The defense and the prosecution today made their closing statements in the New York criminal case against Trump for falsifying business records to hide a $130,000 payment to adult film actress Stephanie Clifford, also known as Stormy Daniels. The payment was intended to stop her account of her sexual encounter with Trump from becoming public in the days before the 2016 election, when the Trump campaign was already reeling from the Access Hollywood tape showing Trump boasting of sexual assault.
The Biden-Harris campaign showed up at the trial today with veteran actor Robert DeNiro and former police officers Michael Fanone and Harry Dunn, who protected the U.S. Capitol and members of Congress from rioters on January 6, 2021. In words seemingly calculated to get under Trump’s skin, DeNiro said, “We New Yorkers used to tolerate him when he was just another grubby real estate hustler masquerading as a big shot,” and called him a coward.
When Robert Costa of CBS News asked campaign spokesperson Michael Tyler why they had shown up at the trial, Tyler answered: “Because you all are here. You’ve been incessantly covering this day in and day out, and we want to remind the American people ahead of the…first debate on June 27 of the unique, persistent, and growing threat that Donald Trump poses to the American people and to our democracy. So since you all are here, we’re here communicating that message.”
Yesterday, in remarks at Arlington National Cemetery in observance of Memorial Day, President Joe Biden honored “the sacrifice of the hundreds of thousands of women and men who’ve given their lives for this nation. Each one…a link in the chain of honor stretching back to our founding days. Each one bound by common commitment—not to a place, not to a person, not to a President, but to an idea unlike any idea in human history: the idea of the United States of America.”
“[F]reedom has never been guaranteed,” Biden said. “Every generation has to earn it; fight for it; defend it in battle between autocracy and democracy, between the greed of a few and the rights of many…. And just as our fallen heroes have kept the ultimate faith with our country and our democracy, we must keep faith with them,” he said.
His speech at Arlington echoed the message he delivered to this year’s graduating class at the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he urged the graduates to hold fast to their oaths. “On your very first day at West Point, you raised your right hands and took an oath—not to a political party, not to a president, but to the Constitution of the United States of America—against all enemies, foreign and domestic,” he said to applause. Soldiers “have given their lives for that Constitution. They have fought to defend the freedoms that it protects: the right to vote, the right to worship, the right to raise your voice in protest. They have saved and sacrificed to ensure, as President Lincoln said, a ‘government of the people, by the people, and for the people shall not perish from the Earth.’”
“[N]othing is guaranteed about our democracy in America. Every generation has an obligation to defend it, to protect it, to preserve it, to choose it,” he said. “Now, it’s your turn.” Biden spent more than an hour saluting and shaking the hand of each graduate.
In contrast, Trump ushered in Memorial Day with a post on his social media company, saying: “Happy Memorial Day to All, including the Human Scum that is working so hard to destroy our Once Great Country, & to the Radical Left, Trump Hating Federal Judge in New York that presided over, get this, TWO separate trials, that awarded a woman, who I never met before (a quick handshake at a celebrity event, 25 years ago, doesn’t count!), 91 MILLION DOLLARS for “DEFAMATION.” He then continued to attack E. Jean Carroll, the writer who successfully sued him for defamation, before turning to attack Judge Arthur Engoron, who presided over the civil case of Trump and the Trump Organization falsifying documents, and Judge Juan Merchan, who is presiding over the current criminal case in New York.
The message behind this extraordinary post was twofold: Trump can think of nothing but himself…and he appears to be terrified.
On Saturday, May 25, Trump had an experience quite different from his usual reception at rallies of hand-picked supporters. He was resoundingly booed at the national convention of the Libertarian Party in Washington, D.C., where Secret Service agents confiscated squeaky rubber chickens before his speech. Attendees jeered Trump’s order, “You have to combine with us,” even when he reminded them of his libertarian credentials—tax cuts and defunding of federal equality programs—and promised to pardon the January 6 rioters who attacked the U.S. Capitol.
Trump also promised to pardon Ross Ulbricht, who founded and from January 2011 to October 2013 ran an online criminal marketplace called Silk Road, where more than $200 million in illegal drugs and other illicit goods and services, such as computer hacking, were bought and sold. Most of the sales were of drugs, with the Silk Road home page listing nearly 13,000 options, including heroin, cocaine, ecstasy, and LSD. The wares were linked to at least six deaths from overdose around the world. In May 2015, Ulbricht was sentenced to life in prison and was ordered to forfeit more than $180 million.
Libertarians want Ulbricht released because they support drug legalization on the grounds that people should be able to make their own choices and they see Ulbricht’s sentence as government overreach. Trump has repeatedly called for the death penalty for drug dealers, making his promise to pardon Ulbricht an illustration of just how badly he thinks he needs the support of Libertarian voters. But they refused to endorse him.
Trump appeared angry, and on Sunday, as Greg Sargent reported in The New Republic, he reposted a video of a man raging at MSNBC host Joe Scarborough. In it, the man says that when Trump is reelected: “He’ll get rid of all you f*cking liberals. You liberals are gone when he f*cking wins. You f*cking blowjob liberals are done. Uncle Donnie’s gonna take this election—landslide. Landslide, you f*cking half a blowjob. Landslide. Get the f*ck out of here, you scumbag.”
Trump’s elevation of this video, Sargent notes, is a dangerous escalation of his already violent rhetoric, and yet it has gotten very little media attention.
Last November, Matt Gertz of Media Matters reported that ABC News, CBS News, and NBC News provided 18 times more coverage of 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s comment at a fundraising event that “you could put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables” who are “racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic,” than they provided of Trump’s November 2023 promise to “root out the communist, Marxist, fascist and the radical left thugs that live like vermin within the confines of our country.”
CNN, the Fox News Channel, and MSNBC mentioned the “deplorables” comment nearly 9 times more than Trump’s “vermin” language. The ratio for the five highest-circulating U.S. newspapers was 29:1.
Clinton’s statement was consistent with polling, and she added that the rest of Trump’s supporters were “people who feel that the government has let them down, the economy has let them down, nobody cares about them, nobody worries about what happens to their lives and their futures, and they’re just desperate for change.” She said: “Those are people we have to understand and empathize with as well.”
Sargent noted that news stories require context and that Trump’s elevation of the violent video should be placed alongside his many threats to prosecute his enemies. While there is often concern over disrespect toward right-wing voters, Sargent writes, there has been very little attention to the presumptive Republican presidential nominee’s posting of “a video that declares a large ideological subgroup of Americans ‘done’ and ‘gone’ if he is elected.”
Scott MacFarlane of CBS News reported yesterday that Republicans have ignored a law passed in March 2022 requiring the placement of a small plaque honoring police officers who protected the U.S. Capitol and the lawmakers and staffers there on January 6, 2021. It was supposed to be in place by March 2023 but has not gone up. A spokesperson for House speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) says his office is working on it. Kayla Tausche of CNN reported today that three of the police officers at the Capitol that day—Sergeant Aquilino Gonell and Officer Harry Dunn, both retired, and Officer Daniel Hodges, who is still with the Washington, D.C., metropolitan police—will be traveling to swing states for the Biden campaign to tell voters that Trump threatens Americans’ fundamental rights.
Finally, today, Melinda French Gates, co-founder of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, announced $1 billion in new spending over the next two years “for people and organizations working on behalf of women and families around the world, including on reproductive rights in the United States.” Only 2% of charitable giving in the U.S. goes to these organizations, she wrote the New York Times, and “[f]or too long, a lack of money has forced organizations fighting for women's rights into a defensive posture while the enemies of progress play offense. I want to help even the match.”

2024.05.29 03:53 Both_Courage8066 Best study techniques for the RD exam?

For starters, me and math are not friends. I catch myself getting lazy and just not wanting to do a lot of the FS questions because math freaks me out. I can do the FTE equations, but when it comes to yields and EP, I blank and get nervous.
As for metabolic pathways, I blank on those as well. What is the best way to memorize everything for the kreb’s cycle? I struggled bad in my metab classes and barely scraped by with the B I needed to pass.
For MNT, what would you consider the most important things to know? I feel confident with lab values, but I forget certain medications, specifically anticoagulants and insulins - both the generic and brand names.
For theories, I blank on those as well.
Any mnemonics you guys recommend for retaining everything? I just started doing practice exams this week and I’m scoring only 55% using Jean Inman. It’s honestly just a lot to know 😅

2024.05.28 20:40 GloriousBreeze False End Predictions

Have you ever walked into a Christian Bookstore lately? You will notice on the shelf (you know, the one where they have all the books that bash Jehovah's Witnesses for being false prophets) that there are a few curious titles. Check these out: Y2K TidalWave-D.S. McAlvany 2000 A.D. -Are you Ready? -P&P Lalonde 2001 -Dr. Jack Van Impe The Millennium Bug -Michael S. Hyatt As Time Runs Out Armageddon Final Warning -all by Grant R. Jeffries The End-Why Jesus could Return by 2000-Ed Dobson 1 & 2 Thessalonians: Living in the End Times-John R. W. Stott. The 90'S ; Decade of the Apocalypse : The European Common Market--The End Has Begun by Steve Terrell. Y2K- Feldham How Close are We? -D.Hunt Foreshocks of the Anti-Christ- eclectic Prophecy Watch -Ice & Demy 2000 A.D. & Predicting Christ's Return -Ice & Demy Anything by Hal Lindsey...and believe me, there is plenty more. ...and the Left Behind-the Series www.time.comAccording to this issue of Time magazine, evangelical authors, like Tim Lahaye and Jerry B. Jenkins are making money hand over fist, feeding on people's fears that the end is near. "A TIME/CNN poll finds that more than 1/3 of Americans say they are paying more attention now to how the news might relate to the end of the world, and have talked about what the Bible has to say on the subject. Fully 59% say they believe the events in Revelation are going to come true, and nearly one-quarter think the Bible predicted the Sept. 11 attack." This is the same magazine (Time, July 1, 2002) that calls Evangelical author Tim LaHaye, a prophet.
The fact is, many "christians" were awaiting the End/Rapture in the year 2000 or thereabouts. Other "christian" writers feed off that by even providing fictional novels of the coming tribulation with titles like THE WARNING(T.D.Bunn), BY DAWN'S EARLY LIGHT(G.R.Jeffrey &A.Hunt) and others like THE VISITATION(F.Peretti).
Ice & Demy warn: "As speculation intensifies, we must return to the teachings of Jesus to build a Christ-centered foundation for the future."
So, it is "False Prophecy" when JWs do it, but it is "speculation" when they do it.
In 1990 Ron Rhodes wrote "Millenial Madness" for the Christian Research Journal. In it he describes how the Christians in the year 999 A.D. feared the end also. Did he slam them. No, of course not, they were god-fearing trinitarian Christians after all.
Were there others in the past? Yes, most certainly. Early Church fathers Hilarianus and Hippolytus predicted the end in 500 A.D.(Paula Fredriksen-Tyconius and Augustine on the Apocalypse) Irish Bishop James Ussher's prediction was for 1996. Puritans Issac Watts, Joseph Mede and the Mathers in America were date-setters. The Father of Protestantism himself, Martin Luther taught Christ would return by 1564. Does that mean that all Protestants or Lutherans are false prophets? No, of course not, but they are by the reasoning of a certain few. German Reformer Philip Melanchton was a date-setter too, as was German theolgian Johann Alsted. Remember the booklet, "88 Reasons Why the Rapture will be in 1988" by Edgar Whisenant? Also "Christ Returns by 1988: 101 Reasons Why" by Colin Deal. Or the Korean Christians(Pentecostals) for October 1992?
The most famous one was actually a Baptist....William Miller who predicted 1843. Wait...there's more
In the 5th century, the Council of Ephesus decided the millenium had already begun. Pope Gregory I, 590-604 C.E., predicted the imminent end of the world. Spanish Monk Beatus predicts it for 800 A.D. An ecumenical council for the Roman Catholic Church announces Christ's return by 1000. Aelfric, the Abbott of Eynsham predicts it for the year 1000. Abbo of Fleury, the French Abbott predicts it for predicts it for 994/996. Richard of St. Vaast leads a pilgrimage for the predicted end in 1033. 1184 is the target date for the return of the Antichrist according to many... and again in 1345-1385 Joachim of Fiore(1135-1202) used the New Testament and the Trinity to proclaim the coming of the anti-christ in 1260 A.D. 1260 is also touted by Brother Arnold (Dominican Monk) Speaking of the Trinity, the Church Father who first coined the term, Tertullian was a Montanist(a deeply apocalyptical sect). Jean de Roquetaillade announced it for 1366 Roman Catholic, Arnald of Villanova, predicted the appearance of the Antichrist in 1378 The Taborites predict it for 1420. Priest Martinek Hauska announces doom for 1420. 2024.05.28 20:29 MirkWorks The Age of the World Picture by Martin Heidegger (Appendix)

From The Question Concerning Technology
APPENDIX
  1. Such reflection is not necessary for all, nor is it to be accomplished or even found bearable by everyone. On the other hand, absence of reflection belongs to a very great extent to certain definite stages of achieving and moving forward. And yet the questioning belonging to reflection never becomes either groundless or beyond all question, because, in anticipation, it question concerning Being. Being is for it that which is most worthy of questioning. Reflection finds in Being its most extreme resistance, which constrains it to deal seriously with whatever is as the latter is brought into the light of its Being. Reflection on the essence of the modern age puts thinking and decision into the sphere of effective working that belongs to the genuinely essential forces of this age. These forces work as they will, beyond the reach of all everyday valuation. In the face of these forces, there is only a readiness for their decisive issue, or, instead, an evasive turning away into the ahistorical. In this connection, however, it is not sufficient to affirm technology, for example, or, out of an attitude incomparably more essential, to set up “total mobilization” as an absolute once it is recognized as being at hand(*21). It is a matter of constantly grasping in advance the essence of the age from out of the truth of Being holding sway within it; for only thus, simultaneously, is that which is most worthy of questioning experienced, i.e., that which radically carries forward and constrains a creating into the future, out beyond what is at hand, and lets the transformation of man become a necessity springing forth from Being itself. No age lets itself be done away with by a negating decree. Negation only throws the negator off the path. The modern age requires, however, in order to be withstood in the future, in its essence and on the very strength of its essence, an originality and range of reflection for which we of today are perhaps preparing somewhat, but over which we certainly can never gain mastery.
[*21. Heidegger refers here to the central theme of Ernst Jünger’s “Die Totale Mobilmachung,” first published in 1931 as the preliminary sketch for his monumental book Der Arbeiter [The worker] (Hamburg: Hanseatische Verlaganstalt, 1932). Originally, on the basis of his experience of World War I, Jünger sees “total mobilization” as the fundamental characteristic of modern warfare. Primarily a confrontation between man and technology, war shows itself to be a “gigantic labor process” (gigantischer Arbeitsporzess). (See “Die Totale Mobilmachung” in Blatter und Steine [Hamburg: Hanseatische Verlaganstalt, 1934], p. 130.) In the evolution of Junger’s thinking, the meaning of the term “total mobilization” extends itself to denote the phenomenon which for him is the essence modern times: man’s dominating of the earth by means of his technological will. “The war front and the labor front are identical” (Der Arbeiter, p. 109). Viewing Jünger’s thinking in the light of Nietzsche’s, Heidegger understands “total mobilization” as the final realization of the metaphysics of the will to power, or as the final phase of “active nihilism.” See The Question of Being [Zur Seinsfrage], trans. William Kluback and Jean T. Wilde (New York: Twayne, 1958), pp. 41 ff.]
  1. The phrase “ongoing activity” [Betrieb] is not intended here in a pejorative sense. But because research is, in essence, ongoing activity, the industrious activity of mere “busyness” [des blossen Betriebs], which is always possible, gives the impression of a higher reality behind which the burrowing activity proper to research work is accomplished. Ongoing activity becomes mere busyness whenever, in the pursuing of its methodology, it no longer keeps itself open on the basis of an ever-new accomplishing of its projection-plan, but only leaves that plan behind itself as a given; never again confirms and verifies its own self-accumulating results and the calculation of them, but simply chases after such results and calculations. Mere busyness must at all times be combated precisely because research is, in its essence, ongoing activity. If we seek what is scientific in science solely in serene erudition, then of course it seems as though the disowning of practical activity also means the denying of the fact that research becomes ongoing activity, and in that way mounts to its proper level of performance, the more constantly does the danger of mere industriousness grow within it. Finally a situation arises in which the distinction between ongoing activity and busyness not only has become unrecognizable, but has become unreal as well. Precisely this balancing out of the essential and the aberrant into the average that is the self-evident makes research as the embodiment of science, and thus makes the modern age itself, capable of enduring. But whence does search receive the counterpoise to the mere busyness within its ongoing activity?
  2. The growing importance of the publishing business is not based merely on the fact that publishers (perhaps through the process of marketing their books) comes to have the best ear for the needs of the public or that they are better businessmen than are authors. Rather their peculiar work takes the form of a procedure that plans and that establishes itself with a view to the way in which, through the prearranged and limited publication of books and periodicals, they are to bring the world into the picture for the public and confirm it publicly. The preponderance of collections, of sets of books, of series and pocket editions, is already a consequence of this work on the part of publishers, which in turn coincides with the aims of researchers, since the latter not only are acknowledged and given consideration more easily and more rapidly through collections and sets, but, reaching a wider public, they immediately achieve their intended effect.
  3. The fundamental metaphysical position of Descartes is taken over historically from the Platonic-Aristotelian metaphysics and moves, despite its new beginning, within the same question: What is it to be? That this question, formulated in this way, does not come to the fore in Descartes’s Meditations only proves how essentially the change in the answer to it already determines the fundamental position. Descartes’s interpretation of what it is to be and of truth first creates the presupposition underlying the possibility of a theory of knowledge or a metaphysics of knowledge. Through Descartes, realism is first put in the position of having to prove the reality of the outer world, of having to save that which is as such.
The essential modifications of the fundamental position of Descartes that have been attained in German thinking since Leibniz does not in any way overcome that fundamental position itself. They simply expand its metaphysical scope and create the presuppositions of the nineteenth century, still the most obscure of all the centuries of the modern age up to now. Indirectly those modifications confirm the fundamental position of Descartes in a form in which they themselves are almost unrecognizable, though they are not for that reason the less real. In contrast, mere Cartesian Scholasticism, with its rationalism, has lost all power further to shape modern times. With Descartes begins the completion and consummation of Western metaphysics. And yet, because such a consummation is only possible once again as metaphysics, modern thinking has its own greatness.
With the interpretation of man as subiectum, Descartes creates the metaphysical presupposition for future anthropology of every kind and tendency. In the rise of the anthropologies. Descartes celebrates his greatest triumph. Through anthropology the transition of metaphysics into the event of the simple stopping and setting aside of all philosophy is introduced. The fact that Dilthey disavowed metaphysics, that fundamentally he no longer even understood its question and stood helpless before metaphysical logic, is the inner consequence of his fundamental anthropological position. His “philosophy of philosophy” is an outstanding form of the anthropological abrogation - not the overcoming - of philosophy. This is why every anthropology in which previous philosophy is employed at will but is explained as superfluous qua philosophy has the advantage of seeing clearly what is required along with the affirmation of anthropology. Through this, the intellectual situation finds some clarification, while the laborious fabrications of such absurd offshoots as the national-socialist philosophies produce nothing but confusion. The world view does indeed need and use philosophical erudition, but it requires no philosophy, since, as world view, it has already taken over a particular interpretation and structuring of whatever is. But one thing, surely, anthropology cannot do. It cannot overcome Descartes, nor even rise up against him, for how shall the consequence ever attack the ground on which it stands?
Descartes can be overcome only through the overcoming of that which he himself founded, only through the overcoming of modern, and that means at the same time Western, metaphysics. Overcoming means here, however, the primal asking of the question concerning the meaning, i.e., concerning the realm of the projection or delineation, and thus concerning the truth, of Being - which question simultaneously unveils itself as the question concerning the Being of truth.
  1. The concept of world as it is developed in Being and Time is to be understood only from within the horizon of the question concerning “openness for Being” [Da-sein], a question that, for its part, remains closely conjoined with the fundamental question concerning the meaning of Being (not with the meaning of that which is).
  2. What belongs properly to the essence of the picture is standing-together, system. By this is not meant the artificial and external simplifying and putting together of what is given, but the unity of structure in that which is represented [im Vorgestellten] as such, a unity that develops out of the projection of the objectivity of whatever is. In the Middle Ages a system is impossible, for there a ranked order of correspondences is alone essential, and indeed as an ordering of whatever is in the sense of what has been created by God is watched over as his sense of what has been created by God and is watched over as his creature. The system is still more foreign to the Greeks, even if in modern times we speak, though quite wrongly, of the Platonic and Aristotelian “systems.” Ongoing activity in research is a specific bodying-forth and ordering of the systematic, in which, at the same time, the latter reciprocally determines the ordering. Where the world becomes picture, the system, and not only in thinking, comes to dominance. However, where the system is in the ascendancy, the possibility always exists also of its degenerating into the superficiality of a system that has merely been fabricated and pieced together. This takes place when the original power of the projecting is lacking. The uniqueness of the systematic in Leibniz, Kant, Fichte, Hegel, and Schelling - a uniqueness that is inherently diverse - is still not grasped. The greatness of the systematic in these thinkers lies in the fact that it unfolds not as in Descartes out of the subject as ego and substantia finita, but either as in Leibniz out of the monad, or as in Kant out of the transcendental essence of finite understanding rooted in the imagination, or as in Fichte out of the infinite I, or as in Hegel out of Spirit as absolute knowledge, or as in Schelling out of freedom as the necessity of every particular being which, as such a being, remains determined through the distinction between ground and existence.
The representation of value is just as essential to the modern interpretation of that which is, as is the system. Where anything that is has become the object of representing, it first incurs in a certain manner a loss of Being. This loss is adequately perceived, if but vaguely and unclearly, and is compensated for with corresponding swiftness through the fact that we impart value to the object and to that which is, interpreted as object, and that we take the measure of whatever is, solely in keeping with the criterion of value, and make of values themselves the goal of all activity. Since the latter is understood as culture, values become cultural values, and these, in turn, become the very expression of the highest purposes of creativity, in the service of man’s making himself secure as subiectum. From here it is only a step to making values into objects in themselves. Value is the objectification of needs as goals, wrought by a representing self-establishing within the world as picture. Value appears to be the expression of the fact that we, in our position of relationship to it, act to advance just that which is itself most valuable; and yet that very value is the impotent and threadbare disguise of the objectivity of whatever is, an objectivity that has become flat and devoid of background. No one dies for mere values. We should note, for the sake of shedding light on the nineteenth century, the peculiar in-between position of Harmann Lotze, who at the same time that he was reinterpreting Plato’s Ideas as values undertook, under the title Microcosmos, that Attempt at an Anthropology (1856) which still drew sustenance for the nobility and straightforwardness of its mode of thinking from the spirit of German idealism, yet also opened that thinking to positivism. Because Nietzsche’s thinking remains imprisoned in value representation, he has to articulate what is essential for him in the form of a reversal, as the revaluation of all values. Only when we succeed in grasping Nietzsche’s thinking independently of value representation do we come to a standing-ground from which the work of the last thinker of metaphysics becomes a task assigned to questioning, and Nietzsche’s antagonism to Wagner becomes comprehensible as the necessity of our history.
  1. Correspondence [Die Entspechung], thought as the fundamental characteristic of the Being of whatever is, furnishes the pattern for very specific possibilities and modes of setting the truth of this Being, in whatever has being, into the work. The art work of the Middle Ages and the absence of a world picture in that age belong together.
  2. But did not a sophist at about the time of Socrates dare to day, “Man is the measure of all things, of those that are [der seienden], that they are, of those that are not, that they are not?” Does this statement of Protagoras not sound as though Descartes were speaking? Most importantly, is it not true that the Being of whatever is, is grasped by Plato as that which is beheld, as of whatever is, is grasped by Plato as that which is beheld, as idea? Is the relation to what is as such not for Aristotle theoria, pure beholding? And yet it is no more the case that this sophistic statement of Protagoras is subjectivism than it is that Descartes could carry into execution nothing but the overturning of Greek thought. Certainly, through Plato’s thinking and through Aristotle’s questioning, a decisive change takes place in the interpretation of what is and of men, but it is a change that always remains on the foundation of the Greek fundamental experience of what is. Precisely as a struggle against sophism and therefore in dependency upon it, this changed interpretation is so decisive that it proves to be the end of Greek thought, an end that at the same time indirectly prepare the possibility of the modern age. This is why Platonic and Aristotelian thinking has been able to pass for Greek thinking per se, not only in the Middle Ages but throughout the modern age up to now, and why all pre-Platonic thinking could be considered merely a preparation for Plato. It is because from long habituation we see Greek thinking through a modern humanistic interpretation that it remains denied to us to ponder the Being that opened itself to Greek antiquity in such a way as to leave to it its uniqueness and its strangeness. Protagoras’ statement runs: Panton chrematon metron estin athropos, to men onton hos estin, ton de me onton hos ouk estin (cf. Plato, Theaetus, 152). *23
“Of all things (those, namely, that man has about him in customary use, and therefore constantly, chremata chresthai) the (particular) man is the measure, of those that presence, that they presence as they presence, but also of those to which it remains denied to presence, that they do not presence.” That which is whose Being stands ready for decision is here understood as that which presence of itself within this sphere, within the horizon of man. But who is man? Plato gives details concerning this in the same place, when he has Socrates say: Oukoun houtos pos legei, hos hoia men hekasta emoi phainetai, toiauta men estin emoi, hoia de soi toiauta de au soi’ anthropos de su te kai ego: *24 “Does he (Protagoras) not understand this somewhat as follows? Whatever at a given time anything shows itself to me as, of such aspect is it (also) for me; but whatever it shows itself to you as, such is it in turn for you. You are a man as much as I.”*25
Man is here, accordingly, a particular man (I and you and he and she). And this ego is not supposed to coincide with the ego cogito of Descartes? Never. For everything essential, i.e., that which determines with equal necessity the two fundamental metaphysical positions in Protagoras and Descartes, is different in the two. What is essential in a fundamental metaphysical position embraces:
  1. The manner and mode in which man is man, i.e., is himself; the manner of the coming to presence [Wesensart] of selfhood, which is not at all synonymous with I-ness, but rather is determined out of the relation to Being as such
  2. The interpretation of the coming to presence [Wesensauslegung] of the Being of whatever is
  3. The delineation of the coming to presence [Wesensentwurf] of truth
  4. The sense in which, in any given instance, man is measure
None of these essential moments in a fundamental metaphysical position may be understood apart from the others. Each one always betokens, from the outset, the whole of a fundamental metaphysical position. Precisely why and in what respect these four moments sustain and structure in advance a fundamental metaphysical position as such is a question that can no longer be asked or answered from out of metaphysics and by means of metaphysics. It is a question that is already being uttered from out of the overcoming of metaphysics.
To be sure, for Protagoras, that which is does remain related to man as ego. What kind of relation to the I is this? The ego tarries within the horizon of the unconcealment that is meted out to it always as this particular unconcealment. Accordingly, it apprehends everything that presences within this horizon as something that is. The apprehending of what presences is grounded in this tarrying within the horizon of unconcealment. Through its tarrying [das Verweilen] in company with what presences, the belongingness of the I into the midst of what presences is. This belonging to what presences in the open fixes the boundaries between that which presences and that which absents itself. From out of these boundaries man receives and keeps safe the measure of that which presences and that which absents. Through man’s being limited to that which, at any particular time, is unconcealed, there is given to him the measure that always confines a self to this or that. Man does not, from out of some detached I-ness, set forth the measure to which everything that is, in its Being, must accommodate itself. Man who possesses the Greeks’ fundamental relationship to that which is and to its unconcealment is metron (measure [Mass]) In that he accepts restriction [Massigung] to the horizon of unconcealment that is limited after the manner of the I; and he consequently acknowledges the concealedness of what is and the insusceptibility of the latter’s presencing or absenting to any decision, and to a like degree acknowledges the insuspectibility to decision of the visible aspect of that which endures as present. Hence Protagoras says (Diels, Fragmente der Vorsokratiker: Protagoras B, 4): *Peri men theon ouk echo eidenai, outh hos eisin, outh hous ouk eisin, outh hopoioi tines idean. **27 “I am surely not in a position to know anything (for the Greek, to have anything in ‘sight’) regarding the gods, neither that they are nor that they are not, nor how they are in their visible aspect (idea).”
Polla gar ta koluonta eidenai, he t’ adelotes kai brachus on ho bios tou anthropou.*28 “For manifold is that which prevents the apprehending of whatever is as what it is, i.e., both the nondisclosedness (concealment) of what is and the brevity of man’s historical course.”
Need we wonder that Socrates, considering Protagoras’ circumspection, says of him, Eikos mentoi sophon andra me lerein: “We may suppose that he (Protagoras), a sensible man, (in his statement about man as metron) is not simply babbling on.”
The fundamental metaphysical position of Protagoras is only a narrowing down, but that means nonetheless a preserving, of the fundamental position of Heraclitus and Parmenides. Sophism is possible only on the foundation of sophia, i.e., on the foundation of the Greek interpretation of Being as presencing and of truth as unconcealment - an unconcealment that itself remains an essential determination of Being, so that what presences is determined from out of unconcealment and presencing is determined from out of unconcealedness in its particularity. But just how far removed is Descartes from the beginning of Greek thinking, just how different is the interpretation of man that represents him as subject? Precisely because in the concept of the subiectum the coming to presence of Being as experienced by the Greeks - the hypokeisthai of the hypokeimenon - still resounds in the form of a presencing that has become unrecognizable and unquestioned (namely, the presencing of that which lies fixedly before), therefore the essence of the change in fundamental metaphysical position is to be seen from out of that coming to presence of Being.
It is one thing to preserve the horizon of unconcealment that is limited at any given time through the apprehending of what presence (man as metron). It is another to proceed into the unlimited sphere of possible objectification, through the reckoning up of the representable that is accessible to every man and binding for all.
All subjectivism is impossible in Greek sophism, for here man can never be subiectum; he cannot become subiectum because here Being is presencing and truth is unconcealment.
In unconcealment fantasia comes to pass: the coming-into-appearance, as a particular something, of that which presences - for man, who himself presences toward what appears. Man as representing subject, however, “fantasizes,” i.e., he moves in imaginatio, in that his representing imagines, pictures forth, whatever is, as the objective, into the world as picture.
[*27. “As to the gods, I have no means of knowing either that they exist or that they do not exist” (Nahm).
*28. “For many are the obstacles that impede knowledge, both the obscurity of the question and the shortness of human life” (Nahm).]

2024.05.28 17:34 SeeCrew106 A brief outline why creating this subreddit was necessary

When I first discovered /skeptic, it was like a breath of fresh air. I am a rational skeptic, so here was a subreddit where several topics I am profoundly interested in converge. Conspiracy theories. Quack medicine. Dis- and misinformation and computational propaganda. Extremism. Pseudoscience. Cognitive biases. Philosophy. Debunking. Community events. Interesting and thought provoking science and scientific discovery.
This subreddit aims to be no different.
However, at one point, the moderator team was joined by a user called "ScientificSkepticism". I'm not sure at this point whether the arrival of this new moderator was an outside intervention, perhaps even by Reddit admins. I have no evidence either way.
But I can tell you this much: the subreddit changed from a place of wonder, learning and entertainment into a place of dread, pseudoskepticism, heavy-handed and biased moderation and ideological interventions in direct conflict with basic rational skeptic principles. Let's call it the Dolores Umbridge-effect. Although I'm well aware rational skepticism abhors paranormal claims, I likewise expect anyone to be able to distinguish a work of fiction and an allegory from said work of fiction from observable, empirical reality.
I'm thinking of two to three (series of) incidents at the skeptic subreddit specifically:
  1. One user posting repeated pedophile apologia on behalf of Jeffrey Epstein. While it is undeniably true that some of Epstein's alleged victims have gone on to spread baseless conspiracy theories, Epstein has victimized somewhere between 50 to 80 children. This user would demonize them all. Demonize Wikipedia as run by conspiracy theorists. Say things like: "Epstein's prostitutes don't deserve shit" and then follow around, demonize and harass anyone who disagreed, with the apparent tacit approval of the skeptic moderator team. This is wildly inappropriate and unacceptable.
  2. I lean left. However, rational skepticism's basic principles trump any political ideology I have, and if a claim passes several stringent skeptic tests, it will serve to adjust my ideological viewpoint. What I won't do, is subject a claim to several stringent ideological tests which then supersede rational skeptic ones. There are several things I won't tolerate on ideological grounds: blatant racial supremacism, nazism, fascism and pedophilia. Nazism and fascism can be scholarly defined by academic consensus and delineated, no matter what anybody says. I ensure you though, neither left-wing nor right-wing clown car activists are going to take possession of rational skepticism and misuse it to further any claim or agenda at odds with its foundational principles. In the immortal words of Jean-Luc Picard: "We've made too many compromises already; too many retreats. They invade our space and we fall back. They assimilate entire worlds and we fall back. Not again. The line must be drawn here! This far, no further!"
  3. Trans activists seemingly taking over the subreddit with full support of the moderator team and savaging rational skeptic, scientific, journalistic, encyclopedic and empirical principles on the regular. This, on top of defaming, harassing and demonizing even the most carefully worded, well considered critics of this behavior. I have seen outright handwaves and dismissals of statistical science, journalistic principles and empiricism alongside outstandingly blatant lying, alongside trolling.
Let me be crystal clear though: trans people have a right to exist. unequivocally. I am not swayed or influenced by American political culture wars, and this subreddit will strive to consider left- and right-wing positioning by an international metric rather than an americentric or anglocentric one. U.S. defaultism and imposition of cultural dogma from the United States without at least some minimal skepticism truly isn't the way to go.
While it's clear that the American political system is under extreme pressure from far-right extremism and teetering on the edge of a cliff right now, as are many allied countries who are suffering similar issues, none of that constitutes grounds for ideological filtering and moderation at the blatant expense of rational skeptic principles.
This will not be a place to ventilate your conspiracy theories, or corruptly claim ownership of rational skepticism through the promotion of fringe science, extremist nonsense or pseudoskeptic woo.
In fact, my first priority will be to apply rational skeptic principles rigorously. In the coming time, I will look at how I can restore the same climate which once existed at the "skeptic" subreddit. This will be implemented gradually, after initial disruption attempts (which will surely come) have subsided.
There is a high chance of failure. There is a high chance this project will never go anywhere and end up on the scrapyard of abandoned subreddits. The skeptic subreddit got where it is today based on many years of hard work and community involvement. That sort of achievement cannot be instantly replicated.
Obviously, I cannot do this alone. This isn't for me, but for the true rational skeptic community.
The sort of community which eviscerates nonsensical, biased and pseudoskeptic claims from conspiracy theorists, Trumpian extremists and highly aggressive activists from the left alike.
We're going to need a huge dose of luck. Comments should be open now. Share your experiences in "skeptic" if you like. This thread will see minimal moderation, and remove comments in violation of site-wide rules only.
Edit: several corrections/additions

Hello everyone, I just published a YouTube video talking about the key concepts of Jean-Paul Sartre's philosophy such as essence, freedom, responsibility, essence and bad faith. I have only focused on 2 books, "Existentialism is a Humanism" and "Being and Nothingness".
I believe this video can introduce you to his philosophy, please let me know what you think. I would really appreciate your feedback so I can apply them to the next video :) Thanks all!!!

2024.05.27 10:08 Designer_Media_NW Where to find Barbers / Clothing Stylists to help me look better?!

Perhaps a silly question, but I got a bit stung before by this and hence I figure I try asking.
I am a pretty average guy, 6'2 and approx 240lb - touch on the chunky.
I am very aware I have very simply basic (safe) style - normally dark colours, and athleisure type clothing - unless I'm at work, where its a rotation of the same style, just different jeans / t-shirts - but always clean and presentable.
I honestly try my best, working in my comfort boundaries - I am just terrible with colour theory and don't want to look worse (overthinking to the max).
I'd love to just 'hire' somebody to make some strong critical suggestions, be patient and outline some options that would suit me and show me how to vary up the style.
I've done a huge amount of YouTubing on this and I get the theory - but often what looks good on others, just doesn't suit me (my body shape being a key factor) - I've yet to put on a tailor / slim suit and felt like James Bond - usually just look like a fat guy trying too hard.
Is there such services for average folks? I've genuinely have tried asking friends, family - who I feel don't understand my dilemma and give me throwaway advice and 9/10 times the staff members in the store don't care to provide any help (just disappear, even in an empty shop). Although I did meet a very nice old gentleman in a suit section (M&S) - who went above and beyond for me - but such people are so rare.
About 5 years ago - I went to a well-known Hair Stylist for an 'Senior Stylist' appointment - I had great foundation of hair going past my ears, thinking its a great canvas for a new style - she basically gave me a '3' short back and sides and charged £80 for it - I died a little inside that day.

2024.05.27 03:29 mozaaz37 Debunk This: Jesus will come back in 2030

Hi guys, i'm a brazilian 17 year old guy that was happy, sympathetic and caring towards others, I am catholic and I participate in Sunday school every Saturday, but since the start of the pandemic in march 2020 onwards, i suddenly became brainwashed and paranoic with Christian conspiracy theories, mainly Qanon, and end times prophecies but in 2022 it only got worse, it all started at school when my sociology teacher who coincidentally was an evangelical pastor started talking a little about the end of times/Ragnarok and my friend said that between 2023, 2024 the apocalypse will begin, or it doesn't happen anything in these years, very probably in 2025 and 2027, and i searched on youtube and i saw various evangelical channels claiming that we are at the end of times and 2030 the world will end bc in that year Jesus will come back to only save evangelical christians and will only save those who are on the Life Book and will throw everyone who's those name wasn't on Life Book burn alive on the lake of fire of the hell alongside the antichrist, false prophet and everyone who followed him and God will destroy the universe and we will be living in the New Jerusalem, and they say repent of sins because the devil exists and they insist on saying that sin and the devil exist even though this has not even been scientifically proven, such as not wearing short clothes like shorts, jeans, not getting tattoos or piercings, not eating meat of pork, prohibiting homosexuality, free will, dating during adolescence and many others, they say that we are experiencing the greatest apostasy in history, which means that people are moving away from faith and and God and ignoring the warnings about the doomsday bc the world is becoming more ''sinful'' and the love between the people has been cooled and we are living like in the antediluvian days when Noah warned about the cataclysm but people ignored, mocked and called him demented and paranoid and instead they were eating, drinking and partying until the flood came and destroyed the world. world and killed everyone, and they keep repeating this saying that this is real even though it has been proven that it never happened and that it is impossible for a storm this strong to cover the top of Mount Everest, they think they are right and scientists are wrong, because science is an ''abominable sin'' against God, They say that God is merciful but he is also wrathful and cruel against those who do not follow his commandments. and they also talk about Jesus' appearance as if it were true at that time even though it has not yet been proven. i've watched some videos of these pastors and missionaries of my country and never got their prophecies and predictions wrong, all of things that have said become true
They say that geopolitical tensions are increasing which will cause ww3, it is no wonder that countless billionaires around the world like Mark Zuckerberg are building bunkers and selling several of their assets, i saw a letter written in 1873 that a American Freemason named Albert Pike who in his letter predicted the first two world wars, and is now supposedly ''predicted correctly'' the third world war, which would begin with a conflict between Zionist Israelis and Arabs, and also they claim that this war between Israel and Iran -Hamas is also the prophecy of Gog and Magog being fulfilled, They also say that the world will enter an unprecedented global economic crisis worse than the great depression, which would increase prices absurdly and this would culminate in the greatest famine the world has ever had, surpassing the great famine of the Middle Age,
They also say that elites such as the World Economic Forum, the UN and the Bilderberg Group will launch a gigantic EMP weapon that will shut down all energy and appliances in the world, and that they will then enact global martial law that will taking citizens off the streets and homes via buses and putting them in concentration camps and killing mainly white and conservative Christian groups and burying them in FEMA coffins which will start the famous New World Order and mass depopulation through the great reset and agenda 2030 and will put an end to all cash and create an electronic currency where payment is made with the global fingerprint, which they also say will replace passports with this global biometric password, they also say that They will do away with clothes and food and will replace them with processed foods made from insects, GMOs and laboratory-grown meats and everyone will be forced to wear the same clothes and have their names changed they also say that they will install government cameras inside the houses to know if any intruder is entering the empty houses
and all of this will begin the antichrist's rise to power, he will be a powerful leader who will unite all sovereign governments into one government and people will worship him and will implant the mark of the beast, where no one will buy and sell without it and will kill everyone who does not accept the mark, which means that everyone in the cities will die, only those who go to the fields or mountains will survive, it is no wonder that they are asking to stock up on water, non-perishable food, batteries , flashlights, medicines especially ivermectin (so much so that I've seen reports of people curing themselves of COVID using this medicine and chloroquine) and radios to survive between 2025 and 2027, because according to them, there will be a pandemic 30 times more lethal than the previous one that will kill almost 400 million people in just two years and that will be the period where seal the seven-year peace agreement between Christianity, Judaism and Islam and will sacrifice a red heifer in the Al-Aqsa Mosque, where it will be destroyed in sequence to begin the construction of the third temple where the throne of the antichrist will be during the final three and a half years
They also insists that global warming is a lie bc all of these disasters that are happening such as frequent strong earthquakes which happened in turkey, morocco, japan and taiwan recently, floods that left the southern of my country almost destroyed, tornadoes and hurricanes becoming stronger and killing more people and wildfires becoming more frequently is caused by these globalists, for example, the recent wildfires that happened in hawaii, canada and chile was caused by massive lasers coming from satellites and these floods and earthquakes caused by HAARP, and the fact-checking and social media such as reuters and afp is lying bc they are owned by rothschild and george soros for example
And i'm worried to have a cancer or a fatal heart attack when i become 20 years old that they discovered that in the last years have an increase on cases of cancer and fatal heart attack on young people, and they claim that is bc of the vaccines bc they contain aborted fetuses and microchips and graphene
And they also talk about the woke agenda, where defenders of this theory claim that globalists use films, video games and series to misrepresent characters from these entertainment industries to promote progressive agendas such as LGBT, black lives matter, abortion and feminism, for example, they made Ariel from The Little Mermaid black in live-action instead in white, as a way of indoctrinating masses and grooming children to be subjected to being perverse, it's no wonder that Disney is in one of the biggest crises in its history by excessively promoting identity issues in every film they release. And it's also no wonder that the number of abortions in the world increased over the last years
What I am most afraid of is the claim that globalists have knowledge of future events that makes the masses accept the event when a certain thing happens, this is called predictive programming, for example, in many disaster and science fiction films, there is a subliminal message in numbers called ''923'', supporters of this number mean that something very bad will happen on September 23rd, but obviously nothing happens, in White Noise for example, there was a train accident in the state of Ohio and in 2023 a train derailment with toxic products occurred in the same state as the film, Black Mirror ''predicted'' several technological innovations, The Simpsons for example predicted the September 11 attacks and Trump's victory in the elections, The Matrix also predicted predicted several technological innovations, such as the redpill movement and the production of babies in uterine machines. As for the Leave the World Behind', they say that the film predicted the accident of the ship that collided with the bridge in baltimore, Lastly, the film The Knowing is incredibly identical to the plot of the biblical apocalypse, but these claims are already debunked by fact checks
And i became scared of these prophecies that have been ''fulfilled'' such as Ezekiel which mentions that Dead Sea became filled with fishes and signs in the sky and stars disappearing
i will mention some of them:
They discovered recently that the moon have some rust pigments and the sun are frequently producing giant black spots which in apocalypse 6:12-17 means that the sun became black and the moon becoming blood
The days are passing faster, which on matthew 24:22 mentions that unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect's sake those days will be shortened. And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect's sake those days will be shortened.
The Euphrates River is drying up which in apocalypse mentions that the sixth angel poured his bowl over the Euphrates River and its waters dried up and released four demons who destroyed half of the population
Some Rivers and seas are becoming red, which refers to Apocalypse 16:4 that the third angel poured his bowl on rivers and seas and became red as dead blood
And I started to think that some mathematical calculations they do are simply not coincidences, they took the year the Black Death ended in 1353 with the year the WHO declared a global COVID emergency in 2019, subtracting those years would give the result in 666 (2019-1353=666 to be simpler) which alludes to the number of the beast and nd other math that they also thinks its a proof that we are at the end of times uf we use the word ''CORONA'' as a code where the alphabet is corresponding to its letter in ascending order (for example a = 1, b = 2), it would give the numbers 3, 15, 18, 15, 14, 1 will also give the number of the beast is correct if we multiply these numbers.
I'm trying to follow channels that disagree that we are in the end times and treat people with love, like the method of preterism where it states that the apocalypse happened in the year 70, but they say that this is heresy because in Matthew 24:24 it says that in the last days false prophets will emerge deceiving many people and in 2 Peter 3:3 where it says that at the end of time many will mock and disagree with the imminent Return of Jesus
i'm asked my parents and my friends to repent of your sins and believe in the Word of God, But I bothered them so much that now they don't even want to hear it,
however after all that, I started to think that these evangelical channels only preach fear in people, thinking that Jesus is going to return physically and that I have been superior all the time for no reason at all. I researched these things so much that now it appears when I search for an account on Instagram or YouTube, I would like to thank anyone who could give me some tips on how to get out of this and get rid of these pests, how i do?

Things were heading in the right direction for Harrison. The hand-held mining equipment was fabricated, drones were set to patrol and detect any incoming swarms, the settlement’s food situation was practically solved, and he had finally settled on how he would procure gunpowder.
Once again, the engineer was in the workshop late at night. Everyone else had enjoyed their dinner and gotten settled in for the night, leaving only him, Tracy, and a sleeping Shar in the building. There was little else to do at the moment, given that any factory line setup would simply be collecting dust until he figured out where he’d be getting potassium for the saltpeter, so he elected to busy himself by tackling some minor problems.
Take the lack of textiles for clothing and equipment, for example. They weren’t hard to make, but that didn’t mean he didn’t have to procure the materials and set the fabricator to work. Thankfully, he still had an abundance of pseudomycelium left to form synthetic fibers, so the only difficulty there was putting the two machines together. It wasn’t too hard of an ask to do by himself, but he was quickly learning firsthand why the Malkrin were vital.
He grunted in exertion as he channeled every ounce of his strength into his legs, his back starting to bruise from the sheer force placed against his muscles and the hard steel behind him. His breaths turned into ragged gulps for air, his feet struggling with each step over the floor ‘specifically designed to make modular processes easy to assemble.’ The pressure of his clenched teeth reached a painful crescendo as he finally brought the synthetic loom to its final position beside the fabricator.
He slid down the side of the machine, letting his strained inhales settle. Christ, he should have just woken Shar up and had her deal with moving the several-hundred-kilogram blocks of wires. It was too late now, though. A dry cough left him as he pushed himself off the floor and to his feet, approaching his desk.
“Hey…” Tracy’s soft voice stopped him in place. “Harrison?” She had rolled away from her drone-component-cluttered desk to face him, her head held low with a guilty expression residing on her face.
He tiredly raised a brow, his voice coming out in a deadened drone. “What’s up?”
She fiddled with the straps on her dirtied overalls nervously. “I know you just moved that machine, b-but we’re, uh, out of metal…”
His unintentional sigh trounced the fabricators’ hum and the quiet electronic music Tracy had playing through the speakers above her workspace. “Alright… I can recycle another table.”
She waved her hands in protest. “No, no. I just wanted to let you know. You don’t have… to…”
But he was already shuffling his sore legs to the other side of the building. He really didn’t mind using the recycler to help her out. If she finished her drones and set them to work finding ocean deposits, it would just about tie up all that the machines needed to produce gunpowder, and they’d be one step closer to locking down the settlement’s security.
An annoying screech cried out from the table scraping against the floor, egging a small, gnawing headache on, but the task was over quickly. His muscles felt like liquid as he hauled the brutalist furniture up and into the recycler. It hummed and produced the glorious shiny material in no time, meaning Tracy was able to continue her tinkering.
He returned to his desk, roughly falling into his chair, barely noticing the blurriness around his peripheral vision. Nor did he notice the ever-present static along his skin fade into numbness
His fingers sat on his keyboard, ready to start the textile process, but they refused to begin. He stared at his unmoving hands, confused. The command just didn’t click. It was simple, but his own limbs… couldn’t. Did they forget how to?
His eyes meandered from where he wanted to focus, pressure rapidly building in his head. The drain of nausea swiftly crept up on his disoriented mind, hitting him like a mean uppercut. It pulled his vision to and fro as he concentrated on keeping his head steady.
He couldn’t feel his own hands as he dragged them to the edge of the table to get a hold of himself, his grip uncertain.
Everything spun faster and faster, the objects in his vision becoming nothing but blurs. His stomach churned as he pulled his chair closer to the desk, crossing his arms on top and throwing his head into them in a last-ditch effort to stabilize something.
He shut his eyes.
His heart sunk, chest dropping the moment his lids closed. The world fell out from beneath him, the black abyss of his vision suddenly forming a bottomless pit, throwing him into its gaping maw.

Frigid air bit at his skin, his head spun, and short-lived thoughts washed through his brain as brief flashes of indistinct memories burned his vision like sun spots. Cryo pods, AI cores, and exposed flesh marred the faint shreds of his lucid mind.
…Where?
His eyes opened. He was standing in a valley of orange rocks, stumbling toward a cliff face within the mountainside. Everything was consumed by a white fog, blurred further by a smeared mask. Wind kicked up sand and dry dirt, washing it across the expanse like waves. The world was shown to him in a slideshow of images, each blink of his translating a time skip of several seconds as he traveled a wasteland of dust and stone. The crackle of earth beneath his feet echoed ethereally through the desolate biome, complimented by suppressed yet heavy breaths.
…What?
He felt sick, his head barely kept from lolling to the side as he tried to focus on what lay in front of him. His legs were water, unsteadily keeping him upright, heightening every aspect of his vertigo. A heavy weight within his arms dragged him down, yet he never looked down to observe it. His sights were only set on the sheer mountain face, a small beeping noise getting progressively louder as he approached. He felt like an observer, only experiencing the world through anothers’ perspective.
…Why?
A large metal blast door was embedded in the rocky wall, its corroded alloy peering from behind a particularly large boulder. He approached it, a spike of dulled anxiety striking his neck. Its exterior was dirtied by orange dust that obscured a small emblem on its surface.
A thousand fires burn within the land.
His hand wiped the soot off, revealing a simple insignia of an open palm showcasing a depiction of D.N.A.
Extinguish the failure once more.
He twisted the archaic valve and opened the door.
Shepherd the successful.
He entered the black abyss beyond the entrance.
Reclaim what they abandoned.

Harrison’s eyes shot open as he sat up from the… bed? His breathing was rapid, but it quickly slowed as he took in the surrounding room. It was the bunk room, though dim and empty. He rubbed his eyes, blinking away the last vestiges of sleep.
A thousand fires burn within the land.
So that was… a dream? Right. It didn’t exactly feel real, but it also hadn’t felt disconnected like the slumbering visions usually did…
Wait, he fell asleep? His eyes widened. That was… good. Amazing even. He couldn’t feel the static along his skin anymore, nor did he feel nauseous, which implied whatever was in his system had passed—Ceras tincture and the Rad-Away. That didn’t stop his muscles from feeling bruised and dried out, however. It also didn’t explain how he got to the barracks when the last thing he remembered was breaking his back putting some textile machine into place.
…Shar probably brought him here since he fell asleep. He sighed and slid out of… her… bed. Huh. He noticed his equipment placed neatly up against the wall and went to grab it. The familiar weight of the over-encumbered load-bearing rig tugged on his spine in just the same way his modified shotgun strained his arms. At least he was getting used to them after all this time.
The room’s door slid open with a short ‘woosh,’ forcing him to wince from how the lights in the hallway were still bright, which told him it was sometime during the day. How long was he asleep? He had been making up for three nights of sleep; no way it was just eight hours, right? God, he hoped he didn’t lose too much of the day. He had to divvy out the new weapons and start harvesting ore, and he knew damn well that wasn’t going to be a simple one-hour operation. That could wait another minute or two.
He meandered to the bathroom to relieve himself and wash his face. Someone was using the shower, but he didn’t bother checking who. Instead, he washed his hands and got slightly distracted by staring at himself in the mirror, noting how different he looked from what he last remembered. Obviously, there were shadows beneath his green eyes. His hair and beard were kept reasonably groomed by his fiddling hands and the daily shower, though they both differed drastically from the short side part and clean-shaven face he had when coming in as a pioneer… He’d have to shave again pretty soon if he wanted to keep using his gas mask.
He brought his arms up and rotated them around, inspecting the various healed scars and currently mending wounds from the previous blood-moon. They marred much of the skin over his surprisingly defined limbs. The amount of work he did on a day-to-day basis mixed with his fish-based diet seemed to have burned much of the fat he once had, only leaving toned muscles. Hell, even his callused hands looked worn out like a mech operator’s, especially around where he held his shotgun.
Two clicks from his side broke his attention, followed by Sharky’s voice, her words coming out almost… lightheartedly? “Are you admir—g your figure, Harrison?”
He regarded her with a raised brow before raising a second at seeing her shirtless form by the shower section’s doorway, revealing the white skin of her torso and abs, its soft coloring fading into the maroon around the rest of her limbs and face. He almost looked away before he realized that Malkrin females really didn’t have anything to hide—thank God she already had her black mechanic’s jeans on; he was happy not knowing how far that difference went. “Uh… yeah? Sorta?”
She made her way to his side, putting a towel and bundles of clothing down atop the array of sinks, her head hunched partially underneath the ‘low’ ceiling. “You have not slept long en—gh to lose your strength, if that is w—t you wish to know. I am happy to see you awake, h—ever.”
He gave her a curious look. “You say that like I’ve been out for days. How long was I asleep for?”
“You h–ve slept through the night and much of the day. Rest as—red, sunset is not upon us yet” She slipped her poncho on, doing the same with her rig, zipping it up with a practiced motion.
Damn. He internally groaned, turning the sink on and splashing his face with the cold water.
“Harri—n?”
“Yeah?”
She tilted her head quizzically. “I was mean—g to ask you earlier, but was unable… Are star-sent males m—nt to be taller than the females?”
What kind of question was that? “Uh… yes? Typically, anyway.”
“I figured s—h was true.” She nodded, putting one of her many hands atop his head horizontally, tracing his height back to herself and confirming his height reached a few inches above her navel. “You are quite feminine with y—r abnormal height and gifted strength—much more than one would a—ume of a male.”
He squinted at her, an incredulous look covering his visage. The pieces clicked together at a glacial pace under his uncaffeinated mind. Feminine…? Him? Shar? Oh… Yeah… Right. By her standards, he would technically be ‘effeminate’ if that translated to what he thought of as masculine. Then again, it wasn’t an exact switch of sexes, was it?
Shar was gigantic and muscular, but the latter wasn’t overwhelmingly so. It's not that she looked like she was on steroids or anything. It was a lot more refined, the real strength hidden by extremely well-defined and ‘moderately-sized’ muscles. Hell, her shoulders weren’t super broad either, despite easily eclipsing his own. Furthermore, she had—by his definition of the word—rather feminine eyes and leg shape too. So, it wouldn’t be fair to say that the Malkrin female was directly comparable to the human male. That wasn’t even touching on the four arms, frills, talons… horns… Huh. That was another weird thing. How come some of them had those head growths but others didn’t? The lumberjack and elder had them… and so did Shar. Was it an age thing? He’d ask the others about it later.
He slowly blinked, realizing he must have been staring for a minute. The poor paladin had started to look a little uncomfortable underneath his inspection. Especially considering the slight flush along her snout and cheeks.
“S-Sorry… Uh, yeah, you’d be right in thinking that I’m a bit off-course for a Malkrin male.”
“Yet, It does not take away from your qualities, d—rest Harrison,” she added, the sudden overwhelming warmness taking him off guard. Her attention shifted to the door behind him. “Are you r—dy to leave? Or shall I wait outside for you?”
“I’m ready to go, thanks.”

“Alright, now try for the furthest target—the three-hundred-meter one,” Harrison ordered, the grin spread across his cheeks starting to feel sore after being kept up for so long.
Cera nodded, bringing the FAL’s iron sights back to her eye and settling her aim across the rolling meadows down range. An unusable piece of lumber was set up on one of the taller peaks, almost far enough to not be visible.
A resounding crack broke through the late evening silence, echoing back several times as the sound reflected throughout the hills. He didn’t even need to use his binoculars; the distant chunk of wood clearly fell down.
He smiled and patted the gentle female on the lower arm. “Well damn… Looks like you’ve just about hit all the targets. You’re a Grade-A Marksman, Cera.”
She returned his mirth with a grin of her own, proudly flicking the safety back on and lowering the firearm just as he showed her. She had managed to take out the ten, twenty, fifty, one-hundred, two-hundred, and three-hundred-meter targets with absolute ease, only taking an extra shot or two for the closer ones as she initially got used to the gun. It was a shame the craftsman was too busy in the workshop to see his wife tearing up the range. Not to mention it was all with iron sights, too.
Cera clicked her tongue, garnering his attention. She pointed to the firearm, and then to herself.
“What’s that? Yeah. Again, it’s all yours. You can put these extra mags in your chest pockets if you’d like.” He picked up the extra twenty-round cartridges from a small table placed nearby, handing them to the black-colored Malkrin. She graciously took them and slipped them into place before looking back down at him with a tilted head as if to ask ‘what now?’ “That’s uh, that’s all I got for you. Feel free to return to the workshop whenever. Just remember the three rules of gun safety and make sure not to cause any negligent discharges, yeah?”
She bowed toward him in thanks, leaving the makeshift range for her mate with a skip in her step. The engineer sighed and regarded the wooden table, appreciating the pile of spent casings, various used stripper clips, and the belt-loading machine left on top of it. He’d already gone through teaching Shar and Akula about their weapons throughout the last hour or two, running them through the basics and having them learn their new weapons inside and out. Shar was initially appalled by the idea of disassembling her gifted M2, but quickly fell into line upon realizing that she could put it back together herself after cleaning it.
All in all, they were ecstatic to be given ‘staffs’ of their own, going through their own song and dance of thanks. The dark green-colored Fisherwoman was given a massive boost to her ego for ‘being entrusted with the star-sent’s power to defend his subjects’ or whatever she said. The paladin was somewhat similar, though she ‘managed’ to conceal her excitement, channeling it into her tail and threatening to crush him with the way it wrapped around him. Speaking of the massive Malkrin…
“The ceramist made q—te a showing, has she not?” Shar remarked, stepping up to the opposite side of the table from him, her pet drone’s electric motor whirring as it followed along the ground before doing a cute spin when she stopped.
“Sure did.” He grabbed the last of the three FALs, inspecting it and testing the bolt before briefly bringing up the iron sights too peer down range. The hand guard, charging handle, and trigger complex had been altered to fit the Malkrin’s larger hands, making it a difficult task for him to properly use the empty gun. “First, the syringe a few days ago, and now one of these. Are you sure everyone who works in pottery has an abnormally stone-still grip?”
The maroon-colored female rotated her shoulders, adjusting the weight of the machine gun and shield attached to her back. “Most of such a profession sp—d many seasons refining their abilities, but I sup—se she is unique in having ach—ved such a mastery of her own limbs.”
“It is impressive…” He put the firearm down, pushing it toward Shar. “Now, what’re we to do with this last FAL?”
“Was it not int—ded for Tracy’s use?”
He shook his head, slightly irked at the reminder. “No, it was. When I went into the workshop to get her, she vehemently refused to use it… She didn’t even want to learn how to shoot it.”
Shar’s head tilted. “She wishes n–t to be capable of her own def—se?”
“I don’t know,” he huffed, resting his palms on the table’s coarse wood. “She has her reasons, and I’m not gonna force her to do anything. At least her drones are coming along well… Anyway, do you think I should just recycle this FAL, or let Akula have her dream of duel-wielding them?”
“Giving Akula a second weapon w—ld not be favorable,” she returned seriously, taking on a more calculating tone. “I bel—ve it would be best if more of us were armed, so we might be capable of safely splitt—g up groups to perform other tasks.”
His brow raised at her idea. “What do you mean by that?”
The massive female held out a palm as if presenting a proposition. “Earlier, you inf—med me that you wished for us to be able to harvest resources outside the settlem—t’s safety, no? Like your analogy for the fly—g machines: it allows us to cast a wider net. I do not know if you are capable of prod—ing more of these staffs, or if you wish to give them to others bey—d those you have already blessed, but I bel—ve it would be best if we had more of the set—ement armed.”
He paused, squinting at the giant female across from him. Did she believe everyone should be given a gun? It was a reasonable take in their dire situation, honestly, but not a decision he was prepared to settle. On the one hand, some Malkrin might get killed by an unseen swarm if they’re undefended and left with only primitive weapons, but on the other, he would be putting advanced technology in the hands of people who might not yet grasp how dangerous it is. It was ultimately his decision whether the rest of the settlement were forced to rely on a select few for their defense, or if they were given the ability to so themselves. He wanted to have a reason to allow everyone that right, but it was gambling on too much… He’d need time to think about it… probably after he was able to actually procure the materials for more firearms. For now, he’d have to see where Shar was going.
He sighed, giving the paladin a flat stare. “We have one last gun here, Shar. I won’t be arming the entire group with it. Give me a good reason to hand this out to someone specific instead of the craftsman or Akula.”
“The g—rdswoman.”
The engineer’s face turned to that of uncertainty. “The… guardswoman… Really? The yellow, broody one?”
The yellow female was probably the one Malkrin he interacted with the least, besides the ‘juvenile.’ She always looked somewhat spiteful despite never choosing to say anything. He noted her frequently switching from accusatory glares to widened eyes. Honestly, she was the last one he considered, even though her profession and training were technically ideal for using the firearm.
His apprehension turned to curiosity. “…Why?”
“I am not advocat—g for you to hastily give such a powerful w—pon to the newcomer. But, allow me to explain my bias.”
The paladin turned to regard the several Malkrin working to harvest the brown-bark wood down the hill from them. A yellow-colored Female stood tall above them, helping out with the hauling between her short patrols, spear always in hand.
“She is a g—rdswoman from a small island near the Golden City, so she has likely never seen real combat besides separating civil—n scuffles or the occasional ocean beast. That fact would be reasoning for her to not be trusted with your ‘FAL,’ yet I feel that after yesterday’s enc—nter, she has realized the greater importance of her newf—nd position as a guardswoman within the mainland. A mere ten abhorrent were en—gh to crush her resolve, yet that was sufficient to reveal her true conviction: her wish to protect. Furthermore, she is will—g to submit herself to learning once more, despite already having been tr—ned as a guardswoman, and I have alr—dy begun preparing her in earnest.”
The large maroon Malkrin returned her focus to the engineer, crossing her arms over her chest. “Again, do not take my words wholly, d—rest Harrison. I do not ask for you to bless any irrespon—ble fool with your holy creations. I only ask that you obs—ve her dedication for yourself and then finalize your decis—n.”
He scrubbed his face, mulling over the paladin’s words. He didn’t know the guardswoman, and he didn’t exactly trust the guardswoman… but he had a lot of faith in Shar. “Alright. I’ll keep an eye on her for a bit and see how she acts. Maybe talk to her directly. For now, personal defense has been expanded a good bit, so we do have some leeway for splitting up and pursuing some things outside as is. I’ll have you, the guardswoman, and the lumberjack come along for the mining trip later today then. How about that?”
She nodded. “I believe that to be a r—sonable group for an excursion. We shall be well-armed and equipped for the task while leav—g Cera, Akula, and the craftsman to defend our home.”
Home, huh…
His vision returned to the dozen Malkrin working around the modules, a small part of him lightening up at the sight. “We should probably get started on that soon, though. I’ll grab those two and let ‘em have a short break ‘till we set off. Before you get ready, could you bring the mining equipment case up to the front of the workshop? We’ll get situated there.”
“It sh—l be done.”
With that, they parted ways. He cleaned up the range, recycled their extra brass and put the FAL away, then approached the small group of Malkrin at the bottom of the hill. A few were chopping wood directly, while others worked to clear and stack the harvested trees in a simplistic factory line. He smirked at the more efficient effort. The ceramist must have taken some of his advice in organizing the others. Cera spotted him and gave him a small wave, stopping her progress in hacking down a rather thick log, and the others followed suit, each curiously awaiting him. The orange-skinned lumberjack in the group still held her axe in place, ready to start another swing with an expectation of returning to her task immediately.
One of the fisherwoman twins bowed her head toward him, speaking with casual respect, her vaguely Slavic accent showing. “Greetings, Creator. What is it you require?”
He raised a palm. “I need the lumberjack and the guardswoman to accompany me on an excursion.” His eyes settled on the mentioned females. “You’re free to decline, but I’d appreciate your help.”
The orange-colored Malkrin nodded slowly and put away her axe on her back-mounted sheath, making her way toward the engineer. The guardswoman stood still, her gaze flickering between the others and Harrison. Her fists clenched briefly before she fell in line with the other.
“If you require my assistance, I shall not deny it, high Creator,” the yellow-skinned female stated. “When shall we depart?”
The human gestured towards the fireplace. “In a little bit. Rest up a bit beforehand and get something to eat; we might be out for a while. And for the rest of you,” he addressed the group at large. “You’ve done fine work keeping our wood stocked. Finish up clearing this last tree and then talk to Akula about dinner. I think she and the chef are preparing something extra for tonight.”
Cera gave him a thumbs up, just as Tracy taught her. Some responses of ‘of course’ and ‘it shall be done’ followed as the others got to work. The two that were going to be joining the engineer followed him back to the workshop entrance, where Shar was waiting by the array of spikes with a large gray case containing the mining equipment, two sharpened pickaxes preemptively attached to its side.
“Lumberjack,” Harrison addressed the female beside him. “Would you mind taking that case off of Shar?”
Her voice was deep, much more so than the others. She almost growled as she responded tersely in the affirmative. “I do not mind, no.”
“There are straps on it, so you can put it on your back if you want. I wouldn’t recommend it until we set off, though. It’s hefty”
The harvester took the heavy container and held it with minimal difficulty, bowing her head toward Harrison with a dead stare. “Thank you”
Thank you...? Alright then. He was a bit hesitant to let the female take such precious cargo initially, but after recalling how Sharky always had to adjust herself over the weight of her armor, shield, equipment, and now heavy machine gun, he figured she didn’t need anything else packed onto her back. The mining equipment was burdensome too. The apparatus itself was, sure, but the sheer amount of high-density polymer used to protect it was even worse; the machine wasn’t something he wanted to damage in the slightest…
“Don’t mention it.” He waved the Malkrin off. “You three go take a rest by the fire. I’ll finish up some things before we set out.”
The lumberjack and guardswoman offered a few short words of appreciation while Shar did that serious three-armed salute thing across her chest. What got her all worked up? He could have sworn she was just starting to become more casual around him. Maybe it was because it was in front of others? Odd.
He entered the workshop and met up with the ever-busy Tracy. She’d already finished the submersible and was putting some final touches on the cave exploration drone. The excursion would serve as the initial testing of her latest project. Additionally, they discussed the mining operation prior, so the technician was prepared to allocate two reconnaissance flyers to follow him, while she looked out for the Malkrin staying back at camp.
The two of them discussed future plans for a little while, bringing up how to implement small automated processes to make things like drone fabrication or material transfer faster. Tracy wanted to create robotic mules to save the manpower of having to bring back wood, metal, and aquatic resources, and Harrison had to agree. Though, as luck would have it, there weren’t any easy blueprints in the workshop’s library for those. He asked Sebas about it, to which he responded with ‘Automatons can be fabricated and directed by the vehicle bay. Please connect the vehicle bay module to the local network for further specifications.’
It annoyingly made sense. Common fabricators couldn’t print out bigger robots in their entirety. They needed to be assembled by machines much larger in magnitude. So, even if Tracy had the designs, she’d have to weld and assemble the individual pieces together anyway. The reminder of the other ship parts did serve to spark further discussion on future plans, however. The vehicle bay wasn’t too far out—being under a two-day trip—and from what his datapad said, it wasn’t badly damaged either. He wasn’t sure if he’d even try to fly it back, but he could at least download the blueprints and attempt to bring one of the assumed-to-be-still-intact rovers back for transportation.
That was probably going to be a trip for after the blood-moon, though. He needed to focus on the here and now. There was metal to harvest and not a lot of sun left in the day to do it, and the Malkrin were probably well-rested enough after his and Tracy’s thirty-minute conversation.
He put his armor and helmet on, sliding his newly acquired Geiger counter into an open slot on his chest rig. The technician gave him a worried look, almost appearing to ask ‘You’re really going out?’ She never spoke up about it when he waved her goodbye, only returning with her unique fare well.
“Don’t go fucking with any anomalies while you’re out there. I can’t run a colony all by myself, dude.”
He nodded solemnly, understanding exactly what she meant underneath the thin veil of comedy she put over her warning, then dipped out of the workshop with the cave exploration drone in hand. The sun wasn’t setting yet, thankfully; It hung low above the ocean, casting plenty of horizontal shadows within the settlement and forest. Best not to waste the time he had. The engineer approached the fireplace, enjoying its hearty scent alongside the smoked fish the Malkrin were eating. The wood-collecting group had finished their job, taking a well-deserved rest alongside those who were about to set out. Their intent leaked as they conversed about the day’s work, Shar’s weapon, and each other, some of which evidently harbored inside jokes, based on the laughing with that amusing chittering noise they made.
Some part of him felt a little bad for interrupting, but not too bad. He wasn’t going to wait for them to get bored before setting out, so he cleared his throat and approached the group, walking up beside the paladin. They were all sitting on their own seats, but even then, they were still taller than him, somehow making him feel even shorter than when they stood up normally. They quickly noticed his presence and grew quiet, putting their forks and knives down.
“We’re heading out. There’s not much time before sundown, so get ready,” he addressed the Malkrin, three of them standing up and putting on their respective backpacks—the lumberjack with the mining equipment, the guardswoman with Shar’s old spear pack, and the paladin with her shield and M2. Each had their own personal rig by then, their pockets already filled with tools. They were well-equipped, but not exactly well-trained… yet. They’d become accustomed to their instruments soon. Plus, this excursion would be a good opportunity to give them further experience.
The maroon-colored female detached the heavy machine gun from her backpack, holding onto the hand grips with two arms while her other pair slotted an ammo can into place, dropping the cover latch in place and cycling a round into the chamber. She nailed down everything he told her about using the weapon; the way each piece clicked and slid into place was damn satisfying. The firearm really did fit her, especially size-wise. The FAL appeared small in the hands of a female Malkrin, but the massive M2 suited the giant paladin. Add on the fact that she could use it with a shield… He might not even need to participate in the next blood-moon. Somehow, he was able to make a monster into something even more intimidating, and he was proud of his creation.
The other two followed suit, falling in line with Harrison as they set out. They initially had some semblance of a formation with Shar in front and the Guardswoman in the back of a line, but that quickly gave way as the paladin realized she was supposed to be teaching the yellow-colored female.
His protector did just that, explaining stances, something about mindsets, and of course, the spider-crabs and all their terrifying cousins. She took many examples from her various encounters, even regaling some tales of how she survived before Harrison arrived. Then, she went into more detail about some of the most recent attacks, noting how the ‘abhorrent’ acted and reacted, emphasizing Harrison’s defense doctrine. Shar also couldn’t help herself from putting the engineer on a pedestal, bringing up his part in the fighting. That garnered a good few looks from the guardswoman as she stared at his shotgun.
The cave was less than a kilometer out, so the walking conversation didn’t last. They were at its entrance before long, the decaying husks of the colossi curiously missing. Their disappearance caused goosebumps to flicker along his neck, but he quickly pushed the notion away, figuring the millipede things got to them first. There had to be an extensive amount of decomposers in the ecosystem though…
That didn’t matter. There was still plenty of metal to be acquired, and the sun’s rays were already being cut to pieces by the trees. He flicked his helmet light on, pressing the others to do the same with their hand-held—or in Shar’s case, shoulder and gun-mounted—counterparts. The small group pushed into the darkness, short reflections of the minerals inside causing a minute dazzling effect. It was cold inside, which was only exacerbated by a small wind from further inside the tunnel. Weren’t caves meant to be warmer? At least the exercise he was about to get would balance it out, but he hoped the Malkrin wouldn’t be too affected.
He pulled out a UV light and walked up to one of the walls, letting its purple aura shine over the material embedded within. The ore quickly fluoresced with a yellow-orange tint, confirming Sebas’ theory—it was sphalerite. The Malkrin perked up at the sight, all of them wearing fascinated expressions at the glowing luminescence, but they kept themselves from interrupting his tasks.
He set the dog-sized cave exploration drone down on the ground. It had six large and rugged–looking wheels that surrounded a brick-styled battery, and an extended suite of sensors that poked out above it. A few buttons were pressed, and a final switch was activated, setting the small machine on its way down the dark corridor. Task two: completed. He switched his attention to the small gathering of massive females watching over him.
“Lumberjack, could you put the case on the ground?” Harrison quietly ordered.
She did as asked, slipping the receptacle off her back as asked, while the two acting guards realized they weren’t exactly doing their job and took up their positions by the front of the cave. The engineer cautiously looked down at the end of the tunnel before taking a knee by the crate, sliding the additional pickaxes out of the way to focus his flashlight on the side latches. He pulled them open with a little effort, swinging the container open to reveal the two intact machines within. Each of the technical tools were about two-thirds of a meter long, shaped like a plasma rifle with a batch of wires around its side, and connected to their respective battery packs—all pretty standard for mining lasers. He slid the first one out of its slot, latching the charging section to his rig and powering it on. Its dull hum softly reverberated in the cave.
The orange-skinned female stepped back, taking on a cautious tone. “Creator… What is this device of yours?”
He held the item up for the harvester to observe. “It’s a machine that takes a lot of the manual labor out of mining by doing it for you… sorta.”
She leaned in further, taking in the sleek black and gray sheen of the tool. “They were not speaking falsehoods about your creations… I presume we will be harvesting the material around us?”
“Yup.” He took on a graver tone. “That’s why I’m going to need you to listen up.”
The lumberjack froze attentively, staring at him intently.
“I’m going to have you use the other one. But, you must understand, these are able to cut metal and stone, meaning they’re just as capable of cutting your arms clean off if not properly used. First things first.” He pointed toward the focused end of the laser’s ‘barrel.’ “You must never point this end at yourself or anyone else. Second thing. I’m going to show you how to calibrate the machine. Make sure you remember everything I say, because we’re going to return here several times for the metal deposits. Plus, you’ll most likely be teaching someone else how to use it in the future. Got that?”
She nodded, warily staring at the device in his hands.
“Now, lemme give you a quick rundown on how you’ll be using this thing.”
He went through the basics of the laser, showing her how to turn it on, how to check its charge, and the rest of its basic functions. Then, he showed her how to calibrate its refractability by doing so himself, putting its sensor up to several spots of the metal and letting the computer do the work. That part was probably the most important. The beam from the tool was easily reflected due to the basic properties of metal—especially elements like copper or silver—so if the laser wasn’t properly gauged, it was likely to bounce right off into something else. Likely the user.
He wasn’t exactly an expert in the subject. Sure, he knew his basic wave physics, but the rest was beyond him. Thankfully, the device took out much of the difficulty in planning around the refraction issue.
So, the lumberjack and he started the evening off by lopping whole chunks of sphalerite right off the wall. He never even needed to use the pickaxes he brought in case of emergency, meaning they would end up as ripe recycling material. The paladin took the time to teach the guardswoman all the while, frequently tying Harrison into her tutoring while the group stacked ore atop the transportation sleds.
Things were progressing fast as the sun dipped beneath the ground. They briefly shared a meal under the bright glow of their flashlights, talking about some plans and small observations before returning to work. The guards eventually took turns assisting with the process in what ways they could, leaving the other to defend the entrance. In the end, they must have taken over a metric ton of iron, zinc, sulfur, and a slew of trace materials off the walls of the caves by the end of their excursion, painstakingly bringing the entirety of it back on four sleds.
It was well worth it. This singular trip was about to slingshot their settlement right into the heart of automation.

Prodigy and Tragedy: The Shared Fates of Michael Jackson and Wolfgang Mozart; An Essay
Hey Appleheads 🫶 I’ve been working on a comparative essay for my music class and thought well enough of it that I wanted to share it here with everyone, and maybe get some opinions or suggestions on improving it. Please feel free to share your thoughts and ideas! :)
Introduction
What do a child prodigy from 18th-century Austria and a pop icon from 20th-century America have in common? More than you might think. The lives of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Michael Jackson, despite being separated by centuries and cultural contexts, reveal striking parallels that highlight the tragic nature of their prodigious talents and unfulfilled potential. Both men were celebrated for their revolutionary contributions to music, yet they faced significant personal and professional struggles that marred their journeys. This essay explores these parallels, focusing on their early fame, financial struggles, health issues, and the underappreciation of their genius during their lifetimes, while also considering the broader societal implications of their stories.
Prodigious Talents and Early Fame
Mozart and Jackson were prodigies whose extraordinary talents were evident from an early age. Born in 1756, Mozart began composing music at five and performed before European royalty as a child. His father, Leopold Mozart, recognized his son's talent early on and devoted himself to nurturing and promoting Wolfgang's abilities. A letter from Leopold to a friend captures this dedication: "My little Wolfgang and I will go to Vienna, where I will show him to the Emperor and to the nobility, for he is indeed a miracle."
Similarly, Michael Jackson, born in 1958, started performing with his brothers in the Jackson 5 at a young age. Joe Jackson, his father, played a critical role in managing and promoting the group. Under Joe's strict and demanding management, the Jackson 5 achieved enormous success, with young Michael emerging as the standout star. Both fathers were pivotal in shaping their sons' early careers, though their methods were often rigorous and demanding.
The early fame that both Mozart and Jackson experienced came at a cost. The intense schedules and high expectations placed upon them from a young age deprived them of typical childhood experiences. For Mozart, constant touring and performing meant a life perpetually on the move, without the stability or friendships typical of childhood. Jackson's life was similarly dominated by rehearsals, performances, and public appearances, leaving little room for a normal childhood.
Financial Struggles and Mismanagement
Despite their immense talents and significant contributions to music, both Mozart and Jackson encountered financial difficulties. Mozart struggled with financial instability throughout his life. Despite being appointed as a court musician in Vienna, he often found himself in debt. His lifestyle, which included renting expensive apartments and maintaining a high standard of living, did not match his inconsistent income. In a letter to his friend Michael Puchberg, Mozart wrote, "I am at present, thank God, healthy and well; but my finances are in a sad state."
Jackson, despite his enormous commercial success, faced similar financial woes. His extravagant spending habits, including the maintenance of his Neverland Ranch and his collection of expensive items, led to severe financial strain. Additionally, costly legal battles, such as the ones related to allegations of misconduct, exacerbated his financial difficulties. By the time of his death, Jackson was reportedly in significant debt, highlighting a tragic irony that both artists, despite their contributions to music and their public adoration, struggled to maintain financial stability.
Health Issues and Decline
The health of both Mozart and Jackson deteriorated due to the pressures of their careers and lifestyles. Mozart's relentless work schedule and the demands placed upon him by his patrons and his own ambitions took a toll on his health. He died at the young age of 35, with the exact cause of his death remaining a subject of speculation. Some theories suggest rheumatic fever, kidney disease, or even poisoning, reflecting the uncertainty and mystery surrounding his final days.
Jackson's health issues were more public and complex. He suffered from various ailments, including severe insomnia, which led to his dependency on medications. His use of propofol and other drugs, administered by his personal physician, ultimately led to his death at the age of 50. The legal proceedings following his death underscored the tragic circumstances of his final years, marked by isolation and deteriorating health.
Controversial and Mysterious Deaths
The deaths of Mozart and Jackson were surrounded by controversy and mystery, further amplifying the tragedy of their lives. Mozart's death in 1791, while he was working on his Requiem Mass in D minor, left many questions unanswered. His burial in a common grave, according to the customs of the time, added to the sense of a life cut short and not fully honored. Reports of Mozart dictating portions of the Requiem from his deathbed contribute to the mythos surrounding his demise.
Jackson's death in 2009 was equally shrouded in mystery and controversy. The role of his personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, and the circumstances of his medication regimen became focal points of a high-profile trial, leading to Murray's conviction for involuntary manslaughter. Jackson's death, much like Mozart's, was similarly suspicious and subject to much speculation, and left a significant cultural impact and prompted widespread public mourning. The media frenzy and the speculation about his final hours highlighted the public's fascination with his life and death.
Underappreciated Genius and Unrecognized Cultural Influence
Despite their posthumous acclaim, both Mozart and Jackson experienced periods of underappreciation during their lifetimes. Mozart struggled to gain the recognition and respect of his contemporaries and patrons. His innovative compositions, which are now celebrated for their complexity and emotional depth, were often met with indifference or misunderstanding. For example, his opera "The Marriage of Figaro," now considered a masterpiece, initially faced a lukewarm reception and struggled to gain popularity.
Jackson, while immensely popular, faced intense media scrutiny and personal attacks, particularly later in his career. His groundbreaking contributions to music, dance, and popular culture were often overshadowed by tabloid scandals and legal issues. Despite his influence on music videos, dance moves like the moonwalk, and his role in breaking racial barriers on platforms like MTV, Jackson's personal life often took center stage in the public eye.
Cultural Legacy
The cultural legacies of Mozart and Jackson are profound and far-reaching. Mozart's compositions continue to be celebrated and performed worldwide, influencing countless musicians and composers. His works, such as "The Magic Flute" and "Symphony No. 40," are staples in the repertoire of classical music.
Jackson's influence on modern music, dance, and popular culture is equally monumental. His albums "Thriller" and "Bad" set new standards in the music industry, and his music videos, such as "Beat It" and "Billie Jean," transformed the medium into an art form. Jackson's ability to transcend racial barriers and appeal to a global audience paved the way for future generations of artists.
Conclusion
The parallels between the lives of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Michael Jackson highlight a tragic narrative of prodigious talent, personal struggle, and unfulfilled potential. Both men revolutionized their respective musical genres in their own lifetimes, yet faced significant challenges in their personal lives that hindered their ability to fully enjoy their success and receive the recognition they deserved. Their deaths, marked by controversy and mystery, further underscore the complexities of their lives and the broader societal failures to appreciate and support extraordinary talent. Reflecting on their stories, we are reminded of the delicate balance between genius and the human vulnerabilities that accompany it, and the enduring impact of their legacies on the world of music and beyond. Their lives serve as poignant reminders of the importance of recognizing and nurturing talent while addressing the human needs and vulnerabilities of those who possess it.
In recognizing these parallels, we can better appreciate the necessity of supporting artists not just for their output, but as individuals facing immense pressures. By learning from the tragedies of Mozart and Jackson, society can strive to create environments where genius is celebrated and nurtured, free from the pitfalls of exploitation and neglect.

Do you think any of the villains can be redeemable?
Personally I grew up in a very toxic and abusive home, one similar to how the todoroki family was brought up. I find Dabi and Shoto as very relatable characters and shigiraki. There’s a scene in season 6 where shoto says “Touya is me” as he can relate to Dabis burning hatred, but shoto was able to find forgiveness and himself. Shigiraki back story is so emotionally gripping and sad it breaks my heart almost every time because he was failed by his family and society. I keep having this pondering thought if any of the villain characters have a chance at being redeemable (especially shigiraki). On the other hand they still killed hundreds of peoples family members, destroyed homes and have kept the cycle going. Ultimately they have also hurt wonderful people (Aizawa, Eri) and destroyed society as a whole so at this point so they deserve it?
My personal theory is that I think shigiraki could have a change in heart because of deku and will ultimately be the one who kills AFO. Dabi is my favorite character but that guy is bat shit crazy and gone so I’m not sure he’s redeemable at all, but honestly in a sense I’ve been in those shoes and I feel like if I would’ve had a super power I probably would’ve taken that rage out on the world, in our society today there are many that still do. I can’t leave out twice and his death either, even Hawks felt Jean was a good guy at heart just on the wrong side. Spinner I’m sure is also quite a relatable character for most, being cast out by peers and society and those sinking feelings of loneliness.
Do see a possibility at any villains being redeemable?

2024.05.24 18:55 Pokerrr2_Mod Man has a long history of thinking consciousness originates from somewhere within the body. ‘Primitive’ tribes placed it in the heart, others the gut. Descartes moved it to the pineal gland. In modern times, this projection was moved to the brain.

Abstract of the largest study on Near Death Experiences conducted to date:
The results of a four-year international study of 2060 cardiac arrest cases across 15 hospitals concludes the following. The themes relating to the experience of death appear far broader than what has been understood so far, or what has been described as so called near-death experiences. In some cases of cardiac arrest, memories of visual awareness compatible with so called out-of-body experiences may correspond with actual events…
Dr Parnia commenting on a NDE that was validated and timed using auditory stimuli during cardiac arrest.:
This is significant, since it has often been assumed that experiences in relation to death are likely hallucinations or illusions, occurring either before the heart stops or after the heart has been successfully restarted, but not an experience corresponding with ‘real’ events when the heart isn’t beating. In this case, consciousness and awareness appeared to occur during a three-minute period when there was no heartbeat. This is paradoxical, since the brain typically ceases functioning within 20-30 seconds of the heart stopping and doesn’t resume again until the heart has been restarted. Furthermore, the detailed recollections of visual awareness in this case were consistent with verified events.
Perhaps I’ll make a post at some point outlining the mountain of evidence in favor of ‘non-physical’ intelligence etc. (terms are difficult here as what they are or how they operate remains unknown i.e. soul, spirit etc.).
I truly underestimated the blind spots within the existing scientific paradigm. By and large anomalous data that exists to far outside of the existing scientific paradigm is simply ignored.
‘Materialism’ was scientifically invalided over a century ago but more or less continues to exist as the default perspective underlying most working science (but by no mean all).
Experiments employing evolutionary game-theory set out to determine the probability that natural selection would produce humans that perceived objective reality.
The result came back as 0. These finding have since been mathematically verified.
It seems to me immensely unlikely that mind is a mere by-product of matter. For if my mental processes are determined wholly by the motions of atoms in my brain, I have no reason to suppose that my beliefs are true…And hence I have no reason for supposing my brain to be composed of atoms.
The century had arrived that would enthrone matter and Thomas Hobbes was its apologist. In his Leviathan he wrote: 'That which is not body is no part of the universe, and because the universe is all, that which is no part of it is nothing, and consequently nowhere.' Hobbes's proclamation admits no compromise, and it charms people still. Of course Hobbes had not the least idea what matter was - he knew far less of it than theologians thought they knew of angels. His assertion was simply the incantation of a new creed. For over two centuries Hobbes's creed was science's.
Then, shortly after 1900, a revolution was ignited by Planck and Einstein that would banish substance, 'that unintelligible heart of materialism.’ Science had reduced matter to atoms, which at first seemed as substantial as so many little stones. Then atoms were reduced to particles - and nature sprained her surprise. Einstein showed that matter and energy were essentially the same thing, and that the one could be changed into the other - thus the atomic bomb. Although we acknowledged energy in our simple days, it was regarded not as substantial in any sense, but as the motion of substantial particles. Yet if matter can be converted into energy, obviously the notion of substance is almost exhausted. Substance, body, was by definition and our primitive understanding an ultimate that could certainly not be reduced to anything so tenuous as energy, which was after all not a thing, but the property of a thing.
If any feeble life remained to substance, de Broglie delivered its death blow. In 1924, equations showed that a material particle could behave as a wave. That imaginative leap, verified experimentally three years later, won de Broglie the Nobel Prize in 1929. His formulations were further developed into wave mechanics by Schrodinger, Dirac, Heisenberg, and others. But when particles revealed their wave nature the game was over and substance was exposed as an illusion having no more fundamental tangibility than Ruth's spectral form.
The external world of physics has thus become a world of shadows, 'Sir Arthur Eddington said, 'In removing our illusions we have removed substance, for indeed we have seen that substance is one of the greatest of our illusions.
. . 'Some may feel they were robbed of the idea of substance by a sleight; that although matter waves are impalpable, they are nevertheless in some sense objective physical entities that still suggest something of substance, however ghostly.’ There was no sleight. Atomic particles are waves in a multidimensional space having nothing to do with the space we perceive. These waves are described as waves of probability with no material existence whatsoever. Schrodinger wrote that they are “completely immaterial waves; as immaterial as waves of nationalism, depression, or "streaking'" that sweep over a country.' And Planck simply called them waves of knowledge.
After considering the evidence, von Neumann, one of the greatest of modern mathematicians, concluded that the concept of objective reality had evaporated. That leaves only subjective reality, or something beyond description. When the physical view of the universe became completely non-material with modern physics, it encountered something that has always been considered the quintessence of immateriality: consciousness, mind. Perhaps we should have expected such a denouement when we found the physical world was built of incorporeal waves of knowledge or probability. A wave of knowledge, after all, requires a knower. Karl Marbe, a mathematician and philosopher, discovered many years ago that probability arose from the mind. Now what had been the purview of philosophers became a vital issue for physicists as well. 'It may be useful to give the reason for the increased interest of the contemporary physicist in problems of [philosophy],' wrote Eugene Wigner, Nobel laureate. 'The Reason is in a nutshell, that physicists have found it impossible to give a satisfactory description of atomic phenomena without reference to consciousness.'
That is not some semantic twaddle that a positivist can reduce to gibberish. Wigner was stating a fact of physics. 'It is not a long step,' said Einstein, 'from thinking of matter as an electron ghost to thinking of it as the objectified image of thought.' Sir James Jeans agreed: 'The concepts which now prove to be fundamental to our understanding of nature ...seem to my mind to be structures of pure thought, incapable of realization in any sense which would be described as material. Elsewhere Jeans concluded that in brief, idealism has always maintained that as the beginning of the road by which we explore nature is mental, the chances are that the end also will be mental.
To this present-day science adds that, at the farthest point she has so far reached, much, and possibly all, that wasn't material has disappeared, and nothing new has come in that is not mental. Eddington, in a now famous passage, stated it even more badly. Realizing that the physical world is entirely abstract and without actuality apart from its linkage to consciousness, we restore consciousness to the fundamental position instead of representing it as an inessential complication … ‘To put the conclusion crudely - the stuff of the world is mind stuff’...
The mind-stuff is not spread in space and time; these are part of the cyclic scheme ultimately derived out of it. In recent years Wigner observed that 'it will remain remarkable, in whatever way our future concepts may develop, that the very study of the external world led to the conclusion that the content of consciousness is an ultimate reality.' Von Weizsacker phrased it more poetically: 'Man tries to penetrate the factual truth of nature, but in her last unfathomable riches suddenly, as in a mirror, he meets himself.' St. Frances anticipated him: 'What we are looking for is what is looking.’ …Nineteenth-century surgeons often bragged that they had never discovered a soul in all the bodies they dissected. Twentieth-century physicists, in dissecting the universe, however, have failed to find a body.
-J. Finley Hurley
…Looking back to the different sets of concepts that have been formed in the past or may possibly be formed in the future in the attempt to find our way through the world by means of science, we see that they appear to be ordered by the increasing part played by the subjective element in the set. Classical physics can be considered as that idealization in which we speak about the world as entirely separated from ourselves.
…Quantum theory does not allow a completely objective description of nature.
…When we represent a group of connections by a closed and coherent set of concepts, axioms, definitions and laws which in turn is represented by a mathematical scheme we have in fact isolated and idealized this group of connections with the purpose of clarification. But even if complete clarity has been achieved in this way, it is not known how accurately the set of concepts describes reality…
…the physicists have gradually become accustomed to considering the electronic orbits, etc., not as reality but rather as a kind of `potentia.'...it is a language that produces pictures in our mind, but together with them the notion that the pictures have only a vague connection with reality, that they represent only a tendency toward reality…
…the scientific concepts are idealizations; they are derived from experience obtained by refined experimental tools, and are precisely defined through axioms and definitions. Only through these precise definitions is it possible to connect the concepts with a mathematical scheme and to derive mathematically the infinite variety of possible phenomena in this field. But through this process of idealization and precise definition the immediate connection with reality is lost…
…It may be useful in this connection to remember that even in the most precise part of science, in mathematics, we cannot avoid using concepts that involve contradictions…
The skepticism against precise scientific concepts does not mean that there should be a definite limitation for the application of rational thinking. On the contrary, one may say that the human ability to understand may be in a certain sense unlimited. But the existing scientific concepts cover always only a very limited part of reality, and the other part that has not yet been understood is infinite. Whenever we proceed from the known into the unknown we may hope to understand, but we may have to learn at the same time a new meaning of the word `understanding.'
-Heisenberg, Physics and Philosophy
To understand a thing is a bridge and possibility of returning to the path. But to explain a matter is arbitrary and sometimes even murder.
Have you counted the murderers among the scholars?
...What you speak is, the intoxication is, the undignified, sick paltry dailiness is. It runs in all the streets, lives in all the houses, and rules the day of all humanity. Even the eternal stars are commonplace. It is the great mistress and the one essence of God. One laughs about it, and laughter, too, is. Do you believe, man of this time, that laughter is lower than worship? Where is your measure, false measurer?’ (The Red Book)
Have you ever noticed that every wikipedia article on any controversial topic always stresses the negative or null hypothesis without detailing supporting evidence?
An organized group of materialists–’guerrilla skeptics’--has maintained an ongoing information operation that actively edits all wikipedia pages in accordance with their conception of reality.

2024.05.24 05:34 ActLonely9375 X-Men '97 - Emma Frost Theory

Theory for the end of next season season season: Do you think Emma Frost and Cyclops could start a relationship? In the comics this couple has come to be formalized, so it would not be strange that it could happen but, what would happen to Jean Grey? Next season we'll see her with Ciclops being able to raise Cable in the future, but for the sake of the timeline (and the plot), they'll probably have to leave all that behind and go back to their time. All that situation could be too much for a couple that already this season had their problems, so they could break up definitively, thus opening the possibility of making way for other couples. X-men 97 has been characterized by giving us more mature situations than the original series, so I don't think they give up romantic plots or love triangles but why Emma Frost and Cyclops? Apart from the comics, this season we have already seen how Emma Frost noticed Cyclops by discovering him telepathically "gunning" Jean Grey with Madelyne Pryor, and also how she helped in her rescue after the destruction of Genosha. With the present era without X-Men, Forja could create a new team including her, a team that would join the original by returning them to the present, bringing together new characters and opening up new storylines for the third season of X-Men 97.
But in the end it's just a theory, what do you think? Would you like to see this darling in the comics on the show? How would the other members of the team react? What other couples would you like to see?

2024.05.23 20:07 Ok_Adhesiveness_6965 I AM NOT SCARED OF HYBE, IM SCARED OF ITS STUPIDITY. An Investigation Report.

I AM NOT SCARED OF HYBE, IM SCARED OF ITS STUPIDITY. An Investigation Report.
Theory: Hybe is going to make Belift break Iroha's leg, just for concept direction
  1. Brief Overview:
NewJeans' maknae, Hyein Lee, aged 16, is currently on rest due to a leg injury. Considering HYBE's obsession with the "formula of copying," there's speculation about whether HYBE would intentionally cause harm, such as breaking Iroha's leg, to stay loyal to their strategy of imitating NewJeans' concept.
  1. Literature Review:
Some local folks from ancient river of Egypt theorized that ILt might be a little influenced by Lesfim. They looked at stars for clues and saw a picture. They reckon ILt's short training and mediocre stage performance are on purpose, all as part of their plan to copy Less-rafim concept.

  1. Observation:
An alignment of the Northern Star and Neptune was observed in the right hemisphere of the sky, viewed from a specific angle measurement of 500 degrees. Intriguingly, at 3 AM this morning, a UFO was sighted after a hailstorm struck Mexican and Brazil. The location of the observation is approximately at 0 degrees, 59 minutes, and 36.348 seconds latitude when expressed in standard format.

ILlt (ILL Little Kids) is characterized as a group within HYBE that is dubbed as the "Meta magnet group."
Magnet Collins, 11-B433
  1. Definition:
  2. Meta Magnet Group: ILlt is referred to as the "Meta magnet group," suggesting that they have a unique ability to attract successful concepts and elements from other successful groups.
Hybrid Magnet
  1. Pros:
    • influence of individuals like Bang P I G with unlimited payola, and favoritism. Brain rot zombie-like fan following
  • receives significant benefits from HYBE, indicating a close relationship with the company and potentially preferential treatment. (eg. Payola, media promo, favoritism..)
  1. Cons:
    • As theory, when ILlt aims to attract successful elements from other groups, they will also attract negative traits or controversies associated with those groups.
    • Struggles to give quality performance, including difficulties with dance routines, vocals that dont hit note and backing tracks playing loudly
  • Sensitivity to NewJeans: ILlt is highly attracted toward NewJeans, meaning they highly depend upon NewJeans for their rich concepts and success in the industry.
  1. Behavior: latitude 0.99343,623 and longitude -0.3-234114.42

  1. Vulnerabilities: Unintentional Attraction of Negative Traits: While ILlt's strategy of copying successful elements from other groups may sometimes yield positive results, it also exposes them to the risk of unintentionally copying negative traits, such as controversies and poor stage performances, transfered from groups like Les-rafim.

Findings: NewJeans debuted with the CHANEL campaign.
NewJeans at chanle event, 1972, Oklahama.
CHANEL came to Ador because they were curious about NewJeans. The NewJeans’ advertisers had good relationships with them. NewJeans at CHANEL event was just happened to be.
6.1.2 Explanation: This wasn't Ador’s original plan; the CHANEL show was booked before a music event. Ador saw it as a special opportunity for their debut and decided to seize it, considering the prestige of the brand and the chance for a memorable debut. Similarly, ILIT attended the Acne event for similar reasons. However, the debut at the Chenle event was somewhat accidental due to ongoing tensions between HYBE and Ador. It was more of an improvised pan than intentional planning.

6.2.1 Findings:
  1. It wasn't a trend when ADOR conducted their concept filming at the old palace during the holiday season. However, after NewJeans did it twice, they were highly praised photos for their photos. On early september ILIT sneaked in the same location and replicated the entire photoshoot.
6.2.2 Explanation:
Forensic analysts examined the evidence with high end neo-tech and discovered minimal differences, indicating clear imitation. ILIT not only mimicked the location's aesthetic but also replicated the lighting, camera angles, and made extensive photoshop edits to match the exposure details and copy NewJeans style.
  1. Conclusion:
ILlt's dubbed as the "Meta magnet group" who has ability to attract successful concepts from other groups. However, this strategy may come with challenges and potential controversies, including struggles with performance quality and the risk of attracting negative traits from other groups.
This has presented The 3 great thinkers like Lee Soo Man.. with ironic and philosophical questions about authentic artistic identity, credibility in K-pop as a genuinely innovative genre, and the importance of creative direction.
The 3 great thinkers

HYBE, as usual out of touch with reality, has a history of replicating even mistakes and accidents, such as ILIT's copying issues with Leserafim's vocals and stage performance, as well as NewJeans' debut plan.
Therefore, based on observed patterns of behavior and their tendency to stick with "formula of copying," it's likely that they may attempt to replicate more mistakes without considering the ethical implications.
"I guess It can be argued that Ador will keep making mistakes and belift will copy it thinking it as a concept."

2024.05.23 08:46 kirk_2019 What story do you think Fifteen Fifty-Three, May Ninth, and Ada Jean tell?

I love all of A La Sala but have been fixating on Fifteen Fifty-Three -> May Ninth -> Ada Jean. I feel like the three songs tell a story of sorts, and I’m interested in what people think that story is.
I have heard theories about May 9th being Leezy’s due date and its song referencing “waiting for the rain” (aka her baby) with Ada Jean (potentially the name of the baby?) telling the trials and triumphs of giving birth with Leezy’s crying in the backtrack.
Any other ideas for this beautiful triad of songs?
