orders for the rest of 4-6 months on that account. If you are just going to follow the tips provided by the official Fiverr, the chances are not going to get any luck finding customers. Here's my tip. Reach out to your closes connections. Let's say your uncle, aunts, friends or family to provide your service that you are offering on Fiverr for them. Share them the link to your profile and ask them to place an order with you. Creating an attractive profile is just the beginning. Here's a strategy that worked for me:
Leverage Your Network: Start by reaching out to friends, family, and acquaintances. Share your Fiverr profile with them and ask if they need any services you offer. Encourage them to place orders through Fiverr to help you get initial traction.
Make It Legit: Ensure the transactions appear legitimate by conducting all interactions on Fiverr. If you’re offering logo design, ask if they genuinely need a logo and handle the entire process professionally.
This is because in a case Fiverr checks your profile, they will know the context and know that your order was legit and not an attempt to boost your profile score.
Now talking about profile score, Fiverr has a like a metric system for every account (they do not share this with you). The more orders you get on the platform the higher the score goes. Things like getting good reviews, your conversion rate, message response time all help. So as a new account, you want to boost this "score" as high as possible. The easiest way is to get orders and leads from your social circle. Round about 3 orders is good enough for someone which a decent looking profile and portfolio to show for. However, try to get like 5 for good measure.
Once that's done, you wait about 1-2 days for your account to start getting organic exposure. Here is where you will start actually earning on Fiverr. Now I am going to share with you how to actually talk to your prospective clients. First rule, don't look desperate. Second rule be desperate. What do i mean by this? I am going to assume you have done the things I have said earlier and now your account is starting to take off. You don't have much time until that fame and glory dies out and your organic exposure goes back to zero. So you are going to have to start "hunting" and putting in the work to get clients.
How to Engage Clients Effectively
Once your profile gains some visibility, effective communication becomes crucial. You will need that as a fairly new account. When a customer approaches you, its important to respond quickly to them. They aren't going to wait all day for you to respond because they don't know you, they don't care much about you and they got other "sellers" as options. So get them to know you, and get to know them. I cannot emphasize this enough:
  1. Be Human: Most sellers respond like robots. Stand out by being personable and engaging. Respond quickly and professionally, but let your personality shine through.
  2. Show Genuine Interest: Try to use these when you see fit- your goal here is to get them to talk to you and subconsciously make them think they have already chosen you for the job:
    • "I could get around working on your project, but could you tell me more about this? [ ask a question about part of their project brief ]"
    • "I could finish your project within [give them a delivery time frame that they would probably accept] , would you be okay with that?"

2024.05.14 13:48 Ethreal_ r/guworld New Members Intro

The immortals were lost for words, they looked at Fang Yuan, who continued moving forward.
He was expressionless, no matter how many steps he took, Reverse Flow River was always still below his feet, as if fate was mocking and laughing at him.
But he continued walking.
He had traveled through five hundred years of experiences over his previous life, he did not know how much longer he would have to walk.
But he knew where he needed to go.
As if… nobody could stop him.
At least… inside this river, nobody could stop him.
In the five hundred years of his previous life.
Fang Yuan sat inside the bamboo house, he looked at the village, he looked at Qing Mao Mountain.
His fists were clenched, hope was displayed all over his young and tender face.
“It is time to give up the past.”
“Transmigrating here is my greatest opportunity! Because here, I can attain eternal life.”
“I have to make good use of this rare opportunity! Otherwise, how can I live with myself, how can I give up this chance?”
“Of course, right now, I need to improve the living conditions of me and my brother. Hehe, that little fellow…”
After the aperture awakening.
On the battle stage, Fang Yuan lowered his head, he was filled with shock and anger.
“I was set up!”
“Who set me up? Who does not want me to win in battle? The answer is obvious!”
“Brother, give up, you are not my match. Because of our differing aptitude, we are fated to be different.” Gu Yue Fang Zheng said with glee and smugness in front of him.
Fang Yuan turned around and left, he was filled with determination.
“Since the village refuses to nurture me, since my aunt and uncle are purposely pushing me aside, what is the point of staying here?”
“If I stay here, will I be able to get stronger and gain eternal life?”
“Why don’t I leave?”
Inside the caravan.
Gu Master Big Beard died, Fang Yuan stood in front of his grave.
The youngster was filled with tears, he sobbed: “Uncle Big Beard, rest in peace.”
“Thank you for the final present.”
“You said: When you were a child, you wanted to be a grand hero, like those legendary figures of the righteous path. When you were a youngster, you wanted to be a clan leader. When you were an adult, you were satisfied with becoming a clan elder. When you were a middle aged man, you were exiled from the clan, you felt that you could live by yourself just as well, you were satisfied with just raising your Gu worms and yourself.”
“But I am not like this, I will not forgo my dreams just because of age.”
“This world is too big, but we are all minor characters… I will work hard! I will definitely do my best!”

Childhood, adolescence, adulthood.
Qing Mao Mountain, caravan, he walked all along.
Middle age, old age, and eventually, lifespan Gu.
Southern Border, Western Desert, Eastern Sea, and Central Continent.
After his rebirth using Spring Autumn Cicada, Qing Mao Mountain, Three Kings blessed land, Hu Immortal blessed land, Imperial Court blessed land, Yi Tian Mountain, and Reverse Flow River!
Step by step, through difficulties and ordeals.
How difficult is the perseverance of one person?
All of the Gu Immortals here could answer that question.
Because among them, some persevered because of responsibility, some persevered because of hatred, some persevered because of excitement, and some persevered because of love…
And Fang Yuan’s answer?
He was still expressionless, he continued to move forward relentlessly.
I had once screamed, gradually, I lost my voice.
I had once cried, gradually, I lost my tears.
I had once grieved, gradually, I became able to withstand everything.
I had once rejoiced, gradually, I became unmoved by the world.
And now!
All I have left is an expressionless face, my gaze is as tough as a monolith, only perseverance remains in my heart.
This is my own, an insignificant character, Fang Yuan’s — Perseverance!

2024.05.14 13:46 Neithan3 Some QoL feature suggestions and bugfix requests

I have made a list of things that I think need to be improved, changed or fixed based on my in-game experience. Please note that these are just my *opinions* and feel free to explain why (if) you disagree in the comments or share your own suggestions. Some of them may be already present in the game. Sorry if I missed. Try not to downvote to hell just because you don't like a single article :D

Suggestions:

  1. Click-and-drag scrolling for easier navigation through the game menus.
  2. Photo mode that allows players to hide the HUD, perfect for capturing those heroic moments.
  3. Simpler notifications: Relocate objective and mission completion notifications to the top of the screen and minimize them to reduce screen clutter. It is hard to aim for weak spots when you are playing at high difficulty and have a big wall of text in the middle of your screen.
  4. Help: Add a “Help” voice command to the Q radial menu wheel. + more&new commands?
  5. Crosshair: Option to hide the aiming reticle/crosshair because it simply doesn’t help at all when you have another round crosshair in the middle that shows where your shots actually go. It also blocks the view for long range aiming.
  6. Hiding nameplates / Streamer mode: Option to toggle player names.
  7. Equipment preview: Armor and helmets should be shown as sets when you hover your mouse over them or choose them instead of the default diver armohelmet. OR previewing a helmet shouldn’t change the player's armor to the default and show the current set that the player has equipped and vice versa for previewing armor.
  8. SOS Beacon don't show up on the stratagem menu when your team doesn't have 4 players or after a player leaves the mission.
  9. Versatile Jump Packs: Allow the use of primary or secondary weapons with jump packs. Also, a superhero landing pose if you hold down B while landing airborne with the jump pack.
  10. Increased jump distance or jump height for jump packs slightly.
  11. Super Punisher: Add a flashlight to the Punisher shotgun and some other primary/support weapons that do not have them, so divers can shed light on the darkest enemies of our way of life.
  12. Standardize weapon ergonomics: Some primary weapons handle like autocannon while some handle like a pocket gun.
  13. Delay on EAT: Sometimes EAT do not fire after you equip and aim it. I try to fire a few times and nothing happens.
  14. Arc Thrower & Blitzer: Lightning arcs should damage Terminid eggs. Don't make their arcs jump between the eggs if you think it would be OP, but being able to kill a charger with an arc thrower and yet failing to destroy a smoll egg is kinda lame.
  15. Booster Icons: Add booster icons next to team stratagem list that show up when you press CTRL, so we can see what our fellow divers chose to bring.
  16. Orbital 500kg Bomb: Change the 500kg bomb to an orbital, so it can utilize the ship module that reduces the damage fall-of from the center of explosion.
  17. Better 500kg Bomb: It doesn’t make sense that one of the biggest explosions in the game in terms of both VFX and attribute is only used to kill targets *directly* in its tiny blast radius in the center. Most of the small bugs just walk away like nothing happened. I think it is unrealistic that a cluster bomb is much better for killing small targets than the stratagem with the biggest explosion. OR at least reduce its visual effects of explosion because they look too majestic for such a small blast radius.
  18. Shield Generator Relay: Sometimes explosions happening outside will kill, stagger or damage the player standing inside the shield. Outside explosions should have much less or no effect on player.
  19. Bile Titans tanking Hellpods: Sometimes -almost always lol- Titans don't take any damage, get staggered or die even if you land directly on their head or body with a hellpod.
  20. Improved Incendiaries: Prolong the burn time of incendiary grenades for a few more seconds. They seem to go out before they even kill anything or deny an entry.
  21. Convenient Flamethrower: Remove the movement speed penalty of firing the flamethrower OR increase the flamethrower’s range by 3-5 meters. Enemies mostly start to attack you, as soon as they enter the range of your flamethrower already. If you believe first option would be unbalanced, then you can make it only avaliable for armors with speed stats above +520
  22. Improve Patriot Exosuit: Fix the aiming and accuracy of the Patriot Exosuit missiles. Also, we need much better gun&pod elevation and depression for a 10 minute cooldown stratagem imo.
  23. Fall damage variation: Fall damage needs to differ between armor sets that you have equipped. Players with light armor should take less damage. However, if you want to give another advantage to heavy armor sets, then you can make heavy armors decrease/negate fall damage to some extent because they would be more protective etc.
  24. Fire effects rework: I don’t know if it is just how it seemed to me instead of how it works but fire effects from napalms, grenades etc. only create flames that are scattered around instead of a big strong wall/pool of fire. These flames make it easier to walk around or through them for enemies and take less damage inside the affected area. I think everything inside a circular radius needs to take constant fire damage. Idk how to explain this better. Sorry if it is already how it works.

2024.05.14 13:46 DxRRxxL ANOTHER ADVICE BUT FOR LUCY INSTEAD

Hi, hello, if you saw the post earlier about a reminder saying that you should save 200 pulls for a guaranteed dupe of Jiu, yeah well, that was me.
So, since it was too late because Jiu is coming in two weeks from now, then I guess I'll say the same thing again but for Lucy instead since she's still 4 patches away (3 if you don't count 1.6 since it's close anyway)
Everything I said in that post is exactly the same for Lucy: if you want a guaranteed p1 Lucy (or above if you're lucky), SAVE 200 PULLS!
According to the CN livestream for 1.9, Lucy's banner works exactly the same as Jiu's since she's also a true limited character.
There's still the red cassettes thing (assuming it's still the same currency) that you get for every pull in Lucy's banner. And for 200 red cassettes, you can buy a Lucy dupe in the bank.
That's all.
TLDR: Lucy the robo mommy is also a true limited character, want her guaranteed p1 or above? Save 200 bunnies.
PS: I'm sorry if I posted the Jiu thing very late hehehe.

2024.05.14 13:45 ThrowAwayJustAFinn I dont know if im imagining my family being bad

Hi. I don't know how i found this subreddit i just googled some stuff ended up here and read some posts. Just to clarify I dont have a diagnosed CPTSD? I'd just like to share how my life has been because I genuinely have my whole life been thinking either what the fuck is wrong with my life theres no way this is normal and then sometimes i just think that im overreacting and my life has been completely normal. I'd like to know if im just imagining it or not I guess. Also I'd like to add that im doing somewhat better and im not experiencing THOSE bad thoughts anymore so please don't like report my account for being a danger to myself (I think that's a feature on reddit?). Im still a bit messed up but like still MUCH better than I used to be.
Honestly I read this whole thing and im adding here that I rant a lot maybe im just ranting about all the bad things in my life... Just a warning I guess. Don't read this if that's not what you want to read, this ended up super long sorry. Also I dont know if this is even relevant anymore. Half of this rant is about my family and other half about other bad things that happened I think. I don't know if this sub is only about like family stuff im sorry if this is the wrong place. Also trigger warning I had some thoughts about ending it and some self harm.
The first 10 years of my life were semi normal from my memory. Its been a while since those times and I dont remember it that well. I remember my parent's fought semi often (which is normal?) and some of my earliest memories were them yelling, fighting at night, my mother going out at night and yelling that shes never coming back, and a few times my mother doing stuff like talking in a scary voice and i remember crying and saying it was scary I think but she just kept doing it (while it was night and I was probably trying to sleep/go to sleep). I was also the middlechild so my parents always treated my older and younger sibling better like them having better stuff to some amount but not like a ridiculous amount. I also remember being scolded a lot by everyone if I did anything slightly wrong even by accident and I remember my brothers not being scolded at all if they did anything similaworse. Anyways I still mostly remember being semi happy and my life being somewhat normal if not just completely normal and im just focusing too much on the bad stuff. I also remember having sleep paralysises and nightmares a lot around when i was like I'd assume up to 12 years old and a weird thing i realized some time ago is that a lot of time in those nightmares/sleep paralysises the monsteperson that was scaring me was either of my parents. Anyways maybe im just reading into things and its a normal dream. I genuinely don't know if im just being a weirdo and my life was normal and im reading too much into stuff I dont want to pretend like my life was bad if it wasn't im just wondering so please don't get angry at me if its not im just wondering. Oh also my family really never spent much time with me atleast I dont remember them being around and mostly working when I wanted to play. I also remember my mother avoiding me like when I asked to spend time with them they just said no and to do something else. I was really bored as a child but I had videogames atleast so I mostly spent my time around them. Oh also 1 person who I thought was my friend beat me up at school because I said something mild not even at them that their class was worse than ours? I also passed out at school and I dont remember why and I remember my big brother just walking by me without saying a word when I had awoken in the hallway (they saw me and just ignored me...)
Anyways. When I turned 11 or so we moved while I was still in middle of elementary school so I had to leave the few friends I had behind (but my brothers didnt as the other was just beginning elementary school and other was entering middle school). I didn't really make any friends within the school and the few I did dropped me out when they realized I wasn't exactly popular. The teacher and other kids made school hard and while I usually achieved perfect grades i started barely passing in school because of how much I hated it. I also started forgetting stuff too and the teacher scolded me a lot because of that. I started being bullied to some amount by the other kids and my teacher so I started stress eating a lot and got kinda fat. Then they started bullying me about me being fat. I also had really no friends or contacts. I remember being extremely stressed out and my big brother making fun of me because of that. Then I remember getting depressed. I started not really trying anything anymore. My family didn't help they made fun of me being fat. Also I remember not really being physically attacked much but im pretty sure I at some point complained about my big brother hitting me with a controller in my head. But I dont remember if that actually happened? Knowing them it might have. Anyways I remember crying every morning around this age until I didn't anymore. I cried almost every morning because I didnt want to wake up and go to school and my parents sent me there anyways. The kids there made fun of that too I remember one of them asking "why is (me) crying every day" and someone answered to them "that I must be so happy"? Anyways eventually I stopped crying. I just didn't feel anything anymore other than anxiety and sadness and anger rarely. Mind you, through this my family didn't give a fuck about how I went from a somewhat happy child to someone who stayed inside all the time, went from healthy to fat within like a year and didn't feel anything anymore. They just focused on their own things. I started getting suicidal thoughts. I remember when I was a child (even younger) and I learned what suicide ment. I remember wondering why the hell anyone would ever want to do that. And now I felt like I wanted to do that. That's how bad I felt. I remember thinking what my family would think/how they would react if I drowned myself in the river. I went outside often at random times and just thought about doing it. I walked by this like electricity thing and I thought if I touched it would it kill me. Mind you these were just thoughts. I never actually acted to the point that I tried to do anything and I dont think I was doing that bad. I didn't act on these thoughts. I remember once coming home from one of these walks hoping they would wonder where I had been since I was like 12 and my mother just smiled at me (almost like she knew I was trying to get attention from them and with like an evil smile rather than a good one?) and said I was just outside walking to the others. I remember even thought I was the one who played the most games in my family, we got a PS3 and the old PS2 went to my littlebrother along the old TV from my big brother. Even thought the other played only a little and the other didn't play at all ever. I don't know if I was just being a brat but it felt bad taken that videogames were the only thing that made me a bit happy in my home. I remember them doing other stuff too like my big brother often telling me to kill myself, doing stuff like pointing a toy gun at me and like pretending to shoot me and telling me to stop pretending like i was misunderstood (I was depressed and having suicidal thoughts... at 12). Other things I remember is a teacher calling me fat (made me feel a bit bad...) as a joke and my teacher sending me to a class for trouble children with bad grades (even thought I told her I got a bad grade on the exam because no one told me that we had an exam so I couldn't read for it. I was sick when they said we had one btw in school which is why I didnt know) and even thought I clearly didn't belong to that class since the other people seemed to actually not be able to get good grades, i started trying in school just a bit so they would see my grades are good and get me out of that class since I felt bad being there because the others made fun of me because of that too. The teacher there was an ass who constantly spoke to me and the others like we were braindead and i genuinely hated her. It was clear I didnt belong there but they just kept me there the rest of the year. I started sleeping like only 3 hours a night since I was 11 until highschool ended because I didn't want the next day to begin. I just stayed up all night playing games and doing other stuff. Pretty much always other than vacations and weekends I slept like 3-5 hours only. I think that made my grades even worse and I don't remember much from some years of my life where I slept the least im assuming because of the lack of sleep? Or depression idk.
Anyhow things stayed like this. I felt extremely bad and had no motivation but I just kept on living my life. Later on when I went to middleschool at 13 years old I found for the first time some friends. I felt somewhat better, like I belonged for the first time in my life. My depression went away somewhat. Other things stayed the same thought my family still acted the way they always did. Still with my friends I felt like I was okay. I forgot about how bad my life had been a few years. I still had a challenge getting that close to anyone and didnt have self confidence and didnt feel outright happy but I was somewhat okay. I remember at the middle of middle school I got depressed again. I didn't remember that it was a feeling I had always had the past few years because back then I was so out of it. I remember just feeling like there was a void in my heart like to the point it physically hurt every now and then. I guess I realized that more than half of the middle school was over and I knew my friends would leave me behind when it's over since I had a hard time getting too close to them. And that's what brought the depression. I remember some months after since I still felt depressed telling my mother I was depressed and she just kept on working and saying in a monotone voice that "oh really? that means you have to go to therapy". And it scared me I didnt know what that would be like so I just said never mind and walked back to my room. Anyways middle school ended none of my friends stayed in contact I got super depressed. Because of my lack of good grades other than the last half few months which is the only time period where I tried and got very good grades, my overall average in middle school almost prevented me from getting to high school. I remember my dad just saying that "sorry I guess you tried your best it wasn't enough" something along those lines. Like wtf I didnt try my best I was depressed and slept 3 hours and didnt study at all so I could spent all my time with videogames and my few friends so I could feel a little bit of happiness in my life. I didn't have the fucking motivation to study at all... Anyhow I got to highschool.
So highschool was the worst. But honestly im getting tired of writing. I had THOSE bad thoughts again, we have to go to army when we get out of highschool in my country so that scared the hell out of me, I didn't focus on school was bullied, family was just causing problems. No wait I do want to write a couple things here. When I was 17 i developed bad OCD. I didnt go out of my room anymore. I didnt want to touch anything that had been in my school and then anything that had touched those things I didnt want to touch either. Something called contamination OCD apparently? I spent at ages 17 to 18 probably 2-5 hours average daily on compulsions. I felt like a mindless puppet. I keep thinking how much better grades I'd have got if i spent that time on studying. Once my big brother really invaded my personal space and it upset me and made me so stressed because of OCD related stuff that I took a semi sharp object from my TV remote and slashed my leg a few times to a point that I still can see the scar. I also got angry and felt bad easily when I lost in a videogame or such and sometimes bit my hand in anger. My parents also wanted me to go to army instead of trying to not go there (theres a few alternatives). But at this point I stopped liking my family. So i knew I was not going to do that or what they want. I had dreamed since I was 15 of when I'd get to move away and never see these people...
Anyhow. Im 23 now. I worked through a lot of my issues. Not fat anymore. I go outside now. I sleep a normal amount. I exercise. My OCD i managed to best atleast to the point that im able to function mostly normally like I wouldn't even have it. Still depressed probably I don't remember what it felt like to feel to be honest so I don't know if I am depressed? Haven't had THOSE thoughts in many years. Haven't self harmed myself in years. Still have no friends because i have quite a bad social anxiety due to my life. Still thought for the first time in years... maybe since I was 11. I feel like my life is not going a steep downhill. I feel like it's getting better actually. And i've felt like that some time as of writing this as I began to fix my life and my issues.
The most annoying thing is... it's been so many years. My life has changed so much. The family I have im still in ties with to some amount even though I'd like to not be. They dont seem bad now? That bad? But I still want to get away from them completely and never see them. I just FEEL like I need to do that. But I dont know if they even were that bad. That's what I want to know here. Is my family normal. Is there something wrong with me and I imagine they are bad? I might end up deleting this post and my account. This is just a throwaway. I just want to know. I need outside input. I've been so alone that I never had that. I need to know if im imagining that I had a bad life or if it was not normal. I literally feel like I cant view my past objectively because I can't remember much. There were happy memories too in my childhood. A lot of them. Atleast some years of it. Im just picking the bad examples. I managed to enjoy some of my time back then. I just cant realize whether theres something wrong with other people especially my family and the bad people in school or if im the problem. If you actually read this, anyone, thank you. You probably know more about my life and existance than anyone else other than me since I've spent so much of my life alone.

2024.05.14 13:40 Quiet-Ad7012 I want to make my skin look like a glazed donut

I want to make my skin look like a glazed donut
I am 18yo female,
have been dealing with a lot of exam stress recently and i have to admit that i pick my skin a lot but exams are about to end and i am planning on stopping. So i need help with product recommendations to help me fix this hot mess,
Originally my skin was somewhat clear but unfortunately during the last two years I've been picking it without even noticing and i ruined it with a lot of scarring and even my arms and legs look the same but i guess let's just focus on my face in this post.
My current routine: i only wash my face with the cerave fomaing cleanser for normal to oily skin. And i wash it 1 to 3 times a day (i know it's bad but my face gets so oily around my nose and sometimes i just need to freshen up before studying so i don't fall asleep)
And i get so uncomfortable with having any sort of product on my face especially that i wear glasses and the area around my nose gets quite oily so i just avoid having more product on that will make me more uncomfortable. I don't mostrize and i guess it shows :,( I don't wear sunscreen and i live in a very sunny place but i don't go out that often anyways.
I overall just feel so guilty for ruining my skin and i am still young but somehow i have wrinkles on my forehead. I get these small acne around forehead, neck and jawline area and my picking makes it 10 times worse.
I want products that will not feel heavy or oily on my face but will still make it glossy and plumbed.(for reference i want my face to look like the girl in the last picture)
I've considered getting the Elizabeth Arden serum or that snail thing popular on tiktok but the thing is i don't really understand much in skincare and i don't really want to clutter my place with hundreds of products that i won't ever use. So can anyone help me with a routine and preferably recommend somewhat popular brands that i can find easily in pharmacies and drugstores in my little 3rd world country( eg. Garnier, l'oreal, nitrogena, vichy, la roche posay, Yves rocher, popular korean products....etc)

2024.05.14 13:39 lfixjsoxxh Self righteousness (vent)

I make this knowing that it will contradict the advice of many. This sub has been very helpful to me but also very backwards at times, so I wanted to give this throwaway a decent showing off. Maybe it’s a final trauma dump, maybe it’s the thoughts of many. I don’t know. Anyways:
Anyways, I really doubt this will hit more than a couple sets of eyes, but for the people it does, keep pushing. The best advice that I can’t give is that it’s just going to suck for a while. There is no bright side except what comes in the future. For the time being though, accept that it is going to be rough and don’t feel bad about being down. Embrace it. If you constantly feel like you shouldn’t feel bad, it will only make things worse. Good luck.

Guess tears are now tired of falling, for how many times they did. Guess my lips are now tired of saying your name and sharing a part of our story. A year after, i moved on, yet there's this empty feeling that I just can't get rid of. The heart that beats for you did not changed tho, it still cares. It still speaks for you. I don't love you anymore. I know for a fact that I don't—do I?. It's just, sometimes I miss your familiar scent that lingers in my shirt, I still order your favorite drink that became my favorite too. I miss your clothes displayed in my closet, the keychain that I've won in a claw machine. I can't forget your favorite food, favorite color, favorite things. Oh well, I think we can never unlove a person...

2024.05.14 13:24 _BreadBoy 2 month in China(s) tips, tricks and answers

If you have questions feel free to ask 😊
So I'll preface this with I don't want to engage in political debates about Taiwan, mainland China and Hong Kong/Macau. I am treating them as seperate only because they have different visa requirements. I have my own views on the matter but my opinion doesn't matter.
So I am a 27M white european and this was my experience. 5th time solo.
Taiwan (14days) Taipei - north coast - Puli/sun moons lake - Tianan - kaohsiung - Yuli - hualien (taroko gorge)
Opinion Taiwan is incredibly beautiful, the level of English in the north especially is very high. Most people will be able to speak a few words which makes travel around easy. The highlights for me were Taipei/sun moon lake/taroko gorge.
You'll want to get an easy card for general travel. This can be picked up at the airport and reloaded at any station.
The food, like the rest is quite limited in either being big American brands like McDonald's or local noodle shops. If you have dietary requirements please have these translated and saved on your phone beforehand. As a vegetarian I found that people would often just give me fish regardless of how persistent I was. This was common throughout.
The people are very respectful and friendly, but unless you get someone who wants to have a conversation you're interaction will be very surface level. They are happy to just let foreigners be alone.
I would highly recommend anyone who wants to try this culture to go via Taiwan as it is a much more gentle introduction.
Things to be wary of Getting around by walking is quite frankly a nightmare. Every pavement outside of Taipei is covered in bikes and if you are disabled this will be a serious issue without a car.
Everything is ticketed so be sure to carry cash. You can use the easy card but cash is just much simpler for attractions.
There are multiple different train types and they enforce ticketing strictly. The local train can use the easy card as well as the metro. Regional trains are more fancy and require a purchased ticket. Highspeed is treated similarly to flying and you should show up 30minutes before to ensure you get there in time.
Hong Kong/Macau (4days)
Hong Kong city - main island - Macau
Opinion Honestly I was disappointed, Hong Kong just felt very boring in comparison to Taipei. It's very multicultural and due to this I found it hard to see a unique identity for Hong Kong. Macau felt unique but just a bit irrelevant.
The highlight was certainly the hike up Victoria peak and watching the city move in seclusion. When I got to the top people were camping there I had never been so jealous. It's truly an amazing view. Be sure to go past the mall and take the small mountain path. It's well lit and fairly easy incline if you are in relatively good fitness.
Mainland china (48 days) Guangzhou - hengyang - Changsha - Zhangjiajie - Chongqing - Emei Shan - Chengdu - Xian - huashan - luoyang - pingyao - Datong - erlian (visa reset) - Nanjing - Qingdao - Jinan - Beijing
The main part to my trip, there's no pretending. China is difficult. Mostly because of the restrictions and the unwillingness of china to accommodate for foreigners. You need WeChat, you need trip.com and you need to use A map. The people do not speak English. I would go days or weeks without haveing a real conversation. I was often cut off from the outside world due to my VPN struggling to get past the firewall. (Surfshark)
If the above scares you avoid china for any long trips. If like me you see a challenge then you will adore china. It's frustrating, but I've never been in a country that gave me the same kind of highs. The mountains of Huashan rival the dolomites and they are much more accessable for everyone.
This is a large bonus for China, once you adapt everything is very easy to do. And nothing feels off limits. Except that sectioned off my armed police. China is so safe I never once felt in danger of theft or being attacked which I can't say about my own home. There is a reason for this. Anyone who breaks the law will be delt with due to the survalance.
The negatives Be prepared to take a lot of screenshots to translate via WeChat. Menus, metro stations, hotel check in. Anytime you need information you need to translate it yourself. This gets exhausting.
People will stare at you, I always took this as curiosity. Especially in the west and south as there are very few foreigners. Many of the people are very racist however. The things said to me about black people, Japanese and Koreans genuinely upset me. But I want to experience and understand so I would listen. If you speak up in defence you are often ignored. It's ingrained sadly. And it makes me question how many felt similarly towards me.
Banned websites, pretty much all our sites are blocked. It makes it hard as your only option for a search engine is Bing. And who wants to use bing. A VPN is an option but can be spotty and it is illegal so becareful where you use this.
As someone from a country with 8million. There's just so many Chinese people for me to be comfortable with. Everything is packed. All the tourist sites are full. Metro full. Bus full. The worst case for me was the terracotta army which I visited on a normal day and it was hard to just walk around.
Getting searched going into any metro or trainstation. You basically have to go through airport security everytime. It's a real pain when you have a 15kg backpack.
The spitting, it's gross.
The pros China is so cheap, my hotel in Zhangjiajie for example was only 5€ a night. And it was a decent little double bed and bathroom, tv and toiletries supplied. Easy 70€ back home.
Food (for me when I got it) was incredible and very cheap. Average was about 15 yuan or 2€ a meal. Drinks are also very cheap 3yuan for a bottle of coke and 2yuan for a water.
The trains, man did the chinese build an excellent train network. You need to use WeChat or tripmcom to book these. But they are well priced and very efficient.
The apps, there's an app for everything. Want to read a menu? It's a WeChat app, metro line app! Book tickets for the summer palace app! Sometimes you'll need to look up the qr code in advance, especially around high tourist season.
Cashless, you can totally use cash. But you don't need to. If you have wifi or data which is cheap and easy to get (30days unlimited 150yuan China mobile) you just scan your WeChat Code and pay. Similar to contactless but not as convenient.
Overview China is a real solo travelers challenge I think, it's a great way to test how good you are at making split decisions. For short trips I recommend Nanjing, Chengdu, huashan, Chongqing and Zhangjiajie.
Conclusion. (Tldr) I will be going back to both Taiwan and mainland china. Both have got a hold on me. I'm hooked and I'm hoping to get you all hooked too. Taiwan is better if you want a chill holiday to explore Chinese culture. I recommend the north. Mainland is best for the experienced traveler as they will be able to get so much love from this unappreciated country. And my fellow Europeans take advantage of those visa free 15 days.
If you have any questions feel free to ask 😊
