2024.05.18 02:03 CautiouslyEratic Is it a good idea to saturate mines and transfer to central spot ?

---- EDIT Clarifying the plan -----
I am adding this edit on top to clarify the plan better cause I have mentioned quite a few things and it may have been confusing. So here's what I think I want to try doing next (I am on an 80 hour map right now btw - monorail just became available).
Please notice that the whole plan is not about efficiency or speed, but rather avoid repeating the same structures and scale more easily ( plus sounds kinda fun to me lol)
1) Use belts anyway till i make the first few trains.
2) Once I am able to make trains, the first plan is to create an ingots distribution center (plus raw materials like quartz). When I find a new resource node i want to utilize i refine the materials locally. For example, i find a 240 mine 2 node, i make 8 smelters locally. A train handles gathering the ingots and distributing them to the ingots center.
3) I decide I want to build a screws factory 500 meters away from that ingots distribution center. That factory doesn't worry about ingots at all. A train has to handle bringing the ingots to the factory and the factory just receives them as input and ONLY handles the screws manufacture.
4) One km away from that screws factory i decided i want to build a computer factory. This factory now requires both ingots and screws. A train(maybe even the same one as above i guess) handles the ingots distributions and another train handles the screws distribution, basically making the whole computer factory a process of combining the core 4 (large scale) materials it consists of.
That is what I want to be doing. Again I think this will have bottlenecks and be slow, at least in the beginning, but i don't really care about that. I am mostly looking for a fun way of not repeating myself and i don't mind waiting a bit nor do i care about load balancing. What do you guys think ?
So I am at the point where I just unlocked the first train and I am about to work on larger factories, for computers etc..
I was thinking what the best potential route to go with is in order to not have to redo the same things again down the line because I am not producing enough.
For example, looking to make heavy modular frames, i thought that I could just transfer the steel components I am already making elsewhere and find a couple of iron ore nodes with a limestone node nearby (for the industrial beams) and setup a factory this way. Start with an mk3 belt which i have right now to transfer steel and later maybe switch that to a train.
As I was about to do that, I realized that this factory can become completely obsolete eventually, since the nodes nearby are very specific (2 iron + 1 limestone) and so in the case I would want to expand i would either need to ship ingots from somewhere else or just build another similar factory elsewhere from scratch.
So I was trying to picture what a more scaleable solution would be. Now the idea of shipping ingots back to a central solution sounded a bit too tedious, I am seeing some very importand advantages here, probably especially when I will have trains transferring stuff around.
So if a have a computer factory producing 1 computeminute, the only thing i need to do in order to expand that factory (as long as it doesn't have an outer shell I guess - which i never make), is send more ingots/plastic/steel ingots and other refined materials to that factory and maybe make a new floor and double production or so. Seems pretty scaleable, especially compared to that first case.
I guess my personal ideal way of playing this would be to have 1 factory per 1 material and not clone the same factory all over. I'd rather have a mega factory that produces only screws and distributes them where needed than have a computer factory produce screws for example, in the process of making these computers.
Now that said, since i have never went that far, I am not even sure that is a viable plan. In terms of space this should be fine since the map is huge and you can also build vertically, so that should be ok in terms of that.
Not sure how that would work out in terms of trains though. Would they be able to handle the load in a reasonable amount of time ? Not sure, I haven't build trains before and I don't think i will be touching trucks anytime soon (I am also not a fan of long belts, but i guess that's the only way for now)
This kind of plan I am mentioning here is definitely not a viable plan with belts, since you cannot really have stops the same way you have with trains. It will be a massive mess to attempt to do that with belts, but it definitely does -at least sounds- viable with trains, since you can add new stops, new trains etc. Basically scale much more easily.
It is worth mentioning that the most "fun" way of playing for me would be what i mentioned above. 1 factory for everything (apart from what comes out of mines and 1-way refinement, like ingots). I love the idea of having a single place handling a single thing if possible and literally nothing else.
What do you guys think ? Is it a good idea or i should just scratch that and work with whatever nodes i have locally and just transfer components from other factories that do the same ?

2024.05.17 01:08 Ph3n3x New (to me) home theater equipment help

I have done some reading, but trying to get actual information and comparisons is overwhelming to me as someone who is new to home theater setups. I thought about posting in BudgetAudiofile, but they seem to be more focused on smaller 2.1 setups, so here I am. If there is a better place for me to ask the questions, please let me know.
I recently acquired some home theater equipment (multiple speakers and one receiver) and need some help on the best setup for (potentially) a couple of rooms. I understand the general setup of the rooms and have used the tools available to plan everything out layout wise, but not sure of the combo to use. Also, I will have to purchase another receiver to set up the second room, but that will be a future purchase as I will upgrade to a 4k 120hz receiver for the theater room and move the existing to the living room.

Equipment:
2x Paradigm 11seMk3
2x B&W DM630
2x Boston Acoustics VR975
2x ELAC Debut 2.0 Bookshelf Speakers
2x Yamaha NS-IC800 (These are already installed in the primary room)
2x Klipsch R-41SA
1x Klipsch R-34C
1x Signet LCR
1x B&W 800ASW
2x Klipsch R-100SW
1x Yamaha RX-V685

Rooms (Length shown that way as there is only one way to set up the rooms and 8' ceilings):
Home Theater is 14x11
Wall to the left (when viewing screen) is almost covered by curtains, huge chase couch (think queen/king size bed).
This room has the Yamaha NS-IC800 installed in the ceiling over the seating area, and with the (lack of) space behind the seating and requirement of having end tables on each side of the seating, most likely will require the ELAC or B&W speakers as rear surround due to size.

Living Room is 13x16
Large leather sectional with footrest that covers most of two walls with curtains on the left hand side of the room.

Note: Both have tile floors but with rugs.

The speakers seem to be in good condition (hooked them up and they sound good for the most part to an untrained ear) except the Paradigms. They seem a bit dirty on the cones and one of them has a torn surround on the woofer as you can see in the image. Is there a good way to clean them without damaging the speaker (haven't even tried a duster yet) and is there a way to replace the surround of the damaged speaker? should I find a replacement woofer? or just move them to the garage?

I know this is a mess of a combo, but I am working with what I have and trying not to spend 10k in audio equipment at this time. Hopefully you can help me determine what would be the optimal combination(s?) for my current equipment? Hopefully this provides enough context, if you have any additional questions, I am happy to answer them.

tl;dr - Got a bunch of speakers and need to figure out what ones to use.

2024.05.14 13:29 PugsnPawgs Best way to play iTunes on Hi-Fi Stereo

I'm installing my Hi-Fi Stereo in my new house, and as I was browsing the internet to buy a new stand for my vinyl player, I found alot of stuff about audio quality (how shitty vinyl is and how CDs degrade over time) - which made me decide I should find a way to play digital audio files on the stereo.
I have my files stored on a Macbook Pro 13" from 2009-2011, the files are 320kbps MP3 (some FLAC).
Speakers: Sharp CP-7700 MK3 Stereo: Onkyo Stereo Receiver TX-8255
I've read all kinds of ways to connect the laptop to the stereo (AUX, audio adapters), but as I'm not really familiar with equipment, this sounds all very confusing to me as I keep wondering if the music will lose any quality with these kind of connections offered to me. My budget doesn't really have a limit and I'm located in Belgium (Europe).
TL;DR I want to connect my laptop to my stereo without losing any quality. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

2024.05.12 20:27 ThatOneZombie16 Running into trouble with VST, Drum Rack and External Instrument Device

Running into trouble with VST, Drum Rack and External Instrument Device
Hey y'all,
I recently bought the Oberheim DMX drum plugin and want to run it through a drum rack in Ableton.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ge02SKhzL0
I tried following this guide however, once I include the external instrument device (EID) in the chain and tried outputting the MIDI from the drum rack to the DMX, I don't get an option to do so. He does this around the 3:10 mark.
I have Live 11, I use a Novation Launchkey 49, and have a TASCAM Model 12 as an audio interface. In the video he's talking about mapping pads with a Push so I'm thinking it's device specific. If that's so, is there any way around the issue so that I can use the VST in the drum rack and am still able to customize each drum sound in their own channel?
I read through the Oberheim manual and feel like I've exhausted my google searches and came across possible solutions but nothing has worked so far.
Let me know if you need any other information. I really want to get this thing working.
Thank you.

2024.05.11 03:03 NoAssistance5728 Long Branch Sten MKII 1943

I have recently gotten my hands on a very poorly deactivated STEN MKII Canadian Model. In front of the ejector port, it seems the genius at the Deactivation Station sawed a solid 1 inch off of the tube, and this has spiralled into more and more pieces breaking (Receiver, Threading for some reason, etc.) Does anyone have any advice for me? I'm really disappointed with what has happened (When I bought this, I didn't see all the kinks) and I'm also looking for a website that I can get parts from that can be shipped to Canada. (I'm also not making it fully fire, just making everything else work.)

2024.05.11 01:58 Voxpopcorn Newest toy. Berlin P1/P38

Newest toy. Berlin P1/P38
Due to Berlin's bizarre occupation rules, German troops and weapons were not allowed in the occupied city. To get around this, the Police received intense military training and the riot police were equipped as light infantry. A large auxiliary police force formed a reserve. In the event of invasion they were all to be attached to allied units. It was estimated that they'd be annihilated in four days, but would divert and slow the communist push west.
Since German weapons were not allowed, these were assembled in France from Walther parts. Manurhin manufactured these immediately following the war on confiscated machinery. Serial # indicates an early issue, '62. The sunburst ( often mistaken for a flower) on the trigger guard is a Berlin proof. On the other side, the Berlin bear is barely visible. The crossed cannons below it is a mystery, one theory is that these were originally headed to Portugal.
My torn shoulder holster is marked PpBn for Polizei Praesidium Berlin. It also would fit the Lugers and perhaps the FN 1922s that were common in the mess of handguns before. The belt holster is correct for Bundeswehr, BGS, and provincial police. Berlin used one that was slightly closer to wartime. .
Besides this they used the MAS 36 and Sten , French light machine guns the designation of which I forget, and as time went on increasingly Garands, M1 Carbines, etc. Later large caches were found , likely of a BN GPMG. Mid 70s they were rearmed with modern weapons by the Bundeswehr.

I have posted a lot over the last week in this subreddit, and I'm super appreciative of how helpful this community has been!
I wanted to give back a little bit with a guide for turning Drambo into a MPC/Maschine style groove box. Special thanks to u/zom-ponks who got me going down the right path, some of the directions below are directly from him.
I should also note, this may be painfully obvious to some, but hopefully it will help others. I will start with the directions, and then provide a few notes on how the functionality works with the pad controller, as well as a few thoughts on ideal pad controllers. (I will be using a Novation Launchpad Pro MK3 controller as the example here):
GUIDE
  1. Drambo General Settings Menu: set Drambo to receive MIDI from your controller(s), in Settings > Midi Inputs pick the MIDI ins to Track and Control (and Clock if you want to sync to an external source). And then select "Auto-select track" to on.
  2. Drambo Track Settings Menu(s): Go to the "Main" track where you see all your individual tracks listed. Click on the header for each individual track to access the track settings and do the following: Set the "Channel" (under the MIDI Input section) to match the track number, so track 1 would go to MIDI channel 1, track 2 to channel 2, ect. And also check "Receive MIDI" to always for each track.
  3. MIDI Learn Process: In Drambo, on the right hand side of the pad section, click the "TRK" button, you should see pads for each track. On your MIDI controller move to MIDI channel 16 (this channel will be "reserved", meaning you will only be able to have up to 15 tracks in Drambo). Go into MIDI learn mode, and learn each track pad in Drambo to a separate pad on your MIDI controller.
FUNCTIONALITY
Alright setup complete, here are some notes of the functionality from here:
I really wanted the functionality of being able to be playing they pads/keys for one track in the Controller while still editing another track's arrangement within the app, but BeepStreet confirmed in an email to me that was not possible, but did provide MIDI controller powered solution:
"It's not possible yet to play one track and edit another in Drambo UI, however you may do it using external controller and Tracks mapped to different MIDI channels. (Track module header - MIDI in)" - BeepStreet
And that's the gist of it for now. Please comment with any additional settings/tricks to aid in this Groovebox style setup.
MIDI CONTROLLERS
Also please reply with what MIDI controllers you think would work best with this and why. I believe MIDI controllers with the easiest way to switch channels are ideal (most ideal being a dedicated button for each MIDI channel). Another option would be a MIDI keyboard with at least 16 customer user banks/presets, and again here, dedicated button for each would be ideal.
If there are any MIDI keyboards with pads and keys where the pads MIDI channel can be set separately from the keys MIDI channel would also be ideal. As you could always have the pads set to channel 16, and then can swap the channel for the keys to whatever you want on the go.

Lemme Upgrade Ya
Going from my first vintage receiver (Pioneer SX-780) to this bombshell feels like going au naturel after a lifetime of using jimmy hats.

2024.05.05 20:15 Ed_Scarface Looking for the missing piece in my setup

My current setup consists of:
My objective is to absolutely abandon my PC setup with FL Studio, and be able to fully program, play and improvise tracks with hardware only. The current step sequencing capabilities of the JD-Xi are limited to say the least, therefore I'm looking for a piece of hardware with strong step sequencing capabilities, at least 6 MIDI tracks and DIN MIDI IN/OUT. This hardware should also be able to receive note information from the Impact Keyboard, both for the sequence recording phase and for improvisation on the various synths that will be connected to it. Budget is not a problem, but the expense should be justified.
Some examples that I've found so far, each with some problems I have with them:

TLDR: I'm looking for a powerful step sequencer (at least 6 tracks) to control all my current and future synths; I want to control it with my current MIDI keyboard for both inputing the midi sequences and playing each synth live. I don't need any other function.

Can you please help me find something that could do what I need? If you believe that the Syntakt of the SL MK3 could do it for me, could you give me positive arguments?

2024.05.02 16:01 Lopsided_Hedgehog My experience with the Pathfinder

I just wanted to share my quick impressions of the Pathfinder now that I’ve had some time with it. This in no way will be as in-depth or comprehensive as a “Best Build Thursday” but I hope my experience will be a bit of use to those just getting the bot.
The Pathfinder is the newest entry into the 3 medium hardpoint family which include the Mars, Demeter, and Ravana. It sports one active and one passive ability: Track and Enfeeble. - Track locks down an enemy and marks it with an arrow. The Pathfinder and any allies that either killed or assisted in the killing of the marked bot will receive a hunter’s mark for the rest of the match. This mark will grant the wearer a boost to both damage and speed for the rest of the life of the bot. - Enfeeble applies suppression to any attacker. At MK3 the number of times it can suppress increases to 2.
The Pathfinder is a robot that requires a bit more strategy to get the best out of it. It can be taken down quite easily if focused down after spawning but can also be a terror if allowed to linger and accumulate multiple hunter’s marks. At max stacks of hunter’s marks the Pathfinder can also be a threat to titans depending on the weapon set.
My overall strategy with the Pathfinder is to play it midrange in order to accumulate hunter’s marks and once I get 2-3 I can now move in and push the frontlines. This means marking all reds that my team are engaging even if I’m not there attacking. The Pathfinder will still get a mark if that bot is killed. So accumulate those marks fast and early.
My weapons inventory being as shallow as it is, I was only able to test a few sets: the Chione, Hazard, Mace, and Punisher T (recommended by who else?). - Chione: my personal favorite because of it’s reach but also its ability to work upclose as well. It has splash and the freezeblast slows down not only the target but those around it while also increasing damage by 20%. - Hazards: my second choice for the Pathfinder. It’s much stronger than the Chiones but requires clear line of sight. But the lockdown of the Track ability makes hitting all shots much easier. - Maces: old reliable. The main thing I didn’t like about the blast shotguns was how close I had to get for those kills or assists. But once you have some marks, the ease of use of the shotguns in close quarters makes kills easy. - Punisher T: it works and it makes such a satisfying sound. My main problem with the machine guns is ammo management: I don’t do it. A better player can probably make sure they had enough ammo left to kill the next bot but that ain’t me.
Modules: I mostly ran one nuclear amplifier and 2 repair amplifiers for more durability. I also tried trading on repair amp for an immune and this worked as well.
Drones: I’ve used the Freezo with the ice rockets; the gray damage reduction came in quite handy to keeping its health up after being jumped by Ochokochis and Shenlous. Any other weapon I would use Shai for more durability (although Pascal will probably do this better).
Pilot: John Orsted’s ability to break shields might seem weak because it’s only for a few moments but I’ve found it great in catching shielded bots by surprise provided you can time your shots well. If not John then maybe Trixie or Adrian.
I hope this helps out any new Pathfinder users to get the most fun out of the bot. It’s become my favorite and a mainstay in my hangar.
TLDR; - Get hunters marks before engaging in more reckless close quarters behavior - Chiones and hazards work well
