History: We got him a little less than a year ago. Vet has prescribed Trazadone/Gabapentin for reactivity in stressful situations. We have successfully used these meds 2x in the past 6 months without issue. I am also pretty sure he was receiving these meds while in the shelter. Or at least, trazadone.
Clinical signs: Hives - was given a dose of 1 Gabapentin 600mg and 3 Trazadone 100mg yesterday 6:30am. Was fine all day - normal response to meds - sleepy and drowsy. Was maybe a little itchy at bedtime (10pm), woke up this morning at about 6am with hives all over his body. No other symptoms except occasional itchiness. Mood and energy and appetite was normal otherwise. Went down a little over the course of 2.5hrs, but most were still noticeable. Gave Benadryl (2.5 25mg tablets) and Hives reduced a bit within the hour. I had to leave for work at that point. Husband said he was sleeping but still looked a bit bumpy when he left around 11am

Wondering if this is a typical reaction to these meds - especially after multiple uses without issue, or if we could be looking at an allergy or reaction to something else. I understand that both these meds CAN cause hives - but wouldn't the most likely so so within a few hours of ingestion?
Does it warrant a vet appointment if he has responded to benadryl? Thanks for the help.

Hi. I did my first Humira dose on May 3 and on May 13 I developed a little rash at my injection site, I thought "no big deal," but sent a message to my rheum just to let her know. I now have it on pretty much my entire body minus my lower legs and feet. My scalp and ears are super itchy. My rheum said it is "unlikely" to be caused by Humira, but I can't think of anything else it would be, especially since it started at my injection site. I was taking Benadryl, and this morning took Zyrtec instead, and it doesn't seem to be getting better. I keep seeing on this subreddit about contacting a nurse that was assigned through AbbVie. I was never assigned a nurse, and I am currently receiving Humira for free for the next year through myAbbVie Assist. I tried signing up for a Humira complete account, but keep getting an error...
Mostly though, I just want to know if it's common or not for people to have a reaction that many days later.

Been intrigued in doing an at home allergy test on my dog, he's generally fine, but would be interesting to see if there was something that low key bothers him that I don't know about.
Heard that they could be a bit of a gimmick where the dog ends up being allergic to everything.

Hi! I started getting acne about a year ago and I’ve come to the conclusion it’s hormonal. I am on medication for it and I slowly think it’s getting better as well. The only thing is I babysit and the family has a dog, whenever I go to the house I feel like my skin feels so dirty/itchy on the surface. I am good with washing my hands whenever I pet the dog, I wash my haibody consistently, good hygiene ETC. It’s like I can feel it getting worse when I go there almost in a slight tingly sensation. The dog is a lab though so I don’t know if that plays into this situation or not

Throughout the years he has lost basically all his food allergies, but he is still allergic to dozens of environmental allergies.
The highlight of my day was my son (9 yo) getting to hold a kitten for the first time in his life. He is deathly allergic to all animals with fur so much so that he requires an epi-pen, and he started allergy shots only a year ago. He is still very allergic, but the allergist encouraged me to give him antihistamines and then let him pet a cat to test what his reaction would be. He got a little itchy, but was overall fine. This is pretty incredible! In the past his eyes would completely swell shut, be leaking, and he would be snotting. He would break out in a severe rash all over his body and would start puking and have to go to the emergency room.
We will do 3 more tests before I will feel comfortable enough to start taking him to stores again (because everyone brings their pets into stores, not just service animals, but everyone). Next test will be a full grown cat that has never been around dogs. The third test will be a puppy or dog that has never been around cats. Last test will be both at the same time. If he doesn't have serious reactions to any of these tests it means we can change the way we live. We can go to parks again, and he can go trick or treating for the first time. We will be able to ride on airplanes again, and go on hikes in the woods.
The allergist informed me that he would add even more cat and dog allergen into the shots this year so hopefully we could speed up the process. My son has been carrying around a little stuffed dog he named Oreo for the last 2 years in anticipation of the day he can have his own pet. He takes such good care of it. When it's cold outside, he even puts it under his coat to keep it warm.

I went over to my dad's to help mow his lawn and clean up his yard because he's no longer capable, when I came across two kittens. We had destroyed their home unintentionally while throwing away some of the trash, so I hoped their mama would come back and move them. Well, she didn't, and a dog came and tried to eat them (the front yard does not have a gate). Luckily the dog didn't because we got to them in time. Having moved them, we waited to make sure mama would come. I started thinking how they were feral and I had seen the mom who was also feral. The kittens were about 2-4 weeks old and the mom only looked like a year old herself. So I decided to try to trap her and take her in to get her and her babies adopted out.
She finally showed up late at night and we caught her, but while trying to get her into her cage she bit me, clean through some work gloves and my fingernail, several times. I had no idea their fangs could do that. Well, we got her packed up and this morning I took them to the local no-kill shelter. They let me know that when she is old enough and the kittens are weaned that they would fix her, tip her ears, and re-release her if they aren't able to find a home for her. I'm glad I did it, but my hands got mangled. I can guarantee that those kittens would have died, so at least now there won't be new kittens dying each year.

I'm in a bit of a sticky situation and could use some advice on whether I'm the AH here.
I (28M) share a two-bedroom apartment with my roommate, Sarah (26F). We've been living together for about a year and, for the most part, things have been great. We have a written agreement that covers rent, utilities, chores, and other responsibilities, including a clear no-pets policy. This is mainly because I have a mild allergy to pet dander and don't particularly want the extra responsibility or potential damage to the apartment.
A couple of weeks ago, I came home to find Sarah with a small dog. She told me she found it abandoned near her workplace and couldn't bear to leave it. She said she intended to keep it temporarily until she found it a new home or a shelter that would take it. While I was sympathetic to the dog's plight, I reminded her of our no-pets agreement and my allergy. She assured me it would only be for a few days.
Days turned into over two weeks, and the dog was still with us. My allergy symptoms were flaring up—constant sneezing, itchy eyes, and mild breathing issues. I also noticed the dog had scratched up some furniture and chewed on a couple of my belongings. I brought up my concerns to Sarah multiple times, but she kept saying she just needed a little more time to find a solution.
Last week, after yet another sleepless night due to my allergies, I told Sarah that she needed to find a place for the dog immediately or I would have to take more drastic measures. She got very defensive, saying I was being heartless and that she couldn't just throw the dog out on the street. I felt like I had no other choice, so I gave her a one-week ultimatum: either the dog goes, or she finds a new place to live.
Sarah was furious and called me an inconsiderate jerk. She argued that I was overreacting and that I should be more understanding of the situation. However, my health and the damage to my property were becoming too much for me to handle. After the week passed with no change, I told Sarah she needed to move out. She packed her things and left in a huff, taking the dog with her.
Now, Sarah has been telling our mutual friends that I'm a terrible person for forcing her out and not caring about the dog's welfare. Some of our friends think I should have been more patient and helped her find a solution, while others agree that she crossed a line by violating our agreement and disregarding my health concerns.

I thought I had a basic cold.. it started with a sore throat so ive been sucking on halls and taking some tylenol.. but my ears are itchy, the post nasal drip is unreal, i keep choking at night, dry cough, mild headache.
I just spoke with a pharmacist and they told me Reactin and Benadryl is safe to use during pregnancy. Everyone else (family/friends) are telling me otherwise. I took 1 pill and i am panicking about it now, im going to call my OB in the morning.
I just wanted to know if anyone else has been told they can take anything?

My daughter is 7 yo, she’s 47” tall and weighs around 47 lbs. she has a history of asthma, and seasonal allergies. Currently she’s taking Flovent (2 puffs once daily), Flonase and prn Zyrtec.
A little back story on her. Shes has instances of random bouts of hives (often with no discernible cause.) Her last bout of hives, she had a plain turkey sandwich with just mayo and turkey from a local sandwich shop. 30 mins later, she was complaining of joint and tummy pain. I had her relax on the couch and 30 mins after that when I took her to bed, she had full body hives and a swollen face/mouth. She ended up vomiting once and it was a large amount. It took to doses of Benadryl to calm the hives. She also later reported that during this episode she had chest tightness and a scratchy throat. We were told this was a mild anaphylactic reaction.
Fast forward to present day. Sunday she had scrambled eggs for breakfast and 20 mins later she told me she was itchy and was started to break out in hives. Gave her Benadryl and hives went away and she was fine. The next morning she woke up with another head to toe itchy rash. I got in touch with her allergist and she told me to give her 10mg of Zyrtec morning and night and to update her the following morning. Yesterday she still had the rash and was complaining of joint pain in her knee and ankle. She was sent home from school because she was limping. Her allergist wanted to see her in person. We took her in yesterday and she said the rash definitely looked like hives but she’s perplexed as to what is going on with her. She has no other symptoms (no signs of illness, no fever). Shes thinking serum sickness but she doesn’t totally fit that picture. She told us she wanted to do some research and would get back to us today, but to continue the Zyrtec. My daughter woke up this morning with a worsening rash and was much more itchy today.
We’ve literally changed nothing about her diet or laundry detergent or skin/hair products. Also no new medications. She’s been tested for environmental allergies and was positive for a certain tree and rabbits. Neither of her 2 allergists that she’s seen have felt compelled to food test or any other blood tests. Our dog (8Yo Shiba Inu) had some eye irritation last week (Eye swollen, itchy and oozing goop) - Our vet prescribed us Neomycin and Polymyzin B and Dexamethasone eye drops. They absolutely knocked the infection back in a couple days. However the eye was still swollen and itchy, our vet recommended we keep her on the drops another week to make sure everything is cleared up.
My question is - Sometime in the last week we noticed the eye we have been putting drops in was a little bit more dilated the other. We are trying to gauge if this is a symptom we should be concerned about and following up with the vet on - or if we’re just being over anxious and it’s most likely a side effect of the drops.
I don’t have a picture readily available, but I’d relate the size difference as, the seemingly normal eye being the size of a dime and the other being about that of a nickel.
Edit: Also to add, we have not noticed any major changes in her behavior. Coordination, appetite and interaction have all been what we’ve come to expect of her.

Hello, I own a 4 year old dog who suffers from allergies. Originally the vet suggested that it may be food related. I have tried various foods over the year including making my own and eliminating ingredients and still got 0 results. Now that summer is rolling around her allergies appear to be coming in full force. Her face is itchy, her groin is pink and itchy, as well as her paws and arms. The vet I go to cannot see my dog until later in June and I am completely lost on what to do. I am doing my best to quell the itching but it doesn’t seem to be working the greatest. Does anybody have any advice on good anti itch remedies or remedies to help with allergies? Any help would be appreciated

I went yesterday to get my Yorkie her Cytopoint shot she has been getting them every spring for years. But this time she is having a problem she can barely walk she stumbles around like she is drunk. She is also having strange head movements like she lays down and keeps raising her head up. She also acts like her tongue is not right and she is mouth breathing. She has not slept all night. I took her back to her vet this morning he did blood work it was fine. He gave her a cortisone shot and sent her home. She is 8 years old. I am so worried about her she is my service dog and I love her so much. The shot was given by a tech I was afraid they gave her the wrong vaccine but they said it was a new bottle out of a new box. Wondering if anyone else has had this problem or if the tech could have caused some kind of injury with the injection? Also if you have had this happen to your dog how long before they recover and did you ever get the shot again? If not is there another vaccine to help with itchy spring and summer allergies?

Okay, so I'm a little stumped here. My dog started acting sick about 5 days ago, and I thought he might just have a cold (he gets colds about twice a year and is usually a huge baby about them... took him to the vet many a time for them to tell us he just needs benadryl). However, his scrotum started to swell so I decided to take him to the vet. It didn't look excessively swollen, if anything he suddenly just looked intact again. This dog responds really overdramatically to pain (he will cry and spin to bite) and palpating it gently at home didn't seem to hurt him, but it could also be that he was just too sick/tired to react. Vet also notes him trembling after the exam, but this dog has always trembled just from anxiety in general so I'm not 100% sure if that's a pain response.
I originally thought he might have a hematoma or something, but it didn't/doesn't look anything like a hematoma and he was neutered so long ago I don't know how he would sustain enough trauma to that area to cause one. The vet says he might have an inguinal hernia, and that the intestinal loop might have descended into the scrotum which is what is causing the swelling.
The weird thing is, A. he was presenting with lethargy, low appetite, frequent drinking, etc before his scrotum started to swell (I'm sure the hernia could have descended into the scrotum after the fact but it's still something to note), and B. he's on antibiotics and carprofen now and... overnight the swelling has disappeared and his scrotum is back to normal. Obviously I'm going to keep medicating him, but just kind of strange that the swelling has completely disappeared. He is also obviously feeling much better - he is actually eating and he is wagging his tail and wanting to play.
I'm still going to get him into my primary care vet for a better abdominal ultrasound, but I just dropped a grand on him last night so I kind of have to wait and save a little money before I do it all. I do have carecredit, I just need to save up just in case this is indeed an inguinal hernia because that will be like a 2k surgery to repair it.
I've never heard of an intestinal loop/hernia descending into the scrotum (I volunteered with vets in rural shelters for many years... I haven't seen it all but I have seen a lot) and also his urinalysis showed up funny and the vet didn't have much of an explanation for that either (no shade to her, she did a great job, it's just all these weird symptoms at once).
At this point, I'm of course going to treat him the best I can and make sure he is happy/healthy/not in pain, but it's a bit of a mystery I suppose until I get him in for the better ultrasound and I was wondering if anyone here had some personal experiences about a similar situation. He is feeling much better now, as I said before, so I am not super worried about his condition worsening suddenly especially since he's on antibiotics, and if it is indeed a hernia I will keep him low activity until I am able to scrape together the money for surgery.
I also have the detailed urinalysis and bloodwork if anyone wants to look, I'll just have to take photos and black out my personal details.

28yo Female 250lbs with allergies to ammoxicylin and bactrim. Currently taking lexapro and trazodone. Nexaplanon Implant. Nonsmoker.
A couple weeks ago I had a weird episode of my entire body being extremely itchy. My first ER visit I was itchy+hives, I got a steroid shot and a script for oral steroids. Went to the doctor 4 days later because my entire body was still so itchy. I got a second steroid shot and more oral steroids. No hives after the first steroid shot.
Doctors in the ER and at my usual clinic said it was an allergic reaction and I must be continually exposing myself to whatever is causing the reaction. At first I thought it was shrimp, because I ate shrimp the day before this all started. But this whole body itch lasted 9 days. It was hell!
Nothing helped, benadryl might have stopped it from getting worse but my whole body was still so itchy. I was keeping track of what I ate and there was no common denominator.
On the 9th day my doctor ordered labs to be done on my blood to see wtf was going on. My WBC value was 17. Doctor said this is extremely high even considering the steroids I was on.
Since then the itch disappeared, and after a blood draw yesterday my WBC value went back down to 8.
My doctor essentially has no idea what caused it. She said it couldve been "some sort of infection" either viral or bacterial.
Important information is that everyone in my house was sick with the cold presenting normal symptoms while my whole body was on fire. Like I couldve had the same virus but my body reacted differently to it. But I'm not a doctor I don't know shit.
Has anyone ever seen this happen in a patient? Does anyone have any theories as to what could have caused this?

I've been recently diagnosed in the last couple of months. I live in a very dry climate and have always been extremely itchy, but this is a whole new level.
All my tattoos keep raising, my legs, back and arms are just constantly itchy. I have high quality soothing cream that isn't helping much.
I've tried taking Reactine/Cetirizine/Zyrtec and Benadryl (which makes me sleepy) and it seems to help a smidge but I'd prefer not to take it daily.
Any tips?! How do you deal? I have sensory issues and I feel like I'm losing my mind.

Been on T nearly 2 years. I've tried cypionate and enanthate (injections) as well as 1.62% gel.
The cypionate makes me itch.
The gel makes me exhausted and irritable.
The enanthate makes me feel Iike I can take over the world... or at least function as a human adult.
Well, I've had trouble getting my enanthate refilled. It's backordered everywhere.
I went back to some gel packets I had leftover. Did that for 2 weeks but was running out and started rationing them. One every other day. My mood plummeted. I was so exhausted. My T levels were so low.
My doctor put me back on cypionate yesterday since I respond well to injections. Said to take benadryl w it. I did. It's a little itchy but manageable.
And today? I feel like I can do anything! My mood is improved. I'm not dragging. I feel calm and happy. Not on edge.
And I didn't fully appreciate how bad I was feeling until I didn't feel it anymore. T is a freaking wonder drug. I feel like ME again. That's how I know it's right for me.

Alright, I know I probably sound dumb but hear me out. When I was 14 or 15 years old I ran away from home one day and these two small dogs started chasing me as I was leaving my neighborhood and they bit me on my left calf/shin area and broke skin. I remember going to the doctors sometime later and mentioning it but can't remember if I got vaccinated or not. I also never saw those dogs again and don't know if they were vaccinated. I'm now almost 26 and have health anxiety and I worry about suddenly developing rabies even though its been like 10 years. It also doesn't help that sites say different things for incubation period and I read that there was one case of it happening 10 years after exposure and another site said that it can happen 25 years after exposure. I also noticed my left leg has been itchy where the bite happened and I've been worried sick. My boyfriend thinks I'm being ridiculous.

I woke up two days ago with two itchy bites on my ankle, and it's all been a whirlwind from there. I've pretty much convinced myself that I have bedbugs living in my bed, based on the following:

1. The two bites I've described, plus some other skin irregularities/itchy patches (the latter may be imagined) I've noticed on my body.
2. A blood patch I found on my bedsheets.
3. Something I found on the floor, which I took to be a molted bed bug shell.

Now, from a rational perspective I know I'm overreacting completely. And here's why:

1. After discovering the bites, I found a mosquito in my room. Though the bites don't look like other mosquito bites I get and were somewhere that I assumed was covered by bedding while I slept. But it's still probably the mosquito, and if not, I did sit the night before in my friend's car, who recently got a dog. It's possible they could be flea bites.
2. The blood patch looked fairly old, and by Googling it seems bed bug blood patches would be smaller and darker. It's also possible either my girlfriend or I had a spot/pimple that bled in our sleep - we both have some on our back.
3. That "shell" I found was the same colour as a bed bug, but apparently their molted shells are translucent, and this one lacked any "bug parts" (antennae, legs) and had a different texture than I would expect. Could just as easily have been a seed from a bread loaf.

Nevertheless here I am tearing up my mind about bedbugs, scrutinising my mattress constantly, and washing my clothes and sheets at 60° even though I usually do 40° because it's gentler. The bedbugs subreddit does not help because everyone over there seems as anxious as me, and every "is this a bed bug/shell/egg" post gets a few yes responses despite a real diversity in the pictures posted. The thing with bed bugs is they're practically unfalsifiable: they're good at hiding, so you don't see them, their bites vary from person to person, and they can go for long periods without feeding.
Like I said, I likely don't have bedbugs. The fear stems from a budget hotel my friend booked us in to two weeks ago, which wasn't the cleanest. But I did check the mattresses there, and they seemed to pass the test. My friend actually moved on to a second hotel after I went home that did have bed bugs, and he said it was immediately noticeable. I visited India last year, and when my friend jokingly talked about bringing bedbugs home on the return flight (we didn't encounter any) the thought played on my mind for a couple weeks, but this time is more intense.
The only reprieve I get from worrying about them is when I'm distracted, like at work. I did a pretty intense yoga session yesterday and didn't think about it once, but as soon as we brought the session to a close with a meditation, they were back all over my mind.
I also know that, worse case scenario, if I did have them, I'd have to call an exterminator and be out €2000, which would be utterly shit but wouldn't kill me. It's not like the bugs can kill me or even hurt me either. I thought about calling an inspector, but I don't want to spend all that money (and probably anger my landlord) just for reassurance.
I've always been an overthinker and have struggled with anxiety throughout my life. In the past year or two, though, I've noticed some more intrusive thoughts:

1. My ex and I had a place last year and she had a cat. One day when I was leaving for work I didn't pull the door all the way closed. My ex noticed and chewed me out (another story) because it was an indoor cat. But for months afterwards this led me to coming back to the house after leaving for work (sometimes already after walking 10 minutes), coming home early, or staying home completely. At this time I also had a depressive period and my work suffered for a few months as a result.
2. After my breakup when I moved into my new place, I put a hanging plant attachment into the roof and couldn't shake the feeling I'd hit a gas line, even after my Dad (a tradesman) told me they were unlikely to be in that part of the ceiling. I left on a work trip abroad the same day and for the first day away all I thought about was returning to a blown-up apartment. I had a similar feeling when my fridge gas pipe ruptured - I thought I was gonna die in my sleep and ventilated my flat for days.
3. I'm terrified of fire, always have been, but lately I've been unplugging things every time I leave my office because I'm afraid I'll burn the whole place down. I recently quit smoking with the help of an e-cigarette, but for the first week or two I had it I was often terrified it would explode in my pocket.
4. I had an unexplainable pain in my nether regions for a few months that took A LONG TIME to diagnose (turned out to be a muscle problem). But I was constantly anxious about testicular torsion and I wondered why doctors/urologists didn't care. At one point I remember telling myself "I think you want testicular torsion just so you know you're right."
5. When I leave my house I check my balcony door is locked and that the stove is turned off, usually only once, maybe twice. Regarding unplugging things in work, I've once sent my colleague to check something in my office after I left, under false pretenses, in the hope that if something bad had happened (a fire) they would notice and catch it in time.
6. I have - very, very rarely, probably less than 5 times in my life - been consumed momentarily by thoughts of self-harm. Mostly it's fleeting like the intrusive thought I guess everyone gets occasionally, just pushing your brain to consider the worst. However, twice - once after trying SSRIs for my depressive episode and again at random more recently - I had thoughts of slitting my wrists that scared the fuck out of me and sat with me for a good few hours.

I've been in therapy before for anxiety but stopped for a while because my therapist's son got really sick and stopped all sessions. When I look at all this, written out, I'm honestly starting to convince myself that the more likely thing going on here is that I have undiagnosed mild OCD.
However, these thoughts don't normally take over my whole day - I can usually get away from them if I'm distracted, and most of the time they don't bother me unrelentingly, just mildly. Also, besides the unplugging of electronics and checking of locks - which I do not do universally - I don't really think I have any compulsions. These are things I would expect if I had diagnosable OCD, though I don't know much about the condition or the spectrum it exists within.
What are your thoughts? Does it sound like anxiety or OCD experience? I'm planning to go back to therapy next month if I can (it's hard to get appointments where I live, especially in my native language), but do you have any tips for dealing with such thoughts by myself too?

I’ve spent so much money on products trying to help her. Gone to a vet and was prescribed Temaril-P pills but they don’t help much. I have been trying to holistically strengthen her immune system with strong probiotics, colostrum and digestive enzymes. Don’t use any chemical topicals on her. I just don’t know if it’s seasonal allergies or mites or something. She’s got no fleas, though I found one on her about 3 months ago and she got very itchy from that. Can a flea allergy last this long though? I’m at my wits end and I just feel so awful for her discomfort. If I could afford it I would take her to a dermatologist but I’m sure they’re even more expensive than a vet for being specialized and LA prices I assume will be insane. If someone can please help me or can recommend me some affordable derm care here in LA, it would mean the world.
