2024.05.16 10:50 RevolutionaryAd8404 I NEED HELP FOR MY SCHOOL PROJECT PLEASE

To my situation: I need a solution for this problem (sorry for the bad translation, the origin is in german): Access control for four people (A, B, C, D) with a 4-digit code confirmation using C#. Only the admin input (passwords) is handled in C#, the rest is managed through Arduino IDE. My question is, can someone on here code this for me? I would pay up to 30€ for the code. Thanks

2024.05.16 06:59 Twilight_Realm Better User Resources to Combat Abuse of Moderation

Recently I've encountered a mod who abuses their powers as moderator to permanently ban all users who question their actions, then mutes them in mod mail when they ask what the ban was for despite 1) the subreddit rules clearly dictating that any ban message would be given with a specific reason for the ban and 2) the material the moderator removed and banned users for being completely within the rules of the subreddit (appropriate and relevant topics, correct flair, etc.). This mod conducted a mass banning of ~50 accounts, including people who weren't even aware of the situation the mod began banning for, or people asking questions about the rules others were being banned for. This is in clear violation of the subreddit's own rules and also the Mod Code of Conduct section 5. This leads me to my ideas: better resources to combat such a thing.
Upon digging to find a way to report Moderator Code of Conduct violations, I encountered the report form which does such a thing, except it has major flaws which prevent it from actually being used. Below are flaws in the system currently in place and potential solutions:
  1. Moderator names are hidden when mod mail is sent or received, including when bans messages are sent. Moderators can see the user's account, but the user cannot see the moderator's, thus giving an unfair balance and allowing abusive mods to violate the CoC without user's knowing who is doing so. The CoC violation report form has a section where you can list the offending moderator's account, but since you don't and can't actually know what moderator is abusing moderation, that section is entirely useless. This would mean that the mod team *as a whole* is being reported, not the offending mod. If the mod team is covering for the offending mod, then no action would be taken. Additionally, if you are banned from a subreddit, you no longer have access to the mod listing of that subreddit, so even if you had suspicions of abuse, you can't alone seek to rectify them with this form by offering names of mods who *may* be abusing moderation. Mods have free reign to silence your ability to criticize them *and* your ability to even know who you're criticizing to prevent proper reporting of abuse.
  2. Moderators can immediately permanently ban a user. The ability to permaban a user despite no previous offenses allows for moderator abuse to be perpetrated whenever a moderator likes. Permanent bans should not be dealt lightly, they should not be given unless egregious rule violations are being perpetrated by the user (such as continuous violation or illegal content). I'm not suggesting permanent bans be tossed, I'm suggesting instead an independent review of permanent bans which are given to users who have no other offenses in the community. Moderators from other subs could opt-in to independently review these bans to verify that the rules of the subreddit were indeed violated in way to justify the permanent ban for a first offense. If the reviewer doesn't agree with the justification for the ban, it could be sent back to the mod who dealt it who will then have to justify it further. If justification couldn't be satisfied, then submitting those bans to admins for final decision would prevent moderator abuse of the permanent ban.
  3. Similarly, moderators can mute you from mod mail at any time up to a maximum of 28 days at any given time. Similar to the permanent ban, muting someone from mod mail prevents their ability to appeal a permanent ban or even ask clarifying questions about the ban. This comes into play particularly with moderator abuse, as a ban can't be questioned and you have no way of appealing without waiting an entire month, even if the ban doesn't seem fair or the content which is marked as violation seems completely within the rules of the subreddit. This allows moderators to instantly and decisively stop all contact with anybody they decide, regardless of what the user has said in mod mail or posted on the subreddit. Mandatory escalation of mod mail muting duration would fix this issue, preventing a moderator from silencing critics of abuse instantaneously for a period of time long enough to obscure and bury that abuse. Rather than being granted the ability to give a 28-day block, the first offense should be the shortest duration, and escalating from there. In conjunction with that to prevent a moderator instantly escalating the duration as soon as the first ends, preventing the mute unless the user actually sends mod mail after the duration of the first mute ends would allow people who were muted to adequately appeal a ban or question without being silenced instantly. This process could be entirely automated. Alternatively, similar to the permanent ban independent review, a first mute being the maximum duration could also be reviewed to prevent mod abuse. The messages sent before the mute could be relayed and observed in a similar fashion, escalating to admins if abuse seems likely.
  4. Users have no formal say in moderation. Moderators for small subreddits typically don't have many mods, so this may not apply to them given the amount of people involved, however for large subreddits which are number 1 in Reddit categories the following suggestion could be applied to ensure users have a direct impact on the moderation of the subreddit: moderation polls. Users who have met a karma and activity threshold on the subreddit should be given Reddit-directed surveys to gauge the moderation of the subreddit over periods of time, with such surveys being sent when the threshold is reached, when a moderator leaves their position, or when a new moderator enters the position (after sufficient time for the moderator to begin actually moderating). If a subreddit's moderation scores consistently low with the most active users of a subreddit, then Reddit admins could be contacted and directed to open an investigation. Because of the karma and activity threshold which would be required to submit this feedback, the potential for brigading it to oust mods for no reason is minimal. Similarly, surveys could be sent to the mod team of the subreddit to self-evaluate moderation. If the scores are consistently different from user scores, investigation could occur if the mods think they are doing an excellent job but users think the opposite.
This is not written in anger over a ban, this is intended to perhaps enlighten some to how moderation looks and how users can be exploited by bad-faith moderators despite no violation of subreddit rules.
In summary, the tools moderators have can and are abused by moderators on occasion, but users do not have any way to actually report or challenge this abuse in any significant way. In large subreddits where mass banning would be unnoticed by the majority of users, the potential for such abuse is far higher. More power should be given to users of Reddit to change the imbalance which is currently present. This would not only improve how moderators function on Reddit, but also improve user experience in communities both niche and ubiquitous. Current tools are simply inadequate to combat abuse from violations of the Moderator Code of Conduct; the report form asks for information which you cannot access after the abuse has been done, moderators can instantly and permanently silence your ability to critique them or appeal abusive actions, and moderators have free reign to decide who moderates, allowing for mod teams to cover for each other and perpetuate abuse longer. Thank you for reading.

2024.05.16 06:03 Nicolecustoms Would I be the Asshole if I didn't shake my administrator's hand as I walk the stage during graduation?

I'm an 18 F, and I'm graduating high school. In my school, students have admins based on the first letter of our last names. I and some other students have never liked my admin. Throughout my junior and senior years, I was a part of the sciences Olympia, and I love it. Science Olympia is where each school has a team and compete against different schools in different events. Like code busting, scrambler, bridge, tower, and more. The teams with enough points/ 1, 2, and 3 places went to State. Last year, we went to State, and we were hoping to go to State this year. A week before we were going to regionals, I had a terrible flu and couldn't go to school for a week. And I had already gotten off the D and F list. (The D and F list is when you have a certain amount of D's and 2 F's and you can'tdo any school events until you grt your grades up.) Well I have gotten one of my F's up and was feeling a bit better on Friday and went to school excited to go to regions on Saturday. After school, when I was home I had gotten a call from my science teacher who helped run the science Olympia at my school to help tell me that I was on the D and F list again. Confused, I looked at my grades online, and I had gotten an F in this one class for mainly not being there. I couldn't help it since I was sick at home with the FLU! My science teacher told my admin about that, but she didn’t allow me to go on Saturday because I'm on the list I can't go even though my scince teacher was vouching for me saying that i was sick with the FLU. In the class I'm failing, the teacher for the class I'm in is failing me and putting in zeros for the assignments that I had missed for being sick with the FLU. Well, I couldn't go and I was devastated because i was looking forward on doing it and studyed a lot. Me and my mom and I had talked with the principal and agreed that what my admin did wasn't right. Present time my admin is still the same as she was even though she allows people being bullied and being a bitch to me and other people. I'm thinking of not shaking her hand as I walk the stage during graduation. What would you guys think? Would I be the Asshole for doing that?

2024.05.16 05:59 ModeratelyMeekMinded Just got offered a 72k a year position on a platter as a 21F… So what’s ‘the catch’?

I (21F) decided to drop out of university a couple of months ago after my third attempt at a degree. Bluntly, I just don’t think the way it works is for me. I’m ADHD/ASD Level 1 and, partially as a result of that, I’m an extremely literal person and I learn through examples of a concept or way of thinking in practice. I had to spend hours and hours of my time a week seeking out examples of every single topic I learnt in a class (say, I was in a class about political theory when I was trying out political science and they mentioned historical relativism, I then had to spend hours searching for examples of historical relativism to understand it). I also struggle a lot with hyper focus and there’d be days where I’d just read without food or even more than one or two bathroom breaks from 8am in the morning to 8pm at night. As you can imagine, I got super burnt out and I’d crash and burn and end up majorly depressed within a year, but then a few months later I’d convince myself that it was just because I didn’t like the material and try again. Thankfully, I finally picked up on the cycle and I walked away for good. Maybe I’ll try again in my mid or late 20s, but, right now, I’m done.
I still live with my parents and, when I told them I dropped out of uni full-stop, they just said: “It’s absolutely fine that you’re not in uni for now, but you need to get a full-time job ASAP if you want to continue living here” and I jumped right on it. My dad works in hospital administration and his manager told him to tell me to send my resume to HR there and they’ll maybe hook me up with something. Within a week, I got an interview with one department that I thought went solidly despite my utter lack of experience in hospitals or even in administration (my only work experience before has been nannying and working in OSHC/tutoring centres casually). The department head called me about a week later saying I wasn’t successful for that particular position but they really liked “my personality” and all my references were great and they were passing my resume onto other department heads.
A couple of weeks later, I got a call from an administration manager that oversaw the hospital’s Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit and she wanted me to come in and “meet everyone”. I thought this just was code for another interview so I got super prepped and came in ready to be grilled. As it turns out, the manager just met me in the building that all the heads and managers work out of it and took me to the unit. I met the head nurse and her and the manager just sat me down and told me all about the unit, warned me about some of the challenges (ward accepts children and seeing brain-damaged children come who have to stay there on their own for an extended period doing rehab with little understanding of what’s going on is, of course, distressing + majority of patients in the ward are young men who sometimes get argumentative and aggressive), assured me that I’d do several weeks worth of training so that I’d feel adequately prepared, allowed me to ask questions and gave me a tour of the entire unit afterwards. In the end, the head nurse said: “Looking forward to seeing on the 27th!” as she said goodbye. I was totally flabbergasted because it wasn’t even an interview - just a good, informative chat.
The admin manager told me as she was seeing me off that I didn’t have to accept the position if I didn’t want it, but I “have the job” and to please let her know within a couple of days what I decided. I have my reservations about how I’ll handle it (I’ve worked with disabled children in tutoring/OSHC but this is a lot different) but I really want to give it a try + I kind of need a job so I called her the next day saying I’d love to take up the position. I’m still kind of in shock. As I said in the title, I basically got offered this job on a silver platter and I’m in absolute disbelief about how this has all happened and how I just suddenly got a job on a random Tuesday. Like wtf?
I got sent some paperwork yesterday about the job and the minimum pay is $2820 a fortnight which is utterly INSANE. No, I’m not going to be rich, but, as someone who’s always worked casually around school and never earned over $700 a fortnight, I still can’t fathom that amount of money. Even after I take out tax, mandatory HECS (student loan system in Australia) repayments and the amount of rent my parents are charging, I’m still pocketing $1800 a fortnight. I can’t even believe it. I didn’t think it was possible for 21-year-olds without a degree to earn that much. I don’t even want to tell anyone around me because I’m afraid it’s some mistake.
I won’t lie. There are some cons. The job is from 7:30 to 3:30 M-F and, because of how far I live from the hospital and the fact that I can’t drive for medical reasons, I’ll have to get up before 5:30 in the morning. The admin manager also mentioned to me that the unit doesn’t really ‘do’ overtime and if I clock out after my scheduled finish time, a record of that time is kept and I can eventually apply for an extra leave day with it. Furthermore, as I mentioned above, there’s elements of the job I have mixed feelings about. I have a lot of trouble comforting people, so if a distressed patient or family member approaches me (which, in a brain injury unit, is probably going to be common), I’m not really sure what else to say other than: “Oh… Oh.. I’m sorry… That really sucks… Oh… Oh…” Nevertheless, both of those pitfalls still don’t seem to justify the 72k a year to me… It’s not like I’m literally taking care of these patients, I’m just talking to people coming in and answering emails and phones.
I’m super scared that there’s something that’s being hidden from me and that’s why they were so eager to get me, an inexperienced 21 year old, into the position. I tried to ask my mum the other day: “What if they’re just saying that the patients are ‘argumentative’, but in reality they throw chairs and spit at the admin or you’ll have to pull 11 hour shifts on the regular with no proper overtime or they’ll just leave me in charge of an entire ward and that’s why they’re so desperate to find someone?” My mum told me that I was being ridiculous and I’m “underselling myself” and she’s sure it will be fine… but I’m not 100% certain. I’m sure there has to be at least some level of transparency and professionalism because it’s a public hospital and it’s fully accountable to the government (the Australian health system is reassuring sometimes!), but there’s nothing strictly stopping them from straight up lying about what I’m in for when I start this job.
I really want an objective perspective on this because everyone I’ve personally tried talking about this to has brushed me off and said they’re sure I’ll be great… But I don’t ask if they think I’ll be great, I’m asking if they think this job is straight up too good to be true and they’re just dancing around the question. Randoms, what do you think?

2024.05.16 01:12 sparkleturkey Timeclock Suggestions

Hello. We do our payroll in-house and I am looking for timeclock recommendations. We are currently using TimeForceII but are having database error issues and the product doesn't seem to be in production anymore. We currently have 40 employees and 3 worker's comp codes.
Here's what I am hoping for:
-In/Out
-Integrates with QuickBooks Desktop
-In/Out punches import to QuickBooks as different payroll items depending on department (multiple worker's comp codes that are itemized on payroll reports and paychecks i.e. regular hours office, regular hours shop.)
-Multiple overtime rules (OT rules depend on department)
-Easy for employees to see hours worked for the day, for the week (preferably on screen when punching in/out)
-PTO/Leave Requests
-User and Admin approval of time
I feel like every product I look at it is either too simple or inflated with tons of features I'm not in need of. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

2024.05.15 22:51 devpat89 Not able to log in - IP blocked after single attempt

Update: marking this as solved. I don't know what caused the lock out - I'm 100% certain I only entered my password once. "Resolution" if it counts: I'm thankful I had the DSfinder app installed on my ipad through which I was able to see "IP Blocking" settings and managed to unblock the IP address of my PC. Had forgotten I had installed it on that device. Don't think it contributed to the issue as again, device is WiFI only and never open the Synology app. Just massively relieved!
Hi All,
Would appreciate some help here. I'm really confused what's going on.
Background
I last logged into my DSM 2 days ago on my PC. Just tried to log in right now and something odd happened, I'm used to signing in by entering my password followed by 2FA code even though it's my personal device. This time on attempting to sign on to my admin account, after entering my username I received a message to validate my log in using the Synology Secure SignIn app instead of entering a password. I do not have the app. I tried another non-admin account, still the same message. Upon attempting to log in with a password, instead I receive a message saying too many failed attempts have been made to log in and the IP address has been blocked. To be clear, I had not made any prior attempts from my personal device (it was sleeping until about 5 minutes before I attempted to log in). Although I couldn't access my DSM account, I was still able to access my mapped network drives. I tried to restart my PC and tried to log in again, but same result, and this time no luck with accessing mapped network drives either.
Edit to add: I never log into my NAS through any other devices besides this PC in my home network.
Existing Security
My NAS is exposed to the internet only via Plex. It is port forwarded so not the standard 32400 and behind a double nat. Plex has a secure password and also has 2FA.
I have firewall rules set up so only can be accessed in my country of origin UK, and after 3 or 5 wrong attempts I believe it blocks the IP. Prior to this I've never had any attempts made on my NAS.
I have my original admin account disabled, and the new one is super obscure. My password is beyond what is reflected here: https://caltechsites-prod.s3.amazonaws.com/imss/images/2023_Password_Table_Square.original.jpg
In addition, I haven't logged into my authenticator app on this device.
Oddities
One of the drives I have is dedicated to media. I'm still able to access this through Plex. I run Plex through docker and I am still able to access this through my NAS IP address.
Edit to add: I have DLNA enabled on my NAS, I'm able to access media through this as well (including through my PC).
I have another laptop that was also sleeping. I've just switched it on, it is still connected to my mapped network drives and I can access the majority of them (different limited access credentials), but none of the content is blocked by any means. I never attempt to log into DSM through this laptop. Only the initial mapping of the drives.
I've not received any emails notifying that I've been hacked/my content has been locked until I pay
Synology assistant isn't having luck finding the Synology NAS on the network at all either.
Maybe related
I've requested a speed upgrade from my internet provider. They've sent me a new router and asked me to plug it in within 5 days. I've not done this yet and was actually logging into my DSM account to double check all my settings prior to switching out.
If you're still reading, thanks so much!
At this point I'm clueless if it's something malicious or not. I'm going to run Malwarebytes overnight on my PC. Is there a chance that a change at my ISP side could result in the above?
I'm thinking worst case scenario I've been hacked, but let's say I have a keylogger on my machine, is it possible for them to break into my NAS based on my passwords alone? My 2FA is always from my personal phone and I don't log into that on my PC. Really not sure how else they could have gotten access, and again, no emails or anything, nothing has been zipped.
Would appreciate your help / suggestions on what I can do here please!
Thanks!

2024.05.15 21:01 Glad-Cost-9337 How I established a cheating empire at my strict private educational institution

Throwaway account bc yeah, I’m also not going to be too specific. This is going to be quite lengthy but I want to cover all of this right now. Originally I entered the school which for obvious reasons I am not going to name with good intentions. It was the gateway to a successful life and I studied hard and did well in this challenging school all first semester. But alas I folded. With my foreign language’s class grade dropping rather suddenly I looked for a way to cheat on our tests and quizzes which are daily. Quite easily I found that our software used to take tests had quite a few flaws. My original discovery which by now has gone rampant through my school was bringing in text through the clipboard. although the win + v shortcut was disabled if you take the keyboard off our computers that were school provided the on screen keyboard supplied a button to access it. I then found a way to screen record in our testing software using some custom html code that I wrote. I shared this with a notorious cheater in our school and we agreed to team up. I then over the next couple of weeks began to make a crew of kids that I was friends with all with the goal of cheating. We would record 1st period in classes and then scramble to make it into a clipboard to use on the quiz/test clipboard worked for the majority of our third quarter but it became somewhat rampant in our school and eventually everyone knew about it. I decided clipboard what not safe to use anymore and shortly after that a kid was caught using it. After that there was a kind of in between period where clipboard was able to be used in other classes just not the formerly mentioned foreign language class. I decided I was going to go all in. I needed to make something that could bypass this software. I started by gaining a local admin account on my school computer by using the commonly known “utilman” trick. Then in the following weeks I developed an injection program that was able to bypass the software. It allowed the user to switch windows with a specific hotkey. Now this group had been perfected or atleast I thought it had. We would record, make a doc with all the answers, and then cheat using the method I just mentioned. I do not know how but people began talking about recording and even though they did not know how it works it worried me. I began to search for other ways incase this was ever found out. I then made a modified version of a Remote Desktop software that was able to be used during the tests. Now someone else is able to take one of my friends’ quizzes and ace it for them. This is where this story currently ends. We are talking about cheating on exams which is a pretty difficult task as they are very heavily proctored.

2024.05.15 19:38 MythicalManiac Should I change careers? Feeling down bad today...

I (34M) expect to be fired today from my job as an admin at a college due to repeated errors I have made in completing complex forms. A name misspelled here, a date wrong there, and my supervisor kept telling me that I needed to complete these perfectly and quickly. This would make me anxious, and I would make more mistakes because of it. Now I'm going to be fired and its my 3rd time being fired from an office job because of lack of organization and speed of getting things done.
For this reason, I am seriously considering completely changing careers, like learning how to code, or something completely different, but right now my wife is in college getting her CS degree, and we wanted to start a family after she graduates in 4 semesters. Has anyone had success really changing careers, or any general advice for me, I'm at a loss and adrift...

2024.05.15 18:21 KARMA_HARVESTER Building a Mini-Website with ChatGPT and MacBook!

Hey Webdev community!
I'm currently experimenting with creating a small mini-website using ChatGPT and my MacBook. The goal is to include a welcome page for "Otego" and have an admin login feature. Once logged in, I'd have access to a text input window. While working on my MacBook, I'm using the integrated speech function to dictate the text. It's pretty cool to see my speech being converted to text in real-time in the text window!
ChatGPT has been generating the HTML code for me, and I've adapted it to fit the design I created for an email. The email features my "Ongo from OTONGO," the banana-tastic mascot of OTONGO. It's really fun playing around with HTML and websites again since I attended an HTML course over 20 years ago. Unfortunately, my life situation back then didn't allow me to deepen my knowledge. But now, rediscovering HTML and web development is super exciting.
I don't need to remember the intricacies of HTML code anymore; I just give ChatGPT instructions, and it does the job. I'm testing and trying out everything locally on my computer as HTML files, and the connection to my make.com automation works perfectly—I've just tested it. I'll be entering this text through my local HTML form, and once I submit it, my automation will pick it up automatically. I'm really excited to see the results.

2024.05.15 17:56 Mikomics Preparing for a Possible Career Change

Hi!
I have a dilemma. I'm about to graduate from a Media Technology B.Eng specializing in computer animation. Currently the animation industry is fucked to high hell. With the burst of the streaming bubble, the writers and actors strikes, the upcoming animator's guild strike and generative AI looming on the horizon, the amount of available work has plummeted. It's at the point where seniors are taking junior positions just to get by, so the chances of me finding employment within the year are low.
I still want to pursue animation, but if the animation industry takes years to pick up again, I want to do more than minimum wage during the meantime. Luckily I studied a very generalist media tech degree, and while I did focus more on the media and arts side than the tech side, I do have foundational coding skills. I also have a bit of knowledge of electrical engineering and arduino, though it's very rudimentary and I've gotten very rusty.
I know nobody can decide my specialty for me, but given my background, are there any specialties that would fit well? I've been considering database or network admin, since any reasonably large company will have servers and databases to manage, but I doubt that makes much use of what I already know.

2024.05.15 17:44 ccigames A message to Mr.Sujano

just saw the latest vid from Mr Sujano himself (thats how you know you've made it) so I'm going to elaborate on stuff from the news post I made yesterday and talk about stuff that happened after the post just to give you guys a better idea of what's going on behind the scenes:
Rafael starting talking again, although communication is hard (language barrier plus me not having perms for the main repo and not just a fork lmao). Bus/Crimson is back, turns out he was trying to replace and rewrite some code for optimization and SDK but hasn't pushed to git yet because of a building error. Breno hasnt started yet but will. as far as ik suyu_admin is still silent so idk whats on there. So yea, everything is going relatively well and I think if everything goes well then a summer release for the next update seems possible, although while you're waiting, you could check out some other projects I and some others are doing like the Wii Sports/Fit pc bundle port project or Sonic Hybrid Ultimate or some of the projects made by the prev suyu dev team, just making sure you have stuff to keep you occupied while the suyu devs crack on. if you want to help in any way, let me or another dev know either here, on the suyuzudachi/riisports discord or chat.suyu.dev. and for mr sujano, stay tuned
Cheers, Charlie

2024.05.15 16:19 vibe_keeper What Are Common Signs You Need External Help?

I've got a friend who is currently knee-deep in his startup, and let me tell you, he is feeling the heat. It's been six months in, trying to do it alone, buried in code, drowning in emails, and struggling to stay afloat with it all.
I've heard from others that these are signs it's time for some backup. You know, like bringing in a developer to ease the coding load and maybe a virtual assistant to handle the admin stuff. But here's the thing: how do you even go about finding the right people?
I'm hoping you could share some advice or tips on when it's time to reach out for that extra help and how to find the best guys for the job. Any thoughts?

2024.05.15 16:11 crossfirexavier WordPress Malware prevention

Hi guys,
I received a second dreaded letter the other day. I'm through the thick of it, and I've cleaned up all the malware, but this is the second time this has happened. I need your best tips to prevent malware incursions on wordpress sites. Our hosting provider is pair.com. I've completed all the remediation steps they requested, but I can't help but think that it's missing something, to have allowed a second breach. The first time they said it was a compromised user account. I could never find evidence of that, it's really possible it was. The second time they said it was because I didn't change the passwords of the users. I did. I setup a salt rotation also. I changed the db passwords and deleted all non-essential users.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
-signed exhausted sys admin, who shouldn't be doing website anything...
"Hello,
We are writing to you from the Security Department at Pair Networks regarding your web hosting account 'acmeinc'.
We have again received multiple third party complaints regarding both attacks and phishing sites related to your account.
In examining the issue it is apparent that, while some malware is new, the intrusion stretches back into other previous intrusions that were not fully and appropriately addressed. As mentioned during the prior incident, there were still issues of which you were informed that were dormant issues from yet prior exploits that were not addressed and that password protections put in place by Pair Networks were circumvented.
This remediation list will need to be fully addressed:
To allow you access to perform these tasks, we have setup password protection so that you can work without risking further intrusion or malware spread. You will need the following credentials to gain access:"

2024.05.15 15:35 karenvideoeditor The Zoo [Part 6]

First / Previous
Back on the job, my eyes kept going to the camera that was on enclosure one. Andrew told me its real name, but I think that’d be a step too far, putting that out on the internet. I’d just stick with ‘Steve the bear’. Whatever it was, I just knew I’d have a nightmare about it eventually. Last night I slept fitfully but okay. But I know my brain, and I’d already had a nightmare about Yui stabbing me with one of her legs (they are not needle-sharp in real life, this was dream logic) and walking around, having not noticed I was a Ripley-kebab on her leg. I kept trying to get her attention but for some reason I’d been worried about sounding rude.
On my third walk around the zoo, at about 12 a.m. I saw Leila again, who I’d been noticing more and more often. She never looked interested in talking, only walking through the enclosures, and by that I meant any and all of them. She didn’t seem to have a favorite. I assume that however much of her mind that was left over from being alive still gravitated toward looking at the animals, since getting too close was what killed her in the first place.
Then, in enclosure eight, I saw a new creature and stopped abruptly. This one looked chill, but I wasn’t about to make any assumptions. It looked unique in a strange way, shaped like a giant lizard but built like a big cat of some sort. It had an uncanny valley human face, green hair for a mane, and also a horn like a unicorn. It felt like something drawn by an imaginative five-year-old brought to life, but was still somehow oddly endearing.
“Hello,” she spoke, noticing me noticing her. Her voice was distinctly female and oddly deep.
“Hello,” I responded with false cheer.
She pushed herself to her feet and I took an instinctive step back, but she didn't seem to notice, much less take offense. “You’re the guard here?”
“Yup. That’s me.”
“Thank you.”
I blinked, taken aback. “Ah…you’re welcome. For what?”
She cocked her head. “For guarding me.”
That was different. Most of the impressions I had gotten from the animals so far were that they wanted to eat me. And the idea that this one was thankful for me doing my job was refreshing, don’t get me wrong, but made me wary. Call me a cynic, I guess.
“My name is tàiyang. You can call me Sun,” she told me.
“Hi, Sun. I’m Ripley.”
Then she looked toward the sky. “It’s going to rain tonight.”
After a thoughtful moment, I asked, “Does that make you sad?”
“Why would it make you sad?”
I smiled. “Because your name is Sun.”
She paused and then said, “I don’t understand.”
Honestly, I wasn’t sure what I was expecting, telling a pun to one of the animals. “Never mind.” I glanced up at the sky. “I thought the rain is supposed to stay away from here. Are the ones who told me that wrong?”
“Yes.”
“Well that’s good to know,” I murmured to myself, thinking of my raincoat hanging in the security office closet. It wasn’t that surprising, honestly. Sometimes I felt like the meteorologists in Arkansas try to read the entrails of goats to figure out the weather. It’s all a mess and it’s all made up.
At that, the animal looked to the sky and fell silent. She appeared to be the most uneventful introduction I’d had so far, and I was incredibly grateful for it. Except then the animal kept talking. “He’s under a spell.”
I blinked. “What?”
She looked back to me. “Andrew. He’s under a spell. He’s very unhappy.”
I had no idea how to react to that. For a second I just stared. The sudden jolt of being told my boss was currently being afflicted by magic left me floundering. “He… What?” I finally asked. “Where is he?”
“In his office.”
Oh shit. My eyes instinctively darted in the direction of the main office. I always just entered through the door on the west side of the building, of course, since it led to the security room. It was unnecessary for me to go through the door that first led into the lobby-slash-office Andrew worked out of. Sometimes he even left early, so it was locked anyway. I had the key, but again, it was unnecessary.
Whatever had happened, assuming this animal wasn’t joking around (she seemed completely serious), I needed to establish whether she was right. Leaving the enclosure of the animal I’d just met, I quickly walked back to the small building.
Taking a deep breath, I knocked loudly. “Andrew, are you in there?”
The only reply was silence. I stood there until enough time had passed that it was obvious that no one was coming to answer the door. Taking out my phone, I dialed his cell number and wait as it rang. Then I grimaced when I heard it ringing inside.
Hanging up and shoving the phone back in my pocket, I stared at the closed door.
Trying the doorknob, I found that it was unlocked, and my heart skipped a beat. Andrew always locked his office before leaving. Opening the door slowly, the lights were off in the room, leaving only the faint red glow of the lights outside peeking around his curtains, so I turned on a light. Then my heart plummeted into my stomach, because there was Andrew, splayed limply on the ground, his eyes only half open.
I bolted to him and dropped to his side as he let out a whimper.
“Andrew,” I said, putting two fingers to the side of his neck. He remained silent, and despite his relaxed, wilted appearance, his heart was racing, and I wondered if he was in pain. The room smelled, and it was clear to me that he’d lost control of his bowels. I couldn’t believe I’d been working here for hours without knowing he was in the next room like this.
“Fucking hell. I’m so sorry it took me so long to find you. Can you hear me? What happened?” He made a small sound, unfocused eyes attempting to meet mine, but it was as if he were severely deprived of sleep or something, unable to focus. His mouth opened and he tried to say something, but he couldn’t speak. All I got was halting words mushed into each other. I felt for him; he must’ve been mortified by his condition. I would’ve been, at least.
The obvious solution would be to get Suzanne’s number from Andrew’s phone, so I searched him for it and found it in his right jacket pocket. I pressed the button the iPhone, swiped, and let out a sigh of frustration. He was security conscious enough to lock his phone with a code, of course.
“Can you… You can’t tell me the code,” I said knowing. He grunted quietly.
“What happened?”
I shrieked and jumped to my feet. Leila stood in the doorway, staring in shock at Andrew’s body. “You scared the bejesus out of me,” I exclaimed. I stopped myself before asking if she could make some noise when she moved or if I could put a bell on her. “What does it look like happened? Someone put a spell on him.” Abruptly, my stance changed, standing up straight. “Wait. Do you know how to get in touch with…anyone?” I asked desperately.
“I know Ms. Cooper’s phone number,” she said frankly.
My eyes widened. “Seriously? How?”
“Andrew gave it to me after I worked here for three months.”
That stopped my brain dead in its tracks. “You…used to work here?” I whispered. I remembered Andrew telling me that one of the night shift managers had been killed, but he hadn’t told me it was Leila. Whether it was for her own privacy or her dignity or some other reason, it didn’t really matter. What mattered was that I could call Suzanne.
“I worked here for three months,” Leila confirmed as I took out my own phone.
“Okay…what’s her number?” I asked, ready to dial. She rattled off the number and dialed it.
The phone rang twice times before someone answered. “Hello?”
“Hi, is this Suzanne?”
“Yes, who’s this?”
She had a British accent like Andrew did. I took a deep breath and said, “It’s Ripley Mason. I got your number from Leila. I’m here in Andrew’s office and he’s in really bad shape. Someone cast a spell on him and it’s like he’s lost control of the part of his brain that lets him move around and speak.”
“What?” she snapped. “What happened?”
“I-I don’t know,” I said, glancing back to Andrew. He actually looked calmer now, and I hoped that was because he knew Suzanne could fix this. “I was doing my rounds and I met Sun; she’s the one that told me and that’s why I came into his office. I don’t- Who would do this? What do I do?”
“It’s okay, Ripley. I’ll leaving now and will be there soon,” she told me. I heard rustling in the background, the sounds of getting out of a chair and footsteps. “Did you check the security cameras?”
My eyes shut in irritation against my stupidity. It hadn’t even occurred to me. “I’m sorry. Of course, I’ll do that right away.” Proof positive that I was completely out of it. Some security guard I was, not even able to keep my head in an emergency.
“Don’t apologize, Ripley, you’re quite within your rights to be discombobulated at the moment,” she said. “And I’d like you stay with Andrew, but I would prefer to know what happened. Leave his side just for a second to check the footage.
“Okay.” I crouched down to him, putting a hand on his shoulder. “I’ll be right back.” His eyes flicked to me, but he didn’t make a sound. Getting back to my feet and walking over to the security room door, I went in and sat at my desk, putting the phone on speaker so I could more easily navigate the footage.
After fidgeting around with the unfamiliar aspect of the program, since I’d never needed to look back before and Andrew only showed me how to do it once, I finally went back to the point where the spell had been cast. “Okay, he walked into his office with two men at…4:08 p.m. and it looks like he was fine with it. He wasn’t under duress, from what I can see.”
“That’s likely Michael Wise and Eric Henry,” Suzanne told me. “They were allegedly making a donation, a herd of Bagot goats.”
“Allegedly?”
“Well, I’m operating under the assumption that they lied if Andrew is spelled.”
I grimaced. That was a good point. Watching them have a conversation, I saw Andrew tense, and then turn to dart toward his desk, but he only made it two steps before one of the men raised what looked like a wand, snapping it in my late boss’s direction, speaking something. As I saw Andrew’s body seize like he’d been hit with a taser and collapse, I hissed in a sharp breath. “Cripes.”
“What is it?”
“One of them had a wand,” I managed. “He-He did something with it.”
“I’m here, Ripley. Come back to the office.”
My eyes widened and I did as I was told, stunned to see her opening the front door. “How did you get here so fast?” I asked.
The woman gave me a small smile, rendered grim by the situation. “Call it a trick of the trade.”
“Oh. Gotcha.”
Suzanne was all hard edges, her pin-straight blond hair cut at an angle just below her ears, and she wore a smart blue pants suit with matching pumps. But then she looked to Andrew and her face softened, despair and fury flashing across it as she quickly walked to him and knelt at his side, taking his weak hand in hers.
“Oh, Andrew,” she whispered. “I’m so, so sorry. You’ll be okay. I already texted a healer and asked her to come by. A friend of mine named Janine.”
I looked back to Andrew’s face, his eyes open and his expression one of exhaustion, but then quickly looked to Suzanne. “Why would someone do this?” I asked.
“I have a feeling at least one of our animals is missing,” she told me, her voice low and hard.
Anger flared up in me. “What?” I asked tersely. I glanced back in the direction of the cameras. “Should we check the cameras to see which enclosure they went to? Do we- Are there cops you can call for this? What do we do?”
Suzanne’s face slowly faded to sadness. “I’ll take care of it,” she said. “You’re accurate in that I do have a different police I’ll call about this. But there’s a good chance we won’t get the animal back.”
“Wait, why? Come on, there’s got to be magic you could do, right?” I asked anxiously.
“The animal will have been warded and sold to someone immediately,” she explained. “They would’ve had a buyer set up, and gone straight there to reduce the risk of being caught with it. Anyone who is buying an animal like this is extremely powerful, which means that even if we catch the men who stole it, they’d go to prison, but they wouldn’t risk angering the buyer. They won’t tell the authorities who it was, even for a lesser sentence. Losing an animal to robbery has only happened twice in the zoo’s history, this is the third time, but that’s how it played out both times. Actually, in the first instance, the police didn’t even catch the people who took it, since they were wearing masks.”
Just then, there was a knock at the door, and Suzanne pushed herself to her feet, walking over and opening it without hesitation. “He’s in here.” I took the opportunity to open the windows and turned down the thermostat so it would start displacing the smelly air.
A woman walked in, Janine presumably. “Oh, goodness,” she breathed, going quickly to Andrew. She took his pulse with one hand as she pulled a wand out from her purse with the other. “It’s good he’s staying calm. Redire orior can be terrifying to be subjected to.”
“He wasn’t calm when I got here,” I told her quietly. “I’ve been here for hours and didn’t know he was here until just a few minutes ago.”
Janine swore softly. “All right. Let me get started.”
I didn’t know what that meant, so I turned to Suzanne. “What did she call this?”
“The spell is ‘redire orior’. It’s a regression of part of the mind, basically all the way back to when we were first born,” she said tightly, anger flickering across her face. “He has no more control over his body than he did when he was a newborn baby.”
I grimaced, looking back to him. “Oh my god,” I whispered. It meant exactly what it had looked like when I’d walked in: Andrew had been rendered completely helpless. Rage welled up inside me, despising the men who’d done this and wishing desperately that Suzanne had been more confident in finding them.
Suzanne took the opportunity to walk into the security office and I heard her sit in my chair. Janine put down her wand to have both hands free and told Andrew, “Just relax, concentrate on breathing slowly,” she said, carefully pulling both of his legs out and rolling him onto his back. She then put his arms at his sides and, picking up her wand, pointed it at his forehead.
I took in a sharp breath of surprise as I saw a faint glow coming from the wand, through the top of it and then to Andrew’s forehead. She held that position for a while, muttering under her breath.
A few minutes later, Suzanne came out and took her phone from her pocket, saying, “I don’t recognize either of the men in the footage. But they seemed distressed, particularly the one that didn’t hurt Andrew. I don’t think that’s what was meant to happen.”
“Meant to or not, it happened,” I muttered through clenched teeth. I’d already decided that my new to-do list every day included first checking the office cameras.
“Andrew,” Janine said, letting the glow fade. “Can you speak?”
“I…yeah,” he whispered.
Suzanne came over to my side. “Thank goodness. How are you feeling? How’s the vertigo?”
“Pretty much gone,” he said, closing his eyes for a long moment, though he didn’t try to stand up.
“Andrew, I pulled up the cameras in the office and listened to the audio,” she told him. “I know what happened.”
My eyebrows furrowed. “The cameras have audio?”
“It’s under admin privileges, but yes. Andrew, you should have known better,” she said softly, looking back to him. “The gun in one of the desk drawers? I presume that’s what you were lunging for, because those two men had just made it clear they were here for an animal.”
“Yeah,” he sighed. “I just…” He looked distraught.
“They told you to just let them get what they came for,” Suzanne said. “Why didn’t you?” My lips parted in shock.
“The last time this happened, I cooperated, but…I regretted it,” he growled. “We never saw Harriet again. I couldn’t just stand here and let them do whatever they wanted. Not again.” I assumed Harriet was one of their animals, but I didn’t ask.
“Don’t ever do something so foolish again,” she told him, on the verge of being upset, her emotions likely tempered by his condition. “I want to make it clear to you that this job, these animals, they’re immensely important, but they are not worth your life. He could have killed you. If someone gains access to the zoo again to steal an animal I want you to cooperate fully. Understood?”
“Yeah,” Andrew muttered.
The idea that Andrew had tried to bring a gun to a wand fight was staggering. Something heavy curled in my stomach at the thought. It was clear he cared about the wellbeing of the animals to a degree I hadn’t comprehended.
Janine took one of the small pillows from the couch and tucked it under Andrew’s head as Suzanne continued. “All right,” she said with a sigh. “I’ll go through the footage to determine what they stole and then call the authorities to report the theft. Janine, can you continue to treat him?”
I wasn’t sure what that entailed, but Janine apparently did, since she nodded and knelt back down as Suzanne went back into the security office. Janine did the same thing that she’d done before, that soft glow channeling light into Andrew’s head. Obviously, I wanted to ask what she was doing, but I knew better than to think I’d get an answer. Instead, I sat in one of the loveseats in front of Andrew’s desk, turning it to face them.
I heard Suzanne’s voice faintly speaking to someone on the phone and the minutes ticked by. Eventually, Suzanne came back out again and she stood next to me for a long moment, watching the healing process before turning to me.
“Andrew told me you were attempting to create some enrichment activities for the animals?” asked my boss.
“Oh, uh…yeah, I am,” I answered. I assumed she was trying to make small talk to distract me from the current situation, and I appreciated it. “The first one went well. Spike loves artichokes, pecans, and hazelnuts. I went with things that made it a challenge to eat, like it’s a challenge to pull out fingernails of its prey.”
Suzanne’s expression brightened just enough for me to notice. “Ripley, that’s wonderful. Very clever.” She let out a breath. “It’s becoming more and more obvious to me that Andrew chose well in hiring you.” I gave her a small smile. “Listen, I’m going to hire someone else to be here with you on duty,” Suzanne told me, “and by that, I mean someone from my neck of the woods. Andrew explained that to you, correct?”
“Not much. Just that you’re not from Earth.”
Suzanne smiled. “That makes me sound like an alien, but yes, I’m not from this dimension. I can hire someone who has similar abilities to mine, who can check in every few hours, make sure everything’s all right, but generally make themselves scarce unless there’s an emergency. He wouldn’t have been able to do much if he’d already been here, but he’d have known what was going on. Andrew would have received assistance immediately.”
I was curious of what those abilities were, aside from being able to see the animals, but I wasn’t bold enough to ask. Also, I was curious about who this new ‘employee’ would be, but presumably I’d find out sooner or later. “That would make me feel a little better,” I said, nodding. “Knowing there was someone else here.”
She nodded once. “It’s as good as done, then. As for Andrew, he’ll need to take a few days off to recover. Would you be willing to give the tours until he’s back in ship-shape?”
My eyes bugged out of my skull. “Wait, what? I can’t even see all the animals!”
Suzanne chuckled at my expression and shook her head. “I can enchant a pair of specs for you to wear,” she told me. “It’ll give you a bit of a headache, but you’ll be able to see all of the animals. Also, I’ll give you the background for each of them, because you’ll be speaking about them to the tourists.”
I blinked, thinking of how awesome it would be to finally know all about them all. And it was flattering, the fact that she had such confidence in me that, without hesitation, she asked if I could take over for Andrew. The best thing for me to do, of course, was to be confident and assure her that I could take any temporary promotion in stride. “I’m…I’m not great with people,” I managed.
Yup. Nailed it.
“You can be a little harsh with them if you need to,” she said with a small, knowing smile. “I assumed that signing up for a job where you interact with a screen of cameras the whole time means you aren’t great with people. And Andrew did brief me on you when he hired you. How good are you at couching your insults in polite talk? The British are quite skilled, but I know Americans aren’t too bad at it.”
I smirked, remembering how a coworker friend of mine once told a customer, “Oh, bless your heart,” in her thick southern accent and it sounded like the worst insult. “I can manage that, I think.”
A buzz from the gate that went to the panel on the wall drew our attention and Suzanne walked over to let the visitors in. It was three people, a man and two women, with a gurney.
Walking over to Andrew, I folded my arms with a small smile as Janine released his head from the glow the wand was emitting. “Hey. Sorry you had to lay on the floor for so long knowing I was cluelessly reading a book in the next room.”
“Eh, not the end of the world,” he whispered. “I’ll be back on my feet soon. So, no parties while I’m gone.”
I snorted and my smile widened, and he returned it.
Going back into the security room, I pulled the system back to the multi-camera exterior view, and I sat there and listened to Suzanne talk to one of the medics, explaining everything that had happened in detail. Once she’d done that and they brought Andrew outside on the gurney, presumably to a waiting ambulance, I gave my statement, and then…it was back to work.
Obviously going back to work like nothing had changed felt weird, but Suzanne stayed, letting me know that she would get some work done at Andrew’s desk until my shift was over. It was likely the opposite of necessary, the robbers were gone, but it did make me feel a tiny bit better knowing that she was in the next room with her wand.

2024.05.15 15:21 nvdave76 Looking for Fires of Kaos members

This is a shot in the dark.
I used to do coding at Fires of Kaos mud and I'm looking and hoping to see if I can lay my eyes on the source code again, after 20 years and several moves, the copy I had is long gone.
My user name there was Gorwolf. Some of the other admins were Nisis, Titanus, Tyris.
Fires of Kaos was an offshoot of Kaos HQ and was a heavily modified SillyMUD.

For example - I'm getting free internet. It was left in my flat when I moved in and I expected it to stop working after a week or so but it's still going over a year later. They hadn't changed the WiFi code or the admin password. At some point I'm expecting it to stop

2024.05.15 12:08 Genetis Hit me with your worst bad practice stories please!

Hello, I'm in need of some anecdotes and examples for a talk. It's about developing more robust and maintainable systems. I developed and presented it for Tableau Conference but plan to present it at SF events as well. The concepts are pretty generic and apply to anything that can be developed. What I need is examples from the Salesforce world, the kind of bad practise you see out there in the wild, usually because somebody is not familiar with other, more robust ways of doing things:
Things like:
Any example that would get an audience nodding in agreement is great. The overall topics I cover are:
It also doesn't need to be only code focused. As some of my examples above show, these concepts also apply for admin tasks.
Appreciate any input and examples you might have, thanks!

2024.05.15 11:50 MrRhum STOP EVERYTHING YOU'RE DOING ! THEY DROPPED AN ARG FOR TERMINAL !

Every recent post made me realize that these random flash drives with the description and all are not just a coinsidence bust must hide something and .... After looking up the terms ARRS Terminal I found it !
Based on the screenshot of flash drive, I determined that kostochkin_g_b was a login, so I typped "login kostochkin_g_b" and the prompt is waiting for a password.
Let's find out what Terminal is about and who is Mr. Kerman !
Edit :
Everything is part of the current event in Tarkov, I'm guessing the final quest is supposed to give us the password to Kostochkin_g_b account.
Here are the first results, I will try to update this post with every findings.
Website : https://arrs.host/
BSG did previous ARG (atthe launch of the game for example) using this website. All information can be found here, and might be connected to the ongoing ARG.
The related javascript behind can be found here , but it is obfuscated, there is clearly a root access to find linked to "admin" in the API, not sure how we are supposed to get access. If it has nothing to do with Tarkov and we are invited to "hack" it.
Already found:
A 5 months old video seems to be linked to the ARRS Terminal with whom seems to be "Mister K" (K for Kerman) discussing with a Bear agent that should have the credentials Sec_officer12. Based on this we are supposed to go further on the event, of find secrets so Mister K (BSG) unravels new informations. Also he mentions that he already contacted a mutual acquaintance, I'm guessing it might be Skier due to his sudden interest into Encrypted Flash Drives.
user : Sec_officer12 pwd: 321654test (thanks to u/picklebruh for the credentials, source) :
Found by Impressive-Drop-2796 sneaking into the source code :
(updated) User linked to the Event and the Flash Drive to decrypt :
How to find new clues :
Based on this found by CodingAndAlgorithm, there two types of flash drives :
I'm guessing that encrypted Flash drives contains the user on the description and Decrypted Flash Drives contains the associated password. We still haven't found a way to decrypt them in game.
Update : Completing the event quest line unlocks the recipe to craft the decrypted flash drive at your intelligence center. I'm currently stuck at this step as I had the good idea to craft VPX before the event.

How to interact with the terminal:

Based on the amount of comments, I'm guessing some of you need help on how to do it. Here are the available commands :
To login as Sec_officer12 for example you need to type : user Sec_Officer12
Followed by the password.
You can then Interact with the files by listing them and using the appropriate command: dir file archive_chatlog_{24.04}.txt notes note note_for_you
