For the past year I’ve been dating my gf. We met in 8th grade at the time she had a boyfriend so whenever I would make advances they’d just get shut down. We rekindled my senior year of high school when I discovered her instagram page. At the time I didn’t know if she was currently in a relationship and didn’t really care to ask. We made small talk here and there but never anything flirtatious or sexually suggestive. One day she texted me and asked if I wanted her to hook me up with one of her friends, so of course me being me I accepted the offer. She then proceeded to ask me if I was a cheater, I told her no. She then asked for my number to put us into contact and right after I sent it. She texted me on iMessage stating that she thinks we’d make a good couple. I had been tricked. And in this moment when I read her text I couldn’t help but feel like the nice guy who finished last and got what was left over. we started chatting again more frequently and this was probably at the peak of my “hoe phase” I had just recently got a car gifted to me by my loving parents. So as a horny teen who just recently graduated I was doing bad. Seeing girls daily (intimately) sometimes even two. So as you could imagine I was not in the mental head space to jump into a relationship especially seeing that I’ve never been in one. Mind you she knew the type of guy I was, Because during my “hoe phase” I would publicize me going on dates with various girls on my instagram story cause I thought it was cool and my buddies would always ask how can I maneuver so carelessly and still have women that still put up with me. Around this time we weren’t in a relationship yet so their wasn’t any consequences for my actions. She’d see it complain then brush it off. But seeing that I did use to like this girl a lot…and I mean a lot, Just to put it into perspective for you on how delusional and down bad I was. When we first started chatting again, I went to our old Snapchat messages and reread every single one which took about 3 hours and they were so cringey and sappy to me that I took the time to delete every single one. (She was one of those weird people who’d saved the messages instead of letting them automatically delete after 24 hours) I felt like I had to do this because I didn’t want her to have any recollection of that desperate version of myself. Fast forward a few weeks and we went on our first date. I decided to take things slow with her by limiting myself to only kissing and fingering her. Then About a month after that is when we first had sex. And it felt exactly like I expected it to…magical. It was like we were two bodies who were meant for each other that finally met. Fast forward a few more months now it’s time for her to go off to college and when she left I slowly started reverting back into my old ways of seeing multiple girls a week and being promiscuous. This continued up until about January the next year when I got caught. Long story short, she cried I cried and we both decided that we’d like to move forward. During this season of our relationship I was constantly feeling guilt so much to the point where I ever considered suicide. I was constantly in my head saying things like “is it even worth it” “she probably doing it too and you just don’t know” “leave her” “it’ll never work” “you won’t regain her trust” “our relationship is irreparable” “don’t waste anymore of your youthful years on this failing relationship”. And with due time these negative thoughts stopped consuming my mind and we actually started doing better. I quit my job moved in with her and started working remotely. At this point in my life I couldn’t be any happier. It felt like a dream come true. All it took was one weekend and all of this ended. At this point it’s around spring break so all the surrounding colleges are having parties. I devised a plan to pick all the boys and go on a little road trip. We hit different colleges daily to party, drink and smoke and the biggest of incentive all, to meet girls. Looking back on it, this was a recipe for disaster. On one particular night I uploaded a video of me getting twerked on my by a girl to my close friends on instagram not remembering that she was still included in it. And before I could even sober up and realize what the fuck I’ve just done she eventually saw it and messaged me stating that this is her last time and “we’re done”. In this moment when I read the text while being drunk & high I just couldn’t find it in me to care or fight for our relationship. So I just thought to myself “ok”. As the night proceeded I found myself in some random suite where a girl approached me and began express her interest in me and long story short I ended up cheating. When all the fun was over and I dropped all the guys back home. I was still tasked with having to drive my girlfriend m back to her dorm cause she stayed with family for the weekend. I didn’t want to take her but no other buses were departing and everyone who she could’ve possibly asked was already preoccupied or just didn’t feel like doing a 4 hour drive there and back. And plus before all this turmoil I had already promised to her that I’d drive her back. I go to pick her up and she’s all moody and for the first 3 hours of the ride she gives me silent treatment. And the first words out of her mouth were “you know when we get back to my dorm you’re packing your shit and leaving right?” At first I didn’t respond. I laughed actually, not hysterically but more of a “wow after all we been thru you’re really ending this?” Laugh. All types of thoughts started racing thru my head. Part of me wanted to serve the car in front of an oncoming 18 wheeler but then I remembered that she’s still here with me and as ironic as it sounds I’d never want to hurt her, especially in a way that could result in fatality. The laughing slowly turned into silent tears. The pain I was feeling in my stomach was so excruciating it felt as if I had just been stabbed with a 10 foot sword repeatedly over and over and over again. I eventually started uncontrollably crying and spewing out my feelings. While doing this I confessed to cheating on her and told how I’d been long before that weekend. I pulled over to the side of the interstate in the middle of nowhere with no reception got out and just started crying even harder so she couldn’t see. I felt like my life had been ruined and the only person I could blame for it was myself. I eventually got back in and started driving in silence again. After all that crying with the added partying the past week and weekend I must’ve been real tired cause I started to doze off which I usually don’t. I’ve taken the drive enough to become accustomed to it and have built up enough stamina to make it all the way through without having to fight the feeling of tiredness. She noticed this and offered to take the wheel which I respectfully declined. I then told her I’d be pulling over to the side of the road to catch a quick 2 minute nap. I typically do this whenever I’m on extra long drives and my friends know me for it. I set a 2 minute timer on my phone and let my body temporarily rejuvenate as much as possible. And chances are they usually fall asleep too. Because I’d literally rather trust myself to drive tired before I let one of my unlicensed friends behind the wheel. I put my head down for what felt like 10 seconds and woke up to her nudging my shoulder saying that 7 minutes have passed. This bothered me because if I was so tired to the point I myself didn’t hear the alarm she should have came to the realization that I was genuinely tired and let me rest a little longer. But because it was her birthday she probably overlooked this aspect of my situation because she was just tooeager to get to her own birthday party that her friends had started without her. I began driving again will still tired and now aggravated from being woken up. I began to speed at this point we’re 40 miles away from our destination. The tiredness began to take over again and before I knew it I wake up to the screaming of my name as the car is slowly drifting off the road and I’m stuck in mud on the side of the interstate. A state trooper and tow truck arrive to assess the situation and we end up taking a Uber the rest of the way. At this point I’m stranded. I spent my last on tow truck fees and don’t even have anything saved up to pay for the mechanic fees, let alone worry about gas money. We somehow managed talk and temporarily bandaid the under lying issue and sleep in the same bed that night but things progressively kept on getting worse and worse as the days went on. It got so bad to the point where we slept in different rooms, Or so I thought. The morning after I go into her room to check on her and see paper towels and her sitting up still crying in the same position she was the night before. I on the other hand actually slept pretty well. She then came into my room still with water in her cute pearly big eyes. And to my surprise sat down directly on my lap and told me how she couldn’t get no sleep. We hugged and talked and cried then ultimately came to the conclusion that our relationship is worth more than my stupid mistakes and I have some more maturing to do.

I understand the need to upgrade to CBTC, eventually the whole system even though that may not take until the 2040s. But is thay really going to be the end of any old tech trains ever traversing the tracks?
I suppose one possibility is to build replicas of the vintage trains, maybe by taking their parts so they still sound alike and ensuring the lights are wired to blink on the power gaps. The only thing that wont be able to be identical would be the cab, since it would need the CBTC screen.
This idea has been done with some streetcars, like the TECO in Tampa. Except they decided to give those air conditioning (which is understandable as its in a subtropical climate and meant for regular service), but maybe they wouldnt on replica subway cars.
With replicas they could even fill in the holes of models that havent been preserved.
Anyway, another less radical idea that would obviously be much more affordable isnt for nostalgia trips but regular trains. They could turn a select few existing rolling stock into "heritage" units, with old-school liveries and potentially the classic fonts for the numbers (also "ta" or "M" medallions). If so, they should definitely make a "redbird" R-188 given the history of the 7 train, and another with the WF aquamarine livery. In the BMT eastern pool (preferably a 4-car 160 or 179 since the 143 doesnt go above ground as much) they could mimic the brown of the AB standards. An R142 could have a "train of many colors" deal.
This "heritage" idea is not an original concept. NJT has it on some of their locomotives. Even some airlines do it on their planes.
Maybe there could also be throwback buses to Triboro Coach, Liberty Lines, Command, etc. matched to appropriate depots.

Based on what I saw the police didn’t hurt anyone.
The wrestled a couple kids into handcuffs and escorted them to buses to be processed.
Nobody got punched. Nobody got hit with a baton. Nobody got sprayed with pepper spray. Nobody got shot or bean bagged.
The university and the cops literally let them play out their protest for days before telling them we need the school back for people to study and the interruption was becoming unreasonable. Taking over a building didn’t help the protestors act like the victims.
Then they even gave the kids several warnings to disperse and waited longer than they said they would for people to pack up their stuff and leave.
They literally took the softest approach possible to get people to leave. But because they wore helmets and stood in a line people are claiming brutality. I don’t see any gentler way it could have been handled while still reclaiming the university for the students and faculty who don’t care about this issue.

But mostly a very long one. I don’t think this place I’m presenting here is heaven, but without Suburbs Heaven Thursday this subreddit may give viewers the idea that we’re all just hating, and this case study may help illustrate some of the alternatives and what one could like and dislike about them. I know that yelling “the Netherlands!” on any urbanist platform is overdone and so 2 years ago, but I also feel like the available “Netherlands!” content is giving people an incomplete picture. So I’m going to discuss a suburban neighborhood, Lunetten, in Utrecht, where I’ve lived for about a year now. It’s a place built in the 70’s and 80’s, housing about 11,000 people in 5,500ish homes, for a density of just over 4,000 people/km2, 10,000 per square mile. Obviously that’s pretty dense. In a North American context Lunetten may count more as an example of the “missing middle” than a true suburb, but I feel it still works as a comparison because it is situated at the edge of a city* and it offers features people often look to the suburbs for, like a low noise environment, plenty of green and child oriented features. So, what can we find in this example that people may like or dislike in their suburban areas? If you want to look along on your favorite online map: 52° 3'53 N, 5° 8'13 E. Traffic and transit Lunetten has a clear main road (middle left image, bright pink line on the map) that serves as the main way of getting around by car. It is the only road where the limit is 50 km/h (30 mph), not 30 km/h. The main road has priority over all side roads, indicated by the exits of all side streets being raised a bit. The speed bump automatically makes one slow down to yield to the traffic on the main road. In the places where people’s front doors open towards this main ring there are service roads for them to do their parking and loading and such on. In the busiest part of the ring the road was raised a few meters so pedestrians and cyclists can pass underneath through tunnels. So while the maximum speed cars can go on most of the roads in this place is quite low, the time to destination is pretty good, because a lot was done to ensure a good flow of traffic. A more debatable feature is the lack of through-traffic options. If you want to leave Lunetten by car there are two roads leading West, connecting to the rest of the city and to the 70km/h raised road that serves as the exit from the city. There is also one small road going South-East along the train line, and that’s it. Despite being next to two highways Lunetten has no direct on- and off-ramp accessing it, and even no direct way across the highways for cars. Cyclists and pedestrians do have options leading in basically all directions. On the one hand this does wonders for how quiet the neighborhood is, but on the other hand that one road taking people in and out of the city is still more prone to blocking than a direct ramp to the highway, so car owners will experience some travel delays because of this. Lunetten is no public transit hotspot, but there are like two bus lines both going to more connected places including the city’s central hub, and the train station is two stops from said hub as well, which happens to be the biggest train station in the Netherlands. Public Spaces Even by Dutch standards Lunetten has a pretty urban-ish density. There’s a mix of mostly rowhouses and midrise apartment buildings, mostly gallery flats up to 5 stories tall, including the ground floor. To give you an idea of Dutch standards for density: I grew up in a commuter town of about the same size as Lunetten, housing 1,000 less people (present day numbers) on roughly 1.25 times the surface**. But what I find interesting is what that space is used for. In Lunetten, on the outer ring of the neighborhood, adjacent to the two highways, busy raised road and train line that surround the neighborhood, there are quite sizable parks (bottom right picture). There’s plenty of space for dogs to run off their leash, there are football/play fields, there are two skate parks, two ponds for amphibians to spend the winter in (granted: that’s an amenity most people could live without) and an entire petting zoo, in case you had doubts this was a suburb. Together with a football/soccer club, a tennis club, some allotment gardens and a small business park near the train station these parks take up most of the space where traffic noise is an issue. There is room for recreation and other daytime activities in the noisy bits (there are sound screens, but that’s not blocking all of the noise) so that peoples’ homes can mostly be in the quiet parts, shielded from noise by trees and stuff. And then there’s the neighborhood interior. You’ll see on the map a few yellow locations marked as “playground/square”, but in reality many, probably most, of the dark green “courtyards” contain a little playground too. All of the courtyards have grass, most if not all of them have trees, many of those trees being taller than the midrises. Some of the courtyards feature parking space as well***. The middle right image is far from the greenest example. The combination of the parks and the courtyards make Lunetten much greener than the actual smallish town I lived in mentioned previously. Plenty of birds live here too, including a bunch of water birds who enjoy the ditches and canals. In the smallish town much more of the space was simply used for row houses with pretty large gardens, and in the newer parts a bunch of four home and two home units and free standing homes as well****. Which brings me to the reality check. With all these pedestrianized public spaces around and loads of playgrounds, is Lunetten actually a good neighborhood to raise kids? From what I can tell, opinions are mixed. Because one thing that does tend to come with density of people is density of crime. In my year here I have personally witnessed a man snorting coke off his bicycle saddle, in broad daylight, in the middle of a bike lane near a skatepark with playing children in it*****. There is also the occasional lost shopping cart dumped in a canal and apparently there was a pretty shocking supermarket robbery just before I moved in. Especially if your budget only allows for an apartment and not a house I could imagine feeling a little scared to let young children wander around near the house on their own, also maybe because of the canals and ditches they might fall into. The sweet spot age for children in Lunetten is probably around 9-12, old enough to be trusted with their own safety around water and some minor drug use and vandalism, yet young enough to fully enjoy all the outdoor play space. The blame for the crime is often put on the street pattern that is said to attract drug dealers and the like who love having good get away options, and the many green public spaces and nice dry apartment building entrances are certainly not the worst place a homeless person could go to for another night of hopefully not being bothered by the police. More recently developed neighborhoods have tried to avoid these effects by using a “cauliflower pattern” for their streets, branched streets ending in a bunch of (at least to cars) dead ends. The downside of that pattern seems to be less sense of community. The more direct neighbors you have, the more interaction. That’s why cul-de-sacs can be so isolating after all. Lunetten is not the worst crimey part of its parent city by a long shot, but it’s noticeable enough to be worth mentioning. A planned neighborhood The big advantage I think Lunetten has over a lot of other places is that it was designed in one go. The land it was built on was part of the Dutch Water Line******, and had to stay free of buildings and obstructions that would block the firing lines of defending artillery. (That’s what the two weird shapes in the northern park are: old fortifications, called Lunette 3 and 4. Hence the suburb’s name.) When the line was legally disbanded in 1963 Utrecht started planning to build a new neighborhood here. Because of the highways (current configuration built at the same time as the suburb) and the train line that surround the place it was very clear to where the neighborhood would stretch. And it shows. The suburb is designed as a cohesive whole. There’s a neighborhood shopping center (bottom left image and the main soft pink blob on the map) at the heart of the neighborhood. It has two supermarkets, some small other shops, several small fast food/lunch places in different styles, two bicycle shops and repair places (it’s the Netherlands), a restaurant (there’s another one on one of the forts in the park, which doubles as a sort of social work place), a community center which houses some clubs and such (not the scouts, those have a place in one of the parks) as well as a library. There’s even a bar (I think, I should maybe go there ones), and some space where small neighborhood markets and events turn up with some regularity. The other main soft pink and yellow blob in a convenient central location on the map is two elementary schools*******. In many more organically grown neighborhoods or places the amenities wouldn’t be so conveniently centralized or would eventually be “centralized” on the outskirt of town. The Bijlmer comparison, what not to do Another interesting point of comparison I think is the Bijlmer (Bijlmermeer officially) in Amsterdam, another green neighborhood designed as one big plan outside of its parent city’s core, yet quite different. The Bijlmer is nationally famous as a bit of a ghetto, a place where you don’t want to live. (To be fair: the plane falling down on it didn’t help its case.) A lot of work has been done to improve the place, but its initial “ghettoization” was surprising because the Bijlmer was never intended to even be particularly affordable, but more of a vertical suburb, spacious family apartments (around 120 m2) for 100,000 people or more in large highrise buildings with between them plenty of green. A quiet place, with quick access to the city, using density to save on land use and travel time. There are three main differences I see between the struggling Bijlmer and “doing pretty well” Lunetten: 1 The Bijlmer has a higher density through the use of massive apartment buildings, literally and figuratively increasing the distance between people’s homes and the public space. 2 The Bijlmer is a much bigger place, I’m not sure they ever got to those 100,000 inhabitants, but it certainly loses that towny vibe. 3 They’ve been correcting this in the rebabilitation, but as designed the Bijlmer had basically no amenities. It wasn’t a town or city, it was people storage, housing for people who mentally lived several kilometers away but couldn’t afford it there. See the rest of this subreddit for why that doesn’t work for many people. Interdependency with other suburbs Looking back on growing up in that smallish town I notice that there really isn’t that much of a difference in amenities. The town offered much of the same things Lunetten does. But Lunetten’s status as a suburb gives it a big advantage over that town. Because while suburbs mostly serve themselves, they also serve each other. Take sports: there’s a football and tennis club and two indoor sports halls in Lunetten, but what if I want to swim or throw spears instead? Well, there’s a pool in a suburb to the North, as well as an athletics stadium. After elementary school there’s no middle/high school in Lunetten, but there are in nearby neighborhoods, and there are even college options******** spread throughout different suburbs and neighborhoods. These things are closer than they are in a small town not because the suburb is associated with a city center, but because it is associated with other suburbs. There are things I liked about the commuter town, but having to take either an honestly too long bike trip or a bus ride that only went whenever it was not convenient for me whenever I wanted to do something my town didn’t provide, like going to school, wasn’t one of them. And I say that even as a spoiled person whose commuter town at least had buses and bicycle paths. Conclusion And that is I think the main takeaway from this absolute wall of text: suburbs don’t have to be places where there’s nothing to do and you feel disconnected from the world. That’s the entire point of living in a suburb instead of in a town: there are other places nearby. There is a balance to be found between private space, public space and connectivity. Essentially, in a neighborhood of 10,000 people, for every 100x100 meters of public space or amenities either every person gets 1 square meter less private space or everybody gets maybe a few meters of extra travel distance on the average trip. Lunetten probably provides too little private space for the taste of many North American suburbanites, but it does show I think that there is quite a bit of room on those sliders. A green place with amenities sort of near other places can still be built with more spacious houses. (Just maybe go easy on the sea of lawns?) And that’s when all the separated bike lanes and other urbanist talking points really start making sense: when you found the balance between having your own place, having local places worth going to and being close enough to other places worth going to, then you want a good way to get there. The other takeaway I feel is that it pays to design neighborhoods as a unit. And that’s another reason why suburbs can be better than towns. A town of 10,000 residents can’t plan ahead for the next 10,000, but a city of several hundred thousand people can. And it pays off. Don’t lose track of the human scale though, planning 10,000 residents ahead might actually be better than planning 100,000 or 1,000,000 residents ahead when it comes to suburbs. It is still supposed to feel like a quiet little place with maybe a bit of its own identity. * On the other side of one of the highways there’s a bit of forest tied to several historic estates that’s very nice for walking in as well as a golf course half as big as this entire neighborhood, this really is the edge of town and will be for the foreseeable future. ** I’ve also lived in several other cities since then, near the city center, further out and on the far edge in a highrise neighborhood. Honestly I might still prefer the smaller cities I’ve lived in, being near everything the city offers and even to some of the stuff outside of it. But work took me back to a larger city (pretend I said “less tiny” if you’re from Mexico City or something), and I could honestly have landed in a much worse place than this particular suburb. *** Fun fact: this is one of the very few neighborhoods of Utrecht where parking is currently still free, because of enough parking space and enough distance to the city center. It really is a suburb. **** In the 90’s a style of more expensive neighborhoods called “Vinex” set standards for the ratio of more expensive to cheaper houses in those neighborhoods, and ever since both contractors and local politicians refuse to let go of those ratios everywhere. A newer, competing vision is that we shouldn’t be building new neighborhoods at all, just filling in the gaps in our cities. So now we mostly build quite large houses, but only in very small spaces. We’re still not sure where that massive housing shortage came from, somehow. ***** I stopped and addressed him because I thought he was having bicycle trouble, chain ran off or something. Quite a chill dude, very apologetic, but still maybe not exactly what the average parent is looking for in a neighbor. ****** More accurately: Holland Waterline, because it wasn’t the only Dutch waterline, but it was the main one defending the part called Holland. But that sounds a bit off in English. ******* We have a bit of a weird school system, for every public elementary school there is at least one other founded on religious grounds or based on some specific didactic theory. That’s why there are two schools in the same central location instead of just one bigger school or two in separate locations. ******** If I start going into the differences in advanced education systems we’ll be here all day, but there are options within cycling distance ranging from trade school to university, depending on the field you actually want to study *********. ********* I could start using other symbols instead of these confusingly long rows of asterisks, but where would be the fun in that? |

Specifically, for Harvest Park Middle School and AVHS, if you live in Country Fair or in the tennis park neighborhood, it requires either 20+ minutes of walking or biking just 4 minutes but on extremely busy roads (like Hopyard / Valley). For whatever reason, the city buses do not seem to go through Valley. Do kids typically walk? Or do they bike? Or do the parent pick them up and drop them off? How could that work if both parents are employed? Do kids have the option to just stay in the school library until a parent can pick them up (and how late could they stay)? It is really a mystery to me how people are able to manage this and keep the kids safe!

I'm attending a big 10 university. i feel completely misplaced. most the kids I'm around all the time are like omg I'm just like so bad at school i got a 89 on my exam >:( and treat me like I'm stupid for having to take college algebra. even explaining i went to a super tiny school that didn't have precalc or anything doesn't change it. i feel so insignificant. i could get past the rat race academic culture; but then i got effing disabled. its gotten so bad I'm looking at getting a wheelchair because my body is literally fighting me on everything. the campus is a 30+ minute walk from the dorms to the other side of campus, and there is a really poor bus system (only city buses, no school owned buses, like 200ish seats at MAX at any point in the day for the main campus loop). so I'm stuck walking a lot. and then there's parts of campus that arent even vehicle accessible. the entire thing is not very accessible or disability friendly, even with a ton of accommodations. and then the courses are SO freaking hard. like, i knew college was hard but some courses have average exam rates of like 40-50 percent. is that even normal?? i feel like everyone is either complaining about insanely high grades or flunking left and right. and I'm only going here because i liked campus (when i toured and WASNT struggling with a mobility disorder) and they offered me so much aid it covered everything and left me with $1600 in spending/savings refund each semester. but I'm not feeling like its worth it to feel crummy and have declining mental health and grades...my friends think I'm overexaggerating though. i get that the financial aid is good, but i got good financial aid (almost full coverage) at most schools i applied to senior year of hs. i think i can get good financial aid again as long as i transfer in state. i don't know if I'm just frustrated or if its actually worth it to transfer somewhere else. all i know is I'm literally in constant pain when I'm there because of trying to get to classes and get meals and just FUNCTION. and my grades are suffering, and so is my mental health, because this whole new chronic illness thing is kicking my ass. my friends think im exaggerating and its just because im depressed and that i should stick it out. but i think maybe they just selfishly don't want me to leave? not sure. please tell me what yall think. im completely lost on what to do.

Sorry, I need to go on a rant
I live in a city that is typical of auto-infested like most of the US. However, the weather has been beautiful the last few days here, and there is a beautiful park with pickle ball, softball, soccer, and tennis courts, along with multiple playgrounds, an awesome public library and a sculpture park! There's also a brand new elementary school with two parks, fields and a basketball court as well.
The best part of this park is it's part of a web of trails that connects you to many of the single family homes nearby and even go a few miles out, up to 10 is about the furthest it goes which is awesome. Most people of this mid-sized suburb (50k, inner ring suburb) is that most people are within 2 miles of this awesome park because the inner ring suburb is about 2 miles wide and 10 miles long. Yet, day after day, the parking lot is full, to the brim even the school buses are having a hard time picking up the kids. The big stroad nearby (there is great underpass for pedestrians, it’s wide and over 12ft+) the stroad is currently under-construction and some lanes have been closed meaning there is a lot of traffic trying to get to this park since there is only one entrance and exit where the stroad is under construction, making driving there a pain and walking and biking the way more attractive option especially with the picture-perfect weather and they’re going outside anyways…
But they don’t… I just dont' get it, great walking + biking trails, beautiful weather (the trail is lined with trees providing excellent shade throughout) and yet it is very clear most people drove there! They're already wanting to be outside, why the hell are most still driving! I just don't get american car-brained. I am not saying everyone has to bike and walk to this park, but these parking lots sure do show signs of most people driving there. I see so many fit, able bodied people get out of their cage, and take their bikes off their cars or get their running shoes ready. And if you're a family, it's easy to carry balls in bags especially if you have a basket and multiple family members to help.
They can’t possibly leave their homes and do anything without their 2-ton death machines

(17f) I just turned 17 this week k and every day I get more and more upset that I have no social life. I have 1 friend that i do things with and I can’t just go over to her house because she lives in the country side which is over an hour away in the car and therefore impossible to walk. There are no buses to get to her. We don’t go to the same college (that’s high school for Americans, idk abt everyone else. I’m from England).
I’ve made friends at college and at the extracurricular i do, but they are all “work friends” and we’re not compatible to be actual close friends. We just don’t click.

2024.05.15 22:17 Quellman A week at AKL -Kidani Village
So I did it. After years of the family trips at BLT theme park views we did a week at another resort. We stayed 4-11 May in 7880 the Grand Villa at the end of the resort.
The Room We aren’t a stranger to 3 bedrooms. So we thought the room layout was familiar to the one at BLT. The extended balcony on the lower floor was really nice since literally there are animals out passing you by. BLT is just a huge window and not much in the way of balcony space.
I will say that the placement of the washer and dryer was not ideal- because it is loud and right there at the main living room. BLT has a (much too large) laundry room but at least it conceals the noise.
Kitchen was well set up and the dining table was nice, especially with the buffet.
Like most rooms- there isn’t usually enough seating for a full party. We had 9 total guests. 5 adults 2 kids a toddler and an infant. So it didn’t matter too much.
I know the resort and rooms are scheduled for their refurbishment. They certainly need some updates. Resort hallways had peeling wall paper. The carpets are just plain worn or no longer able to be cleaned of stains. I will also comment that the lighting in the rooms is terrible. I was not prepared for the dim yellow lights everywhere hidden by the themed drum lamps. My wife had difficulty preparing herself in those conditions.
The Resort Parking under the resort like at Vero Beach is great- but for those of us at the end of the resort past where the parking ends- we have a harder time finding spaces. Not really seeing a car for a week was great at building the resort feel we lack at BLT and the parking lot views.
Lobby is great fun and appropriated well. The animals are always a joy to visit and see.
Our room was 10 minutes from anywhere. 10 minutes to the lobby and buses. A bit longer to the pool. I know that it is sometimes based in the luck where you are- but that endless hallway was tiring. At least there are large windows to look out of at the end of each building unit.
Pool area at Kidani is enjoyable and we used it 2x. The splash pad and playground were of course a hit. The pool entertainment added to and didn’t detract from enjoyment. They didn’t feel the need to blare Disney Jr songs as if at the front row of a TSwift concert. Pool bar was adequate if a bit lacking in food options. Fitness center is serviceable.
dining We did Sanaa for dinner. It was fine. Probably not worth the hype though for us. It was an enjoyable food but doesn’t need a repeat from us if we aren’t staying there.
We did Boma for dinner and breakfast. Always a good time for any party. We enjoyed breakfast more than dinner. I took jungle juice back to the room and made it an adult beverage.
We also went to Mara for diner one night. Despite never understanding what qualifies as a side from the coolers the meal was better than passable. The mural in the restaurant is detailed and fun. Food choices were more healthy in my opinion than not.
Transportation
We travelled during a slow time of the year. After spring breaks and before schools are out. So we were able to catch buses with ease to the parks each day at rope drop without many other people. At the bus depots the boarding locations were decent as well. Multiple marked boarding areas. Except for MK and EPCOT which share a bus stall. Our longest wait was about 24 minutes waiting for a return bus from Animal kingdom. The longest bus trip was to MK as is expected. In fact most all bus trips to the parks were expedient - probably better than BLT which has a terrible bus station. I think the fact that most of the roads to get anywhere are highways really helps.
We did walk between the resorts a few times but also took the inter resort shuttle. You may also be able to jump aboard a bus if they are also going to Jambo house but you need to ask since they don’t always.
cast and activities
We didn’t come across a bad cast member at all. Everyone was friendly, kind, sincere, and engaging. In fact I left multiple cast compliments.
The bead gathering activity was so much fun. We didn’t complete all of the activities so we will need to be back to gather them all. We were not aware of them until most of the way through our trip. If you have a resort day it’s a great activity.
Jambo and Kidani compliment each other well. If one resort is doing the movie by the pool the other is not. So you can flip between the two easily.
The community hall has a pool table and table ball there to enjoy. The arcade has a lot of choices at decent cost too.
Final thoughts
Savannah view matters more if you have a resort day or kids. It was obviously going to be a draw for us. The 10 minutes to get anywhere is only for folks in the far ends of the resort. Most people will have less. And honestly- you can spend the same going from floor 15 BLT to the bus depot.
We would certainly consider this resort ahead of others like SSR or OKW especially once the refurbishment is done.
We have a stay at Boulder Ridge later this year.

Hey guys excuse my grammar it’s not the very best . So my story is the same as everyone’s really I’ve been I divestor since I was 20 never dated a bm in my life . Because I started dancing at 18 and got into divesting at 20 but my whole life I’ve never dated them subconsciously I just knew something wasn’t right w blackistan so I’m glad I got the message at 20 . But this post isnt about them at all this post is about my mother so ever since I was a child my demonic spirit aka my mother but we’ll just call her a demonic spirit. Never liked me I cannot remember anytime in my childhood where their was some sort of motherly love it’s was always physically mentally and verbally abusive and very neglectful. But let me not get into it by the time I was 11/12 I fantasized about her no longer being alive or me moving to stay w someone sane for the most part I ignored her around the house . I mean when she wasn’t berating and abusing me to clean her house there’s nothing we really had in common I would occupy my time w other hobbies as a child school music outside time friends would take up most of my time and I would loathe to be around her . But she would love to humiliate me in front of my friends and just make me feel very low, Cps was called three times and other people knew about the abuse but nothing was really done , but the time I was in my teenage to young adult hood I was very active always wanted to try new thing new experiences always outside like the thing I used to do in my teens really makes me proud because I was so outgoing and had little to no fear about anything . I literally took a bus across country for a audition when I was like 18/19 (that may seem small to u but now at 24 I get anxiety going across town idky ) ,Like I really walked in a strip club all alone at 18 to get hired by myself and I did . And by the time I was a pre-teen I wanted nothing to do w my mother I had no feeling or no love for her at all . But I left her house at 20 I stay by myself in a 1 bedroom apt .Something automatically changed I was in the house all the time I only left for work I I guess I was still doing things and not anxious about things at 20 but gradually over time I started staying home I felt like I was in a state of arrested development idk what to call it but my I didn’t care to have a relationship w my mother but I still yearned for that motherly love as we all do as I got older so I was 22/23 I wasn’t talking to her for months then she reached out to me via my sister and told me she’s sorry ,changed , and begged me to move in w her I declined several times but after persistently asking and rent getting high I had no choice but to agree (she stays in a very nice house in a nice neighborhood Ik that doesn’t matter but very convincing ) but this time my older brother who’s very mysoginstic Kevin Samuel’s loving hated her cut her off like he was so hurt by the trauma and he wanted to go on Facebook and air all her business out to everyone we knew Facebook is her entire life . At the time I thought it was childish and petty and I was actually one of the flying monkeys ( a term in the therapy world for a narssasist enabler ) . I really thought my mother changed she had me fooled for 6 months even thought I was helping her and trying to fix the relationship we never had our relationship was the best it ever was my whole life she was still talking to me behind my back and having her outbursts. But that was my mother and I craved the mother love I never had so bad I was letting her get away w slight disgusting behaviorI think I was seeing narc mom content but never really paid attention .But one day she had this outburst so bad I was like I’m officially done my older brother cut me offf for dealing me her but idc both of them are toxic . I was doing so much research about how narc mother hate their daughter in competition w them jealous of them . She caused me to have so much low self esteem it’s crazy … and I think this new anxiety and anxiousness about life is her doing I can’t quite telll but when I had no relationship w her I was very outgoing and living my life .(although I was drinking alcohol at the clubs I’ve since stopped though and things are very clear now) ever since I got close to her wanting to build a relationship I’ve been very stagnant . But I cut her off a year ago when she had her outburst . And since then I’ve been slowly getting back to being progressive and outgoing and trying new things and getting a hobby . I still live w her but she’s gone 5 days out the week (she’s a travel nurse ) . What’s crazy to me though is that u really thought she changed and she very much so had me convinced and now she’s back to her old ways . But now since I’m so educated on the topic I used to let her say what she wants and I walk out the house without saying anything back . But now I’m hurting so bad like I’m really hurting in pain thinkin of how can she do this to her child like damn this women really never like or cared about me she just felt obligated because she had me by a bum who ultimately left her and I only meet once . So now I’m returning her energy when she saying awful things to me and I’m saying even more disgusting vile things to her especially about her having 5 kids by 3 men and all of them used and abused her and her taking it on us I’m saying even worse foul things to her (That I never said to her in my life I find it so tacky and degenerate to talk to someone like that I’m really the nicest sweetest person in the world and she knows that I h8 talking to her like that but I’m just standing up for myself after years of her abuse and then I feel guilty for standing up for myself but I will no longer allow her to talk to me in a disgusting manner and get away w it ) . Like last month she brought a man over (which is very new for her she never brought men home she divorced her ex husband when I was 13 and has been single ever since she’s a workaholic which there is nothing wrong w) she brought a guy over and I cussed her out really bad in front of him like oh how could you abuse us like this telling her she took her anger out on us cause she made bad decisions and then I bused out crying telling her how it hard to be and adult beacuse all I think about 24/7 is how she treated us it was bad but esp worst for the girls she was a mammy but she loved her black KANGS she abused us all but treated them a bit better . While I’m crying w tears in my face instead of feeling some sort or remorse in her face she smirked w glee … we fought twice that day her trying to get me out and me telling her to call the police ultimately my sister came to calm us down but mostly took her side I mean that her mother so yea . I used to be one of her flying monkeys so I understand why she feels the way she does my sister. But I cut all of my siblings relatives friends off . I don’t want anything w one one who had a relationship w my mom plus most of them are very degenrate and deep in blackistan my mother is Haitian but I consider myself black American I don’t want anything to do w that culture . I’m cutting them all off I want to move out of this city and relocate .And before anyone tells me that I need to leave I know that trust me but the economy is awful . I want to start a Facebook page when I leave her house add her her personal people that she knows and air out all her dirty laundry and how she treated us . she’s a covert narc and people don’t really know the real her like I want to talk about all the terrible things she’s ever done to us and it’s bad the thought of exposing her like that gives me the boost to want to work everyday and get my shiii together so I can leave this house and never return to the people that knew me I just want to run away and never look back .But sometimes I just think like I should just leave and cut her and everyone who knew me offf and start over in another part of the country and don’t do that Facebook thing it’s childish but I really want to exose her I’m just in the fence about that? 2. One of my friends took the Iready Diagnostic the same day as the Math Sol. She had the diagnostic right before the Sol and she had a calculator for the diagnostic but obviously it’s not allowed for the Sol. She said that the calculator didn’t even work so she put it in her pocket and was going to give it to her friend without the teachers seeing it. Unfortunately one of the teachers saw it and reported them to the admin, and while they both were getting in trouble the girl who was taking the calculator from my friend left before my friend could tell her story. So in the end they didn’t even listen to her and she got ISS (in school suspension) for the rest of the day. Before she left to go to the buses she got told that she wouldn’t be able to retake the Sol and as far as I know as long as you don’t opt out you cannot go up a grade even though she didn’t do anything wrong. So if she does get held back could she take legal action as they didn’t even check the cameras in the cafeteria (where the testing was) and would wrongly hold her back.

I remember when i was in middle school i had a extra 45 minutes period after school this was "obligatory" or atleast thats what teacher and staff would say i had to stay to pass the year so as a kid i would do what my teacher said to avoid failing but every day i had to go back home walking because they wouldnt provide buses for us so now as an adult i keep asking my self is this even legal? School officially ended at 2:45 but for some kids like me ended at 3:35 i am from Texas thanks to all of you

Recently JEE MAINs aur NEET ke exam khatam hue hai and many more competitive exams are yet to be conducted in coming days.
And the way parents/guardians of candidates of these examination wait for the kids outside exam hall without any proper facilities to sit or take rest for 3-4 hours really make me question , do they really need to this?
I understand , maybe unke presence se bacche ko ek mental support milta hoga but yrr I feel 17-18 y/o kid is capable enough to handle things on their own atleast at an exam centre.
I don't like the idea of our middle aged parents having to wait outside exam hall for us , for hours.
Personally , all the competitive exams I have given till now , I have never took any of my parents with me (except for paper 1 of JEE adv where my mom refused to let me go alone , and accompany me till I have my lunch in break between paper 1 and paper 2). And I haven't faced much problem while travelling from public transport to my exam centres (maybe because I am a guy and it can a bit unsafe for female candidates to travel alone via public transport in some places)
Like yes , travelling through public transport wasn't comfortable. I had to go standing in buses for 2 hours from one city to another , then take another bus to go to an Ricco area . Then walk some 400m more to reach to my centre in that Ricco , lekin itna bhi koi difficult nahi hota yeh sab Krna. Especially given that we are very young and full of energy.
A few days ago , my relatives (my bua sa and Tau ji) , taunted my father , for letting me go alone for such an important exam while boasting how they wont let their kids to go write even a school exam alone (12th class mein hai tau ji ka beta , jiski baat kr rhe the woh log) and I found it so bizzare and sad at the same time , how can they say such thing!
But what are your opinion about this? Do your parents go with you to the examination centres?

Typical high-school story: I had a bully on my tail. He was one of those assholes that kept bugging me, jumping me and laughing while he pushed me around. And it happened once in a while, mostly I could avoid him. High school started at 9, and I used to walk to school so I would be there at 8, because about half past 8, the buses would come. And he would get on the walk from the parking lot up to the school.
Whenever he would bully me, I tried the pacifist approach first, just get away from there, he was an asshole anyway, not worth my time.... I remember one time in winter when him and his goons shoved me into a pile of snow and smoshed a snowball right into my face. I struggled to break free and then he suddenly just pushed me hard so I fell to the ground. I remember one of my friends (bless his heart) asking me if I was okay? "That looked like it hurt." I just said "I am fine!" before going away to a place to cry by myself and cursing the bully under my breath. That was all.
Until one day when I was on my way to the cafeteria. He stood in the middle of the doorway, blocking it and grinning widely. I asked if he could move, to which he just grinned "Hurr hurr, please move...". I turned around and started to walk away, thinking again to not start something..... Then I heard him laughing to his goons behind my back. And something snapped. I turned around and I ran straight against him, grabbing him by his collar and pushed him through the door! He fell down and I went into the cafeteria. I think I must've suprised him because he didn't get up and chase after me or something. My memory is hazy after this, I don't think I stopped the bully entirely because he could still call me names. Still, better than getting jumped.
When I tell this story, people can go "Good for you, you stood up for yourself against that bully!" Me though.... I feel I I should've done more! I can catch myself fantasizing about when he was lying there on the floor after I had pushed him, how I should've kicked his teeth in, gouged an eye out, stomped on his ribcage... I know, it wouldn't have been a good idea at the time, I would've gotten into all sorts of trouble. And it's just a power fantasy, ain't it? Only those things that happens in "macho-bullshit-fantasyland". I don't think I would be that violent, I didn't have the stomach for it then and certainly not now. Still, I hate this guy. So very much.
And yet, I don't want to hate this guy so much. I mean I am in my mid-30s now, I have dealt with issues bigger than him. The last time I saw the guy was at the pub, and since then I haven't seen him. He glanced at me and was like "Hey... I recognize you, you're (some guys) little brother, ain't ya?" To which I just glared at him and replied "Nope, I am the kid you bullied in high school." To which he just scoffed, that didn't happen.... But he did give me several glares throughout the night. As if he was scared of me trying something, maybe he thought I was drunk enough to try and hit him with a bottle or something?
Hell, he might've become an actual decent person for all I know! If I had been friendly to him at the pub, maybe I would've noticed a new, more mature side to him! Still... I catch myself wishing I had been more violent against him, as if justice still hasn't been done! He made my high school years a hell, and he still hasn't paid for it! He bullied me and... That's it?! He got away?! That's not fair!
