TLDR: Ex attempted suicide while we were together and broke up with me soon after. Over the past year I have continued to reach out to her every few months or so to see how she is going, and to see if there is any chance we could be in each other's lives again (be it friends or relationship), even though she has expressed very much that she wants me to let her go and that she can't continue this ("this" being the talking to me).
Bit of a long post, sorry, but here goes.
Just over a year ago at the beginning of 2023, while we were dating, my Ex made a suicide attempt and very nearly didn't make it through. Obviously, this was a very tough time for her, and everyone close to her. Her family and I did all we could to offer support and be there for her during the recovery time. She went back home to her parents' place, in another city, after being released from hospital but only stayed a few days as she couldn't take it and just wanted to go back to her "normal" life. She is very much of the stubborn type and doesn't like to be given help by other people and feels like she has to do things herself. She also is very hard on herself, and I believe she feels a lot of self-blame and guilt for what happened (this is important for later on).
She was admitted to a mental health ward shortly after getting out of hospital which devastated her and obviously threw her "normal" life out the window. All she wanted to do after getting out of hospital was get back to her flat, back to her job, back to uni, and just continue on. I would call her on the phone most nights and offer to visit but she would refuse the visit as she didn't want me to "see her like this and in this place". Eventually they allowed her time out, like 4 hours a day and we would catch up during these times when we could, a lot of the time she wasn't up for it which I understood.
She got out of the ward about 2 months after being admitted and it was a tough month afterwards. She was obviously not feeling well about the whole situation and wasn't anywhere close to getting "better". At one point she even expressed to me how she still wanted to die. I was always very supportive of her, encouraging her to seek help via therapy, talking to her about it, encouraging her to come on walks/gym with me and whatever I thought might lift her mood. I made it very clear to her that I don't have any resent toward her or any ill feelings for what happened and that I only wanted to do whatever I could to help her get better, I really cared for her and loved her.
Unfortunately, after this tough month she decided to call it quits, claiming she thinks it will be better for both of us, that I deserve better, that she cares enough about me to not fuck me around... I agreed at the time saying that it probably is for the best, something I regret to this day and wish I fought a little more. There were a few instances before this in our relationship we she expressed that she thinks we should break up, not exactly pulling the pin, rather expressing her feelings, and I have talked her out of it and changed her mind (now I see why, she was most likely having thoughts about attempting suicide at this point).
After this breakup we talked a little over the next couple of weeks, seeing each other at the gym a couple times but it eventually got too much for her and she expressed this, so I suggested we got no contact, she agreed. This was probably the toughest time of my life as I not only was deeply saddened by our breakup as I loved her greatly, but I also worried a shit ton about whether or not she would be here when I woke up the next day. We remained in no contact for about 1 month I think until we spotted each other at the gym again and talked there, I then texted her after and tried to start a conversation, we talked for a little bit until she expressed how this needs to stop and she wants me to move on and let her go. A month after this her flat had a party and she invited me over, we have a small rekindling for a couple days but eventually it got to the same end result.
Since our initial breakup I have learned that she has been back to the mental ward two more times, the second being after making another suicide attempt. By coincidence, I reached out to her during both of these times and remained in contact until she was out, when she would call it quits shortly after. I think talking to me helped get her through it a little bit. The second time she expressed still that she doesn't really see any alternative future than her ending herself.
In short, every few months or so, I have reached out again via txt, she is initially very hesitant, but we normally continue talking for a little while until eventually we get to a point where she get very emotional and calls it quits again.
She has expressed to me each time these talks come to an end that she just wants me to let her go. She makes it very clear that she loved me very much and cares for me greatly, but she just wants me to move on and that she can't continue this. The problem is, I just can't stop worrying about her and obviously don't want to see her go. I also desire heavily to be a part of her life again. After not talking to her for a couple of months or more, I get a MASSIVE urge to reach out and check up on her, talk to her, that I just can't seem to shake. I get heavily down in my own life during these times as I can't think of anything else. I almost believe that if I don't reach out to her than I am giving up on her and feel as though I am turning my back on a loved one in their time of need. I also can't help but feel the reason she wants me to let her go and move on is that she is still planning on making another attempt and wants to lessen the impact on me as much as possible. Ofc, I would be destroyed either way.
I am writing this post as I am once again feeling these urges and struggling to decide what I should do.
I want to do everything within my power to help her through this time, but I feel like she is pushing/has pushed me away not because she doesn't want a relationship with me, but because she feels extremely guilty about what happened. She believes she has hurt me greatly and wears a lot of blame because of that, she even said that she breaks down when I text her as she feels so sorry for what she did to me. I have expressed to her many times that I don't see it that way and that there is nothing else I would rather do than to "help" her, that I can't "save" her, I just want to be there for her and support her.

My reason for never using a substance no matter what it is is because my whole childhood I watched my mom go through addiction and eventually overdose one night and die when I was 14. I grew up quick and saw the world differently. I vowed to never use a substance, to never let something control me or my actions. I’m only 17 years old in an extremely popular friend group although me myself a not very popular which means I get excluded from parties, get bombarded with questions about not drinking and become outcasted from a lot of my friends. Most of my friends know my situation and now don’t invite me to parties most of the time because they feel like I don’t want to be there. I can have fun without drinking but when I say that they literally can’t believe me. I’m kind of rambling at this point but the culture of my school is if you don’t drink/do drugs you are kinda weird. I can see my choice of never drinking or doing drugs as being immature as well as being mature at the same time, yes it’s the smart choice but I may be missing out on experiences. I don’t know if this is the right subreddit for this but I get no responses anywhere else. Please lend me some advice because I have still never met someone my age that has never drank or done drugs, I’m the only one and it’s a crazy feeling.

I am new to odoo and before signing up for odoo sh, I created my own one-page web app with online order feature. my products are very simple and there is only a small about of them. So I integrated Stripe and wanted to use Stripe for online orders and checkout. I My website and my stripe account both got a copy of my product catelogue (with some measures to make sure that it is up-to-date among all parties). When my customer ordered something on my website and paid through Stripe Checkout session, I would need those orders to be created on odoo so from there I can generate manufacturing orders and manage stocks, etc. But sales orders in Odoo are a bit tricky - there are waaay to many steps involved like quotation. I don't need all of those. I need something like retail orders or POS orders (but online). I also need to create a receipt-like picking list (like take-out orders in a restaurant), because the business has a small retail setup and it is just easier for this tiny tiny workforce.
I have not found any 3rd party modules doing this. Any input is appreciated!

This commercialization has led to a decontextualization of Buddhist practices and teachings, which has harmed the integrity and authenticity of the tradition in some western spaces. This made it so that sometimes, unfortunately, online buddhist spaces might have non-buddhist members outnumbering the real buddhist members. Which leads to misinformation and misconceptions spread unchecked.
But this community have created an environment where we can talk about buddhism, with proper moderation to prevent non-buddhist ideas or disinformation from getting away. Where we can openly talk about the marginalization facing Asian buddhists, and how Buddhism is culturally appropriated.

Golden Swastika exists to fight against the modern colonial projects of culturally appropriating Buddhist cultures and call out ideas/people that perpetuate race essentialist and harmful power structures over people of color.
Buddhism and it's misrepresentations does not exist in a color-blind vacuum, and this is a space that is not afraid to talk about these issues. But many times this also comes in the form of just sharing what actual real Buddhism looks like in Buddhist-born families and countries.

This space proudly opposes any form of Sectarianism and Bigotry. Golden Swastika, inspired by the dharma itself, strongly opposes hate of any kind. Racism, Xenophobia, anti-LGBTQ rtheoric etc. is not welcome here. This is a safe space, and a Buddhist one at that.
WE DO NOT TOLERATE HATEFUL APPROPRIATIONS OF THE DHARMA and we strongly oppose ANY FORM of race supremacy, nazism, colonialism, and ideologies that advocate political violence of any kind. Racism is the anti-thesis of Dharma. This community welcomes people from all ethnic and national backgrounds.
On top of that, this is a place for ALL kinds of Buddhists. Buddhists being, any legitimate lineage that earnestly follows the triple gems. Although it is inevitable that all people will have personal conclusions on which practices are good or bad, canon or not, we discourage the type of behaviour that is meant to attack or disparage a fellow buddhist tradition.

But in truth, It is an ancient sacred symbol that represents the eternal cycle of life, theories of chakra, and the great footprints of Buddha. It is analogous with dharmachakra. It is extremely common to see it in Asia and Buddhist art.
Golden Swastika's soul is about not compromising Buddhism and Buddhist culture to appeal to western sensibilities and expectations. Swastika has been our symbol of peace for thousands of years before the Nazis appropriated it. Starting to use it back in its original meaning is the only way to recontextualise the symbol and educate people in the west of its true meaning.

di na rin naman bago na majority of our applications were being ignored by recruiters. kaso i feel like sobrang bland ng resume ko. even my internship was somehow not related to the field na inaapplyan ko right now.
one month into job hunting, wala pa rin akong natatanggap na interview invites. i was thinking na kumuha ng trainings/certificates online since may nakikita akong di naman gaanong kamahalan. as a way to upskill na rin habang unemployed pa.
lalo ngayon sa construction industry, halos lahat ng employers puro may at least 1 year exp ang hinahanap.
my friends told me against it though. baka raw magsayang ako pera tapos wala naman palang bearing yung certs sa resume.

This is something that's been bothering me more lately.
There's a big "trust me bro" element with interest-based audience targeting in digital ad platforms that's basically oriented around us trusting tech companies that their 1st or 3rd-party data is actually accurate, and their audiences truly do contain people interested in the product/service category you are targeting.
Question is: is there any way to actually prove this? They of course hide behind excuses like saying the data is proprietary etc., but with how increasingly shady these companies are, with cookies increasingly dying/people declining tracking and so on, I'm simply not so sure.
This is a major reason why I simply prefer to use hand-picked Placements targeting or Contextual targeting wherever possible over any "interest" audiences, even if it means missing out on potential eyeballs.
At least when you hand-pick a Placement/Domain to serve an ad on, you can actually see it served there and reasonably assume that someone reading that website is interested in the topic. E.g: if I place an ad on say, Bloomberg .com, I can mostly be sure the person would be interested in finance.
Point being - why should I believe if I choose an audience such as "pet lovers" in Google Ads or Facebook Ads or wherever else, that their signals they use are actually going to be specifically targeted at people interested in pets, rather than just a bunch of random people?
Especially when you go and look at the Domains report as to where the ad actually showed afterwards - we're just supposed to trust that someone who was playing Solitaire online was definitely in the market for pet products, and not just another excuse to spray our ads everywhere on junk placements & charge us money for it?

 | The UK government’s Department of Culture, Media and Sport has published new regulations it intends to implement in response to a consultation regarding measures relating to the land-based gambling sector from the gambling white paper. submitted by FancyInvestment397 to GamblingSites [link] [comments] Department of Culture, Media and Sport Following analysis of the evidence submitted, the DCMS intends to increase the number of gaming machines allowed at certain land-based casinos to 80 and more than 20 for smaller casinos; allow a 2:1 ratio of Category B to Category C and D gaming machines in arcades and bingo halls; allow direct debit card payments on gaming machines; introduce an age limit of 18 and over for the use of ‘cash-out’ Category D slot-style gaming machines; and increase the maximum chargeable premises licence fees. DCMS conducted a public consultation on the measures relating to the land-based gambling sector from the gambling white paper from July 26, 2023, to October 4, 2023. The consultation was conducted to determine what changes are needed for the land-based sector in response to the growth of online gambling. In total, 87 responses were received from a variety of stakeholders, including researchers, adult gaming centre operators, bingo operators, campaign organisations, casino operators, individuals, local authorities, pub representatives and responses from the wider gambling industry. 16 additional responses were also received for a supplementary consultation to gather further evidence on the reform of the 80/20 rule. Some gambling industry participants included 888 William Hill, BACTA, Betfred, Betting and Gaming Council, Buzz Group, Entain, GambleAware, Gambling with Lives, GamCare, Genting Casinos UK, Hippodrome Casino, Merkur Bingo & Casino Entertainment UK, Merkur Slots, Rank Group and Wexel Gaming. This means “two Category B gaming machines on a cabinet device type can be made available to a minimum of one Category C or D gaming machine on a cabinet device type” and the same applies to in-fills and tablets. Regarding cashless payments on gaming machines, the DCMS will “allow direct debit card payments to be made on gaming machines, subject to the player protection measures”, including account verification for each transaction and a £100 transaction limit. Additionally, the government stated that the UK Gambling Commission will “consult on a number of player protection measures that may be included in their Gaming Machine Technical Standards to ensure that appropriate frictions are in place when direct debit card payments are used”. As for the 18 age limit for ‘cash-out’ Category D slot-style machines, the DCMS has stated that it will ensure it is enforced by making it “a criminal offence to invite, cause or permit someone under the age of 18 to use these machines”. It is also proposing that the industry “fund, conduct, and, crucially, report on the outcomes of voluntary test purchasing to DCMS”, while it will work with relevant trade bodies and operators “to understand the feasibility of this proposal and the frequency of any reporting to DCMS”. As for licensing authority fees, the DCMS has said that maximum premises licence fees which can be charged by local authorities will be increased to 15 per cent, enabling licensing authorities to “fund their enforcement and administrative gambling duties on a cost recovery basis”. I met a girl(f21) at 21, and originally entered the relationship as a situationship, I had no direction in life and was needing a place to stay as my lease was about to expire.As life unfolded, we ended up getting our own apartment together. As our time grew together, I began to see a future with her. The way she carried herself, the way she cared for me, it was like nothing I’d ever experienced before. Through her actions she, tried her best to help me be a better person, take accountability for my life, guided me out of my addictions, and ended up supporting me in a pursuit of my career. Over time I began to develop stronger feelings for her month by month and even started to feel guilty about the way I the reasons I entered the relationship in the first place. She was provided me with an environment that allowed for personal growth that I wasn’t even aware was possible and consciously and unconsciously offered endless support. We would talk about our future together, what we wanted it to look like, how many kids we were gonna have, the whole 9 yards. What was going to be a temporary fling originally, started to really devolop into serious feelings for this girl. Months pass and I finally get a breakthrough in my career that would not be possible without her support and my dedication. I pass my test and many new financial opportunities opened up for me. The best work opportunity happened to be 800 miles across the country (making about 3x what I was available in the location we were at) and after long talks of logistics and how it would be life changing for us we had a big decision on our hands we decided it would be the right time to take action. Before I left, I felt it would only be right to propose to her, given that she had been through so much with me and I couldn’t see my life without her. I decided to take the job for a month and test out the waters, and have her hold our apartment as a contingency plan to make sure the new job was a good fit. By the end of the month i really felt at home with the new job and I felt it was a great opportunity to plant roots for us. I asked her to move where I was and without hesitation she packed our whole apartment by herself to be with me. I offered to pay for a moving and packing service, but she insisted on packing herself and wanted to we split the cost of moving. It cost me all of my savings, ( about three years worth) but I felt it was truly an opportunity we could build our lives upon. Fast forward 6 months post move. I know she misses her friends and family, so I fly her out of state once a month to catch up. Where we are living is desolate, the winter was more extreme than I could imagine and she has been stuck inside for weeks on end keeping up with her remote job and taking care of our puppy. Working 12-14 hours a day was taking away from our quality time together and starting to really take a tolI on our relationship. Perhaps this job is more than I bargained for. I talk to my boss to get my hours reduced, so I can spend more quality time together and he agrees. Our relationship is in decline. Arguments that lead to know where, the cold shoulder and the silent treatment become regular. I try to make up date nights, activities to do in my spare time, nothing seems to satisfy her. I buy her plane tickets back home, and when she comes back, she can’t stop talking about an old friend she ran into. He’s accomplished this, he does that, yadda yadda. She wants to move back home. I offer to quit my job but she doesn’t want me to give up on this career that I’ve worked so hard for. While I want her to stay, I just knew how unhappy she was living where I worked, so I began looking at apartments for her and seeing what I could afford in both places. I helped her find a place, helped her pack up, and moved her 16 hours away, just to find out 10 hours through my trip that she wants nothing to do with me, is planning on partying all weekend with the guy she’d been talking to and had no intention of maintaining a long distance relationship with me. I’m not usually one to post anything online, but I’m unsure how to react to this. I feel betrayed yet guilty at the same time that I went into the relationship under not so great circumstances. A bit more than two years ago, my friends and I were invited to a party by a friend of a friend (the mentioned acquaintance, K). I didn’t know at the time but it was a Welcome Home party for K’s ex-boyfriend D that their friend group was hosting.
I had met K and D a few times in social settings but wouldn’t say we were friends or anything. Long story short, D proposed, K said no, D ended the relationship and went solo traveling around the world for 2 years, K never got over him and planned to use the party to try and get back with him, D ignored her, D spent the party talking, flirting, and drinking with me and we slept together that night. Me and D never stopped talking and have been together ever since and we recently got engaged.
Throughout these two years, K has constantly tried to split us up. She has accused me of everything from manipulating to assaulting D. She constantly texts and calls me saying I ruined her relationship with her soulmate and calling me names. She had shown up to our place drunk asking to cuddle D. I tend to give people more chances than they deserve and always thought she would stop. I never blocked her in hope of her eventually accepting reality. She gave up around six months after the party but when I posted our engagement on instagram a few days ago, she is even worse and has been bombarding both my and D’s phones.
Me and D have a wonderful relationship. He’s smart, handsome, successful, treats me well, my family loves him, his family loves me, he checks everything I want in a life partner but K is getting to my head now and making me question if it really is wrong to marry the former almost-fiance of someone I know. D can sense I’m feeling down and has been giving me even more affection, cooking my favorite meals and buying me flowers more than usual just trying to cheer me up. The good:
- Easy to build a data model -- intuitive for developers to define classes, fields, relationships between classes, and even extension classes where appropriate.
- Easy to use the screen designer to throw together an interface for users to enter data into your fields (more on this in the "cons" section).
- Easy to create working filters/queues so staff that use the system can track what's pending their review.
- Easy to set up user groups and control who can see what.
- Document management is built-in, easy to import documents and automatically tag them with keywords based on the record/screen they're being uploaded to. Also easy to query for all documents of a certain type, with certain keyword values, uploaded in a custom date range, etc.
- Transaction history on every record makes it easy to audit who changed what and when.
- Document templates -- the ability to generate a Word/PDF document with dynamic text on demand is very useful for clients that need their staff to print and mail letters.
- Ability to write C# code to do anything we want, even if we could do it with a native component. Our client's business logic often becomes so complex (and changes so often) that it's easier to manage with code libraries that fire when buttons are pressed, rather than with the built-in "no code" workflow design steps.
- Ability to build external applications that interface with/manipulate OnBase data using the OnBase DLL. We have some C# console applications that run on Windows Task Scheduler every night, for example "connect to this FTP instance and import whatever files have been imported in the last 24 hours, turn them all into data objects in OnBase, and send us a summary email".
- The look and feel of the client is clunky and outdated, looks like it's from the 90s. It's a Windows application. There is a web client but it lacks some key functionality and also has the same outdated look. The screen designer itself is just a bare bones HTML page you can add rows and columns to and drag/drop your fields on it. We've added some CSS to improve it somewhat and I'm sure if we brought in some designers they could push that further, but we shouldn't have to work so hard to make the default product not look bad. And don't bother trying to use it on your phone or tablet.
- Migrating changes from DEV/QA/PROD is a nightmare. Our WorkView instance has apparently reached the level of complexity at which the tool for exporting your data to be imported into another instance simply crashes and doesn't work anymore. Even when it does work on a fresh instance, it's a confusing experience of mapping all the fields and objects between the two environments and making decisions about whether to keep or overwrite each one. It's reached the point where we have no choice but to build in PROD, and test changes with internal users before we modify permissions so that they are visible to all users. Our TEST and DEV instances are therefore always outdated and not useful as a result. You can imagine how painful this has become.
- Performance is slow. We've never gotten a clear answer from our support calls about why it can take 15+ seconds for a record to load. I suspect this product was simply never intended to be pushed to the limits that we seem to have reached after so many years. From what I can tell, most Hyland customers use OnBase for document management/workflow, and if they have any WorkView/case management projects they use a small number of classes, with a small number of fields. We are 100% WorkView. I would guess our instance has 500 classes (tables), 1000 designed screens, 5000 filters/queues, and 2000 buttons that launch C# scripts. It takes 3 minutes for the OnBase studio/designer IDE to finish logging in/loading our instance before we can begin making any changes to it.
- Licensing is expensive and confusing. You can buy concurrent licenses that are shared between all users (expensive) or named licenses (less expensive) that are assigned on a per-user basis. We host a lot of different client projects on our instance, and it's not a good look when we reach the license limit and users start complaining that they can't log in. Our users have no idea what licenses are and shouldn't have to see error messages they don't understand. Of course this is a problem we can solve with more money but I am curious to learn how SN handles this.
- The built in reporting module leaves a lot to be desired. Very limited customization/styling, and no ability to set up a report to be emailed on a schedule. We instead rely on other modules like PowerBI and Tableau.
- I mentioned in the "good" section that we can build external applications in Visual Studio to create/modify OnBase data, but this is really a response to the poor IDE built into OnBase Studio which lacks so many features, it's easier to just import the OnBase DLL into a Visual Studio solution and build it there, so you have access to breakpoint debugging, logging, Nuget packages, etc. If I'm writing code in the platform IDE, it shouldn't be a miserable experience.
- Very limited developer resources. You won't find any resources on Stackoverflow, Reddit, or anywhere public. If you run into a problem, you can check the Hyland Community forums (good luck, the search functionality is broken) or send an email to support. Likely a result of the OnBase product just not being very well known/popular. Makes me a bit jealous of the more well known platforms like Salesforce and... maybe ServiceNow?? It was refreshing to find an active subreddit, at the very least!
