Reflux and an Overdose?

2024.05.16 06:16 uratallglassofwater Reflux and an Overdose?

Hey everyone,
I have a few things to ask.
I've been on HRT for a month now. And I made a mistake this week. I completely forgot when I took my last dose. So I took one Monday. I'm currently on 0.3 EV inj once a week and 50mg of bicalutamide once a day. Vial says 100mg/5ml (20mg/ml). Before I started E level was 40, T level 341 before I get into that more I wanted to ask does 0.3 sound like a good dose to start with?
Now, about me forgetting my dose. I did write it down and found it tonight. I took my previous on Saturday. And due to me forgetting I took another dose on Monday. I don't really feel too out if it BUT I am having some of the worst reflux I've ever had in my entire life! I've dealt with reflux since I was a teen but nothing like this. I can't eat or drink anything and will sleep sitting up tonight. My throat is sore (I'm constantly clearing my throat) and the burning mouth syndrome is out of this world. I took some nexium and it has done nothing at all.
Could this be because of the double dose of E I took? Should I wait a while before taking my next dose? Like a week from the mix up day? I am feeling heavily fatigued. I'm sorry if I'm rambling a bit but I'm just concerned. I reached out to my doctor but she is currently out of the office for a week.
All advice welcome. I posted this in another but didn't get any responses. Thought I'd post it here.

2024.05.12 02:12 Historical_Diet9846 Not all doctors are equal

I was seeing a GI who basically only put me on OTC Nexium once per day with a horrible flare up. Even after my endoscopy showing my flare up was active he didn’t do anything different. As a result, I just got a second opinion and the new doctor immediately put me on 40 mg of Omeprazole twice a day and is doing a follow up endoscopy in 8 weeks to see if it drops my count. I am already feeling relief from just this adjustment in a few days. Just wanted to share in case anyone else might be in same situation.

I already take 40 mg of nexium before Zepbound and seemed to be doing ok following a healthier diet but the last couple days my heartburn got worse and I’m suppose to take my shot tonight, I’m afraid it will get worse. This next dose will be my third dose of 5. I was on 2.5 previously for one month and was ok with it. Any ideas or helpful hints. Thanks in advance

I have multiple ulcers from 6 months and they don’t seem to heal. I am using Sucrafate and nexium 40. I am afraid it could become cancer. Can the doctor heal it by applying any medicine in endoscopy. Please suggest

2024.05.04 02:37 iamelloyello Jittery on nexium?

Was prescribed 40 mg of nexium. I just started it today, and I feel...weird. jittery. My anxiety is already very, very not great. Which is something I'm working on, but this jittery feeling is adding to that.
Has anyone experienced something similar?

I was diagnosed with a chronic GERD when I was 15 and I’m having the most difficult time with the injections, my stomach is so sour and nothing I do helps. I already take Nexium 40mg and Pepcid 40 mg while practicing a GERD friendly diet and I’m just feeling awful. Does it end? I’m on my 5th month of injections.

2024.04.27 15:57 LiftedandHandsome Something isn’t right but I don’t know what and I’m afraid to go to a doctor.

Long story short, I don’t expect anyone to be able to diagnose anything over Reddit. I’m just seeking some guidance as to whether my issues warrant going to the emergency room or something or if it’s all in my head.
I grew up with the mentality that you only go to the doctor when you know something is wrong. That going when it could be nothing is wasting their time and is rude. BTW I know that’s a messed up POV, I’m working through it with my therapist but wanted to explain my hesitation.
Some details about me: - 37M - 6’0” and about 225. Slightly overweight but not obese - I have mental health issues - ADHD, Depression (possibly bipolar 2 - mew doc is unsure of previous diagnosis so trying to reaffirm) - daily i take 70mg Vyvanse (ADHD), 80mg Prozac, 300mg Wellbutrin, 40mg Nexium (GERD), 6.25mg Ambien for insomnia, 2.25 ml of testosterone (weekly injection - since I cannot produce T naturally any longer) and recently like yesterday started taking a vitamin D supplement and Magnesium supplement. My situation predates either of these new adds. - 2 weeks ago a dedicated to get myself back in the gym. I’ve been lifting 3-4x per week for about 30-40 mins each time.
What’s going on? It’s really hard to describe so bear with me.
Additional details: - Monday I went to an urgent care thinking my ear pain was an ear infection. Doctor said I had no signs of any infection and I was probably the constant weather changes we’ve been experiencing - at said appointment my blood pressure was normal and no fever - Since I have been taking my BP at home. Not sure how accurate it is but it says my BP is normal too - Because I’m on supplemental testosterone my hormone levels are checked regularly. So far again, everything comes back normal.
I’m genuinely terrified that it could be some serious like a brain tumor or brain bleed or something. Like I can’t tie any of my mental health issues back to any trigger. It’s just like one day I woke up and was a totally different person.
Over the years my doctor and I have tried several different mental health meds but nothing really works. I see her this week and plan to ask to try a different antidepressant.
Family history (if it matters): - Mom: survived breast cancer and thyroid cancer - Father: passed from COVID. No major medical issues other than hypertension and sarcoidosis - Paternal Grandmother: passed from breast cancer in the 90’s - Maternal Grandfather: passed of liver cancer in early 2000’s
Sorry for all the rambling. I was trying to be a thorough as possible and anticipate any questions up front.
Is this likely just mental health issues causing physical symptoms?
Could it be something worse?
Is it worth going to the ER? This has gotten worse and worse of the last couple of weeks and I don’t know if/when I could even get in to see my GP.

8 weeks ago I was diagnosed with chronic gastritis through an endoscopy. Here's how I healed myself. 40 mg nexium 2x a day. Followed the healing diet. Took probiotics and prebiotics. Drank cabbage/celery/carrot/aloe juice 2x a day for 2 weeks, then 1x in the morning. No more symptoms!!!!
Edit: I also reduced my stress through meditation, baths, and exercise. And took, still take magnesium and vit b12 supplements

2024.04.05 12:58 Busy-Teaching8398 Advice on Consolidating Medication Times for Better Daily Management

Age 40
Sex Male
Height 5 foot 7
Weight 94 kg
Race White
Current medications
Hi everyone,
I'm currently managing a daily medication regimen and am seeking advice on possibly consolidating the times I take my meds to simplify my routine and improve adherence. My current schedule looks like this:
Bisoprolol 5mg: First thing in the morning
Vitamin D3 1600 IU: At 12pm
OTC - Zyrtec (Cetirizine) 10mg: At 2pm
Nexium (Esomeprazole) 40mg: At 6:30pm
Atorvastatin: Before bed, which can vary between 10pm to 11:30pm
My goal is to take as many of these medications as possible in the morning, except for Atorvastatin, which I see on the label should be taken at night.
Is it safe and effective to take Bisoprolol, Vitamin D3, Zyrtec, and Nexium together in the morning?
Would changing the timing of these medications have any significant impact on their efficacy?
I plan to discuss this with my doctor, but I wanted to gather some insights or personal experiences beforehand. Any advice, resources, or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you in advance for your help!

2024.04.04 04:56 Onion_573 PPI side effects?

I have been on Omeprazole and Nexium for a combined total of 5 months now. With 3 months on Omeprazole and 2 months on Nexium. At this point, I feel like I have hit a plateau in terms of my progress, and i’m wondering if the PPI are causing additional issues for me.
I feel like my digestion has become slower, and in the past two months I have also had other bizarre symptoms pop up such as light sensitivity, and a stiff neck. My brain fog has been slowly improving over the past few months, but has also hit a bit of a plateau, which makes me think that the PPI is contributing to part of it. I’ve tapered down from 40 mg of Nexium to only 20 mg over the past few weeks, and plan on going down to zero over the next month or so. Has anyone found relief upon going off their PPI?

2024.04.02 00:58 CheesecakeWise9443 Verge of tears

I posted at 3am the other day, with no responses...reposting now because today/tonight I'm on the verge of tears. I just feel so uncomfortable with my throat burning and so tight, excess saliva and maybe even mucus? Almost like I can't properly swallow (more on all my symptoms below).
Prior post Wondering if anyone has a similar experience?
Back story: 38f, chronic reflux for years, with no official diagnosis, until a few years ago. I've had 2 endoscopies, March '21 and May '21 - LA Grade C reflux esophagitis in March and Grade A & 1cm hiatal hernia in May, after adding pepcid to standing nexium treatment. But I've actually been on OTC meds for pretty much 10+ years - per dr - previously prilosec only, then nexium only, then add pepcid. My weight has fluctuated, and I'm definitely overweight, but nothing extreme. I don't drink pop, but do sometimes drink sparkling waters, and I have coffee every morning, very occasionally drink tea, but primarily I drink a ton of water. I have practically quit drinking, about 8-9 months ago...switched to NA options. When I did drink (especially overdid it), reflux so bad it'd wake me up in the middle of the night and I'd immediately run to bathroom to vomit. I try not to eat for a few hours before bed/laying down. I don't do spicy at all. I've never been able to make myself burp, but sometimes it happens naturally...usually, though, my throat just makes these gurgling noises.
My stress has definitely been worse the last year or so, with my daughter's mental & physical health issues and my grandmother's unexpected passing (contributing to daughter's condition). I've gained back 25lbs of the 40 I had lost...partially, I think, bc I quit vaping (had only been doing it about 2 years) and also stress. I have been on anxiety meds for 10 years, though they've changed slightly and now I take Strattera, a non-stim adhd med, with buspar.
Over the last few months, my reflux has been BAD. Almost around the clock, regardless of what/when I eat/drink. None of the OTC meds help, so they took me off nexium and put me on generic Protonix. I don't notice a difference. It's just getting worse. I'm going through Tums like candy. My throat constantly feels tight, my mouth, too, I guess...idk how to describe it. I think excess saliva, watery and a little sour or something? Almost burns. I can swallow, but it often feels slightly uncomfortable. Reflux so bad I cough. Bending over makes it worse. Recently, getting sharp, random bouts of nausea, but no vomiting...very occasional regurgitation.
It's all becoming unbearable...and my doctor finally said enough is enough...so I have a consult with GI on Wednesday and another endoscopy on May 1st. With the way the healthcare system is, and the wait times, etc...I wanted to go ahead and get into GI before my scope. Maybe they can adjust the endo appointment for additional procedures to help see what's going on? My doctor did say something about potential surgery, I'm assuming a fundiplication and/or hiatal hernia repair...she said it might have gotten worse. I'm trying to change jobs (non-manual labor) and I'm a little nervous about what all of this means, should I get a new position. Surgery complications? Recovery? Diet? All of that 😬

2024.04.01 17:14 kitty_strawberry Unmentioned Pantoprazole side effects for cis women.

Hi everybody!! I just wanted to share some side effects i’ve had from taking Pantoprazole that were not mentioned by doctors but also were not available online until I visited a gastroenterologist, just in case you go through the same things as I have and are worried!
  1. Delayed/missed period: My period for this cycle was 19 days late after stopping panto, ofc like anyone I was worried about pregnancy but the test came back negative. after visiting a gastro I was told this happens to about 5% of cis women my age (20) however no mention of this is available online
  2. Insane acid reflux upon quilting panto: I quit panto on the 20th of March, on the 21st I arrived at university and no later than 3 minutes later started uncontrollably vomiting (this has happened before with gerd, but never to the extent of after this medication) I was driving and it takes around 40 minutes to get home from my uni but almost every 20 second had to pull over to continue spewing my guts. I assume this was my body releasing the medication but i’ve gotten no answers on that.
  3. incredibly bad hives: even after quitting the medication over 11 days ago, I have had uncontrollable itching and hives. I realize this was an allergic reaction to the medication but I was told it only happens to around .5% of people taking pantoprazole. nonetheless I have never been in so much pain in my life, the main itch spots were my back, around my chest area, my stomach, from the base of my neck to my scalp, and my limbs.
If you experience any of the things I have mentioned above please let me know i’m not alone !! Ever since then I have been taking a combination of Nexium and Omeprazole and my reflux has gotten significantly better. I realize these symptoms are not going to be the same for everybody and I was just one of the unfortunate people to experience these. One positive thing i can say about Panto is that for the time I was taking it, it really did help my gerd (aside from the obvious bad parts lol) Hope this can help people 😋💞

2024.04.01 12:59 BackgroundLiving9356 Surgery Approved!

Hey all,
This community has been a big help as I navigate my GERD. I have been pushing for surgery for several years. Unfortunately, I move states every couple of years for work. Every move, I would have to start the process all over again. 2.5 years ago, I started pushing hard, and last week I got my surgery approval and surgery date.
Here is a brief breakdown in case someone is considering surgery.
If you are considering surgery, my advice is to keep on pushing. Tell each doctor exactly what you want; directly ask for surgery. It can be frustrating. I had to take off several days of work to see doctors and perform these tests, but a reasonable employer will understand. All the tests were spread out over 4 months, so it did not significantly impact my job.

28M Symptoms: Several months of chronic daily digestive symptoms including stomach and abdominal pain that worsens following meals both immediately after and few hours after. Location and severity varies but primarily in the lower abdomen and lower right quadrant as well as the upper right quadrant similar to chest pains from indigestion and acid reflux. Constant painful gas and belching as well as bloating and extremely reduced appetite. Lost 40 pounds in one year. Really my entire torso and intestine feel inflamed quite often. No diarrhea, very rare constipation.
Tests: stool test - found high intestinal permeability/leaky gut. SIBO breath test. - Moderate to low hydrogen 36 PPM, 12 Methane. Colonoscopy and Endescopy clear MRI and blood work clear
Attempted treatment Rifaxan 2 courses 600 mg 3 times a day 14 days. - Mild to no relief Anti microbials - Candida and AR 2 each with meals 3 months- provided moderate relief to bloating and pain. Nexium every day for a month - worsened symptoms Gastromend, binders, zinc carsonine, DGL, wormwood black walnut. - no meaningful impact.
Food intolerances - only thing im 100% sure causes severe symptoms are potatoes and processed sugars. Attempted gluten free/dairy free without much relief at all.
Where I’m at now - it seems like my stomach lining needs to be repaired though unsure. Could also be my MMC? Considering L glutamine/bone broth. Otherwise just looking for any general advice on how to feel better. Thanks.

2024.03.17 00:11 Valuable-Winner9727 Egd results

I just had my Egd because I’ve had gastritis for over a year and off an on before then for years.. I’m having a hard time understanding my results. I’ll post the 2 pictures, also on the picture showing my stomach.. does the # 1 and # 2 mean that’s where my gastritis is located? I was a heavy drinker 3 years ago and cannot for the life of me get rid of this gastritis, I’ve lost over 30 pounds this year and now I’m 116lbs and struggling not to loose anymore. I just starting eating the diet and I have most likely postponed my healing because of that..I’m only on 20mg of nexium and I’m not sure if I should take the recommended 40mg. thank you for any input!

2024.03.12 21:39 icb4kprogress Nexium Side Effects - Feeling overly full, harder to breathe?

Hi - I’m dealing with my first flare up of reflux (likely LPr) and have been on Nexium .40 mg for 3 weeks. I’ve found that my digestion is a lot slow (probably normal). But sometimes after I eat in the afternoon, I feel overly full. Like that feeling you can’t suck in your gut.
I also noticed it’s impacted exercise. I just went for a run and I wasn’t able to run nearly as fast or long without stopping. My heart rate was low as if I was working out gently, but I was so winded.
Any chance this is all related? My stomach feeling massive full of food and water, pressing up onto my lungs?
No idea if that’s the case but it’s the only thing I could think of.

2024.03.08 23:00 sweetgeometry Tapering down from 40 pantoprazole (3wks) to otc nexium 20mg (2 wks). Cool to stop cold turkey?

Many i see here agree rebound really only occurs at higher doses for 8+ weeks of continual use. This will total 5 and plan to drop cold turkey per my Gastro recommendation. I think I’ve just read too many horror rebound complaints here but anyone who can share having done something similar to me and was fine please do share. Thanks! I think I will grab Pepcid just as a failsafe should it occur.
