God damn this was a hard quest. I tried it on lower levels, and got my ass handed to me very quickly. So I tried it five more times as I levelled up. Seventh try did it. And even then both Felix and Gro died a couple of times. Therefore it's essential that you'll carry a wizard that can drop heals, and possibly armoucontact reflection.
I setup two sniper lines. Two units on hill at left flank and the rest forming a firing line on the right. The amethyst land ship went it to middle and with wizards hovering on top. The demigriffon cav in the same place, after the landships, ready to rush to provide middle for the land ship doing the flanks for the characters.
Slaanesh will bum rush straight from the beginning. So you'll have to be quick with your decisions.
The problem for me was keeping the characters alive. How did you solve this quest?

2024.05.21 12:29 anthc004 Help with Sorcerer Bard Multiclass

I hope this is the right place to put this - my character will be soon levelling to level 9, and with 6 levels in sorcerer and 2 already in bard I need to choose a bard subclass.
We have been playing in the Odyssey of the Dragonlords setting - Arcanum World's campaign - for about 3 and a half years now. For those unfamiliar, it is an Ancient Greek-themed world that sees you become a dragon rider and fight some evil gods - classic DnD stuff.
The party consists of a chronomancy wizard (broken as hell), a gorgon oath of ancients paladin, and my character: a shadow sorcerer changeling with a few levels in bard. Our DM has been incredible at facilitating where we want our characters to go, and I have managed to make my sorcerebard a very effective gish. My character has a solid AC because of some mithril armour (boosted by Haste and shield), an amulet of health, and a dancing sword (bonus action attack). We replaced the hound of ill omen level 6 sorcerer feature with the hexblades charisma attack/ damage feature so my melee skills are pretty good. This combined with the amulet of health and AC means I can fight effectively in the centre of battle and hold my own with the paladin: throwing out fireballs and bonus action slicing people with th dancing sword.
If I was power gaming I would have levelled into paladin, got some smites and called it a day. However, my character is in love with the goddess of music and so bard made a lot of thematic sense, and also gave me access to the very powerful 'boreal harp' which has access to control weather, conjure animals, levitate etc.
With the upcoming level up, I am going to need to choose a bard subclass, and I am completely stumped. The option I have been thinking about for a while is College of Swords (my DM has agreed to tweak this so the flourishes can be used a number of times equal to my proficiency bonus rather than only use bardic inspiration). This change would make it way more viable, but I am worried about it becoming less useful down the line. Another option we discussed is College of Creation, which may be more useful for allies but cut down on how much damage I can do. College of Valor seems really boring and kind of useless. College of Eloquence would be cool but would end up not really fitting into the party aesthetic - it would end up with a bit too much main-character energy.
I am open to homebrew if it makes sense; we are playing to have fun, so as long as it seems engaging and interesting, we tend to run with it. The shadow magic of my character has flavoured all aspects of their magic: fireballs are black flame, misty step has me stepping into the shadows, inflict wounds is some form of shadowy poison, etc. If I do go with swords, how could I flavour it to feel in line with the character's darker magic as well as the Greek setting?
The intention is to resume levelling sorcerer after this level so I really only need to worry about level 3 bard characteristics. Any advice would be amazing.

2024.05.21 12:00 magictcgmods Daily Questions Thread - Ask All Your Magic Related Questions Here!

This is a place for asking simple questions that might not deserve their own thread. For example, if you have a question about a rules interaction, want sleeve and accessory recommendations, or suggestions for your new deck, then this is the place for you.
We encourage that you post any questions that you may have concerning Magic the Gathering here rather than make a separate thread for each question, though for now we won't require that you do so.
Rules Questions
Rules questions and interactions are allowed to be posted here, but if you need an answer quickly it may be best to use a dedicated resource like the 24/7 Magic the Gathering Rules Chat.
Deckbuilding Questions
If you're trying to get help with a deck, it is recommended that you post your decklist to a deckbuilding website so that it is easier to view. Some popular sites are Aetherhub, Archidekt, Deckbox, Deckstats, Moxfield, MtgGoldfish, and TappedOut.
Additionally, please include some description of what you are trying to accomplish. Don't just give us a decklist with no explanation, and don't ask extremely vague questions such as "what cards should I add to my deck to make it better?", because it's hard to give good advice in those cases. Let us know details, the more the better. Are you building with a particular strategy or theme in mind? Are there any non-obvious combo lines or synergies that people should be aware of? Are you struggling with a particular matchup, or are you finding yourself missing consistency in an important area, and need some help specifically for it? Let us know.
Commonly Asked Questions
I opened a card from a different set in my booster pack, is this unusual?
Don't worry, this is completely normal. If you opened a set booster, you have a small chance of obtaining a bonus card from a previous set. This is an extra card that does not replace any of the other cards in your pack, and is from a curated set of past hits that Wizards of the Coast has selected, which they call "The List".
You can view the contents of The List on Wizards of the Coast's official website. For example, the contents of The List for Streets of New Capenna boosters can be found here.
My foil card has a shooting start symbol over the bottom left. I can't find anything about it online.
All old-bordered foils have the shooting star symbol. Most sites that display card images just overlay a generic foil graphic over all foil cards, which doesn't include the shooting star. Your card is normal.

2024.05.21 10:22 Fit-Midnight1405 Town Hall 14 War Base Layouts COC

  1. Centralize the Town Hall: Protect your Town Hall with your most powerful defenses. Centralizing it makes it harder for attackers to reach and ensures they need to go through multiple defenses to get to it.
  2. Spread out Air Defenses: Place Air Defenses in such a way that they cover the entire base and overlap each other's range. This helps in defending against air attacks, especially from powerful troops like Dragons and Lava Hounds.
  3. Create compartments: Divide your base into compartments using walls. This slows down the enemy's troops and prevents them from easily navigating through your base.
  4. Protect key defenses: Place your Inferno Towers, Eagle Artillery, and other high-damage defenses such as X-Bows and Wizard Towers in positions where they can cover multiple compartments and defend against various types of attacks.
  5. Anti-Queen Walk/Cleaner: Design your base to prevent Queen Walks or make them less effective. Place defenses such as Archer Queen, Hidden Teslas, and traps in areas where Queen Walks are likely to start.
  6. Anti-3 Star Layout: Aim to create a base that is difficult to 3-star. This involves spreading out your defenses effectively to make it challenging for attackers to get to the core and take down all your key structures.
  7. Trap Placement: Strategically place traps such as bombs, air mines, and seeking air mines to surprise and weaken attacking troops.
  8. Test and Adapt: After creating your base layout, test it against different attack strategies in friendly challenges or by participating in wars. Analyze how well it defends against different attacks and make adjustments accordingly.

2024.05.21 09:32 Both-Face4395 Mock Draft Lottery V1- With Explanations.

Nba mock draft 1. Hawks-Alex Sarr C
Alex Sarr is the number one prospect and with a offense that runs through Trae Young, he plugs in as a immediate rim running big with potential on both sides of the floor.
  1. Wizards-Stephon Castle PG/SG
The Wizards go all in on upside and bet that there is more to Castle than he showed at Uconn. I believe he has the tool and the work ethic to put it all together and the Wizards get someone to grow along Bilal Coulibaly
  1. Rockets-Reed Sheppard PG/SG
The rockets are in a hard position because they don’t need a for sure starter. They select the player who has a play style that benefits all those around him and doesn’t need the ball to succeed. Sheppard lands in a spot where he can continue to be a impactful player and contribute to winning.
  1. Spurs-Zaccharie Risacher SF
The spurs biggest Issues are 3 point shooting and defense. they get a lengthy 3&D forward than can immediately plug in as a floor spacer for their new found star in Wemby. He has potential to be more than just a 3&D forward and has a archetype necessary for winning teams.
  1. Pistons-Matas Buzelis SF/PF
The pistons get unlucky with the top 2 shooters going in back to back picks before them. They select the next best thing in Matas in hopes that he can become a all around wing that can space the floor for the team and play great team defense.
  1. Hornets-Jared McCain PG/SG
The Hornets go against the consensus and try to select their backcourt partner for Lamelo Ball. He can play both offball and on ball in the absence Lamelo. He brings very valuable shooting and is willing to do all the small things to make a team win to a team being built around Lamelo and Brandon Miller.
  1. Blazers-Ron Holland SF/PF
The blazers are still trying to find their identity as they hope that Scoot Henderson develops into a star for them. They take a stab at a a player filled with potential at a position of need. Ron Holland offers immediate defense to the front court and has two way potential that the Blazers will try to tap into to build a possible playoff core.
  1. Spurs-Rob Dillingham PG
Rob Dillingham lands to the spurs as they look for a pg that can help alleviate shot creating and ball handling issues. Rob is by far the best ball handler in the class and the spurs hope to maximize that while hiding his weaknesses with a potential dpoy superstar.
  1. Grizzlies-Donovan Clingan C
The grizzlies strike gold as the second best center falls into their lap. After the loss of Steven Adams really hurt them last season, they bounce back with a great defensive center that can hold down the paint while Ja, Bane and JJJ take over the offense.
  1. Jazz-Nikola Topic PG
The jazz are overjoyed a playmaker fall into their laps. They are filled with plenty of scoring guards and finally get their hands on a playmaker that can possibly boost the performance of the rest of the team.
  1. Bulls-Kel’el Ware C
The Bulls are in no man land where they seem to want to compete but have not shown they can go all the way. They take a stab at potential right here as they get a bigman to try to replace Vucevic that better complements the team. If Lonzo can come back, Ware becomes an immediate lob threat every game. Ideally they trade up for Clingan.
  1. Thunder-Tidjane Salaun SF
The Thunder were the 1st seed and have plenty of depth across the board. They take a gamble on potential with Salaun as he doesn’t need to step in right away, and can observe and improve his game with no pressure.
  1. Kings-Dalton Knecht SF
Harrison barnes is getting older and the Kings look like they want to win. They draft one of the most ready players at a position of need that fits great into their fast pace offense and can take a scoring load off Fox and Sabonis. Shooters always have a place on winning teams.
  1. Blazers-Cody Williams
The Blazers seem to have their back court of the future already and continue to add to the front court. They get a very lengthy wing with all the tools to be a great player. They invest in their front court so that they can have length and complimentary skills that can benefit their guards while fitting the timeline of Scoot and Sharpe.

2024.05.21 09:29 Atlas-Fallen Dungeon Master bet me a cookie if I couldn't party wipe the group as a player without Griefing, Pk'ing, Murder Hobo'ing, without being a PoS

so me and a DM made a bet half a year ago, if I could sabotage his campaign without PK'ing, Griefing, Being a Jerk, Murder Hobo'ing, getting other players killed via false evidence etc. I would win a Cookie. I originally said that If I wanted a party to die there's nothing the DM can do to stop me if i put my mind to it. so here is how it went
I proved a point to my DM friend by slowly sabotaging a group i was in over the span of 5 months, I didn't ruin the fun for the other players nor the DM literally no one knew that I was slowly building up the greatest failure the DM has ever seen.
From making sure to be slightly impatient and bringing up interesting places to go that were far away from markets to side track the party so they forget to buy ropes, rations, etc. To outright slowly convincing the party its a smarter idea not to leave traces of people behind since we might have assassins tracking us, which we did have a problem with at one point but I ended it entirely with connections in the underground and the bounty hunter posts.
basically I had the entire party slowly make a habit of relying on effectively luck and my character for getting out of caves and such without leaving escape ropes leading out.
This lead to the entire party getting trapped in a dragons lair after I convinced the bard that its a bad idea to leave openings for things to come in during boss fights, to which he relayed effectively the same ideas to the barbarian and wizard and I chipped in to further side with that idea closing off yet another way out.
When we killed the dragon we all were happy until we had no rope to escape, no way to get out since 3 months prior I convinced the wizard not to get mold earth and if our druid was still alive he also didn't have it but he did have good berry which Is why I made sure the dragons agro was on me when I was in front of the druid so when it breathed it would hit the druid, this caused the druids death since they refused to take shelter and heal up.

2024.05.21 08:19 Sin-God A New Chain; Snapshots

The familiar sounds of the office fill the ears of the "Adventurer" as he steps into his home away from home. To him "Familiar sounds" means the voices of about three-quarters of the hundreds of employees who work in this building, thanks to the progressive, passive, perpetual boosts to his senses that he has simply always been accruing. He still can't quite hear everything in the office, indeed as powerful as his senses are he can only actively sense enough space around him to be firmly aware of events occurring about half of the building's length and width away from him at a time, but those are still incredibly powerful senses.
Lucas steps past several cubicles and heads to his own with a calm smile on his face. He actually enjoys his job, not because he finds the work fulfilling but because it presents him with a chance to level up his skills and work towards becoming altogether stronger in a hilariously safe environment. The figure sits in his cubicle and logs into his work computer with a bright grin on his face. As he grabs the last pieces of paper in the backlog that was a big problem when he began to work for this company he feels a pang of pride.
The workday is pleasant enough. He successfully finishes the last pile of paperwork that was considered part of the backlog and this effort is celebrated by his direct supervisor and a few of the friends he's made in his department, a group composed of several men and only a few pair of women, who have been working here for years but lacked the abilities he possesses that allow him to grind out progress at a rapid rate and allow him to improve the work he does every single day without fail. The news quickly spreads throughout the office, and various people, including other departmental supervisors and managers, come to him and congratulate him.
When the day ends Lucas is one of the first people out the door. This is commonly expected Lucas-like behavior at this point so no one bats an eye at it. The figure works and then leaves, and he seems to have an incredibly strict policy about work-life balance to the point that no one from the office has seen his apartment or even seen him outside of the office aside from on social media.
The lad walks towards a nearby mall even as he checks his phone. When the decently cautious man is sure he's not being watched he uses his inventory to swap outfits, changing into something much more casual than his work uniform so he can do his equivalent of trolling. His clothes go from being the professional outfit someone might expect to see an accountant in, to the much more casual clothes of someone who works at a Game Station the local equivalent of a Game Stop.
The minute the figure reaches the mall he relaxes and steps into it with a smile on his face as he is suddenly and powerfully aware of events going on all around him now that the sounds he's been passively hearing for the last few minutes are not muffled by layers of solid American construction. The mall is a favorite haunt of his, a place where there are enough people that even if something goes awry he can pretty easily escape in the chaos and commotion that any sort of hostile actions would necessarily cause. Still, to the figure's credit he has not been caught yet.
The thief begins his training by carefully studying the department store he's in. He can be a bit bolder now than he could weeks ago, as in the time since he began to hone this skill he's enhanced it in such a way that he can teleport objects directly into his inventory, which is a tremendous improvement even if he can't take anything bigger or heavier than a cleaver. He eventually spots a teenager with a wallet that is just visible out of the corner of his pockets. Lucas diligently uses "Observe" on him and the powerful skill is strong enough now that Lucas can use it to determine someone's affiliations. When the young adult spots that the teen belongs to a gang he decides it's worth taking his potentially ill-gotten gains.
The clever trickster points a single finger in the direction of the teen's pocket and silently casts the handy spell. A thin line of energy lances out of his extended digit and sails through the air toward the teenager. When the teen begins to move Lucas hisses in annoyance and expends a bit more magical energy to take advantage of the first skill he's gained as a result of an attribute hitting 50: arcane manipulation.
Days ago the young adventurer's passion for magic and healing resulted in two classes leveling up on the same day: mage and white mage. This resulted in his intelligence going from 49 to 52, and as a result of that he gained the ability to manipulate magical energy, so long as he can detect the magic in question and is willing to spend some magic of his own. In this world, where the figure is reasonably certain that no other magical beings exist, this means that to hone this skill the wizard needs to manipulate his own magic. Still, that hasn't stopped the young professional from tirelessly doing just that.
With a significant amount of focus the mage is able to manipulate the thin beam and twists and turns it so that it circles around the teen before snaking into his pocket and striking the young gangster's wallet. When Lucas feels the wallet enter his inventory he chuckles and makes his way out of the department store. The rest of this particular bout of training is filled with similar feats of arcane finesse and hilariously minor acts that will steal from those willing to enact violence on others in exchange for money. Lucas's clever usage of his skills coupled with his willingness to act in stunningly petty and annoying ways make him great at harassing those he designates his foes. Lucas, lacking an ability to kill those he fights thanks to a drawback affecting him, has thus far refused to actually engage those he has marked as his foes in direct battle but his desire to annoy them has led to willingly target people associated with criminal groups with some of his spatial magic.
In hours the figure is back home and he is toying with the newest toy he's received from his gacha system. A guitar sits on his lap and he fiddles with the instrument, even he listens to a video about how to tune the thing. Lucas is experimenting with something, and behind the tablet he gained some time ago is a book that contains information on tuning guitars. The tablet is in use, recording what the man is up to. An app is in use and it records the sounds the guitar chords make. The self-taught musician relies on some of his new skills for this, as he has only recently gained the "Guitar" and "Guitar Maintenance" skills, and he got them at different times so they are different levels. Nonetheless, the figure patiently records himself, occasionally stopping the recording and examining it. He is diligently using his long-term planning skills and sticking to his broad plan. At the same time the figure patiently uses magic and steadily hones the "Mage" class, using his magic skills to farm multiple sources of experience while adhering to the schedule he has informally given himself.
Eventually the next day rolls around and the figure, predictably, gets out of his apartment and goes to work. If you had explained the concept of "Jumping" to Lucas a year ago and asked him if he thought so much of it would be just working a 9-5 job he'd not have believed you and yet in the context of his experience with the unusual profession a stunning amount of time has just been him being a regular employee of a perfectly mundane business.
Time continues to pass for the would-be adventurer at a steady pace. In this mundane world a figure with legitimate supernatural abilities is a uniquely powerful presence, and this is especially true of one that is determined to keep his head down and nose clean. Lucas's determination to live a regular, relatively risk-free life does not stop him from living, but it does stop him from suffering from some sort of "Middle School Second Year Syndrome" as a result of the fact that he has gained trainable superpowers. Instead of going mad with power or gaining an unhealthy mentality Lucas has just enough knowledge of how jumping works to know that while he might be a big fish in this world he is not a big fish in other worlds like Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, or even something as aggressively hostile and oppressive as the general setting of Minecraft is.
If an objective, impartial onlooker viewing Lucas's life is given the chance to describe the sort of "Television Show" that they are watching, they'd say it could easily be considered slice-of-life. For the first few months of his time here the most exciting times are the rare moments he adds something new to his slowly expanding list of activities and the even more slowly growing list of things he can do, such as when he begins to walk the streets of the city he lives in at night and cast healing, positive, restorative magic on the sleeping homeless people he encounters. This activity ultimately earns him the peculiar title of "Unsung Saint", a title which enhances the effectiveness of his restorative or otherwise beneficial magic on those not aware of the fact that he is using magic on them.
Days of work, training, and controlled, planned forays into new pastimes, turn into weeks of steady and anticipated progress. Weeks of steady and anticipated progress turn into months of upward mobility and the healthy establishments of new baseline feats. That said, eventually progress slows and becomes more difficult for the jumper in a world as relatively safe, for supernatural beings, as this one. It doesn't take terribly long for Lucas to go from a somewhat predictable, fairly focused figure who is very specialized in a number of areas, to a somewhat more well-rounded figure with a steadily increasing repository of skills and abilities, thanks to a subtle shift in growth strategies.
Just a few days short of eleven months into his stay in this jump, the jumper is facing a new foe but is participating in an activity he's come to enjoy; sparring.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
I dodge a well-aimed right-handed punch intended for my face, though thanks to my agility I easily had enough time to dodge it, It took a long time, from my viewpoint, for it to get close to me so long enough that I only let it get this close on purpose. I'm holding back in terms of my speed and strength but my opponent, a friend I made at the gym a few weeks ago, doesn't need to know that. I have way too many supernatural advantages for it to be a fair fight if I don't hold back.
I give my opponent enough time to register that I've dodged the blow before I begin to telegraph, purposefully, my next attack. I purposefully overextend my left arm and launch a powerful, but slow, strike. The man grits his teeth and moves to intercept my strike. He is fast enough to position his arm in front of it but that is still a mistake. I guide my blow into his arm and watch as he lets out a sincere, pained, grunt. Even with me holding back I still allow DPS to work its magic, and that perk coupled with both my trained and perk-enhanced strength is enough for me to deal him a decently powerful blow.
I retract my fist with a sly smile and note that the bars that cover my field of view are all going up at different rates. The bar for "Brawler", a class that's the result of "Fighter" giving me access to a new class when it hit level 10, my currently equipped class, is going up at a healthy clip as I spar with this man, as is the bar for "Precision Strikes" and "Acting", some of my skills. Most of the things going up at a decent clip are affected by "Jack of All Trades" a perk thatreduces the time and effort it takes for me to train up new skills to around the level of my average. Most of my other bars are only slightly going up, but this is acceptable. This sort of training is vital, long term, for my very survival, and thanks to my perks is pretty easy for me to do.
Behind me I hear a familiar voice cheering; Hannah's. The lovely redhead has begun to accompany me to the gym, but this is a somewhat recent development. Before a few weeks ago we only occasionally saw each other on Saturdays at the cafe she worked at, though we have been texting buddies ever since we met. Marcus, my sparring partner, grins savagely at me as he listens to my friend and gym buddy's cheers.
"I can't let you show me up in front of your girl, Lucas. We're not close like that." Marcus tells me, though the words are insincere. Marcus is a friend of mine, one who has even tasted my food, and that's something I don't let others do as much as I once did, barring people who go to the soup kitchen when I'm one of the volunteers on duty. My cooking can now do some decent stuff so I don't want to get anyone who isn't an ally or someone I need in my pocket overly reliant on my skills. I grin at the muscular bruiser of a warrior and dart back before gesturing for him to come at me like he means it. The man lets out a hearty laugh as he begins to pursue me. He is a touch taller than me and he has muscular, wide arms that take up a lot of space.
I watch, diligently, as he swings them at me when he is in the martial sweet spot of being close enough to hit me with a fully extended fist and being far enough away for me to strike back in an effort to preempt or counter his blow. I dart forward even as he stops advancing and duck underneath the strike before I use an active skill from my "Dancer" class to infuse my agility into my strength and hit him with a blow that disorients him. He steps back, a look of pain and confusion on his face as I step forward and move close enough to hit the man with a much softer blow to the chest. I feel his solid muscles block part of the harm done to him, but the blow is still solid enough that I watch his HP lower.
He gasps in pain and staggers back, and I smile at him and sense my triumph. He's only lost a small portion of his total hit points, but for normal people, one's total stock of HP is an abstraction of their physical health. For me, my HP serves as a skillful shield that protects me at all times, and for me to fall in battle someone has to whittle away my entire bar before they take me out. In fact, right now my HP is not maxed out; earlier I took a hit from Marcus that I'm still recovering from.
I take a step forward before Marcus signals that he needs a break. I laugh, the sound filling the part of the gym we're fighting in, and stop approaching the man. Hannah walks up to the ring and offers me some of her water as I walk toward one of the corners of the small ring. I silently gesture that I'll accept it and she tosses it at me. When the object is in my hand I use subtle telekinesis to mess with my boxing glove just enough to more easily hold onto the water bottle and sip from it. The cool water tastes good, and I smile as I feel it helping me relax as I wait to continue the fight. This is the sixth time I've beaten Marcus, but I'll give the man one bit of praise: he's persistent. He likes fighting enough that he is always eager to try and fight me, and I like fighting just enough to appreciate his resistance to the idea that I can beat him. It's not always easy for me to keep on finding partners that I can spar with.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
In the days that follow this fight, the young jumper continues to spar with Marcus. He steadily trains his "Brawler" class, and takes on class skills that do things like make him a more efficient hand-to-hand fighter, even gaining skills that he suspects, and hopes that he won't need here; like the ability to launch a punch that can inflict damage at a distance.
The figure's volunteering remains a steadfast facet of his in-jump identity. The man gains popularity throughout the place that is, functionally, his hometown, as he becomes a well-known volunteer. He even makes the places he volunteers at more popular, using a steadily increasing amount of local and online popularity to advocate for the organizations he supports. This first began to occur about three months into his stay in the jump, but he really begins to leverage it at the six month mark and he quickly begins to slowly become a minor force in the community, taking advantage of his heavy charisma build to sway hearts and minds to his cause.
His days at work continue to remain fairly unchanged from how they were at the start of his time in the jump, though on very rare occasions he creates reports and the in-jump equivalent of PowerPoint presentations about the data he has compiled to his supervisor. He has also overseen a day of service for members of his department to go and volunteer at the soup kitchen where he volunteered on the day he met Hannah, allowing him a pleasant chance to practice his leadership skills. He earns his first pay raise just under a year into his stay in this setting.
Minor missteps occur along the way, such as the figure overbooking himself during one particularly hectic weekend, which annoys his friends and fellow volunteers but serves as a decently humbling experience for the overly eager adventurer and also shows his friends that he is, ultimately, human.
Lucas continues his relaxed, fairly peaceful days for more and more time. By the time he has been in the jump for a full two years his pre-jump life feels like a memory or a strange dream, though this change to his state of mind does not actually mean he cannot recall such a time only that he has fully acclimated to the realities of being a jumper. At least as much as someone who is still on their first jump can acclimate to such a thing.
A/N: I like this episodic style for the necessary time skips that a standard (or mostly standard) jumpchain story will require. Now I'm gonna say that this style won't be universal across all jumps since some jumps may be better suited to shorter timeframes. Heck some more story-intensive jumps may benefit from longer focuses on individual events and sequences of events, but we've gone past the tutorial phase for this jump and I think minor episodic looks at broad timescales is better than a thousand chapter story that only hits one year in a jump and ultimately gets dropped. That said, I know that I'm not doing this style of writing PERFECTLY, so I hope that I can use this to grow as a writer and to become better able to convey how long time skips affect the characters, relationships, and strengths of the people involved over time. Still, if nothing else this was fun.
ALSO, as an author's note that is unique to the subreddit: this story is being published on Spacebattles and the white line that cuts through parts of the story indicates a narration/viewpoint shift. On Spacebattles and several other places I write there are in-built formatting options that allow you to cut through a textbox with a horizontal line which serves as a visual marker for some significant change to some aspect of the story. The line I made was my attempt to do that here on Reddit. It's... not perfect, but hey I'm trying.

2024.05.21 07:38 themainesource 2024/25 NBA Offseason Trades Eastern Conference

Preface: In a lot of these trades you could add or subtract a pick or two based on how you view certain guys, please don't get too caught up if I had a guy traded for 2 1st and you think it should be 3. We see plenty of trades in the league be holy overpays or teams moving off guys for a lower price than we as fans anticipated. Also, a good bit of these trades have big names in them and are just fun/what-if scenarios.
Detroit Pistons
Pistons bring back the hometown guy. Help set some semblance of a culture in Detroit. Get a 1st Round pick swap when Cade should be peaking and Warriors are in their post-Curry era.
Warriors focus should be flexibility, would likely have to attach pick(s) to clear cap space, retool around Curry either in free agency or at the next trade deadline cycle (move on from CP3 and others), and could use 2nds to grab other role players.
Washington Wizards
Wizards are in the asset collecting stage. Whether or not it is the Pelicans/Heat that will trade their guys— the Wizards should look to have their hand in any mid-to-large level trades that take place this offseason and take on cap for assets. It doesn’t move the needle for them now but gives them more ammo later.
While Pat Riley may stand firm on his word and keep Jimmy, there is still a chance he gets moved this offseason. Getting back two wing players on relatively good contracts (Ingram expiring) and Kuzma making a fair $23M, which is a good salary-matching number for trades, might be a better alternative than extending Jimmy Butler. The Heat would also maintain a relatively good fit around Bam and see if BI can be a more consistent contributor under Spo-- then decide to extend him or let him walk after the season.
Brandon Ingram has been shown to take a backseat in the playoffs, and the West is only getting more competitive. While Jimmy isn’t a prolific shooter he would help stabilize their offense and take their defensive potential to the next level. They should seek more shooting even with the emergence of TM3 to feed off the slashing style of their top guys. The Pelicans would have to extend Jimmy and their cap situation would get tighter but their next goal should be moving McCollum off the books anyway. I'd make that move and figure everything else out later.
Charlotte Hornets
Consider this a thought experiment on which side of the fence you are on about the health of Lamelo Ball. Yes, this is a trade that could easily get you fired if he consistently plays 65+ games instead of the ~30ish he has in the last two seasons. I’m not saying it should happen but if you’re on the side of it probably being a consistent theme that he'll be missing the majority of a season every other year this would be an interesting haul for the Hornets. Swap picks this year and get the future Brooklyn picks which as a franchise seem very lost right now— plus it gives you some freedom to push to compete knowing you'll probably have some good picks to fall back on. The Hornets hope to have Jalen Green become a more efficient scorer and get to pair Whitmore's massive frame alongside Brandon Miller which would be intriguing.
Rockets are meddling in that play-in tier. Alperen is him but you may have to take a gamble on another “him” to move into that next echelon. The Rockets would be insanely good at playmaking inside and out pairing Sengun and Ball. Move off the Dillion Brooks overpay and get you a guy that if he plays 65+ plus games you might be in the running for the 4-6 seed every year, if he’s hurt you didn’t give up your own picks to do it.
Toronto Raptors
I never really know what the Raptors intend on doing each transaction cycle but with the Timberwolves cap situation forcing them to make some decisions— the Raptors might be able to poach KAT for a reasonable price. They can buy a high-level shooting big to play off Scottie and RJ. I could see Masai fighting tooth and nail to only give up 1 moderately protected 1st round pick here.
YES, the Timberwolves have just made the WCF, and if they make it to the finals and win they may bite the bullet and be willing to have one of the highest payrolls in the NBA for years to come. But let's say they don't... they may look to avoid some of the constraints that come along with being over the aprons. They could potentially get under the tax aprons with this move, and get some rotational guys that could play and contribute in a competitive Western conference.
Brooklyn Nets
Nets get your picks back. I don’t care if they didn’t accept the Rockets offer, run it back. Or send Mikal somewhere else (Cleveland?) to get those picks back.
I'll give you another Nets trade if you're tired of the Mikal talk.
The Nets get rid of basketball squatter, Ben Simmons, which is a win in my book. Focusing their time and resources on their other guys.
Spurs finally get someone who will pass the ball to Wemby. The Spurs are no strangers to letting guys rest and fully rehab. Simmons most likely won't ever be that all-NBA level defender and distributor again— but as a rebuilding team, you might as well see what you can salvage. Also, Simmons is in the last year of his contract-- they could resign him if he shows signs of being a guy who wants to play basketball or use his vacant salary to round out their roster around Wemby.
Atlanta Hawks
Atlanta has one of the more intriguing offseason decisions coming up with them now owning the first overall pick in the draft. They have a plethora of tradable contracts and only one true untouchable in Jalen Johnson. They could run it back with Sarr or Risacher added in but I believe Murray will be shipped out of Atlanta to "recenter” their team around Young, Johnson, and whoever the first overall pick. They get to try their hand at the other renowned defensive guard over the last 8-years to put next to Trae Young. They could also pick up a fake first in 2026 to attach with players in future deals. The Sixers would hope to get Murray back to displaying the defensive tenacity he showed on the Spurs (he has been less locked in as of late) while still maintaining the ability to go after a high-end free agent(s) before extending Maxey. The Grizzlies get an expiring contract and high-level rebounder in Capela after moving on from Steven Adams to put next to JJJ. Losing Marcus Smart would be a tough pill to swallow, he’s the guy you never want your team to get rid of when they have him but the Morant, Smart, Bane lineup is less than optimal— especially when you can move Bane back to the 2 and slide G.G. Jackson into the 3. Moreover, moving from #9 to #16 may not be that much of a drop off in talent in this year's draft and the Grizz could either stay put and draft or trade that pick for a rotational guard.
Chicago Bulls
Bulls bring in CP3 as a mentor for Coby White, they hope to flush out the MIP runner-up potential to the fullest. They could also flip GP2 or buy him out later down the line as they have a solid backcourt rotation already. Get off of LaVine's contract.
For the Warriors, they would hope that LaVine can return close to all-star form, he feels like a guy who would fit into the Warriors movement shooting philosophy. Also, feels like he would become a fan favorite in San Francisco.
Miami Heat
It's time for the inaugural Tyler Herro mock trade. If you're the Heat you give Danny Ainge a ring and see if he's still interested in Herro. Check the DARKO DPM, Sexton or the sexGod is coming-- He had a very efficient season in fewer minutes this year in Utah. Get a dog and bring Yurt back for the vibes. Heat could include Duncan and take a gamble on Spo's ability to resurrect Collins or Clarkson.
I don't know why the Jazz would do this. I don't know why Danny Ainge does half the things he does, good or bad. All I know is Danny Ainge likes Herro a lot and maybe likes his ceiling a touch more than Sexton.
I'm picturing Ainge and Riley sitting in a sauna turning the temperature knob up and seeing who submits first... winner gets a pick-swap.
Philadelphia 76ers
A dream scenario here for the Sixers as they need to fill the spaces between Maxey and Embiid. Avdija has great length which shows up on the defensive end and has excellent rebounding efficiency from the 4 spot. His shooting improved this last year and would be a massive payoff if it cracked the 40% percentile on 4-5 3PA per game for the Sixers. Wizards likely view Deni as a cornerstone piece (I just really want him on the Sixers).
The Wizards could fetch a higher price for Avdija by holding onto him for one more year and letting him improve (which I believe he will do). The sell here is you get more 1st Round Pick equity to spend while you’re still searching for a legit franchise cornerstone and a solid rotational big in Reed after losing Gafford (Gafford is better than Reed). The Wizards reportedly want 3 first-round picks this year which the Sixers could supply plus additional capital to sweeten the deal.
Indiana Pacers
The Pacers move on from a guy who has fallen out of their playoff rotation and snag Kennard who fits their run-and-gun style of play. Grizzlies pick up Smith to bolster their frontcourt depth and could pair his length with JJJ to make for some nasty interior defense.
Orlando Magic *unserious\*
The Magic are in big need of a real rim protector and Robert Williams is a high-level rim defender. His biggest detriment to the Magic would be his spacing as he'd occupy driving lanes for Banchero and Wagner. The other side of this trade is more of a funny scenario to me as I think the Bulls front office would do this trade to prop up a former #1 pick as a sign to the fans that they are serious about contending, which they aren’t.
Cleveland Cavaliers
Preface: This only works if Lebron wants out. The Cavs get to roll organically into the Lebron farewell tour and try to retain Mitchell long-term by pairing him with Lebron. Lebron, Mitchell, and Mobley have a very similar feel to the Lebron, Wade, and Bosh Heat… not quite as good of course but the archetypes are there. Also, pick up a stretch five in Olynyk which Lebron would appreciate. The Lakers have limited leverage because Lebron can opt out, so they might as well get an All-Star level talent in return for him. Raptors just try to get in the mix, by picking up a young center and some draft capital.
Milwaukee Bucks
Don’t have much to say here. Pat Connaughton is probably the one contract they could/should move to snag a veteran who’s a bit younger than Pat but with more versatility at the wing spot, they’d pray for Cody Martin to pop off their bench. I just don’t see Doc playing young guys unless his hand is forced. Hornets take a flier on Jackson. You could toss in some protected seconds to the Bucks to replenish their draft stores.
New York Knicks
Who knows how a 36-year-old Bojan recovering from a foot injury will look next year? They'll likely lose Hartenstein in free agency (if they don't use his bird rights) and will need someone who can play a similar role. Get some athletic freaks and depth that Thibs can use to carry out his war crimes.
Trailblazers eat the Bogdanovic contract for draft capital.
Boston Celtics
There’s something about Kispert that feels like he should be a Celtic… I don’t know what it is. The C’s need win-now contributors and could look to move the 30th pick. Kispert is a solid rotation guy that the Wizards like and would be somewhat hard to pluck him from them. I think it’d be worth a shot for the C’s to kick the tires and find out his value.

2024.05.21 07:15 Accomplished-Fun386 YA fantasy/ first in a series

This book was a ya fantasy and first of a series. The main character was a girl who worked at a place that had wizards that could get hired to do jobs I think. I think she had a Volkswagen Beetle like car that was possibly sentient. The cover had the car in like a dump.

2024.05.21 07:05 paulxiep My take on Abjuration Wizard in a team: The Bhaalist Sentinel Wizard

My take on Abjuration Wizard in a team: The Bhaalist Sentinel Wizard
1st of, the 'Bhaalist Sentinel' role usefulness is not limited to this build. I have the same Bhaalist Sentinel role in my other parties and classes too. I don't know if it's a well-known role. What I know is it's one of my favourite, and the Abjuration Wizard is quite suitable for this role.
2nd, I'm of the opinion that there's no best isolated build, unless you're playing solo. The best build in my opinion is only best in combination with its own team, the other 3 party members. This Bhaalist Sentinel Abjurer was designed for my 4-Wizard, no illithid, no consumable, insomniac honour team. Its usefulness in other team compositions and restrictions will vary.
Without further ado, let's give you first the image overview of the Bhaalist Abjurer.
The Bhaalist Sentinel Abjuration Wizard at level 11
He's not yet level 12, but it's not difficult to deduce the final level will be taken in Wizard.
Race: Anything will do, but Wood Elf is most useful for move speed, and short races are bad for the same reason.
Levels: 1 Tempest Cleric / 1 Great Old One Warlock / 10 Abjuration Wizard.
Stats: Str 8, Dex 14, Con 16, Int 17, Wis 10, Cha 8.
He got Ethel's hair increasing his intelligence to 18. Without the hair, I would've dropped Wis to 8 to increase Dex to 15. (in his team it makes sense, his teammate can cast Calm Emotion, and they have 5 Counterspells a round between them).
Feats: 1. ASI, 2. Sentinel
Items:
Melee - Duelist's Prerogative (build-defining) Ranged - Anything (I wield Darkfire Shortbow) Body - Bhaalist Armour (build-defining) Head - Hood of the Weave (suggested alternatives: Circle of Bones if focused on Necromancer summons, or Helm of Balduran to free a ring slot) Cloak - Anything (I wear Cloak of Protection) Hand - Reviving Hands (build-defining) Feet - Anything (I wear Evasive Shoes) Amulet - Anything (I wear Amulet of the Devout) Ring 1 - Ring of Regeneration (build-defining unless using Helm of Balduran in headpiece) Ring 2 - Anything (I wear Ring of Protection)
Before elaborating further into his role, let's look at the context of his team.
The 4-Wizard team of the Bhaalist Sentinel Abjurer at level 11
His 3 teammates are: Swords Bard Control Necromancer, Tempest-Missile Evoker, and Vengeance Diviner. Everyone will take the final level in Wizard.
Basically the Bard is the obvious control Swords Bard with Mystic Scoundrel ring and Arcane Acuity helmet. The Evoker is a hybrid of Chain Lightning and Magic Missile nuker. The Paladin is mainly there to provide early game muscle/tank and take advantage of Hold Spells cast by the Bard.
So, the main role of the Bhaalist Sentinel Abjurer is to be the 'Bhaalist Sentinel'.
That is to say, he's supposed to be approaching melee range (with Misty Step if needed) of troublesome enemies you want to kill first, and that you want to prevent from reaching your allies.
Then, what you do with his Action and Bonus Action each turn is up to you. In my case, I have DC of 20 due to +2 from Hood of the Weave and Amulet of the Devout. DC 20 is very decent, though not phenomenal, so I use him as a versatile caster that can cast both Defense and Offense. He can also cast Create Water to set up for Gale, the Tempest-Missile Evoker.
This differs from what I understand of the stereotypical Abjurer, in which you want to weaponize Armour of Agathys and Fire Shield. For what I do with mine, being tough and pain the b*tt is enough, even though I also have my Paladin Shadowheart wielding Flail of Ages to inflict chilled to double Cold damage just in case. I'd weaponize the on-hit damage too if I long-rested more often, but for my insomniac play style, doing so is a waste of spell slots.
What is build-defining is what you do with your 2 Reactions.
You need to decide, with good judgment, whether you want to use your Reaction to Counterspell or Arcane Ward an ally, each time it pops up to ask you.
That is because your main role is to lock a key enemy to stay with you. That's why we took the Sentinel feat. If the locked enemy wants to move away by walking, hitting it with Opportunity Attack will lock it in place. Your attack bonus is 10, but with Advantage on Opportunity Attacks that is often enough.
That is your main role, and it serves both offense and defense.
It serves offense because the locked enemy will be forever locked in range of your Bhaalist Aura of Murder, allowing you to kill it quickly.
It serves defense, because the locked enemy is now unable to approach allies, and can only use its melee attacks on you. (and you have permanent Blade Ward due to your Reviving Hand + Ring of Regeneration, in addition to your Arcane Ward)
And that is how I designed and play, my take on, the Abjuration Wizard in a regular 4-person party.

2024.05.21 06:48 Left-Conference-6328 The Death Cell wouldn’t work on me because I don’t have any fond memories.

Oh gee. Should I drown myself for that one time I saw that rainbow but was depressed more by it because I felt so numb.
Nah I’ll pass. 😂
The Death Cell is still the most terrifying place in the Wizarding world in my opinion but mostly because of its clinical setting.
Oh was there a dementor here? Those things that suck all hope and light from your soul and surrounding? Wow. Nothing has changed at all. 🤩
I think what I’m trying to say is. I’m not ok right now.

2024.05.21 05:19 Score_Useful A Tragedy of Errors: a hot mess Dark Urge story

TL;DR

This is a summary of the wildest playthrough I’ve ever done in my attempt to collect all of the Dark Urge endings and see lots of unique story elements.
I set out to create a whimsical idiot who stupid-ed her way through major plot points so that I could see unexpected outcomes. I did not expect to experience the gut-wrenching, Shakespearean tragedy that this story became.
This post is quite long. I wanted to share it with this community because the experience genuinely left me speechless and I thought you might appreciate it. What Larian has created with this game is beyond next level. Contains MASSIVE SPOILERS, you’ve been warned.

I am on a personal quest to collect all of the possible endings for Dark Urge. I wanted to do this in a way that was meaningful and honest to the character I created. I love the role playing aspect of this game, I was super into LARPing as a kid and have been known to play DnD on occasion as an adult. I completed the game 3 times prior to this run: good guy Tav (saved the world, got the nice party etc), once as full on psycho Dark Urge who destroyed the world for Daddy, and once as Full Redemption Dark Urge who fully rejected Bhaal at every turn and also saved the world. So at this point, I know most of the possible storylines and plot points.
I really wanted to get the very bad ending I had heard about: the one where Dark Urge accepts Bhaal but decides to save the world and ends up going crazy. So I set out to figure out what a character would look like whose fate would naturally lead them to this path. I also wanted to see some of the more niche story elements that I had not yet experienced. I metagamed this a bit (I don’t know if it’s possible not to once you’ve played for like 800 hours) and worked backwards from the major plot points that I wanted to see to settle on my character’s personality.

Meet: Ceres

Asmodeus Tiefling. Storm Sorcerer. All around hot mess.
One of her first great ideas: watching a monster be born because it looked cool.
Her key personality traits:
Alignment: Chaotic trying-to-be-Good

Below follows the major defining events that happened in each act for her, and the tragic conclusion to what I initially thought might be a silly romp of a stupid character. Some of this I metagamed, but much of it happened organically.
Note: I played on Tactician as I normally do, so some of the encounters I had the freedom to redo to get an outcome I wanted. This being said, I rolled with mistakes and events almost all the time. The only encounter I ended up reloading several times was Orin… jeez that fight is a bitch when you are squishy.

Act 1

Ceres saved the goblin Sazza and let her escape, only to realize that she would then bring word of the location of the grove where her people were camped to a pack of vicious goblins. Off to a great start.
She killed Karlach because she fully believed Wyll and the “Paladins of Tyr” that Karlach was a monster. Then she instantly regretted it because she killed one of her own people. Her and Wyll talked about this and both felt terrible. She agreed whole heartedly to help Wyll rescue his father to make up for this.
Ceres stole the idol of Sylvanus while the druids were chanting, because she thought that her and Astarion were clever enough to do it without getting caught and she loved the kiddos who had put her up to the task. She ended up starting a huge battle by accident where many of her people were killed.
When she got to the goblin camp, she spoke to Sazza who told Minthara where the grove was. Terrified to blow her cover and get killed while surrounded by enemies, she agreed to help Minthara. Once Minthara left, she freed Halsin and he helped her kill Dror Ragzlin. So at least that was one problem solved.
She helped Zevlor defend the grove, but it was a close call. The afterparty was… subdued. Zevlor even commented on how so few of his people still remained. No Druids were left, save Halsin.
Ceres then tried to redeem her cowardly blunders by rescuing some Gnomes in the Underdark and helping out the Myconids as best she could. But her idiocy once again got a lost Dwarf killed when the mushrooms exploded around him.
After allowing Lae’zel, her most trusted companion, to enter the Zaithisk, she saw the vision of the legions of Githyanki being consumed by Vlakkith. Terrified of this vision and of the Gith in general, she offered the prism willingly to the inquisitor when asked. Upon entering the prism, she knew she couldn’t do what the goddess had demanded. She trusted and respected her dream guardian. She ended up having to kill the Githyanki leader she had tried to trust.
She then went after the legendary "Blood" she had heard about, but ended up blowing up an entire building full of people in the process. Lae’zel was incredibly mad at her. Thankfully, she heard the wisdom of Voss when he came to her camp, and trusted Lae’zel to choose what to do with the new information about Vlakkith and Orpheus. She agreed to help Lae’zel however she could. She owed her that much.

Act 2

Gale professed his love to her and they spent a magical night together. But he said he loved her immediately and it really scared her. It was too much too soon, and she told him as much. He sulked and was upset with her for the rest of their time together. She didn’t know it at the time, but she threw away her best shot at a nice supportive partner.
Instead of the hopeless romantic Wizard she could have loved, she fell for the broken shell of a man that is Astarion. She believed she could be happy with him, even though she didn’t fully understand their relationship and neither did he.
Ceres reached the Nightsong, but was truly terrified of Balthazar. She figured that maybe her best chance of getting to meet the Absolute and figure out what the hells was going on was to fulfill her promise to Z’rell and send the Nightsong to Ketheric Thorm. He seemed to know her from before, and figured that maybe getting close to him was the best way to solve the mystery of her past and of the tadpoles. In doing this, she lost one of her best friends. Shadowheart left in anger, never to be seen again. Needless to say, her plan was a very bad one.
She refused to kill Isobel or kidnap her per Z’rell’s direction, as she knew this would doom many good people. As punishment, Ketheric sent her to Balthazar’s necrotic laboratory where she had to fight her way out of some evil wombs that silenced her magic.
Live Ceres reaction: her plan is not going well... again.
She found Mizora stuck in a pod and attempted to free her to help her friend Wyll. But as she was very unobservant and failed to read either of the buttons, she pressed the wrong one and killed Mizora instead of freeing her. Wyll ended up as a pile of ash back at the camp. Her crew was quickly dwindling.
Somehow through all of this, she managed to defeat Thorm, spare all of the Harpers from dying, and lift the Shadow Curse. She sought the forgiveness of Dame Aylin for what she had done, and received it. Isobel was reunited with her love and Ceres was relieved to see that some good had come from the mess she had made.
The following night, Astarion had to tie her up while she went crazy trying to kill him. He was kind and expressed empathy. She thought maybe there was hope for her after all. At this point she was wildly in love with him but was scared that her feelings and her messed up brain had put him in so much danger.

Act 3

She finally discovered who she was and was beyond terrified to be the daughter of an evil god. She sought the council of everyone at camp. Jaheira and Astarion were very supportive and told her she would be ok if she stayed strong… something she did not excel at in the slightest. Astarion told her that “the life of a mind-addled slave is worse than death”. This ended up being the most hypocritical thing he ever said to her.
She fell a little in love with Halsin, and was surprised and a bit excited that Astarion was ok with it. She still felt a little weird about being in an open relationship but felt encouraged by the possibilities for a time. They both made her happy for different reasons, and she enjoyed fighting by his side. Her final team was Astarion, Halsin, and Lae’zel.
Via the encouragement of her most trusted advisor Lae’zel, Ceres signed the deal with Raphael. She failed at lying to the Emperor, who was very mad at her for what she had done.
Gale expressed to her that he wanted the Crown of Karsus. After much debate, she was convinced by his arguments that he could do better than Karsus and could reforge it. She felt terrible for having broken his heart before and so encouraged him to go after his dreams. After all, she had encouraged Lae to stand up to Vlakkith, so Gale should stand up to Mystra too, right?
When they were ready, it came time to face her partner’s oppressor. After defeating him, Astarion insisted that taking his place and taking the power was the right thing to do. So she helped him. They were both driven constantly by fear, and she empathized deeply with his desire to be rid of that fear. It was the second biggest mistake of her life. (FYI - I metagamed this part. I knew full well what I was getting into here, I've done both paths of his romance before. It was a key part of her story.)
She didn’t want to be made into a vampire spawn. But at the insistence of someone she truly believed she loved, she went along with it. He became controlling and abusive. But she figured that after all the wrongs she had done and all the people she had gotten killed, she probably deserved this life.
This was confirmed to her when she submitted to the Mapping of the Heart in a place called the House of Grief. The priestess there told her she had a wayward heart, and explained that this meant she was incapable of allowing herself to feel happy. She then discovered that the priestess was a Sharran and was actually searching for Shadowheart, who had abandoned Ceres long ago. She told them as much and they tried to kill her. So she had to kill them. She then found two people chained up in a secret room. She couldn't free them.
After confronting her past and killing her sister Orin, she faced a terrifying choice: kill the world for the god that made her, or die. Already used to being treated like a possession by her partner and terrified to die, she agreed to accept Bhaal’s favor. She was distraught when she had to kill the kind and supportive (not to mention living legends) Jaheria and Minsc, and that she roped her other companions into this mess. This was truly the biggest mistake of her life. She was horrified of the monster she had become.
Seeing that she had been party to forcing Halsin into killing so many of his former allies, she broke it off with him. She was ashamed that her actions had put him into such a position, and was afraid of what she might do to him. She believed she did not deserve someone so good.
She accepted from then on that she would be a slave to at least one dark master for the rest of her days. At this point she had completely lost all sense of autonomy: trapped between a controlling partner who had hypocritically turned her into the thing he hated, and the god of murder who gave her the ultimatum that she must kill the world.
In a last ditch attempt to salvage what she could of the mess she had made, she tried to be brave and take down Gortash the tyrant. She attempted to help the Gondians that he had captive but she failed to deactivate a device and the whole Iron Throne was reduced to rubble before she could help them. She felt absolutely horrible that, once again, her foolishness had gotten so many killed.
After defeating Gortash, she spoke to the god Bane himself, who told her she was well on her way to serving him and his goals. The idea that she could be working towards the ends of an additional dark power was too much. She was overwhelmed with the grief of trying and failing to be a good person for so long.

Endgame

Upon reaching Orpheus, Ceres wanted desperately to side with the Emperor, whom she had trusted the whole time. But with an ultimatum from her most trusted friend Lae’zel, she chose to free Orpheus. She felt proud that she had signed the contract with Raphael for a good reason. She upheld her contract, and never entered the House of Hope.
After defeating the Netherbrain, she knew there was no way she could act upon what Bhaal had insisted that she do. She could not doom the whole world after she had already doomed so many people before. She wanted, more than anything, to be a good person in spite of all her failures. She allowed Orpheus to destroy the brain, knowing full well she had condemned herself to a terrible fate.
Her friends left her one by one. Lae’zel upon her new red dragon, Gale to find and claim the Crown of Karsus for himself, Vampire Lord Astarion and Halsin to the pub to grab some wine and celebrate. She smiled for the last time.
The last smile of a doomed soul.
She felt the rage of the god she had defied boiling up inside her. But now she was tired. Tired of being controlled, being abused, tired of the blood and death. In a single act of courage she had never before possessed, she ended her own life, rather than become the murderous puppet of her father Bhaal. The last words anyone ever said to her in life were: “What in the hells do you think you’re doing?”
After causing the needless deaths of so many due to ignorance and carelessness, Ceres finally did something good for the world. Her ending was just for her. She had lived her whole remembered life trying to help others get what they wanted and living with the consequences of her foolhardy choices. In the end, she got what she didn’t know she wanted: peace. Floating alone in the void, she met a familiar face. For the first time in her miserable existence, someone named her “hero”.
(Queue massive waterworks from me, I'm tearing up again writing this)

In the End

Ceres broke my heart in ways I never expected. It was a beautiful roller coaster of a story that really hit home with me. Ceres unintentionally embodied many of my greatest personal flaws, and it showed me much about the folly of trying to please others. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to create a more compelling character.
If you have, for some reason, taken the time to read all of this: Thank you so much. If you have any character stories you'd like to share, please pass them along. I'd love to read them.
And a huge heartfelt THANK YOU to the team at Larian for creating a truly epic masterpiece. I genuinely can’t believe I got this experience from a video game. It is a wonder.

PS - because she never even set foot in the House of Hope, Raphael was still alive in the end. He came to find her in the afterlife and deliver a monologue about Gale going after the crown and his plans to rise from the ashes of the divine civil war he was sure Gale would cause. I presume that, in a few hundred years, there will be an epic showdown between Dekarios the Divine and Raphael. And Ceres will watch from the afterlife, calmly, with a smile on her face and no more voices in her head.

The Greatest Total War Game That Hasn't Been Made, Yet...
Conan: Total War, or Hyboria Total War.
This has been somewhat of an obscure yet much desired idea for the Total War series for awhile now, so I figured due to this idea being too perfect not to mention I'd like to bring attention to a series the Total War series hasn't touched yet but definitely has to at some point in the future... Conan The Barbarian.
Conan The Barbarian is a low fantasy pseudo-historical pulp fiction series known for it's movies and comics, along with it's games, that is set within the prehistoric era of the Hyborian Age that is placed around the time of 10,000 BC of our own history, a setting that takes note from the bronze and medieval ages of history with hints of prehistoric and mythological cultures thrown in. You basically almost have it all, Egyptian-esque cultures, Greek-esque cultures, medieval France and Germany, hell even medieval Spain, the mythical Hyperborea, the Norse before they became ship faring raiders, Native American-inspired Picts, and of course the scottish Cimmerians that later turn into the historical Cimmerians of our own history. This series is quite possibly the best series for those who like historical settings but also like or don't mind some elements of fantasy or mythology, while still primarily being grounded in reality and believability, you won't exactly have Elves & Dwarves or magic schools of wizards and the like, but you will have bloodthirsty monsters and demons of all kinds, evil cults or cabals of dark sorcerers, and even otherworldly eldritch entities from the Outer Dark as the series is linked to the Lovecraft mythos quite heavily. While you won't have access to full rosters of monsters and beasts(except maybe if you mod the game), given the pseudo-historical setting and all, some factions will have access to fantasy-esque units like undead minions or captive beasts of war, of both the natural and unnatural kind, with a lot of the unnatural variety typically requiring you to prepare and perform rituals to recruit or summon said monsters. Just imagine a sorcerer hero or lord like in TW:Warhammer summoning a giant serpent or scorpion from the very sand to flank a unit of archers or break a group of charging footsoldiers, if not just creating a violent sandstorm via sorcery to demoralize and break them and have your group of exotic zorse cavalry clear the battlefield of fleeing survivors afterwards.
If you need a reference for how this game idea would be like, imagine something like Total War Rome 2 or Total War Attila with the slight or minimal addition of some monsters or lovecraft with sorcery thrown in for flavor, you could almost even say it'd be like a more beefy version of Total War Troy - Mythos with a much much larger map with a ton more factions, and with slight elements from the Total War Warhammer games thrown in.
This idea has been in my head for awhile and even among a few others who happen to know of the series, so I figured I'd raise further awareness of it and if they ever stop making Total War Warhammer content then this'll be the next step and possibly the best step for the Total War series, as it literally has it all for historical and fantasy fans alike. I seriously hope someday this idea gains traction somehow as this series is criminally underrated in terms of adaptation and attention, after all we wouldn't have LOTR or GoT/ASOIAF if not for the works of Robert E Howard, and this exact setting has been DYING for a game adaptation quite like this. At this point I feel like our best bet so far is for a massive total conversion or overhaul mod for Attila or Rome 2 set in the world of Hyboria, unless we're lucky to have this game idea be heard and acknowledged since it's the perfect blend of historical and fantasy to make everyone happy.

2024.05.21 04:54 apageinthestacks r/Fantasy Bingo - Ursula K. Le Guin Edition!

Fantasy Bingo - Ursula K. Le Guin Edition!
A Bingo card made entirely from titles by Ursula K. Le Guin!
Some quick background: A little over a year ago I decided I would read everything I hadn’t yet read by Ursula K. Le Guin, and in order of publish date. This includes her novels; her story, essay, and poetry collections; children’s and picture books; chapbooks; and more. Literally everything I could identify that she published, I wanted to include it -- over 100 pieces of writing in total!
I’ve been doing it a little slowly so I'm still going strong, but I am bittersweetly nearing the end. Next up on my list is Lavinia , and I am incredibly excited to read her last novel. I haven’t been updating it as much as I’d like, but if you’re interested in the list I’m reading through you can find it here.
Anyway, since I’ve spent more than a year completely immersed in Le Guin’s work, after this year’s Bingo card came out I began to notice how well some of her books fit the themes, so then I decided to take it a little further and create a Bingo card exclusively with her work. 😀 I know this wouldn't actually be acceptable, since you can't use an author more than once, but I thought it'd be fun to show how expansive her bibliography is. So, without further ado:
https://preview.redd.it/9ytumeo01p1d1.png?width=1077&format=png&auto=webp&s=303c8774442b2fed120aecb0cf03f0461bae1b5c
My main focus was on having no repeats (although I still ended up having one, unfortunately–maybe someone can remind me of a book I’ve missed that also fits for either Dark Academia or Eldritch Creatures), so other books may be a better fit than the ones I’ve chosen for individual themes. But, hopefully this will inspire someone to pick up one of Le Guin’s works for a Bingo square this year. 🙂
The squares/justification:
First in a Series: Orsinian Tales Of course A Wizard of Earthsea and Rocannon's World also fit. Orsinian Tales is a short story collection set in a fictional European country. Her novel Malafrena follows and is also in this setting.
Alliterative Title: The Word for World is Forest Also fits: The Water is Wide, though it’s just a short story.
Under the Surface: The Tombs of Atuan Probably my second favorite Earthsea novel, or maybe tied with Tehanu, and much of it takes place in the titular tombs, underground.
Criminals: Malafrena Minor spoilers, but the main character gets arrested for political sedition. Also, in the novella Old Music and the Slave Women the main character also gets arrested.
Dreams: The Lathe of Heaven The main character’s dreams can alter reality. Written somewhat as a tribute to Philip K. Dick, this is a great choice if you’re a fan of his work.
Entitled Animals: The Eye of the Heron Various short stories also fit, as well as the collection Buffalo Gals and Other Animal Presences.
Bards: Gifts The story partially centers on the main character’s desire to be a storyteller and his journey. The second book, Voices, perhaps would fit this even stronger, but I’m using it for another square.
Prologues and Epilogues: Worlds of Exile and Illusion The short story “Semley’s Necklace” is the prologue to Rocannon's World, or in the recent Tor Essentials reissue it appears simply as “The Necklace”
Self-Published or Indie Publisher: Cheek by Jowl, from Aqueduct Press Depending on your definition, there’s actually a fair amount of Le Guin’s work that’s only been indie-published. She has a few titles through PM Press, Tin House, and others.
Romantasy: The Beginning Place Probably would be considered a very light-on-the-romance romantasy, but it’s probably her book with the most romance, besides Very Far Away from Anywhere Else which isn’t speculative at all.
Dark Academia: A Wizard of Earthsea I don’t know how well this fits the aesthetic. I could argue both ways, so I’ll say it does. 😉 The wizard school is the main part of the book, and I think this is the most academically-inclined of her books. The Dispossessed may slightly fit, but it’s more that the main character is an academic rather than the book centering on academia, if that distinction makes sense.
Multi-POV: Always Coming Home Set up as a sort of collection of works found in the future about a society in the (future time’s) distant past (but our future). Features several stories with different POVs. Searoad also works for this.
Published in 2024: Collected Poems, from Library of America. So this one is possibly cheating. While most of this is a reprint, there are 68 previously-uncollected poems, so it at least partially counts! 😅 And some of her poems are SFF.
Character with a Disability: Voices One of the main characters is physically disabled from torture he endured before the book takes place.
Published in the 1990s: A Fisherman of the Inland Sea Books that also fit: Tehanu, Four Ways to Forgiveness, Unlocking the Air and Other Stories, two Catwings books, three poetry collections, and many novellas, short stories, etc.
Orcs, Trolls, and Goblins: A Ride on the Red Mare’s Back In this charming picture book the main character comes across a troll.
Space Opera: Paradises Lost A novella that takes place on a generation ship.
Author of Color: Selected Poems of Gabriela Mistral, translated and with commentary by Le Guin. One thing that’s been fun about my read-through of Le Guin is being absolutely delighted by her translations. Not only because I get to discover authors I otherwise wouldn’t, as well as discover some of her own favorites, but because of what it reflects on Le Guin. She wasn’t fluent in Spanish but loved this poetry so much she took the time to meticulously translate the poems, getting input from friends and acquaintances. Anyway, many of these poems are speculative and I loved Le Guin’s commentary.
Survival: The Farthest Shore Another one that’s cheating a bit, because only a small portion of the novel is focused on survival but it is a rather memorable part.
Judge a Book By Its Cover: The Language of the Night This one is entirely subjective of course, and I probably would’ve used The Left Hand of Darkness if I wasn’t using it for another square, but I do absolutely love the new cover this reissue got. And it’s a fantastic book of nonfiction on SF&F!
Set in a Small Town: Searoad This entire novel/mosaic of stories takes place in a small coastal town.
Five SFF Short Stories: The Wind’s Twelve Quarters Le Guin has over a hundred short stories and nearly a dozen collections to choose from, but I chose this one because it has my favorite short story of hers: “The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas.”
Eldritch Creatures: A Wizard of Earthsea Slight spoilers: here’s an uncanny/mysterious/etc. shadow being that is a main antagonist and is, at least initially, seemingly beyond mortal understanding.
Reference Materials: Tales from Earthsea In addition to containing several short stories set in Earthsea, there’s also a map and “A Description of Earthsea” that has various reference materials about the cultures, languages, etc. of Earthsea. Always Coming Home is also a perfect choice for this square.
Book Club or Readalong Book: The Left Hand of Darkness It was a book club selection here: https://www.reddit.com/Fantasy/comments/n2lfc8/classics_book_club_the_left_hand_of_darkness_is/
~~~
And there we have it! So, sure, a few of these are slightly cheating, but mostly this was just a fun exercise and an excuse to say: please read Ursula K. Le Guin, she’s incredible. 🙂
2024.05.21 04:46 TamiGoGo HALLUGREG theory (There’s evidence to suggest that the mimic used Dittophobia gas on Gregory while he was GGY)
HALLUGREG theory (There’s evidence to suggest that the mimic used Dittophobia gas on Gregory while he was GGY)
HALLUGREG THEORY: The Mimic used the gas from Dittophobia on Gregory while he was being controlled as GGY
Key:
GGY: Gregory under the control of the mimc
‘GGY’: Book from Tales from the pizzaplex
TFTP: Tales From the Pizzaplex
CC: The Crying child (fnaf 4 protag)
SB: Security Breach
The premise behind HalluGreg theory is the idea that The Mimic used the gas featured in the last TFTP book, Dittophobia, on Gregory while he was GGY. Using evidence from the book itself, parts of the game, and ‘GGY’, it is implied Gregory endured the same torture Rory experienced under William Afton. To understand why this is the case, it’s necessary to understand the experiments in Dittophobia themselves.
To summarize, the Dittophobia experiments, or hallucination experiments, were a series of studies designed to gauge how children react under intense amounts of fear. The subjects in this study were unwilling, and all those who participated were kidnapped or manipulated into it. The experiments were conducted by William Afton and it’s implied that he even used the gases administered in the study on his own kids, most notably CC and Michael Afton. We see in Michael’s logbook that he knows what the nightmare animatronics look like, concluding that he must have been under the influence of the gas at some point. For cc, we play as him in fnaf 4, experiencing the nightmares caused by the dittophobia gas.
Connecting this, it has long been theorized that the mimic is copying some parts of William. Most notably with its digital persona, Glitchtrap, and its construction of the Afton family in the sticky note room. This theory speculates that the mimic gained access to yet another part of Afton’s life, the part of his life torturing young children in the Sister Location Basement.
First, I’d like to emphasize the clear connection Gregory has to one of the victims of the experiment, CC. Gregory is a near perfect copy of CC, carrying many of the motifs that make up CC’s character. Both boys are fighting against robotic entities or what they perceive to be robotic entities, both have a bear companion, and both were used to further the main antagonists’ goals (GGY for Mimic and the dittophobia experiments for cc). It’s also been pointed out that they have extremely similar appearances. Gregory and cc both have brown hair with a strand falling down the middle, they also wear similar shirts with Gregory copying the two striped shirt that was unique to cc originally.
By definition, they are parallels, however, I’d like to emphasize that them being parallels does not mean they cannot coexist. With this in mind, there is a suggested connection between them. Not all parallels mean correlation, but it allows for a base to structure this theory which will further be supported by hard evidence. With that in mind, I’d like to point out another character that Gregory parallels too, that being David Murray. For the sake of keeping this concise, Gregory and David are parallels to each other due to their appearances and their relationship with the mimic. I won’t go into detail as the David parallelism is not a massive part of this theory, however, AnotherDavid theory explains the connection between the two quite nicely. There is a thread that goes more in depth about this linked below:
Reddit link: https://www.reddit.com/fnaftheories/s/pR2UqkFFeN
Twitter thread link (recommended because there is more visual evidence): https://x.com/gregorysarmy/status/1741712311344308356?s=46
The connection between David and Gregory is important because there are direct references to David in Dittophobia, which in turn, relates Gregory to Dittophobia as well. In the book, both Rory and David wear the exact same zebra pajamas. In fact, there is a lot of emphasis placed on these specific pajamas because Rory puts them on twice during separate occasions in the book (unfortunately, I cannot attach images in the manner I would like to, so I will use MLA cited quotes from the book. Scroll up to the images above to see the visual evidence)
Quote 1: “Then he put on his favorite pjs-they were black-and-white zebra striped.” (Dittophobia pg 120)
Quote 2: “Edwin looked at David’s rumpled bed and the zebra pajamas that lay crumpled on the floor next to it. As David started to skip past Edwin, who grabbed Edwin’s shoulder. He pointed at the pajamas. “What have I told you?” Edwin asked.” (The mimic pg 142)
The zebra pajamas that Rory wears are also noted to be the only pajamas that fit him in his teenager form, implying that they are big. This could be a reference to the fact that David was tall for his age before he died and he also wore that brand of PJ.
Quote 3: “David, remarkably big for his age, in spite of having two short parents, wasn’t an easy carry. He weighed close to fifty pounds, and he was three- and-a-half-feet tall. Pretty soon, Edwin, only five-foot-five himself, wasn’t going to be able to cart his son around. Perhaps he could build a robot to do the job for him.” (The mimic pg 126)
To add on, Rory also says things that are eerily similar to what David says in “the mimic”. In “the mimic”, David is described to talk about fairies in the walls of Edwin’s factory. Rory describes a similar thing in dittophobia when exploring the ‘house’. They both talk about imaginary “pipe fairies”.
Quote 4: “It’s the pipe fairy, Daddy.” (The mimic pg 121)
Quote 5: “The knocking sound wasn’t a knocking like a person would do. There wasn’t some little trapped fairy or something in the walls. (Although the idea of that made Rory smile.)” (Dittophobia pg 126)
To clarify, I’m not trying to push the claim that David WAS part of the experiment. However, the zebra pajamas are symbolism for David in general. The same can be said for the “pipe fairies”. Due to the fact that Gregory is heavily related to David Murray, and there’s multiple David references in the book, Gregory is implicated in the dittophobia experiments.
Moving on to more direct evidence regarding Gregory himself, there is evidence that these experiments took place within the pizzaplex. This means the mimic would have access to them and would have the ability to reenact them itself. In the endo nursery, there is a picture of a young girl in the same exact bed used in the fnaf 4. Rory ALSO has this same bed in dittophobia which implies this specific design was part of the experiment. This means that whoever was involved in the construction of the pizzaplex somehow had access to the details of the experiments and went as far as to place imagery of an experiment in progress in the endo nursery. Considering that the mimic is the only one who seems to be copying William, it’s safe to say that it was the reason that this imagery was put up. Even if it wasn’t, it obviously saw the image considering the graffiti placed on the walls displaying Glitchtrap. (Image 1) With that in mind, the way that the fear experiments work in general would explain why there are numerous active endos in the same location that this picture is found in. When the gas in dittophobia stops working, Rory realizes that his nightmares were simply moving mannequins on a set course. For the pizzaplex, these mannequins could be replaced with the naked endos.
“Even though it made no sense, Rory was still terrified of the creatures. Knowing they were nothing but motorized mannequins didn’t take away his terror. He guessed that after so many years, the dread was too much a part of him to go away that quickly.” (Dittophobia pg 149)
It’s also a possibility that the staffbots themselves could have also been used. Numerous staffbots in the game have the words “in your dreams” (image 2) inscribed on them which seems to be referencing dittophobia in the way the experiments were simply illusions in the children’s minds, not based on reality. Hence being in their dreams. Ironically, the endo section is also the section that Gregory seems the most scared of. We get some of the most characterizing dialogue out of him here.
It’s also ironic that the reason Gregory has to go through the endo section in the first place is because Moon kidnapped Freddy. Moon, a character who makes it their goal to put Gregory to sleep, might be yet another reference the experiments as well, perhaps even enforcing them considering the endo section is heavily Moon themed.
Besides the bed in endo nursery, there are other references to fnaf 4 as well. For example, littered throughout Ruin and SB there are various nightmarionne plushies. Nighmarionne is a character who originated from fnaf 4 (image 3)
As a side note, it’s also notable that Rory’s name is extremely similar to Gregory’s. While that’s not concrete evidence, it’s an interesting detail to include.
Another important detail to mention is that the mimic was looking for ways to induce compliance in its followers. While it seems like the mimic was originally looking for ways to make Vanessa submissive, it may have also been looking for ways to make Gregory submissive as well. It’s not confirmed when Gregory was kidnapped and made into a follower, and it’s possible that he was kidnapped before the pizzaplex was made. This could mean that the email sent in AR by Luis talking about Vanessa’s search history may have occurred not just because Vanessa was resisting the mimic, but because Gregory was being defiant as well. (Image 4) Using the hallucination gas on Gregory would crush this defiance as seen in Dittophobia. Rory can barely function, let alone escape when the fumes are being expelled into the house. This means that Gregory would be trapped in a constant state of exhaustion and confusion which is exactly what the mimic wants.
“Rory risked slipping an arm from beneath his covers to turn off his bedside lamp. He closed his eyes, letting the steady hiss from the vents lull him to sleep as the drowsiness he’d felt all day finally claimed him.” (Dittophobia of 121)
Even with all this evidence, there’s not enough to conclude that Gregory experienced these experiments without a reliable location for them to be preformed. Even though the endo nursery may seem like a good place for them to occur because of all the cameras and children toys, there’s no actual bed for Gregory to sleep in nor a way for the nursery to be gassed. It’s also pretty obvious the children toys present in the nursery are for the endos developing their intelligence, not actually for real kids.
However, there is another location that matches all the criteria needed for these experiments to be performed, and that would be in the mimics lair. (Image 5) In the book dittophobia, Rory describes the layout of his room as having 2 doors, a vent from above, a closet in the middle, and a bed behind him. (Basically a copy of the fnaf 4 room) In the mimic’s lair, as seen in the burntrap ending pre-Ruin, it is set up similarly. There is a small bed directly under the sinkhole, two doors, a vent from above, and an interactive camera station that would replace the closet. (Image 6) The blue bed with stars present in burntraps lair is heavily theorized to be the bed Gregory used as GGY because it is child sized and the mimic seems to make its followers sleep in the pizzaplex considering the existence Vanny’s room in Fazerblast. (Image 7)
With that being said, the mimic has cameras on the opposite side of the lair which it could use to observe Gregory like Afton did with his victims. We see the mimic utilize these cameras to hack into Freddy during the boss fight. (Image 8) Additionally, there is a vent that leads to Gregory’s ‘room’ could be used to administer gas similarly to how it’s administered in Dittophobia. (Image 9)
Inside the Burntrap room, there is also a gas canister where the Dittophobia gas would be held for use. (Image 10) There’s also the fact that Gregory doesn’t really recognize the mimic in Ruin or SB. It’s possible the gas made the mimic look entirely different in Gregory’s eyes. Additionally, there’s evidence to suggest that Gregory is being gassed DURING the burntrap fight. When burntrap leaves its charging station, purple fumes are present, meaning that Gregory could have been hallucinating the entire time. (Image 11) This could explain why the fight itself is so nonsensical. It’s all being made up in Gregory’s head, Gregory is experiencing a nightmare he has had over and over again during his time as GGY. This would also WHY Gregory draws Burntrap after SB and why Burntrap is so inaccurate to the mimic. He is drawing the fake nightmares only he remembers experiencing. (Image 12) It would also provide some insight as to why Gregory doesn’t remember anything relating to hacking into the animatronics, killing counselors, or the mimic. His mind is foggy because the mimic keeps gassing him. Dittophobia gas has been shown to make people FORGET things.
At the end of Dittophobia, Rory, despite finding out the truth about his situation, turns back on the gas. As a result, he seems to forget everything that happened. He’s reduced back to the state he was in when the gas was first administered when he was seven.
“Rory’s gaze landed on his red backpack. He frowned. Hadn’t he gone to school today? He chewed on the inside of his cheek. He couldn’t remember. Rory sighed and shrugged. It didn’t matter. What mattered was that he needed to get in bed. Rory left the great room and started scampering down the long left-side hall, eager to get to his room. His hand trailed along the curved wood chair rail as he went. Pausing by the bathroom door, Rory canted his head and tried to remember whether he’d brushed his teeth already. He was pretty sure he had. So why had he been in the kitchen?” (Dittophobia pg 156)
Dittophobia doesn’t just make people sleepy or hallucinate, it makes people FORGET. The mimic utilized this to make sure Gregory couldn’t wander away or disobey him. It used the same strategy Afton used to manipulate his victims.
Finally, I’d like to bring up the fact that we seemingly get extra insight into Gregory’s hallucinations in the book ‘GGY’. In ‘GGY’, Gregory writes an interesting story related to his situation. (Image 13) He claims that he was the most favored apprentice of some wizard and that he was involved in fighting a conspiracy on another planet against a tangled entity. This, obviously, didn’t actually happen, but it’s clearly a dramatized version of what is ACTUALLY happening to Gregory. The story he writes is based on reality but it is distorted to make it seem nonsensical. This mimics the nightmares Rory experiences. The mannequins that visit him during the night DO exist, but they are distorted by the gas. It’s possible that the same thing happened to Gregory.
Perhaps the gas truly did make him believe he was fighting some wild, nonsensical tangled villain on another planet. After all, the blob, otherwise known as the tangle, is right above where Gregory sleeps. It’s possible that it too, was involved in torturing Gregory and guarding his prison.
To conclude, it seems that the mimic set up a room in its lair that copies the Dittophobia room so it could experiment on Gregory. It was made to reduce Gregory’s will and make him submit to the mimics control. As a result, the gas made Grgeory forget many of his actions in “GGY” and beyond. It also made it incredibly harder for Gregory to escape due to the sedating properties present in the gas.
TLDR: The mimic made a mini FNAF 4 in its lair to sedate/control Gregory like Afton did to kids while he was alive.
Additional info: I didn’t want to clog up this post but here are a few other pieces of evidence that are notable but not important enough to include in my opinion. Mostly just color and physical similarities.
1.) Rory talks on a walkie talkie like device to his friend Wade when contacting the outside world for the first time in ten years. The first conversation they have mimics the conversation Gregory and Cassie have when they reunite in Ruin. 2.) The elevator to escape to the outside world is broken due to a lack of power. Could be slightly referencing the elevator ending in Ruin 3.) Both the mimic’s experiments and Aftons experiments would take place underground according to this theory. 4.) There’s a lot of pieces of furniture that match Gregory’s color scheme in dittophobia. One of them is even blue with white stripes. 5.) both Rory and Gregory are described to be some of the shortest in their class. 6.) Both Rory and Gregory seem to be fond of bunnies. 7.) In the bad ending, Gregory draws himself sleeping next to a green leaking gas. This could be a reference to the experiments where a gas would be leaking into his room while he slept normally.
Additional quotes:
“All he needed to do was get the radio working. If the batteries were still good (please, please be good, he silently begged), he could at least try to reach Wade. If Wade was real, maybe he’d still have his radio. If he wasn’t, maybe someone else would answer Rory.” (Dittophobia pg 145)
“The radio spit a couple of buzzing sounds, then Rory was able to hear a voice clearly. “Rory! Is that you? Really?” “Wade?” “Yeah, dude,” Wade shouted. “Where are you?” “You’re real?” Rory asked.” (Dittophobia pg 145)
“-was labeled UNDERGROUND TESTING FACILITY. So that’s where he was! He was underground!” (Dittophobia pg 143)
“The fact that this monster was bunny-like made it the worst of the three for Rory because he loved bunnies.” (Dittophobia pg 110)
2024.05.21 03:05 Emotional_Reward_517 [Arcade][1990-1999] Samurai/Ninja fantasy plataform game
I am looking to identify a game that I used to play when I was 5-6 years old, so my memories about it are very blurry. However, I remember that it was a ninja/samurai or maybe wizards platform game. The first stages were in the woods, and the art style was very Japanese, similar to Samurai Shodown. Take this memory with caution because I don’t know if I’m mixing it up with Samurai Shodown (which I used to play a lot in the same place). However, I remember that one of the mechanics of the game was picking up swords or weapons to power up.
2024.05.21 03:02 obsession_devotion what gojo's death and character meant to the narrative + potential return
This post is to share my thoughts on the common question: "Why does Gojo need to return?" and the sentiment of Gojo having fulfilled his narrative purpose.
Although I'l have to begin this with saying that it would be incredible if Gojo truly returned in the chapter where Todo, the character who lost his hand, showed us how it was not his end. He had the ability to adapt and show his inner strength.
After the death of "the strongest", could Gojo show us his resilience?
Gojo's role in the narrative
I've read people saying that he has fulfilled his narrative purpose as a mentor passing the figurative torch down to his students but JJK's narrative has always been propped up by utilising Gojo's importance to jujutsu society and not just as a mentor.
Yuji is very much the typical "fish out of water" main character. He was new to the jujutsu world and through his fresh eyes, the audience learns about how the jujutsu world works. Yuji is the heart of the series but jujutsu is not integral to his identity. Yuji's identity is his desire to help others. His pure, kind character adds emotional depth to the story. He goes through pain and suffering and forges bonds with characters in a way that the strongest of the series can't such as Sukuna and Gojo.
For Gojo, jujutsu is his identity. His birth shifted the balance of the world. He is the strongest modern jujutsu sorcerer and is invested in jujutsu's future. Despite not being the main character, he is framed as "the chosen one" archetype within the world of JJK.
In fact, it might be easier (and also lamer) to understand this by saying Harry Potter's role is split into two. Gojo holds the significance that Harry had in the wizarding world. Yuji has the friendships and the personal ties with the villain, Voldy/Sukuna. But I think Gojo and Sukuna are parallels of each other too, because in other circumstances, Gojo could have been like Sukuna.
If you also know about Bungou Stray Dogs, I think Atsushi and Dazai are pretty similar to Yuji and Gojo. Not completely but there's some similarities there in terms of their roles in the story.
Continuing on...
What's interesting is most of the narrative is driven forward by Gojo and even revolves around his emotions and desires. Gojo was the one who kept Yuji alive. The massacre in Shibuya Arc would not have occurred if Kenjaku couldn't catch him off guard with Geto's appearance, his best friend. This also required Kenjaku to keep himself hidden from Gojo up until that point, a villain basically revolving his entire plan around him. And of course, Gege had to explore Gojo's character in Hidden Inventory Arc in order to make that trick believable for the audience. And his absence is what led to the stakes being raised and make the world of JJK become more grim, Gojo was everyone's hope.
Gojo's unsealing was needed as that's what propelled the final showdown in Shinjuku. If Gojo is returning, I believe Gojo's death had a similar role to his sealing. It's to allow the other characters time to shine because ever since Gojo's death, it's been people jumping in one after the other to fight Sukuna. Gojo returning may also allow us to see all of them collaborating, with the return of characters that some thought were goners like Megumi and Nobara (i talk more about this later on).
But Gojo's death is also a new beginning for him.
Gojo has always been a psychologically stagnant character. Ever since birth, his existence is centred on his inborn gifts. His identity was based on his strength and he has always leaned into it, right up until his death. We know that his strength was also a burden. Besides from the physical challenge that Toji presented him as a teenager, Gojo has never gone through a true enlightenment.
An example is Toji who left everything behind and that allowed him to become stronger.
Another example is Maki, who became much stronger after Mai's death but we could sense a major shift after her time in the simple domain with the sumo wrestler. As that's when she became awakened, not when she physically got stronger because of Mai.
Gojo has never undergone that kind of mental growth. Even when he unlocked RCT and became the strongest, he became more fearful. He became aware that he could not protect or save others. He trained a lot more, had infinity on all the time and went on missions alone.
Gojo not being a fully realised person, as we can see with other characters in the series, actually hinders him. This was not a problem for Gojo when he was alive because he was so immensely strong. It was not until death that I believe he could actually reflect on whether he led a life that was true to himself.
The story has placed so much emphasis on Gojo's existence in the jujutsu world ("Satoru Gojo bursts onto the scene!") and a lot of it is on him being very pivotal to it. And I genuinely think that out of all the characters, Gojo's awakening is probably the most important. Not for what it means to this current fight, but what it means for the jujutsu world. Did the most gifted sorcerer of their time really give up because his natural talents weren't enough? Genuinely, I think for the jujutsu world, it says a lot more if Gojo could return after his defeat and no longer being the "strongest". Because not everyone can be born like Gojo Satoru, but I think it's pretty meaningful for him to show how he defines his strength rather than his strength defining him as that encourages sorcerers to be resilient even if they're not naturally gifted. And I mean, you could quite literally see that with Todo in this latest chapter who could still come back even if we thought he lost the most important part of his technique/strength.
Weakened Gojo
I want to address people thinking that Gojo is happy being killed by Sukuna because he went all out and thinks he would not be happy returning weakened. Gojo returning, we would assume is him becoming enlightened, so he has increased mental strength. I would not be surprised if that made him potentially stronger in a way even when his skills are nerfed. Perhaps that also includes him collaborating with his students.
Students surpassing Gojo?
so i know there's a lot of emphasis on students surpassing him and i personally feel this is a very subjective thing. but i'm going to talk about it based on the narrative, we are introduced to the story with yuji, megumi and nobara as his students. and even though gojo has other students, major ones like yuta and maki, yuta's story was basically done in jjk0 and maki's character exploration is more tied to her being a woman with a handicap in the jujutsu world. like narratively speaking, it's much more significant if megumi and nobara makes a comeback. and yes, i know the surpassing thing can be simply someone like yuta surpassing him. but what is the joy of yuta surpassing him when we know two of the characters in our main trio is buried in the ground . and i'm pretty sure they will return because gege intentionally left their fates open-ended by dropping hints that they could come back from their situations. some people think gojo being back might be what helps us get back megumi. and again, in terms of the narrative, one of gojo's stronger narrative purposes is to talk to megumi about his dad. in fact, i even personally think that's a bit stronger than the "passing the torch" one but all of this is just my opinion. and again, i think it's subjective because i know you might just consider them defeating sukuna as surpassing him.
Finishing blow
i still think yuji will deliver the finishing blow,. in fact, i've always thought he would die doing so. and he would be surrounded by gojo, nobara and megumi - can't imagine my boy being happier than that and it's fulfilling his grandpa's wish. so because i personally subscribe to this theory, i never really doubted that yuji will finish sukuna even if gojo returns.
Final thoughts
I'm prepared to be trolled by Gege.
2024.05.21 02:46 indica1989 Charmed Legacy
I want to see a live-action revival. Maybe we start with a Charmed reunion movie about Wyatt's wedding. Maybe Wyatt is marrying Marina, the daughter of Ava Nicolae, but she's cursed and they can't marry until the curse is broken or something. This could introduce us to the whole Halliwell family- Wyatt Matthew, Christopher Perry, Prudence Melinda, Priscilla Jane (P.J.) Parker Elise, Peyton Maria, Katherine Rose (Kat), Lana Mae & Henry Jr.
As for a revival series, the storyline could be something like this:
Setting: circa 2034, San Francisco
The Halliwell families have gathered to mourn the loss of their loved ones- Phoebe & Coop Halliwell. Their house was destroyed in an explosive attack that took their lives, and their daughters were left homeless. P.J. & Parker have moved into the Manor with their Aunt Piper, Uncle Leo & Cousin Mel. They've taken over the spare rooms that belonged to Wyatt & Chris (Wyatt moved into a condo with his wife Marina, and Chris lives at his club "Aftershock"- the former P3 which Piper gave him ownership of to focus on her restaurant). During the wake back at the Manor, Peyton asks her Aunt Piper if she can stay and live with them for awhile too, revealing that she's too emotionally distraught to go back to UCLA. Piper graciously tells her the Manor is her home too.
That night, Piper sneaks up to the attic to meet Paige who orbs in. Together, they secretly summon Grams & their mom Patty, as Piper knew it'd be pointless to try and summon Phoebe & Coop so soon after their deaths. But they wanted answers, and to understand why this happened. The Power of Three was now officially broken, with no long-lost sister to complete the trio. Grams explains that it's true that with Phoebe gone, Piper & Paige were no longer Charmed. But she assures them they still have their Wiccan powers, just not the collective Power of Three. Patty adds that the Power of Three was not gone, only dormant. Paige asks how they're supposed to vanquish the demons who killed Phoebe and Coop without the Power of Three? Grams replies that they can't. Piper flips out and blows something up in anger. Parker, who had been secretly listening behind the attic door, freaks at the sound and runs back downstairs before she's found eavesdropping. It is then that Grams clarifies. It is not Piper and Paige who will vanquish the demons responsible, but the new Charmed Ones. Paige asks "and who are the new Charmed Ones supposed to be?" Patty replies, "the ones whose powers were bound by their mother" to which Piper reluctantly recalls "who had a terrifying vision of their very evil future."
Phoebe's daughters are each dealing with their parent's deaths differently. P.J. is in denial, using her career as a photojournalist and her sexual trysts with her friend Trent Newsom to numb the pain away. Peyton is fighting through waves of depression, finding comfort with her cousin Mel and Aunt Piper. And Parker...well she's pissed. Her outlet starts with beating the crap out of big guys at the local gym using her MMA skills and progresses to her going full slayer mode & hunting down demons & vampires with her satchel of potions, backup spells, and a set of wooden stakes. But Parker is also feeling guilty. Guilty that she didn’t have the power to save her parents. Guilty that she survived while her parents died trying to protect their powerless daughter. After all, she was the only one home with them that night. P.J. was out with Trent and Peyton was away at college. She swears to herself that she will avenge her parents death, and find the demons responsible. But before she can do that she needs to find a way to trigger the long dormant powers she knows she has somewhere deep inside.
At some point after this, we discover that the BOS has been kept locked away in the attic for years. We learn this happened after a Christmas debacle involving a 14 year old Chris accidentally summoning Goblins, wrecking havoc on the manor, injuring a few, and which led to the sisters deciding it was best for their young kids to practice magic at Magic School and keep the BOS from them until they were mature enough to handle it. Parker finds out Mel knows where the key to the Attic is.
On a dark, stormy night, beneath the light of a full moon, Parker swipes the key from her aunt's bedroom while she's away at work, and sneaks into the attic. She finds the dusty old BOS in its rightful place and starts flipping through it looking for the demons who killed her parents. A teary eyed Peyton walks in and asks what Parker's doing up there. But before Parker can reply, the BOS starts flipping on its own, landing on the Dominus Trinus invocation. As Parker begins to read the invocation aloud, P.J. arrives from work. She calls out "Hey anyone home?" As Parker completes the reading, the Manor begins to shake, P.J. holds onto the staircases banister for support and looks up to see the chandelier glowing a bright PINK color. The shaking stops, right as the power goes out. P.J. whips out her phone flashlight and runs up the stairs frantically calling for her sisters.
(INSERT BIG SISTER SCOLDING HERE)
Holding her phone flashlight over the BOS, Parker can't find the demons responsible for her parents murder. P.J. makes her lock the attic back up and put the key back where she found it before their Aunt finds out. Parker shrugs her off and says she's heading to Magic School to find answers. P.J. & Peyton pursue her down the stairs....
MY REASONING
Phoebe & Coop dying would allow for Alyssa & Victor to return only in certain episodes as spirits. And thus, allow some space between the actresses....
Of course, this would be set sometime in the 2030's, so Holly, Rose & Alyssa could play 60-year-old versions of themselves & Wes & Drew could pull off being in their early 30's with a shave, some hair dye & make-up. All the kids would be anywhere from 22-32 years old.
ALSO, I want to see Shannen back playing Prue as either an Elder or Angel of Destiny. My headcanon says she was turned into an Angel of Death for a few years after her demise to learn to accept it. When the Elders or Angels of Destiny saw that she had finally accepted it, she was promoted to either an Elder or Angel of Destiny😉
THE LOST YEARS (2007-2011) Phoebe was into holistic care and decided to give birth to all her daughters in the Manor, the way she was born, with help from Leo & her sisters. She thought it was "safe" since they "destroyed" the Nexus. But by the time she gave birth, the spiritual energy from the Nexus had begun to refill itself, making her daughter's just as susceptible to turn evil as she and Wyatt were.
(2012/2013?) When her daughters were little, they were briefly kidnapped by the demonic sorcerer Corvalus who had found the wizard Glenwyn's scroll containing a prophecy about a new Charmed Power, a new trio of sisters, arising from the Warren line that could be swayed to evil. He then kidnapped Phoebe's daughters, believing them to be the fulfillment of this prophecy, to raise them evil. When the Charmed Ones found Corvalus, vanquished him, and rescued the girls, Phoebe touched Glenwyn's scroll and had an astral vision that her daughters would become the "evil Charmed Ones" controlled by some unknown Great Evil in the future. To prevent this and protect them, she bound their powers. Her daughters grew up having only basic witch powers like spellcasting, scrying, potions, etc... and believing the lie their mother told them their whole lives- that they were just late bloomers like their Aunt Paige and that "someday" their powers would kick in.
That's a bit of what I have right now.... let me know what you think, or what you'd improve?
