How to Pick the Right Air Purifier. Things to consider

Consider the Pollutants You Want to Target:

  • Allergens: Look for a purifier with a True HEPA filter, which captures particles as small as 0.3 microns, including dust, pollen, and pet dander.
  • Smoke and odors: Opt for a purifier with an activated carbon filter, which tackles smoke, cooking smells, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
  • Bacteria and viruses: Some purifiers use UV light or plasma ionization to kill airborne pathogens. However, their effectiveness and safety for long-term use are debated. Consider these features supplemental, not a replacement for true HEPA filtration.
Choose the Right Size for Your Space:

  • Air purifier capacity is measured in Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR). Higher CADR indicates faster air cleaning in a larger room.
  • The Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) certifies CADR for smoke, dust, and pollen. Look for a CADR rating that covers your room size for the target pollutants.
  • A general rule: Choose a CADR at least 2/3 the square footage of the room. For example, a 300 CADR purifier is suitable for a 150 sq. ft. room.
Think About Noise Level and Energy Efficiency:

  • Air purifiers run continuously, so noise level is important. Look for models with decibel (dB) ratings that suit your preferences. Lower dB indicates quieter operation.
  • Energy Star certified purifiers use less energy, saving you money on electricity bills.
Additional Features to Consider:

  • Replacement filter costs: Factor in the cost and frequency of filter replacements. True HEPA filters typically need replacing every 6-12 months.
  • Smart features: Some purifiers offer Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing control through apps for scheduling, filter monitoring, and air quality checks.
  • Auto mode: This feature automatically adjusts fan speed based on air quality sensor readings.

What are the Benefits of Using Air Purifiers

Breathing clean air is essential for maintaining good health, and air purifiers offer a powerful tool to improve the quality of the air you breathe indoors. Here are some key benefits you can experience by using an air purifier:

  • Improved Respiratory Health: Air purifiers significantly reduce airborne pollutants like dust, pollen, pet dander, and smoke. This can be especially beneficial for people suffering from allergies, asthma, or other respiratory issues. By removing these irritants, air purifiers can ease congestion, coughing, and difficulty breathing, allowing you to breathe easier and experience improved overall respiratory health.
  • Reduced Allergens and Dust: If you struggle with seasonal allergies or dust sensitivity, air purifiers can be a game-changer. HEPA filters effectively capture allergens as small as 0.3 microns, including pollen, dust mites, and pet dander. This can significantly reduce allergy symptoms like itchy eyes, runny nose, and sneezing, leading to a more comfortable and allergy-free living environment.
  • Relief from Pet Dander and Smoke: Pet dander is a common allergen for many people, and air purifiers with HEPA filters can effectively remove it from the air. This can alleviate allergy symptoms triggered by pets and improve overall indoor air quality for pet owners and non-pet owners alike. Additionally, air purifiers with activated carbon filters can help reduce smoke particles and odors, providing relief for those living in areas with wildfires or those exposed to secondhand smoke.
  • Improved Sleep Quality: Clean air plays a vital role in getting a good night's sleep. Allergens and pollutants can disrupt sleep patterns by causing congestion, coughing, and difficulty breathing. Air purifiers can help by removing these irritants, creating a cleaner and more comfortable sleeping environment. This can lead to deeper, more restful sleep, leaving you feeling more energized and refreshed in the morning.
  • Reduced Risk of Airborne Illnesses: While air purifiers cannot eliminate viruses and bacteria entirely, some models with additional features like UV light or plasma ionization may help reduce their spread. Combined with other measures like proper ventilation and hygiene, air purifiers can contribute to a healthier indoor environment by potentially reducing the risk of airborne illnesses.

2024.05.14 18:49 McManGuy Guide for Preventing Elevation Glitches When Moving a World Over to the Ashlands Patch

It's common for non-Ashlands biomes that were connected to the border of the Ashlands biome to have vastly different elevations in the new update, resulting in stuff floating in the sky above the land or sea. (rocks, ancient roots, trees, etc.). This also happens up near the Deep North biome.
The simple solution is to make a fresh new world after the new Ashlands patch. And if you never visited the Ashlands in your old world, you're also likely safe.
But if you ever traveled close to the Ashlands, you'll get this glitch. You can prevent this with the Upgrade World Mod. But it's quite the process.

Part 1: Make a world backup

The game automatically makes backup files, but just to be safe, you want to manually create your own backups.
Your Valheim world consists of 2 files with these extentions:
  • *****.db
  • *****.fwl
In fact, I suggest you include the backups of your backup, too:
  • *****.db.old
  • *****.fwl.old
Actually, it's not a bad idea to make a backup copy of the entire save folder, just in case.
Now, it's best to be working with Local Saves rather than with Cloud Saves. By default, the game uses cloud saves. Your save file location might be different depending on which save method you had employed.
This is the Valheim local save file location:
  • C:\Users\*****\AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim\worlds_local
The AppData folder is normally hidden. So here's another way to find the AppData folder:
  1. Windows Key + R
  2. type in appdata.
  3. Navigate Appdata > LocalLow > Irongate > Valheim

Part 2: Staying Pre-Ashlands

In order to prevent elevation errors, you must perform these fixes before loading up the world with the Ashlands Patch downloaded. To do this, Go to your Steam Library and set your game to the previous patch:
  1. Steam Library > right-click Valheim > Properties > Betas
  2. change "Beta Participation" from "None" to "default_preal"

Part 3: Console setup

Now you need to enable the developer console
  1. Steam Library > right-click Valheim > Properties > General
  2. Find the Text field in the Launch Options section under where it says "Advanced users may choose to enter modifications to their launch options"
  3. In this text field, type -console
You can now open the Developer Console by pressing F5 while in the game world.

Part 4: Mod Installation

You need to install the BepInEx Pack. Followed by the Upgrade World Mod.
I recommend either installing these mods manually or using the r2modman manager (Source)
(DO NOT use the Overwolf / Thunderstore mod manager - it has video ads that ruin performance)

Part 5: Finally doing something

Now we're finally ready to get started.
Be sure to make a new character for this test and do not use your actual character. Then, Load up your Valheim world.
Open the console with F5 and make sure you have the following developer commands active:
  • devcommands
  • god
  • fly
This just makes things easier for later on.
Now we want to reset the Ashlands. The command for this is:
  • zones_reset biomes=AshLands force
The "force" part of that command forces any player bases in the biome to be destroyed without a trace. If you do not do this, the zones around the base will not be reset by the mod.

Part 6: Fixing Problem Spots

This is where trial and error begins. You'll have to travel back and forth between the Ashlands update and the previous patch
  1. Save another backup of your world file.
  2. Change your Beta selection back to "None"
  3. Load up the game and fly around in god mode, checking to see if everything is fine
  4. Write down the coordinates of any problem areas that you find.
  5. Restore your backup world file
  6. Reset the problem spot (see below)
  7. Repeat Steps 1-6 until done.
For Step 6, you'll need to use more targeted resets, limited by max distance. There are 2 ways to do this: by raw position (in meters) or by zone. (a zone is a 64x64 chunk of the map)
  • zones_reset pos= max=
  • zones_reset zone= max=
pos sets a center position and max sets how far out it goes.
zone sets a center position and changes max to set how many zones away the reset can reach.
Example:
  • zones_reset pos=-3700,-7200 max=350
This resets a small area on my map that was giving me problems.
  • zones_reset zone=-58,-113 max=6
This more or less does the same thing, but goes by zones. Notice that the max needs to be smaller since zones are a 64x64m area.

If there are any player bases in the affected zones, the mod will skip them. To force the mod to delete the player base, add force at the end of your reset command, like we did in Part 5

Side Note: The Reset Area shape

It is unclear to me whether this "max" distance is actually a "radius" for a circle. I think it might just create a square around the center point. So, for example:
  • zones_reset pos=0,0 max=100
If it was a square, this would make a 200x200m square with these corner locations:

-100, 100 100, 100
-100,-100 100,-100
A circle dictated by a radius wouldn't include those.
I have no idea if it is a square or if it is a circle. All I know is that I've had unpredictable and strange results when using a very large radius.

2024.05.14 18:34 husker3in4 Best YT channels/videos for NAS setup and use (for complete beginners) HELP ME PLS

Hey all, I need a storage solution, I have external drives for my data overload, but I want something always on and always connected to my computer. I don't quite understand how a NAS works or all the cool things it can do, but what I do like, from what I'm reading, is that the NAS can provide parity protection if I choose SHR during setup, right? I will use 4 disks, in one of the 4 bay NAS from Synology.
The other thing: I want the NAS to show up in my File Explorer (Windows 10), like the whole NAS. I keep seeing people talk about their home folder, and that you can map your home folder to your File Explorer, but I want to see the whole NAS on my File Explorer, so I can click it like another drive, and drag and drop files to the main NAS or into my home folder.
BTW, this is strictly for home use, just myself on it. Given that knowledge, what is the difference between putting folders on the main directory of the NAS vs into my home folder? Is there some security or performance advantage or disadvantage to one or the other? I think I understand the purpose of the home folder, is to keep several users files separated and private from each other, but again, it will just be me on the NAS. I had my son set up Plex on my PC, and I am reading this is something that can run on the NAS as well, so I might do that too if I can figure it out. Other than that, I just need to transfer files back and forth to the NAS via File Explorer, sometimes files that are 10 or 20gb in size. I admit I'm a data hoarder so if this NAS can work in this way, I'd likely set up different folders for all of my data overflow that won't fit on my computer's internal drives.
I understand how Windows 10 works as a home user but I'm a complete newbie to networking and NAS, and get confused pretty quickly when I start reading about all the advanced options and even get lost watching videos about all the millions of settings, security etc. Who do you recommend for YT videos explaining how it works, easy way to set it up and run for home use, single user etc?
I looked at the Space Rex guy already. I don't know if It's how he presents the information or what but I can't follow him very well. The one thing I got from SpaceRex is that is he way smarter than I am, and he offers a service to set it up but for $300 an hour! If I were to find someone who could do it for a much more reasonable price, is that wise, or am I asking for trouble? The movie War Games from the 80s keeps flashing thru my mind, when they find the original programmer who snuck in thru a "backdoor" left in the system in case he needed to get back in....

2024.05.14 18:12 pet_mini Battlefront 2 Not saving any game settings or character cards.

I have a problem that every time I start the game I have no saved settings (keybinds, cards, skins). When I looked in the files where I have the game installed, I couldn't find the settings folder. In the past I deleted the folder because the game wouldn't start which helped and the folder was recreated after that. Now I returned to the game again, I installed the game, but the folder is nowhere, every time I turn on the game, I have to set everything up again. I read on the internet that it could be fixed via cloud saves origin. But now the origin no longer exists. so I would like to ask if anyone knows how to fix it or if it is not possible to create the folder manually?

2024.05.14 17:44 ZookeepergameFar5227 Hey there wanderers! If you're doing a modded playthrough like me and forgot to set your steam to offline and needed the previous or even further version of the game then I have just the solution for you.

(RE-ROLL TO PREVIOUS VERSION OF FALLOUT/ANY GAME)

Really wanted to make one of these posts myself because everyone keeps over complicating things on all the threads I searched trying to figure this out. I think this method works for any game on steam not sure though. Anyways!
Open these links and keep the SteamDB tab open. Download depotdownloader and extract it into its own folder.
DepotDownloader: https://github.com/SteamRE/DepotDownloade
SteamDB: https://steamdb.info/
Now go to SteamDB and search for the game you're looking for, in our case its Fallout 4, and then select the depots tab towards the bottom left. Depending on what update you need to re-roll to, the size can vary so it could take you a bit to download or it could be done within seconds so keep that in mind.
There's usually three Depot numbers that get updated the most for a lot of games but I can't say for certain I just know thats the case for Skyrim and Fallout. If you look in the update history tab you'll notice which one's they are from the changelogs. As I said earlier the update size can vary because two of of them are content files, one small and one large, then there's one for the .exe.
Now knowing that info, you're going to want to copy the depot number(s) you need downloaded and paste somewhere, and go into manifests and copy the manifest id that corresponds to the version you need based on what time it was updated and keep that pasted somewhere. You'll need to open your browser and get to the store page of the game on steams site, then copy the six digit code in the search bar at the top. For me I just needed to revert the .exe back by one update so I clicked on 377162 in SteamDB and copied the manifest id under the most recently updated one.
Afterwards open that folder you extracted DepotDownloader into earlier and click on "File" at the top left and open Windows Powershell as admin. Type "./" and press the tab key until you find .\DepotDownloader.exe and type this out "-app (Seach Bar #) -depot (Depot #) -manifest (Manifest Id) -username (Steam Username) -password (Steam Password)"
Here's what my first three looked like. -app 377160 -depot 377162 -manifest 3747866029627240371 then enter and let it do its thing.
You should be all good to go after that. If you're having issues let me know i'll try to respond. I hope this helped!

2024.05.14 17:26 LeekAggravating345 Hacked / Compromised Account Got Banned

A year ago, somone got access to my account and changed the credentials on it (password, email, id). Last week I finally retrieved the account because I was scrolling through the pictures folder and saw the date on the screenshot of my screen when I first played valorant. I recovered my account using the details that I have (username, email that I used to create my account, account creation date, dob, and other extra details that needed to be filled up).
When I opened the account I saw that the account is "Permanently Suspended due to repeated disruptive communications". I looked up the account on tracker.gg and I saw that the person who hacked it was playing on it. So I sent a ticket to support to see if they can lift the ban because the account was compromised during the time of ban and the damages done to the account was not of my doing.
After explaining the situation to the ticket description, riot replied with: I have re-check your chat logs and I can see some negative attitudes in the game. I'm sorry to tell you that if the ban becomes warranted, the ban will remain.
I didn't have access to the account during the ban hence I asked for an investigation on it but they just keep responding the same thing over and over again.
I'm wondering what should I do? I've done the things that the people advised me to do yet support refuses to investigate my account. It's been very tiring for me to keep explaining the same thing over and over again. Is there anyone who can help with this situation that I have? Anything that I should say or do for them to investigate and verify that my account was banned DURING compromisation?
TL;DR - Someone hacked into my account, played with it, and got it banned. Asked riot for investigation to get the ba lifted but refuses to do so.

2024.05.14 17:15 Adventurous-Ad-2201 PS2 Games not Parsing/Showing Up

I've used emudeck for a bit now. I have over a hundred games on my steam machine but now new games add won't show up. Its a bit more than that. I put the games into the folder where the rest are and go into the Steam Rom Manager. I click the PS2 emulator to add them, press parse and let it load. It load from 30 seconds to 20 minutes. Then when its done it shows a blank dark gray screen. I've done what I've seen others do and I reset the config but it didn't change anything. I've also uninstalled and reinstalled the PS2 emulator with no help. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello all. I cannot run prototype on steam without the game crashing when I try to load a save or start a whole new game. Through some research I’ve found out that this is a fundamental issue with the game of PC. I’ve heard something about if I create a batch file, drop it into my game folder and run the game through that file rather than steam it should work. But it didn’t work lol please for the love of Alex Mercer and all his badassness HELP ME FIGURE THIS OUT!!!

2024.05.14 16:59 utopologist Game crashes after character creation

Hi there, I was playing the game successfully late last year (with some mods), but I had uninstalled it and deleted all of the game folders. I reinstalled yesterday to play again and, as the title says, I haven't been able to get past the character creation screen. There are no mods now. If I try Presets, I can pick between Mutated and True Kin but then if I pick a preset on the next screen, it will freeze for ten seconds or so and then crash. If I try to make a new character or randomize one, I can get up to the point where I select starting location, at which point it once again freezes for ten seconds and crashes.
I'm using Linux (Fedora 40). The game used to work right out of the box. I asked about this on the CoQ Steam forum and it was suggested that this was because of mods, but like I said, I have no mods installed and I've scoured my computer to find any lingering traces of the ones I had before and I can't find them.
Here's something from the Player.log that might be relevant?

2024.05.14 16:43 reach4thelaser5 Mods on Xbox App

I've recently started playing Dyson Sphere Program via Xbox Game Pass..... I'm having trouble getting some mods to work..... The AutoMute mod works fine out of the box using Thunderstore, but I cannot get either of the Night light mods to work.
SuperNightLight Thunderstore - The Dyson Sphere Program Mod Database
The instructions say " Unzip the SuperNightLight folder to steamapps/common/Dyson Sphere Program/BepInEx/plugins" This directly clearly doesn't exist for Xbox app.

I've tried adding it to D:\Xbox-Games\Dyson Sphere Program
and D:\Xbox-Games\Dyson Sphere Program\Content
which is where my game is installed. but still doesn't work. And there's no config file added.
Can anyone help..... The night-time on this game is a pain in the ass I can't see a thing.

2024.05.14 16:12 bicebird Stock looking consoles with complete romsets?

Very much a thought experiment as don't have anywhere near the disposable income needed lol but wondering if it's possible to store the entire rom/iso sets for every retro console (up to 7th gen?) in a playable form without any externally obvious hardware changes
So flashcarts are fine because they use cartridge slots as intended but no optical disk emulators that remove the original drive or usb hard drives sticking out the back. The idea of being able to take them back in time to when the console was released and the average player wouldn't notice until they boot it up and see a list of every game is pretty cool, like if your friend's uncle actually did work at Nintendo this is the magic console they'd bring back from work
It seems the cartridge based systems are pretty straight forward, everdrives exist for all the popular ones and support SD cards which can easily store more than enough, i.e NES ~1.5GB, ~SNES 4GB, N64 ~16GB, although file system and folder limits might complicate things a bit?
Optical media is where storage sizes start to get too big for the 2TB max size for current SD cards, Dreamcast is <1TB but OG Xbox is >16TB so you'd have to swap to HDDs/SSDs, most of Sony's and Microsoft's had support for HDDs and there's tons of complications with ide/sata support and bios limitations but feel like you could mod your way around them?
The Wii seems bit more difficult as it's >6TB so too big for SD cards and not much space internally but especially if you removed the case for a 8TB 2.5 SSD you should be able to, possibly with some hardware mods but going by the amount of DIY portables that's definitely an option
Kind of pointless to include releases for every region and revision but guess you could argue there's plenty of games no one will bother playing so the whole thing is just for bragging rights. I just really like the idea from a preservation point of view of having like a museum where you can interact with the consoles the same way as when they were released but also play every game?

2024.05.14 16:08 Fox_McCloud_Jr alright im stumped (modding help)

alright im stumped (modding help)
so im trying to download a mclaren P1 mod (its my favorite car so i really want it to work) but since i did it no matter what i do including removing the mod and ALL its dependencies aswell as disabling/completely deleting every single other mod i have the game loads, i dont have any way to skip the opening video, then it gets to the end where V is standing there with a gun on his shoulder and freezes. ive tried everything from removing every single mod. to deleting the cache in the R6 folder in the directory. i really dont know what to do. i also get a redscript error for a mod i didnt even know existed till i got the error, the mod being mixed cyberware store, i never installed it till now and it didnt change anything. and i didnt know the mod existed. this is really starting to piss me off since i have 19 hours into a save doing a 100% run on very hard mode with the hardcore mod installed. i really dont want to have to restart it but the game just refuses to get past that video. its also probably worth noting that not only is it doing this but i had a mod to skip the intro and once i installed this mod even that stopped working.

literally every mod i have installed minus one that doesnt go through vortex which is material and texture override, in which ive used both the redmod version and the legacy version and both cause the same issue.
the second picture is the spot where it freezes every time

2024.05.14 15:38 mathiastherex1 Cataclysm on Windows 11

Hello. I've managed to play the expansion, Cataclysm/Emergence on a modern OS, exactly on the Windows 11. I guess this also works on 10. I played the game on a Steam Deck. So I've downloaded the game from GOG. After it, I've also downloaded a program, to emulate an old voodoo2 card into the game. The link for it is: http://dege.freeweb.hu/dgVoodoo2/dgVoodoo2/. I put all of the files from the latest version into the game folder. Then from the MS folder put your system version folder (x86, x64, arm) content into the game folder also. After it, run the dgVoodooCpl.exe and configure it as you lile to run. The last step, right click on the desktop where after the installation the game put the launcher, properties and there into the target field put after the long part write /noswddraw /windows /noborder /sw /safeGL . After it, hopefully, just start the game. You can set the resolutuon in the options, for me, in the Steam Deck, the 1024x768x32 was the highest, bacause of it, I can still see a small part of the desktop, butnthe game runs smoothly.

2024.05.14 13:49 Poor_relative Fog Looks Good Now Mod doesn't work

So, I'm trying to install the Fog Looks Good Now mod, but once I put it in the Minecraft mods folder, the game gets stuck in Launcher. I press "play", the button changes to loading strip, and then it gets stuck on "downloading" forever. The game itself just won't start, untill I remove the mod file from the folder.
Some other mods I use: Sodium+Iris, worldedit, litematica+malilib, boosted brightness, freecam, WI-zoom, dynamic lights.

2024.05.14 13:32 Trance_Gene Steam Deck Modding question

I have most of the mod build installed on my PC install of the game. Would I just have to copy my override folder over to get the mods working on the deck? I got it to work on android years ago, but I'm drawing a blank as to how I did it back then.

2024.05.14 13:31 Sathrenor Could anyone sent me .zip-ed files of Riot Client main folders? Please?...

A little backstory here. Since the new expansion Riot Client started working funky. It was crashing on start, but figured out that killing Riotcrashhandler.exe in task manager was solving it and from then it worked just perfect.
I contacted support, explained everything my situation in detail and we proceeded to working things out. And after they made me do a clean reinstall and wiping everything related to Riot Client, they informed me they upped the requirements for whole client and now I cannot even run a god damn installed. All of that despite I told them at the beginning I'm still running older OS.
Now I am pissed, backstabbed, cut off from one of my favorite games I invested so much time and money into and rageposting while shaking from adrenaline (even though I could just run a mobile version on Bluestack...).
So I would ask for one small favor: Could anyone send me a zip of Riot Client main folder(s)? Just a client, rest should handle itself.
As I said, it worked all fine. The issue was that just some dumb sub-process was failing to reach some path from newer systems.

2024.05.14 13:15 1A41A41A4 Population Doubling bug

I made a backup of the pops files (common/history/pops/..) and put it in the same folder. The game doubled all pops leading to everyone in Afro-Eurasia starving. I'm not sure if this is even a bug since the devs probably didn't intend for you to create backups inside the game files.
