Hi everyone. This is super long, and I apologize in advance.
I first want to acknowledge that I understand cheating as a no go, inexcusable, and completely disrespects anyone's boundaries and trust. It is so painful, and has happened to me in previous relationships. Before, I would stay, be the doormat, only for it to happen again. This was in the high school years when we were all just trying to navigate... everything. But now it's happened to me again as adults during a 3 year long relationship.
A couple of months ago, my partner admitted to cheating on me a year ago when being wasted / blacked out. He was at a party and ran into some random person from HS. Alcohol is no excuse, but for him he has an overall problem with drinking rather than it just being isolated. It was a problem in our relationship for a while. The lying was ridiculous, childish, and unacceptable. It's total Jekyll and Hyde. After he cheated, he drank himself to death over it in silence. He blocked her and never spoke to her again. He barely spoke to me. We didn't have very positive experiences together and we stopped doing as much. His guilt couldn't bring him to tell me. He says it happened during a period where we were not intimate and he was craving, but that it happened for a couple of minutes before he stopped it, knowing it was a choice HE made (a terrible one), regardless of what happened leading up to it.
The moment I found out, I left and stayed with my parent for a month or so (it would've been longer had my parent's living situation didn't change so drastically). I wanted to regain my power, sense of identity, and give myself the space to heal while giving him the time to really sit with what he did.
He is profusely apologetic, going to AA, therapy, and getting back on medications. I've seen this man lie enough about drinking to know when he is being truthful and when he isn't. He says he was childish in handling things, has never made an excuse for what he did, and fully acknowledges the work that has to be done to regain my trust. When he says he won't do it again, I do believe him: not in blissful ignorance, but as someone who recognizes that the rest of our relationship, and who he is as a person, is worth working through this terrible situation. He has fully owned up, saying he needs to grow up, man up, and be responsible for his actions. He told the people he respects the most in his life exactly what he did. He says he can't even believe that the choice to cheat even became an option.
We have worked on developing better habits for ourselves and our relationship; going on walks, going to therapy both on our own and as a couple, reading instead of melting behind our screens and playing games... we are just learning how to be best friends again, and shockingly it's been easier than I expected.
I am not compromising my boundaries. I am not letting him disrespect my comfort, my feelings, or my time. I am also going to therapy to learn how to cope with this. I fully acknowledge that I do not need to forgive him, not until / if I am ready.
Things have been going well. A podcast by Mel Robbins helped me tremendously in processing this as well as what to do with moving forward (look it up on spotify, it brought me so much comfort). However, I am allowing myself the space and understanding that if I do not see the improvement, I have the means to leave completely.
I guess my reason for this post is because it can be very easy to get caught up in the "once a cheater, always a cheater" mindset. I'm not saying it doesn't exist; there are absolutely serial cheaters with no moral compass and try to put the blame on their partners. I've been on the receiving end of that absolutely heinous thinking. It's important to acknowledge the intricate nature of relationships, life, navigating mistakes, but also not to give up parts of yourself in the process. Not everything is worth working through, but also do not feel guilty for wanting to work on things. If it's worth it to you, it's okay. However, do not compromise your worth and what you deserve through it.
Be kind to yourself. Know your worth. Put yourself first. If you want to work on things, if it makes sense for you and your partner to do so, there's no shame in that.
However, don't be a fool twice. Give yourself the space and ability to leave if you need to. Do not let the pretty painted picture in your head be the only reason for staying. And just know that you did not deserve this; it is all about how broken, messed up, and irrational your partner's thinking was during that time. And if it's still shit, kick 'em to the curb.

I know this is unnecessarily long, so if you are not in the mood for reading, I understand. But I would greatly appreciate anyone who would take the time to read my story that is probably TMI and badly in need of some editing. I just really need some advice from people whose heads are less cloudy than mine.
My fiancé M/42 and I F41 have been together for about 4 years and have known each other since high school. I knew he was a recovering addict when I got together with him but I fell head over heels in love and didn’t see the relapse on the horizon that would occur shortly after the honeymoon phase and would eventually almost kill me - I took a swipe of some mystery powder and touched it to my tongue (fentanyl) thinking it would help me get through the most stressful day of my life as i was ceaning out his place while I was packing him up for detox. It was a total freak accident, I’m not an addict, never done anything like that in my life, I’m a single mom and a kindergarten teacher, but I loved him so much I just followed him down the rabbit hole and honestly just became so disoriented in this world I (naively) didn’t understand or even realize I had signed up for.
Anyway, He literally saved my life, and said I also saved his, because that day is what motivated him to get and stay clean for good despite being an active heroin addict for the majority of his life.
He worked an incredibly thorough program, and he gained more friends, money, and more overall success in 2 years than I’ve been able to scrounge up in an entire lifetime. And it’s no surprise honestly. He’s a special person. Absolutely brilliant, charismatic, driven, and has a heart of gold.
Within a year of getting sober, he moved me and my daughters into a gorgeous home adjacent to a golf course, bought luxury vehicles for both me and him, convinced me to quit my teaching job which was making me miserable, so I could finally be fully present for my girls, and then put a giant diamond ring on my left hand. He completely spoils us. We went from having nothing to having every tangible thing, we could possibly need.
The stability that he provided for us meant the world to a single mom who was barely making ends meet, but it was always just the icing on the cake for me. He’s my best friend in the world, he makes me laugh so hard my mouth hurts from smiling, he show me that he loves even the parts of myself that I don’t find lovable. I found my soulmate.
His program started slipping after 2 1/2 years (last November). He was already struggling in his role of being a stepfather, and we were fighting a lot about parenting stuff. He has a lot to learn, has little patience, and seems to have very unrealistic expectations of my kids. He wanted Parenting to be this effortless thing, and he just doesn’t get that it’s not. And that kids are not always going to behave themselves and that doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with them. so we were fighting a lot.
In December, he started complaining about his chronic back pain again (a real issue for him as he’s had five back surgeries due to a snowboarding accident in his early 20s-this was during that height of Purdue Pharma and what got him hooked on pain meds)
While I know he was legitimately in pain, it was also a red flag because pain was the culprit for his last relapse. He decided to go in for a sixth surgery and was told he would have to wait three months. He found a surgeon who has made a lot of profit off of him over the years (as he’s a PI attorney) and was willing to prescribe him generous amounts of pain pills to get him through the three months of increasing pain that he was experiencing. He spent the next three months in bed, depressed, checking out, taking pills depressed, checking out- as I became increasingly suspicious that his behavior was much too loopy for the amount of medication he was being prescribed. I fell into the role of his nurse, and his babysitter. Making sure he didn’t text to nonsense to clients, making sure he didn’t fall and make his back worse, making sure he wasn’t interacting with the kids, etc
I knew he wasn’t being honest with me, but he just kept gaslighting me. It honestly felt like he was psychologically tormenting me, treating me as though I was totally paranoid, heartless and out of line. I thought after the surgery, it would finally get better. I made a promise that I would be there for him because he had never had anyone there for him for the previous surgeries and it had been a really traumatic experience for him in the past. I really stepped up and tried so hard to his rock. The hospital experience was horrific, mainly because no amount of diloted was relieving him of the pain. None of the nurses understood why he needed so much more than everyone else, but I think his tolerance had just become so high.
After that nightmare was finally over I was really counting on things getting better, as the plan was for him to taper off the meds, live pain-free, and get back to normal. It didn’t go that way. It just kept getting worse and no matter how many times I told him that I didn’t trust him he just had an excuse for an explanation for everything. He is a master manipulator and I listened to him do it to everyone, doctors, the pharmacist he formed a “friendship” with, literally everyone.
On Mother’s Day, it got to a point where he couldn’t hide it anymore. He disappeared for the day, Ended up, passing out at a gas station and was unreachable for hours, when he finally came home, the car was all fucked up and he claims it was someone else’s fault. He went straight to his home office and I didn’t see the rest of the night until I walked in on him smoking crushed up pills. After that, he confessed everything to me, including the time that he told me not to check the mail because he had a special surprise for me to thank me for all the love and support I gave him To help him through his surgery. it turned out he had drug dealers sending him drugs in the mail. Needless to say there was no surprise for me me. Just heartbreak and betrayal. I felt like a fool.
I was still processing this the next day when , after insisting on taking a photo of me in these designer sunglasses he purchased for me out of guilt. I asked him not to take my photo, because I had tears in my eyes, but he insisted. He was napping next to me and I opened his phone to erase the photo. we’ve always had each other’s passwords, and have looked through each others photos before for various reasons, sharing photos, etc. I cannot emphasize enough how much I trust his loyalty to me when it comes to anything other than drugs.
But for some reason, all of my photos, the ones I was taking on my phone were showing up in his feed. I was so confused, so I started scrolling through deleting unflattering double chin pictures of myself when I came across that menu photos organized based on face recognition. One of them was his ex. I remember him telling me he deleted all of his photos of her the first time he told me he loved me.
I opened it and scrolled through hundreds of pictures of their happy life together. The pictures got more and more sexual, one of her with her legs spread, another another of them in the bathtub together, her kissing him while he had his hands around her neck, another screenshot of her naked in the shower with a thumbnail shot of him in the corner obviously jerking off to her on FaceTime. Because I’m a masochist I decided to take it one step further and look in his video folder. I found a There I found a thumbnail shot if a close-up of him penetrating her. I watched it and it just completely crushed whatever was left of me.
I’m normally a really passive person, and I just completely lost my mind. I reacted as though I had caught him cheating on me. I just couldn’t handle the physical evidence of such a close up shot of him being inside another woman. It’s stupid because I know, like me, he has a past. Obviously he’s been with other women. Obviously he’s been attracted to them. But it just scarred my brain, I literally haven’t even been able to eat since because I’ve been so nauseous. I know it’s ridiculous, because this is a reality I was well aware existed, but seeing it with my own eyes… I don’t know what to say. Other than that I need a lobotomy.
He says he erased all of those videos and photos from his phone, and something weird happened where all of his photos from the cloud just re-uploaded when he got a new phone. He’s not a technical person and I actually believe him because, aside from being a complete liar when it comes to drugs, he has always show me the upmost, integrity, love and loyalty. So it’s not that I don’t believe him. I just can’t get that image out of my head.
I can’t tell if this intense emotional reaction I’m having would be the same reaction anyone would have if they saw what I saw, or if I’m combining the feelings of betrayal over the gaslighting and the relapse…, the last four months of feeling completely invisible, hopeless, and like he was choosing drugs over me. My mind is like mush and I seriously can’t differentiate between these two very separate issues. I’m so confused, but that’s what gaslighting does to you. It makes you question your reality.
He said that he’s finally willing to go into detox, so at this point, I have waited this long, it would be silly not to stick around and see if he’s finally going to put an end to this. What’s getting me is that he’s still making excuses, still not seeming very remorseful, and is still so deep in self-pity that he doesn’t seem to have any awareness of how badly I’m hurting because of him. It feels like he just doesn’t care. anyone who’s ever loved an addict knows that feeling well.
I’m in Al-anon, and I’m well aware of all of the things I should be doing, focusing on myself, etc. but I’m just not doing well, and I can’t seem to find my way out of this dark hole. Anyone who has made it this far deserves some sort of a Reddit badge of honor. This was more of an autobiography than a simple question. I just wanna hear some outside input because I don’t trust my own mind right now. I’m willing to take your criticism, just please be kind. I know I’ve made mistakes, I’m just hurting so badly. I can’t seem to sort through this. Thank you so much if you took the time to read all of this and still want to respond. You have no idea how much it means to me.

I used to have periods to where I could take a Tylenol and go on with my day like normal but ever since my lupus diagnosis in 2021 it’s just been getting worse and worse every month. I know lupus causes hormonal changes during that time but I didn’t think it would make it this bad. I’ve gone through so many things because of lupus like nephritis, pleural effusion, heart problems and the typical joint pain, etc, without strong pain medications but this is just insane. The only pain medicine that has actually helped me during my menstrual cycle has been morphine during a hospital stay, and well that’s not really an easy thing to get prescribed for just a period and it’s not a good thing to continuously take.
The on and off fevers for two days, the nausea, stomach cramps, my legs have so much pain, I turn blue, my whole body shakes randomly uncontrollably like shivers when you’re cold, but I’m not cold. I’ve never felt so horrible in my life. I’ve brought it up to my rheumatologist and my primary care doctor and everytime it’s just blown over like nothing. I’ve also been given a few prescriptions for menstrual pain and they never helped so I’m at a loss, I’ve tried heating pads, warm baths, those soothing oils, etc and still nothing. Everytime it happens I feel like I need to go to the hospital but wait times are 9+ hours so I stay home to deal with it, I have no idea if this is just lupus causing this or something else on top of it but it’s driving me crazy to the point where (this is gonna sound super crazy) ever since I turned 18 I have asked multiple times to have a hysterectomy because I feel like at this point it’s my only option to get rid of the pain and it triggering my lupus, but of course I know they say “wait until you’re older” “it’s not that serious” when to me it is that serious and I’m unsure of what else I could do for it. I always just thought lupus caused a slight elevation in the amount of pain from a period but I definitely thought wrong about that.
Does anyone have anything that’s helped them during this time? I’m willing to try anything at this point.

Chapter 1: The farm
Hagr stood at the edge of the farm, his gaze fixed on the vast expanse of Zandarius stretching out before him. The sky above was a canvas of swirling purples and blues, streaked with the faint glow of distant stars. A cool breeze whispered through the air, carrying with it the enticing scent of Heyla flowers.
With a sigh, Hagr set down his mechanic wheelbarrow, the last of his chores for the day completed. He began to make his way back towards the farm, his footsteps crunching softly against the rocky terrain. As he passed through the pink and green garden, the aroma of his mother's porridge drifted towards him, tempting his hunger.
Despite eating the same meal every day, Hagr's stomach grumbled with anticipation. The suuka porridge was all he needed right now, its warm, comforting embrace promising to chase away the chill of the evening.
Arriving at the farm, Hagr took in the familiar sight of their plascrete igloo. Half of the structure was comprised of little octagon windows, through which the warm glow of a fire emanated from the chimney. It was home, humble yet comforting in its simplicity.
Entering the igloo, Hagr found his mother, Altha, bustling about the kitchen, preparing dinner. "Hagr, dear, could you set the table?" she called out, her voice gentle yet firm. Hagr nodded, a small smile playing at his lips as he arranged the mismatched dishes in their usual places. Each plate was different, yet they always ended up in the same spot, a testament to the routines of their daily life.
Once the table was set, Hagr ignited the moonlamp, casting a soft yellow glow across the igloo walls. Altha emerged from the kitchen, carrying a steaming pot of suuka porridge. "Careful, Hagr," she warned, as she placed the pot on the table. "It's hot." Hagr nodded as he heard this many times before, his mouth watering at the sight and smell of the hearty meal before him. They ate in silence, the only sound the clinking of spoons against bowls as they savored each mouthful.
After a moment, Hagr broke the silence, his voice tinged with curiosity. "Do you ever wonder what's beyond Zandarius, Mumu?" he asked. Altha hesitated, her expression guarded. "I don't know, Hagr," she replied softly. "But we have everything we need right here on the farm." Though disappointed by her response, Hagr nodded in understanding. Perhaps someday they would have the chance to explore together. Altha caught his eye and winked, a small glimmer of hope in her gaze.
As they finished their meal, Hagr and Altha moved to the small kitchen area to wash the dishes. The kitchen was cluttered yet cozy, with shelves overflowing with pots, pans, and utensils. Beyond the kitchen, the interior of the igloo was a snug retreat from the harshness of the outside world. A small cupboard, crafted from Zandarius rare Bennam wood, stood in one corner, its doors closed tight to conceal its overflowing contents. Nearby, a plush couch with pillows offered a comfortable spot to relax after a long day's work. Opposite the couch, a large hammock hung from the ceiling. Above it, a smaller hammock swayed gently in the breeze, providing a cozy nest for Hagr during the night. Every inch of space was utilized to its fullest, creating a sense of warmth and intimacy within the cramped confines of the igloo.
As the hour grew late, Altha reminded Hagr of their upcoming journey to Kihar. With a yawn, Hagr climbed into his hammock, gazing up at the stars through the little octagon windows above. "Goodnight, Hagr," Altha whispered, her voice soft in the quiet of the night. "Goodnight, Mumu," Hagr replied, his eyes closing as sleep overtook him. And with that, he drifted off, thoughts of tomorrow's journey fading into the comforting embrace of dreams.
Chapter 2: The trip
Hagr awoke to the gentle light filtering through the little octagon windows of their igloo. Rubbing the sleep from his eyes, he glanced around and noticed that his mother's hammock was empty. Mu-mu?" he called out, but there was no response.
Curiosity piqued, Hagr peered outside and spotted his mother tending to the kikkamoos, their pig-like creatures with reptilian legs and Fluffy tails. With a swift motion, he leaped out of bed, his movements practiced from years of experience. After quickly dressing himself, he hurried outside, calling out to his mother. "Altha!" he yelled, using her full name in his urgency. His mother turned towards him with a warm smile. "Haggie!" she called back, using his pet name.
Hagr wasted no time and dashed off to fetch Tsjoopa, their trusty mechanical unicycle cart already loaded with goods for trade. As he returned with the cart, he found his mother waiting back at the farm. "Ready to go, Hagr?" she asked, her eyes sparkling with anticipation. "Absolutely!" Hagr exclaimed, brimming with energy. And so, they set off on their journey to Kihar, the nearest town for trading.
The road ahead seemed endless, traversing through vast and barren plains broken only by occasional patches of vegetation. Sparse woods flanked the roadside, offering concealment but little wildlife, a testament to Zandarius' unforgiving environment.
After a few hours of travel, they finally reached a landmark known as the Sharp Knives, a crossroad marked by sharp rocks jutting out of the ground. "We’re here, the Sharp Knives," Altha remarked, her gaze sweeping over the rugged terrain. "We're halfway there, Hagr." Hagr nodded, his eyes scanning the horizon. "Already? Time flies when you're in good company." A mischievous glint sparkled in Altha's eyes as she reached into the cart. "Speaking of good company, I brought something special for our halfway mark." Hagr's interest was piqued. "What is it?" With a dramatic flourish, Altha revealed a small container of sosuuka, a sweeter version of yesterday's porridge. "Sosuuka!" Hagr exclaimed, trying to sound enthusiastic despite his familiarity with the dish. Altha chuckled at his feigned excitement. "I thought it might be a nice treat for our journey." Hagr grinned, playing along. "Absolutely! Thanks, best mumu on Zandarius." Lost in thought, Altha gazed into the distance, her attention drawn to the gathering ominous clouds on the horizon, a harbinger of stormy weather to come. "We might have some rough weather ahead," Altha remarked, her voice tinged with concern. Hagr glanced up at the darkening sky. "Should we stop and wait it out?" Altha shook her head. "We need to keep moving. We can't afford to delay our journey." Guess we'll have to save the view for another time," Hagr sighed, reluctantly agreeing with Altha's decision, while she nodded in understanding. "But, after all," Hagr declared, puffing out his chest with a hint of pride, "at ten years old, I'm practically a grown man! I can handle anything, even eating sosuuka on the way without spilling a drop." Altha burst into laughter at his boast. "Sosuuka without spilling? I'd sooner believe kikkamoos could fly!" Hagr joined in her laughter, the sound echoing across the desolate landscape as they continued on their journey to Kihar.
Chapter 3: Arrival in Kihar
As Hagr and Altha approached Kihar, the plascrete town sprawled out before them, its streets winding like intricate mazes through the heart of the city. In stark contrast to the barren landscape of Zandarius, Kihar was a vibrant tapestry of life, with lush vegetation adorning every corner. Hagr’s eyes roamed over the cityscape, taking in the sight of the bustling alleys and the constant mist of smoke that hung in the air. Despite having visited many times before, he couldn’t help but feel a sense of awe at the bustling energy of the tradetown.
As they ventured deeper into the heart of the city, the tantalizing aroma of food mingled with the sounds of chatter and laughter, tempting Hagr's senses and reminding him of the porridge-filled days back on their farm. Finally, they reached the local market, a bustling hub of activity where traders hawked their wares amidst the thick scent of spices and exotic foods. "First stop, Old Taramor's," Altha announced, her voice carrying above the din of the market. Hagr's thoughts drifted to Taramor, the old, grumpy trader who had been a fixture in Kihar for as long as he could remember. Despite his rough exterior, Taramor was one of the few honest traders left in the city, and Hagr had always respected him for it. "Sounds good to me," Hagr replied, his tone positive.
As they approached Old Taramor’s, Altha hopped off the Tsjoopa and turned to Hagr. "Hagr, could you fetch a crate of Heyla bottles from the back of the cart?" she asked. Hagr nodded silently, already moving to comply.
Entering the shop, they found Taramor snoozing behind his counter, the cluttered shelves and dusty displays a testament to his lack of care for his surroundings. Altha hesitated, reluctant to disturb the old trader, but time was of the essence. "Taramor," she whispered, her voice barely audible. No response. Again a bit louder this time “Taramor”. Still no response. Growing impatient, Hagr couldn't help but raise his voice. "Taramor!" Startled awake, Taramor shot upright, his eyes wide with surprise. "What the hell's going on?" he grumbled, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. "Oh, it's just you two," he muttered, recognizing Altha and Hagr. Altha gestured to Hagr to take a look around while she spoke with Taramor. Hagr nodded and wandered through the cluttered shelves, his curiosity piqued by the assortment of strange and exotic items on display. In the background, a television played the news, the volume turned low but still audible. A news reporter's voice cut through the air, reporting on the recent assassination of a high-ranking official. The military had already neutralized one suspect, but two others were still at large. The camera footage showed two figures cloaked in dark red and black, their faces obscured. Zooming in on one of the suspects, the reporter noted a tattoo of a three-headed monster on their neck, linking them to the notorious syndicate known as the Three-Headed Beast. "People are urged to remain vigilant," the reporter concluded, "and to report any sightings of the suspects to the authorities." "Hagr," Altha called out, pulling him from his thoughts. Quickly, he set down a strange-looking coffee maker he had been inspecting and hurried over to join them.
Outside, Hagr turned to his mother, concern etched on his face. "How did the trade go?" Altha hesitated before answering, her tone guarded. "It wasn't as successful as we had hoped, but we'll manage." Trying to sound confident, Hagr responded, "No need to worry, Mumu. We'll make it work."
As they made their way back through the bustling market, Hagr glanced at his mother. " Can we get some Uja skewers now?" Altha smiled warmly. "Absolutely, Hagr. Let’s grab some delicious Uja," she said, turning on their trusty, albeit rusty, Tsjoopa.
Chapter 4: Best place is home
As Altha and Hagr made their way home in the fading light, a bird soared above them, its silhouette dark against the dusky sky. They were nearing their farmstead, the exhausting trip almost at an end. Hagr turned to Altha, his curiosity piqued. “What is coffee?” he asked, stumbling over the unfamiliar word. Altha pondered for a moment before responding, “I’ve heard of it. It’s some sort of black drink. Similar to Puggatree juice, they say, it gives you energy.” Hagr wrinkled his nose in distaste. He had never been fond of Puggatree juice, finding its thick texture and slimy consistency unappealing. With a shake of his head, he decided he didn’t want to try coffee after all.
As they chatted, unaware of the figure watching them from afar, the landscape growing darker with each passing moment, they finally arrived at the farm.
Altha unloaded the traded goods from the Tsjoopa, and with a nod to Hagr, she motioned for him to stow it away in the barn. Hagr complied, placing the Tsjoopa in the barn, where sturdy plascrete walls and reinforced wooden beams protected it from the harsh winds. With the task done, he made his way back to the igloo. As he approached, he noticed that the interior was unusually dark, the comforting glow of the moonlamp absent. With a sense of unease gnawing at him, he entered cautiously.
To his horror, he found himself face to face with a cloaked figure in dark black and red, his alien eyes glowing with an otherworldly light. Before he could react, he spotted his mother on the floor, tears streaming down her face, with another figure standing over her, a scarred human face, and a sinister three-headed beast tattoo on his neck. “Mumu!” Hagr screamed in terror. The figure with glowing eyes uttered incomprehensible words, while the scarred man cursed, "We can't leave any witnesses, Deskva.” Altha whispered urgently, "Hagr, stay calm. Everything will be fine." Hagr looked at his mother in disbelief, his heart pounding in his chest. "What's going to happen?" his voice trembled with fear. The scarred human scoffed, "We can sell the boy on the black market, but the woman? She's too old to bother selling. Not worth the hassle, Des." Hey guys, hope you’re all doing OK.
I want to be a “yes-man”, and agree to hang out with people and go places and do things and get better at being single but I’m really struggling.
I know that rotting in bed all day and doing nothing is just encouraging stagnancy… but it seems like it’s all I can do. I don’t want to hang out with people. I don’t want to go out. It makes me too sad. It makes me feel more alone. I’m so tired.
But then of course, by turning down these opportunities I’m just left in my apartment alone. And that’s not helping at all.
I’m in a lot of pain. And I’ve never been a particularly social person. I have one or two close people and they are moving mountains for me but I’m finding myself getting snippy with them and rejecting their offers to go places. :(
I try to pick up piano again. Or drawing. Or journalling. Or any of my usual passions. And I just end up fading out and wanting to crawl back into bed. I feel no joy in what I love doing. Everything feels empty and, paradoxically, oppressive.
I’m trying to clean my place up but I just can’t seem to find it in me. My heart is very much broken. And it’s so tiring. It’s heavy. And I can’t stop hurting.
How do I find the energy to heal. To be better. To live and grow and be happy. When it seems I have no energy at all?
Can someone please just say it’s gonna be OK? I just want somebody to call me sweetheart and hold me in their arms for a bit, yanno? Words of encouragement from someone who knows.
And tell me .. how the heck do I navigate this awful, awful funk. How do I find the motivation in me to start living life alone again?

The sad story of a damaged kid(me)
Well, to start it all off i know that this story doesnt really compare with many others here but i honestly think that booze has had a significant impact on my life for such a young age(22 btw).
To give some context to why the following events fcked me up so much just keep in mind that on a psychological test i did when i was 15 it showed that the thing i valued most in my life at the time was my family.
Fast forward 2 years and my life started to fall apart, i was living in a beautiful mansion with a pool and a "happy" family of 5, we were throwing parties regularly and in general people respected me a lot and not just for the huge house and get togethers i was able to have but also because i was that "mysterious down to earth rich kid that you would never think lived in said mansion and has a beautiful gf(model type beautiful" and quite frankly i loved that reputation i have to admit.All of a sudden age 17 i started developing problems with drinking, we would go out 3 times a week with m friends and i would drink until couldnt physically drink anymore since the beginning, it was clubing though so people couldnt tell i was drinking as much as i was, but i was still a happy drunk and in general it wasnt causing me problems and i wasnt doing it more than my peers were.That summer i got back home one day and realised my father was out of his mind drunk to the point of cussing at us and in general being a huge dick(something he had never ever even displayed signs of), thats the day i learned my father was just a high functioning alcoholic that had just started going off the rails with his problem.
For the next year that incident stayed an isolated one and things were supposed to be normal again, until the day my father and my mother had a huge argument in front of me and my 2 sisters(one 20 and one just 12), and when i say argument i mean big truths coming out and books being thrown, then that kind of became the norm and 2 months later just before my graduation i had 2 big news coming my way. One was that they were taking a divorce(which they announced to us while my father had a whiskey bottle infront of him and was heavily intoxicated) The second one was that we had absolutely zero money and had to sell the house to keep existing(something that we also had no clue about).Nice plus is that i was breaking up with at the time my 5 year hs sweetheart very badly(cheating and yelling and all sorts) lost her to the booze as well btw
Then the year after school is were i chose to destroy my own life over the mistakes of others, i started drinking a lot more than i used to and its not the frequency but the fact that when i started i wouldnt stop until i physically couldnt drink anymore, i made myself a fool infront of a lot of people, i was acting insane in front of all my school at certain events and in general burned down every bridge i had built and every bit of reputation i had left. Mix that with use of other illicit substances and you have a shell of a young man that lives just to drink his pain away, i was always curious as to why its only me getting so angry drunk, in hindsight its pretty obvious.A year of this goes by and i have now absolutely embarassed my self in front of everyone i know to the point of not wanting to go out at all but still going out and being a zombie until i drunk that first drink.
Then covid hits and boy oh boy was it a time to be alive, two parents fighting and getting divorced while not being able to move out because we were still waiting to sell the house, at the time my father was taking heavy meds for depression(benzos) which i unfortunately found and abused with alcohol for the whole first summer of covid, when i say abused i mean 7-8 beers daily and 9-10 pills daily( 3 different ones as well). I hardly remember any of that time but i have seen pictures of me and i looked unhinged, i was legit high and drunk the whole time for like a month straight..
Then the house gets sold and we can finally move out with my mother and two sister to an apartment she owned that was not even close to where we were living, my room now is the size my bathroom was back then and my sisters went from 20m2 bedrooms to sharing a room next to my mother(who has it even worse if you compare).I dont want to sound ungrateful because im really not, i am so happy we even had a place to go and not leave the beautiful town we live in, i am grateful to not have died during certain times, i am grateful to still have food to eat, i still remember the first market we went after the house sold, first time thatwe could but more than 15 euros things at once for like years. BUT i still grieve the life i had, the house i had, the reputation i had. People now didnt talk to me apart from my 5 best friends(i am grateful for them also).
So, after we moved i was drinking but not as heavily then i started just not being able to control it, i was rolling a dice everytime i drunk, will i be pleasant when blackout drunk or will i cause everyone to hate me for the night again? I was craving so much attention that when drunk i did anything i could to get it, some years go by and my life generally seems to be going kinda good, i wasnt doing well academicaly but i had a job, i was much better mentaly and i was developing some skills plus being an athletic helped a lot.
The reason i am writing this is because yet again for the past month i have done horrible things while drunk, the thing with me is i will do something very stupid and then control the drinking for sometime and then again the same over and over again, might i add i am a very calm kinda shy akward and sensible person when sober so the contrast to when i am drunk is so big that my friends have a name for my drunk alter ego.1 month ago i drove drunk and thank god only did some damage to the car, 2 days ago i got drunk and lashed out on my mother, everything came out but in the worst way possible, pushing her cussing her and for no reason at all, all she asked was for me to give her the car keys so she will be sure i wont drive while being so intoxicated.I have never felt the embarassment guilt and shame i feel right now, i am a person that will not kill the cockroach because i will feel sorry for it, my mother is like the most important person in my life and the fact i did this to her breaks me, i hate what this poison has done to my life and i want to stop and never drink again.I have tried moderating it but after a while i just drink "normally" again. I have left out a lot of things and a lot of drunken nights and actions i regret, almost all my days are now being spent cringing and being ashamed of the things ive done while drunk, i feel like vanishing right now(i wont kms) but its really bad. I was once court ordered to a transitional living center and as I was writhing in the pain of withdrawal on the couch inside the office they had there, this one guy during his office shift would play music. It was all music I never liked before but in my heightened state of sensitivity I was able to hear what was appealing about it. One album he used to play was of a modern sounding(it was 2008 at the time) punk-esque band that had a slow jam type song at the end of the album. That jam has a chorus: (Something, something, something) Life is one big rut (Something, something, something) Soccer Mom SLUT! The verses were in a kind of lethargic almost talking delivery. The only other lyric I can remember from it is "when's the last time you pleases your man"? I have searched in every way possible. No lyrics site recognizes it. I must hear it again. It's a song from the week in my life when I chose to live. Soccer Mom SLUT!

Had a horrible reaction to the pain medications after surgery and I’m now on my 6th day of a maculopapular rash over my ENTIRE body. My back is the worst but I’m in a half-leg cast and basically have to be on my back the entire time with my leg in the air.
Last time I had an allergic reaction like this, the scars were crazy! Deep reddish-purple splotches. And that was just my back! This is everywhere!!!
The doctors won’t give me steroid cream because they said it may interfere with my wounds healing. The antihistamines they’ve prescribed haven’t worked.
Please help!

Hi, I've been with my partner for 3,5 years and in the last months it's getting pretty obvious that he probably has autism. He has to wait for around a year until he can get evaluated, but given everything we read, we're pretty sure. I'm really struggling with some of his traits, and he pins them down to autism and what's crushing me is that he is saying that he cannot change those things and that's how it will be. I understand that some parts he cannot change, but certain things I'm not so sure if they are autistic traits or just his personality. So I hope you can help me learn the difference. For 1., he blurts things out at inappropriate times that are quite insensitive and rude, usually directed towards me and my daughter, but not others. For example, we were leaving a climbing hall one time and he was hanging out by the reception, and I cheerfully said: 'Shall we go?', to which he - very loudly - said: 'No, I have to pay! Or do YOU want to pay?' while looking at me almost disgustingly and letting out a frustrated sigh. I felt so embarrassed. I didn't know he had anything to pay for (and before you judge, we each pay for our own things and split shared expenses 50/50.) This morning, my daughter was sick, I was very worried and overwhelmed, and upset with her dad (not my partner) that his actions resulted in her being ill, and I was worried out of my head. My partner then started going off about how I used "too much water to boil JUST 1 egg" and I was like, really? Now? Who cares about the water when my daughter is so ill and I am worried? I get that he's not always able to read the room but sometimes it's quite painful as he can be so blunt and rude at the worst of times, and a bit insensitive towards me and her, while appearing so caring about others. Is this an autism trait?

1. If I bring things up that bother me, even in the most sensitive and gentle way, he will deflect and immediately go off about: 'Yeah, but what about you?! You did x,y, and z!!" Our disagreements or even just attempts for clarity and opportunities for connection turn into explosive arguments because it seems impossible to have a grounded, intelligent conversation. Everything seems like a fight instead of looking for ways to improve or repair certain things, and with that, come closer together.

There are other things but they don't bother me as much and I can make my peace with them, but these 2 really bother me and feel like dealbreakers for me. He is otherwise a really good man, he is caring, fun, and we have our good times. But every time I bring those 2 up and that I'd like those things to change and improve, I get a reply: 'Well, that's how I am, that's autism. I cannot change that.'
I'm not really sure what to do anymore or how to approach this. I don't want to leave the relationship but I feel like I am building up walls between us because of those things. I don't feel emotionally connected or safe around him anymore, I feel like I cannot open up and be myself. I've become closed off. I hope this community can help me understand things better.

I have been asked a lot about injection pain. There are a couple items that I have not seen posted anywhere and thought I would put up a note.

1 - Temperature. If your juice is cold it will hurt, either during injection or for a few days after. as your sitting at work or what ever, put you bottle under your balls and sit on it for like 20 to 30 minute, warm it up. You internal body temperature will match the temperature of the injection and it doesn't hurt anywhere as much.

2 - Time. If you have to rush your injection, dont do it and wait till you can take your time. For a 1.5 ml injection, you should be on the plunger for 25 seconds. The old saying "slow and easy wins the race" is the truest statement when it comes to IM injections in your ass or legs [haven't done other sites]. 1ml should be no less than 20 seconds, take your time with it.

Had a miscarriage Jan 2024, Currently 5 weeks pregnant, with hcg doubling as needed however, I’m starting to FEEL not pregnant like I did in January when I began miscarrying. I’m losing the nausea, losing the breast tenderness, some pelvic pain and idk if this is related but getting some leg/thigh tingles/spasms. I went in for an ultrasound yesterday and they saw the gestational sac but no fetal pole again.
My Dr does not want to give me progesterone as I haven’t had “recurrent” losses but I feel like I’m headed that way anyhow??
I guess I’m posting for reassurance? Anyone on the same boat? How do you ask for progesterone?? Would a blood draw confirm? I feel defeated already.

I recently got a new gauge (29 instead of 25) and the first time i did it, it was 0 pain vs 25 which was not horrible but decently substantial. I thought 'shit, i finally dont have to deal with this pain anymore'... Then, the next time, it hurt. And again. And now, 4+ times later, its still consistently hurting when I inject. So... I'm curious, does anyone have any ideas on what I could be doing wrong? For some assorted thoughts:
I use an auto injector but i dont know if im pressing down hard enough the whole time (a light comes on when its pushed down but sometimes i realize its a little dimmer than it should be). I also havent been the best with hydration lately which im thinking may have something to do with it? And finally, with my leg itself, i usually 'relax it' but im wondering if more 'firm and in a 90 degree angle (sitting up) would be better.
Any thoughts are appreciated as the pain is making it much harder to inject and i KNOW it shouldnt be this painful since the first time with the new gauge i felt barely anything.

I'm experiencing a loss of mobility. I get worse everyday. Standing hurts, sitting in regular chairs hurts, moving hurts. I'm in pain constantly and occasionally losing feeling in my lower legs. I admitted (stupidly) that I was going to talk to my doctor about a wheelchair because my normal mobility aids just don't work anymore. The response? I have now been called a slur by two family members and told that I can't work or be independent anymore if "it's really that bad." The specific family member who has always told me I make things up and am a hypochondriac and is the biggest proponent against me using any aid is planning on coming to visit me to attend my doctors appointments with me. They have in the past lied about me to doctors to make me seem less disabled. Even the crisis help line person last night called me a slur and told me my family is right for trying to keep me strong.

Hi everyone. My girl is 10.5 years old, and she has been having a real problem moving on her right front leg. We thought we had it under control with pain meds, but something happened in the last day. She can't walk, stand up, or even lay down without a real struggle. Our stairs are out of the question, so for now I'm going to move into my living oom so she doesn't try to go upstairs.
We have a vet appointment already scheduled for Tuesday to monitor her baseling levels for bloodwork levels from the meds.
I am going to have them give me the run-down on if there is anything else that can be done to help her leg, but if not, she absolutely can't go on like this.
Maybe or maybe not right now, but these are her final days. What are your recommendations for ensuring I make the most out of this time? I don't want to look back and think that I could have done more to appreciate her.

My last relationship was my shortest - a year - but he was my best friend, and it’s the hardest break up I’ve ever been through. We were so happy and in love, but it was a real Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde situation at the end.
We ended our relationship in November, and just a few weeks ago the same thing happened as always… he reached out apologizing and feeling so guilty for the pain he caused, saying I didn’t deserve any of it. He then yelled at me the next day and blocked me. Every time he’d come to some kind of epiphany of his cruelty, he’d seem so genuine, and the next day it’s like it never happened.
He made me feel crazy and needy if I asked for support during hard times. He would get mad at me for wanting to talk to him about how he made me feel. It felt like he was saying, “how dare you make me feel bad in this moment by telling me how I made you feel.”
At one point, he called me screaming and yelled at me for making him wake up his roommates… as if he couldn’t step outside, or calm down before calling me. “Why do you make me do this?”
I’m 31, and just now coming to the realization that all of that in and of itself is just textbook emotional abuse and manipulation.
Overall… I hate dating. I don’t play games, and dating and all of the courtship and tactics to “make someone want you or work for it” feels so gross and manipulative.
But I’m constantly approached when I’m out and about. I’m a beautiful woman, but I’m dorky and awkward and I just lay everything out on the table. I’m naive and see the best in people. Literally, last night a man came up to me and was so cocky and gross. He was basically acting like he was interviewing for a job, and when I tried talking to him, he’d interrupt me and say “no, don’t interrupt me. Let me finish telling you why I want to take you out and I don’t want you wasting my time if this isn’t going anywhere.” Telling him he was being rude felt so uncomfortable for me.
In relationships, I’ve been taken advantage of over and over again. I’ve gotten myself into risky situations because I’m shy and polite. After my ex broke me down… I’m now in a place in my life where I just don’t want to be myself or do that anymore.
I don’t want to be honest and vulnerable. I don’t want to see the best in people. I feel like I’m seen as an object and not as a full person, and I’m just so so sad about it. I hate how my worldview has been shaped over the years. I try to stay positive, but I feel like the world is so much more cruel and scary than I made it out to be.
I don’t know what to do or how to feel, and I’m really grateful I have a new therapist and I’m grateful I can get this rant off my chest on Reddit.

In September of 2023 (about 9 months ago), I was going on a walk on the treadmill when all of a sudden I felt like my right knee was hyperextending as I walked. It felt like the back of my right knee socket had somehow become loose. I was startled, and stopped walking. The sensation has been there ever since, whenever I walk. I should note that I’ve always had hypermobile joints, but not to this extent/not like this.
I recently learned that I have “weak hamstring gait” when I walk, on my right side. Apparently, this is because my hamstring isn’t strong enough to counteract my quads while I walk, leading to the hyperextension/looseness in my right knee. Why does this happen? I’m not very active (quite sedentary actually, 10+ hours/day of sitting at my job), so I don’t think that I tore the hamstring. I also don’t have any pain.
Is there a way that I can fix this? It really does affect how I walk, and I’ve strained my right quad as a result of over-relying on it. I’ve started to do single-leg glute bridges, but I haven’t noticed any difference yet. When I do them, my right leg is noticeably shakier than the left.
Any advice is welcome. Thank you in advance!

A while ago I had created a post about martial arts where I classified Aikido as an awful martial art due to it's very lackluster damage. Many in the community corrected my misconception. So I did another run as a bionic monster start (you get bionic claws at the getgo) and got aikido as a martial art (luckily) on day 3. It's now the beginning of autumn. I have survived long enough to install a bunch of cbms, mutate, and wear (what i think) is late game gear: faraday chainmail with tempered steel brigandine / splint on top. Here's my thoughts on Aikido after using it exclusively to kill a couple thousand monsters.
If you're talking about sheer power, I'd probably classify it as S tier with the addition of bionic claws. With my late game gear, i ran face first into a zombie master, 2 necromancers, a handful of shockers, zombie brutes, shocker brutes, grabbers, pupating, smokers, and everything you can imagine. It was at night so i didn't aggro everything. after a desperate fight i came out on top (adrenal cbm is way too overpowered). As long as i wasn't completely surrounded, taking on 3-4 guys at the same time wasn't an issue. Nothing ever landed, mostly because of my great armor. I kept on throwing dangerous enemies away and breaking out of their grabs. My claws did piercing damage and bleed so in a prolonged fight, everything dies.
There are still a few problems with this build, mainly its still the low consistent damage. Compared with my default longsword build, it takes much longer to kill critical / heavily armored targets like bestial stalkers and hulks. While they can't hit you with normal attacks, their smashes send you flying, causing crazy amounts of pain. I struggled with these without pain management mutations / drugs. It's also hard to kill regenerators because of your low consistent damage. For example - i can't kill unseen hunters whereas with a longsword it's not an issue. Pupating zombies was another one i struggled with. takes forever to whittle them down, especially because i keep throwing them a tile away, giving them a chance to heal.
The other problem is electricity. unless you get an activity suit / faraday suit / dielectric cbm, all your melee attacks will shock you. i carried a hatchet until my faraday suit to take on electric zombies. you have the same issue as longsword, but i usually play early game with a fire axe, which does not conduct
The final problem actually is boredom. Aikido is honestly too amazing at defense. late game, you walk into a town, aggro everything and hold down tab (watch out for acid zombies because tabbing in a puddle of acid will kill you). 0 interaction required, 0 position needed. just hold down tab until nothing is moving and move to the next block. with my ninjutsu longsword build, even late game i still had to keep up the hit, move, move, move rhythm so fights felt interactive.
Ok a bit more about armor pen. How good is the armor pen with claws? Bionic claws do piercing damage, which while low damage, is decent vs armor. that said, armored targets like soldiers still take a long time to kill, but fortunately, you can just hold tab and snooze. the most armored monster i fought were bilious soldier zombies and kevlar brutes (no kevlar hulks for me at 1st day of autumn). the fight was unpleasant, especially the bilious soldier because every time aikido throws him out of melee range, he'd shoot me full of acid darts, which my faraday suit didn't do amazing against. his 25 cut / 20 pierce armor was a pain to deal with and i probably did as much damage with my claws as with bleeding. fighting one would shave off 1/3 of my leg / torso health due to acid and i had to activate adrenaline pump to have a chance. kevlar brutes were also a pain. at 30 cut armor, 25 pierce, i had a hard time landing meaningful chunks on him. every time he threw me, it was a boatload of pain. again - had to activate adrenaline pump to beat him, but fortunately his throws did much less damage than acid / acid bullets.
The verdict? i think i still enjoy playing with ninjutsu / fire axe / longsword more, but aikido claws is definitely a strong contender if you want to do a martial artist that can still carry its weight into late game. you'll definitely want to start bionic monster or get the adrenaline pump cbm to survive some of the hard encounters. i don't think it was as essential with my longsword build, but then again, i didn't take on as many crazy risks nor had as much issue with bilious / kevlar hulks

Had my first clot 10 years ago now (behind my knee) had my second less than a year later while on warfarin, they switched me to clexane injections for a couple of years I hand no end of problems with that, eventually (about two years) I was switched to xarelto I was on that for a long time had just as many problems as injections but no horrible stomach lumps, so I put up with it.. until last year I got a clot in the groin, so I was switched to Apixaban..
Great Apixaban was working I hardly had any swelling of my legs I really thought we’d finally dogs right medication… but now one year later my legs are swelling and one is bright red and I’m in lots of pain..
What’s left? I’m loosing hope in finding a solution I’m only 38 but it’s limiting my social life one of the few things enjoy is travelling/ driving and I’m getting to the point where I’m not able to do it anymore because of the pain I’m in for weeks afterwards..
I try to exercise but if anything it makes it worse
