I use to think I would be in debt forever, car loan, student loan, mortgage, etc. It seemed like it would never end and I didn't have enough money at the end of the month to pay off the current debt I had. I was stuck, and unless I could increase my current income even more I was going to be paying off the current debt I had for the next 30+ yrs! But I now know how to pay of $309K of debt with my current salary, and not having to change my life style, in only 9 yrs.

2024.05.14 15:06 idontknow0-_-0 Moving out after college for a job advice?

If I have to move to a new city for a job, find a place, and get a car, but I don't have enough money on hand for all of it, what would be the best course of action (especially considering needing to pay for a hotel and uber in the meantime)? It would be my first apartment after college so no rental history or references. I read somewhere that first-time renters can be asked for a larger deposit instead of a cosigner. I wouldn't have enough for 3x rent+, so I thought I could cover the rest with a new 0% APR credit card and pay for it over several months. However, I saw somewhere online that you should apply for a car loan before a new credit card if you need both because the credit card will lower your credit score too much. What is the best way to go about this for someone with no one to ask for help with money?

2024.05.14 15:05 SilentExpressions92 How can I get a lein release on my husband's car?

My husband passed away and so far transferring everything to me has been pretty smooth. I am the surviving spouse, we didn't have kids or previous spouses. The only issue I'm having is his car that has a lein. I am trying to avoid probate or even small assets if I can help it. It was an unexpected death and he had no will. He had 2 other vehicles without leins that I transferred to me no problem.
I can pay off the car, but the loan company said they wouldn't release the lein until I went to court to be an executor. Is that really true? I don't need it to be released to my name or anything, I just need it released. Can they really not release the lein even if I pay it off? I thought about just trying to pay it to see what happens, but I don't want to cause more problems for myself. They already know he's deceased, but I haven't sent them the death certificate yet.

2024.05.14 15:04 RezzleG Wife is irresponsible with spending and took out a horrendous loan a few weeks ago, what do I do?

To preface, she works a minimum wage job and I am the sole earner. My wage is good, but all goes towards household bills and childcare (around £2000 per month) and am able to save an extra 500 per month. I have savings, but not that much
My wife broke down to me this morning and told me she has been having to take out loans and credit cards to fund her spending habits, I genuinely thought she was just good at saving, but apparently not. I never knew she had such a problem and we've been together for years.
She said a few weeks ago she took out a further Natwest Loan for 22k with 23% APR!! I still can't believe she did it. How are they able to offer such a high amount with such a huge amount of APR? It seems criminal! All of this is to refinance her previous loan which apparently had even worse APR, and an additional £850 for spending which she has given to me.
She has credit card debt amounting to £6k on top of this at close to 40% APR I will be paying this off completely out of my savings.
I don't even know where to start with the loan... she told me she's tried stepchange but had already had help from them years ago and because she still has £150 spare income or so a month they can't help her, is the only option to just keep paying it every month and for me to save as much as I can to pay it off as quickly as possible?
I'd appreciate any advice on how we can improve her terrible situation.

2024.05.14 14:59 nsq87 #1305, what now?

#1305, what now?
I’m at Code #1305 on my transcript, the only thing listed is “tax return filed”, with a date listed of 00-00-0000.
I e-filed in early April using TurboTax Home & Business (a physical disc & intuit login on my Mac) (I am SE, and have filed taxes every year since I started working, the same way - I’ve only ever been self employed)… it was challenging because of some weird things going on with TurboTax (a lot of folks had the same issues this year and TurboTax knew about it and eventually fixed the form), I started over once, and certain things were just really stressful.
Anyway, I filed with plenty of time technically (I prefer to be done earlier)… but couldn’t afford to pay it all for 2023. I don’t do estimated, so my entire tax bill comes due each April - I’ve always been able to pay it in full, but this time, I couldn’t. I requested a long-term payment plan (technically 10 months) with automatic bank account withdrawals (from a bank account I’ve only ever used for taxes).
My request was accepted immediately at the amount I requested to pay automatically each month… and I received a letter with instructions to wait for the letter that will confirm the monthly charges, the payment date, and the interest amount/penalties. I expected the first payment to be pulled April 15th, but the IRS still hasn’t taken their money.
I don’t know when it will be withdrawn, and I don’t know why there isn’t any info beyond the code 1305. I also get an error when I try to view payment options.
Are these things normal when my tax return for 2023 has been filed, a payment plan has been approved, and they’re just getting things in order? I’ll be happy when my first payment is pulled and I’m on my way to getting my tax bill beyond me.

2024.05.14 14:57 eshay4lyf my 2016 Holden Cruze Z Series has been written off…

Hi guys, back at the end of march i hit a wombat in my cruze. when i got out of the car and looked at the front myself i thought the exterior wasn’t too bad, the drivers side of my bumper was pretty fucked and the park light had popped out but that was all i could see. i called my dad and asked him to drive behind me while i drove it home (i literally live like a min up the road from where it happened) when we got home he popped the bonnet and checked in there and it was leaking coolant and the radiator was pushed in about an inch.
anyway it’s been 2 months now and has been in the repair centre ever since. i got a letter from vicroads today saying it is a “repairable write off” ? which to my understanding is when the damages could technically be fixed but the cost is more than my car is insured for. my stupid ass mother had a greed value on it that is so significantly under priced it’s stupid. ($8,800, when it should be $10k +)
i just wanted to know if it might be worth disputing the write off and getting it all fixed anyway? or if that’s something i can even do. i dont know anything about cars really but my cruze is my most favourite car ive ever had. and it had only done about 74,000kms too! it sucks it’s been written off and i’ve barley really driven it. :(
stupid fucking wombats.
any advice would be amazing really! even a new holden model to buy would be great! ☺️

2024.05.14 14:56 AsstDepUnderlord A naive review of FSD

So I got my free month of FSD and I have some stuff to say about it.
I'm an upper-middle-class, middle aged dude with a 5 year old model 3 that I love, but at this point in my life I detest driving. I live in a place that has some nasty traffic and a 20 mile drive routinely takes me 75-90 minutes. I should be the easiest person on the planet to sell this to. I didn't go into it with much of an expectation, and I didn't even know it was happening until about a week into the trial period.
I took it for a couple of residential neighborhood jaunts, a couple commutes, and even a longer road trip. (150 miles) I kept it on "chill" for almost all of it. Here's my observations.

2024.05.14 14:46 Financial_Celery6005 Does anyone else feel like they're worth less than their siblings?

Bit of a rant here. I've always known my sister was dad's favorite and my brother mom's. Even some guests who came over once noticed this lol. But today I just realized how deep that goes.
My brother goes to a public uni using the credit hours system, that costs around 2000$ a year. My sister goes to a private uni, which is much more expensive. I asked my dad if I could enroll in the credit hours system when applying for uni, he said it's too expensive!
Another example? He was talking to me about cars and said he could buy me one but I'd have to pay the monthly installments. He just bought my sister a brand new car and didn't ask her for a penny. He did the same for my brother before her.
He told me to save up so I can pay for my army exemption. That's 5000$. He was more than happy to pay for my brother's, why not me?
Asked him to buy me some sunglasses because the sun gets in my eyes whenever we go out. He said I could have his old ones. No more than 2 months later, he bought my brother a 100$ perfume bottle just because he asked for it
My sister asked for some shoes, in comes 130$ for her new pair of shoes. I had to pay for mine myself, even though they were cheaper
My siblings get a monthly allowance of 75$ each. I get half of that.
Am I crazy or do I get less than my siblings? I don't even know how I'll manage to get into med school without applying to the credit hours system :(
Ooooh and a nice piece of advice I've received from my parents: When they found out I was having suicidal thoughts at EIGHT YEARS OLD via looking at my search history they told me to jump off the roof...

2024.05.14 14:44 bFallen Small ER bill sent to collections without ever receiving the bill

I had to go to the ER in October 2023 and had a small bill (few hundred dollars) to pay for the visit.
I never received a billing statement from the hospital, and I tried multiple times in late 2023 to access the hospital's website portal to pay the bill, but was unable to find or create a login. The hospital did not answer my calls.
In December, I did receive a call from a spam-like number that tried to collect on the bill from me, but wanted payment over the phone. Between that and the fact that I never received a bill from the hospital itself, I asked them to send me a written copy of the billing notice before I would act. I never received anything. They called a couple more times but never left a message.
Fast forward to now: the hospital is now telling me that my bill was sent to collections in early/mid March, and gave me a number to call.
I called the collections agency to clear this bill but they could not find any record for me.
I am not sure what to do now:
  1. Is it worth calling the hospital again? In theory I shouldn't be paying them anymore since they sold the bill to the collections agency, right? But they never even sent me a bill in the first place.
  2. How long does it usually take a collections agency to process a bill and contact someone after buying their medical bill? In my case, it's been more than two months...
I could have paid this bill the day I received treatment, so it is really frustrating that I have never received a billing statement and now the debt was sent to a collections agency which also doesn't seem to have it. I want this paid off so it doesn't come back to bite me or anything.
Appreciate any information or advice!

2024.05.14 14:44 Odd-Garbage-7384 Mom and Sister kick off when discussing to sell half the family business.

Hi, I am 32(m) moved in UK to study CS and been working in my field since 2022 after I graduated. I have a sister 29 (f) and my mom is 55 (f). When my dad passed away we inherited the family business. My mother has been running it but in my dad’s will it was to be split between me and my sister.
My mum decided to open her own new business and rented the family one to a third individual. Since I moved to UK, I have been working to support myself through uni and landed a starting job in a decent company after my graduation. Rent in UK is quite expensive especially near metropolitan areas.
Since am not interested in returning to my home country unless it’s for a holiday. I have been trying to discuss with my family to sell the my share of the family business and use half of it as deposit for a house and save the rest for retirement. This is important cause more than 50% of my monthly salary is bills and rent and with the raising in costs of living I have been living pay-check to pay-check. I am single and not really interested in marriage or family. So buying a house would actually cut my expenses in more than half and will allow me both to pursue a better job because i will be able to afford a car which now i can’t.
My mom and my sister kick off and dismiss any discussions, saying that they don’t want to sell, and that i should wait for my sister to buy me out. That they don’t like to sell, that if I want a house I should buy it myself and dismissing any facts I present on how much better it would be in the long term to own a property in the UK.
Everytime i try to give them my POV i am met with negativity, shouting, and irony. Am writting this because I don’t know how to make my family see my point of view. I love both of them and we have been united through thick and thin . I don’t wanna fight them over money but I also want to progress with my life and build an environment am safe and happy in the country am living.
Please help.

2024.05.14 14:42 Legitimate-Sky-6820 The war and when and how it would play out

A really interesting feature we have seen in game released after warthunder is persistent map war. This would be an incredibly interesting feature in a game like warthunder as it could both help keep you in the fight better, and any battle would have some amount of greater impact.
This would also make it way more interesting to play the game as you could with just a single bomb a lot of luck and a ton of determination just go blow up an important factory.
In my opinion this means that a rather incredibly huge map would need to exist with potentially a constant air pressence of ai aircraft to help defend certain areas snd keep players in the game trough being able to take command of such an aircraft and also to with that allow players to get back in the fight way way faster, on the other hand people who just want a lot of reward might prefer to fly for 3 hours taking off with a bomber going to high altitude and maybe joining an ongoing bomber mission, ofc how accurate bombs will be would have to be a really significant discussion point in the early phase of making a executable plan.
Another really interesting potential aspect it balancing gun and cannon spam trough production cost. IMO this is one of the most solid idea's ive had so far, just no longer have any repair cost and instead have all cost of aircraft be dependent on production cost of said aircraft and subsystems. This mains that really advanced planes will cost more if you want to fly it out but as long as you get back on an airfeild or maybe even just as long as it doesnt disintegrate you do not have to pay those cost, or the full cost. In effect it would be rather similar to warthunder exept for the fact that if a certain weapon really pissis you off you can actually do something about it trying to destroy the or a factory on the enemy side that produces it, thus the cost of you plane will depend on the state of the war, tho ofc this would primarily mean that in the case of a shortage of something you just remove that something from your plane, thus allowing you to keep having fun. Even if all you cannon factory's get destroyed you just slap 20 7.7mm guns in your nose and go to town!

2024.05.14 14:42 Seabreeze42069 Is this normal or am I trippin?

I think my sisters gf is trying to put her in debt. My sister has a suv that’s almost paid off and recently her gf has been wanting a car since she doesn’t have one. The gf wants to get a loan to pay off my sisters car and buy it from her and my sister goes to get another car. But to me that seems weird cuz why can’t you get one on your own? Why does my sister need to go into $30k+ debt while you only pay a few grand? Your mom said you can have her car when she gets a new one..

How Compound Interest Works: Formula & How To Calculate
https://preview.redd.it/efe1tebi0e0d1.png?width=800&format=png&auto=webp&s=c5a3934c4617f721fb1873aa6064c5548c0f8d4c
There's a saying, "Money makes money". This idea is the principle behind one of the bank’s most fundamental concepts called "compound interest". It emphasizes that compound interest can propel the growth of an initial amount in the long run.
For anyone trying to understand the basics of personal finance, knowing what is compound interest is essential. Compound interest is one of the most powerful tools at an investor's disposal. This interest is calculated not only on the initial amount invested or loaned but also on the accumulated interest over time. Hence, compound interest doesn’t just grow, it grows exponentially, creating a snowball effect where, as your investment rolls downhill, it becomes larger and larger.
To truly appreciate the power of compound interest, one needs to get familiar with the formula of compound interest. The formula for compound interest is A = P (1 + n) ^ nt. Here, A represents the future value of the investment/loan including interest, P symbolizes the principal investment/loan amount, r denotes annual interest rate (in decimal), n signifies the number of times that interest is compounded per year, and t refers to the time the money is invested or borrowed for, in years.
The true strength of compound interest lies in regularly adding money to your investment over a significant length of time. Let’s take an example. Suppose you deposit $5,000 in a savings account with an annual interest rate of 3% compounded annually, and you leave that money for 20 years without making any additional deposits.
Using the compound interest formula, we plug in the values: P = $5,000, r = 0.03, n = 1 (since it's compounded annually), and t = 20 years.
A = $5,000 (1 + 0.03/1) ^ (1*20) = $5,000 (1 + 0.03) ^ 20 = $5,000 * (1.03)^20 = $9030.22. So, after 20 years, your initial deposit of $5,000 would grow into $9030.22 with compound interest.
But compound interest isn't always working in your favor, especially when it concerns debt. Suppose you have a credit card with an annual interest rate of 18% and you owe $1,000. You decide to make only the minimum payment and carry a balance every month. Just as it helps savings grow, compound interest increases the amount of debt as well. This is why it's recommended to always pay off your credit card balance in full each month and avoid falling into the trap of high, compounding interest rates.
Compound interest is a double-edged sword that can work for you or against you. It's a powerful tool when you're saving or investing, but can be a significant burden if you have debt. Understanding the impact of compound interest is essential for your financial planning. It empowers you to make informed decisions on various issues such as saving for retirement, planning your investments, and managing your debts.
In conclusion, Einstein once referred to compound interest as the “eighth wonder of the world. He who understands it, earns it; he who doesn't, pays it". The ability to understand and apply this concept can differentiate between achieving long-term financial success and struggling to make ends meet. With this fundamental financial tool, anyone can harness the power of money making money.
However, it is also crucial to remember that while the theory behind compound interest is relatively straightforward, factors such as the frequency of compounding, contributions, period of investment, or debt can dramatically affect the final outcome. Hence, it is highly recommended that before making any financial decision, individuals should revisit the compound interest formula, understand its implications, and then plan accordingly.
Compound interest undoubtedly is one of the fundamental pillars of finance. The more adept you become at wielding its potential, the more financially secure you will likely become. Whether you are a seasoned investor, a budding entrepreneur, or a financially prudent individual, recognizing the implications of compound interest in your monetary decisions can make a world of difference.

2024.05.14 14:34 Shadowqueen7 AITA for refusing to be my friend's personal ATM?

I (25F) have this friend, let's call him Mark (27M), who seems to think I'm his personal bank. Recently, things have gotten out of hand, and I'm starting to feel like I'm being taken advantage of.
[STORY]
Mark and I have been friends since college, and for the most part, our friendship has been great. But over the past year or so, Mark's financial situation has taken a nosedive, and he's been leaning on me more and more for money. It started with small things, like borrowing a few bucks for lunch or asking to crash at my place when he couldn't afford rent. I didn't mind helping out occasionally, especially since I knew he was struggling. But then it escalated. Mark began asking for larger and larger sums of money, always with promises to pay me back "soon." He'd come up with sob stories about unexpected expenses or emergencies, and I'd feel guilty if I said no. But as time went on, it became clear that he had no intention of ever paying me back. I tried to talk to him about it, gently reminding him that I wasn't made of money and that I had bills to pay too. But he'd always brush it off, saying he'd pay me back when he got his next paycheck or when his "big break" came through. Spoiler alert: it never did. Things came to a head when Mark asked me for a substantial loan to cover his rent for the month. I hesitated, knowing that I might never see that money again, but he was desperate, so I agreed. Big mistake.
Not only did Mark fail to pay me back yet again, but he also had the audacity to ask for even more money the following month. That's when I put my foot down. I told him that I couldn't continue to enable his irresponsible behavior and that he needed to figure things out on his own for once. Mark was furious, accusing me of being a terrible friend and abandoning him when he needed me most. But I refuse to be his ATM anymore. I've done my best to be supportive, but I have my own financial responsibilities to worry about.
So far he owes me about 24,000 dirhams (we live in UAE)
So, Reddit, AITA for refusing to be my friend's personal ATM? Should I continue to lend him money despite never getting paid back, or am I justified in putting my foot down and prioritizing my own financial well-being?

2024.05.14 14:29 lostlife27 Sometimes it seems like the only way to become financially independent is to become a scammer or “get rich quick guru”.

First off, I hate myself and think I’m a terrible person already, so I don’t care if it makes people hate me more. FFS if you were homeless everyone would hate you just for that, so why wouldn’t you want to go a route as such just to win and stop being a victim and away from all the a holes and the evils of the world. People get r word and k word out there. (Reddit doesn’t like these words, but they’re not hard to figure out what they are).
Also, what many people consider a scam is sometimes technically legal. Like “how to get rich doing this” courses. As long as you disclaim that results aren’t guaranteed, and that you’re just teaching ways that COULD make you rich, you’re committing no crime. In fact you might even help people. College is just as much as a scam as that, because degrees “don’t guarantee jobs”, and many people now they there are TOO MANY degrees, so I guess there are more college graduates than there are jobs available.
I’m so fed up with looking up ways to make money online and every result being a get rich quick guru, so maybe that IS the way, telling other people how to (POSSIBLY) get rich.
It’s like the entire system is broken, capitalism/supply and demand, by design there HAS to be people in poverty, and SO MANY jobs REFUSE to pay a living wage (I even read about a grocery store that chose to close down instead of raising pay by $4 more an hour, so instead of paying employees more, they chose to stop making money completely, wtfh?
It seems like all these great promising opportunities come out but then they get over saturated, like GME and crypto and NFTs, they all seem pretty dead now.
Society respects rich frauds more than humble people struggling to survive anyway. And I rather be DEAD than homeless or in prison, or any type of isolation/imprisonment, even if the police rescue you you’re just going to end up homeless anyway, there are reasons victims of abuse stay and don’t leave.
AI is making life easier AND MORE FAIR, but people aren’t willing to pay as much if at all for something that they can themselves tell AI to do for little to no cost.
I’m gonna be SO GLAD when self driving cars make human driving illegal, I’ll VOTE FOR IT, then I can never be stranded or disqualified purely because I can’t safely and steady control a death machine surrounded by other death machines with police constantly watching to ruin your life even if you didn’t ruin anyone else’s life.
I’ll never understand how most people work better jobs for years and years (although supposedly most people DO experience getting fired at least once, maybe that’s normal now) with all the psychological tricks and gaslighting and secret languages and communications they use to test you, and all the awkward focus on things that aren’t really that important.
But just in general despite all these it’s BS you’re not allowed to make more than a set amount per hour, AND not allowed to work either less, OR MORE hours than you want or need. Having to work more than 40 hours is kind of BS, but it’s also BS to not be able to GET 40 hours.
And lose your job lose your health insurance and then have to go into massive debt until your credit card is cut off and you go into withdrawal from 4+ meds and then end up in the ER with even more debt and the police might kill you and they send people to prison to be annually rapped it’s part of the prison punishment system.
But yeah people with the best ideas succeed average barely survive and disadvantaged suffer and die.
They’re never going to let me out of this because they know I’ll sue them and get millions and THEY’LL go to prison and get annually rapped. If that’s what’s really going on, it would explain A LOT.
But idk how tf you be financially successful in modern day USA. All the opportunities for the untalented are quickly oversaturated and the market lose interest. I guess everyone just stuck wage slaving until the next thing? Maybe some have secret methods they’re not sharing but most probably have nothing but the wage slaving until the next opportunity is created and released and they HOPEFULLY catch it before it takes off.
Like this “go to a job and do meaningless bs for less than a living wage” can’t be the only way the masses can access.
I stopped even writing fanfiction or anything really creative for enjoyment because im too worried about money. My parents want to retire in a few years and im already 28 now.
They’re now telling me I should look into applying for disability to supplement my job, solidifying I’m a failure.
I don’t want to be a victim of my circumstances anymore, I lost most of my life already, my parents even told me that I’m getting “up in age”, all that “you’re young you have time”was worthless BS for me, the time passed and I’ve barely been able to progress.
I rather be a con artist than a bum and/or a mooch off the taxpayers and/or be homeless, I rather be DEAD than those things.
I don’t understand why life is so hard, but it has become clear to me that it’s all a contest, and many must lose and suffer for less to win and succeed and thrive.
I just want to be able to generate income remotely and be left the hell alone from society, even without being homeless I rather be away from society, be left alone.
Most jobs don’t really benefit or attribute to society anyway.
There has to be something I can create that goes viral and somehow has advertising/marketing opportunities…….
But even if I did it’d probably be very cynical reflecting myself, but much of media is and people love it.
Hmm, I’m honestly kind of waiting for AI to do more like generating VIDEO and editing and all that. But then everyone else will be using it and over saturating the market the likes history has never seen, it will be completely unprecedented.
But AI allows more people to create without all the technical requirements getting in the way.
Nobody even understands what the hell I’m saying. I swear I really am on a different dimensional plane of existence.

2024.05.14 14:29 SweetHomeAvocado UPDATE: I hate the mornings when I commute (I no longer hate them!)

Hi all. I made a post about three weeks ago about how much I hated the mornings when I commute. It wasn’t the most popular post but I got such good advice from you all and I can’t believe how much things have changed in such a short time. I remember writing that post feeling like my nerves were completely shot and I was defeated, and I now sit on my train feeling like a sane, supported woman. So I figured I’d write an update on what changed.
(Original post here: https://www.reddit.com/workingmoms/s/w6HPZTCopq).
First: I talked to my husband. You all told me he needed to step up and I was a little resistant because we’ve come so far as a couple and through therapy and yada yada. But you were right. I think I had gone so far into therapy territory that I tried not to address it in the moment when I felt angry and heated but instead discuss it at a neutral time away from the heat of the moment. Generally speaking these are good tactics but I just woke up one morning and knew I hadn’t prepped lunches and really didn’t want to get up at 5am when he could just do it and I could sleep later if I didn’t have to worry about everything. So I just turned to him and said “I didn’t make lunches. Can you just do it and be in charge of getting them ready today?” And guess what? He said sure, and did it.
Second: Star chart FTW! This was not a suggestion from this sub but it’s a game changer. My kids were fighting every step of the getting ready process. However, my oldest responds well to bribery and this has been a happy upgrade from swinging between a battle of toddler wills (you’ll never win, ladies) and desperate bribery. She’s now an active participant in getting ready and looks forward to picking her prize every week. She’s in pre-k, so it’s great she’s taking this responsibility for herself. And tho my youngest doesn’t quite understand the chart, she copies everything the oldest does. (My oldest never used to give us a hard time about getting ready until recently, but I’d start this even earlier than pre-k if needed, tbh).
Third: I did my equivalent of “just leave”. Another big suggestion from you all was to just leave for work and let my husband get the kids out on his own. I couldn’t exactly do this, because we only have one car and he drives us all. However, I decided to let us go at his pace instead of taking on the roll of timekeeper. I had a bit of an anomaly in my schedule that let me take the later train, so I missed my train. Turns out he prefers to get us out early so he can exercise before work. Now that he knows that ’ll go in later and it’s on him if he wants his time, he’s more aware.
Fourth and final: another piece of advice from you all. I chilled out a little. Missing my train made me realize taking the next train now and again is not that big of a deal. I can work on the train and as long as I don’t have an early meeting, I can find ways to make up that time as long as it’s the exception not the rule. And I realized that I was bugging out about needing to be at the train 5-10 min early. It may be my preference but I’m still making my train and in return I get more peace from the family which is a good trade off. I also no longer give a shit if I leave the house with beds unmade and dishes in the sink. We’re functioning and that’s what matters.
So in summary, I basically stopped acting like the world would fall apart if I didn’t do everything and put more responsibility on my husband and kid and now everyone is happier.
Thanks, Moms!

2024.05.14 14:28 Terrorvision67 My Summer DLC thoughts

Michael comes into Franklins office and your character finally meets him. Michael is running the movie studio now and it seems all of his movies are being released ahead of time on illegal streaming services and it turns out you have to hunt down "the tech genius" that was introduced in the Clucking Bell Raid that has the Terrorbyte.
Once you track him down after a few missions, it goes deeper. The tech genius is working for Isiah Friedlander, who was reintroduced to GTA through the Drug Wars and Michael's former shrink. Once Friedlander is killed, there is information that he was not the final boss... and was working for Martin Madrazo, who still is pissed at Michael for the events of GTA Story Mode.
The final mission is to take out Madrazo in a scarface style setting where Martin is holed up in his mansion and you blast your way through his minions until you take him out.
Michael and Franklin pull up after it is over. Michael says this place has brought me nothing but misery and Franklin says I got it covered as a plane flys by carpet bombing the Madrazo property. Over the radio, it is revealed that the voice is Trevor as the pilot and after a short exchange between Michael and Trevor, the plane disappears heading back to Sandy Shores. All the loose ends are tied up with our 3 main protagonists.
Payment would be $2,500,000. The first time you complete it, R* would give you the option to take the money now or bank it into your social club for a future GTA game we all know about that I cannot type in here or the post instantly gets locked.
This would give those who complete the DLC the chance at a head start with a decent property, car and some weapons. If you complete it multiple times, that money drops down to $1.500,000 and goes directly into your GTA 5 Online bank account.
Like Franklins agency, Michael has a handful of side missions all paying 40-60k.
Take out the gang that is harassing the movie location.
Save a kidnapped actoactress.
Find the van that has the final print of a new movie.
Ok. Thats it. As you can tell, I would like to see closure for the story mode characters getting the band back together before they all ride off into the sunset. I cannot see the winter DLC, if there even is one, to be that great with the new game coming soon.
Like, hate, ignore or discuss below :)

2024.05.14 14:26 AffectionateAuthor96 Trying to find a job in nyc but noone is hiring?

Hi I'm 25f I have a job working in a gym, but it doesn't pay alot. I am trying to apply to jobs, my family keeps giving me a hard time with going back to school to pursue a different kind of career. I can't do that since I'm trying my hardest to pay off my loans. I am unable to afford to go into more debt than I already am I can barely afford food and clothes. My job says they pay us "too much" I don't think $300 a week is alot of money especially when it all goes to bills for school. I'm left with $18 by the time it's Friday. I have baking experience from school but I have to get a nyc food safety license, which is my current goal to get into a bakery. The jobs I apply too never get back to me even when I call them they aren't actually hiring. There's ghost listings on their job sites to make it seem like they're hiring. I still apply to then because you never know but I haven't gotten anything. I just need a decent paying job to get myself out of debt so I can move on to the next step. Everyone keeps saying the world is all mine but I can't even get a job but I have years of experience in many locations that I've been with for a year or more.

2024.05.14 14:23 Tacoma_navi_guy Any information helps

I think I missed up. I don't know. Here's my situation.
I was in a T bone accident that took them a week to figure out with very minimal communication. Almost none on the insurance part.
I had 0% liability so it was all on the other driver. My car is now be deemed totaled and I'm getting screwed as I didn't have gap.
I'm now being offered the lowest value of my car which leaves me with a portion of a loan, no car, and in a crappy situation.
I feel like acting in good faith they should at least pay the 10 day pay off of the vehicle and allow me to start from ground 0, instead of being in the negatives.
Is there anything I can do ? Any advice? I'm not giving up this rental vehicle until we come to a solid conclusion, hoping they don't want to continue to pay for thr rental and decide to meet me at a good amount. Help!!!! 😔

2024.05.14 14:13 LMDM5 Knoxville Housing aka Lack Thereof-

On Feb. 9, 2022, I officially became "Homeless" on state record and applied for rent and housing assistance in Knoxville through KCDC/Section 8.
Per today's date:
Zeitraum = 825 days aka 27.123 months. This is exactly the length of time I've been surviving homeless.
It wasn't until THIS YEAR that my name "officially" has gone from being on their "PRE-waiting list": aka the long-ass waiting list you're on BEFORE graduating to the "OFFICIAL" waiting list.
*Btw, no one informed me of this being their process. I waited for many hopeful months while living out of my car, waiting to be called that I contacted them to get the news of only being on the PRE-waiting list- List. Good shit...
So, I decided to visit KCDC in-person last week to speak to them about my still pending status and ask if there were any actions I could take to help my chances of having a place to call home...
FYI: The Broadway location is ONLY for applying to any of their listed complexes. Unfortunately, ALL their waiting lists are also completely full.
*The Harriet Tubman location is for applying or relating to receiving vouchers for financial rental assistance.
FYI: you can ONLY APPLY for a voucher between their generous hours of 8AM-3PM only on the 2nd WED of each month, just fyi for any new applicants.
All I was told at each location was to "continue waiting" and that I would one day be contacted whenever my name came up.
The housing costs in Knoxville, especially have risen quickly dramatically even since when I very first began applying and they'll continue this trend.
**BTW, they're SHUTTING DOWN our Homeless Shelter on Broadway due to a LACK OF FUNDING (good timing), so yet another option we can all cross off our lists of any places to lie our heads down at night.
Pretty ironic that TN is the FREAKING VOLUNTEER STATE, considering... "GO VOLS", am I right??
See news link here: https://www.wate.com/news/knox-county-news/the-foyer-a-low-barrier-knoxville-homeless-shelter-set-to-close-as-officials-seek-new-operato
Oh yeah, HOMELESSNESS IN TN is also now a CLASS E FELONY!
*You are automatically disqualified from receiving public assistance such as Section 8 and SNAP benefits unless you've fully paid off ALL FEES (up to $3,000 for being homeless) and have fully completed your probation period! *KEEPING THINGS REALLY CLASSY, TN! 😜 (Also, you can't sleep in your vehicle at any rest stops, either. Also illegal. You can sit there in your car for only 3hrs max.)
"In Tennessee, felonies are classified from A to E, with Class A being the most serious and Class E being the least severe. A Class E felony in Tennessee is the lowest level of felony. It includes offenses such as theft of property valued at $1,000 to $2,500, certain driving offenses like third or subsequent DUI offenses, stalking, and forgery. The typical punishments for Class E felonies in Tennessee include: 1. One to six years of imprisonment (PRISON TIME, not jail), and/or 2. Fines up to $3,000. (Also, just pointing out that with any Class E felonies, being the "least" serious felony, if any fines for the offense are deemed as "unspecified" in their books, they then have the capability to charge an offender up to $50,000.)
However, these punishments can vary based on a variety of factors such as the exact nature of the crime, whether or not the defendant has a prior criminal record, and other relevant factors considered by the court." See specifics here: https://codes.findlaw.com/tn/title-40-criminal-procedure/tn-code-sect-40-35-111/
Covertly, they've named this abomination as the:
"Equal Access to Public Property Act of 2012.” Makes it sound so helpful and positive for us, doesn't it? Thanks, guys! LOL!
See below what all is covered, including: **If they happen to search and find any of your stored belongings (likely being at times literally their entire life's possessions, including if they find you've stored your food somewhere) the police will immediately confiscate it, and then you will have a total of 90 days to go to them and claim all your belongings or else they'll consider it as "abandoned property". You must detail exactly where on the property that they found your items, so that they then will slap you with a Class E Felony, charge you a "holding fee" for whatever amount of time they "stored" it for you, also stating that "the court shall include an order of restitution for any property damage or loss incurred as a result" of you or your belongings being present on the state property. But hey, at least you get your items back!

My Story: (if you've made it this far and give any shits about hearing it for the sake of context.)
Around 1 year-deep into the COVID-19 pandemic, I had been living in an expensive house centered in the North Knox Historic District, working FT at a job I'd spent the past few yrs diligently climbing their ladder, and splitting the house payment with my then, Fiancee of 5 1/2 yrs. He began dating a different girl, had moved her into our house, while stating that "If I didn't stop being depressed, he was going to kick me out". Unfortunately, the house had been put solely in his name when bought. You see, my grandmother had just passed from COVID-19, my childhood best friend had just passed away, and I had been informed suddenly that my 84yrs-old dementia-ridden Father was getting worse and also nearing his last days. Not long after, my older sister contacted me acting upset, stating that he now needed to be on continual watch for FT care, so I packed my things, left my fiancee and my then home and moved in to care for my late father. Eventually, I had to leave my job to fulfill my caretaking duties but I don't regret being there for my father but it grew to be very difficult times, as it was for many those yrs. Dad passed away Jan. 31, 2022. My mother immediately inherited the house at his death, per their messy divorce agreement many yrs before. She so graciously left no time after me literally watching him take his very last breath in the bedroom down the hall from my own for her to serve me immediate eviction papers, now forcing me to leave the home that I grew up with my father in, while being raised. This house, I had only 1 year previous, agreed to my mother and sister when they had requested this of me, quit my long-term, FT job, losing all my sources of income in order to live with and solitary care for my father. (Everyone else- meaning my mother and 3 sisters -were all "too busy" to help me out or give even short breaks. I'm informing you of this, so that anyone that ever says to themselves, "why don't they just go live with family", can comprehend how that's not an actual option for everyone, so when the systems are failing, ppl aren't always on the streets or living out of their cars bc of drug problems or laziness or whatever other common misconceptions I've heard from ppl that are limited in grasping these situations for others. That last month that he was still alive, they all "forbade" me from leaving the house at all nor having any visitors "for his health", despite my deep despair from watching his health ferociously decline, resulting in my very rapidly declining mental health and massive weight-loss and over-exhaustion. Upon receiving my eviction notice, I then immediately began applying for Section 8 assistance. I had no one left and nowhere to go. It's like this for a lot of people. Don't assume ppl always have any other options available, is my point of giving so much backstory. Not exactly trying to "victimize" myself here for pity. I'm strong, I've got this. Just trying to get some points across for when you judge another's situation that you don't know.
Ok, here's the last I'll say about all this. Just humor me and try to consider what I'm pointing out here.
Every single one of us local TN natives have seen through the years how various homeless individuals will bravely step into some of our favorite local diners, gas stations, retail stores, etc. Them, asking employees permissions for maybe utilizing a restroom, some cold water or a drink, often after them walking around most the day (shelter kicks everyone out once it's morning), often after being in our unforgiving weather or high temps. Sometimes, they're asking even for a small bite to eat or leftovers from the kitchen. SO MANY times throughout the years, we've all been standing by, as we witness some enraged employee or the manager angrily decline, followed with often loud threats of calling the cops on them, etc in an attempt to motivate them to not come back asking later, as now they see how many of their annoyed paying customers are actively shaking their heads and shaming their whole interaction with rotten looks of disgust.
I mean after all, our businesses ABSOLUTELY can't be taking any risks of "losing their dedicated customers, just BC some "lazy bums" keep showing up, "always asking for free handouts" and "scaring away our business".
Really, it's best to just not give them anything in the 1st place cus ya know, just like strays, they'll "just keep showing back up"...
Right?
Excluding sometimes a random kind individual's exception, for the most part this mindset I'm highlighting here has most often worked as an sorta unspoken "Golden Rule" when we're relating to how we'll decidedly "handle" our large and growing homeless population.
Now that our housing prices have fully skyrocketed, with increases markedly on the rise almost immediately after the COVID-19 Pandemic that left so many of us without income that was supporting our access to necessities. Many, many "middle-class" individuals who were previously working averaging their 5 days/week (ty past labor strikes enforcing our allowance of 2 days off) and living comfortably on their 40hrs/week paychecks are currently struggling to find availability and also afford even a 1br ran-down apartment in our "lower-class" neighborhoods. Most are now working multiple jobs trying to keep up, and childcare isn't offered for free, so it keeps everyone from having opportunities to not only spend time raising their children vs random strangers who are also overworked, but how can you save money when you're losing part of what you earn, just to be able to go to work and not be fully abandoning your children to fend for themselves if left home alone?
Often, homeless ppl can be seen all throughout our city, and guaranteed to be growing in mass numbers when inching closer toward that underpass leading up to the Historic Gay St./Downtown/UT campus/Cumberland Strip. *It's really fairly ironic I've thought, how so much of our income has always been made/spent here, however we're required each time, to first drive through the huge crowd of terribly unfortunate ppl left standing without their bare necessities, often left to sleep outside the packed shelter when it hits capacity, which is always a guarantee. They're not left outside strictly bc they're "on drugs", like a lot have been led to believe.
Lastly, but oh of such an amazing relevance-
**Here's some realism surrounding our cultures' universally pre-conceived (disconnected/egotistical and mis-informed), accepted stigma that states the following phrase:
"These ppl just won't get a job bc they're SO LAZY and just want to live off all us hard-working American's tax dollars...blah blah blah.." Employers won't hire if you don't have an address and the shelters fail to deliver anyone's incoming mail, nor do businesses want to hire a homeless person showing up without proper hygiene or attire or any kind of criminal record. Also, transportation is a bitch. KAT bus costs money, and is very limited on its area services. By walking such lengthy distances, not only can your safety be at risk (especially for Females or any shifts beginning or letting out after dark) but you're gonna be super sweaty and gross by the time you actually arrive to then work a full shift, if you can even somehow make it on time every day by walking for hours before and then after every single shift that you show for.
This isn't any kinda "new" issue for the poor, btw. Don't be such heartless fools, making someone else's situation about "you".
Life's realities can forcibly humble an individual, catching us off-guard for what we'll often end up facing. Always count your blessings and never assume you know anything about anyone else's struggles or how they got there. We're all just trying to survive in this place.
Thanks for reading and hopefully this info helps bring insight to whomever reads this. Good luck out there, I mean it. We got this. ❤️

2024.05.14 14:12 Mediocre-Bus4123 Cant get a job as a graphic designer and im considering to not apply anymore due to hitting my limit over 5 years

I cant get anywhere in this world.
I'm trying everything I can to get a job. Everyone gives advice that cancels each other out. Everything is too Objective.
At this point, i dont believe my portfolio, resume, or linkedin matters in the scheme of trying to get a job when i see other designers using ai and people who make low quality work to get paid a huge amount of money. Im tired that everything is networking when no one wants to help me, i try to ask for mentorship; ghosted, i try to get help with asking about job opportunities and ghosted. Ghosted is the constant theme i run into in my life.
The only friends i have in this life is the friends I have in fallout new vegas. No one cares about my suffering in this world.
I try to learn about stocks. its too much to consider while basically being poor and broke. Having no car and no driver's license and people just have no empathy of my situation. No money period. Honestly my debt is easy to pay off if i got any job. But i cant even get a job at a local dollar general that gets robbed 24/7 or a grocery store nearby. Not even the Coney island is hiring, im just a failure.
i just need a win.... i just want to win... i am in the most desperate spot in my life.
plus im worried intensely about my sister, i dont want her to pass away from anything. i just want to get a job and make sure she has everything she needs.

2024.05.14 14:11 Mkyhhd U.S. bans Russian uranium imports

Joselow, Maxine. The Washington Post; Washington, D.C.. 14 May 2024: A.18.

Move aimed at punishing Moscow and boosting domestic nuclear sector
President Biden on Monday evening signed a bipartisan bill prohibiting Russian imports of enriched uranium, the main fuel used by nuclear power plants, a move intended to cut off one of the last significant flows of money from the United States to Russia amid the war in Ukraine.
Congress took swift action to ban Russian oil and gas imports a month after the February 2022 invasion of Ukraine. But sanctions on uranium imports have taken much longer, in part because Russia supplies roughly 20 percent of U.S. nuclear fuel, leading some lawmakers to fear disruptions to the nation's 93 nuclear reactors.
"It's kind of ridiculous that it took as long as it did to get to this stage," said Scott Melbye, executive vice president of mining company Uranium Energy and president of the Uranium Producers of America, a trade group. "But we're just glad that we got here."
American companies pay around $1 billion a year for enriched uranium from Rosatom, Russia's state nuclear power conglomerate. These payments have continued even after documents revealed last year that Rosatom had been working to supply the Russian arms industry with components, technology and raw materials for missile fuel.
The bipartisan bill will ban uranium imports from Moscow beginning 90 days after its enactment. It will provide waivers until 2028 for utilities that would be forced to shut down nuclear reactors once Russian supplies are cut off. The bill also frees up $2.7 billion passed in previous legislation to build out the domestic uranium processing industry.
"This new law reestablishes America's leadership in the nuclear sector," national security adviser Jake Sullivan said in a statement Monday. "It will help secure our energy sector for generations to come."
The bill passed the House in December, but it had stalled for months in the Senate, where Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) had blocked the measure over unrelated disputes. In a development that surprised some observers, Cruz dropped his opposition last month, and the measure then passed the Senate by unanimous consent, meaning no senators objected to it.
"Russia's chokehold on America's uranium supply is coming to an end," Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), a bill sponsor, said on the Senate floor on Wednesday. "[Russian President Vladimir] Putin's war machine has now lost one of its cash cows. America is finally starting to take back our nuclear energy security as well as our energy future."
Officials at the Energy Department and the National Security Council had discussed the possibility of taking executive action to ban Russian uranium imports if Congress did not act, Bloomberg News reported.
Biden has set an ambitious goal of reaching 100 percent clean electricity by 2035. Nuclear reactors generate more than half of emissions-free electricity in the United States, and supporters say they can play a key role in the country's transition away from fossil fuels.
Yet the U.S. nuclear power industry has recently faced financial challenges, including spiraling costs of the new modular designs it is testing. Those difficulties may continue even after companies are no longer reliant on imported uranium.
The United States' dependence on Russian uranium dates back to a 1993 nuclear disarmament program soon after the Cold War ended. Under the program, dubbed Megatons to Megawatts, the United States bought 500 metric tons of uranium from dismantled Russian nuclear warheads and converted it to nuclear reactor fuel.
At the time, many policymakers in Washington hailed the deal as a win-win: Moscow got desperately needed cash in exchange for giving U.S. utilities cheap fuel and placating arms-control advocates. But today, some experts say the program had the unintended consequence of delivering such inexpensive Russian fuel that U.S. and European companies struggled to compete.
More than two years after Russia invaded Ukraine, the United States largely lacks its own uranium enrichment capacity. The nuclear energy company TerraPower, which was founded by Bill Gates, has been forced to delay the opening of a new nuclear plant by at least two years, in part because it has pledged not to use Russian enriched uranium.
The new legislation could help. It unlocks $2.7 billion in funding for domestic uranium enrichment that Congress conditionally approved in a spending bill last year.
The funding could allow the company Centrus to expand its enrichment facility in Ohio with "thousands of additional centrifuges to replace Russian imports with American production," spokeswoman Lindsey Geisler said in an email.
Jeff Navin, director of external affairs for TerraPower, which has signed an agreement with Centrus to collaborate on fueling its Natrium reactor in Wyoming, said in an email that the funding is "expected to spur job creation, technological advancement and boost the U.S. nuclear industry's global competitiveness."
In August, Biden established a new national monument near the Grand Canyon, putting the site off-limits to future uranium mining. The move did not affect an existing uranium mine owned by Energy Fuels, which recently ramped up work as growing demand and global instability pushed uranium prices higher.
Though some environmentalists support nuclear power, others say there are cheaper options and have voiced concerns that the country lacks a long-term plan for storage of nuclear waste. Still others have warned that radioactive dust from uranium mining could contaminate the drinking water of nearby communities.
Asked about these concerns, Curtis Moore, senior vice president of marketing and corporate development at Energy Fuels, said modern environmental regulations have made uranium mining much safer over the last half-century. He said the company's mine near the Grand Canyon poses "zero" risk to water supplies.
"To oppose modern uranium mining is akin to opposing electric vehicles today because cars in the '50s didn't have seat belts," Moore said. "It's really shortsighted. Uranium is absolutely essential to the fight against climate change."
