Biogeography: For your species distribution needs.

2012.04.30 17:02 Biogeography: For your species distribution needs.

Biogeography is the study of the distribution of species and ecosystems in geographic space and through geological time. Knowledge of spatial variation in the numbers and types of organisms is as vital to us today as it was to our early human ancestors, as we adapt to heterogeneous but geographically predictable environments.

PC Help - Stuck at ASUS Diagnosing your PC
So I’m currently stuck at the PC booting up screen where ASUS is Diagnosing my PC. Preluding this, I was playing a little Abiotic Factor when my PC BSOD and reset. I tried opening it again to play and it happened again suddenly. This time it went to a black screen and rebooted again.
This has happened on several games I played and it seemed to sometimes fix itself and stop crashing for a time, but then would begin happening again randomly with an update or something I couldn’t explain. Either way, after a crash I’d always be able to boot the PC back up and use it for work without problems. Now that it isn’t even booting up properly I’m worried for work as this is relatively urgent. I’m planning on heading somewhere tomorrow (maybe MicroCenter since they supplied the parts) to get it checked out if I can’t deal with it myself.
Ive attached a list of my build’s equipment with hope that this may not be unique to me and I may have uncooperative parts due to me having to switch motherboard choices when I went to pick the part up as they somehow were out and recommended the one I have in the image. The motherboard is the only part in my list that I may have under-researched. Appreciate any and all help!
(The PC was built in November 2023 - maybe it needs to be cleaned? Doesn’t look horrible but there’s definitely dust on the glass.)

2024.05.21 20:38 RetroSwamp Has Anyone Made Any Abiotic Factor Lore Videos?

Hello, fellow science team,
I come to ask a simple question, I usually put on game lore videos when I work from home and wanted to dive a bit more into Abiotic Factor lore but I feel no one has taken the time to do a lore video about the game and universe.
Does anyone know of some being made or are out yet?

I'm FINALLY (maybe) going to have my observation. On the 28th. I am utterly burnt-out and I cannot even consider being engaging for this song-and-dance. How do I make this look good while not actually having to interact with children? :) (we'll be doing abiotic vs biotic factors).

2024.05.20 02:04 PM_ME_YOUR_QT_CATS Easier way to manipulate stacks?

In other games it is very easy to split a stack in half or only grab one item from a stack, but in abiotic factor it is a pain involving multiple clicks to grab 1 item from a stack.
Also the repair bench needs an upgrade to automatically grab repair mats from nearby chests.

Yeah, it was a lonely week again, and the mood was depressing. The Week, The Depression and the Comics Part 55
Somehow none of us had time for each other, especially because work and other shit didn't let me and my friends meet up. I mostly played video games anyway, the Bridge curse 2, Abiotic Factor, Farthest Frontier and No Rest for the wicked. But mostly I read how to see it or watched TV. But hey, my cat stays with good company.
But otherwise I'm also worried financially again. Rents are going up again in my area, shitty gentrification. It's kind of ironic that a bunch of privileged students move into your block to act cool and rebellious because they're not like the proles, but by doing so they're hurting those who are below them. And when you tell them that you're not the same, they get really angry. I mean my ex-boyfriends, who I'm just friends with now, once told me that the middle class loved to shout when they were the victims of the problem of capitalism, but often they are not interested in alternatives or at least looking for those Especially since they also like to involuntarily hit people who are below them. If it was at least involuntary, supposedly.
And otherwise my account at 2000AD won't work again, which is why you unfortunately not seeing any British comics here this week. But I'm trying to fix it because I love these British comics. And otherwise I'll try to further refine my cooking skills.
Well, I'm trying to get more sleep. My cat is really the best antidepressant in this case and in the end always keep it in front of your eyes, At some point the sun will shine again, and if not there are other light sources.

2024.05.19 21:24 RichRuzz 36 EST looking for PC gaming friends

Hey there, I’ve posted here on/off before to some moderate success over the years and found some chill people and now looking to build some more. (Hopefully!)
I have a TON of PC games being like 1k+ on Steam alone, and just generally looking for solid game suggestions, or others to play with at times or fun co-op or competitive experiences.
I’ve recently been playing Star Citizen and a bunch of other things, but always down to start up a Stardew Valley game, Phasmo/Forewarned/Escape the Backrooms, Golf with your friends, or Grounded, Abiotic Factor, DayZ, FO76, Helldivers 2, really just depends since I have soooo many games and I pretty much play everything from racing, to simulation, adventure, RPG, competitive and all the in-between.
Only caveat is I’m like pretty deep in on/off surgery on my hands/elbows/shoulder and some other things so it’s hit and miss on my pain levels and surgeries I’m bouncing between for some sports injury and life stuff.
Anyways if any questions, or suggestions, or have inquiries about games I have feel free to stalk my list at RichRuzz on Steam, or add me on Discord at the same (RichRuzz)

2024.05.19 03:18 xI3loodEaglex Criminally underrated

As the title suggests this feels criminal how many people are playing Abiotic Factor. It's all but on par with something like Marauders as far as player base to how imaginative and innovative the game is for the formula and genre of game.
I mean just look at the number of people on the sub I need everyone to know about this game and to play it lol. My friends and I are just mind boggled as to why there aren't 5-10 times more people practicing science out there in the cascade facility. I truly love this game the last game that held me like this in the "God I wish I was playing x game" was Valheim and it got its roses.
TLDR; more people need to know how good this game is... And I need more of it ASAP 😂

2024.05.18 21:38 cmnrdt Games that incentivize multiple base camps and/or outposts?

Most base-building and survival type games expect you to have a primary base that has all of your stuff and that acts as the central hub of activity, usually making it a huge pain to relocate. And they are usually very forgiving in that you can either prepare in advance for going on expeditions or forage somewhat in the environment.
But lately I've had an itch that I think can only be scratched by a game that is vast and varied, and requires a lot of traveling back and forth between biomes, to where it makes sense to build satellite locations. Places where maybe you don't need all the advanced stuff you have at the main base, but having a place to rest, resupply, or engage in a bit of infrastructure means not having to travel all the way back to your origin.
I've played a number of games where there's technically the option to have multiple bases but never any gameplay aspect that requires it. Subnautica, but the submersibles are fast and provide plenty of utility on their own. Enshrouded, but with each base allowing fast travel there's no point in decentralization. Abiotic Factor comes close, but since your base is centered around your workbench and the workbench provides a rough safe zone with no enemy spawns, satellite locations are prone to attack when you're not around.
Oddly enough, one comparison I'm tempted to make is Dead Space 3, on the section where you have to traverse the surface of Tau Volantis with a malfunctioning helmet, forcing you to take shelter in warm areas stationed along the path. There's also Death Stranding (which I haven't played) with the emphasis on building roads, ziplines, and other things to make going across the map less cumbersome as time goes on.
Something like a solo colony sim, where you can venture out to a resource vein, mine something, store it locally, then load it up on your main transport to take back to your main base. Perhaps later on you can automate the process so that you only have to stop by to pick up the resources, take a nap in your shelter, and drive back. Or something like having to build a geothermal plant in a volcanic area that you can then connect to a pipeline that sends power to your other bases.
Any games like that?

2024.05.17 11:51 AlexSFeather Achievements no longer popping up as notification

So recently i noticed that the achievements i earn in games are no longer popping up as notification nor producing a sound while i am in game. I have both my steam overlay and notifications enabled but i am still receiving only notifications about messages and invites not achievements.
The issue seems to persist over all games i have been playing recently: Abiotic Factor, Sun Haven, Tiny Tina's Wonderland. I have to manually check for the achievements i earned instead of being notified when i actually earn them.
This started happening not too long ago so i am assuming the cause of this glitch/bug is one of the steam updates. Any help with this issue is greatly appreciated
