2024.05.14 11:19 throwawayf34eae5fa35 AITA for how I reacted to my girlfriend’s daughter?

We needed to go by train to another city for a doctor’s appointment for my girlfriend’s daughter (8 years old). I work in the evenings, remotely. Her daughter was sitting next to me on the train, and I very clearly working. It was my work hours, and I needed to work — they both are aware. While I was working, her daughter wanted to show me videos on Instagram, and I politely told her I was working and asked her to not distract me. Five minutes later, she showed me another video, and once again, I asked her to not distract me. Two minutes later…again…she taps me on the shoulder to get my attention. Finally I said, firmly and a bit angrily, “I told you I am working. Do not distract me!” Then my girlfriend was angry with me for how I responded because she had asked her daughter to tell me that the train would arrive in ten minutes.
The next morning we were at the train station, at different locations, and my girlfriend asked me to get her a burger. So, I went and ordered one, except they only had chicken burgers and no beef burgers. I texted her, explained, and asked her if I should order a chicken burger, and she said yes. She and her daughter arrived, and I gave her the burger. She then commented, “I wonder why there was no beef burger? This bread looks like one for a sandwich, not a burger bun.” Then her daughter got up and said, with a hostile tone, “Why did you not get her a burger? I will go look at the menu and show you they have burgers.” Then she came back and said they did have burgers. I went and looked, and now suddenly the menu showed the lunch menu which had burgers. I asked an employee, and they changed from breakfast to lunch literally three minutes after I ordered. So her daughter had behaved as if I didn’t make an effort to get the proper sandwich for her mother, and I was angry with her daughter. Then my girlfriend was angry with me for being angry with her daughter, and suddenly I’m the bad guy.
Then she said: “You always cause fights whenever we go somewhere. Next time, I’d rather you not join us on these trips.”
AITA for my reactions? I recognize I was defensive, but I really don’t like when people bother me repeatedly when I explicitly ask them not to, and I also don’t like when people second guess my actions.

2024.05.14 08:53 Own_Slip1810 In the Beginning, There Were Golden Arches:

How to Cure a Religious Addiction:
Replace God with McDonalds French Fries:
1:1 In the beginning The McDonalds French Fries created the mustard and the ketchup.
1:2 And the ketchup was without form, and void; and darkness was upon
the face of the McDonalds Playplace. And the Spirit of The McDonalds French Fries moved upon the face of the soda dispenser.
1:3 And The McDonalds French Fries said, Let there be light: and there was light.
1:4 And The McDonalds French Fries saw the light, that it was good: and The McDonalds French Fries divided the light
from the darkness.
1:5 And The McDonalds French Fries called the light the dayshift, and the darkness he called the nightshift.
And the evening and the morning were the first day of opening.
1:6 And The McDonalds French Fries said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the soda dispenser,
and let it divide the soda dispenser from the waters on the floor.
1:7 And The McDonalds French Fries made the firmament, and divided the waters which were
under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament with an out of order sign:
and it was so.
1:8 And The McDonalds French Fries called the firmament, "Cuidado, Piso Mojado", or something like that, for it was written in Spanish. And the evening and the
morning were the second shift dayshift crew changes.
1:9 And The McDonalds French Fries said, Let the soda dispenser under the air conditioner vent gathered together
unto one place, and let the dry land appear after the floor is mopped up: and it was so.
1:10 And The McDonalds French Fries called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of
the waters with the mop called he a clean floor for customers: and The McDonalds French Fries saw that it was good.
1:11 And The McDonalds French Fries said, Let the menu bring forth burgers, the bun yielding
seed, and the fruit smoothie machine yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is
in itself, upon the menu: and it was so.
1:12 And the menu brought forth burgers, and bun yielding seed after
his kind, and the smoothie yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after
his kind: and The McDonalds French Fries saw that it was good.
1:13 And the evening and the morning were the third dayshift in the week.
1:14 And The McDonalds French Fries said, Let there be lights in the soda dispenser near the air conditioning unit
to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, so that customers may see what type of drink they can choose, for days, and years to come:
1:15 And let them be for lights in
the firmament of the ceiling to give light upon the menu: and it was
so.
1:16 And The McDonalds French Fries made two great lights; the greater light to rule the menu,
and the lesser light to rule the dining area: he made the Playplace lit up also.
1:17 And The McDonalds French Fries set them in the firmament of the ceiling to give light
upon the restaurant,
1:18 And to rule over the dayshift and over the nightshift, and
to divide the light from the darkness: and The McDonalds French Fries saw that it was good.
1:19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth shift of the week.
1:20 And The McDonalds French Fries said, Let the menu bring forth abundantly the moving
creature that hath life, yea, the filet of fish, and chicken nuggets that may not fly above the earth in the
open firmament of the restaurant, as the chicken hath been made to be cooked.
1:21 And The McDonalds French Fries created great whales, fat people coming in from every corner, and every living creature that
moveth began to move no longer. For the menu hath brought forth abundantly, after their kind, every nugget after his kind: and The McDonalds French Fries saw that it was good.
1:22 And The McDonalds French Fries blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill
the bellies of the customers, and let foul stenches fill the earth.
1:23 And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.
1:24 And The McDonalds French Fries said, Let Ronald McDonald bring forth the advertisements after
his kind, to feed the cattle, spawning creeping Grimace, and many beasts of the restaurant after his
kind: and it was so.
1:25 And The McDonalds French Fries made the beast of the advertisements after his kind, and cattle customers
after their kind, and every thing that creepeth within the restaurant after
his kind: and The McDonalds French Fries saw that it was good.
1:26 And The McDonalds French Fries said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness, fat and happy:
and let them have dominion over the Filet of fish, and over the chicken nugget of the fowl, and over the beef, and over all the restaurant, and over
every Grimace that creepeth within the restaurant.
1:27 So The McDonalds French Fries created man in his own image, in the image of The McDonalds French Fries created
he him; fat and happy, created he them.
1:28 And The McDonalds French Fries blessed them, and The McDonalds French Fries said unto them, Be fruitful, and
multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion
over the Filet of Fish, and over the chicken nuggets, and over every
living thing that moveth within the restaurant under the floorboards fried in the grease pit on accident.
1:29 And The McDonalds French Fries said, Behold, I have given you every bun bearing seed,
which is upon the face of all the earth, and every smoothie, in the which is the fruit yielding sweetness; to you it shall be served with beef.
1:30 And to every mooing cow, and to every chicken,
and to every thing that creepeth beneath the floorboards that accidentally falls in the grease pit, wherein there is
life, I have given thee the power to eat thereof and partake.
1:31 And The McDonalds French Fries saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was
very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth shift of the month.

2024.05.14 06:06 AlecHutson And . . . a burger recommendation!

Burgers are for me the ultimate comfort food. In Shanghai I think I've tried most of the most popular ones, and yet I keep finding myself at Shake Shack or Five Guys when I need a fix. Cuivre is great, but a little fancy. I'm over Beef & Liberty and Blue Frog.
Anyway, a place called Lazzzy Burger just opened in Xujiahui next to my office, and I really think they deserve a big shout out. Best burger I've had in a long time - maybe the best burger I've ever had in Shanghai. They have a few custom burgers that look great, but I always go for my favorite burger when I try a new place - just meat, cheese, and caramelized onions. They have an English 'build your burger' menu built into the app. And this place nailed it.
The owner Michael studied in the States and clearly loves burgers - after I placed my order he came by and said, 'Oh, you're a fan of Oklahoma Burgers'. And he's right, that's the Oklahoma.
The burgers itself is great - nice firm pretzel bun that holds up despite the juicy meat and gooey American cheese. I really prefer pretzel buns to the brioche buns they use elsewhere in Shanghai. I didn't ask where they sourced the meat but it's definitely imported. Onions were cooked perfectly. I went with the lazzzy burger sauce, which I could tell was a little creamy, even though it was mostly lost in the absolute explosion of flavor from the meat and cheese.
Anyway, just like the framing store I plugged yesterday, this place definitely deserves some business. They are doing it right, just a couple of young Chinese kids who clearly brought a love of burgers back from America.
Price was almost the same as Shake Shack (I believe single / double in both places are 49 / 68). IMO burger was much better at Lazzzy, as were the fries I tried.
They're located on the second floor of the new Bistro One building right at tianyaoqiao road and zhaojiabang road, across the street from the big ball building (meiluocheng). Give 'em a try if you're in Xujiahui and missing that American style burger. It's delicious.

2024.05.14 02:36 Accomplished_Bus_931 Picky doggy

Picky doggy
Hi guys!
I have a question about picky eaters.
My dog will only eat the raw food I make myself.
So a little backstory, she's 5.5 months old Cane corso/lab mix
A few weeks back we made the decision to transition her to a raw diet (with the help of nutritionist and blood work by my vet)
Soon as I started feeding her raw she started refusing the kibble. She had never been picky before this. The transition happened a bit quicker than I would have liked but I didn't want her to be hungry.
I ran out of my food and bought pre made raw food from my local pet store. About 10 days into the raw diet. And she ate it for the first day both breakfast and dinner, THEN started flat out refusing it. I thought I'd just stay strong and eventually she would eat it. But she didn't eat ALL day. She ate a carrot and some treats ( but I didn't want to give her too many and cause her to be even pickier)
This morning I decided that I'm going to take her to the vet if she doesn't eat again. And she didn't! In a fit of desperation (I didn't have all the ingredients for her regular recipe) I made a makeshift meal with some of the stewing beef I had in the freezer and about half the other ingredients from her recipe. And she gobbled it down happily!
Seeing that I decided to try her regular recipe and went to the grocery store. And she just ate that, hella excited about it too.
SO I'm pretty sure I just have a picky eater and I'm hoping that I can get some tips on how to make sure it doesn't get worse. Not eating real food all day really scared the shit out of me. But I've also never had a puppy so I can't tell if my concerns are valid or if dogs just do this sometimes. I'm watching the situation super closely. I have a vet appointment end of the month and I'll ask more questions then but right now I think I just have a picky eaters?
How do I make sure she doesn't get more picky? And what should I be watching for as warning signs to a potential health issues?
She's full of energy, drinking water fine, being her regular crazy 5 month old doggy self.
Anything I'm missing??
-Anxious dog mom
(Thank you in advance)

2024.05.14 00:42 poormandave [Recruiting] Kings #2928J2VRL TH11+ Clan Level 19 Casual/Clan Capital/CWL/Clan Games Independent

We are a large clan that has one open spot to fill. We are active casual, meaning we expect you to actively play the game but we don't care if you aren't a good attacker. We are looking for people who play!
TH11 minimum. Clan war league we are Crystal II, and lower town halls don't have much fun there.
We take clan capital seriously (Titan III, Capital Peak 10) and expect you to make 5-6 attacks each weekend. We kick for not contributing at least 30K clan capital gold every 4 weeks (that's only 7500 / week).
War all the time. Skip wars whenever you want. No problem if you make your attacks and get 0*. Players who attack in regular monthly wars get preferential opportunities in CWL. If you have had 50 opportunities in wars (clan war league wars count double) and aren't at least making 50% of your attacks, you will get kicked.
We totally destroy clan games, easily clearing all reward tiers.
We have good donators so you can usually get whatever you want at high/max levels, especially for wars. No need for a given donation ratio, but donate if you can.
Clan chat is PG-13 or cleaner - my kids play this game! Toxic chat behavior gets you the boot.
Clan chat language is English. Requests not in English are rejected.

2024.05.14 00:23 youareanobody Help, new to canning.

Help, new to canning.
I have this 16 quart canner from 1975. I put a new rubber seal on.
How much water do I need to put in it?
I will be canning greenbeans. I think I let it steam for 5 or 10 mins then put weight to 10 pounds for 20 mins. I am below 1000ft elevation.
And is it different for pint and quart jars?
I may also try canning beef stew/soup. So what time and weight should I use for that.

Finally went back to try the DR tacobell menu
I posted earlier about the DR menu. I finally went back to try some of the ones that I thought was interesting. I got the loaded potato square which was my favorite by far and the beef was generous with jalepenos, chocodilla kitkat blanco was really good surprisingly. Flauta dulce, not all that good but ok only and wouldnt get it again. The campanazo box, meximelt was amazing to me way more than the chicken and rice though chicken and rice was good too. The fries were crispy but nothing special compared to our fries of course. Total price was $13.38 according to my bank transactions. As much as I wanted a corona or Modelo I couldnt.

2024.05.13 23:30 DotBeautiful9517 boomer cooking

This recently made me laugh ,my husband’s parents are boomers and he recently stayed over at their house over night to visit them and he told me they tried to cook a beef stew . My husband said they literally chopped up some random vegetables, got a roast and added some salt and put it in a pot of water to boil and that’s it , he said it was the worst thing they have ever cooked . That’s their idea of a beef stew , my husband told them to add some spices ,beef stock and some flour to thicken it and they acted like they had never heard of such a thing in their entire freaking lives ,my husband showed them so they ended up cooking it twice and they were amazed at how much better it was (which wasn’t all that improved since they f*cked it up so bad to begin with) . How can grown adults in their 60s not know what a stew is ?!?

2024.05.13 22:37 smorreboard I’m looking for teppanyaki restaurants in Tokyo serving high-end, rare, or exclusive beef breeds.

So far, I’ve found the following types of beef and associated restaurants:
Matsusaka, Kobe, Kuroge: New Matsusaka (has a la carte option)
Olive: Teppanyaki Seto (available only part of a set menu)
Miyazaki: Ginza Miyachiku Takeshiba (not possible for me as it requires 2 people)
Tajima: Oniku Karyu (not possible for me as it requires 2 people)
Omi: Which restaurant?
Mishima: Which restaurant?
I am not that familiar with beef breeds or terminology, so forgive any errors. Ideally a restaurant would have multiple beef types with a la carte option as I’m specifically interested in the beef.
Appreciate other options for beef types and suggestions for teppanyaki restaurants.
I’ve had A4 and A5 wagyu in the US and Europe (both as steak and sushi), but do not have or remember any specific breed information.

2024.05.13 21:29 machinade89 Can someone please recommend a good gluten-free beef broth or stock?

I just glutened myself from hidden gluten in this nonsense (like it's not even obvious what it was):

I can't tolerate bone broths, just an FYI. Just a regular beef broth or stock that's gluten-free, please. I would so appreciate it.
Was it the yeast extract? I'm so mad right now. I made a beautiful, slow-cooked beef stew and it made me sick!! 🤬
Edit: I'm in the northeast United States.

2024.05.13 21:18 rootbeerfan69 Looking to improve my beef stew one thing at a time.

Hello. I am just getting into cooking and starting out small.
Currently the dish that I'm working on is a beef stew that is slow cooked.
This is what I currently do with my beef stew.
I take a 1 lb chuck steak with cut up potatoes, carrots, onions, and tomato. Throw it in the slow cooker with beef broth as the liquid. I have it in for about 7 and a half hours. Put it over some white rice and I enjoy.
My question is what is one or two things I can add that doesnt require significant prep time. I only have about 35 mins to prep. And I would prefer to not rush.
I don't want a recipe I just want a few things I can do differently to slowly improve my beef stew.
There is nothing wrong with it currently for me. I love it. However, I know there are improvements to the flavor and maybe something else I'm not even thinking of that can be done.

New spot randomly found in Fredericksburg today! We had beef ribs, brisket, baked beans, coleslaw, and deviled egg potato salad. Sorry, we didn't snap any pictures before digging in.
We just happened to swing by on our road trip and didn't expect it to be this awesome. Even though we got there 1.5 hours before closing, they were already out of chicken quarters, pulled pork, baby back ribs, smoked turkey, pork belly, and smoked crab cakes as a mother's day special. They just opened up the restaurant this February and it's run by a father and son, with cute pictures of their toddler grandson on the walls.
I was impressed by the young owner's passion for his food and the way he greeted guests. You can tell he really loves what he does. Check out their better photos and menu on Google. https://wildwaylonsbbq.com/

2024.05.13 17:12 baby_tonight Latvian relationship with anything related USA

My buddy and I are opening a fast food restaurant in Riga and are thinking of the concept. Our main menu items are from US cuisine and when I suggested to make a restaurant american themed, my Latvian partner notified me that US related concepts are not popular among Latvians.
Is that true? I know people love burgers here (judging from the amount of these restaurants and their popularity), but what's the beef with US culture and etc.?
We obviously are not looking to make it some sort of museum inside.

Ok, so I've been planning the MANY moving parts with my wedding for quite a while now. And, at 1st, when I was planning my menu, I was trying to supply a vegetarian option for every course. But after going over my 35 person guest list, realized it was unnecessary, and just did what we wanted. Now don't get me wrong, I'm pescatarian (which is basically a vegetarian thar eats fish), and at 1 point in the past, was planning on opening a vegan-friendly bar. So please don't leave comments about me not caring or appreciating people's lifestyle choices.
So anyways, my soon to be brother-in-law is officiating the ceremony, and he's been getting serious with the girls he's been dating now for almost a year. Like, he's been holding family dinners at restaurants to "introduce her" to the family (my partner has lots of half/step family from both of his parents getting divorced and remarried). I'm the only one that has seen her somewhat regularly because she is a frequent customer at my place of work and see her in passing at least twice a month (which is more than the rest of the family does). So since my BIL is part of the wedding party, I did a bit of adjusting and am able to add her to the guest list. The problem is....she's vegan. My venue is a German clubhouse with no experience with this, but we're only getting them to partially cater, while we supply the entrées and desserts. The entrées will be be made custom from a local pie shop and frozen for the venue to than reheat with instructions and served. The desserts will be purchased from 2 other bakeries and set up by the venue's servers on the dessert table at the end of the night.
My entrées are suppose to be tourtiere (French Canadian meat pie) and quiche. But the pie shop can't accommodate vegans either. Our dinner is going to be served family-style, so now I'm thinking on changing up the meat pie entrée, so something vegan, and supplying an alternative vegan dressing to my venue to be used for 1 of the sides so that the only thing NOT vegan would be the quiche. For the dessert table, we could easily change up where we're getting half the desserts to have them vegan as well. It's tricky, because 1 of our guests are highly allergic to nuts and A LOT of vegan alternatives are heavily nut-based.
If we did this, we would include menu cards stating which dishes are vegan, for everyone, so that she knows what she can eat without singling her out. As a vegan, would you rather being accommodated like this, and only being able to eat 2/3 of the menu, or would you rather just get your own plated meal that's different from everyone else?
**UPDATE: She's only going to know maybe 6 people there, and only 3 of them well. I don't want to single her out in any way. From my interactions with her, she is very quiet and shy and doesn't want to be a bother to anyone. So if I ask her, I know she will tell me whatever she thinks is the easiest because she doesn't know me very well either. I know that a bunch of my family members aren't big on pork or beef (which is what a tourtiere is made of) and are big fans of eggs, which is why I had the quiche, and that was what I was going to eat as well.
As I have been reading what people are commenting, i'm thinking on maybe having regular sausages (since that's my venue's specialty) and at her section have vegan sausages. The dishes repeat every 4 people, so she will be sitting with her bf and my future in-laws who have been accommodating her already with family dinners. If I do it this way, and swap out the cream-based sauce for tahini sauce with the 1 side, I could just discreetly let my BIL know and it avoids a possibly awkward situation for her. My wedding cake is actually a donut cake, so maybe instead of completely supplying a vegan dessert table, I can have vegan donuts instead so that she can eat those at least.
