Lettering is 'the act, art or process of inscribing or writing words on something'. And it is also just awesome. If you create your own or find awesome ones out in the wild, throw them up and let it be ridiculed or revered!

2024.04.30 20:42 No-Literature8982 My freindship ended abruptly. How do I move on?

My (28F) best freind (27M) of over 10 years stopped talking to me and it's completely crushed me. He was the man of honor at my wedding and he was very much like a brother to me and my family. This is tough to admit, but, the pain I'm experiencing from this betrayal honestly feels the same as if he'd died. And somehow, I feel like that would have been easier to process. I am really struggling to cope with this loss and need advice on how to find closure.
Backstory: My freind and I met back in highschool while working at a resturant together. Other freinds would come and go in both of our lives but, we always stuck together. We never fought, we would laugh until we cried, and no matter where we were or what we were doing we always had a good time. From Weddings, Graduations, Funerals, Birthdays, Coming out to his Family/Freinds, Pride Events, Vacations, Dinners, Sleepovers, Boyfreinds...we've done it all; and through all of it there was never a moment that I thought he wouldn't be in my life. But, here we are.
I got my freind a job at my company back in 2021 (we were at different locations). Both of us had very successful careers and I moved on to manage a community with the same company. Eventually, I had an assistant manager position open up and my freind was ready and deserving of a promotion. Now that we were at the same location and he was reporting to me we made sure to have conversations about the importance of keeping work and our personal lives separate in order to maintain our freindship. It was no surprise that we worked great together.
Fast forward to December 2022. My freind started dating a resident (40 M) at the community we worked at. I was very weary of this as it's not only frowned upon but, I had also had an issue in the past with this resident where he wrote an obnoxious email. Prejudgments aside, I was glad that my freind was finally happy (he had a pretty rough time dating). As his manager, I advised him to report the relationship to HR so they could sign the necessary paperwork together (this protects all parties involved). I was familiar with the process because I had to do something similar when I my husband and I first started dating. We working working at the same property together but, in different departments.
When my freind and his boyfreind first started dating it was all very new and exciting. This was my freinds first serious relationship (lasting more than a few weeks) and the guy was really nice. Their first date they went out for coffee and talked for hours. This was followed by a few more dates and things seemed to be going really well up until a couple months later in when his boyfreind proposed! I'm all for "when you know you know" but, it had only been two months...shortly after they moved in together. This is when everything started to change. The boyfreind became very controlling. He would not allow my freind to share the news of their engagement with any of his freinds or family. He didn't want my freind hanging out with any of his other freinds or family. He had a short temper. It was all very concerning and my freind was upset that things weren't how they were in the beginning. I voiced my concerns to my freind and told him that he deserved better. He didn't disagree.
I tried my best in the beginning with the boyfreind but, after seeing all of the red flags and how he was treating my best freind...I lost all respect.
Personally, 2023 was an incredibly hard year for me. My husband had a major surgery and he was out of work leaving me to provide for our family. I struggled with anxiety, depression, stress from work, and our marriage was suffering. Regardless, I held my composure and came to work with a smile every day (crying behind closed doors). All of this came to ahead in July of 2023. I was at a point where I was ready to quit my job and my husband and I were contemplating a separation. I had plans to move to Wilmington with my cousin and then in August of 2023 that cousin committed suicide. I was beside myself and so very lost. My husband and I decided to work things out and I got a job offer with my company to relocate to a different state in September of 2023 and that's what we did.
I say this to give you a little context of how crazy my life was in July and August. I admit I wasn't as mentally present as I was in the past at my job, but I got all of my work done and on top of that was working weekends (we were down a third person in the office) to help ease the workload for my freind. Managers don't usually work weekends and this was a kindness not a requirement.
While I was away one weekend in July for a wedding, my husband went missing one evening. I was calling hospitals, jails, you name it. Family members back home were out looking for him. It was getting late around 9 or 10pm and I texted my freind who lived in the same neighborhood as us. I told him my husband was missing and to call me. He never called and ignored my call later on (he was texting me back so I knew he was avaliable). This was an emergency and it was very unlike him to not call me. He later texted and said that his boyfreind went over to our house and knocked on the door and my husband wasn't home. At this point, my freind had only received the one or two texts from me and hadn't called me so he didn't know what was going on, how could he? If he had called he would know that I didn't need him to go to our house, we all knew that my husband wasn't home because my father in law had already checked. If he had called he would know that I just needed my freind. If my freind would have just said that he's busy or not responded at all I would've understood. It was just a little frustrating that he was acting like he didn't care.
I didn't sleep at all that night waiting on news from my husband. While I was up, I checked Facebook and the first thing I saw was a status from my freinds boyfreind. It said, "I'm just going to put this out there - don't take advantage of the people I love. Don't use them. Don't question them. Don't call them. Font text them - especially when you're never there for them. Don't act like the freind you're not. They're better off without you. You won't change my mind."
I was so taken aback and texted my freind a screenshot of of the status and asked who it was about and if it was about me??? He said yes and apologized that his boyfreind had posted it and said that there wasn't anything for me to worry about and to just focus on finding my husband. I was LIVID. Not that I need to explain, but, I have always been there for my freind and I very rarely reach out for help. He knows this. I know this. And anyone who really know us knows this. However, a statment like this makes you think twice and I started going back through recent events and couldnt understand what his boyfreind was referencing.
I texted my freinds mom (we're very close and he was also very close to his mom). I asked her if she thought I was a good freind to him. I texted her because I was confused and the whole situation made me very self conscious. She of course said yes and then called me. I told her a little but of what happened and how I was worried about my freind. She was also worried about him because since he had started dating his boyfreind he had completely stopped coming to see her. She would ask questions about their relationship and I declined, letting her know that it wasn't my story to share and that I was just worried.
The next day my freind called to apologize and I lost it. Emotions were so high already and I told him that his boyfreind was an asshole and that I haven't done anything to be treated like this. I told him I knew it was his boyfreind and not him but, that if something was bothering him he needed to talk to me about it. He said that there was nothing wrong and assured that I hadn't done anything. He apologized profusely. We also found my husband the following day and he was OK (long story and not relevant to this).
Things never really got better from there. I let it go and over the next couple months I would invite my freind to hangout and he would decline. I told him that I was moving out of state soon (which he knew about) and that I wanted to spend time with him before I left. In September 2023 I made plans with our freind group for my going away and my freind didn't show up. He never made an effort to see me before I left and I was very hurt by this. I sent a quick text letting him know how I felt and asking if we could do something the following day. Later that evening while I was enjoying my time with our freinds, he texted me and said that he was upset that I spoke to his mom a couple months back and that he feels like she sees his boyfreind differently now because of what I said to her. I didnt tell his mom anything that she didnt already know and was simply telling her what happened and that I was worried. She had already felt some type of way about the boyfreind before we talked. My freind even admitted in the text that he knows I probably had his best intentions in mind but I overstepped. Then he continued to rattle off a few work related incidents that rubbed him the wrong way and proceeded to say that because of me, him and his boyfreind almost broke up (because of the facebook thing...like what???). Then he says that he doesnt care what anyone thinks and that he loves his boyfreind and wants to stay with him. Ok thats great...I never told you who you can and can't date but you've been miserable and its not my fault in the slightest. He also saod that him and I have had a great freindship and that he will always have love for me but, he doesnt think that he can ever forgive me and that he has to, "seperate" from this. His EXACT words. "Seperate" from this. He said that he will mourn our freindship every day but he wont miss how he was treated the last couple of months. I was shocked by all of this and in tears. My other freinds were with me when I got this text and were equally as shocked and upset. It was like the words weren't even coming from him. I tried to call him. No answer. I texted him back and apologized about speaking with his mom and that I wish he told me sooner because I didn't realize it upset him. In regards to everything else i had absolutely ZERO idea as to what he was talking about and told him just that. Out of frustration, I also said that I never thought he would let work or a guy come between us but, I guess I was wrong. Before I left, my freinds mom wanted to see me and we made plans, but my freind told me that he didn't want us to hang out.
Since then, I've moved and texted him on his birthday, holidays, asked how he's doing from time to time, told him how heartbroken and disappointed I am over all of this, and nothing. It's been six months now and I had to delete his number recently so I wouldn't be tempted to reach out to him. His mom still checks in every now and then. She has also lost complete contact with her son.
I replay his words and those last few weeks in my head over and over again trying to figure out what I did wrong. But, I just can't wrap my head around it. We hadn't fought NOT ONCE in over 10 years and to see how he was able to throw me away like I meant nothing over one fight makes no sense to me. I'm so hurt and don't know how to heal from this. It's caused me to not trust anyone and to shut down.
What can I do to help myself?
Side note: I quit my stressful job, I got a more fullfilling job, my marriage is thriving, we closed on our first home, life is finally starting to look up but, this pain is holding me back.
I'm in desperate need of some encouragement and advice.
Thank you in advance!

2024.04.30 18:10 DecentCan8130 Disappointed in Rich Harris and Maintainers

So until 2022~2023 Svelte(Kit) had so much potential.. but not anymore i think.
Seeing Svelte 5 and the Runes, i don't think Svelte has brighter future than NextJS, React. The primary reason is the persistent pains from lack of lib eco system. For example, if you look at shadcn-svelte they are still keeping that ugly TS and recommending you (forcing you) to use TS and if you dont? they will break everything including my .cjs tailwind config on install. Devs need well maintained boost lib, huge community, not some unhealthy more sugar syntaxes like fancy Runes.
And you actually want me to believe that transition from Svelte 4 to 5 will be very smooth and automatic? NO thanks, i just don't trust that. It WILL give me headache and consume my another week
I'm learning NextJS and not putting all my eggs on Svelte. NextJS and React was of course more verbose but NextUI was like Godsend. Sadly in Svelte I have already wasted much time to find this painful Modal component.
Now my suggestion to Rich Harris and Maintainers is that slow down your magical development journey to Svelte 5 or 6, 7 and focus on growing your lib eco system. And.. don't believe in open community maintainers too much as you will easily beaten by Facebook. Let some big companies like Vercel maintain it.. or even sell it to Facebook (joke)
I haven't fully lost hope in Svelte yet and I'm watching you Rich Harris and Maintainers.
Don't let your Svelte die and make me go to that ugly boilerplate React. (Frontend will be doomed for another 10 years)

2024.04.30 15:49 deadcoder0904 Copycat Startups (aka The Clone Factory)

One sure-shot way to succeed in startups is by cloning successful startups.
The idea is simple. Clone an idea working in US or China and build it in your own country.
Its a genius idea to make lots of money fast.
The Samwer Brothers sent several emails to eBay suggesting that the company establish an online auction platform in Germany, and that they should be hired to run it. When they didn't receive a reply, the brothers returned to Germany and, in January 1999, brought in three friends to develop their own platform, Alando.
It was a German copycat of eBay which they built it in a month. Within 100 days of going live, eBay bought them for $43 million. In 2023, eBay's revenue was $10 billion.
They cloned a lot of fastest-growing startups like:
  1. Zalando: Copycat version of eBay purchased by eBay for $43 million
  2. Lazada: The Amazon of Indonesia
  3. CityDeal: Groupon Clone (acquired by Groupon for $170 million only 6 months after launch)
  4. StudiVZ: Facebook Clone (sold for $100 million)
They failed a few times like with AirBnB as they couldn't compete on the community aspect but won more than enough times to make up for it. The Samwer Brothers aren’t the only ones who do it. Other entrepreneurs do it too. Ola in India and Didi in China comes to mind. They launched after Uber.
Facebook was cloned in Russia and the founder launched VK. It is 10x bigger than Facebook in Russia.
Amazon sellers clone brands that are working well. Most of the time those different competing brands are often operated by a single person sitting in China.
Peleton got cloned by Echelon. Even their name is a clone.
YC companies nowadays (500 startups per batch) are often clones of big startups. There are clones from the YC batch too. Here's a list from few years ago:
  1. Fancy - goPuff (raised $850m+) for the UK.
  2. Minimall - Pinduoduo for Europe
  3. Sakneen - Zillow for Egypt
  4. Flat - Opendoor for Mexico
  5. Decentro - Plaid for India
Clone and Own in Latam as its targetted last by most big startups.
In the end, you either clone consciously or subconsciously. That's How Innovation Works.
What do you think of it? Do you hate it if someone clones your idea? Or don't mind it?
Personally think the only ones who hate it are bad marketers.
PS: You can find full reverse-engineering mechanism for cloning successful startups listed on acquire.com here.

2024.04.30 13:11 Low_Ad3112 Rate my listening room

Rate my listening room
Rate my listening room
It’s taken about 20 years to collect all the gear and 10 years to collect the 4-5k Lps and about a year to put it all together.
You’ll see 100% of my vintage silver faced boomboxes, all of my reel to reels, all my vinyl LPs but not of my 3/4k 45’s - as I havnt cataloged them yet and haven’t decided how to organize or display them.
There’s only about 2% each of my vintage audio gear including turntables, receivers, speakers, instruments and and artwork since the room is only so big. But I really like how it turned out and how it sounds.
You’re hearing a Technics Direct Drive record queuing SL-1959 turntable (with the $25 thrift store price still on it 😂) through a pioneer SA-9100 preamp connected to a pioneer SX-950 integrated receiver, on magnepan magnaplaner speakers for mains and some old series iii bose directional bookshelf speakers to fill some gaps. Nothing too fancy, and I’m proud to say I’ve never spent more than $60-70 bucks on any gear, except for the second hand magnepans ($200), and that includes several Technics SL-1200mkii turntables, a Sansui 9909db receiver and d some monster Samsui XP-8900 kabuki speakers with huge 15 or 18” woofers.
I’m also quite proud of the fact that almost everything’s been collected on the cheap, vinyl for a buck or less mainly at flea markets, and some thrift store finds as well including the three sealed Bob Dylan box sets, wich I paid up for between $75-125 each and glad I did, and the only retail pieces are the two recently purchased sealed UHQR Box set releases of Exodus and Rastaman Vibration. By far my costliest buys at $250 a piece, while I was waiting in Montego Bay airport for a return flight to the US. A costly browse indeed.
I know I bought the gear and vinyl at the right time as I started collecting back in 2000 before vintage audio went crazy. In fact, I was so used to paying $20-$40 bucks for mid range receivers like a Technics ST-500 or a Pioneer SX-636, or the SL-1200mkii’s etc, that I almost passed when the lady wouldn’t budge rom the $65 bucks she was asking for the Sansui 9090db. I even tried my walking away trick but she was sticking to her guns. I’m so glad I bought it but I knew I was going to the minute I picked it up and almost gave myself a hernia. I would have been kicking myself for the last 20 years watching that receiver sell for $200, then $500, then $1,000, then $2000, and still rising.
Anyway, not bragging in any way, just sharing that it’s still possible to find decent second hand vinyl and vintage gear at flea markets and yard sales. You just got to get up early enough and get out there!
Unfortunately it seems that the good stuff at thrift stores these days either walks out the back door, is priced ridiculously high, or put online for auction so that may not be as lucrative as it once was but it’s always been nicer and more social to look for treasures outdoors at flea markets and yard sales anyways. Just remember that it’s the people you meet and connect with, or can touch, inspire or encourage that are the real treasures. Not the material things. I myself was confused for a while.
It took me years to figure that out, while I haggled everyone down like I was on a TV show for items that were already priced well below their true value, while watching everyone else do the same including offering a quarter when quoted a dollar or waving a dollar in the vendors face when they were asking for $5.
I couldn’t help but start noticing how beat down and unhappy the vendors were looking so I took it upon myself to beat them UP instead of down. Haha They would ask $5 for something worth $30 and I would counter with $7, always shocking them at first but always leaving them with a smile, and usually making a new friend for life.
Even if it was just to say a sincere thank you when I was quoted a crazy price, instead of voicing my opinion loud and clear how their item was way overpriced and that no one would buy it like many people seem to like to do.
Ok that went off topic! It’s just that the moments and experiences I had with the vendors were always much more rewarding than some record or other trinket that was usually easily replaceable, but the friends I made, and the stories we shared, and the encouragement we gave each other each week as we got to know each other better are priceless and irreplaceable.
And btw-whenever I asked for a price from then on it was always “FOR YOU!? $2!” It was a little embarrassing really but it’s true you catch more flies with honey then with vinegar (never knew why collecting flies was a thing) but maybe it is easier to get a good deal just by being genuine and friendly and give a little back when you can, rather then by the old school hard bargaining many of our immigrant (or cheap) parents taught us 😂😂
Back to the room….
I tend to keep all the lights on the shelves white but I thought I’d demo the sound activated feature they have which synchs colors to the beat and notes. Red for highs and blues for lows.
To accomplish that I had to string a separate set of 2 string lights on each level.
I think my favorite piece in the room is the picture frame I bought and took out the photo and replaced it with all the concert stubs I collected back in my teenage concert going days. On the margins I tried to hand print the band’s name and concert date in the bands favored font. It came out pretty good imho.
Oh yeah, and after I finished my magnum opus I went ahead and hid it with a secret revolving built in bookshelf. Don’t ask, I just always wanted a secret door Scooby Doo style. “Ro ro shaggy, where did he go!?”
So what do you think? Hot and hit the spot? Or Not, too much going on!

- Apostrophes and quotes fail to transform into their left-right variants, causing coded single and double quote marks to appear instead of the anticipated left and right variants.
- Text is positioned closer to the bottom right corner, resulting in incorrect text placement after opening a new Canvas and adding new text
- When using the delete button on the laptop to erase text, it becomes evident that the undo and redo functions are not operating correctly.
- After changing a color or moving an image, the undo feature fails to function.
- Users have the ability to delete uploaded images when using new Image Inspiration designs.
- When attempting to upload an image, a message indicating "unable to upload image" is displayed, prompting users to check their internet connection.
- The learning plan redirects to the Canvas instead of remaining on the home page.
- When the uploaded image is added to the Canvas, it displays an image load failure.

2024.04.30 02:04 waterlessgrape My high paying job is killing me. Should I quit?

I’m going to try and be concise here! 34F/single/no kids - Canada.
I’ve been at my company 9 years, currently making around $115k. I have no university/college/skillset. I started in general support early in a company that absolutely exploded and is now a huge publicly traded company. Through this fast mass growth I got moved to the R&D side with a fancy title with fancy pay. However I was on a small niche team that no one cared about so I slid through the cracks. I’m not saying I didn’t work hard but I wouldn’t have a chance in hell getting my role now. I’m simply not qualified.
This caught up to my small team 6ish months ago. Boss got fired and replaced with a high up director. Team got split up and moved to different departments with similar but new initiatives. I now work with people who have MBAs, previously worked at places like Google/Facebook, have started and sold companies etc. No one knows I never even went to Uni, but it’s been 2 months now and the quality differences are extremely apparent and embarrassing. I feel like the dumbest person in the room and I’m frozen with fear. I barely speak. But so far there’s been indication of letting me go unfortunately. I would die for severance right now.
Additionally, I completely burnt out around 2 years ago. Multiple work+life issues happened at once and I’m honestly a shell of my former self. Crazy anxiety doing everyday things, overwhelmed and cannot handle stress or make a decision. I’ve completely withdrawn from friends/family. No interests/passion/caring. Gained like 60lbs. Poor hygiene etc. Totally depressed and trapped feeling everyday.
I’ve done a lot to try and fix this. Took a 3 month stress leave over a year ago. Meds, therapy, gym, water, vacations etc.
I don’t want to look a new job either. I have no desire or energy. It’s also terrible out there. I make so much at my current job. Real golden handcuffs situation over here. I’m in a permanent remote position too.
Caveat, I have a lot of savings and could support myself for 1-2 years, but that would mean all my savings and withdrawing investments.

2024.04.29 21:37 Emotional_Hunt4308 The Greatest Joe Rogan Experience Podcasts

The Joe Rogan Experience - Greatest Episodes
As someone who has listened to literally over thousands of hours of the Joe Rogan Experience, I took it upon myself to start making a list of my favourite episodes, only starting within the last year or two. This does not include everything, but if you're looking for something new or refreshing, here is a list of some of my favourites. Please feel free to drop yours as well, and ill be sure to add it!
#1459 - Tom O’Neill
The true story behind Charles Manson and his connection to the CIA.
#1315 - Bob Lazar & Jeremy Corbell
A supposed former area-51 worker shares his story on alien crafts the government is trying to reverse engineer.
#1828 - Michio Kaku
The future of human kind in connection to space travel, alien plausibility, and our development into a Type-1 civilization.
#1976 - James Fox
UFO investigator who discusses one of the most documented and covered-up alien sightings in history, taking place in Brazil.
#1965 - David Choe
Maybe the most interesting man on the planet. And yes, that can be interpreted as either good or bad…
#1945 - Eric Weinstein
Alien technology, the future of our civilization, secret societies, and Eric Weinstein feeling left out.
#1922 - Sam & Colby
YouTubers who explore abandoned buildings which have a history of being haunted. They discuss their personal experiences with ghosts, life, overcoming confidence issues as teens, and much more. I never heard or watched there Channel beforehand, and honestly I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it. This more chilled out, honest and humble version of Sam & Colby was much more entertaining.
#1905 - More Plates More Dates
Steroids, liver king, health, wellness, bodybuilding, supplementation… This one is for the bro’s.
#1860 - Tim Dillon
The future of America is most likely fucked… Take it from Comedian and seemingly political activist Tim Dillon.
#1616 - Jamie Metzl
In the midst of the outbreak of COVID-19, Jamie Metzl, a member of the World Health Organization (WHO), addresses issues of lab-leak theory, the origin of corona-viruses, gene mutation, and the future of gene selection.
#1979 - Dr. Aseem Malhorta
The dangers of statins, misinformation in medicine and COVID-19 hypocrisy. Solid conversation worth the listen.
#1980 - Michio Kaku
An in depth conversation on the future of quantum computing and human life. I would highly recommend listening to Eric Weinstein’s episode #1945 after this one to truly have your mind warped. How can the smartest man you ever heard speak be labeled as a kook? The world of physics is a blunder to say the least.
#1516 - Post Malone
Aliens, shrooms, music, life, and an entire carton of cigarettes. Need I say more?
#1863 - Mark Zuckerberg
The future of social networking in the midst of the age of misinformation. Although he is a pretty controversial and polarizing figure that is not liked by many in the space, this conversation gave me a lot more respect for the “person” that Mark is. Does he put up an incredible poker face? Maybe. Is he simply wrapped up in something bigger than he could ever foresee it becoming and dealing with the consequences of such a platform? Maybe that as well. Decide for yourself.
#1815 - The Black Keys
Simply a great and fun conversation… Just give this one a listen.
#1744 - More Plates More Dates
Drug testing in sports, cheating, dosing, steroids and bodybuilding.
#1733 - Ben Shapiro
Political conversation that weaves the boundaries of personal responsibility, the limitations of current liberal ideology, abortion, and much more.
#1678 - Michael Pollan
Psychedelics, plant medicine, changing your mind on new-aged therapies and plant chemistry.
#1136 - Hamilton Morris
Psychedelic research, drug use, drug reform, an overall interesting individual and great conversation.
#1593 - Dr. Carl Hart
The normalization of drug use, human psychology, substance use for grown ups, criminal persecution of drug users and the future of drug policy.
#1515 - Alex Jones & Tim Dillon
Conspiracy theories, conspiracy theories, and many many more conspiracy theories.
#1518 - David Choe
Living in the Congo amongst African Tribes, traveling across America, earning over $300 million dollars in Facebook stock and the overall experience of being the worlds most interesting man.
#1405 - Sober October 3 Recap
Any Sober October episode is always enjoyable - Motivation, limiting drug use, the benefits of abstaining from substances and returning to them, limiting dependence, great conversation, loads of fun.
#1482 - Jordan Jonas
Winning $500,000 alone in the forest with only 10 items, killing a wolverine with an axe, taking juvenile youth to Siberia - Jordan Jonas has a story worth listening to.
#1109 - Mathew Walker
The expert in all things sleep. Why we sleep, the effects of marijuana and alcohol on sleep, the importance of sleep QUALITY - An essential listen for anyone who does not prioritize their moments of rest.
#1419 - Daryl Davis
A black man who sought out interviews with members and leaders of the Ku Klux Klan. An extremely interesting listen that speaks for itself.
#317 - David Choe & Yoshi
Beating a stepmother and putting her in the hospital for 2 months, your mother killing your father and blaming suicide, porn, anal, shemales, this podcast has it all and really is one of the most ridiculous conversations ive ever heard. The last 30 minutes will leave you in a state of unease.
#1921 - Peter Zeihan
Russia, Ukraine, the end of the world as we know it. This is one of those podcasts that simply flips the narrative of the world upside down on its head.
#1999 - Robert Kennedy Jr.
Vaccine misinformation, the assassination of his father, and much larger government conspiracies.
#1981 - Pauly Shore
An overall great conversation that I never expected. Covered topics of Pauly’s mom in the relation of many comedians success, origin stories of the comedy club, Joe’s new club, and much much more. This is an episode I put off for a long time because of Pauly’s crazy nature, but I would undoubtedly listen to this again.
#2010 - Marc Andreessen
Smart people conversing about AI, the future of our civilization, the vision which is Elon Musk and much more. Fantastic guest and well worth the listen.
#05/08/2023 - Fight Companion
Eddie Bravo, Brendan Schaub, and Joe Rogan react to the Nate Diaz vs Jake Paul fight in addition to the Cory Sandhagen vs Rob Font fight. Just another great convo of the boys hanging out and having some drinks.
#2018 - Post Malone
Haven’t even listened yet and I already know that based on the 4 hour and 41 minute duration its going to be a 10/10 conversation. Such a down to earth and chill guy, we need more people like Post Malone.
#142 - JRE MMA Show - Matt Serra, Din Thomas & John Rallo
Who knew that Matt Serra was one of the funniest men on the planet. Drunk stories, injuries, fighting, life. Just an overall easy listen that you will not be disappointed with.
#141 - JRE MMA Show - Mike Perry
Former UFC fighter turned pro Bare Knuckle Boxer. Mike Perry has a soft side you need to see and an incredibly generous, intelligent, down to earth young man. Tough upbringings can build character and there’s no better example than the African American himself, Mike Perry.
#712 - Wim Hof
The power of breathing and how you can control your nervous system with the mind. Truly interesting character with some spectacular advice.
#2034 - Jeremy Jones
Professional pool player shares his stories of growing up in an industry destined for no future, only to make it out as one of the best and most successful in the business.
#2036 - Kurt Angle
Pro wrestler and olympic gold medalist describes performing several times with a broken neck and having doctors load up his neck with novocain before winning the championship. Tony Hinchcliffe joins in on this episode and is the perfect example of knowing when to speak and when to shut up.
#2037 - Alex Berenson
Ok… Maybe not one of my favourite JRE episodes of all time, but a truly entertaining conversation that is well worth the listen. Medical misinformation, the shrinking of health standards in society alongside the push to pharmaceuticals, Vince McMaan being a jacked 78 year old, and much more. Alex is one of those guys you don’t love, but have a hard time not liking. #143 - JRE MMA Show - Sean Strickland
White supremacy, guns at 14, talking his own brother into suicide, Sean Strickland is as white trash and as honest of a man as they come. This podcast took place right before becoming the current UFC Middleweight champion and it couldn’t be funnier. Sean is an absolute real one whose viewpoints while aggressive, are often times hard to disagree with. Listen to this podcast if you want a good laugh or some motivation that no matter what trajectory you are on, there are other realities worth pursuing.
#147 - JRE MMA Show - Sean O’Malley & Tim Welch
Sean’s first appearance on JRE after defeating Aljo for the Bantamweight UFC Championship of the world. Pretty interesting conversation to say the least. Won’t go down as the greatest JRE episode of all time, but it’s worth the listen.
#2044 - Sam Altman
The founder of OpenA.I. Discusses the future of ChatGPT, artificial intelligence, and how far out we are from a truly “different” society that we are in today. Very interesting conversation and a very interesting guy.
#11/22/23 - Fight Companion
In all honesty this was one of my least favourite fight companions. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t all that great either. The reason it got on this list is because this was the very first time I was able to watch a fight companion live alongside a UFC event; truly an iconic moment. Not sure how it’s taken so long, but it has finally been done and overall it was a decent episode with decent commentary. The cover art speaks for itself and will be remembered forever.
#2052 - Danny & Michael Philippou
The first podcast in a long time where Joe seems visibly annoyed at his guest throughout the course of the interview. The two are the directors of “talk to me” a highly acclaimed new aged horror film that quickly gained popularity. These two are absolute characters to say the least and based on their antics im not entirely surprised Joe was acting this way. Was it the 3 blackouts that happened throughout the conversation, or was it extreme ADHD personalty that got Joe in a strange mood? Listen and judge for yourself.
#2054 - Elon Musk
The return of the great Elon Musk. May I say more? Double pineapple and double anchovy pizza was all I needed to hear in order to add this one to the list. Not to mention Elon asking to order a pizza live on the podcast and Joe Rogan shooting a bow at the cyber truck. I’m 40 minutes in and this has potential for podcast of the year.
#528 - Michael Stevens (Vsauce)
A very entertaining listen. This conversation goes anywhere and everywhere and I loved every second of it. Joe is a fantastic host in this episode and reminds me of why I loved the early episodes of JRE so much. Great podcast!
#545 - Tony Hinchcliffe
Truly hilarious podcast. Google glass being able to analyze faces, fake cell towers creeping our privacy, and tons more random topics that are the very reason we all love the Joe Rogan podcast. Really funny episode that had a smile glued to my face while I walked the golf course late at night. “Is that google glass or are you just happy to see me?”. Also, Joe’s hate for pro wrestling really shines through on this one. We know it’s fake Joe, I think you are missing the point.
#446 - Andreas Antonopolous
A great conversation about bitcoin that had me very intrigued. Basically an everything you need to know about crypto, and why you should have invested back then, which would have made you basically a billionaire in todays world.

2081 - Diana Walsh Pasulka

Picked this one on a whim as the guests background of being a professor of religious studies sounded interesting enough. It took me until about half way through until I realized how much I enjoyed this woman speaking and found her story to be intriguing to say the least.
#2105 - Dr. Phil
Migrants willingly being sent over the border for sex work and allowed through, the pitfalls of our generation from gender politics to liberal ideology, and much much more that makes this a great conversation.
#2106 - Kid Rock
From punching a “kid” at Bohemian Grove, confronting Joe on lying that he has a Golden Shower to correct him that its a golden bathroom, to pro-Trump politics, this conversation was a fun one. It’s worth listening to just to see how awkward it got in the final moments when Joe Asked the kid what he thought about Jesus. From such a seemingly intelligent guy, his answer sure made you question just about every single thing he said leading up to that point.
#2111 - Katt Williams
Black people liking menthol being a racist question, answered through the lens of African Americans liking a strong product, this podcast was an interesting one. Katt Williams is one very intelligent man who is simultaneously one of the most controversial people in the room. Constantly calling out joes questions for being provocative or incorrect, while answering in the most conspiratorial and ambiguous way possible. Great listen, love Katt.
#2119 - James Lindsay
Borders being dissolved, US wanting China to become a threat, ultimate wealth, and Klaus Schwab being a complete weirdo, this is a must listen.
#2120 - That Mexican OT
Stumbled across this one randomly and turns out to be one of the greats. Sure there was a lot of filler at times, what do you expect from Joe talking to a rapper literally a quarter of his age, but that guy was cool and had real humility for the position he was in. Always have to respect the people who are grateful for JRE having them on and showing true love. Good talk.
#2136 - Graham Hancock & Flint Dibble
The great debate between theories of an advanced civilization to the current contemporary understanding of archeology.
#2108 - Tom Green
The godfather of podcasting himself. Tom Green is one intelligent dude who is disguised in the body of a hippy stoner. It’s interesting hearing these people who are written off easily, speak about their nuanced perspectives on a number of issues. Also defended all the Canadians out there who aren’t in support of the current Liberal administration.
#2138 - Tucker Carlson
An understood man in the modern age of controversy. Tucker is an interesting character to say the least and I truly didnt expect this conversation to go down the way it did, but what do you expect, this is the Joe Rogan Experience. From aliens, government sci-ops, all the way to Alex Jones being a trustworthy figure, this is well worth the listen.
#155 - JRE MMA Show - Max Holloway
The BMF himself appears on Joe Rogan after having the greatest knockout in UFC history vs the baddest man in UFC history.
#241 - James Bobo Fay
A podcast for all things bigfoot. When you hear someone tell Joe Rogan he is “dead wrong” for him not believing a video showing Bigfoot, I knew it had to be added to the list.
*EDIT*
Holy smokes guys this is not a ranked order first off. Second, I mentioned but most of you ignored, this is a list I only started a year or two ago and therefore is missing a lot of appearances from some of the best guests on JRE as a whole. This is simply a list of great JRE pods that I found to be really enjoyable and dumb me thought I was actually helping others out.
Also, this list is not ai generated as lots of you are assuming, it's made by me and only me. A lot of the recomendations put below are amazing and I love them, they were most likely earlier episodes that did not make the list because they were already played..
Lol this is crazy. I came back to my computer after going to the gym and I was blown away by not only how many, but how NEGATIVE the comments are. Sheesh you guys are something...
**SECOND EDIT**
Here's another edit for the actual dummies who really are set on this being a bot. First off would an AI generated list have blatant misspellings and sentences that dont even make grammatical sense? Oh let me guess that was done on purpose right?

2024.04.29 21:23 ElkImaginary566 I Can't Help But Feel Sad For My Ex-Wife w/ BPD as She is Hitting The Bottom....

My ex-wife hit all the BPD hits over the last half decade or so and it has been an extremely challenging and heart wrenching ordeal. She had absurd affairs. She was abusive and horrible to me. I had to divorce her and tried sharing custody in good faith. She sold the house and lost all the money and her jobs. She started drinking a bottle of Tito's a day. I got emergency custody of my kids...and of course it didn't inspire her to change she just spiraled more.
She cheated on the 50+ year old deadbeat dad who became her enableco-dependent. She's been in and out of rehab...
Our son tragically died and when that occurred she had disappeared and hadn't seen him as she was chasing after her fixated person after she cheated on him again...
I tried to make amends and basically gave her a mulligan after our son passed and she just got worse. She'd say she needed our daughter but wasn't a mother any more than she ever was. I can only imagine how much despair she felt considering how much I felt...
She got fired again from a job she had just gotten and then the same fixated person (50+ dead beat she cheated on me with) bailed on her when it came time to sign a lease together and she got evicted and was up at her mom's two hours away.
I have tried to keep bringing our daughter in her life but it's never enough. It's always "I stole her fucking kids" and yada yada. She went into inpatient treatment and then sober housing for 3 months and seemed to be doing better. I would give her money, pay her phone bill so she could talk to our daughter. She was lying and engaging with the aforementioned enabler the whole time....
She got kicked out of sober housing for "inappropriately touching" someone and then went off the rails again. She drove down here for a job interview (and then skipped out on seeing our daughter) and took off to live with some other guy who was friends with her enabler for about a week. She's posting pics of them on Facebook saying they are in a relationship. Then, out of nowhere she bails on that dude and is back with her enabler living in his Uncle's camper as she tries to get a job down here.
She says she is sober (who knows? Doubt it) and is demanding I drop our custody case and bring her her daughter. She is back to being vicious and telling me I killed our son (he died of a fluke illness that took him in hours and I was with him the whole time holding him and it seemed like it was just a regular cold. It was just me, my son and my daughter. He had sepsis and I didn't know it. I kill myself over it and agonize about his death endlessly).
I've been trying to pick up the pieces...I have a new significant other who is wonderful. I'm getting back into working since our son passed. My daughter and I are closer than ever since she lost her brother. I have an apartment that is nothing fancy but we are getting it back together and it's ours.
My ex - she just had her car repo'ed and she's sitting there in that camper out in the wilderness every day hysterical saying she's never been lower. She's telling me she has nothing and that I threw her away and that she hates me and yada yada. I ruined her life, etc. Her deadbeat enabler has no money somehow and she's still always trying to ask me for money....
Saw this coming years ago....
And the thing is...I know what she says is all BPD manifestation and I don't deserve any of this but I truly can't help but feel bad for her. I don't think I can do anything to help her but alas I still feel so sad and bad for her.
It may be crazy and irrational but all of that pain and sorrow and sadness that she seems to feel sure seems real. She did ruin her own life and has hurt so many people and it has to feel terrible.
Does anybody else experience this? You find a way to move on and live your life without being affected by their BPD like you did earlier on when you didn't understand what was going on but then you just feel very sad for them?
I know I can't help her and it is just so sad to me where she is when I saw long ago that she would end up there and I wasted so many years trying to stop this from happening and here we are...
I remember thinking I didn't want my kids to have to go to her funeral...and in a great tragic and cosmic irony I lost my son....I sometimes wonder if somewhere along the line....like if I hadn't taken her to the hospital last June one time....if maybe my son might still be here....
(I guess that is a tangent).
TLDR - do you ever find yourself feeling sad for your BPD ex who treated your horribly? How do you deal with that?

2024.04.29 19:05 TraditionalShop6800 A perspective.

Author - Erica Roman.
Source - https://ericaroman.me/2017/02/20/a-widows-letter-to-her-future-husband/
To the man I will share the second part of my life with,
I used to write letters to “my future husband” when I was a teenager. Back then I thought I would have one husband till death do us part. I had no idea death would part me and the man I would marry so soon.
Now I find myself writing once more: a letter to the man I will one day marry. I’d like to start off by saying I admire your courage. I am not for the faint of heart. While I am simple, I am not cheap. I do not care about diamond rings, fancy cars or high-end jobs, but loving me will require nothing less than all of you.
I want your eyes. I will not share your gaze with another. Not the waitress walking by or the women on the internet. I am not the jealous kind but I refuse to compete. I want your hands. There will be times when life will try and pull us apart and I need you to be able to hold onto us. But most of all, I want your heart. I want your greatest joys and deepest fears, your wildest dreams and guarded secrets. I don’t want you to hold anything back from me.
In return for all of you, you will receive all of me. I will show you the meaning of devotion. I will dedicate myself to learning how to love you the way you need to be loved. It will be my pleasure to take the time to discover the things that bring you pleasure. I will love you well because I know with intensity how precious your life is to me and how quickly you could be taken away.
There are some other things I want you to know before we begin. When you decide to ask me out for the first time I want you to be straight with me. Tell me exactly how you feel and what you want. I don’t have the time or energy for the games and vagueness that is the current standard of our culture. I know it takes courage to open yourself up like that but that’s exactly what I want to see: courage. You’re going to need it to embark on a life with me.
But even before you even ask me out I need you to understand that our relationship is going to be scrutinized from the beginning. I am a widow and no matter how long I wait, there are going to be people who feel like it’s too soon. A normal single person only has to worry about the opinions of a handful of people. There were nearly 300 people at my husband’s funeral. He was so well-loved. The majority of those people are going to be protective of his memory and therefore will judge you against him. People will talk about you, and analyze your life, prospects, and Facebook profile and unless you happen to be Tim Tebow, they’ll likely find you wanting. Part of this is my fault for being fairly public with my grieving process. But from what I have heard from others in my situation, unfortunately, this is pretty standard for young widows. It’s not fair to you or to me but we will have to face it nonetheless, which is why I need your courage so much.
(If anyone reading this actually knows Tim Tebow feel free to give him my number. My schedule is pretty open these days. I’m only 60% joking here.)
Along with courage, I need you to be confident in yourself. I need you to understand that I will always love my first husband, but that love does not lessen my ability to love you. There are going to be days when I miss him, I might even need you to hold me while I cry over his loss. But that doesn’t mean you are not enough or that I don’t want you. You cannot be jealous of his memory for I must keep it alive, not just for myself but for my children. I need to do everything in my power to help them know who their father was. I need you to be ok with that. I need you not to be threatened by him. He may have been my first love but you will be my last.
Speaking of my children, choosing me means choosing them. I don’t want you to think of them as your stepchildren. If you want to take on the role of my husband you need to be equally as invested in taking on the role of their father. They don’t have a daddy to visit on weekends. You will be the only daddy that they will ever know. You need to cheer for them in the audience, teach Nathan how to shave, and take Jocelyn to Daddy-Daughter dances. They are to be yours just as much as any children I may carry for you.
One final thing you must know. My faith is the most important part of me. It’s not just a segment of my life, it is woven into the fabric of my being. C. S. Lewis explained it best when he said, “I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.” My faith is the filter through which I see life. It’s how I make all of my decisions. It’s how I have survived this season without going completely insane. It’s how I want my children to be raised. I need you to be able to share that with me. You don’t have to be in the exact same place as I am in your faith journey, but I need you to at least be on the road.
(By the way, if you’re looking for a “women shall remain silent, I own you, go minister in the nursery and run bake sales” kind of wife I am most definitely not your girl. I’m more of a Deborah/ Jael kind of woman.)
These obstacles will intimidate most men, but somehow you will have managed to fight through with me and I love you already for it. I can’t tell you how much that means to me that, for some reason, you see me as worth the effort when there are so many other girls that would be so much easier to reach.
I find it confusing how I can ache for the husband I lost and at the same time long for the day that I discover who you are. It’s going to be a hard transition to loving someone new. Thank you for understanding the journey that I am on and I look forward to the adventures we will have together.
Until our life together begins,
~Erica Roman

2024.04.29 18:51 motleycruegirl Surprise Indiana Jones themed day for a boyfriend.

I would just like to thank you all for your advice and tips on my last posts. My partners birthday is actually this weekend coming. I've ordered all the bits and created bingo cards. I have ordered him an Indiana Jones hat.
Someone said it would be funny to dress up as a Grail Knight and say "I knew you would come" so after researching this person. I've ordered some props and I'm going to dust talcum powder off me and say that quote. I hope he gets it!
I'm going to decorate the living room to a jungle themed, each meal we will be eating has Indi vibes
Breakfast - Monkey brains with a lovely cup of tea Lunch - eye ball soup with freshly baked tiger bread Dinner - Boulder stew (dumplings as boulders) Pudding - "snakes, why did it have to be snakes" surprise
I've printed this out and it's in a fancy font so looks like a posh menu. Then we will watch the first 3 films and play bingo whilst we watch. I've just got some silly prices like chocolate but I think I may be able to afford the Holy Grail cup! I may order that as a prize. I got some good news today and I got the job I wanted so I think I can treat him!
Got to say I'm actually excited to watch the films for the first time. Thanks again for all your help eveybody. I will post photos on here on Saturday!

2024.04.29 18:03 mlm2126 I am 44 years old, make $124,071 as a public health professional, and I just moved to New Mexico and bought a house

I moved to New Mexico from California in January. I first visited Albuquerque a few months prior, for the Balloon Fiesta, and absolutely loved it! I loved the mountains, sunsets, green chile stew, and twinning of Hispanic and Native American cultures. I was a little bored in San Diego, and I wanted more space for myself and my dog. I had a peripatetic childhood, and every few years I get the itch to move.
A week after my move, I closed on a house. I spent the next month renovating it before moving in. Major work included updating the flooring throughout the house and updating the kitchen. While my realtor showed me glossy houses with floor to ceiling windows and pools, I opted for a quirky stucco house built in 1946 in an old growth neighborhood with a big yard. Although I moved in 2 months ago, and bought a ton of furniture, I am still buying and installing a lot of "one off" items, like a chimney cover and gate lock. I'm looking forward to the dust settling and and end to the many home purchases.
Home projects I'm considering this year include building a privacy fence--my dog is way too interested in the neighbor's cats--xeriscaping the front yard, planting fruit trees, and planting grass or some other ground cover in the back yard. In the next few years, I'm going to think about installing a hot tub or an ufuro (Japanese soaking tub) in the back yard, building an art studio or an ADU and installing solar.
I wrote a money diary a few years ago, when I got a puppy, and it includes historical information about my student loans, condo purchase, and income progression.
Real Estate
I am poised to sell my San Diego condo in four months to friends, who are currently renting from me. I am giving them a price that is significantly below market rate, and because we aren't using brokers, I will avoid realtor fees. Plus, I really like the neighborly approach of selling to friends. After my move to New Mexico, I agonized over renting it out permanently. In the end, I didn't want the expense and the risk of renting it out, and I did not want to to be a landlord. I also had the strong sense that I do not want to live there again in the future. Although I drafted spreadsheet after spreadsheet with various financial scenarios, in the end, it was a gut decision.
I have a mortgage on my condo and a HELOC, which I used for the downpayment and renovations on my house. I also have a mortgage on my New Mexico house. When I sell my condo, I will pay off the condo mortgage and HELOC. After the sale, I have some options with what to do with the net proceeds: pay off the mortgage on my New Mexico house, fund some home upgrade projects, save for retirement, buy land to build in the mountains or some combination of these ideas.
What would you do?

I'm a public health professional, and I love my job! I've worked at the same company for 12 years, and my job is portable--I've brought it with me to Brooklyn, San Diego and now ABQ.

Monday
Before I start work, a landscaper drops by to take a look at my yard. I'm gathering quotes and ideas, and I show him around.
My last work meeting ends at 2:00p. I can tell my dog is bored, because he's been trying to play with the cat. "She'll never play with you," I tell him. Once my work is done, I feed my cat her "half dinner" so she doesn't feel deprived, and I take my dog for a hike in the Sandia mountains on a pine shaded trail. I've been going to this open space area weekly, and today I pay for for an annual pass ($30) so I don't have to deal with dollar bills in little envelopes. The weather is perfect. My trail running shoes are old and I need a new pair, as well as hiking boots for my trek to Havasupai Falls later this year.
On the way home, I stop at a tractor supply store to see if they have the grass cutting sheers that I need. Because they don't, I'm going to order them online.
For dinner, I make potato poblano quesadillas have a glass of wine, and have mint chocolate malt balls for dessert. The cat receives her second half dinner. I purchase hiking boots, trail running shoes, and snow boots (which I wish I'd had in January) for $152. I want a fancy cart for my garden hose, and it is on sale, but I decide to make do with my old garden hose for now and keep looking on Facebook Marketplace. I buy the grass sheers and two window alarms for $52.
Daily total: park pass $30, boots (3 pairs) $152, home and garden supplies $52
Tuesday
Today is hot and sunny day. My meeting schedule is light, and I have time to get to the bottom of both my to do list and my inbox. Breakfast is a smoothie with homemade yogurt, bananas, cherries and spinach. I do some nosework practice with my dog. He is learning to stick his nose in a box containing a mix of essential oils (birch, clove). We do group nosework classes, and I hope that having a job will build his confidence and reduce his reactivity.
The landscaper arrives, this time with his architect, and we talk about ideas--a rock river, low-water plants, a drip irrigation system, a Crape Myrtle tree in my courtyard, fig and peach trees in the back yard.
After work, I take my dog to Tingley beach, a series of ponds. We walk the trails by the Rio Grande. It's hot, and he dips his paws in the river. To his surpise, he's immediately in water up to his chest. He is so excited by this event that he zoomies me up the trail. It's the most thrilling thing to happen to him today! After a few miles of walking, we drive home, with a stop at the car wash (included in my car wash membership). I water my vegetable garden. The tomatoes look happy, and the basil is coming up, but the cucumbers are struggling and the strawberries look burnt.
I go to Costco to pick up my prescription sunglasses ($55 after insurance, paid for previously with my HSA account). I also buy a bottle of rose ($17) and get gas ($33). Every time I get gas in New Mexico, I think "$20 in my pocket," as compared to California prices.
Dinner is a simple Caesar salad. I make salt and pepper skillet croutons and have a Pacifico with a slice of lemon.
Daily total: Gas $33, wine $17
Wednesday
I have a long and interesting anti-trust training at work, followed by client meetings. Lunch is homemade roasted poblano enchiladas. I realized that I have been eating Amy's enchiladas a few times a week, and, on Sunday, I approximated the recipe using the ingredients on the box. I think I got pretty close! I made 9 servings, which I froze. While delicious, I'm not sure if it is worth it from a frugal standpoint, as I saved $30 or 50% over the cost of the frozen dinners--not super impressive for an afternoon of work.
In the afternoon, my dog and I have a dog training session (prepaid $1,000 for 6 sessions). Our trainer has great credentials and loves huskies. The sessions are super expensive, but they will be worth it if he can learn to meet new friends in the house without fear. Training is going very, very slowly. The trainer tries to move closer to him while keeping under the reactive threshold, desensitizing him to her presence. Today, we only make it as far as the courtyard.
After training, I go to watch "Civil War" with a friend. Because he bought tickets last time, I buy two tickets ($21). A weird tradition in ABQ is to buy a pickle at the movies, and I get a kosher dill ($3). I brought a flask with an old fashioned made from my favorite aged rum, Zacapa 23, and chocolate bitters, and he brings Tequila Rose. It's juvenile, I know, but fun.
Still shellshocked after the movie, I drop into pet store and buy a clicker for nosework. At $11, it's ridiculously expensive for a plastic piece, and in retrospect, I'll probably return it. I would have had better sense if my brain wasn't stuck in the movie world of the American dystopia. I buy a few groceries--lettuce, coconut water, pesto, crackers, mozzeralla and a small container of Greek yogurt to use as starter ($24). Dinner is grilled cheese sandwiches with tomatoes and basil and a glass of red wine.
Daily total: Movie tickets $21, pickle $3, dog clicker $11, groceries $24
Thursday
While I make my coffee, I heat up milk for yogurt to 160 degrees and put it on the back of the stove, well away from my pup, who loves dairy. Today my work schedule is jam-packed. After work, I take my dog for a 3 mile walk in an open space area around several farms. Back at home, I have 15 minutes before I leave for hot yoga. It's enough time to finish making the yogurt. The milk has cooled to 100 degrees. I stir in a spoonful of plain Greek yogurt and divide the mixture in three quart size jars, which I have pre-warmed with hot water. I leave the jars along with a Nalgene of hot water in a small cooler and let the bacteria do their work.
After my very hot yoga class (prepaid $30 for 30 days), I stop by Whole Foods and buy a green chile beef burger, mangos, coconut water, cherries, cucumbers, milk, some Amy's dinners and a Reisling ($50).
Daily total: Groceries: $50
Friday
The homemade yogurt is thick and creamy. I refill the hot water bottle and leave it for another 8 hours to increase the acidity. While I try to practice "Focus Fridays," I somehow have 6 meetings on my calendar. I'll be leaving for the country's largest powpow, the Gathering of Nations, in the afternoon, and I know my dog needs some exercise before I go. We walk around the neighborhood, and then I take him to Petco for some mental stimulation. I buy cat treats, smoked rib bones and a $4 clicker. I return the $11 clicker ($8 total).
Before I leave, I tape a rib bone in box for him to demolish. He's so good at this that he has the bone out of the box before I'm out of the door. I text a friend who is already at the event, and she says they are strict about unopened water bottles. I stop at a gas station and buy a bottle of water, and on a whim, a lottery ticket. $3. The ticket price for the Gathering of Nations is $30 and parking is $20.
I miss the horse parade, but the entry of dancers is like nothing I've ever seen: 1,000 dancers in regalia dancing to 17 drum circles, led by an eagle staff. Not only are 500+ tribes from across the US and Canada in attendance, but there are also Native Hawaiians and Maori attendees, among other First Nations. Outside of the coliseum, it's cool to see people in full regalia with ankle bells, walking around the grounds, ordering hot dogs and ice cream . I have an Indian Taco (taco fixings on fry bread) for the first time and cherry pie ($18). I also get a funnel cake for $19, which seems super expensive. There's a market with Native-made handicrafts, and and I buy a pair Quahog clam shell earrings for $20. It's one of coolest events I've ever been to: a celebration of Native American cultures where all are welcome.
Daily total: Pets: $8, Gathering of Nations entry and parking: $50, Food: $40, Earrings: $20
Saturday
I take my dog to the open space area for a long walk before I leave for a nosework competition in rural New Mexico. I've never been to one, but my nosework teacher is serving as a judge, and, when I expressed interest, she volunteered me. It turns out that volunteering is a great way to observe. I'm assisting in a "detective" indoooutdoor competition, where dogs have to find 10 hidden scents within 9 minutes. It's clear to me that so much depends on communication between the guardian and the dog.
From my field guide to New Mexico eating and drinking, I learn that there is a brewery hidden in this town, and I belly up to the bar. I try a few beers and bring home a six pack of cherry wheat beer for $11. At home, it has started to rain. Dinner is green chile stew, which I made previously. While classic green chile stew contains pork, I used a a small ribeye instead, and double up on the vegetables. I pair it with jalepeno cornbread (not homemade).
We do "Saturday nights at the movies" at home. I can't bring myself to watch a Holocaust movie, so I curl up and watch "Juliet, Naked" with my dog.
Daily total: Beer: $11
Sunday
I wake up with a scratchy throat. I was going to attend the University of New Mexico powwow that is scheduled as less commercialized counter program to the Gathering of Nations, but I text my friend to say I'm going to lie low instead and rest.
I do an hour of online yoga and 20 minutes of physical therapy from Kaia, an app that I can access from my health plan. I love it--the at home therapy has helped me avoid yet another round of in-person physical therapy. I keep my dog in place on his cot as I do this. As recommended by his trainer, I'm emphasizing self-calming behavior. I know he needs some attention, so we do some nosework practice and I brush his coat. Then, I take him to one of his favorite place, the UNM campus with a duck pond. We walk around, and I reward him for self control--for example, seeing another dog and not reacting--with very small bits of cheese.
At the nearby Frontier restaurant, I order a beef enchilada plate with green chile stew, a soda and a dozen tortillas to go for $19. It's the restaurant where I had my first meal in ABQ, after 14 hours of driving, and it turned out to be a winner!
Back at home, I open Reddit to write my money diary. A request in freemeal catches my eye, and I send a fellow redditor cat litter, cat food and cat treats for $39. In the gift message, I say "From my kitty to your kitties," although I know my cat would never give away salmon treats.
Daily total: Lunch: $19; Donation: $39
All expenses by Category (Total $481)
Reflections
This was a heavier spend week for me, particularly in Fun / Entertainment and Food + Drink, mostly due to the Gathering of Nations event. This was a slice of life money diary and it's accurate to my place in life--new to New Mexico and spending a significant amount of money for real estate, home items, and pet-related items.

Jellycatplush Authenticity Guide part one
By popular demand, here is our guide to help you figure out if your Jellycat is a fake.
Disclaimer: This guide is not comprehensive and the information may change as needed or as more becomes available. Because the modding team cannot buy every single Jellycat plushie out there, including new ones, we don’t always have all the information on every new plushie. If you feel this guide is missing any information, please feel free to reach out to the mods. We can improve resources like this with your help.
This guide is meant to help people who are anxious about their plushie being a fake. In our experience, most of the plushies that people worry about aren’t fakes. However, there are a lot of knockoff Jellycats out there, and occasionally fakes do get posted on the subreddit.
As of April 29, 2024, we will be redirecting all questions about fakes to this post. Please read the information provided below before asking any questions! Thank you.
The quickest way of checking is usually to compare the tags. But to know for sure, we recommend checking the following things if you think you may have a fake:

Signs of fakes

New design
How old is this Jellycat design? Fakes have only really started to be a problem within the last few years, and a lot of designs do not have fake counterparts. Usually the popular designs will get fakes instead. Some examples of popular designs with bootlegs: the lying dragons, Bartholomew Bear, Bashful Bunnies, the Littles, the older food Amuseables. However, this is not a complete list.
Jellycats that were released very recently likely do not have fakes yet - it typically takes a few months to get a bootleg produced. If some of the information here does not match with a newly released Jellycat, you can rest assured that it doesn’t mean that the design already got bootlegged (very unlikely). It is more likely that certain information has changed or tags look different.
For dates about when a (newer) Jellycat was released, we recommend checking the database https://jellycollector.com/ These are mostly accurate. It is not an archive of all Jellycats, but does list the ones released in the last few years.
Where did you buy it?
If you bought this plushie from AliExpress, Wish, Temu or similar discount marketplaces, it is 100% a fake. Likewise, sellers on sites like eBay who are selling many of one design are more likely to be counterfeiters.
Websites that cannot be found on Jellycat’s Store Finder as reputable sellers https://www.jellycat.com/storelocato might not be selling authentic products. If a website isn’t listed in the shopfinder, confirm they have a brick-and-mortar location (Jellycat does not authorise online-only retailers) and check their online reviews on TrustPilot, Google reviews or similar.
Jellycats bought secondhand may also be fakes if you did not know what to look out for. Most Chinese listings on Ebay are bootlegs: keep an eye out when buying second-hand plushies. If you are unsure if a plushie is genuine, check the tags before buying, or ask the seller for clear tag pictures if needed, etc. Again: Jellycats that were released very recently do not have fakes yet, and a lot of older designs (except for Bashfuls) do not have fakes as far as we know. This guide should provide all the info you need to recognize a fake Jellycat on sight. Lastly, if there is no photo provided for a secondhand listing, do not buy.
“Too good to be true” Pricing, 50-70% off sales
If you got a “new” Jellycat for a price that seems too good to be true, it is likely a bootleg. A lot of new websites have been popping up to sell “genuine” Jellycats – most of them seem to just steal your money or personal data, but from what we can tell, some sell knockoffs instead. These websites mainly advertise on Instagram. They claim to have a giant sale going on, usually 50-70% off or even more.. Real retailers may have sales, but usually only 20-30% off at most. Seasonal items may be sold for much less once they are out of season (for example the Christmas range in January), but they are usually the exception.
You can read more about scam sites in our guide here: Do NOT buy Jellycats through Instagram ads! Watch out for scam sites!
As of April 2024, the real Jellycat website has never had sales. Ever.
Any websites pretending to be https://www.jellycat.com/ should be avoided! This is the only real Jellycat website. Retailers have their own websites, with their own branding, they do not pretend to be jellycat.com. If you fell for such a scam and ended up actually getting something in the mail as opposed to just having your money or data stolen, that is almost certainly a fake.
Build Quality
If your recently purchased plushie keeps continuously falling apart (losing limbs, ears, lots of holes, tears and rips), then you most likely purchased a bootleg. This is especially true if you are the first owner. Jellycats are sturdily made to withstand quite a lot of love from small children, and are unlikely to have continuous problems within a short amount of time. Do check for other signs that this plushie is a bootleg, but know that this kind of build quality is one of the main signs of a fake.
Facial discrepancies
Compare the face to other plushies of the same kind and size on the subreddit if you suspect it is a fake. Proportions can differ per sizes. Take note of the nose & eye shape, size and placement. While natural variation does occur because Jellycat faces are made by hand, knockoffs often look very “wrong”.
For Bashful Bunnies: the noses are a very light pink, anything darker than that is almost always a fake.
Fur Quality
This is something that is challenging for newer Jellycat fans to check for, but if your Jellycat’s fur feels or looks wrong, it may be a fake, especially if the fur feels much cheaper or coarser than expected for such a design. Bootlegs may also have the wrong fur length or not be as thick.
Please note that things like dyes affect how fur feels as well, for example black dyed plushies are often said to be “smoothesilkier” than their lighter counterparts.
If your plushie is secondhand, their fur feeling “off” may be because they are in a “used” state and may need some tlc. We have a washing guide here https://www.reddit.com/jellycatplush/wiki/washing that should give you all the information you need to revive your plushie.
Secondhand plushies may also feel “off” due to dryer burn. Plushies with dryer burn are often on the frizzy side, and their softness cannot be returned by washing them or brushing them. They are frizzier than others. This is not a sign of a fake, just a sign of someone having washed this plushie and having been careless with drying them. This damage is unfortunately irreversible and not all sellers know that they shouldn’t put Jellycats in the dryer.
Sizes that do not exist officially
Jellycats usually come in a few specific sizes. If your plushie comes in a size that does not exist, (for example, if it is way too big for a “Large” Jellycat and that is the largest size that exists)
The new Jellycat website (not launched in the US or UK yet as of April 2024) has very detailed information on sizing. Allow for a couple of cm or an inch of difference depending on the accuracy of your ruler or measuring tape, but if your plushie is very different from the listed dimensions, it may be a fake.
https://preview.redd.it/pdwbykycufxc1.png?width=953&format=png&auto=webp&s=dccc008f12f214e860c1c511ef774346df7cd465
We especially recommend using the listed “Dimensions” and not the “Sitting Height”, as Sitting Height does not include the legs at all and can be a little confusing to measure.
We recommend checking the How We Measure guide as well: https://eu.jellycat.com/how-we-measure. It will show you how to measure your Jellycat correctly. This guide is for the new website (EU/rest of the world) and should be coming to the US and UK sites soon.
The best way to find out which sizes your Jellycat comes in is to check online. Googling may be the best bet here, i.e. googling Large Clyde returns just “Clyde Capybara” results, showing that there is currently only one size available for Clyde Capybara. Any that are very different from the listed dimensions are a fake, assuming no new sizes have been leaked or announced.
Colours that do not exist officially or have long been retired
If your plushie comes in a colour that isn’t officially available nor announced/leaked, it is a fake. (For example, a Bashful Dragon that is white instead of sage green is 100% a fake)
Additionally, long retired plushies for sale in online stores are usually also fakes. (They can also be scams, you may lose your money if you buy from these sites!)
For example, if you bought a Bashful Iris Bunny listed from an online store, it is most likely a fake, as Bashful Iris Bunny was retired in 2019 and is thus no longer available in any stores.
When a plushie is more recently retired, it is still possible to find one in a store (it is more likely to find a retired plushie in a physical store that does not have a website), but for a plushie retired in 2019, it would be highly unlikely that one would still find one in stock anywhere. The only way to get one would be to buy it secondhand or hope that Jellycat rereleases the colour.
https://jellycollector.com/ should have fairly accurate dates for retirement.
Bashful Iris Bunny:

Beans
Almost every Jellycat has “beans” (plastic pellets) in it to weigh it down so that it can sit neatly. The exceptions to this are very specific designs such as Jolly Gingerbread Fred and Ruby, Skeleton Bob, and the occasional tiny Jellycat.
Newer keychains typically do not have beans, however some older designs do.
Jellycats made for babies often do not have beans either.
If your medium or bigger sized plushie isn’t listed as one of the exceptions and has no beans, it may be a fake.
The new website (not launched in the US or UK yet as of April 2024) has information on whether or not your design has beans. This can be used to identify fakes.
https://preview.redd.it/rtp9wymfufxc1.png?width=958&format=png&auto=webp&s=6e6e22973e33f18bb38dae2e2fa5e7de4ed98ef5
Baby Jellycat, Jellykitten and Little Jellycat
These are/were sub-brands owned by Jellycat and are authentic. They are brands that specifically make plushies meant for babies and young children.
Manhattan Toy Company
This is not a subset of Jellycat. You can read about this in our FAQ, but Manhattan Toy Company plushies are not authentic Jellycats and not on topic for the subreddit.
Locations of Jellycat factories
As of April 2024, we currently know of the following countries that produce Jellycats:
Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, and China
For any newer Jellycats, the tag will list where it was manufactured. If your plushie was produced in a country that isn’t listed here, it is likely a fake.

Tags

If your plushie does not have a Jellycat fabric tag it is either: A, a fake, or B, a secondhand plushie that had its fabric tag cut off. If the latter, you will likely still be able to see the white remnants of the tag in the fur. We cannot guarantee that secondhand plushies without fabric tags are authentic.
If a different name or logo is listed on the fabric tag, then it is not a Jellycat. An example of this is “KoBonnie”, a Chinese brand that produces Jellycat knockoffs.
Paper Tags
Paper tags should match the product. For example: a Bashful Tulip Bunny with a Bashful Silver Bunny tag is cause for concern.
Paper tags with lowercase names exist, especially for Jellycats that were made for babies. (soothers, teethers, etc)
Slight printing errors (i.e. Amusables vs. Amuseable) are not immediately a cause for concern.
Newer paper tags are attached with string, as part of the fabric tag bundle. Old paper tags were attached with plastic, typically to an ear.
Check if the product code listed on the paper tag matches the product and size. For example, if a Large Smudge Elephant had a paper tag with a Medium Smudge elephant code on it. (Large would be SMGL2E, Medium would be SMG2EL)
These codes can be found on the website:
https://preview.redd.it/9btwuxthufxc1.png?width=440&format=png&auto=webp&s=9cb2e0008446c11b9f4a3ff6b9cd283201c9eae6
On the new website, you can find the product code in the Product Details section:
https://preview.redd.it/eik8vphiufxc1.png?width=975&format=png&auto=webp&s=570783bb93b958a42fdc505fea4e7abdddca9018
It may be more challenging to find these codes online for older, long retired designs, but older Jellycats often don’t have fakes to begin with.

Authentic Paper Tags

Paper tags are easier to copy for bootleg companies, fabric tags are not as easily copied.
Authentic Paper tags will have:
  • A product code at the top (i.e. BASS6PLUM, the product code for Small Bashful Plum Bunny as it was listed on the website)
  • “I am” plus the name of the plushie, note that the size is listed if it is a plushie that has more than one size available. Medium sized plushies may not have a size listed, it is often considered the default size and thus would often read “I am Smudge Bunny” instead of “I am Medium Smudge Bunny”. Sometimes this is in lowercase letters, especially for items from the Little Jellycat and Jellykitten brands.
  • Some tags may just list the name instead, not having “I am” on the tag.
  • Most will have “Please look after me” and three icons.
  • A barcode.
https://preview.redd.it/2qg1q5djufxc1.png?width=553&format=png&auto=webp&s=4ccd126e965487fc9687f154281cb07b97e82185
Newer special edition paper tags look a little bit different, they will be listed among the pictures below along with what special edition they were made for.

Authentic Non-English Paper Tags

Non-English paper tags do exist for Jellycats sold in certain parts of the world, for example in Singapore. They are not immediately a sign of a fake. Check if the other information matches.
The following examples are from Singapore and are written in Chinese. They have Chinese address details, but the tag listing the product name is still in English: (the fabric tags for this plushie were also written in English, not Chinese). The additional paper tag was likely added by an importedistributor.
https://preview.redd.it/fb9niorlufxc1.png?width=975&format=png&auto=webp&s=aeb33e93f22748c45d19d9e661aef1ef43fed690

Amount of tags
Authentic Jellycats come with a bunch of fabric tags.
These will list the following information:
  • Copyright information
  • Washing advice + where it was made
  • CE + UKCA safety standard marks
  • If the plushie is suitable from birth or a different age
  • Information about materials
  • A Jellycat batch code, usually on a smaller fabric tag, usually beginning with JELLY, J-, J, JCINC, EC, and then a bunch of numbers.
If your plushie does not have any additional fabric tags, but just the logo, it is a fake.
Very old Jellycats may have less information, but also have more than one fabric tag.

For newly released Jellycats: double sided batch code + product code:
Only newly released Jellycats have a double sided batch + product code! From what we can tell, this change happened sometime around mid to late 2023. There are some 2023 Halloween plushies that have the double sided tag, others do not.
We do not know if all newly released Jellycats will have a double sided tag, we assume they will, however.
As of April 2024, there will still be Jellycats in circulation that do not have a product code listed on the other side of the batch code tag, this does not mean they are a fake, more likely just older stock. All Jellycats should have a batch code, however. This is the code that usually begins with JELLY, but may also be J-, J, JCINC, EC, or something else, and then a bunch of numbers.
Even the very oldest Jellycats from 1999 have a batch code. (usually very faded and worn)

Pictures of Authentic Tags

Due to an image limit of 20 per post, we have had to break up this post into multiple parts. You can find these pictures here in part two of this post.

This space is reserved for additional newer tags.

Additional Newer Tags: Baby Jellycat

Newly launched collection in April 2024. This is listed to have as much information as possible for the future.

Older Tags

There are many different older tag variations as well. We do not believe there are many old Jellycat knockoffs, and due to the limit of 20 images per post we have had to separate this into multiple parts. We have compiled an additional resource post on which you can find older Jellycat tags.
Little Jellycat tags and Jellykitten tags will be in the additional post.

In case all the information is a bit overwhelming, we have made a handy checklist.

Jellycat Fakes Checklist:

  • Check where it was bought and how recently this plushie was released
  • Check if build quality is exceptionally bad
  • Check for significant facial discrepancies compared to other plushies of the same kind and size on the subreddit
  • Check fur quality (this can be skipped if you are a newer to Jellycat)
  • Check if the sizing of your plushie matches what is officially available
  • Check for beans for medium and bigger plushies
  • Check for branding and subsets of Jellycat (Little Jellycat, Jellykitten, Baby Jellycat)
  • Check tags, including paper tags and the information found on them (especially product codes) and check if your Jellycat has the correct information on the fabric tags as well. Compare logos, logo text and fonts to the examples of authentic tags found in this guide. Put photos side by side in an image editing app if you are having problems comparing your tags to our examples.

Fakes FAQ

My Jellycat was made in China, does this mean it is a fake?
Not necessarily, as authentic Jellycats are produced in China (and a bunch of other countries) as well. You will need to check other things (logos, paper tags and codes listed there, batch codes, fur type, etc.) to know if this is a fake or not.
Why not buy a fake instead? They are cheap.
While of course this is up to everyone to decide for themselves, we urge everyone to reconsider buying fakes. Why?
Firstly, Jellycat is committed to producing their products safely and ethically. https://www.jellycat.com/modern-slavery-statement/, in all parts of their supply chain. We feel the same cannot be said for counterfeit products. (read the link for more information – it is a good read.)
Secondly, Jellycats are thoroughly tested to be safe for all ages. There are no guarantees that a fake would be tested to the same standards, and these products are likely produced in a very unsafe environment. Fabrics that are produced without quality standards have the potential to be toxic, with chemicals such as lead, PFAS, and phthalates. https://www.theguardian.com/fashion/2023/jul/02/fashion-chemicals-pfas-bpa-toxic
Therefore we would not recommend purposely seeking out fakes. If you want cheaper Jellycats, we suggest buying secondhand instead. Your local secondhand marketplace (Facebook marketplace, Mercari, Vinted, Poshmark etc.) likely has some affordable Jellycats, you may just need a little bit of patience.
Do fakes with Jellycat tags exist? I read that bootlegs do not have any Jellycat tags.
While a lot of fakes do not have tags, there are bootlegs out there that try to reproduce Jellycat tags so that they can be sold as though they were authentic, for the full price.
Here is an example of a “Large Smudge Elephant” with a fake Jellycat tag:
https://preview.redd.it/wfau18e8hexc1.png?width=476&format=png&auto=webp&s=4058ab0fecfc2b9f53c832ddc49a157de15967d9
The differences are subtle, but we are 100% confident that this plushie is a fake. There were multiple signs for this particular one: the fur is too long and looks off, the paper tag did not match the product exactly, (wrong product code), the product code on the fabric tag led to a Bartholomew Bear, and the fabric tag was in the wrong place for a Smudge Elephant.
But surely bootlegs would not bother to reproduce all the fabric tags?
Some do, as said before. We believe they are trying to scam customers out of their money by trying to pass off plushies as authentic. Check to see if all the logos look correct and if the other information matches.
My Jellycat has a batch code that doesn’t start with JELLY, is this a fake?
There are batch codes that don’t start with JELLY, so no, this doesn’t have to mean it is a fake. We recommend doing the other checks to see if this plushie is a fake or not. Bootleg companies can and do copy authentic batch codes, so batch codes may not be the best way to know.
I got a Jellycat from an official retailer that has a mismatched tag/product code! Did an official retailer sell me a fake? Did I get scammed?
It is highly unlikely that an official retailer sold you a fake, we firmly believe they would not jeopardize their ability to sell official products that way. If you got a Jellycat from an official retailer with a mismatched product code or paper tag, that is likely just a mistake – it does happen! If you’re anxious about it being a fake, though, we recommend doing the other checks (listed above) yourself – all other information should/will line up. However, we truly don’t believe official retailers would ever do this.
My Jellycat does not have a double-sided batch code with a product code on the other side! Is this a fake?
Likely not. There are still Jellycats in circulation with only a batch code on their fabric tags, not a product code. If this is the only “off” thing you can find, it is likely just a Jellycat that was produced before the switch to double-sided tags was made.
I don’t know where my plushie was bought! Can this guide still help me?
The guide can still help, but this can make it a little more difficult to identify if the plushie is authentic or not. There are likely still other details that are off even if you don’t know where you bought it. Some plushies are very obviously fakes. There are a couple out there that are very convincing, however. This is why knowing where the plushie was bought is very important. If at all possible, you should try to figure this out.
I’m certain I bought a fake! What should I do?
If you’re certain you bought a knockoff from an online store (not AliExpress, Temu, Wish or something similar, but a storefront pretending to be a genuine retailer or pretending to be the genuine Jellycat website) we recommend sending this information along with proof to Jellycat customer support. They can pass the information along to the relevant departments if they decide it’s needed.
Other than that, we suggest trying to get a refund. If you paid with Paypal, you may be able to open a dispute for your payment. Otherwise, you may have to take it up with your bank or cc company.

Thank you for reading. We hope that this guide has been helpful to you. 😊
If you have any other questions that have not been answered yet, please ask them below.
If there are any new tags that aren’t listed in this post that you are 100% sure are authentic, feel free to message clear photos to us.

2024.04.29 16:53 thankyourob Tips for Bathroom Remodel?

Wife and I are planning a complete gut/remodel of our main family bathroom, guessing it was redone in the late 70's/early 80's. We can't afford one of these big companies to do the work, quotes from them ranged from $32k-$50k for a pretty standard sized bathroom. We're not trying to do anything "fancy" or modern. We found some local contractors and whittled it down to a local guy that came very highly recommended from neighbors, Nextdoor and Facebook.
The issue is he's not a designer, which is fine...but we don't know where to start. We found some tile we like, but then, does that go with this flooring? Does that go with this vanity? Its all overwhelming. What do you traditionally start with? A vanity? Then go from there? Wall colors? Flooring? Any tips would be appreciated!

2024.04.29 13:54 WWonderer298 The Bride who couldn't catch a break

Hi Charlotte, love your content. You're a great storyteller and hilarious human. All the best for you, lovely lady.
Over 10 years ago, I (34F) was a bridesmaid for a good friend from high school and her dream had always been to be a Bride. This is a long post, so buckle in.
1. Maid of Honour abandons the bride
The Bride's Maid of Honour was a girl from our high school friend group and it made sense because she and Bride had remained close friends after school.
The Bride was planning a beach wedding and the overall vibe was going to be low-key and classic, with a cream and blue colour scheme. Us bridesmaids had promised to pay for our own dresses, and the Bride's only stipulation was that we would all have the same dress, and she promised it wouldn't be expensive or overly fancy, so we could wear it to more events.
After University, I'd got my first job in a town 700km (435 miles) away, and the MoH drove her and the Bride down to visit me and include me in initial wedding dress shopping because I'd already missed out on early wedding planning.
That first night of the visit is when the cracks began to form. MoH started in with a couple of passive aggressive remarks asking "why couldn't I have a different dress to the other bridesmaids". I remember she wanted a purple formal number, which wasn't going to match the theme or colour scheme. We talked it out, saying the wedding dress should come first, so we could then choose our dress to match her style.
The next day, the Bride found a couple of options she really liked and unfortunately, MoH found a dress just like she wanted: purple, formal, floor-length. Seeing it, it wasn't going to match the theme. Bride reiterated her wishes and the MoH shut down and refused to participate in the rest of the shopping.
We finished up and went back to my house, and MoH started a full-blown argument with Bride, which ended with her getting in her car and leaving. MoH literally drove the 7 hours back to our hometown and wouldn't answer our calls, stranding the Bride in my town.
Bride was distraught as you can imagine, and had no way home, as flights were crazy expensive. She stayed an extra night and I paid for her bus ticket because I felt bad I couldn't take time off work to drive her home.
As you can probably guess, the MoH was disinvited from the wedding, and the Bride's soon-to-be sister-in-law became the new MoH. She did ask me, but because I lived so far away, I couldn't commit to it. I did go home to do bridesmaid dress shopping with the Bride and the other bridesmaids, and we found a cute dress that matched the theme. I wore mine many times after the wedding, including to work and other functions.
2. Wedding photographer from hell
Day of the wedding, I arrived last of the bridesmaids almost an hour after hair and make up had started (I had moved since the MoH fiasco and then only lived 2 hours from our hometown, and only 30 minutes from the wedding venue). The Bride and her family were in a state because the wedding photographer still hadn't shown up. Because I was already dressed, had done my hair and make up at home (with Bride's permission) and had my work camera in my car, I offered to take photos while they got ready and the sister-in-law MoH kept calling the wedding photographer. While I'm good with a camera, I'm not wedding-photography good, but it was better than nothing.
The photographer and her husband arrived just as we were about to start the wedding, and it was very clear that her husband was high. He just sat off to the side as she worked and the rest of the wedding went off without a hitch. Bride and Groom had a great time, and the reception was wonderful.
Photographer terribleness didn't end there though, because about a month later, the Bride reached out to our school friend group to ask if we had any photos. The wedding photographer had stopped answering calls, hadn't provided the newlyweds with their photos and had deleted their Facebook page. So, my friend only had photos that I'd taken, a couple of sample photos the photographer had sent of the ceremony before she went AWOL, and what friends and family took at the reception. She never got her photos, or her money back.

Bride was a champ through it all and should be commended for everything she had to put up with.
PS: Bride and the original MoH did make up several years later and are still friends today. It's a pity she missed the wedding, but it's all water under the bridge.

2024.04.29 05:57 OMADKetoKid Reached out of 17 years. She wont tell me if shes married.

There is a lot to unpack here, so I'll try to keep it small. The person I am speaking about is my first love; we were both first loves for each other. She was 16, and I was 19. Her mom at the time would let me stay over late, and we were close. We were firsts for everything. She then realized she was attractive, and then broke it off with me and hooked up with a guy I couldn't stand. It shattered me. I tried to make it work, becoming insecure and paranoid. We then became on and off for the next seven years. Very toxic, and looking back on the whole thing, I was weak. I had a terrible childhood and grew up very poor. She was well off (brand new cars, parents paid for fancy college, dorm, etc.). I never fully forgot her, and we never said goodbye. Just one day, she never replied or responded to my calls/emails, etc. (2007, before ex no contact was a thing). I moved away for a few years and came back, and I finally let her go.
Now fast forward. I have a family, a nice wife, two awesome kids. I still think of her; sometimes I'll just be doing something and a song will come on, and I will pause and think of her when the times were good. I think our relationship was predicated on deep emotional intimacy, probably stemming from being first loves. I never really found that, even with my wife; I never really get that "super ultra intense I need you" feeling. So, when I think of her, I also think of those moments. I miss that intensity.
I contacted her in January; I sent an email to an old address, and she replied near immediately. I then followed up, telling her I would like to see how we changed and learn about how we changed as people and parents. No reply. Then, a month later, I decided to message her on Facebook. Now, prior to sending her that initial email, she had a friend button; after sending the email, her "add friend" button disappeared, and I also noticed she appeared to remove some tagged posts. No biggie, I would not want to be her Facebook friend anyway; she has some guy in the pictures with her and three children. I messaged her, and at first, she was very what I would describe as distant but very responsive. Then gradually she warmed up, and I was sending her small videos of myself, and she said she was so happy I reached out to her after all these years. "It's so surreal to hear from you again; it's like I am dreaming," "the times we shared were so intense, it felt so good, I start to feel like I am there with you again, but I can't out of respect" (not sure what she meant; I didn't ask her to elaborate; I didn't want things to turn sexual). Those are a few of the comments that stood out. We talk about memories and funny things that happened. We would talk about once a week on Facebook Messenger.
But here is the weird part; every time I ask her about her relationship status, she either doesn't answer or changes the subject. This last time, I told her I couldn't really move forward without knowing if she is married. (Her last name has never changed, and there is nothing to indicate she is still in a current relationship.) She flipped out, said it is none of my business, she can't share whatever she wants, and when I said, "in my defense, marriage is a very public thing," "I have always wondered all these years if you found someone who loved you," she said I am the same person I used to be, and she finds my request for her marital status "disturbing"; she then restricted me on messenger (not a real block) Literally was going well right up to that.
I am actually not sad it went sideways over a seemingly simple request. It very much was similar to how it used to be (I would ask for something simple, and she would flip out and say I am asking for too much and disappear for a few days). The feeling of walking on egg shells was something I had completely forgotten about.
I am actually glad this is over. But I can't get over why her marital status is such a big deal. In my mind, I think she knows if I knew, I might stop messaging her. I also thinks she may be real narcissist. ( I know everyone says that but I don't have this issue with other exes.)
PS. One of the reasons I reached out. I was kind of hoping for a sorry from her. (Never got it)

2024.04.29 04:52 Erwinblackthorn You're Doing Cover Art Wrong

Recently, there was a big hullabaloo about a very specific book called The Rage of Dragons, made by a small publisher through a kickstarter. The art on the cover can easily be described as hideous and their post about how you should shell out over $1k for the art of a book was quickly discredited by indie writers. The book was already liked by a crowd, this kickstarter was for an illustrated version of the story that came out in 2017, with the original publisher being Orbit (same company that reprinted The Witcher in English). This book, with over 33k reviews on Goodreads, was able to receive $88k for its kickstarter.
This is where I come in to say both the small publisher and the indie writers are WRONG.
Cover art is a new thing, barely being a thing in the 1800s and finally becoming common in the 1930s thanks to the publisher Penguin. Before that, there were a few Russian magazines trying to be avant garde and put outlines of drawings on their covers, thanks to the popularization of paper bindings over the leather bound books. Through the 30s onward, cover art became more extravagant and eye-catching as we engaged in competition between pulp magazines and comic books, both focused on action and human poses. Harlequin novels focused on real humans posing for a camera, with them being traced over for the most part. Later on, faces like Fabio became real-life photos that could be processed easily into a glossy cover and not appear strange or smudgy.
In this toss between drawings and models, digital art started to be used to make up backgrounds and fancy lettering. Manga started to become popular, mostly online, with a lot of light novels sharing the art style of manga. Once we get into the freelancer and authortuber stage of cover art, we start to engage in what is essentially a mockery of what covers once were. People will find an image online, hope it’s free to use, and slap it behind a bunch of pre-made font. This lack of production requirement allowed people to start making books for little to nothing, because now a single person could make a million books on their own.
The AI argument is where people are willing to use AI to create their cover art, with the opposition saying that AI is still treated as taboo. Personally, I disagree with both of these arguments because the taboo is only among artists who draw and their opinion is in the vast minority. The average reader doesn’t care and won’t notice, meaning that excuse is a way for an artist to fight for their job. However, the pro-AI side is also equally foolish because of how AI handles art to begin with. It doesn’t understand things like symbolism and focus, and so there won’t be a knowledgeable basis to create effective art that captures the reader and symbolically suggests what is hidden behind the main page.
Both the pro-artist and the pro-AI arguments are part of the psy-op to keep indie writers poor and out of the way. When your opponent is unorganized, there is no structure or institution to attack. Instead, the attack is aimed within the heart of your opponent in order to get them to stop fighting or stay away from the fight. A culture war is based on a media battlefront, with major corporations holding a substantial amount of both organization and funding. They ensured there is a price requirement to engage in media and they ensured there is going to be a way to convert human labor into automation.
It’s not that books need a cover, but a cover was normalized for the sake of second stage marketing. It makes people think that more money was spent on it or there is something to it, with AI showing that zero money was spent on it. Indie being plagued by bad or derivative covers is WORSE than if they sold stories with no cover at all. The fact that a self-publishing site like Amazon forces a cover image to be placed during publishing shows that the institution wants covers to be treated as important. In reality, the only important parts of a book are the title, blurb, and the story itself.
We can make the argument that a cover gives a visual glimpse to what’s lurking around the digital pages within, and that’s a great point. Readers want something to assure them and catch their eye, with a leather bound cover something that feels too old fashion to bother with. Yet, I would counter this by saying anyone could make an eye-catching cover by being symbolic and minimalist, in the same way Jurassic Park was. That cover was a plain black and white picture with the outline of T-Rex bones, bringing everything that the reader needed to know to the table. In fact, I would say that good writers are able to make themselves stand out by being symbolic and showing they know what storytelling is all about.
No matter which way you prefer to go, extravagant or minimal, the cover should be based around your expectations. There are so many people who don’t expect any money and they “write for themselves”, only to shell out thousands of dollars to sell a book nobody wanted and they have no idea how to market. This romanticization of pleasing yourself with your own work and ignoring the audience is why indie suffers from daily attrition in droves. If you’re not sure of what you’re doing, make it practice and make it free. Having $0 coming to you is better than having $2k leaving your pocket because you wanted to play with the big boys.
Really think to yourself: could I sell this story with the title alone? The elevator pitch? The first few sentences? Could I go around and have people beg me to read this story after I mention it? Then you ask yourself: can they pull this story out of a line-up?
If you’re really thinking of making a physical book, at the very least, allow the reader to know what book they’re holding by having the spine legible. The spine, the front, the blurb in the back; we just want to know what the hell it says. This $88k book that people were going bananas over has a terrible cover because I didn’t even know it was called The Rage of Dragons. I thought it was called Rage Dragons with how poorly done the lettering is. But that’s the thing: the book already sold itself with the story alone!
Worrying about your cover and changing it a million times is pointless. A big waste of money. All you’re doing is foolishly obeying the psy-op. Indie just needs to live below its means, pay out less than what it makes, and grow from constantly looking attractive. If indie writers were honest with themselves, they wouldn’t be trying to copy mainstream covers or blend in with some expensive liability.
Use AI if you know it will bring you more money, and use a professional looking cover when you’re making professional royalties. There’s no reason to pretend you’re something you’re not, or gamble your money away on a roll that has all the odds against you with little pay. I’m sure 99% of indie is self-aware of how many people will read their writing. If you think you’ll be selling to everyone in the world once you are able to pay millions for advertising, then word of mouth would be having your royalties increase daily in a never ending way, nullifying the need for millions. For the rest of you who have functional brain cells, stop killing your writing with the cost of cover art.
When your cover costs more than what you make, you’re doing it wrong.

2024.04.28 18:59 Big_Cartographer_284 Cant login to Facebook, sending same not working code or giving me option to code for old phone number and not to number that i logged in

Hi, yesterday I ran my phone with he car and it broke Of course, I didn't know the password for Facebook, so I had the code sent to my email. it didn't work and they keep sending me the same code that doesn't work I also have a there anothere email address that doesn't exist anymore and two numbers, one of which doesn't exist, and they currently don't give me the option to send to mine actuall phone number, even if it's add in Facebook. I sent them a photo of ID, thanks to which I could log in once, but it was useless to me, because as a possibility to change password they want to know old password or they only gave me the choice of a number that does not exist or an old email that doesnt exist anymore. and if even they sent my to my actual adress, they sent the same code again. There is no choice to send text messege to phone number with i EVEN LOGGIN IN. I font understsnd how bilion dollar buisness can be that shi***

2024.04.28 15:07 Salty-Alternate New prints on real vintage tshirts?

Has anyone ever noticed a lot of real vintage tshirts that have obviously been worn, like the fabric and tag shows all the signs of use and washes etc, but they have a brand new screenprint on them? I've been seeing a lot of them lately in different shops, and am wondering what it is about? It doesn't seem like... profitable for someone to gather used blank tshirts and then just print a bunch of different designs on them? The designs range from just a standard location design like "COLORADO" in some fancy font, to having something more specific or elaborate...I saw one that was some birds and had the name of a wildlife preserve that doesn't seem to exist.... or like prints of things that make no sense with the location they reference (like sailboats, with the word "Tenessee" next to it).

2024.04.28 02:13 SignificantCity3479 Let's break down how to set up your very own OpenID in a more casual, chatty style

So, you've heard about OpenID and you're keen to let users log in to your website or app using their existing credentials from other places. Cool idea! Here's how you can get started:
First off, you need to decide if you want to roll with an existing OpenID provider like Google or Facebook, or if you're up for the challenge of setting up your own. If you're feeling adventurous, you can totally set up your own OpenID provider using libraries like OpenID Connect. It's like choosing between buying a pre-built house or designing and building your own from scratch.
Next up, if you're going with an existing provider, you'll need to dive into their documentation to figure out how to hook up OpenID authentication to your site or app. They'll walk you through the process step by step. If you're blazing your own trail, get ready to implement the OpenID authentication protocol. Think of it like setting up the secret handshake for your club.
Once you've got your provider sorted, users will need to sign up and create an account with your OpenID service. This is where they'll link their credentials to their shiny new OpenID URL, which could be their email, a URL, or something else. Make sure you've got a secure system for storing their info.
Now, when a user wants to log in to a site that supports OpenID (like yours!), they'll get whisked away to your OpenID provider's authentication page. It's like checking in at the front desk before entering a fancy party. They'll enter their details, your provider will verify them, and then it's back to the party (or website) they go!
Sometimes the website might want a bit more info about the user, like their name or email address. No worries! Your OpenID provider will ask the user if it's cool to share that stuff, and then it'll hand over the goods securely.
Once everything's approved, your OpenID provider and the website will swap some secret tokens to make sure everything's legit. It's like passing notes in class, but way more secure.
Don't forget to add a logout button so users can peace out when they're done. And make sure to test everything out thoroughly to avoid any party fouls. Nobody wants a busted OpenID system crashing the party!
Oh, and don't forget the paperwork! Make sure your OpenID setup follows all the rules and regs, like OpenID Connect and GDPR. You don't want any legal hangovers spoiling the fun.
And that's it! You're all set to rock the OpenID world like a pro. Happy authenticating!
