2024.05.21 21:10 Far_Entertainer3179 Need to borrow about $4,000 for a home repair. What's my best option? CC, personal loan, HELOC?

Hello,
I have some home repairs that need to be done and am about $4,000 short. My credit score is 730 and the only debt I have is student loans and my mortgage. What would you say is the best option? Should I open a credit card with 0% interest for 12-months to 18 months? I am certain I can pay it off in that time no problem. The only other credit card I have is a Home Depot card, and it wouldn't help me with repairs as it is labor I need to pay. Other option is a personal loan or a HELOC (though that seems excessive for just $4,000, and I understand there would be closing fees). What would you do? Thanks in advance!

2024.05.21 21:03 taytom94 End of my breastfeeding era and depressed.

I tried my best to continue breastfeeding and pumping after I finished my very short 7-week maternity leave. My son is now 12 weeks old and my milk supply is shot. I used to get 6oz at a time. I pumped at 11:30 and 2:30 and both times I got one ounce.
I feel like a total failure, like I could've done more somehow. When I tried venting to a childless friend she said "What's wrong, you could always just pump more?" And that hurt because I can't. I plan on continuing until I legitimately don't get any milk.
How do you cope with losing this ability? We were already supplementing Formula before this so my son won't go hungry, per se. But he definitely prefers the milk and it breaks my heart I can't do it for him anymore..
Feels like I'm due for a total mental breakdown. I'm sitting in my preschool classroom while my students nap trying my best not to cry.

2024.05.21 21:03 vickyjensen11 Shining a Light on Employee Side Jobs: How Businesses Can Deal with This Situation?

Three years after the COVID-19 pandemic, it's clear that work can sometimes be done without an office. Many people work from home or have chosen the hybrid methods of work. But along with this change comes a new issue: more people are taking on extra work outside their primary job.
What is Employee Moonlighting?
Moonlighting refers to having a second job or doing a side job along with a full-time job. However, it can benefit employees; it can pose challenges for employers.
This blog post will examine moonlighting, why people do it, and how it affects businesses. We will discuss its positives and negatives and advise companies on managing it using remote employee monitoring tools. The aim is to help businesses better understand moonlighting and effectively address it in their workplaces.
Reasons for Increasing Employee Moonlighting
Moonlighting, or having a side job, is becoming more common for a few critical reasons. These reasons are the main things pushing this trend and include:
Many people want extra cash to cover their bills as life gets pricier. Moonlighting helps them earn more and feel financially safer.
Moonlighting often means doing something you're good at or love that you don't do in your primary job. People might have hobbies or skills they want to explore outside of work.
Working from home makes having side gigs alongside your main job easier. Fitting other jobs around your main schedule is simpler when you can work from anywhere.
Many people have creative or business dreams they want to pursue outside of their regular jobs. Moonlighting lets them explore these passions without risking their primary income.
Side gigs often offer more flexibility in schedule and workload than regular jobs. This flexibility appeals to people who like having control over their time.
Several income sources can make you feel more secure in an uncertain economy. Moonlighting lets you earn from different places, not just one.
With more and more people dealing with student loans and other debts, having a side gig can help pay off loans faster and get out of debt sooner.
Some people use side jobs to learn new things or meet new people who can help them advance in their careers. Whether freelancing or taking on part-time work in a different field, moonlighting can be a smart career move.
For people who dream of starting their own business, having a side job allows them to test their ideas and see if they will grow without quitting their job. It's a way to measure interest and attract customers while still earning from their regular jobs.
While employee moonlighting offers various benefits, it also challenges employers, including potential conflicts of interest, productivity concerns, and compliance issues. However, remote employee management software can effectively manage these challenges.
Effective Strategies for Managing Moonlighting
Dealing with moonlighting in remote or hybrid work setups can take time and effort. Remote work tracking software like Talygen ensures employees remain focused and engaged in their primary roles. Here are some ways companies can handle it:
Make sure everyone knows the rules about moonlighting. Policies should say when it's okay and when it's not. For example, moonlighting might be allowed if it doesn't interfere with someone's main job.
Encourage people to talk to their bosses about their side jobs and help employers and leaders sort out any problems early on.
Regular check-ins can help managers identify employees struggling to manage their jobs.
Offer flexible schedules so people can balance their time better.
Encourage people to grow within their primary job, making them less likely to seek other work.
Help everyone understand the rules and why they matter, which can stop problems before they start.
Tools that track what people are doing can help spot any issues early on.
Give people support if they are finding it hard to manage their jobs. It could be counseling or flexible hours.
Show that it's okay to have a life outside of work, setting an excellent example for everyone.
Ensure everyone knows what's okay and what's not regarding side jobs, and keep things fair and honest for everyone.
Conclusion
Moonlighting is a growing trend in the workplace today, presenting both opportunities and challenges for companies. Integrating remote work tracking software with live webcam screenshots is crucial to address this phenomenon. This technology offers invaluable benefits, such as boosting productivity. However, organizations must adopt these tools to be better positioned to manage moonlighting effectively and foster a productive and harmonious work environment.

2024.05.21 21:02 yesjesshero Should I take a federal loan or use my savings?

I am going back to school to finish my bachelors after a bit of a hiatus. I have 2 years left to go. Currently I have no student loans, no credit card debt, have a mortgage split with my spouse, and a car loan. Both my spouse and I work full time. I have 40k in savings after making some money off selling a house I had before my marriage. I feel like it’s best to use savings than to get a loan, but honestly am not great when it comes to finances. I’ve estimated the amount to finish my bachelors should be 18k. Also, I understand that I should be investing my money instead of having it in savings, but I also don’t know how to do that so don’t come for me please… so thanks for your opinions in advance. 😊

2024.05.21 21:01 jcbiochemistry Im so burnt out

Hello,
This is a rant/seeking advice tangent that I’ve had been thinking about lately. For the past year, ever since I hit 225 on bench, I’ve lost the discipline I used to have to go to the gym. Therr are times where it’s just impossible to push thorough due to being a college student with a packed schedule. I’ve been trying to lose weight the past year and I’ve been fluctuating over and under 5 lbs my normal weight. I’m 190 lbs at 5’ 10”. My parents have commented on my belly and no matter how much I try to maintain a diet, my weight loss is SO SLOW. Yet when I take a week off from dieting (like vacation, finals, etc.), I gain back like 7 lbs. The muscle that I have on my arms is not defined whatsoever due to the fat on my arms. While I have the summer to grind at the gym, I also am starting my PhD this fall. On top of all of this, I have a caffeine addiction due to the gym that has made me intolerable to caffeine. I yawn at the gym after drinking 2 C4s pre workout still. I do cardio after every gym session and it’s been a struggle. I need genuine advice, can somebody give me tips on what I should be doing different?

2024.05.21 21:00 throwawayforvent45 art school is my biggest regret

i know that the stereotype of art school students is that they’re rich and privileged, but neither of my parents went to college and did not have an understanding about what i was getting myself into. i worked all through school and paid all of my bills myself, barely made any art for myself and only focused on assignments and just trying to survive. i made the decision to go to art school when I was 17, because I felt like art was the only thing i could do. but now all my love for it has been sucked out of me and I realized I hate doing art for other people. i hate that I was encouraged to turn a life long hobby into a career. over half of my tuition was covered by scholarships and grants, but I still owe a little less than $60k for a subpar education and spending over half of class time working silently because the professors didn’t put in effort outside of giving us projects they’ve reused for decades. i just wish I could go back and tell myself to not do it. on top of this, my mom royally screwed me over by putting $30k of private loans on a 5 YEAR PAYMENT PLAN without telling me until I graduated. yes i have since then refinanced. she also just tells me to get over it when I rant about how this all makes me feel and that I should be happy with the job I have. (non art related) this has all made me realize i put all my faith in someone to help steer me down the right path who never really cared in the first place. i just feel so lost and without direction in life, and so so different from any of my peers. most of them didn’t even have a job in school, and all of my free time went towards working. I just wish i could find someone that understands because ive never felt more alone.

2024.05.21 20:59 StrikingStory5595 Why isn’t Fortnite doing big live events anymore?

Maybe I've missed some, but I don't remember there ever being a big live event anymore in Fortnite. I started playing in Season 7 and loved those long/big live events. Now it's just weird short ones lmao.
I remember that one time when the Fortnite community was able to choose what item they wanted back in the game, and we “all“ chose the drum gun. Those types of events were nice.
I honestly don’t even know when and why it stopped. Up to ch3 I think there were still some but idk about the chapters after (at the end of ch4 they gave us a 2nd Big Bang event tho)

2024.05.21 20:58 mephesta Income recert/anniversary date?

Back in March I luckily had my IDR income recert denied because of the Student Aid announcement of the extension and now on the MOHELA site it’s showing my IDR renewal is not due until March 2025.
However my IDR anniversary date on the Student Aid website for my loans still show as 3/2024.
Anyone else that had their recert date moved out, but not show a change to the anniversary date on Student Aid?
Thanks!

2024.05.21 20:58 Primary_Librarian_43 Looking to pursue an MA in Law from UoB

Hey, I'm a Philosophy undergrad from India, looking to settle in the UK as a lawyer with an MA in Law from UoB. I did get into LLB programs but I cannot afford that, but I can go there and prove my mettle, if given the opportunity to do so. Can anyone help me out regarding the employability aspect of this degree, and whether the Magic Circle hires people from this degree if they have good standing? Can I pay my student loans off and yet mantain a decent lifestyle in the major cities?
I know about the SQE, and of course that matters. Some help/ mentorship and guidance would really help as I'm really lost right now, penniless and I want to leave this country and make a mark. Have been feeling pretty depressed, where I am devoid of options. MA in Law, might just be my final opportunity - provided the employability is good.

2024.05.21 20:58 MarkMurrayBooks After 20 years, why aren't you as good as the famous pre-war students?

Stan Pranin mentions some important information about both the pre-war students and the post-war students.

I think it is due primarily to the fact that very few of O-Sensei's students trained under him for any protracted length of time. With the exception of Yoichiro (Hoken) Inoue, a nephew of Ueshiba, Gozo Shioda, the founder of Yoshinkan Aikido, and Tsutomu Yukawa, O-Sensei's prewar uchideshi studied a maximum of perhaps five to six years. (1)

and

The same can be said of the postwar period. The initiates of that period include such well-known figures as Sadateru Arikawa, Hiroshi Tada, Seigo Yamaguchi, Shoji Nishio, Nobuyoshi Tamura, Yasuo Kobayashi, and later Yoshimitsu Yamada, Mitsunari Kanai, Kazuo Chiba, Seiichi Sugano, Mitsugi Saotome and various others. Shigenobu Okumura, Koichi Tohei, and Kisaburo Osawa form a somewhat unique group in that they practiced only briefly before the war, but achieved master status after World War II. None of these teachers spent any lengthy period studying directly under O- Sensei. (1)

Finding out that many of Morihei Ueshiba's students didn't spend any lengthy time with him is a fairly critical piece of information. The pre-war students of Ueshiba came the closest to replicating his abilities. Those students were studying Daito ryu aiki. Their training was different.

Training of the pre-war era. From multiple interviews, there were official training times at the Kobukan dojo for 4 or 5 times a day. There were two morning classes, one which ran from six to seven A.M. while the other ran somewhere between nine and eleven. In the afternoon, there were either two or three classes, but at least one was from two to four and another from seven to eight P.M.(2) (3) Training times lasted one to one and a half hours.(4) According to Shirata, the amount of time spent per week in training was about seven to eight hours. (5) Of course, the students were free to train with each other. (2) We also know that brand new students spent months either watching or doing other chores before being allowed to train. (6) (7) (8) This gives us some indication of the training times per week.

But what were the total years some of the pre-war students spent training?

Gozo Shioda
1932 Began training under Morihei Ueshiba.
1941 Was posted to China, Taiwan and Borneo.

Kenji Tomiki
1926-1927 Began training under Morihei Ueshiba. Mostly either summer months or vacation time spent training. (9)
1934 Moved to Tokyo. Full time training. (9)
1936 Moved to Manchuria. (10)

Rinjiro Shirata
1931 Began training under Morihei Ueshiba.
1937 Mobilized into the Army.

Shigemi Yonekawa
1932 Began training under Morihei Ueshiba.
1936 Moved to Manchuria.

Minoru Mochizuki
1930 Began training under Morihei Ueshiba.
Late 1930s Moved to Manchuria. (11)

With most students being mobilized for the war, by 1942 when Kanshu Sunadomari began training under Morihei Ueshiba, there were very few students. Training in those days was done only for a little while in the mornings and evenings. Also, Ueshiba was spending time traveling to Iwama. (12) As you can see, the actual number of years that the pre-war students spent training was really not that long, either in duration or per day. Another important thing to realize is that Ueshiba was not at the Kobukan dojo all the time during this period.

From 1926 until the outbreak of World War II, O-Sensei maintained a heavy teaching schedule centering his activities in Tokyo. His students were primarily military officers and person of high social standing and his teaching services were in constant demand. He was obliged to travel extensively around the country and made almost yearly visits to Manchuria, then under Japanese political control. (13)

There was actually only a small amount of training in those years for the prewar students and only a few actually trained more than five years. Adding to that, Ueshiba had a very busy traveling schedule as he went to various places to train people. Morihiro Saito even mentions how busy Ueshiba was traveling before the war. (14) In fact, after Mochizuki opened his dojo around 1931 (15), he stated that when Ueshiba would travel each month to Kyoto to teach Omoto kyo followers, that Ueshiba would stop at Mochizuki's dojo to teach there for two to three days. (16) Between the actual travel times and the teaching times, Ueshiba was not at the Kobukan dojo regularly. None of this even touches upon Ueshiba's teaching style and how chaotic or confusing it had been. The actual teaching style and method used by Morihei Ueshiba will be dealt with in another chapter.

Then there is the post-war period. Some of the post-war students are listed below.

Akira Tohei (1929-1999) 1946-1956 Studied under Koichi Tohei. 1956-1963 Studied under Morihei Ueshiba. 1963-64 Toured U.S. and taught in Hawaii. 1964-1972 Taught at various places in Japan. 1972 Dispatched to America.

Fumio Toyoda (1947-2001)
1957 (age 10) Studied under Koichi Tohei
1964 Shodan by Saito (Tohei was in Hawaii).
1965 Ichikukai dojo as resident for 3 years. After completing this harsh training, he continued to attend Hombu classes for 3 hours each day.
1969-ish – Uchideshi under Kisshomaru Ueshiba (Morihei had died) (sandan).
1971 Yondan.
1974 Dispatched to America (godan).

Mitsunari Kanai (1939-2004) 1959-1966 Uchideshi at Hombu. 1966 Dispatched to America (yondan).
Seiichi Sugano (1939-2010) 1957 Started training at Hombu. 1958-59 Studied under Morihei Ueshiba. 1965 Dispatched to Australia.
Yoshimitsu Yamada (1938-) 1955-56 Uchideshi at Hombu. 1964 Dispatched to NY Aikikai.
Kazuo Chiba (1940-) 1958- Uchideshi at Hombu. 1960 – Sandan. Assigned to Nagoya. 1962 Yondan and teaching at Hombu. 1966 Dispatched to England.
Mitsugi Saotome (1937-) 1955 Started Aikido. 1958 Uchideshi at Hombu. 1960 Teaching at Hombu. 1975 Departed to America.
Shizuo Imaizumi (1938-) 1959 Started Aikido. 1965 Apprentice Instructor at Hombu (sandan). Frequently trained under Koichi Tohei, 1975 Moved to America.
During the post-war period, the students of Morihei Ueshiba actually had more total years training than the pre-war students. A closer look at how much time was spent training directly with Morihei Ueshiba shows that the actual time is significantly less than what it appears. There is relatively little difference between pre-war and post-war in the actual amount of hands-on time with Ueshiba.

Ueshiba moved to Iwama for about ten years from around 1942 to 1952. (17) During this time in Iwama, his actual training schedule with students appeared to be limited to twice a day.

Morihei's daily schedule in Iwama in those years:
7:00-9:00 A.M.: Aikido training followed by a simple breakfast.
4:00P.M.-6:00P.M. Aikido training.(18)

For those ten years in Iwama, the students did not train extensively. It would appear that, at most, there was 4 hours of training each day. While four hours a day is not something to easily dismiss, it is nowhere near an extensive training schedule. We also have to take into consideration whether the students in Iwama trained every day. Even at that, Ueshiba's teaching style was still confusing and at times, chaotic. Saito did mention that the training was severe. (19)
Ueshiba split his time between the Tokyo hombu dojo and Iwama for a short period. Stan Pranin notes that Ueshiba actually lived in Iwama for 15 years after the war ended. (20) Kanai responds that after he started at hombu around 1958, Ueshiba split his time between Iwama and Tokyo. (21)
Until 1955, hombu dojo was not very active. Between 1955 and 1959, more students started coming to the dojo to train, including foreign students. Even then, Ueshiba was not a regular teacher there. He would show up whenever he wanted. (22)
Nishio remarks that when he started, around 1951, it was six months before he saw Ueshiba. (23) In fact, Nishio goes on to note that there weren't many students and that Kisshomaru Ueshiba and Koichi Tohei were the teachers. (24)
Robert Frager remarks that he only saw Ueshiba occasionally during his first year, which would be sometime in the mid 1960s. (25) Walther Krenner also notes that Ueshiba wasn't teaching regularly around 1967. (26)
Kisshomaru Ueshiba states that his father was "besieged by visitors starting from early in the morning and he spent large amounts of time in receiving them". Kisshomaru also notes that his father traveled often. (27)
Taking a closer look when Ueshiba was at the Tokyo hombu dojo, what time, or times, did he teach?

The uchideshi's day begins around 6 a.m., when he cleans the dojo and the grounds outside. The first class of the day starts at 6:30. This class is usually taught by Uyeshiba himself, the Osensei, which means the old teacher. The young uchideshi sit on their knees during this hour, which can be an uncomfortable and tiring experience.
The first class is usually taken up mostly with discussions about God and nature - Uyeshiba doing the talking and the uchideshi listening. It is in this hour that the young uchideshi is exposed to Zen philosophy and the deeper meanings of aikido - its nonviolent and defensive perfection and understanding.
If this all sounds rather remote and difficult to grasp for a Western reader, he may be interested to know that the young Japanese uchideshi often feels the same way. The 83-year-old Uyeshiba many times speaks about highly abstract topics, lapsing usually into ancient Japanese phraseology, so that his listeners often find it difficult to follow him.
When this long hour is over, the young uchideshi exuberantly spill out onto the dojo floor for a half-hour exercise break. All the restless energy pent up within seems to come out and they throw themselves into the practice of their techniques with each other.
At 8 a.m. begins the real study of aikido techniques. This class is taught by a different instructor every day, and is attended by a large number of persons from outside the dojo. Sometimes this hour is taught by Uyeshiba's son, or Waka sensei as he is called. Sometimes Tohei sensei, the greatest of Uyeshiba's followers, instructs the class. (28)

When Ueshiba did teach, he often spent a large amount of time talking and the students just wanted to practice techniques. (28) (29) Ueshiba traveled often. He also entertained visitors. He only taught the morning class at hombu dojo when he was there. From the mid 1940s to the mid 1950s, he was rarely in Tokyo. From the mid 1950s to the mid 1960s, he split his time between Iwama and Tokyo and still traveled occasionally to various other places. In the late 1960s, Ueshiba's health was declining and he rarely taught. Not even getting into the subject of just how confusing Ueshiba's teaching style was, the students of Ueshiba never had extensive training time with him, either pre-war or post-war. What time there was, the post-war students focused on techniques and throwing each other around. The exceptions here would be Kisshomaru and Saito. Both seem to have had more access to Ueshiba than most other students.
With everything mentioned, it is very plausible that many of the people training in Tokyo were actually students of Kisshomaru and Tohei. When Ueshiba retreated to Iwama, he left hombu dojo in the care of Kisshomaru. It also explains why Saito was able to develop the curriculum that he did since he had more time with Ueshiba.
This isn't to say that all the students of aikido never trained with Morihei Ueshiba or that they did not learn from him. This is only to show that the actual hands-on training time with Ueshiba was not extensive. Ueshiba was not really focused on teaching so that whatever the students could glimpse was done so by a very dedicated effort on their part. Ueshiba must have, in some manner, given out certain aspects for training aiki in the pre-war period. Those students stood out.
After 20 years in aikido why aren't you at least close to the pre-war students?
There is an interview with Henry Kono in an Aikido Today magazine that sheds light on the answer.
ATM: When you had conversations like these with O'sensei, what would you talk about?
HK: Well, I would usually ask him why the rest of us couldn't do what he could. There were many other teachers, all doing aikido. But he was doing it differently - doing something differently. His movement was so clean!

ATM: How would O'sensei answer your questions about what he was doing?
HK: He would say that I didn't understand yin and yang [in and yo]. So, now I've made it my life work to study yin and yang. That's what O'sensei told me to do.
The answer is Aiki. Daito ryu aiki. Specific training (not techniques) for aiki. Heaven-Earth-Man. Yin/Yang. Have you found what those training methodologies were?

Delivering the commencement address to the graduating seniors at Morehouse College today, President Joe Biden addressed the nation. After thanking the mothers, fathers, grandmothers, grandfathers, and all the people who helped the graduates get to the chairs in front of the stage, Biden recalled Morehouse’s history. The school was founded in 1867 by civil rights leader Reverend William Jefferson White with the help of two other Baptist ministers, the Reverend Richard C. Coulter and the Reverend Edmund Turney, to educate formerly enslaved men. They believed “education would be the great equalizer from slavery to freedom,” Biden said, and they created an institution that would make the term “Morehouse man” continue to stand as a symbol of excellence 157 years later. Then Biden turned to a speech that centered on faith. Churches talk a lot about Jesus being buried on Friday and rising from the dead on Sunday, he said, “but we don’t talk enough about Saturday, when… his disciples felt all hope was lost. In our lives and the lives of the nation, we have those Saturdays—to bear witness the day before glory, seeing people’s pain and not looking away. But what work is done on Saturday to move pain to purpose? How can faith get a man, get a nation through what was to come?” It’s a truism that anything that happens before we are born is equidistant from our personal experience, mixing the recent past and the ancient past together in a similar vaguely imagined “before” time. Most of today’s college graduates were not born until about 2002 and likely did not pay a great deal of attention to politics until about five years ago. Biden took the opportunity to explain to them what it meant to live through the 1960s. He noted that he was the first in his family to graduate from college, paid for with loans. He fell in love, got a law degree, got married and took a job at a “fancy law firm.” But his world changed when an assassin murdered the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King—a Morehouse man—and the segregated city of Wilmington, Delaware, erupted with fires, looting, fights, and occasional gunfire. For nine months, the National Guard patrolled the city in combat gear, “the longest stretch in any American city since the Civil War,” Biden recalled. “Dr. King’s legacy had a profound impact on me and my generation, whether you’re Black or white,” Biden explained. He left the law firm to become first a public defender and then a county councilman, “working to change our state’s politics to embrace the cause of civil rights.” The Democratic Party had historically championed white supremacy, but that alignment was in the process of changing as Democrats had swung behind civil rights and the 1965 Voting Rights Act. Biden and his cohort hoped to turn the Delaware Democratic Party toward the new focus on civil rights, he said. In 1972, Biden ran for the Senate and won…barely, in a state Republican president Richard Nixon won with 60% of the vote. Biden recalled how, newly elected and hiring staff in Washington, D.C., he got the call telling him that his wife and daughter had been killed in a car accident and that his two sons were gravely injured. The pain of that day hit again 43 years later, he said, when his son Beau died of cancer after living for a year next to a burn pit in Iraq. And he talked of meeting First Lady Jill Biden, “who healed the family in all the broken places. Our family became my redemption,” he said. His focus on family and community offered a strong contrast to the Republican emphasis on individualism. “On this walk of life...you come to understand that we don’t know where or what fate will bring you or when,” Biden said. “But we also know we don’t walk alone. When you’ve been a beneficiary of the compassion of your family, your friends, even strangers, you know how much the compassion matters,” he said. “I’ve learned there is no easy optimism, but by faith—by faith, we can find redemption.” For the graduates, Biden noted, four years ago “felt like one of those Saturdays. The pandemic robbed you of so much. Some of you lost loved ones—mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, who…aren’t able to be here to celebrate with you today…. You missed your high school graduation. You started college just as George Floyd was murdered and there was a reckoning on race. “It’s natural to wonder if democracy you hear about actually works for you. “What is democracy if Black men are being killed in the street? “What is democracy if a trail of broken promises still leave[s]…Black communities behind? “What is democracy if you have to be 10 times better than anyone else to get a fair shot? “And most of all, what does it mean, as we’ve heard before, to be a Black man who loves his country even if it doesn’t love him back in equal measure?” The crowd applauded. Biden explained that across the Oval Office from his seat behind the Resolute Desk are busts of Dr. King and Senator Robert Kennedy, challenging Biden: “Are we living up to what we say we are as a nation, to end racism and poverty, to deliver jobs and justice, to restore our leadership in the world?” He wears a rosary on his wrist made of Beau’s rosary as a reminder that faith asks us “to hold on to hope, to move heaven and earth to make better days.” “[T]hat’s my commitment to you,” he said. “[T]o show you democracy, democracy, democracy is still the way.” Biden pledged to “call out the poison of white supremacy” and noted that he “stood up…with George Floyd’s family to help create a country where you don’t need to have that talk with your son or grandson as they get pulled over.” The administration is investing in Black communities and reconnecting neighborhoods cut apart by highways decades ago. It has reduced Black child poverty to the lowest rate in history. It is removing lead pipes across the nation to provide clean drinking water to everyone, and investing in high-speed internet to bring all households into the modern era. The administration is creating opportunities, Biden said, bringing “good-paying jobs…; capital to start small businesses and loans to buy homes; health insurance, [prescription] drugs, housing that’s more affordable and accessible.” Biden reminded the audience that he had joined workers on a picket line. To applause, he noted that when the Supreme Court blocked his attempt to relieve student debt, he found two other ways to do it. He noted the administration’s historic investment in historically black colleges and universities. “We’re opening doors so you can walk into a life of generational wealth, to be providers and leaders for your families and communities. Today, record numbers of Black Americans have jobs, health insurance, and more [wealth] than ever.” Then Biden directly addressed the student protests over the Israeli government’s strikes on Gaza. At Morehouse today, one graduate stood with his back to Biden and his fist raised during the president’s speech, and the class valedictorian, DeAngelo Jeremiah Fletcher, who spoke before the president, wore a picture of a Palestinian flag on his mortarboard and called for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, at which Biden applauded. “In a democracy, we debate and dissent about America’s role in the world,” Biden said. “I want to say this very clearly. I support peaceful, nonviolent protest. Your voices should be heard, and I promise you I hear them.” “What’s happening in Gaza…is heartbreaking,” he said, with “[i]nnocent Palestinians caught in the middle” of a fight between Hamas and Israel. He reminded them that he has called “for an immediate ceasefire…to stop the fighting [and] bring the hostages home.” His administration has been working for a deal, as well as to get more aid into Gaza and to rebuild it. Crucially, he added, there is more at stake than “just one ceasefire.” He wants “to build a lasting, durable peace. Because the question is…: What after? What after Hamas? What happens then? What happens in Gaza? What rights do the Palestinian people have?” To applause, he said, “I’m working to make sure we finally get a two-state solution—the only solution—for two people to live in peace, security, and dignity.” “This is one of the hardest, most complicated problems in the world,” he said. “I know it angered and frustrates many of you, including my family. But most of all, I know it breaks your heart. It breaks mine as well. Leadership is about fighting through the most intractable problems. It’s about challenging anger, frustration, and heartbreak to find a solution. It’s about doing what you believe is right, even when it’s hard and lonely. You’re all future leaders, every one of you graduating today…. You’ll face complicated, tough moments. In these moments, you’ll listen to others, but you’ll have to decide, guided by knowledge, conviction, principle, and your own moral compass.” Turning back to the United States, Biden urged the graduates to examine “what happens to you and your family when old ghosts in new garments seize power, extremists come for the freedoms you thought belonged to you and everyone.” He noted attacks on equality in America, and that extremist forces were peddling “a fiction, a caricature [of] what being a man is about—tough talk, abusing power, bigotry. Their idea of being a man is toxic.” “But that’s not you,” he continued. “It’s not us. You all know and demonstrate what it really means to be a man. Being a man is about the strength of respect and dignity. It’s about showing up because it’s too late if you have to ask. It’s about giving hate no safe harbor and leaving no one behind and defending freedoms. It’s about standing up to the abuse of power, whether physical, economic, or psychological.” To applause, he added: “It’s about knowing faith without works is dead.” “The strength and wisdom of faith endures,” Biden said. “And I hope—my hope for you is—my challenge to you is that you still keep the faith so long as you can.” “Together, we’re capable of building a democracy worthy of our dreams…a bigger, brighter future that proves the American Dream is big enough for everyone to succeed.” “Class of 2024, four years ago, it felt probably like Saturday,” Biden concluded. “Four years later, you made it to Sunday, to commencement, to the beginning. And with faith and determination, you can push the sun above the horizon once more….” “God bless you all,” he said. “We’re expecting a lot from you.” — Notes: https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/speeches-remarks/2024/05/19/remarks-by-president-biden-at-the-morehouse-college-class-of-2024-commencement-address-atlanta-ga/https://www.inquirer.com/news/a/wilmington-del-riots-occupation-martin-luther-king-jr-national-guard-20181207.htmlhttps://www.reuters.com/world/us/morehouse-graduation-thanks-god-woke-class-2024-2024-05-19/

Chapter 257, Yuji hit 7 black flash
Chapter 260, Yuji hit 1 black flash => 8 total black flash since the number 8 was shown
Chapter 260 is 2 + 6 + 0 = another 8
number 8 shown in chapter 257
Chapter 260, Todo REVEAL NEW BOOGIE. He said it can switch 50 times/s
Chapter 50, Todo REVEAL BOOGIE for the first times.
in Chapter 50, it was Todo & Yuji VS Hanami.
In Chapter 51, Hanami was about to open her domain as last resort, and GOJO shows up to interrupt Hanami's domain expansion
Chapter 51 first page.
51 Seconds into Opening 2 \"Vivid Vice\"
At the start of OP2, The right windows open, and the cat turn his head to look face us. Since the cat is black so it's Reverse Gege (lol jk).

2024.05.21 20:50 MaximumOk50 Changing environment or taking medications, which do you think plays a bigger role in recovery?

While the above two can be carried out simultaneously, many don’t have a lot of choices or freedom. I want to share and record my personal experience quitting meds cold turkey. I have to admit that I am not aware of the subreddit rule until I finish writing, but I want to share my opinion and have a discussion. Still if it violates the rule, please feel free to delete the post.
In my unprofessional and personal opinion, an environment with less stress, routine, healthy diet and support network are way more important and helpful for my recovery, and from my experience, meds didn’t help much when I tried to build the things above. Insights, self-awareness and self-assessment are key. (Although according to some professionals, noncompliance to medication is poor insight.)

I am a 20-year-old college student diagnosed with psychotic depression in early 2023. I have suffered from delusions and hallucinations since I was 15, but they come and go, usually subsiding when there are more social interactions and worsening again when living in stressful environment.
When I entered college, I was so suicidal with all kinds of plans so I finally sought help. My usual dosage was 20mg of Citalopram and 7.5mg of Olanzapine. I personally think they were helpful to a certain extent, especially after a couple weeks of first taking them: I was less suicidal, less paranoid, and less troubled by the obsessive thoughts/ delusions. I am not sure whether this was placebo effect or not. But things got worse in October when I put myself into a very stressful situation where I became suicidal again. I didn’t get out of bed for about 2 weeks, skipped class and assignments, and had to drop courses. What eventually got me to get up and shower and brush was my kind friend inviting me to go out.
I was very frustrated with the meds this time. I have already been suffering from the side effects of them: weight gain and being tired. I must admit that as I was unmotivated to cook, I ate a lot of junk food, so it is not only because of the meds (metabolic effects?), but also my fault.
When I met with the doc a couple days later and talked about the weight gain and the relapse, he just increased the dosage of Citalopram to 40mg and ignored my concerns. I started to doubt whether the meds are effective or not for my situation.
I later switched to another doc who got me on both Abilify and Olanzapine and cut Citalopram. I told him I wanted to taper off the meds, but he said to ‘protect the brain’ I should at least take the lowest dosage.
In mid-December during semester break when being on 2.5 mg of Abilify and Olanzapine, I quitted cold turkey. At the same time, I got on a diet to lose weight. I felt fine. It wasn’t until later that I learned how extremely lucky I am: many suffer from withdrawal syndrome. I lost a bit of weight and felt like I got some self-confidence and control back. When I told my family about quitting meds a week later, they were mad and told me how dangerous it was, suggesting me to go talk to the doc and ask for tapering off instead. But I refused. I was extremely terrified of the thought that going back on meds would put my weight back on and I was rebellious. I don’t want to lose face.
So I never went back to the doc and have been lying to my counsellor about still taking meds since. I am afraid to be thought with poor insight. I also don’t know how to talk about my life when all worries can be attributed to me not taking the meds.
It has been 6 months since I stopped my meds. The goal I have set is to function: go to class, get work done on time, maintain basic hygiene.
There were many moments when I was so troubled by my intrusive thoughts (I don’t really know the difference between obsessions/delusions) that I couldn’t focus to work, from minutes to hours. I realize and acknowledge I really am sick. Usually I either write my thoughts, feelings and behaviors down, and take 200mg of L theanine. These combined with more suitable college courses chosen do help. I was on a diet and lost more weight, feeling better. When I struggled, I talked to my friends, who patiently listened. I am always grateful for them.
I have been struggling to follow my routine since March. I fall off the wagon and have been eating fast food again and cramming for deadlines. Fortunately I still managed to survive the semester with ok grades. But I am a bit lost: I quitted meds cold turkey because I hated the weight gain, why am I allowing myself to fall back in this time? I am disappointed with myself, and there is guilt, shame and endless spiral and vicious cycle: I feel bad about myself, so I stuff myself with shitty food to feel better… but ended up feeling worse. I frankly don’t know how to get out of the pit; I am still kinda ‘functioning’, just not as healthy as I want to.
Anyway, I still don’t want to go back to meds. I know they can help, and the relapse possibility off meds is high. But right now, I want to believe that I am capable of taking care of myself.
Please share your thoughts/ stories/ experiences/ research studies about recovery if you are comfortable with it.

2024.05.21 20:50 complete_doodle AITAH for telling my (23F) husband (23M) that I want us to get a car with an automatic transmission?

Hi all! Advice is welcome. My husband and I don’t disagree on much, but this has been a topic we’ve butted heads about for a while. Here to see if I’m being TAH or not.
My husband “Mark” (23M) and I have been together for around 4 years. We both work full-time, and earn about the same amount of money (I bring in ~55% of the household income, he brings in the other 45%). We have combined finances. Currently, we own two cars - my 2013 Honda CR-V, and his 2006 Jeep Liberty.
Unfortunately, Mark’s Jeep has been having issues for a while now, and we’re looking into replacing it. Our goal is to have it replaced within the next year, before we plan on expanding our family/having our first child. The issue is, Mark’s Jeep has a manual transmission, which he loves. He wants our new car to also be a manual, whereas I want it to be an automatic.
The primary reason for this is that I do not know how to drive manual. I’m open to learning, however, I still don’t see the use in owning a manual car over an automatic. We’re looking at purchasing a new Honda or Toyota - the base models of which come with automatic transmissions. It would cost us several thousand more dollars to get one with a manual transmission, which I don’t believe would be a good use of our money, considering that our incomes aren’t that high. Mark also has a decent amount of student loan debt, and I think that those thousands would be better used by paying down some of his debt.
I also dislike the inconvenience of driving a manual car. It might just be because his car is older, but Mark’s driving in his car is noticeably jerkieless smooth than in mine. I’ve spilled drinks several times in his car because of the jerking while he changes gears, it’s honestly just not the most pleasant ride. Mark also often complains about driving his car through stop and go traffic, saying that it’s annoying and stressful to be constantly changing gears. He’s willing to put up with this because he thinks driving manual is cool, but I don’t think that I would be - especially with a baby in the backseat. It doesn’t seem practical to me.
Mark says that I wouldn’t need to drive his car, but I’m the one who drives both of us to work every morning (his office is about 10 minutes from mine, but he doesn’t get free parking - so I drop him off and pick him up every day). If something happens to my car, I will have to drive his every day.
I’m anti-manual for these reasons, but Mark says that he only wants a manual. He says that if we purchase an automatic, his family (who pride themselves on only driving manual cars) will think less of him. I think that this isn’t a good reason. So, AITAH? Or is Mark?
