THANK YOU to Blackstone Publishing for graciously providing a free copy of this book for review at my request. All opinions discussed are my own and are subjective to myself as a reader.
I had no idea who Baron Ryan was when I requested this title for review - I saw the cover and liked it enough to read the book description, which is what piqued my interest. Actually, to be more specific, it was one line of the book description that did it: "He plays in a terrible jazz band, falls in love far too easily, and generally struggles with the business of being human." I just had to read about Charlie and his college adventures after that!

"I want to die, but I'm so unlucky that if I were reincarnated, I'd probably just come back as myself." \*

^ This quote is the best one liner to sum up the entire collection. These stories are centered around Charlie and three of his friends as they navigate their way through their Fall semester at Harvard. I found Charlie endearing and relatable, a lot of his mistakes were also my mistakes in college, just a little less embarrassing.

"I have this sudden urge to cry out of relief. Despite all that's wrong with life, you can still hold small flashes of joy that fight the dark like fireworks in the night. No matter how completely you foul up your life, somehow these flashes keep you going on the promise you can start over. You can begin again, I think in that moment. You can begin again." \*

^ This quote captures the essence of these stories. These kids are stumbling their way into adulthood, desperate to understand themselves and how to choose their path in life. I bet each one of us could point to a story in this collection and say, "This one here, this one is about me."

"If you feel nostalgic, I think that's a good thing, says Mike. It means things have gone well so far. Nostalgia is life's way of saying keep up the good work." \*

What I loved most about this collection is that it took me back to my college days, my young adult years. There were several bittersweet moments while reading these stories, but mostly I found them comforting and heartwarming. It was like Baron Ryan was patting me on the back, letting me know that no one has it all figured out at that stage in the game of life - it wasn't just me.
In my opinion, Baron Ryan did an excellent job on his debut. I found his writing style hilarious, insightful and poignant. I will absolutely read more of his work.

Hey y'all!
I had a little excitement on my Candela Obscura mystery writing journey - I just hit my 5,000th download! That's way, way more players than I expected when I set out writing a couple months back.
Folks have been telling me how the stories play out at their tables, which delights me to hear - it's kind of like co-writing a story, GMs and players add their own twists and turns, with new relationships or personalities for a familiar cast of characters.
Some of the player twists, I totally use for when I run the investigations - like, the abandoned bunker radio in Listening Post Echo being haunted with the voices of trapped soldiers, in a death loop sort of situation? That's genius, way spookier than what I had in mind! And some player-written details just delight me, so I run those, too - Dr. Hux having a hunk boyfriend, that certainly sparks joy, that went straight into my head canon for the character.
It's fun to see the different directions players take the characters. I play Ashley from The Beast in the Binding as a sympathetic, heart-broken sort of character. One GM made her the villainess for their next assignment. At my tables, Ariadne the witch has been an ally, an antagonist, and (with remarkable consistency) a love interest XD. Folks keep falling for Ariadne, I didn't expect that at all when I wrote her!

Now that we’ve come down from the climactic high of Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin’s (Luke Newton) scintillating carriage ride, we need to talk about the other couple steaming things up in Bridgerton Season 3 Part 1: Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) and his beloved wife Kate (Simone Ashley). While the newlyweds don’t have a ton of screen time in this season of the Netflix hit, they make the most of it. Kate has deftly assumed the mantle of Lady Bridgerton while Anthony is a man consumed with one thought: to bone his wife. It’s honestly delightful to watch! Jonathan Bailey plays Anthony Bridgerton with almost unhinged levels of horniness for his wife in Bridgerton Season 3! He must make love to her all the time! Take her on her writing desk! Interrupt a conversation to dance — and kiss! — her in front of the ton!
The carriage ride might have been the most scintillating scene in Bridgerton Season 3 so far, but Anthony Bridgerton is the character most obsessed with sex, and I love it!
Bridgerton Season 2 offered fans of the Shondaland show something of a slow burn compared to what we’ve seen in Seasons 1 and, now, 3. Bridgerton Season 2 was a loose adaptation of Julia Quinn’s The Viscount Who Loved Me, a story about how in his quest to find the perfect bride, Anthony Bridgerton gets fabulously in his own way. Anthony decides that he is going to pursue the “diamond of the season,” Miss Edwina Sharma (Charithra Chandran). The problem is he clearly sprung on her spirited older sister, Kate. The two deny their feelings, out of concern for Edwina, and in doing so prolong their yearning. When the two finally do consummate their romance al fresco, it’s quick, illicit, and hot. But all too short.

“Kanthony” fans may have eventually gotten the happily ever after they were looking for, but not the euphoric honeymoon montage that made Bridgerton Season 1 so popular. Sure, Jonathan Bailey gave us moments like Anthony being turned on by Kate’s scent, but the heartthrob really wasn’t able to let loose the character’s inner freak. Well, that is, until now.
Bridgerton Season 3 finds Kate and Anthony in the throes of newlywed bliss. The uptight Anthony of the past no longer feels the need to micromanage his family’s affairs, finally trusting Benedict (Luke Thompson) to fill in and sister Francesca (Hannah Dodd) to move about the marriage mart at her own speed. Instead, Anthony has a new mission consuming his every thought and that’s how much can he make his wife come. (No, but seriously, even Kate has to point out that most of his endeavors are for her pleasure and not to actually conceive an heir.)
What makes all of this so darn steamy and so incredibly charming, though, is Jonathan Bailey’s performance. Over three seasons, Bailey has mapped a journey for Anthony from grief to joy. When we spoke with him all the way back in 2020, ahead of the Bridgerton Season 1 premiere, Bailey not only opened up about how Edmund Bridgerton’s (Rupert Evans) sudden death left a void in Anthony’s life, but put him in a high-pressure position.

“At the age of 20, he not only lost his father, but became the head of a family. Suddenly, he had to be the surrogate father to a lot of his amazing siblings, and a sort of surrogate husband to his mother,” Bailey said. “He doesn’t have any space to make any mistakes. He’s making them under such high pressure. His self esteem just really suffers.
“I just want him to be okay. I want to see him smile. And I want to see him dance. Because he deserves the happiness afforded to other characters much earlier in their lives.”
What we get to see in Anthony Bridgerton in Bridgerton Season 3 is the culmination of that wish. Through his romance with Kate, Anthony has found the life partner who relieves that pressure gauge. He gets to smile. He gets to dance. He gets to make love to his beautiful wife whenever he wants, which is all the time!
Anthony vibrates with joy in every Bridgerton Season 3 scene we’ve seen him in so far. It’s not simply a guilty pleasure to watch him pounce on Kate, but a glorious conclusion to the story that Bailey has been devoted to since Bridgerton Day 1.

The premise behind HalluGreg theory is the idea that The Mimic used the gas featured in the last TFTP book, Dittophobia, on Gregory while he was GGY. Using evidence from the book itself, parts of the game, and ‘GGY’, it is implied Gregory endured the same torture Rory experienced under William Afton. To understand why this is the case, it’s necessary to understand the experiments in Dittophobia themselves.
To summarize, the Dittophobia experiments, or hallucination experiments, were a series of studies designed to gauge how children react under intense amounts of fear. The subjects in this study were unwilling, and all those who participated were kidnapped or manipulated into it. The experiments were conducted by William Afton and it’s implied that he even used the gases administered in the study on his own kids, most notably CC and Michael Afton. We see in Michael’s logbook that he knows what the nightmare animatronics look like, concluding that he must have been under the influence of the gas at some point. For cc, we play as him in fnaf 4, experiencing the nightmares caused by the dittophobia gas.
Connecting this, it has long been theorized that the mimic is copying some parts of William. Most notably with its digital persona, Glitchtrap, and its construction of the Afton family in the sticky note room. This theory speculates that the mimic gained access to yet another part of Afton’s life, the part of his life torturing young children in the Sister Location Basement.
First, I’d like to emphasize the clear connection Gregory has to one of the victims of the experiment, CC. Gregory is a near perfect copy of CC, carrying many of the motifs that make up CC’s character. Both boys are fighting against robotic entities or what they perceive to be robotic entities, both have a bear companion, and both were used to further the main antagonists’ goals (GGY for Mimic and the dittophobia experiments for cc). It’s also been pointed out that they have extremely similar appearances. Gregory and cc both have brown hair with a strand falling down the middle, they also wear similar shirts with Gregory copying the two striped shirt that was unique to cc originally.
By definition, they are parallels, however, I’d like to emphasize that them being parallels does not mean they cannot coexist. With this in mind, there is a suggested connection between them. Not all parallels mean correlation, but it allows for a base to structure this theory which will further be supported by hard evidence. With that in mind, I’d like to point out another character that Gregory parallels too, that being David Murray. For the sake of keeping this concise, Gregory and David are parallels to each other due to their appearances and their relationship with the mimic. I won’t go into detail as the David parallelism is not a massive part of this theory, however, AnotherDavid theory explains the connection between the two quite nicely. The connection between David and Gregory is important because there are direct references to David in Dittophobia, which in turn, relates Gregory to Dittophobia as well. In the book, both Rory and David wear the exact same zebra pajamas. In fact, there is a lot of emphasis placed on these specific pajamas because Rory puts them on twice during separate occasions in the book (unfortunately, I cannot attach images in the manner I would like to, so I will use MLA cited quotes from the book. Scroll up to the images above to see the visual evidence)
Quote 1: “Then he put on his favorite pjs-they were black-and-white zebra striped.” (Dittophobia pg 120)
Quote 2: “Edwin looked at David’s rumpled bed and the zebra pajamas that lay crumpled on the floor next to it. As David started to skip past Edwin, who grabbed Edwin’s shoulder. He pointed at the pajamas. “What have I told you?” Edwin asked.” (The mimic pg 142)
The zebra pajamas that Rory wears are also noted to be the only pajamas that fit him in his teenager form, implying that they are big. This could be a reference to the fact that David was tall for his age before he died and he also wore that brand of PJ.
Quote 3: “David, remarkably big for his age, in spite of having two short parents, wasn’t an easy carry. He weighed close to fifty pounds, and he was three- and-a-half-feet tall. Pretty soon, Edwin, only five-foot-five himself, wasn’t going to be able to cart his son around. Perhaps he could build a robot to do the job for him.” (The mimic pg 126)
To add on, Rory also says things that are eerily similar to what David says in “the mimic”. In “the mimic”, David is described to talk about fairies in the walls of Edwin’s factory. Rory describes a similar thing in dittophobia when exploring the ‘house’. They both talk about imaginary “pipe fairies”.
Quote 4: “It’s the pipe fairy, Daddy.” (The mimic pg 121)
Quote 5: “The knocking sound wasn’t a knocking like a person would do. There wasn’t some little trapped fairy or something in the walls. (Although the idea of that made Rory smile.)” (Dittophobia pg 126)
To clarify, I’m not trying to push the claim that David WAS part of the experiment. However, the zebra pajamas are symbolism for David in general. The same can be said for the “pipe fairies”. Due to the fact that Gregory is heavily related to David Murray, and there’s multiple David references in the book, Gregory is implicated in the dittophobia experiments.
Moving on to more direct evidence regarding Gregory himself, there is evidence that these experiments took place within the pizzaplex. This means the mimic would have access to them and would have the ability to reenact them itself. In the endo nursery, there is a picture of a young girl in the same exact bed used in the fnaf 4. Rory ALSO has this same bed in dittophobia which implies this specific design was part of the experiment. This means that whoever was involved in the construction of the pizzaplex somehow had access to the details of the experiments and went as far as to place imagery of an experiment in progress in the endo nursery. Considering that the mimic is the only one who seems to be copying William, it’s safe to say that it was the reason that this imagery was put up. Even if it wasn’t, it obviously saw the image considering the graffiti placed on the walls displaying Glitchtrap. (Image 1) With that in mind, the way that the fear experiments work in general would explain why there are numerous active endos in the same location that this picture is found in. When the gas in dittophobia stops working, Rory realizes that his nightmares were simply moving mannequins on a set course. For the pizzaplex, these mannequins could be replaced with the naked endos.
“Even though it made no sense, Rory was still terrified of the creatures. Knowing they were nothing but motorized mannequins didn’t take away his terror. He guessed that after so many years, the dread was too much a part of him to go away that quickly.” (Dittophobia pg 149)
It’s also a possibility that the staffbots themselves could have also been used. Numerous staffbots in the game have the words “in your dreams” (image 2) inscribed on them which seems to be referencing dittophobia in the way the experiments were simply illusions in the children’s minds, not based on reality. Hence being in their dreams. Ironically, the endo section is also the section that Gregory seems the most scared of. We get some of the most characterizing dialogue out of him here.
It’s also ironic that the reason Gregory has to go through the endo section in the first place is because Moon kidnapped Freddy. Moon, a character who makes it their goal to put Gregory to sleep, might be yet another reference the experiments as well, perhaps even enforcing them considering the endo section is heavily Moon themed.
Besides the bed in endo nursery, there are other references to fnaf 4 as well. For example, littered throughout Ruin and SB there are various nightmarionne plushies. Nighmarionne is a character who originated from fnaf 4 (image 3)
As a side note, it’s also notable that Rory’s name is extremely similar to Gregory’s. While that’s not concrete evidence, it’s an interesting detail to include.
Another important detail to mention is that the mimic was looking for ways to induce compliance in its followers. While it seems like the mimic was originally looking for ways to make Vanessa submissive, it may have also been looking for ways to make Gregory submissive as well. It’s not confirmed when Gregory was kidnapped and made into a follower, and it’s possible that he was kidnapped before the pizzaplex was made. This could mean that the email sent in AR by Luis talking about Vanessa’s search history may have occurred not just because Vanessa was resisting the mimic, but because Gregory was being defiant as well. (Image 4) Using the hallucination gas on Gregory would crush this defiance as seen in Dittophobia. Rory can barely function, let alone escape when the fumes are being expelled into the house. This means that Gregory would be trapped in a constant state of exhaustion and confusion which is exactly what the mimic wants.
“Rory risked slipping an arm from beneath his covers to turn off his bedside lamp. He closed his eyes, letting the steady hiss from the vents lull him to sleep as the drowsiness he’d felt all day finally claimed him.” (Dittophobia of 121)
Even with all this evidence, there’s not enough to conclude that Gregory experienced these experiments without a reliable location for them to be preformed. Even though the endo nursery may seem like a good place for them to occur because of all the cameras and children toys, there’s no actual bed for Gregory to sleep in nor a way for the nursery to be gassed. It’s also pretty obvious the children toys present in the nursery are for the endos developing their intelligence, not actually for real kids.
However, there is another location that matches all the criteria needed for these experiments to be performed, and that would be in the mimics lair. (Image 5) In the book dittophobia, Rory describes the layout of his room as having 2 doors, a vent from above, a closet in the middle, and a bed behind him. (Basically a copy of the fnaf 4 room) In the mimic’s lair, as seen in the burntrap ending pre-Ruin, it is set up similarly. There is a small bed directly under the sinkhole, two doors, a vent from above, and an interactive camera station that would replace the closet. (Image 6) The blue bed with stars present in burntraps lair is heavily theorized to be the bed Gregory used as GGY because it is child sized and the mimic seems to make its followers sleep in the pizzaplex considering the existence Vanny’s room in Fazerblast. (Image 7)
With that being said, the mimic has cameras on the opposite side of the lair which it could use to observe Gregory like Afton did with his victims. We see the mimic utilize these cameras to hack into Freddy during the boss fight. (Image 8) Additionally, there is a vent that leads to Gregory’s ‘room’ could be used to administer gas similarly to how it’s administered in Dittophobia. (Image 9)
Inside the Burntrap room, there is also a gas canister where the Dittophobia gas would be held for use. (Image 10) There’s also the fact that Gregory doesn’t really recognize the mimic in Ruin or SB. It’s possible the gas made the mimic look entirely different in Gregory’s eyes. Additionally, there’s evidence to suggest that Gregory is being gassed DURING the burntrap fight. When burntrap leaves its charging station, purple fumes are present, meaning that Gregory could have been hallucinating the entire time. (Image 11) This could explain why the fight itself is so nonsensical. It’s all being made up in Gregory’s head, Gregory is experiencing a nightmare he has had over and over again during his time as GGY. This would also WHY Gregory draws Burntrap after SB and why Burntrap is so inaccurate to the mimic. He is drawing the fake nightmares only he remembers experiencing. (Image 12) It would also provide some insight as to why Gregory doesn’t remember anything relating to hacking into the animatronics, killing counselors, or the mimic. His mind is foggy because the mimic keeps gassing him. Dittophobia gas has been shown to make people FORGET things.
At the end of Dittophobia, Rory, despite finding out the truth about his situation, turns back on the gas. As a result, he seems to forget everything that happened. He’s reduced back to the state he was in when the gas was first administered when he was seven.
“Rory’s gaze landed on his red backpack. He frowned. Hadn’t he gone to school today? He chewed on the inside of his cheek. He couldn’t remember. Rory sighed and shrugged. It didn’t matter. What mattered was that he needed to get in bed. Rory left the great room and started scampering down the long left-side hall, eager to get to his room. His hand trailed along the curved wood chair rail as he went. Pausing by the bathroom door, Rory canted his head and tried to remember whether he’d brushed his teeth already. He was pretty sure he had. So why had he been in the kitchen?” (Dittophobia pg 156)
Dittophobia doesn’t just make people sleepy or hallucinate, it makes people FORGET. The mimic utilized this to make sure Gregory couldn’t wander away or disobey him. It used the same strategy Afton used to manipulate his victims.
Finally, I’d like to bring up the fact that we seemingly get extra insight into Gregory’s hallucinations in the book ‘GGY’. In ‘GGY’, Gregory writes an interesting story related to his situation. (Image 13) He claims that he was the most favored apprentice of some wizard and that he was involved in fighting a conspiracy on another planet against a tangled entity. This, obviously, didn’t actually happen, but it’s clearly a dramatized version of what is ACTUALLY happening to Gregory. The story he writes is based on reality but it is distorted to make it seem nonsensical. This mimics the nightmares Rory experiences. The mannequins that visit him during the night DO exist, but they are distorted by the gas. It’s possible that the same thing happened to Gregory.
Perhaps the gas truly did make him believe he was fighting some wild, nonsensical tangled villain on another planet. After all, the blob, otherwise known as the tangle, is right above where Gregory sleeps. It’s possible that it too, was involved in torturing Gregory and guarding his prison.
To conclude, it seems that the mimic set up a room in its lair that copies the Dittophobia room so it could experiment on Gregory. It was made to reduce Gregory’s will and make him submit to the mimics control. As a result, the gas made Grgeory forget many of his actions in “GGY” and beyond. It also made it incredibly harder for Gregory to escape due to the sedating properties present in the gas.
TLDR: The mimic made a mini FNAF 4 in its lair to sedate/control Gregory like Afton did to kids while he was alive.
Additional info: I didn’t want to clog up this post but here are a few other pieces of evidence that are notable but not important enough to include in my opinion. Mostly just color and physical similarities.
1.) Rory talks on a walkie talkie like device to his friend Wade when contacting the outside world for the first time in ten years. Could be slightly referencing the elevator ending in Ruin 3.) Both the mimic’s experiments and Aftons experiments would take place underground according to this theory. 4.) There’s a lot of pieces of furniture that match Gregory’s color scheme in dittophobia. One of them is even blue with white stripes. 5.) both Rory and Gregory are described to be some of the shortest in their class. 6.) Both Rory and Gregory seem to be fond of bunnies. 7.) In the bad ending, Gregory draws himself sleeping next to a green leaking gas. This could be a reference to the experiments where a gas would be leaking into his room while he slept normally.

The premise behind HalluGreg theory is the idea that The Mimic used the gas featured in the last TFTP book, Dittophobia, on Gregory while he was GGY. Using evidence from the book itself, parts of the game, and ‘GGY’, it is implied Gregory endured the same torture Rory experienced under William Afton. To understand why this is the case, it’s necessary to understand the experiments in Dittophobia themselves.
To summarize, the Dittophobia experiments, or hallucination experiments, were a series of studies designed to gauge how children react under intense amounts of fear. The subjects in this study were unwilling, and all those who participated were kidnapped or manipulated into it. The experiments were conducted by William Afton and it’s implied that he even used the gases administered in the study on his own kids, most notably CC and Michael Afton. We see in Michael’s logbook that he knows what the nightmare animatronics look like, concluding that he must have been under the influence of the gas at some point. For cc, we play as him in fnaf 4, experiencing the nightmares caused by the dittophobia gas.
Connecting this, it has long been theorized that the mimic is copying some parts of William. Most notably with its digital persona, Glitchtrap, and its construction of the Afton family in the sticky note room. This theory speculates that the mimic gained access to yet another part of Afton’s life, the part of his life torturing young children in the Sister Location Basement.
First, I’d like to emphasize the clear connection Gregory has to one of the victims of the experiment, CC. Gregory is a near perfect copy of CC, carrying many of the motifs that make up CC’s character. Both boys are fighting against robotic entities or what they perceive to be robotic entities, both have a bear companion, and both were used to further the main antagonists’ goals (GGY for Mimic and the dittophobia experiments for cc). It’s also been pointed out that they have extremely similar appearances. Gregory and cc both have brown hair with a strand falling down the middle, they also wear similar shirts with Gregory copying the two striped shirt that was unique to cc originally.
By definition, they are parallels, however, I’d like to emphasize that them being parallels does not mean they cannot coexist. With this in mind, there is a suggested connection between them. Not all parallels mean correlation, but it allows for a base to structure this theory which will further be supported by hard evidence. With that in mind, I’d like to point out another character that Gregory parallels too, that being David Murray. For the sake of keeping this concise, Gregory and David are parallels to each other due to their appearances and their relationship with the mimic. I won’t go into detail as the David parallelism is not a massive part of this theory, however, AnotherDavid theory explains the connection between the two quite nicely. The connection between David and Gregory is important because there are direct references to David in Dittophobia, which in turn, relates Gregory to Dittophobia as well. In the book, both Rory and David wear the exact same zebra pajamas. In fact, there is a lot of emphasis placed on these specific pajamas because Rory puts them on twice during separate occasions in the book (unfortunately, I cannot attach images in the manner I would like to, so I will use MLA cited quotes from the book. Scroll up to the images above to see the visual evidence)
Quote 1: “Then he put on his favorite pjs-they were black-and-white zebra striped.” (Dittophobia pg 120)
Quote 2: “Edwin looked at David’s rumpled bed and the zebra pajamas that lay crumpled on the floor next to it. As David started to skip past Edwin, who grabbed Edwin’s shoulder. He pointed at the pajamas. “What have I told you?” Edwin asked.” (The mimic pg 142)
The zebra pajamas that Rory wears are also noted to be the only pajamas that fit him in his teenager form, implying that they are big. This could be a reference to the fact that David was tall for his age before he died and he also wore that brand of PJ.
Quote 3: “David, remarkably big for his age, in spite of having two short parents, wasn’t an easy carry. He weighed close to fifty pounds, and he was three- and-a-half-feet tall. Pretty soon, Edwin, only five-foot-five himself, wasn’t going to be able to cart his son around. Perhaps he could build a robot to do the job for him.” (The mimic pg 126)
To add on, Rory also says things that are eerily similar to what David says in “the mimic”. In “the mimic”, David is described to talk about fairies in the walls of Edwin’s factory. Rory describes a similar thing in dittophobia when exploring the ‘house’. They both talk about imaginary “pipe fairies”.
Quote 4: “It’s the pipe fairy, Daddy.” (The mimic pg 121)
Quote 5: “The knocking sound wasn’t a knocking like a person would do. There wasn’t some little trapped fairy or something in the walls. (Although the idea of that made Rory smile.)” (Dittophobia pg 126)
To clarify, I’m not trying to push the claim that David WAS part of the experiment. However, the zebra pajamas are symbolism for David in general. The same can be said for the “pipe fairies”. Due to the fact that Gregory is heavily related to David Murray, and there’s multiple David references in the book, Gregory is implicated in the dittophobia experiments.
Moving on to more direct evidence regarding Gregory himself, there is evidence that these experiments took place within the pizzaplex. This means the mimic would have access to them and would have the ability to reenact them itself. In the endo nursery, there is a picture of a young girl in the same exact bed used in the fnaf 4. Rory ALSO has this same bed in dittophobia which implies this specific design was part of the experiment. This means that whoever was involved in the construction of the pizzaplex somehow had access to the details of the experiments and went as far as to place imagery of an experiment in progress in the endo nursery. Considering that the mimic is the only one who seems to be copying William, it’s safe to say that it was the reason that this imagery was put up. Even if it wasn’t, it obviously saw the image considering the graffiti placed on the walls displaying Glitchtrap. (Image 1) With that in mind, the way that the fear experiments work in general would explain why there are numerous active endos in the same location that this picture is found in. When the gas in dittophobia stops working, Rory realizes that his nightmares were simply moving mannequins on a set course. For the pizzaplex, these mannequins could be replaced with the naked endos.
“Even though it made no sense, Rory was still terrified of the creatures. Knowing they were nothing but motorized mannequins didn’t take away his terror. He guessed that after so many years, the dread was too much a part of him to go away that quickly.” (Dittophobia pg 149)
It’s also a possibility that the staffbots themselves could have also been used. Numerous staffbots in the game have the words “in your dreams” (image 2) inscribed on them which seems to be referencing dittophobia in the way the experiments were simply illusions in the children’s minds, not based on reality. Hence being in their dreams. Ironically, the endo section is also the section that Gregory seems the most scared of. We get some of the most characterizing dialogue out of him here.
It’s also ironic that the reason Gregory has to go through the endo section in the first place is because Moon kidnapped Freddy. Moon, a character who makes it their goal to put Gregory to sleep, might be yet another reference the experiments as well, perhaps even enforcing them considering the endo section is heavily Moon themed.
Besides the bed in endo nursery, there are other references to fnaf 4 as well. For example, littered throughout Ruin and SB there are various nightmarionne plushies. Nighmarionne is a character who originated from fnaf 4 (image 3)
As a side note, it’s also notable that Rory’s name is extremely similar to Gregory’s. While that’s not concrete evidence, it’s an interesting detail to include.
Another important detail to mention is that the mimic was looking for ways to induce compliance in its followers. While it seems like the mimic was originally looking for ways to make Vanessa submissive, it may have also been looking for ways to make Gregory submissive as well. It’s not confirmed when Gregory was kidnapped and made into a follower, and it’s possible that he was kidnapped before the pizzaplex was made. This could mean that the email sent in AR by Luis talking about Vanessa’s search history may have occurred not just because Vanessa was resisting the mimic, but because Gregory was being defiant as well. (Image 4) Using the hallucination gas on Gregory would crush this defiance as seen in Dittophobia. Rory can barely function, let alone escape when the fumes are being expelled into the house. This means that Gregory would be trapped in a constant state of exhaustion and confusion which is exactly what the mimic wants.
“Rory risked slipping an arm from beneath his covers to turn off his bedside lamp. He closed his eyes, letting the steady hiss from the vents lull him to sleep as the drowsiness he’d felt all day finally claimed him.” (Dittophobia of 121)
Even with all this evidence, there’s not enough to conclude that Gregory experienced these experiments without a reliable location for them to be preformed. Even though the endo nursery may seem like a good place for them to occur because of all the cameras and children toys, there’s no actual bed for Gregory to sleep in nor a way for the nursery to be gassed. It’s also pretty obvious the children toys present in the nursery are for the endos developing their intelligence, not actually for real kids.
However, there is another location that matches all the criteria needed for these experiments to be performed, and that would be in the mimics lair. (Image 5) In the book dittophobia, Rory describes the layout of his room as having 2 doors, a vent from above, a closet in the middle, and a bed behind him. (Basically a copy of the fnaf 4 room) In the mimic’s lair, as seen in the burntrap ending pre-Ruin, it is set up similarly. There is a small bed directly under the sinkhole, two doors, a vent from above, and an interactive camera station that would replace the closet. (Image 6) The blue bed with stars present in burntraps lair is heavily theorized to be the bed Gregory used as GGY because it is child sized and the mimic seems to make its followers sleep in the pizzaplex considering the existence Vanny’s room in Fazerblast. (Image 7)
With that being said, the mimic has cameras on the opposite side of the lair which it could use to observe Gregory like Afton did with his victims. We see the mimic utilize these cameras to hack into Freddy during the boss fight. (Image 8) Additionally, there is a vent that leads to Gregory’s ‘room’ could be used to administer gas similarly to how it’s administered in Dittophobia. (Image 9)
Inside the Burntrap room, there is also a gas canister where the Dittophobia gas would be held for use. (Image 10) There’s also the fact that Gregory doesn’t really recognize the mimic in Ruin or SB. It’s possible the gas made the mimic look entirely different in Gregory’s eyes. Additionally, there’s evidence to suggest that Gregory is being gassed DURING the burntrap fight. When burntrap leaves its charging station, purple fumes are present, meaning that Gregory could have been hallucinating the entire time. (Image 11) This could explain why the fight itself is so nonsensical. It’s all being made up in Gregory’s head, Gregory is experiencing a nightmare he has had over and over again during his time as GGY. This would also WHY Gregory draws Burntrap after SB and why Burntrap is so inaccurate to the mimic. He is drawing the fake nightmares only he remembers experiencing. (Image 12) It would also provide some insight as to why Gregory doesn’t remember anything relating to hacking into the animatronics, killing counselors, or the mimic. His mind is foggy because the mimic keeps gassing him. Dittophobia gas has been shown to make people FORGET things.
At the end of Dittophobia, Rory, despite finding out the truth about his situation, turns back on the gas. As a result, he seems to forget everything that happened. He’s reduced back to the state he was in when the gas was first administered when he was seven.
“Rory’s gaze landed on his red backpack. He frowned. Hadn’t he gone to school today? He chewed on the inside of his cheek. He couldn’t remember. Rory sighed and shrugged. It didn’t matter. What mattered was that he needed to get in bed. Rory left the great room and started scampering down the long left-side hall, eager to get to his room. His hand trailed along the curved wood chair rail as he went. Pausing by the bathroom door, Rory canted his head and tried to remember whether he’d brushed his teeth already. He was pretty sure he had. So why had he been in the kitchen?” (Dittophobia pg 156)
Dittophobia doesn’t just make people sleepy or hallucinate, it makes people FORGET. The mimic utilized this to make sure Gregory couldn’t wander away or disobey him. It used the same strategy Afton used to manipulate his victims.
Finally, I’d like to bring up the fact that we seemingly get extra insight into Gregory’s hallucinations in the book ‘GGY’. In ‘GGY’, Gregory writes an interesting story related to his situation. (Image 13) He claims that he was the most favored apprentice of some wizard and that he was involved in fighting a conspiracy on another planet against a tangled entity. This, obviously, didn’t actually happen, but it’s clearly a dramatized version of what is ACTUALLY happening to Gregory. The story he writes is based on reality but it is distorted to make it seem nonsensical. This mimics the nightmares Rory experiences. The mannequins that visit him during the night DO exist, but they are distorted by the gas. It’s possible that the same thing happened to Gregory.
Perhaps the gas truly did make him believe he was fighting some wild, nonsensical tangled villain on another planet. After all, the blob, otherwise known as the tangle, is right above where Gregory sleeps. It’s possible that it too, was involved in torturing Gregory and guarding his prison.
To conclude, it seems that the mimic set up a room in its lair that copies the Dittophobia room so it could experiment on Gregory. It was made to reduce Gregory’s will and make him submit to the mimics control. As a result, the gas made Grgeory forget many of his actions in “GGY” and beyond. It also made it incredibly harder for Gregory to escape due to the sedating properties present in the gas.
TLDR: The mimic made a mini FNAF 4 in its lair to sedate/control Gregory like Afton did to kids while he was alive.
Additional info: I didn’t want to clog up this post but here are a few other pieces of evidence that are notable but not important enough to include in my opinion. Mostly just color and physical similarities.
1.) Rory talks on a walkie talkie like device to his friend Wade when contacting the outside world for the first time in ten years. The first conversation they have mimics the conversation Gregory and Cassie have when they reunite in Ruin. 2.) The elevator to escape to the outside world is broken due to a lack of power. Could be slightly referencing the elevator ending in Ruin 3.) Both the mimic’s experiments and Aftons experiments would take place underground according to this theory. 4.) There’s a lot of pieces of furniture that match Gregory’s color scheme in dittophobia. One of them is even blue with white stripes. 5.) both Rory and Gregory are described to be some of the shortest in their class. 6.) Both Rory and Gregory seem to be fond of bunnies. 7.) In the bad ending, Gregory draws himself sleeping next to a green leaking gas. This could be a reference to the experiments where a gas would be leaking into his room while he slept normally.

“The radio spit a couple of buzzing sounds, then Rory was able to hear a voice clearly. “Rory! Is that you? Really?” “Wade?” “Yeah, dude,” Wade shouted. “Where are you?” “You’re real?” Rory asked.” (Dittophobia pg 145)

“The fact that this monster was bunny-like made it the worst of the three for Rory because he loved bunnies.” (Dittophobia pg 110)

I recently started writing in a relatively small city (around 200k people) and the graffiti scene is pretty quiet; I’ve been going out pretty regularly and getting up in some higher traffic spots but I’m worried I’m going to attract too much attention. I don’t know how much the police will actively look for artists. Should I dial back how often I go out or avoid doing too many main road spots?

2024.05.20 05:21 Dianagorgon Questions from a person new to Bridgerton series

Ok so I loved Queen Charlotte. I thought it was amazing. The writing. The acting. The costumes.
I watched a few episodes of Bridgerton S1 years ago and forgot about it so didn't finish that season although I think I enjoyed what I watched of it but can't remember. I didn't watch S2. I decided to watch S3 and I know from reading about these series and watching some of S1 the general outline and also from QC.
But a few questions.

How does "Lady Whistledown" get her gossip pamphlet to people? Does she secretly sneak off to a printing press and then stick it in newspapers or do they just never explain that?
I'm bored. Is there more to S1 and S2 or should I give up now? I though the main lead actors on QC were so good but I'm just not impressed with most of the acting in S3 although I blame the bad writing for most of it. The only exception is the couple who inherit the house from Lady Kent. Simone Ashley is stunning but even the "erotic" scenes with her lack chemistry as if she is going through the motions ("Ok now tilt head back, open mouth, groan") it all seems to robotic and mechanical as if you can imagine an intimacy coordinator and director hovering over them. Is it better in S2?
Coughlin has a lot of brow furrows, eyes darting in every direction and frowning. She seems popular on this sub but unfortunately I find her acting a little annoying. There is no chemistry between Penelope and Colin but I'm only on E3 maybe it will get better. In fact none of the characters are interesting. Should I even bother with S2?
Is there more to the show than the woman finding a husband and fancy outfits? I don't know if I had unrealistic expectations because of QC which had so much more depth or if it's just a bad season. Are there other elements to the plot?

I don't have Jane in my personal endgame, but I'm not mad at all that she made it here. She's probably the most divisive character in Nicaragua, but I personally love her. She's got a spunky attitude, has a great rivalry with Marty, great relationship with Chase, and has one of my favorite eliminations ever. Her boot is so god damn memorable, that lasting moment of the alliance telling her it's gonna be her tonight, with Jane in complete shock and despair is just perfect. One of the best characters of Nicaragua for sure.

Jane is on a very small list of players who I think has run the entire spectrum in terms of where they land in my rankings. Top ten, top hundred, middle of the pack, bottom hundred, bottom ten… I think I understand pretty much every Jane take known to humanity, cause I’ve had them. Nowadays, I tend to lean more positive on her, but I definitely still have too many issues I’m hyper aware of to let her rank too highly for me.
“What if we have Rupert’s hero edit to someone who was just really really mean, and did the bare minimum to hide it” is genuinely hilarious to me. Jane’s got good energy and her many, many, many feuds (the majority of which being with Marty) make her a great character to guide the narrative. There’s also just her boot episode, which is like… way too good of an episode for Nicaragua. I think I’m neutral-lean positive on Nicaragua, but it’s not a season that does a ton for me, but dear god, Jane’s boot and the scene of her dousing the camp fire is like so fucking metal.
She’s such a raw, powerful person. I think my biggest issue with her right now is just that, in a similar vein to Brandon Hantz, sometimes she feels a little too real at times. Like is she funny when she’s talking shit about Marty? Yes! Is the story great? Yes! But does some of what she says about Marty and his kids feel a bit too much? Yes, very much so. It’s not enough to detract from her character, but again… Brandon Hantz-tier of character. For me, that’s a pretty big compliment, but I also do not keep him in my Top 100. Same with Jane. But despite being one of the names that made Endgame that I disagree with the most, I am very curious and excited to see our resident “Least Sane Jane Bright Enjoyer” spin a tale or two about why she deserves to be up here!

I love that Jane is here, I am not even going to lie. Before my recent rewatch, I had Jane in the 200s, and after my rewatch, I was completely blown away at how complex her character is and the great relationships she had all season. To me, she felt real with her hatred, and the switch between the dry laugh we know her for, to the nasty person she became was endlessly incredible, she was such a great part of Nicaragua and one of the few praises I have for that season. Plus, when she finds out Chase, Holly, and Sash are voting for her, the music change and piano chord that happens there might be the piece media I have ever seen. Congrats Tom for getting her here!

Nicaragua is such a great season due to how emotionally charged it is, and Jane is a big part of that. Jane is the sweet southern lady until she feels crossed, then she has a whole vendetta against anyone who crosses her, so it's a lot of great fun. She is not in my personal endgame, but I can always appreciate a kooky character showing up in it.

Jane Bright:
This is undoubtedly my most anticipated write up of the rankdown, I have such a love for Jane and everything she does for Nicaragua. She has one of the best stories of all time, and just has so many moments that further it and make it cohesive. And that is what I will explain today. Jane is not just some badass southern old lady, ok well she is, but she’s also a very deep, broken old lady trying to put on a facade for herself. Her hatred towards everyone around her has its story and here it is…
The Mask
A lot like Rupert, Jane tries to paint a mask on herself as a hero and somebody who always follows her heart for the greater good. However, throughout the season we see cracks start to arise in this persona she puts on herself. She’s someone who needs a purpose and when somebody gets in the way of that, she gets insecure and bitter and that’s when we see the wrath of Jane break out.
The editors never try to pull the wool over your eyes by painting her as a hero, because they show petty rivalries with her and Marty and her boot episode meltdown. We get to see her from all angles, even if she only wants to present one. She’s insecure about herself, making her feel entitled to be treated as a queen and carried to the end due to her “heroic” manner. Once she realizes it doesn’t work like that and she actually has to play the game, all gloves come off and we get some of the most petty, uncalled for, or even bitchy moments that just have so much raw emotion.
She’s not painted as a hero while being an asshole (*cough* Ozzy *cough*) They show her as her flawed self, but they also let you make your own decision on what to feel without pushing a narrative onto you. Of course she wins Favorite Player at the reunion, so some people still thought she was a hero but you get to see this very broken and entitled person struggling. She really hates everyone but that’s not what she can show because that’s now who she wants to be and it’s such a complicated story arc throughout the season that we see the cracks grow and it’s told so subtlety but perfectly. And this is only the tip of the iceberg with how deep this old southern lady is.
Without this defining feature, she’d just be a badass southern lady but with it she becomes so much more just adding to this brilliant story building up all season until her boot episode. Her masking her real personality just makes her a much more complex character and when we see these glimpses of it, you start to realize, ohhh this is the person I’m supporting.
Even on top of the mask, there is so much more to Jane’s character…
Grief
When you watch Nicaragua for the first time, this part of her character is not inherently obvious. Grief?!? What are you talking about? She just seems like a badass until she’s a bitter old hag for being the target. While, yes that’s a very simplified version of this, there’s so much more to dissect there. The grieving of her husband, greatly plays a role in her story, and although it’s sometimes subtle you can see how it play into it so beautifully well.
In her very first confessional, what do we see Jane say?
“They think I'm some middle aged housewife that tootles around the house all day long, they’re in for a big surprise. Because that is definitely not me. I'm fifty-six years old and I'm the type person that stays busy all the time doing things. I just don't think there's anything I can't do. Winning the million dollars is real important to me ‘cause it’ll help me pay off my farm and the fact that I lost my husband, uh, in '09, it-it-it means I wouldn't have to work as hard as I do. But his spirit, I know is still with me and that's what keeps me going.”
Her husband obviously is impacting her mentally during this season, and we see this throughout the game. Every Time somebody makes a gesture that they want her out, her personal viper just breaks out. This is because she knows this is getting in the way of her dream, and the spirit of her husband that made her want to do this and she’s not letting anybody take that from her.
She’s still grieving and wants to win for her husband, and it is a very sweet story but sadly it takes a dark turn as she starts using this as entitlement for her to win. She believes she’s obligated to be brought to the end because of who she is and the loss of her husband and yeah, it’s dark but damn is it good when you think about it.
This is also why the family visit is SO important to her story in her boot episode. Right when her daughter, Ashley gets there, she starts talking about her husband and how Ashley is the one she is doing this for, to help her. This is WHO SHE IS FIGHTING FOR!
That is why it hits so hard when everyone flips on her! How dare they! She thinks. These people are voting me out right after I fought my hardest to give my daughter a better life?!? She’s one of the only I have left, this is disgusting. It’s so sad but at the same time it’s brilliantly shown not told. And what do you know, when Jane is talking about Sash’s mama raising him, she immediately brings up her daughter, just ugh how perfect does it round back to her family and her grief with loss.
Now obviously, does that make her outrage justified, I don’t know, maybe? Is she still kind of a bitch? probably! Is she a badass? Probably! That leads me to my next point.
Perspective
If you have read a lot of my other writeups on Nicaragua you would have noticed I love to talk about the perspective a lot of these characters receive on the season. Complimenting how diverse they can be seen depending on your morals or values. No character represents this better than Jane Bright.
How do I know this? Well let’s look at her placements in Rankdowns Past:
SRI - 485/501 - Seen as a bitchy, entitled, worse version of NaOnka, and someone who went way too personal in the game.
SRII - 455/537 - Seen as annoying and sour, forced fan favorite edit not giving her the trashing she deserved by the other tribemates.
SRIII - 549/575 - Seen as a narcissist and self-righteous, below the belt remarks and “a human embodiment of a rash” (that made me laugh a bit).
SRIV - 518/615 - Seen as an ultimately fascinating character, who got a dishonest edit that didn’t show her true side until the end. Ultimately ending up as an unlikable “venomous bitch” who somehow won fan favorite.
SRV - 108/653 - Seen as a great T.V personality whose kooky first half and vigorous 2nd half make for a good story and uplifts everyone around her while also being a great character.
SRVI - 127/731 (Had to be idoled to get here though smh) - Seen as a badass challenge competitor who is actually sour, who unfairly attacked Marty and is a bit too much when it comes to her toxic side to make her slightly less good.
SRVII - 185/767 - Seen as an extremely authentic personality and very entertaining to the chaos of Nicaragua, as well as having an iconic rivalry with Marty, being an iconic mother.
See the difference between one half and the other? Yeah, that shows just how well of a character she is edited as. She has so many times where she is shown to be a hero but juxtaposed with so many times she is shown as an asshole and it works off each scene perfectly. This is why we get such a difference of opinion and I think it’s told so well to where most people don’t even see it.
You have to weigh her good and bad and see based on your morals, if she’s a good person or not, and how acceptable or right was she for her constant hatred of others? I really love that as they aren’t trying to make you think a specific feeling about her. You need to come up with that conclusion yourself on how you think she is, that’s why she won the fan favorite vote in 2011 but today many call her an entitled bitch. (And yeah, she is but that’s a lot of what makes her so amazing).
Her kicking ass in challenges and being a lively spirit contrasted to her nasty demeanor to Jill and especially Marty personally attacking them and her boot episode meltdown, contribute to making one of the most wishy-washy characters when it comes to people’s opinions on her. I don’t what to be told how to feel, I want to come up with it on my own, and I feel like a lot of that has been lost in recent years of Survivor and seeing Jane and having all these different perspectives on her personality just adds so much life.
There is a reason why so many people despise her and so many people love her, she’s just edited that well to where people have had to come up with their own feelings about Jane. Not being coerced to feel a certain way, and I feel that is the best way to edit a character. What you see is what you see, not an objective stance the show is trying to put onto you, and I feel all of Nicaragua shows this but Jane is the prime example. Perspective means everything with her.
This makes her one of the most complex characters of all time, she’s either a broken woman seeking admiration, an entitled bitch, or a badass southern lady who is an inspiration. It’s all based on what you value and isn’t that what Survivor is all about, a social experiment where you weigh your values and personalities with each other to build a society.
Speaking of building a society, how is Jane’s relationships with the cast, well let’s see her main stars:
Sash: Jane and Sash’s dynamic isn’t really shown and I think that actually helps her and Sash’s story. Sash is sleazy and doesn’t really make any genuine connections and we see that in her breakdown scene. When you watch the moment she learns she’s going home and the confessional she gives, you see a direct tone shift from how she talks about Chase and how she talks about Sash. When she’s almost crying about Chase and his betrayal, she is outright vile and nasty when talking about Sash. Showing this major lack of connection between them, that she never saw him as a friend and will not hold back from releasing her rage on him.
Chase: Jane and Chase’s connection is one for the books. Both being from North Carolina and being southern types, they instantly bond and feel close to each other. Their relationship just feels more special than anyone else’s that season, that’s what makes the betrayal so much more entertaining. You literally see her about to cry over Chase, they really were close and got to know each other and just to have him stab her in the back, it’s so good. It just felt special but it wasn’t enough for him to not cut her…
Now how could you talk about relationships and not bring up Jane’s defining one…
Fartay:
Come on! This rivalry is one of if not the best rivalry in all of Survivor. They just despise each other and really are either of them in the right? Not at all, that’s what makes it so great. Marty’s a sleazeball, cocky, and a smart ass while Jane’s an entitled, bitter, old lady and they just work so well off each other. You just have personal jab after personal jab that is just so entertaining and perfectly helps tell Jane’s story.
There is really no reason why they should hate each other as much as they do but their walks of life and personalities just clash so hard that you still understand why they hate each other. Jane takes everything Marty does to heart without any grain of salt, and it makes her reactions so visceral and truly legendary. It’s what makes Jane the Jane we love to love or love to hate!
Now, I think it’s time to talk about the pinnacle of Jane. Her magnum opus if you will… her boot episode.
The Wrath of Jane Will Break Out Tonight
This is one of my favorite episodes of Reality TV. Everything about it is perfect and told in such a way to where it’s the perfect ending for such a broken character.
Building her up with her daughter coming during the family visit, talking about her and how much she wants to provide for her. Having a seed planted in Jane’s brain after she’s not taken to the reward thinking she was entitled to be brought.
Fabio winning immunity, throwing everything for a loop, just when Jane’s attitude has really started to shift and then we get to the scene. Which personally is my favorite scene in all of Survivor without a doubt. The scene where the alliance tells her it has changed and she’s going home is so brilliant. The raw awkwardness and silence next to Jane’s utter disbelief and anger. After she flips them off it is followed by again my favorite confessional of all time.
This is what she has been building up to, everything just falls about when she believed she deserved to win. Having such raw and unfiltered emotions where she’s about to break down and cry and then the turn to anger and fury bringing Sash’s mother into it, talking about how she raised a damn liar. (WITH THAT HEAD COCK THOUGH) All with very subtle sound effects or just no music at all until she gets up and makes one last hoorah by pouring water on the fire. “I started and I put it out” 🔥🔥🔥
Then we get to tribal, where Jane is just done with the bullshit and just calls everyone out for being liars and backstabbers. “The writings on the wall Fabio!” Like come on, that is TV gold, followed by the vote having Chase and Sash “cowardly” play their idols sticking it to Jane when she is already at her lowest by not even having her vote count. She leaves bitter and broken, not the happy ending she felt she deserved.
Mortgage Gate
I’m putting this here because that’s where it best fits, and this is brief because it doesn’t really affect my rankings on Jane because it’s not in the season.
I wish they did show this though, as having this added layer of controversy between Sash and Jane with real world implications would have been amazing, even if what Jane is saying isn’t true it still would’ve shown her as an ass, making up lies just to make someone look worse. I just think it’s such an interesting topic to discuss that I wanted to give it its own section. Sash is sleazy so I wouldn’t pass him to do that, however Jane is extremely bitter and entitled so I could also see her making that up, I guess we'll never really know will we… (I know Marty called the incident fake, but it’s Marty, of course he’s gonna dispute whatever Jane says, if she says the sky is blue, he’ll say it’s orange).
I'm Not Breaking My Tile!
This kind of relates to the mask section of this write up. However, I wanted to talk specifically about Jane’s challenge prowess and wins throughout the season and how much it adds to this arc. Building her up as this badass figure competing against big guys half her age and actually winning?!? It gives an excellent face to the real Jane, having this much courage to go against Chase and Fabio even after winning, not only being such a badass in that moment but showing how she’s trying to play up this persona of old challenge great.
Jane, The Tribe Has Spoken
So in conclusion, you can see that when you really glance over Nicaragua you don’t see Jane as some sort of deep character. However, when you really look into her and her actions and motives you see a broken old lady who is obviously grieving. She is such a deep and complex character that Nicaragua needed to really round out the story.
Jane isn’t supposed to be this likable hero, nor is she supposed to be a villain, she’s not edited as one archetype. However you value your morals, is how you will see Jane and even if you find her an ass, you have to admit they tell it very well. She’s also objectively entertaining, her rivalry with Marty, her being badass during challenges, cooking fish in the woods, her boot episode meltdown, and so much more are just so iconic to me and make this season what it is.
This write up obviously won’t sway everybody, but I hope that if you rewatch Nicaragua, take a closer look at Jane and her actions and see how it lines up with somebody like Rupert or Coach who are much more prevalent when it comes to these “entitled, broken, facade” archetypes. You will see a brilliant story of grief, hatred, entitlement, and a fake persona that the show knows she is trying to present.
Personally, Jane will always be one of my favorite characters of all time with amazing scenes and a story almost as complex as Ian’s. She didn’t win this rankdown, but she won my heart and has definitely earned herself a #1 spot on my rankings for this endgame.

Met through a friend (her best guy friend’s college roommate) the day before she had to fly out to her dad’s memorial, a doctor, into meditation, remembered him “being cuter” when they went on a first date, felt “the spark”, had “omg this is awesome sex”, Ali described this relationship as a “slow burn” and “the most attracted she ever been to a partner” even thought she didn’t think he was that cute in the beginning, dated 2-3 months before he tried to ghost Ali but they talked and broke up, four months later they start casually dating/FWB because he’s moving but this turns into a ‘middle distance relationship’ and he moves to Philly, had a lot of communication issues but didn't have a lot of fights, wants to live in Ohio and give a % of his income to charity, Ali was close to saying ‘I love you’ but didn’t, he uninvited her to meet his extended family and they got in a fight, broke up with her a couple weeks before their 6 month anniversary at the park while on a picnic and told her that she’s still his favorite person, Ali used to think he was “the one that got away” and would frequently have dreams about him. 2017 or 2018ish, from San Diego, went on one date, Ali ended up ghosting him due to the decline in her dad’s health, saw him on Hinge while she was in San Diego for 3 months in 2020, texted him and apologized for ghosting him, ended up going on 2-3 more dates, took a selfie in front of his house and sent it to him but acted like she didn’t know that was his house and made a TikTok about it, things ended up not working but she doesn’t make it clear on who ended it. She can now see she shouldn’t have been going on dates during this time when her dad was sick.

Andddd I stopped listening to the podcast around the Dr. Pie Laundry Guy but have stayed up to date with everything via this sub.
I have a huge interest in dating culture, human behavior and data similar to Ali and this little project of mine was really interesting once I got the framework of this list. I started this list once I found this sub in December 2023 and started re listening to the Patreon while working out (and lost 10 lbs ayeee) and writing down information in my notes app. I did my best to keep this list unbiased and just give facts and information that was said.
My own thoughts after making this list is that I'm very sad for Ali. I didn't realize the extent of her dating history. I think about my own dating history or even my friends who are in their 30's and dating and Ali's dating lore runs so deep. Is Ali unlucky with love? Did she pass on someone that could have been great for her? How has she had so many dates with little success in a long term partner or even going beyond 6-8 dates? Or is Skyline the person she has been waiting for? What's the pattern with all this dates/men? So many questions.
I truly do hope Ali finds her guy because I believe theres someone for everyone. Until then, I'll be hopping into this sub (cause y'all are too funny and give the best advice) and waiting for Ali to find Mr. Height.

This album felt like a sort of return to form for Joywave, returning to their more comedic social commentary side of lyrical writing. I wish they had done more things like Graffiti Planet and Please Welcome…Joywave, which showed their quirky and unserious side, but I also really enjoyed He’s Back!, it was so stupid!! Swimming in the Glow def my favorite of the album. My biggest gripe with the album is how short it is, but with only one song that I really found as a skip, and quite a few heavy hitters, this ended up becoming another super solid album from our best Rochester boys!!

Business executives including Kind snack company founder Daniel Lubetzky, hedge fund manager Daniel Loeb, billionaire Len Blavatnik and real estate investor Joseph Sitt held a Zoom video call on April 26 with Mayor Eric Adams (D), about a week after the mayor first sent New York police to Columbia’s campus, a log of chat messages shows. During the call, some attendees discussed making political donations to Adams, as well as how the chat group’s members could pressure Columbia’s president and trustees to permit the mayor to send police to the campus to handle protesters, according to chat messages summarizing the conversation.
One member of the WhatsApp chat group told The Post he donated $2,100, the maximum legal limit, to Adams that month. Some members also offered to pay for private investigators to assist New York police in handling the protests, the chat log shows — an offer a member of the group reported in the chat that Adams accepted. The New York Police Department is not using and has not used private investigators to help manage protests, a spokeswoman for City Hall said.
The messages describing the call with Adams were among thousands logged in a WhatsApp chat among some of the nation’s most prominent business leaders and financiers, including former CEO of Starbucks Howard Schultz, Dell founder and CEO Michael Dell, hedge fund manager Bill Ackman and Joshua Kushner, founder of Thrive Capital and brother to Jared Kushner, former president Donald Trump’s son-in-law.
People with direct access to the chat log’s contents supplied them to The Post. They shared the information on the condition of anonymity because the chat’s contents were meant to stay private. Members of the group verified the chat’s existence and their comments.
The chat was initiated by a staffer for billionaire and real estate magnate Barry Sternlicht — who never joined directly, instead communicating through the staffer, according to chat messages and a person close to Sternlicht. In an Oct. 12 message, one of the first sent in the group, the staffer posting on behalf of Sternlicht told the others the goal of the group was to “change the narrative” in favor of Israel, partly by conveying “the atrocities committed by Hamas … to all Americans.”
Israel estimates 1,200 people were killed in Hamas’s Oct. 7 attack. In the months since the war began, the death toll in Gaza has risen above 35,000, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.
The chat group formed shortly after the Oct. 7 attack, and its activism has stretched beyond New York, touching the highest levels of the Israeli government, the U.S. business world and elite universities. Titled “Israel Current Events,” the chat eventually expanded to about 100 members, the chat log shows. More than a dozen members of the group appear on Forbes’s annual list of billionaires; others work in real estate, finance and communications.
Overall, the messages offer a window into how some prominent individuals have wielded their money and power in an effort to shape American views of the Gaza war, as well as the actions of academic, business and political leaders — including New York’s mayor.
“He’s open to any ideas we have,” chat member Sitt, founder of retail chain Ashley Stewart and the global real estate company Thor Equities, wrote April 27, the day after the group’s Zoom call with Adams. “As you saw he’s ok if we hire private investigators to then have his police force intel team work with them.”
Sitt declined to comment through a spokeswoman. A half-dozen prominent members of the group confirmed on the record their participation in the chat. Multiple people familiar with the group confirmed the names of other members. Cypriot Israeli real estate billionaire Yakir Gabay, a chat member, wrote in a statement shared by a spokesperson that he joined the group because he wanted to “share support at a difficult and painful time,” to aid the victims of Hamas attacks and to “try and correct the false and misleading information intentionally spread worldwide to deny or cover up the suffering caused by Hamas.”
Asked about the Zoom meeting with chat group members, the mayor’s office did not address it directly, instead sharing a statement from deputy mayor Fabien Levy noting that New York police entered Columbia’s campus twice in response to “specific written requests” from university leadership. “Any suggestion that other considerations were involved in the decision-making process is completely false,” Levy said. He added, “The insinuation that Jewish donors secretly plotted to influence government operations is an all too familiar antisemitic trope that the Washington Post should be ashamed to ask about, let alone normalize in print.”
Adams demonstrated a willingness to send law enforcement to deal with campus protesters from the beginning. He sent police to Columbia’s campus to disperse pro-Palestinian demonstrators on April 18, at the university’s request — about a day after protesters erected their Gaza solidarity encampment. Officers arrested more than 100 protesters. The mayor has subsequently alleged student activists were affected by “outside influences” — and that police intervention was needed to prevent “children” from being “radicalized.”
Both he and Columbia’s president have since drawn criticism — but also support — for involving police, adding to a fraught stretch for Adams, who is up for reelection in 2025 and faces an FBI corruption investigation into whether his 2021 campaign received illegal donations from Turkey. Adams has defended that campaign, saying he held it to “the highest ethical standards.”
Four days after chat members held the video call with Adams, student protesters occupied a campus building and Columbia’s president invited police back to campus to clear the building. Officers removed and arrested dozens of protesters, pushing, striking and dragging students in the process, The Post reported. One officer accidentally fired his gun.
Months before the protests at Columbia this spring, some chat members attended private briefings with former Israeli prime minister Naftali Bennett; Benny Gantz, a member of the Israeli war cabinet; and Israel’s ambassador to the United States, Michael Herzog, according to chat records.
Members of the group also worked with the Israeli government to screen a roughly 40-minute film showing footage compiled by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) — titled “Bearing Witness to the October 7 Massacre” — to audiences in New York City. The film portrays killings committed by Hamas. A chat member asked for help from other members to show the film at universities; it was later screened at Harvard, a showing chat member Ackman helped facilitate, attended and promoted publicly. Sternlicht declined to comment on the record, although a person close to him — speaking on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the chat group publicly — confirmed the real estate tycoon initiated the chat. Other members of the chat, including Ackman and Schultz, confirmed their membership.
A spokesman said Ackman had not participated in the chat since Jan. 10, adding Ackman never spoke to Adams about the Columbia protests or donated to Adams’s campaign, although Ackman “likes and is supportive of the Mayor.” Joshua Kushner declined to comment.
On Oct. 12, a staffer for Sternlicht relayed a message from his boss outlining the group’s mission: While Israel worked to “win the physical war,” the chat group’s members would “help win the war” of U.S. public opinion by funding an information campaign against Hamas. The campaign was referred to in the chat as "Facts for Peace.”
The news site Semafor reported in November that Sternlicht was launching a $50 million anti-Hamas media campaign with various Wall Street and Hollywood billionaires. The people involved, per Semafor’s reporting, include some members of the WhatsApp chat, a review by The Post found. The chat messages, the contents of which have never before been reported, appear to reveal the start of the campaign, as well as separate pro-Israel activities undertaken later by chat members. It is unclear to what extent the chat group and media campaign overlapped.
Some of the media campaign’s activities were public, including its website, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook and X accounts, which together attracted more than 170,000 followers.
High-level contacts, private briefings
At a moment of rising antisemitism, the staffer for Sternlicht wrote in one of the first chat messages that his boss was proud of his Jewish heritage and wanted to support Israel, but was also concerned about security. Anonymity, the staffer wrote Oct. 12 on Sternlicht’s behalf, “is a practical need and concern for safety of my family in an increasingly complex world.”
The staffer wrote that Sternlicht understood if other members felt similarly and promised that all contributions to the media campaign would remain anonymous. “I’m sensitive to concerns about being less effective if it appears that this is a Jewish initiative,” the staffer wrote, speaking for Sternlicht. From the start of the chat, members sought guidance and information from officials in the Israeli government.
Some of the WhatsApp chat members said in the chat they attended private briefings about the Gaza war with Israeli war cabinet member Gantz, former prime minister Bennett and Herzog, the ambassador. The chat log shows Zoom invites for these meetings.
“Most appreciative for the behind the scenes briefing by Naftali Bennett,” Schultz, the former CEO of Starbucks, wrote to the group on Oct. 16. “Quite extraordinary!”
Bennett did not respond to a request for comment. Gantz could not be reached for comment. A spokesperson for the Israeli Embassy in Washington said the briefing Herzog gave chat members was “one of dozens” the ambassador delivered that month, adding that “communities here in the U.S. understandably wanted to learn more about what was happening on the ground in Israel.”
A spokesperson for Schultz confirmed in a statement that he attended the briefing with Bennett, but said Schultz “did not participate in, or contribute financially to, any of the group’s work.” Schultz was neither involved in discussions about Adams and the Columbia protests nor screenings of the film, according to a spokesman.
In late October, the chat records show, chat members appear to have suggested to Israeli officials they should hold a private New York City screening for media of “Bearing Witness,” the IDF film featuring graphic footage recorded by Hamas gunmen on body cameras and cellphones as they attacked Israel. Sitt wrote in a message to the group on Oct. 27 that Israeli officials wanted to thank them “for coming up with the concept of the press event in NYC.”
The next month, the group showed the film in New York, records show. Sitt wrote on Nov. 10 that the Israeli government “arranged for us” to screen the film in Gotham Hall on Nov. 17, adding in a later message the showing “will be listed as a IDF event not affiliated to Facts for Peace to keep them separate.”
In ensuing months, group members wrote in the chat to flag news articles or social media posts about Israel, events in Gaza or, later, college campus protests.
‘So NYPD can return’ Columbia students first set up an encampment April 17, eventually leading some Jewish students to allege the protests had forged a hostile and harassing atmosphere. Police stepped in to clear the encampment at the Columbia president’s request on April 18, arresting more than 100 demonstrators.
In the chat, discussion of how Adams was handling the Columbia protests — and how group members could help — took off the following day, after student protesters built a new encampment to replace the demolished one.
Lubetzky, of the snack company Kind, posted in the chat sharing a link to an Instagram video showing an Israeli Arab journalist getting hit by a man the video caption claims is an “anti-Israel protester.” Not long after, billionaire Blavatnik posted a picture of Adams and wrote, “He needs help.”
Sitt responded that he had already “been helping but can use more support.” He asked if others were “open to giving” to Adams.
Gabay, the Cypriot Israeli real estate billionaire, replied: “Pls send the info. Thanks.” Then Blavatnik posted an ActBlue link allowing donations to the Eric Adams 2025 committee.
Lubetzky messaged: “If there is a group to contribute through, or a way to ensure our contributions are known to be related to his efforts to fight antisemitism and hate, pls let us know and I will support meaningfully alongside you guys.” Sitt replied that he was arranging a “code” for such donations; asked about this message, Vito Pitta, counsel to Adams’s 2025 campaign, said “there is no ‘special code’ for contributions.”
A spokeswoman for Blavatnik said he contributed $2,100 to Adams’s reelection campaign in April. She said the donation was given “to endorse Mayor Adams’ stalwart support of Israel and firm stand against antisemitism.”
Spokespeople for Lubetzky, Sitt and Gabay said they did not donate to Adams. Loeb declined to comment.
In the chat, discussion turned to the fact that Columbia had to grant Adams permission before he could send city police to the campus.
One member asked if the group could do anything to pressure Columbia trustees to cooperate with the mayor. In reply, former congressman Ted Deutch (D-Fla.), CEO of the American Jewish Committee, shared a PDF of a letter his organization had sent that day to Columbia President Minouche Shafik calling on her to “shut these protests down.”
“Also in touch with the board,” Deutch wrote to the chat group.
“So NYPD can return.”
Asked for comment, a spokeswoman for Deutch wrote in an email to The Post that the American Jewish Committee “values all opportunities to engage with various individuals and institutions who support the Jewish people and the State of Israel.” Asked about the chat group and its activities, a Columbia spokesperson wrote, “We have no knowledge of this.”
A Zoom video call with chat group members and Adams took place a little after 11 a.m. April 26, according to chat records.
It is unclear how many members attended the meeting, which lasted for roughly 45 minutes, chat records show. Those present included at least Blavatnik, Sitt, Loeb and Lubetzky, according to the chat logs.
Sitt wrote minutes after the call ended to summarize items “discussed today,” including donating to Adams, using group members’ “leverage” to help persuade Columbia’s president to let New York police back on campus and paying for “investigative efforts” to assist the city.
Lubetzky replied listing concrete actions group members should take. These included resharing a link to offer financial support to Adams, calling and writing to Columbia’s president and board of trustees, and “getting Black Leaders to condemn Anti-Semitism.” He named several people he would contact and asked if anyone in the group knew Jay-Z, LeBron James or Alicia Keys.
Asked about his comments, Lubetzky wrote in a statement to The Post that “building bridges between the Black and Jewish communities … is more important than ever.”
Blavatnik, through a spokeswoman, confirmed he attended the Zoom with Adams but said he did not “participate in a conversation about private investigators and is unaware of discussions related to that subject.” The spokeswoman noted other people on the Zoom said things Blavatnik “did not weigh in on or agree with.” She said the billionaire, a Columbia alumnus and donor, only joined the Zoom to understand how Adams “was thinking about the Columbia protests.”
The evening after the call, Sitt shared the ActBlue link for donations to Adams’s 2025 committee.
The chat does not record who donated money to Adams nor how much. The New York City Campaign Finance Board website shows donations sent only up to January of this year; more recent donations will not become public until July.
Pitta, the Adams campaign lawyer, said the campaign had not received donations from Lubetzky, Loeb, Sitt or Gabay. He confirmed Blavatnik had donated but did not respond to questions asking about the timing of Blavatnik’s donation.
A day after the April 26 Zoom with Adams, Loeb wrote the chat group to share reflections on what transpired during the call. He wrote that it was “a sad state that we feel the need to grovel to ask our elected officials to do their jobs.” He added, “I’ll be grateful when the perpetrators are dragged off campus.”
Police returned to Columbia on April 30, arresting dozens of demonstrators who had occupied a university building. Columbia President Shafik had requested law enforcement’s aid in a letter, writing that the takeover of Hamilton Hall raised “serious safety concerns.” She asked police to remain on campus at least through May 17.
The morning afterward, Adams gave a news conference summarizing the action. “We went in and conducted an operation,” he said, “to remove those who have turned the peaceful protests into a place where antisemitism and anti-Israel attitudes were pervasive.”

A person close to Sternlicht said he decided to shutter the group because the activities were moving beyond the initial objectives and the people who started it — including himself — were no longer actively participating, and hadn’t been for months.
“We are incredibly grateful for the dialogue and support that this group has provided over the past 7 months,” wrote a staffer for Sternlicht. The staffer wrote that members should not hesitate to reach out if they needed anything.
“We are stronger together,” the staffer wrote in closing.

I suppose it's really frustrating for people new to Portland to look around and see this city in such an ongoing crisis all the time, with bad news after bad news. Homelessness, cops, schools, the governor, now even PSU students! Whatever direction this city goes it manages to hit a crisis. Worse still, any glimmer of hope produced by the political machine and their media cronies end up resulting in virtually nothing changing.
Bleak outlook, crisis, no solution, bleak outlook.
Why is this? The city, county, and state government are run by a bunch of corrupt fuckwits with really dumb ideas, and there hasn't been a genuine change in political power for coming on 40 years.
Why does nothing change for the better? Well, in part it's because a crisis means there is money to be made by a small few. The worse the crisis gets the more money that becomes available. When roads get worse somehow PBOT gets more money, when homelessness gets worse the homeless advocates get more money, when schools get worse the schools get more money, when graffiti gets bad the graffiti clean-up crews get more money. This creates a financial incentive to make everything worse, and if your job is to "fix it" you get a promotion, more staff & money if you don't actually fix it.
But honestly, I don't want to give our regional bureaucrats too much credit, most are simply too incompetent to see this bad feedback loop for what it is. They're not working hard to make things worse, they're just sitting back on their asses and getting promoted.
Could there be an alternatives? Yes: your fire the people who didn't fix it with the resources given, rather than giving them more money, but that's uncouth in Portland, because so many political appointments and people running the show have little fiefdoms of political favors.
It's fair to look around and see that it all seems completely helpless across the city and we're out of good ideas on how to fix it.
One has to wonder: is there anyone who knows what caused all of these problems or how to fix it?
Yes, there are plenty of very smart people, a ignored and hated class of intellectuals, journalists, and academics, who are completely aware of the problems we're experiencing now, forecasted these problems before they happened, and have ample ways to resolve the issues ahead of us. Mostly be repealing the dumb fucking policies that got us here.
I'd like to label this group of rejected people the Cassandra Class. In Greek mythology Cassandra was a princess who was given the ability to see the future by the god Apollo, and yet also cursed that no one would ever believe her prophecies.
As an example of this Cassandra Class is Dr. Gerard Mildner. He's from PSU's Center for Real Estate and has dutifully recorded the policies related to our disaster of a housing policy, cutting out the noxious horseshit from the lunatics, and has been very accurate and insightful for long past a decade. You see, where the city is at with housing policy (where everything is fucked) is not by mere accident, but through really bad ideas enacted as policy by worthless government bureaucrats at Metro, the Counties, City of Portland, and the State. Many of these policies were intentionally enacted by dumb people wrapped up in a dumb ideology, thinking these were immaculate big brain plans from the smartest people.
I can't say I agree with Dr. Mildner on absolutely everything he's ever written, but let us consider his 2014 paper:

"Density At Any Cost"

This paper was a prophecy so shocking and vile that Metro took the time to repudiate it, Portland Commissioners denounced it, fellows at PSU disparaged him.
Imagine you write a paper and the government labels it "misinformation." "The report, titled "Density at Any Cost," said that the region's current land use planning policies will make it unaffordable to live in the Portland region." When government vehemently opposes an opinion from an accredited professional it's probably worth understanding that opinion because the opinion is likely just embarrassing to the government's own interest, they wouldn't deny something if there was no sense of truth to it.
What did Dr. Mildner warn us about 10 years ago? That Metro was going to create the situation we're in today. You see, Metro's core job is to manage the Urban Growth Boundary. The UGB is a relatively simple policy where urban growth is meant to be constrained to prevent sprawl, but by artificially constraining buildable land it could create a price bubble - so this policy evenly balances out the artificial constraint on land with a requirement that Metro must keep a 20-year supply of buildable land. The lynch pin of success for the Urban Growth Boundary is not about constraining development, but instead forecasting it's inevitable expansion.

Metro began doing forecasts of the 20-year buildable supply with a new model. The model that Metro adopted, called Metroscope, completely ignores people's economic choices, presuming that you'll ALWAYS prefer to live and work in the metro area no matter what it costs. That people have no preference at all for any lifestyle their housing offers: that you would see no difference in an apartment in the middle of the city or single family home in the suburbs. It's all the same according to Metro.
Metro completely pulled from their ass an "unbelievable" goal of constructing way less single family homes going into the future. They presumed that 64% of new construction would be multi-family, instead of the historic trend of 15%-30%, or a more reasonable bench mark of 40%. Metro assumed in 2014 that City of Portland will absorb 60% of new housing construction needs, of which 92% would be multi-family.
That Metro's plan will cause rent to more than double. (Dr. Mildner wrongly predicted the rate of climb, as it's been much more dramatic, he thought rent in 2035 for an individual would be just $765/month, whereas today in 2024 it's likely near $800-$1,000)
That housing costs will increase dramatically, "An increase of 148% over 20 years would mean a median house price of $719,000 in 2035." (today it's at $525k)
This rising housing cost would make us one of the most expensive Cities in the country, and yet we don't have any industry to match that cost of living increase, and Metro has no concern about jacking up cost of living while there's no industry increasing our wages to match.
Low income household and new home buyers will be fucked the hardest, and even for existing homeowners they won't get any financial gains until they leave Portland behind by selling their home. Basically if you buy a home here in 2002, sell it in 2016, you might see on paper huge increases in value (suppose home value went up 300%), but all the same, whatever next home you want to buy in Portland also increased 300%. You're not increasing wealth 300%, you're increasing buying/selling costs across the whole marketplace - you can't realize your actual 300% increase in wealth until you move to a new city that didn't increase housing prices by 300%.
Metro banked on a hollow promise from the Richard Florida school of faux-economics that everyone would sell their cars, and while transit usage would dramatically increase, somehow cost to utilize transit would decrease 18% less on transit. No one predicted the dramatic increase in Work From Home and how that would impact transit and commuting. Either way, TriMet had fares increase from $2.40 in 2012 to $2.80 today, ridership in 2019 was the same as 2006 despite billions spent on "improving" the system, and those "improvements" caused system costs to soar from $392m/yr in 2014 to $647m/yr in 2023). Metro was promising that these transit costs would decrease, somehow.
This whole plan by Metro depends upon billions of dollars in subsidies for private developers - tax-payer subsidies that the public will never see the benefit of thanks to the legal limits on increases to property taxes. The City of Portland will experience a financial crisis funding apartments that don't increase our tax base. You see, we pay taxes based upon the "assessed value" which is capped by Oregon law from increasing more than 3% each year unless there's a substantial change to the property - if Metro drops $10 million improving your neighborhood your property taxes can't increase more than 3%. Though if you sell your home and move out of Portland you pocket the money caused by this urban renewal bubble.
Everything Metro is doing is more of an aspirational plan than a pragmatic policy to manage the larger city's growth responsibly. Most of this plan is based on climate change concepts about carbon emissions that were shortsighted and won't pan out. The best way to actually tackle strategic carbon emission reduction would come from building new energy efficient single family homes that people will actually want to live in. Instead, once all of this Metro plan is in full swing, people will relocated to other states with more severe weather (hello, Austin!) and due to geography their new homes output much more carbon emissions thanks to more HVAC energy needs. If our society earnestly wanted to reduce carbon emissions then a primary goal would be to get huge portions of the population to move to mild climates like Portland, which means attracting people to Portland through low cost housing and good jobs.

This last point is particularly salient. It's simple and predictable economics that if we jack up the price to live in Blue States, working class and middle class people will opt to live elsewhere. And no doubt, South Carolina, Florida, Texas (all places with a population boom) - red states not enacting climate change policies. If you want to win this climate change battle you have to make places that enact better climate change policies more attractive. If you could live in a place with affordable homes, great schools, safe communities, clean streets, friendly people - then taxes on the middle class to service "climate change" are a secondary consideration.
To really illustrate this: very few people would care about Portland's Clean Energy Fund if the business community was booming. Yet we let the tweakers and the violent mentally ill convicts run amok, we refuse to build infrastructure people want to use, we refuse to build houses that people want to buy - so bye bye businesses, bye bye clean energy funding, bye bye to the dream of a climate change utopia. If Climate Change is really the number one issue, convincing people to live in places with climate change friendly policies (and milder climates) ought to be high on the priority list - but it's about as high on the list as getting elected members of Congress and Taylor Swift to stop using private jets. Climate doomers clearly have fuckall idea what they're doing or why - very much illustrated by the same college kids today thinking that taking over a college library helps someone in Palestine. That level of cognitive reasoning. If activists today had actual legitimacy and urgency underlying their motivations they would have more effort into measured outcomes - instead their lack of effectiveness is very telling about the legitimacy of their motivation.

Here we are today 10 years later.

It takes $160,000/yr in annual salary to buy a median home in Portland. More than the $140k/yr that the new City Commissioners will make, more than the County Commissioners make.
All of this could have been avoided by merely listening to people who aren't political hacks with jobs in Urban Planning departments.
And while it wasn't covered in 2014 paper there's many the subsequent prophecies of housing prices that weren't detailed in this paper but were well understood: higher housing prices means higher rent, higher rent means more homeless. Higher housing prices means people will move further away from the urban core and this will cause traffic congestion because the workers can't access mass transit even if they wanted to. Most people have long forgotten that prior to 2019 one of the biggest concerns for residents was traffic problems, the root of the traffic problem is our Urban Growth Boundary. The UGB also created enormous amounts of sprawl, it was just hidden outside the eyes of hapless Urban Planning dingbats at PSU - for example, North Plains is doubling it's size - that's sprawl - to accommodate people that would happily buy a home in North Bethany if they could afford one. Benton County, Oregon has roughly 50,000 workers, and 15% of them were commuting 85 miles to Portland on a regular basis. If you figure that's approximately 7,000 vehicles - that alone is enough to fill out a 3-lane highway for 1 hour - and that's how you get I-5 to be a clusterfuck. If you don't want traffic problems, it's got to make economic sense to have people live and work closer to the city, but because Metro broke housing prices, at least 15% of Corvallis's workforce can't afford to live in Portland but has to work here.
All of the problems and follies we're experiencing are thanks to hapless fools in government. A broken bankrupt ideology has captivated this city, and it's been unchecked in political growth thanks to the dominance of a single political party. Like a pathogen, these terrible ideas coming out of Urban Studies departments, all of them creating self-referencing circles of success for their Big Brain ideas, like San Francisco points to Portland for success, Portland points to Boston for success, Boston points to San Francisco - a big circle jerk of city planners pretending their ideas were successful. Local media goes to these "experts" in Metro to hear fake statistics based upon bad plans, and the media then informs the public how wonderful our political leaders are.
The public looks around, sees the crisis in their own eyes, and forms a bleak outlook.

Hey guys! So as some may know, the trailer for the 10th episode of Disventure Camp All Stars has dawned upon us. And with that, came a lot of speculation of who is going to be the next one eliminated. For this list, I'm going to account for both the strategy in the show, and from a writing perspective looking at plotlines and all. Keep in mind that this list is mostly just speculation, and I won't be surprised if this ends up wrong in a week. But I just want to make this into a good and fun discussion. (I also added a list in the bottom of the post if you don't want to hear me ramble lol) So, let's get on to the least likely characters to be eliminated. And that spot will go to....
....both Gabby and Grett.
Now, I decided to talk about these two together since not only was it tough to decide between the two, but also these characters are currently in a similar position writing wise. Both Gabby and Grett have been noticeably absent in terms of major plotlines for the majority of the teams phase, especially in Gabby's case. In fact, Grett has currently less lines of dialogue than Ellie and Tess, both of which were recently eliminated. However, both of them have been very prominent in the last couple of episodes, with Grett having the plot of being more confident, and Gabby's plot of joining the villain alliance, so highly unlikely that the writers will just shaft these plots as fast as they were introduced. In addition, it's pretty likely that a non-Villain's Alliance will go home, due to the possible instability of the heroes and the lack of a returning player. So, with all of that being said, I believe Grett and Gabby are the least likely to go home. As for who I'd pick as less likely, I'd go for Grett as her major plot was introduced more recently, so it's less likely for her to go home because of that. So Grett is number 10 on the list, while Gabby is number 9.
Next up is someone who will probably groan at, but I'm putting Yul at 8th place. Now, I know a lot of people are made at Yul, and for valid reasons, since he is a scumbag. However, he still does have some things going for him that put him this low on the list.
For starters, like Gabby and Grett, Yul is a villain alliance member and thus, has a net of safety to him. In addition, I think Yul is the most likely to win immunity this challenge aside from Riya, since Yul is such an obvious target that I think, the writers would like to get rid of to subvert expectations. In addition, I just think Yul staying longer could result in a more satisfying downfall for him. When you think about it, Grett would need some time to deliver the "The Reason Why You Suck" type speech to Yul. And having the tension built up over the episodes to finally end for Yul to get out in a deserving way would just be much more satisfying for the fans to see. And hey, who wouldn't pass up a chance to see Yul suffer?
Next up was kind of a hard pick, but I'm having the 7th place spot be Alec. For him, it's sort of the same points as before, like the Villain Alliance and all that. But I'm putting him higher than Yul for one reason. Jared's tweet about some early eliminations being shocking. Aside from the LT characters, Alec is probably the most prominent characters story-wise, as well as him being a popular choice on which character should make it to the finale, so him hypothetically going home early would be shocking to the fandom at large. But despite that, Alec is still high on the list because of his strong position in the game, and the fact that he has a potential plotline of him realizing that he treats his son terribly, or at least we could know more of his backstory. But it could also be a chance that plotline could be forgotten as it has arguably happened to others.
As for our last spot in the lower 5 on the list, is Ally at 6th place. Now, hypothetically, all of the five villains should be the lower 5 spots, but I have my reasons as to why Ally is here instead of Riya.
To start off, out of all of the heroes, the Villains Alliance has the least incentive to eliminate her as there are no real reason to go after her compared to the rest of heroes, as the rest are much bigger targets. But the main reason why she is so low on the list is because out of all the remaining S2 competitors, she is most likely to represented in the finale for S2. And considering her desire to prove herself to people, it would be a pretty empowering move to have her place the highest of everyone from her original season that were in All-Stars. In addition, it also supports the notion of Yul staying this episode to subvert expectations on just how far the S2 characters will go. It is also likely that she will get more plot in the future similar to Gabby and Grett.
Now for the higher 5 of the 10 players, Riya will be starting us out, coming in 5th place. I explained the reason why Ally was placed above her, but another point against her is the fact that she is one of two people remaining that was a previous finalist. Now there was some discourse on whether DC would follow this rule that TD started, but I think they are better off by doing so, since doing that would give the opportunity for new character to shine. Now I want to address the allegation that she is the one winning immunity in EP10, due to her smiling at the elimination ceremony. While this is a likely event, which is also why she only 5th on the list as well as her being in the villain alliance, she could also smile at the potential opportunity to see someone she hates to go home, someone like Aiden, so it is not entirely sure that she will win the paintball challenge. And with her potentially playing a bigger role in Grett or even Alec's plots, is a reason why she isn't any lower.
We meet once again I suppose. Now for my most controversial pick, Jake is only at 4th place out of the 10, and the one who actually inspired this list to be made. Now, I am aware that Jake is declared the most likely character to go home due to his poor position in the game and his impulsive attitude, especially since that most of his scenes in the trailer are shown to have Jake acting angry. Beware that I will try to be as objective as possible, but I'm kinda coping right now since Jake is one of my favs in DC, but I do have some valid points as to why he might not go home this time.
First off, it makes sense from a strategic standpoint for the Villains Alliance to keep him around. As Ellie said, "He's predictable and easy to manipulate." and clearly some of the villains like Yul and Alec noticed those traits. So, from their view, I would see getting rid of strong player now as a way more effective strategy, as Jake could potentially cause more chaos between the heroes. But I also think it makes sense from a writing standpoint to keep him as similar to Grett, a new plotline of him being kept in check has arrived. The major difference between the two is that Jake has had WAY more focus than Grett, which puts him more at risk. I have also seen the argument that Jake could follow a similar road to Gabby in S1, where they both had a huge focus in pre-merge while being an early merge boot. However, I have also seen a counter argument in which Aiden has been prominent in both pre-merge and merge. In terms of where I land, as much I love Jake, I would say he is most likely to follow in Gabby's footsteps, since S1 and All Stars are a lot closer in writing style and elimination order style compared to S2. But that doesn't necessarily mean that Jake will be the first merge boot compared to Gabby in S1, just that he will be an early merge boot, which I'll honestly be fine with as long as they do his character justice. Similar to Yul, I do think that Odd Nations is trying to keep the viewers on their toes by showing Jake a lot in the trailer to get people talking about him. But yeah, I can't help but agree with a lot of points people made. His bad social game and early prominence is what puts him so high on the list.
Okay, Top 3 time! And coming in 3rd place, is Aiden. And yes, Aiden is higher on the list than Jake, sue me. Now, as for Aiden, I have grown a bit towards him, and I do believe he has SOME potential for more plot, but yeah, Aiden has a lot going against him. He is a former finalist, he is not a part of the villain's alliance, has a HUGE rivalry with one of the members, and without the LT, he doesn't have much going on. But similar to Riya, there is a possibility that the finalist restriction may not apply. And there is one bigger reason why he is not #1, which I'll touch on later.
Now, we have gotten to the two most likely characters to go home, being Ashley and Tom. Out of both however.....
Ashley will be taking number 1, while Tom will be 2nd. Yeah, I'm shocked. Ashley is somehow more likely to be eliminated than Yul and all three characters involved in the Love Triangle.
But as for her and Tom, both have a lot of reasons to be out. Not in the Villain Alliance, huge challenge threats, both are arguably running thin in terms of plot relevance in the game, and personalities than can lessen the chaos of the heroes. But what puts Ashley above Tom in my opinion, is that Ashley's elimination could potentially be felt on a greater scale than Tom, and I do believe there is one big reason why she can be targeted. The reason being Jake and Ally, especially Jake. Think about it, Ashley is basically the glue that not only Jake, but the former Magenta members together. So, I could see a perceptive member like Alec to notice that. Then, the villains agree to vote Ashley off and eliminate her to weaken Jake and the rest of the heroes. Speaking of him, Ashley's elimination would essentially be the ultimate test of Jake's development throughout the season. As she is no longer there to help, and he has pretty much no allies in the game aside from potentially Tom or the returnee coming back later, and in order to fix that, he would basically have to apologize to people he antagonized in the past, like Aiden and Ally, which could make for a more compelling story to see unfold. As for Tom and Jake's scene at night, which is obviously going to be the emotional core of the episode, even it could potentially tie into Ashley's elimination. I could see Jake trying to be alone after being sad over Ashley leaving, and then Tom would go to comfort him, and they eventually start talking about their relationship. But really knows?

Original Post: 29th April 2024
Last Tuesday evening I (32F) came home from a being out of town for two weeks for work, my boyfriend (35M) Nate was supposed to pick me up from the airport but once I got in, I wasn't able to get ahold of him and he never showed up, I was a little annoyed but no too worried because I figured he had fallen asleep(When I talked to him earlier that morning he said he didn't sleep very well the night before and was going to lay down before he had to come get me)so I called my sister for a ride home.
When I got home Nate was no where to be found, I checked the garage an his car was gone, so I sent him a text asking where he was and headed up stairs to unpack. When I open the closet to put my things away I saw that almost all of his clothes were gone. At this point I'm confused, so I start calling him it just keeps ringing and then going to voicemail. I check his office and everything is still there, everything in the house is still there and in place except his clothes and his car. I'm really starting to freak out at this point, so I call my sister and she comes over and we both try calling and messaging him and still get no answer. his computer and his laptop are both still in his office, I logged on to his computer and my sister his laptop(I know all his passwords) but we didn't find anything out of the ordinary, so I started searching his desk and found his iPad in the top drawer, I logged into it and checked everything I could think of and found nothing out of the ordinary, my sister suggested checking the find my iPhone app on his iPad to see if we find out where his phone was. We logged into the app and see that his phone was pinging in the next state over, I starting calling him again but still got no answers to my calls or text.
I really start to lose it here, my mind starts going all over the place trying to figure out what could be going on, I called the police because I think someone has to have done something to him. The police came out but they said there wasn't much they could do because he hasn't been gone long and his clothes missing was sign the he left on his own violation.
Over the last few days I've done everything I can to contact him, He doesn't have any family except for a brother that he cut ties with before I met him, I found him online and sent him a message but he said he hasn't seen or heard from Nate in years. I keep checking his phones location and since Saturday morning it has been pinging in the same location in the PNW, I took off work for the rest of the week and my sister and I are flying up there to go to the location his phone is pinging.
Has anyone ever dealt with something like this before? How do I even confront him, what if he is with another woman, what if he isn't there or worse? I am so lost and hurt right now, my mind is all over the place, I can’t think straight, I’m so lost right now.

Edit: Yes I have called or messaged all of his friends, none of them have seen or heard from him, I do have access to his bank account as we have a joint account but not his business account, He last used his debt card Friday night in a town west of Seattle Washington, He owns his own business but has taken a step back over the last year so he doesn't communicate with them regularly, they haven't heard from him since last month.
I am 5 months pregnant and we have known for 3 months, he did become a bit reserved and withdrawn since we found out but its not uncommon for him to do that every so often especially around this time of year. I don't truly believe that he would abandon me and his child, that's just not the type of man he is but I don't know what to think anymore.
small update: first I want say thank you to everyone for suggesting the welfare check epically We called the the department where his phone is pinging and they have sent someone over to see if they can make contact with him.. Its been over an hour and we are still waiting to hear back. I am hopeful but still have a overbearing since of dread. All I want to know right now is that he is ok and I can figure out everything else later, I just need to know he is ok.
UPDATE: The police were able to do a welfare check and although they were unable to make direct contact with him they spoke to the couple who live at the house, they said they were old family friends and that he was there on Friday and Saturday but that he went to the Olympics Sunday morning to go hiking for a couple of days, The officers informed them of what was going on and they told him, they believed he was ok and that they would contact me tonight to try and help explain the situation. What does that even mean? I am even more confused, our flight to Seattle is at 9:45am tomorrow and at this point we are still going, I hope these people do call but its been awhile now and I haven't heard anything.
NEW UPDATE: I think this will be my final update, I have to get ready and get my stuff packed for the flight in the morning, I have just spent the last hour speaking to the couple who house he was at and they against his wishes told me what is going on. They have known Nate since he was 12 years old, he started dating their daughter Ashley when they were in sixth grade and they counited dating all through middle school and high school. Ashley got pregnant toward the end of their senior year and they got engaged. I don't know how to even write this next part, When their son was a 1.5 years old they were involved in an accident with a drunk driver, Nate was ejected from the car and Ashley and his son passed away in the accident, She said that he blames himself for it because according to him they were never supposed to be out that night and it was his fault they were, She said he withdrew from them and everyone else and that up until last Friday that hadn't heard from him since he left. She has offered to come get my sister and I from the airport in the morning and she can try to answer any questions I have while we wait for him to return, She said they know where he is, he is at the spot they spread their ashes, she said he told her that he need be with his son one more time before he let him go... I'm honestly in a total state of shock right now, I don't know what to think but I know he is in pain and I need to get to him and I can figure everything else after.

First I want to say thank you to everyone who reached out and offered your advice and help on the other hand the people who were just mean or all the men who came into my messages, you should be ashamed of yourselves.
We did fly out to Seattle last Tuesday morning. Kathy(the wife of the couple) picked us up from the airport and took us back to their place, on the way there she said her husband was on his way to go find Nate so he could bring him back but it would likely be a few hours before they would arrive back.
As we waited Kathy did her best to answer some of the questions that I had, I knew Nate lost his mom at a young age to breast cancer but she said it had deeply profound effect on him and he became a very troubled child, she said that when him and Ashley met that Nate was in a group home(I did not know this)because he was in a lot of trouble for fighting and drug use(he was 12!) I was kind of taken back by this because I've never know him to do anything besides smoke marijuana from time to time, he doesn't even drink. She said that when they met Ashley immediately took on a role of protector of him, she could feel his pain and she wanted to rescue him from it, when they finally got to know him they decided that they would take Nate in if he wanted that once he was was out of the group home, when he was 16 he finally got out of the group home but was still on probation so he had to live with his dad who was a alcoholic and abusive but he would spend most evenings and weekends at their house, he still got in trouble because he kept failing his U.A. for marijuana but he was no longer getting into fights, he credited Ashley for that and felt like she and her family were the only people besides his mom to ever show him any compassion or love. She asked if I would like to see pictures of them and when she showed me the picture of Nate holding his son for the first time I broke down, because I have never seen him in the six years we have been together with a smile like that, he was so happy, he smiles now from time to time and he is always laughing but I've never seen that smile, that gleam. it just broke me to know that he had been living in that much pain for 15+ years and hid it from everyone. We looked through more pictures and she told more stories. and spoke of how sad she was when he left, we talked for hours and then finally her husband came through the doo but Nate was not with him.
George(Kathy's husband) said that he had found Nate where he was supposed to be and explained that my sister and I were at their house waiting for him. He said when he told him this that Nate laughed and said of course, and that he would head back, he just needed a few more minutes alone.
so we waited for what felt like forever and finally a little over two hours after George arrived back, Nate walked in the front door. He looked at me and the first words out of his mouth were "I should have known my note wouldn't be good enough and that you would come find me, I love you and I am very sorry" I said what note! and he said the one I put in you front seat, he put in my car! I never even thought to check there for anything.
I am going to leave out a lot of this next part because its very personal but I asked him why he would just leave me at the airport and why he wouldn't just call or text me that he was leaving. He said that while I was gone, he wanted to put some of the things that we had gotten for the baby in the nursey and start painting it before I got back and that everything was fine until he started putting together the dresser and the changing station, while he was doing that he was flooded with memories of his son and Ashley and that it actually knocked him off his feet and he broke down, he said every time he closed his eyes he saw them(that's why he couldn't sleep) he said he deiced to take mushrooms to try and help get him out of it(what!) but all that did was make things worse and he realized that he needed to not forget them and not hide them and that he needed to go make peace with them and ask them to forgive him for abandoning their memory. He knew that when I got home that I would obviously know something wasn't right with him and he also didn't know how to tell me he had been hiding a huge part of his past, anyway he expressed how sorry he was and that he understood if all of this was to much and if I didn't want to be with him anymore that he would completely understand. I let him know that as long as he agreed to never hide something from me or disappear again and would agree to go to therapy and couples therapy that I wouldn't be going anywhere. He promised he would do whatever I asked of him. I asked him to fly back with me and my sister called her husband to fly in and they would drive his car back. So we are back home now, he hasn't started therapy yet but has an appointment next week.
Our baby is doing ok and so am I, I just need him to be ok and everything will be good again, anyway thank you again to all the kind hearts who reached out, you gave me a lot of positive vibes in a dark time and I really cant thank you enough for that.

Hey Ashley and Bernie,
I just listened to one of your episodes where you covered the Meme stocks and tweets from DFV. It's always interesting to hear somebody's perspective on the topic that's not been following the reddit posts pretty much daily for the last 3 years. I wanted to give you guys a bit more detail on what's been learned and what the true sentiment is from people holding those stocks, but with examples a gamer would understand.
OWNERSHIP 1. I think we can all agree that the pivot to the digital age has had benefits and disadvantages. When we bought a digital copy of a game or item, we naïvely thought it was ours forever. We were wrong! If a company can't afford there servers, the online play shuts down (Halo 3 RIP). Same goes for digital downloads and maybe the game itself. That's why physical media is great!

The same thing happened with Stocks. We moved away from physical stocks to help buyers and sellers transact faster and more efficiently. The downside became the reliance on brokers/market makers/clearing houses/ and tons of other entities to get involved. Now the line gets blurry on who actually owns stock. If you buy through a broker, you become a "Beneficial Owner." That means the broker officially owns the stock, even though you paid the money.
What those "basement dwellers" on reddit learned, is the retail investor has a way to move that stock into their own name and take it off the market. Each public company designates a Transfer Company to hold their corporate shares. Those shares are unavailable to those previously listed entities and in the company's name. Apes found out they too could move their shares from a broker and into their own name. This process is called "DRS" (Direct Registration System). Now those brokers can't lend your shares out to be bet short against you, they can't randomly sell all your shares because it could have hurt them financially, and tons of other shady stuff.
The people directly registering their shares are not kids in their parents basements (well not that many of them) that spend all their money because "not a cat" tweeted a meme. They are real people that want to own what they paid for.

TRUE GAMERS

We know that the majority of people play games to relax, pass time, or get yelled out by 12 year olds. However, there are some who like to grind, some that are completionist , Achievement hunters!!!, and some are speedrunners. When some of these gamers dive into dedicate years to these games, they learn far more than thought possible. If you followed the King of Kong story and the allegations of cheating, you may have seen some of the PHD level scientific research papers or video essays. Gamers went hard! It turns out some of them are scientist, mathematicians, electrical engineers, programmers. Experts in their fields.
It just so happens that some non-casual retail investors share some of the same strengths as those tryhard gamers. Over the years, data scientists, professional traders, Finance analysts, investment banks, brokers....have dedicated years to sharing their learnings on how the stock market actually works. Spoiler, it's not kind to the retail investor. If you are curious, please check out the DD library. SuperStonk Library of DD, Art Books, and Periodicals
Instead of finding ways to speedrun the game, these awesome people have uncovered the horrifly ways the retail investor has been swindled out of their money. Retirement funds being shorted using the stocks those same people purchased, the BUY button being turned off so the true value of stock can't be discovered, Operational Shorting to increase liquidity (Legal Naked Shorting), the use of Tokenized stocks to create fake shares (related to FTX by the way), Cellar boxing, collusion between Short Hedgefunds and "Consulants" to take over a companies board only to then set the company up for failure while having hedge funds short the company into the ground (Toys R Us, Bed Bath and Beyond, Sears...), and so many others.
These are experts with the ability to grind. They are not just kids looking to YOLO their money with the hopes of lambos and chicki nuggies. They are serious investors writing Cogressman, the FBI, SEC, FTC, with the intention of exposing these dark practices.

FAN BOYS AND GIRLS

Gamers are built different. If they enjoy a game, they will spend their hard earned money on it, the DLC, the collectibles, clothes, or on trips to see others play it. They will build communities around the games and fight for what they believe in (I'm looking at you Nintendo and the Smash scene!). They also don't take too kindly to when the media talks down to them, or tries to push a narrative that's morally and scientifically wrong. Games are just for kids, they don't rot your brain (except when you want Seriously 2.0 achievement on Gears 2 , and they don't make you violent. Games are art, they let people socialize online, they inspire us, and they are growing part of lives. Just because old geezers keep saying it on the television, does not mean it's true. Sometimes there are hidden motivations driving those narratives.
Why did the media call Gamestop, AMC, Blackberry.... MeME sTocks? Because it drove a narrative. The intentions were clear. Attribute the rapid rise in stock price to a bunch of Fauxmoi enjoying, meme loving, YOLOing, wallstreet betting losers. From then on, all these stocks are know to not be taken seriously. Who has the most to gain by doing this. Well, any media outlet getting their revenue from Paid articles and advertising. Who would pay for such stories, lots of Short Hedge Funds, Banks, Brokerages, and Crypto sites like FTX. If any of those companies where systematically shorting viable companies into the ground, it's best those Headlines say "Forget Gamestop, Sell While You Can, Meme Stock drops XX%." But when any positive news happens, Crickets.
The last 3 years have spawned true fanboys of these companies. Apes take pride in not only buying shares of the company, but buying the company's products. At one point, they were spending significant money on games that were to be donated to children's hospitals. They wanted to help kids and get them into gaming! There are times when somebody posts a crazy indepth DD and get less upvotes than some user who bought Gamestop branded batteries!!! They have evolved! They want the company to succeed. If the company gets fairly valued in the stock market, that's great. If it causes a cause squeeze, cool. If retail buying a stock causes a financial collapse (not as cool, but if it leads to actual market reform while sending shares to infinity like in that one Simpsons picture that predicted Trump...Very cool!).

Hi, I wanted to ask a few things as I've been thinking on and off about wanting to get a little into graffiti for a while now, just haven't really got to it yet.
Are there some resources about like the 'theory', like all the diffirent ways to write a letter and ways to stylize it. Or just a deep dive into all of it on like a 'theoretic' side
(if there is like a 'theoretic' and then the actual 'execution'/ the mechanical skill of holding a pen and writing, if that makes any sense. I imagine studying fonts from some website and calligraphy and learning to write in a decently readible handwriting would be useful?)
Also, how much does the 'name' or different words written mean? Is it just random stuff/ a word that looks cool/ does it actually mean something?

I’ll know the time is right when the howling begins. It will be after sundown of course, the Mothers and Fathers of Jebsen only scream after sundown, and only on the clearest of nights.
There is no town of Jebsen listed on any map, even in its heyday of the 1940’s it was too small to be worthy of notice. It’s nothing more than a collection of buildings at the end of a dead end road. On one side it is bordered by long untended corn fields, on the other the swampy remains of Lake Campbell. The most noticeable of the town’s buildings is a red brick edifice with a wide domed roof of fractured glass. The rest is just barns and single story homes. Along the border of the swamp is row after row of barbed wire and bear traps.
I’ll let them scream for an hour or so, let them become tired. Even now it amazes me how I had learned to pick out the individual voices in the cacophony. The Widow Toth tires easily but the Garrets will be at it until dawn.
And what will I be doing while every able-bodied adult is on the rooftops? I’ll be slipping these pages into this mason jar and sealing it lid in place with the wax from a melted crayon. The Children of Jebsen won’t miss just one, especially not purple.
Twenty-five years ago a calamity befell the town of Jebsen. The authorities blamed it all on the after effects of an experimental insecticide but the Old Book the town elders read from every Sunday said otherwise. It told the citizens of Jebsen that a curse was carried by those twinkling dots in the sky. A malevolence traveling at 186,000 miles per second that would twist their Children into nightmares should a glint of it ever touch their skin.
That is why they scream at the starlight; hating it, cursing it, raging at it.
You can’t see what their Children have become and not feel the same way. The changes are heartbreaking and horrifying all at once but after you spend time with them you feel differently. There is mockery in the mis-set eyes that peer from those mollified skulls.
They know secrets. On quiet, cloudy nights I would put my ear to one families’ basement door or another and hear them murmuring and giggling as they writhe in their basement styes.
I think of their weeping mouths and soft teeth and remember that day half a decade ago the ill-advised shortcut and along the neglected county route 99. I remember approaching the train bridge and seriously considering turning around, it looked decades out of repair and I half suspected it would collapse as I passed under it.
But I didn’t turn back, my ego wouldn’t let me. I was right and the road was wrong so I drove under the train bridge, momentarily marveling at the strange and elaborate graffiti that covered it.
I was just past the structure when a small, bent figure ran out from the long grass.
The sounds are what I really remember; the squeal of the brakes, the thud of the body on the hood of my car, the thick crack of laminated glass.
I would later learn the name of the child I had hit was Julius McCarty but all I knew then was that there was an emaciated, bloodied shape lying halfway through my windshield.
Human instinct made me reach out, to see if the little boy was alive. When my fingers brushed his skin he twisted around to face me. His mouth lashed out proboscis-like and nuzzled into the flesh of my arm.
Pain bristled out from where the boy had latched on to me. I screamed, thrashed. I shoved the car door open and tumbled out onto the asphalt. The boy coughed once and died.
At first the wound held all my attention. How could it not? I had expected to see torn flesh and blood but instead the boy’s distended mouth had left behind a cluster of thick, festering ulcerations.
But then I became aware of the men making their way out of the tall grass. These were the Fathers of Jebsen understood immediately what had happened.
They had brought everything they might need to bring one of their Children back home to its basement; rope, bandages and cudgels. It was also everything they needed to make a captive of me.
They, dragged me away from the accident site, through the tall grass and over the collapsed remains of a chain link fence to leave me in the care of the Mothers of Jebsen. Those gaunt women had cudgels of their own and I was a mass of bruises and welts by the time the hole in the Earth had been made to their standards.
The menfolk returned carrying the child wrapped in a linen shroud. They dropped it roughly into the ground. There were no ceremonies, tears or headstone. It was well after dark by the time I had filled the grave back in.
Now here it is years later and I’ve had to dig a dozen more graves, one by one the Mothers and Fathers are dying out, it’s always a surprise when it happens. Every mother and father of Jensen is withered and white haired but every year a few more die in their sleep, or at work in the fields or at prayer in their red brick observatory.
The Children are dying too, not a one has ever lived past seventeen. One by one they waste away, except of course for the occasional accident like the one that trapped me here.
Despite these curse that has befallen them the people of Jebsen continue to reproduce, each mother convinced that this time she will give birth to the Great Redeemer as was foretold in the Old Book. Each time they fail and each time the result is locked away in it’s family’s basement.
You can’t imagine those basements, the smell of rotten meat, the ankle deep fecal matter and the perfectly clean toys. They draw equations on the walls, gold and silver crayons are their preferred color. Every Tuesday I have to visit each of those cellars and scrub the theorems and postulations away.
The youngest of the Children is a newborn, still angry from the womb, the oldest is seventeen and nearly rotted away. No matter the age they all taunt me as I work, sometimes with bites, sometimes with maledictions. Both have left unimaginable scars.
So many scars now, I’m marked, I could never walk among the people I’d known before. They’d refuse to recognize me and insist I was a stranger
The Widow Thoth says this is my penance for the death of Julius McCarty, she even went so far as to cite chapter and verse on the subject from Old Book itself. The Mothers and Fathers of Jebsen, base every aspect of their lives on that thick volume of prophecies and homilies.
I wonder if anyone will notice me as leaving. I doubt it, even when they’re not screaming their heads off a long dead suns they barely notice my comings and goings.
As I said before, the Mothers and Father’s of Jebsen have become so sure of me. Some families think I’ve become a true believer, the rest think the cinder block chained to my ankle is enough to keep me in my place.
I don’t know who you are or when you’ll find this message. My only hope is that you will believe me. If you do, please bring this document to the proper authorities. Don’t let my death be for nothing.
I go to the bottom of the swamp with two regrets. One is that I won’t be there when the town of Jebsen is discovered and burned to the ground.
The other is that six months ago I accepted Father Garett’s invitation to join in their celebrations. I went willingly with them to the old brick observatory. I prayed with them. I danced with them. I partook in all of their debasements.
And for a little while, perhaps an hour, I was happy.
They even asked me to give reading from the Old Book. I eagerly stopped up to the podium and began flipping through the thick volume.
Everyone waited for me to choose a passage and speak but all I did was shake and weep at what I beheld. My knees buckled. My mind shut down. I had to be carried out and put to bed.
You see, the Old Book was blank from cover to cover. You’re even holding some of those pages in your hands now.
I used them to write my story.
