2024.05.14 17:29 ComfortableOil8349 Novavax $NVAX 2024 Q1 Earnings: Strategic Shifts and Financial Milestones

Financial Overview
Novavax has made substantial progress in reducing its liabilities, with a reduction of $1.7 billion since December 31, 2022. In the first quarter of 2024 alone, liabilities decreased by $831 million, largely due to settlements with Gavi and Fuji. The company updated its 2024 revenue expectations to a range of $400 million to $600 million, including $150 million to $250 million from APA sales and $250 million to $350 million from non-APA revenues. The latter is anticipated from commercial product sales, royalties, and partner-related activities.
Sanofi Agreement
A significant new partnership with Sanofi was announced, bringing an initial payment of $570 million in the second quarter of 2024. This agreement has the potential to generate multibillion-dollar returns through upfront equity investments, milestones, and royalties.
Commercial and Operational Highlights
Updates were provided on dose delivery schedules and volumes with major customers, including Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Israel. Novavax aims to optimize contract values and adjust delivery schedules to better align with current demands.
Clinical and Product Development
Novavax is actively exploring innovative vaccine technologies and delivery methods, such as needle-free vaccinations and a new class of nanoparticles designed to enhance antigen recognition and immune response.
Strategic and Future Plans
To achieve cost efficiency, Novavax is implementing programs to reduce R&D and SG&A expenses below $500 million for 2025, net of Sanofi cost reimbursements. An updated vaccine product for the 2024-2025 fall season is in development. The company plans to refine its strategic focus and pipeline, with more detailed updates expected by year-end.
Market and Pipeline Expansion
Novavax is exploring opportunities for standalone flu products and combinations with existing vaccines, aiming to differentiate its COVID-Flu program from that of Sanofi.

2024.05.14 17:24 BusinessConsultingPH The Vital Role of the Call Center Industry in Fueling Economic Growth

The call center industry stands as a beacon of economic vitality, playing a pivotal role in propelling the growth trajectory of nations across the globe. Its contribution to the country's economic growth is particularly pronounced, weaving a tapestry of opportunities and advancements. For Australians keen on understanding the dynamics of global economic expansion, delving into the realm of call centers unveils a rich landscape of innovation, employment, and prosperity.
The impact of the call center industry on a nation's economic fabric is multifaceted and profound. At its core, it serves as a catalyst for job creation, offering employment opportunities to a diverse workforce. In many countries, including Australia, the call center sector provides avenues for employment for individuals from various educational backgrounds and skill sets. This inclusive approach to employment fosters social mobility and economic empowerment, enriching communities and driving sustainable growth.
Moreover, the call center industry's contribution extends beyond job creation, permeating into the realms of revenue generation and foreign exchange inflows. As call centers cater to clients from around the world, they facilitate cross-border transactions and trade, bolstering the country's export earnings and balance of payments. The revenue generated from call center operations injects vitality into the economy, fueling investments in infrastructure, education, and social welfare programs.
Furthermore, the call center industry serves as a catalyst for technological advancement and innovation. With a constant emphasis on efficiency and productivity, call centers drive demand for cutting-edge technologies and digital solutions. This spurs investments in research and development, fostering a culture of innovation that permeates throughout the economy. As a result, industries beyond the call center sector benefit from technological spillovers, experiencing enhanced productivity and competitiveness.
Additionally, the call center industry fosters a culture of entrepreneurship and business development. As firms within the sector expand their operations, they create opportunities for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to provide auxiliary services such as training, technology support, and facility management. This symbiotic relationship between large-scale call center operations and SMEs nurtures a vibrant ecosystem of entrepreneurship, driving economic diversification and resilience.
The call center industry's contribution to the country's economic growth is indisputable, encompassing job creation, revenue generation, technological advancement, and entrepreneurship. For Australians seeking insights into global economic dynamics, the call center sector offers a compelling narrative of progress and prosperity. As nations continue to harness the potential of call centers, they pave the way for inclusive growth and sustainable development on a global scale.

2024.05.14 17:15 East_Aspect_1296 "Order Inquiry" likely scams

So we run an online store via Shopify, Google, others. We're getting these "too good to be true" emails asking us for bulk orders with certain caveats (private shipper, ACH, payment methods)... I would be shocked if these were legitimate requests, but was wondering what their end game is? Stealing the merchandise? Scamming money? Anyone know? A few examples:
Subject: Order Inquiry ....................!!!
Hello ,
I would like to make an order. We have a retail store in Bahamas.
Regards.
Subject: Order Inquiry
I am glad to introduce ourselves as a retail store in Puerto Rico, I would like to purchase some products for my business.
Do you ship to Puerto Rico or allow pick up via freight forwarders?
Please send me your updated price list and let me know if you accept prepayment via US credit card.
Awaiting your response.
With gratitude,

2024.05.14 17:14 josephplant AirBnB host cancelled and refunded my sister's booking, moving them into an alternative flat due to cleaning issues with the original flat - now won't issue an invoice for the new flat when asking for payment.

(England)
My sister works for a public sector body that will expense her accommodation while she's in a new city. She can't expense it without an invoice. The original AirBnB booking was refunded, and the host moved her into another flat in exchange for later direct payment. The original AirBnB contract is, therefore, (presumably) irrelevant). She just needs a new invoice for the new payment.
Now, I know what you're thinking, this screams tax avoidance. And yes, it absolutely does. Which is why refusing to issue an invoice sort of makes sense because it removes a paper trail that HMRC could catch them with.
But there's no law saying you don't have to pay for goods and services from businesses you suspect might be dodging taxes. Owner says she'll get an invoice after she's paid, and if you believe that you'll believe anything. I believe the requirement to invoice only applies to VAT-registered companies, of which we both have no idea if they're VAT registered. So what to do? A bit of a stand off. Yes, we'll report to HMRC with the suspicion but how to deal with the current situation aside from replying: Invoice me and I'll pay.

2024.05.14 17:12 Silent_Seaker93 WIBTA if I can put my face on a billboard with my company name to make my hatter’s mornings even better ?

Sorry for grammar and bad spelling. English is my second language.Long story short, I’m from a different country ( been in America for 8 years) and been busting my butt of to make my company work and have a successful business but unfortunately with the lack of people wanting to work while they are my partner in business it cussed me to really have a hard fall , so much that I had to close that part of my business. It end up me being behind on my house rent , my car payment ( it’s was a personal loan from a friend) and so much more .
I went to talk to everyone ( that I owe money for rent and car payment) that I am sorry but I have no money on this moment but I’m trying to get a few jobs so that I can just pay everyone what I owe them . I explained to them what happened but this fantastic ex business partner of mine ( I tried to help her to have a better life and for her kids) have peoples ears filled about what kind of person I am . So I’m the villain and everyone is looking down there nose on me and telling me that having your own business will never work ( more and more people are just calling me stupid and not making me feel welcome at all). Been so bad for me this past 2 weeks I don’t even really talk to people anymore. ( small town of 400 people here and I’m the outsider , always been ).
So my plan is to make this business work ( really want to move also ) and put up a billboard in the town where everyone is coming in to just show theme that I did made it in life and did not do the same 9to 5 that everyone believes in here.
And to make matters worse my ex ( been with him for 5 years ) lives like 5 miles away from here and where cheating on me with 8 other women and everyone knew about it here but no one told me ( He is one of the guys that owns a big company here and a lot of the people around here works for him ). Had to figure it out myself and made me nearly end my life . Make me just love this place more .

2024.05.14 17:11 h2g2_researcher What, exactly, does the term "owner or occupier" mean?

This term appears fairly regularly in law and I don't know exactly how to interpret it. It seems to be one of those common phrases that anyone with legal training understands, but as a layman I don't know how to read it.
Suppose something (X) can be done with "authorisation from the owner or occupier of the land"
Suppose F is the freeholder of the land, but L is the leaseholder and occupier of that land. The leasehold agreement probably says that L can "hold and enjoy" the land, or similar. And assuming the leasehold agreement doesn't say anything about X:
An example is in POFA 2012:
“relevant contract” means a contract (including a contract arising only when the vehicle was parked on the relevant land) between the driver and a person who is - (a) the owner or occupier of the land; or (b) authorised, under or by virtue of arrangements made by the owner or occupier of the land, to enter into a contract with the driver requiring the payment of parking charges in respect of the parking of the vehicle on the land;

2024.05.14 17:06 Impressive-Ad8454 Would you as a hetero woman marry another hetero woman?

I was having a conversation with a friend about how much easier it would be, if best girlfriends married each other.
Lived together and shared domestic duties, and just got the occasional D appointment outside the home.
How do you think dynamics of traditional households would change?
Would you be open to an arrangement like this?
Edit: I can see we’re going to get stuck on why get married. Marriage initially is a business agreement/arrangement so think of it from that perspective versus love/romance.

2024.05.14 17:04 pepper3425 ugh COBRA

More of a rant than anything, but I was recently let go at the end of April (2 days after I was told I was doing a great job btw) and I elected for cobra insurance and paid the premium (almost $750) as soon as I had the information on May 3. Fast forward to now, and I am sick and need to go to the doctor, but cobra is still processing my payment and my insurance is ineligible for use until the payment is processed (they said 7-10 business days). How the heck do they expect people to be able to handle these things?? 😫

1. 4 month of garden leaves and 2.5 month as severance pay.
2. 6 month of garden leave and no additional sev pay
Which one in your opinion makes more sense ? And also do we get severance payment as gross or after all deduction or we have to claim something in return ?

2024.05.14 17:01 TheExecTech Commercial growers: How would you view a company asking to use part of your greenhouse for R&D of new products ? ( USA / CA )

I come from a tech background and don't know any commercial growers. Happy to hear your thoughts on what I should do.
Have been researching opening my own commercial greenhouse for many years. The costs to do so in my area have skyrocketed. Also wish to move to a safer area from climate change and increasing crime. The tornado warnings and homeless are getting old real quick.
The designs I have been working on would increase yields in hydroponic/aquaponic greenhouses using the same space. I also have some solutions to cut down on heating\cooling costs for 4 season greenhouses. Nothing groundbreaking but the ROI IMHO would be worth it.
Everything would be on a separate system for safety as to not affect current production.
\ie I would pay for the hardware and labor upfront while the company would pay off the system with the profits from their increased yields and savings on energy.*
\ Would a commercial grower rent out part of their grow space or does that get tricky with insurance and local business codes ?*
Any advice, personal or commercial, appreciated. I want to grow food not fight hackers and dodge tornadoes.

2024.05.14 17:00 Solid_Kangaroo213 EAJA fee refund/attorney fee approval/payout

Hello,
Has anyone recently received a refund of the EAJA fee paid to their attorney and/or the remainder of what SSA withheld for attorney fees and what was actually approved for the attorney? Any attorneys reading this who have recently been paid by the SSA and can shed some light on how long it takes to receive your fee?
It’s getting close to a year of having received my back pay of several years worth of payments and SSA withheld 25% for attorney fees. The case went to federal court, so the attorney was able to petition for and received around $5,000 in EAJA fees. SSA also withheld multiples of the, at the time of agreement, $6,000 cap for fees, around $18k.
I know the $6k/7.2k cap doesn’t apply to case that go federal, but SSA still has to approve that a higher fee is justified.
The judge in the federal court case thought a fee of around $16k was justified, which was right at 25%, but the attorney would have to refund me the EAJA fee and SSA would have to pay me the remainder of what was withheld as well.
Does SSA have to follow the federal judges ordeopinion regarding $16k being justified or can they decide to pay the attorney less than that?
The attorney no longer responds to any emails or calls since I got approved, so I don’t know when or if I should expect either a refund of the EAJA fee already paid to him or when I can expect the remainder of the 25% that was withheld to be paid to me.
Thank you in advance for sharing your experience or insights.

2024.05.14 17:00 No-Turn6446 Contract Binding

Am I legally binded to a contract/can this business come after me even though the business hasn't sent us any deposit information (this is in Maryland)? I signed a contract with a business 2 months ago and an initial deposit was required to set the date in their books. Another payment was supposed to be due 30 days before the event. However, I've been asking for the electronic deposit info and they never sent it to us so I haven't been able to send a deposit. They also never signed the contract and sent it back to us. It is less than a week from the event and the business still hasn't reached out with any info and won't answer our calls. I asked that they call or text us because I was unsure if they were actually still coming or not. Afterwards, I assumed they cancelled on us and booked another business.

2024.05.14 16:56 TheUrbanisedZombie JustEat refusing refund when their driver deliberately left a bag at the restaurant

To be honest I dont really expect much to come out of this but I wanted to ask...
A few weeks ago I made an order via JustEat for a family meal. The driver turned up with just one bag which seemed light. Knocked on his window as he was rushing off back to his car to ask for the rest of my stuff, he told me "call restaurant boss" and sped off. Actually called the restaurant, they said the driver had been complaining about the waiting, snatched one bag and left the other before it was finished. I went to JustEat for a refund and argued with them for an hour in chat as they said based on my order history it wasn't in their policy to help me. This being because rather then eating the cost whenever something was wrong/missing I would raise it via the app, because why would I accept anything other than what I paid for?
I went into the restaurant the next day with the order receipt and they said the process is to go through JustEat and they can't help me. Had a polite debate with the manager before they eventually gave me a number which they use to contact JustEat direct. I call this number and its basically an exec / business partner line. I call up, manage to get routed through to an agent, and then eventually get through to their team lead and debate over this for half an hour. They say they understand, but the customer team's decision is usually final and when I said as a consumer they had a duty of care to sort this out they said "well from the legal perspective we're just a delivery company" and I pointed out that "yes, but I am paying you to manage the restaurant as a vendor, they are your third party, not mine"
I know this seems petty but when youve been shorted £10 of stuff and told to eat the cost you tend to get a bit pissy.
Legally I know I can just request a chargeback via my payment provider and run the risk of being blocked from the platform.
But from a UK consumer law standpoint is what they're saying "we're just a delivery company" correct or are they just blowing smoke up my arse?
Also, if I just kept ringing their exec delivery line (which they sort of acknowledged is short on people) and kept politely hassling them to try and basically annoy them into giving me a refund, is there anything they can do to take action against me?

2024.05.14 16:51 Intelligent-Car4336 Advice Needed: Transferring Vehicle Ownership to LLC for Car Rental Business

I recently established an LLC for my car rental business, which currently operates with five vehicles. These vehicles are rented out to a single company. However, they're still registered under my personal name instead of my LLC's name. When I approached the state secretary's office to rectify this, I was informed that transferring ownership would incur significant taxes.
  1. Given that I purchased these vehicles just a month ago, I'm considering reaching out to the dealership where I bought them. Do you think they would be able to reissue the titles under my LLC's name to avoid the tax burden?
  2. In the rental agreements I've drafted, there's a clause stating that neither I nor my LLC are responsible for any claims or liability issues if the commercial insurance denies coverage. However, since the vehicles are registered under my personal name, would this clause still offer protection in case of disputes or claims?
  3. Another concern is when the drivers using the rented vehicles are pulled over by the police. Since the registration documents show my personal name, not my LLC's, could this potentially lead to complications or legal issues during routine traffic stops?
Thank you so much for your time. I really appreciate it.

2024.05.14 16:45 SystemErrorMessage Landlord's lawyers threaten legal action over unpaid rent (i had not left anything unpaid)

After moving out from an indian area with an indian company as a landlord, 3 months later with absolutely no contact and nothing about my deposit their lawyers send a letter asking for unpaid rent (a weird amount) threatening legal action if unpaid within 7 days.
While i can prove without doubt i paid off all utilities and rent, there was absolutely nothing from the landlord till a legal letter suddenly arrived. They used a courier where you have to accept/deny the letter. Their lawyer claims they have repeatedly contacted me and asked me to pay which has never happened. The letter does not even come with details about the said payment they ask as they just said rent rather than the exact rent missed (even though i paid all the rent).
How should i proceed with this? should i take legal action against them instead? Though i dont have access to a lawyer for this at the moment and my job is very very busy. Should i counter them in court with evidence and instead request they pay my company rate for wasting time when i should be helping some crucial clients and team instead?

I've seen tales of hotel FD employees having to deal with cops who drop people off at the property, saying, "hey, this person needs a room," but before the hotel can collect payment and deposit, the cops just drive off, leaving the guest stranded and the front desk staff agitated with a new loiterer who decides to cause problems for said staff.
Today, we shall talk about one of these stories, at my old workplace, a motel of about three dozen rooms. The lobby / FD itself is in a suite about the size of a kitchen, like many other motels.
It's a Saturday night shift (22:00-6:00) like any other, and I'm just checking in the last of the arrivals. Someone had called to rent a room - I took name, phone number, and credit card details to hold the room for them.
I see that the cops have arrived and are escorting a man to the front desk to get him a room. Unfortunately, I'm also checking in a guest who already had a reservation, and before I can ask anything to the cop like whether he has a reservation or the funds to rent a room, she's already left as I finish handing the keys to the guest who actually has a booking. Wow, good job officer, so what was your contigency plan if he couldn't afford the room?
So the guy walks in, we'll just alias him as Kevin Kleinbottle. Kevin is a repeat guest to our property who seems to be in his 60s or 70s, having rented a few times here in the past...but hoo boy he has seen far better days. He's wearing some pretty tattered pajamas and smells like he hasn't showered or used the toilet in days. The poor guy also sounds like he's down on his luck, and I also noticed, since he got escorted here by the cops, what happened to the vehicle he would drive to come here?
Well at any rate, I break the news to him, that unfortunately we are sold out. This isn't me pretending to be sold out so I could avoid having to have a hard talk with him, we were genuinely sold out. And given his state, at least if I rented him a room he would be able to shower and get himself clean again.
He's, unsurprisingly, distraught about this. I tell him he could try the other motel around the corner, and he walks off.
Then the next day, he returns, once again aided by a cop who doesn't seem interested in seeing the business transaction through before leaving the property. At least this time the repungent odor is mostly gone and he's better-dressed, in a shirt, light jacket, and sweatpants, but still looks pretty unwell. And this time we had a room available to sell. Unfortunately, his card declines for the room payment and deposit.
He tells me to call the cops again so that they can try to get him somewhere else. The front desk phone is too far to reach to him, so I use my cellphone on speaker instead - of course, making sure it remains in my grip. The cops tell him that they can't assist him again because they are working on some high-profile case so every officer has their hands full.
In the meantime, he has me get a chair since he's getting tired and fears he might stumble over - I grab one of the plastic chairs from the back office.
I'm eager to get him off the property so that I can go back to my work and avoid drawing complaints from paying guests that happen upon his presence in the lobby, and he seems just as eager considering he can't afford a room and can't get anywhere by himself tonight. He decides to just have me call an ambulance instead, citing health problems. I do see that he has a wristband that states "FALL RISK", so I wouldn't be surprised if he was acquainted with the local hospital.
Which he was, upon the arrival of the ambulance and paramedics. They help him to his feet and escort him off.
And that was the last I saw of him - I hope he's doing better these days.
