Whether we’re an active participant or just an observer, I believe that, at some point in our lives, we experience something that is just seared into our heads, and buried into a part of our brain so hard that we recall every detail of it.
After all these years, I still remember the green jacket you wore, the red beanie, the brown boots, gray pants, and the rainbow bracelet you wore on your right hand. I can still hear the sound of your voice, laughing and giggling as you were trying to tell some embarrassing story about your grandma. You had a way of describing things that would make me want to hang on to every little detail, like if I missed something for a second, I’d be missing a crucial part of the story. I still recall the street we were walking on, our footprints left on the snowy sidewalk as we went in the direction of our neighborhood. You were living with your grandparents, and I lived with just my mom and dad.
Normally, when we reached past the knotted tree, you’d hug me and wish me farewell. But…you didn’t do that. You just stopped suddenly, at the foot of the paveway of your house. And then your smile slowly faded into a sullen look.
“Something wrong?” I asked concerningly.
“...”
When I was about to tap your shoulder, I heard the door open. I still remember your grandfather’s face as he stood there, inside his warmly lit home. I knew him, too, during our much younger days when we would have sleepovers. He’d usually be the biggest presence, and had a way of telling a mundane story as if it was the most whimsical adventure in a string of many he had in his youth. However, now there was only a powerful, dampening sense of loss radiating from him.
“Uh, everything alright, sir!?” I called out to him.
He looked at me for a second, and then he looked at you. “Kiddo, you might want to come in. I…Margaret, she…wants to see you.”
You stood there, still looking at the house, unmoving. Grandpa had to come out and grab your shoulder before taking you in. He must’ve been freezing, given he was only wearing a nightgown covered in a thick coat.
“You should go home, son,” he said, not facing me, “it’s getting colder.”
I stood there for a moment. Step by step, you and him took what felt like forever to get to the front door. As you both made it beyond the threshold, you turned over your shoulder, and all I could see were your eyes. They were bigger than I’d ever seen them, and they were looking right at me. You were looking right at me, and you looked so helpless and afraid of something.
But, instead of doing what I should’ve done, I turned and walked back to my house. It was the next morning that I found out what had happened. After that, you moved and I hadn’t seen you since. That was years ago today, but the memory still plays on repeat during snowy days like these. I also moved after college, to the big city, but sometimes I go back to visit the folks and, when I walk around, I stop at the exact same spot I was standing in. And, I wonder: if I had thrown whatever was holding me back into the cold wind and ran to hold your hand, would that have made you stay? Maybe just being by your side would’ve been enough, I don’t know. I’ll never know now. All I can do is just remember it, and live with the memories of what you and I did and didn’t do.
I wonder if you also remember everything about that day. And, if there’s any chance we’ll meet again, I hope you’ve forgiven me.

2024.05.29 06:30 a_winters_day I’m about to turn 18, and my single-ish mom is 29 weeks pregnant. How do I help her as much as possible?

I’m not quite sure how to start this, but the main goal of this post is to hopefully gain some advice on how to be as much as a help to my mother (39F) as possible, through her third trimester and past postpartum.
For some context, this baby will be my mother’s fourth child, however, he’s her first child with her current boyfriend (35?M). The rest of us have the same father who she was married to for around 18 years, until a few years ago. She has been with her current partner for two years. (Their anniversary was recently)
My father was quite abusive and my mom was left to do most things regarding us children alone, as a very young woman.
I do not want this pregnancy to be anything like that. However, I’m not sure that her current partner is completely ready for this father role. Which is fair, considering this is his first child and this was an accidental pregnancy.
He has yet to move in with us, which I am sure my mother is concerned about, because he has had since December to do so and it is now late May. He is a slow person in general and takes his time, but my mother has expressed to him many times that she would like for him to be moved in as soon as possible. He lives with his mom and brother as a caregiver figure of sorts for his mother (To give him so grace… but it’s barely that). However, we live extremely close and it would be very easy for him to get to her.
This next piece of context is extremely important!! I have a brother (13) who is special needs. He has a chromosome disorder so rare he’s the only person on earth with it. It’s quite hard to explain, but he needs 24/7 supervision. And he’s not easy to manage. Thankfully, he has a caregiver that helps some days of the week. But on the days he doesn’t, he is a lot for my mother to handle. I help the best I can, but I often feel like I can’t do enough to be a good help after her baby is born.
I am constantly researching things about pregnancy, birth, postpartum, babies, and more. I think instagram thinks i’m expecting at this point. But I’m not, and I’ve never been. I don’t know how to help in ways that are worthwhile. What can I do to truly make my mom as happy as possible? And to make this her best pregnancy experience yet?
I clean and make her breakfast (sometimes on breakfast… i tried to make her a snack yesterday and ended up just wasting food, and it’s things like that that make me wonder if I’m making things worse by trying to help. Maybe i’d just be getting in the way) but for some reason i feel like nothing is enough.
I know there’s only so much I can do. But sometimes i wish I could take the baby and raise him as my own away from her, so she could finally spend part of her just for herself, not taking care of others.
Also, I don’t have my drivers license, and don’t plan on getting it because the drivers where I live are very bad. We got in a car accident last month, and I’ve felt shaken up in the car ever since. I bring that up because it means i can’t go get stuff for her postpartum, unless I use my electric bike. I would like to be able to help in that way, though.
I just graduated high school, so I’ve been getting lots of money. I’ve been trying to either save it or spend it on the baby and my mom. I also have an internship for June that will make me over 1 or 2,000 dollars I can’t remember. I wanted to give it all to her. Maybe pay part of the hospital bill? I know those are really bad.
She’s also been stressed about money, I think. For some reason, her managers won’t give her shifts. Her partner works at the same place, but since he lives with his mom, he isn’t working and is focusing on pharmacy school stuff. Maybe i’m projecting my own feelings, (Because from time to time i resent them for getting pregnant) but i can imagine she’s upset he isn’t thinking ahead to all the things this baby will need.. all the expenses… etc.
Anyway, that was a lot of rambling, sorry. If anyone has advice for me on how to helpful without getting in the way, please let me know. I need it very much, and it’s eternally appreciated. Even if you just list off things people would’ve helped you with when you were pregnant and postpartum.
She doesn’t like me helping because i’m a (her) kid, but it feels like my duty as the eldest. I might update this if i remember more things but for now :) thank you

I (F38) am finally moving towards divorcing my WH (M38). We have 2 children (14, 15) and have been together for about 17 years. I found out early on in the relationship that he was a world class liar and manipulator. However, I felt trapped and decided to stay to try to work things out. What a mistake. This man has cheated on me with numerous co-workers, gave me an STD when I was pregnant with our oldest, gaslit me like there was no tomorrow, and was abusive to myself and children. Whenever he was caught the would deny, deny, deny until he was cornered. He would then lash out and trickle truth me. Whenever I worked up the nerve to kick him out he played the victim and monkey branched to one of his skanky co-workers. Everything was always my fault. Nothing was his. If I didn’t just get over and move on from over a decade of abuse and manipulation he would get mean and irritated with me. I was a stay at home mom who was also going to college in hopes of getting a degree and career. That meant that for almost all of our relationship I was financially dependent on him. He completely destroyed my sense of self worth and made me feel completely crazy with his constant mind games and manipulation. I tried so many times to end things but I’m ashamed to admit that I took him back. The amount of shit he has pulled is devastating, disgusting, and shocking. He’s an accomplished cheater and master manipulator. I don’t know anyone who plays the victim better than him. Not this time, though! I recently graduated to a graduate program and gave a decent job. I kicked him out in Feb. My kiddos and I are close and have been piecing our lives back together. Thanks the gods for therapy! He hasn’t checked in once to see how the kiddos are doing. When he left he took our only vehicle knowing our youngest has weekly medical appointments. Instead of staying with friends/family he decided to live in the car for two months before moving in with his mom. Now he’s going around sobbing about I made him homeless for 2 months when he chose to do that himself. I was eventually able to get a little car to get around in. I tried talking with him last night to give him a health update about our kids and it just turned into him yelling at me about everything I’d done to him with o accountability on his part. It ended with him running his “friendship” with one of his past APs in my face and telling me to go fuck myself. I’ve tried contacting the APs in the past but most don’t believe me. I need to start the divorce proceedings ASAP. However, I’ve recently graduated and have the student loans to match. I have a consultation with a lawyer tomorrow afternoon. I was shocked at how expensive it’s going to be. I’m at a loss. I’m exhausted, heart broken, confused, broke, and angry as hell.

i want to start this off that i’m female in high school and i did so many dumb choices during this school year. i have strict parents and during march of this year, i became super rebellious. Anyways ill get to the point: I sent nudes to this guy that love bombed me and i fell for it like an idiot. thing is, this happened during march prior to my stage of rebellion. i need to know an honest answer of the chances of me being leaked. no sugar coating or anything but i want your guys opinion. so for some context, the guy sent me pics of himself with half of his face in it, so anybody in the school would be able to tell that it’s him. due to him sending me these, i thought to myself that he was trustworthy and i sent him my chest and lower part, but without my face in it. a month later, this random guy (who wasn’t the dude i sent nudes to) told my friend that he saw them, and i freaked out. i demanded that my friend ask the random guy to send him the nudes of me that he claims he saw, but he ended up not sending it and said that the guy that love bombed me (the one i sent it to), showed him it but never sent it to him. Therefore, the random guy never sent it to my friend. He did tell my friend though that if he ever gets the picture that he claims he saw he will send it to my friend. I was furious, and confronted the dude that love bombed me. he told me that he never sent anybody my nudes or showed anyone but i knew for a fact it had to be him—i never sent nudes to anybody else but him. i told him that and he gaslighted me and kept denying ever showing anyone. i forgot to mention this IMPORTANT detail but; when i sent the nudes i sent it on snapchat. he screenshotted it once when we were on ft but then he screenshotted and showed me that he deleted the “accidental” screenshot , showing him deleting it on his gallery and on the recently deleted. but i’m still not sure if maybe there was a chance..

I picked up a relatively cheap spool off Amazon (BEST-Q) and really want this stuff to work. However, I’m getting some very janky results. I’ve tried messing with retraction, temperature, pathing, layer size, speed, and flow rate, and I’m getting weird walls that are fibrous and stringy almost like the outer perimeters aren’t adhering, with some weird scarring throughout some parts. It’s not the worse thing; with some filing and judicious use of a heat gun most parts can be fixed up, but I’d like to see what you all have to say. Settings commented below. |

(if anyone can tell me what that instrument is pls lmk 🫶🏾)
i just love the production of the song so much, the background vocals and harmonies flow perfectly! that first prechorus with zhang hao, ricky, and gunwook literally had me ascending the first time i heard it lmao. same with the dance break part, i genuinely can’t get enough of it!!
and speaking of, the choreography is amazing too!! i love the musicality and how groovy yet delicate it looks, it’s so satisfying to watch :)

Does anyone else exist within a friend group or social group who just could care less about crypto or nft or blockchain tech? I’m in this weird purgatory currently where I Uber, go home and organize/list my trading cards for sale, and then the rest of the time I’m deeply engaged between converting my hippie pop culture website into a web3 integrated virtual festival, and scouring nft drops / creating my own NFTs. I am a professional musician and psychedelic inspired graphic designer, so I am getting a big jump on getting my music into this new landscape, and combining my visual and audible art into a bundle of future rewards.
And I find it really difficult to share my successes on the Blockchain as well as the developments of my own website, because no less than two minutes into the conversation they are uninterested or completely lost. And I have taken my approach to answering any crypto related questions in a no condescending, easier digestible thesis.
I have updated the website as the tech has upgraded for the last decade. I’m 30 years old. I have ton of achievable and original art and ease of service business plans to incorporate overtime. I have been telling people that I feel as if Blockchain technology is entering the AOL dial at this rate Google hasn’t even been invented yet and I’m pretty sur I have been telling people that I feel as if Blockchain technology is entering the AOL dial at this rate. Google hasn’t even been invented yet and I’m pretty sure daddy Bezos still has hair. Every day I get Uber customers in my car who asked me can I take the time to explain to them what , but honestly, it just seems like it this point those of us who want to be pioneers in this part of history may not live to see the “big conversion”. I have taken roughly 1500 rides over the past 5 months, since I restarted my crypto journey. Statistically, that is 1500+ people in my vehicle. Not one has claimed to own a wallet or ever had a wallet. Only 2 had heard of NFT’s.

- Spacious car for a family of five
- Hassle free ownership
- Mostly city commutes to office / other places in the weekends. Occasional long highway trips (once in 3 months or so)
- Decently equipped to not feel outdated in 4 to 5 years.
- I am a sedate driver and have been driving for close to around 7 years now (First car being Alto)
- Budget is around 11 lacs. Can extend to 11.5 if the car warrants it.
i20 Asta 1.2 NA Manual:
- Excellent interiors all around. Definitely felt a segment above.
- Cabin insulation was extremely good. Engine sound / road noise is almost non-existent.
- Excellent space. More than even Baleno which in itself is spacious.
- The dealers that I have been in touch with quoted a price similar to or slightly higher than Baleno Alpha variant.
- Not as peppy as Baleno. But not a problem for me considering my driving characteristics.
- Good interiors.
- Just as great cabin insulation but some of the road noise did seep in.
- Excellent space again. Was able to fit 5 comfortably.
- I liked this engine better than i20's.
- Comparable features to i20 if not better.
- Both of these cars are not safe. But I am happy to trade that for hassle free ownership and given that my primary use is in city and even on highways I don't go beyond 85. But people who have driven both, which one felt safer of the two / more stable?
- How comparable is the yearly service cost and the long term maintenance cost of these two? I heard Baleno might be slightly cheaper but not sure by how much.
- How lower is the mileage of i20 compared to Baleno? (But not a deciding factor from my pov)
- How is the long term reliability apart from the engine like electronic issues, development of rattling issues over time?
- Brezza Vxi - I test drove the Zxi+ variant but everything apart from the 1.5 NA engine felt underwhelming. Family also felt the same.
- Amaze - Great engine / grear box. But felt outdated. Although a facelift is supposed to be around the corner, not sure if I should play the waiting game. Also didn't feel it that spacious after being in an i20. Facelift could also be pricier.

I have a 2021 Mini 2 with no labels and no other restrictions, and I kind of want the new Mini 4 pro. But I’m not sure if it’s worth it, since I use drones very rarely (like twice a year) and the newer Mini 4 pro would need to be declassified in order to fly higher than 120m, or be classified as C1, right?
What are the major differences if I have a legacy drone and if I bought a new one and classify it as C1? I know at least I need to complete a course and not fly over lots of people, but are there any other perks on having an older drone?

I think this could have been his best song, or top 3-5. Kendrick insists, annoyingly imo, that he has to point of his hypocrisy. The second part of the song completely undermines or negates the first part. Not only is it not that good musically, more importantly I wholeheartedly disagree with the point being made. The premise of the song if I’m perceiving it correctly is that Kendrick (or the culture) laments all the murder in America but perpetuates it through a bloodlust for revenge.
I disagree with his saviorism. Do people really project this Jesus shit on to him? That’s kind of his whole thing, to the point of wearing a bejeweled crown of thorns, right? It’s childish to think music or artists can do that much to improve society, and I’ve always thought it immature that either he or his fans indulged this idolatry. Why does he feel like he is above even feeling those feelings in the first half of XXX, disregarding acting on them? “If somebody kills my son, that means somebody’s getting killed.” That’s exactly how I FEEL. I don’t believe it’s best to act on that, but art has the license to say that. I’d want to kill that murderer. Doesn’t mean I will, and that emotion doesn’t need to be called out as wrong in the second half of the song. Wouldn’t it be unnatural for someone to see their loved one murdered and just move on like nothing happened? That’s taking our humanity away. It isn’t godly to allow terrible people run roughshod on regular people. That is the challenge of society. We have to have rules but not be vigilantes or savages about it.
When someone takes the life of a loved one of yours, it is entirely natural to want something to happen to that murderer. Life is chaos and danger, built on constant collisions. If you don’t protect yourself, things may happen. Knowing violence is so ingrained in our nature and in nature at large, expressing that in music shouldn’t be considered such an affront to morality. If nothing were to happen to murderers, there would be even more murder than there already is. Murderers and criminals in general need to experience consequences in order for them to one of reform, be put away forever if they’re too far gone, and serve as a deterrent example for others. This is how society works, and I don’t see many other options as to how things could work.
Maybe make them two songs. First part second part. Because as constituted it’s almost like matter and anti-matter. Cancelling out such a powerful first half to a song does the song such a disservice.
I’m rambling, but I guess what I’m trying to get at is that first half was incredibly accurate as to how some may react to violence. I don’t think it’s ever been conveyed so succinctly and soulfully at the same time. I felt it more than almost anything I’ve heard in music. One part I’d like to highlight to “ain’t no black power when your baby kilt by a coward.” I don’t care what things we may have in common…if you do something crazy you will experience a reaction. I don’t think I’ve heard this said as well in a song too. In fact, if anything since we have some commonality that should make you even more sickened to your stomach that you did such a bad thing to me. Putting it in an American context with black people just lends the concept so much power because there is a sinister aspect of race/religion where people get you to accept what you shouldn’t accept under the guise of brotherhood. Family can hurt you just as much as a stranger, which is why actions should determine kinship. I believe that’s actually reflected in crime stats. I will provide two major tips:
- Try to make sense as a person / applicant: really, really try to make your essays align with the rest of your application. This includes your grades, ecs, and, most importantly, your LORs (which is a third-party confirmation of what you say in your essay, just lends more credibility). If you can be coherent in your overall thesis and show that you have personal depth and is mature, then you'll have a way better chance. This really just comes from actually knowing what you're doing and having a direction with your ECs. Ask yourself -- why do I want to do the things the way I do? why am i interested in this and not that? why am i the way that i am and what do i want out of the college app process? these are just helpful introspective questions overall that can not only make you a happier person, but someone much more appealing in the eyes of an AO. ultimately, college is a resource, and aos want you to use the resource well -- and who can do that better than someone who knows what they're doing?
- Its the intent that matters, not the material itself (to some extent): someone asked me earlier if doing nonprofits are worth it esp when so many people are doing them now. I think they are -- if you can show your passion through the ec. Again, the value of writing an ec down on the common app and showing it to aos is ultimately to underscore a part of yourself favorable in the eyes of the admissions officer. This is why yit's important to think from their perspective -- who doesn't like someone that is passionate about what they do and can justify that passion through a nonprofit or any ec? nothing is fixed and a lot of different ecs can work. to me, it's all about how you position yourself in the application.

I came back to play this game after about a year. I used to use Ness in elite, so I’m not perfect at all. I felt I played the game pretty honestly and never tried to camp, but it’s Ness and he’s a buggy character who’s annoying to play against so I get it.
I use Marth now for fun, and every single game is the same. I had one game that I played today against Roy which was actually fun, two guys just running at each other, not holding the shield for ages or sitting in the corner waiting for the other guy to run at them, not spamming projectiles across the map. I lost but I had no complaints at all.
All the other games were just so sweaty and unenjoyable. Bear in mind, I’m using Marth, so maybe part of my frustration is based on the limitations of the character. But every single game had someone projectile camping in the corner of the map just waiting for me to run at them because I have no other choice. Or I’d take the lead on them, and they’d start shielding it up and would not move around at all and then they’d win off of shielding and spamming a power hit to finish me off.

- Seat padding & backrest quality should be top priority: because these 2 parts will affect 90% of your experience and feeling when you sit on the chair. For me there's 2 popular types of seat padding in the market right now: Cushion (or Foam) and Mesh. It's a short statement, high-quality mesh is more comfortable than a cushion since it's breathable (wich support better air flow and don't make you feel overheated when sitting during long hours). But it doesn't mean that cushion seat sucks. If a chair makers use a high-density foam and incorprate lots of memory foam (a material made from PU, and also used in mattress to enhance comfort) layers, then the outcome quality of the cushion can be comparable (to some extent) with a mesh seat as well. However, with a normal person it's not easy to check this info, and as far as I know, most of brands don't public these details (density specs and foam layer technology). So if I have to make a suggestion, going for a mesh seat would be an easier option. And if you still prefer the cushion seat, consider choosing reputational brand like Herman Miller or Harworth. About backrest, I highly recommend you go for the mesh materials. Leather backrest is not meant for ergonomic, it's meant for gaming and some specific office/home decoration style. Fabric backrest is not worthy to invest, even though it's fairly cheap. And design? for me a single-panel backrest design is enough, but there're some products that offer multi-panel backrest (like the Sihoo DORO S300) for even more customized positions - which is also good because it can perfectly adapt to your exact position and create a good form for your back. But be notice that it will cost you extra $100-$300, so if you have generous budget, go for it. if not, there is no problem at all with a single backrest design
- Lumbar support, armrests, and headrest are 3 core adjustability features that you need, anything else is optional. A luxury chair can offer up to 10 different adjustability points. More adjustability features mean more expensive the price is, so I recommend that you just focus on certain things that really matter to you, and for me there are 3 of them: lumbar support, headrest, and armrest. Lumbar support matters the most because it directly affect your spine and back posture. A good lumbar support is the one that's highly adjustable in different angles/position, and you can check this out on the spec info on the brand's website. Do not go for fixed lumbar support because you will never know if the size of the chair fits with your body or not. I would be really mad if I buy a chair just to find out that its lumbar can not adjust to fit my sitting position. With headrest & armrest it's more easy to decide. Headrest should at least be able to go up/down and tilt to adapt to your head's proper position. 3D to 5D armrests should be fine for me, and going from 3D to 5D totally depend on what you need. with 3D armrest, you can move it up/down, forward/backward, inward/outward; 4D armrests can rotate left/right, 5D ones can rotate vertically. You won't need to pay more for 6D armrest, unless you are a real hardcore gamer or have a specific task that require it (with normal use case, I don't think that most people will need 6D armrest on your chairs). Additionally, there's couple of things you need to notice about armrests & headrest design: armrest should be lockable because sometime you will find it really annoying when you try to focus on something and would need the armrest to just stay in same position. With headrest it's a bit similar, some low-quality made headrests can easily slide up and down when you sit even if you don't want to, which is very irritating. There're not best practice on how to avoid this, so I recommend you checking different actual user reviews of the chair you intent to buy.
- Price: A basic ergonomic chair usually ranges from $199 - $299. With this price you will have basic material (foam, tpe plastic...), basic adjustability, and you can't expect all features that I recommend above (I take price reference for US market only, and my opinion could be wrong in some markets). With a bit higher budget, like $399 - $499, there are quite lots of choices that check 90% of my recommendations. I can name some including Flexispot C7 (mesh seat, 2-panel mesh backset and even a footrest), Autonomous ErgoChair Pro (mesh backrest, high-quality cushion, but their lumbar only offer up/down adjustments, you can not tilt it or push it forward or backward), Branch Verve Chair (this one have a fabric back, not the mesh one, but one of my friend who use it said she has no problem with that, it's still comfy for her). That is just my personal opinion and you should always look for more actual reviews of them before you make any purchase. Regarding the high-end segments, it's no longer about the specs but about the look and feel of the products, as well as how trusted the brand is. You can spend around $1200 on a HM Aeron Chair and can just forget about this post, simply because at HM they put lots of efforts in R&D, and the outchair is already made from finest materials, huge adjustability features and more importantly, its design is unique (the impressive thing about HM is that you can actually go to their website and find out who created which products, like the HM Aeron Chair is created by a designer named Bill Stumpf). Hi! I am a digital artist looking to build a new PC as my current one is getting so old it can't even support Windows 11 (and with Windows 10 losing support in a year-ish I figured It's Time). I plan on purchasing all the parts within the next couple of weeks and assembling the PC (with help lol) sometime over the summer.
