I am aiming to build up a collection and invest smartly while developing 1-2 competitive Modern Constructed decks. I love MH3's roster and decided now was the time! I played two events and won two packs both times, for a total of 16 opened play boosters + 2 promo foils. Day one I pulled fetches and had garbage deck, overall happy with value, 1-2. Great deck with less value day two, 2-1.

For a total value of 150$ (20% taken off of website retail prices, and another dollar shaved off here and there to be conservative on cards I think are gonna tank hard, dollar uncommons etc.) Verrrrrrry happy with my value here as even with how powerful the set was a lot of people around me were opening up 100% bunk. Trade Breakdown It was pretty dry for trades, but I traded 2 Cephalid Coliseum for a playset of 'Master of the Pearl Trident", and picked up a Foil Vexing Bauble in exchange for a Foil Command of Kozilek. Not Bad. People traded me some Full Art lands in exchange for the new tokens, and I felt pretty good about all three minor trades. Trade value profit of about 3$.

Speculation
I know this is a finance sub, but I will include that I am developing merfolk and a red/white energy brew to play competitively in Modern Constructed and I think both these decks will see some new tech explode with some time. Playing competitively and winning packs is part of my finance strategy and so I thought including speculation of the meta may be relevant as it both directly and indirectly effects the meta. Black White Scam is very strong and Cthulu Eldrazi archetypes have yet to be tapped into fully.
Going up: Eldrazi, Strong Commander Candidates such as Laelia/Phelia/Azlask, Abstruse Appropriation is underrated currently and will find a place in meta I think.
Going down: Dollar Uncommons are only so due to short supply.
TLDR - Made most of my entry costs back on fetch, Planeswalker and uncommon value LMAO. Let me know if I fucked up on my valuations, or you think my speculations are whack. I just got back into the game and would welcome all feedback on how I move towards the cards I need for Modern Constructed. (Staples such as Multavaults, Gemstone Caverns, Merfolk Staples ETC).

Anyone read the "Situation Awareness" paper recently released by Leopold Aschenbrenner? He was fired from OpenAI a few months ago for "leaking" info, yet it seems like he was just requesting feedback on AGI from other researchers. I guess he was on the same team as Ilya Sutskever on keeping AI safe for society. Both no longer work at OpenAI.
For those of you who only seek to satisfy your confirmation bias with NVDA, skip to Section 3a: Racing to the Trillion-Dollar Cluster. He notes: "What all of this means for NVDA/TSM/etc. I leave as an exercise for the reader. Hint: Those with situational awareness bought much lower than you, but it’s still not even close to fully priced in."
In any case, the paper goes over his views why AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) will be reached around 2027 and ASI probably 2028/2029 due to growing compute, AI research and optimizations. And while he talks about weird stuff like multi-100 billion dollar GPU clusters and needing 20% of the U.S. power grid to power the next industrial and economic revolution, the scary stuff is in the national security risks with China, military advantages and the ability to overthrow governments. This sounds all Sci-Fi, but who knows, especially when you make something that's way smarter than humans in OOMs (order of magnitudes).
In any case, this is just one AI researcher's views. BUT! this young kid backed it all up with a lot of data and references. Who knows what the future is going to look like in a few years.

I would like to share the demo of a game I have been working on called FACEMINER, where the name of the game is to build and manage a data harvesting empire for a shady A.I. megacorp. Part management sim, part narrative-driven clicker thriller, it is hopefully at the very least one of the more unique games about biometric data harvesting that you will play today. This article on Rock Paper Shotgun probably explains it better than I can.

I made one just like this two months ago in this post- "About Season 3's Episode Distribution" Where I tried to see whether or not Arcs 5 and 6 could fit in a roughly 40 episode timeframe and it I saw that it was totally possible. There I guessed both Arcs 5 and 6, but here I'll only be doing Arc 5. I have my thoughts for Arc 6 too, but I'll leave that for once Arc 5's over. I honestly think Re:Zero will have a month or two break after Arc 5 before Arc 6 starts airing.

17 Episodes is also pretty unconventional for a 1 cour series, really it's bordering on two cours, but it's not something unheard of. Attack on Titan did final season part 1 with 16 episodes and Boogiepop (2019) did 18. I'm sure a studio who was able to get the TV slots to do 29:30 minute episodes can pull some strings for extended cours. But if they can't, they can always follow the new trend of double or triple length first episodes. If they decide to cram all of Volume 16 into one Oshi no Ko type episode, it can definitely work.

AAAAARGH! I wanted to gloat, but I was banned the morning the news was revealed, I couldn't respond to any of the comments or threads. I am hurt. Though I deserve that for commenting spoilers in a [discussion] thread.
In any case, here is the revised Episode count for Season 3 based on how I think it can go.
For the first 90 minute episode, I think we can all agree that they're definitely doing that so we can get to the Theatre of Malice chapter. The way Sirius made her appearance in the PV pretty much confirms it. We'll definitely be ending off the first episode with the image of Subaru learning he got RBD for the first time in over a year. The Light Novel illustration where it all starts dawning on him.

Imagine Subaru realizes what had just happened then we get either the new opening or ending to hit. While the OP or ED (I'm pretty sure it'll be the OP) is playing, were either going to jump to the credits or continue panning across Pristella with giving us a glimpse of all the other character's whereabouts or just the happy faces of the people, "clueless" about what's to come, setting up an ominous tone. A similar approach to how Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 ended episode 17. Another song possibility could be Theatre D since the word "theatre" is already there and it also fits the scene perfectly, but given how they played the Opening in the PV, they're most likely going to use that instead. Or they may just do both, use Theatre D to show Subaru realizing what had just happened, panning across the city, but for the credits they'll use the Opening.
Right now, I think Season 3 can totally work with either 16 or 17 episodes. I'm more leaning towards 16 episodes, but 17 is possible if White Fox chooses to go with that route.
I will say this now, I'm pretty sure Volume 16 will have the most cut content out of all Arc 5 volumes. Not only is it the heaviest with 83k words, it will also have the least amount of time given. I remember hearing Oshi no Ko was going to get a 90 minute premiere, but it turns out it was only 1 hour and 22 minutes. That can certainly happen with Re:Zero, and with the shuffling of Garfiel's chapter being placed onto Episode 1, they'll need to cram even more content.
This won't be an issue for episode 2 onwards because they can always go for extended episodes. So a volume can be adapted anywhere from 84 minutes all the way up to 100 minutes. And given Re:Zero's track record, it can probably be pushed even up to 118 minutes. So I'll just say now, it's better we all be prepared to not see Priscilla dancing in episode 4...

For Volume 17, I think it can be done reasonably with 4 episodes. Episode 2 will showcase all 3 of Subaru's deaths in Arc 5. Episode 3 will have Subaru, Emilia and Beatrice vs Sirius as well as Regulus' comeback and has all the HQ stuff. Episode 4 will cover the rest of Garfiel's flashback as well as what the team deciding what would be the perfect course of action. The episode will end with the cast getting ready to charge to the City HQ. And finally episode 5 will be all about them conquering the HQ.
In the case of the "Gorgeous Tiger" chapter, I honestly don't believe they're gonna play it all in Episode 1 because that'd be way too much. They can't. It'll ruin the story. And Tappei's "Wait, what the fuck happened?" cliffhanger of Volume 17 chapter 3 works perfectly when we just see Garfiel and Mimi covered in blood. I think they'll end off Garfiel's segment in episode 1 when he sees his mother. Then the rest of the gorgeous tiger chapter will be where it originally was supposed to be. I think they also switched it around for pacing reasons.

Volume 19 was a bit tougher to deal with. Tappei cut up the Regulus fight with the Lilianna fight and now they're mixed. I had to recut them into something fit for episodes sine the pacing was kind've weird if it was just placed in there as is.
For Episode 10, it'll cover the first part of Priscilla's fight with Sirius, then end in a cliffhanger where Lilianna is about to sing.

“Hear ye, everyone at the back! And those up close, watch my dance closely! And for those way in the back, I’ll be raising my voice, so you listen, too! Liliana Masquerade shall perform a song and a dance for you! Lend me your ears for ‘Beyond Daybreak’!”
—I’ll cram all these feelings into it!

Then it ends.
Episode 11 will open up with Lilianna's backstory. Covering all of that until the ending of the fight. This is where (I hope) we get great Anime original song from Lilianna. Then it'll end with Subaru and Emilia getting chased by Regulus
Episode 12 opens with Subaru and Emilia being chased by Regulus, here Emilia will summon the ice skating! The episode will end with Subaru pretending to be hurt and showing that he was playing ths whole time, and then Emilia shooting an icicle into the sky.
Episode 13 will show Emilia's POV on what happened and her confrontation with the wives. All the way up to the Death of Regulus.

For Volume 20, my thoughts haven't really changed.
For Episode 14, The prologue will show Julius and Ricardo fighting Gluttony, then we'll see Otto, Beatrice and Felt's fight with Gluttony, then finally Al vs Capella
For Episode 15, it'll be all about the Astrea from start to finish. It ends with painful shot of Reinhard, Wilhelm and Heinkel facing away from each other.
For Episode 16, the first part will be Garfiel's fight with Kurgan and that will be the final fight. I think the Theresia chapter is a far betting "ending" fight, but the pacing would be rather awkward since there's no other way to cut it. Ending with Garfiel's fight should be fine though as his character arc is strongly tied to Pristella and its people. Then after the smoke has settled and everything seems okay, we get the cliffhanger of Emilia asking who TF julius is.
I think Volume 20 is a bit too short for a full 4 episodes, being only 69k words, and without chapter 7, that number will be brought down to 56k words. If 77k words is average for 4 episodes, the average for 3 episodes (77kx0.75) is equal to roughly 58k words for 3 episodes, so the 56k remaining words (Prologue to chapter 6) is perfect for the ballpark of the 3 remaining episodes.

I also think 16 episodes isn't that hard to believe since Attack on Titan Season 4 part 1 has 16 episodes, and also I think the Julius cliffhanger can be Season 3's variation of the "Who's Rem" cliffhanger.

Sinn Fein are to “dust themselves down” after early indications showed the party has not had the result it had hoped for in Ireland’s local elections. It comes after the public expenditure minister said the expectation that Sinn Fein would be in the next government has been “shattered” by early indications in the local elections.
Ireland’s main opposition party faces a tough local election battle over the weekend, after government parties Fianna Fail and Fine Gael appeared on Saturday to have polled strongly.
A day after voters headed to the polls in three highly anticipated elections, the ballot boxes were opened at 9am on Saturday and counting began in the local elections.
Irish voters will elect almost 1,000 new councillors, 14 members to the European Parliament and, for the first time, one city’s citizens were asked to pick their mayor.

Tally indications show a surge in the Sinn Fein vote has not materialised in the local elections, while the Government coalition parties are welcoming early results.
Despite winning 24.5% of first preference votes in a historic result in the 2020 general election, and hovering above 30% in opinion polls for a long time, the fate of many of its candidates are now expected to depend on transfers.
Despite this, Sinn Fein is expected to still make some gains on the 2019 election, where it won around 9% of first preference votes and 81 council seats out of 949.
Sinn Fein TD for Donegal Pearse Doherty told RTE’s Six One programme that it will make gains in some counties, but would have to “dust themselves down” and look at “the lessons that can be learned”.
Its Cork North Central TD, Thomas Gould, said that the party still has a chance of increasing its seats across Cork city and county.
“It’s just that we don’t know how much yet,” he said at the Cork City Hall count centre, adding that despite poor turnout in some core areas, “we’re hopeful”.
Ireland’s deputy premier Micheal Martin argued that his Fianna Fail party had performed “far better” than predicted, while public expenditure minister Paschal Donohoe said the results so far showed Fine Gael was not a spent political force.
Finance Minister Michael McGrath said there had been “no massive breakthrough” for the far right in the Irish elections, despite concerns raised during the campaign.
“The early tallies show that there is a large majority of people who are willing to vote in a very different way to how extremists and the far right will make the case for,” Mr Donohoe said.
“I think there is a very compelling narrative to be made – at a very early stage in this – that Fine Gael has been successful in getting out its votes, that our campaign has made a difference, and that the approach of the Government parties has been recognised by voters.”
Despite the strong showing for government parties so far, ministers stuck to the line that the coalition government would “go the full distance” to February or March before a general election is called.
Asked about Fine Gael’s performance compared with Sinn Fein, Mr Donohoe said: “Overall, the portrayal that some have offered of Fine Gael as a tired party – that narrative, that claim, has been shattered by the results that we’re seeing potentially coming through at the moment.
“And the other narrative that there’s anything inevitable about Sinn Fein being in government – that’s been shattered too.”
Mr Martin said the focus would be on putting together a budget for October as his party looked to win an MEP seat in the Midlands-North-West constituency for the first time in 15 years.

“The idea that Fianna Fail would be coming in a distant third is completely disproven,” the Tanaiste said.
“I’ve been looking at opinion polls now for the last three years. This ‘internet panel’ polling having Fianna Fail at 14% and 15% – clearly Fianna Fail will be well ahead of that and will be over 20% by the time all of these counts are collated and put together.
“We put up a very robust performance and we’re holding our own compared to our performance in the general election of 2020.”

The full results of the elections will take days to be finalised due to Ireland’s system of proportional representation which allows voters to rank every candidate in each race by order of preference. The process means ballot papers are sorted and counted multiple times by hand.
Counting in the European elections will not begin until Sunday morning and the results of the first tally will not be declared until after 10pm due to ongoing voting in other EU states.
Irish politics is currently dominated by a housing crisis, the cost of living and migration.
The coalition partnership of Fine Gael, Fianna Fail and the Green Party has been battling criticism domestically and on the continent over other issues including climate action, agriculture policy and defence co-operation in the EU.
The polls will provide political parties with evidence of voter sentiment, having had to wait more than four years since the last nationwide elections.
They are also an indicator of how new Fine Gael leader and Irish premier Simon Harris is faring, having assumed the roles around eight weeks ago after the shock resignation of Leo Varadkar.

While the count for the European elections has not officially begun, the segregating of the ballot papers allowed observers to get a sense of which candidates are performing well.
In Dublin, incomplete tallies by noon suggested Fianna Fail’s Barry Andrews and Fine Gael’s Regina Doherty were leading.
Green Party incumbent Ciaran Cuffe, Independent Ireland candidate Niall Boylan, Labour representative Aodhan O Riordain and Sinn Fein hopefuls Daithi Doolan and Lynn Boylan will be fighting over the remaining two seats.
Mr Cuffe was asked if he believed he could stay ahead of Mr O Riordain and Social Democrat Sinead Gibney, the at-risk MEP added: “For the wildebeest, you just have to stay ahead of the lion.”
In the South constituency, Fine Gael’s Sean Kelly and Fianna Fail’s Billy Kelleher are considered to be in contention for re-election.
Sinn Fein will be hoping to regain a seat in the region with Kathleen Funchion, while Independent TD Michael McNamara is predicted to take the fourth seat.

In Midlands-North-West, there were reports of strong support for Fine Gael’s incumbent Maria Walsh and her running mate Nina Carberry.
Fianna Fail’s Barry Cowen, Independent Ireland candidate and former RTE correspondent Ciaran Mullooly and Independent MEP Luke “Ming” Flanagan have also polled well in some regions across the vast constituency.
In the south west, voters in Limerick city and county had the opportunity to directly elect a mayor with executive powers on long-term strategic planning.
A cross-party tally from midday indicated that Independent candidate John Moran, a former secretary general at the Department of Finance, was in the lead with around 25% of the votes, with Independent candidate Helen O’Donnell in second place.

TL:DR - I want to know how much in the wrong vs where the organizational process is to take blame?
I messed up by mistakenly re-imaging severs that were live in a production-1 environment, which disrupted about 700 VMs , and back to stability took 6 hours. I overlooked by not running a ping/sanity check. This made a huge noise and service unavailability upstream
Will I be fired ?
FULL STORY! My company runs Nutanix hyperconverged infrastructure at scale , and I'm an Infrastructure engineer here. We run some decently big infrastructure,
What happened ? - in our Demo (production-1) enviornment, there was a cluster of 21 hypervisors running , and serving about 700 VMs , let's call it cluster A

• This was 1 / 3 such clusters running. Where application VMs were supposed to distribute themselves enough to keep their availability in case one cluster goes down.
  
• I was asked to build a new cluster for some other reason where 9/21 hypervisors from Cluster A had to be reused upon confirmation that they will be removed and racked in the new site.
  
• We use a spreadsheet to track all the DC layout, and I misinterpreted a message from my DC team. Where they filled the new rack information with the 9 nodes populated. But because we are now repeating the node serial # , DC team color coded it. Indicating it will be populated soon (but they hadn't yet, only marked in the sheet)
  
• Starting here, I overlooked and didn't realise the colour coding. Thought that they were racked , and I can reimage then to form a new cluster.
  
• We use a tool to do this provided by Nutanix themselves, if you provide the newly allocated Hypervisor , Controller, and IPMI IPs , it gets to work and re images them completely
  
• i kicked it off, and immediately along with a senior got to know it had gone terribly wrong!! We got on a call and aborted it BEFORE the new media was mounted.
  
• HOWEVER - the tool had already sent the remote commands to 9 servers to enter boot mode. Which meant, the live cluster where these nodes were actually sitting - WENT DOWN. Now nutanix cluster can tolerate a node loss 1 at a time, and continue to do so until we hit a physical capacity unavailable situation.
  
• which means if I re imaged only one node and it sent down , probably nothing major would have happened except those VMs residing on that hypervisor would restart on another one.
  

BUT IN MY CASE - 9 WENT DOWN! - SHUT DOWN ALL VMS that couldn't power on due to lack of resources.
What followed next ? - we immediately engaged enterprise support with P1 - started recovery attempt praying that disks would still be intact - THANKFULLY IT WAS - It took 6 hours to safely recover all supervisors and power on all VMs impacted
Things I will admit to - - All I had to do , was fricking ping those hosts, and see if they responded - I did not do this - should've been more attentive to color coding in a sheet of 100s of server tags - maybe yes.
MY QUESTION TO THE COMMUNITY - - How could I have done this better , you don't have to know Nutanix , but it in general? - How much would you blame me for it vs the processes that let me do it in the first place ? - Can I be fired over such an incident and act of negligence? I'm scared.

This is exacerbated by using Acts 2 prescriptively to pressure a binary ‘all in’ or ‘all out’ in full time formal church ministry as a ‘second vocation’ and not doing so being culturally associated with being lukewarm. 2. Unbiblical view of salvation: Distinguishing “Salvation Decision” and “Lordship” as two events in a Christian’s life. It is unbiblical to believe that one is saved but does not fully know the implications of Christ’s lordship (Luke 14:25-35). This is not documented anywhere on their website, but a false doctrine practiced by the church and further exacerbated by paper slips being given to students at retreats to optionally make a “Salvation Decision” and count them decisively saved because they said so on this paper slip (This was practiced during my time there, I don’t know if it’s still practiced today).
   
3. Unbiblical practice of church discipline: Matthew 18 is not followed. People get silently excommunicated from the church without any announcement to the church (Matthew 18:17) of a clear statement of what exactly the sin was. How does the church know someone was truly in sin?

Would like to share my CFA experience.
First, I passed Level 1 and 2 on first attempt in 2021 when computerised testing was first implemented due to COVID. Felt both level 1 and 2 was tough but manageable. Passed both borderline above the MPS.
Took a break before starting to attempt level 3 in 2023 due to full time job. Couldn’t handle and hate studying, sick of CFA 😩.
Level 3 1st attempt. Preparation: Used MM videos, CFI question bank and mock papers. Was averaging 60% on CFI mocks. Wasn’t very strict on marking essay questions. Total spent about 200hours, but of which, only 100 was real focus study. Rest was just watching MM videos without taking notes. Was familiar with cheat sheet. Not super familiar with all the content. Took it light and easy, still went out with friends and stuff.
Actual exam: Felt managed time ok as managed to complete on time but with little time to spare to check.
After exam feeling: Felt quite confident that it would borderline pass again like other 2 levels. As expected at every level, knew that I flunked a handful of questions for each paper.
Result: Boy was I wrong. FAILED borderline. Did v poorly in ethics😟 and derivatives.
Level 3 2nd attempt: Preparation: This time, did not use MM videos at all, quickly ran through whole CFI curriculum. Focused more time on doing test bank questions, focusing on weak areas especially derivatives and ethics. Spent about 100 more hours of focus study time. Averaging mid 60% on mocks. Was very familiar with cheat sheet and good overall knowledge.
Actual Exam: Again felt confident would pass this time, having better overall content knowledge, formulas and how questions would be structured.
After exam feeling: As expected at every level, knew that I flunked a a handful of questions for each paper. Felt quite confident that it would be somewhere borderline pass.
Result: Borderline FAILED AGAIN. Very disappointed. Again, did poorly in derivatives. Improved on ethics but still only 50%. Did worst in alternative asset. I thought this was not the career not for me and wanted to give up.
Level 3 3rd attempt: Preparation: WENT THROUGH curriculum again, this time using 2024 Schweser notes (like I did for Level 1 and 2), wrote down notes this time. did CFI question bank, did same mocks again and new ones provided by CFI. No videos. Averaged high 60s and low 70s on mocks. Spent a good 150hours of focused study. Very familiar with cheat sheet. Familiar with content. Scared going in because I can’t imagine if I failed again.
After exam feeling: SHIT. Felt like it was my worst attempt yet. Stuck on a few questions and just stared at it for long time, did not know how to answer. Wasn’t confident at all with 50% of my answers. DID NOT have any time to check at all. Was typing to the last second. I was certain that I failed. Seriously felt like crying. All that studying gone to waste. Wasn’t good enough to be in this industry. Felt like a big loser. 😢
Results: Passed. I don’t know how but I thank God. This is truly a miracle.
Morale of story:

1. ⁠Don’t give up
2. ⁠The recommended study time for Level 3 is 350 hours. Believe it, don’t get complacent or take short cuts. Put in the hours. Schweser notes is good.
3. ⁠Feeling after exam doesn’t mean a thing. Most important is how much you have prepared.

My name is Rory Fars, and my little sister, Lily Fars, is the last family I had left.
A heavy sense of dread settled over me like a suffocating blanket as I sat in the worn leather seat of Lily's old jeep. The car, a relic of our happier days, seemed to groan under our shared sorrow. Beside me, Lily, my best friend, and confidante, absentmindedly twirled a strand of her long, dark hair, which swayed gently in rhythm with the haunting melodies from the oldies station on the radio. This car had seen us through countless joyful journeys when our family was whole. Almost three years had passed since that fateful Christmas trip in Texas when our parents were tragically killed in a horrific multi-car pileup. The memory of their loss was a constant ache, a wound that never fully healed.
My dad was from Amarillo, Texas, so my parents often took trips down there, visiting the places that held so many memories for him. During one of these trips, just before Christmas, a sudden blizzard struck while they were on the freeway. The snow fell in blinding sheets, making the world outside a disorienting white blur. As they tried to slowly pull to the side, their vision obscured by the relentless storm, they never saw the car barreling toward them at least forty miles an hour. The impact was devastating, an abrupt and brutal end to their journey and, in many ways, to our lives as we had known them.
My parents were always sticklers for safety, insisting on seatbelts every time we got in the car. So, of course, they had theirs on during that fateful trip. The initial impact wasn't what killed them, the coroner explained to me. Not even the first hit from behind, which was going at least fifty miles an hour, was fatal. I had to practically shake the information out of him—they were so resistant to tell me anything at first. By the time the third car hit, with an unknown speed, their survival was already in jeopardy. The coroner said that by the fifth car, they were likely dead. But it didn't end there. Another twenty-three vehicles slammed into the back of the pile, each collision further crushing their bodies, reducing them to a horrific, unrecognizable state. Each jarring impact pushed my parents deeper into a gruesome amalgamation of twisted metal and shattered lives.
I don't know why I felt compelled to demand those details at the time, but I deeply regret it now. I wish I had never asked. Almost every night, unless I drink myself into oblivion, I am haunted by nightmares of what they endured. I dream of driving up to save them, only to be caught in the same deadly barrage of cars, ending in a twisted metal tomb for all of us.
Lily is never in those dreams. Even in my most horrific imaginings, I can't envision her being hurt. Lily is my little sister, younger by eight years and three months. Whenever I mention our age difference, I see the judgment in people's eyes, but what can I say? Our parents never stopped loving each other. "We need to cover all potential points of interest," she explained, securing the camera in place. "This one will monitor any activity on the main road. We should place the other cameras around key locations like the mine entrance, the town square, and some more intact buildings."
I nodded, appreciating her thoroughness. "Good idea. We need to make sure we capture anything unusual."
Mark, having finally caught his breath, joined us. "Alright, let's get these cameras set up and see what we can find," he said, a hint of excitement in his voice.
"Look," Lily said, turning her tablet screen toward us. She waved her hand in front of the camera she had just placed. The tablet displayed five squares on the interface, each meant to show a feed from one of the cameras. Since Lily had only set up one camera so far, only the bottom right square showed any footage pointed at the road leading out of town. She stopped waving her hand, and the feed went to a blue screen.
"What happened? Did we lose connection?" Mark asked frantically, his eyes wide with concern.
Lily cackled, struggling to contain her amusement. Composing herself, she waved her hand in front of the camera again, and the bottom right square showed her hand waving once more. "It's motion-activated. It's the best way to save on battery life," she explained.

I glanced at my watch, noting the time. "It's 8:30. We're behind schedule. If you want to place the rest of your cameras, we better move now," I said, walking down the street.

It's not much longer before we make it to the Town Hall. I suggest Lily place a camera nearby. She nods and heads into a building across from the Town Hall labeled, "Slaughterhouse: LOCAL ANIMALS ONLY."
As Lily explores the building to find an adequate spot for the camera, I wait for Mark to catch up. While I wait, I can't help but imagine this town in its prime, picturing the streets filled with families who loved each other.
My thoughts are abruptly cut off by a sound echoing in the distance—a roar unlike any I've ever heard. It was a mix of a human screaming in pain, the roar of a lion, and, near the end, the howl of a wolf. The chilling sound sent shivers down my spine.
I jump to my feet and immediately call out, "Lily, you okay?"

"Lily? Lily, where are you?" I yell, using my shirt to shield my nose from the overwhelming odor.
"Rory, I'm in here!" I hear Lily yell from a room two doors down. I pass the first door, peeking in to ensure I hadn't misheard, but I wish I hadn't looked.
Inside the first room, I catch a glimpse of what appears to be a pile of animal carcasses, their decayed bodies arranged in a grotesque display. The sight is horrifying, the flesh still disturbingly fresh. The bile rises in my throat, but I force myself to focus on finding Lily.
I rush to the room where her voice came from, pushing the door open. Lily is there, setting up the camera, seemingly oblivious to the horror in the adjacent room. Relief floods through me as I see she's safe.
"Lily, did you hear that roar?" I ask, trying to keep my voice steady.
"Yeah, I heard it," she replies, her eyes wide with concern. "I was just finishing up here. Let's get back to Mark and figure out what that was." She had placed the camera in a window, pointing directly at the Town Hall.
We hurry back outside, where Mark still catches his breath as we meet between the buildings. "We need to stay together from now on," I say firmly, looking at both of them. "Whatever that noise was, it's not something we want to face alone."
"Let's check out the Town Hall!" Mark says excitedly as he slowly clambers through a broken window.
"Did he not just hear what I said?" I mutter under my breath, shaking my head in disbelief.
Lily gives me a shrug, her eyes reflecting a mix of amusement and exasperation. "Guess we're heading into the Town Hall then," she says, adjusting her backpack and walking towards the broken window.

Lily and I can't contain our laughter anymore as we bust out laughing hard. Startled by our sudden outburst, Mark jumps in fear. He looks around, confused for a few seconds, before realizing that we are laughing at him.
"Jesus, thanks, I guess," he says, clearly thankful but annoyed by our reaction.
After we contained ourselves, we headed back outside, exiting through the window Mark entered through. He struggles to climb out, but after Lily gives him a hand, he is safely out of the Town Hall.
"Alright, Ror, where should we put the next camera?" Lily asks me.
I stop to think momentarily, trying to picture the town's layout. "I think the only place left is the neighborhood," I respond confidently. I always talk like that with Lily. Over the years, I've realized she is the only person I can have that much confidence around. With anyone else, I'm worried about saying something stupid or wrong or how they'll view me, but with my sister, everything is easy.
As I look at the replica map of the town in its heyday from the museum, I determine that the neighborhood is to the East. "Okay, looks like we head East past the Library. Let's go." I say, walking away.
It only takes about eight minutes to get to the long strip of road that housed the town's workers. According to the map, there were fifteen houses along this strip of road.
The houses stand eerily silent, their wooden frames weathered and decayed by time. We walk down the road, our footsteps crunching on the gravel and echoing in the stillness. The air feels heavier here like the past is watching us, waiting to reveal its secrets.
"Let's put the last cameras on that house at the end of the road," I suggest, pointing to a house that looks slightly less dilapidated than the others, "another one at the last house on the other side, and the last we can save for a spot you choose."
Lily nods and heads toward the first house, pulling another camera from her backpack. She sets it up on the porch, positioning it to capture the entire street, and does the same in the opposite house. As I stand with Mark breathing hard, still unable to catch his breath since we first got here, I can't shake the feeling that we're being watched. I glance around nervously but see nothing out of the ordinary.
"All set," Lily says, breaking my reverie, "Still no ideas for the last cam?" Lily asks me.
"Like I said, wherever you think it would be best. I feel like we have enough good spots and angles, so go wild with that one," I told her.
She smirked and kept walking next to me. Mark was still struggling behind, but after the town hall mishap, he was trying his best to keep up. I looked at my watch, and it read '12:30 pm'.
"Holy shit, it's already 12:30," I said in amazement, but no one else seemed fazed. It felt like we'd only been here thirty minutes, not almost four hours.
We walked back down the street. Lily and I had been discussing on the walk that she should put the last camera at the town's only stoplight in front of the Library.
As we made our way to it, I could have sworn I was seeing something moving fast past my vision in the corner of my eye. Every time I turned to look, it was gone. I chalked it up to being my imagination until Lily and Mark both experienced the same thing.

"Well, it's probably just a cat or something," I said, attempting to downplay the situation, but neither seemed convinced.
