We are getting married in Sept in the KS/OK/MO area so not a horribly expensive area. Our vision was a ceremony in church and a reception at another location (not the church gym) where we serve a meal (thinking BBQ or maybe a pasta bar). We sat down and did a preliminary budget and came up with $27k. This was without florals and table rentals and gifts/tips to everyone helping us. We both agreed this was crazy and sat down and made some cuts. We eventually got down to $9500 by having the reception in the church gym and getting some of our friends to do the food instead of catering. This still does not include florals and table/chair rentals and gifts to anyone. I'm thinking with all of that we'll be close to $10-11k which I am fine with. We have $30k in the bank. I am more than happy to take the extra $20k and go on a nice honeymoon and save what's left for a downpayment on a house.
Still we have people (including our wedding coordinator who is a friend of ours) saying that we are way over what is reasonable. Our coordinator says they paid $3500 when her daughter got married in 2020. She doesn't want to look over our budget line by line to tell us where we are going crazy though. I'm trying to figure out what else I can possibly cut.
Our major line items:

• Photographer - $2200-2400 (called 3-4 places and this was their starting rates)
• Outfits - $1900 (we have $200 a piece for 4 suits/tuxes rentals so $800ish, 700 for a bride dress, another $200 for bridesmaid dresses (which the coordinator says we can find on Shien for that price) and another $200 for outfits for the miniature bride/groom, flower girls, etc....)

These alone put us close to $4k and we haven't even got around to feeding anyone yet. Our coordinator is telling us to save money on invites and STDs by just buying one and putting it on the church bulletin board. Alternatively she says we can hand them out to people instead of mailing them but this feels super tacky to me. Our other categories are less than $500-600ish and I am not sure we can really cut back there unless we want to go without a wedding license or no guest book or no cake. Is there fat somewhere else in my budget that I'm likely missing?

Question in the title. Sino dito ang nagsimula sa instant coffee bago nagshift sa mga roated beans? (As in instant coffee ang base mo sa mga coffee beverages na binebenta mo). Are there any differences or is it advisable ba? Or better bumili na lang ako ng cheaper but quality beans sa local market/palengke?

Interior, the sun visors don't stay up and it's pretty worn out.

• Expenses: HCOL city, $1160 rent+utilities, plus around $1,000/mo on "other" including gas, groceries, and other expenses.

Normally, I would be looking at used cars a couple of years old, but prices for used cars are nearly the same as new cars, so I'm leaning towards getting a new car, specifically looking at Mazda3 sedan, or Honda Civic, Subaru Crosstrek as alternatives.
The way I see it, I can buy now with a modest $10,000 down payment and have the monthly payment for ~$20,000 loan principal at ~$386 @ 6% 60mo and just pay it down quick, or potentially stop my 401k & HSA contributions for a couple months and buy the car in cash. If I stopped contributions, I would conservatively be able to save $3000/mo so by October or Novemeber I would be in a good stop to buy in cash, and maybe could be looking at a good end-of-year deal.
I'm waning on this decision though because I feel like I'm already behind on my retirement savings, really wanted to max out my accounts again this year - but I also really don't want a monthly car payment!
Any advice would be appreciated!

Am I cutting my finances too close trying to take this on? Should I even bother with earnest money and digging through the significant Due Diligence on this piece of property? The work will be done DIY.

I've been looking for a new (used) trailer for years. I finally found one that I like. I recently saw it in-person, and I'm talking to the bank tomorrow. My only dilemma is what to do with my current trailer? It's a late 90s stock trailer, 16'/24' long in floototal length. I would like to use the proceeds to help pay for the next trailer, but stock trailer prices are very, very low right now (~$3-4k). We intend to sand and paint it this summer, but otherwise I've been quite meticulous with its care. It has new wood floors & lights, and the frame is in good shape. The rest has been maintained and all tires are within 3 years old. I take trailer safety very seriously.
I'm not sure whether to keep it, since I've put so much care into it. My mother originally bought it back in the 2000s, and she has since passed, so I know it might be emotional to let it go. Still, life moves along and I know that she wouldn't want me to dwell on that (or take a larger loan to avoid selling it).
Thoughts? I could pay $10/mo to store it at my boarding facility, or take it to my farm 4 hours away where it'd sit. Annual registration costs are very low. It's doubtful that it'd get used unless the other is out of commission, but I keep hesitating and dwelling on what-ifs!

Tl;dr — my copy of MoSh arrived today. I’d forgotten I’d committed to getting the actual book. In the midst of trying times I needed a pick-me-up. And this certainly ticks that box.

A while back now, I heard of this new game, Mothership. I’m not sure where, but I responded to a post about it from someone called Sean McCoy (on reddit? On twitter? I don’t know now). He responded by sending me a beta copy, for free. I was impressed by his obvious enthusiasm for gaming, and for this game. So much so that I bought the Players Survival Guide when it came out, to support it, but also because I enjoyed reading the beta version so much. For the same reasons many reading this subreddit do.
Since then I’ve collected a bit of stuff for the game, all in PDF. I switched to PDF for gaming a while back - I couldn’t afford the hardcopy of all the games I was interested in, and certainly not with shipping to Australia. And MoSh and the thriving community output was no exception.
One day I weakened. I made an exception. I supported the KS for the remastered Into the Odd. When it arrived I thought ‘wow!’ — so much fun, so much possibility, and in such a small, elegant, package.
I didn’t regret the price paid, and I decided that for special games I’d definitely see if I could one day get a physical copy, because I’d forgotten how much power a physical copy of a game (rules or supplement or both) can have on you to inspire, to play.
It didn’t hurt that ItO was similar in size to my original Traveller Little Black Books, the first RPG I ever owned. It was what prompted me to get the copy of Old School Essentials when I saw it in my local gaming store. I liked the look & feel, and that I now held in my hand one of the keys to old school D&D, in a form factor that felt good. I felt a similar buzz when I got Death in Space, and Corny Grón, and a couple of other titles.
So why all this ramble? Well today I got a mysterious package at the post office. I was just thinking I had to sort out the mess that is my email and track down where I am with different Kickstarters. I’d forgotten what I’d done with the MoSh KS and thought I was just down for new PDFs, because it was so long ago and I was thinking it was before my hardcopy epiphany courtesy of Into the Odd.
I initially thought it was something from Amazon. Nope, wrong packaging. Also, better packaged. What was it? Then I saw the box the A5 black box, like the original Traveller, but through the bubble wrap I could faintly read ’Mothershiip’.
I was stunned for a second. Then, ridiculously pleased with myself. It seems that during a year or more of mixed good & bad stuff, I’d made at least one good decision that is now paying off. I took a moment to enjoy just looking at the box and its contents, and think about what it makes possible.
Now I have to put it aside for a while. Life has gotten busy and I’m not going to be able to do anything with this for a while. But it reminds me so much of all the good times with Traveller and SF roleplaying back in the day. Much of it Alien & other SF mystery/horror inspired, to be honest, and not something I’ve played much of recently.
And again, I thought: ‘wow!’ — so much fun, so much possibility, in such a small, elegant, package.
