2024.05.21 20:19 Zyhre Hail Damage on already Hail Damaged Vehicle. Claims Questions.

Hello,
We bought our van with Hail damage on it from a dealership. However, it has recently hailed and actually did even more damage (like broken windshield) and some pretty aggressive new dents that is showing the bare metal underneath.
We are worried about rusting if we don't make a claim, but, also worried that we'll be hit for some form of insurance fraud if we do.
What is the best course of action here?
Will the insurance company know that we bought it damaged?
We currently have Progressive full coverage if it matters.

2024.05.21 20:08 Ok-Intention-1995 Lender Placed Insurance

NYS- first time home owner, insurance policy lapsed 10/2023 and was not notified until I received a letter from our mortgage company telling us our house is uninsured 4/2024. As soon as I got that letter I got a new policy through a different carrier. Was told by my mortgage company I would be charged each day the house was uninsured, of course they donā€™t know how much. Does anyone have an idea?

2024.05.21 20:06 These_Ad7301 Concerned I Bought a Bad Plan- 26 yo Student

I'm a 26 year old medical student who was kicked off my parents' BCBS plan about 9 months ago. I originally had spoken with BCBS and they agreed to extend my coverage through COBRA, but once I made my first payment and called to confirm my coverage my insurance agent had "left the office" for a different job. I was told there was no proof of my payment or insurance coverage, that they had "cleaned their desk out" there was "nothing they could do". At this time my board exams were starting up, so my parents helped me find coverage as I was incredibly short on time. They sent me a limited benefit multiplan that they had signed me up for under "Smart Health 100A with the included Discount Health benefits from RNG Advisors LLC". Included with this was Outlook vision coverage.
Since signing up, I have had issues with coverage (from vision to PCP to urgent cares). At a recent optometrist appointment for contacts I was told my insurance was not covered. I was in need of vison on a time crunch, thus just paid out of pocket for the visit. At this visit, I was unfortunately told I have very concerning signs for glaucoma along with my chronic cataracts. I have called almost every ophthalmologist in my area, and they have not heard of this insurance. When I call the insurance company, they tell me the offices are not doing their jobs to properly understand that I am covered. I'm not sure what to do, at this point I am considering cancelling the plan as I am seriously concerned for legitimacy and signing up for Medicaid (I am a student on loans, many of my classmates opt for medicaid as our school health insurance is abysmal for the high cost). At least with Medicaid I would get some sort of treatment, even if it wasn't with a provider I wanted.
Any help with this is seriously appreciated. I was urged by my optometrist that I need close follow up and treatment soon, but no ophthalmologist office will schedule me without proof that my insurance is legit. I would like to not lose my vision before I can even become an MD lol so any guidance on this I am genuinely thankful for.

2024.05.21 20:00 StudioSuccessful7640 Can i sue my small car insurance company???

My car was involved in a theft back in February 2024. I reached a settlement amount with my car insurance company for about eight grand unfortunately, the next day they found my car and I reported it to the insurance so now instead of accepting the payout for a total loss I had to deal with the damages. I asked my adjuster if Hyundai was a good body shop and if it would be approved and she told me yes I just received the estimate from Hyundai and itā€™s going to run me about $3800. I submitted it to my adjuster and she sent me back a supplement estimate for $700 nowhere near what I need for the repairs I didnā€™t sign a thing and I intend to escalate it at this matter because my adjuster just seems careless and she even possibly had reported an incorrect amount Now itā€™s been about four months. Is this something that I could take to court? Please advise. I am very frustrated.

2024.05.21 19:56 PianoObvious6824 [NJ] - my spouse and I are having another child. I need to add my new child to my health insurance since its a qualifying event. However I DONT want my boss or anyone in my company to know I had another child (aside from essential need to know HR related employees). Is there a way to do this?

Long story short is I cant take parental leave (by choice). Some lady at my job got offered another role in a different dept and her old role really sucks. They offered me her old role but I said no as fast as I could. From what I can tell she cant leave and they wont fill her old position so shes stuck doing her crappy role. Its been 8 months and shes still doing it. I KNOW if I leave they will force me into her job with some sly corporate mumbo-jumbo ā€œoh welcome back, since you been gone there has been some restructure and organic business changes blah balh balhā€ and give me her old role or give me her old "responsibilities"
I build up a bunch of vacation days and can help my spouse with the new baby as well as my remote/hybrid work. Im worried HR will inform my boss or dept of my new child when it kinda has nothing to do with them. Is there some type of protection for me? Can I tell HR, please add my newest child and donā€™t tell anyone? Isnt it personal for me/protected if I donā€™t want other EEā€™s in my company knowing my business?

2024.05.21 19:49 skoltrain84 Roof Insurance Question

Due to hail damage we have filed and have an approved claim with our insurance company (Travelers). Seems pretty straightforward and we have a contractor that we've worked with in the past for other remodeling on the exterior of our house.
Weird thing is though, multiple times our contractor has mentioned that we have the option of foregoing some of the smaller fixes ( a couple gutters, 1 downspout, 1 window screen) and keeping the ACV value for those items instead. Is this a normal practice? Is it Legal? Is insurance ok with that? Any experience with a similar situation?

2024.05.21 19:43 FrostTheAlbino Need advice.

Hello,
I have a question about the legality of a situation my job is putting me in. I was injured at work, my superior didn't report the injury, so I had to report it myself days later to the admin team. They sent me to the doctor and started me on physical therapy. I had to reach out to their insurance company and they started paying me at my full pay. I also don't know if they've reported my injury to the the Illinois Department of Labor. I've now finished my PT but am still injured and being seen by a specialist. I got a call from my job and told that I have to return and do light duty and work another position for less money and less hours. I make 17/hr with 40 hours a week and they want to put me in a position where I'll be making 14/hr and only have 32 hours a week. Is this legal? Thanks in advance!

2024.05.21 19:42 whothehelldothinkiam Seeking advice, other driver's insurance hung up on me, adjuster will not return calls. I am not at fault.

**Sorry for the lengthy post in advance*\*
My car was sideswiped on the right side on May 7th. I was driving straight when the other Driver tried to merge into traffic after being stopped beside a yellow curb. Somehow the other Driver didn't see me as she went to pull forward and she hit my car hard enough to take her front bumper almost clean off (was still hanging just barely on the right side) and my right side passenger door will no longer open, giant gash all the way down the right side of my vehicle. I called the police, took photos of the scene (had to move my car because it was hindering traffic directly, cars were lining up), and gave a statement to the officer. He checked both drivers for "suspected at fault" on the police report, but in his narrative, he clearly stated that the other driver "Unit 2" was determined to be at fault. This is where things started getting difficult..
Accident happened on Tuesday 5/7. I called the police immediately, my insurance, took photos, provided them to both insurance parties- everything I was supposed to do on day one. Meanwhile, two days go by before the at-fault driver makes contact with their insurance at all. I had called Wednesday and Thursday to find out if their insurance had heard anything from the driver- nothing. Finally, Friday 5/10, after I'd been called them early that morning and left a voicemail, their insurance calls me back around 5:00PM (you know, when everything's basically closing for the weekend.) I'm told by an agent assisting with my claim (not the agent who was handling it "directly") that there was nothing they could do because "The police report shows you to be at fault" (he was reading an ACCIDENT INFORMATION FORM and NOT a **POLICE REPORT**) and that he'd spoken to their insured driver "yesterday" about it. Well, awesome, they let a whole two days go by without telling me they'd heard from their insured while I'm having to cancel plans to pick up my Mother for Mother's day that weekend (she's 75 and I frequently drive 8 hour long trips to pick her up for family events. My passenger door again won't open and she can't ride in the backseats.) I managed to get in contact with the police department customer service line just before they closed for the weekend and they informed me that the **police report** hadn't even been completed yet, that it wouldn't be released until the following Monday lol. So, the genius who told me that they had a **police report** screwed up because they in fact **didn't have one yet**, and didn't know wtf documentation he was even looking at, which seems extremely unprofessional at best and in bad faith at worst. Either way, not good to tell me they have official documentation when they don't.
So, Monday morning rolls along, 5/13. I call in and get the **actual** police report from police customer service. It shows myself and the other driver "Unit 2" to be at fault, both of our names checked for "suspect at fault" but in the narrative it clearly states "Unit 2 determined to be at fault but not cited." I send this to their insurance. They call me the next day, Tuesday, and come at me with a double standard about the report. They claim that because the officer was not there, that they cannot go off of his narrative as proof... but they can take his word on the two checked boxes where I'm "suspect at fault" along with their insured lol? Okay.. well, the officer **also** wasn't there to attest to either of us being qualified as "suspect at fault" because he didn't see anything. This is ridiculous, and I understand it's how things go with insurance, but lol. It's a clear double standard: take one part of the evidence to your benefit and leave the other part out. They told me since there was no video footage, I was out of luck. When I asked the adjuster to provide me with any proof they'd been given and a written statement about what story they'd been given by their insured, the adjuster got really rude with me and hung up on me and wouldn't return my call back. So, I called my insurance agent (I had reported the accident to her initially but told her I would be going through the at-fault's insurance, she said that's fine and my premiums will remain the same) and I informed her of all this just to be honest and keep her updated. By this time, I was also waiting on the police to get in touch with me about getting my police report amended to remove the check box showing I was "suspect at fault".
From Tuesday 5/14 to Thursday 5/16, I spend days calling the police, trying to get in touch with the officer who responded to the scene, keep getting told I'll hear back from him or a sergeant, nope. I go to 4 different police precincts and 2 different courthouse buildings TRYING to figure out who the hell I can get to just amend the report for me, each location pointing me somewhere else... I eventually speak to a sergeant who informs me he'll get the police report amending process "expedited" (still haven't heard back from him lol) and he tells me I might need to request approval for the footage from the county sheriff........... SO, after realizing I was basically on my own, realizing that my only recourse was that surveillance footage, I just went straight to the location where the accident happened outside of by myself (it actually was outside one of the courthouses I went to for information...) and they fucking handed me over a disc with the surveillance footage the following morning, Friday 5/17. No police escort needed, no court order, no county sheriff..! The woman working the front desk happened to also be outside when the accident happened on May 7th, and she remembered me and knew exactly what I was there for! I sent this video footage to my insurance agent and she said she would send the video file to the other insurance party herself and try to get the ball rolling for me about getting all of this settled.
Thank you for anyone that has read this far. This is my first time dealing with this kind of thing and it's been more leg work than I expected. I don't mean to come off as blunt to anyone reading, just trying to handle this as assertively as I need to not get myself ripped off by anyone, as I thought this would be a very straight forward proceeding and thought that the other driver was very clealy liable. At this point, what should I do to proceed? Does the other insurance company sound like they dropped the ball a few times or am I being too brash in thinking this? They basically lied or didn't know what they were telling me about when they stated prematurely that they had a police report, and let me go on indefinitely with bad information that I had to figure out on my own wasn't true. They had an entire department from another state handling my claim in the beginning that apparently wasn't "legally allowed" to handle my claim because of whatever red-tape explanation they gave me, I cannot recall.. but more time wasted. I know insurance agents get swamped, I understand you all work very hard, but I felt pretty disregarded by at-fault's insurance when I was trying to seek answers about their reasoning. It is now Tuesday 5/21 and I have yet to hear from their insurance, their website still says I am liable for the accident, and there's absolutely no way lol. They have the video, they've had to have watched it by now, it absolves me of any liability plain as day. I feel like they are still collating this information and sitting on their hands. At what point should I press for escalation of this issue? Should I hire a pro bono lawyer? Or should I just relax? I feel like the adjuster hanging up on me and trying to move forward with no explanation provided and just writing me as liable isn't right. I'm also out of work now for the past two weeks (I do rideshare and also help take care of my father in-home hospice care with my sister.)
Any advice is appreciated. I'm not trying to gouge anyone or upset anything, I just want to get compensated correctly and get this over this. I am very confident in that I am not liable, I have photos and video to back this up. I am just wondering how should I be handling the at-fault's insurance from here on?

2024.05.21 19:41 yeeter860 Car Insurance Question

So I have full coverage auto insurance and last week my car got side swiped while parked. They didn't stop, of course, and I don't have a ring camera that could've picked it up.
I filed a claim with my insurance, and the estimate for repairs came to be a little over $2,700. The problem? My deductible is $2,500. I know some guys that do body work on the side and I'm curious if I still take the $200 payout from my insurance company, will I get in trouble? Obviously I'm still going to pay more than the $200 to whoever fixes the damage, but it won't be the full $2,500.
Thanks in advance!

2024.05.21 19:39 ChocoChipPancakes Should I really replace my windows before siding.

Hi all,
My wife and I just bought a home built in the 1970s that has old cedar shake siding. All windows are single pane wooden double hung with storm windows that, while older, appear to be working fine. A few have rotted sills but the rest appear solid. We would want to paint the interior of the windows as well.
We plan to reside the house with hardi. Iā€™ve been told by many sources we should replace the windows first, which Iā€™m planning to do, but I was hoping to get a sanity check first. Windows are obviously a costly project, even if I DIY, so it will delay the siding project.
If we didnā€™t need to get the house sided, I think weā€™d probably keep most of these windows for at least 5 years, potentially replacing them window by window.
So Reddit, should I REALLY do windows first or is it okay to do siding first in this scenario?
NOTE: To provide more context, our insurance company has requested we fix parts of the cedar siding soon, which Iā€™ve thought about doing myself, but Iā€™m not sure how successful I will be. Quotes from contractors are pretty high, and presuming we plan to redo the siding at some point in the near future, seems like a waste of money.

Long time listener, first time caller. Hoping yā€™all can take a look at this and give me an idea of where Iā€™m drastically going wrong or if Iā€™m in good shape
47 m working to fire by age 50.
Current assets:
280k in equities (taxable account) approx 11k in dividends annually
250k in hysa with 4.5% interest
35k in bond fund with 5.1% return
Rental property (fully paid off 350k value) grossing 1950/month, approx 1300/month after prop taxes and prop manager
Primary home (fully paid off 350k value)
100k in 401k (never worked with an org with 401k match so this has been a bit neglected)
45k emergency fund with 2% interest
Tech company pre-ipo options (current fmv approx 150k). Should vest another 300k fmv by age 50.
Annual spend approx 100k (my wife and I splurge from time to time and also help family). No kids.
Current income approx 300k - 450k between the two of us depending on how my year shakes out. The lionā€™s share of that is from me.
It took me until my 40s to start making ā€œreal moneyā€ regularly (above 100k/yr). I came from dirt poor trailer trash (not an insult - I still consider myself trailer trash today).
Plan is for wife to continue working after I retire (approx 50k/year) to have health insurance and continue to max her employee stock purchase program. She likes her job and itā€™s no stress.
At that point, weā€™ll cut spending back to 75k/year. 25k bring home from her after taxes, insurance, and espp. Approx 25k net from passive income (looking at todayā€™s investments and not counting for growth, additional investments, or pre-ipo equity).
Please poke holes in this. Tell me where Iā€™m doing it wrong and what I should do differently.
Thank you so much for your help.

They tell us at the end of the month at renewal time that they was dropping us because my wife's driver's license was suspended in Indiana. We call the DMV to find out what's going on only to find out my wife's driver's license wasn't suspended and they dropped ua for no f----n reason. Big companies can rob people daily and it's legal. So we called them back to tell them they was wrong about the license suspension and only then did they say to fi d insurance elsewhere after 5 years. Fuck Geico!

2024.05.21 19:29 LGBTQIA_Over50 Who hires people with grey hair, mild wrinkles, age spots, experience and wisdom?

Its understood that we have skills. Those features reflect an individual who has lived and likely been in the workforce for awhile.
I'm not your typical GenX. I have current skills that are transferable.
I don't fit the recent college grad, company work cultures that don't embrace multiple generations. I looked at the reviews, photos, and that tells me how the company brands its image.
What companies hire for multi-industry experience, in insurance, banking and would that transfer to paralegal work for plaintiff side lawyers?
The main issue is pay and benefits.
If I were to work in insurance (not life sales) what companies hire someone with experience? Despite my 8 years in that field, Progressive wanted me to take silly games and match the shapes tests, even though I trained employees how to pass insurance licensing exams and worked in the industry.
Those are the silly tricks companies have to create barriers to employment and a youth based workforce.
Juvenile, puzzles and shape matching tests. I'm surprised they don't give out coloring books to see if you can color within the lines.
My competitive advantage in HR is that I've worked in all areas and also have outside industry experience which makes me well-rounded.
I'm lacking the photo on my desk with Magic Kingdom, Mackey and Minnie and spouse and children. That's what most companies which are conservative cultures want.
I dress conservatively, I have bipartisan views that I keep to myself so, outwardly, you wouldn't know where I stand.
Temp agencies don't have anything because they hire sales people to support their client employers who avoid PTO, health benefits and want an unemployment buffer.
I need income now. I used call centers for stopgap work, and even when I meet the strict and narrow performance metrics, and pee break schedule adherence, it doesn't get me promoted.
What places will hire people like us?
Thank you and I hope your day is going well.
EDIT to add, I don't think companies that hire people right out of college, feel comfortable hiring middle aged people who suffered from economic and health losses during and after Covid when everything was shut down and many people lost their incomes. Those whose jobs weren't impacted at that time, don't have a clue about those who lost their health, savings and livelihood. Rebuilding is stressful and I think certain companies want that recent college grad vibrancy versus a middle aged person's dedication, while suffering in silence with stress due to piled up debt and delayed health treatment issues. We might not exude conviviality, innocence and the same motivations when underpaid as opposed to someone who feels that they are paid adequately or more.
So many jobs that are posted for FT would require me to have a 2nd job in addition to that which could compromise my energies in the first job.
If you are paid more than your age, then you are doing well. Many of these jobs aren't paying me at or above my age.

2024.05.21 19:24 coldcoffeethrowaway What should I do about this? It's an issue with my own personal therapy session

I posted about this the other day but it was removed because it was interpreted as me posting and not being a therapist. I want to clarify, I am a therapist (associate licensed). This is a question about my own personal therapy session billing.
I went to one session with a new therapist back in April. It was terrible-worst therapy session of my life. That's besides the point though, but it was a complete waste of time and unhelpful. You can look in my post history if you want to read about it. That will give you some context of how unprofessional this therapist is.
Anyway, I got an invoice for the therapist for her full fee of 140. I had submitted my insurance information to the therapist and was under the impression I would be using my insurance and just paying a copay. I reached out to my insurance company regarding this and they said a claim had never been submitted/ they have never received a claim from the therapist. I contacted the therapist and she responded, and I quote, "I definitely did send in your claim thru Therapy Notes. I will resubmit it again and refund you if/when they pay it. šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø " I had asked my insurance company if there was anything I needed to do for the claim to be filed or any information I needed to give the therapist, and they said no, but they did give me a fax number that the therapist could fax the claim to.
So I emailed the therapist the fax number (politely) and she responded, "I don't normally fax claims nor do we even have a fax machine. I can compare that number to our file and also, you're welcome to fax in the claim also. BTW, in consideration of the back and all the ensuring problems, I had submitted this claim 8 times, FYI."
What should I do? She is responding so unprofessionally. I don't know that I even understand what her last emails means 100%. My insurance company is saying she has not submitted a claim and she is saying she submitted it 8 times?? I don't know what to believe. Also her saying I can submit my own claim...is that normal? There is a person who does the billing at my practice so I am not directly involved with doing that so I do not know what is normal or not regarding that. I know we do not ask our clients to submit their own claims though. It feels to me as if she does not care that I am being charged the full fee and is not trying to help me out here.

2024.05.21 19:22 BuilderNB Anyone know of a good law practice that goes after insurance companies regarding termite damage?

Long story short. We have a termite bond and it is up to date. We discover termites in the ceiling and tried to call the company our bond is with. Well unfortunately the owner and sole employee died a couple months ago. So it looks like some extensive damage but with the owner being dead we need to file on his insurance. Any recommendations for attorneys that specialize in this?

2024.05.21 19:22 bitchbetterhavmy Indianapolis is crawling with them.

Astro Marketing (aka Stellar Chicago) reached out via text message after I told Maverick Solutions (a larger indy based smart circle company) I wasn't intersted (they found my info via linked in).
When I lived in Colorado in 2017 I had my first run in with these types of companies and briefly (1 hellish week) worked at Mammoth Marketing. Did the whole 'memorize word for word' and even got yelled at for leaning against a wall during our 2+ hour training. Indianapolis based employees looking for a marketing job BEWARE.

2024.05.21 19:22 Sadboisenberry At fault's insurance hung up on me, will not return calls. I believe I'm getting the run around and don't know how to pursue this.

I also have a dog that I need to get insurance, probably bike and gadget theft as well, for so could be interesting if there was a company that could bundle different insurances!
