Is it better to quit or be fired?

2024.05.14 19:11 Past_Being_3069 Is it better to quit or be fired?

Hello everyone! I am a first year 7th grade English teacher in Virginia, and I need advice. Basically, I have messed up catastrophically, and my termination is imminent. I have not done anything to physically harm anyone but others have been fired for much less in my county. Whenever the other shoe drops (it’s probably too late in the year for an immediate termination but I’m sure it’s coming), is it better to quit or be fired? What are the pros and cons to each? Which looks better for future employment? Or will they simply choose to not renew my contract? Any advice would be helpful! Thank you!

The Strategic Imperative for North American Uranium Production

As global energy demands shift towards cleaner and more sustainable sources, the importance of bolstering North American uranium production is increasingly evident. Domestic production not only ensures energy security by reducing reliance on imports—which accounted for over 90% of U.S. uranium needs in recent years—but also supports the nuclear energy sector critical for achieving carbon neutrality. Enhancing local production capabilities can mitigate the risks associated with geopolitical tensions and supply disruptions, especially as the global market tightens with the nuclear sector's expected growth.
● Reduces reliance on imports, which recently covered over 90% of U.S. uranium needs.
● Aids the maintenance and growth of nuclear infrastructure essential for clean energy targets.

2024.05.14 19:07 CaxapHiyDiabet55479 I need help... Maybe?

Hey guys, I know this is a serious topic, but it's fucking bothering me. The problem is that if I come across any, even the most insignificant nonsense, the first thing that comes to mind is a gallows or a car that will run over me in half. My thoughts of suicide visit me too often, it scares me, but at the same time I have no idea what to do and how to deal with it. Soon, next year, I'm going to the ninth grade and I'm afraid that iqn the 9th grade, I'll still commit suicide because I can't cope with anything. I went to a psychotherapist, I was diagnosed with depression, increased anxiety. The depression itself is higher than average in degree of strength. Yes, I take antidepressants, but sometimes even they don't help. Can you recommend something? I just really don't know what to do....

Hey all! Back again for the first non-Cosmere book in this podcast.
We've just released episode 4 of the Grain of Sanderson podcast, where we foolishly attempt to read through all of Sanderson's published material in publication order (yes including everything non-cosmere). This month we read Alcatraz Versus the Evil Librarians, Brandon Sanderson’s first in a series of middle grade books. Come listen to us talk about trading card games, make fun of Harry Potter, and using fun childhood powers for acts of incredible violence.
The podcast is very spoiler heavy for Alcatraz vs the Evil Librarians, and includes minor spoilers for Mistborn 1 and 2.
Description of the Podcast: From the fantasy epics of the Cosmere to the defunct mobile game companion books, Graham, Jack, and Taylor attempt to read every published work by Brandon Sanderson, in publication order. We hope to gain a better understanding of who he is as an author, how his writing changes over time, and his broader effect on the fantasy genre. Starting with Elantris and finishing half a decade from now, please join us as we travel out of the wardrobe, and onto the wagon train.
Next month we’ll be reading the final book in Mistborn era 1, the Hero of Ages.

2024.05.14 19:00 SimplyTilted How should I get an accounting job given my strange situation?

Thank you to everyone in this sub that looked at my resume and gave me feedback. After reading through the replies I think I need to take a step back. Fixing my resume may not be as important as getting a plan together given my situation. Here is a quick outline of my journey over the last few years. How do you think I should get my first accounting job?
I went to Auburn University pursuing a degree in Business Administration. I was curious about becoming an Actuary so I took a couple intro level courses and realized I did not like all of the theory. I was recommended accounting by a professor and decided to start specializing in that. Classes were easy and I was enjoying the work.
In my junior year of college a friend approached me with a business idea. This company, IGNTE, ended up being very successful. So successful that I spent more time in my senior year working on IGNTE than my degree. I continued to get good grades but stopped planning for an accounting job entirely. My senior year, I presented IGNTE in a Shark Tank like competition that is a big deal in the college of business. IGNTE won first place!
Once I graduated, I moved to working on the company full time. I got a part time job at Dunkin' Donuts to help fund the business which allowed us to scale quickly. Last year we were approached by someone who wanted to purchased the ad management portion of our company. The amount was more than myself or the other co-founder was expecting but certainly not enough to retire on.
There was downtime while the business was being sold so I made a game using Chat GPT and Unity. I have becoming pretty familiar with C# but don't want to get into CS. I just like making stuff.
My plan in college was to become an accountant and now I need to get back onto that plan. I would like to become a CPA but am open to any and every suggestion.
Thank you for any help!

2024.05.14 18:48 NoLeg9483 7 year old is mocking classmate and teammate with cerebral palsy. What can I do to stop this?

My 7 year old has a classmate (same grade different class) who also plays in a few local sports teams who has cerebral palsy.
They have gone to school together and played on the same rec soccer team and tball/baseball league for 2 years now. At first he had lots of question as this boy was likely the first differently able child he’s been around. I felt nothing out of the ordinary. I explained that everyone is born different and differently abled. And how it’s great we can included him in sports and most school activities. He also has an uncle with ASD and an uncle with MS, one being mentally differently able and one being physically. So I tried to draw parallels there.
Last year we got a note from a teacher my son was mocking him and poking fun of him with other kids, we talked about how mean it was to act like that, and I had him write a letter apologizing to the parents and the boy. The parents were great and understanding. I thought maybe this was behind us.
This year he is playing against him in soccer and baseball and my son was very irritated that he got special treatment and was allowed to make kicks with out any defense around and how in baseball they let him run the bases and hit off the tee with out being out.
Last night his baseball coach catches him in the dugout mocking him and making fun of him with other kids. my son orchestrated and started it. They sat him out the rest of the game, and when his dad and I got home we were extremely displeased and let him know that and we sent him straight to bed.
My husband wants to pull him from baseball for the rest of the season. We just don’t get it, our son is held accountable, gets a lot of positive reinforcement and attention. He helps and is so sweet with his baby cousins and has never made a comment about his uncles and thier different abilities. We don’t bully or make comments about anyone’s bodies or differences .
Is there anything else we should do? Is my kid just an asshole??? The thought of my son being a bully makes me sick.

2024.05.14 18:47 No-Kaleidoscope-4050 I don’t think my dream career is realistic

I am currently a senior in high school who will be starting college this fall. My dream is to become an oral surgeon. However I am not sure that dream is possible for someone like me.
First of all I am not even sure I am academically ready for college. My freshman year of high school I was very immature it was also COVID year so I wasn’t able to pick my classes. I was put into classes like ROTC and Band that I hated and I failed the classes on purpose because I hated them. I was purposely not doing the work and not studying for tests because I hated the class and I knew if I failed the class the counselor wouldn’t put me in the class again. My sophomore year I had the option to take honors and AP classes but at the time I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life so I stuck with regular classes. My sophomore year I hadn’t matured. I started skipping school not listening in class and not doing work at all.
My sophomore year I failed all of my classes except for one. At the end of my sophomore year my GPA was a 1.5. I had to retake those classes in summer school and I had so many classes to retake that I had to retake some of them during my junior year alongside my junior courses. My junior year I improved a bit. I didn’t have the option to take any advanced courses my junior year as I had already failed a bunch of regular courses my sophomore year so I obviously wasn’t prepared.
My junior year is when I had a moment of realization that if I wanted to go to college I would have to do better in my classes. I had also heard about this program called dual enrollment where you could leave school early or come to school late to take classes on a college campus. I grinded my junior year for the first time during high school. However my mental health got really bad during my junior year which lead to me skipping school again. By the time my dual enrollment meeting came my grades met the requirement for the program but my GPA had been ruined by my sophomore year. My counselor tried to make an agreement with the college to allow me to still be in the program but they weren’t having it so I was rejected from dual enrollment.
My senior year I enrolled in an online high school program. I decided to take two advanced courses those being Honors Chemistry and AP government. I ended up passing both courses with A’s. But sometimes I wonder is that because they were online or am I truly smart when I actually try?
I am just worried that once I get to college I am going to have a reality check that my dream of becoming an oral surgeon isn’t possible. I am majoring in one of the harder subjects that major being biochemistry. I have only taken two advanced courses one of those courses not even being related to my major. Majority of people who want to become dentists have taken full schedules of college level courses before actually going to college. I have only taken two college courses.
Dental school is very competitive. There are much smarter people than me also pursuing Predental and honestly I don’t see myself standing a chance against them. I don’t see myself doing anything besides being a dentist I don’t know what career I would pursue besides dentistry. But if my dream is unrealistic I will eventually have to choose a different career path.

2024.05.14 18:43 Yurii_S_Kh A Parish Priest’s Conversation in the Cemetery on Radonitsa

A Parish Priest’s Conversation in the Cemetery on Radonitsa
Before I came to the faith, I didn’t like going to the cemetery. What’s more, the cemetery always reminded me of my mortality, and it made me sad. Since I didn’t see life as eternal, it seemed sad to live on earth.
https://preview.redd.it/5iqk8wg87f0d1.png?width=700&format=png&auto=webp&s=ca4ed8cb5d2d2add69e831459d6614da6d532d23
What should I live for? In order to die? It’s all pointless. Willy-nilly you arrive at the idea of evolution here. Man appeared on earth as a result of positive mutations and eventually we began to have consciousness, conscience and reason. Sometimes you clutch your head, saying, “Why did I become a human being? Who needed all these mutations if I will just be buried in the ground or turn into a pathetic handful of ashes?” With such ideas, the old saying seemed justified: “Take everything from life before the worms eat you.”
The awareness of the fact that you are a mold from an eternal Image justifies your existence and gives it meaning. And the thought of your inevitable meeting with the Creator makes you take your life seriously. The purpose is revealed to you: He loves you, and you are a child of His love.
And you think: “How good!” It was only after I came to the faith that the cemetery ceased to be an eerie place for me and turned into a “repository of completed narratives.”
Our cemetery beyond the village in the heart of the forest is divided into the smaller, old one, which appeared in the seventeenth century, and the new and larger one. Do you know how our village cemetery differs from urban ones—apart from its size? I served the funeral for almost everyone who is buried in the new cemetery. I made the “last entry” in the destiny of almost every person buried here. I pray for them and remember many of them. Besides, even before my ordination I had lived and worked with these people for many years. And I know that their life in eternity depends on my prayer in some way. Our bond with them was not severed by their demise. Spiritual care does not stop even beyond the grave.
The Church year, with its memorial Ancestors’ Saturdays and especially the Paschal services, does not allow us to forget those who have already departed this life. And visiting people’s graves on Radonitsa always is always a special, joyful event for me. I go to the cemetery as if to visit my friends—those whom I came to love during their earthly lives and with whom I prayed and restored the church—my brothers and sisters.
One day I had a dream just before going to serve on Ancestors’ Saturday. It was as if I had died, my soul had flown away, and I could even see my own body from outside it. And I was so upset and sorry that I could not say goodbye to anyone, hug my children and kiss my wife. And my soul began to cry from anguish.
Suddenly a thought flashed through my mind: “Today is Ancestors’ Saturday! How many people will come to church now, but there will be no service! Where will another priest come from?” And my soul, accustomed to responsibility, immediately returned to my body. I woke up and was relieved that it had all just been a dream. But then I remembered forever how my soul had wept after leaving the body. From that day on I began to feel compassion for the deceased while performing the funeral over them.

I am greeted first by Alexei at the entrance to the new cemetery. I learned a lot from that man and in many ways, would like to be like him. He knew how to live and had a great desire to live. But for all his buoyancy, illness taught Alexei to be patient and to humble himself. He was dying for several years, but every time after the unction he got better and continued to come to church every Sunday and receive Communion. And he passed away on the feast of the Ascension of the Lord.
The last thing Alexei said to me—and I managed to give him Communion—was:
“Thank you, Father. Thanks for everything!”
Christ is Risen, Alexei!
The well-groomed grave of the child Sashenka [a diminutive form of the name Alexander.—Trans.] is very close. He received Communion almost at every Sunday Liturgy. He drowned in Feodosia the day before he was supposed to start going to the first grade. His father Nikolai, a simple worker, could not save the child. After that, through hard labor he earned a sufficient sum of money for us to pay for the work of icon-painters. Three large icons of the Deesis in the St. Nicholas Chapel of our church are his sacrifice in memory of his son.
One day, after his death, the boy came to his father in a dream and said:
“Papa, I’ve been to many places, but I like St. Alexander Svirsky’s monastery the most.”
Christ is Risen, dear child! Pray for us there.
Irina. Irochka, I still can’t come to terms with the fact that you’ve been here for six years already. You shouldn’t have died, especially at such a young age. You are our beauty! I will never forget it—after I had given you Divine Unction and Communion, you took my hand in yours, already translucent from illness, and, kissing it, said:
“Now I’m not afraid of anything. Thank you.”
I hope you were not offended that I almost forced your husband away from your grave. You know, I started to fear for him. The dead cling to the dead, and the living cling to the living, as it were. Christ is Risen, our joy!
* * *
Sophia, I’ll tell you honestly: no one bakes pancakes the way you baked them. Do you think I’m joking? No, in all seriousness. The schoolchildren who cleaned the church with us and then ate your pancakes with tea have already grown up. Now some of them have their own children, but every time they come, they recall how much they enjoyed your delicious pancakes!
https://preview.redd.it/bki5kxkh7f0d1.png?width=300&format=png&auto=webp&s=61aec1e80b6e09ef4450f1558ea47353e17ba303
What hard times we had! Now we have both a refectory and a parish house (with two floors), but back then we didn’t have anything. I still wonder how you always managed to cope with everything. Christ is Risen, our wise woman!
Praskovyushka [a diminutive form of the name Parasceva.—Trans.]! My angel who selflessly helped me in the altar. Today is Radonitsa and the eighth anniversary of your birth into eternity. You read by syllables, but you taught me so much! My friend, I am grateful to God that He brought me together with you.
Pray for me, mother, so that someday I too can reach the measure of your simplicity and learn to hope and trust in God the way you did. Of course, you know that your youngest daughter gave up drinking and came to the church, that she prays and often takes Communion. Today she is almost never out of the church, as was the case with you. So, both your daughters are in the church.
Your prayer does its job, and even after your death it does not lose its power. You cried your eyes out for your daughter. The time came, and she told me herself, “That’s it, Father, there there’s no turning back.” What a wise woman you are! Praskovyushka, Christ is Risen!
And here rests my old acquaintance, Vasily Ivanovich. In his old age a strange thing happened to him: he fell in love like a teenager. He started writing love poetry, but he was ashamed to reveal it to anyone. But he trusted me. He would come to the entrance of my house, sit down on a bench and wait for me to see him and come out. Then he would take out his notebook, and his “sonnets” would start flowing. How many times I invited you to the church, my friend! You kept promising, but... never came. Christ is Risen, Vasily!
Then the tombstones of rich people begin. There are three tombstones here, behind an imposing metal fence. That’s right, it’s a family of three people. Petrovich, an entrepreneur, a good man who drank. He didn’t give sufficient attention to his son who was hooked on drugs. No matter how much they tried to cure him it was all in vain. After the young man’s death, Petrovich’s wife took to drinking too, as if she had decided to die. They lived beside the church. Their house had once been built on church land. It was a big, beautiful “mansion” in which you could live for many years.
One day Petrovich came to our church while I was racking my brains over the problem of where to find money for a new roof. I desperately needed to have our winter church reroofed. A piece broke off from the destroyed bell-tower and pierced the roof in several places. And we had just plastered the walls inside, putting so much effort into it.
There was no one in the church except Petrovich and me. I went up to him and greeted him. I saw that he was having a very hard time. And who would be feeling otherwise after losing his only son? I addressed him:
“Petrovich, do a good deed in memory of Kostya [a diminutive form of the name Konstantin.—Trans.]. Do you see how the roof was broken by bricks from the bell-tower? Help us redo it as long as there is no rain so far. You’re a wealthy man, help me. I will also ask the parishioners—and we will do it all together. I’m afraid we’ll ruin the plaster inside after the rain starts.”
Petrovich was silent for a little while. His face was so kind, he really was a nice chap. Then he said:
“You know, father, I’ve been thinking about how I’m going to live now, after my only son’s death. And I’ve decided that now I will live only for myself. So, please don’t take it amiss, but look for other sponsors.”
And indeed, Petrovich started to live for himself: he bought a new car, had a holiday abroad, and began to dress well. And then Petrovich disappeared—we couldn’t find him for a whole week. One afternoon as I was walking to the church, a boy of about ten caught up with me:
“Father, go and see what it is! I keep looking and I can’t figure it out.”
I went with him, and he brought me to the back of Petrovich’s house, where there was a huge puddle. I looked where the boy was pointing and saw something like a swollen sugar bag floating in the puddle. But it didn’t seem to be a bag—it resembled a man. We called the police, and Petrovich’s daughter-in-law pulled him out of the puddle.
She said she saw a bullet hole in his forehead. But no one investigated it then.
I performed the funeral for him in the courtyard of our church. And three months later his wife passed away. Their “big mansion” stands empty.
Christ is risen, Petrovich! Don’t think that I bear a grudge against you. After you refused, another man came and offered his help—he took the church reroofing on himself. This is how things work with God—if not you, then someone else. You already know that. Poor Petrovich, nobody remembers you, but I don’t forget you.

How many years have I served at the grave of a young mother’s child on Radonitsa. She crossed a pedestrian crossing in Moscow when the traffic light was green. But a jeep suddenly appeared, knocking the child down. There must have been a tiny news report about you that day. As I understand it, the jeep driver was acquitted. But it doesn’t matter now whether he was acquitted or not. A momentary incident, but the mother’s mental distress has not abated for four years, she is sick at heart, and she still wears black.
How accustomed we are to these news reports: Someone has perished here, someone else has been killed in an explosion there, a plane crashed somewhere, etc. But all this means someone’s pain, tears, broken hearts, and orphaned children.
Mother, Christ is risen, don’t cry and start praying for your girl. Help her, while you have some strength.
There is a large marble slab with a portrait of a young man. Yuri worked at one of his father’s gas stations. About ten years ago, some drug addicts murdered him at work at night. I remember his mother weeping in church. We have a custom: If people make a contribution to the church in memory of their reposed loved one, order an icon, buy a candle stand or something like that, then we add the name of the person in question into our list for permanent commemoration.
I offered the same to Yuri’s close ones. On hearing this, his mother stopped crying. She came up to me and said quietly:
“Father, only don’t tell my husband. I’m afraid he won’t understand you.”
It was only then that it dawned on me: If he left his son alone to work at the gas station at night without security, he really wouldn’t understand me. His family does not set foot in church anymore.
Yuri, your closest ones betrayed you. But forgive them; You know, we don’t choose our parents. But I’m still wondering: How will they look into your eyes when you meet them in eternity?
Nobody comes to your grave on Radonitsa, but I remember you, your placidness, and sometimes pray for you. But forget them all. Christ is Risen, Yuri—you and I will rejoice together.
At the exit I met one of our believers from Moscow, who had buried her mother right around Pascha a year before.
“Earlier I couldn’t go to the cemetery—I felt uneasy here. But now I can sit here next to my mother’s grave, talk to her, and I feel so good—I don’t want to go away,” she said.
And we, Galochka, don’t “go away”. It only seems to us that the departed are somewhere far away from us, but in reality they are close, in our hearts, in our memory and our prayers. After all, and of course, you know it yourself, love (if we have it) does not disappear, even after death.

2024.05.14 18:41 CorridorChick Does vitamin B12 become less effective over time in cats with GI lymphoma?

Some history: Our cat (12 or 13, f, neutered, methimazole for hyperthyroidism) began showing signs of some diarrhea, not eating weight loss just after Thanksgiving. After seeing her primary vet in early January, FortiFlora and Metronidazole were tried for diarrhea. Neither worked, nor does FortiFlora pro, and stool had become almost all liquid by early Feb. Blood work had also showed elevated heart enzymes. Ultrasound at the end of February showed HCM and a cecal mass, so she was referred to a specialty clinic.
Surgery to remove rhe mass on 3/19 confirmed high grade lymphoma. After meeting with an oncologist on 4/18, my husband and I decided on palliative care through primary vet.
She has been receiving weekly B12 injections and subcutaneous fluids since 4/19. Psyllium fiber was added, as was prednisolone. The steroid was twice a day for first week and once a day since.
B12 and steroid has been helping with vomiting until recently (diarrhea has never been able.to be controlled). I know that prednisolone as palliative care will only work for so long. My question is, as stated in the title, does vitamin B12 also lose its effectiveness over time?
(Over the past couple.of days we have been seeing less eating, though our cat has always been a picky eater, and part of me hopes she has decided she doesn't like what we've been feeding her. She'll still eat Churu and baby food.)

2024.05.14 18:41 Budget-Solution-8650 "We'll solve it in post" they said - keyframes help needed

Hi everyone, thanks in advance those who will try to help me:
I am working on the color grading of a project that was handed to me, theoretically very simple: a music video, voice and double bass, a single long take shot with a Fujifilm XH2 in an empty venue with a couple of spotlights, one warm and one blue (imagine the classic club/disco light). A very amateurish project in terms of photography, but the Fujifilm file seems great to work with.
The problem is that the genius who shot this video left the white balance on automatic. When they delivered it to me, I wanted to cry.
The blue light aimed at the subject's head (practically burning their hair) and the warm light behind her have created total chaos. The photography isn't so terrible to look at, but adjusting it is a nightmare due to the continuous drastic temp changes and color shifts. In certain parts, every 3 frames, the scopes go crazy, spiking into the reds.
I worked on it frame by frame (a total of 483 cuts and about 20 hours of work), trying to fix it as much as possible using the Parade.
The result is acceptable in the sense that there are no more abrupt jumps from one frame to another, but there is still a substantial color shift between different parts of the video, especially when it transitions from one close-up to another (remember, it's a single take).
And this is where you come in. I would like to understand the best way to use keyframes to balance the colors through video, working BEFORE the nodes I created for correcting the various clips to be sure of not clipping anything. The problem is that keyframes do not work in Group nodes, while Timeline nodes (as far as I understand) act AFTER the clip nodes.
I hope I was clear, English is not my first language. I appreciate any kind of help, thank you!

2024.05.14 18:37 CardiologistOld6711 NYS pay grade chart ?

Where can I find the NYS pay chart? I tried googling it but I cannot seem to find it. Or should I just ask the Hr recruiter.
Also, when you start a state job at a pay grade, can you still negotiate the final pay?
Idk this my first time working for the state. Lol

2024.05.14 18:37 yellopumpkin Is anyone here religious?

First of all, I want to say I respect everyone and I think we all have the right to believe in what we want.
But I absolutely cannot wrap my head around the concept of religion, of believing in something that’s not provable. I was raised catholic, we never went to church that often, but I did Sunday school till 8th grade and even got my confirmation. However I never believed any of it and was just doing it because I thought I had to.
I find comfort in knowing there isn’t a bigger meaning to life, and we’re just here for the same reason trees or bugs are here, simply existing. I don’t understand what could be fulfilling about devoting your life to some gods or something, to be judged by an all seeing being.
I’m not even going to talk about those who use their faith as an excuse to discriminate others, that’s a whole other story.
But if my only purpose is to exist until I don’t, that’s okay with me.

2024.05.14 18:36 ok_kitty69 At what point do you ask when an assignment will be graded?

I handed in an assignment (essay) three weeks ago, and a quiz for the same class a little over 2 weeks ago - neither have been graded. Our program is entirely remote and there are no specific dates for handing in assignments.
I am ready to complete the next paper but would like to see the grade and feedback for my previous one first.
At what point is it reasonable to send an email asking when they will be graded?

2024.05.14 18:36 phdthrowaway1718 What happens if an undergraduate college application is found to be incomplete (honest mistake) years after someone graduated with their degree? Does it get revoked?

Hey everyone,
Well, I have a very odd concern (even though I'm a Ph.D student at the moment). I've recently been going through a lot of my records for an upcoming internship and I'm worried I may have only sent the transcript from the last high school I graduated from in this case, rather than all of them.
For some context, I initially "attended" (this will be in quotes for a reason) the public high school in the area. I was only there for 3 days that consisted of no classes at all. Rather, it was an orientation of sorts so the would-be freshmen could get used to the high school, rules, and its layout. I never completed any classes that year (I did a summer gym class to get early high school credit and that shows up on a transcript) before my parents found a high school in a pinch.
The following high school I only attended for a quarter of the year (before I moved onto the final high school I would graduate from 3.75 years down the road). I got my old high transcript recently just in case it was necessary for future employment and I see my grades under the first quarter were listed as "NA" in this case. My guess is they probably treated it like how colleges transfer grades (where previous institution grades don't count towards GPA). No big deal on its own.
The only thing I'm concerned about is whether I submitted the old transcript from the high school where I attended for a quarter to my undergraduate colleges at all. Folks can probably tell by this post that I'm an extremely anxious person so I let my parents handle applications and paperwork (since both of those give me the most anxiety). This non ironically makes more anxious as an adult since I never knew what I took out in loans in undergrad until I applied to graduate school and had to consider my debt totals and whatnot (feel free to see one of my older posts where I list all of my neurodivergent, mental, and recent sleep apnea diagnosis).
I am also worried about what could happen if those grades from that high school I attended for a quarter of the year were uncharacteristically low at all. Long story short, that high school I attended for a quarter had what my father aptly described as "monitored home school" and I abused the retake system they had in place by not doing well on my first attempt, memorizing the answers they reused, and retaking it again. I wonder sometimes if they picked up on that and my grades were knocked down at all.
What could happen if this mistake is the case at all? What could happen to my degrees up until this point since I'm now in a Ph.D program? Could my undergraduate degree (and subsequent graduate degrees) be revoked over this at all?

2024.05.14 18:21 No-Kaleidoscope-4050 I didn’t have a real Highschool experience

Freshman year of Highschool I had made a lot of friends. I was in ROTC,marching band and symphonic band. This was the only year of high school I had a decent experience. Sophomore year majority of the friends I had made freshman year were taking advanced AP and Honors classes. I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life so I just continued to take regular classes. I became friends with the wrong group of kids. These kids convinced me to start smoking weed and start skipping school. I was never doing my schoolwork so after my sophomore year I had to retake all of my core classes that summer because I had failed every single core class. I had failed so many classes I wasn’t even able to retake them all in that summer and I ended up having to retake some of the classes first semester of junior year. Junior year it got worse. I started skipping school more frequently I was smoking weed and doing edibles I even tried Xanax and opioids at some point. I was constantly getting in school suspension and detention.
I had quit both marching band and ROTC by my Junior year. I became very depressed due to bullying and hopelessness. Started hurting myself and had to go to a mental hospital. By senior year I am actually doing a lot better. For the first time in Highschool I got a 4.0 GPA and I am no longer depressed. However I am in an online high school program my graduation is this month and honestly I don’t even feel proud about it.
I didn’t have a real high school experience. I never went to any homecoming dance. I wasn’t able to go to prom as I had been suspended too many times and my grades were too low. I wasn’t able to go to prom my senior year because the online Highschool program I am in doesn’t offer a prom. I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life during Highschool so I never joined any sort of career related clubs. I did have friends during Highschool but these were the same people that convinced me to start doing drugs and skip school which only added to my bad mental health. It’s obvious those friends didn’t care a bit about me. The few good friends I did have ghosted me.
It just sucks seeing all the people I used to go to high school with posting their senior year experience. They go on field trips, go to proms, volunteer work, award ceremonies, etc. I wasn’t able to do any of that because I decided to go to an online Highschool my senior year. I mean my mental health and grades are better now but I sacrificed my social life for this so was it really worth it?
I just wish I would’ve been a better student during Highschool. I wish I wouldn’t have ever done drugs or smoked weed. I wish I would’ve actually tried in my classes. I wish I would’ve taken harder classes so I could’ve gone to my dream school. I wish I would’ve had more extracurricular activities. I wish I would’ve participated in more events at school. I just wish I could redo Highschool to make it more memorable.
If I have kids one day and they ask about my high school experience what am I going to tell them? I was a failing stoner. I just get sad thinking about Highschool I had so many opportunities to do better during high school but I didn’t.
