2024.05.15 23:53 kiltedfrog I'll make my own Star Trek! With catgirls and turtle waifus.

The Communist captain gave me a disgusted look, but then I realized it wasn't me that caused him such disgust, but my bride behind me. I closed the comms channel. xenophobic dickhead.
The tractor beam interrupted the functioning of the gravity plates that had been installed in our brand new two hundred year old ship. They were supposed to work without power for at least twenty minutes. I had paid some attention to the briefing on the ship's systems, just not... really good attention, which was regretting Nyany let out yelp of surprise. She hadn't spent months in zero g training. I grabbed her hand and since I was still bolted to the pilot's seat I easily helped her into her seat where she strapped in.
"Thanks," She smiled at me and blinked slowly. "It's been a couple centuries since my zero-g training. Felidians do not do well in zero gravity."
We sat there for a moment holding hands, getting pulled toward the big grey communist warship, watching in silent horror. I squeezed her hand, and she squeezed back.
And then from every speaker in the cockpit, an alarm started to blare.
Torpedo Alert
A high speed flash of red, I'm guessing the torpedo, smashed into the great grey slab. It came from behind and above us, and very very close. The torpedo lodged right in the protruding tractor beam emitter, disabling it before it exploded.
The explosion rocked us backward and shook our relatively small craft.
Another torpedo seemed to come from our ship and hit the communist ship in the open hole the first one made before it too detonated. Then a visible energy shield appeared around the great warship.
We received a hail from... I hoped whoever was shooting torpedoes at the commies, the computer couldn't identify the source.
Much to my surprise when the viewscreen turned on it was Terriphany, she had clearly aged, but it was very much obviously her. I thought only tortoises lived to extreme ages, but what do I know about xenobiology.
"Terriphany, I assume you're the one who turned off that tractor beam for us?" I never expected to be so genuinely glad to see a woman I had been such as ass in front of.
"No time to explain, standby for coupling." There was a clang on our outer hull and her ship coupled to mine on the docking port.
"Captain Davis, Nyany, whoever is flying up there? Those communist humans are only gonna be disabled for so long. Be a dear and start flying us the hell away from here!" She sounded older too, but determined in a way the young woman from the hot tub hadn't.
Nyany grabbed the yoke in the co-pilot's seat and took control, she punched the throttle full forward and we dove away from our attacker. She aimed us toward the Earth, we had dropped out of the RarDrive at the L1 point between the Earth and Moon. My god, the Earth. It was a covered in a thick grey cloud from pole to pole. What happened? It wasn't this bad two hundred years ago.
As I sat there bewildered at the state of my homeworld, the hatch opened and a handful of slightly-more-human-looking-than Terriphany turtle people dropped in. I was at once reminded of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles...
"Hi Dad, Nice to meet you." The first one said. He had a thick bundle of cables in his very human looking hand as he leaned over the seat I was in, and popped open the console to quickly plugged it in. "We're good Mom!"
"Standby..." Terriphany talked past Nyany and me to, I guess our son? While she pressed a few commands on her console. "Alright, Nyany, could you aim us where that navicom is suggesting, and then push that big red button for us."
She aimed the ship up from my now grey world, and over the horizon. Nyany looked at me, and I nodded. She hit the button and a Rainbow assaulted us.
"Owww Fuck!" Said the adult turtle-man standing behind me.
"Leonardo, Language!" His mother chided over the intercom. "Now, come help your old mother down into that ship. I want to explain myself to your father."
Nyany and I got out of our seats. When I was on my feet the need to slap myself in the face with both hands. Nope. Awake.
"Are you okay?" Nyany's tail said she was no edge. I could hardly blame her. That was a very wild few seconds, and now we were off again, but with a bunch of turtle-people we'd never met before calling me Dad. I'm on edge too.
"No... who would be okay right now? I'm pretty far from okay." I am honest. "But I think maybe, eventually I'll be okay. It's just... a lot to process. We almost died."
"Well... lets go see what Terriphany has to say." She took my hand and squeezed it, I squeezed back.
And we walked into the back of the ship where Terriphany, my three children with her, and two of my adult grandchildren and one of their spouses were waiting, along with a clutch of eggs that I assume contain my great grand children.
"First things first, we installed a cloak so that no one will be able to find us, at least hopefully. I put all the money I made from Disney paying me to having your children from stored DNA samples into stealth tech research. I took the pinnacle of our designs and destroyed all the research and the entire company a week before we came here to join you. This is your eldest son Leonardo, the second to hatch was Rembrandt, and your only Daughter Sofonisba hatched third. Her children with a human man, Frank, deceased, are Artemisia and Donatello. Artemisia has laid a clutch that she made with her mate, Chelon. Donatello has yet to find a mate, we all hope he can do so in whatever future we find ourselves in."
Everyone waved one at a time and when she was done speaking, I nearly lost my legs. Nyany helped me find a chair. "Get him some water, please."
Sofonisba brought a glass to me. She looks a lot like me, how can a turtle person look so much like me. What the fuck Disney-corp, Captain Tanner, whichever of them was responsible for this... I actually needed to thank. My surprise family had really pulled my ass out of the fire. I splash myself in the face with the glass of water more than I drink it, but I did swallow a little in the process.
"Okay, so that's a lot. I have questions."
Terriphany gestured for me to go ahead. And all the kids found places to sit down themselves too. Nyany stayed standing behind and beside me, her hand on my shoulder.
"So what now? How much did Disney pay you for this? Was there some sort of reality show associated with raising them too? Is Disney even still around? Why are they all named after Earth's renaissance artists?" They came tumbling out faster than they could answer.
"Disney paid Mom plenty." Rembrandt said.
"Turtin' along with Terriphany, yes." Sofonisba said. "It put us all through college. Phd's the lot of us."
"Disney named the first three of us, and we just..." Leonardo sorta trailed off.
"...carried on the tradition afterward, I guess." Sofonisba took responsibility for naming her own children in the same fashion."
Terriphany's tone took a dire note when she answered his only remaining unanswered question. "As for old Disney corp... well, they fully captured the galactic government when they went properly interspecies in their executive level. It's the Disney Way now, not the Milky Way. Humanity on Earth rebelled against Disney rule and after it was deemed the citizens had too much hope to be properly profitable for the company, the planet was bombarded from space. Most of humanity retreated violently from capitalism after the blanketing of earth in that grey fog."
Nyany was smarter than me, she asked a very good question, "So why did they try to take us alive, and not just blast us out of existence while we crawled around the solar system at near light speed?
"Oh, because the RarDrive is a bomb that will wipe out half the solar system in a single massive explosion if it's disengaged early. Old Disney was smart and vicious. This is all in your contract Captain Davis, did you not read any of it?"
"People from my time don't really fully read contracts. Just press accept or sign and assume its fine."
"That explains why the kids are such a surprise to you. I wasn't the only one you know..." She hook her head in disbelief. "The other reason to not explode you, is that you are the richest single person in the galaxy. Captain Tanner invested a small portion of your funds into buying a rather intelligent investment AI to manage your resources, and it smartly paid to upgrade itself. As a result, It the we left your AI and Disney Corp were engaged in galaxy wide commercial and financial warfare, as well as some actual warfare in terms of proxy wards. Half the galaxy thinks of you as a hero, an the other half a villain."
Nyany gave me a little shake and whispered in my ear. "Earlier when I said It was hundreds of years since my Zero-g training, I meant... from my point of view. I'm four hundred and twelve earth years old." I think she realized I hadn't properly read her bio before starting the show, but I had, it said she was twenty seven, which I now realize must have been her planet's years.
"So... now what?" I asked again.
Terriphany smiled in her turtle way, "Well If the rumors are true, then only the living Relic, Captain Davis, In other words, You, my dear baby-daddy, can take command of the AI and give it new instructions. Its current objective is to "maximize profit for Captain Davis" and the main hub will hopefully still be at the star system about two hundred light years away that we're headed to at a turtle's pace. Feel free to take some time to think about what you want to do with that information, but I'll tell you what I think you should do if you want."
"Hit me, Terri."
She smiled, and I could almost see that twenty four year old turtle girl in the hot tub again. God I was such as ass. "I think you should tell it make the star trek future actually happen."
"Yea, I think I will."
A pretty good day later, we smashed through the rainbow above a beautiful blue-green orb.

2024.05.15 10:30 Pigik83 What is a web unblocker and how does it work?

Hey everyone!
I recently dove deep into the fascinating world of web unblockers and thought I'd share some insights that might just change how you see internet restrictions and web scraping. You might already know that web unblockers are like secret passageways that let you sneak past internet censorship or geofencing. Think of them as VPNs on steroids, allowing not just encrypted data transfer for privacy but also unrestricted browsing freedom.
But here's where it gets really interesting, especially for folks in the web scraping arena. Web unblockers serve as these powerful APIs designed to outsmart anti-bot protections. They’re like the ninjas of the internet, using tactics such as IP rotation, browser fingerprinting, CAPTCHA solving, and even Javascript rendering to access the data we need.
Now, you might think a proxy does the job by changing your IP address. But web unblockers? They're the whole package, offering a bunch more than just a disguise. Yet, it's not all smooth sailing. No single web unblocker can claim victory over every anti-bot mechanism out there. Tech giants like Cloudflare are in constant evolution, crafting more complex defenses to keep bots at bay.
This is exactly why I conducted the Great Web Unblocker Benchmark. It's a showdown to see how different web unblockers stack up against the toughest anti-bot solutions in the wild. Sure, there's a price tag attached to these unblockers, but picking the right one isn't just about spending money—it's about investing in seamless data access for our projects.
In the end, the key takeaway is weighing the cost against the potential to maintain an uninterrupted data flow for our customers. Let's keep pushing the envelope and finding the best tools to navigate these challenges together.
Cheers to an open and accessible web for all our scraping needs!

2024.05.13 05:58 SleepyCorgiPuppy Questions occultist and hexblast

For Occultist ascendency Withering Presence:
1) What is the range of its “nearby”?
2) When it inflicts its withered, is that just 1 stack? Seems awefully slow to get the max 15 stacks
When I look on POE Ninja, 51% of hexblast characters are occultist.
I know they can go power charge stacking, and free max curse, but I wonder if the "nearby" of both Withered Presence and Void Beacon is POB bait, in that they give a lot of damage but in actual play don't work out as well.
Also what do people usually level with before switching to hexblast? The minimum from my SSF test is a curse on hit ring, and profane proxy makes it feel so much better.
Please enlighten me, thanks

2024.05.12 05:53 Throwawaygarbageboi Personal ranking of every CoTM 2 subweapon and character

Preamble:

I ranked subjects on universal usability, so if they have a very important role in one mode or gameplay style but are borderline unusable in the rest, they can still have a decent ranking. This is all my opinion, and I'd like to hear yours since there are several things on this list that I'm contentious on, and despite having completed this game I still have a decent bit to learn.

Ranking:

D Tier

  1. Dagger - Infinite range is no longer unique to Miriam and Soul Vision was mega buffed, eliminating the competition.
  2. Hand Grenade - Has almost zero use cases. Just barely edges out Dagger in terms of WP/dmg efficiency but gets swamped by everything else. Too expensive to be a regular weapon and too weak to be a DPS powerhouse.

C Tier

  1. Partisan - Easily the best coverage of any upwards style sub, but otherwise very underwhelming. Hitting with one partisan does less than 1 damage per WP, and hitting with both does less than 2. It's best unique use is blocking Gremory's orbs in a solo run due to it's infinite pierce, but Drake Cannon can do that, too. Otherwise, it can come in clutch for hitting important targets high up, but almost every other character has a subweapon that does the same thing but cheaper, faster, and stronger.

C+ Tier

  1. Impact Lance - Has only a few use cases throughout the entire game, but is very good when those use cases occur. One is to skip the vertical platforming sections in level 8 during the locusts swarms on episode 1 and solo runs. Another few are the final bosses in episodes 1/solo, and the final episode. She can use it during both fights to get above the bosses final phases and pogo on them for a long time. The flaws include it's bad hitbox, slow speed, and liability against the bosses as both have attacks that will knock her off them and deal major damage. The shortcuts it can take are nice but are far from exclusive to Dominique (Robert can canon-jump, Alfred can create platforms from frozen entities, and Gebel can fly)
  2. Ball and Chain - This is where weapons start to get genuinely good. The larger screens in the game mean the formerly good-enough range on this weapon doesn't quite cut it anymore, and while it has good raw power and decent efficiency, it's pretty slow and precise for what it does. The real crux of this weapon is the fact it takes up space for other sub weapons for Zangetsu, who (unlike other characters) has other sub weapons that are so good they completely outclass this one even considering it's unique function. Also it's completely worthless on Ultimate Zangetsu unlike his other subs.
  3. Rising Wind - This weapon is incredibly strange to rank. It's not bad by any means - fundamentally it's actually pretty amazing. It's efficient, cheap, powerful, and has almost screen wide range. However, being somewhat slow, inaccurate, and lacking coverage aren't it's biggest problem's (although they are considerable) - it's competition. It is HARD outclassed by other options on Dominique - not just other sub weapons, but her regular attacks. Someone like Zangetsu or Alfred would potentially give up one of their existing subs for that, but Dominique has anti-air combat baked into her character due to her upward stabs. It's not a spot Dominique can afford to waste, either due to her other amazing subs.
  4. Electro Crawler - Completely annihilates the ending of stage 6 (one of the hardest parts of the game if left uncountered) and chunks bosses above her, but like impact lance is a little too situational and outclassed by her default kit. Is incredible for a solo run, but ranges from great to useless everywhere else.
  5. Sickle - Unlike Daggers, this is a piercing weapon with half-decent power, especially on multi-hit. Its pseudo-infinite range blends well with its piece as it can cut through projectiles like archer barrages and ninja shurikens, allowing Miriam to either camp back and keep throwing or kite the projectiles to finish the enemy off herself. Its main issue is raw efficiency and consistency - If it only hits once (which isn't uncommon due to the necessity to use it defensively from fullscreen as it's too slow to use up close) it's incredibly inefficient with its WP/dmg ratio, especially if you can't catch it on return. That, combined with its overall middling power and lack of any solo shortcut usage keeps it from being any higher.
  6. Explosive Chain - It's a small boost to Ball and Chain, but it makes a world of difference. It's efficiency is definitely higher up on the list of weapons but again it's outclassed not just by other options but the possibility of Ultimate Zangetsu's charge slash (or even the ever-presence of helm splitter in Soul Eraser and Daizangetsuto runs). The extra range allows it to hit enemies it couldn't before (both with and without jumping) but it still retains the slowness. Like Dominique, it's also a sub-slot on a character that absolutely can not afford to waste it.
  7. Soul Vision - The best sub weapon for Solo Alfred runs - completely useless everywhere else. It increases range, it's safe on usage, it increases DPS, enemies will target it instead of Alfred, it can collect multiple power ups (which are absolutely essential for solo Alfred runs), and it makes you use your normal attack which regenerates WP, making it essentially free. It absolutely carries Alfred solo runs - but that alone doesn't warrant a higher placement.

B Tier

  1. Healing Fruit - Inefficient for what it is, but what it is (is) incredible. It's best used for focusing on a single, essential character's health regeneration as focusing on multiple is too expensive. It can also be used in both normal and solo runs as a pogo-boost as the fruit is bounce-able for a short moment after spawning, allowing for certain power ups to be acquired. Very good.
  2. Demon Essence - Does great damage boosting on paper, but the only things it would make big damage against on are big enemies (which will die before the damage boost really cumulates) or bosses (which won't stay still/vulnerable long enough to allow for several melee attacks anyway). In that same situation, it's also much worse on anybody that isn't Zangetsu since they attack so slow that it won't get the chance to rack up damage. It's true best use is passing damage thresholds against mid-strength enemies, turning 2 hit kills into 1 hit kills, but this depends on the character and power ups acquired. For example, if an enemy has 6 HP, even with Demon Essence only Hachi can one-hit kill it while everyone else still 2 shots (boosted or not). Meanwhile, if you have the attack glove upgrade, everyone besides Robert and Alfred (without the wind spell) one-shots when boosted. In short, it has good potential, but requires a ton of game knowledge to use to it's fullest.
  3. Rapier - The best upwards focused sub weapon in my opinion. It has the coverage of Robert, the cheapness and power of Zangetsu, and the speed of Dominique. It can create just enough room to walk at the end of stage 6 and has enough range to kill all of the heads on the wall of boss 6 in a single throw - do it twice (which costs nothing due to the WP drops) and the boss is toast. That's not to mention it's so fast and powerful (if all 3 daggers hit) that it's essentially a superior main DPS option to any normal attack by any normal character.
  4. Axe - It was the undisputed second (arguably first) best subweapon in the first game, but it doesn't hold up as well this time around. Not only was it nerfed in damage, but the environment of this game is a lot less friendly to it. Bosses have a lot more health so using it as your primary DPS is too expensive to one-cycle, and it's now outclassed by Drake Canon for that role against things like the 5th Boss. Good news is that she can unlock Hachi exclusive shortcuts since it pierces armor, and it (+ frostcalibur) is still arguably the second best way to beat bosses despite the nerfs, so it's still very powerful. Voltaic Ray absolutely outclasses it even with frostcalibur.
  5. Magic Charm - The second most efficient sub in the entire game. Does great damage, puts enemies in hitlag, and even blocks low projectiles. It's slow and has pitiful range on the ground, but is overall strong nonetheless.

A Tier

  1. Drake Canon - Slaughters boss 5, slaughters every normal enemy (besides stage 7 mechs, but those die in 1-2 hits afterwards), is decent burst DPS against every boss besides 6, and can even be used as a second mid-air jump. That last part sounds innocuous, but can allow for multiple powers the be acquired that some other characters can't get, and is essential for Solo mode. Plus, it can allow for shortcuts to be taken that Robert and other characters aren't supposed to be able to access, and it can even theoretically clutch up as a last-resort double jump if you mess up platforming.
  2. Void Charm - Essentially a catch-all subweapon. It's only weakness (although it is a massive one) is that every route's final boss is basically immune to it. Every enemy and most other bosses dread it, however.
  3. Frostcalibur - Kills every unarmored enemy in one hit, can stunlock bosses to death with Axe, and can be used for platforming with sickle. It's heavily reliant on Drake Canon or Axe to beat bosses and is almost useless in a solo run, so it's too limited and situational for S Tier.

S Tier

  1. Devil Essence - Zangetsu's jump attack becomes the best source of targeted, inexpensive DPS in the game. It's only limit is it's range making it dangerous to use against bosses like Gremory and Beelzebub, and the fact you need to keep using it instead of having a one and done attack, but it's practically nuclear otherwise.
  2. Rapid Scarf - Beats almost every boss (besides the final one in the final episode and the 5th one), beats every normal enemy, and is less expensive than Drake Cannon despite hitting harder. Also unlimited range ftw.
  3. Resurrection Anthem - It can heal up to 56 HP and revive 6 characters if used correctly. It also costs 0 WP and essentially gives you as many as 6 more tries on any boss. It's slow, rare, and is almost useless on a solo run, but otherwise gamebreaking. If it could be used more than once, even if it cost ALL of your WP, it would be the best in the game. It's a lot weaker on legendary difficulty since you can't lose a single character, but if you spread your damage across everyone it still has a good use case.
  4. Flame Sphere - It's damage was nuked into the ground but it's utility remains intact. There's at least two or three ssections in every stage that become cakewalks with this, and legendary mode ghosts are a nightmare without it. It's a little expensive but still FAR more affordable over time than Invincible Iron. Both the Sarcophagus Boss and Gremory are also hard countered by this subweapon, to the point where this dude (https://youtu.be/u8-4aTJuJS8?si=yPkBHkfn55OmQbhJ&t=87m) beat Gremory with Solo Alfred, the worst solo character, in ONE TRY. Just have someone to handle other bosses and the game is essentially won. Outside solo runs it's absolutely game breaking. (Edit: I counted, and assuming we count clones as separate enemies since they appear in different stages and have slightly different behaviors, there are over SEVENTY enemies and hazards that Alfred checks, counters, or is straight up immune to with this, not even counting things like the boulders and possibly tail lasers [I need to test] from boss 5, the fire rain from boss 3, the ice spikes and enemy spawns from boss 4, the slam gas/projectiles/enemy spawners, from boss 2, the everything of boss 6, and Gremory's f$&#+ orbs.)

SS Tier

  1. Immortal Metamorphosis - Skips every platforming section. Also gets ~80% of all upgrades by itself. It's only limit is that Flame Wheel in acquirable in every run that Gebel is except solo, but that doesn't heal it's user, bypass strong enemies, and sometimes cheat death on hit, so this is still viable. Extremely niche in boss rush, but almost imperative everywhere else.
  2. Voltaic Ray - Skips every boss (outside solo runs), and bosses are (IMO) the hardest part of this game.
  3. Invincible Iron - Skips every platforming section AND boss!

Characters Ranked

C Tier

  1. Base Zangetsu - He can't collect a single power up on his own, he can't heal, he can't skip platforming sections, he doesn't have the good boss killers, his DPS options aren't always viable to use and are outclassed, his range is bad, he doesn't get bonus WP like Alfred, Gebel, or Hachi, and he doesn't have any platforming advantages or even good range, regardless of subweapon. He has solid fundamentals, but he's outclassed everywhere else.
  2. Robert - He's cool AF, but he literally doesn't have a single unique-to-him upgrade, and actually misses out on a lot of secrets (health and point bags) because he can't break walls. His range is amazing, but his damage and subweapon costs (minus the Scarf, and possibly Drake Cannon for upgrades) are the worst in the game. He's pretty good all around even in solo mode, but he's an honest character in a game where boss nukes, flight, invulnerability, and mass revival are things. An honest character in a dishonest game.

B Tier (interchangeable)

7/6. Upgraded Zangetsu - He's a walking nuke, and really hard to rank since he's the only character without anything resembling a solo mode dedicated to him (since the final episode and/or legendary difficulty sort of count for Ultimate Zangetsu). I feel he's still held back by his lack of versatility and upgrades, but he'd be A Tier if he could collect any of them. He hits harder than any other character (that isn't a secret bonus), but still has a hard time with things like platforming and bosses like stage 6's, episode 1's finale, the normal final episode final boss, and Gremory's hard version. He's the opposite of characters like Miram, Hachi, and Dominique: He has 1 trick, and that trick is killing everything that gets close to him. He is mostly bad at everything else.
6/7. Miriam - She's a genuinely good character all around, but she also suffers from "fair character" syndrome. She's arguably even stronger than she was in the first game, but this game isn't designed around her like the last one was, so she's worse off overall. Bosses take WAY more damage to kill in this game than in the first and her axe was actually nerfed in damage slightly. Furthermore, since this game requires a lot more upwards attacking in platforming areas for ghosts, frogs, hanging mouth spitters, floating head ceiling spawners, etc. she's going to be using a lot more WP on her upwards throwing dagger, which hurts her longevity and consistency. Everything near the end of every run also hits a decent bit harder, so her formerly "close 2nd best" HP isn't quite so insurmountable (or 2nd best) anymore. She also seems to suffer from subweapon limitations more than other characters, as she doesn't always get the necessary tools for the job (a good example being how you can't get the Axe in Level 1 even though it would help immensely against the boss due to armor piercing.) Despite ALL of this, she's still pretty good. She can't 1 cycle every boss, facetank everything, effortlessly beat platforming sections, or have the unique trait of infinite range (with subweapons) anymore, but she's still strong enough to get plenty of power ups for solo and final runs and is more than than strong enough to fall back on in group modes if a top tier dies.

A Tier

  1. Gebel - He gets all but 4 power ups on his own, self heals, and skips every platforming section. He's redundant with Alfred's fire shield and Hachi's invulnerability being nearly as good at platforming and he's the worst character in boss rush mode, but otherwise he has a strong role in just about every other mode; Especially the final episode - he is THE star character of that mode, since he collects almost every power up regardless of it being a group or solo run (the latter works because there is a trick that allows you to bring him to other stages without beating his stage and bringing him to the final level, allowing you to boost Zangetsu with many power ups that wouldn't otherwise be available.)
  2. Dominique - The game is designed around her. She has subweapons for every situation, and even if they're not always the best, she's also one of the few characters inherently strong enough to, with enough skill, handle every situation on her own - High jumps for good platforming, pogo for low enemies and niche shortcuts, an upwards attack for huge versatility, occasional self healing if necessary, and sub-weapons that boost any one of these traits on a whim. She's essentially a 7 in every situation, but she also has the completely unique ability to do a full party heal and resurrection, which is a 10/10 trait only she has. She has a use case in every mode, and a strong one at that. Her biggest downside is her solo damage/durability ceiling, but that's only a single mode and even then she's versatile enough to get by most situations and grab most power ups. She wouldn't likely be as powerful (relatively, since she'd be the same character) in the first game since it's not designed around her (with things like less characters to heal, no lanterns for resurrection anthem, not being able to slide, there being almost nothing to bounce off of or super jump to, lower solo damage against bosses, etc) - it's like a reverse Miriam situation.

S- Tier:

  1. Alfred - He essentially gets to choose between Hachi's invincibility for 1/10 the cost or skipping every single boss in the entire game. He's the worst character solo, but (IMO) top 2 everywhere else. If his subweapons didn't carry over to other characters he'd easily be the worst, but all you have to do is pop off a subweapon then switch to another character and suddenly any situation you have to deal with is solved. He'd be #1 if he could carry 2 subs at once even though he sucks solo, but his boss vs. platforming and bad solo mode inconsistencies keeps him from being a true top tier. Also pseudo-infinite WP ftw.

S+ Tier

  1. Hachi - A master of all trades. He has the best health, pierces enemy armor, the easiest (although less objectively good than Gebel and Ulti-getsu's) platforming, bonus WP from lanterns, he can get several power ups, squash low enemies, and has a get out of jail free card in every situation. His only weaknesses are his big hurtbox and his low attack speed(and by proxy DPS sorta), which aren't issues with patience and pattern knowledge. He's one of 2 characters that's good in every single game mode, regardless of difficulty or allies.

SS Tier

  1. Ultimate Zangetsu - He's the only character so strong that he doesn't even need subweapons, unlike Hachi, Gebel, and Alfred who are good specifically because of their subs. He has some of the best platforming, some of the best upgrade and shortcut access (high jump + long jump + armor piercing + floor smashing), the best speed, some of the best survivability (since he dodges better due to his dash, so it makes up for his lower health than Hachi, and he kills most things before they threaten him so he doesn't need invincibility), the best range, and the best damage. He's great solo because he's the strongest character and ridiculously versatile, he's great in main playthroughs because he's so strong without subs that other characters don't have to waste WP helping him, and he's even great in boss rush because his unrivaled mobility, range, and damage allow him to dodge stuff and hit almost every single boss in situations when nobody else even comes close. Even in the shoot em' up section of the final episode, he comes pre-packaged with the ability to get every other character's ship weapons. He is truly the Akuma of this game: De-centralized, high skill with high reward, extremely versatile, and purposefully overpowered.

2024.05.10 03:27 fanw1n Deck advice for ancient returning MTG player

TLDR; Looks like Grief/OBM flew a little too close to the sun. As a n00b with limited resources who likes mono-black scam and wants to get back into legacy, what are other (1) similarly competitve, (2) noob-friendly decks/archtypes for (3) <=$1k (i.e., no RL cards)?
Long-time lurker, first-time poster, perennial MTG noob. Please only minimal pitchfork-ing for my love of Grief.
I started playing MTG back in the late 90s and early 00s, casting Ravenous Rats off Dark Rituals and thinking Polar Kraken was a good card. I played for a few years and soon forgot all about MTG as my playgroup moved on (and away). During the pandemic I stumbled across some fantastic online legacy content on Youtube (obligatory shoutout to all the awesome content creators) and caught the bug. I am, however, neither good at this card game nor blessed with large quantities of assets that can be reasonably exchanged for cardboard. For this reason, I've been really excited to play mono-black scam: for ratio of cost-to-competitiveness, it seems to fare well in the current meta and simpletons like me can wrap my head around piloting the deck.
Unfortunately, there really don't seem to be many other options out there that meet these criteria. I've seen many variants of "which deck should I play"-type post but I'm hoping the collective wisdom of Reddit can help when there are explicit playability and cost constraints benchmarked to an existing noob-friendly shell. Are there any obvious choices for a deck that is:
  1. Cheap. Costs <=$1k. Preferably no RL cards (i.e., no duals). Before you ask: one day, if everything goes well and I wisely hoard my shillings, I will save up and buy some duals. But that day is not today and nor is it coming anytime soon.
  2. Playable (read: noob-friendly). Doesn't require large amounts of format knowledge to play well (this is what I've heard about mono W DnT) or any kind of combo (e.g., Oops! All Spells). I'm a filthy casual and I'm way too smooth-brained for combo.
  3. Competitive. It doesn't need to be winning big trophies but it would be great if it had one/two broken mechanics that help to even out the playing field in a format where the best decks cost megabucks. I just want something that's a modest 'good' and doesn't break the bank. It sucks to feel like you're trying to win the lottery when you come across an A-tier deck.
I understand there are concerns about format "health" due to broken mechanics like grief + reanimate but this is exactly what got me back into legacy: it was apparently good enough to work in a mono-colored aggro shell with basics! However, I've also only recently returned to MTG and and so I don't really know what else is out there. It strikes me not long ago 8-cast was both really good and affordable. Jeskai control also looks super cool, runs off mostly basics, and seems reasonably powered (but maybe hard to play?) Ninjas runs a lot of basics, seems cool. Some Dark Depths decks look deceptively cheap. Anyone still playing burn these days? Are there any other archtypes that match or exceed the power level of current mono-black scam at a similar cost and difficulty level?
Bonus points (i.e., my eternal gratitude) if you can point to a specific decklist on MTGGoldfish / Moxfield / etc to whet my appetite.
Thanks in advance!
-J
P.S. Since I'm guessing this will come up: despite my rediscovered love of the game I don't have much $ and so am definitely making choices in light of perceived WotC banlist moves. Please cut me some slack: I've only recently got back into MTG, on a very limited budget, and every other post on this subreddit has someone calling for Grief/OBM bans. The last thing I want is to be holding a playset of Griefs/OBMs after y'all kill one of the most noob-friendly decks in legacy... (It might even be warranted -- I have no idea! -- it's just a great starter deck for a complex and expensive format.)
P.P.S. Don't get me wrong: proxies are great. Love me some fake cardboard. But I get the larger point about needing to support an ecosystem with real cards. I would (ideally) like to buy into the community too!

2024.05.08 04:49 Smyris FAQ - GUIDES - REQUESTS READ BEFORE YOU POST

DO NOT POST CARDS UNTIL YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT A BLEED EDGE IS. SEE THE FAQ SECTION FOR INFO
IF YOU HAVE AN IDEA FOR A CARD AND WANT TO MAKE A REQUEST, PLEASE DO SO IN THE COMMENT SECTION OF THIS POST.

WELCOME TO MPCPROXIES!

We are a community dedicated to the creation and sharing of playtest cards (often called proxies) for Magic the Gathering. Have a look around and be sure to read the FAQ. If you just want to look at cards consider checking out MPCfill.com as it is a database containing most of the cards you'll find here and much more!

USEFUL LINKS

'Originally created by ChilliAxe and now rebuilt and remastered by u/mrteferi, mpcfill is a website for generating orders for use with card printing sites (we suggest makeplayingcards.com). Simply enter a list of cards and then select your art from a database of community works.
While it is in need of minor updates the core info is still excellent for those wanting to know how to make and print proxies. The info on *bleed edges** is particularly useful*
Love making cards in photoshop but hate the grindy repetition? Proxyshop will automate the boring parts so you can focus on the card. It is highly versatile and contains nearly every template there is (if you just want the templates they are available as a separate download)
  • Cardconjurer.com
A simple web-based tool to create cards. Many of the frames found there were made right here on this sub!
UPDATE: The tool has undergone an overhaul after a bit of a kerfuffle with wotc. So you will need some templates to replicate the old functionality. There are not a lot available at the moment so for now your best bet is to install this offline version of the tool. Below is a quick install guide courtesy of Investigamer from the Discord:
  1. Clone or download (Code > Download Zip) the Card Conjurer repo
  2. Extract the zip somewhere on your PC.
  3. In the new cardconjurer directory, run launcher.exe (or launcher-macos, launcher-linux for other operating systems). Card conjurer should open in your browser and you're good to go 👍
The site will be served at localhost:8080 until you hit CTRL+C in the command window that popped up. ALSO: If you've ever visited Card Conjurer before (on the live site or locally) you may need to hit CTRL + F5 to reload the cache for the site to work correctly."

FAQ

What is a playtest card?
First and foremost a playtest card is a card that is NOT designed for use in an official capacity. It is usually made to test something, such as a new mechanic or card type. In our community, we test new styles, artwork, and frames with existing cards. For example, we might make a playtest card exploring what a card from the alpha set would look like in a Kaldheim frame. Playtest cards are often confused with proxy cards, though the names have become more or less interchangeable it is important to note that actual proxy cards have an official use (to temporarily replace a damaged card during a competitive match) while playtest cards do not.
What the heck is a bleed edge?
MPC requires that images you send them for printing include an extra 1/8th of an inch on each edge. This accounts for the print bleed edge, and it’ll be cut off as part of the manufacturing process. More info on how to apply a bleed edge can be found in the wiki.
Can I use playtest cards when I play in MTG competitions?
No. It could potentially get you banned from future events. Some local stores may have different rules, however, that is something to discuss with them.
Can I use playtest cards when I play MTG with friends?
Yes! It is comparable to printing cards on paper and sleeving them over top of real cards. As with all things you should discuss this with your group first.
Do I need to buy playtest cards?
No. The WOTC fan content policy and our own rules are very clear on this. The cards we make here must, by their nature, be available for free. Anyone trying to sell you playtest or proxy cards, especially if they try to point you towards a proxy store, is trying to scam you./
It should be noted that some people make their own completely custom playtest cards and host them behind a paywall. This is different from a proxy store which often just lifts work from people on subs like this. Work from these individuals can't be found here unless it's been made avaliable for free.
How do I print playtest cards?
You can either use a printing service or print at home with the help of some basic supplies. Most of the guides and tools here are geared towards the printing service makeplayingcards.com.
There are dotted red lines on my card preview in MPC. Is this normal?
Yes! The red dotted line is completely normal. It only indicates areas that might get cut off in the event of a catastrophic printing error (you'd need a earthquake to cut that much off)
Here are some images showing what your MPC card preview SHOULD look like: Example 1, Example 2, Example 3.
I've followed the wiki, but which card stock should I choose?
There are more than a few options to choose from. Fortunately, u/VorstTank has your back with their excellent Card Stock Review. Don't want to read more? jump to the tl;dr. Don't even want to do that?.. but... fine... S33 or S27. There. Happy? Good.
Is there an easy way to put together a printing set?
Yes! MPCfill.com is a tool for generating orders. Simply enter a card list and mpcfill will show you a list of available playtest options for said cards, options found on mpcfill are indexed from community members' google drives. In this way, mpcfill also acts as the most comprehensive and up-to-date database of community cards. (Despite this, not everyone has their cards available on mpcfill so it is also recommended you browse the subreddit and discords)
Can I make a playtest card?
Absolutely! We are always happy to see new creators join the fold. Thanks to the efforts of various community members the tools to us have expanded greatly and it is now possible to create fantastic-looking cards in seconds! Check out the guides and templates sections for more information.[As the guides section is under construction I will start by pointing you towards the templates section if you know photoshop and towards cardconjurer.com if you do not]

2024.05.05 23:11 BellBilly32 Best Way to Build The Wise Mothman?

I've been working on a Mothman Brew seen here and I'm curious how others have built their Mothman decks.
I am having a problem because the deck goes two directions, Milling and counters. And I think I have a hard time balancing which one to focus on while also still getting the right amount of removal, ramp and card draw.
Just curious how people have built their decks, and if you've had success. What wincons do you go for? Because all I can think of is Breach the Multiverse and Rise of the Dark Realms which I know is boring.
Also curious, I kept the original precon cards in the side board as cuts. So seeing if there are any cards I cut that y'all see a big time players in the deck.
I just want the deck to be consistent, I love seeing my decks synergize where I don't need one specific card to win.
I'll go over my playgroup below
Power Level 7-8? I play with friends, proxies like crazy. They do a lot of fast mana and tutoring. I don't care to match because I'm a lot more involved with my decklists (they just find decks, and print them without really looking) and have had no problems with the power levels of my decks. This Burakos deck is a good general idea of the power level I keep my decks at.
I don't want the deck to be oppressive because I built a Yuriko deck that was like that (24 lands, lot of fast mana, a Thassa combo, lot of free counter spells) and I just felt bad playing it. Actually nerfed the deck back to being a more ninja tribal type.
My friend group consists of one guy who's played Magic longer than all of us. Lots of comboey stuff, does go infinite sometimes. He's won a few games doing Thassa shenanigans. Another friend in the group just prints expensive decks and uses them. He plays Prosper with a lot of fast mana and tutors, Adrix Nev also fast mana and a lot token doublers, and an Atraxa poison proliferate deck. Last friend is probably the chillest of the bunch. He plays the Timey Wimey Dr. Who precon, still plays his Faldron pre-con, and has a Braids and Syr Ginger deck. He's the guy who wins because he gets ignored all game.

2024.05.02 03:12 DatboyClicka Looking for modern "hidden gems."

Anytime someone posts "modern anime is shite" the usual response is that theres just a lot more anime to filter through with a lot more good anime. I reach out to you all to help me find those shining jewels.
Im looking for more mature anime that arent isekai, shounen, or power fantasies. I enjoy anime with a deep plot, interesting art style, and/or flushed out characters
Some modern shows that I've already watched and enjoy: AOT, Vinland Saga, Trigun Stampede, Golden Kamuy, Heavenly Delusion, Under Ninja.
Some of my favorite "classic" anime: Ergo Proxy, Cowboy Bebob, Paranoia Agent, Serial Experiments Lain, Tatami Galaxy, Mushishi, Evangelion, Monster.

2024.04.29 11:26 FourADayIsMyGoal Why do hexblast tricksters use 3 curses?

I've been playing power charge stacking hexblast trickster for a few days and it's going well but I have noticed that a lot of builds on poe.ninja use an ele weakness/frostbite on hit ring, profane proxy with ele weakness/frostbite in it and a self-cast despair but none of these builds can use 3 curses as far as I can tell.
What is the self-cast despair used for? Does the profane proxy/curse on hit not always override it?

https://drive.google.com/drive/folde...nY?usp=sharing
Hardware upgrades
Noctua NF-A4x10 FLX cooling fans ~ $40
Thermal Grizzly Minus 8 thermal pad ~ $45
GPIO Upgrade for Wet dock plate ~ $N/A
Ethernet
This guide is from “The digital parade” and should work for both F35, and F23.
To access the F35's menu system via a computer over an Ethernet cable you first need to define or find out your laptop's IP address. On a Mac, since that's what I use, open up "System Preferences" and click on "Network". Open up your Ethernet preferences and note or write in your IP address.
Then open up the F35's main menu system by holding down the click-wheel and pressing the VF Menu / Display button. Open the "Network" menu and choose "IP Addr Set". You need to enter in your computer's IP address here with an additional numerical step. For example, if your laptop's IP address is 192.168.0.1 you should enter 192.168.0.2 as the F35's IP address.
Now comes the fun part. Connect a cross-over Ethernet cable from your computer to the camera and open up your web browser. This will work with Internet explorer 6 or 7, Firefox 3, and Safari 3. In your browser's address bar type in http:// plus the IP address you entered into the camera. In our example above, you would enter http://192.168.0.2 and hit enter. Now, behold, the almighty awesomeness of navigating the menu from your laptop!
Misc Information
Side panel power
The F35 can be powered using the IF box XLR input, or the 8 pin Lemo B input on the body. However the side panel, where you have the 24v Fischer, and the 11-pin lemo 12v, can *ONLY* be powered if you are using the 11-pin lemo for power.
Most existing cable makers does not offer LEMO-B nor 11-pin lemo cables. However several ones that have been working in the film business for +20 years do still stock the needed supplies to make a cable.

2024.04.26 03:46 7Ve7Ks5 Review: Honest Un-affiliated Review Of Several Bootleg Sites

Review:
1) mtg-print.com
2) printingproxies.com
3) mtgproxy.com
4) https://www.mtg-proxies-cards.com/

The first 3 of the list are almost certainly coming from the same place. Also, due to how fast the shipment arrived, they are most likely in the USA.
  1. These proxies are not being printed with an off-set printer. The quality is such that it looks like a decent laser or ink jet printer. Do not expect the same contrast / hue / darkness / brightness of the original cards.
  2. You will not get an official MTG logo backing card. There are several options none of which look like the real card back.
  3. They clearly weigh less, and while are stated to use black-german core card stock you can clearly tell the difference between the a real card and these proxies just based on how they feel with your eyes closed
  4. you can sleeve them, but you have to double sleeve them to how 'thin' they feel
  5. these are not 'passable' proxy cards by any means but are some of the cheapest available
  6. Attempting a bend test is a sure fire way to ruin these cards permanently
  7. Won't pass the 'Red L' test on the Green Mana symbol on the back of the card. I haven't found any proxies that pass this test though.
  8. The one benefit which is a by-product of this individual / team not using an off-set printer is they can print just about ANY card and ANY version, and don't have 'stock' limitations or 'out of stock' of any particular card (usually)

The last one on the list:
  1. seems to use an off-set printer
  2. the image quality is very good and next to a real card, would pass at first glance
  3. they use the real MTG card back, so that next to a real card, at first glance
  4. they feel like they are using better card stock than the vendors above
  5. probably don't have to double sleeve them
  6. while they could possibly pass a bend test I wouldn't try, but much better chances.
  7. Won't pass the 'Red L' test on the Green Mana symbol on the back of the card. I haven't found any proxies that pass this test though.
  8. Not all cards from all sets in stock. True of most sites that use off-set printers

overall final thoughts:
The first group of sites are great if you just want bulk cheap approximations for testing. They wouldn't work at an FNM event but just fine for kitchen table kind of stuff. The last site listed could pass at FNM but I wouldn't risk it. These ones a great for testing, general play, and play groups.
A few years ago I bought proxies from either proxy king or proxy ninja. These are the most expensive of all proxies I have seen recently, but If I remember correctly these are VERY close to the real thing. They wouldn't pass the 'Red L' test on the Green Mana symbol, but I feel confident they would pass 1 bend test. As with most things in life, you get what you pay for.
I hope this helps!
Note: It occurred to me when creating this post the way to tell the quality of a lot of sites is if they claim they can print any card and always can print every card and ship them fast. This is usually indicative of NOT using an off-set printer, which means some ink jet or laser jet printer, which also means lower quality over all. If a site has a lot of cards you want and they are out of stock, it might be worth the wait until they are back in stock. Let me know if I am wrong on this point.

2024.04.17 18:09 lieutenantcigarette Our experience switching to Ninja RMM after 5 years of Datto RMM

I see a lot of posts here asking about this RMM vs that RMM, so in case anyone ever finds it useful I thought I'd put together an unbiased and detailed comparison of our experience with Datto RMM (5+ years) vs Ninja RMM (3 months). TL;DR: We miss Datto RMM, Ninja has some benefits and we don't hate it enough to switch back (yet) but some of the big problems with Ninja are easy for them to fix and its such a shame they haven't.
For context (skip if you don't care): we're a smaller MSP at 9 staff, 1.5k endpoints and coming up to 7 years old. Most of our clients are small businesses probably averaging around 50 staff (many smaller, but a few larger ones that bring up the average). We lean heavily on our RMM for scripting and automation and I'm the most responsible for everything that goes on in our RMM so a lot of this will be written from the perspective of a tech rather than just an MSP owner. I won't really touch on support/cost per seat as in our experience they're very comparable and neither wins out.
Why we switched from Datto RMM to Ninja: Honestly we liked Datto RMM as a product overall and didn't have major reasons to switch, but we had recently took the plunge and switched from Autotask to Halo PSA, and our 3yr contract with Datto RMM was coming up for renewal, so the decision to switch really came down to not wanting to be tied to Kaseya anymore and we'd heard a lot of good things about Ninja so I guess we had a bit of FOMO. We figured changing RMM's would be easier than changing PSA's and since Ninja have no long term contracts we could always switch back, so the risk was relatively low. A small reason was Datto RMM are slowly phasing out their old web UI in favour of the new one which we don't prefer, but that didn't massively factor into our decision.
Lets start with the Positives of Ninja compared to Datto RMM:
  1. Web UI is fast and fluid - everything feels instant, whereas Datto could sometimes feel a bit sluggish depending on what you were trying to do.
  2. No agent required - All of the remote tools (Command prompt/PowerShell, task manager, file browser, services etc.) are entirely in the browser so you don't need a Windows agent installed, big plus.
  3. Ninja remote is excellent - I was initially sceptical that a home grown remote control app could contend with an established giant like Splashtop but it's fast, responsive and clipboard syncing works like a dream. Ninja's available remote control options are a bit confusing on their website, but we have Splashtop enabled across the board as well for no extra cost and its nice to have that serve as a backup method should Ninja remote ever not work.
  4. Scripts are ran instantly - Whenever you run a script on a device (in Datto terms a "quick job") you see the script is executed there and then, whereas with Datto it usually takes 30-60 seconds at least before you get any indication of it starting.
  5. You can easily run Command Prompt/Powershell remotely as the current logged in user (unlike Datto which runs in the System context unless you create a full fat job)
  6. Better support for customer sites/locations (In Ninja each organisation can have different locations, in Datto we had to create one site for each customer location)
  7. Has optional end customer access with granular permissions, if you're into that.
  8. Has a mobile app, which is nice as an MSP Owner needing to do something at an ungodly hour
  9. Monthly rolling contract - Such a shame this is a pro in this day and age but it has to be commended that Ninja defaults to monthly contracts with no shady lock-in practices.
And here's what we miss about Datto RMM:
  1. Custom Filters - To be clear, Ninja does have custom filters, but in comparison Datto wins hands down. We heavily use custom filters for quickly finding devices that meet your criteria and also dynamically targeting devices for specific automations. You want a filter that shows you all devices with an AMD GPU & has a graphics driver below this version? Would probably take me 30 seconds in Datto RMM. The same thing in Ninja? Bear with, let me just write a custom PowerShell script that writes what I'm looking for to a custom field, wait for it to execute on every endpoint we manage and then I can create a filter that shows you the devices you want... you'll just have to manually check all the devices that haven't been online in the last 4 hours, but its only 576 of them so no sweat.
  2. Column Layouts are per session - This one sounds minor but is incredibly frustrating, unlike most of our techs I frequently access Ninja from different devices (Home PC, Work PC, Laptop) and it turns out that any preferences you set in Ninja's web UI, such as the visibility and layout of columns when looking at devices, are saved in a browser cookie and not stored on Ninja's end? This is archaic to me but it means that any columns I adjust aren't reflected anywhere else I log in, and they're even reset to default on the same PC if I flush my browser data.
  3. Thumbnails & Screenshots - I feel like this one might be controversial and we probably didn't use it as it was intended, but this was so useful to determine things like "Is this user at their desk/working before try and call them?" & "Am I about to remote onto the correct device?" and the fact Ninja has nothing similar is a shame.
  4. Live Chat - It turns out we relied on this more than we thought before we switched to Ninja, being able to initiate a live chat to any endpoint came in incredibly handy for saving time versus trying to get hold of difficult to reach end users over the phone to find out if now is a good time to remote on and look at their issue. Ninja does have live chat, but only once you've used Ninja Remote to connect to a device, so for us it's largely useless. This is a shame as they've clearly gone to the effort of building it but haven't thought to make it work for perhaps the most frequent use case.
  5. Proxying - Since a lot of our smaller clients have no need for on-premise servers or a VPN we occasionally had a need to use Datto's proxy feature to access something on their network, like a NAS, Switch or Printer. For those unfamiliar, this feature allows you to use any endpoint as a temporary proxy so you could navigate to the web UI of an appliance on a clients network through their machine, all without having to bother the end user at all. Ninja doesn't have anything similar, so if we need to adjust some NAS backup settings or change a setting on a printer for one of these clients, we need to commandeer a users device to do it.
  6. Installer URL generation - A bit of an annoyance to me personally as the one responsible for deploying Ninja, the agent installer URL’s change frequently when a new update lands. I understand that agent installers need updating and old ones do need invalidating for security reasons, but for the life of me I can’t think of a good reason that the URL changes between versions? Datto handles this better in my opinion as the only unique identifier in the installer URL is the organisation ID. Datto can update the agent in the backend as many times as they want/invalidate the old ones but we don’t need to update any of our deployment scripts as the URL remains the same.
  7. Downtime notifications - As all MSP's should we have a monitoring condition that alerts us if a server is offline, but of course there are times when servers are expected to be down, such as automated patching and scheduled reboots. Conveniently, Datto allowed us to schedule recurring maintenance windows for servers as granular as we needed so we don't get bombarded with alerts but Ninja has no such feature.
  8. Linux ARM support - we have a fair amount of Raspberry Pi's in the wild for things like digital signage, wallboards and KPI displays. We don't need to connect to these very often but Datto supported these natively, Ninja doesn't support ARM devices currently so again we need to commandeer an end users device or access it through a VPN/Server. I believe this is in beta, but its been promised for ages.
So to summarise, we don't necessarily have buyers remorse and we picked up on most of these "issues" during our trial of Ninja but decided to proceed anyway to take advantage of the benefits, but knowing what I know now if I went back in time I probably wouldn't leave Datto RMM. It's good to see that there is a roadmap with Ninja and features are in active development, but I don't judge tools based on what features are promised and I don't think we've seen any major features deployed since we've been using Ninja. I think what makes some of these issues particularly frustrating is how simple they are to fix, for example the column layouts not being saved Ninja's side and the installer URL's changing would probably take a competent dev a few days to change and push through CI/CD? Maybe a couple of weeks for testing before gradual rollout?
I'd be interested to hear any other comparative views, Ninja is of course a less mature product than Datto RMM but its hardly a newcomer at this point so I hope I'm not being too critical of it. Anyway, I hope our experience might help someone who's deciding between the two.

InvoiceNinja & NGINX Reverse Proxy?
I have setup nginx proxy manager and i've been trying to get SSL working for an application (InvoiceNinja) but for some reason it times out every time. I have an A name record though GoDaddy pointing toward my IP (billing.mydomain.net). I have added a proxy host with that A name record and it is forwarding towards my application on port 8035. I have an SSL cert with "Force SSL" checked. After I press save it says its online and ready to go but I go to the https and it times out. I have forwarded all ports that are required for Nginx (443,80). When I have it set to HTTP only (no ssl) it works perfectly. but the second I send it public it falls apart.

\"REQUIRE_HTTPS=false\" I have turned this on and off and it makes no difference
I have looked all over the forums of invoice ninja which tell me to have TRUSTED_PROXIES set at "*" and have https in the APP_URL. This is all running through docker compose, so that may have something to do with it, i'm not sure.
I would love to figure this out if anyone knows anything!

2024.04.04 21:18 sbourwest "PiRaTeD SoFtWaRe Is HoW YoU GeT ViRuSeS" - The truth behind internet scare tactics.

In these modern times, if you aren't caving to scare tactics you're considered irresponsible, negligent, and "just asking for trouble". So many businesses have built an entire predatory market upon people's fear. Even targeting those who typically don't pay for digital products or services are prime targets for advertisers selling VPNs and Identity Theft protection.
For as long as the public internet has been around, horror stories of things like system-destroying viruses, identity theft, hacked accounts, and Big Brother spying on you have circulated adding just another big topping of fearmongering to feed an already overly-scared populous.
These same scare tactics have often been applied to piracy as well in an effort by big business to deter you from the practice, or to sell you software and services designed to "help protect you." It must be important to do this right? After all everyone knows someone who had to go through hell because of some virus, some scam, or some hacker who wrecked havoc with their accounts.
What about the silent majority? What about the people who have never installed an antivirus and yet never had a debilitating system crash? What about the millions who have never paid for a VPN who haven't had their doors kicked in by FBI agents and Disney ninjas hurling affidavits like throwing stars? More importantly, what about all those "ARR, PIRATES!" who download movies, shows, books, games, and software who get... better products than the "legit" distributors who sell them? I find waaay more topics online from people commenting about how anti-theft software (which doesn't work) makes their life annoying than I've seen people complaining that a pirated piece of media contained something malicious. Of course nobody makes viral posts or threads when everything is just working perfectly.
Now I'm not trying to downplay real threats, there are of course plenty of viruses, spyware, adware, and scams out there designed to ruin your day. You don't walk through a lion's den with a bunch of raw meat hanging off your clothes and not be a little worried right? Well first of all, why are you wearing meat clothes, and secondly why are you in the damn lion's den?
Instead of advocating for VPNs, encrypted tunnels, proxies, TOR browsers, IP Block Lists, Anti-virus, Anti-malware, Firewalls, Identity Insurance, Two-factor Authenticators, and all these petty "illusion of safety" suites, the most important and vital aspect that should be taught, not only to would-be pirates, but all those who routinely use the internet is basic internet literacy. That Chinese storefront you've never heard of might not be the best custodians of your credit card data. That 7KB Executable file is probably not the full feature length film you're looking for. Maybe you should vet the legitimacy of a source by the experience of other internet users leaving reviews/comments, and not in a "glowing testimonials" highlight reel on the main page.
I'm not trying to say all security software or service is bad, it's just a tool, but like any tool if you don't know what you need or what you're getting yourself into, you're just piling up a huge toolbox full of mostly useless items that aren't actually benefiting you other than perceived "peace of mind". Should you really be buying car parts and tools to fix a car if you have no mechanical knowledge about cars at all? You might want to learn first what you're doing, then second decide what you actually need.
Do we really need to feed these millions-of-dollar predatory cybersecurity firms for the entirety of our adult lives just to avoid a simple phone-call to say "hey, my account got stolen, let's verify my info so I can get it back"?
Is throwing your hard earned money at a bunch of safety suites truly worth not having to learn the basics of how things work? I'm not saying you need to take a 12 week class on how to do advanced programming, internet literacy is not that hard, but we don't advocate for it enough because... well there's no money in that.

2024.04.04 09:49 dai_webb 3rd party patches failing to install using NinjaRMM

Hello.
We have recently rolled out NinjaRMM across our endpoints and have seen a lot of failures to install 3rd party patches (things like FileZilla, Notepad++, WebEx, Chrome, etc).
I've already overcome a few issues (we're behind Sophos SG firewalls, and by default all web traffic is blocked, unless proxied, so I've unblocked thousands of Amazon IP addresses). I've also added the URLs to the exclusions for web filtering. These are the hosts I've used:

Now, in the logs, I'm seeing HTTP 401 errors. As the log is really verbose, and consists of thousands of lines, here's what stands out:

2024.04.04 01:00 bubblesnout Track Naming settings revert after container restart

Have just got Lidarr set up and having a weird problem where the Media Management > Track Naming settings revert to default when I stop and then start the container. Really strange. The container clearly has read/write access to the lidarr.db file (and the whole config folder).
Other stuff seems to stick, if I change the monitored status of an artist or album for example this will be retained after restarting the container as expected.
I'm running on a Synology NAS, the PUID is the owner with full access rights of the /volume1/dockelidarr directory and all subdirectories
Issue occurs regardless of whether the settings are changed via my reverse proxy (https://lidarr.domain.tld) or directly (http://192.168.0.1:8686).
config.xml:
 * 8686 6868 False True 23ee419801784ef2b0bf843130d1c221 Forms Enabled master info Lidarr Docker
docker-compose.yml
version: "2" services: lidarr: image: linuxservelidarr:latest container_name: lidarr environment: - PUID=1064 - PGID=100 - TZ=Australia/Melbourne volumes: - /volume1/dockelidarconfig:/config - /volume1/dockelidarcustom-cont-init.d:/custom-cont-init.d - /volume1/dockelidarcustom-services.d:/custom-services.d - /volume1/media/downloads:/downloads - /volume1/media/music:/music ports: - 8686:8686 restart: unless-stopped network_mode: bridge
Worth noting that I don't have any indexers or download clients configured, all of my downloading is done from Deezer via the extended scripts (https://github.com/RandomNinjaAtk/arr-scripts/tree/main/lidarr), can't imagine this is relevant to the issue but you never know.
EDIT: I've tried making the desired changes then just shutting down the container and looking in to the lidarr.db database with a SQLite browser. I can actually see that my changes are indeed committed to the database, so it would seem something with the startup process of the container is causing it to revert to defaults. Still at a complete loss from here.

2024.04.02 16:37 Standard_Ad_8016 Ninjutsu

I have a question about ninjutsu ,so if I use the ability and swap 3 ninjas in and out do all 3 do damage? Or just the last one? I'm trying to help a friend understand a proxy deck he bought online and I would also like to play ninjas in the future so some clarification would be great!!!
