2024.06.09 15:16 Sin-God Sanguinarch Explaner & Discussion

Hi there! For the jump relevant to this post, click here. It IS a Troyverse Ascension so this is a very powerful type of creature and by coming to this jump you become one. This is an experiment with a new type of discussion post where I talk about big beasties from various settings you can become, and the fun you can have as whatever type of creature you can become.
Have a fun future announcement: I have plans for a jump to a generic world that is secretly in the process of becoming conquered by a Sanguinarch. In my head this jump would include origins for civilians, the resistance, collaborators, and a full origin for a Sanguinarch-spawned vampire. This is a WHOLLY original idea and is very far down the docket of jumps I want to create, but it is one I want to make before the end of the year. So if you like this post, you may like whatever I end up creating at some point in the future whenever I get around to making the jump I just mentioned.

Sanguinarch Basics

Sanguinarchs are one of the five types of Troyverse ascendants alongside Archdemons, Cosmic Gods, Dragon Lords, & Transynths. Three of the four types of beings I mentioned have jumps, all of which have been created by me and are reflections of the original source CYOAs that have been jump-ified and given some QOL things that are relevant to jumpers specifically. Ascendants are beings that tap into the fundamental rules of reality in some way. Archdemons use sins, Cosmic Gods use D&D/Pathfinder style domains, Dragon Lords use draconic fonts of power, and Transynths use technology and science. Sanguinarchs use... Well, Sanguinarchs use Essence.
So at their core Sanguinarchs are supreme undead & necromancers. They are vampires that can feed on entire planets, solar systems, galaxies, and even universes at the very height of somewhat possible attainable power for their kind, becoming cosmopotences (an in-universe term for beings capable of affecting entire universes). Sanguinarchs are also notoriously flexible tricksters with a very nasty grab bag of possible tricks.
The first level of a Sanguinarch's bag of tricks are their foci; a theme around which a sanguinarch focuses themselves granting themselves a particular set of abilities and skills. There are three foci, but any Sanguinarch can take more than one foci, though such sanguinarchs are the rarest members of their kind. The three foci are cultured, dominating, and savage.
The cultured focus is for sanguinarchs who value intelligence, reasoning, non-violence, and diplomacy. It grants any sanguinarch who takes it enhanced charisma, intelligence, persuasiveness, and the ability to conduct rituals which can enact any kind of magic other than magic that transforms bodies or morphs minds on massive scales in hours, scales which would normally take even entire planets of archmages years of constant collaboration to pull off. Sanguinarchs with this focus have enhanced magic when it comes to the body and mind but only magic enhanced to the scale that a normal archmage could realistically have, which is not nothing but it pales in comparison to the rest of their magical kit.
Dominating focused sanguinarchs value control over all things and have the ability to enslave people within a few miles of them, but if they have the right major sanguine power then they can dominate everyone in a galaxy around them. These servitors are 100% loyal to you and would do anything you command. They also passively generate essence for you, giving you oath based essence (unless you've shunned the oath source) which is the only way that mind controlling someone can generate oath based essence, as normally such a font stems from oaths that are willingly sworn rather than ones that stem from supernatural influence.
The final focus is the savage focus. This is a purely physical focus and it is tremendously powerful, boosting your speed to galactic scale and giving you unbelievable power and endurance.
The foci can also be mixed and matched, in the sense that buying one does not lock you out of the other two.
Going to the next facet of the sanguinarch's toolkit, let's talk about essence. Essence is a substance that sanguinarchs can absorb and make use of, which is generated by all sorts of connections (this term is being used in a conceptual, esoteric sense here); interactions which result in blood being drawn, the devouring of one's soul, consensual sex between adults, oaths that are willingly sworn ("willingly" here does include oaths sworn under duress but not under the influence of supernatural powers), and a sanguinarch's own dominion (Remember this word, we'll circle back to it). Essence is a substance that is generated by ALL instances of the things I mentioned, blood, souls, pleasure, and oaths, but only a sanguinarch can absorb and use the substance. Sanguinarchs naturally absorb any essence created by their own actions, and can maximize the five sources that generate essence up above, which allows them to passively absorb the essence generated by their personalized types of vampiric spawn (another thing we'll get too later in this post) in the cases of blood, souls, and pleasure (provided the type of vampire in question feeds on it), and then if oaths are sworn to your vampires, and in the case of maximizing the dominion source of essence you make it easier to add places to your dominion rather than increasing how much essence the dominion feeds you.
Essence can be spent in one of three ways; it can empower an active ability (such as a spell you're about to cast), it can buff a passive trait (such as boosting your durability), and finally it can emulate a one-off instance of any kind of effect you want. This last ability takes some explaining, but a sanguinarch can spend their essence (which is a resource that once spent is gone, though it is incredibly easy to gain more) to emulate any kind of power on virtually any scale, with more impressive powers on larger scales costing fortunes in essence. A sanguinarch with this ability can do virtually anything provided they are ready to spend the right amount of essence. This ability makes sanguinarchs extremely unpredictable and dangerous. Essence MUST be spent to use this ability, even if emulating an ability you've already emulated in the past.
Now let's talk about the more direct powers & the potent servants of sanguinarchs; vampires.

Sanguinarch's Active Abilities & Vampiric Spawn

There are two types of active powers that are uniquely part of a sanguinarch's power set; major sanguine powers, and also Dominion perks.
Major Sanguine powers are powers that require no essence and are extremely simple for the vampire-like monsters to use. There are about 17 of these abilities and each of them is worth understanding. More details on each of these abilities can be found in the jump or in the source document.
Empowerment boosts your effectiveness with essence. Shadowblank makes you stunningly difficult to detect and if you are willing to spend the essence can be used on your dominion, but when used on your dominion it is somewhat more detectable than you since if someone enters the dominion they can see it. Darkness allows you and your forces to get stronger in darkness and in places attuned to darkness. Eclipse lets you shroud a place in darkness. Phylacktery is your respawn mechanic. Monstrous Command lets you command animals and monsters of all kinds. Mindlink is stunningly powerful telepathic communication. Hypnosis is a brutally powerful form of mind control dependent on making eye contact with someone but if you hit them with it you can give almost any sort of command that you can imagine so long as it's not permanent and you can stack commands on somebody. Puppetmaster lets you seize control of all sorts of moving things and people, moving them in ways that are pleasing to you, almost like straight up telekinesis. Spectral Form gives you conditional intangibility (intangible to things like enemy strikes but tangible when you want to punch someone or otherwise interact with something), and Regeneration lets you recover from virtually sort of damage instantly, unless said damage is inflicted by a being wildly stronger than you.
Trueshifting is pretty incredible shapeshifting, power emulation, and cloning. Mirrorwalk is, for all intents and purposes, instant teleportation from any one mirror to any other mirror, at least in the local multiverse. Mass Telekinesis is ridiculously powerful telekinetic abilities able to hold even quintillions of different things in space at once, even if each individual thing has the same mass of mountains. Enthrall lets you turn people into thralls, immortal, devoted supernatural servants. all of whom are enhanced sources of essence in every way, their blood, souls, and pleasure giving you more essence, as well as their oaths generating more essence over time. Absorption lets you absorb skills, knowledge, and abilities from those you get essence from, be it you targeting a teacher, or your spawn targeting a local king, and by opting to gain a bit less essence then you'd otherwise gain you can instead just copy this stuff rather than taking it from the people you target with this power. Dark brides are special types of servants you can create that are wholly bonded to you, either creating someone from nothing or turning a living person into a dark bride so long as they consent to it. Dark brides can do whatever you can as a sanguinarch but each dark bride costs more than the last with the first being free.
Let's talk about dominions. A sanguinarch's dominion is not just territory that is under their control, but a patch of space that has been so thoroughly conquered by them that the land itself recognizes their control and lordship. This happens when a significant amount of essence has been gathered and absorbed by a single sanguinarch in one continuous area (how much essence is required depends in part on the size of the space in question), which eventually renders the space vulnerable to powerful dark rituals which the sanguinarch and their homies can perform over the course of several days. When these rituals are completed the patch of space becomes a part of their dominion, and a sanguinarch's dominion feeds them essence every second, with bigger dominion's feeding them more essence. A dominion is permanently under the influence of a sanguinarch who claims it, and in the Troyverse there are plenty of places that can be under the thumb of other sanguinarch since other sanguinarchs exist but once you jump OUT of the Troyverse... Well, there's a LOT of space in all but the smallest-setting-wise jumps for you to turn into your turf. There are a total of nine perks that specifically affect a sanguinarch's dominion, bolstering it in various ways. Let's talk about them!
Sentinals are a type of guardian that, if the perk is purchased, are generated by the dominion itself (and created by it whenever you add space to your dominion, or with the right perk, whenever it sufficiently expands) and have ultra-human (planet-level) physiques as well as some vampire-like abilities. These guardians protect your dominion but cannot leave it, and if they are somehow destroyed (and it'd take a being on par with or beyond Superman to do this so it IS possible but in a lot of settings it's not especially likely) your dominion will resurrect them over the course of a few days unless you spend some essence to rebuild them. They are also completely immune to mind control or being puppeted, and are aware of everything in your dominion.
Many dominion perks are handy because they make your dominion more suitable to your minions and you in some way and pliant climate is one such perk. PC begins with a one time effect that makes a new patch of dominion more hospitable to your minions, altering reality to do something like destroying radiation that might destroy sufficiently weak lifeforms or creating landmasses for your servants to walk on, and after that effect has occurred you can personally warp reality to alter the climate in your dominion even weaponizing weather against invaders or other enemies.
Labyrinth is a perk that enhances your dominion's natural and default resistance to enemy reality warping (to such an extent that universe-scale reality warpers would struggle to use reality warping in your space), and also causes the local geography to warp and twist in reality-defying ways that make it virtually impossible for non-ascendants to escape without your permission.
Shroud is a perk that nullifies any default weaknesses you or your spawn may have to traditional anti-vampire stuff (sanguinarchs do not have such weaknesses by default though a drawback can give you some) such as sunlight, garlic, silver, or fire, so long as you or your spawn are in your dominion. If you opted to allow your spawn to be weak to stuff, particularly sunlight, this can be an incredibly handy perk to have and can give even the most disloyal vampires powerful reasons to aid you in expanding your dominion.
Obedient architecture lets you turn raw materials into grand structures instantly, so long as the required reality warping occurs in your dominion.
Gluttonous enhances how much essence you get when you are in your dominion, but this particular perk is a bit odd. The way this perk works is by enhancing ALL feeding you do on essence so long as you are in the confines of your dominion. Very importantly this enhances the potency of the dominion's passive essence production, but also bolsters every other source of essence, and can be very powerful if you strive to maximize essence production. This can also blend very powerfully with another ability we'll mention in a second.
Shadow Paths is a perk that ties together all patches of dominion in a jump (for jumper-sanguinarchs, this limitation doesn't exist for pure CYOA sanguinarchs). What this means is that your servants and those you give permission too can step into one patch of dominion and immediately enter another patch located elsewhere, even if doing so entails them stepping somewhere in North Carolina and suddenly appearing in Alaska, or on the moon. This is one of the best forms of teleportation in the Troyverse that is able to be used by ascendants, but requires the powerful setup needed to turn a place into a patch of dominion in the first place, as opposed to requiring the advanced technology other ascendants can use to swiftly and stealthy teleport en-masse. One handy aspect of this power is that it is only accessible to those you permit and only if they are loyal to you; if a vampire you converted into a vampire is somehow under enemy control they cannot use these paths at all. This is a neat defensive measure that prevents this ability from being used against you. The paths automatically appear whenever you add a patch to your dominion, connecting any and all such spaces.
Power Suppression is a very handy ability that shuts down enemy/non-allied powers so long as they are in your dominion, which if fused with something like labyrinth can be incredibly devastating. How strong this perk is depends on how much you invest in it, but frankly even the first tier makes entire settings (even ones with powered beings) unable to use their powers against your will, as a LOT of settings do not have any beings that are planet-scale.
Eminent Domain is a stunningly powerful perk that enhances your dominion in every respect. Firstly it makes it so that any abilities you use remotely do not suffer any diminishment (all ascendants are capable of using their ascendant abilities at incredible ranges so long as the area they are using their powers in are sufficiently under their influence in some way, but normally such abilities suffer some level of weakened effectiveness due to distance). This also radically bolsters your awareness of what occurs in your dominion, granting you pseudo-omniscience within the strict confines of your dominion. Lastly, and most importantly, this stunningly powerful perk allows your patches of dominion to expand themselves!
Normally a patch of dominion is static in the sense that it does not expand sans external intervention (Basically a patch of dominion's size and dimensions are determined at the moment a place is converted and normally stays that way forever). With ED this is changed and instead patches of dominion slowly expand with how quickly they expand being determined by whether or not you maximized the dominion essence source (and a requirement that feedings occur in the patch of dominion in question). Think of it this way; it's easier for a sanguinarch who has patches of dominions in banks where vampire bankers get people to swear oaths via bank loans to watch their patches expand than a sanguinarch whose patches are in barren deserts to watch their patches expand. That's not to say it can't be done, the desert-owning sanguinarch can turn serial killers into vampires, have them take their victims to the dominion patches and feed on them in there, but that IS more complex than the setup for the banking sanguinarch I also mentioned.
Fully understanding and maximizing the power of the dominion is difficult but it's worth it. A sanguinarch with a few perks is an impressively powerful lord of any space they turn into their dominions, and a sanguinarch with ED can slowly and cautiously watch their dominion expand without having to do the rituals. It's dope.
Now let's talk about vampric spawn! I'm not gonna go over every facet of this, as there's a lot of individual options that'd need to be discussed. but vampiric spawn are a SPECIFIC type of vampire created by a sanguinarch. A sanguinarch can turn anyone in the same planet into a vampire spawn, and even gods are not immune to this transformation, neither are animals, demons, or any supernatural beings unless they are on par with an ascendant themselves. It's also stunningly difficult to resist this transformation, so someone can do something like catch Superman off guard and turn him into one of your spawn.
There are a number of reasons why sanguinarchs want vampiric spawn, but for a lot of sanguinarchs vampiric spawn will be best viewed as a way to speed up one's ability to gather essence. When deciding your builds you have three options when it comes to all five sources of essence; you can "shun" them, you can leave them unaltered, or you can maximize them. "Shunning" a source means you never get essence from it (but this does not make them useless, as dominions can get still benefit from dominion perks AND turning an area into a dominion can stop other sanguinarchs from doing so, though this would only be useful in Troyverse jumps), leaving it alone means you can get essence from instances of the source caused by you and you alone, and maximizing the source means that any actions that are relevant to the source that your spawn cause (that in the case of blood, pleasure, and souls they can FEED on) generates essence for you (which is relevant both for the purposes of the absorption sanguine major power and for the purposes of eventually creating new patches of dominion). This means that vampiric spawn are more than handy servants, they can be vital expanders of your empire.
A sanguinarch can customize vampiric spawn they create in a number of ways by purchasing options in the vampiric spawn customization section of the jump doc. If a sanguinarch went bonkers on this section their maxed out vampires would be fucking stacked with modifiers like enhanced beauty, an ability to grow stronger from feeding (and it being a carving rather than a necessity), fanatical loyalty to you, the ability to mesmerize people, fly, turn into mist, and shapeshift, as well as physiques that are 100 times the peak for their species. These vampires would be tremendously powerful servants, and could make for incredible followers.

Sanguinarch Thoughts & Musings

Now that we've spent a beat discussing the facets of sanguinarch stuff that will persist across jumps, let's talk a bit about thoughts & musings related to sanguinarchs!
Sanguinarchs are hands down the best territory-type ascendants. Their ability to conquer a place so thoroughly that they turn it into their dominion is fucking wild given what dominion perks can do to a place, and a properly stealthy sanguinarch can do it before people even realize that something fucky is going on. Even in modern police states sanguinarchs with the right builds can be masters of subtlety and stealth, or can just blitz a place so fast that no one has a chance to resist (this is especially true for dominating sanguinarchs).
I really like the versatility and flexibility of sanguinarchs, as the emulate function of essence and stuff like shadowblank and mindlink are so fantastically potent that they are just nightmarishly powerful in the right hands.
A sanguinarch that opts to not be watered down and instead has the full functionality of a CYOA sanguinarch rather than my suggested edits to make the power of a sanguinarch more approachable can enter a setting and turn everyone in their home world into a vampire in an instant, or can dominate entire communities in a second, In some respects this is just beyond what other ascendants can do (though all ascendants can buy greater megapowers which can allow other ascendants to emulate a sanguinarch with the right focus). Manifold ascendants that are sanguinarchs AND other things can instantly create cults to themselves and, assuming they are an archdemon, dragon lord, or cosmic god, immediately begin to gain power from the worship power source.
As a stealth-type jumper person I really really like the potency of a sanguinarch's many abilities that either revolve around stealth or allow for it, with powers like eclipse and shadowblank being perennial favorites of mine. I also love that there are powers that revolve around knowing more than others and hiding in the dark, giving boosts to your other powers if you are just smarter than your foes or if you are a sneaky sneak. One fascinating aspect of the darkness power is how it can synergize with absorption, since you can drain knowledge from foes with strikes, which makes your other abilities stronger against them.
Here are some fun ideas for interesting targets to turn into vampiric spawn or otherwise use in a story with a jumper sanguinarch.
A serial killer who will now eagerly dedicate their kills to you, and who is happy to target anyone you wish to see killed.
A cop who needs to find the people who kidnapped her brother. Now armed with vampiric powers she will investigate her brother's kidnapping with brutal efficiency.
A priest having a crisis of faith whose mind is exceptionally loud one night when you are scanning nearby minds. Now he worships you rather than whatever god he once believed in.
A high school queen bee who is afraid of the future or growing old and is eagerly willing to cavort with dark forces once she realizes they are real and willing to help her, for a price. This one can be really fun if you turn her friend into a vampiric spawn and dangle the prospect in front of her but instead use some of your abilities to do stuff like enhance her but not give her the immortality she craves.
A promising athlete who was critically injured and is desperate to recover and rebuild their career.
A politician who craves more and more power, and is happy to make dark deals.
A terminally ill child with parents who are desperate to see them get better, and who will pay any price if it means their child has a miracle. And to keep paying for their child's continued health.
Sanguinarchs CAN be brutal overlords who conquer places with force, and that can be a lot of fun given how incredibly powerful the savage focus is (and how much scarier it can be with stuff like spectral form and regeneration). Sanguinarchs can also be shadowy deal makers who have fun putting things in place and watching how they move once they are positioned in front of each other.
There are some very inventive ways for a sanguinarch to get essence. One of my favorites is to create vampires that are, for all intents and purposes, succubi and have them run brothels where they sell themselves at incredibly low prices and have them feast on horny peeps. Another way I really like is to create charisma based vampires and turn banks into dens for my vampirism, or turn places like lending agencies into hives of my vampires.
Certain places are also very likely to be targeted by me whenever I create sanguinarchs (be they CYOA or jump sanguinarchs); hospitals and prisons. My sanguinarchs are invariably predatory assholes and they recognize how desperate people can be after a difficult doctor's visit, and they also see prisons as places that are incredibly easy to turn into patches of their dominion, whether it's turning desperate and scared prisoners into vampires or giving prison guards and staff the power to more easily and safely corral the prisoners.

Conclusion

I honestly just really like sanguinarchs. They have such fun and varied power sets, and can dramatically expand their toolkits with stuff like Absorption and the emulate function of their ability to manipulate essence. Sanguinarchs and Transynths are the oddest of the ascendants, but I have such fun with both of their power sets and it can be so rad to see what sort of mischief a sanguinarch jumper can get up too while turning a place into a part of their dominion.
I hope this overview helps you think more keenly about sanguinarchs and their eerie meshes of abilities. If you've ever run a sanguinarch jumper, or have plans to do so I'd love to hear all about them!

2024.06.09 14:43 Alexis5899 I need your help/opinion/experience. (Ayuda)

You see, this is going to sound very contradictory, but throughout my life, I have had "paranormal" experiences. I have seen everything from shadows to deceased people making an appearance, orbs, and other things I can't explain. This has been happening to me since I was about 4 or 5 years old. I am currently 25, and from childhood until around 18, I experienced many "paranormal" situations, some more intense and disturbing than others. Although my family seems to have a history of these events, it makes me think. However, at the same time, I refuse to believe that these things have actually happened to me. But if there is something I hate more than being able to see these things, it's hearing them. Hearing them? Yes, that's what I want to address with this long introduction.
To those who believe in entities and such, have you ever heard incomprehensible whispers? Since I was 18, I hadn't had any paranormal experiences until around the age of 22-24. These recent events have affected my mental health, and while one of them might have been pure suggestion, the last one had no reason behind it.
Here's what I think was due to suggestion: my grandfather, in his last days or weeks before passing away, would tell me he saw a dog passing under the table in his house (I was taking care of him). I never paid attention to it because I knew the dogs were outside the house, and he described this dog as medium to large-sized. One afternoon, unlike before, I decided to look for this so-called dog, but unsurprisingly, I couldn't find it. Later that night, I had a dream that was vividly accurate to what was happening around me while I was dreaming. I was sitting, watching my grandfather, the TV was on a news channel, and suddenly this dog appeared. I was paralyzed and could do nothing but insult and try to scare it away. The dog bit my hand, and when I woke up a few seconds later, my hand felt cramped, a bit painful, numb, and tingling. Anyway, 90% of the incidents I've experienced have been at my grandfather's house (I used to sleep over from Saturdays to Sundays with him from the age of 4 or 5 until he passed away when I was 22).
When I was 16/17, I saw a very ugly woman looking at me menacingly through the glass of my door. I got scared and covered my head, and then I felt someone climb on top of me, preventing me from removing the covers. Since that day, I have never covered my head again. At 18, I worked at a 4-star spa hotel in a rural area where wealthy people would go to relax. On my first night, I was given a car to transport items needed by other employees, whether it was cleaning supplies or for the chefs. I also had to set the alarm for the event rooms. On my third day, around 9 PM, I was heading to an event room to deliver items because there was an event the next day. As I arrived with the cart (the event rooms had panoramic views, meaning the walls were made of glass), I saw a lady about 70-80 years old looking out from inside. I walked halfway through the room, greeted her as I passed the door, but got no response. The next day, the same thing happened. Only this time, when I turned around, the lady was no longer there, and I thought I was going crazy. Over time, I would be in places where the lights would turn on by themselves, I would feel scared to be alone, sometimes music would start playing on its own in other rooms, or I would hear noises in the kitchens. And this always happened when I was alone. On my last day of work, I told this entity, who other employees said was the owner's mother named Berta, "Well, this is the last time we see each other, but you won't be able to scare me anymore." Immediately after, I closed a metal hatch, and after taking a few steps, I heard a terrible noise as if someone had hit that metal door. Obviously, I was scared out of my mind, but I kept repeating to myself, "She can't win," and walked away slowly.

Now, in my new job, things have also happened... I work in a flour mill. One night, I finished my shift and had to stay for the next day. The power went out around 11 PM and didn't come back until 3 AM, at which point I went to take a shower. After a few minutes, I started hearing murmurs behind me that I couldn't understand. I thought they were my colleagues, but they weren't. Among these 3 or 4 voices, there was a female one, and that's when I realized I was actually alone. There are no women at my workplace, especially not at 3 AM. I let it go, thinking I was tired, but a few weeks later, around 7 or 8 PM, while I was using the bathroom, I heard these voices again inside my noise-canceling headphones. They are always incomprehensible, indecipherable whispers. Occasionally, a female voice calls my name.

...................................... ......................................

Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump? Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened.
As many have already said on this subreddit, Cut off the sin, cast it away!
And we think "Oh I only watched pornography, I didn't climax" You have still sinned! Lust is lust! Leaven is leaven! And even a little bit of it has leavened the whole lump! You are set apart for Christ, you are a special bread, known for its purity and sanctity, then do not associate with this!
Our goal should not only be to "quit fapping" it should be to quit lust as a whole! Even if this might seem impossible for you, that you think it can never be done, this is what the Lord says! :
But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
Don't say "I only watched, but didn't touch" that is like saying "I drank 5 ounces of poison, not the whole bottle", is the poison still not poison? is it still not harmful to you? It's still the same poison that would harm you!
If then we are dead to sin, how then can we continue in that same sin? Then it can only mean one thing, you are truly not dead to it, you are still in the sin.
To die to the sin is to leave it, to truly repent of it, to say to it "I will never again lust!" and to commit to God, You need to offer the sin on the altar, sacrifice your flesh and its desires on the cross, be raised up in Christ in spirit, not in flesh, by the power of The Holy Spirit.
And we can never do this until and unless we learn to find pleasure in serving God! Because we keep using ourselves, our time, energy, passion and hunger into sin and lust, and we are fulfilled with worldly things, that we don't even go to God for our desires! We keep eating and drinking of the and satisfying ourselves, that we do not starve and thirst for the Lord's bread and His eternal water!
Starve your flesh and sin in you, that you may hunger for His manna and quail, thirst for His eternal water, that will make you thirst no more!
Because it is written "Man shall not live by bread alone, but from every word that comes from the mouth of God"
May God bless you, and give you the strength to keep to His path, and may he satisfy your desires of your heart with good things.. The Lord be with you brothers and sisters!

2024.06.09 14:15 AbnormalVAverage Found a Publisher

Howdy folks,
This is very long, so I put a tl:dr near the bottom.
I've posted a few times here over the last year or so. It's been...an interesting time since I first placed my novel on RR last July. The purpose of this post is to talk about what I did, who I talked to, and the results of my efforts thus far. I'm not one of those 23423423 follower authors. I don't write specifically within the niche genre that RR is looking for. The best way to describe my story is a dungeon core explorative comedy. But there are as many downs as there are ups, which really screwed me in the ratings department according to those who commented before throwing the .5's down.
See, the secret to my success is...I'm lazy. I had a plan to write a story named Grey, and have it poke fun at LitRPG, Londoners, and anyone who enjoys drinking dirty water...I mean tea. But, I didn't want to sit in front of my computer for months just worldbuilding. Why should I care if they place forks on a different side of spoons in a certain country at 12:00 midnight? So, I had a sudden idea during an insomniac-driven evening. Why not just write a book about a guy literally building worlds. Then I get the culture-driven worldbuilding out of the way, while also having a fun story I can use to build up everything I wanted to have. And thus, I started writing Creation.
I started by breaking the cardinal sin according to Rising Star ascenders.
I posted one chapter at a time.
I was new to author'ing (Swear its a word), new to posting on RR, and just generally trying to have a good time. I got a little bit of traction, but once I had twenty chapters down, my story started to take off as people were interested in where I was going. Problem was, I didn't know where I was going. I wrote wayyyy too much in the pre-chapter content, often pushing people out of my story altogether as they just wanted to read what I wrote about my protagonist, not about myself. I lost quite a few people to my main character's emotional state, the ups and downs of a regular guy being thrown into an impossible situation. I then lost further readers when they realized my character wasn't a murderhobo, and instead focused on inner enlightenment that didn't have to do with universe juice.
But, against all odds, the story continued to pick up followers.
I did hit Rising Stars, getting as high as the top 20 of the main page, before I watched it inevitably drop out right after, as my time was up. However, not long after, I struck the main page of trending. And I stayed there, and I stayed there, and I stayed there. I just kept staying on trending for months. Even now, I'm on my sub-genre's pages for trending, rarely dropping off the main page unless it's for a few days or weeks. I swapped shout-outs, never did review swaps which got me quite a few negative ratings when I explained myself (Don't do that. Just don't respond if you don't want to), and spoke with my fellow authors every so often.
Once I started pushing 1800 followers, I started looking around at publishers. My story, Creation, had just hit a little over 1200 pages in about 6 months. To web-serialists, that's not a lot, but to me that's a shit ton. I knew about Aethon, Portal, Podium, and a few others were all publishing within my genre. But, the one I wanted the most was the only one I applied to. I just had to figure out if they would accept me and my foibles.
The thing about writing styles is, once you have one, it's slightly hard to break. I have a bachelors degree in English and Pyschology, but before I earned them, I was a television anchor for...the Air Force. Yeah, it turns out they need tv reporters for the military, so they can get news out to all the servicemembers out there. Which means my first formal training in writing was about writing for the ear, not the eye. That writing style stuck to me, and caused my story to have a particular cadence to it, if you will. That style also lends itself to audiobooks in a powerful way. And who are the best at audiobooks right now?
Podium Audio.
So I applied, then I forgot about it. I figured the story wasn't big enough to warrant any response, but lo and behold, a random email found its way into my inbox a month or so later.
I setup a meeting, attended the meeting, and left happy from the meeting. A great deal for me, with a guaranteed audiobook due out in the next year or so.
I attribute my success to a few things, which I'll go over below. I'll also include a tl:dr because of how much I placed here.
tl:dr
Lazy guy write story, it ok
He poops up on RR, still somehow find success
Rising star, yes, is good
He go, I need publisher, publisher good. Find
success
Steps I took that I think affected my odds the most:
Obviously just gaining followers. Ads, RS, Shout-outs, posting on subreddits, and sitting on trending for long periods of time.
Consistency is key. I rarely miss chapters, and if I do, I warn wayyyyy ahead of time.
Comments. I don't reply to the TFTC's, but I reply to most others as it doesn't hurt me and lets people get a word in with the author. If someone points out errors or grammar issues, I thank them just about every time. They're going to be a big help when I'm doing my edits.
When I wrote my publisher, in the other section, I talked about metrics. Expected age groups, plan for the future, my goals, and so-on.
Nailed the meeting because I'm naturally super amazing! No. I was professional and personable. Told some jokes, explained my story well (I think), and never lied. I also gave hard dates for when I'd have everything done.
So that's about it. I hope this is helpful for everyone. For those who inevitably ask about writing styles, I've been told by big-name authors that your style is decided by the end of your first 1 million words. So that tells me, write and write and write. As Sean Connery says in Finding Forrester, "You're the man now, dawg."
That's not right. No, what he says is this, "The key to writing, is to write."
Thank you for attending my lecture (teacher for a living)

2024.06.09 13:58 shiitescalendar martyrdom of imam al jawad a.s

The Characteristics Of Al-Mu’tasim
Foolishness
Al-Mu’tasim was foolish. Historians described him that when he became angry, he did not care whom he killed or what he did.
Dislike Of Knowledge
Al-Mu’tasim disliked knowledge and hated learned people. There was a servant with him who read with him in the book. The servant died and ar-Rasheed said to al-Mu'tasim, ‘O Muhammad, your servant died.’ Al-Mu'tasim said, ‘O yes, my master! He died and rested from the book.’ Ar-Rasheed said, ‘The book will rest from you. (to his men) Leave him! Do not teach him!’ Al-Mu'tasim remained illiterate. When he became the caliph, he did not know reading and writing and his vizier was unlearned. Ahmed bin Aamir described him by saying, ‘An illiterate caliph and an unlearned vizier.’3 He was divested of knowledge, virtue, and any good quality, by which he was supposed to deserve the caliphate in Islam that was the highest and most important position on which justice and equity among people depended. Al-Mu'tasim’s heart was full of spite and malice against Imam al- Jawad (a.s). He burst with rage whenever he heard the virtues and exploits of Imam al-Jawad (a.s) being mentioned. His envy towards him had led him to assassinate him as we shall explain later on.
Bringing Imam Al-Jawad To Baghdad
Al-Mu'tasim had ordered Imam al-Jawad (a.s) to come to Baghdad and he arrived in it in Muharram, 220 AH.9 When Imam al-Jawad (a.s) came to Baghdad, al-Mu'tasim house- arrested him to know all his affairs and activities. He ordered his men to watch him and he prevented him from connecting with his followers and those who believed in his imamate. Mu'tasim ordered Umm al-Fadhl to poison the Imam, and her brother Ja'far ibn Ma'mun, the accursed one, also helped and provoked her. she poisonedn bunch of grapes, and placed it in front of him. When the Imam had eaten from it, she regretted and went on to cry. He-asws said: ‘What makes you cry? By Allah-azwj! May Allah-azwj Strike you with sterility not to be restored, and affliction which cannot be veiled!’ She died in an illness, a hole appeared in the most covered of places of her body parts (private part). She spent her wealth and entirety of what she had owned, upon that illness, to the extent that she became needy to be nourished. And it is reported that the hole was in her private part. The accursed Umm al-Fadhl also contracted leprosy and descended into Hell in disgrace in the desert, and the dogs tore her body apart.
hemlock poison, whose characteristic was that it made the blessed feet of the Imam so heavy that he could no longer walk, and it made the Imam extremely thirsty, such that like his forefather Imam al Husayn a.s he said: 'Al-Atash, al-Atash' (The thirst, the thirst)... The wicked Umm al-Fadhl ordered the maids to beat drums and tambourines and dance so that his voice would not reach anyone's ears. Finally, Imam Jawad, peace be upon him, was martyred in loneliness on the dirt of his room while in exile. For three days, his blessed body remained on the rooftop of the house, and after that, Umm al-Fadhl threw the pure body down from the roof to the ground. The Shias took the blessed corpse and buried it on the 2nd of Dhu al-Hijjah in the presence of Imam al Hadi, peace be upon him.
‘When allegiance was pledged to Al-Mutasim, he went on to check his situation. He wrote to Abdul Malik Al-Zayyat to dispatch to him Al-Taqi-asws and Umm Fazl. Al-Zayyat dispatched Ali Bin Yaqteen to him-asws. He-asws prepared and went out to Baghdad. He honoured him-asws, and revered him-asws, and sent Ashnas bearing the gifts to him-asws and to Umm Al-Fazl Then he sent a drink of citron juice to him-asws under his seal upon the hands of Ashnas. He said, ‘Commander of the faithful has got Ahmad Bin Abu Dawood, and Saeed Bin Al-Khaeyb, and a group from the well-known people to taste it, and he orders you-asws to drink from it with the water of snow, and he has made it just now, and he says, ‘Drink it at night’. He-asws said: ‘It is beneficial (when) cold, and the snow has melted’. And he insisted upon that, so he-asws drank it knowing of their deeds. (The book) ‘Al Manaqib’ of Ibn Shehr Ashub –V4 p 416

Cause of Imam’s martyrdom
It is mentioned in Tafsir Ayyashi that a man named Zarqan was a close friend of Qadi Ibne Abi Dawud. He narrates: One day when Qadi Ibne Abi Dawud came to me, he was highly distraught. I asked him what the matter was and he told me in a plaintive tone, “Alas! If I had only passed away twenty years ago instead of being humiliated!” When I asked him to explain, he said, “Today, Abu Ja’far Muhammad Ibne Ali humiliated me in the presence of the chief of believers, Mutasim.” “What happened exactly?” I asked. “A thief came to the chief of believers and said: I am a thief. Please issue the Islamic penalty to me and purify from my sin.” Mutasim summoned all the jurists including Abu Ja’far Muhammad Taqi and asked us from where the hand should be chopped. I told him from the wrist. When the Caliph asked me for the proof, I said that the Quran has mentioned cutting off the hand of the thief and the word of ‘yad’ implies the hand from the wrist as mentioned in the verse of Tayammum: “…then wipe your faces and your hands…”Surah Nisa 4:43 And the whole nation has consensus that here the word of ‘yad’ implies the hand from the wrist. So it similarly applies for the thief as well and his hand must be cut from the wrist. For some time there was dispute among the jurists with regard to my verdict and some suggested that his hand should be cut off from the elbow relying on the verse of ablution: “…and your hands as far as the elbows…”Surah Maidah 5:6 After that Caliph Mutasim glanced at Imam Muhammad Taqi (a) and said, “Abu Ja’far, what is your opinion regarding this issue?” “The jurists of the community have mentioned their views; now what is the need of my opinion?” Inspite of his reluctance, the Caliphate insisted. He said, “If you are insisting so much; then listen: all the jurists have erred and issued a verdict that is opposed to the Sunnah. The Islamic legal penalty for the thief is that his four fingers must be cut off from the root leaving his palm intact.” “What is your reasoning for that? Mutasim asked. “It is the statement of Messenger of Allah (s) that during prostration (Sajdah) comprises placing the following seven parts of the body on the floor: forehead, both hands, both knees and toes of both feet. If the hand is amputed from the wrist how that person would perform Sajdah? Whereas Almighty Allah has mentioned in Surah Jinn: “And the places of prostration are Allah’s…”Surah Jinn 72:18 It implies the parts placed in Sajdah. “…therefore call not upon any one with Allah.”Surah Jinn 72:18 That is along with those places of prostration do not include anyone else with Allah. Hence whatever comes into the ownership of Allah cannot be cut off.” Mutasim was highly impressed at this reasoning and he ruled that the fingers of that thief be cut off. I was shattered by this verdict and I wished that I had died before issuing such a judgment and facing such humiliation. Zarqan says: That same Qadi visited Mutasim after two days and said: I am here because of my concern for you and I also know that as a result of that my abode shall in Hell. “What do you mean?” asked Mutasim. Qadi said, “O chief of believers, when you gather the scholars and jurists in your court and inquire about their legal verdicts, at that time not only scholars are present, on the contrary, your family members, ministers and your scribes etc are also present and later on these reports are circulated all over the country. But last time you really did something extraordinary! Ignoring the views of all the scholars and jurists of the Ummah, you adopted the verdict of Abu Ja’far. Whereas you should have taken into consideration the fact that from before also a large number of people from the nation believe in his Imamate and they imagine that you have usurped power that was rightfully Abu Ja’far’s. In spite of that you overlooked the verdicts of all the jurists and applied his opinion. This would weaken the foundations of your rule.” Mutasim’s became terribly infuriated and he said, “You have rendered a good advice; may God give you a good reward.” After that the Caliph ordered his minister to invite Abu Ja’far for dinner and poison the food. So that minister invited the Imam for dinner, but the Imam excused himself. The minister said, “We have only invited you for dinner, so that your presence would bring auspiciousness from God and so and so ministers of the Caliph would also like to meet you.” Finally the Imam attended the dinner and then realized that the food was poisoned. He asked them for the mount in order to return, but the host said, “Why the haste? Please stay some more.” Imam said, “It is better that I leave your place and go home.” After that he was in severe pain for a day and then finally passed away Tafsir Ayyashi, Vol. 1, Pg. 319; Biharul Anwar, Vol. 50, Pg. 5.

  1. Ahmad ibn Idris has narrated from from Muhammad ibn Hassa’n from abu Hashim Ali-Ja‘fari who has said the following. “Once I prayed with abu Ja‘far (a.s.) in the Mosque of Ali-Musayyib. He lead the prayer with us and as to the direction of Makka he stood up facing straight. He also has said that a berry tree that was in the Mosque had dried up and had no leaves. The Imam (a.s.) asked for water and prepared himself under that tree for prayer. The berry tree came alive with leaves and fruits in that year.”

He said, “O Muhammad, has something happened to the family of al-Faraj (the governor of al-Madina )?” I said, “Yes, ‘Umar (a member of al-Faraj family) has died.” The Imam (a.s.) said, “All thanks and praise belongs to Allah.” He said it twenty four times. I then said, “My master, had known it would make you this happy I would have come to running and bare foot with the news (to congratulate you).” The Imam (a.s.) said, “Do you not know what he –may Allah condemn him- once had said to Muhammad ibn Ali, my father?” The narrator has said that I said, “No, I do not know it.” The Imam (a.s.) said, “He spoke to my father about an issue and then said to him, “I think you are drunk.” My father then had said, “O Lord, if you know that I have been fasting this day, then make him test the taste of al-A ‘war, and the humiliation of captivity.” By Allah, in just a few days his belongings were looted and he was captured and know he is dead-may Allah deprive him of His mercy. Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most gracious, has exacted revenge from him and He continues to exact revenge for His friends from His enemies.

  1. Ali ibn Muhammad has narrated from Sahl ibn zd from Dawud ibn al-Qasim al-Ja‘fari who has said the following “Once I went to see abu Ja‘far (a.s.) and I had a few questions on three pieces of materials with proper markings and they were mixed as such that I could not distinguish. I felt sad. He picked one and said, “This is the letter of Ziyad ibn Shabib.” Then he picked up the other one and said, “.This is the letter of so and so.” I became awe struck. He looked at me and smiled.” The narrator has said that the Imam (a.s.) then gave me three hundred Dinars and asked me to deliver them to the certain persons of the sons of his uncle and said, “He will ask you to show him a professional person who would help him to buy goods, help show him one.” The narrator has said that I then went to him and gave him the Dinars and asked me, “O abu Hashim, can you show me a professional person who would help me to buy goods.” I said, “Yes, I can do so.” The narrator has said that a camel man asked me to speak on his behalf to abu Ja‘far (a.s.) to take part in certain matters of his affairs. I went to see him (abu Ja‘far (a.s.) to speak to him but he was having meal with a group of people and I did not get a chance to speak to him. He (abu Ja‘far (a.s.) said, “O abu Hashim, eat. He placed food before me. Then he said, initiating and without any question from me, “O slave, take good care of the camel-man that abu Hashim has brought for us. Keep him with you.” The narrator has said that one day I entered a garden along with him and said, “May Allah take my soul in service for your cause, I am addicted to eating fig. Pray to Allah for me.” He was quite and then after three day on his own initiation he said, “O abu Hashim, “Allah has removed your addiction.” Ever since it is the thing that I hate most.”

  1. Ali ibn Muhammad has narrated from certain persons of our people from Muhammad ibn al-Rayyan who has said the following “Al-Ma’mun did all he could to prove that abu Ja‘far, Muhammad ibn Ali al-Rida (a.s.) was only a young man of worldly desires. However Al-Ma’mun could not succeed. When he became frustrated he gave his daughter in marriage to abu Ja‘far, Muhammad ibn Ali al-Rida (a.s.). For the ceremony he sent two hundred most beautiful entertaining girls each with a bowl in her hand with a precious pearl in it to well come abu Ja‘far, Muhammad ibn Ali al-Rida (a.s.) when he would sit on the special seat prepared for him. They, however, were not of any attraction to the Imam (a.s.) to disturb him. There was a man called Mukhariq who had a voice, musical skills, a guitar and a tall beard. Al-Ma’mun called him and he said, “O Amir al-Mu’minin, if he is a worldly man I will prove myself as dealing him deadly blows on your behalf.” He sat in front of abu Ja‘far, Muhammad ibn Ali al-Rida (a.s.) and began to bray a hee-haw that made all the people of the house gather around him. He began to play his guitar and sing. He did it for an hour but abu Ja‘far (a.s.) did not pay any attention to the right or left. Then he (a.s.) raised his head and said, “O you, tall bearded one, be pious before Allah.” The narrator has said that the musical instrument and guitar fell off his hand and he could not use his hands thereafter until he died. When Al-Ma’mun asked him about his condition he said, “When abu Ja‘far (a.s.) expressed his disappointment at me it struck me with a huge degree of fear from which I have not been able to relieve myself ever since.”

2024.06.09 13:47 Highwinds129385 Over A Year Ago I Posted about my Playthrough as an Unmasked Undead in DOS2. in Act 1.. It took some time, but here's my final update for the rest of the game.

My Original Post: https://www.reddit.com/DivinityOriginalSin/comments/10my6dd/doing_a_maskless_undead_playthrough_heres_all_the/
Prologue: The prologue being an actual challenge was fun. Having to figure out how to get past the first few guards without dying and getting XP from everyone at the top of the ship because they try to attack you right away is always a nice bonus too.
Act 1: While Act 1 was cool, with a lot of unique interactions and a couple of hidden voice lines who actually acknowledge that you're unmasked, the rest of the game didn't have quite as much reactivity. Sahelia and Magister Locke being blind and able to speak with me were the other major highlights there of course.. Surprised Larian added voice lines for a playstyle that you're told not to do several times. I've included those voice lines if anyone wanted to see them at the bottom of the post in a video.
Act 2: In Act 2 it was mostly a murderhobo's dream. Driftwood was unquestable, and everyone other than the Drudanei addicts refused to speak with me (I guess it makes sense they are currently high so a skeleton isn't too shocking?). The surprising part was the source teachers didn't react to my Undead appearance. They were all able to be spoken with, and the Elves after saving Saheila welcomed me. Finally giving me access to vendors.
The weird part was after getting the spirit vision spell most of the ghosts of the world still were afraid of me. Not sure if intended or not. Do ghosts fear skeletons?
Pretty much the only quests that weren't totally broken in act 2 were the source teachers/main story ones but since there's a lot of XP to be earned I left act 2 around level 15 and without issue.
Act 3 was pretty much unchanged. There's not a lot of people you meet anyways, but in the elf tree settlement area they welcomed me into the city & turned on me immedialtey afterwards.... None of them wanted anything to do with me there. The Shadow prince reacted the same way, but the black ring soldiers were kind to me. They had some reactivity to the fact I'm undead (but I think they do regardless of me being masked or not? not sure tbh). The cooler part was that they actually accepted me as they also have undead soldiers.
Act 4 is a nightmare when played this way. You have to fight all the pilgrims all the voidwolken, and all the citizens on the way to Arx. The one surprise was lord linder kemm wouldn't attack me and would speak to me without any mention about my apperance. (Makes sense when you know who he is). Still a little weird he didn't call me out on being a literal skeleton though. Lord Ahu would also speak to me... kind of? The first time he spoke to me and did his usual story. Left his prison, and then was angry at me for the rest of the game. The toymaker was the first of the main story characters who refused to speak with me, but as I'd played the game enough times I at least knew how to continue.
Entering the tomb of the divine was just killing everyone on the way and it got to the point of annoyance. I just wanted to finish up lol. I was a little disapointed there was no reactivity in the rest of the game after Act 1 though. (Much like baldur's gate 3... you can tell act 1 gets the most love in Larian's games)
Since my previous post I had created a youtube channel to document my challenge runs instead of posting on reddit so if you're interested in video format here you go: (If you only want to hear the unique maskless voicelines you can go to them at timestamps: Zalaskar 4:48 and Malady 7:05 ) <- These Voicelines were really the hidden gem that I was happy to find at least.

2024.06.09 13:23 VeryFurryLittleBunny Question

Hello, I don't know much about religion or the Bible; my parents didn't believe in it. Long story, short, I have had multiple chronic illnesses since I was just a baby. When I was younger, I used to stay up on Christmas eve, and, at the stroke of midnight, I'd beg God to cure me thinking it was the holiest night of the year. Year after year, I'd beg. As I grew older, kids bullied and rejected me. No one would date me (which is really tough on a girl). People took advantage of me. All of my adult partners have been abusive. I grew up bitter, angry, resentful, and violent. I cursed God. I stole things, and I've done a lot of other bad stuff. I'm still that way when i have a tough health day/don't feel good at all. I am literally the black sheep. As I grow older, I've searched for the "why," and found nothing. I've watched, " The Chosen" seven times now. I want to believe that there is a God/Jesus like that show shows -- someone who will forgive me and who will let me into heaven. Someone who can end my life-long suffering. Someone who can tell me "why me...an innocent baby"...without saying something trite like "because sin is in the world." So, I guess my questions are, "Why me? A completely good and innocent baby?" And... "Why did he abandon me my entire life?" And... "Will he forgive me?" As I age, my health is getting worse. I'll be dying in 20 years or so. I look forward to my life's end. It's been so hard living like this....and it's been so hard trying to understand and accept that this has been my life...while the rest of my family is perfectly normal. It's just been an awful life, and it's so, so very unfair.

2024.06.09 13:19 Cult_of_Personality1 I feel extremely lost from my faith

I had this addiction for so many years, every single time I try to quit i fail. If i manage to go a few days without it then when i finally relapse i do it so many times in one day. Last week I have stopped doing my prayers because I always asked Allah to help but I feel like I was being rejected. I cannot even let go of this sin no matter how hard I try, so I've basically given up and always watch it and masturbate. I feel like i dont belong here anymore and i dont feel the connection when i pray. I dont feel much regret for my sins anymore because I used to always regret it but I still couldnt stop. None of my duas feel like they're being answered I feel hopeless. It's been too many years.

2024.06.09 12:42 Alliejam1 ACIM WORKBOOK LESSON 161

LESSON 161. Give me your blessing, holy Son of God.
Today we practice differently, and take a stand against our anger, that our fears may disappear and offer room to love. Here is salvation in the simple words in which we practice with today’s idea. Here is the answer to temptation which can never fail to welcome in the Christ where fear and anger had prevailed before. Here is Atonement made complete, the world passed safely by and Heaven now restored. Here is the answer of the Voice for God. Complete abstraction is the natural condition of the mind. But part of it is now unnatural. It does not look on everything as one. It sees instead but fragments of the whole, for only thus could it invent the partial world you see. The purpose of all seeing is to show you what you wish to see. All hearing but brings to your mind the sounds it wants to hear.
Thus were specifics made. And now it is specifics we must use in practicing. We give them to the Holy Spirit, that He may employ them for a purpose which is different from the one we gave to them. Yet He can use but what we made, to teach us from a different point of view, so we can see a different use in everything.
One brother is all brothers. Every mind contains all minds, for every mind is one. Such is the truth. Yet do these thoughts make clear the meaning of creation? Do these words bring perfect clarity with them to you? What can they seem to be but empty sounds; pretty, perhaps, correct in sentiment, yet fundamentally not understood nor understandable. The mind that taught itself to think specifically can no longer grasp abstraction in the sense that it is all-encompassing. We need to see a little, that we learn a lot.
It seems to be the body that we feel limits our freedom, makes us suffer, and at last puts out our life. Yet bodies are but symbols for a concrete form of fear. Fear without symbols calls for no response, for symbols can stand for the meaningless. Love needs no symbols, being true. But fear attaches to specifics, being false.
Bodies attack, but minds do not. This thought is surely reminiscent of our text, where it is often emphasized. This is the reason bodies easily become fear’s symbols. You have many times been urged to look beyond the body, for its sight presents the symbol of love’s “enemy” Christ’s vision does not see. The body is the target for attack, for no one thinks he hates a mind. Yet what but mind directs the body to attack? What else could be the seat of fear except what thinks of fear?
Hate is specific. There must be a thing to be attacked. An enemy must be perceived in such a form he can be touched and seen and heard, and ultimately killed. When hatred rests upon a thing, it calls for death as surely as God’s Voice proclaims there is no death. Fear is insatiable, consuming everything its eyes behold, seeing itself in everything, compelled to turn upon itself and to destroy.
Who sees a brother as a body sees him as fear’s symbol. And he will attack, because what he beholds is his own fear external to himself, poised to attack, and howling to unite with him again. Mistake not the intensity of rage projected fear must spawn. It shrieks in wrath, and claws the air in frantic hope it can reach to its maker and devour him.
This do the body’s eyes behold in one whom Heaven cherishes, the angels love and God created perfect. This is his reality. And in Christ’s vision is his loveliness reflected in a form so holy and so beautiful that you could scarce refrain from kneeling at his feet. Yet you will take his hand instead, for you are like him in the sight that sees him thus. Attack on him is enemy to you, for you will not perceive that in his hands is your salvation. Ask him but for this, and he will give it to you. Ask him not to symbolize your fear. Would you request that love destroy itself? Or would you have it be revealed to you and set you free?
Today we practice in a form we have attempted earlier. Your readiness is closer now, and you will come today nearer Christ’s vision. If you are intent on reaching it, you will succeed today. And once you have succeeded, you will not be willing to accept the witnesses your body’s eyes call forth. What you will see will sing to you of ancient melodies you will remember. You are not forgot in Heaven. Would you not remember it?
Select one brother, symbol of the rest, and ask salvation of him. See him first as clearly as you can, in that same form to which you are accustomed. See his face, his hands and feet, his clothing. Watch him smile, and see familiar gestures which he makes so frequently. Then think of this: What you are seeing now conceals from you the sight of one who can forgive you all your sins; whose sacred hands can take away the nails which pierce your own, and lift the crown of thorns which you have placed upon your bleeding head. Ask this of him, that he may set you free:
Give me your blessing, holy Son of God. I would behold you with the eyes of Christ, and see my perfect sinlessness in you.
And He will answer Whom you called upon. For He will hear the Voice for God in you, and answer in your own. Behold him now, whom you have seen as merely flesh and bone, and recognize that Christ has come to you. Today’s idea is your safe escape from anger and from fear. Be sure you use it instantly, should you be tempted to attack a brother and perceive in him the symbol of your fear. And you will see him suddenly transformed from enemy to savior; from the devil into Christ.

2024.06.09 12:18 celestial_god First time watching, currently on S6E2 (No spoils please)

I had taken a break from the series cause i watched like 5 seasons in a month and now im back to end the show. First of all the show is amazing and i'm sure it's gonna be a long time till i find anything as good.
My favorite show is The Sopranos which i don't see changing in my lifetime lol, i don't say that to belittle the shield or anything which is amazing, more like a point of reference.
However i do see many similar things in Vic and Tony as characters and how they evolve throughout the seasons. Especially how far they both go to protect their family/friends doing more questionable things as the show goes on.
They also are both THE guy that people go to when a crucial decision needs to be made, and how they deal with the stress/consequences that comes with that. The job and home life is a balancing act that spills through and affects them in their decision making. And many more parallels but i don't wanna write a book here.
I just wanna write some predictions and see what came true by the end of the show. Firstly i don't see Vic having a good ending, there's just so much shit he's done throughout that something is bound to come bite him in the end. I think there's no chance he goes to jail, i only see him dying but in a spectacular way, maybe while helping someone, Shawn? Or his family, if Vic found a way to get out unscathed and get a semi-good ending that would surprise me a lot.
I could see Shawn being the only one to get away from it all and having to reflect on all that shit he done especially after killing Lem 2 eps go. Which really has him fucked up these 2 eps i saw from S6, where we see all the guilt build up and even contemplating suicide. And he knows it would be impossible to tell Vic without destroying their friendship forever. Which i could see at some point happening, i feel Shawn will have to tell something at some point, somehow confessing his sin, and that will create a great gap between them. On the other hand i could see Shawn doing something reckless for Vic in order to atone for Lem.
Ronnie i don't know, i could see him taking a bullet at S7 at some point, so i really dont know as he had less screen time than the rest crew. Either way i don't see any from the crew surviving in good terms by the end of the series. Even Aceveda if he manages to be Mayor, it feels like he will have even more shit on his plate at that level.
Shawn is in a very tough place right now where he sees Vic doing all this mad shit to catch Lems killer and being unable to say anything, especially when the investigation on Vic just got dropped and Kavanaugh got caught, which would be the best moment for Vic to step back and take a breather. They really all need an episode where they all chilling drinking coffee lmao. Also great performance by Whittaker, very entertaining character like him or not, and had you on edge all S5.
Anyways, let's see what happens cause i read the final seasons are top class and i can't wait.

2024.06.09 12:09 Confident_Hearing_11 Is it sinful to have children without a wife

I am pretty sure all of you guys are pretty confused so let me explain a bit
Around a couple months ago i made a vow to god that i will never get married and have a wife
I was pretty fine with that because i never wanted to get married to begin with
But one day after the attack on bishop mar mari emmanuel i watched a video made by the PBD podcast which was about the attack on bishop mar mari emmanuel
Now what does that have any thing to do with all this well in the video they said that the reason muslims are growing in population is because they have lots of children and one day muslims are gonna out grow christians
And they said that christains need to have more children so i was like wait they are right we need to have more children
Later on i got a cirtain desire to have lots of children
I now plan to seven children then i remembered my vow to not have a wife
So i decided to look up on google I want to have children but no wife
To which google said that women can donate their eggs and i can put my sperms in them and they would grow to a normal human so i could have children without getting married and having sex
Now here is my question to you all Is it sinful to that Is it sinful for me to have children via me getting eggs that women have donated insted of actually getting married and having sex

2024.06.09 11:39 sonbal Thoughts on SS-JS

I’m new to this show having watched it over the past week. So excuse me if I’m recycling old discourse.
I started watching the show after seeing a short clip of SS-JS from ep 14. Subsequently a lot of the comments I read here and on Twitter said that for JS SS was just back up choice to save face. So that got me interested in watching the whole show to see if that is the case. I watched it and have to disagree I just didn’t see it that way. The majority of his messages throughout the show went to SS, he has texted someone else only twice, same for SS. Their relationship is far more complicated than viewers are giving it a credit for.
As much as I love nitpicking about straight relationships and their inherently unequal dynamics, what struck me the most was how SS was love bombing the whole time from the very beginning. I noticed this bc I’m just like her. I have also behaved like this in relationships - intense feelings about “thee one” from the get go, clinginess, if they don’t follow the script in my head sudden withdrawals etc. I don’t think she does this for abusive reasons like love bombers usually do, I just think ppl’s insecurities get the best of them in an environment where they’re being filmed 24/7.
I really like SS and I think ppl being flawed does not make them toxic. But I also think that both her and JS have different communication styles which was most clearly evident in the truth or dare game. SS asked if he regretted anything on the show thinking he was going to say he regretted their conversation during the secret date but he thought she meant he regretted meeting her in general and wanted to ensure her that wasn’t the case.
I think also the fling comment from JS is widely misinterpreted as in Korea some means two ppl who are about to officially date, it’s a serious affair. I remember this from TL3 when HW said she had a “some” with someone after breaking up with HH and he said he didn’t realize she had already moved on from him. I think mistranslation and a lot of us not speaking Korean is clouding our judgements.
Overall I wouldn’t be surprised if they resolved their issues in the finale since it seems from their ep15 interviews they are both making jokes about the whole situation. I don’t know if they will last outside the show, and do agree with JS that real life is very different and there are going to be many obstacles. This showed me that he had thought about the future just not in the same way SS did. I think he does like her and it’s not a sin to slowly develop feelings for someone, it has after all been less than a month. But I also think he’s insecure about himself and can’t believe that he’s someone’s first choice on the show. That’s why in SG he was upset about SS choosing YW for the Cupid date.
Their insecurities are exacerbated by the unnatural environment they’re in, so I’m trying to be understanding of both. I genuinely wish the best for SS bc I see a lot of myself in her.

2024.06.09 11:07 Green_sale332 struggling with mastrubation as a woman

no one talks about how hard it is for women too. i cant stop. i tried everything fasting, lowering my gaze and also i dont watch porn. but it just happens and it gets harder to control. ik its a sin I'm not going to fall in zina because I'm not interested. my parents wont get me married since I'm still young. getting married would've helped so much.please, even suggestions from men how they stopped it will help. I'm sick of it.
