Fever, sore throat, white spots on tonsils - rapid strep/flu/covid swab all came back negative. Throat culture results will take 3-5 days and white spots appear to be spreading - should I begin antibiotics, wait for the culture results, or go back for another rapid strep swab?

2024.05.21 06:57 SolipsistSmokehound Fever, sore throat, white spots on tonsils - rapid strep/flu/covid swab all came back negative. Throat culture results will take 3-5 days and white spots appear to be spreading - should I begin antibiotics, wait for the culture results, or go back for another rapid strep swab?

I think the title basically covers it. I’m about 48 hours in to a bout of fever and sore throat with white spots on my tonsils. My fever isn’t terribly high (fluctuates between 98.9 and 100.7), but it’s very rare for me to have a fever. I went to an urgent care and was swabbed for strep, influenza, and covid, all of which came back negative. However, the PA said he probably wanted to start me on antibiotics due to my symptoms and the fact that it was very early in my infection, so I could possibly have falsely tested negative for strep. He said alternatively I could tough it out and wait for the throat culture results.
I do not want to take antibiotics unnecessarily, so I asked him to go ahead and order the antibiotics (amoxicillin/clavulanate 875/125mg 2x/day for 10 days), but I might hold off on taking them until I get the throat culture results, unless I begin to feel worse.
I don’t feel any worse and my fever seems to be holding at the same moderate temperature range (most recently it was 98.8F, but just a couple hours ago was 100.4), however, looking my throat, the white spots appear to have dramatically multiplied and spread. Previously it looked like there was maybe 3 white spots per tonsil, now it appears to be more like 7-10 spots per tonsil, and on the left side, the spots appear to be spreading down into my throat, out of sight.
The appearance of these spots multiplying and spreading nearly frightened me into taking the amox/clav, but I do not want to take unnecessary antibiotics for what has thus far tested negative for strep and may well be a viral infection. Also, I would describe my throat pain as moderate, even mild at times, and apparently strep throat pain is like swallowing glass, so this is giving me pause as well.
Do you think I should begin taking the amox/clav now, wait possibly another 4 days for the throat culture, or go back to urgent care for another rapid strep swab tomorrow? Perhaps I’m being a bit overly cautious about not taking the antibiotics and I should just go ahead and take them even if it turns out they were unnecessary? I haven’t taken antibiotics of any kind in 15 years.

2024.05.18 04:14 rachel-maryjane I (25F) was bit by a dog with a Clostridium infection, how bad is this?

TL;DR - My doctor gave me “Amox-Clav 875-125mg” to take twice a day for a week and drew a line around the borders, told me to call him if it keeps getting worse. There was no pus or anything to culture so it’s not even guaranteed to be infected, but it’s pretty red, painful, and puffy. Vet says the dog has a Clostridium infection but didn’t say which type. I’m wondering if it’s C.diff and what that means for my bite infection
Images of bite progression from when it first happened to now
Bite happened a little over 24hr ago and it didn’t seem so bad at first. Only her canine tooth broke the skin and it wasn’t deep at all. It was the back of my hand which is pretty boney with not much flesh, so it didn’t really bleed much at all but it did ooze a little lymph over the next few hours and overnight.
It didn’t hurt much and I immediately went to wash it in the sink after she bit me, but the second the cold water touched it I felt searing pain and almost passed out, not sure what that was about 😅 so I sat down for about 30min before getting up to spray it with sterile saline wound wash and got around to washing it with soap an hour after that.
The dog that bit me is my own, she’s up to date on all vaccines so rabies and such isn’t a concern. But she has been sick this week with what the vet says is a Clostridium infection. 3 days ago she was having a lot of bloody diarrhea and vomiting, but luckily after coming back from the vet with antibiotics she’s been acting fine since.
I was hoping the puffy red swelling was just because the bite was on a thin boney area. And I’m really disappointed because I’ve been working so hard in the last couple months to improve the diversity of my gut microbiome due to other health issues, and the antibiotics kind of ruin that. Of course I will take them, but I’m wondering what I might expect for the next couple days if this antibiotic doesn’t work.
My brother got bit by a dog a few years ago on his finger and somehow bacteria from the little bite quickly liquified the tendon in his hand and now even after surgery he can’t fully make a fist, so I’m scared about what to expect when I got bit in the middle of the back of my hand. Especially if it’s the commonly antibiotic resistant strain of C.diff 😭

2024.05.10 04:58 glizzerd12 Sick from antibiotics

Hi! I recently had a bad illness (symptoms started about 1.5 weeks ago) that began with a very swollen right lymph node in my neck a few days prior to having any symptoms. After the first ER visit I was negative for strep so they said it was likely viral pharyngitis but it later progressed into high fevers, extreme headaches, nausea and pain in my throat to the point i couldn’t eat anything. After returning they tested for mono which was negative so they said it was likely an infection and I was given augmentin (amox clav) 2x a day 875 mg. After taking it I noticed the symptoms of the illness improved but now I had a new debilitating set of symptoms. I was so nauseous I would be gagging forcing myself to eat and would get so dizzy and lightheaded I could not stand for sometimes hours at a time. I also noticed swelling in my face, tightness in my throat and headaches that were so bad I would wake up from my sleep that felt different than the headaches I had before. I ended up calling the doctor who prescribed the antibiotics and he said to stop them all together and not prescribe something else. Yesterday (the first day I had not taken them) I was able to eat a normal meal for me for the first time in 1.5 weeks after eating bites of food and low calories all week. I ended up throwing it up 5 hours later. I drank some gatorade, a probiotic drink and a protein shake after to try to recover the nutrients. Today I still feel extremely nauseous and weak. Is this normal after coming off antibiotics? I really want to begin going back to my normal life since I haven’t been able to work or barely leave the house in a week and a half but it’s hard when I’m still not able to eat normally and feel so weak. Is there anything I can do to feel better quickly? Has anyone else experienced this? Sorry this is a lot to read but I wanted to include all the details!

2024.05.09 18:13 Chaya14 35f echastion, swollen lymph nodes could this be parvovirus b19 lymphadenopathy?

Age 35, female, 5'6" 240lbs caucasian, going on 3 weeks Southern USA- diagnosed exsisting conditions: low thyroid, migraines, TMJ. Current medications: zyrtec, seasonique, frova (when needed)and cyclobenzaprine. Dr prescribed amox clav 875-125 for whatever this is.
For the last 3 weeks I have been excessively tired, like falling asleep at work at 10am and 2pm tired. I had a runny nose and assumed allergies. On 4/27 i noticed my superficial parotid lymph node under my left ear was swollen. By 4/28 it was about 2 inches and could be seen when i turned my head. By 5/1 all the superficial anterior cervical nodes on the back of my head had swollen to dime size and were protruding and painful. 5/2 the other parotid and submandibular nodes had swollen too. My right supraclavicular node was swollen and visible. My right arm turned red and hot from my shoulder to mid forearm and my chest and arms began to itch excessively. 5/4 the red and heat was gone on my arm but my wrists and arms were swollen. Wrist joints, knees, ankles shoulders all extremely painful, felt heavy and hard to move or close hands. Left and right arms shot pain through when lifting too high and caused weakness in the hands to where i would drop things. I started having nightly diarrhea but no fevers. I had a dr appointment 5/7 and had bloodwork. Was given antibiotics but I have had no change. All nodes still swollen, the joint pain and extremity heaviness, tiredness, diarrhea is all still active. Blood results today CBC was all in normal range except Rbc was 3.77. Chloride was high at 107, Carbon dioxide low at 17. ALT SGPT high at 76. C reactive protein was high at 37. My daughters school just called and said she appears to have the fifths disease rash on her arms and cheeks (we noticed the arms last night and thought she rubbed on a Weird plant or something) they said she isnt contagious now. Does this sound likely to be parvovirus b19 lymphadenopathy on my end? From reading it seems possible and that this may take a while to go away. Especially the pain.

2024.05.05 03:54 bowlingniko The cure

I took Amox clav 875 mg 2 times a day, physical fitness, take it slow , then ramp it up. Keep your heart rate constantly beating . Walk in a circle in a park, as fast pace as possible. Keep taking amox and fitness until you feel sharp again. Avoid this sub. Been hauling for 5 months before i decided to ask doctors for amox.
Edit: Im totally off the amox. I was only on it for 5 days so i doubt it did much. It definitely helped a bit but perhaps it was a placebo. I forced myself to walk long distances and kept my heartrate up while on Amox so maybe the amox did nothing and it was just the bloodflow of my body. Perhaps I thought the amox made me better so it gave me the motivation to move. Yes you will crash when you begin to move, you will come back from the crash better day after day, just don't faint in the streets.
Stay off this sub, its like a bucket of crabs, you guys will drag each other down

2024.04.27 20:37 Ok-Duck9106 Adult, 50’s getting odd infections

I am female, 50’s, overweight. Vaccinated. I got influenza A in December 24 and it took till end of February feel better. I was vaccinated, can’t imagine how bad it would have been if I was not.
Last Thursday I started feeling unwell after traveling, and went to urgent care on Sunday. At that Sunday Urgent Care appointment, I was diagnosed with HFMD, as I had blisters in my throat, cough, fever, body aches and it seemed to fit the bill, but they took a throat culture just in case. They just thought it odd to see such a severe infection in an adult. I was sent home with cough meds and told to take Tylenol for the pain, which has had little to no impact on the pain or swelling in my throat. Rapid step test was negative, no Covid, no flu.
Tuesday, I could not take the pain and went to the ER in the night, the throat pain was insane, cough, body aches, extreme headache, congestion, and ear pain and could not hear out my left hear. The HFMD apparently had spread to my sinuses, ear, etc, and now I have a raging ear infection. They gave me the magic mouthwash, cough meds, told me to continue with the Tylenol and drink water, and amoxicillin, and told me to ride it out. Mind you, every day was getting worse.
Thursday the culture came back for Haemophilus influenzae B, and Urgent Care from Sunday called to put me on antibiotics, when I told them of the headache, pain and fever, they suggested I go to the ER for a spinal tap to be checked for Meningitis. I went, the ER, they didn’t think a spinal tap was needed, and put me on a different antibiotic Amox-Clav 875-125 mg tablets once a day. So was it HFMD and this Haemophilus Influenzae B, or just the latter? I did not get a clear answer.
I feel terrible, but the swelling in my throat has improved and the lidocaine wash they gave me is helpful, as is alternating between advil and Tylenol, decongestant and my head is much less painful, ear is less painful and throat pain is a bit more tolerable. So I am hopeful that the new antibiotics are working.
I am concerned that I am getting these severe illnesses and trying to figure out what questions I need to ask my primary to determine why this is happening. My blood panel that was done on Tuesday had a few items that were high, but nothing that indicated to the doctor that there was something glaringly autoimmune going on.
Could there be something lowering my immune system making me more vulnerable to these infections? what tests should I ask for from my Primary to determine root cause? Can I get a test to identify what boosters I need?
I do have psoriasis and asthma. Autoimmune issues run in my family(rheumatoid arthritis, Lupus), as do thyroid issues, (sister had thyroid cancer, several cousins on thyroid meds for various thyroid issues). Not sure if that is relevant. I am not a diabetic, but I am overweight.
I just need to not get this sick again. I am starting to fear what will I get next, and want to head it off at the pass.

2024.04.20 07:16 Small_Owl_7268 Chronic Mastoiditis

Male, 22 years old, 5’11, 195lbs currently taking naproxen 500mg for my neck pain So for starters I’ve had ear infections my whole life (currently 22yo). As of February 2024 I was diagnosed with chronic mastoiditis via CT scan and perforated ear drum , I’ve never had noticeable trouble and symptoms besides minor hearing loss and occasional aching in the affected ear. But for the past month or so I’ve been having a lot of issues popping up that I can’t be certain are associated with my condition. Neck pain, ear fullness and aching on occasion, jaw tingling, eye pressure and slight strain. They all come and go but I haven’t gone a day without experiencing one or the other. I’ve gone to the ER twice within the past two weeks and I’ve been dismissed about it. I’ve been extremely anxious for these last few weeks about a possible abscess spreading as I wait longer and longer for any real treatment. I just finished a prescription of oral antibiotics (amox-clav 875/125) and it helped subside my ear aches but everything else remained. I have an appointment with another ENT for second opinion in may 23 and an otolaryngologist appointment on July 11 but I feel like waiting that long will certainly lead to more complications.. am I overthinking all of this? I went undiagnosed since my first notice of the perforated eardrum from an urgent care specialist about 2-3 years ago. Should I Go back to the er for this and not mention my diagnosis as that seems to make them believe I have health anxiety and am over reacting? These symptoms are very real and whether I am anxious or not I feel them all day everyday? Could this be an early sign of meningitis/ a brain abscess? These are my biggest concerns as I also have a slight headache day to day on and off.I am experiencing no fever but all my current pains are in the surrounding area of my affected ear. Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts

Looking for some relief from my symptoms. Just got a positive result for SIBO and I’ve been struggling with symptoms like stomach pain, nausea, bloating, loss of appetite, acid reflux for over a month and nothing relieves them. I have these symptoms from when I wake up to when I go to sleep. I have just started amox-clav 875-125 2x a day but I honestly can’t deal with these symptoms anymore I’m so uncomfortable constantly. Any advice or success with these antibiotics??

2024.02.28 02:23 chubby_the_frog Should I be worried about prostate cancer or could this be a UTI?

Hello, I am a 23 almost 24 year old 5ft 11' 280 white male. I have been with my girlfriend (who is my first sexual partner) for a little over 2 years now. On occasion after intercourse I have noticed a bit of trouble urinating. Sometimes I would urinate, then feel the urge to continue only minutes later as if I didn't finish all the way. I have never thought too much of this, we don't do too often and it didn't happen everytime. Also seemed like there might just be some difficulty making that transition quickly so I never worried.
For about the past week though, I have noticed a similar type phenomenon happening almost every time I have to urinate. I have no problems going, no blood or anything crazy like that. Seems like overall just a bit of discomfort towards the head of the penis, not a intolerable burning, just the feeling as if I am not getting it all out. I seem to be going a bit more frequently too. The biggest annoyance however is the sensation that I just went to the restroom, I go to lay down at night or continue my day, and get the feeling that I have to run back only for a bit more to come out. I might have to do this a few times holding myself a few different ways before my body lets me continue on about my business and I can finally stop. Again, each time some more does come out, but only a bit (like a small stream to a few squirts). This has only seemed to be a persistent issue the past few days/week.
I am currently almost done (2 more pills left) with a 7-day augmentin (amox-clav 875-125mg big white pills) dose as I had a sinus infection last week. Still have some coughing with light phlem/morning mucus. I also take 20mg Omeprazole (or prilosec) once a day as I have LPR (Laryngopharyngeal reflux) for about 1.5 years now. I use to be on Nexium but switched to prilosec about 2-3 months ago as it's more helpful for heartburn. In terms of sexual health we are both eachothers first and have never had any visual problems.
I tried looking into my symptoms (I know the whole google thing isn't always the best) but I don't really know how to describe what I feel, more-so just what happens. The concerning thing for me is my father did have prostate cancer, so of course when I look up those symptoms and see matches I get worried. Also have a bit of medical anxiety. I know the chance of that is more rare, but I want to be mindful. I have never had a UTI so I don't know what that feels like, but I see the symptoms can be somewhat similar. Should I go get a PSA test via a blood drawl? Am I overthinking this? Something just feels a bit off.

2024.01.28 19:51 starriss First time diagnosis of diverticulitis- I was able to deal with the pain last night because of this sub.

I have had some symptoms of diverticulitis in the past but this time it was more intense, so I went to urgent care yesterday. I was having cramping across my lower abdomen with sharp pain in left lower abdomen. The doctor diagnosed diverticulitis and prescribed AMOX-CLAV 875-125 x 3 per day x 10 days. I was able to pick it up today and just took first one.
Overnight I woke up around 2:30am with intense stabbing pain in my lower left abdomen, no more cramping, and no fevechills. I came on this sub and searched “sleep” and “ER” and found so much help! I was so scared that maybe it was something more that I would need a CT scan. Thank you all for sharing your experiences. After reading so much, I took some Tylenol and got my heating pad. It took the edge off and I was able to fall back to sleep around 4.
Woke up around 8:00am with some pain but not as bad as it was at 2:30am. It’s 10:45am here and so far I’ve had jello and ensure clear. I’m really hungry but scared to try to eat soft foods right now. I’ve only been on all liquids for nearly 24 hours. I had toast yesterday morning and that was it until the jello and broth later on.
I just wanted to say thank you all for sharing your experiences which helped me tremendously overnight. I had read through the pain levels and going by the pain scale example on the wiki page, I was at a 5-6 so I didn’t think it really warranted an ER visit, and I just need to ride it out. I’m resting now and crossing my fingers for no diarrhea from the antibiotics.

I am currently on antibiotics for infected rectal fissure. I also got a rectal prolapse right before the fissure. I have been taking Restoralax one dose dail, and I only have one bowel movement a day. I now have a yeast infection from the antibiotics I'm still on it's been 9 days. I've tried over counter options canestan and it's all red and swollen so I'm going to take diflucan - fluconazole. I read that taking this, and Restoralax can cause a heart issue, prolonged QT and cardiac arrest. Is this safe? Should I stop taking the Restoralax and how do I go to the bathroom. I stopped about 2 days ago, but my stools are becoming an issue again.

2024.01.08 18:27 janus_teakettle9120 Dizziness 7 days after eardrum rupture - nurses's line says to go to ED? Is this really ED-worthy?

37F, 5'10", 180lbs, white, no current meds or chronic conditions. USA.
7 days ago, I went in to urgent care for ear pain (I had been recovering from strep throat previously). Doc said I had a bad ear infection, prescribed Amox-Clav 875-125mg twice daily for 7 days (since completed). He warned me the eardrum would probably rupture, which it did about 10 hours later. He said to schedule an appointment with ENT if that happened, and I scheduled for the first available appointment in early February.
I’ve had on-and-off dizziness since then, usually mild but sometimes “grab onto the wall so I don’t fall over” level of dizziness. I’ve had some mild numbness around my affected ear which has spread to that side of my face, and I’ve got muscle weakness on the same side as the ear infection that seems to be getting very gradually worse. In the last 2-3 days, I can smile, but it’s a bit lopsided (both sides move). I have some trouble closing the eye on that side - I can close it like 90% of the way but need to use my fingers to fully close it, and then I can keep it closed. Drinking water leads to some leakage out of the affected side if I’m not careful, and one side of my tongue is numb. I also have no hearing in the affected ear (or very minimal - it’s hard to tell). I can feel my heartbeat in the affected ear. The ear is still leaking some manilla-colored fluid, but the volume of fluid is about 20% of what it was the first few days when I was soaking through a towel and staining the pillowcase with red/pink fluid. I have no pain other than TMJ pain that I have at baseline, although the TMJ pain is only on the affected side right now. I have no weakness or numbness on that side of my body except for the areas near my ear.
I called the nurse’s hotline to ask if it’s okay to wait until my appointment in early February, or if I need to go in sooner. She said I needed to call 911 and go to the ED because I have symptoms of a stroke. I’m very skeptical, and I haven’t had any abrupt change in symptoms that would warrant an emergency.
Do I go to the ED? Wait until February? Try to find an appointment before then?
Thanks much.

2024.01.04 19:44 Lonely_Wrap_371 Antibiotics

Called my doctor I missed a dose this morning she says to take it when I get it (had to refill because I threw away some tablets) but my second dose is at 8pm and if I take the dose around 4 or 5pm wouldn’t I overdose if I went and take it again in a few hours later? She never checked on me and never question me if what I’m concern. I don’t know if I should just wait and take my second dose at 8pm and start tomorrow at 8am. It’s every 12 hours too.
8am takes dose 8pm takes dose
Today 8am didn’t take dose 8pm I will
(Do I still take my dose it’s going to be a few hours until I get around 4 or 5 pm)

2023.12.24 02:07 PM_ME_GREEN_THINGS Is this overkill?

I've been having sinus issues since September (lack of smell and taste that's constantly on and off, congestion, head and ears felt stuffy/clogged) that led up to me getting headaches and then finally realizing that I had a 102 fever in October. I did a virtual doctor visit and was prescribed amox-clav for a week; it helped with the headaches and fever but everything else was the same. I broke down on Thanksgiving because I couldn't taste any food and finally made an ENT appointment. Since then, I've actually been much better; my sense of smell and taste is only gone in the mornings and is fine 90% of the day now. I still feel like there's pressure in my ears, but I'm not as congested as I was, either. I went to my ENT appointment the other day anyways, and the doc checked out my nose with a camera; she said there was some inflammation and discharge. Even though I've been feeling better, she still seemed concerned that this had been going on for a few months and prescribed me a bunch of stuff which I'm a little hesitant about, so I wanted some advice. Other than a daily neti pot rinse and azelastine nasal spray 0.1% (which I think could help with my general seasonal allergies so I'm not worried about that), I was also prescribed more amox-clav (875-125mg) to be taken twice a day for 3 weeks, and prednisone 10 MG for 10 days that will be tapered down each day. I feel like this might be a lot for what I'm experiencing considering that I'm better than how I was last month but I'm not sure. Other than the amox-clav being the size of horse pills and fear of antibiotic resistance, it's the prednisone that I'm the most iffy about. I've taken it before a few times when my asthma has gotten really bad and it always made me feel weird - I'd get anxious, random body aches, and just feel off. I'm wondering if these might be overkill?

A few months ago noticed that my teeth were hurting upper left the 2 behind k9 giving me migraine headaches so I went to the endo and he told me we would do the one that hurt and then if that didn’t fix it we would do the one next to it too. Got one done and left. Then in a separate incident my back molar crown fell off and while I was getting it recemented the nerve was exposed, it was just bad luck. (I’m not the type who blames people and realize that it can happen to even the best dentists, I used to work as a dental assistant in high school so I have some understanding.) I went back and got the root canal on the back molar. About a month later I was having very bad headaches, chills, feeling hot in my head, clammy sweats and was ignoring it for a very long time thinking my body could fight whatever it was. I didn’t even know it was my teeth until finally it got to the point where both my ears were infected, and was ringing very loudly nonstop. I was lightheaded, irritable, couldn’t think clearly at all, even my speech was a little slurred so I went to urgent care and was prescribed 500 mg Amox 2x a day. Amox seemed to make it better but then on the 4th or 5th day chills and same feeling of malaise was coming back. Called my GP and he upped my dose to 875 amox 250 clav for 10 days. My teeth started to hurt very much upper left area and I felt like the back molar root canal was starting to go bad too so I went back to the endo he gave me another root canal in the upper left tooth behind the k9 next to the one he did. Afterward I told him I thought there was also something wrong with the back molar root canal he did ( it had a very curved root) he insisted it was the bite and adjusted them too low. (instinctively I knew there was something wrong bec I couldn’t bite down and could smell the infection seeping from the tooth into my throat) I insisted something was wrong and and told him I even felt septic. I had to repeat that there was an infection and he told me to wait until after the antibiotics were done 7 more days of suffering. I went back yesterday, he cleaned it out and redid the root canal but I don’t think it’s fixed bec I believe only 1 canal was cleaned out and my root is now spasming and I still have lots of pain when biting down and the headaches and weakness is coming back. The ears a ringing a bit again too, but not as loudly.
He also didn’t seem too confident about the problem being fixed. He does seem very busy and does the root canal in 1 hour slot times. I think I should go with another endodontist at this point but I just wanted to get some other opinions. Here are some of the X-rays of the lower molar root canal redo. I asked the office for all of them but these are the ones they sent. Thank you so much in advance for any help. The first pic is post and 2nd pic is pre operative.

2023.12.18 15:58 I-Cant-hear Ear Infection in Left Ear, Sudden Hearing Loss in Right Ear

Demos: 33F, 5'6", 140 lbs, white/not hispanic or latino
I have had ear canal issues since childhood ("tiny ear canals" and impacted ear wax), and used to get my ears irrigated regularly. Not so much anymore. For background: I have had mild hearing loss in my left ear for almost a year now ("fullness" sensation; all visits to MD have not produced any results except "I can see everything I'm supposed to" in my ear canal). For the last 5-6 months, I have had clear fluid buildup in both ears that I have to regularly absorb with a Q-tip. If I don't remove it, it fills up inside my ear and causes hearing loss. Last MD visit this was brought up, and the MD thought it was allergies and recommended either nasal decongestant or allergy meds. I've been taking phenylephrine hydrochloride 1% nasal spray off and on for weeks since then. It has not really helped with the fluid buildup. It happens most in the mornings and evenings. It is very annoying but not painful.
Anyway... I've never really had ear infections that I can remember. I certainly have one now in my left ear (diagnosed Saturday) and have been on oral amox-clav 875-125 mg and ofloxacin otic solution .3%, have been on both since Saturday night. Have been taking ibuprofen and acetaminophen for pain.
All day yesterday my right ear was draining that same clear fluid excessively, continuously, all day long, way more than usual, to where I had to use a little piece of paper towel to stick in my ear to try and wick the liquid. Otherwise it would sit in my ear and I'd be unable to hear. My husband and I both think that the fluid buildup is worse than usual because my left ear is currently blocked from infection.
This morning I woke up at 3 in the morning almost completely deaf (left ear blocked with ear infection, right ear blocked by I-don't-know, but very full and I can't hear out of it). My right ear doesn't hurt other than skin irritation from putting paper towel in there the day before. I have not tried any earwax removal on my right ear because I've been afraid to. I don't know what the clear liquid is - how likely is it that it's an eardrum tear? Called my MD and called an ENT specialist, no one can get me in today.
Is this an emergency? should I go to the ER? Should I try using debrox / ear cleaning solutions (is it safe for me to do so)?

2023.12.04 16:38 Muurica Sudden SEVERE achillies pain in both heels, need help!

I am a Sous chef, female, 5’2”, about 140 lbs, and turned 32 exactly two weeks ago. I currently take adderall 30mg tablets, and have been taking the recommended dose of Imodium for the last few days.
The diarrhea is a separate issue, I’m assuming, but just in case here is some quick info about that: I had an injury on my right index finger that became very infected. An ER doctor put me on a 1 week regimen on “AMOX/K CLAV 875-125 TAB NORT”, to take 2x a day beginning on 10/11. This did not clear the infection, so an urgent care doctor prescribed me both “CLINDAMYCIN 300 MG CAP AURO”, to take 3x a day, and “SMZ-TMP 400-80 MG TAB AURO” to take 2x a day, starting in 11/01. -my assumption is that my prolonged diarrhea is due to those antibiotic rounds. However, I am not a doctor, so for all I know, these two things could be related?
Anyway, back to my current pressing issue: Tonight, nearing the end of closing, (5+ hours ago) suddenly BOTH my Achilles began hurting and the pain has only been getting worse. Before leaving the restaurant (1-2hours after the pain began), i couldn't really walk without whatever I could make into an on-the-fly Cain or walker. When I got home, both my ankles started swelling, and fast forward to this current minute, my boyfriend just had to carry me to my bathroom. Walking and/or standing is now pretty much intolerable. This pain came out of nowhere, with no slight discomfort beforehand or clue anything was wrong.
My boyfriend is taking me to the er in the morning, and I will most likely be calling out of work. However, this is very scary and alarming to me because this has never happened before and I had zero symptoms before suddenly becoming basically immobile.
