“Little Weapon” popped up on the playlist earlier, and I quickly recalled how heavy and graphic that track is

2024.05.19 22:36 No_Math6278 The cast's relationship with the survivors and the victims' families (based on what they have said in interviews and social media).
Played survivors:
- Matías Recalt (Roberto Canessa): He calls Dr. Canessa “Robert”. Although they don’t resemble each other physically (other than having big noses), they do have similar personalities. Matías could not cry on set, his emotions were kind of blocked (his father had passed away very recently), but Roberto says he was never able to cry in the mountains either. Matías is also headstrong and would sometimes do things his way instead of the way Bayona asked for him, which was very Canessa of him (1).
- Agustín Pardella (Fernando "Nando" Parrado): He calls Nando his favorite hero and feels that he has taught him a lot about resilience, and makes him want to become a better person (2). He considers Nando a friend, someone with a lot of emotions and warmth, which he had to block in the mountains. Rather that portraying the “superhero” that the media has often painted Nando as, he focused on getting to know him as a person and bring his humanity onscreen (3).
- Agustín Della Corte (Antonio "Tintín" Vizintín): He and Tintín had already met before, since Tintín used to be the president of the Uruguayan Rugby Union, and Della used to be part of the national rugby team (3). They hugged when they met for the movie for the first time (4). tThey met a lot of times, and he got very interested in what Tintín felt in each moment, the emotional details, which is exactly what the survivors wanted. Him being a rugby player helped a lot. Tintín feels that he was able to capture a lot of the essence of what he lived in the mountains. The first time Tintín watched the movie, he didn’t know how he felt about it, because it transported him to the mountains (2).
- Felipe "Pipe" G. Otaño (Carlos "Carlitos" Páez R.): His mother made him read The Society of the Snow when he was younger, so he was more familiar with the story that the average Argentinian. He guessed that he was playing Carlos Páez before the roles were revealed because of his age, physical traits, and what lines he they made him read. He not only Carlito’s book, but also the ones written by his parents. He also watched a lot of interviews with Carlitos (3). He went to Carlitos’ house and met his family. They texted a lot during the process of filming, and still text semi-regularly (2). He also relied on Pablo Vierci on set for details of his personality (3).
- Tomás Wolf (Gustavo Zerbino): He didn’t only get close to Gustavo, they had a barbecue together, and he always answered his questions (3). He also got close to Lupe Zerbino, a daughter. He played in a football (soccer) match, Zerbinos vs Canessas (Zerbinos won). Zerbino still shows him support in social media, even liking more political posts (5).
- Esteban "Kuku" Kukuriczka (Adolfo "Fito" Strauch): He read the book as soon as he got a clue of what the movie was about. At first, they talked at the hotel for around three hours, then he went to his home and met his family, they could empathize with each other (3). Fito and his wife recently went to watch one of Kuku’s theatre performances (2).
- Francisco Romero (Daniel Fernández): They talked a lot. The first time they met up alone, it was in a hotel. Daniel had a lot of love when talking to Fran. Fran feels like he would have played a similar role/made similar decisions in the mountains. According to Chori Segura, Daniel is physically a lot bigger than Fran irl (4). From Daniel, Fran takes away temperance, listening to others, being able to put the group first (3).
- Rafael Federman (Eduardo Strauch): When they met, Eduardo gave him his book as a gift. He would always answer Rafael’s questions (3). Eduardo always received him warmly (2). Rafael took the exit sign of the plane as a souvenir from set, same as Eduardo irl (5).
- Andy Pruss (Roy Harley): He got his information from the books and interviews. But also from talking to him, and how he sees himself in the mountains, 50 years later, what he did right and what he did wrong, specially about not being able to keep his emotions in check, which ended up affecting him a lot (3). Roy took him out in his car to see the places where he grew up, where he studied, his childhood house. Roy also went with Andy and his parents to the beach (2).
- Juan Ignacio "Juanicar" Carusso (Álvaro Mangino): Álvaro as a character had never existed in the other movies, so he felt a lot of responsibility playing him. Álvaro took him home and personally taught him how he used to crawl with a broken leg. He would always answer any question he had (3). Álvaro and Margarita also took some of their family to set, for the hospital scenes (2).
- Simón Hempe (José Luis "Coche" Inciarte): Once his participation got confirmed in the movie, he bought the Society of the Snow and another book about the event, on a whim. It ended up being Coche’s book (3). He feels like he bonded with Coche, since day 1, almost like a grandfather. He also got close to his family, specially his (now) widow, Soledad (2). His death was very hard on Simón (3). They talked a lot, at his house, by phone, on set. They got close enough that Simón could show up to the Inciarte household unannounced (2), and Coche called him his “favorite actor”(2). Coche personally coached him on set for the rescue scenes (told him to remember to smile) and in the hospital (him and Soledad still remembered very clearly how their reencounter was). Soledad says that the movie was something that gave Coche energy despite being ill, and that watching it made him proud. He once met some friends of Coche by chance, and they shared pictures and memories of him (3).
- Valentino Alonso (Alfredo "Pancho" Delgado): When they first met by themselves, they couldn’t look at each other in the eye. Pancho is still very affected by what happened, and Valentino wanted to transmit the emotions (including impotence for nor being able to convince Numa to eat enough to live) that he could still see in him, but also fears the movie broke him a bit too (2). According to ML Berch, his manners are similar to Pancho’s, also him being very good at talking while still being reserved (4). Pancho told him still considers Numa his life’s biggest friend (3).
- Esteban Bigliardi (Javier Methol): Javier had already passed away (2015) by the time the casting started (2021). He got his information from reading books, watching interviews. He got to know that Javier, despite having a hard life, had a very strong spirit, passion for life, compassion. He asked the survivors about him, and they would say that Javier was love (3).
- Rocco Posca (Ramón "Moncho" Sabella): For the last round of casting, they sent him a video of Moncho, and he says that he nurtured himself with it, he felt like Moncho (3). They became really close, and he talks to Moncho informally, as a friend, on Moncho’s insistence (2). They talk a lot on the phone (2). Rocco feels that they formed a kind of connection, that he got some of his energy. Their families stories are a bit similar (ie. Moncho helped his father in the fruit market stall, while Rocco’s uncles did the same on the other side of the river, in Argentina), and also he would get certain feelings or trains of thoughts while in character, that he would later discover were similar to Moncho’s own in the mountains (3).
- Luciano Chatton (Pedro Algorta): They met alone at least once in Punta del Este, in 2021. They walked together, and Pedro asked him if he had read his book. He had, but hadn’t finished. They ended up talking for about 4 hours. He doesn’t want to talk a lot about Pedro, because what he says may be different from reality. Pedro seems to still carry wonder and timidity from the mountains. (2)
- Agustín Berruti (Roberto "Bobby" Francois): He too is from Tacuarembó, part of the Uruguayan countryside. He went to Bobby’s house. Bobby said that he didn’t have any idea as to why they sent him there, because he wouldn’t be able to help him with anything. So they drank wine and talked about the countryside life instead (1)
Played Victims
- Enzo Vogrincic (Numa Turcatti): He didn’t get to meet Numa’s twin, Leonardo, as he passed away in 2009. But he did meet Daniel Turcatti, another brother, and his children. He was given a tour of the Turcatti’s childhood home, and Daniel would recall different anecdotes in each room. Numa would have absolutely hated being a protagonist. The survivors and Bayona say that he resembles Numa in the fact that he would constantly bring himself down for not being good enough (1)
- Fernando Contigiani (ArturoNogueira): After the dinner with the survivors, he was taken to the Nogueira’s house and had a big tea time with them (3). They also accompanied him during the whole process of the movie. Arturo’s siblings, Gabriel and Selina are very thankful towards him, say their family is open towards him, and think Arturo would have liked his work. Cristina, another sister, says he helped her close her mourning process. He was the first person Selina called after she watched the movie for the first time (2).
- Benjamín “Chori” Segura (Rafael "El Vasco” Echavarren): His biggest source of information were Rafael’s sisters, Daniel Fernández helped him a lot too, since he held a lot of love towards Vasco while in the mountains. He tried to see what all three sisters shared, because Rafael could have had those same things too (4). The first time he met the Echavarren sisters, they asked if he would be their brother, and he answered that he would try. They hugged and cried, they laughed and talked for hours. The sisters have both said that they love Chori and that having him is like having their brother back, somewhat (but that Rafael was more shameless) (2).
- Paula Baldini (Liliana Navarro): She was able to talk to a sister, a friend, and her daughters (3). The most emotional part of filming was meeting the Methols daughters in the airport, since she was dressed exactly as their last memory of her. They all cried, and thanked her a lot (5). Male Methol says that the movie helped her picture the mother she didn’t get to grow up with (1). The other children also say that the movie helped them close the cycle (3).
- Diego Vegezzi (Marcelo Pérez del Castillo): He says that he got a lot of who was Marcelo from the Society of the Snow book, and also from "Del Otro Lado de la Montaña", the book written by the families. He had the same role as an empathetic leader in his family, the team and in the mountains (3). When they first met him, the survivors gathered around him because he looked so alike Marcelo (6). Stella, sister, says that what she saw in the movie feels like the Marcelo she knew, that his death onscreen brought forward the feelings she had bottled up for 50 years, and that the movie remembered that the 16 that made it back did it so because of the 29 left behind (1).
- Blas Polidori (Gustavo "Coco" Nicolich): He relied a lot in Coco’s letters, since they have so much of his personality (3). He mostly talked with Álvaro, also nicknamed Coco, the younger brother. They met at his office, alongside an acting coach. They talked about what Gustavo’s essence was, their family, their parents, how them, as a family lived the tragedy. Álvaro tends to leave supportive comments on Blas Instagram from the Nicolich family business account, he says that Blas could bring Coco back in his last moments and was thankful for it, even if he saw him suffer (2). He also keeps contact with Álvaro´s daughter, Coco’s niece, Pauli (3).
- Emanuel Parga (Sgt. Carlos Roque): Roque’s family didn’t want to talk much with the production, because they were still angry and felt disrespected because of his portrayal in Alive (1993) (3). He got in contact with Alejandro, Roque’s son, and also people from the Air Force. The first time he met Alejandro, they couldn’t speak, but they cried and hugged, it felt like two friends meeting again after a long time. He promised that he would honour his father, bring his dignity back (2). Roque’s sister got in contact with Ema only after the release of the movie, and was both relieved and happy with it. She liked that they portrayed the love he had for his job (3).
- Felipe Ramusio (Diego Storm): He had played rugby as a kid. He got in contact with Diego’s brother, and also a family friend. The survivor that helped him the most was Carlitos (very close to Diego, even named one of his kids after him), who invited even him to his house. After the movie, the family contacted him again and congratulated him (3).
- Alfonsina Carrocio (Susana "Susy" Parrado): She mostly talked to Nando. He was very descriptive on how she was injured, what she could and could not do after the crash, how Liliana would take care of her (3).
- Santiago Vaca Narvaja (Daniel Maspons): He was welcomed to Daniel’s nephew’s house with tea and chocolate. He keeps contact with the Maspons sisters, specially with Rosario, the eldest. They showed him a lot of love. She thanked him for helping her understand what happened in the mountains. He does not resemble Maspons in personality, since Daniel was very shy and not very talkative, and had to learn to have a silent presence (3).
- Juandi Eirea (Juan Carlos Menéndez): He did play rugby for 15 years, which helped him with characterization. The Menéndez family didn’t take part in the movie production (3).
- Federico Aznárez (Enrique Platero): His father trained in the Old Christian’s gym as a kid, so he had always had a big connection to the story. He re-read the books after being cast. He got in contact with Roberto Canessa, before the casting even finished, and they talked for about 30 minutes in Dr. Canessa’s workplace (the hospital), mostly about how their life were before the crash. He phoned Roberto before the last round of casting, because the books had very little information about Enrique, and Canessa invited him home to practice his scenes, and also to talk a lot about Enrique and his family. Netflix wasn’t able to contact the Platero family, so Gustavo Zerbino did it instead. They had a barbecue with Enrique’s nephews and nieces, who knew very little about him, and Fede asked Zerbino a lot of questions, with some chime-ins from the Plateros (3). He later got in contact with Martín Zerbino (son), Juan Pablo Nicola (son of the Nicolas, who passed away in the crash) and, alongside Juani Eirea went to the Valley of Tears in February 2023, where they left letters for Enrique and Juan Carlos (2).
- Jerónimo Bosia (Franciso "Panchito" Abal): Netflix was not able to contact the Abal family, most of them had already passed away. After the movie release, a step sister sent Carlitos an audio message, which got to Jerónimo through Pipe Otaño, talking about how she could now understand that Pancho didn’t make it back so that some would be able to (3).
- Agustín Lain (Carlos Valeta): They told him that he resembles Valeta in his looks and his youth (3). It’s unclear who “they” are, if they were survivors, Vierci or Valeta relatives.
- Lautaro Bakir (Julio Martínez-Lamas): He got to meet the family while filming, which was something very impactful for him. He met a sister while filming at the airport, him in character with a beard. He got most of his information by what Pablo Vierci and Zerbino told him. He was not a rugby player, but was a big fan of the Old Christians and would always participate in the chants (3).
- Lucas Mascareña (Fernando “Flaco” Vázquez): He met Teresa Vázquez, a sister, and her family when they saw him characterized at the airport, and hugged him without saying anything. They recognized him, and could see both his eyes and facial expressions that he played Fernando. A friend of el Flaco says that Lucas’ acting brought him back (2). Fun fact, the actor is a commercial pilot.
- Federico Formento (Daniel Shaw): He was initially unable to contact the Shaw family, so he got bits and pieces from the books. He eventually met with Miguel Shaw, Daniel’s brother, after Pablo Vierci got him his contact, while they were filming the Uruguay scenes (3).
- Francisco Bereny (Felipe Maquirriaín): Sandra Maquirriaín (sister) was involved in the process of the movie (1). I could not find any interview with him.
- Toto Rovito (Alexis Hounié) and Julián Bedino (Guido Magri): Although they do have interviews, I could not find footage of him talking about whether he met the families of who they played, or if they talked with the survivors about them.
- Louta (Gastón Costemalle), Maximiliano de la Cruz (Lt. Col. Dante Lagurara): Although they have speaking roles, I could not find interviews with them talking about SOTS.
- Pablo ??? (Dr. Francisco Nicola): To Juan Pedro Nicola, son, seeing him acting at the airport was magic, like seeing them again (1).
Did not board the plane:
-
Fran Burghi (Alfredo Cibilis): He couldn’t meet Alfredo due to schedule conflicts (3).

2024.05.17 15:40 kittehgoesmeow What A Day: Commander-In-Beef by Crooked Media (05/16/24)
"If [Taylor Swift] ran for President and would listen to great advisers, I'd consider supporting her." - Ray Dalio, hedge fund billionaire, who praised Swift’s ability to bring people together. Diss Tracks
We’re suddenly weeks away from the earliest presidential debate in U.S. history. If that seems unusual, you’re right — in more ways than one.
- It's starting to feel like everything is beef these days. The mega-rap-star-showdown between Drake and Kendrick Lamar has already inspired one Biden-Harris ad, using Lamar’s diss track, “Euphoria.” On Wednesday, President Biden dared disgraced former President Trump to debate with a schoolyard taunt: “Make my day, pal.” Now the old boys are set for June 27, three months earlier than usual. Biden’s tight timeline leaves him all summer to recover if he flops, before round two on September 10. But it also feels like this rumble is coming on faster than anyone was ready for. So what’s with the rush, fellas?
- Just like the Drake-Kendrick beef, there’s plenty of speculation about each side’s motivations. Biden’s bravado may actually be a sign of concern. Recent New York Times polling shows him behind in five-out-of-six key swing states. He needs a way to shake up this race. Trump, equally excited to throw down, may be eager to redo his disastrous performance in 2020, when he yelled out of turn, interrupted the moderator, and shredded decorum to the point of incoherence. He may also be looking for a way to change the subject if a Manhattan jury finds him guilty in a few weeks.
- Biden jeers, Trump sneers. Are we doomed to suffer the tabloidization of politics? These guys are vying to be President of the United States, not climb the Billboard charts. Sure, lots of people find beef entertaining. But there are real stakes here. Reproductive rights, LGBTQ+ rights, and voting rights are being stripped away. Two major international wars have claimed tens of thousands of lives. One candidate stands accused of serious federal felonies. It would be downright refreshing to have a big-boy discussion about actual policies and issues that impact American lives.
Let’s just hope the Biden campaign doesn’t have him walk out on stage to Kendrick’s “Not Like Us,” please. Look No Further Than Crooked Media
We all make bad decisions sometimes, and although you probably have a group chat of friends to dissect what is going on in your life, understanding the nightmare-fuel that is Supreme Court decisions might require a law degree… or 3. So let
Strict Scrutiny be your guide to this decision season. From abortion bans to Trump trials - law professors and hosts Melissa Murray, Kate Shaw and Leah Litman decode the drama and break down everything you need to know- and keep you sane in the process. New episodes release every Monday
wherever you get your podcasts - And
now on YouTube! Plus keep an eye out for bonuses, whenever SCOTUS tries to set the nation back 60 years.
Under The Radar
The Department of Justice vowed to crack down on threats to election officials, the kind that made the 2020 election so fraught and could make 2024 dicey as well. Trump’s stolen 2020 election narrative helped prompt hundreds of such threats. Four-in-10 local election officials say they have experienced threats, harassment, or abuse just for doing their jobs.
But the DOJ’s efforts may not measure up to the sheer size of the problem, according to the latest episode of this newsletter’s sister show, the What A Day podcast. Garland’s
Election Threats Task Force has only brought 13 convictions since its inception in 2021. It’s far from clear how the DOJ will trace each threat back to its source. And this time, they’ll need to grapple with the rise of Artificial Intelligence, which could supercharge both the spread of misinformation and the reach of the worst people.
What Else?
Nearly a dozen MAGA faithful including Reps. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) and Matt Gaetz (R-FL) took more time away from working for their constituents to appear in Trump’s courtroom. The internet dunked on Boebert for attending Trump’s criminal trial,
but not her son Tyler’s recent court date. Apparently blood is not thicker than that sweet, sweet MAGA juice.
Judge Juan Merchan is reportedly growing annoyed with the sideshow. The prosecution asked him to stop the entourage from entering court in the middle of questioning. We will all be very glad when this spectacle is finally over… which it will be. Hopefully. One Day. We think.
The House Judiciary Committee advanced an effort to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress Thursday after the White House refused to give up an audio recording of President Biden’s interview with the special counsel about his handling of classified documents. The White House seems to think Republicans want to take the audio, chop it up, and distort it for political gain. And, of course, they do. But voting to hold Garland in contempt effectively means asking Garland to arrest himself. Good luck with that one, fellas!
The North Carolina Senate voted to ban anyone from wearing masks in public for health reasons… as if the state isn’t still reporting hundreds of respiratory virus cases weekly including COVID-19! Republicans want to crack down on protesters in masks, accusing them of abusing pandemic protection to hide their identities. We know this is really just part of the GOP’s freaky little crusade against masks that is now entering its fourth year.
Cardi B is doubling down on revoking her support of President Biden in a new Rolling Stone interview, and to our disappointment, making a public stance that she is not voting for either candidate this year! Never thought we would see the day we disagreed with the iconic rap star but she has to “Be Careful” with her words and her influence. Sorry Cardi, we don’t like it like that.
A far-right Missouri secretary of state candidate might end up getting sued by rapper Lupe Fiasco for using his music in a diabolical ad featuring homophobic slurs. The ad shows candidate Valentina Gomez randomly running with an armored vest on before she blurts out: “In America, you can be anything you want. So don’t be weak and gay. Stay hard.” She even adds an F-bomb in there for good measure. Not sure what wearing a bulletproof vest for no reason and calling people gay has to do with being Secretary of State but hey, we’re not the * freedom * experts.
Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) said he will pardon a former Army sergeant convicted of fatally shooting a Black Lives Matter protester, citing the state’s “Stand Your Ground” law. A review board recommended Daniel Perry’s release after he was originally sentenced to 25 years in prison last year. Court records revealed Perry regularly shared racist memes and threatening content on social media, and now he will be back out on the streets thanks to Abbott. Perry’s firearm rights were also restored. Another winning day in Texas government!

The Justice Department is moving ahead with its plans to reclassify marijuana as a less dangerous drug. Reclassification wouldn’t legalize weed outright, but would federally recognize its medical use and take it out of the category with drugs like heroin and LSD. High five to that?
The Biden administration announced it will end coal leasing on federal lands in the Powder River Basin, which produces nearly half of the country’s coal in a region spanning 13 million acres across Montana and Wyoming. It’s a huge win for climate advocates pushing to restore an Obama-era moratorium on coal mining on federal lands.

2024.05.17 01:24 TransportationFar935 CHRIS CLAIMS HE IS TALKING TO THE CHILDREN 🧒🏻
2024.05.17 00:43 poriigon I'm Incredibly Frustrated by Resellers
Hey guys, I just need to rant for a bit. Maybe a rant flair would be appropriate someday, as I'm not entirely sure how much this will fall under "discussion" vs. me screaming into the void.
Let's talk Lupe Morphing Potions. The majority of them were already on an inflation notice, typically going for 8-10m. I offered on one last night, was offline when they responded, and they took someone else's offer. Okay, I understand.
But now they and others suddenly have more MPs for 15m a pop! I've been watching the TP pretty obsessively all day to try and find a new listing. I know the market didn't suddenly end up selling a bunch of MPs for them to realize the price changed to 15m. A little tinfoil hat theory here, but I think they're probably in a guild and seeing the demand, probably spiking prices on purpose.
Making a new pet is not an option for me. This pet is a memorial pet who I created with the intention of a different character and then realized she was the perfect pet for my late grandma. She was even created on my birthday. A little backstory: my grandpa died 10 days before I was born, and my grandma always said that me being born allowed her to pour her grief into something productive. So, keeping her birthdate is special to me.
Is this rant a little emotionally charged? Yeah, and I acknowledge that. But I'm so sick and tired and exhausted of my options being to either create a new pet, hope and pray the Lab Ray changes my species into the one I need, or be at the mercy of these people who haven't touched grass in a decade. What is the purpose of exploiting a child's game, exactly?
I know the answer is money and the black market, but that doesn't make it any better. It's embarrassing.
Anyway, yeah. That's the whole post. Anyone else feel beat down? On another note, someone suggested on the Neoboards that TNT put 1 of each basic color morphing potion in the Hidden Tower. I think this would be a great idea. Not sure how LE species would play into that, but it's infinitely better than being manipulated by resellers just because the availability is low.

2024.05.15 14:57 hayema7 June Swap Preview (better late than never!)
May ROTMs have landed and a few of us are waiting on some mystery bundles. The records I've seen on the most tables are Little Richard with it's slick jacket and Earl Sweatshirt. Clint Black, Alice Coltrane, and Don Blackman are all spinning around as well.
A reminder for ROTMs: Moving forward, newly released ROTMs are going to be exclusive to memberships and swaps for 3 months. For example, our May ROTMs will not be available in store until August. With this in mind, anything within 3 months of release is a "good deal." Other titles can be used with store discount codes, so you may be able to get them cheaper in the store. We're getting our first release of ROTMs with way, with January titles hitting the store.
Bonus records are now gone, but referral codes can get you discounts on multi-month memberships if you're interested in joining. Don't forget to check the
referral thread to grab a code or reach out to some individuals if you're considering a 3 ($20 off), 6 ($40 off), or 12 month ($80 off) plan. It's a win-win for everyone.
This month's preview focuses on the June Swap Preview. Remember that not all swaps are "good deals." Some titles cost less than the price of your subscription. Prices for store titles will be included, while past ROTMs range from $37 for some 1LPs to $41 for other 1 and 2LPs and $49 for other 2LPs for members. You can also click "Learn More" and see the member price in your swap preview. With the new titles in swaps, we're seeing values a lot closer to your monthly prices.
All value is based on the new add-on price ($36). If you previously bought a 3, 6, or 12-month subscription, you're at that price on your main track until that subscription ends (I think this is the last month for this). Swapping for credit will get you that old price, which is something to keep in mind at this point. Know your price and know your value. Your price may vary, depending on what subscription level you're at, so be aware of how much you're paying each month before swapping. In no way is this a judgment on the music, but I'm just trying to make sure members don't pay subscription prices for a record that is significantly cheaper in the store.
Titles are broken down into 4 categories (New/will go quickly, solid recent options that are good value, questionable value, and do not swap) themed for September ROTMs with examples from the current swap preview. There are still some great deals to be had, even if we aren't seeing the crazy anthology value.
As always, feel free to post questions about specific titles you may be interested in. The community is very knowledgeable about pressing details and sound. I'm sure a lot of members would be willing to share their reviews of the pressing quality, even if it's in a category that you may not agree with:
Isaac Hayes - Swap Moses: Let Swap Moses part the seas and guide you to the promised land. These titles are the best of the month. Be on to grab them ASAP! They could be a repress of past ROTMs that have been long gone or store titles that aren't around anymore. They're some of the community's favorites. Waitlisted titles under $36 are a gamble. Some stock could've been pulled back. Get them while you can!
Essentials: N/A
Classics: Nina Simone (waitlisted)
RHH: Wu Tang (waitlisted)
Country: N/A
Rock: Little Richard (was locked down from adding toward the end of last month. I'd lock this one in if you want it because I don't forsee it lasting past this month outside of TBT)
Dolly: New Harvest
Store Titles: The Story of Memphis Rap ($269), Yuji Toriyama ($35 but waitlisted), Sampha Unnumbered ($37 but waitlisted), Tony Rice ($35 but waitlisted), The Story of The Comedy Store ($199), Ted Lucas ($27 but waitlisted), ATCQ - Love Movement ($80)
Harry Nilsson - A Little Touch of Swaps in the Night: You won't have to be on quite as fast as other titles, but a touch of these swaps will make for a great month. We're starting to see them selling out a little faster, so if you're interested in something, it's probably a good idea to grab them in swaps. You may have had your eye on and now have some reviews to base your decision on. I don't expect a rush for these titles, but keep an eye on them as the swap window goes on and they may move to low stock. These are recent ROTMs (Past 6 Months Listed), recent represses you may have missed, or in-stock store titles listed for more than the price of your subscription or an add-on track that may be on your wishlist. I also added some that have been popular with VMP subscribers. These are pretty safe bets for the value of your subscription and our frequent swappers.
Essentials: Alice Coltrane (swap exclusive), Harry Nilsson (swap exclusive), Willie Nelson P&S (swap exclusive until July), Fleetwood Mac (now in store), Labelle (now in store), Herbie Hancock, Ray Charles, Ray Barretto, Santigold, Bone Thugs, Stevie Nicks

RHH: Earl Sweatshirt - Doris (swap exclusive), O.C (now in store), Boogie Down Productions (now in store), Masta Killa, Lupe Fiasco, Run DMC, Aesop Rock, Atmosphere, Q-Tip, Goldlink
Country: Clint Black (swap exclusive), Alan Jackson (swap exclusive) Rodney Crowell (swap exclusive until July), Billy Joe Shaver (now in store), Guy Clark (now in store), Wille Nelson (& Family), John Prine, Bobbie Gentry, Waylon Jennings

Store Titles: Chromeo ($45) La the Darkman ($42), Usher - My Way ($53), Kronos Quartet ($40), Willie Nelson - I Don't... ($39), Kiefer ($42), Oneohtrix Point Never (Again $45), Sarah Evans ($39), JOHN ($40), Alicia Keys (Girl on Fire $43), Euphoria S1 ($42), Busta Rhyme ($40), First Choice ($40), Rexx Life Raj ($40), Wayne Shorter Live ($46), Moses Sumney (L@B $40), Alan Braufman ($58), Euphoria S2 ($42), T-Pain ($41), Saba - FGT ($46), Altopalo ($44), Fly Anakin ($41), Black Milk ($40), Mariah Carey - Butterfly ($48), Atmosphere ($43), Joe Bataan ($40)
Charlie Worsham - Swapperband: Like a rubberband, going for these titles is a stretch. You don't save any money (or very little), so be sure to think it through. Have you had your eye on this title for a while or are you just considering them due to the fact that they're in swaps? These titles are close to the price of an add-on track, so don't dive in without considering if you REALLY want them. Think twice about these titles and ask yourself "Would I buy this if it wasn't in swaps because I'm not saving money?" These are often labeled "Swap exclusives" and store titles around $36. It may be a tough decision to swap for these.
Store Titles: Jules ($35), John Glacier Surf Gang ($35), Honky Tonk Angels ($35), OFFAIR: Dr. No's Lost Beach ($35)
Big Pun - Swapital Punishment: Don't punish yourself (or your wallet) by going after these titles. These are titles that I'd encourage you to look elsewhere to purchase, wait for a sale, or buy for less on discogs. This is my personal Do Not Swap list. As an alternative swap for credit and buy in the store, go to Discogs to look for the same pressing at less than the price of your subscription (most applicable for past ROTMs), or wait for a sale. Take your time to find a deal, as these aren't going anywhere. Most of these titles have been around for a long time, and this is VMPs way of getting rid of extra stock while making a few extra bucks. This includes in-stock store titles under $35 and older ROTMs which have been around for years.
Essentials: Aaliyah, Torres, Lapsley, The Books, Kevin Morby, Silvertones, Townes Van Zandt, Experience Unlimited, Sleater Kinny, Jim Sullivan, Dirty Projectors, Beverly Glenn Copeland, Grizzly Bear, Caroline Rose (all showing for less than an add on track in US on Discogs)
Classics: Sarah Webster Fabio, Leon Ware, Frederick Knight, Isaac Hayes, Abbey Lincoln, Teddy Pendergrass, Charles Musselwhite, Sylvester (all showing for less than an add on track in US on Discogs)
RHH: Open Mike Eagle, Queen Latifah, Da Brat, Lord Finesse, Big Boi, Future, Nappy Roots, Eyedea & Abilities, Young MC, E-40, UGK, Gang Starr, J Dilla (all showing for less than an add on track in US on Discogs)

2024.05.14 22:13 smallback Day 34 of the Best Colour for Each Species Poll Series! Last time Candy Meerca was a strooong first, no argument there. Today is a personal fav, and on it's special day, no less--Moehog!
| No surprises with Meerca! Candy is such an incredible design, not just the best Meerca design but maybe one of the best for the colour overall. It won with 35.8% of the votes! Second was the rather stylish Striped with 13.7%, and finally Maraquan with 12.6%. A few honourable mentions, but overwhelmingly in favour of Candy. Vote for Meerca if you haven't here, or check out the results here! If you'd like to see the results for the polls so far, you can check out the tracking sheet here. My ripped king 8-Bit MOehog in a piece titled Guest poser: 8-bit moehog by dragoncima13 on FurAffinity Click here if you've already voted and just want the results! Okay so as it says in the title Moe is my fav pet. I just think its friendly yet dopey face is adorable, and their story of being servants to Skeiths until they left for a better life is just too good not to root for. Still, I will admit their paint brush options leave a LOT to be desired. Most of them barely change anything about the pet, even Moehog-specific wearables are sort of meh. Still, I do have my fav colours. Baby, really sweet looking, just seems happy to be there. Christmas, wrapped up like a present, I think this is such a simple and adorable take on a mixed bag paint brush. Darigan, just feels iconic if not the most terrifying or interestingly designed. The Elderlies both look so sweet here, like they'd be really supportive grandparents. Fire has a fire mane which is a nice touch, even if I'm not a huge fan of the colour overall. I've got a Nostalgic Grey that I use as my lab rat and am obsessed with how devastatingly sad he is. Halloween is an icon too, love the Sloth skull cap. Moehog's friendly little eyes look so sweet and sad in the Magma version, like he's on fire but letting you know it's okay. I've also got a Maraquan Moehog, I like that it's vaguely seacow-ish with the sweet pink nose. Mutant is hilarious, my shopkeeper was a Mutant Moehog for a while named Crump, he still has every disease but he's no less loved for it. Pastel was my first dreamie on my return to Neopets last year, I just think the colouring is perfection even if it's a bit sweeter than a pet I'd normally go for. I also have a Water Moe--I think this brush almost always looks great but especially so on him. Some gripes: Plushie, Tyrannian, Relic, and the Royals are virtually unchanged. They just slightly altered a feature or two, or maybe added some simple clothes. Disappointing given how over the top some pet designs can be in these colours! I realize that's a lot of text for a rather unpopular pet, but it can't be helped. It's a sweetie and I feel strongly about it. If you feel differently, any particular reason why? I know Moehog's are like the pound troll pet, and they've gained a bit of a reputation for being less desirable, I'd love to hear your thoughts! Remember polls are open for a week, so if you haven't you can still vote on Lenny, Lupe, Lutari and Meerca! submitted by smallback to neopets [link] [comments] |
2024.05.13 15:28 GreenUserper A Literal Detail Monster! The 7Hz Aurora
| Review Of The 7Hz Aurora https://preview.redd.it/lwlkfadp370d1.png?width=4032&format=png&auto=webp&s=ba87b5da1004937e7b26a380354d7fa58dd3a10e Pros - Extremely detailed presentation
- Neutral with sub-bass boost tuning
- Crisp and airy treble
- Vibrant and open sounding mid-range
- Articulated and well-controlled bass.
Cons - Peaks and dips in the treble cause uneven presentation, lack the naturality.
- Lack of note weight, lower mid-range is subdued.
Introduction 7Hz, a Chinese firm, has been creating electroacoustic products, specifically IEMs. The business has created several IEMs prior to the release of the Timeless, a full-range planar IEM that catapulted them to prominence. Many people admired and appreciated Timeless for its sound quality and tuning; following their success, they developed several IEMs that were highly accepted in the budget market, including the Zero, Dioko, Sonus, and Zero 2. The business has expanded into inexpensive dongle DACs, releasing 71. Since 7Hz teased the release date for the Timeless II last year, they have instead produced another IEM, their flagship known as the Aurora. Fortunately, I was able to obtain a pair for review, but before I go any further, I'd want to clarify a few points. Price: $399 https://preview.redd.it/c8kree4r370d1.png?width=4032&format=png&auto=webp&s=796683887665545554e51e6872ae4f57026f8616 Disclaimer *Since this unit tour was organised by the kindly people at Linsoul, I am grateful to them. As I've said in all of my evaluations, the same is true for this one: all of the concepts I've expressed below are entirely my own, original ideas that haven't been influenced by anyone else. If interested, go to this link. *I am not associated with the connection, and I receive no financial assistance from anyone. *For the remainder of the review, I will refer to these IEMs as “Aurora.” *I am using different Ear-tips for convenience and better versatility. *Finally, I will only evaluate the Aurora based on their performance, even though I will explain how it feels and seems physically and aesthetically. Specification The Aurora has a tribrid arrangement with four drivers on each side: one 12mm dynamic driver for bass, two bespoke full-range balancing armatures for mids, and a special micro planar for highs. The shells are on the larger side and composed of resin, while the faceplate is constructed of damascus titanium. It is a little troubling for persons with small ears because the shells are large, and the nozzle adjustment made it difficult for me to establish a suitable seal and comfort while wearing them, but after tip rolling, I was able to find comfort and an isolating fit with Azla Sedna Fit Crystals. The cable given is a modular 2-pin cable made of single-crystal copper. The cable feels nice and plasticky, yet it isn't heavy in your hands. The other included accessories include an elegant storage box, a selection of eartips, and modular plugs (4.4mm and 3.5mm). According to the technical specs, the impedance is 30 Ohms and the sensitivity is 105dB. The frequency response ranges from 5Hz to 40kHz, and overall harmonic distortion is less than 0.2 percent. https://preview.redd.it/1qlue8js370d1.png?width=4032&format=png&auto=webp&s=4179f8d74f8c3f28909d68488450ce55c132188d Sound Trust me when I say that Aurora is a literal detail monster, as every aspect of the presentation oozes out details and clarity with a versatile tuning that allows the intricacies and nuances to shower over the mix, bringing excellent clarity and transparency to the presentation. Though I notice that the existence of such notes results in sharp characteristics, I have never experienced a metallic nature. The crispness and air in the treble area, as well as the lively tone of the midrange, combined with a large stage that allows notes to breathe and sound full, result in remarkable detail retrieval. The nicest thing of the entire response is that the definition and tonal balance are nicely established, resulting in a lean yet coherent-sounding presentation. If I look at the graph, it appears frightening with peaks and dips over the treble area, however, such a presentation produces a vibrant and enticing response that isn't overly bright while also including crisp and sparkling aspects of the notes. On the other side, the midrange sounds broader and clearer without adding hotness or peakiness to the mix, while the bass may become a touch too controlled but still present enough to make the response feel full-bodied. Let's go further into the sound and learn more about it. https://preview.redd.it/4d0t3bxu370d1.png?width=4032&format=png&auto=webp&s=29ee4ce4b8b9227fb134eea5ffa9a1889f18c52e Treble The treble area is really funky, whether literally or figuratively, with peaks and dips that enact a new profound feeling of clarity and revelation, and while it does its job, I still find it a touch weak at times while revealing at others. When it comes to the upper treble, the sound is crisp, sharp, and detailed, with strong extension and airy presentation, but in certain sections it is suppressed, which I believe brings out some portions of the songs extremely effectively while subduing others and providing a perplexed response. The lower treble appears to be quite active and exciting to listen to, with voices that sound upfront and bright, while the instruments feel a touch subdued, with subtle nuances. Tracks like Kenka by Kuijira Yumemi feature vocals that may come over as peaky, but that is not the case in Aurora. In truth, the vocals sound completely clear and well established, as do the backing vocals, but an array of instruments sounds a touch subdued, with the nuances suppressed, particularly between 4kHz and 7kHz. However, tracks like Spiral by LONGMAN sound incredibly refreshing and tonally pleasing because they enable guitars and percussion to sound distinctive and prominent without interfering with the vocals; the whole response is engaging. As a result, the overall presentation of the treble area sounds crisp, clear, and revealing, despite being slightly inconsistent in tone. Mid Range In the mid-range, I feel custom-tuned balanced armatures were the best decision; the response in this region does not sound metallic or hot in any manner, but rather tonally agreeable. Whether they are vocals or instruments, both provide a lifelike presence to the mix, making the overall response more revealing and calming without taking away the enjoyment. The upper mid-range is full of vitality, allowing the voices and instruments to take a forward approach that is vivid and detailed without sounding abrasive or rough. The intricacies are highly noticeable in this range, which sounds refreshing and intriguing to the listener. Even though the graph represents the upper mid-range feels very much prominent in the mix and the lower mid-range subdued, but when listening to it, the upper mid-range is well controlled but it shows a forward approach, while the lower mid-range brings a clean response without any vague or weighty response but dense enough to sound thick as instruments like bass guitars or vocals, especially male vocals sounds heavy and rich in terms of natural tone of each note arising. Tracks such as Kizuna No Kiseki by MAN WITH A MISSION and Lead Me On by FLETCHER, whether male or female vocals, have a very rich and full-bodied response even when they sound open and spacious, and the instruments sound as revealing as the vocals and distinct from vocals, allowing nuances to come across and fill the response completely. The forwardness of the vocals allows for an engaging and immersive experience. As a result, the mid-range area is presented in a natural, compelling, and comprehensive manner. Bass Let me tell it honestly. The bass is excellent, and the potential for scaling is very astounding. The bass is quite comprehensive and precisely adjusted to deliver an assertive, noticeable and definite response without feeling ineffective since it subdues the warmth of the mid-bass. The majority of IEMs in this price range offer either highly playful/fun-sounding bass or well-controlled and clear bass. In terms of bass quantity, Aurora's bass lacks weight and organic heft to the notes; yet, the bass is highly textured and detailed, and its impact and power are solidly established. The focus is on the sub-bass, with the bass being deep enough to produce a rumbling sensation when necessary, and the punches being forceful enough to create a full response as well as a sense of resolve. The bass notes are very distinct, allowing for a smooth yet detailed response, but at the expense of warmth and a heavy presence of mid-bass, the slams and thumps lack the characteristics that contribute to a weightless response, but this has little effect on the lower mid-range thanks to the custom dual mid-frequency BAs. In songs like The Reason by Hoobastank, the drums can seem lacking in presence compared to the vocals and other instruments, with the toms and kick drums feeling light and lacking weight. Conversely, in Somewhere I Belong by Linkin Park, the bass has a clear and articulate response, though the impact and heaviness of the bass notes could be stronger. Overall, the bass region is controlled, detailed, and well-articulated. Technical Performance In terms of details, speed, and resolution, I don't believe any other IEMs, such as the Hype 4 or Blessing 3, are even comparable. I'll have to test the Pilgrim to provide comment, but for now, I believe it's the finest in its class. It does not fall short in terms of stage imaging or separation, but it is comparable, if not superior, than the IEMs stated above. Let's be more specific. https://preview.redd.it/08ryi36x370d1.png?width=4032&format=png&auto=webp&s=87b4d81ef6c3158a19672b89c4045e35fef70b6f Soundstage, Sound Imaging & Separation The stage features a holographic presentation that is big enough to create an open and airy atmosphere; the notes are crisp and lucid, demonstrating excellent imaging. The distinctness of the notes creates an excellent feeling of separation between the notes, allowing you to determine the source of the sound with ease. Speed & Resolution As I previously stated, the resolution and detail retrieval are among the greatest I have heard; macro and micro nuances are readily revealed, and the attack and decay of notes is extraordinarily fast-paced, almost unnaturally so, but it still sounds authentic. Sound Impressions Sources Sony WM1A - While listening to WM1A, response spreads out further in the left and right directions, resulting in a more expansive and airy response. The treble sounded smoother and more coherent, while the mid-range sounded more open, allowing the bass to sound more lively and, with warmth added, making the overall bass sound organic and genuine. The details were a little suppressed, delivering a more rounded response, which caused the vocals a touch off-toned on several tracks like Sukinishinayo by ANLY, Kamihitoe by URU, etc. https://preview.redd.it/557nuxny370d1.png?width=4032&format=png&auto=webp&s=824165ac808d4b36c45a2f41bd4c04eae82e6ad6 SIMGOT DEW4X - while listening to the DEW4X, the response sounded a little crisper but not sharp, The stage depth was affected while the width felt more spread out. The treble sounded airy and extensive with pumping details, and the mid-range sounded a little less forward. The bass also felt more centred but had the same impact and physicality. https://preview.redd.it/5z1om160470d1.png?width=4032&format=png&auto=webp&s=936e8628f63b138de16cb77558c869ad6fe890ba QUESTYLE M15i - When listening to this pairing, the response sounds calm, allowing for an expressive and open-sounding response with better control over the revealing nature of the notes, allowing the notes to sound as natural as possible with a presentation spread out far and wide, where the upper mid-range pours everything while remaining airy and spacious. Listening to tracks like Gotye's Somebody That I Used To Know and Love Will Come Through, the vocals sounded incredibly real and detailed while yet being open and light without disrupting the tonal balance. In the end, what may have sounded analytical and impartial came off as well balanced and resolved. The bass felt a touch light but more textured. https://preview.redd.it/6r94gub1470d1.png?width=4032&format=png&auto=webp&s=a3d46bd5e8966c867d31bdaebeccd96f8ee6fa5b QUESTYLE CMA18 - Aurora's response was able to have the appropriate breadth and depth when listening to this pairing since the response was presented more frontally and backward. The vocals and instruments sounded more expressive than previously; with CMA18, the refinement in the notes increased in terms of details and contrast, providing more transparency and linearity throughout the response. The notes were clearer and revealed certain elements. https://preview.redd.it/3qo3n6h2470d1.png?width=4032&format=png&auto=webp&s=431a578629a80eeaae866b375de71aed518d2234 Tracks Millet - Anytime Anywhere Anri - I can’t stop the loneliness Kohana Lam - A Few Sentimental Kohana Lam - Loving Me, Loving You Uru - Kimino Shiawasewo Uru - Kamihitoe Kujira Yumemi - Kenka Majiko - Kokoronashi Anly - Sukinishinayo Kohama Lam - A Few Sentimental Kohana Lam - Loving Me, Loving You Miliyah - Kono Yumega Samerumade Rokudenashi - The Flame Of Love Yu-Peng Chen - A New Day with Hope Yu-Peng Chen - Another Hopeful Tomorrow Yu-Peng Chen - For Riddles, for Wonders Valentino Khan - Satellite Kai Wachi - Happier By Now Jawns - Erotica ISOxo - how2fly Kai Wachi - Happier By Now Weeknd - Popular YUNGBLUD - When We Die(Can We Still Get High) Bring to Horizon - Kool-Aid Middle Kids - Bend FLETCHER - Leads Me On Loathe - Aggressive Evolution The Weeknd - Save Your Tears Sigrid - Burning Bridges AURORA - Black Water Lilies AURORA - Runaway X Ambassadors - Renegades Lupe Fiasco - Words I Never Said Macklemore & Ryan Lewis - Can’t Hold Us Goyte - Somebody That I Used To Know Jay-Z - Run This Town Lady Gaga - Poker Face Lady Gaga - Just Dance Ladytron - Ghost Travis - Love Will Come Through LINKIN PARK - Somewhere I Belong DJ Shadow - Six Days (Remix) Hoobastank - The Reason Ricky Martin - I Don’t Care Tool - 7empest Tool - Vicarious A Flock Of Seagulls - Space Age Love Song Zack Hemsey - Vengeance Elton John - I’m Still Standing The Moody Blues - Nights In White Satin Micheal Sembello - Maniac Guns N’ Roses - Sweet Child O’ Mine A.R. Rahman - Kun Faya Kun Conclusion To conclude this review, I have nothing else to say except that the Aurora is a literal detail monster, not by sounding sharp, lean, or offensive in any way, but by thoroughly and carefully tuning it to sound more natural and professional in terms of technical and tonal performance, which it does flawlessly. I'm completely captivated by the sound signature and the detailed focus presentation, which allows for clear vocals and instrument presentation while being expansive and airy and not affecting the bass's effect on the overall mix. This IEM has my wholehearted approval for anyone who does not want to spend more for details like TOTL IEM but at a third of the price; nevertheless, folks who want warm and more coherent or smooth sounding IEMs ought to try these first before making a decision. https://preview.redd.it/cc4vbq54470d1.png?width=4032&format=png&auto=webp&s=617e2cb3107e155cd28c5c51cdd18b97cd6aa5df submitted by GreenUserper to headphones [link] [comments] |

2024.05.11 03:29 drethamartian Hip-Hop's Cold War: Every Kendrick vs. Drake Diss/Subliminal (2013-2024) [Revised]
Warning: WALL OF TEXT
• Control (2013): Kendrick addresses Drake, along with 10 other rappers, in his verse, prompting passive-aggressive reactions from Drake. Drake downplayed the verse in interviews and seemed genuinely annoyed he had to constantly discuss Kendrick during the rollout for his next album, Nothing Was the Same.
"And that goes for; Jermaine Cole, Big K.R.I.T., Wale, Pusha T, Meek Mills, A$AP Rocky, DRAKE, Big Sean, Jay Electron, Tyler, Mac Miller."
"I got love for you all but I'm trynna murder you niggas, trynna make sure your core fans never heard of you niggas. They don't want to hear not one more noun or verb from you niggas."
• The Language (2013): After months of hating in interviews, Drake finally addresses "Control" on wax, albeit subliminally. He makes it clear he doesn't view Kendrick in the same light as critics do and believes Kendrick is only doing this to get a reaction out of him. Both points would end up common themes whenever Drake addresses Kendrick.
"I don't know why they been lying but your shit is not that inspiring."
"Fuck anybody that's talking that shit just to get a reaction."
"I am the one with the motormouth I am the one you should worry bout."
• BET Awards Cypher (2013): Drake's subliminals on "The Language" prompt Kendrick to make the most direct shots so far, during TDE's cypher at the 2013 BET Awards. Directly referencing Drake's latest album "Nothing Was the Same" only 3 weeks after it released, calling Drake a sensitive rapper, a trend that would continue through this beef.
"And nothing's been the same since they dropped Control and tucked a sensitive rapper back in his pajama clothes."
"I got my thumb on hip-hop, and my foot in the back of your ass."
• Sh!t REMIX (2013): Drake takes the position of Kendrick's big homie, a trend that would also continue in this beef. He makes multiple mentions of helping Kendrick out by giving him a feature and bringing his tour to Los Angeles in 2011 when Kendrick was a much smaller artist.
"Took niggas out the hood like I'm from there, so you know it's all good when I come there."
"I hear you talking about you're city like you run there, then I brought my tour to you're city, you my son there."
• 0 to 100 / The Catch Up (2014): On "The Catch Up," Drake vents to a woman about rappers mentioning him in verses and coming to terms with the fact he's top dog now and the problems that come with that. An obvious reaction to the quick back and forth they had after "Control," he's framing Kendrick, and other rappers, as clout-hungry envious haters that just want his spot.
"Imagine how it feel to watch another nigga at the top, you know that if you wasn't you you would be dissing you dawg?"
• Pay for It (2014): Kendrick goes on the offensive for the first time since the BET Cypher. He directly responds to Drake's "motormouth" lyric from "The Language" and lets Drake know this isn't a warning shot, it's war now.
"Been dissecting your motormouth, til' I break down the engine."
"This ain't no warning shot, this a relevant henchman."
"Ending our friendship, baby I'd rather die alone."
• Used To (2015): Drake references a 2013 interview with Elliot Wilson, where he alleged he saw Kendrick days after the "Control" verse, and his demeanor was quite friendly.
"They gone say you're name on them airwaves, they gone hit you up right after like it's only rap."
• 6PM In New York (2015): On one of Drake's classic timestamp records, he takes shots at a bunch of artists, most notably Tyga. But towards the end of the track, he takes subliminal shots at BOTH Kanye West and Kendrick Lamar. Mentioning "Money Trees" and "Blood On the Leaves" making it clear he's ready to go there with artists of any caliber.
"Why you rapping like you come from the streets? I got a backyard where money seems to come from the trees, and I'm never ever scared to get some blood on my leaves."
• King Kunta (2015): Kendrick subliminally addresses rappers trying to sit on his throne. Most notably though, are the bars about rappers with ghostwriters. When this song first released nobody knew who Kendrick was referring to. But months later, after Meek Mill exposed Drake for using ghostwriters, it became obvious who King Kunta was referencing. It was at this exact point the entire dynamic of the beef began to change.
"I got a bone to pick. I don't want you monkey mouth motherfuckers sitting at my throne again."
"I can dig rapping, but a rapper with a ghostwriter? What the fuck happened?"
"I swore I wouldn't tell, but most of y'all sharing bars like you got the bottom bunk in a 2-man cell."
• Hood Politics (2015): While there are no direct shots at Drake, Kendrick does make reference to reactions to the "Control" verse. He talks about people in our culture being too sensitive and that further dissing could lead to violence because of that. But makes it clear he can press the "red button" and get the West Coast involved if it has to go there. More directed towards East Coast vs. West Coast than Drake, but still relevant to the lore.
"Unless you talking about power, yeah I got a lot of it. I'm the only rapper next to Snoop that can press the button."
"Had the coast on standby, 'K Dot what's up? I heard they opened up Pandora's box, I'll box 'em all in by a landslide."
"I resolved inside that private hall while sitting down with JAY (JAY-Z), he said 'It's funny how one verse can fuck up the game.'"
• 100 (2015): Drake makes another big bro maneuver. Featuring on a Compton legends song (The Game), while filming the music video in Compton. The verse seems to be a reaction to the praise Kendrick received for "To Pimp a Butterfly" he wants Kendrick to know that if he felt like it, he could make an album just as great as TPAB. He also claims Kendrick's recent music gets no play in the club and when it does, the reaction is lackluster.
"I would have all of your fans if I didn't go pop and I stayed on some conscious shit."
"I'm in the club every time they play the competition, if they even play the competition, and I seen the response they get."
• Darkside/Gone (2015): Kendrick one ups Drake. Likely upset a Compton legend allowed Drake to diss him on a song, Kendrick teams up with THE Compton legend on an album named "Compton" to respond to Drake. Directly referencing Drake's song "Enemies" and pokes fun at the constant subliminals Drake continues to send.
"But I still got enemies giving me energy I want to fight now."
"Subliminal sent to me all of this hate, I thought I was holding the mic down."
• Deep Water (2015): The more direct of the Compton soundtrack disses. He again references a Drake song, this time "Started From the Bottom," asserting that unlike Drake, he really started from the bottom. There are also references to the number "6" which Drake has a known affinity for.
"Motherfucker know I started from the bottom."
"They liable to bury him, they nominate six to carry him. They worry him to death but he no vegetarian."
"The beef is on his breathe, inheriting the drama better than a great white, this is life in my aquarium."
• Summer Sixteen (2016): Phase two of the beef begins here. In 2015 President Barack Obama was asked who would win in a beef between Kendrick Lamar & Drake. Barack Obama picked Kendrick, and obviously, Drake doesn't agree. A quick sub to Kendrick on a song mostly focused on the Meek Mill beef.
"Tell Obama that my verses are just like the whips that he in, they bulletproof."
• Untitled 02 (2016): Kendrick pokes fun at Drake, parodying his "If You're Reading This" flow on the last verse. No real direct shots but some possible subs.
"I can put a rapper on life support, guarantee that's something none of you want."
• Untitled 07 (2016): On the penultimate song from Untitled Unmastered, Kendrick addresses a few artists who sent shots at him after TPAB. Though the Jay Electronica shots are most notable, he does take a second to remind Drake that he's not ready for war. Essentially calling Drake a bitch.
"You niggas fear me like y'all fear God."
"Before you poke out your chest, loosen your bra."
"The mastemind, and til' my next album, more power to you."
• Grammys (2016): While there are no obvious shots at Kendrick, this is an important song in the lore. On this song Drake starts the "Top 5" discussion in hip-hop, and saying his spot there is not for debate. This would be referenced on many disses moving forward.
"Most niggas with a deal, couldn't make a greatest hits."
"Y'all a whole lot of things, but you still ain't this."
"Whole city going crazy, top 5 no debating. Top 5, top 5, top 5."
• For Free (2016): One of the more weird instances in this beef. Drake makes a sly reference to Kendrick's 2015 song, For Free? (Interlude). It's not clear if this was an attempt at being friendly again, or a petty pot shot. Although seeing how things played out after, I'd assume this reference was VERY tongue in cheek.
"And like your boy from Compton said "You know this dick ain't free."
•4PM In Calabasas (2016): On another of Drake's classic timestamps records, he shouts out Kendrick once again. This song reads as a post-Views victory lap. But Drake is still clearly taking the position as Kendrick's big homie, the guy that took him on tour when he was a starving artist. Also the first time Drake ever mentioned Kendrick's name on wax.
"When they told me take an R&B nigga on the road (Chris Brown), and I told 'em no and drew for Kendrick and Rocky"
• Gyalchester (2017): Drake makes a direct reference to Grammys. Asserting that's he's no longer just top 5, he's top 2 and he's not #2. Kendrick would obviously take exception. The artist he's been compared to for the last 4 years just claimed the #1 spot on record.
"I know I said top 5 but I'm top 2, and I'm not 2, and I got one, thought you had one, but it's not one, nigga nah."
• The Heart Part 4 (2017): Kendrick becomes the big dog. In the two years since TPAB, Kendrick received a ton of criticism from other artists. Downplaying the impact of the record, downplaying Kendricks skill as an MC. He was being boxed in as the "Black Power" rapper and artists not named Drake (Big Sean, Jay Electronica, Lupe Fiasco) were beginning to feel very comfortable shooting at Kendrick. Then comes The Heart Part 4. This was almost like Kendrick's 5AM in Toronto. He's now established as a top dog in the game, and he let's everybody, including Drake, know. A lot of bars on here could be interpreted as Big Sean disses, but Kendrick counting up to 5 and proclaiming himself as the greatest rapper alive was clearly a response to Gyalchester. Kendrick also name drops JAY-Z, referring to him as Hall of Fame. This could be interpreted as a shot at Big Sean, who has an album of the same name, or Drake, who had just had a public feud with JAY-Z the year before.
"My fans can't wait for me to son you're punk ass and crush you're whole lil shit. I'll big pun your punk ass, you a scared little bitch."
"Tip toeing around my name nigga you lame, and when I get at you homie don't you tell me you was just playing."
"Yelling one, two, three, four five. I am, the greatest rapper alive."
"Hoe JAY-Z hall of fame, sit yo punk ass down."
"Go celebrate with your team and let victory vouch you, just know the next game played I might slap the shit out' you."
"A difference between accomplishments and astonishments."
• ELEMENT. (2017): Much like The Heart Part 4, this song is also seen as a Big Sean diss primarily. But the 2023 leaked version shows Kendrick was prepared to use this song to kick off the Drake beef officially. Obviously, things changed and he went with a more commercial version, but still had shots. The most direct shot to Drake being a reference to Drake being in Compton shooting the "100" music video, and another call back to the Top 5 lyrics from Grammys. This was also the beginning of the "Bogeyman" narrative surrounding Kendrick, as he begs any rapper to say his name on wax.
"I don't do it for the gram, I do it for Compton."
"If I gotta slap a pussy ass nigga, I'ma make it look sexy."
"Mr. one through five, that's the only logic."
"Niggas want to flex on me and be in LA for free huh? Next time they hit the 10 freeway, we need receipts huh?"
"Most of y'all throw rocks and try to hide your hand. Just say his name and I promise that you'll see candy man."
"Last LP, I tried to lift the black artist, but it's a difference between black artists and wack artists."
• GOD.* (2017): Kendrick once again trolls Drake's flow. This time copying the flow from Drake & Kanye's song "Glow" no direct shots or subliminal's really.
• Mask Off Remix (2017): Kendrick's post-DAMN. Victory lap. After years of Drake being able to big bro him in the beef, Kendrick outsells and outperforms Drake in 2017. Kendrick now takes the position of being just as commercial as Drake, while still being true to himself. The gap had finally been closed, authenticity and artistry begin to play an even bigger role in the beef.
"Platinum, platinum, platinum, gotta look at yourself and ask what happened."
"How y'all let a conscious nigga go commercial while only makin' conscious albums?"
"How y'all let the braids on the TV? How y'all let the hood at the table?"
•Family feud (2017): Interestingly enough, at this point it had been 2 years since Drake sent any direct shots at Kendrick. And honestly at this point there wasn't much he could say. Kendrick was still active, moving the culture, and just as relevant as Drake. These bars are seen as a warning to Meek in case he wanted to start the beef again, but I think it's more directed at Kendrick. Drake sees the gap closing, but makes it clear he can still go there with Kendrick if need be. Possibly the biggest reach of this list, but it tracks.
"But this ain't all about calling truce I'm, still dishin' out verbal abuse. That shit could get reintroduced if somebody got something they urging to prove nigga"
•All the stars (2018): Kendrick had a monster 2017 with the release of DAMN. So monster even Drake had to recognize it. I can't find an exact link to the article, but Drake congratulated Kendrick on his success during an interview. Possibly another olive branch like For Free, but Kendrick clearly wasn't feeling it. He tells Drake to keep his fake praise to himself. And even just plain out states he doesn't like Drake.
"Fuck you and all your expectations, I don't even want your congratulations"
"I recognize your false confidence and calculated promises. All in your conversation"
"You endorsin'? Motherfucker, I don't even like you"
"I want the credit if I'm losing or I'm winning"
•Diplomatic immunity (2018): Possibly a little upset at Kendrick dismissing his congratulations, Drake goes back on the offensive for the first time since "100". He reaffirms his position as Kendrick's big homie by referencing songs from To Pimp a Butterfly, U and I. Essentially telling Kendrick he got too much dip on his chip after 2017, and to remember where he came from.
"They try to compare us but, like a job straight out of high school there's no U and I"
"I taught you everything you know now you got student pride"
•Sandra's rose (2018): In 2018 Drake had a lot more to worry about than Kendrick Lamar. He spends the majority of Scorpion going at Kanye West & Pusha T, but made sure Cornrow Kenny caught a stray too with a reference to "Mortal Man" from TPAB. After this we would see Kendrick withdraw from the game for a while due to personal reasons and the 2020 pandemic, essentially surrendering the throne to Drake. At least for the time being.
"I walk in godly form amongst the mortal men"
•Family ties (2021): In the 3 years since Sandra's rose, Drake has continued to run the score up. Going on an insane run of #1 hits, and establishing himself as not only the biggest act in rap, but arguably the biggest in the world. With the change in sound hip-hop was going through, some wondered if Kendrick still had a place in this game as a top rapper. Could he still make hits and be relevant to the culture? Or was he going the André 3000 route? This banger with Baby Keem answered all those questions. Kendrick comes with a refreshed energy, addressing his absence, and making it very clear he still sees himself as the best rapper in the world. He once again references the Drake "Top 5" line from Grammys, and makes allegations that Drake's numbers have been falsified. Baby Keem even gets a shot in towards the end as he alleged Drake or, Number 2, was messaging his girl. Reaffirming to Drake they still see him as #2, and insinuating Drake is a thirst god.
"Smoking on your top 5 tonight" "Don't you address me unless it's with four letters"
"Last year, y'all fucked up all the listener, who went platinum? I call that a visor. Who the fuck backin' 'em? All been falsified"
"#2 DM'ing my bitch, that's cool, I don't ask why"
•No friends in the industry (2021): Drake's responds to Family Ties with his most direct shot since Sandra's rose. Much like Scorpion, Drake was pretty preoccupied with Kanye West for this project, but made sure to let Kendrick know he can't touch him in the numbers game anymore.
"Fuck debating who the GOAT. Better not make this shit about the numbers all I know, better not make this shit about the summers all I know"
•Father time (2022): After Kanye and Drake got back together in 2021 for a Larry Hoover concert, a lot of fans were confused, Kendrick being no different. He likely saw some of himself in Kanye, and wonders how somebody with a mind like Kanye links back up with somebody who's taunted him and his family for years. You can literally hear the disappointment in Kendrick's voice, but he uses it as an opportunity to self-reflect and wonder if he's going about his issues with Drake the wrong way. This was also Kendrick's first time saying Drake's name on wax since "Control".
"When Kanye got back with Drake, I was slightly confused. Guess I'm not mature as I think, got some healing to do"
•Churchill Downs (2022): Drake finds a new angle. With Kendrick returning to the game with Mr. Morale and The Big Steppers, not everybody was so impressed. Drake begins to poke at Kendrick's height, and his lack of presence in the game since 2017. He almost seemed offended that somebody who took 5 years off could still be mentioned in the same breath as him.
"All I hear is tall tales coming from little men"
"Same ones that say they run the game when they not even in it"
•The hillbillies (2023): A hilarious parody of "Sticky" from Honestly, Nevermind. No direct shots or subs, but Kendrick and Keem are clearly poking fun at Drake for making a mediocre dance album.
•AMERICA HAS A PROBLEM (2023): Scary foreshadowing. Kendrick admits that the spirituality he's showcased since Mr. Morale has been a little inauthentic, because there's somebody out there he still REALLY wants to slap the shit out of. He also warns this artist's day one fans to have some facts on them. Just insane, and makes you wonder how long Kendrick has really been scheming.
"Truthfully I be lying in my rap songs, cause I always fail to mention I'll slap homie"
"His career didn't come with no life insurance, hope his day one fans got some facts on them"
•First person shooter (2023): This is an interesting one, because Drake doesn't really send any shots. Besides calling himself the GOAT, and comparing himself to Michael Jackson, not much on here can track back to Kendrick. J. Cole does mention Kendrick as a member of the Big 3, but then says the Spiderman meme is me looking at Drake. Likely asserting Kendrick's lack of activity puts Cole in that #2 spot officially. It feels like a narrative was being pushed that Drake & Cole were the top 2. Kendrick once again takes exception to this, wondering how these guys are BFF's all of a sudden. Wondering how somebody like Cole aligns himself with somebody like Drake. Hearing Drake flex beating a Michael Jackson record, while giving Cole his first #1. Cole and Drake claiming the top 2 spots? This was the moment Kendrick decided to go nuclear.
"Who the GOAT? Tell me who you really rooting for. Like a kid who act bad from January to November, nigga it's just you and Cole."
"Love when they argue the hardest MC. Is it K-Dot, is if Aubrey or me? We the Big Three like we started a league, but right now I feel like Muhammad Ali."
"Rhyming with me is the biggest mistake, the Spiderman meme is me looking at Drake."
"Everybody steppers, well fuck it, then everybody breakfast and I'm bout to clean up my plate."
"Niggas steady talking 'bout when this gonna be repeated, what the fuck bro? I'm one away from Michael, nigga beat it."
"Stories About My Brother (2023): Once again some insane foreshadowing. This song is Drake once again reaffirming his status as top dog, and shouting out the shooters he keeps around him. He also talks about artists banding together to put a dent in his armor. He then addresses Kendrick, telling him Mr. Morale was 'buns'. He also wants Kendrick to know nobody would care if he retired, saying he's not 'Kobe Bryant' to us, possibly a reference to Kendrick & Kobe's 2017 interview. Though some argue these are Kanye West shots, the Kobe reference swings it towards Kendrick in my opinion. The final chapter of subliminals. Clearly Kendrick had enough.
"Your last album was buns, you niggas Hawaiian as fuck."
"I can't wait for the day you choose to retire your stuff, takin' off the sneakers cause you tired of lacing 'em up."
"That's how you gonna find out you not Kobe Bryant to us."

2024.05.10 02:56 HellaRetro A few days until our first CaliRoots Festival!
2024.05.10 00:58 AgentNose It seems Little Lupe turned her life around and is a somewhat successful DJ.
2024.05.10 00:19 smallback Day 32 of the Best Colour for Each Species Poll Series! Last time Spotted Lupe totally blew everyone else out of the water. Today is Lutari!
| I mean I did expect Spotted to win or be in the top 3, but it really blew all the others out of the water with 28.1% of the votes, second place was Marble with a distant 10.1%, prior to this poll I actually don't think I'd ever seen a Marble Lupe, it's fun how the sort of outliers make their way to the top like that. Third place was Halloween with 9%, and there were a few other honourable mentions floating around 7%. Fun split! Vote for Lupe here if you haven't, or check out all the results for Lupe here. If you'd like to see the results for the polls so far, you can check out the tracking sheet here. this is a Marbled Polecat, the creature that the latest Spotted Lutari was based on. it was either this or a vaguely fetishistic illustration of a guy transforming animorph-style into a female faerie lutari. Click here if you just wanna see the results! And remember polls are open for a week so take a look to see what's been posted recently if you wanna participate! Lutaris! My fav thing about them is that they have an island we just can't go to anymore, from a game that stopped being available almost 15 years ago. It's cute though! Camo looks great, love the simple gradient. Love the hooded Desert look, a nice change from constant pharoh-inspired pets. I love how maximalist Faerie looks, almost looksl ike it has glittery wings? Halloween is cool, over the top for sure, and out of place a bit amongst other Halloween pets but a fun concept. Maractite looks great too, lots of fun use of the markings. I am like 99% sure Maraquan is gonna win here, Axolotl design was just too perfect. Mutant is of course cool here as well (really there just aren't many bad mutants). Pastel's colouring is adorable, I LOVE it's little pink nose! Great job with Spotted, too. I hope more Spotted pets go this direction. What're your favs? There's been a bit of a dip in votes lately, maybe it's because we're at a sort of midway point and folks are getting a scooch tired of these, or maybe it's 'cause they're not seeing them. Hopefully it's just the latter, which can be remedied by a humble upvote, so please do if you could! submitted by smallback to neopets [link] [comments] |
2024.05.09 22:33 79watch Six Drogas of Separation - Round 1
Hopefully y'all are familiar with this game! I thought it would be a fun little exercise to do until Samurai drops. I'm thinking of doing a new person every day or two, depending on engagement.
Objective: Get from Lupe to the target person with as few degrees of separation as possible.
Rules: Acceptable forms of connection include photos, songs, movies or other media collaborations that would imply or prove that these people met in person or worked together in some capacity. Start with a connection from Lupe to another person by posting a photo or link to the project, then continue from person 2 to 3, 3 to 4, etc. until you reach the target. You must get to the target by #6.
Example: Example target is Tom Brady.
- link to a CRS song (for Kanye)
- link to a photo of Kanye & Kim K
- link to the Tom Brady roast featuring Kim K
It took 3 degrees of separation to reach the target in this example. Yay!
OK, Let's play! Target 1:

2024.05.08 10:41 ReWrightTheArtist What's Your Usual Process? (Low-to-Mid level players)
I'm just curious, I have a routine I go through whenever I get out of bed in Los Santos, so I was thinking, how does everyone else do it? What's the first thing you do? What's your process? Is there one at all? That's the TL/DR version, the rest is... basically exposition. ***
*** My level is in the low 100s currently. I'm in the process of buying up properties and optimizing my potential profit per hour, because I don't get a lot of time to play usually, I need the bag.
So, my current routine.
Usually I set my spawn to the CEO office before I exit the game, so that's where I start. I play in solo lobbies because of my rather low level and suboptimal setup. Not tryna get grief'd. Can't really afford it yet.
I'm gonna try to abbreviate this, because I just tried writing it out and it's too much lol
*Key* [Respawn @ ...] = Start a new solo (crew or invite only) lobby after adjusting spawn location in the quick menu (preferences/spawn location) Bullet = Action taken Sub-bullet = Something done/that happens during another action Sub-sub-bullet = In case Bullet action is unavailable **
CEO
- Fill Snacks
- Run Mixed Goods
- Source Crates (Lupe at the Cargo Warehouse)
- Either chased (Easy), cops (Easy), or clear
- 5-6 minutes / $50K profit
- Locate and Knock Over Stash House (If Available)
[Respawn @ Bunker]
Bunker
- Check Stock / Supplies
- Resupply if needed
- Note if stock is full
- Run Weapons
- Either chased (Med-Hard), or clear
- If chased, weaving helps avoid getting rammed off the road
- Try not to let them get up beside you
- 5-6 minutes / $50K profit
[Respawn @ MC]
MC
- Collect Safe (If Full)
- Mod a Customer Bike
- Usually only what they specify, besides choosing a wheel color, for the sake of time
- 5-8 minutes / $40K profit
[Drive to Nightclub (specific reason for driving)]
Nightclub
- Throw Out Problem Patron / Take Home VIP
- Option does not happen if you spawn here
- 2-6 minutes / Popularity boost (I believe at least 20%)
- Rehire DJ for 10% boost. 2 minutes / Costs $10K
- Collect Safe (If Full)
- Check Stock
[Respawn @ Auto Shop]
Auto Shop
- Mod a Customer Car
- Usually only what they specify, besides choosing a wheel color, for the sake of time
- 5-8 minutes / $20-35K profit
- Can be done twice if 2 bays are owned
[Respawn @ Arcade]
Arcade
- Collect Safe (If Full)
- Check Stock / Supply for all MC Businesses
- Resupply if needed
- Note if stock is full
[Respawn @ Casino]
Casino
- Spin The Daily Wheel (If Available)
[Request Acid Lab]
Acid Lab
- Check Stock / Supplies
- Resupply if needed
- Note if stock is full
- Boost Acid Production (If Available)
- Sell Stock (If Full)
** Overall time of process = Approx. 30-60 minutes. Take = Approx. $160K-960K**
It's usually at this point where I start with my bigger sales and restart the cycle. Acid sale usually comes first, since it's the last passive business I check that requires supplies and holds stock, but then I cycle back through from the top of the list, Starting with the CEO office, the Bunker, etc. but taking the time to complete any sell missions I can.
I do it this way because I know that the entire cycle will take about the time it takes for an in-game day to elapse. When I start my routine over, I should be able to do the exact same thing, while adding my sell missions as I go.
After a second cycle, I'll know that I probably can't resupply or sell anything else, so I head to the agency, collect it's safe (if it's full), and get back to completing contracts to maximize the passive income there (I've got, like... 175 contracts to go), or taking care of other activities if I feel like changing the pace a little. Then hit the cycle again with the agency added in.
Usually if I can get in a session that's about 2-3 hours long and can grab a couple safes, I can walk away with around $2-2.5M, which... making around $650K/hr without utilizing the Cayo Perico heist AND before selling any stock is impressive in my eyes.
That said, I do plan on throwing the heist at the end of my second cycle, which will boost my 3-hour profit by over $1M. And since I know it's a long cooldown, I can run the usual cycle again before another heist becomes available.
I don't mind the grind, but I know it's not the most optimal path to money. I have:
- A CEO Office
- A Bunker
- Vehicle and Crate Warehouses
- A MC along with the Coke, Weed, and Meth warehouses
- An Agency
- An Auto Shop
- An Apartment
- A Diamond Casino Penthouse (didn't buy)
- A Nightclub
- An Arcade
- and An Acid Lab
Lots of this stuff I've had a long time, because I bought GTA when it first released on 360, then again for the PC around 5 years ago. Long story short, I don't use some of these like I used to, or at all in some cases. But I still enjoy loading up and going through my routine, so it works for me.
Eh.. sorry so long.

2024.05.07 20:43 FreeUrbanClown Question: What Would be on your dream B-Sides/Rarities album if they released one?
I've been on another Frats binge lately, and that includes the B-Sides and stuff I could only get from owning the physical media (which I do). And it's got me thinking, what songs would I like to see "re-released" so to speak, and internationally available on streaming services. My approach has been to prioritise stuff not already available through streaming but I'd be interested to see what y'all would do.
As follows, is my dream track listing with intermittent notes
- Too Much Talk In Tokyo
- Oh Scarlett
- Pretty Like A Girl (would love a studio recording, but the live version would be welcome)
- All Along The Watchtower
- Meatwagon Action (studio recording in a dream scenario where there's infinite budget and enthusiasm)
- They Go Down
- Headcase
- Solid Gold Easy Action
- Sometimes You Just Can't Win
- Lupe Brown (Alternative Version)
- Satellite (from Free Urban Clown, though I know this would never make it on in a million years)
And I'm just gonna pop this down here as a little bonus rather than make another post, Another dream would be to get an album of The Fratellis & Wild Tonics studio recording the live versions of Frats songs (plus maybe some originals too?)
Obviously, this is just me fantasising on a breezy tuesday evening.
I'd be interested seeing what other people would put on here, I assume that for the most part my choices are pretty basic.

2024.05.06 17:57 CreepyAssociation173 So Drake basically just exposed how fake of a person he really is.
Just the fact that he was ready to use someone's childhood sexual assault against them to try and make himself not look like a pedo speaks volumes to who Drake is as a person (he misinterpreted it, but still). Only the lowest of lowes do that and Drakes so caught up in his "tough boy" persona that he's willing to attack people for things that happened to them as a child. Shows where he stands on the matter and how much he actually cares about things like that happening to kids.
Drake is just a vile person that stands for nothing. He doesn't care about anyone but himself and his career needs to die to make way for some actual talent. Kendrick should've been bigger than him a long time ago. It's time to put conscious rap back on the map and not just on the back burner so people like Drake can take in all the credit for popular modern rap.
When there's Kendrick, Little Simz, Tobe Nwigwe, Coast Contra, Lupe Fiasco, and Tyler the Creator...who needs Drake? His music could be taken off from every platform and it wouldn't change the game at all to me. It wouldn't feel like an actual loss to me. I never understood his hype from the beginning to now.

2024.05.05 23:22 AustralianChrono Chronologica's Drag Race Season 5: Reunited!
“Are you ready?” Yasmin Raiz places a MASSIVE bowl of fried rice onto the table. “Hi everyone, it’s Yasmin Raiz, your Season 4 Mx Congeniality, and I’m here to host our REUNION of Season 5 of Chronologica’s Drag Race!” Yamin stands to welcome the monarchs. “Welcome back the lovely contestants of CDR Season 5! Madam Maine!”
Madam Maine re-wears her finale look: a top hat, fitted black and white suit and a pair of silver boots with a cane. She bows and smiles broadly, looking nervous.
“Kaia K. Beauvoir!”
Kaia strides out confidently in an elaborate gold and silver pageant dress, with silver hair that glitters with metallic extensions.
“Cwunchie!”
Cwunchie is dressed as a little yellow plastic flower, with big petals and a tiny narrow stem. Her arms and legs are constricted at her sides in the stem and she hops along the runway towards her chair, grinning wildly.
“Now, let’s welcome the elephant in the room.” Yasmin smiles. “Bates Baghdashi, everyone!”
Bates arrives in a sepia-painted Agatha-Christie-esque detective look, with decadent shades of tan, brown, and black, an oversized magnifying glass, a briefcase, and a messy mop of Sherlockian curls.
“Oh, I love this.” Yasmin claps.
Bates lights an oversized origami faux cigarette, pretends to smoke from it, then flicks it away, where it unfurls into a bird, already aflame, and blasts away into the air, powered by a miniature firework.
Madam Maine looks very afraid for a moment, and starts to stand up.
“Before we continue, I want to let everyone know that their safety is assured! You are not in danger.” Yasmin smiles at Maine. Bates blushes.
Maine sits back down.
“Say hello, it’s Mermaid princess, Cleo Mertoris!”
Cleo wears a golden seashell bikini top stoned to the gods, showcasing some clear, recent work done on her chest, as well as a tight blue mini dress, as she flicks back her long luscious ginger hair with a smirk.
“Drag Princesita!”
Princesita waves in a sepia coloured maxi dress and bald head look, with bronze glitter on the top of her now shaved head, as she spins around with a smile on her face.
“It’s Briar Midnights!”
Briar walks out dressed quite similar to Ambrose’s traditional look- a tophat and sleek black trench coat, with jet black, wet hair and a half-smirk.
“Ms Stripes, Starzanne!”
The others look unimpressed as Starzanne walks out in an American Eagle style look, with feathers, glitter and fringe wrapped around her body.
“Ambrose NOIR!”
Amborse wears a black plaid mini skirt and white linen shirt, going for a rare fem drag look, with long black braids with hundreds of little pins wrapped into the braids.
“S-S-e-v-e-r-a!”
Severa rocks BODY on the main stage, wearing a bikini top and denim short combo, as well as a sensible pair of blue boots and pigtails to add the final touch.
“Magenta! Leigh! Simmons!”
Magenta gaps, wearing a Magenta coloured plaid look, wrapped around her body to create a fitted garment, along with a Magenta pair of sneakers.
“Jupiter Sterling!”
Jupiter rocks a head to toe, douchebag Vuitton look- jacket, shirt, pants, glasses and a backwards baseball cap.
“Apocalyptica!”
Apocalyptica looks slightly displeased- wearing a bright, toxic green look that appears to have toxic slime wrapped around her, in a similar vein to a past look.
“Lupe LaBelleza!”
Lupe wears a sensible pussycat wig, red coat and matching pencil skirt, with a black sheer turtleneck and a red fedora, along with a pair of black sheer socks being held up by garter belts and classic black pumps with a smile.
“And our winner, Nymphe d’Azote!”
Wearing her crown on her shoulders, her head too small for her crown, Nymphe is dressed in a glittering yellow robe, wearing a matching facemask looking ready for a spa moment, along with a wig, made entirely of bubbles!
Yasmin smiles, handing people plates of rice. “Now, today we're spilling ALL of the TEA. At the start of our season, we said goodbye to some girls that some fans really wanted to see more of. Say hello to Madam Maine, Miss Kaia K. Beauvoir, and…”
“CWUNCHIE!!!!” Cwunchie interrupts happily.
Severa rolls her eyes.
Cleo rolls her eyes.
Kaia rolls her eyes.
Severa glares at Cleo.
Cleo glares at Kaia.
Kaia glares at Severa.
Yasmin smiles. “Madam Maine. Once and for all, can you tell us why you’re named after a state you’re not even from?”
“Oh! Haha.” Madam Maine laughs nervously, eyeing the cameras. “I really like Maine. I have a French Canadian aunt who lives up there.”
“French Canada? Is she related to French Montana?” Magenta asks.
“Oh…no.” Madam Maine smiles awkwardly.
“A lot of our viewers this season questioned whether you were totally ready for the Drag Race experience. What’s your take?”
“I will be honest. I wasn’t.” Maine flushes. “I don’t think that I totally understood the caliber of some of these performers, and…I was in such awe of them. I feel really lucky that I’ve gotten to know some of my castmates, including all the first outs before me. Jupiter and Princesita especially, I really feel have shown me love.”
“You’re a sweetheart, honey.” Princesita smiles. “I hope you get your chance to come back someday too.”
“Are we going to do that every few seasons? Because it’ll get old, QUICK.” Severa responds. “Twists are only twists if we don’t see them coming.”
“Agreed.” Kaia says.
Princesita frowns.
Yasmin looks at Kaia. “Kaia, you represented, I believe, our first instance of a child of Drag Race–that is, your drag mom, The Mother Delilah, competed on season 2.”
“That’s right.” Kaia nods, keeping one eye warily on Severa and Cleo. “As a trans woman, it was important to me to be part of a legacy of successful trans women.”
“Delilah was successful?” Severa half jests with a smirk. “I think there have been plenty of trans women on the show who were more successful.”
Lupe looks like she wants to say something, but doesn’t.
“Whatever, I’m proud to be a daughter of Miss Delilah regardless and even more proud of having a healthy and kind relationship with the woman who inspired my craft.” Kaia says haughtily. “Not all of us can say that after all.”
“Ooooooooo…” the room roars.
Severa makes a displeased face and shrugs.
“One question about your time on the show, Kaia.” Yasmin looks around. “Why do you, in particular, think you ended up going home so early? A lot of fans were very surprised.”
“I think it’s quite obvious that Cleo’s leadership in that challenge was disastrous for me and everyone else on it. I’d assume that Cleo’s current appearance reflects how people received her during this season.”
“You mean my gorgeous knockers?” Cleo shimmies.
“I mean, your cheap bra and panty set.” Kaia snaps. “And-”
“You’re so smug.” Cleo interrupts. “As if you have anything to be smug about. Not with that mug, you don’t, mate.”
“At least I can still afford my makeup.” Kaia shoots back.
Cleo huffs and crosses her arms.
“Cwunchie! You were a force of nature for a short time with us this season.” Yasmin looks nervous to even speak to Cwunchie.
“WOOOOOOHOOOOO!” Cwunchie yells. “This show did NOT disappoint! I–”
It then cuts to an ad break.
~
“Welcome back to the Chronologica’s Drag Race Season 5 Reunion! Onto, the infamous, Bates!” Yasmin smiles. “You had one of the most DRAMATIC moments, ever in history. Let’s look back.”
Bates grins as the cast turns to watch the TV screen.
~
Will the following-
Wait.
Everyone looks concerned. For a moment, the stage is perfectly still, as the judges and racers wait with uncertainty.
In the distance, sirens are heard. The sirens get closer. And closer.
Suddenly, a group of police officers in full riot gear burst into the room through a production door. Crew members and producers look shocked and frantic. The police officers are led by a stern-faced man with a badge that reads "Officer Jeffery," who steps forward, his hand gripping a pair of handcuffs.
What?
Office Jeffrey points directly towards the racers. Everyone looks to see who he’s pointing at.
Bates stares back at the officer expressionless, blood still dripping from their look.
"Mahdi Hakimian?” The police officers crowd onto the stage towards Bates.
“Oh my god.” Magenta gasps.
Princesita starts to say something, and Jupiter reaches over to cover Princesita’s mouth.
“Yes.” Bates gulps.
Officer Jeffery reaches towards Bates. “Turn around and place your hands behind your back.”
Bates stands silently, his face expressionless.
“I am placing you under arrest in connection with the murders of Javad Tahmasb, Hamidreza Entezami, Mohamad Askari, Mostafa Shahi, Ali Reza Arjmand, Arman Nousari, Elahe Nousari, Setareh Tarokh, and Mohammed Tarokh."
Magenta falls to the ground in her bra and panty set, as everyone looks in stunned silence.
Bates slowly raises their hands as the police officers move closer, handcuffing them.
Everyone looks in disbelief. The judges look shocked and horrified.
“You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law.”
Bates looks at Apocalyptica, still expressionless, and speaks softly. “Christian…I’m sorry.”
“You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be provided for you. Do you understand these rights?”
Bates gives a nearly imperceptible nod.
Apocalyptica’s eyes well with tears. “Batesy?”
~
“Traumatic.” Apocalyptica looks at Bates, who exhales.
“To explain this….” Yasmin looks over. “Rachelle Mirage!”
Rachelle walks in with a smile.
“You two have worked hard together- tell us, what happened?!”
“I am, as we’d all know, originally from Iran. And- I knew it was a risk.” Bates exhales. “And they found out, and tried to have me extradited back from the US, for an alleged murder.”
“You killed someone?” Magenta gasps.
“A set up. Some of my former schoolmates had reported to the government that I had been cast here. So they falsified police records to make it look like I had done something which… was just because I, a Queer person, was representing the country in a way that didn’t match their… image.” Bates nods.
“Then comes… me.” Rachelle grins. “I could not let this happen.”
“Thank you, Rachelle.” Bates smiles.
“I felt something was off. And, I served as a character witness in the International Criminal Court, where… Eventually, after little evidence, we were able to not only have this gorgeous artist freed- but, I pulled some strings…”
“And I am now living in Denver.” Bates responds, holding Apocalyptica’s hand.
“What a shocking story.” Yasmin smiles. “And Apocalyptica, I must ask- are you two…?”
“We live literally across the street from each other.” Apocalyptica smiles.
The two grin.
“Now next up! She was one of our famous RETURNEES- Ms Cleo Mertoris, who won her first challenge- then proceeded to go home. Cleo, how did you feel about your journey?”
“I think… I should’ve gone much further than I did, to be honest.” Cleo shrugs.
“Girl...” Severa stares at Cleo for a few seconds. “You deserve exactly what you got- because you weren’t talented enough to survive a lipsync.”
“Not Miss ‘Double Sashay’ talking.” Cleo gasps. “At least I could pay for my tits myself, and not resort to sugar daddies huh Sevvie… Fucking bitch!” In a flash, Cleo, angrily standing, throws her drink onto Severa, who yelps.
In a flash, Yasmin tries to pull Cleo away from Severa, but Cleo does her best to claw at Severa.
“The fuck?” Jupiter yells.
“Don’t fucking call me Sevvie ever again!” Severa yells, scrubbing at her ruined dress and crying while subtly drinking the cocktail on her face.
“I’ll call you whatever I fucking want! Coming for my fucking gig!” Cleo shrieks.
“Let’s stop this-” Yasmin raises her hand.
Cleo spits at Severa. “Fuck you, fucking whore. You only transitioned to copy me! I MADE YOU! I-”
“WE’RE GOING TO ANOTHER BREAK!” Yasmin yells.
~
Severa tries to shake cocktail out of her wet wig.
Lupe covers her mouth with one hand. Kaia is laughing.
Nymphe suddenly stands and aggressively wrings out Severa’s wig, as Severa winces.
“Well!” Yasmin says sharply. “Are you okay, Severa?”
“I’m fine.” Severa huffs, bent over as Nymphe wrings her wig out. “I started my transition because, since the season aired, I came to terms with a lot about myself. Including how some of my behavior on the season was…rash. I’ve definitely been hiding from this moment. And Cleo has nothing to do with it.”
Lupe apologetically speaks up. “Pienso que, Severa, that Cleo might just be jealous of you.”
“You know it, mami.” Severa sighs. “I also really want to express some sincere apologies to you.”
Lupe looks startled.
“I think that with our time on the show, I was often jealous of you. Unlike me, or Cleo, or Kaia, you have been confidently living in your womanhood for a long time. I’ve followed you for a long time…and I fucked up.” Severa nods. “I am sorry.”
“I accept your apology, darling.” Lupe smiles. “It’s all I ever needed.”
“Now, these two were our OTHER, non finalist returnees, and both have… wild journeys.” Yasmin smiles.
“Non finalist.” Princesita frowns.
“You did good, Mami.” Lupe smiles. “I know it was hard…”
“I lip synced- a lot.” Princesita nods. “And it was hard.” Princesita begins to tear up. “Because, I believed I could do better, you know?”
Magenta holds Princesita’s hand.
“But- you must keep going. You can never push yourself too far, and maybe this wasn’t my journey. I think… I think I've accepted that now.” Princesita sighs.
“Regardless of how it ends, know that you should be proud of yourself, girl.” Kaia shrugs. “Like, we can’t all win.”
“Like me.” Starzanne jokes.
Nobody laughs.
“Well, turning to you, Starzanne, you had a controversial moment this season, in your makeover moment….” Starzanne turns. “How did it feel, watching it back?”
“I feel bad.” Starzanne closes her eyes. “And… I’m learning, I’m working on what I know, how to do it better, how to…” Starzanne sighs. “Do more than what I did, and truly, I feel shame.”
“I kinda think it’s bullshit.” Severa looks at Starzanne. “Because I think you knew better.”
Ambrose and Briar nod in agreement.
“HOWEVER…” Severa shrugs. “Good for you.”
Starzanne pouts, before nodding. “I aim to really deliver, I p-promise.”
The others look uncertain.
Bates sighs. “As the Middle Eastern refugee here, I can’t speak for Mohammed, who it’s obvious you really hurt and mistreated…and I hope he never has to see or work with you again. Because I hope you do learn, Starzanne. But also know the work is on you, not people of color.”
Severa gulps.
“Moving onto a power couple, or power ex-couple, this season. Briar and Ambrose…”
Jupiter woofs.
“How are we going since the season?” Yasmin asks.
“We’ve reconciled.” Ambrose looks at Briar with a knowing glance.
“I think both of us felt intense pressure this season.” Briar nods. “We both wanted to exist separate, but were so intrinsically tied to each other…”
“Ultimately I did think it led to our failure.” Ambrose sighs. “And- that’s fair, because it was a lesson to learn.”
“The lesson, being?”
“We are powerful- together.” Ambrose smiles, holding hands. “But, we believe it’s important to make space.”
“So, where does that mean for you now?” Yasmin asks. “The both of you.”
The two look at each other.
“We’re creating space, yet, collaborating.” Ambrose nods. “And-”
“They’re fucking again, BUT not doing duo gigs. Only attending gigs together.” Magenta chuckles.
Everyone gasps.
“Well… true.” Briar shrugs.
“Now, finally- the shocking moment… right before the semi final.” Yasmin nods. “Let’s look.”
~
I’ve made my decision.
Jupiter Sterling, Shantay you stay.
“Thank you.” Jupiter exhales. “Thank you.”
Severa closes her eyes, whispering to herself. “Severa, shantay…”
Severa and Magenta Leigh Simmons…
The others look on.
Thank you for being here, and doing great work this season. Now, I must say… sashay away.
“Damn!” Magenta yells, as Chronologica chuckles.
Everyone in the back of the stage look flabbergasted.
“No, thank you for this.” Magenta bows.
Severa looks at the judges for a split second, before walking off without a word.
“...Damn!” Magenta says again, as the others laugh. “I’m strutting off with GRACE.”
Magenta raises her hands in the air, as she walks off with a cheer.
~
“First, you- Severa, how are you feeling with time?” Yasmin asks.
“I feel as if that’s a different girl. Kinda. She’s thinking she’s giving nothing, not caring- but she cares too much, she’s lost that war. I think of myself as effortlessly fierce- but I did get stressed. I wish I… walked off and stomped the stage.” Severa sighs. “Instead of that.”
“And that’s okay, because we all- get there, sometimes.” Princesita says. “It’s about what you do next.”
“I’m going to win, girl.” Severa jokes. “They gotta make another All Stars so this diva can take the title.”
Everyone chuckles.
“Magenta, how did you feel, about being the other half?”
“I am happy, because if I’m being damn honest, I didn’t expect to make it this far!” Magenta laughs. “And I was me the whole damn time.”
“I love you for being you.” Jupiter adds. “You’re real, Ms Simmons. We honor that.”
“And not everyone can say that.” Nymphe smirks.
Apocalyptica grips Bates' hands.
“Now, it’s time for us to celebrate… some titles.” Yasmin smiles. “First, our GOLD BOOT title of the Season- ugliest outfit. Winner of a $5000 grand prize….”
…
Starzanne Stripes and September Remembers arrive in what else, but red, white, and blue. September looks patchy- his face is painted red, white and blue, in an attempt to cover his beard. Starzanne and September are both wearing fringe dresses that look straight out of a car wash, and it’s the epitome of… awkward.
“Starzanne!”
Starzanne chuckles, grabbing the trophy.
“Anything to say, Starzanne?”
“I am now wearing a lot LESS red, white and blue.” Starzanne nods.
The others awkwardly chuckle.
“Now, our title of SHADE- The Shadiest C.U.N.T this season.” Yasmin smiles. “Can I have a drumroll?”
“Cleo?” Severa looks over at the empty seat laughing.
“SEVERA!” Yasmin cheers. “Condragulations, you’ve won $10,000!”
Severa chuckles, grabbing the sash. “Thank you,I’d like to thank Cleo, Alcohol, and the rest of you for being too boring to get confessionals!”
Lupe laughs dramatically.
“I’d say I’m surprised, but I’m not!”
Everyone laughs.
….
“Finally, MY successor.” Yasmin smiles. “This year, the Congenial title will win $20,000, sponsored by Virtue Beauty.”
Everyone looks excitedly.
“The Winner is… MAGENTA LEIGH SIMMONS!” Yasmin cheers, as everyone starts clapping.
“Yes, yes!” Magenta cheers, as Yasmin puts the sash on her.
“Do you have anything to say, my Queen?”
“I-” Magenta smiles. “Damn.”
Everyone cheers.
“She’s finally out of things to say everybody!” Kaia laughs.
“Ugh…” Apocalyptica whimpers, wiping her eyes, as the others look over.
“Popsicle, are you okay?” Lupe asks.
“I’m- I’m fine.” Apocalyptica sighs. “I just- am really happy for Magenta.”
Magenta smiles.
“Bullshit.” Nymphe looks over.
The room is quiet.
“You expected this win, and again, you’re inauthentic, you’re lying, and you’re not owning up to when you want something.” Nymphe responds.
“I-” Apocalyptica tears up, holding onto Bates. “I-”
“I do have a question to ask, actually, as the crowned Ms SHADE.” Severa smirks. “Ms, Popsicle- we noticed your lack of presence at the crowning. You weren’t at any of the cast parties we held to celebrate or any of the events we planned, so what’s really up?”
Nymphe looks over.
“What happened?”
“I didn’t feel up to it. I was a bit sad, and I really did want to be there- but I-I felt physically ill, and…”
“Bullshit, again.” Severa rolls her eyes.
“Alright, you guys can have your opinions on everyone’s actions, but we don’t need to gang up on her.” Bates says, raising their voice a little..
“I don’t know what any of you mean…” Apocalyptica sighs. “I just-”
“You wanted to win, so you’re bitter. You kept denying it- but clearly, you positioned yourself in a way to do well. And you lost. So, why not own up to it?” Nymphe asks.
“Ugh, Can you go fuck yourself?” Apocalyptica snaps.
“Woah.” Magenta says.
Everyone looks spooked.
“Popsicle… You don’t have to acknowledge them…” Bates whispers.
“Of course I wanted to win.” Apocalyptica exclaims loudly. “I wanted to prove alt drag, to prove myself, and I don’t think that trying to be nice while doing so is a sin. ” Apocalyptica says. “LIKE-”
“Because you weren’t being real.” Severa looks at Apocalyptica. “Not the sweet girl who always happens to copy others.”
“I- You can think whatever you want. I…Actually I’m not going to continue to engage with this narrative.” Apocalyptica stutters as she turns to hold onto Bates.
“If you owned being unoriginal, maybe you’d have won.” Nymphe shrugs.
“Okay hold up- I’m mad she didn’t show up to our get togethers either but unoriginal?” Kaia inserts herself into the conversation. “We all get inspired and learn and take notes from others, like that’s the point of drag families, Delilah taught me so much, does that make me unoriginal? Have none of us ever felt inspired after seeing a good drag show or look?”
“I learned a lot from everyone in my short time here, my drag has changed a lot from all of you.” Madame Maine smiles.
“Girl, there’s a difference between being inspired and trying to steal my signature move the week after I leave.” Severa turns back at Kaia and Madame Maine.
“And were you the first to ever do that move? You came up with it with absolutely no influence from anyone else.” Apocalyptica bites.
“I don’t remember getting any credit or even a shoutout.” Severa stares at Popsicle.
“Do you give credits to who helped teach you how to dip every time you do it?” Apocalyptica retorts. “Whatever, i'm just so over this conversation.”
“Cool.” Nymphe bluntly states.
Apocalyptica rolls her eyes. “Cool.”
A couple of seconds pass of silence.
“Well, thank you all for a lovely season.” Yasmin smiles breaking the tension. “Now, before we go… Here's a sneak peak of SEASON 6 of Chronlogica’s DRAG RACE, coming soon!”
~
This has been… magic.
“It sure has.” Nymphe nods, sipping her pink tea. “But the magic… lives on and continues, as does the journey of the forest. It is… eternal.”
It's magic, you know…
Thirteen figures flash, as someone grabs a potion labeled ‘IMMUNITY’.

2024.05.04 05:09 Noddidakid Favourite non-album Singles, B-Sides or Songs included only on Compilations, OST's, Leaks
Tell me about your favourite Rap Songs not included on the artist's own album. These could be non-album Singles, Leaks, B-Sides or Songs released on Compilations and Movie Soundtracks from any era. - Mobb Deep feat. Rakim & Big Noyd - Hoodlum (Hoodlum OST)
- Mobb Deep - Back At You (Single from Sunset Park OST)

2024.05.03 15:29 caleb777_ problems with “CHH” a rant.
this might be a long post. i guess i’ll start off by jus sayin it. i think chh or underground chh really corny asf 😪 and this coming from an artist who never really been apart of it and never wanted to be(more so an affiliate to peers inside of) and ain’t grow up on it..but i’ve had eyes on the scene for a good min now. in complete transparency the scene doesn’t affect me, and this could seem like an attack. so if i come off as a hater to you, i get it.
the biggest issue in my opinion is the label itself, and all the politics that come with it. and i’m sure i ain’t the only soul who has these issues either. “christian” hiphop is honestly a box, and i dont believe new artists in the niche really get it. the general claim is they desire to “reach the lost” but end up only creating music for eachother in the same box.
the fear of the world, or at least being percieved as “worldly” or “secular” has a lot of creatives stuck, and its super hilarious and pathetically hypocritical. tbh it pisses me off because without Uzi, Travis, Carti and Yeat y’all would have absolutely no trends to suck off or foundation for your sound at all, yet chh swear that they themselves satan incarnate. (when scripture repeatedly commands us to find common ground with folk who share different beliefs.) go listen to Bones, Black Kray, go listen to Biggie and Pac. go listen to bktherula and Kenny Mason. go listen to metal and post hardcore and indie cause i can tell a lot of artists and fans in the scene, do not. go get some musical foundation first instead of demonize! AND Lupe Fiasco muslim, but we don’t see him constructing an entire subgenre on the basis of his muslim faith, yet he’s accepted in the hiphop space? he don’t call himself a muslim rapper? Kanye made “Jesus Walks” and it was a smash, but he NEVER said he was a “christian” rapper? like tbh lets keep it g, CHH doesn’t want change. y’all don’t want to impact the world fr because the SECOND someone does, they get destroyed for attempting to do so. Lecrae to this day still has to defend himself about what he’s about. Aha Gazelle left reach years ago and got crucified for deciding to smoke a lil weed, and be himself. more recently even Montell Fish (i wouldn’t call him chh, follow me) got massacred for choosing to move away from his bedroom gospel stuff and make the music he desires to make. why? just because he doesn’t have a picket sign that says “this is christian music” performative activism,he’s now backslid and damned to hell?? just cause he wanna sing about heartbreak? his youtube is LITTERED with awful comments about his walk with Christ, from the same folk who cheered him on 2 years ago. like wtf this is bullshit honestly. the entitlement, legalism, contradictions and double standards in the space is beyond horrid, and i don’t blame folk at all for wanting nothing to do with the scene. also lets keep it g the “secular” underground will always be ahead and cutting edge because of they production, aesthetic, and courage to innovate.
that’s another thing.. in regards to “darker” or maybe even moody or melancholy aesthetics, CHH has little to no artists who experiement at all. MAYBE i can consider Mogli the Iceberg?? and no NF doesn’t count lmao like almost every artist is just their name, that’s it. no image, and everything about them is too cool. where the artists who inspired by Bones, Spaceghostpurrp, and Suicide Boys? where’s the production like Clams Casino, xxxtentacion? nobody in CHH listens to them, because they scared. where’s the sonic diversity? where’s the lyrical content about struggles with suicide, or ideas about the afterlife? if you pissed off with the government? no pain, no uncertainty? wheres the world building AROUND your music? everybody too damn busy being a celebrity (even tho nobody outside of chh even knows em) or killing demons. like we get it mane, ya bible a blicky. give it a rest?? we get it, ya love Jesus and he saved you. we get it, you think you a “christian city girl” say something else!
i’m just sick of the mediocrity disguised as humility. i don’t care if you say Jesus in your song 10,000 times, your mix is garbage. your song wack asf. stop with the cringggeyyy diet coke “christian” remixes to jersey club songs. they suck. be better, be original because we serve an almighty God. the best phrase i can use to describe 95% of CHH music is “safe” and that’s why in my opinion the scene will never transcend beyond itself, besides the other points i’ve made. if the main concern is appearing “christian” besides making GOOD music, it’s gon always fall flat. i think the scene would serve its purpose best without the “chh” label behind it.
imma keep it g, all of these issues really bleed into a bigger discussion concerning the seculasacred divide, the CCM space, and the almost irreversable damage western church culture has done to america as a country. but that’s for another day.
btw if ya read this and said “well then YOU go make music since all you wanna do is piss and moan” the link gon be in the comments below. i hope someone feels the same way i do. why can’t we just make music? why do we HAVE to label everything? end of rant.
