I work at a grocery store in TN, nd my location feels a bit like the red headed step child. Alot of stuff is broken in dangerous ways
In 2022 a ceiling tile collapsed on the sales floor. In 2023 another 3 ceiling tiles collapsed in the back computer room, directly onto the computer and the chair infront of it (thankfully noone was there). Again in 2023 a tile fell in the break room. Those spots still aren't fixed.
There's one I've been telling them is freaking me out for some time directly above my work station. They repeatedly blew me off. I didnt have the choice to work elsewhere as my equipment is attached to the wall.
Well as luck would have it. Last week the tile fell as I was standing there. It gave me a black eye, bloodied my lip, chipped my tooth, and caused my hand to get cut open and need stitches.
I can also, name atleast 5 other spots where the tiles look like they're also about to collapse down even after this.
They're trying to argue against any workman's comp or covering any medical bills solely because I knew it was there and therefore I should've been able to avoid this happening.

I’m so sick of these new app updates. TikTok gives me an ad between every like 10 videos, and they make it so easy for me to ‘accidentally’ swipe into their shop, which feels a lot like temu. And it feels like I’m always pressured into buying something.
TikTok is nothing like it was in the musical.ly days. Now it feels very money focused. They purposely want us to doom scroll with how they set up feed algorithms. With TikTok shop, it is only easier for people to spend money. TikTok makes 6% off each sale, soon it will rise to 8%.
I’m sure all this influencing also leads to waste from companies like Shein. Some influencers only wear the items they get once to promote it, then throw it away. 2,000 gallons of water are used to make one pair of jeans. That is enough for someone to drink for 7 years, and 11 pairs of jeans is basically someone's whole life!
Legislation should be introduced to require online sellers everywhere to disclose resource info. Examples could include how much CO2 is emitted to ship an item, or how much water is required to produce an item (like jeans). Alcoholic beverages and tobacco products are required to list warnings. Mexico also has warnings on food that is considered unhealthy. Maybe this will make people think twice.
If congress is willing to ban TikTok over data concerns, they can certainly do something about this. Adding regulations is not as extreme as banning the app completely, like they want to do.
According to a poll from YouGov, 57% of Americans support regulation. So, I think a lot of people would like it, would you all? Illinois also passed a bill that urges the federal government to protect children from addictive apps. This shows my ambitions aren’t completely crazy.
A great new feature I thought of would be one where we can set preferences in our settings. Some examples could be “Content where people in swim/gym wear may be present”, “Content where dieting may be discussed”, or “Content where enhancing filters may be used”. This option would allow users to be less susceptible to potentially harmful posts.
If unchecked, these problems will only continue to worsen. Self-image and overconsumption are already leading to larger issues, like decreased socialization and climate change.

Hemp drinks are big business in the United States and poised to grow even bigger. Thanks to the 2018 U.S. Farm Bill, hemp-based products are at least quasi-legal across the United States – and, unlike marijuana, they’re shippable across state lines.
Companies big and small are betting on hemp-derived drinks becoming the next big thing for health-conscious, smoke-wary consumers.
Bernuth’s Pharos Brands was one of 30 hemp-derived THC beverage companies at the Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America’s January expo at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
According to the Hemp Beverage Alliance, hemp drink companies took up as much as 10% of the floor.
“We’re killing it here,” Bernuth told MJBizMagazine from the bustling convention hall.
Things went so well that she’s banking on contributing to a movement as well as running a successful business.
“We want to mainstream this,” she said. “We feel hemp beverages are an essential piece of destigmatizing THC.”
But when the first can of Pharos seltzer is sold in stores this spring with 2.5 milligrams of hemp-sourced THC, it won’t be sold in Montana, where Bernuth lives and where Pharos is produced.
That’s because Montana law requires any end product with more than 0.3% THC to be sold at a state-licensed marijuana dispensary.
Such rules don’t exist on the other side of the Dakotas in Minnesota, where a 2022 state law specifically allows products with low doses of hemp-derived THC to be sold through mainstream retail outlets such as supermarkets and convenience stores.
In a familiar theme, states around the country offer similar patchworks of conflicting rules.
At least, that’s the case for now.
The federal law that has allowed a hemp-derived product market worth billions to emerge almost overnight could soon change – and dramatically.
Intoxicating hemp market From drinks to gummies or smokable flower, the country’s appetite for psychoactive products sourced from hemp is enormous.
And what economist Beau Whitney estimates “conservatively” as a $28.4 billion market barely existed before the 2018 Farm Bill accidentally legalized it.
That Farm Bill, which legalized the production of hemp across the United States, was intended to be a boon for long-suffering producers of low-THC cannabis intended to be spun into fabric, pressed into oil for fuel or processed into health foods.
Hemp is also a source of CBD, or cannabidiol, which can be converted into psychoactive delta-8 THC, hence the boom in delta-8-infused products.
The latest evolution is hemp-derived delta-9 THC.
Operators with enough hemp also could extract sufficient delta-9 THC to produce and ship gummies and other infused products that are functionally identical to state-regulated marijuana across the U.S.
It’s conventional wisdom that federal lawmakers did not intend to create this new market when they legalized hemp production nationwide with the 2018 Farm Bill.
Since then, businesses including Pharos have existed in a state of uncertainty that some argue is – if you can believe it – even more confusing than the regulated marijuana industry.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has publicly declared that hemp-derived THC has “serious health risks,” and the Drug Enforcement Administration has hinted it doesn’t consider certain hemp extracts legal.
However, federal regulators have so far taken limited enforcement action. Only companies selling products marketed with unproven medical claims or marketed with packaging similar to mainstream snack or beverage brands have drawn negative attention – and then usually nothing more serious than a cease-and-desist letter.
But it’s also understood this uneasy status quo is temporary.
Depending on when Congress passes the next Farm Bill – and exactly what’s in it – the ground could shift under Bernuth’s business and the hemp-derived cannabinoid sector yet again.
The problem is, nobody knows when that might be – nor what will come next.
“Overall, the federal government is quite unpredictable,” said Michelle Bodian, the New York-based co-chair of the Vicente law firm’s Hemp and Cannabinoids Department as well as the Hemp Beverage Alliance’s general counsel.
“The longer things drag out, the more opportunity there is for issues to come to the forefront,” she added.
“It’s obviously hard to predict where those issues are going to land – in hemp’s favor or against.”
Farm Bill provisions One of the biggest and most complex measures that Congress produces, the Farm Bill is an $867 billion behemoth that covers corn subsidies, food stamps, conservation projects and, now, CBD, delta-8 THC and delta-9 THC extracted from hemp.
In theory, Congress must renew the Farm Bill every five years, when the spending allowances run out.
The 2018 Farm Bill’s provisions started running out at the end of September 2023, when Congress gave itself the first in a series of extensions.
Promises that a draft Farm Bill would soon emerge followed the first extension, but as of early February, there was still no draft bill and no timeline for when proposals would appear.
Put another way: It remains an open question whether the 118th Congress will pass a Farm Bill in 2024 at all.
If and when a new Farm Bill passes, it’s also unclear whether lawmakers will choose to wrestle with the hemp-derived cannabinoid market they accidentally unleased.
Farm Bill timeline Neither the U.S. Senate agriculture committee, chaired by Michigan Democrat Debbie Stabenow and Arkansas Republican John Boozman, nor their colleagues in the House Committee on Agriculture, chaired by Pennsylvania Republican Rep. Glenn “GT” Thompson, responded to MJBizMagazine’s requests for comment.
In January, Thompson expressed hope that he’d be able to draft a bill and pass it through his committee in March, an optimistic timeline that hemp lobbyists considered unrealistic at press time.
Some influential lawmakers, such as Oklahoma Republican Rep. Frank Lucas, believed to be the only “active farmer” in Congress, say that Congress will absolutely pass a Farm Bill in 2024 – and that it won’t be a major departure from the 2018 version.
That is what the American Trade Association of Cannabis and Hemp is banking on, said Chris Lindsey, the group’s director of state advocacy and public policy.
“This is more about clarifying what Congress did than it is about going in and changing the laws and creating some new regulatory framework,” Lindsey told MJBizMagazine.
But with Congress still fumbling basic tasks such as a long-term federal budget, other observers are planning for 2024 to turn into 2025 with no new Farm Bill in sight.
“I wouldn’t say I’m confident (for a 2024 passage). I’m hopeful,” said Jonathan Miller, co-founder and general counsel for the U.S. Hemp Roundtable, which lobbies federal lawmakers and counts among its members prominent cannabis companies including Cronos Group and Curaleaf Holdings.
Miller believes the best window to pass a Farm Bill is the lame-duck session between the November 2024 general election and January 2025, when the next Congress – and, potentially, next president – is inaugurated.
That tiny window could, of course, slam shut depending on the election’s outcome.
Regardless of when, there’s “no consensus” for what federal lawmakers want to do, Miller said.
Hemp in the Farm Bill Most industry observers believe that Congress will seriously consider redefining what qualifies as “hemp.”
A legal definition rather than a botanical one, hemp currently refers to cannabis sativa plants with 0.3% THC or less by dry weight.
There appears to be support for raising the THC limit to 1% – a proposition that appeared in stand-alone legislation proposed in 2022 by U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree of Maine.
But what about regulating CBD, which the FDA has been on notice to do for years?
And what about clarifying the federal legality of hemp-derived THC and the alphabet soup of THC derivatives that have appeared?
It seems as if the status of hemp-derived cannabinoids is anyone’s guess, though it is likely that federal lawmakers will be reluctant to interfere with state regulations.
That would be just fine for companies in places such as Kentucky and Texas, where the lack of regulated medical marijuana programs creates intense demand for a viable alternative.
The hemp market is booming under loose rules that nonetheless call for basic guardrails such as age restrictions and product-safety guarantees.
Lack of action won’t be welcome news to companies such as those trying to operate in Arkansas, where a strict ban on hemp-derived competitors to a fledging medical marijuana industry is being challenged in federal court.
As for Bernuth, she knows at least two things to be true: Hemp-derived THC is too big for the federal government to kill off entirely, and the market needs regulations such as age verification and product-safety standards.
If that means Pharos needs a unique product label to comply with laws in every state where Bernuth wants to distribute the product, she is willing to do that.
And if the rules change even more, she’s willing to adapt.
“Every business has to be flexible, so we’re definitely being as flexible as possible,” Bernuth said.
For now, the opportunity presented by hemp-derived cannabinoid drinks is too sweet to pass up.

Hello. I am located in Ontario, and a few months back I purchased a licensed product from an online storefront. The product is created by a 1st party, purchased by myself as the 2nd party, distributed by a 3rd Party, and sold by the 4th party storefront. At least I think I got that right. Basically, someone made it, someone distributed it, and someone sold it, but as the client who received it I *think* that makes me the 2nd party?
A new requirement has been instituted; In order to use said license I must create an account with the 3rd party distributors. I have concerns about said account, as it was originally neither required, nor mentioned that it would be required in order to use the license. I used the product for approximately a month, before turning my attention to other matters. I had originally intended to come back to using this product long term once they added certain digital features I was waiting for, which were confirmed to be coming.
This product is intended to be a lifetime license which only revokes access to its features if you break the EULA. However, as of this latest change. All access to the license will be revoked if you do not create the 3rd party account. I had known that this specific 3rd party was involved, but I was not worried as they were only involved in distribution at the time of sale.
I now no longer want to use this product anyways, as I have lost my trust in the creators of the product for not making this requirement known in advance, and implementing it after return windows expire. On top of this, there are security concerns involved, and the 3rd party in question has a history of not being secure.
I've done just enough reading to figure out that this is thoroughly confusing, depends on jurisdiction, and is a rapidly evolving context. Recently in Canada, it's my understanding that various things have been declared against public interest in various courts around the country, such as anti-tamper stickers, class action waivers, and the like.
What I'd like to have some help parsing, is whether or not it is legally binding for the third party to input a "we can alter the deal" clause in the EULA. I cannot directly quote the EULA as it would contain blatantly identifying information. It effectively says the following.
"You agree to this by using the licensed product. We can revise this EULA at any time, and the onus is on you to periodically check back and see what we changed. Some of these clauses, including this one, and the one about not joining class action lawsuits, remain binding even after the termination of the contract."
I'm aware of some things in Ontarian law, specifically, which prevent a company from simply changing the way a service is rendered in such a manner that might cause the client to re-evaluate their continued receipt of the service, without being able to prove that they have the consent of the client.
"(4) If a consumer is receiving goods or services on an ongoing or periodic basis and there is a material change in such goods or services, the goods or services shall be deemed to be unsolicited from the time of the material change forward unless the supplier is able to establish that the consumer consented to the material change." 2002, c. 30, Sched. A, s. 13 (4).
I'm also aware that, as far as I can tell, Canadian/Ontarian law requires that a business/seller can prove that they made reasonable effort to inform a client of any changes to a TOS/EULA/Contract. However I'm not sure what recourse there is for single-purchase lifetime usage contracts. In this case, I've purchased a product from a 4th party shop, but the 3rd party distributor is now requiring the creation and usage of an account with them, otherwise my product will become inactive and unusable.
In cases like this, is it reasonable to request a refund from the 4th party where you purchased it, or even to attempt to join any upcoming class action suits? As it stands I am currently outside the bounds of the 4th party's standard refund policy as it has been several months and the product is "used" now.
I also apologize if any of my verbiage is wrong or over-convolutes this. I am autistic and I endeavor to add detail for clarity, without breaking Rule 6.

Having been passed by Senedd Cymru and having received the assent of His Majesty, it is enacted as follows:

Interpretation of Welsh Parliament (Wales) Act 2019

1 Welsh Parliament (Wales) Act 2019 repealed
The Welsh Parliament (Wales) Act 2019 is repealed.
2 Validity of anything done not affected by name change
(1) Unless the context requires otherwise, a reference to any name given in subsection (3) in—

(a) any enactment (including any enactment comprised in or made under the Government of Wales Act 2006 or this Act) or prerogative instrument, or
(b) any other instrument or document

made between the day that the Welsh Parliament (Wales) Act 2019 came into force and the day this Act comes into force is to be read as, or as including, a reference to Senedd Cymru.
(2) In this section, “Senedd Cymru” means the body corporate established by Part 1 of the Government of Wales Act 2006.
(3) The names referred to in subsection (1) are—

(a) National Assembly for Wales;

It has come to the Government’s attention that the National Assembly for Wales was not properly renamed to Senedd Cymru back in 2019. For one, it renames this body to the ‘Welsh Parliament, or Senedd’, not ‘Senedd Cymru’. It does not rename ancillary bodies like the Assembly Commission or Acts of the National Assembly for Wales to Acts of Senedd Cymru.
This Bill makes those necessary consequential changes, and provides that they shall be construed to have retroactive effect, ensuring that the legal issues that were introduced by the 2019 Act are obviated and the renaming of this legislature is completed.
Finally, I wish to ask the Presiding Officer to certify that this Bill pertains to protected subject-matter under section 111A of the Government of Wales Act 2006.
I commend this Bill to the Senedd.

So we do electronics systems installations in a vehicle (think aircraft or boat/yacht or RV get an idea of the business.) We generally provide a written estimate with disclaimers and make it very clear that actual billing is time and materials. Then we get a materials deposit up front for the major components and later we invoice out precise time and materials to settle up at the end.
Every once in a long while we do an installation of a new WIDGET and the customer is invoiced but doesn't immediately pay. Sometimes there is a legit reason for slow pay like major injury/illness or some unforeseen life altering event. But sometimes you just know it is a deadbeat who never intended to pay in the first place and it just pulling scam. I am always tempted to just go back to the vehicle which we usually still have access to and remove the WIDGETs and let them know that after they pay the bill they can have their gear.
I know this is technically illegal and is considered stealing even though they didn't actually pay for it. Yes, it is illegal but I'm still tempted to do it as it puts the burden on them to go ahead and file a complaint or a police report or get a lawyer or etc. Yes, I may get hurt in some way if they really followed through all the way but it is tempting to take the chance or take the lumps rather than just let a scammer get free stuff.
I've seen youtube videos of a fence builder who takes down a fence or a landscaper that digs up the plants.
You guys ever pull this shit? How did it work out?

As the title says….it makes me nervous because he is full blown diabetic. My mom is also retired and MUCH more active and has plenty of friends. She’s at her wits end with my dad’s laziness. He goes to the gym and stretches for about 40 minutes and maybe walks a mile or two on the treadmill and “walks the mall” which who knows how fast or what he’s actually doing there probably 5x a week. I get that this isn’t being totally sedentary but as an example I know he takes the escalator instead of the stairs, he’s always finding short cuts.
Other than that his diet isn’t bad because my mom’s a great cook, he isn’t overweight by much now but he literally does nothing all day besides the mall and the gym. Seriously, nothing. His big activities are paying the bills where he literally calls the credit card companies so it takes more time and when a service person comes to fix something in the house.
My brother sister mom and I have all suggested many things like Uber driving (he had a career in sales and typically likes people and being social), secret shopping; part time easy jobs, volunteer work and he has zero interest. He claims to be happy but he starts smoking w**d at like 1 or 2 everyday and then the entire day is over. I can start to see the muscle atrophy happening because he’s generally so sedentary and does no weight training. I’ll ask him what he did that day and he always says “oh little things here and there” which means nothing. I promise you he’s seen more tv shows and movies than any of you out there.
Any suggestions on how to get him active in life with something to look forward? Or should we just leave him alone? Maybe he is really just happy being lazy? I can’t imagine. For me that seems horrible but maybe someone here can relate or share some advice on an approach to get through to him to find hobbies etc.
He just used to be such an interesting fun person to be around and now he’s just generally….a bore. I love my dad, just looking for strategies to get him back to his old self and stop being so lazy. I’ve communicated this to him ad nauseam btw

2 weeks in and HATING my new job
I had to quit my job (that I genuinely enjoyed) about a month ago. Very long story short, I pursued legal action after they cut my pay in half after returning from maternity leave. It was a VERY tough year with a lot of stress, and I’m glad it’s now officially behind me. We settled and I have enough money to fill the gap in employment and the gap that comes from starting a new sales role and having to ramp up.
I was able to secure a new job fairly quickly in the same industry and started last week. However, I was hired to “help build out this arm of the business”, where they have zero presence yet. I felt semi-sold into the role with false promises without feeling 100% set on it. Almost like I got married without feeling entirely confident they are the one.
The base pay is lower than industry standard, however the earning potential with commission is very good. But that potential is going to take MONTHS. And days and days of 50+ cold calls a day that they micromanage to the nth degree.
That brings me to the manager. He is misogynistic, has no people skills, mansplains things to me every time we talk, talks about his dashboards and how important they are to him to make sure “everyone is doing what they’re supposed to every day” (ie tracking activity, calls, emails, etc). He has not once asked my goals or aspirations or even really worked to understand my experience and skillset that is far and beyond anything he brings to the table.
I scheduled a 1-1 for the end of my First official week. He started the call with “sup” (unironically). He asked no questions, cared not to understand or dig deeper in to my less than enthusiastic response to “how’s it going”. It ended after 10 min, with no strategy or plans to help me feel more engaged in the work. I have no problem voicing my needs or concerns; he simply ignored them.
I’ve had significant and very frustrating tech issues all week, so can’t even make said calls without it being a massive pain.
There are three “managers” between me and the VP and we are a 4 person team, if that tells you anything about career opportunity.
They demoted a gentlemen who is a former VP of a team of 40 to be an individual contributor making 50+ cold calls a day and reporting to someone with 2 TOTAL years work experience.
I am remote. Benefits don’t even kick in til July (also something I wasn’t made aware of til I started).
Oh and I’m on the west coast and they asked me to work EST hours after I was verbally offered the job. So I’m waking up at 445a for a DAILY, mandatory on camera call at 515a. Where they ask what my plan is for the day. Followed by another call with my “team lead” where I’ll be asked again what my plan is for the day. I have to go to sleep immediately after my 2 kids do to even get a chance at a semi-sufficient night sleep.
My husband quit his job after baby 2 was born a year ago to stay home. He’s going back to school and has no job prospects so income is all on me til he’s prepared and qualified for a more lucrative position.
I’m far enough along in my career that I don’t want a short stint on my resume, but also don’t want to run from what could be a good opportunity (eventually, in the distant future). And, the job market is SO tough right now 😞. I swore I’d never get into sales like this again. I did it out of desperation. I’ve not stayed anywhere long enough to really “grow” as I want to in my career due to family/life changes and responsibilities, and I want to pivot to another industry but can’t get them to even glance at my resume/applications.
I almost want them to fire me so I qualify for unemployment. They have major accounts I could manage that aren’t even being touched that they’ve already told me there is “no reason to distribute to me or others on the team”. They’ll likely tell me I “knew what the job was” when I address my concerns, but if I don’t say something this week I’m going to go insane. This is the most anxious, unfulfilled, unmotivated, and disengaged I think I’ve felt since I started working.
How would you handle this? Any advice for pivoting out of one industry to another that doesn’t involve diving into another biz dev role? Degree in marketing, 14 years work experience in sales and account management.

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.
Most demanding tasks:

• Either dual-booting Windows and Linux or running Windows (mostly just to run Excel) in a VM inside Linux, but probably DB in the long run.
• Simultaneously running CPU-heavy strategy games (colony sims, city builders, 4x) alongside productivity software (Excel/Google Sheets, big files) (alt-tabbing between)
• Some music production (Ableton live - recording and arranging WAV files through an interface, audio processing and mixing)

(IMO, a RX 6800 will be more than enough on the GPU side)
What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?
True maximum is maybe $1500, but I am hoping/expecting not to need to go that high.
When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
I’d like to start accumulating pieces in the next few days (XFX SWFT 6800 is on sale for $340 right now) but I can wait a month or two if things are expected to change a lot in the market soon on other key components.

I think I’d like to have two SSDs for dual-boot safety. I also do need WiFi, either integrated or a compatible expansion.

Big enough to fit those crazy XFX cards (340mm)! Otherwise, my highest case priority is silence. I’d probably opt for white for >=$20 extra.

I’m looking at the $1250 build from the buy guide (7800X3D/RX 6800) and just want to make sure my needs aren’t asking too much of the components. I know that efficiency decreases with multitasking so I want to know that I have enough performance headroom before putting on that additional load, and if that means springing for faster RAM, faster drives, etc. then I want to do that. But I think it's also possible that the build as-is is plenty since I'm not pushing the GPU very hard and the X3D is very strong.
Aside from performance, I would like the machine to be able to run as quiet as possible, especially at low loads, and I want to be able to manually control the fans when needed (not sure if that’s standard now or not).

We settled and I have enough money to fill the gap in employment and the gap that comes from starting a new sales role and having to ramp up.
I was able to secure a new job fairly quickly in the same industry and started last week. However, I was hired to “help build out this arm of the business”, where they have zero presence yet. I felt semi-sold into the role with false promises without feeling 100% set on it. Almost like I got married without feeling entirely confident they are the one.
The base pay is lower than industry standard, however the earning potential with commission is very good. But that potential is going to take MONTHS. And days and days of 50+ cold calls a day that they micromanage to the nth degree.
That brings me to the manager. He is misogynistic, has no people skills, mansplains things to me every time we talk, talks about his dashboards and how important they are to him to make sure “everyone is doing what they’re supposed to every day” (ie tracking activity, calls, emails, etc). He has not once asked my goals or aspirations or even really worked to understand my experience and skillset that is far and beyond anything he brings to the table.
I scheduled a 1-1 for the end of my First official week. He started the call with “sup” (unironically). He asked no questions, cared not to understand or dig deeper in to my less than enthusiastic response to “how’s it going”. It ended after 10 min, with no strategy or plans to help me feel more engaged in the work.
I’ve had significant and very frustrating tech issues all week, so can’t even make said calls without it being a massive pain.
There are three “managers” between me and the VP and we are a 4 person team, if that tells you anything about career opportunity.
They demoted a gentlemen who is a former VP of a team of 40 to be an individual contributor making 50+ cold calls a day and reporting to someone with 2 TOTAL years work experience.
I am remote. Benefits don’t even kick in til July (also something I wasn’t made aware of til I started).
Oh and I’m on the west coast and they asked me to work EST hours after I was verbally offered the job. So I’m waking up at 445a for a DAILY, mandatory on camera call at 515a. Where they ask what my plan is for the day. Followed by another call with my “team lead” where I’ll be asked again what my plan is for the day. I have to go to sleep immediately after my 2 kids do to even get a chance at a semi-sufficient night sleep.
My husband quit his job after baby 2 was born a year ago to stay home. He’s going back to school and has no job prospects so income is all on me til he’s prepared and qualified for a more lucrative position.
I’m far enough along in my career that I don’t want a short stint on my resume, but also don’t want to run from what could be a good opportunity (eventually, in the distant future). And, the job market is SO tough right now 😞
I want them to fire me so I qualify for unemployment. They have major accounts I could manage that aren’t even being touched that they’ve already told me there is “no reason to distribute to me or others on the team”. They’ll likely tell me I “knew what the job was” when I address my concerns, but if I don’t say something this week I’m going to go insane. This is the most anxious, unfulfilled, unmotivated, and disengaged I think I’ve felt since I started working.

Our second item of business today is a Stage 3 Debate in the name of the Scottish Green Party. The question is that the Parliament agrees to the general principles of the Hunting with Dogs (Scotland) Bill, as amended with one SPAG.

Hunting with Dogs (Scotland) Bill

An Act of the Scottish Parliament to make provision about the prohibition of hunting wild mammals using dogs; to make provision about the prohibition of trail hunting; and for connected purposes.

PART 1

HUNTING A WILD MAMMAL USING A DOG

Offences
1 Offence of hunting a wild mammal using a dog
(1) A person commits an offence if—

(a) they hunt a wild mammal using a dog, and
(b) none of the exceptions in sections 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9 apply.

(2) A person who commits an offence under subsection (1) is liable—

(a) on summary conviction, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 6 months or a fine not exceeding £40,000, or level 5 on the standard scale, whichever would be higher for the person, or
(b) on conviction on indictment, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 5 years or a fine (or both).

(3) In this Act—

“hunting” includes, in particular, searching for and coursing (and related expressions are to be construed accordingly),
“wild mammal” means any mammal (other than a human)—

(a) which—

(i) is living in a wild state,
(ii) is of a species recognised as living in a wild state in the British Islands (as defined in schedule 1 of the Interpretation Act 1978), or
(iii) has been deliberately released from temporary or permanent human control, and
(b) which is not—
(i) a rat,
(ii) a mouse, or
(iii) living under temporary or permanent human control.

(4) In this Part, a person is “using a dog” when the hunting of a wild mammal by the person involves the use of a dog, even if the dog is not under that person’s control or direction (and related expressions are to be construed accordingly).
2 Offences of knowingly causing or permitting another person to hunt using a dog
(1) A person commits an offence if—

(a) they—

(i) are an owner or occupier of land, and
(ii) knowingly cause or permit another person to hunt a wild mammal using a dog on that land, and

(b) none of the exceptions in sections 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9 apply to the hunting.

(2) A person commits an offence if—

(a) they—

(i) own or are responsible for a dog, and
(ii) knowingly cause or permit another person to hunt a wild mammal using that dog, and

(b) none of the exceptions in sections 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9 apply to the hunting.

(3) A person who commits an offence under subsection (1) or (2) is liable on summary conviction, to—

(a) imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months,
(b) a fine not exceeding £40,000, or level 5 on the standard scale, whichever would be higher for the person, or
(c) both of the penalties under paragraphs (a) and (b).

(4) In this Part, an “owner” of land includes a person who—

(a) manages or controls that land, or
(b) is authorised to give permission for that land to be used for hunting.

(5) In this Act, a person “is responsible for” a dog where the person—

(a) is responsible for the dog on a temporary or permanent basis,
(b) is in charge of the dog, or
(c) has actual care and control of a person under the age of 16 years who is responsible for the dog under paragraph (a) or (b).

Exceptions to the offences
3 Exception: management of wild mammals above ground
(1) This section applies if—

(a) a person is using a dog above ground to—

(i) search for, stalk or flush from cover a wild mammal, with the intention of killing it for one or more of the purposes set out in subsection (2),
(ii) search for and retrieve a wild mammal which has been killed as a result of the activity mentioned in sub-paragraph (i), and

(b) the conditions set out in subsection (3) are met.

(2) The purposes referred to in subsection (1)(a)(i) are—

(a) preventing serious damage to livestock, woodland or crops,
(b) preventing the spread of disease,
(c) protecting human health.

(3) The conditions referred to in subsection (1)(b) are that—

(a) either—

(i) the activity mentioned in subsection (1)(a) does not involve the use of more than two dogs, or
(ii) the activity is carried out in accordance with a licence granted under section 4,

(b) any dog used in the activity is under control,
(c) unless paragraph (a)(ii) applies, reasonable steps are taken to ensure that any dog used in the activity does not join with others to form a pack of more than two dogs,
(d) permission for the activity has been given by the owner of the land on which the activity takes place,
(e) the wild mammal which is being searched for, stalked or flushed is shot dead, or killed by a bird of prey, as soon as reasonably possible,
(f) if an attempt to kill the wild mammal, as mentioned in paragraph (e), results in it being injured but not killed, reasonable steps are taken to kill it in a way (other than by using a dog) that causes it the minimum possible suffering.

4 Licence for use of more than two dogs in connection with section 3
(1) A person may apply for a licence permitting the use of more than two dogs for the activity mentioned in section 3(1)(a).
(2) An application for a licence under subsection (1) must be made to the relevant authority.
(3) A licence under subsection (1)—

(a) may be granted to a particular person or to a category of persons,
(b) must relate to a particular species of wild mammal,
(c) must not be granted unless the relevant authority is satisfied that there is no other solution which would be effective in achieving the purpose set out in section 3(2) in relation to which the application for a licence is being made,
(d) may only permit the use of the minimum number of dogs which the relevant authority is satisfied would be effective in achieving the purpose set out in section 3(2) in relation to which the application for a licence is being made,
(e) must require the deployment of the minimum number of guns which the relevant authority is satisfied would be effective for compliance with the conditions set out in section 3(3)(e) and (f) in relation to the activity for which the application for a licence is being made,
(f) may be subject to compliance with such conditions as the relevant authority considers appropriate, which may include, in particular, reporting requirements in relation to activities carried out under the licence,
(g) may be granted for a maximum period of 14 days, which must fall within a period of 6 consecutive months,
(h) may be modified or revoked by the relevant authority at any time.

(5) A licence under this section must specify—

(a) the person or category of persons to whom it is granted,
(b) the species of wild mammal to which it relates,
(c) the area within which the searching for, stalking or flushing of that species of wild mammal may take place under the licence,
(d) the maximum number of dogs which are permitted to be used,
(e) the minimum number of guns (if any) which are required to be deployed,
(f) any conditions to which the licence is subject.

5 Exception: management of foxes below ground
(1) This section applies if—

(a) a person is using a dog to—

(i) search for a fox below ground, or
(ii) flush a fox from below ground,

with the intention of killing it for one or more of the purposes set out in subsection (2), and
(b) the conditions set out in subsection (3) are met.

(2) The purposes referred to in subsection (1)(a) are—

(a) preventing serious damage to livestock, woodland or crops,
(b) preventing the spread of disease,
(c) protecting human health,
(d) relieving the suffering of an injured or dependent fox.

(3) The conditions referred to in subsection (1)(b) are that—

(a) the activity mentioned in subsection (1)(a) does not involve the use of more than one dog,
(b) the dog used in the activity is—

(i) under control,
(ii) fitted with a device to allow tracking of the position of the dog below ground,

(c) reasonable steps are taken—

(i) to prevent the dog becoming trapped below ground, and
(ii) if the dog becomes trapped below ground, to ensure that it is rescued as soon as reasonably possible,
(d) permission for the activity has been given by the owner of the land on which the activity takes place,

(e) no steps are taken to prevent the fox from being flushed or emerging from below ground,
(f) if the fox which is being searched for or flushed is found or emerges from below ground, it is shot dead, or killed by a bird of prey, as soon as reasonably possible,
(g) if an attempt to kill the fox, as mentioned in paragraph (f), results in it being injured but not killed, reasonable steps are taken to kill it in a way (other than by using a dog) that causes it the minimum possible suffering.

(4) In this section, “dependent” means that the mother of a fox is dead and it is too young to survive on its own.
6 Exception: falconry, game shooting and deer stalking
(1) This section applies if—

(a) a person is using a dog above ground to—

(i) search for, stalk or flush from cover a wild mammal, with the intention of providing quarry for falconry, game shooting or deer stalking,
(ii) search for and retrieve a wild mammal which has been killed as a result of the activity mentioned in sub-paragraph (i), and

(b) the conditions set out in subsection (2) are met.

(2) The conditions referred to in subsection (1)(b) are that—

(a) the activity mentioned in subsection (1)(a) does not involve the use of more than two dogs,
(b) any dog used in the activity is under control,
(c) reasonable steps are taken to ensure that any dog used in the activity does not join with others to form a pack of more than two dogs,
(d) permission for the activity has been given by the owner of the land on which the activity takes place,
(e) the wild mammal which is being searched for, stalked or flushed is shot dead, or killed by a bird of prey, as soon as reasonably possible,
(f) if an attempt to kill the wild mammal, as mentioned in paragraph (e), results in it being injured but not killed, reasonable steps are taken to kill it in a way (other than by using a dog) that causes it the minimum possible suffering.

(3) In this section—

“deer stalking” means the stealthy approach of a deer in order to shoot it for sport,
“falconry” means the use of a bird of prey to hunt for sport,
“game shooting” means shooting wild mammals for sport,
“quarry” means the wild mammal intended to be killed by a bird of prey or shot.

7 Exception: relieving the suffering of injured wild mammals
(1) This section applies if—

(a) a person is using a dog above ground to search for, stalk or flush from cover a wild mammal which the person has reasonable grounds for believing is injured, with the intention of treating, capturing or killing it for the purpose of relieving its suffering,
(b) the wild mammal was not deliberately injured for the purpose of allowing the activity mentioned in paragraph (a) to take place, and
(c) the conditions set out in subsection (2) are met.

(2) The conditions referred to in subsection (1)(c) are that—

(a) the activity mentioned in subsection (1)(a) does not involve the use of more than two dogs,
(b) any dog used in the activity is under control,
(c) reasonable steps are taken to ensure that any dog used in the activity does not join with others to form a pack of more than two dogs,
(d) either—

(i) permission for the activity has been given by the owner of the land on which the activity takes place,
(ii) the person carrying out the activity is a constable exercising a power of entry,
(iii) the person carrying out the activity is exercising a power of entry under section 14M or 14N of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, or
(iv) the person carrying out the activity is exercising a power of entry under section 15 of the Deer (Scotland) Act 1996,

(e) the wild mammal which is being searched for, stalked or flushed is, as soon as reasonably possible, either—

(i) given treatment to reduce or alleviate its pain or discomfort before being allowed to escape without being pursued or killed,
(ii) captured for the purpose of being given treatment to reduce or alleviate its pain or discomfort (whether at that place or at another place),
(iii) shot dead, or
(iv) observed and allowed to escape without being pursued or killed,

(f) if an attempt to kill the wild mammal, as mentioned in paragraph (e)(iii), results in it being injured but not killed, reasonable steps are taken to kill it in a way (other than by using a dog) that causes it the minimum possible suffering.

8 Exception: searching for dead wild mammals
(1) This section applies if—

(a) a person is using a dog above ground to search for and retrieve a dead wild mammal, and
(b) the conditions set out in subsection (2) are met.

(2) The conditions referred to in subsection (1)(b) are that—

(a) the activity mentioned in subsection (1)(a) does not involve the use of more than two dogs,
(b) any dog used in the activity is under control,
(c) reasonable steps are taken to ensure that any dog used in the activity does not join with others to form a pack of more than two dogs,
(d) either—

(i) permission for the activity has been given by the owner of the land on which the activity takes place,
(ii) the person carrying out the activity is a constable exercising a power of entry,
(iii) the person carrying out the activity is exercising a power of entry under section 14M or 14N of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, or
(iv) the person carrying out the activity is exercising a power of entry under section 15 of the Deer (Scotland) Act 1996,

(e) reasonable steps are taken to ensure that no wild mammal is pursued, injured or killed.

9 Exception: environmental benefit
(1) This section applies if—

(a) the person is using a dog above ground to—

(i) search for, stalk or flush from cover a wild mammal, with the intention of killing, capturing or observing it as part of a scheme or plan for one or more of the purposes set out in subsection (2),
(ii) search for and retrieve a wild mammal which has been killed as a result of the activity referred to in sub-paragraph (i), and

(b) the conditions set out in subsection (3) are met.

(2) The purposes referred to in subsection (1)(a)(i) are—

(a) preserving, protecting or restoring a particular species (which may include controlling the number of a species for its welfare) for environmental benefit,
(b) preserving, protecting or restoring the diversity of animal or plant life,
(c) eradicating an invasive non-native species of wild mammal from an area.

(3) The conditions referred to in subsection (1)(b) are that—

(a) either—

(i) the activity mentioned in subsection (1)(a) does not involve the use of more than two dogs, or
(ii) the activity is carried out in accordance with a licence granted under section 10,

(b) any dog used in the activity is under control,
(c) unless paragraph (a)(ii) applies, reasonable steps are taken to ensure that any dog used in the activity does not join with others to form a pack of more than two dogs,
(d) either—

(i) permission for the activity has been given by the owner of the land on which the activity takes place,
(ii) the person carrying out the activity is exercising a power of entry under section 14M or 14N of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, or
(iii) the person carrying out the activity is exercising a power of entry under section 15 of the Deer (Scotland) Act 1996,

(e) the wild mammal which is being searched for, stalked or flushed is either—

(i) captured (whether or not with the intention of subsequently releasing or relocating it) as soon as reasonably possible,
(ii) shot dead, or killed by a bird of prey, as soon as reasonably possible, or
(iii) observed and allowed to escape without being pursued, injured or killed,

(f) if an attempt to kill the wild mammal, as mentioned in paragraph (e)(ii), results in it being injured but not killed, reasonable steps are taken to kill it in a way (other than by using a dog) that causes it the minimum possible suffering.

(4) In this section—

“invasive non-native species” means a species—

(a) which is included on the Scottish list of species of special concern, or
(b) which is—

(i) not native to the area in which the activity mentioned in subsection (1)(a) takes place, and
(ii) having or likely to have a significant adverse impact on biodiversity, the environment, social or economic interests or human or animal health,

“Scottish list of species of special concern” means the list of species in the Annex to Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2016/1141 adopting a list of invasive alien species of Union concern pursuant to Regulation (EU) No 1143/2014 of the European Parliament and of the Council, as amended from time to time.

10 Licence for use of more than two dogs in connection with section 9
(1) A person may apply for a licence permitting the use of more than two dogs for the activity mentioned in section 9(1)(a).
(2) An application for a licence under subsection (1) must be made to the relevant authority.
(3) A licence under subsection (1)—

(a) may be granted to a particular person or to a category of persons,
(b) must relate to a particular species of wild mammal,
(c) must not be granted unless the relevant authority is satisfied—

(i) that killing, capturing or observing the wild mammal will contribute towards a significant or long-term environmental benefit, and
(ii) that there is no other solution which would be effective in achieving the purpose set out in section 9(2) in relation to which the application for a licence is being made,

(d) may only permit the use of the minimum number of dogs which the relevant authority is satisfied would be effective in achieving the purpose set out in section 9(2) in relation to which the application for a licence is being made,
(e) must require the deployment of the minimum number of guns which the relevant authority is satisfied would be effective for compliance with the conditions set out in section 9(3)(e) and (f) in relation to the activity for which the application for a licence is being made,
(f) may be subject to compliance with such conditions as the relevant authority considers appropriate, which may include, in particular, reporting requirements in relation to activities carried out under the licence,
(g) may be granted for a maximum period of two years, which must fall within a period of two consecutive years,
(h) may be modified or revoked by the relevant authority at any time.

(5) A licence under this section must specify—

(a) the person or category of persons to whom it is granted,
(b) the species of wild mammal to which it relates,
(c) the area within which the searching for, stalking or flushing of that species of wild mammal may take place under the licence,
(d) the maximum number of dogs which are permitted to be used,
(e) the minimum number of guns (if any) which are required to be deployed,
(f) any conditions to which the licence is subject.

11 Regulations: licences
(1) The Scottish Ministers may, by regulations—

(a) make provision for—

(i) the form of applications for licences under subsection (1) of sections 4 and 10,
(ii) a reasonable fee to be paid to the relevant authority for the application of licences under sections 4 and 10,

(b) appoint the relevant authority under sections 4 and 10 or
(c) make such other provision as they see fit in relation to licences under this section and section 10

(2) Regulations—

(a) when made under paragraphs (1)(a) and (1)(b), are subject to the negative procedure,
(b) when made under paragraph (1)(c), are subject to the affirmative procedure.

(3) Regulations under paragraphs (1)(a) and (1)(b) may not amend the text of any Act.
(4) Until and unless the Scottish Ministers appoint a relevant authority under paragraph (1)(b), the Scottish Ministers shall be the relevant authority.
(5) For greater clarity, nothing in this section prevents the Scottish Ministers appointing themselves as the relevant authority.

PART 2

TRAIL HUNTING

Offences
12 Offences relating to trail hunting
(1) A person commits an offence if—

(a) the person engages or participates in trail hunting, and
(b) the exception in section 13 does not apply.

(2) In this Part—

“trail hunting” is the activity in which a dog is directed to find and follow an animal-based scent which has been laid for that purpose,
“animal-based scent” means—

(a) a scent which is derived from a wild mammal, or
(b) a scent which mimics, replicates or resembles the scent of a wild mammal (or which is designed to do so), whether or not that scent is derived wholly or in part from artificial ingredients.

(3) A person commits an offence if—

(a) the person—

(i) is an owner or occupier of land, and
(ii) knowingly causes or permits another person to engage or participate in trail hunting on that land, and

(b) the exception in section 13 does not apply to the trail hunting.

(4) A person commits an offence if—

(a) the person—

(i) owns or is responsible for a dog, and
(ii) knowingly causes or permits another person to use the dog for trail hunting, and

(b) the exception in section 13 does not apply to the trail hunting.

(5) A person who commits an offence under subsection (1), (3) or (4) is liable on summary conviction to—

(a) imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months,
(b) a fine not exceeding £40,000, or level 5 on the standard scale, whichever would be higher for the person, or
(c) both of the penalties under paragraphs (a) and (b).

(6) It is a defence for a person charged with an offence under subsection (3) or (4) to show that the person reasonably believed that the exception in section 13 applied to the trail hunting.
(7) In this Part, an “owner” of land includes, in particular, a person who—

(a) manages or controls that land, or
(b) is authorised to give permission for that land to be used for trail hunting.

Exception to the offences
13 Exception: training dogs to follow an animal-based scent
(1) This section applies if—

(a) a person—

(i) directs a dog to find and follow an animal-based scent which has been laid for that purpose, or
(ii) lays an animal-based scent for a dog to find and follow,

in order to train a dog for a lawful purpose, and
(b) all of the conditions set out in subsection (2) are met.

(2) The conditions are that—

(a) the activity mentioned in subsection (1)(a) does not involve more than two dogs,
(b) any dog involved in the activity is under control,
(c) reasonable steps are taken to ensure that any dog involved in the activity does not join with others to form a pack of more than two dogs,
(d) permission for the activity has been given by the owner of the land on which the activity takes place,
(e) reasonable steps are taken to ensure that no wild mammal is pursued, injured or killed.

PART 3

GENERAL PROVISIONS

14 Ancillary provision
(1) The Scottish Ministers may by regulations make any incidental, supplementary, consequential, transitional, transitory or saving provision they consider appropriate for the purposes of, in connection with or for giving full effect to this Act.
(2) The Scottish Ministers may by regulations make such provision as they see fit regarding the enforcement of this Act.
(3) Regulations under this section may—

(a) make different provision for different purposes,
(b) modify any enactment (including this Act).

(4) Regulations under this section—

(a) are subject to the affirmative procedure if they—

(i) add to, replace or omit any part of the text of this or any other Act; or
(ii) are made under subsection (2);

(b) otherwise, are subject to the negative procedure.

(5) Before making regulations under subsection (2), the Scottish Ministers must consult such people as they see fit.
15 Interpretation
In this Act—

“animal” means a vertebrate (other than a human) or an invertebrate,
“constable” has the meaning given by section 99(1) of the Police and Fire Reform (Scotland) Act 2012,
“cover” means a place above ground in which a wild mammal may be concealed from sight, but does not include an enclosed place from which a wild mammal could not be flushed,
“hunting” is to be construed in accordance with section 1(3),
“livestock” means cattle, sheep, goats, swine, horses, camelids, ratites, farmed deer, enclosed game birds or poultry, and for the purposes of this definition—

(a) “cattle” means bulls, cows, oxen, buffalo, heifers or calves,
(b) “horses” includes donkeys and mules,
(c) “farmed deer” means deer of any species which are on agricultural land enclosed by a deer-proof barrier and kept by way of business for the primary purpose of meat production,
(d) “enclosed game birds” means any pheasant, partridge, grouse (or moor game), black (or heath) game or ptarmigan that are being kept enclosed prior to their release for sporting purposes,
(e) “poultry” means domestic fowls, turkeys, geese or ducks,

“relevant authority” is to be construed in accordance with sections 4, 10, and 11,
“responsible for”, in relation to a dog, is to be construed in accordance with section 2(6),
“under control”, in relation to a dog, means that a person who is responsible for the dog is able to direct the dog’s activity by physical contact or verbal or audible command,
“wild mammal” has the meaning given by section 1(3),
“woodland” means land on which trees are grown, whether or not commercially, and includes any such trees and any vegetation planted or growing naturally among such trees on that land.

15 Repeal of the Protection of Wild Mammals (Scotland) Act 2002
The Protection of Wild Mammals (Scotland) Act 2002 is repealed.
16 Crown application: criminal offences
(1) Nothing in this Act makes the Crown criminally liable.
(2) The Court of Session may, on an application by the Lord Advocate, declare unlawful any act or omission for which the Crown would be criminally liable if it were not for subsection (1).
(3) Subsection (1) does not affect the criminal liability of persons in the service of the Crown.
17 Commencement
This Act comes into force 6 months after Royal Assent.
18 Short title
ThIs Act may be cited as the Hunting with Dogs (Scotland) Act 2024.

This Act draws heavily from the IRL Hunting with Dogs (Scotland) Act 2023.

Opening Speech

Oifigear-riaghlaidh,
Hunting with dogs is a unique killer. The numbers aren't precise, but about one fifth of foxes disturbed by hunts are killed by dogs, despite the fact that a large majority of hunts go on without dogs.
This bill bans this killer. It bans hunting with dogs. This will save the lives of mammals like foxes.
Now, there are some legitimate uses for hunting with dogs, I don't dispute that. For example, to relieve the suffering of dying mammals. This bill ensures that farmers and rural communities can continue to hunt for legitimate reasons.
This bill will reduce suffering for mammals and will make it easier to convict people for unlawfully using dogs in hunting. I commend this bill to the Pàrlamaid.

Last Fall I purchased a home and the previous owner gave me a personal watercraft and trailer they did not want to take with them. The Jet Ski itself has a title and bill of sale, however the previous owner could not find any paperwork for the trailer. What is the best way to obtain a title for the trailer? Abandoned vehicle title request, or is there another way. Thanks!

I created a new account just for this, but i'm curious if anyone else is having a bad experience.
I picked up my 2024 independence deluxe on 4/17.
Unfortunately, i was distracted and excited and didnt do a great job checking it over.
I got less than 300 miles away, and it basically started falling apart.
I called them, explained everything, and we set a date to bring it back, drop it off, and they promised to take care of everything.
Well. When i got home, i decided to do a thorough check over.
The basically gave me an unfinished camper.
A list of all the things i found:
Exposed trailer brake wires, Missing rivets, Popped rivets, Missing silicone, Peeling silicone, Silicone wiped everywhere, Missing paint, Paint overspray everywhere, Water leaks around the windows, Bent window frames (causing the leaks), Dents, dings, scratches, scrapes everywhere, Exposed 120v wiring, Missing air vent grate, Window shades falling off, Cabinet doors not staying closed, Sink was loose, Stove was bent and didnt sit flush, Bathroom watertight compartment leaking, All the roof silicone peeling, Stripped screws, All the cabinets screws are screwed in crooked, Bent cabinet hardware, Chewed up cabinet trim, Carpet stains, Bathroom fan wouldnt open, Plastic trim chewed up, A huge chip in the bottom of the fiberglass tub, Fridge came loose, Intermittent tail and tag light problems,
They were really apologetic as first, and i was really nice about it, showed them everything for like 2 hours when i dropped it back off.
When i picked it up, they adressed MAYBE a third of that stuff, and very poorly. Some of it is even worse.
They got spraypaint on the carpet, they colored in missing paint with a black sharpie, they claimed the bent windows were normal, they claimed they couldnt find the water leak.
We argued for a bit. I got a bunch of lies, then excuses, then told they did all they were willing to do, and everything is up to their standards.
I was going to get my money back, but my girlfriend convinced me to just bring it home and fix it myself, since we basically have to move into it in 2 months, and have no other options.
I got 200 miles away, again, and the fridge is broken again. the sink hold down hardware fell off. the shades are loose again. they didnt fix any of the peeling silicone on the roof.
It rained for half the drive home. not hard rain. just normal rain. for like 8 hours.
By the time i got home, the interior was absolutely soaked. and i mean SOAKED. cusions, carpet, everything.
I had to buy tarps and a dehumidifier today so it doesnt mold or mildew in there, and its supposed to rain all week.
They keep saying "just take it to a repair shop."
I dont have months to take a brand new, $32k rv and leave it at a shop.
I expected to, you know, be able to actually use the brand new camper?
I havent even been able to use the camper yet. I have 2 months to cram our entire apartment and office in there, plus a solar power system.
They already have my money, and they literally could not care any less about fixing this thing.
I'm REALLY disappointed. I researched this stuff for like 2 years before pulling the trigger and ordering this thing, and stupidly put all my eggs in one basket, and now i'm left to basically rebuild a brand new camper...
All the youtube videos i've watched, everyone else seem perfect, and everyone loves them and are super happy. But i got this absolute abortion of a mess...

I like to do wrestling related book reports, and in the past, this sub responded really well to my posts. Again, though, if y'all feel like this isn't the kind of content for this sub, let me know, and I'll post elsewhere.
Very, very short book that didn't detail too much, with a large portion being Billy just ranting on the history of wrestling or fighting.
As always, I attempted to keep to chronological order of events, even though Billy didn't tell a lot of this in order, and he never dated any story.
(Note: the number of guys named "Billy" in this post is just unreal and gave me a headache)
Billy describes how his dad, grandfather, uncle, and great-grandfather were all world-class boxers or fighters. He says his father taught him a ton of things to do in a fight and even underhanded tactics, like using a pencil to defend himself. Billy says a 4H pencil had the toughest lead that you could sharpen out and use as a weapon. The best part was that it wasn't classified as a weapon, so you could avoid the jail time that came with having knives.
Billy describes running home from school as 3 boys chased him. When he got home, crying, his dad asked him what was going on. After Billy explained, his dad said, "You can either fight the 3 of them or fight me." Billy chose the 3 boys, and his dad went with him to make sure the fights were 1 on 1. After Billy beat up the 1st two kids, the third one wanted none of it. Billy says this was the first time he saw his dad was proud of him.
Billy dreamed of being a pro boxer, but one day, as a child, he was struck in the eye by a metal sign that some other kids were playing with and severely tore his retina. He spent 6 weeks in the hospital, and his boxing dreams were over.
Billy's uncle wanted him to try out pro wrestling because it was popular in the 60s, but Billy's dad wanted him to do amature wrestling, though it wasn't as lucrative as pro wrestling. Eventually, Billy was brought to a local YMCA where he started to train amature.
Before long, Billy's dad relented and took him to Billy Riley's gym, the same place that Karl Gotch trained and that Dynamite Kid would go train at as well. Billy even met John Foley there, who would go on to be a feared shooter and manage Dynamite Kid in Stampede Wrestling. Though if that's the only place you know John Foley from, then you won't have a high opinion of him.
John Foley was a legit bad ass shooter for most of his career, who was known to take liberties with guys. By the time he got to Stampede Wrestling, though, he was an old timer who was more known as a drunk who everyone ribbed. One story suggests where he lost his nerve, and that would be the time he was being a little too physical in the ring with Lanny and Randy Poffo, prompting their dad Angelo came to the ring, and all 3 Poffo men beat the living shit out of Foley. Bret Hart says he "never lived it down."
Billy says the best match he ever saw was a "friendly" sparring contest between Jack Dempsey and John Foley that left both men with black eyes, broken noses and blood coming out of their ears and mouths. Billy says they were still close friends after.
Billy calls shoot fighting/grappling "physical chess," and he spent 12 years learning this at Reilly's Gym, also known as the Snake Pit.
Billy learned "catch-as-catch-can" (or Greco-Roman) wrestling in The Snake Pit from Charlie Carrol.
Charlie Carrol was 55 years old and 155 pounds to Billy's 6 foot 2, 190 pound 17 year old, but Charlie hurt Billy every single time they sparred. Billy says that Charlie kept him humble.
Billy puts over modern MMA fighters but says the best modern MMA fighter couldn't hold a candle to a mediocre 1930s catch wrestler.
It's not a long book, but a significant section early on is just Billy going over the history of catch fighting and amateur wrestling all the way back to the 1800s. He complains that modern amateur wrestling is all about power and maneuvering for points and says he doesn't even watch the Olympics anymore. It's actually super fascinating as he details various amature techniques used in different Olympic competitions and where they originated from.
He tells a story of how when he was a teenager, his coach Billy Riley (who was 55 years old) would walk with him down the street and often try to grapple with Billy or show him some maneuver right there and Billy says people would stare at them like they were homosexuals and says it was so embarrassing. At the time, homosexuality was illegal in England.
Billy Robinson is critical of modern coaching, which he says consists of the coach giving a ton of positive feedback. Billy Robinson won multiple amature championship tournaments and bouts but never heard a good word from Billy Riley. When Billy Robinson won his first amature world title, he remembered Riley saying, "That was good." Riley would later explain that it wasn't his job to tell Robinson what was good, but it was his job to tell Robinson what was wrong and where he can correct himself. Interesting take on coaching.
In 1956, Billy placed 3rd at the nationals for amature wrestling. In 1957, he won the nationals tournament! Riley told Billy Robinson, "You've won all the cups and the medals. Why don't you take me out and buy me a steak dinner?" When Billy Robinson said he couldn't afford to, Riley said to him, "It just goes to show you kid, you can't buy steak with medals. It's time you turned pro."
Billy says he regrets not putting pro wrestling off another couple of years. He thinks he should have been amature wrestling in the Olympics. He beat everyone who eventually wrestled on the Brittish team, and he thought he could have won a medal.
Billy turned pro at 19 years old and was asked to help get pro wrestling going in Sweden. The problem was that the Sweden Olympic amature wrestling team wouldn't allow it unless the pros proved they were legit and could beat them in an amateur contest. Billy beat them all, including Alex Gronburg, a 2 time Olympic champion and former world champion, and Gosta Andersson, who quit after a minute, saying, "Hey, it's too dangerous for us."
Billy Robinson asked to go to Spain and wrestle for a new promotion, but as he was getting ready to leave, his coach Billy Riley warned him that if he worked for that company he would be black balled out of most major European wrestling companies. Robinson told Riley that he had given his word, and he said this was the first time he ever went against Riley's suggestion.
It didn't matter because Billy said the Spain promotion fizzled out before he even got there, but no one told him, and he flew to Spain for no reason.
He ended up staying in Spain, living with someone Billy referred to as "the English professor" who introduced him to people like Earnist Hemmingway and Sophia Loren and got Billy work in a movie
One day, the professor told Billy that his name was in the newspaper, and sure enough, Billy was being advertised in a new wrestling promotion. When Billy called them, he was informed that they had a job for him. For 2 years, 1960-1961, Billy wrestled in Spain and made a name for himself.
Billy would wrestle in tournaments and other tours during this time as well, in places like Germany and Belgium.
It was at these tournaments when Billy started noticing guys wanting to train with him and only him. Billy days. "It was odd!"
Billy loved zoos and had opinions on the good ones. He says he could spend all day just watching gorillas
Billy says he didn't like France much, saying that compared to places like Germany, Switzerland, and Austria, France was pretty dirty and gross back then.
Billy seems to have loved Lebanon the most, and being a huge history buff, Billy goes on a tangent about the history of Lebanon.
Billy wrestled in India in 1962, and on the way back, he stopped in Lebabon right before a war broke out, and he had to quickly escape.
Billy says his father told him that he should pretend to not know English when traveling and not be identified as an English speaking person. He said this advice helped him his whole life while traveling.
The first time Billy got to India, he was shocked at the poverty and state of it. He remembers seeing dead animals all over the place and people sleeping in the streets among rats. Billy also puts over India and a big wrestling country and said he had a good time there.
Billy says he was fortunate to wrestle the original Dara Singh. Dara Singh was a huge name in India, and he eventually went to prison for killing 3 men. He did it because those 3 men killed his brother, so it was a revenge killing. Years later, he would be pardoned and released. This is when Billy beat him in India.
In India, it was legitimately against the law for a Muslim to wrestle against a Hindu, so the Muslim community "adopted" Billy Robinson as their guy to fight the Hundu guys. It's pretty fascinating imo.
After India, Billy wrestled in Napal and said he had a great time, even wrestling private matches for the King of Napal.
While in Napal, Billy was ribbed into approaching a live leopard and says it was the first time in his life that he ever felt fear.
Billy even helped some Americans set up a play for the King of Napal, where Billy was the stage manager and even took a couple of bumps on the hard wood floor. He says the King loved it so much that he called for an encore, so Billy had to do the painful bump again.
Billy recalls one time in Napal, a local accidently hit and killed a cow with his truck. Since cows were sacred, the man was killed right there, and his body hung from a lamppost.
While in Germany wrestling a tournament that was cross promoting with a ten pin bowling competition, Billy met his future wife Ursula. She was working on the bowling side and Billy on the wrestling side. Billy says when their eyes first locked, he was in the ring, and she was in the front row. Billy says, "It was the beginning of the end, for my single days." 18 months later she came to England and they got married.
Billy says he played some charity bowling games against the Beatles in the early 60s.
Dave Ruhl was an extremely popular face in Stampede Wrestling out of Calgary, and through his uncle Ray Steele, Dave got ahold of Billy and invited him to Calgary Billy says Stampede promoter Stu Hart saw Billy wrestle one match and then invite Billy to come to Stampede Wrestling.
While backstage at one of his first Stampede shows, he saw a bunch of big gues in the dressing room talking. Through eavesdropping, he heard them talking about football and asked them if they were wrestlers or football players. They said football players, and so Billy insisted they leave the dressing room. Things got tense and heated, but eventually, Billy made it clear that if they didn't leave, he would remove them. He says they all scurried out of the room and notes that one of them was a young Wayne Coleman, the future "Superstar" Billy Graham.
After reading Billy Graham's book, it's clear that these two fucking hated eachother, with Graham calling Billy a bully who took liberties with less experienced guys in the ring. In Graham's book, he details how poorly Robinson treated him when their paths crossed in Stampede Wrestling. Graham's book made no mention of Billy kicking him out of a locker room nor the supposed contract with Verne that forbade Robinson from hurting Graham.
Down the line when Billy came to Minnesota, Billy Robinson claimes that Billy Graham insisted that Verne write up a contract that prohibited Billy Robinson and Billy Graham from squaring up. I don't know the validity of this claim, but Billy Robinson says Billy Graham was so scared that he only came to Minnesota with the guarantee that Robinson wouldn't hurt him.
This claim about a contract and Graham refusing to work with Robinson, might come from the time in Minnesota when Graham opted out of working with him in favor of Wahoo McDaniel. One time they were matched up and Graham approached Robinson backstage and made a show of wrapping razor blades in his taped up hands, warning Robinson that if he attempted to shoot on him, that Graham would "shred you from your face to the tip of your toes." This is all from Graham's book, with Billy making no mention of it.
In Bruce Hart's book, he tells a story about how they had The Stomper penciled in to challenge NWA World Champion Dory Funk Jr, but they had The Stomper face Billy Robinson 2 weeks prior. The two meshed so poorly that it devolved into an ugly shoot, with the fans chanting boring at them. Eventually The Stomper left and got counted out, before getting to the back and telling Stu he is quitting. They had no choice but to put Robinson in his place, and while the match was amazing and Robinson would be a good face for Stampede at the time, even Bruce calls him a bully and finishes it by saying "here's not to you Mr Robinson, there is no place in Heaven for those who prey."
After Billy wrestled Dory Funk Jr in an 1 hour draw, and after Dory invited Billy to the States to wrestle.
Before heading over to the States full time, Billy did tours in England, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong and Australia where he won the World title for a company that Jim Barnett was promoting.
Billy met Jack Brisco in Australia, shortly after winning the world title there. Billy remembers there first match together, saying that Jack was trying to show off a little too much so Billy said he showed him a simple catch hold that put poor Jack in the hospital for a couple days! Billy says the 2 became friends and calls him a good amateur wrestler and great guy.
Jack Brisco was the one who first told Billy about "shoot wrestlers" in the States. Billy never heard the term before but says a shooter is just another word for catch wrestling.
Billy mentions a rib that Jack Brisco and Dick Murdoch played on him during that Australia tour. Dick introduced Billy to chewing tobacco and purposely misinformed Billy on how to enjoy it. Billy swallowed the juice and vomiting all over the place.
Another time, Jack and Billy were up in Billy's hotel room all night, talking holds and even practicing them on one another. It was middle of the night, so Billy was in his underwear when Jack asked him to go get the newspaper from down the hall. The second Billy got in the hallway, Jack locked him out and made Billy sneak back to his room a few floors up in just his boxers. Billy said this was the nicest hotel in Australia, too.
Billy says he got his first taste of American pro wrestling in Hawaii, where he wrestled for several months. Every single guy who writes a wrestling book inevitably ends up doing a tour in Hawaii.
It was in Hawaii where Billy met Verne Gagne, who was "wrestling" a tour there, but really, Verne was on vacation and wrestling as a means to vacation for free. A lot of guys did that with Hawaii back in the day.
Billy and Verne wrestled a tag team match together, and after Verne made sure to watch how Billy was as a singles wrestler. Verne asked Billy to come back to the mainland in 1972.
Verne even asked Billy to train his son Greg, and they ended up inviting several other guys to a small wrestling camp. The group consisted of Verne's son Greg, Ric Flair, Ken Patera, Jim Bunzell (who would later team with Ken in AWA and be one half of the Killer Bee's in the WWE), Bob Bruggers (a former Miami Dophins linebacker), and Hossien Khosrow Vaziri (the future Iron Shiek).
An infamous story happened at this camp, early on, Shiek was the only one of the 6 who had amateur experience, and one day he was boasting to the others about how neither Verne or Billy could get him on his back in an amateur bout. Billy heard about this and challenged him immediately to spar. Shiek was successful in holding his stance on his knees, with Billy unable to turn him. So Billy viciously dropped his knee into Shiek's thigh, fucking him up bad. Then Billy casually rolled Shiek over and said "told you I could flip you."
Billy acknowledges Sheik as a very good amateur but says he has a big head a big mouth. He knew Shiek wasn't familiar with catch-as-catch-can, ankle submissions, neck cranks or double wristlocks and took advantage of him. Billy just casually says "I knelt on his thigh in a way we do. He couldn't walk for two days and couldn't work out at the camp for two weeks."
Billy remembers a match he did early on working for Verne, where a fan in the front row was being obnoxious and screaming at Billy all match. After the bout, Billy went and picked the fan up out of his seat and smacked him a few times and notes how the fan stayed quiet the rest of the show. When he got to the back he was chewed our by Verne who was afraid of a lawsuit. Billy says the fan ended up getting tickets to a future show.
In the middle of the book he goes on a rant about the history of how wrestling started in carnival tents and how champions made money. He calls Gorgeous George a "carnie wrestler" and credits him for accelerating the change in how the general audience looks at pro wrestlers. He resents the sentiment that all wrestlers are showmanship guys and puts over himself and others like Lou Thesz as legit tough guys. Billy is always putting over his skills as catch fighter in the book.
Billy says he and Lou Thesz became pretty good friends.
Billy says Lou Thesz would call Ed "Strangler" Louis as the best wrestler of all time, while Billy says he would call Billy Joyce the best of all time. But he says that Billy Joyce said that George Gregory was the best of all time.
Billy describes one time he wrestled Verne Gagne with Lou Thesz as the special referee. Billy says that he and Verne weren't getting along at this point, so throughout the match, Billy was sorta abusing Verne and taunting him the whole time. Billy says he kept turning to Lou and saying "Look at this Lou!" And "What do you think of this Lou?" As he took advantage of Verne. Eventually Lou piped up and said, "Jesus Billy, take it easy on him, he is the boss."
Ed "Strangler" Louise had an "open" contract, meaning that if you were matched up against him and wanted to shoot, Ed encouraged it. What a badass.
John Pesek was a wrestler with legit Olynpic credentials. John Pesek decided to shoot on Ed Lewis when Ed was very sick and had boils all over. It was a hard fight but Ed won. Lou Thesz resented Pesek for attempting this and even had him black balled by the NWA later in his career. Lou never forgave John for shooting on Ed when Ed was sick and never admitted Pesek was talented in any way. Billy clarifies that John Pesek was legitimate in the ring and tells this story as a way to show Lou Thesz power back in those days.
Ben Assirati was a freakishly strong guy who was known as a legit street fighter. Billy says he was a masochist who not only liked to hurt people in the ring, but also liked to get hurt, himself. Ben Assirati tried to start a rival promotion in England, and was challenged to a legitimate shoot fight by promoters (and world class ass kickers) George Gregory and Billy Joyce, but Ben turned them down. Of course, when Lou Thesz was NWA Champion and touring through England, Ben made a big show of challenging him beforehand and even got the newspapers to print about it. On the night of the show, Lou had police block the entrance and not let Ben in the arena. Billy tells this story as if Lou was turning down Ben's challenge for the way he turned down Gregory and Joyce. But Billy really puts over Ben Assirati as a scary guy in the ring and says that people actually died in the ring with Ben. Wild claim that I couldn't back up online, though there are a ton of stories to speak on Ben's notorioty in the ring.
In Lou Thesz memoir, he stated that he challenged Ben first multiple times and Ben refused all of them
Billy says that when he first got to the States, Lou Thesz and Karl Gotch were close friends who respected one another. But something happened that led to the two refusing to speak to one another.
Billy says a lot of old timers were hot heads, and gives an example of when his son was born. Billy named him Spencer after Winston Churchill, but Karl Gotch got angry at this and said it should have been a powerful name like Thor or something silly. Billy says that he and Karl nearly came to blows in the street over this. So whatever fractured the relationship between Gotch and Thesz, it was probably minor and petty.
When talking about modern wrestlers, Billy always refers to them in quotations. Like in his book he says "pro wrestlers" as if he is air quoting when talking about modern guys.
Billy says a big difference between wrestling in America vs England was how much guys talked in the ring in America (called spots). Billy says this never happens over seas and says he didn't call spots verbally.
Another big difference is how pay structure worked. In America it was all based on the house and what the promoter felt you earned. Over seas, Billy says he and the promoter would sit alone and discuss the pay prior to the match. Ticket sales were irrelevant, you always got paid what you agreed to. He says America is where all the backstabbing and politicking started in wrestling.
Billy says Danny Hodge was probably one of the most dangerous guys from his time wrestling and puts him over as one ofthe greatest American wrestlers ever.
Billy describes an interesting concept for wrestling promoters back in his day. Every promoter had what he called a "policman" wrestler. When a new guy came in and wanted to challenge the top draw, he would face this "policman" wrestler as the top draw or promoter watched closely. For example, if you were looking to challenge Lou Thesz, first you would face Ray Steele as Thesz watched and judged, then after he and Ray would talk about the guy together.
While working for Verne Gagne in the early 70s, Billy was asked to wrestle with a green as grass guy and Verne told Billy to go 10 minutes before he beat him. This baffled Billy and Verne had to explain its a taping and they need to put on a good show. Billy says he shouldn't have done that, especially considering how Verne would go on to screw with Billy's payoffs down the line.
Billy says he took the kid down at the 9 minute mark and stretched him, nearly breaking his elbow as he screamed and cried and tapped out. Billy says the guy gave an interview later and said pro wrestling is the nastiest and most dangerous sport there is. Billy chuckles at this but he took some rookie and killed any interest the kid had in wrestling while abusing him.
Billy tells a wild story about a short real fight he had with Peter Maivia in Japan. Billy, Peter and a few other guys were eating at a restaurant when Peter got upset at how the menu and ordering system worked. Peter got so worked up that Billy yelled at him to calm down. Later as Billy was walking towards his hotel, a drunk Peter Maivia approached Billy looking for a fight. Billy attempted to restrain him, telling Peter as he held him, "Peter stop it. I don't want to hurt you." But Peter in his enraged, drunken state goes to bite Billy in the neck! Billy, having been trained in self defense and combat like this, knew to tuck his chin to save his neck, but Peter still bit down hard and into Billy's face! Billy says he still had scars from this 40 or 50 years later! When blood started pouring down Billy's cheek, he snapped and laid out Peter with an unspecified number of strikes that left Peter with a broken nose and two black eyes. He says the fight lasted all of 15 seconds. Billy says he had to go to the hospital to get stitches and shot for a human bite.
The next morning, Billy nearly kicked Peter's door down and told Peter he is lucky to be alive. Billy points out how biting the neck is an attempt to kill him, so he gives Peter a chance to try again. A very sober Peter backed down immediately
Billy says he saw an interview on Tv where The Rock claimed that Peter Maivia bit Billy's eye out and he needed surgery. Billy refutes this claim and says the only eye surgery he ever had was when he was a kid.
Billy says a lot of guys would spar once or train once with someone and then spend their whole career saying they were trained by that person. He gave an example of one time, Bill Watts called him up asking about Johnny Eagles, who said he trained at Billy's gym. Billy had a good laugh because Eagles stopped by his gym one time to borrow money.
Billy often goes on tangents or rants about bullies and how much he hates them. He calls them cowards who always back down when challenged. I guess that's why he doesn't see himself as a bully, while almost everyone who came up after him clarifies him as the biggest bully they ever met. I've read several, several dozen wrestling book, and only 1 guy didn't have anything bad to say about Billy. That was Dynamite Kid, who didn't have anything nice to say about Billy either. He was just the only guy to bring up Billy Robinson and not rant about how awful of a person he was.
If the only guy to not have a negative story about you in Dynamite Kid, then you may be an asshole imo.
Billy says he was AWA World Heavyweight Champion for 24 hours "until they changed the decision on me." I'm not a big AWA buff so if anyone knows this story I would like to hear it.
Billy briefly mentions the Gagne produced movie in 1974 movie, "The Wrestler" but unfortunately Billy has no tales from the set or stories about it at all. Billy alongside Dusty Rhodes and Dick Murdoch all appeared in the film.
One time while in Alberta wrestling for Stampede, Billy was invited along with a couple other wrestlers to have dinner with the Primier of Alberta (like a State Governor) and at the event Billy was asked to join the premieres wife in the morning. So when the wife reminded Billy about coming by at 8am the next morning, Billy used British slang in response and said "Yes, I'll come knock you up at 8 o'clock tomorrow." Poor Billy had to explain that where he's from, someone waking you up in the morning by knocking on your door is a knocker upper.
Billy calls Canadian wrestler George Gordienko the strongest wrestler he ever got in the ring with. George Gordienko was originally hoping to be a doctor before becoming an exceptionally successful wrestler and someone who Lou Thesz once called one of the best of all time. Gordienko has been lost to time for the most part since he was banned from the United States during the McCarthy era. George married a woman who was the head of a communist party in America and poor George never got to return. He continued to wrestle in the UK until a bad ankle injury forced him to retire. He pivoted again and became a pretty succesful artist. Super fascinating story imo.
Over in Japan, Karl Gotch was working for Giant Baba in the Japan Pro Wrestling Alliance and their competition, the International Wrestling Enterprise contacted Billy Riley and asked who was the best catch wrestler available to counter Gotch, who was doing big business for JWA. Riley immediately suggested Robinson, who was quickly invited to Japan for the IWE.
Karl and Billy were friends but working for rival promotions in Japan, so they could only meet and get together in secret.
Billy ended up winning the World title for the IWE and they asked him to move his family to Japan long-term.
Billy wasn't having a good time coaching the young Japanese guys and complained to Karl Gotch that it seems like their minds are elsewhere. Karl advised Billy to hurt one of them to get them in line. Billy refused and said he was their coach, he wasn't supposed to hurt them. This is wild to hear from Billy, who's entire reputation among the next generation was that he was a bully who liked to hurt people.
A week later Billy got caught in a snowstorm after fighting with his wife, so he was in a bad mood as he walked into the gym to train the young guys. One of them mouthed off so Billy says he lined them all up and wrestled each of them into submission. He calls it an accident, bit says he ended up breaking one of their arms that day and after that all the young guys took everything more seriously and treated Billy with more respect and admiration.
Billy seems to have mixed feelings on his time in Japan since he did well and early on was treated well by promoters. He said in Japan if you have something someone needs, you're a God in their eyes and your treated as such. He says if you need something from someone though, they always make it clear that they are in charge and treat you poorly. He says he and Karl both started to really resent the culture there towards the end of their runs in Japan.
It was after or near the end of his Japan tour that Billy and his wife got divorced. He doesn't expand on it in any way in his book. Barely gets a passing mention.
In the mid-70s Billy was in rough shape, his drinking was out of control and his knee was beyond fucked. Billy started working odd jobs outside the wrestling business, including a security job gig in Las Vegas where he was training other security guards and he managed a gas station in Minnesota. Billy calls this the lowest point of his life and says the gas station job was the most boring thing he ever did in his life.
Antonio Inoki contacted Billy when he was running the gas station and invited him to Japan for a big celebration show where they would have a match. Billy doesn't speak highly of the match and says he just had knee surgery and could barely get in the ring, but if you look up reports on his 1975 match with Inoki, all you see is massive, massive praise and people calling it one of the best matches ever at the time.
Billy calls Inoki the best Japanese wrestler of all time.
Yuko Miyato of The Union of Wrestling Forces International (UWFI) contacted Billy and sent him to Nashville to train guys to go to Japan for them and Billy says between himself and Karl Gotch, every wrestler they trained went on to be world champions. Billy lists Shigeo Miyato and Nobuhiko Takada as examples.
Billy says Yuko Miyato "really saved me." Billy says he was drinking excessively and gained a ton of weight after the divorce, and that his knees and hips had to be replaced. Billy says his nervous system was fucked up from all the years of grappling and he couldn't effectively train anymore. He got a 2nd life back in Japan and even became the head coach at his old Snake Pit gym after Riley passed away in 1977. Billy says he ended spending 15 years in Japan training the next generation of catch/mma fighters.
Billy talks about the difference in training Japanese guys compared to others, since Japanese guys are more scientific and teach techniques down to the specificity. Billy didn't teach like that, he taught concepts and ideas that anyone could use on anyone else. He struggled to get some guys over the "belt system" in Japan where a brown belt guy would never challenge a black belt guys. Billy says anyone can beat the best, regardless of their belt.
Near the end of the book, Billy again rants about modern guys and how they know one or two moves and consider themselves catch style wrestlers. Billy also rants again about bullies and how you don't train people by taking advantage of them. (Tell that to Iron Sheik) Billy cites Verne Gagne as an example of a guy who didn't know how to spar or lock in submissions, and would train guys by exhausting them before he jumped on them and shot for a hold. Billy says he and Karl Gotch resented that and made sure their training camps were the opposite of that. It's funny because Billy literally did this stuff with Verne Gagne! Maybe he is implying that he learned then not to that stuff, but he doesn't outright say it. Billy as as guilty of bullying as the Verne imo.
Billy thinks modern MMA is shooting themselves in the foot for not having pinfalls. He says that fighting off your back is exciting and opens the door for more to be done. He says that when a guy is trying not to get pinned, he may leave an opening somewhere for the other guy to take advantage of.
Billy complains how modern boxers are looking for knockouts and training to knock people out. He says that's not how it's done, you fight and wait for the opening, Billy says you wait for the knockout to come to you, you don't go looking for it. He laments the same thing in submissions as well, saying you don't go looking to lock in a submission, you maneuver around and wait for the opening to present itself. You wait for the submission to come to you. He is extremely critical of modern "catch style" wrestlers/ fighters.
Billy is critical of modern wrestling and fighting having such short time limits, saying that short 2 or 3 minute rounds means that it's all about power.
The book ends with Billy ranting about modern fighters and amateur wrestlers and how Catch wrestling was the greatest sport of all time. I hope I love something as much as Billy loved catch-as-catch-can wrestling.
